Chapter 20 – An Xumo’s Appeal

Since there was no one around, An Xumo finally walked over slowly. He stood next to Zhou Jinchen, the man who was looking over the sea withdrew his eyes and looked at him without speaking.

An Xumo asked softly, “Brother… Do you have something on your mind? “

The man obviously looked different from before.

Zhou Jinchen raised his eyes to look at the distant starry sky, his voice was low and cold. “No.”

“Then you…”

“What’s the matter?”

Perhaps because of their original relationship, Zhou Jinchen didn’t turn a deaf ear to An Xumo, but there was a huge gap in his tone from the one just before the camera.

An Xumo said in a low voice, “You look different from before.”

Zhou Jinchen’s voice was cold and indifferent without any emotion, “I was just working.”

An Xumo was stunned for a moment. He naturally knew this, but a variety show like 《Sunny Weekend》, in addition to a comfortable life, it’s another major selling point is “authenticity.” Although artists will choose to show their own favorable side, they always display their true character. Unexpectedly, Zhou Jinchen would completely separate on-cam and off-cam. He was on a reality show but it seemed like he was acting in a movie.

“What’s shot by the camera can… Really be distinguished from reality?”

“Everyone has different choices,” Zhou Jinchen glanced at him, “For me, it’s always work in front of the camera.”

In the distance, someone was calling them to go back to the stone house. Zhou Jinchen turned and walked back, An Xumo followed behind him, lost in thought the whole way.

So it was always work in front of the camera, skillfully displaying his culinary abilities and doing housework thoughtfully was all work.

That morning at the beach, helping him with his medicine, handing over the coconut in the afternoon, these voluntary expressions of goodwill… Were they also just work for the camera?

He still had too little experience with being on camera. An Xumo thought to himself, he still had a lot to learn. No matter what he will achieve in the end, he couldn’t cause any more trouble for his brother.

When they got back to the stone house, it was already late. Yan Xiangyan and Zhang Zhiwei were going to record a product placement commercial for a dryer, but the shots took a little longer. When they came back, several people made their bed one after the other. Although there are two bedrooms on the second floor, most of the rooms were connected which could also be considered an entire large bedroom. In addition, the gender of most of the people was the same, so the beds were randomly assigned and they slept on their own.

An Xumo wasn’t familiar with the bed, but he soon fell asleep. The night was quiet with only the gentle and melodious sound of the waves in the distance remaining. This is indeed a night suitable for deep sleep. If——if only no one suddenly played a deafening music on the first floor.

Bouncing up from his bed in a daze, An Xumo was startled. His blanket was spread on the floor, and he could even feel the vibrations coming from downstairs across the floor. Such a big noise woke up all the six people. An Xumo got up and turned the small lamp by the wall. After everyone had adjusted to the dim light, he turned on the headlights on the house.

“What happened?” Yan Xiangyan rubbed his eyes and got out of the bed, “What’s going on downstairs….?”

An Xumo shook his head, indicating that he didn’t know. He looked at the watch on the wall; it was only just 2 am.

Being woken up at this time of the day, people’s consciousness wasn’t clear, but the noise coming from downstairs was so annoying that the group had to go down one after another. It was only when they reached the first floor could they see the culprit of the noise.

It was those young people who used the excuse to shelter from the rain during the day. This time, they were not only dressed in ethnic clothes but also brought a speaker. What was playing on the speaker was the same song that they have been taught during the day. The young man who took the lead made a demand, “You have to repeat the dance you learned earlier or else return the coconuts we gave you.”

The coconuts had been wiped out clean of their juices and meat, how can it be returned? This is obviously the show’s arrangement. Several resident and director groups have been used to it, and Zhang Zhiwei even made a move to hit the director with the sponsor’s pillow. They quarreled, but in the end, they still have to work hard and complete this unexpected task.

This dancing task can be regarded as a dilemma, not to mention that Zhang Zhiwei and Yang Xiangyan were just hanging out at the end of the team. Even Han Ming, a professional, couldn’t recall all the moves after ten hours. Moreover, the program team didn’t let out anything in advance to remind them. They only thought that it was fine to finish the dance at that time and didn’t deliberately remember it.

Even if they did remember it, waking up in the middle of their sleep, it would be difficult for the confused group to possess clear thoughts in the middle of the night. Han Ming also performed a few moves with Yi Tianming, he tried to dance again but was quickly vetoed by the leading younger brother.

The younger brother said that he had to dance more than 80% before he could pass. They looked at each other for a moment, this test was a bit too difficult.

This kind of segment usually leaves a backup and the program would not give a test that fails. Zhang Zhiwei wanted to go forward and negotiate with the little brother and ask him to change the conditions. Even if it was a little harsher, he would recognize it. In the middle of the night, they still wanted to go to sleep quickly.

But before he could open his mouth, he was called out by An Xumo on the side, “Teacher Zhang… Can I give it a try?”

An Xumo had just thought about something on the spot and there was no extra movement. Several people had thought no one could dance it again, so they didn’t go forward one by one to try it. Now seeing An Xumo taking the initiative, offering to do so, Zhang Zhiwei said, “What’s there to be so polite? Come try, it’s fine if you can’t dance it well. We’ll think of another way.”

An Xumo stood in the open space in front of the crowd and all eyes were focused on him. He took a deep breath and stepped on the beat of his right foot a few times before he danced a precise and smooth series of movements along with the background music that had been turned down a few decibels.

Music has an indescribable appeal and so does dancing. The tall young boy changed from his usual restrained shyness and showed an amazing explosive power in his continuous movements. If the usual An Xumo seems to have only a face to draw attention, when he danced, he showed his attractiveness with every part and every movement.

The camera on the side dutifully recorded the whole scene.

Unlike Han Ming’s previous attempts, An Xumo’s display had clearly been confirmed, there was no hesitation in his movements. Although in the eyes of professionals, it can be seen that he hasn’t practiced it many times but it was perfect enough for the reality show. By the time the three to four minutes dance was over, even Zhang Zhiwei recognized a few familiar moves. After the dance, An Xumo touched the side of his neck somewhat embarrassed. “There are some movements I didn’t remember and they’re not accurate.”

The little brother was shocked by An Xumo, let alone the others in the room hearing him say this. The little brother hurriedly said, “It’s not bad. The moves are basically right, but this dance needs to be danced collectively by you guys.”

The moves were already remembered, so it wouldn’t be difficult to dance it together again. With An Xumo leading the dance, the others dance with him again and the task was considered as fully passed.

Dancing again didn’t do any harm to An Xumo and it allowed him to take more shots. Even Yang Xiangyan who finished dancing along with him, praised, “Xiao Mo’s memory is good.”

After dancing, An Xumo recovered his usual shyness. He pursed his lips and smiled, “Many movements of this dance are adapted from the folk ethnic dances. I’ve been exposed to them before, so it’s easy to remember.”

Yi Tianming, whose complexion wasn’t on the bright side, said, “It’s the Li ethnic1According to historical records, the term “Li” first appeared in the Tang Dynasty (618-907). The Lis are believed to be descendants of the ancient Yue ethnic group, with especially close relations with the Luoyues — a branch of the Yues — who migrated from Guangdong and Guangxi on the mainland to Hainan Island long before the Qin Dynasty (221-206 B.C.). dance, right? I also feel familiar.”

The little brother smiled and said, “The eight of us came from eight ethnic groups. This dance is based on the Bai2The Bai are an ethnic group with a long and colorful history and tradition who live mostly in Yunnan. The word bai means white, and they like the color very much and often wear white clothes. The Bai are the descendants of an ancient powerful kingdom called the Nanzhao Empire (738–937) that later became the Dali Kingdom  (937–1253).dance and is adopted from the common dance movements of the other seven ethnic groups. It is the grand finale of our art group.”

Yi Tianming intended to say that it wasn’t a big deal to be able to dance well, but he was beaten on the spot by the little brother. Nevertheless, the little brother was telling the truth. He said this to promote his own art troupe, so Yi Tianming naturally couldn’t refute him again.

The other one who didn’t dance well, Han Ming, didn’t look very good either. Although he didn’t speak like Yi Tianming, as a professional, he was undoubtedly overwhelmed by An Xumo in this segment. For an artist, such aspects of character like sincerity, diligence, and sentimentality, were only secondary; while the display of ability within the professional scope is the basis of what truly draws fans. Actors rely on acting, and idols like them, rely on their singing and dancing abilities.

An Xumo himself modestly found excuses, but from this one test, it directly reflected his talent and efforts in dancing. By the time the show is aired, everyone would know that this newcomer had learned at least eight folk ethnic dances. In contrast, Han Ming felt that he had completely become a clown.

And now, he unobtrusively raised his eyes to the side to look at Zhou Jinchen. The man was looking at An Xumo who was talking to Yan Xiangyan, his side profile was handsome and charming.

Even Zhou Jinchen, who was so dazzling, had his eyes on this newcomer who had yet to debut and had no reputation.

Chapter 19 – Warm and Cold

An Xumo was quietly eating fried rice. Zhang Zhiwei, who had finished chatting with Yan Xiangyan, turned around and saw him. He smiled and asked, “Is it good?”

An Xumo didn’t know why Zhang Zhiwei had asked him alone, but he nodded his head honestly and replied, “Delicious. Thank you, Teacher Zhang.”

Zhang Zhiwei had previously asked him to call him Uncle Zhang off-cam because he was in the same generation as An Xumo’s mother. But in front of the camera, Han Ming and the others called him “Brother Zhiwei” since An Xumo having to call him Uncle Zhang would appear a generation shorter. Zhang Zhiwei had specifically instructed him that it was fine to call him Teacher Zhang in front of the camera.

Zhang Zhiwei sighed lightly and said, “Do you guys know who I learned this fried rice from?”

Naturally, the others didn’t know but An Xumo had an inkling feeling that there was a reason for him to bring this up alone. Sure enough, Zhang Zhiwei said, “This is something I learned from Xiao Mo’s mother.”

“Back then, our family’s conditions weren’t good. A situation that none of you, young people may have experienced, but Xiangyan should know that at that time, the tuition fees for college were hard to come by, not to mention the living expenses. It was only later when I was able to take jobs at school to earn some extra money that things got a little better.” Zhang Zhiwei’s voice was laden with emotion.

“When I was in my first year of college, my senior sister was our teaching assistant. I was one of the worst in our class. There was a time when something went wrong at home and the living expenses didn’t come in. I couldn’t afford to order food in the dining hall. I just needed a steamed bun and ate the big packets of pickles from the canteen. After a long time, my senior sister found out and said it wasn’t good enough to eat this way. Thus, she gave me and another female student with extremely poor conditions, a big box of fried rice for the two of us.”

Zhang Zhiwei slowly told the story, attracting the attention of several people nearby.

“Sister’s condition wasn’t good either but she was skillful. Not only did she give us a stir-fry full of rice, but she also gave us two jars full of pickled vegetables and the salty sauce she made. It was those two jars of side dishes that got me through my worse days. Ai, I still sigh when I think about it. Telling you, young people about this feels like telling a story, but it was actually something we experienced at that time.”

“Yes,” Yan Xiangyan placed some shrimp and eggs into the bowl, “I was a little better off than Zhiwei back then, but it wasn’t much different. Now that the conditions are better, let alone young people, even when thinking about it ourselves, it feels like those days were like a dream. One moment it feels far away and another moment it feels like it just happened yesterday.”

Zhang Zhiwei smiled and patted An Xumo’s shoulder, “Xiao Mo, is the taste a little similar to what your mother made?”

An Xumo smiled but his chest felt a bit stuffy and his stomach was empty as if everything he had just eaten disappeared. The ferocious sense of hunger struck him as hard as the morning rain that landed on the shore. He was so hungry that he didn’t dare to stare directly at Zhou Jinchen. He could only whisper, “En, it’s delicious.” He mulled over and picked up the rice.

An Xumo felt cold and hungry, not only his stomach but his whole body was empty. He never thought about his parents, maybe he did, but that was a long, long time ago. He lived quietly by himself not caring about anything but food and Zhou Jinchen. Now that someone had told him that his mother was like this, the illusory dream showed a little outline. The warmth left behind made An Xumo, who had returned to the darkness, feel even colder.

Mom…

It turns out that mom is not only a “shameless, cuckolding, not wanting face vixen” image, she also knows how to make delicious fried rice.

The lunch ended in a lively atmosphere. After chatting for a while, several people began to prepare dinner for the evening. Originally, the program team also arranged outdoor activities. After all, the beach in Sanya is so beautiful and the scenery is intoxicating enough. Unfortunately, the weather outside was still gloomy, so it’s not appropriate to light it. A well-fed Zhang Zhiwei laughed at the director’s group before he slowly began to work on the dinner.

The crabs must be steamed in the pot and the chicken soup must be simmered. Zhang Zhiwei directed Yi Tianming to help, while Yan Xiangyan called Han Ming to clean up the bedroom. Han Ming originally wanted to be with Zhou Jinchen, but the senior spoke up and he couldn’t refuse. He could only watch An Xumo and Zhou Jinchen stay in the same room.

The two of them were guests and they didn’t have much work to do, but if they weren’t active, they wouldn’t have much chance to be on camera. Therefore, they still need to find a way to do something. An Xumo’s lunch wasn’t very comfortable and he wasn’t sure if he was full or not. He had to wash the dishes after eating, so he moved the basin to the sink in the living room and prepared to wash the dishes.

An Xumo, who had never done much of this kind of work, washed the plastic lunch box. He was clumsy and made a lot of noise that Zhang Zhiwei, who was preparing dinner at the other end of the house had to check twice.

The more nervous he was, the more likely he was to make a mistake. An Xumo was fidgeting with a spoon when Zhou Jinchen, who had tied his apron, walked over and drove him away from the sink.

An Xumo honestly stood to the side, like a student who was scolded by a teacher in detention. He watched Zhou Jinchen stretching out his hand with his sleeves rolled up, his long and strong hand which had been pulled in by countless cameras, were soaked in the sink. He sorted the bowls and dishes methodically and cleaned them expertly.

Zhou Jinchen wore the sponsor’s logo which is the most common style, but since he’s tall, long-legged, and well-proportioned he looked like he just wore the apron as a design. Although he vaguely understood the other party’s intentions, An Xumo still felt that the two temperaments between homely and unrefined had reached the perfect fusion on Zhou Jinchen’s body at this time.

Thinking about it, this kind of contrast when put on the screen, would definitely attract a lot of likes. Zhou Jinchen wasn’t just putting on airs, he is more skilled in washing the dishes than the frazzled An Xumo. Thus, the reliable sense of home can be perfectly shown in him.

Naturally, the show won’t miss a single shot of this unexpectedly great material. Zhou Jinchen handed over the bowls after washing them while An Xumo dries them one by one and puts them away. There wasn’t much communication between the two but the effect of the shot was absolutely satisfying.

In the evening, the weather finally cleared up, the setting sun showed half a silhouette from the clouds in the sky and the fiery red color burned over half of the sea. The aroma of food wafted up in the cozy stone house, and the tinkling wind chimes shook on the eaves. Although it has always been known that the program is being recorded, the warm atmosphere still gave An Xumo great comfort.

By the time dinner was ready, the stars were beginning to shine. Five steamed crabs and six coconut chicken filled the table. Because An Xumo can’t eat seafood, Zhang Zhiwei scooped up his crab to make crab meat, and his share of coconut chicken was full enough for him to drink slowly.

Dinner is the main highlight of the program, and the group chatted while eating. At the end of the meal, they haven’t had enough time chatting, so they moved to the seaside to chat at Yan Xiangyan’s suggestion. The dark clouds dispersed and the sky was full of stars, the breeze was blowing away the heat of the day, and the waves beat gently at the shore. The slow and comfortable pace of life, rich in food, clothing, and beautiful scenery makes people feel pleasant.

A bonfire was lit on the beach, and the flames reflected everyone’s faces, complementing a gentle filler of lights. Zhou Jinchen, who hadn’t spoken much since the show, also talked with Zhang Zhiwei. An Xumo hugged his knees, leaned over his head, and listened as they talk about Zhou Jinchen’s previous film.

“Indeed, the literary films don’t dominate in the market but Jinchen ah, this film you made is definitely not a loss.” Zhang Zhiwei said, “Lin Rui talked with me and said he never expected to meet such a young and explosive partner. He’s been praising you, saying that your performance was better than his on 《Vanishing Train》 back then.”

Lin Rui is also a well-known Film Emperor, and 《Vanishing Train》 is the film where he won the best actor. Zhou Jinchen’s previous film was a collaboration with Lin Rui, and the two had a lot of interactions in the plot.

Zhou Jinchen smiled faintly, his handsome face showing in the firelight displayed a different kind of gentleness. Beside him, Han Ming has been looking sideways at him, but An Xumo only looked at him for a short while before looking away.

One look and his stomach is filled; warm, and sweet.

Zhou Jinchen said, “It was Brother Rui who took care of me and made this movie. He also taught me a lot.”

Zhang Zhiwei, on the other hand, shook his head and said, “Lin Rui also had the opportunity of 《Vanishing Train》 back then. Jinchen, I won’t say anything polite, but your chance is indeed about to arrive.”

Zhang Zhiwei’s words were indeed considered as a confession,1To give one’s bare heart into somebody else’s keeping [idiom] there were still cameras filming next to him, so he must have been looking at Zhou Jinchen when he said that. At the side, Yang Xiangyan smiled, “It’s rare to see Zhiwei praise someone so much ah, Jinchen, if you really win an award, don’t forget to invite Zhiwei to dinner.”

“With the kindness of the two teachers,” Zhou Jinchen said with a deep smile, “I’m waiting to invite everyone to dinner.”

The atmosphere was good for a while that several people watched the night scenery by the beach a little longer until the wind gradually cooled down did they started to prepare and go back to their houses.

After the camera was put away, the bonfire was extinguished, and the beach without natural and artificial lights gradually dimmed. An Xumo went to the beach and picked up two seashells and returned. He saw that the others had already packed up and were preparing to go back. However, not far away, there was a slender figure standing alone, a man facing the sea.

An Xumo walked across the beach. He walked to a distance not far from the man, but his footsteps slowly stopped.

The man facing the sea was looking up at the calm and deep-sea in the distance. The pale starlight scattered down and landed on the corner of his brows. The light on the shore had already dimmed, but the man’s figure looked like a solidified field; both cold, hard, and heavy.

Zhou Jinchen is now different from the person who handled the shrimp line and washed the dishes skillfully. Even the smile and warmth he had when chatting by the bonfire has completely disappeared.

The camera moved away and the mask peeled off, An Xumo suddenly felt that this was the true face of the other party.

The author has something to say:

There is a small foreshadowing at the end of the last chapter. I don’t know if you saw it, but it’s about the brother’s attitude towards Xiao Mo.

It’s okay if you can’t see it, it will be explained later~

Chapter 18 – An Xiao Mo, Little Glutton

When the trainee was in trouble before, Han Ming had noticed An Xumo. This newcomer was actually able to get Xin Zimai to call him personally, so his background definitely wasn’t that simple. He had also asked his agent to check An Xumo’s information before but failed in the end. And now, An Xumo unexpectedly got in touch with the Film Emperor, Zhang Zhiwei, which made Han Ming want to make a move that he had to worry about it three times.

But on the matter concerning Zhou Jinchen, Han Ming wasn’t going to back down. When it comes to the contract plan signed before, he had finally found a reason to be able to poke An Xumo to Aunt Xiao’s place.

Aunt Xiao, who is in the top management of Jin Dian, will definitely have access to more information than his agent. Only after hearing the caller say that she would pay attention did Han Ming calm down and hang up the phone.

Before coming to record 《Sunny Weekend》, Han Ming’s original imaginary enemy was Yi Tianming, their positions overlapped and their ages were similar. Thus, Han Ming has always been a little bit worried about Yi Tianming for not being able to squeeze him out of his exclusive resident quota.

However, Yi Tianming’s IQ wasn’t worthy of the resources he had received. Anyone with eyes could see the difference. The truth was just as Han Ming expected, when there is no comparison in the first season, it couldn’t be seen. After the first episode of the second season was recorded, Yan Xiangyan and Zhang Zhiwei clearly preferred the low-key Han Ming.

In addition to the goodwill of the two big names, Han Ming was also confident in the show’s effectiveness. Although Yi Tianming has a variety sense there were many details about him that could be amplified into his flaws. With a little bit of action during post-editing, once the show aired, Han Ming was certain that he could be set off by Yi Tianming and perform even better.

Han Ming had been looking forward to the filming of the second episode for a long time. It was the beginning of his and Zhou Jinchen’s binding publicity plan* and a very important step. But he hadn’t thought that halfway through, something unexpected would happen.

[*ICP plan in the previous chap.]

Han Ming gritted his teeth and thought: no matter what, he would never allow other factors to threaten this publicity plan.

The predictable fame and benefits were part of it, but the other reason was yet more important

—— He is planning to take this opportunity to make the fake show come true.

When An Xumo returned to the living room, Han Ming also happened to be back. There were a total of four main rooms in the stone house; two bedrooms on the second floor, while the first floor has a bathroom and a living room. Although there weren’t many rooms, there was plenty of space in each of them. The kitchen and living room were combined into one and this was also the place where the six people moved around the most.

Han Ming saw An Xumo and wanted to call out to the other party, but before he could say anything, there was a sudden “kuang“* sound outside the door.

[*clanging/clatter]

Several people in the room were drawn to look towards the door. Outside, the rain had been falling for a while and the sky hadn’t completely cleared up yet. So, who would be knocking at the door now?

“Who is it?” Yan Xiangyan raised his voice to ask a question, but there was no response from the door. He walked towards the door in confusion and reached out to open the door, “Who is it…”

Before Yan Xiangyan could finish his sentence, he was drowned out in the crowd of people that filled the house. Only when they were all in did they explain their intentions in front of them.

“It suddenly rained outside, we got drenched all the way. We finally found a place to take shelter from the rain. Good people, please take us in!”

An Xumo couldn’t help but touch the tip of his nose. These groups of people were all dressed up and the so-called “drenched” was only a little water stain on their sleeves. He thought of the previous season and assumed that this group of people was obviously arranged by the show.

The others naturally know the show’s routine. Zhou Jinchen and Yi Tianming, who just happened to have finished cleaning up the ingredients, stepped aside and made way for the group. Fortunately, the room was spacious enough to still fit so many people.

Yan Xiangyan smiled, “Okay, do you have any other requests then?”

Seven of these eight people were obviously plain people,* they hadn’t opened their mouths and only one of the leaders was talking. When he saw that his identity has been exposed, he directly said, “Please learn a local folk ethnic dance with us and if you can dance it in full, we’ll give the local specialties to the good people.”

[*background people]

The specialties they were talking about are exactly the coconut held by a few people, counted exactly six. Zhang Zhiwei looked at the coconuts, “All right, ah. We happened to be cooking coconut chicken and we’re still short on coconuts. Come, come, we’ll dance for a while.”

The two teams were lined up in four rows, with eight people demonstrating, six people learning, the scene became very lively for a while. Saying to learn the dance when in fact it’s just imitating. What they taught is the local folk ethnic dance in China which focuses on characteristics and is not difficult, the dance is only three to four minutes long. Not to mention the professional background of Han Ming and An Xumo, even Yan Xiangyan and Zhang Zhiwei who hadn’t been in contact with each other smoothly followed at the end of the team to complete the task.

The group of people came in noisily, leaving the coconuts and whizzed away, then left again in a huff and a puff. Zhang Zhiwei took a coconut and shook his head, “Ai, already at an old age but have to sell my old arms and legs for food.”

After he sighed, he greeted the others, “Pry open the coconut and separate the coconut juice first, leaving only the pulp and shell for cooking.”

The chef said so, so the others were not modest. It was just that the coconut is delicious but hard to open. Yi Tianming and Han Ming were busy for half a day without getting one open. Han Ming shouted back, “Brother Chen, can you come and give me a hand?”

He spoke so naturally, his tone showed a touch of intimacy that it would have drawn a lot of screams from CP fans if it had been edited and put on air.

An Xumo also heard Han Ming’s voice, he turned back to look at Zhou Jinchen and the man had already sidled over to Han Ming’s side. He took the ravaged coconut from Han Ming’s hand, picked up the dagger, and sent it in at the top, the hard coconut shell was pierced easily like a tofu.*

[*Censored texts. I think I get why lmao]

Zhou Jinchen pulled the dagger out and opened all six coconuts, under Han Ming’s stare one by one. The group provided straws and Yi Tianming sent two coconuts to Yan Xiangyan and Zhang Zhiwei. Han Ming inserted the next straw and said, “Brother Chen is so good at everything, it’s like, ah… He was also especially handsome when he just danced.”

As Han Ming spoke, the camera was pointing right at the two of them. An Xumo took a second glance and didn’t look again as he continued to busy himself with packing up the cushions. However, he wasn’t busy for long before there was an extra person beside him.

When An Xumo looked up, he saw Zhou Jinchen standing beside him holding two coconuts with straws in his hands. Not far behind him, Han Ming was looking over their way.

Zhou Jinchen handed one of the coconuts. An Xumo wiped his hands and took it, “Thank you, Brother Jinchen.”

As soon as An Xumo’s voice trailed off, Han Ming’s voice rang out and he called out to Zhou Jinchen as if he was going to send the man over to help. When An Xumo saw that they were busy, he turned to the table himself and brought out a few more straws.

The colorful straws were inserted into the coconut. An Xumo carefully held the coconut and walked over to Xiao Yang who wasn’t far away, “Brother Yang, do you want to taste it?”

Xiao Yang was An Xumo’s follow-up director, but now that he was in the room, he didn’t continue to follow An Xumo. He was shocked when he saw An Xumo bringing the coconut over, “Oh, good, good, thank you, Xiao Mo.”

An Xumo smiled, “It’s alright.”

After Xiao Yang finished his drink, An Xumo went to the corner of the room where there was a cameraman hidden behind the grill. Along the gap where the camera was placed, An Xumo sent the coconut juice with a straw over, “Brother Wang worked hard.”

The cameraman who had been standing inside for a long time didn’t think he had a part to play, so he stretched his head to take a sip before remembering to thank him. An Xumo smiled back again, then headed to the next cameraman.

There were a dozen or so camera positions in the stone house, and when An Xumo came back from his rounds, the coconut juice had pretty much bottomed out. He didn’t feel anything himself, but the cameramen were impressed. There was only one follow-up shoot of An Xumo, but he took care of the cameramen in the house who were in fixed positions and could not move freely. This can no longer be considered superficial work, they can all see that this newcomer is really sincere.

After taking the last sip of juice, An Xumo ran off to hand over the coconut shells to Yan Xiangyan. Because of the late breakfast and the fact that everything needed to be done personally, by the time the six of them actually ate lunch, it was nearly 3 pm.

The coconut chicken was finished while the crab hadn’t been steamed yet in the pot, so lunch was just a transitional meal. The real meal would have to wait for the evening. However, the shrimp with egg, cold shredded salad, and eel fried rice were on the table. Several people were already very satisfied with the steamy lunch.

An Xumo helped bring the last dish while the others were already seated. Zhou Jinchen was surrounded by Yi Tianming on one side and Han Ming on the other while An Xumo sat next to Han Ming. Yan Xiangyan got up to pour water. Seeing An Xumo coming over, Han Ming took the initiative to hand him his chopsticks and said with a smile, “Come Xiao An, try this fried rice, Brother Wei’s cooking is good.”

An Xumo thanked him and was about to move the chopsticks but Zhang Zhiwei’s voice came behind him, “Hey, Xiao Mo, don’t touch that.”

The busy Zhang Zhiwei just happened to come back from washing his hands. He walked over and sat down, moving the last dish in front of An Xumo.

It was a bowl of Yangzhou fried rice fried with eggs and diced vegetables, distinctly different from eel fried rice. Zhang Zhiwei made a gesture to hit the back of An Xumo’s hand with chopsticks and said angrily and amusedly, “You’re eating seafood even though you have an injury on your hand, little glutton.”

Yan Xiangyan, who came back after pouring water also said, “Ah, right, Xiao Mo, I forgot to remind you that seafood is not good for wounds. Zhiwei has specially made a separate portion for you.”

An Xumo was a little embarrassed, he really remember whether to eat or not. He already had the same experience last time at the buffet. When he and Zhang Zhiwei thanked him, Han Ming on the side had adjusted his voice, his tone was full of apologies, “Sorry, Xiao An, I forgot about this.”

An Xumo was busy and said nothing. Yan Xiangyan rescued him with a smile, “Zhiwei didn’t know this but when he was young, while he was chasing Xiao Ying, her hands were injured so he took her to eat seafood noodles, causing Xiao Ying’s hand to hurt more than half an hour.”

Zhang Zhiwei coughed lightly. “Don’t take the time to expose my shortcomings ah.”

“Where am I exposing your shortcomings? Aren’t I praising you?” Yan Xiangyan continued to talk with others, “After this incident, you, Film Emperor, wrote down all the dietary taboos. He said it himself that you can’t make the same mistake twice to the people you care about.”

“Isn’t what I said right?”

“Yes yes yes, absolutely correct.”

Yan Xiangyan and Zhang Zhiwei were laughing and chatting, while Yi Tianming and Han Ming were also saying that they envied this affection. An Xumo’s hand holding the chopsticks, however, suddenly paused.

He was surrounded by joy but only one sentence remained in his ears.

You can’t make the same mistake twice to the people you care about.

An Xumo quickly and lightly glanced at Zhou Jinchen, then withdrew his gaze. He lowered his head and tasted the crispy diced vegetables, thinking to himself that he was too careless. Not only about this matter but the others as well. He must be more careful if he wanted to make a name for himself in the entertainment industry.

Chapter 17 – Hū hū* pain, apply medicine.1It’s like when you blow on a wound and it would hurt less. I asked someone about this haha & just decided to use the pinyin.

An Xumo was still carrying the basket containing the lobster in his right hand, and he had carefully curled up his injured finger so as not to delay the camera. It was just that it wasn’t just the finger that had just been caught in the lobster, the side of An Xumo’s palm was also red, which was why Zhou Jinchen noticed it.

“It’s nothing serious,” An Xumo said as he waved his left hand to show that he was fine. He touched the seawater earlier, but the wound was still wet and the salt from the water soaked in the red and swollen wound, bringing out some fiery pain. However, this kind of pain can be tolerated, and it will be better to wipe the water stains on your hands with a towel.

An Xumo had thought that this kind of small injury didn’t need to alarm anyone, but after he had said that he was fine, Zhou Jinchen still took the basket from him and handed it to Xiao Yang who was on the side. The man turned around and called for the logistics staff on the side to help bring the medical kit. What An Xumo didn’t expect was that things like treating wounds, which should have been done by the staff, were taken over by the emotionless Zhou Jinchen himself.

The tall and handsome man didn’t say a single unnecessary word, only silently holding the right hand that had been pinned down and carefully pat the red and swollen wound with a sterile cotton swab. Zhou Jinchen’s expression was serious, but his movements were so gentle that not only An Xumo but also the crowd of staff around him did not react.

For a guest of Zhou Jinchen’s level, the program team would not forcefully put a label on him to establish a persona, and the guest is unlikely to cooperate. Zhou Jinchen has never given anyone such a meticulous and intimate feeling before, his appearance indeed unconsciously attracts people to approach, but his imposing manner is always rejecting people. No one expected him to be so direct in front of the camera, showing the thoughtfulness and patience of a brother next door.

An Xumo, who was truly involved, was more affected than the curious bystanders.

It was summertime now, and the palm of his hand that was wet from the seawater still had a coolness to it. An Xumo didn’t dare to think about the body temperature coming from his right hand, he had been cold for too long and always felt that a little warmth from the other party could ignite into a blazing fire.

When Zhou Jinchen had already done half of the emergency treatment, An Xumo was reminded that the show was still being recorded as he watched the man move sideways to make room for the follow-up shot. Zhou Jinchen’s movements were very appropriate, and An Xumo, who had taken quite a few on-camera lessons, noticed that Zhou Jinchen’s movements and posture were chosen in a way that was perfect for the camera. It was also this that reminded An Xumo of the environment he was currently in.

In fact, for the camera next to the black hole, there’s still some hidden uneasiness in An Xumo’s heart. He had always been treating being on camera as a job and wasn’t quite used to revealing his true emotions in front of the camera. This is also one of the reasons he’d just said he was fine. If An Xumo had been given the choice, he would choose to deal with himself quietly off-cam.

However, the cameraman filming the two of them was precisely Zhou Jinchen’s follow-up, and this kind of footage was part of the content of 《Sunny Weekend》. With Zhou Jinchen’s efficient movements, before An Xumo could think about it, his wounds had already been taken care of.

While the two of them were treating the wound, Han Ming, who had followed from the beach, also noticed the follow-up shots beside Zhou Jinchen. His gaze was even more obscure as he stared at An Xumo, and when he turned to Zhou Jinchen, his eyes clearly looked with suspicion.

The wind at the seaside grew stronger and the sky grew darker after An Xumo’s wounds were treated, the group set off to return to the stone house built on the high ground by the seaside. Yan Xiangyan and Zhang Zhiwei, who were discussing the furnishings inside the house, heard the noise from the group and began bargaining a series of negotiations with the director team.

The baskets of the three people were emptied in the water basin to be cleared, with Han Ming having the largest number while Zhou Jinchen’s basket also contained quite a few things. But both of their gains were lost to An Xumo on the first visual impact – the majestic lobster was still shaking its large pincers, full of life and chasing other small crabs.

The loot was finally exchanged for ingredients, enough for six people for two days; rice noodles, meat, eggs, and seafood. The ingredient key An Xumo found was also exciting, as a rule, it should be the person who found the key to choose the ingredients. However, An Xumo only said that he could do anything, so he gave the right to choose to the two seniors. In the end, it was chef Zhang Zhiwei who made the decision to choose six fat and fresh sea crabs.

The real-life scenes and the difficulties faced by the stars during the process of handling the ingredients after they are brought back are also one of the selling points of 《Sunny Weekend》. This time, however, the hectic scene that the director team had previously anticipated did not happen.

The second season’s filming at the seaside has already been carried out. When the first episode was recorded, Yi Tianming and Han Ming, who were in charge of handling the ingredients, had a good time worrying about the live seafood. For the second recording this time, the two have learned their lesson previously, they were preparing to continue their struggle with the seafood, but they didn’t stay busy for long before they were both surprised by Zhou Jinchen.

Following the thoughtful application of medicine just now, Zhou Jinchen’s performance once again surpassed the expectations of most of the people present – his skill in handling ingredients was significantly better than Han Ming and Yi Tianming, who had already practiced for an entire season.

The two people who had planned to teach their experience to the new guests were embarrassed, but soon they were too distracted by Zhou Jinchen’s actions to worry about the details. It took less than ten minutes for Zhou Jinchen to handle the most difficult fresh shrimp, using only a palm-length dagger and a hook to clean out the difficult shrimp lines from the back of the shrimp.

Zhou Jinchen’s actions look incredibly easy, but when the eager to try Yi Tianming clamored to follow suit, he couldn’t even clean the shrimp line after a dozen stabs. Finally, the shrimp has been disfigured, so it can only be scrapped. The camera panned back to Zhou Jinchen, who was so relaxed that even Zhang Zhiwei and Yan Xiangyan, who were attracted to the scene, couldn’t help but exclaim.

The director team unexpectedly harvested such a great highlight, so naturally, they took full shots. Everyone was very surprised at Zhou Jinchen’s culinary talent, only An Xumo, who was quietly watching from the side, didn’t show any surprise.

Since he was twelve years old, Zhou Jinchen had to go to the deep mountains every year for more than half a year to heal his wounds, so it was naturally not surprising that he knew these things. The first time he returned from the mountain, Zhou Jinchen even cooked a meal for his younger brother whom he had not seen for more than half a year.

It was just that these memories only stopped at that year.

Apart from Zhou Jinchen’s actions that attracted the camera, the gloriously wounded An Xumo also couldn’t escape Zhang Zhiwei’s eyes. While the three of them were still processing the ingredients, Zhang Zhiwei called An Xumo to the side. The concern in his voice was obvious. “Was this injured just now? Does it hurt?”

Yang Xiangyan, on the other side, also looked at it and said with an “Ai yo.”2Oh, no/Ouch

He had no prejudice against An Xumo. In addition, the other party just took the initiative to give up the choice of ingredients, and he became more and more aware that the child was sensible. “What happened ah? Has the wound been treated?”

An Xumo was injured for once in exchange for the three people’s concerns. For once, he was a bit overwhelmed, and hurriedly said, “It’s fine, the medicine has just been applied.”

“How can just a light smear of medicine work?” Zhang Zhiwei brought the medicine kit and took out a roll of gauze. “Wrap it up. It’s not good to touch it again later when you do something else.”

Since childhood, An Xumo had hardly ever accepted the kindness of people around him, not to mention the Zhou family. Needless to say, his classmates at school were also children of families with similar backgrounds. Even the teachers would talk about his background behind his back. An Xumo could do the finale question and dance extremely difficult moves, but he was very unlikely to face this unfamiliar kindness.

“No need to bother, thank you, Teacher Zhang, I’m fine…”

“Just call me Uncle Zhang,” Zhang Zhiwei waved his hand, “Come over here, Xiangyan, give me a hand while I patch up Xiao Mo’s wound.”

An Xumo was even more disturbed by this, how could he bother the two seniors, “Really, there’s really no need…”

Zhang Zhiwei laughed, “Silly boy, are you afraid of being ugly? It’s fine, the tough-guy image was all the rage ten years ago, we don’t care about that now.”

Yan Xiangyan also said, “It’s inconvenient for the wound to be exposed, and it’s not good to touch it later when you still have to eat and so on, so it’s better to bandage it.”

An Xumo wasn’t thinking about the image, but before he could say anything, Zhang Zhiwei had already called an assistant director next to him and explained a few words to him.

When the assistant director left, Zhang Zhiwei said, “Don’t worry, the camera has moved away. This clip will not broadcast, and it will definitely not affect your image. When they edit it later, it will be better to avoid your wound. It won’t delay anything.”

This time, An Xumo really couldn’t refuse, the two of them bandaged him up briefly to protect the wound. An Xumo thanked them, while he couldn’t help but remember that time that Zhou Jinchen had just applied medicine to him.

He remembered the camera next to him that was filming the two of them, and some unexplained emotions faintly grew in his heart.

Zhou Jinchen and Zhang Zhiwei’s attitudes towards this matter were completely different which couldn’t help but cause An Xumo to be a little confused. The former had just given him the idea of working seriously in front of the camera no matter what, and the latter had told him that there were some things he could avoid the camera for as well.

An Xumo figured that he was probably still too inexperienced in dealing with the camera and that when he worked a bit more he might understand the trick better.

After An Xumo was pulled away and bandaged up, Han Ming’s gaze intentionally or unintentionally landed on the door of the room where the three of them were. After the ingredients were almost done prepping, Han Ming excused himself to go get water and when he reached the remote corner outside the camera, his face immediately went cold.

He frowned and made a phone call, and after that side was connected, Han Ming looked around to make sure no one was beside him, then said in a low voice, “Aunt Xiao, this is Han Ming, I’m recording Sunny Weekend.”

Without exchanging a few pleasantries, Han Ming got straight to the point, “Aunt Xiao didn’t we have a good talk before? Brother Chen’s side also agreed to the plan of doing a couple’s publicity campaign with me, which Xin Zimai signed the contract by hand.”

“No, he’s not being uncooperative,” Han Ming pinched the bridge of his nose irritably, “The follow-up director also shot a lot of footage of the two of us, but Brother Chen, took special care of another newcomer today, and even had the camera shoot footage of him applying medicine to someone…”

“I know, I know,” Han Ming took a deep breath to calm down, “I’m not in a hurry, I just don’t quite understand, what does Brother Chen mean by that?”

Chapter 16 – The Emperor’s Seaside Tour

Since they had to get up early the next day, the crew did not arrange the rest of the activities in the evening. The group went to bed early and everyone was called up before four in the morning on the second day.

The filming location is next to a beach in Yalong Bay, where the program team specially signed a contract with a scenic spot to rent it. It took more than an hour’s drive on the road— the winding path and gloomy sky made it difficult to wake up. The people who were called up early slept in the car and didn’t wake up until they arrived.

The makeup was already done at the hotel but had to be fixed before going on camera. The show’s makeup artists were busy and the accompanying cameraman had begun to set up the machines to film the sunrise. An Xumo looked over the horizons, the sea, and the sky boundary was flushed with a pale white light, the azure seawater lapped against the white sand beach, and the fresh sea breeze came.

He turned his head and glanced at Zhou Jinchen who was not far away. The man is talking with Yan Xiangyan on the side, his eyebrows were handsome and tall, and it was more intoxicating than the sea breeze.

An Xumo originally signed the contract because he wanted to see Zhou Jinchen, now what he has gain was far swifter and richer than he had imagined.

It wasn’t long before the horizon with white light was suddenly covered with a layer of gray clouds. After discussing with the local guide, the director came over to the six men and said, “Let’s go to the stone house first and start shooting right away. Let’s hurry up a bit, it looks like it might rain today.”

Yang Xiangyan smiled and said, “To have a rainy day on a weekend is a good thing.”

The main point of 《Sunny Weekend》 is the leisurely life represented by “weekend” and the bright mood that “sunny” represents. In addition, there is a lot of affections between the two characters, Yan Xiangyan and Zhang Zhiwei, between celebrities and young entertainers, and between hosts and guests. But coincidentally, since the first season of the show it has been raining eight out of ten times during the recording period, and the storyline “It’s always raining on 《Sunny Weekend》” has even made it to the top search for “rainy weekend”.

The six of them went to a stone house built on a hill by the sea. Compared to the wooden house in the first season, this stone house has become a two-story “mansion.” However, it is only now that the filming of the second episode is being filmed, and the popularity of the stone house is a little lacking. The cameramen were placed in various shaded areas of the house and the filming soon begins.

Unlike the intense entertainment variety shows like challenges, competitions, and matches, the presence of the camera in 《Sunny Weekend》 was not very strong, and accordingly, the requirement for the artist’s sense of lenses and on-the-spot reaction ability was virtually reduced a lot. This is also the reason why Zhou Jinchen chose to make 《Sunny Weekend》 the first variety show for An Xumo. If he were to participate in a variety show with fast-paced games, he’s afraid that An Xumo wouldn’t even be able to get a few shots.

On the set of 《Sunny Weekend》, even after the cameras started working, the artists on camera were still able to present themselves at their own pace, and the difference between before and after the camera wasn’t very obvious.

After the recording began, the hosts, Yan Xiangyanen and Zhang Zhiwei prepared breakfast. The porridge was cooked with glutinous rice and sea rice, and the taste was very fresh. After the first season’s exercise, the two, who weren’t very good cooks before, have already developed their cooking skills to be camera-ready. Before the meal, they also gave the newcomers Zhou Jinchen and An Xumo a few close-up shots. But this was already their only remaining stock. After the steaming breakfast, the ingredients became the first problem to be solved.

The furnishings in the stone house have a strong natural style. Although the cooking utensils are modern, they still need to burn wood for the fire. Continuing the last season’s style, Yi Tianmeng, who is familiar with it, was sent off to chop firewood, while the other resident MC, Han Ming, took Zhou Jinchen along to pick up ingredients.

Before leaving the house, Zhou Jinchen called out to An Xumo, and Han Ming’s gaze swept over. An Xumo was vaguely aware of Han Ming’s thoughts, but he wanted to be with Zhou Jinchen, so he went over anyway.

The sky outside the house was still grey, but the local guide said that it will not rain for a while. The trio’s mission was to find as many ingredients as possible to supply the stone house before it rained.

The program’s rule is five seafood are exchanged for one kilogram of rice, with the latter being the standard unit, all the other meat, vegetables, and eggs can be exchanged at the prescribed price. The beach is located in a remote place with beautiful scenery. Most seafood was small crabs and mussels. Han Ming, who already had one shooting experience, briefly talked over the main points with the other two, and the three picked up crabs on the beach.

An Xumo wore a white T-shirt with shorts specifically suited for the seaside, and along with his age made him look like a boy who had just returned from high school. His white t-shirt is no longer the last popular style of 9.9 yuan for free delivery, its stitching and design are obviously several notches higher. The oncoming sea breeze blew his wide T-shirt up, and even if An Xumo didn’t do anything, he was just as good at getting the shots that the editors and post-production especially liked.

He lowered his head and found traces of activities in the crevices of the reefs, but the progress wasn’t very smooth. According to Han Ming’s method, An Xumo fumbled for a long time but failed to find a harvest. After returning empty-handed again, An Xumo turned back to look in Zhou Jinchen’s direction, but unexpectedly, the other two people who had been moving in different directions were now standing together.

They weren’t too far away from An Xumo, and they were accompanied by two cameras. Han Ming seemed to have found something, his face was excited as he bent down and picked up two palm-sized clams with one hand, smilingly showing them to the camera, and finally, one at a time, he placed a clam in Zhou Jinchen’s basket.

Zhou Jinchen’s back was facing to the side, so An Xumo didn’t see his expression. But Han Ming was facing this side, and when he picked up the clam, he saw An Xumo, looking towards them. An Xumo looked at him abruptly but after looking at each other, Han Ming completely ignored An Xumo as if sweeping a mass of air and continued to communicate with Zhou Jinchen with a smile.

An Xumo suddenly remembered the concert of Han Ming he had attended before. At that time, more than a dozen of them were waiting in the backstage, and Han Ming in front of them was brilliant. When interacting with fans, Han Ming answered a question — the one wish he wanted to fulfill the most was to invite Zhou Jinchen to be a guest of his concert.

At the moment, Han Ming and Zhou Jinchen are already standing by the beach side by side. The cameraman is working hard to find the most suitable angle for them and present the perfect shot.

An Xumo raised his hand and wiped his forehead. He turned around and continued to look down in the stone crevices.

He didn’t know whether it was because he had misheard what Han Ming said before or because his own practice method was wrong, An Xumo had been searching on the beach for a long time and his basket was still only pitifully covering the bottom. On the other side, Han Ming’s baskets couldn’t be lifted, and Zhou Jinchen had gained a lot. Seeing that the wind was getting stronger, the accompanying director began to call the three of them back to the stone house. Han Ming and Zhou Jinchen returned to the beach one after another. An Xumo, who had nothing to gain, was still working on something in the distance.

Han Ming could see the weight of the basket in An Xumo’s hand. An imperceptible smile flashed under his eyes. Because of the strong sea breeze, the cameras have begun to put away the lenses one after another to prevent the machine from being wet by the sudden downpour. Seeing that no one was filming this side, Han Ming took a few steps towards Zhou Jinchen’s direction, “Brother Chen.”

Seeing Zhou Jinchen looking over, Han Ming gestured in the direction of An Xumo and said, “Brother Chen, I ran into Xiao An by chance last time when I was in the company. He seemed to have a conflict with several trainees. Fortunately, Director Xin’s call came quickly, and Sister Chen was able to handle the matter in time. I was still curious at that time, does Bother Chen knows Xiao An?”

Zhou Jinchen still had no expression. He glanced at Han Ming and said, “An Xumo’s contract is signed by the agent in charge of Zimai.”

Xin Zimai manages more agents, and he hasn’t seen other people make Zhou Jinchen so concerned. Han Ming was secretly suspicious but didn’t show it openly. He smiled and said, “It looks like Director Xin takes care of Xiao An quite well.”

Zhou Jinchen looked at An Xumo who was still in the distance, with a secretive expression in his eyes. Suddenly, he said, “Xiao Mo’s conditions are good, he has a bright future.”

An Xumo, who was bending down to capture his target, suddenly tripped over the gravel beneath his feet and almost fell straight forward. The cameraman next to him quickly reached out to help, but An Xumo had already stood firm. He let out a low hiss, his lips pursed and raised his right hand, and couldn’t hold back a cry of surprise.

He saw a lobster bigger than the palm of his hand, hanging on his white, slender hand. An Xumo had been chasing this lobster just now, and the awkward stagger was just enough for him to “catch” this majestic meal.

When Han Ming heard Zhou Jinchen calling “Xiao Mo”, he was stunned for a moment. In an instant, even the worst thoughts circulated in his mind. Whether it is the opposite sex or the same sex, Zhou Jinchen has never been in any scandalous rumor before. He never would have thought that at a time when he was planning to pursue the other party and had very favorable conditions in every aspect, a rival who was affiliated with Zhou Jinchen would be born across the board.

Han Ming had just gathered himself emotionally and was about to continue probing Zhou Jinchen’s attitude towards An Xumo when there was a sudden movement not far away from the direction of An Xumo.

Everyone on the beach was immediately attracted, they saw An Xumo who came by carrying a basket, and his camera shot is pointing at the two large tongs on the side of the basket. The guide on the side also gave a low cry, “Oh! such a big lobster is really rare.”

Han Ming subconsciously looked at Zhou Jinchen beside him but saw that the man had already stepped towards An Xumo. His heart sank, and his gaze towards An Xumo became even darker.

An Xumo didn’t notice this as he carefully carried the basket. Xiao Yang said he wanted to take a close-up shot of him, so he asked him to take the lobster all the way. But now, his biggest gain is not this amazing prawn.

He didn’t take a few steps before Zhou Jinchen had already walked in front of him, and An Xumo lifted his left hand and showed the ball in his palm.

“Brother Jinchen, look, I found a key to the ingredients!”

The appearance of the metal sphere is very similar to that of the reef, but opening it reveals a key with a special logo attached to it, which is part of the show’s arrangement to find the key and exchange it for a precious class of ingredients from the director. The ingredient key is a rare item, appearing only twice in the eight episodes of the first season.

An Xumo didn’t manage to catch a few crabs, but he was lucky enough to not only catch a large lobster but also find a hidden treasure trove of foreign aid.

Zhou Jinchen naturally knew the rare key, but his gaze only swept over it before moving to another place. With the camera pointed at the two of them, Zhou Jinchen frowned slightly and looked at the tips of An Xumo’s swollen right hand, “Did you get hurt by the lobster?”

Chapter 15 – He Held an Iron Chain in his Hand

An Xumo whispered, “My mother…?”

Zhang Zhiwei only thought that the other party was curious about the relationship between him and his mother but he didn’t know that to An Xumo, his mother was a complete mystery.

Zhang Zhiwei nodded, then turned to Yan Xiangyan and said, “Xiangyan ah, do you still remember what I mentioned to you, that senior sister from college?”

Yan Xiangyan thought for a while. “Oh, was it your assistant teacher when you were in Hua Ying?”

“Yes, it’s her.” Zhang Zhiwei’s voice was laced with some emotion, “It’s been almost twenty years now, Xiao Mo is already this old.”

When he said this, the onlookers could hear that this past friendship was really not shallow. Apart from Zhou Jinchen, the others were even more convinced that it was Zhang Zhiwei’s idea to bring An Xumo to the show.

Zhang Zhiwei looked back at An Xumo, “Xiao Mo and Senior Sister look so much alike… You, how’s your mom doing?”

An Xumo has never seen his mother for as long as he can remember. In contrast, the Zhou family regarded her as a monster, like a scourge and an enemy of class1some words were censored—naturally, no one would deliberately mention her.

It’s just that in front of outsiders, An Xumo didn’t want to bring up his own life. He subconsciously glanced at Zhou Jinchen, the other party was looking at Zhang Zhiwei with dark and gloomy eyes, and the look on his face was unknown.

An Xumo could only say, “Sorry, Senior… I’ve been participating in closed training recently, and it’s been a long time since I left the company.”

“Oh, yes.” Zhang Zhiwei shook his head lightly, “When we were also young, we didn’t go home all day and we always wanted to wander outside.”

Just then, the director of the show walked in and the topic diverted from there. The director gave the six people their own script; the filming will start the next day. Since this is a variety show, the script only gave the basic flow, while the specific content depends on how the several artists play the scene.

《Sunny Weekend》 is a star reality show shot in real life, which is different from the running and challenging games that have been popular in the past few years. It is a variety show focusing on “slow life”. The show follows Yan Xiangyan, a celebrity host for more than two decades, and his long-time friend Zhang Zhiwei, the Film Emperor in Hui Lin, as they lived in an isolated but simple and beautiful small town and experience a secluded paradise life.

When the program was initially publicized, it was largely focused on Yan Xiangyan and Zhang Zhiwei’s fame because the specific content of the show seems a little too bland. The rustic atmosphere of cooking over a fire and chopping wood to feed the fish hardly seemed to appeal to viewers. Many industry insiders aren’t very optimistic about the future of this variety show–《Sunny Weekend》 has neither competition nor breaking point and there’s not even hype, it’s likely to even pounce on the street quietly.

However, what many people didn’t expect was that the first season of 《Sunny Weekend》 would start off with a good rating. What the producers and directors didn’t expect was that the rating of the show didn’t drop, instead, it kept steady and even increased slightly with each week’s episode. Several of the young artists who appeared in the variety show also became popular, gaining a large number of fans. Even Yan Xianyang and Zhang Zhiwei’s Weibo followers rise steadily by fifty to a hundred thousand after each show.

The success of this variety show has left many people stumped, but it’s also because of the success of 《Sunny Weekend》 that the concept of “slow variety shows” was gaining momentum in China, and many foods and life variety shows are being joined by big stars are emerging. Taking advantage of this momentum, 《Sunny Weekend》 has prepared the script and filming for the second season efficiently and rigorously, adding more elements to the first season.

Unlike the first season, which took place on a farm, the second season of 《Sunny Weekend》 was moved to a scenic seaside location. The houses of the two big stars were also changed from wooden huts on plains to stone huts by the sea. After the first season, the roles and the distinction between the several artists on the show were also more pronounced.

Zhou Jinchen participated in the filming of the second season. The purpose of the show is to attract more viewers using Zhou Jinchen’s fame. The first phase has a continuation of the residual heat from the previous level, and the second phase carries a higher opening, which is more likely to give the show a subsequent bargain.

The recording time of each issue of 《Sunny Weekend》 is recorded over a two-day weekend, with Yan Xiangyan and Zhang Zhiwei as heads of the household. They are responsible for the two most important tasks, cooking and repairing the stone hut, in the base camp centered around the stone hut. Han Ming and Yi Tianming were responsible for most of the tasks that need going out, such as going to the beach to get food and collecting firewood from the high ground. The guests will bring foreign ingredients to help the hosts complete the various tasks. After the tasks were successfully completed, the guests can eat with the ingredients they brought with them.

In addition to basic cooking and house repairs, various tasks will be dropped during the recording period, which will be rewarded or punished depending on their completion, adding more visibility to the program.

The script for 《Sunny Weekend》 only has a general flow, but both Yang Xiangyan and Zhang Zhiwei are very good at controlling the show, plus they are also the investors themselves so the director didn’t interfere too much. The main purpose of this meeting was to get the six people to meet up and wait until tomorrow morning before driving to the beach.

The four residents who had participated in the first season were already familiar with the show’s flow, and the two people who mainly needed to be taken care of were Zhou Jinchen and An Xumo. It was already late after the meeting, the six of them went to the hotel arranged by the program team for dinner. There were nearly twenty people who sat at a large table including the director, producer, and filming director; the meal lasted for more than an hour before it ended.

When arranging seats for the dinner, Zhang Zhiwei let An Xumo sit next to him, and on his other side was Yan Xiangyan, who didn’t sit with his filming director since he was already familiar with him. An Xumo originally wanted to sit with Zhou Jinchen but Zhang Zhiwei quickly pulled An Xumo’s filming director, Xiao Yang, over, saying that An Xumo should get familiar with his own filming director2cameramanbeforehand.

An Xumo went to see Zhou Jinchen again, on his right side was his follow-up director and on the left side was already occupied by Han Ming. He was a step late, so he had to sit down and follow Zhang Zhiwei’s arrangement.

After all this trouble, everyone already knew about Zhang Zhiwei and An Xumo’s relationship. Because investors never let it slip when they add people, except for the producer’s, no one else knew An Xumo’s origins. Everyone acquiesced with the fact that An Xumo was someone who came in through Zhang Zhiwei.

An Xumo knew that Zhou Jinchen didn’t want to expose their relationship. This matter was right and it would also be less troublesome for his brother. He also didn’t take the initiative to refute the good intentions of the Film Emperor.

After dinner, the group of people returned to their hotel to rest. On his way back, Zhang Zhiwei also talked with An Xumo alone.

“Xiao Mo ah, your mom was kind to me at that time. Later, when she got pregnant and gave birth, there was suddenly no news. The boys in our class were still depressed.” Zhang Zhiwei lit a cigarette, and the fire flickered in the night, “I remembered her as soon as I saw you. You two looked so much alike, it’s simply carved out of the same mold.”

An Xumo didn’t know how to answer, the word ‘mother’ was too unfamiliar to him. The only warm name he had grown up calling since he was a child was ‘brother’.

Zhang Zhiwei’s expression became serious, he took the Film Emperor ten years ago, and he has been developing smoothly in the circle. The momentum is obviously different from ordinary people. “Let’s not talk about anything else, but there is one thing your Uncle Zhang has to remind, when you came to Sunny Weekend, did Liu Dajiang do it for you?

An Xumo was stupefied, “Liu Dajiang… Who is he?”

Zhang Zhiwei said, “It’s the CEO of the Jianghe Group, that bald old man with yellow teeth, who looks like he’s on foot in the grave in his forties, and he’s harassed basically every male artist under twenty-five…You’re not involved with him, are you?”

It was only after he described him like that that An Xumo remembered the “bald old man” Yi Tianming had said before. “En, I don’t know him and he didn’t let me in.”

“Yes…” An Xumo vaguely said, “It’s the resource that Jin Dian gave me.”

Zhang Zhiwei, who knew countless people, naturally saw that An Xumo’s expression didn’t seem fake. He was able to put his mind at ease and didn’t pay much attention to An Xumo’s last words. “Xiao Mo, the water in this circle is deep. Take advantage of this variety show to perform well. For the sake of your mother, Uncle Zhang will certainly help you. But you must clearly remember that this is the only thing that cannot be mixed in, especially in a situation like yours with an excellent physical appearance. Remember Uncle Zhang’s words, don’t think about taking shortcuts. People like Liu Daijang who give you more sweetness is not worth ten-thousandths of what you lose.”

Zhang Zhiwei was sincerely advising, he almost said to An Xumo “don’t be kept by others.” An Xumo felt a little abrupt about the other party’s kindness, but Zhang Zhiwei’s identity was here and he didn’t have the idea of climbing nor the idea of hugging a golden thigh. Since the other party said so, he should face it head-on.

However, after returning to the main group and distantly seeing the sight of Zhou Jinchen turning away, the bit of impropriety in An Xumo’s heart puffed out.

The one giving him resources was indeed not a company, but an individual. However, the other party is not the legendary bald old man with a beer belly… But rather the Zhou Jinchen, who participated in the show with him. Even though this was a misunderstanding, An Xumo did feel that there was no way these two people could be seen as the same image.

Following Zhou Jinchen’s line of sight, Han Ming who was purposely walking with him also saw the two people, Zhang Zhiwei and An Xumo. He smiled and said, “Brother Zhiwei is really taking good care of Xumo.”

After Han Ming finished his words, he suddenly felt cold and the feeling of being in front of Zhou Jinchen’s door in the afternoon reappeared. He subconsciously looked towards Zhou Jinchen, but the other party had already looked away.

Zhou Jinchen looked at the slender figure not far away and did not respond to Han Ming’s words. His gaze was heavily locked on the other party, like a long iron chain and a high-intensity see-through lamp.

Chapter 14 – Sudden Concern

As soon as the door was opened, the sound from the outside came in clearly. The program covered all the rooms in this area. There were no outsiders on the corridor, so the people didn’t attract any onlookers.

Listening to the movement outside the door, An Xumo who was standing inside the room couldn’t help but feel a little nervous. If the people outside came into the room now, they will see him standing in the room at a glance. At a time like this, coupled with An Xumo’s embarrassing temporary identity,1Fixed. Thank you scaranpannoir for the help!he really didn’t want to cause more trouble to Zhou Jinchen.

Fortunately, the three people at the door had just arrived at the hotel from the airport. They just stopped by to greet Zhou Jinchen, who had not changed yet, so they didn’t bother him too much. An Xumo heard the voice of an older person saying, “Be careful. Zhiwei hasn’t arrived yet; we have to wait for him for a while. About half an hour or so, the program team will be meeting in the conference room downstairs so you should remember to come over later.”

The Zhiwei that Yang Xiangyan is referring to is the big-name guest of 《Sunny Weekend》, Zhang Zhiwei. The film emperor who made his debut a long time ago. Before the start of the first season, the main point of view was exactly him and his partner, Yan Xiangyan. This information has been prepared in advance by An Xumo so it was still considered understood by now.

Zhou Jinchen replied with a low voice, “Okay. Thank you, Teacher Yan.”

Han Ming’s voice sounded afterwards and inadvertently said, “There is another one who hasn’t arrived, right? The new guest mentioned by the program team before, we haven’t seen him yet.”

Yan Xiangyan said, “The program team has notified his agent, so we would be able to see him later.”

Yi Tianming smiled. “Hey, I know Brother Wei just came from the studio, but this one will not come later than Brother Wei. It seems that he is also a busy man.”

When he spoke, he was still smiling in a brisk tone, but the meaning in his words wasn’t quite right. He compared an artist who hasn’t yet made his debut with a real Film Emperor. The meaning of the praise wasn’t recognized much, but the meaning of being shameless was obvious.

Yan Xiangyan is a well-known host who has worked for many years. In addition to his eloquence, he is best known for his commendable EQ. No matter whether he is a newcomer or not, he treats them equally. Even if he really doesn’t like anyone, he will never show it in front of outsiders. Naturally, Yi Tianming’s words weren’t just for Yan Xiangyan, his intention was more obvious than Han Ming who pretended to mention it accidentally. He just wanted to discredit the airborne that came out of nowhere in front of Zhou Jinchen.

Yi Tianming has been in the entertainment industry for a long time so he naturally knows how to fight for favors and suppress his colleagues. After the failure of his idol route, he began to develop the image of a funny artist, and ‘speaking honestly and straightforwardly’ also coincides with his personality. He didn’t feel anything wrong in saying such things.

However, things were indeed wrong. Even though An Xumo couldn’t see what was happening at the door, he sensed the sudden silence not far away. After an almost awkward silence, Yi Tianming’s voice rang awkwardly, “That, Brother Chen, we’ll leave first ah. No, we won’t trouble you.”

“Brother Chen… see you later.” Han Ming’s voice was obviously different from when he had just greeted him, but before An Xumo could listen carefully, a deep ‘Goodbye, Teacher Yan’ was heard before the door was closed.

The man in a bathrobe came in and pulled out his clothes with a straight face. An Xumo was frightened by his imposing manner before saying, “I’m sorry… Brother, this time, participating in Sunny Weekend has caused you trouble.”

Zhou Jinchen took his clothes in his hand and straightened up to look at him. It wasn’t until An Xumo was somewhat embarrassed that Zhou Jinchen said, “Perform well, don’t waste this opportunity.”

An Xumo nodded quickly, “Mm!”

Zhou Jinchen dug out a casual T-shirt and a pair of slim pants. “This time, I used Jin Dian’s resources to add people. If someone asks, ignore it and don’t mention me.”

An Xumo knew that Zhou Jinchen didn’t like his private life to be probed so he didn’t think too much about it, “Okay.”

“Don’t clash with Han Ming, he is also using the resources of Jin Dian.” Zhou Jinchen looked straight at him with some dim and imperceptible coldness on his face, “Han Ming’s person in charge is his aunt.”

An Xumo answered again, but he didn’t quite understand the emotions behind Zhou Jinchen’s words. Zhou Jinchen also noticed his confusion and it was unlikely that he would understand it if he brought up the company’s top management competition to an artist who had not made a debut.

Forget it, Zhou Jinchen waved his hand to the person, “Remember not to provoke him. Follow me closely and pay attention to the camera.”

After An Xumo nodded, Zhou Jinchen said, “Go out. Go downstairs for a meeting in half an hour.”

An Xumo hesitated. Zhou Jinchen who had already lifted his hand and removed his bathrobe belt looked up at him. The firm and flexible muscles in his chest and abdomen were looming. An Xumo hurriedly look away and said, “After a while, can I come and join with brother?”

The room was quiet for a moment, and An Xumo who couldn’t see the other party’s expression quietly bit the tip of his tongue, but soon Zhou Jinchen’s voice rang out.

“Can.” Zhou Jinchen’s voice was still light, “Just call me like everyone else in front of the camera.”

An Xumo nodded earnestly, “I’ll remember it!”

When he came out, there was no one else in the corridor. An Xumo went back to his room and made a phone call to Tang Tang. The other party instructed him again about everything and it seemed that she wasn’t at ease with An Xumo who is on a variety show for the first time. After hanging up, An Xumo changed into a more formal clothes and went downstairs to the conference room with Zhou Jinchen.

When they entered, the other four had already arrived. Seeing that the door was pushed open, the line of sight of the four people immediately focused on them.

The person who went in first was Zhou Jinchen, who nodded and greeted them. The two big names sitting on the left didn’t have a special reaction but Yi Tianming and Han Ming took the initiative to greet him, yet they couldn’t hide their surprise.

They didn’t expect that the mysterious airborne would really show up to the end. This kind of thing is a big taboo in the circle; making a group of seniors wait for him alone. This airborne can no longer be described as ‘ignorant’ but simply wanton.

However, when Zhou Jinchen took two steps forward, the figure behind him was revealed.

An Xumo’s appearance is as outstanding as his brother and despite being slightly inferior in height, his body proportions were equally excellent. However, in front of many seniors, it’s not a good thing to be in the limelight. An Xumo puts himself in the position of a newcomer with a very humble expression and demeanor.

And when the four people in the room saw his face clearly, their reactions were very different.

Yi Tianming’s face was obviously indifferent. Like Han Ming, An Xumo had followed the idol route that Yi Tianming had failed, coupled with An Xumo’s airborne identity, he almost laughed coldly in front of everyone. Han Ming, who was sitting next to him was obviously surprised when he saw An Xumo, but he quickly reined in his expression leaving only a thoughtful appearance. Yan Xiangyan who was sitting across from the two still had no special reaction. The newcomer’s identity made no difference to him. As a well-known host who is used to big scenes, he has been remarkably successful in managing his expressions.

There were six seats at the long table. On one side, Yi Tianming and Han Ming, Yan Xiangyan and Zhang Zhiwei sat together while the remaining two seats are facing each other. Logically, An Xumo, a newcomer, should sit on the junior’s side—that is, next to Yi Tianming.

Zhou Jinchen in front of him stepped aside and An Xumo bowed towards the crowd. He behaved well and he didn’t look as formal or stiff and dull as a newcomer. “Hello,2formal/courteous greetingseniors. I am An Xumo.”

He looked up. Yan Xiangyan smiled and nodded towards him, while Yi Tianming glanced at him. The only one who knew him tried to get up and greet him, but Han Ming was only halfway there when Zhang Zhiwei who sat across from him, suddenly pushed his chair and walked over quickly.

“Xiao3used to address young people as a way to show affection and kinshipMo!”

Everyone in the room was shocked, even Yan Xiangyan who had known Zhang Zhiwei for many years did not react. This Film Emperor who is not yet forty years old isn’t a good person, and it was reasonable to say that he wouldn’t show such an enthusiastic reaction to a newcomer who had just entered the entertainment world.4*Fixed. Thank you scaranpannoir for the help again! \(≧▽≦)/

Zhou Jinchen frowned slightly but the Film Emperor didn’t even notice his expression as he brushed past him, walking directly towards An Xumo.

An Xumo was also stunned. He only knew Zhang Zhiwei from the reports because acting wasn’t part of his course and his knowledge of Zhang Zhiwei is only limited to the other party’s title of Film Emperor. But now, the other party grabbed his shoulder and let go as if he didn’t know what to do. It took a while for his emotions to calm down. “Xiao Mo, come, sit next to me. When did you arrive?”

An Xumo was half led and half pulled by him to the seat next to Yan Xiangyan. Zhang Zhiwei also directly reached out and drove Yan Xiangyan to the innermost seat, where he and An Xumo sat together, causing Yan Xiangyan to stare at this old friend with curiosity.

As a result, the seat that originally belonged to Zhou Jinchen was taken by An Xumo. Zhou Jinchen didn’t say anything and took a glance at Zhang Zhiwei before walking over to the only remaining empty seat. Yet it was Han Ming, who seemed to have some desire to trade places with Yi Tianming, but he looked at Zhou Jinchen and finally didn’t say anything.

An Xumo who was sitting across from Zhou Jinchen was the one who was the most uninformed. He was asked several questions by Zhang Zhiwei about his own recent situation, but after answering each and every one of them, An Xumo was still very convinced—he really didn’t know Zhang Zhiwei before.

Yi Tianming on the side was a little restless and tried to ask, “Brother Zhiwei, you and this… Xumo, you knew each other before?”

He originally thought that An Xumo had been stuffed in by an investor and also listened to a lot of lace scraps from the bosses, but who would’ve thought that at this moment, it looked like the other party had climbed into Zhang Zhiwei’s relationship.

When Zhang Zhiwei finally took his eyes off An Xumo for a moment, he smiled and said, “Yeah, I’ve known Xiao Mo’s mom for a long time.”

The author has something to say:

The reason why Zhang Zhiwei recognized Xiao Mo will be explained later.

Some readers say it’s a bit confusing with so many people. To explain, there are six people in the recording issue of 《Sunny Weekend》 and there are four other people besides An Xumo and Zhou Jinchen. Ranked by age:

① The veteran host, Yan Xiangyan, who is surnamed Yan Tong “Yan” is a host who speaks a lot.

② The actor Zhang Zhiwei, a big shot, is the (2nd) golden finger of An Xumo.

③ Yi Tianming, a funny variety artist.

④ Han Ming, a vocalist, and a dancing idol; An Xumo’s senior.

Everything about the entertainment industry in this article is compiled by the author, and there is no archetype wasted logic. Please forgive mua! – 3-
