Chapter 89 (Extra 12)
When the last drop of snow in the Northern Plains melted, everything fell silent. The mountains of the Northern Plains were as flawless as its snow, pure and immaculate. The undulating hills and mountains formed a continuous line, bathed in the lingering glow that gradually descended along the ridges.
The Northern Plains knew no nights; even after the glow faded, all was still white.
Arriving here, Si Lan and Haowei beheld the pristine face of the Northern Plains after the snow had melted, unable to help but exclaim in astonishment.
It was like a white canvas here, painting white clouds, white mountains, and a white sea, exuding a bizarre and magnificent beauty, dreamlike and ethereal.
Initially, they speculated that Bian Rang, upon being reborn, would enter the cycle of reincarnation and be born again. Yet Bian Rang did not follow the cycle of reincarnation; instead, he gathered his breath in the Northern Plains.
Following Bian Rang’s aura, they arrived at a cave in the Northern Plains, where countless starlights flickered within.
These starlights gathered from the ends of the earth surrounded a massive block of ice.
Si Lan stepped forward to examine the block of ice. Within it, faint and strange starlights emitted, converging to form a human figure.
He suddenly understood why Bian Rang chose to revive in the Northern Plains.
Silver hair, jade-like face, clad in white purer than snow.
Only such a pristine place was suitable for Bian Rang.
Si Lan looked at the figure in the ice and murmured, “After Bian Rang’s revival, I wonder what he will be like.”
Yu Wuxia had also revived. Si Lan had seen him twice: once when Yu Wuxia chased after a tiger and another when the roles were reversed.
The second time they met, something happened; the tiger growled menacingly, chasing after Yu Wuxia.
Yu Wuxia ran, shouting, “Master, disciple will never use the wrong medicinal oil again! I will immediately uproot all the peppermint in the mountains!”
“…,” Si Lan.
He wondered how the peppermint had provoked Jiaheng.
At that moment, upon hearing the words “peppermint,” Jiaheng’s anger surged. He leaped forward, biting onto Yu Wuxia’s clothes and tackling him to the ground.
Si Lan had originally intended to greet this master and disciple pair, but witnessing the bizarre scene, with Yu Wuxia’s clothes torn and discarded, and the tiger transformed into a human…
Si Lan quietly walked away.
He wondered if after Bian Rang’s resurrection, he would end up like Yu Wuxia, able to achieve enlightenment with his beloved.
Haowei glanced at Si Lan and said, “Although Bian Rang has revived this time without entering the cycle, his reformed soul will lose its previous memories.”
For Bian Rang, perhaps losing those memories was for the best.
Si Lan murmured in agreement, reaching out his hand. He intended to touch the ice, but countless starlights fell on his fingers, causing him to pause and murmur, “Jiuying will soon sense Bian Rang’s resurrection…”
Due to the dissolution of the Pentagram Nine Skies Formation, the souls of Dayong, Kui, and Xue Rong, who were previously trapped within the formation, returned to reincarnation. However, Jiuying chose not to reincarnate; he became a ghost, staying in the underworld, guarding his memories and waiting for Bian Rang’s return.
“Let’s go back.”
After a moment of silence, Haowei spoke.
Seeing Si Lan lost in thought, he couldn’t help but embrace Si Lan’s shoulder and say, “Don’t worry about them. If their fate is not over, they will meet again. If it is over, we can’t force it.”
Si Lan sighed, “It was my idea to help Yu Wuxia, and now he has successfully chased after Immortal Jiaheng. If Jiuying could also seek my advice, I’m sure bringing Bian Rang back would be much easier.”
Haowei twitched his lips slightly. Was it really because of his suggestion?
Why did he feel like his random idea had unexpectedly hit the mark?
Though he thought so, Haowei didn’t dare say it. Instead, he indulgently said, “Yeah, if you have the chance to see Jiuying, give him some advice.”
Si Lan nodded with a smile, turning away with Haowei. As they left, he said, “Let me tell you, chasing after Bian Rang is different from chasing after Jiaheng.”
“Oh?” Haowei expressed curiosity and confusion very tactfully, looking forward to an explanation.
“Jiaheng doesn’t like to talk. If you try to talk to him nicely, he’ll just ignore you. So the methods must be ruthless and shameless, forcing him to speak.”
“…,” Haowei.
No wonder he could come up with the move of kissing him without even acknowledging him.
“Bian Rang is different. Bian Rang is born as the son of heaven’s will, powerful and noble, thinking himself unmatched. Using shady means against such a person won’t work; instead, he might just slap you and turn you into cannon fodder.
So, to capture Bian Rang’s heart, one needs to understand that what he lacks is tender care and love. He has never experienced the life of ordinary people. Inside, he looks down upon and yet envies their lives. Therefore, if he feels the abundant care and love in life, it will definitely move his heart.”
Haowei originally thought Si Lan was joking, but upon hearing this, he couldn’t help but look at Si Lan seriously.
Si Lan indeed understood their personalities well and knew how to remedy their weaknesses.
Haowei couldn’t help but ask, “And what about capturing me?”
“You…” Si Lan’s ears turned oddly red.
Seeing this, Haowei became even more curious. “What about me?”
“Just give you two wild fruits,” Si Lan muttered under his breath.
“…” Haowei.
So, he’s only worth two wild fruits!
Thinking back, when they first met, he was indeed moved by Si Lan’s two wild fruits!
Haowei couldn’t help but grit his teeth. This “disdain” tonight needed to be dealt with properly.
As Si Lan left the Northern Plains, he glanced sideways at the mountain below, where a dark figure emerged from the intersecting mountain ranges.
Si Lan smiled faintly, thinking to himself, “I’ve already laid out the moves; now let’s see what Jiuying will do next.”
—
Upon hearing the disturbance in the Northern Plains, Jiuying rushed over without delay. Just as he descended to the foot of the mountain, he overheard Si Lan and Haowei talking.
At this moment, his eyes seemed distant, still lost in Si Lan’s words.
Cannot use underhanded means.
Must use thoughtful care and love.
He followed the faint starlight into the cave, surrounded by conical ice blocks emitting a chilly mist, shrouding the cave like smoke.
He followed the starlight until he reached the inner part of the cave and saw a massive ice pillar standing amidst the glacier.
The starlight was bound to the pillar, slowly merging into it and transforming into twinkling fireflies.
Seeing the humanoid form within the ice pillar, countless memories flooded his mind in an instant.
The first time he met Bian Rang, Bian Rang lifted his chin and said he was the most beautiful person in the clan, taking him away.
Used as a servant, placed in the Ninth Heaven, accompanying Bian Rang to watch demonic beasts fight in the arena, he played stone chess to amuse Bian Rang and to keep him from the arena.
To uncover Bian Rang’s weakness, he tricked Bian Rang into drinking.
To kill Bian Rang, he pretended to be captured.
…
Many past events, though over a hundred thousand years have passed.
But they are deeply engraved in his heart, replayed countless times in his mind.
“Bian Rang…”
Jiuying slowly approached the ice pillar, pressed his face against it, tears slowly falling from the corners of his eyes. Regret, longing, pain—all these emotions tangled together. He wanted to say a thousand things, ten thousand things, but they condensed into just one sentence.
“I miss you so much.”
He really missed him. Sealed within the deep and boundless Bagua Formation, he could only endure by thinking of him.
—
Jiuying didn’t know when Bian Rang would awaken, so he kept vigil outside the Northern Plains, the sight of the sunrise each day being his happiest moment.
Because there is sunlight, it won’t snow.
Sometimes he would daydream outside the cave, sometimes he would talk to the person inside the ice pillar. He told Bian Rang that they had a child, and he had recently visited the demon realm to see the child.
The child looked a lot like Bian Rang, but his temperament was unknown, bold and unafraid even when facing such a fierce ghost.
Instead, the child approached him and made a deal—if he wanted to see him, he had to bring him a piece of candy each time.
Jiuying looked at the cavity in the child’s tooth that showed when he spoke and couldn’t help but fall silent.
“That child is very clever. He knows I want to see him, but I haven’t acknowledged him yet. I’m afraid that acknowledging him will burden him, letting him know… his father killed his mother…”
Jiuying said this, laughing at himself, so it could be considered redemption, not letting himself and the child reunite, otherwise Bian Rang would be left alone.
He would wait for Bian Rang to return before acknowledging the child.
“Actually, I also feel unworthy to be his father. If it weren’t for you dispersing your cultivation to save him, he probably would have…”
Jiuying choked up, his fingers slowly tracing Bian Rang’s face on the ice pillar.
If it weren’t for Bian Rang, the child would have been lost long ago.
If he hadn’t been so willful back then, pretending to crush the spiritual fetus in front of Bian Rang, Bian Rang wouldn’t have been so furious that his soul shattered. He had regretted it to the point of wanting to kill himself, but in order to see Bian Rang again, he lived as if life were worse than death.
More and more starlight gathered inside the ice pillar, and now Bian Rang’s features were clearly visible, exactly like the person in his memory.
His fingers moved inch by inch, not even feeling the pain despite his fingers turning frostbitten.
“Bian Rang, come back.”
He had really waited too long, waited for a hundred thousand years.
He hugged the ice pillar, pressing his cheek tightly against it, tears falling down onto the ice.
He fell asleep and didn’t see the starlight inside the ice pillar gradually dimming.
The man with silver hair and a jade-like face slowly opened his black eyelashes.
In an instant, the ice pillar cracked inch by inch, pieces of ice fell off and hit the ground, making a sound.
Jiuying woke up suddenly, turned around to look at the ice pillar, and met a pair of ink-black eyes. Jiuying was stunned, staring blankly at the person, momentarily forgetting how to react.
It wasn’t until the falling ice hit him that he seemed to realize something, stepping back several times in succession. The ice pillar in front of him collapsed with a crash, stirring up waves of white cold air.
After the cold air dissipated, the face that he remembered so deeply and could never forget was gradually revealed.
He staggered forward, stepping on the broken ice, his gaze fixed on the person in front of him without blinking.
The pale face, deep eyes and brows, thin red lips, and the distinctive vermilion glass pendant worn on the left ear.
“Bian Rang…”
