Chapter 94 – I considered it up, too

Chapter 94 – I considered it up, too

Jian Luo waited with a hint of nervousness for Lu Shifeng’s response.

The Marshal glanced at him, giving a cold, bone-chilling smirk as he asked, “Really?”

“…”

Terrifying.

Jian Luo shrank back, stammering, “I, I suddenly don’t really know.”

He tried to move away, but he was already on the bed, with nowhere to escape. In the end, he could only sit on the edge of the bed, feeling small, helpless, and vulnerable.

Lu Shifeng pulled him back, preventing him from falling off the bed. His demeanor was dominant, a departure from his usual laziness. At this moment, he seemed full of aggression, especially with those blood-red eyes, giving the impression that he was a fearsome predator and Jian Luo was the vulnerable prey.

Jian Luo nervously opened his eyes.

Lu Shifeng’s voice was low and magnetic, “Be good and don’t cry, okay?”

Jian Luo stammered, “I won’t run away.”

Lu Shifeng’s lips curved into a faint smile, “Good.”

After delivering his threat, the Marshal got up and left the room.

As he left, the oppressive atmosphere in the room diminished, and Jian Luo finally relaxed. It wasn’t because he was pleased but because this encounter reminded him of the immense gap between them. For Lu Shifeng, he seemed too insignificant, while for himself, Lu Shifeng was undeniably too powerful.

Jian Luo sighed in place, trying to forget the dream-like scenario he had been trapped in. The former Marshal had mentioned that dreams could sometimes be inaccurate; perhaps he was just overly worried.

“Luo Luo, let’s go shopping!”

Secretary Jin, came over after breakfast.

Jian Luo was excited, “Can we?”

Lu Shifeng, who was sitting at the table, remained motionless and gave Jian Luo a glance. “Take care of yourself.”

Jian Luo understood, “You’re not coming?”

Secretary Jin said, “The Marshal won’t be joining us. He has some business to attend to, but once he’s done, he should have some time.”

Lu Shifeng, sitting nearby, appeared nonchalant, waiting for Jian Luo to engage him.

However, Jian Luo was straightforward, “It’s okay; he’s busy. Just the two of us going for a walk is fine!”

“…”

The atmosphere suddenly grew colder.

Secretary Jin felt a chill run down her spine and forced a smile, “How could it be? The Marshal will have time to accompany you and the baby once he’s done.”

Jian Luo didn’t catch on, “I don’t need someone to accompany me.”

Secretary Jin’s smile almost disappeared.

Of course, Lu Shifeng’s smile vanished even earlier. Jian Luo hadn’t realized his mistake yet, but the Marshal was giving him a piercing stare.

Jian Luo’s heart tightened, “W-What’s wrong?”

Where could he find someone as considerate as him?

Lu Shifeng smiled thinly, “Okay.”

Thinking that he was just in a bad mood, Jian Luo returned a bright smile and left without even eating. Secretary Jin awkwardly accompanied him, and she didn’t dare to look back at Lu Shifeng’s expression, letting everything blow away with the wind.

The commercial district.

Industrial Star excelled in creating a variety of craftsmanship and inventions. They had astonishing talent and creativity in this field, making most shops on both sides of the streets selling these ingenious products.

Though there were no specific offerings, if one focused and searched diligently, occasionally, they could find high-quality items at affordable prices.

Jian Luo stood in front of a stall, looking at a yellow box, “What’s this?”

The vendor answered, “This is a lie detector.”

A real-life lie detector!

Jian Luo was genuinely excited, “Is this lie detector able to determine if someone is lying?”

The vendor, a scruffy young man with long hair that nearly covered his eyes, replied without making eye contact, “It can detect about 90% of questions, and the accuracy depends on the person’s mental strength.”

Wide-eyed and curious, Jian Luo looked at the yellow device. He inquired, “Can I try it?”

The vendor didn’t refuse, “Sure.”

So Jian Luo got a chance to use it.

Using the lie detector was straightforward. He inserted his hand, asked a question, and provided an answer. If the answer was a lie, the device would light up.

Jin, the secretary, asked, “Luo Luo, why are you interested in this?”

As Jian Luo inserted his hand into the lie detector, he replied, “It’s fun.”

One of the advantages of this lie detector was that you could mentally ask the questions, to avoid any potentially embarrassing results. To prevent awkward outcomes, Jian Luo chose to think the questions silently.

He took a deep breath and began to think the question:

“I am a person from the 21st century on Earth.”

After thinking the question, he began to wait. In a short time, the machine reacted, and the blue light lit up.

Secretary Jin said, “That’s correct.”

A hint of joy appeared in Jian Luo’s eyes, and he decided to change to another question, “I don’t like Lu Shifeng.”

The machine hesitated for a moment and then lit up with a red light.

Secretary Jin smiled and said, “That’s incorrect.”

“…”

Jian Luo looked at the machine in silence, deciding to ask a question that would yield a clear judgment, “I am currently a livestreamer.”

The machine lit up with a blue light.

“Lu Shifeng is a pig.”

The machine showed a red light.

Jian Luo enjoyed himself and chuckled.

Finally, when he grew tired of playing, the vendor asked, “How much do you want to pay?”

The vendor raised a finger, “10,000 star coins.”

“??!!”

It was quite expensive. Jian Luo was aware that he used to earn only 3,000 star coins a month in his previous job.

As expected, Secretary Jin said, “This is above market price. Many people are buying lie detectors, so if you’re looking for someone to overcharge, you’ve picked the wrong person.”

The vendor replied, “My lie detector is different from the others.”

Bending down in curiosity, Jian Luo asked, “What makes it different?”

“It’s only sold to those with fate,” the vendor lifted his emo-style hair to reveal his face, “and you two are the chosen ones.”

“…”

Jian Luo said, “5,000.”

The vendor replied, “I can’t even cover my costs with that, I can’t sell it.”

“5,000 is my final offer; I tested several questions, and it didn’t work well,” Jian Luo lied with wide eyes. “If you want to sell, sell it. If not, we’ll leave.”

The vendor felt frustrated, “It can’t be wrong.”

Jian Luo grabbed Secretary Jin’s hand, making a show of leaving, “I said 5,000; I’ll take it for 5,000. A fair price.”

Although he said he would leave, he rambled for a while and didn’t actually go. He had enjoyed the act, holding Secretary Jin’s hand.

After a brief hesitation, the vendor finally relented, “Fine.”

Hooray!

In the end, Jian Luo managed to obtain the lie detector as he wished, and he also won the admiring gaze of Secretary Jin, “Luo Luo, you’re amazing.”

Jian Luo sighed, “It’s nothing, just a little haggling.”

Secretary Jin was shocked, “You can haggle too?”

?

Jian Luo looked at her curiously, “Don’t you haggle when shopping?”

SecretaryJin didn’t answer, but Jian Luo could read the answer in her eyes. These capitalist ways were truly vile.

The rest of their shopping was mainly about getting to know the local environment. After a while, Jian Luo noticed something concerning, “Why is there no food for sale here?”

Jin messaged back, “Industrial Star used to be ruled by robots, and animals were enslaved. Later, there was a reformation, with robots stepping down, giving the people a chance to rule. However, during the earlier years, due to being enslaved by robots for a long time, their food and drink were all nutrient fluids. They didn’t have much interest in other things.”

Jian Luo nodded, “I see.”

With this explanation, Industrial Star seemed more desolate than he had thought.

The two of them got a rough idea of the situation and returned home. When Jian Luo returned, it was still early, and he hadn’t had a good meal since yesterday. His stomach was growling, especially since his morning sickness had subsided. He decided to cook a meal for himself.

Secretary Jin, the secretary, offered, “I’ll help.”

Jian Luo took a fresh fish out of the fridge and said, “Let’s make boiled fish.”

Jin took the fish and said, “I’ll prepare the fish.”

So, Jian Luo started preparing the other ingredients for the fish. He enjoyed the process of cooking, the gradual creation of delicious flavors, and he got lost in it. He decided to make a live stream of it.

He chose to make spicy boiled fish and, before starting the live stream, he checked the back-end data. So far, he had prepared nearly 20 different dishes, including snacks like fries and chips, which would start charging once the taste limit was exceeded.

Up to this point, he had cashed out only a few times.

The total earnings in the back-end were impressive, amounting to 780,000 star coins. Some dishes were particularly popular, with snacks like fries taking the lead at 190,000 star coins.

Jian Luo said, “I need to figure out a way to make more money.”

And it appeared that dealing with the factory issue was becoming increasingly urgent. Earth was in a state of disrepair, and everything required funds. Even with 780,000 star coins, it was challenging to afford a protective shield.

Secretary Jin asked, “Luo Luo, what are you looking at?”

Jian Luo snapped back to reality and said, “It’s nothing.”

He decided to take it step by step for now. There wasn’t much use worrying about it at the moment.

“Ding.”

The small spherical live broadcasting device was officially activated. Since the last time he crashed the Jinjiang Live Streaming Network, Jian Luo had become a bit more careful. Before starting the live stream, he informed Jiang Jiang, “I’m going live.”

Upon hearing this dreadful news, Jiang Jiang promptly called the programmers to prepare.

The audience in the live stream room began to increase.

“The streamer is live!”

“Why did the live stream start all of a sudden? I was still in Da Yu’s live stream.”

“Clashing schedules.”

“Oh my, there are fewer people today. Looks like most of them are at Da Yu’s stream.”

Jian Luo didn’t know who Da Yu was, but he was curious, “Who’s Da Yu?”

The audience in the live stream room replied, “A new food streamer. He makes some strange flavors.”

“Similar to you.”

??

Wasn’t that undermining my character?

Jian Luo asked with some difficulty, “What kind of strange flavors are we talking about?”

The audience replied:

“Charcoal-grilled stones.”

“Stir-fried tree leaves.”

“Steamed leather belts.”

“…”

Jian Luo fell silent for a while and said, “That’s… interesting.”

Because so many people mentioned it, Jian Luo specifically checked the profile of this guy. He found that he was indeed popular, ranking first on the popularity list with 5.2 million viewers, leaving the second place (which was him) behind by around 2 million viewers.

Fortunately, he wasn’t too concerned about these statistics, and he wasn’t eager to compete with others. So, he just checked and left it at that.

Jian Luo refocused, a laid-back streamer, and began his broadcast, “Let’s make boiled pork, a homey dish. Don’t miss it!”

Jin handed the fish to him, and Jian Luo started explaining to the camera how to remove the fishy smell. As his live stream began, more and more new viewers entered. This time slot used to belong to Da Yu, but with Jian Luo’s broadcast, more and more viewers began to split between them.

In Da Yu’s live stream room, there were some discordant voices:

“Luo Luo from next door started his live stream.”

“Friends, Luo Luo is live!”

“Oh, he finally started his stream?”

Clearly, Da Yu’s popularity began to decline visibly, which caught the attention of the room moderators and Da Yu himself. Since they joined Jinjiang, they had been the top dog in terms of popularity. They were widely praised, and no other streamer could surpass them. While they knew of Jian Luo’s existence, he rarely streamed, and due to the unpredictable timing of his streams, the two channels had never clashed before. So, everything was peaceful.

However, it happened by chance this time that they went live at the same time.

Da Yu checked the barrage and said, “Alright, everyone, please stop spamming. Let’s focus on my content.”

“Room mods, check this.”

“Organize the content.”

Most comments mentioning Jian Luo were either deleted or the users were banned. However, even after banning a portion, others still came up. This, to a large extent, caused dissatisfaction among Da Yu’s fans.

“Why are there so many annoying people?”

“Just let him stream; why spam everywhere?”

“I can’t see Da Yu’s content now. It’s so annoying.”

Although Jian Luo didn’t instruct such behavior, it contributed to the invisible tension in the air.

Soon, some of Da Yu’s fans started fighting back:

“I downloaded Jinjiang Streaming just for him. Why can’t I say that?”

“Some people are spamming Da Yu in Jian Luo’s stream. Why isn’t Jian Luo moderating his fans?”

“Freedom of speech. I’ll say what I want.”

“Why are you guys so anxious? Jian Luo has only streamed a few times, and he clashed with us just once. Is it necessary to be so impatient?”

Fans argued vigorously, sapping the viewership from both live streams. In the past six months, although Jinjiang wasn’t a top-tier streaming platform, it had achieved some success in the industry.

The overall ranking displayed the popularity of various live streams on different platforms, and Jinjiang had been able to enter the top five of the top ten rooms. Today, the rapid growth in popularity in both streams was quite astonishing, and their combined viewership was leaving everyone else behind.

“What’s going on with these two live streams?”

“Why are they growing so quickly?”

“Wow, I heard they’re feuding.”

On the other hand, Da Yu’s staff quietly mentioned the popularity of the live stream in their room. They were part of a team, so they knew how to maximize their benefits. Finally clashing with Jian Luo after so much time, they decided to seize this opportunity for a boost in viewership.

A room mod said to Da Yu, “Since they like discussing this, you can mention Jian Luo a bit more. It’ll help keep the conversation lively.”

Da Yu replied, “I don’t like creating a fuss.”

The mod smiled, “Jian Luo also became famous through hype. Don’t be concerned; after all, money and fame are more important. You both can win.”

“…”

On the other side, Jian Luo was focused on cooking.

The fish on the cutting board was ready, and the seasonings were prepared. He faced the camera and said, “Remember, we have to remove the fishy smell.”

The viewers’ attention was still mostly on Da Yu’s live stream:

“Jian Luo is crossing the line.”

“He’s talking nonsense.”

“Who would intentionally clash with him to steal viewers? Ridiculous.”

??

Did anything happen while he was preparing the fish?

Jian Luo looked baffled, but he continued to cook the fish. In a calm and gentle tone, he said, “Alright, please don’t mind those comments. I didn’t choose this time to go live with any intention. Everyone doesn’t need to argue. If you prefer to watch someone else, go ahead. It’s all your choice. I don’t mind if you think someone else is better and watch them. There’s no need to argue, right?”

Even though he was working hard, the war still raged on. Jian Luo couldn’t help but feel a bit frustrated. He rubbed his temples and adjusted his settings while saying in a gentle tone, “If it continues like this, I’ll have to turn off the live chat.”

Initially, he had been wearing a mask while cooking to avoid the fishy smell. However, while massaging his temples, he inadvertently loosened the mask, allowing the fishy odor to seep through the gaps and assault his nose.

Jian Luo froze in his tracks, struggling to suppress the nausea building in his stomach, but he couldn’t hold back any longer, “Ugh…”

He rushed to the sink and began retching, his movements so rapid and intense that it left viewers in shock.

What truly shocked them was the intensity of their own sensations. Because Jian Luo’s stream was broadcasting in real-time, viewers could share in his experiences. The momentary nausea and revulsion felt by everyone watching were a revelation:

“My goodness, that sensation was so vivid.”

“I actually felt like I was going to throw up just now.”

“I’ve never experienced this before.”

“Is this what morning sickness feels like?”

A large group of viewers, who were suddenly experiencing the urge to vomit, flooded the chat with their reactions. The stream’s popularity soared to new heights, and all the prior arguments were quickly forgotten.

As people marveled at this unexpected twist of fate, Jian Luo straightened up, leaned against the sink, and let out a light chuckle. Initially, everything seemed normal, but suddenly…

Jian Luo placed his hand on his stomach and then chuckled softly.

At the same time, the anxious viewers who were experiencing these sensations were equally astonished. They almost simultaneously felt the subtle sensations, as if tiny fish were swimming by, or bubbles were gliding across their fingertips. It was as though the little one had given them a gentle greeting.

In an instant, they were overwhelmed by a sense of happiness. For those whose brains didn’t naturally produce happiness factors, the feeling of joy flooded their minds at the same time.

“Ah, the little one is saying hello to me!”

“It’s so adorable!”

“Rounded up, I’m pregnant too, sob!”

“Eh?! Who’s still arguing? I’m immersed in this moment.”

Chapter 133 – Who Says Omegas Can’t be as Explosive as Alphas

Chapter 133: Extra Story Four

To Wen Xingchen’s surprise, after the chaos of the first day settled, Lu Jingning exhibited an unexpected enthusiasm for raising cats.

Not only did he extensively browse through cat care guides online, but he also diligently started experimenting with making cat food in the kitchen.

Observing someone bustling around in the kitchen, Wen Xingchen leaned against the doorway in silence for a moment. Suddenly, he walked up and pulled the person into his arms from behind.

Lu Jingning could feel tiny strands of hair lightly brushing against his neck. Feeling a slight itch, he couldn’t help but nudge him gently with his elbow, “I’m cooking, don’t tease.”

A cryptic tone emerged from behind Wen Xingchen, “You’ve never cooked for me.”

Lu Jingning’s busy movements paused momentarily, seemingly realizing something. He glanced back at the other with a mix of amusement and exasperation, “Wen-ge, are you feeling jealous?”

Unexpectedly, under this banter, Wen Xingchen responded unusually calmly, “Yeah, the vinegar jar has turned into a huge vat. What do you think I should do?”

Lu Jingning: “…”

Wen Xingchen: “So, when are you planning to cook for me next?”

Lu Jingning scooped up a spoonful of a dark substance with a ladle and waved it in front of him, asking, “Are you sure about this? This is the extent of my culinary skills. Are you sure you want to eat it?”

A hint of resigned determination laced Wen Xingchen’s tone, “Even if it’s poisoned.”

Lu Jingning choked for a moment, then couldn’t help but burst into laughter, pushing him lightly, “Okay then, you just wait for me to poison my husband.”

As the two were jesting, a dark shadow whizzed past them, finally landing on the nearby table.

Charcoal stared with curious round eyes at the entwined pair, seemingly puzzled about their actions. It let out a meow in a childish voice.

Lu Jingning wriggled out of Wen Xingchen’s embrace and promptly served the sticky mass from the pot into a cute pet bowl, invitingly saying, “Little Charcoal, come here. See what delicious treat I’ve made for you.”

Charcoal’s gaze shifted from the blurry and peculiar food in the bowl. It bared its teeth at him and swiftly turned away, dashing off without a backward glance.

Lu Jingning: “Damn it! You stinky cat, stop right there!”

Wen Xingchen leaned against the cabinet, watching the antics of the two figures—one large, one small—as they resumed their daily chase, unable to suppress his laughter.

Ever since this little black creature came to their home, such scenes seemed to unfold daily. Strangely enough, no matter how many times he witnessed it, he found it endlessly entertaining.

In the end, Charcoal fell short in terms of stamina, exhaustedly grabbed by Lu Jingning by the neck and brought back, then casually placed in front of the plate of dark cuisine.

With a coaxing tone, Lu Jingning said, “Be good, Charcoal. Try your PAPA’s masterpiece, hmm?”

Charcoal looked at him with a sense of despair, lowered its head, and stared at the seemingly inedible thing in front of it, as if contemplating its tiny existence.

Finally, under Lu Jingning’s increasingly stern gaze, succumbing to the other’s coercion, it tentatively stuck out its pink little tongue and symbolically licked it.

Lu Jingning eagerly awaited its reaction. Yet, the moment the tongue touched the food, the small black mass seemed to be jolted as if electrified, abruptly convulsing and then stiffening completely, collapsing motionless onto the floor.

Lu Jingning’s heart skipped a beat, panicking as he stood up, “Wen-ge! Something’s wrong! What’s happening, Wen-ge!”

Wen Xingchen, witnessing the scene from a distance, raised an eyebrow without a hint of alarm.

Lu Jingning suddenly realized something. When he turned around, the little thing that had just been half-dead and stiff on the ground leaped up the moment he shifted his gaze, swiftly disappearing out of sight.

Lu Jingning: “…”

Damn, it even learned to play dead!

Noticing Wen Xingchen’s faintly curved lips, he cleared his throat and put on a proud tone, “Truly worthy of being raised by General Lu Jingning—the tactical application of feigning death is exemplary!”

Wen Xingchen couldn’t hold back his laughter anymore, “Indeed, it is.”

Lu Jingning, maintaining his expression, shifted his gaze to the window, pretending not to catch the undertone in those words.

After a while, he turned back, looking at Wen Xingchen, “So, are you still sure you want to eat it?”

Without hesitation, Wen Xingchen replied, “Of course.”

In the end, Lu Jingning fulfilled his top’s request, shifting his focus from cat food to egg fried rice.

In theory, this should have been a very simple dish. At least, based on the steps described, it seemed so. However, while Lu Jingning understood every word and sentence in the instructions, when it came to practical application, it seemed quite different.

The thought of Wen Xingchen eating this meal made his hand holding the spatula tremble slightly. Fortunately, the final presentation looked somewhat decent. At least, compared to the dark cat food served to Charcoal, this bowl of egg fried rice didn’t appear as terrifying.

When Wen Xingchen picked up his chopsticks, Lu Jingning could sense an extremely nervous gaze fixed on himself. His lips couldn’t help but curl up slightly, and he calmly took a bite.

Lu Jingning remained attentive to the taster’s reaction. However, from Wen Xingchen’s poker face, he couldn’t discern anything. Unable to resist, he asked, “Is it delicious?”

Chewing slowly, Wen Xingchen responded, “Mm, exceptionally talented.”

Receiving affirmation, Lu Jingning’s previously anxious heart finally eased. Watching Wen Xingchen eat with such relish, he happily served himself a bowl.

As he sat down at the table, he noticed Charcoal looking at him from a distance. Smiling, Lu Jingning invited, “Little Charcoal, delicious food here. Do you want a taste?”

Although Charcoal appeared vigilant, seeing Wen Xingchen enjoying the food, it cautiously took hesitant steps toward them.

Seeing it approach, Lu Jingning’s mood brightened. He picked up a spoon and offered it to Charcoal. Sniffing the food, Charcoal confirmed that it smelled much better than the previous “poison” and cautiously took a small bite.

Lu Jingning beamed, “How is it? Delicious, right—Damn it! Why are you running away?!”

Seeing Charcoal eat a mouthful and then resume escape mode, his expression froze completely. With a furrowed brow and full of doubt, he reluctantly put a spoonful of the food into his own mouth.

As the strange taste flooded his mouth, he immediately spat it out, almost bursting into tears from the saltiness.

Lu Jingning never expected his debut to result in this. Staring at Wen Xingchen in disbelief, he noticed that Wen Xingchen’s bowl was empty without him realizing it. He also saw the almost empty jug of water beside him, his expression turning complicated.

After a brief silence, he reached out to take Wen Xingchen’s bowl, but Wen Xingchen evaded it.

With tightly pursed lips, Lu Jingning said, “It’s so bad, don’t eat it.”

Wen Xingchen took the last few bites, saying, “As long as it’s made by you, it’s delicious.”

If not for the hurried drinking, his indifferent expression might have indeed conveyed such a sentiment.

Lu Jingning felt warmth rush to his ears, unusually disheartened, “It seems like I’m really not cut out for cooking.”

Wen Xingchen chuckled, ruffling his hair, “I like it.”

Lu Jingning looked at him, wanting to say something but ultimately staying silent.

That night, the living room lights remained on throughout.

Lu Jingning, worried, peeked into the bathroom from outside the door countless times, suggesting, “Should we go to the hospital?”

Wen Xingchen, just finished vomiting, weakly waved his hand, “No need, I’ll be fine soon.”

The war god who always stood firm on the battlefield seemed somewhat shaky at this moment.

Lu Jingning handed him another cup of hot water, watching the somewhat pale complexion, feeling both distressed and self-blaming. In his heart, he silently made a resolution—absolutely cannot let Wen-ge suffer another setback! If there’s a next time, he must taste the “poison” himself first!

In a corner not far away, Charcoal’s round eyes watched the two people who were still fussing in the middle of the night, softly meowing to itself. Meow meow meow, luckily, this cat runs fast!

Chapter 132 – Who Says Omegas Can’t be as Explosive as Alphas

Chapter 132: Extra Story Three

Before, Lu Jingning didn’t feel anything was amiss, but after Lu Kongbin’s push for marriage, he indeed felt that something was missing in this home.

He mentioned this inexplicable feeling to Wen Xingchen. After a moment of contemplation, Wen Xingchen asked, “How about getting a pet?”

Lu Jingning was momentarily taken aback by the suggestion, but upon second thought, he smiled brightly, “I think that’s a great idea!”

According to Lu Kongbin, it was about making the home livelier. Besides, they were both ‘little brats,’ so having a pet wouldn’t hurt.

With this thought in mind, Lu Jingning immediately took out his terminal, reclined on the sofa, logged into the Star Network, and started browsing through nearby planets’ pet stores.

Watching Lu Jingning’s swift and resolute actions, Wen Xingchen couldn’t help but smile. Naturally, he leaned in closer and, looking at the myriad of photos on the screen, asked, “So, what kind of pet do you want?”

Without hesitation, an idea flashed through Lu Jingning’s mind, and he replied, “A cat!”

Wen Xingchen didn’t have strong opinions on the specifics. Upon hearing Lu Jingning’s choice, he glanced at him instinctively, a faint curve appearing on his lips.

Lu Jingning, resembling a mischievous cat himself, piqued curiosity. What would it be like for him to have a cat?

At this moment, completely immersed in the passion to add vitality to their home, Lu Jingning failed to notice Wen Xingchen’s smile. As his gaze fell on one of the photos, his eyes lit up. He raised the terminal slightly and asked, “How about this one?”

“You decide.”

Wen Xingchen always indulged Lu Jingning unconditionally, especially in such trivial matters.

However, as Lu Jingning looked up, their eyes met. He raised an eyebrow, casually responded, and then leaned in, lightly pecking the lips that were offered.

Lu Jingning didn’t expect him to take advantage of the situation like this. Annoyed yet amused, he glanced at Wen Xingchen. “So, should I place the order?”

“Go ahead.”

Interstellar logistics nowadays were very efficient. The next morning, the new member of the household arrived.

Lu Jingning had chosen a pure black Persian cat. A small tuft of white fur on its neck resembled a tidy little bowtie. Its two eyes—one blue and one yellow—observed the unfamiliar surroundings with a vigilant glint.

As Wen Xingchen was out, Lu Jingning took responsibility for receiving the delivery. He carried the cage inside and placed it on the living room table after opening it.

He intended to release the kitten, but his movement made the cat retreat further, curling into a dark ball, intensely vigilant.

Thus, man and cat stood frozen, staring at each other in complete silence, the surroundings eerily quiet.

Lu Jingning: “…”

He had never raised a pet before and was genuinely inexperienced. After a long silence, he patted his knees and stood up, “Whenever you want to come out, just come out. I’ll go see where to settle you for now.”

Due to continuous battles in recent years, the pet industry market was exceptionally low. So encountering a customer, the pet store was particularly polite. Along with the Persian cat, a large box of pet supplies arrived, filled to the brim.

Cat climbing frames, slides, food bowls, water bowls, snacks… and more.

Lu Jingning looked at them and felt a headache coming on.

Damn, why did it feel like taking care of a cat was more complicated than raising a child? Did they really need so much equipment?!

His gaze wandered around the room and eventually settled on the relatively spacious balcony. Thus, he moved everything on the ground there in one go.

Lu Jingning couldn’t remember the last time he did such tedious chores.

Back home, they had Lulu, the all-purpose domestic robot. After marriage, due to frequent missions, they rarely stayed at home, usually cleaning once a week. Now, organizing these pet supplies made him more tired than going into battle.

However, encountering these pet items for the first time, Lu Jingning still found them somewhat fascinating. He played around while tidying up, and time slipped away unnoticed.

After fiddling with a pet nail clipper for a while, he picked up a small flashlight-like object, pressing it out of curiosity. A red dot projected onto the floor ahead.

A laser pointer? What’s this for?

He blinked curiously, pondering the purpose of the device, when suddenly, a black shadow whizzed past him. Immediately, a childish meow rang out, “Meow~!”

The little kitten, finally daring to leave the cage, swung its black paws and leaped directly onto the red dot.

With cautious paws covering the spot where the red dot had landed, it took quite a while before the kitten gingerly moved its paws away.

Expecting to find its ‘prey,’ the kitten was bewildered upon releasing its claws, only to find emptiness before it, leaving it staring with puzzled eyes.

Lu Jingning, lost in thought and unknowingly releasing the button, suddenly realized the situation and couldn’t help but burst into laughter at the little black cat’s bewildered expression.

Somewhat aware of the tool’s purpose, Lu Jingning’s playful side got the better of him.

As the red dot moved around the house, the kitten’s agile figure darted around like the wind.

Unfortunately, catching such a red laser light was impossible.

Lu Jingning, amused, couldn’t help but laugh, “Oh, you silly thing!”

Whether or not the cat actually understood, it momentarily bared its teeth in response.

This only made Lu Jingning laugh even harder. He flicked the light to a high shelf, where the water pot was placed.

The playful kitten, enticed by the light, eyed the target, narrowing its eyes slightly. With its two differently colored eyes—one blue and one yellow—a sharp glint flickered, and it pounced.

“Boom!” A loud crash echoed.

Startled, Lu Jingning rushed over to find the shattered pot and a mess around it. And there sat the initiator, the black shadow, now damp and sitting in the middle, its fluffy fur completely drooping, making it appear much smaller. Its two watery eyes now held a look of innocence.

“…”

Lu Jingning sighed heavily and gestured towards it, trying to remain as calm as possible, “Let’s go, I think we should probably take a bath first.”

Unwilling to comply, the kitten didn’t intend to accept his kind call, promptly turning and running away.

Gritting his teeth, Lu Jingning called out, “Stop right there!”

The kitten: “Meow~!”

Thus, man and cat engaged in an intense battle at home. What started as a small spillage of water soon spread across every corner.

Finally, teeth clenched, Lu Jingning stood up from behind the sofa, looking at the cat in his hands and sneered, “Run? Have the guts to keep running!”

In response, the little creature let out a fierce meow.

Then, it wildly struggled, but its short limbs proved futile in Lu Jingning’s grip.

Lu Jingning carried it and marched into the bathroom, shutting the glass door behind.

As the sound of water started, there was a ruckus inside.

“Bathing, be quiet!”

“Keep this up, and I’ll send you back!”

“Damn, do you know how much I spent to get you?!”

“Wow, you smelly cat, you dare scratch me?!”

When Wen Xingchen returned, he didn’t find Lu Jingning in the living room. Instead, what he saw resembled a war zone aftermath.

He blinked, hearing commotion coming from the bathroom direction. Without even taking off his coat, he hurried over, “Aning?”

With the sound of the door opening, both the big and small combatants inside the bathroom turned to look.

In that scene, Wen Xingchen froze in his tracks.

He suddenly seemed to experience what one might call a double critical hit.

Lu Jingning was completely covered in soap bubbles, even pink foam clinging to his hair ends, and the struggling kitten in his arms wasn’t any better.

Though almost entirely covered in bubbles, the kitten remained fiercely defiant, emitting a determined meow.

Wen Xingchen cleared his throat, coughed, and managed not to burst into laughter.

Lu Jingning saw Wen Xingchen and almost instinctively activated the SOS mode, “Wen Ge, come help, this little rascal is really hard to handle!”

“Coming.”

Wen Xingchen responded and casually hung his coat on the handle before joining the bath-time battle.

However, a faint smile lingered around his lips, barely concealed.

He could almost anticipate what it would be like if Lu Jingning had to take care of a child. One rascal was already a handful, let alone two. That would probably lead to chaos sooner or later.

Helping out, he casually asked, “Have you thought of a name for it? What are you planning to call this troublemaker?”

While dealing with the squirming little creature, Lu Jingning didn’t dare exert too much force. Feeling a bit powerless at the moment, he blurted out in response, “Call it Charcoal, or Charcoal.”

“Charcoal?” Wen Xingchen raised an eyebrow.

Lu Jingning gritted his teeth, “It’s black, small, and has an explosive temper, isn’t that like Charcoal?”

The kitten, initially resigned to being handled by the duo, suddenly seemed to understand something. It raised its head and let out a fierce “Meow!” towards Lu Jingning.

Unfortunately, the overly cute and childish tone of its voice made it sound more like it was trying to be adorable.

Wen Xingchen gently rubbed its head, “Welcome to our family, Charcoal.”

Chapter 131 – Who Says Omegas Can’t be as Explosive as Alphas

Chapter 131: Extra Story Two

When Lu Jingning received a call from Lu Kongbin, he was still drowsy, lying in bed. It wasn’t until he fully understood the content of the conversation that he abruptly woke up, “What did you say?”

Lu Kongbin’s voice, unfiltered through the communication device, came through: “I said, you little brat, hurry down and open the door! I’ve been waiting downstairs for damn ages!!!”

Lu Jingning: “???”

Lying beside him, Wen Xingchen vaguely heard the earlier conversation. His lazy furrowed brow showed a hint of curiosity, “Is it your dad?”

Lu Jingning didn’t directly answer. He jumped up from the bed and swiftly ran to the window.

Looking down through the gap in the curtain, he could clearly see the two tall figures standing at the entrance.

He fell silent for a moment, then turned back to give Wen Xingchen a deep look, “And your dad too.”

Wen Xingchen: “…”

Lu Jingning was now wide awake in an instant. He hurriedly put on some clothes, his face expressionless as he scanned the somewhat messy environment inside the room. Unable to hold back, he muttered in frustration, “Damn it, should’ve asked Er Ge to lend us Lulu!”

He had previously felt something missing in his new place, and now it dawned on him—it lacked an all-around domestic robot!

Wen Xingchen’s dressing pace was considerably slower. He couldn’t help but lightly chuckle and reminded, “Remember to lock the door later.”

Indeed, it needed to be locked. Can’t let the elders see this chaotic scene, embarrassing.

Upon hearing this, Lu Jingning couldn’t help but grab a pillow and throw it at him.

Listening to Wen Xingchen’s laughter even after being hit, heat flushed Lu Jingning’s face uncontrollably. He muttered resentfully, “Making such a mess, I wonder who’s to blame!”

Lu Kongbin didn’t actually come with Wen Muqiao. They coincidentally met at the door.

Despite a slight easing in their relationship after becoming in-laws, each encounter still couldn’t avoid a standoffish air between them.

In this recent period, a rare moment of peace during the war, everyone had a bit of free time. Yet, as soon as they had this free time, they started contemplating the future.

These matters, some trivial and some crucial, were now on their minds. Among them, undoubtedly, the most concerning was the monumental event of continuing the family line.

For this reason, the two fathers, without any prior arrangement, made this trip, leading to this “encounter.”

Lu Jingning invited the two inside, poured each a cup of tea very obediently, then stood by, observing them, curious about the intentions of these two.

Lu Kongbin and Wen Muqiao already knew each other’s purpose, so they sat there, maintaining a reserved demeanor, waiting for the other to start.

For a while, the conversation veered off in various directions, none touching the main subject.

Wen Xingchen had been sitting silently on the nearby sofa. After a few hours, he couldn’t stay silent any longer.

He sat up, lightly tapping the coffee table with his slender fingertips, a faint curve on his lips, “So, rushing over early in the morning, what is it for?”

Probably due to wandering too much outside, the constantly changing Omega spouses, Wen Muqiao finally realized his previous mistake. Recently, he decisively proposed to Yu Zhi again, persistently asking for marriage until finally obtaining the certificate.

After remarriage, with Yu Zhi mediating between them, it somewhat eased the relationship between father and son.

Wen Muqiao still carried a trace of guilt in his heart. At this moment, he cherished this hard-won affection even more. He appeared more afraid of his son than before. Hence, Wen Xingchen didn’t ask, making Wen Muqiao unable to bring it up. He could only desperately signal Lu Kongbin, hoping he’d bring up the topic.

Lu Kongbin had previously hinted to Lu Jingning about the issue of procreation, but it didn’t end well. Seeing this situation, he couldn’t help but give Wen Muqiao a sarcastic look, “Are your eyes malfunctioning?”

This old man, normally he wouldn’t miss anything, yet now he’s trying so hard to make him the scapegoat?

Wen Muqiao was retorted, and both corners of his lips drooped.

After a moment of silence, he turned to Lu Jingning, his expression unchanged as he said, “Ningning, your dad is here today because he has something to tell you.”

Lu Jingning looked up at Lu Kongbin, “Dad, what’s the matter?”

Despite cursing Wen Muqiao in his mind countless times, Lu Kongbin forced a smile on his face.

After organizing his thoughts, he asked in a coaxing manner, “Well, Dad is getting old, and I’m thinking maybe it’s time to retire in a while…”

Chapter 131: Extra Story II

Lu Jingning chuckled, “What are you thinking? Given the current war situation, the military won’t allow you to retire for another twenty or thirty years, I reckon?”

“Cough…”

Lu Kongbin choked, fell silent for a moment, then continued, “What I meant was, don’t you feel your mom is actually quite lonely staying at home all the time?”

Lu Jingning didn’t catch on, blinked at him in confusion.

Lu Kongbin said, “Well… You and Xingchen have been married for quite a while. Although I know you’re both in a rising phase in your careers, young people sometimes shouldn’t just focus on work. You should also consider other things, think more about the future.”

“Other things?”

Lu Kongbin looked at him expectantly, “Kid, can you understand what Dad is saying?”

Under his sparkling gaze, Lu Jingning fell silent for a moment, then earnestly said, “Dad, if you’re worried about inheritance issues, you don’t need to consider us.”

“?”

Lu Jingning patted his hand gently and spoke sincerely, “Even if you and Mom give us another brother or sister, I won’t have any objections.”

As if to completely reassure Lu Kongbin, he added solemnly, “Big Brother and Second Brother probably think the same way. So, don’t burden yourself with these thoughts!”

“Phew—!”

Wen Muqiao, who had been quietly listening nearby, couldn’t hold back and sprayed the tea he’d just sipped all over when he heard the last two sentences.

Lu Kongbin’s face twitched viciously, his expression suddenly colorful and especially splendid.

Wen Xingchen, suppressing the smile at the corner of his lips, pulled Lu Jingning closer and whispered softly in his ear, “Dad means, when will he get to hold a grandchild?”

Lu Kongbin had never been more satisfied with Wen Xingchen, so understanding. He was almost moved to tears, “Yes! That’s what I meant!”

Lu Jingning was initially stunned, then, feeling the warmth brushing against his ear, he couldn’t help but blush slightly.

He glared at Lu Kongbin, unamused, “Can’t you just say it straightforwardly? Why beat around the bush like this?”

It’s not like I’d be upset!

Lu Kongbin grumbled in his mind, looking expectantly, “So, are you agreeing?”

“How did you conclude that?” Lu Jingning, contrary to his usual easygoing demeanor, felt his face growing hotter as he spoke, “As you said, Xingchen and I are in a critical phase in our careers, with important positions at hand, constantly having to visit the battlefield. When do we have the time?”

Though he had anticipated this answer early on, Lu Kongbin still looked visibly disappointed.

Lu Jingning glanced at him, suggesting earnestly, “Instead of coming to me, why not talk to Big Brother? He’s been married longer than us and there’s been no sign of a child. Isn’t he anxious too?”

Lu Kongbin’s expression turned serious, “How do you know I’m not anxious?”

[In the first galaxy, Lu Jiyuan sneezed repeatedly: ???]

Seeing his dad’s genuinely distressed expression, Lu Jingning comforted him by putting a hand on his shoulder, “Rare that you’re here. Stay for a meal, Old Lu?”

After lunch, the two dads left with low spirits.

Once Lu Jingning saw them off and returned to the room, the door was gently closed by someone waiting in the corridor.

Raising his head, he saw a tall figure enveloping him almost entirely.

Lu Jingning lifted his gaze, “What’s up, Wen Ge?”

Wen Xingchen bent down, almost at eye level with him, a faint smile in his deep eyes, “Really not considering it?”

Knowing what he meant, Lu Jingning felt his face heating up but retorted, “Consider what?”

Wen Xingchen gazed at him for a while, his expression soft, clearly not buying Lu Jingning’s act of feigned ignorance, “Actually, I’m looking forward to it. What do you think we should do?”

Lu Jingning tilted his head, his voice involuntarily lowering, “You know how hard I’ve worked to stabilize my position in the military. If now…”

Before he could finish, his lips were softly sealed, muffling the remainder of his words.

This kiss was deep and long, spreading a myriad of pheromones freely in the air.

When the person in his arms softened completely from the kiss, Wen Xingchen gently released him, his tender voice filled with endless indulgence, “No rush. Anytime is fine. I’ll wait for you.”

Feeling a bit dizzy from the kiss, Lu Jingning couldn’t help but curse inwardly.

Damn, using charm again, always breaking the rules!

Chapter 93 – Eloping with a lover

Chapter 93 – Eloping with a lover

Jian Luo had never expected to be questioned at the school.

This put him in a dilemma because, in the first place, this body was, to put it bluntly, quite subpar. If one were to describe it based on its history, it could really be summed up in just two words: “not tall.”

Is his true mentor now not Zhan Wentai?

Or can it not be considered a school?

Jian Luo fell into deep thought and, in the end, chose to be honest, “At the Starry Sea Academy.”

As soon as he said that, the entire hall quieted down considerably. You see, most people had heard of Starry Sea Academy, and it was known to be a lower-tier institution, not quite esteemed.

As expected.

Someone sneered, “Is it this academy? I’ve never heard that they teach medicine there.”

Others chimed in:

“Assistant Commander[/mfn]They started calling Jian Luo this.[/mfn], you should rest easy.”

“Being a human, he’s certainly trying his best.”

“Assistant Commander, it’s not easy to become an invaluable aide to the Marshal.”

Almost everyone indulged in various forms of sarcasm. Unfortunately, in the vast universe, might makes right, and weaker races receive little respect.

The hushed murmurs continued, but suddenly, they all fell silent. The reason was simple: Lu Shifeng, who had been sitting silently nearby, lifted his head. He raised his eyelids, and his blood-red, expressionless eyes swept over the faces of the people, like icy blades grazing their bodies, causing their hair to stand on end.

Lu Shifeng’s lips curled, and he asked the one who had spoken first, “Go on, why did you stop talking?”

The person choked.

“Or should we continue the conversation?” Lu Shifeng toyed with a wine cup in his hand. “Sitting alone there is quite dull, isn’t it?”

“…”

The minister wiped the sweat from his forehead and stammered, “You’re joking, Your Excellency.”

Lu Shifeng was about to speak when Jian Luo discreetly tugged at the big man’s sleeve, signaling him to let it go. Jian Luo didn’t mind.

He was used to it.

And if the patient didn’t accept treatment, it wasn’t his problem.

The queen above asked, “Assistant Commander, did you become skilled on your own?”

Jian Luo didn’t expect the queen to ask that. He nodded, “A little.”

“Indeed,” the queen smiled gently. “Assistant Commander seems quite extraordinary. I’m sure there must be something special about him to become the right hand of the Marshal.”

Lu Shifeng remained expressionless, but his imposing aura had diminished somewhat.

The leader also chimed in, “Assistant Commander is indeed extraordinary, and he even diagnosed Your Excellency’s illness at a glance. I wonder which medical text he studied, and we should acquire it for further study.”

Jian Luo didn’t take credit and responded, “I’d be willing to provide reference materials, but these are from the Phoenix Pavilion’s collection. Without the High Priest’s permission, I dare not lend them without authorization.”

With that statement, the surroundings fell silent once more.

People exchanged puzzled glances, and some couldn’t believe their ears. Phoenix Pavilion? Was this the same Phoenix Pavilion they’d imagined?

“Is it for real?”

“They say the High Priest only lends it to close relatives.”

But in just a few moments, everyone’s gaze toward Jian Luo had changed dramatically. The earlier disdain had vanished, replaced by a mixture of respect and awe. Many had also realized that if he were just an ordinary human, how could he have become Lu Shifeng’s assistant and acquired access to the Phoenix Pavilion’s collection?

Was he truly an ordinary human?

No, he was practically a deity!

Clearly, the leader shared this sentiment as well. He said, “It’s actually from the Phoenix Pavilion’s collection. We were ignorant. Since Assistant Commander has brought medicine, let’s try it on Your Excellency.”

The queen also expressed her gratitude, “Thank you, Assistant Commander.”

Jian Luo hadn’t expected that just the mention of Zhan Wentai’s title would lead to such a change in attitude. He chuckled, “Very well.”

With the conversation concluded, Jian Luo began to contemplate how to prepare the medicine correctly. He had encountered this page in the medical texts, and it required quite a variety of medicinal herbs.

However, this time on Little Blue Star, he had collected quite a few herbs. He planned to consult an old Chinese doctor and make several prescriptions, which should be no problem.

Lu Shifeng picked up a fruit and placed it in front of Jian Luo.

Jian Luo snapped out of his thoughts, curious as he asked, “What’s this?”

“It’s a Shattered Fruit,” Lu Shifeng explained succinctly. “A local specialty here. Eating it allows you to dream.”

“Dream?” Jian Luo was puzzled. “But I usually dream even without eating anything.”

Lu Shifeng seemed to anticipate his question and said, “It can predict future dreams. The timeline is uncertain, based on individual experiences.”

What kind of miraculous fruit was this?

This was the first time Jian Luo had encountered such a fruit up close, and he was too excited to eat it immediately. If he had a phone, he might have taken a picture to share on his social media.

The fruit’s appearance was also far from ideal. It was entirely red and covered in prickles, making it appear unappetizing. Just by looking at it, no one could imagine its extraordinary properties.

Jian Luo, still excited, said, “Let’s try one.”

Lu Shifeng, in a nonchalant tone, warned, “The taste of this fruit is unique. If you can’t handle it, don’t force yourself.”

“It’s okay, how unique could it be… Ugh!”

Jian Luo’s stomach suddenly revolted as he took a bite of the fruit. The taste was indescribable, bitter with a hint of something unpleasant, something he wouldn’t have eaten even if you paid him.

In the nick of time, Jian Luo had a sudden realization. He quickly wrapped his arms around Lu Shifeng’s arm, leaning close to him with his head resting on Lu Shifeng’s shoulder. Taking this opportunity, he took a few deep breaths, absorbing the pheromones emanating from Lu Shifeng’s body, which he had found to have a powerful calming effect. One breath could cure a hundred ailments.

As expected, in just a few breaths, his stomach’s strong reaction had improved considerably.

Jian Luo made an effort to swallow and finally managed to get the fruit down. He said excitedly, “I wonder what kind of dreams I’ll have. I’m so excited; I might not be able to sleep.”

Lu Shifeng said, “Don’t get too excited.”

Curious, Jian Luo asked, “Why not?”

“Because it’s not a guarantee that you’ll dream every time,” Lu Shifeng said nonchalantly. “So, keep a calm mind.”

“…”

This guy.

Nevertheless, Jian Luo was curious about this so-called precognition ability. It was quite intriguing to talk about, and even though he couldn’t choose which future he would see, it was still exciting, knowing it might come true eventually.

However, their departure from the council chamber marked the beginning of a tour.

The leader said, “This time, our upgraded defense shield has undergone significant improvements. It operates based on self-pressure sensitivity and a specific magnetic field intensity. Its misactivation rate has been tested over millions of times and functions normally in different magnetic fields and pressure conditions in major star systems.”

A defense shield!?

Suddenly, Jian Luo became interested.

The entire glass screen displayed the latest defense shield in action. From the outside, it looked the same as the inside, with a scarecrow placed in the middle. A multitude of fierce creatures with small sharp teeth surrounded it and swarmed toward it. However, at a certain distance from the scarecrow, the defense shield automatically activated, repelling all the creatures.

The presenter explained, “Our latest defense shield uses the M78 sensing screen. It’s incredibly flexible and can counteract the force of an attack, returning up to 45% of the force exerted by attacking beasts.”

Leaning against the wall, Lu Shifeng spoke slowly, “What if it’s mistakenly triggered by our own soldiers or accidental contact?”

The presenter had already prepared an answer, “Of course, we’ve anticipated this issue. The entire defense shield uses an entry and exit pattern. It quickly and accurately captures the information pheromones of those leaving, only defending against those not yet inside. The mode can be adjusted in real-time, and we have abandoned quantity stones for this model. This defense shield employs full artificial…”

She continued to talk for a long time, and Jian Luo didn’t hear a word of it. He only caught a crucial point—abandoned quantity stones!

They don’t want them?

The new defense shield seemed to be very expensive, and Jian Luo thought it was a perfect fit for his scavenging skills.

Seizing the opportunity while the presenter was giving her passionate speech, Jian Luo whispered to Lu Shifeng, “How much does this new defense shield cost?”

Lu Shifeng, with an extra ounce of patience for the Assistant Commander, said, “It depends on the size. One square meter costs 1 million star coins.”

…?

Jian Luo’s eyes widened, and he almost stopped breathing.

“How… how expensive is that?” Jian Luo exclaimed, then quickly whispered, “How many do we need?”

The secretary next to them said, “Lu Luo, these are combat defensive shields intended for all battleships. We don’t need to purchase this one, even though its security is sufficient. In actual combat, it falls short.”

Jian Luo nodded and said, “I see.”

Although it might not be enough for the big shots, it was more than sufficient for a place like Little Blue Star, where their biggest battles were usually against local wildlife.

Jian Luo inquired, “So, which one are we going to purchase then?”

The secretary pointed to a nearby transparent protective shield.

As expected, the presenter recognized the lack of interest in the previous one and switched to introduce the main attraction. “This is our latest 3.0 defense shield, which is both offensive and defensive. It comes with an embedded anti-reconnaissance system, capable of predicting enemy movement within approximately 100 kilometers…”

Jian Luo’s mind was still on the previous model.

At a rate of 1 million star coins per square meter, calculating the cost to cover the city at their base, it would cost several billion.

The sum of money was enormous, beyond comprehension, and thinking about it made Jian Luo feel impoverished.

After the tour, it was already dark outside.

Lu Shifeng asked, “Are you thinking of buying any?”

Jian Luo sighed, “No, I don’t have that much money. I’ll think about it some more.”

Lu Shifeng didn’t ask further.

Although he was somewhat troubled, Jian Luo was the kind of person with a broad mind. He quickly put his concerns behind him and began to look forward to dreaming about the future once again.

The room provided to them by the industrial star was full of high-tech features.

As they entered, the light door unlocked on its own. Once inside, the sensor lights automatically lit up, and all the room’s devices started running. There were minimal furnishings, and everything was controlled through the wall’s light screen.

In general, it was a highly advanced and futuristic place, even though Dark Star’s technology was not lacking either.

Lu Shifeng commented, “The bed here doesn’t have a mattress.”

Jian Luo looked at the central bed, noticing its unique design. It was a kind of suspended bed, floating in the air. When a person lay on it, it felt like entering a sleeping pod. Everything seemed fine, except for the fact that it was quite firm.

“I didn’t expect that,” Jian Luo said.

He didn’t know if he would get used to sleeping on it or if it would affect his ability to dream.

Lu Shifeng gave him a glance and said, “Let the secretary bring your mattress from your bed at home. We’ll put it on here later.”

“???”

Jian Luo was taken aback, filled with surprise.

Lu Shifeng stated, “I’ve finally put on some weight; it can’t stand too much hardship.”

“…”

Go to hell.

Regardless of the process, in the end, Jian Luo got his way and slept on the larger bed. Because this planet’s industry was so advanced, the bed’s functions were impressive. It had a sleep mode, a learning mode, and even an internet mode.

It was essentially a must-have bed for nerds and otaku.

Jian Luo chose the sleep mode, and when he activated it, he could clearly feel the firmness of the bed adjusting to the most comfortable position for sleeping. It would aid him in falling asleep faster.

The dream world was chaotic.

Jian Luo found himself momentarily lost in this dreamscape. It felt like he was looking at himself from a god-like perspective. He lay in a small room, which could only be described as shabby. It was raining outside, and he was alone in the room.

Jian Luo was writhing in pain on the bed when he started to wonder what was happening.

Suddenly, dragons appeared!

Three dragons emerged right in front of him!

???

Jian Luo’s eyes widened, and he could hardly believe it. He had imagined what his future might look like, but he couldn’t have imagined this particular scenario.

He, alone, had birthed a child and was inside a thatched hut.

In the dream, he slowly sat up. The three baby dragons that had hatched were still quite small, about the size of his palm. They were all wet, two of them were black, and one had a pale, golden-colored skin. Jian Luo suspected it might have inherited his skin tone. Well, it was fine that way; it balanced out his dream of having golden dragons, even if the color was mixed.

Just as he was thinking about this, one of the baby dragons slowly opened its eyes. They were a pure and vibrant blood-red color.

Then, he heard faint whining sounds. The dragon babies were hungry and wanted to eat. Unfortunately, there was nothing to eat in the thatched hut, only a profound sense of loneliness.

Evidently, Jian Luo in the dream realized this, too. Just as Jian Luo thought he was about to come up with a solution, he watched as he took something from storage, which he couldn’t identify but suspected might be a steamed bun, and crushed a piece to feed to the dragon baby.

???

“No way!”

Jian Luo sat up from his bed, surprised.

When he opened his eyes again, there was no difference in the furnishings in the room from before he fell asleep. He breathed lightly and had a layer of sweat on his forehead. Recalling the scene from his dream, it sent shivers down his spine.

What on earth was that?

Why was he in a thatched hut?

He was supposed to be the world’s hope, so why was he starting by eating a steamed bun?

Before eating that fruit, he was filled with anticipation, thinking he would foresee a beautiful future. Who would have thought that the future he saw was not beautiful in the least?

Jian Luo was overwhelmed with discomfort. He covered his face and said, “This can’t be real…”

Just as he was pondering this, he heard Lu Shifeng’s voice beside him, “Having a bad dream?”

Jian Luo suddenly looked up and found Lu Shifeng standing there, dressed impeccably in military attire. Whenever the Grand Marshal appeared, it felt like he was a source of stability.

Jian Luo replied, “I had a dream.”

Lu Shifeng raised an eyebrow and asked, “About the future?”

“I’m not sure,” Jian Luo replied. He was reluctant to accept that it was about the future. “I dreamt that I gave birth to a child in a thatched hut.”

Lu Shifeng sat down beside him and calmly said, “Dark Star possesses the most comprehensive tracking system. If you try to run, your chances of success will be as high as the size of a speck of dust.”

Jian Luo was unconvinced. “Why would I want to run? It’s not like I’m eloping with a lover. What’s the benefit of running? I have my mother and brother to consider. I’m not that silly!”

Lu Shifeng seemed satisfied with his response, and his gaze held a trace of approval. “That’s the best way.”

Under the weight of that gaze, Jian Luo suddenly felt a bit flustered. He cautiously ventured toward the edge of disaster with a wild question, “What if… I mean, just if… if I were to run with them, what would happen?”

Chapter 129 – Who Says Omegas Can’t be as Explosive as Alphas

Chapter 129: Unveiling Together (2)

When he saw the vast fleet appearing in the sky above the planet, Cen Junfeng was on the verge of tears from overwhelming joy.

Whether it was due to spending too much time with Lu Jingning or perhaps because of their underlying camaraderie, he couldn’t wait for Wen Xingchen to disembark from the battleship. He rushed up without any reservation, filled with pent-up frustrations: “I’m not kidding, Admiral, could you please take better care of your Omega? Running around aimlessly all day long, who could endure that? Seriously, who could?!”

Whether other crew members thought Cen Junfeng had gone mad, they knew one thing: his incessant chatter was close to driving them insane.

How else could these people be from Admiral Lu Jingning’s team? Being able to speak so freely to their commanding officer, it was akin to disregarding their own lives!

Wen Xingchen’s gaze swept towards the seemingly bottomless abyss, interrupting Cen Junfeng’s incessant rant with an expressionless face: “How long has he been down there?”

Cen Junfeng counted on his fingers: “Five days…”

A faint press of Wen Xingchen’s lips showed a hint of seriousness. He shrugged off his coat and casually tossed it to a crew member: “I’ll go check.”

Cen Junfeng: “Huh?”

“You don’t need to come along.”

Before anyone could react, without giving a moment for response, Wen Xingchen effortlessly stashed an energy gun into his pouch, took the sword handed to him, and walked away, disappearing in the blink of an eye.

Cen Junfeng: “??!”

He held back but couldn’t contain his outburst: “What the heck?!”

They say, “Different families have different rules,” but what were the quirks with these two?

Compared to Lu Jingning’s crew, who had weathered many storms, one crew member asked calmly, “Sir, what should we do now?”

A sharp tug at the corner of Cen Junfeng’s mouth ceased any further hesitation. Swiftly, he armed himself and hurriedly followed, leaving behind a final instruction: “I’ll assist! Keep watch up here, don’t let those insectoids escape!”

The group responded solemnly, “We’ll ensure the mission is completed, Sir!”

After several days, under Lu Jingning’s decisive methods, even the cunning insectoids were turned upside down by him.

Completing the last stronghold, he clapped his hands contentedly and let out a long sigh.

Ah, finally, everything was taken care of!

The efficiency was satisfactory, though he wasn’t sure how much time had passed. Yet, roughly estimating, the mission should have ended on time.

With the task completed, he felt an instant relief. Glancing around, he casually picked up a rare metal rod and prepared to return the way he came.

The terrain below the abyss was somewhat intricate, but he had marked his path, making it easy to find the way back.

As Lu Jingning walked, his mind wandered.

So, how should such a special anniversary be celebrated? That was indeed a question…

Lost in thought, his steps didn’t falter. However, as he took a step, an instinctual sense of danger sent a slight chill down his neck, causing him to pause momentarily.

What’s wrong? Could there be remnants?

While the thought flashed through his mind, Lu Jingning didn’t hesitate. Almost instantly, he swung a rod towards the source.

The sharp sound of rare metal striking pierced his ears.

Unexpectedly, the opponent managed to catch his strike bare-handed. Before Lu Jingning could feel surprised, a familiar voice echoed from afar: “Don’t move, friend!”

Recognizing Cen Junfeng, Lu Jingning hesitated for a moment, halting his intended second attack.

When he turned around, he met a pair of unreadable eyes.

Lu Jingning’s movements seemed to freeze in that instant: “Brother Wen… Why are you here?”

Wen Xingchen looked down at him, a faint smile playing at his lips: “Why do you think I’m here?”

Lu Jingning remained silent for a moment, then turned, glaring fiercely at Cen Junfeng.

Cen Junfeng pretended not to notice and whistled innocently: “Uh, I’m here to keep watch for you guys!”

Chapter 129: Unveiling Together (2)

Finishing his words, he swiftly bolted away without a glance back, leaving no chance for any cover-up.

His decisive reaction was so adept that it made one feel sorry for him.

With the troublesome third wheel gone, the surroundings immediately quieted down completely.

For a moment, they could even hear each other’s breathing.

This chapter is not complete. Click on the next page to continue reading.

At that moment, Lu Jingning seemed like a student caught red-handed by the principal, quietly looking down at the ground, rare hints of guilt showing on his face.

He hadn’t forgotten his firm assurances when Wen Xingchen had left. However, this was a special circumstance, right? It couldn’t all be blamed on him, could it?

Wen Xingchen had come a long way, presumably harboring a lot of anger. But for some reason, seeing the person in front of him looking so remorseful, he suddenly felt uncertain about how to react.

After a while, he managed to lower his voice as much as possible and asked, “Why so quiet?”

Lu Jingning quirked a brow: “You go first.”

Hearing the use of respectful language, Wen Xingchen almost chuckled. He reached out, forcefully lifting Lu Jingning’s chin, forcing him to meet his eyes: “Running around everywhere, and I should speak first?”

Lu Jingning could see the restrained anger in those eyes, and seeing the disheveled appearance of the man before him, he knew what had happened. Unusually, he didn’t retort but promptly admitted his mistake: “Wen Ge, I know I was wrong.”

Wen Xingchen had intended to scold him properly, at least to give this troublemaker a bit of a lesson. However, hearing such a soft tone, he found it hard to maintain his stern expression.

Struggling to suppress the curve of his lips, he glanced deeply at the person before him: “You said the same last time.”

Lu Jingning keenly felt a slight relaxation in the atmosphere and, seizing the opportunity, leaned in, gently pecking Wen Xingchen’s lips: “This time, I truly know I was wrong.”

Wen Xingchen’s emotions, carefully brewed for a while, shattered with this unexpected kiss.

Initially intending to say something, Lu Jingning found this tactic particularly effective and intensified his efforts.

Planting kisses one after another, he earnestly reassured: “My dear Wen Ge, I’m truly sorry, won’t dare again.”

They hadn’t seen each other for quite a while.

The cold and distant atmosphere was not suitable for a reunion, but under Lu Jingning’s provocations, it brought forth an overwhelming longing.

Initially just a one-sided attempt to please, under the uncontrollable emotions, Wen Xingchen’s brewing feelings of anger dissipated completely during the return journey.

Eventually, the two found themselves locked in each other’s arms, a brief touch turning into a deep and lengthy kiss.

After a long while, having vented all their emotions thoroughly, they reluctantly separated.

Wen Xingchen looked at the watery eyes of Lu Jingning, neither smiling nor scolding, finally asking helplessly, “So, why were you in such a rush to finish here?”

Unexpectedly, Lu Jingning didn’t answer, instead casting a reproachful glance and sounding displeased: “Have you forgotten?”

Wen Xingchen was slightly taken aback: “Forgotten what?”

Lu Jingning shrugged: “If you’ve forgotten, forget it.”

Wen Xingchen, grasping the random statement, suddenly realized: “You mean our wedding anniversary?”

Lu Jingning, with a touch of irritation, glanced at him: “What else?”

Such an important day was marked by both of them every year; it was impossible to forget. Yet, Wen Xingchen hadn’t expected Lu Jingning to be so reckless, all in an effort to make it on that day.

He couldn’t quite describe his feelings, but he felt a sudden softening of his tensed heart.

Wen Xingchen gazed at Lu Jingning for a long time, his lips finally twitching faintly. However, his words remained strict: “Whatever the reason, it’s not a reason to venture into danger alone.”

Lu Jingning, caught off guard by Wen Xingchen’s firmness despite his own guilt, could only mutter reluctantly, “Then what do you want?”

As the words fell, he suddenly felt lighter as Wen Xingchen hoisted him up by the waist.

A look of surprise flashed in his eyes, as Wen Xingchen’s deep and magnetic voice landed softly near his ear: “When we return, see how I’ll punish you.”

Such words, if heard by other crew members, would surely shock them. However, in the current ambiguous setting, these words held a different, profound meaning.

Rarely feeling his cheeks warm, Lu Jingning didn’t struggle but instead snuggled into the familiar embrace, letting himself be carried away.

Words were said in a civilized manner, but what other punishment could there be?

Tsk, coming back and finding excuses to act naughty, shameless!

Chapter 130 – Who Says Omegas Can’t be as Explosive as Alphas

Chapter 130: Extra Story One

At the banquet hosted by senior military officials, the hall was filled with a lavish display of clinking glasses and bustling conversations. However, for five-year-old Lu Jingning, it all seemed excessively dull.

Taking advantage of the time when his dad and older brother were occupied with socializing, he slipped away unnoticed. The evening breeze carried a unique coolness, a stark contrast to the overly bustling atmosphere inside the hall.

With everyone crowded inside, it meant no one would interfere with Lu Jingning’s actions, granting him an unusual sense of freedom. He casually found a small twig on the way, recalling the path from memory, and strolled toward the slightly secluded artificial lake.

Though only five this year, under the guidance of Lu Kongbin, little Lu Jingning had already begun creating his own moves. The pond at home was rather small, so this was a perfect chance to utilize the larger lake to test the effectiveness of his new move.

Calculating in his mind, Lu Jingning felt quite pleased. Seeing no one around, he gleefully waved the twig in his hand and dashed towards the lake.

However, before the twig completed its full arc in the air and as he was about to hurl it towards the center of the lake, an unexpectedly slender figure appeared in his field of vision.

Lu Jingning abruptly halted his movement, almost using all his strength to forcefully alter the direction of the twig. Instead of splitting the surface of the lake as intended, the momentum diverted, causing the nearby bushes to be overturned with a clatter.

The commotion drew the attention of Wen Xingchen, standing by the lake, prompting him to turn around. Despite the somewhat immature appearance on Lu Jingning’s face, there was hardly any surprise at such an abrupt event. He calmly gazed at Lu Jingning standing not far away.

Perhaps due to the sudden distraction, there was a faint furrow on his brow when his gaze shifted from the blonde hair.

Despite the late hour and the absence of streetlights nearby, it didn’t hinder Lu Jingning’s vision. Initially sensing someone’s presence, the faint starlight revealed that the person was actually a child around his age, yet with a rather serious and mature demeanor.

In simple terms, a disposition that completely contradicted his short stature.

Seeing the other person furrow his brows, Lu Jingning unconsciously mimicked the expression. He hurriedly took three steps and dashed over, standing right in front of Wen Xingchen, staring motionlessly for a while.

Though only five, Wen Xingchen already had a somewhat aloof character. His gaze shifted from the blonde hair and he asked, “Good-looking?”

Lu Jingning was caught off guard by the question, his round eyes widening even further. “What are you doing here so late? It could have been dangerous if I hadn’t stopped in time!”

Wen Xingchen’s lips twitched slightly. “Aren’t you a kid?”

Lu Jingning, although retorted against, didn’t seem angry. It seemed as if he suddenly remembered something. After observing Wen Xingchen for a while, he approached with a smile. “Are you an Alpha?”

Caught off guard by the sudden change in topic, Wen Xingchen hesitated. “Yes.”

In this era, all ABO orientations were generally detected accurately at birth and weren’t considered much of a secret.

Lu Jingning’s eyes lit up at the revelation and he asked, “How old are you?”

Wen Xingchen replied, “Five.”

Just after answering, he fell into a brief silence. Why did he even bother answering this little brat’s question?

Lu Jingning simply said, “Oh,” then tilted his head and smiled at him. “Would you mind arm wrestling with me?”

Wen Xingchen remained silent.

Lu Jingning, very actively, grabbed his hand and pulled him outside. “Even though I’m an Omega, my goal is to defeat all the Alphas. In my family, there’s only my dad as an Alpha, who’s an adult. It’s normal I can’t beat him, so meeting you is great! Since we’re both five, let’s see who’s stronger, alright?”

Wen Xingchen replied, “Not interested.”

He came outside to find some peace, only to unexpectedly encounter someone even more unsettling.

However, Lu Jingning seemed oblivious to his response, happily declaring, “Let’s decide on it happily like this!”

The two of them, hand in hand, swiftly emerged from the trees by the lake’s edge.

Wen Xingchen’s gaze lowered slightly, falling upon the small hands tightly clasped together. Although they were just kids, Omega wrists appeared slimmer. As Lu Jingning pulled him along, the warmth from their joined palms transmitted a pleasant sensation, dispersing a considerable amount of the night’s chill.

Wen Xingchen found himself distracted for a moment, forgetting to pull away. When he snapped back to reality, Lu Jingning had already stopped, pointing excitedly to a nearby pavilion. His eyes sparkled with anticipation. “Let’s compete here!”

Subconsciously, Wen Xingchen wanted to refuse, but upon meeting Lu Jingning’s gaze, for some unknown reason, he agreed reluctantly. “Just one round.”

Lu Jingning had no objections to the number of rounds. Upon hearing Wen Xingchen’s agreement, he was delighted. Bending down, he earnestly rolled up the sleeves on both their small hands.

Observing Lu Jingning’s overly earnest demeanor, Wen Xingchen couldn’t help but want to laugh. Yet, just as Lu Jingning was about to raise his head, Wen Xingchen swiftly averted his gaze, also lowering his head to roll up his sleeves.

If anyone happened to pass by, they would witness two small figures standing on either side of stone chairs inside the spacious pavilion. Their elbows rested on the chair’s surface, hands tightly clasped together. Except for their flushed faces, it would appear as if time had frozen.

Eventually, both couldn’t sustain the strain, and in a tie, they collapsed on the ground, panting heavily, utterly disregarding their composure.

Lu Jingning, looking at Wen Xingchen, extended his thumb, praising generously, “You’re amazing!”

Accustomed to various compliments, Wen Xingchen felt his cheeks redden even more at this sincere praise.

After a moment’s thought, he replied, “You’re amazing too.”

Lu Jingning seemed to be pondering something and didn’t have much of a reaction to his words. After a while, he earnestly asked, “Are all these Alphas as impressive as you?”

Sensing Lu Jingning’s slight disappointment, Wen Xingchen instinctively wanted to comfort him. After contemplating for a while, he picked a phrase he thought the other might like to hear. “Probably. I might be a bit more exceptional.”

Although he wasn’t close to Wen Muqiao, judging from others’ attitudes, he could generally sense the disparity between himself and other kids his age. This difference likely stemmed from their abilities.

Initially feeling defeated because he couldn’t surpass Lu Kongbin and now not even able to beat a randomly encountered Alpha, Lu Jingning felt utterly disheartened.

However, hearing Wen Xingchen’s response slightly eased his mind. He softly uttered, “Hmm,” with a serious expression, extending his pinky finger. With a hint of pride and stubbornness in his tone, he said, “Let’s make a promise with a pinky swear. I’ll definitely surpass you next time!”

Under his intense gaze, Wen Xingchen, strangely moved, extended his hand as well. The two tiny fingers gently hooked together.

In the faint starlight, this might be the longest-lasting secret pact, hidden from the world’s eyes.

The rare holiday granted by the military was initially cozy and comfortable in every way. Until one day, for reasons unknown to Wen Xingchen, Lu Jingning, in the early hours, suddenly dragged him out of bed, insisting on playing arm wrestling.

When asked why, Lu Jingning looked at him earnestly. “You might not believe it, but I had a dream yesterday!”

The glint in Wen Xingchen’s eyes shimmered subtly. “A dream about us arm wrestling?”

Lu Jingning exclaimed, “How did you know???!”

Wen Xingchen, observing his bewildered expression, smiled slightly. “Funny enough, I had the same dream.”

Perhaps, it wasn’t a coincidence after all.

Chapter 92 – Originally, it wasn't significant

Chapter 92 – Originally, it wasn’t significant

Jian Luo looked at Lu Shifeng, his gaze and expression thirsting for knowledge.

Lu Shifeng held him close, and due to the significant difference in their physiques, Jian Luo appeared very much like a small quail. He was petite, with especially innocent, teary eyes that were quite beautiful.

He remembered how these eyes looked when they cried. The eye rims turned red, and his voice became weak, resembling a struggling bunny on the brink of death.

As the two locked eyes, Jian Luo also sensed that something was amiss. He hesitated and said, “Well, I’ve thought it over, perhaps I should have the nutrient solution.”

Lu Shifeng’s crimson eyes darkened, and he asked, “You don’t find it hard to swallow?”

Jian Luo quickly responded, “Of course not, upon careful consideration, I find the nutrient solution quite good. It was my oversight!”

Lu Shifeng withdrew his gaze and fed him another spoonful of food. “I’ll have someone deliver the nutrient solution to our room later.”

“…,” Jian Luo got off his lap and sighed deeply. He first went back to the room to take a shower, then came out to look at the delivered nutrient solution. This nutrient solution had no taste, but for some reason, every time he drank it, he could sense a hint of a fishy taste that was oddly addictive.

“Can we try to flavor it somehow?” Jian Luo pondered, scratching his head. “Like making flavored milk tea?”

As this idea took root, he suddenly had an epiphany. It seemed that the nutrient solutions available on the market were somewhat monotonous. They were all green and had a uniform, colorless fishy taste, lacking any other flavors.

Were the Darkstar people lacking creativity? Probably not. Was it just because they got used to it?

If they were to introduce flavored ones, would that create an overlooked market? In the entire Darkstar and possibly throughout the entire universe, it seemed like this market was rather untapped.

Jian Luo fell into contemplation while looking at the nutrient solution.

He opened his personal information interface and began to search for various styles and flavors of nutrient solutions. Compared to his old, slow interface, this temporary one seemed to be turbocharged.

In no time, the search results were displayed.

The AI interface said, “In the universe, the majority of nutrient solution manufacturing and distribution rights are concentrated in the Phoenix Research Institute and the Moonlight Group of Pixius. The sales and transportation of nutrient solutions are handled by the highest security level Dragon Clan Fleet.”

Jian Luo said, “…”

He never expected the Darkstar people to monopolize the nutrient solution business across the entire universe.

How much money did the Darkstar have, exactly?

Jian Luo continued his search, asking, “What about styles?”

The AI initiated a quick search and finally displayed, “Currently, there is only one uniform style available. Nutrient solutions have patents, and unless the Phoenix Research Institute introduces new products, they cannot be sold elsewhere.”

So, that was the case!

Jian Luo finally understood the logic and necessity behind this. His thoughts began to diverge, and the key point of his question lay in why the research institute didn’t introduce flavors. Was it a lack of ideas or simply a lack of motivation?

Ding!

The door to the room opened as someone entered. Lu Shifeng stood at the entrance, observing Jian Luo lost in thought. The Grand Marshal finally spoke, “What are you thinking?”

Jian Luo shivered, narrowly saving the nutrient solution from spilling. He replied, “I was thinking if I could adjust the flavor of the nutrient solution on my own. That way, I might enjoy drinking it more.”

But didn’t this thing have a patent? Jian Luo wasn’t sure if he should inquire with his teacher. Asking wasn’t a problem, but he dreaded the prospect of being scrutinized and corrected by Zhan Wen Tai.

Lu Shifeng walked over and asked, “What flavor are you planning to adjust it to?”

Jian Luo decisively replied, “How about we adjust it to Red Holy Dragon Fruit Milk Tea? That way, drinking a glass would be equivalent to consuming a Red Holy Dragon Fruit, and we finish the nutrient solution.”

Lu Shifeng gave him a sidelong glance.

Jian Luo smiled, lips rosy and teeth white, and asked, “What do you think?”

Lu Shifeng took the nutrient solution and examined it. “I’ll have a doctor come to discuss this.”

“…,” Jian Luo had to admit this matter required caution, as mixing certain substances could lead to food poisoning.

In the end, he knew he would have to drink the nutrient solution today. With a grimace, Jian Luo pinched his nose and swiftly downed the nutrient solution.

Lu Shifeng furrowed his brows and said, “Slow down, no one’s going to take it from you.”

Jian Luo, wanting to get it over with, said, “If I throw up, it’s not my fault.”

Lu Shifeng casually picked up a parenting book to read, seemingly unconcerned.

As he waited in silence for a while, Jian Luo was surprised to find that he didn’t feel nauseated. It was as if his stomach had just processed a bottle of plain water.

Jian Luo stared in amazement at Lu Shifeng.

Lu Shifeng, as if understanding his astonishment, calmly explained, “The research department found that humans have an adverse reaction to the nutrient solution. After working day and night for two months, they adjusted the nutrient solution’s composition to better suit the human body, making it easier for the body to absorb.”

“…Really?” Jian Luo was speechless.

On one hand, he wanted to complain about how the majority of humans weren’t suitable for the nutrient solution, and the Darkstar people had never bothered to adjust it. Today, thanks to him, this type of nutrient solution might be available in the market. Even the people in the Paradise could enjoy easily digestible nutrient solutions.

Finally, after hesitating for a while, Jian Luo could only say, “Please thank the Research Institute for me.”

“No need for thanks,” Lu Shifeng replied calmly. “It’s also a hope for the whole world, and everyone should be grateful.”

“How should I respond? I actually feel somewhat honored,” Jian Luo thought as he put the nutrient solution aside, preparing to take a nap to calm his nerves. However, just as he was about to get up, he felt a tingling sensation in his legs, a painful, electrifying sensation that was oddly seductive.

“Ah…” Jian Luo couldn’t bear it and sat back down.

Lu Shifeng, beside him, had a change in his expression. “What’s wrong?”

It was precisely because the human body was so fragile that there were always unexpected situations. Lu Shifeng’s expression mirrored Jian Luo’s anxiety.

Jian Luo turned pale and took a deep breath, gritting his teeth. “It feels like my leg is cramping…”

Lu Shifeng held his arm. “Let me take a look.”

The Grand Marshal bent down slightly to examine the leg that had cramped up, and he almost immediately identified the issue. He told Jian Luo, “Relax, don’t tense up.”

Jian Luo winced, feeling the pain. “It hurts…”

“Is it painful here?” Lu Shifeng pinched the cramping area gently. “How about this pressure?”

Jian Luo cried out in pain, trying to pull away. “You’re touching it; I can handle it on my own.”

Lu Shifeng furrowed his brows and seemed to spot a key point. “You’ve had cramps before, right?”

Jian Luo choked up for a moment, and then he answered with some composure, “Well, when I was all alone and couldn’t see anyone every day, what could I do? I had to endure it.”

Lu Shifeng’s expression turned cold.

Jian Luo sensed that he might have said the wrong thing, so he pursed his lips and tried to alleviate the situation. “No, it doesn’t matter. You don’t need to bother about it.”

Lu Shifeng grabbed him again and said in a low voice, “I’m not blaming you.”

Jian Luo looked at him with surprise.

He never expected Lu Shifeng to explain himself with such restraint.

Lu Shifeng tried to control his strength as he massaged Jian Luo’s cramping leg. A man’s fingers, each movement, was the kind that could crash the Jinjiang Live Broadcast Network with a single appearance on screen. And right now, these Imperial fingers were massaging his leg.

The scene was somewhat dreamlike.

Mysteriously, the little bit of resentment in Jian Luo dissipated. He pursed his lips and said, “It wasn’t my fault to begin with.”

Lu Shifeng glanced at Jian Luo’s smug expression and a faint smile curved on his lips.

Jian Luo sensed the relief and felt that the pain had subsided. He said, “You’re amazing. I couldn’t relieve it myself earlier.”

Lu Shifeng withdrew his hand and replied, “After enduring many injuries, you become familiar with muscle and joint issues.”

“…,” Jian Luo couldn’t help but admire the resilience of the big guy.

Jian Luo had no words to comment on the world of the elites. He moved his legs to test if they felt better and heard Lu Shifeng say, “This is the first time I’ve taken care of someone and also the first time I’ve interacted with a human. I lack experience.”

Jian Luo turned around.

Lu Shifeng continued, “I can’t fully comprehend human pain.”

He sat on the couch, leaning against the cushion, his posture relaxed but his words firm. “Jian Luo, I hope that if you’re in pain, you’ll tell me promptly.”

Jian Luo sat down and suddenly felt a bit uncomfortable. He had grown used to Lu Shifeng being strong and reliable all the time, and now, suddenly, they were discussing matters on more equal terms. It felt strange.

Jian Luo scratched his head. “It’s not that painful, just a minor ache. It’s not worth mentioning, and I’m not a child, not so delicate.”

Lu Shifeng extended his long arm to adjust Jian Luo’s collar. “You can be delicate.”

“Uh?” Jian Luo was taken aback.

Lu Shifeng’s voice was deep and magnetic, exuding a calming aura, like a towering mountain that could shield from any storm. “You’re still young, and you can be delicate.”

“…,” Jian Luo had to admit he was indeed.

With a quick “whoosh,” Jian Luo jumped up and changed the subject, “I’ll go to bed now!”

He took a few steps to the bed, lifted the covers, and got under them. He buried his face in the pillow, not wanting anyone to see his face and dreading that Lu Shifeng might notice any irregular heartbeats.

What a dilemma.

Why couldn’t the Grand Marshal just maintain his high and aloof demeanor? If he turned so gentle, who could resist?

It was all because he was carrying a baby; that’s why he was so gentle. If anyone else had come today, they would have heard this statement, right? After all, Jian Luo encountered Lu Shifeng during his heat period.

The greatest tragedy in life is experiencing the sunshine and then being thrust back into darkness.

The next day.

Today was the day the warship was expected to land. After traveling through space for so long, Jian Luo had experienced many ups and downs.

His secretary said, “This time, we’ll first go to an industrial empire to sign a cooperation agreement. This industrial empire is very safe, and we can go out and explore when we arrive.”

Jian Luo was looking at travel guides on the star network. “This place seems overly commercial.”

The buildings were all cold and lifeless, exuding an overwhelming sense of indifference, even the greenery and landscaping were sparse. The place looked quite oppressive, and it was hard to see how anyone could have fun and be happy here.

The secretary continued, “That’s right, this place has the most advanced industrial street, and many major industrial orders are produced on this planet. Its strength is not to be underestimated.”

Jian Luo was about to say, “What does the industrial street have to do with me…” but stopped in the middle of his sentence.

After careful consideration, he realized that this had a significant connection. Solving these two problems in this small blue planet was crucial for Earth’s protection and safety. If these issues were resolved promptly, everything would be a lot easier.

Jian Luo looked at his secretary gratefully. “You’re right!”

The secretary smiled. “Let’s go.”

She didn’t mention the price of the clothes; he probably wouldn’t buy them anyway.

The warship finally landed.

They arrived at the industrial empire’s capital shipyard. The weather was nice today, with clear skies and not a cloud in sight. As they disembarked from the warship and looked up, they could see the azure sky, a sight that brought great joy.

The leader of the industrial empire, the Head of State, dressed in a black suit, warmly approached them. “Welcome, Grand Marshal, to our capital planet.”

Lu Shifeng shook hands briefly with the leader. The leader glanced at Jian Luo and asked, “Who is this?”

Jian Luo began to rack his brain, trying to remember his title and position. Then, Lu Shifeng said, “My aide.”

The leader hesitated for a moment before saying, “Oh, I see! A truly outstanding individual!”

The people behind them felt like they had just witnessed a crow flying over their heads, speechless. After all, in the towering and mighty Dark Star military, Jian Luo, who appeared as thin as a weakling, naturally stood out, and describing him as “outstanding” was a bit of a stretch. But the leader was quite skilled at praising.

Jian Luo put on a thick-skinned smile. “You’re too kind.”

The leader smiled and waved it off, “Not at all.”

After a brief exchange of pleasantries, they moved on to the formal work process. Lu Shifeng was headed for a meeting, and the others were assigned to their accommodations.

Jian Luo’s secretary told him, “You don’t have to worry about where you’re assigned; you can stay with the Grand Marshal.”

Jian Luo nodded. “Alright.”

After the meeting, it was time for the evening banquet. Lu Shifeng had Jian Luo sit beside him and said, “If you’re not used to the food here, you don’t have to eat.”

Jian Luo nodded. “Thank you.”

Soon, attendants brought in dishes. The food of this industrial empire was as simple as its people. Even the Dark Star people would sometimes barbecue meat and prepare something different to eat, but the cuisine here was even more straightforward. The meat was mostly roasted to be edible, and the vegetables were simply boiled. It could be considered a diet plan.

Lu Shifeng told him, “It’s not as good as back at our place, but we’ll manage.”

Jian Luo sighed and took out a salt packet from his bag. In a low voice, he told Lu Shifeng, “I came prepared.”

Lu Shifeng looked at the salt packet and a chili packet with a hint of amusement in his eyes.

Jian Luo placed a little salt on his meat and then began to eat.

A meek voice came from the neighboring table. “May I ask what powder you’re sprinkling?”

Jian Luo was taken aback and looked up to find a delicate-looking woman seated at the high table. She was very fragile, with fair skin and a gentle appearance, seemingly more delicate than Jian Luo, a human.

Before he could say anything, Lu Shifeng spoke up, “A condiment carried by our adjutant. He hasn’t been feeling well lately, so please excuse him.”

The woman smiled faintly. “I just thought it looked interesting. Can I try it?”

Jian Luo first looked at Lu Shifeng.

The Grand Marshal didn’t appear displeased and nodded gently. “You can.”

Jian Luo stood up, placed the salt packet on the attendant’s tray, and had it sent up.

Because this banquet was significant, many important figures from the industrial empire attended. People began to discuss quietly when they saw the scene:

“Is this aide a human?”

“It seems so.”

“Not a member of the Dragon Clan?”

“I heard humans are quite frail. I wonder what he’s capable of.”

People whispered in hushed tones and discreetly looked at the high table, wondering what this powder was for.

The princess, who had asked about the powder, tried the same method with her meat as Jian Luo had. After it had marinated for a while, she took a bite and paused for a moment. Then her eyes brightened. “Mmm…”

The leader was very fond of his wife, and he said in a gentle tone, “Be careful if your body isn’t well, take your time eating.”

The other ministers were used to it.

The princess swallowed her meat and said, “It’s very tasty.”

The leader was a bit surprised. He knew his wife well; due to her health issues, she was very selective about food, and most regular dishes failed to meet her standards. They had never considered collaborating with the Dark Star people on food before, for a couple of reasons. First, Dark Star people were known as the originators of nutrient fluids, and second, they had no special talent for cooking because their food was similar to their own.

The leader’s eyes lit up. “Not bad.”

The other ministers below looked at these two individuals, equally baffled. After all, it was just meat, but what difference could sprinkling some powder make?

The princess looked at Lu Shifeng and praised, “Mr. Lu, your aide’s seasoning is truly excellent!”

Lu Shifeng remained modest. “You’re too kind.”

Even though he said that, you could see the satisfaction on the Grand Marshal’s face.

The princess sitting in front, who had previously been coughing, suddenly choked and started coughing again after taking a sip of water. She was trembling while coughing and seemed to be struggling, given her frail condition, which made it appear quite serious.

Other ministers expressed concern:

“Is the princess all right?”

“Your Highness, please take care of your health.”

“Yes, indeed.”

The leader patted the princess on the back. “Are you okay? Should we go back?”

The princess wiped her eyes, which were a little teary from the coughing fit, and forced a smile. “I’m fine today, especially after eating such delicious meat. I’d like to stay a bit longer.”

The leader glanced appreciatively at Jian Luo.

As Jian Luo enjoyed his meat, he felt a bit bewildered by the joy he had brought simply by contributing a salt packet.

The princess turned to Jian Luo and said, “May I take the liberty to ask if your condiment is still available, Mr. Aide?”

Jian Luo replied, “Of course, I’ll bring some for you when I return.”

The princess expressed her gratitude. “Thank you very much.”

Having nearly finished their meal, Jian Luo decided it was time to investigate further. Based on his observations, he believed the princess might be suffering from asthma, but he needed confirmation.

During his time on the warship, he had read numerous medical books and had realized that life forms in the universe shared many similarities. Diagnosing a human’s health wasn’t so different.

With this in mind, he asked, “May I inquire, Your Highness, do you have a history of respiratory ailments?”

This question was not considered impolite.

The princess smiled gently and replied softly, “It’s an old ailment, not a major illness, just something I’ve had for a long time.”

Jian Luo frowned. “Is it treatable?”

“It’s congenital,” the princess replied in a gentle tone. She wiped her mouth and continued, “We’ve attempted surgery, but my body is fragile, and I can’t take many medicines. So, it cannot be completely cured.”

It seemed like it.

Jian Luo, who found the princess rather amiable, said, “I have some herbal remedies from my side. If you don’t mind, you can try them.”

Chinese herbs were mild and could provide nourishment. He would contact the senior Chinese physician in Paradise later and have them formulate the prescription, tailored to the princess’s condition. With his guidance, it should work well.

The princess appeared surprised and delighted. “Mr. Aide, you have a solution?”

Jian Luo was modest. “It may not necessarily help, but you can give it a try.”

Although he was being humble, the ministers in the audience had their own thoughts. Unlike the princess, who came from humble beginnings, the nobility had their own standards. Allowing a human to provide medical treatment for the princess, especially considering the low status of humans on Dark Star, made them question whether this human had any formal education and if he was qualified to diagnose and treat the princess.

Given the circumstances, someone stood up and said, “Mr. Aide, you are a talented young individual, and we admire your abilities. May I ask where you received your education? Which academy did you graduate from?”

The most prestigious educational institution on Dark Star was the Phoenix Pavilion, which was exclusively for pure-blood nobles. It was impossible for a human to enter it. As for other universities, did they even want to mention those?

Chapter 128 – Who Says Omegas Can’t be as Explosive as Alphas

Chapter 128: Unraveling Together (1)

Regardless of willingness, everyone gradually grew accustomed to days filled with raging battles.

When peace shattered seemed insignificant now. Their sole concern was when these days would come to a definitive end.

Unbeknownst to them, three years had already passed.

At this moment, Wen Xingchen sat in the command cabin, his brow furrowed tightly.

His warship sped through the interstellar space, its journey traced back from the distant third galaxy, as indicated by the navigation records.

Two years prior, after a selection process by the Alliance forces, a few elite squads were reorganized and placed into a new unit.

Both Wen Xingchen and Lu Jingning were part of it.

Presently, both held the rank of admiral, a rapid promotion within their peers.

Although they commanded their own fleets, their strategic synergy often led the high command to favor their joint operations.

Over time, whenever their red and blue fleets appeared simultaneously, it instilled fear in the insectoid race.

Their formidable joint achievements, coupled with a widely known special bond, led the troops to secretly dub them “Dual Generals of the Imperial Seas.”

It was rare to retain the military academy’s name after graduation, but what others didn’t know was that Lu Jingning himself coined this title, simply because he liked it!

He remained as unreasonable as ever.

In the normal course, the script of two united husbands thriving together should continue. However, just a month ago, Wen Xingchen received an urgent mission, swiftly dispatched to provide support in the battlefield of the third galaxy. It was pressing.

Because Lu Jingning’s task at that time wasn’t as daunting as before, Wen Xingchen decisively set off.

Even before departure, considering someone’s penchant for mischief, he specifically admonished not to impulsively take risks.

Yet, things went awry in the end.

The communication seeking Wen Xingchen’s attention came from Cen Junfeng, currently serving as Lu Jingning’s deputy. Across billions of light-years, his wails echoed, “Admiral, come back!! Our commander vanished again!”

Days later, recalling the heartbreaking and tear-inducing scene, Wen Xingchen’s previously furrowed brow tightened even more.

Vanished again?!

The use of “again” was a bit too vivid.

Yes, the commander-in-chief Lu Jingning, while encircling the insectoids, just like his past, suddenly disappeared!

As described by Cen Junfeng, they successfully cornered all remnants of the insectoids in the northern region of that desolate star.

However, these resilient insectoids, combined with unfavorable terrain, inadvertently led to a standoff with no progress.

Lu Jingning had sat on the front lines for days, counting time, but eventually couldn’t wait any longer. He casually slung an energy gun over his shoulder and leaped alone into the bottomless ravine.

His audacity remained unchanged, but the magnetic field in the lower region severed all contact with the rear forces in minutes.

As Cen Junfeng reported, teary and sniffling, he attempted reassurance, “The commander has been increasingly formidable lately. He should be fine. We’ve sent several waves down, no news yet, and we’re quite anxious. That’s why I thought to inform you.”

Each sentence seemed casually thrown but precisely hit the mark, implying that Wen Xingchen alone held the authority to determine if they’d rush back.

However,

Lu Jingning vanished without a trace. Could he really not return?!

Years of combat hardened Wen Xingchen’s mind, making him even more composed. Yet, at this moment, he couldn’t help but clench his teeth in frustration.

Fine, he’s gone, so he’ll gallivant as he pleases? Just wait, when I return, I’ll see how to handle him!

The oppressive atmosphere in the command cabin kept the crew in breathless silence. Even under full-speed return in semi-automatic mode, requiring minimal operations, they trembled more than when facing the insectoids on the battlefield.

Everyone felt a cold sweat trickle down their backs, refraining from a single breath, afraid to displease this grim reaper, fearing they’d incur his wrath.

Wen Xingchen, lips tightly pursed, inquired, “How far are we?”

The navigator quickly checked the current route and respectfully replied, “Reporting, sir, at our current speed, we’ll reach the destination within a day at most!”

“Understood.”

Wen Xingchen responded expressionlessly, his eyes deep and inscrutable.

Just returning from the battlefield, his clothes faintly dusted, the three-star medal on his shoulder stood out, emitting an unusual shimmer.

Though he calmly gazed ahead, the formidable aura of an Alpha firmly gripped every corner of the fleet, unequivocally exposing his current extremely unpleasant mood.

The crew couldn’t help but lament; if Lu Jingning were present, they’d gladly kneel and call him ‘father’ if it could calm their commander’s fiery temper.

They truly couldn’t bear the wrath of this superior!!!

Meanwhile, the very savior whom everyone inwardly summoned remained utterly unaware of their thoughts.

In the ravine, faint starlight trickled in, illuminating his dazzling golden hair. Except for the scattered corpses around him, any perspective should’ve depicted an incredibly appealing scene.

Lu Jingning’s rare metal rod was smeared with viscous insectoid blood. He casually moved the obstructive bodies aside, glanced into the distance, and proceeded, flexing his muscles as he walked.

The terrain of this wretched planet was excessively treacherous, with countless ravines, compounded by the insectoids’ knack for burrowing. Defending here meant it would be challenging to conquer in a short time unless the entire planet was obliterated.

But he was running out of time.

So, he took matters into his own hands to clean up the remnants.

The terminal lost all function under the magnetic influence, leaving Lu Jingning unaware of how many days had passed.

To avoid missing the special day, he had to hasten as much as possible.

By his reckoning from when he jumped down, their wedding anniversary would arrive in about half a month.

By then, Wen Xingchen should also be back.

The war seemed never-ending, but he didn’t want these annoying bugs to interfere with such a memorable day.

Of course, the sooner he resolved matters here, the sooner they could return to the base and enjoy their private time.

The more Lu Jingning thought about it, the more beautiful the prospect seemed, and before he knew it, a smile curved his eyes.

Noticing faint sounds around him, a sharpness flashed in his eyes, and he stealthily quickened his pace.

Seems like another group of prey delivered to his doorstep.

Little darlings, don’t run away; your Lord Lu is here!

Chapter 127 – Who Says Omegas Can’t be as Explosive as Alphas

Chapter 127: Cycle of a Hundred Years (3)

The historic first battle ended with the insect race fleeing in disarray.

But evidently, that wasn’t the focal point.

For a destined lengthy racial war like this, the opening move isn’t crucial. As long as one perseveres, the tide can turn against adversity at any moment. The most crucial aspect remains: who will have the last laugh.

The only fortunate aspect is that both the Empire and the Federation were adequately prepared for this war.

Despite some turmoil among the populace, such unrest didn’t persist for long. It was swiftly pacified by the decisive methods of those in power.

With the battle already underway, life had to continue as usual. It’s just that perhaps now there’s a bit more anxiety lingering in the air.

However, the most significant impact was on the military personnel.

Unlike the prolonged era of peace, once war commences, it’s inevitable that they face the stark reality of sacrificing themselves on the battlefield.

It might sound stirring enough to evoke enthusiasm, but when comrades’ cold bodies lay before them, reality poured like a bucket of cold water, waking everyone up thoroughly.

Cruelty, that’s the essence of war.

To uphold the rousing heroism depicted in history books, first and foremost, one needs to survive.

Among the military, those in the medical departments undoubtedly comprehend life and death most profoundly.

Regardless of whether it’s the Empire or the Federation, once the alliance front forms, the medical elites, who used to reside in laboratories day in and day out, volunteered eagerly to provide medical support at the frontline.

Here, this is one among numerous medical stations.

If one were to cast their gaze down from the sky, they’d witness stretchers strewn around the camp, densely packed, enough to astonish anyone.

The number of soldiers injured in the war was far too many for the medical station to accommodate, hence they were reluctantly treated outdoors.

Even so, those fortunate enough to be brought back for treatment were considered favored by Lady Luck.

Within Room 3 of Section B, the air was thick with the smell of strong disinfectants.

A slender figure sat by the sickbed, rolling up blood-stained sleeves, revealing a rather ghastly wound on the arm.

Although the bleeding had been stopped, as the disinfectant swab lightly grazed over it with forceps, Yan Hebin couldn’t help but furrow his brow slightly due to the stinging sensation.

Su Qian’s actions were already at their gentlest. Observing his patient’s endurance, he calmly remarked, “Just focus on your duty; there’s no need to play the hero. Feeling pain now?”

Though the doctor’s words sounded like advice to a patient, in this environment, they carried a different undertone.

Yan Hebin glanced at him instinctively. “I can’t just stand by and watch someone die.”

Su Qian continued cleaning the wound, then turned to retrieve a roll of bandage from the cabinet. After a slight pause, he spoke again, “Being too soft-hearted isn’t beneficial for a soldier.”

There was no sense of reproach in his words, yet Yan Hebin lowered his eyelids, silent.

A profound silence enveloped the room.

It wasn’t until Su Qian cut the final piece of bandage that he sighed softly, “I hope I never see you among those people one day.”

Of course, Yan Hebin knew whom “those people” referred to.

Lately, almost every day, transport ships arrived carrying soldiers who died in battle. Some were claimed for their hometowns, but many were laid to rest right here on this desolate, uninhabited nameless planet, where nobody even knew their names.

Su Qian didn’t dwell further on this heavy topic. Suddenly, he pulled out an exquisite box and handed it over, a faint smile playing on his lips. “Like it?”

Yan Hebin looked at him puzzled, reaching out to receive it. Upon opening it, he discovered an exquisite pendant shaped like a water droplet.

A flicker of surprise flashed in his eyes, an unusual expression for him.

Obviously, the appearance of this gift had genuinely caught him off guard.

Su Qian noticed the change in his demeanor; the smile in his eyes softened. “Timing isn’t great, what with the war just beginning. Otherwise, I would have prepared a more decent birthday present for you.”

Yan Hebin shook his head sincerely. “Thank you, I really like it.”

On this historic day, each of them seemed incredibly insignificant. If not for Su Qian, who would remember the birthday of such an inconspicuous ordinary soldier as Yan Hebin?

The material of the pendant remained a mystery. Inside, there seemed to be a liquid-like substance flowing. Occasionally, when a ray of light touched it, one could witness a faintly dazzling color circulating, exquisite yet unique. Obviously, it was meticulously chosen.

Yan Hebin softened and reached out to take it, but any movement pulled at the wound on his arm, instinctively causing a slight frown.

“Let me do it.” Su Qian smiled, taking out the pendant from the box and delicately placing it around Yan Hebin’s neck.

The doctor’s fingers, accustomed to holding surgical tools, were slender and well-shaped, bearing a thin callus layer at the tips. When they grazed against the skin, there was a distinct sensation.

This touch, fleeting by the gland, sent a momentary surge akin to an electric current, causing Yan Hebin, who usually faced enemy forces fearlessly, to unconsciously straighten his back.

He involuntarily lowered his head slightly, hiding the somewhat heated cheeks from view.

At this moment, Yan Hebin was thankful that Su Qian was a Beta, unable to sense the faint Omega pheromones floating in the room. Otherwise, he would have wanted to dig a hole and bury himself from this unexpectedly tantalizing sensation.

From their acquaintance until now, they still lingered in a shallow ambiguity. Both tacitly avoided tearing down that final barrier.

Yan Hebin knew it was his issue.

His father’s disappearance remained a thorn in his heart, urging him to climb higher while subconsciously wanting to distance himself from any distracting emotional ties.

But, at this very moment, he encountered Su Qian, causing an unwanted disturbance within him.

“How is it? Does it look good?”

The man’s gentle voice brought him back to reality.

As Yan Hebin regained focus, he looked up to find Su Qian, who had somehow produced a mirror and placed it in front of him. The pendant hung on his chest, and behind him, the man’s gaze through the mirror rested upon him, brimming with a gentle smile.

Su Qian’s smile was always so gentle and comforting, allowing Yan Hebin to miraculously calm down in his presence.

His gaze didn’t land on the pendant but instead inadvertently fixed on Su Qian’s face. They gazed at each other through the mirror, then saw their own reflections in each other’s eyes.

Su Qian noticed his distraction and couldn’t help but ask with a smile, “What’s wrong?”

Yan Hebin stared at him for a long time, finally breaking the silence as if determined, “After this war ends, would you mind giving me another gift?”

This manner of demanding a gift was clearly not his style; it suited Lu Jingning more. However, Su Qian merely paused for a moment, then agreeably responded, “Of course, what would you like?”

Yan Hebin’s lips tightened slightly, he put away the mirror and turned, saying, “This time, I don’t want a pendant. I want something to wear on my finger.”

Engagement or marriage, as long as they could be bound firmly together, anything would suffice.

He wasn’t accustomed to such audacious behavior as Lu Jingning. After saying this, his face flushed intensely, but he struggled to maintain an expressionless demeanor.

After a while, Su Qian grasped the implication behind these words. Suppressing a smile at the overly conspicuous flush on the man’s ears, he softly replied, “Alright, then I’ll also give myself to you at that time.”

As these words brushed past his burning ears, Yan Hebin finally couldn’t hold back, lowered his head to evade the watery gaze, and stood up from the bedside, “I’ll return to my unit first.”

Watching that figure dart out like a flash, Su Qian couldn’t help but chuckle softly.

Though he had waited for this day for a long time, in such wartime circumstances, this seemed to be the best news he could receive.
