Chapter 8 – It's hard to escape from the Omegaverse trope!

Chapter 8

Qu Di finally met the legendary Emperor of Vision.

The Emperor’s name was Shu Yi. Unlike Tang Xiyan, he was a professionally trained actor with handsome looks and outstanding acting skills. He was the only actor in the country who had won the Golden Plum Vision Emperor award twice and the Ice Lotus award once, the highest honors for actors in the country.

When Qu Di was working on his graduation project, the character of the Alpha male lead was somewhat inspired by Shu Yi’s image. Shu Yi had always been an actor he admired for his calmness and even once took six months to travel the world to experience life when he couldn’t find a good project.

Although his exposure was not as high as some new actors or popular stars, once his name was mentioned, very few people were unfamiliar with it.

“Hello, I’m Shu Yi.”

His voice was deep and gentle, exuding a lazy and approachable vibe. Even in the most ordinary white shirt, he seemed like an English gentleman sipping tea in his garden on a sunny afternoon. His straight nose and slightly upturned lips made everyone’s eyes stick to him.

But as a life assistant, Qu Di clearly didn’t have the qualifications to talk to the Emperor of Vision. He could only watch from a distance, and at most, stand by when his artist and Shu Yi talked, stealing a few glances. Perhaps Shu Yi hadn’t even noticed him.

“Hello, I’m Xiyan.” Outside, Tang Xiyan always went by Xiyan.

“I’ve heard your song. That ‘Chuyang’ is very nice; I like it.”

“Thank you, but I haven’t really watched the TV shows you’ve acted in. I’m sorry.”

Hearing this, Qu Di came to his senses. Hadn’t Tang Xiyan learned how to speak politely? He seemed oblivious, and that phrase from Qiu Wenhuan came to mind, which he had forgotten today.

He guessed Shu Yi might be angry now. How would he explain this to Fei Ge? He hadn’t even joined the cast yet, and he had already offended the male lead of the same show during a photo shoot.

But to his surprise, Shu Yi not only didn’t mind, but he even smiled, saying, “You’re interesting. I rarely meet someone as candid as you.” He had heard enough of the usual pleasantries in this industry, so hearing some genuine words for a change was quite interesting.

“Shu Yi, come change your clothes!”

“My manager called me. I’ll go first; we can chat later.”

Once Shu Yi left, Qu Di pulled Tang Xiyan aside, saying, “You shouldn’t have said that just now.”

Tang Xiyan, however, didn’t care at all. “So what if I haven’t watched? What would I do if I said I had and he asked me which character I liked?”

“Really? You haven’t watched it? His TV shows are so popular.” Qu Di thought Tang Xiyan was deliberately causing trouble. In this day and age, how could anyone not have seen Shu Yi’s TV shows? But then he realized something was not quite right. “But, don’t you need to get to know your fellow cast members before joining the production?”

“Fei Ge briefed me. I’ve been busy and didn’t have time to watch.”

“…” It was a miracle that this person had survived in this industry for so long. Qu Di felt like he had found more evidence about him and Tang Xiyan…

He reminded him, “Please be careful about what you say later. Fortunately, it’s just you and Shu Yi who came today; others had their photos taken yesterday. When you go back, make sure to thoroughly review the material. We don’t want any unexpected news.”

“I got it, I got it. I’ll go get my makeup done, and you can get me a sandwich.” He had shown off to the reporters outside the studio earlier, and now he was starving.

The studio was somewhat remote, and it took him ten minutes to find a coffee shop. He bought a few small cakes and coffee because the director and screenwriter were present today, and he wanted to win their favor.

Back in the studio, Qu Di finally felt alive. After the light rain that day, the sun had been shining brightly, and there was a pervasive heat everywhere. Even the reporters and fans outside, who had been squatting, were barely moving and huddled in the shade.

He placed the peach cakes and cappuccino he bought for Tang Xiyan in front of him. This was the first time he had done something like this. Looking around, he realized everyone was busy. How could he naturally and without embarrassment offer these snacks and drinks to them?

He spotted Shu Yi’s assistant, a cool and aloof girl leaning against the wall, waiting for Shu Yi to change. He walked slowly over, attempting to strike up a conversation. “Hello, I’m Xiyan’s life assistant, my name is Qu Di.”

The girl glanced at him and replied, “Hello.”

“…”

Silence fell between the two of them. After a couple of seconds, Qu Di spoke again, “Xiyuan asked me to bring some food for you, but I didn’t know you don’t like sweets.”

“Shu Yi doesn’t like sweet stuff. It makes him gain weight.” She gave him a look as if he were a complete idiot.

Artists are very particular about their physique; Qu Di was aware of that. But wasn’t it okay to indulge occasionally? Seeing that Shu Yi’s assistant had no intention of engaging further, he politely apologized and was about to leave.

But at that moment, Shu Yi walked out, having changed into his costume, an emperor’s robe. He was dressed in a black robe embroidered with a golden dragon with five claws. There were faint traces of auspicious clouds, and underneath was a long robe of the same color with a gold-trimmed water pattern at the collar. A white jade-studded golden dagger hung from his waist, and he wore black dragon-patterned boots.

Perhaps because of the makeup, the previously gentle Shu Yi no longer appeared soft. With his arched eyebrows and resolute gaze, he exuded a hint of recklessness.

“What’s going on? I overheard you talking outside just now,” he said, then noticed Qu Di. “You’re Xiyan’s personal assistant, right? Is there something you need from me?”

Qu Di didn’t expect Shu Yi to recognize him. He smiled politely and said, “It’s nothing, Xiyan asked me to bring you some food, but I didn’t know you don’t like sweets.”

“I didn’t say I don’t like it.” Shu Yi took a couple of steps forward and accepted the items from Qu Di. “It’s just that my manager is strict about my diet. Since it’s your thoughtful gesture, I won’t refuse. Besides, I haven’t had breakfast, so thank you.”

“Ah… You’re welcome.” Shu Yi was quite close, and Qu Di caught a whiff of the subtle minty scent on him. So, that was the scent of his pheromones.

Qu Di discreetly took a step back. “I’ll be heading back now.”

“Hey!” Shu Yi stopped him and asked, “What’s your name?”

Seeing that Qu Di seemed a bit startled, he explained with a smile, “We’ll be working together on the set for several months, so it’s only natural to get to know the actors and the people around them.”

“I… I’m Qu Di, ‘qu’ as in melody, ‘di’ as in flute.”

For a brief moment, Shu Yi’s eyes flashed with an emotion Qu Di couldn’t quite discern. He then introduced himself, “I’m Shu Yi.” He pointed to his assistant and continued, “This is Zheng Siyi, ‘si’ as in thought, ‘yi’ as in loyal.”

Before he could finish, Zheng Siyi interrupted, “It’s ‘si’ as in missing, and ‘yi’ as in loyalty.”

“In the future, if you need any help, you can contact Siyi.”

“Sure, thank you.”

Qu Di returned to Tang Xiyan’s side, still trying to process how impressive Shu Yi was. He had to admit that Shu Yi was a national heartthrob. Not to mention Omega, even as an unaffected beta, Qu Di had been momentarily lost in his presence. He also felt his face heating up and wondered if it was noticeable.

“Where did you go?” Tang Xiyan asked.

“Huh?”

Qu Di had never expected to be so captivated by Shu Yi’s presence. It was surprising to be enchanted by someone he had been working with for almost two weeks.

Seeing his slightly stunned expression, Tang Xiyan straightened his posture, raised his chin, and had a peac0ck-like appearance. “What’s wrong? Are you mesmerized?”

Tang Xiyan played the role of a general who had guarded the borders for eight years, earning respect, but he was also a ruthless character who didn’t flinch from killing. His eyebrows and eyes exuded fierceness, and he wore a black armor suit with a silver lining. He had a black bun on his head, held a spear with a red tassel, and wore black boots with a dragon pattern.

“Not… not bad,” Qu Di mumbled to himself, as long as you don’t make such out-of-character expressions.

Tang Xiyan held on for just a few seconds before sitting down and complaining, “This thing is too heavy, and it’s really hot! Do I have to wear this iron suit for the shoot?”

The passing director overheard this and chuckled, “You’ll only wear this outfit for a few scenes. When you return to the capital, you’ll wear official attire or casual clothes most of the time.”

The director looked at Tang Xiyan’s appearance and was quite satisfied. He had the look of a general heading into battle, full of energy. This outfit wasn’t cheap; it was all handcrafted, and each piece of armor was made of high-quality materials. Besides Shu Yi’s coronation outfit, it was the most expensive costume.

The shooting proceeded smoothly. Qu Di had never expected Tang Xiyan to be so good at portraying this role. Even the photographer said he had a great sense of the camera, and he captured the essence of the character well. As for Shu Yi, he was even faster, finishing his scenes in just half an hour.

When they stepped outside, a wave of heat hit them. Qu Di took out a sun umbrella and opened it. “The nanny car is over there; let’s walk.”

Tang Xiyan put on his sunglasses, took the umbrella from Qu Di, and sipped his iced lemon tea. He nodded, and most of the cakes and drinks that hadn’t been given away had found their way into Tang Xiyan’s stomach. With Fei Ge not around and not wanting to be too pushy in front of outsiders, he had seized the opportunity.

Shu Yi followed them, also wearing sunglasses. His assistant held an umbrella for him. He waved to the fans waiting nearby, displaying his signature smile. However, his eyes behind the sunglasses were fixed on Qu Di’s back.

Qu Di suddenly turned around, and Shu Yi also saw him. He smiled at Qu Di, and the nearby fans erupted in cheers.

“Husband! He’s smiling so sweetly!”

“Ahhhh, I love you, Shu Yi!”

“Shu Yi, look at me! Look at me!”

“Ahhh, I’m dead!”

As for Tang Xiyan’s side, a bunch of fans had gathered too, but seeing the artists cooperate so well with each other, they felt a bit sour. Someone started chanting, “Hey, kid! Look at your mom!”

Then, the crowd began to stir.

“Yanyan! Mom was so worried after reading the news! Are you okay?”

“Kid! Give us a smile, or we’ll worry ourselves to death!”

“Yanyan! Yanyan!”

But Tang Xiyan remembered Fei Ge’s advice and, before getting into the car, bowed to the fans with a blank expression, making it look like he hadn’t completely shaken off the shadow of his past life as a private fan.

“Phew…”

Tang Xiyan took another sip of his drink. “So, how was my acting? Pretty good, right?”

“Um…” Qu Di was busy writing in his notebook.

Tang Xiyan leaned in to see what he was writing. “What are you writing?”

He was taken aback when he saw his menu:

Lunch: Beef spaghetti (crossed out) changed to Vegetable salad (without dressing).

Dinner: Chicken breast salad (crossed out) changed to Whole grain porridge.

Tang Xiyan couldn’t believe that Qu Di was going to ruin his diet for the next few days. He quickly stopped him, “Why!?”

Qu Di looked at the lemon tea in Tang Xiyan’s hand and silently added an extra hour to his workout time for the next day.

Chapter 8 – Immortal becomes a puppet

Chapter 8

It seemed like he had sensed what he was thinking. Slowly, Si Lan transformed his shape within the dark mist.

Si Lan intentionally cast a spell, allowing only Song Guang to see him. In Song Guang’s complex and shocked gaze, he calmly removed the seal on his forehead.

The ordinary cultivator’s seal couldn’t control him at all, and this decaying black mist was terrifying to mortals but meant very little to him, a demon lord who had lived for over a thousand years.

Previously, he had avoided the black mist out of fear that it might attract the attention of Lou Yu.

He didn’t want to stir up too much trouble.

Song Guang struggled, trying to crawl towards Si Lan. His eyes changed from shock to a plea, as if he wanted Si Lan to save him again. However, only cracking sounds were heard from his mouth, the sound of bones breaking.

Si Lan continued to watch him with an expressionless face. If Song Guang hadn’t betrayed him earlier, he might have considered saving him. But now, this man deserved his fate.

“So, it was you.”

Lou Yu’s figure slowly became clear in the pitch-black stone passage. His purple immortal robe was shrouded in black mist, flowing elegantly without any wind, and his gaze was stern and sharp, with a hint of a strange aura.

Upon hearing Lou Yu’s voice, a strange, despairing wail escaped from Song Guang’s throat. He stared fixedly in Si Lan’s direction and tried to crawl closer to him.

Seeing that Si Lan refused to lend a helping hand, Song Guang used his gaze to implore Lou Yu. There was someone else there, and he wanted to use them as a shield in his final moments.

Unfortunately, before he could reach Si Lan, his body was engulfed by the black mist. Initially, his limbs twitched, but they gradually fell still. After the mist dissipated, only a skeleton remained on the ground.

Lou Yuqing cast a cold gaze at the skeleton, which instantly turned to ashes. He then walked slowly, as if he had recalled Song Guang’s gaze just moments ago, and his eyes happened to look in Si Lan’s direction.

Si Lan’s heart leaped into his throat, and he involuntarily held his breath. He had used invisibility magic at the moment and was concealed above the tunnel’s ceiling. He wasn’t sure if Lou Yu, with his current cultivation level, could detect anything.

Fortunately, Lou Yuqing furrowed his brow, concentrated for a moment, but didn’t notice anything unusual. He then proceeded towards the round platform with the mist spirit.

Si Lan, however, fell into silence. He gazed at Lou Yu’s departing figure, his brows furrowed.

The little white dragon in his arms, seeing Lou Yuqing leave, couldn’t help but tug at Si Lan’s collar, urging him to leave quickly.

There were many traps in this tunnel, and they had already raised Lou Yu’s suspicions. If   Lou Yuqing managed to extract any information from the snake spirit, escaping would become difficult.

But at this moment, Si Lan seemed to have lost his spirit, staring blankly and motionless.

The little white dragon had to bite Si Lan’s chest to get his attention. Si Lan snapped out of it, his form turning into a streak of blue light as he left the secret passage.

Once back on the surface, the little white dragon gave Si Lan an annoyed look and flicked his two dragon whiskers.

A procrastinating demon lord.

He couldn’t even understand its hints.

If they were too slow, who knew what might happen.

It couldn’t help but look at Si Lan with a sense of frustration. After observing Si Lan’s expression carefully, it suddenly froze.

Si Lan’s face was frozen, his eyes vacant, and he mechanically moved forward like an emotionless puppet.

The little white dragon felt something was wrong and tugged at Si Lan’s collar.

Si Lan lowered his gaze and looked at the little white dragon, and it noticed a glimmer of moisture in his eyes.

Suddenly, he smiled, but there was no hint of joy in his eyes.

Why did Lou Yuqing, who had always been focused on cultivation, suddenly get married? Why did the compassionate Lou Yuqing turn into an executioner who showed no mercy? And why had Lou Yu, whom he had known for years, always avoided him?

He finally understood now.

It was because Lou Yuqing was dead.

When the fake Lou Yuqing walked up to him, Si Lan realized that Lou Yu’s core was corrupted, his soul had left his body, and his flesh had long been dead.

The current   Lou Yuqing was merely a puppet manipulated by dark magic. His internal organs had been hollowed out, and his scent was masked by a strange fragrance.

But Lou Yuqing was an Immortal at the Tribulation Crossing stage, and there were very few in the Six Realms who could easily take his life…

How could he have died?

Si Lan couldn’t comprehend it.

The grayish-white moonlight spread like a vast, all-encompassing net, piercing through to Si Lan’s core. The bone-chilling cold seeped into his flesh and bones along the lattice, freezing his boiling blood. The intense sorrow felt like a sharp sword deeply embedded in his back.

He stood on the mountaintop, facing the chilly wind, his face pale, eyes bloodshot. He wanted to control himself, but his fingers trembled uncontrollably.

He didn’t know how long he had been standing there, but by the time dawn approached and the crescent moon hung high in the sky.

He remembered that he had first met Lou Yuqing at a similar time.

Back then, because of the failure of his third marriage, he was depressed and withdrawn, finding solace in a secluded cave and sleeping all day.

One day, while he was soundly asleep, the cave suddenly collapsed, burying him under a pile of rubble.

Angrily, he brushed aside the dirt and rubble to reveal his head. He saw a menacing black eagle with spread wings attacking a cultivator on the ground. Each step the eagle took shook the earth, and the cave he had been sleeping in was crushed by the eagle’s talon.

He generally avoided getting involved in matters of other realms, especially when it concerned the mortal realm. But today, this eagle demon had overstepped its bounds, and it was asking for trouble!

He lashed the eagle demon’s back with his whip, causing it to screech in pain. The sharp-beaked eagle suddenly turned towards him and launched an attack. Its enormous wings flapped, stirring up dust in the air.

He refused to be outdone, revealing his own massive phoenix wings, and with a single stroke, he made the old eagle disappear without a trace.

He slowly retracted his wings, transforming back into human form, and descended gracefully in front of the wounded cultivator.

The cultivator was covered in blood, his features barely discernible, and his purple robe was soaked in crimson. However, he still tightly held onto his longsword, even in his near-death state, maintaining a fighting stance.

Si Lan silently sighed in his heart, feeling it was a shame. If this man weren’t a cultivator, he would have taken him to the demon realm.

He took out a medicinal fruit from his storage bag and gave it to the wounded man to eat, then paid him no further attention.

Several days later, the eagle demon came for revenge, using human children as bait to lure Si Lan into a trap. Si Lan was on the verge of death when a purple aura came from the east, slicing through the trap.

He turned around and saw a cultivator in a purple robe and a jade belt descending from the sky.

The cultivator had a handsome face and a cold expression. Though he wasn’t a god, he exuded an aura similar to one.

Si Lan took a glance at the cultivator and deduced that he was the wounded cultivator from that night. So what Xu Yi had said about him being Lou Yu’s savior wasn’t entirely accurate, because   Lou Yuqing had also saved him.

Between the two of them, it didn’t matter who owed whom.

He knew that humans feared and despised the demon race, especially the vengeful cultivators. So, after he and Lou Yuqing had jointly defeated the eagle demon, he had prepared to fight Lou Yuqing again.

However, to his surprise, Lou Yuqing tossed him a spiritual fruit.

The fruit was from the hundred-year-old cypress tree on White Dragon Mountain, capable of extending one’s spiritual power by twenty years.

Si Lan looked at Lou Yuqing with confusion. Lou Yuqing calmly said, “Consider it a repayment for your fruit.”

As he turned to leave, Lou Yuqing added in a calm tone, “Thank you for that night.”

Si Lan held the fruit in his hand for a while, then smiled faintly.

This was the first time he had smiled since his third wife had passed away.

In the following years, whenever he encountered misbehaving demons in the mortal realm, he often crossed paths with this cultivator. They indirectly witnessed the cultivator’s transition from the Golden Core stage to the Tribulation Crossing stage.

Unknowingly, they had become friends.

Even though there were times when Si Lan and the cultivator didn’t see each other for years due to their seclusion in cultivation, their friendship remained strong.

But now,  Lou Yuqing  had suddenly died, in a gruesome and mysterious manner, without a word.

What was even more ironic was that he was supposed to attend Lou Yu’s wedding celebration tomorrow!

Thinking about this, Si Lan couldn’t help but clench his fists and stared fiercely at the massive and bizarre Teng Ying tree in front of him.

It looked like a wild beast, coiled on the Xuanling Mountain, showing off in the night wind. Its appearance seemed like a challenge to Si Lan, telling him that it was responsible for all of this, and he couldn’t escape it.

Si Lan couldn’t resist taking out his Xuanxin whip to discipline the creature, but as he lashed out at Teng Ying, his sleeve was suddenly grabbed.

He turned to see the little white dragon tugging at his clothes with both paws.

Though it didn’t say anything, its crimson eyes were filled with concern. Its two front paws clung to Si Lan’s sleeve, and it shook its head.

The enemy was hidden in the dark, while they were in the light. It wasn’t wise to startle the snake in the grass.

Si Lan’s lips moved, as if he wanted to say something to the little white dragon, but he felt a bitter lump in his throat and couldn’t speak.

He slowly closed his eyes, then opened them again. The raging flames in his eyes had dissipated, replaced by a calm demeanor.

He put away the Xuanxin whip, which coiled around his right arm like a vine, instantly transforming into an embroidery pattern on his clothing.

He embraced the little white dragon and whispered in its ear, taking a deep breath.

He needed to stay calm.

Right now, he had no idea how powerful the person behind all this was, and he didn’t know their intentions. Recklessly making a move now would only worsen the situation.

The cold wind blew, cooling his anger. After calming himself down, he returned to his chamber.

The enchanting snake he had captured yesterday still lay in the corner, looking weak.

Si Lan cast a spell to release the snake and heal its external injuries. “I saw your snake mother today. Go back and tell your people that she’s currently safe.”

With those words, he extinguished the oil lamp and went to sleep.

The snake hesitated for a moment and then, as if realizing something, quickly disappeared from the room.

In the darkness, Si Lan’s back gradually relaxed, as if it could ease some of the discomfort in his heart.

The little white dragon sat by the bed, coiled its tail, and watched silently.

At first, it didn’t know what had happened, but from his reaction, it began to guess what might be going on.

Poor Demon Lord.

His cultivator friend was now just a puppet supported by dark arts.

However, from that puppet, it had faintly sensed a familiar aura, suspecting that the person controlling the puppet was the same one who had disrupted its tribulation.

But why were they now targeting the friend of the Demon Lord? Was it ultimately to draw the attention to the Demon Lord?

Thinking about this, the little white dragon’s golden eyes grew solemn.

It didn’t take long for Si Lan to fall into a deep slumber, but he was awakened by eerie hissing sounds in his dream, with the overwhelming scent of blood filling his nostrils.

He opened his eyes and suddenly found himself in a dark dungeon, surrounded by invisible monsters that pressed against his skin. The intense smell of blood hung in the air, but he couldn’t see anything. All he could hear was the dripping of water, and rhythmic, echoing sounds in his ears.

A shiver ran down his spine, and he hastily turned around, only to see a massive serpent head materialize behind him.

The serpent head had a gaping maw, and it devoured him in one swift motion.

He jolted upright from his nightmare, fear in his eyes. Sweat drenched his hair, and a few strands stuck to his face.

It was just a bad dream.

Could it be that dealing with snakes these past few days had led to such strange nightmares?

He wiped the sweat from his face, took a deep breath, and sat in front of the bronze mirror. However, his mind couldn’t help but wander back to the recent series of events at the Xuanling Sect, making his head spin. He decided to pause for a moment, tidy up his hair, only to discover a row of bite marks on his neck.

These bite marks were in the same place as yesterday’s, but they were of different sizes.

He hadn’t realized that he had been so heartbroken last night, and even the spirits of this Xuanling Mountain didn’t forget to take a bite of him in the middle of the night.

They were truly pushing their luck.

Unable to contain his frustration, Si Lan tapped the table, and the vibration woke up the little white dragon in his bed. The dragon opened its eyes groggily and heard Si Lan’s angry muttering.

“If I find out who bit me, I will definitely squash that little bug.”

The little white dragon: …

It curled its tail, feeling guilty. Last night, it had been afraid for his safety, so it had silently guarded him. But while guarding, it suddenly found him somewhat enticing and couldn’t resist taking a bite.

However, after sating its hunger, it forgot to destroy the “evidence.”

Could it be true, as Yugan said, that its smaller form has made it a bit less intelligent?

Si Lan cast a soul-binding array on himself. If the little critter came to suck his blood again tonight, the array would capture it. He wanted to see which audacious creature dared to sneakily drink his blood.

He had initially wanted to ask the little white dragon if it noticed anything strange last night. But when the dragon met his gaze, it immediately turned its head away and buried it under its body.

Thinking it didn’t want to talk to him, Si Lan didn’t press the matter.

Little did he know that the dragon was feeling guilty.

He reached out to touch the dragon’s spiritual void and realized that it was even less vibrant than it had been during their time at the Seven-Stringed Cave. How could it deteriorate while being taken care of?

“Little one, what have you been up to recently?”

Chapter 68 – Everyone come and vote

Chapter 68 – Everyone come and vote

Jian Luo said to his little brother, “I’ll go out for a moment.”

Jian Sheng thought he needed to go to the lavatory and quickly asked, “Brother, should I accompany you outside?”

“No.” Jian Luo didn’t let him follow and said directly, “I’ll go out for some fresh air on my own, take a breather.”

Jian Sheng nodded only.

Jian Luo stretched lazily and walked out. The architecture of the Dark Star School was rather antique, with uniform milky-white walls and intricately carved glass windows. It had a classical vibe. The corridor was straight, and something similar to wisteria leaves adorning the walls. When you got closer, you could even smell the fragrance of flowers. It was a warm afternoon, and the sunlight was pleasant.

Jian Luo found a secluded spot and sat down.

He thought for a moment. If he tried to find someone individually to vote, it didn’t seem right. The High Priest had taught him about something called “circle of friends” and it was a sort of messaging app with a status sharing feature. So, he decided to post the voting link in his circle of friends’ accounts. Maybe if someone saw it, they would help with the vote. If no one voted, he could then message them one by one. This way, it seemed perfect.

“Where;s the circle of friends app?” Jian Luo muttered to himself.

He opened his information terminal. As an outdated person in terms of technology, using the Obsidian Information Terminal felt like an old lady using a smartphone. After searching for a while, he finally found the place to post in the circle of friends, feeling quite pleased.

After copying and pasting the link, Jian Luo started typing: “Please kindly vote for my little brother~!”

After typing, he checked the text. Jian Luo thought for a moment and added: “[Help to vote and you could win a free meal!]”

This time, Jian Luo was satisfied. He clicked send and sent the message.

After sending, he waited for a while, but no one voted. Feeling a bit lonely, Jian Luo refreshed the page, but still, there were no votes.

Jian Luo pursed his lips. “Is it possible…?”

There was no activity in his circle of friends. He could only console himself and wait patiently. He put away the information terminal and was about to get up and leave when his phone received a call from Lu Shifeng.

Jian Luo unconsciously curved his lips, a smile building up in his eyes, and he answered, “Hello?”

Lu Shifeng’s voice came from the other end, “Need more votes?”

“Huh?” Jian Luo didn’t expect to be asked this. He stammered, “What’s up with that? I just casually posted a vote request. You don’t have to take it too seriously.”

Lu Shifeng said, “I saw it in your circle of friends.”

Jian Luo nodded and said, “Yeah, just wanted to see if anyone would vote for my little brother. Their school is having this voting activity, and kids need votes to participate in the sports festival. Did you have this kind of activity back in school?”

Thinking that the Marshal probably went to school too, he should be familiar with such activities. However, Lu Shifeng said, “No.”

Jian Luo was stunned, “Huh?”

“When I was in school, they came to invite me to participate,” Lu Shifeng said in a calm tone. “I’ve never heard of voting.”

“…”

Hardcore.

Talking to you big shots always leads to dead-end conversations.

Jian Luo cleared his throat, suppressing the disappointment in his heart and muttered, “Anyway, that’s how it is. Since you saw it…”

As they say, when you have no shame, you can take on the world.

Jian Luo, with a thick skin, said, “Then, can you help vote too?”

Whether he was mistaken or not, it seemed like Lu Shifeng chuckled and replied, “Sure, I’ve voted.”

Jian Luo was satisfied and felt a bit happier. “Thank you. When I get back, I’ll treat you to a meal.”

Lu Shifeng paused for a moment, and the Marshal, dominated by familiarity and fear, unconsciously furrowed his brows. “You’re not coming back tonight?”

Jian Luo nodded, “Yeah, my little brother’s school has a parent-teacher meeting today, and he’ll have a break afterward. I’m going home for a couple of days.”

Marshal Lu narrowed his eyes, tapped his fingertips on the table, and pondered for a while. He finally made up his mind and nodded, “Alright, I understand.”

Jian Luo inexplicably had a bad premonition. It was the kind of premonition that small animals sometimes had, but he had been out for quite a while, and it was time to go back. So, he just nodded and hung up the phone.

On the other side.

Secretary Jin came in with a pile of documents and asked Lu Shifeng to sign, “Sir, the test reports for the new recruits are out. The first team is applying for field training starting tomorrow. Please give your approval.”

Lu Shifeng nodded and took the documents. Secretary Jin stood nearby, waiting obediently. While he was at it, he also organized the daily schedule and reported on the upcoming work.

After signing the documents, Lu Shifeng asked, “Did you check Jian Luo’s circle of friends?”

Jin Secretary, “Huh?”

Lu Shifeng sat elegantly in his chair, idly twirling his pen with one hand and raising his eyelids as he looked at Secretary Jin. His crimson eyes exuded a palpable pressure.

Secretary Jin finally realized what he meant and quickly opened Jian Luo’s circle of friends. She saw Jian Luo’s latest update and promptly said, “I’ve voted!”

Lu Shifeng raised an eyebrow without confirming or denying, “How many votes?”

Secretary Jin opened the page and honestly replied, “8 votes.”

This couldn’t really be blamed on anyone. If she had to analyze it, it was probably because Jian Luo’s social circle was quite barren! To the point of being extreme. Normally, an average person’s circle of friends would have a couple hundred people, but not Jian Luo. According to Secretary Jin’s knowledge, Jian Luo’s circle of friends probably consisted of just a dozen or so people, and most of them were busy individuals who didn’t have much time to check their friend’s updates.

Of course, it was possible that Marshal Lu had a keen interest in Jian Luo and was the first to notice the latest updates in his circle of friends.

Lu Shifeng said, “Only 8 votes?”

Secretary Jin nodded, agreeing, “Yes, there are 8 votes…”

As they spoke, their gazes met. Secretary Jin choked up a bit, under the meaningful gaze of Marshal Lu. Within that gaze, she gradually understood.

Secretary Jin had some abilities to reach this point. If she were truly foolish, she would have been laid off already. She just hesitated for a few seconds and immediately said, “I understand!”

Lu Shifeng raised an eyebrow without confirming or denying, “Go ahead.”

On the other side.

Jian Fengtai was having afternoon tea with the young emperor.

The information terminal made a “ding” sound. The High Priest set down his tea cup, glanced at his friend’s circle, and raised an eyebrow before casting a glance at the emperor. Quietly, he clicked on the link and cast a vote.

The young emperor had been talking incessantly before but suddenly noticed that the High Priest beside him seemed to be busy with something. He asked curiously, “Minister, are you looking at something?”

Jian Wentai said, “Just taking a look.”

The young emperor felt there was something unusual about it. Minister Jian never just “took a look.” If it was official business, there was no need to hide it. If it was a personal matter, the old Phoenix wouldn’t have such expressions. The thing he was most concerned about now was that young student, wasn’t it?

The emperor keenly sensed something different. He opened his information terminal, found no messages, and then opened his friend’s circle. Sure enough, the latest update was from Jian Luo’s circle.

The young emperor clicked on the link, raising his eyebrows in surprise. “Why are there so few votes?”

Jian Wentai had cast his vote and closed the terminal. “Your Majesty also noticed it?”

“Yes!” The young emperor’s competitive spirit was aroused. “Only 20-something votes, and it seems like the Dragon Clan is dominating below. No, if this goes on, the prize of a meal might be taken by my imperial uncle. I still want to eat stinky tofu!”

Jian Wentai silently watched him.

The young emperor turned to his aide and said, “I just posted a link in the group. Pass the order to all the palace staff to vote!”

The aide’s mouth twitched but nodded, “Yes, Your Majesty.”

The High Priest moved his finger slightly.

Winning a meal in a lottery was not something he particularly cared about, but the customized meal that Jian Luo was offering had piqued his interest. With so many people in the palace, the probability of him winning was relatively low unless…

Jian Wentai remained silent for a moment, moved his hand, and reopened his information terminal. He sent the link to a few trusted subordinates with a concise message: “Vote.”

The members of the Phoenix Clan were quite curious lately, especially when it came to gossip. The main topics of discussion revolved around:

“Did the Lord’s little wife come today?”

“It seems not. Is the Lord playing hide and seek today?”

“He seems to have taken a leave.”

“Maybe their relationship isn’t what it seems?”

The Phoenix Clan, by nature, had an innate curiosity for the unknown, and this desire for knowledge extended to the realm of gossip. Just when everyone was discussing fervently, a link suddenly appeared in the work group. The link’s message was concise: “Vote.”

On the other side.

Jian Luo returned to the classroom where the head teacher was briefing all the parents and children about recent events. He had just come back, and when he opened his mouth to speak, “Next week, we’re planning to hold a flea market. On one hand, everyone can bring their unused items for exchange, and on the other hand, those who are good at crafts can showcase their skills. Outstanding performances can earn extra points, and with more points, you can participate in the sports festival.”

The children below began discussing.

One child spoke up, “Teacher, even if we earn more points, we still can’t compete with the D-ranked classes. Do we still need to participate?”

The head teacher felt a bit awkward and adjusted his glasses, “Everyone should strive.”

But once one child spoke up, others followed suit:

“We participated before and still couldn’t win.”

“They have a higher household registration level than us.”

“The class leader worked really hard, but he was still overtaken.”

Jian Sheng, caught off guard, became the center of attention due to the words of a child. Even if it wasn’t intentional, the collective gazes converged on Jian Sheng, and having so many eyes on him was enough to make anyone uncomfortable.

Jian Sheng felt a moment of awkwardness, and his hand unconsciously clenched. The child who had spoken hesitated, “I think we should still give it a try. How can we know if we can succeed if we don’t try?”

The head teacher nodded and decided to use Jian Sheng as an example, “Take a look, everyone. Jian Sheng is an example worth emulating. Although his vote count is… not high, he has been working very hard. As long as you put in the effort, there is always hope.”

As the head teacher spoke, he turned and opened the voting website, saying, “For example, right now he only has a meager… “

The page refreshed, and the head teacher choked on his words.

Chapter 83 – Who Says Omegas Can’t be as Explosive as Alphas

Chapter 83

When Lu Jingning returned to the light cruiser, Lu Kongbin’s face was visibly as dark as it could get. Even when he was demoted by the military for causing trouble due to being drunk, his expression wasn’t this bad.

Of course, Lu Jingning had no interest in voluntarily going to face a blackened face. As soon as he boarded the light cruiser, he found a spot and lay down, closing his eyes comfortably.

Lu Kongbin had thought he might be appeased with a few words, but during the entire journey back home, Lu Jingning completely ignored him. When they finally reached their destination, Lu Kongbin’s face looked like a door god in a photo, completely scrunched up.

The Lu family’s mansion was not as grand as the Wen family’s, lacking the air of a prominent aristocratic household, but it exuded a sense of discipline, thanks to the high-tech equipment scattered throughout the place.

As Lu Kongbin was often away from home, there were not many servants, so a smart robot named “Lulu” designed by Lu Xuebai, Lu Jingning’s second brother, welcomed them at the entrance. Lulu spoke with an authentic accent from a remote star system, cheerfully saying, “Welcome back, Master!”

Even though Lulu was an AI, it couldn’t completely sense emotions, so it proceeded according to the standard procedure. After taking their coats, it asked, “Would you like to add any other condiments to your tea? We have sugar, honey, or the latest ice fruit preserves.”

Lu Kongbin’s heartache of carefully nurturing his father’s imposing aura was completely shattered by this question. He nearly couldn’t hold back his anger and wanted to overturn the table, shouting, “We don’t need anything! Get lost!!!”

Lulu responded, “Understood. I wish you both a pleasant holiday,” before leaving, closing the door behind it.

Lu Kongbin then heard Lu Jingning chuckling beside him, and his gaze became stern.

At that moment, Lu Jingning also looked over, and they unexpectedly locked eyes. The next moment, Lu Kongbin’s expression softened as he sighed, “Ning, tell your father what’s going on between you and Wen Xingchen?”

It wasn’t that he was spineless, but he had always treated this youngest son as his treasure. Even if he wanted to be strict, he couldn’t bring himself to do it.

“Why do you need to ask? If you really want to know, I can’t hide it from you,” Lu Jingning said with a smile, not beating around the bush. He straightforwardly admitted, “Wen Xingchen is my boyfriend now, just like you heard.”

Lu Kongbin touched his chest, puzzled, “Since when?”

Damn it, he remembered that the last time he visited the Imperial Sea Military, they were just pure classmates, right?

After thinking for a moment, Lu Jingning said, “Not too long, after the military academy exchange competition.”

Lu Kongbin nearly gritted his teeth; it took all his strength not to lose his temper. He asked the question that had been haunting him in his heart, “Tell me, how did that guy with the surname Wen deceive…cough, chase you?”

Lu Jingning looked at him strangely, “Chase? Wen Xingchen didn’t chase after me. I chased after him.”

His tone sounded proud.

Lu Kongbin: “……”

Damn, don’t hold him back! He wanted to fly back right now and chop that brat into pieces!!! Being able to get someone like Lu Jingning was a lifetime of good fortune, yet he still dared to pretend and ask Lu Jingning to chase him instead?! Can he bear it???

Lu Jingning didn’t bring this up when he was at the Wen family because he guessed that if Lu Kongbin knew about it, he could fly into a rage at any moment. Now, seeing his old man already fuming with anger, he immediately pushed the teacup in front of him and smiled apologetically, “Lao Lu, believe me, the Alpha I like won’t be inferior.”

Lu Kongbin, under Lu Jingning’s gaze, drank from the cup with a gloomy face and retorted, “You know nothing!”

Seeing that Lu Kongbin managed to hold back his temper for the time being, Lu Jingning spoke quickly, “The first time I saw Wen Xingchen, I thought he was putting on airs, but later during the basketball match, we had some friction with students from other academies…”

When Lu Kongbin heard the words “stimulant,” his entire expression changed, and he lost focus on the rest of the conversation.

For him, he thought that was the most explosive piece of news, but unexpectedly, Lu Jingning casually continued to describe the following events, roughly detailing the marks they had made in the subsequent matches.

“So, you two have already…”

Lu Kongbin subconsciously reached into his pocket, feeling like he needed to carry some quick-acting heart pills at all times.

Lu Jingning said, “Dad, do you understand now? Wen Xingchen is really different from his father; he’s incredibly loyal!”

Throughout the conversation, Lu Jingning kept repeating how loyal Wen Xingchen was.

At this point, Lu Kongbin really couldn’t bear to hear those two words again. If he continued listening, he feared he might forget the meaning of “loyal.”

In the end, Lu Kongbin waved his hand with mental exhaustion and said, “Ning, you must be tired. Go rest first, and I… I need some time alone.”

Lu Jingning tactfully replied, “Sure, you take your time to process this.”

After Lu Jingning left, Lulu, who was waiting outside, peeked inside, “Master, according to the examination, your heart rate and blood pressure are far above normal levels. Would you like some treatment?”

Lu Kongbin took a deep breath, “No need! Be quiet!”

Lulu turned and left, “Alright, continue.”

Lu Kongbin sat there for a long time.

He hadn’t expected that in such a short time since the start of the semester, Lu Jingning had experienced so many things. What saddened him even more was that he, as an inadequate father, only found out about all of this just now.

That Wen Xingchen…

Lu Kongbin closed his eyes heavily and opened the terminal in the study. He connected to a video call with his other two sons.

Soon, the virtual images of the two appeared in the air, “Dad.”

The Lu family had three sons, all of them Omega. Except for Lu Jingning, who didn’t follow the traditional path, his two older brothers chose not to join the military but pursue their respective fields. The eldest, Lu Jiyuan, worked as the Chief Interstellar Consultant in a top law firm, and the second brother, Lu Xuebai, served in the Imperial Research Department.

They were all usually busy, and combined with Lu Kongbin’s frequent missions in other star systems, they rarely had video calls unless there was something important.

Now, Lu Kongbin looked at his two sons, his expression full of complexity, “Today, I think it’s necessary to have a family meeting. It’s about… Jingning.”

Surprisingly, Lu Jingning found that his heartfelt conversation had a significant effect. After that, Lu Kongbin never brought up the Wen family matter again.

Life returned to a shameless state as he wished, but due to preparations for the bounty league, overall, it was still very busy. With each passing day, they were getting closer to the start of the league.

Lu Jingning had initially thought that Bing Cang had only arranged for the three of them to participate, but when they departed, he discovered that the entire car was filled with students who had signed up.

Seeing the students from different academies, Lu Jingning’s expression slightly darkened, “What happened to shouldering the future of the school?”

Bing Yunlin, who sat nearby, smiled, “In previous bounty events, many students from every school would sign up. The more participants, the higher the chances of winning. Isn’t that good?”

Lu Jingning’s mouth twitched.

Damn it! This old man is so evil! Every day, he only thinks about enticing us, the future blossoms of the Empire!

Bing Yunlin sensed his resentment and leaned in, using a voice only they could hear to comfort, “Most of the people here are just cannon fodder. You guys, who understand the importance of this league, are the main characters. So, whether or not we succeed will depend on you.”

Wen Ye couldn’t help but glance over, while Lu Jingning snorted but felt much better.

Just as he was about to say something, his communicator suddenly rang.

Opening it, he found it was from his eldest brother.

The content matched Lu Jiyuan’s character: “I will arrive at the B Star System tomorrow afternoon. Let’s have a meal together.”

The B Star System was where the preliminary matches of the bounty league were being held.

Lu Jingning wasn’t surprised how Lu Jiyuan knew he would participate in the bounty league. But upon seeing the message, his eyebrows knitted in distress.

From childhood to now, he feared his disciplined and almost rigid eldest brother the most.

The author has something to say: So, are you sure everything will be fine?

——

From Lu Jingning’s memoirs: One year, when I was still at the Imperial Sea, I participated in a bounty competition in a certain star system and accidentally became famous throughout the interstellar space. It was probably the closest I’ve ever been to being an interstellar idol.

Chapter 7 – It's hard to escape from the Omegaverse trope!

Chapter 7

Tang Xiyan gave him a sidelong glance and said, “After all these years as an idol, do you think I can’t tell if someone is strange? I’m not dumb. I just didn’t expect my assistant to be so diligent. What? Is the company asking you to sleep with me tonight?”

Why did that phrase sound so strange?

“I’ll go make the bed first. You finish your meal, and I’ll wash up afterward.”

“Hey! Aren’t you going to eat?”

“I made dumplings, pork and corn filling.”

An artist eating a meal replacement, and he’s offering me dumplings? Tang Xiyan was both annoyed and amused. This guy was definitely doing it on purpose, just look at him, he’s definitely smiling!

During the night, the wind picked up, rustling the trees outside. Tang Xiyan tossed and turned, unable to sleep. Besides his growling stomach, there was something else… he felt uncomfortable all over.

He half-awoke several times, suddenly jolted out of his sleep. Finally, he grabbed his phone and checked the time: 3 a.m. He realized he couldn’t sleep because he was hungry, so he sat up, planning to go downstairs and find something to eat.

He wondered if there were any dumplings left from Qu Di’s purchase. He could secretly cook a few for himself. It’s not like Qu Di would mind if he found out the next day.

He picked up his phone, turned on the flashlight function, and as soon as he placed his feet on the floor, he looked up and noticed, through the window, a pair of eyes staring at him. The dim light from his phone illuminated the person, and the person slowly grinned at him.

!!!

He pulled Qu Di’s hand over and rested it on his shoulder, then wrapped his arm around Qu Di’s waist. He was a bit anxious, “Don’t fall asleep, you know? Talk to me, um… or listen to me. You didn’t feed me enough today, otherwise, I could handle her with one hand. Also, I have to report to the gym tomorrow. I’m thinking of signing you up for it as well…”

Tang Xiyan brought Qu Di into the room and placed him on the bed, locked the door, and then chatted incessantly with Qu Di while searching for his phone. He kept glancing back to see if Qu Di had fallen asleep.

“Don’t sleep. I’ve talked so much, and you haven’t said a word. Where did you hide your phone?”

“Under the pillow.”

Tang Xiyan reached under the pillow and found his phone. He checked it, and luckily, it wasn’t locked. He first called 120 and then 110 [/mfn]Numbers for the emergency services[/mfn].

Turning back, he tried to comfort Qu Di, “It’s okay, they will be here soon. You… you’ve lost a lot of blood.” Tang Xiyan hurriedly grabbed a sheet from the bed and twisted it into a makeshift bandage, trying to stop the bleeding from his wound.

“This should do, I think.”

Qu Di felt that his arm was numb, and his ankle, where he had been bitten, throbbed with pain. He decided to close his eyes for a moment to conserve energy, but as soon as he closed his eyes, Tang Xiyan patted his face a few times, not too gently.

“Don’t sleep.”

“I… just want to rest for a moment. Maybe you can try to be quieter. I have a headache.”

Tang Xiyan closed his mouth somewhat dejectedly, thought for a moment, and then covered him with a fallen blanket from the floor, fearing he might get cold. This beta really didn’t realize how well he was being taken care of. Did he know who was looking after him?

Tang Xiyan’s punch had been quite powerful. By the time the police and the hospital staff arrived, there was no further commotion outside. Later, it was said that the girl’s nose was crooked, and she had a mild concussion.

As for Qu Di, the injuries were not too severe. They were all superficial wounds, and after being bandaged, he could be discharged the next day. So when Tang Xiyan returned from the police station and saw him, he was somewhat surprised, but then his lips curled up, and he walked quickly to him, “You’re okay?”

“It’s just superficial wounds. After bandaging, it will be fine,” then Qu Di asked about his agent, “Does he still have to work today?”

“No need, take a day off. I’ve contacted the film crew, and we’ve moved the makeup photoshoot to tomorrow.”

Since there was no work, Qu Di didn’t plan to stay here any longer, “Then I’ll go back.”

“Hey,” Tang Xiyan grabbed Qu Di’s hand.

“Ah…”

Tang Xiyan quickly let go of his hand, “Sorry, I forgot your hand is injured.” He scratched his head, not very naturally, “How about… I take you home?”

Before Qu Di could speak, Qiu Fei rejected the suggestion, “You take him home, and there may be paparazzi chasing you. I’m afraid his hand will be permanently damaged by reporters. Rest for a while, I’ll take him home.”

“…,” Tang Xiyan nodded in agreement. Indeed, there were a bunch of reporters outside the police station, and he had just managed to break through the siege to get back. But he really couldn’t help worrying about Qu Di; after all, he was partially responsible for his injuries.

Qu Di could see that Tang Xiyan wanted to make it up to him for last night’s incident, but he also knew that Tang Xiyan was a victim. Moreover, protecting his artist was part of Tang Xiyan’s job, so he didn’t want any compensation.

He smiled and said, “You’re tired too, rest and get ready for work tomorrow. I’m not missing any limbs; don’t be like this. I’m getting used to it.”

“Okay, I’m leaving.”

Tang Xiyan pushed Qiu Fei aside like a dog and opened the door for Qu Di. Qiu Fei rolled his eyes at him.

After Qu Di left, Tang Xiyan received a call from his elder brother. It was clear that his brother had been informed by Qiu Fei.

“How is it?”

Tang Xiyan slouched on the couch, picked up an apple from the fruit bowl on the table, and took a bite, “I won’t die.”

“What are they going to do with the woman?” Although his younger brother was quite wayward, he couldn’t just leave him to fend for himself in such a situation.

“I think she’s not quite right in the head.”

“Her family has already hired a lawyer. They seem to be planning an insanity defense. After all, the law allows for them to plead insanity.”

As expected, Tang Xiyan bit into the apple and finished it off in three or four bites, then threw the apple core into the trash can. “There are things we can’t do in front of the police, but it’s a different story inside a psychiatric hospital. They might as well send her to prison.”

“Okay, I understand. You should focus on your work,” he said, about to hang up the phone.

Tang Xiyan suddenly remembered something and stopped him, “Hey, brother, about my assistant, he injured his hand and leg! See… isn’t this a work-related injury?”

On the other end, his brother laughed softly and said, “Medical expenses will be reimbursed by the company, but this is considered part of his job. Don’t think about anything else.” Without waiting for him to respond, he hung up the phone.

It was the first time Tang Xiyan had been so disgusted with his brother, a capitalist who couldn’t resist any opportunity for profit. He thought for a moment, he had money, why not pay for it himself? It would be like reaching into his own pocket. So he transferred two thousand yuan to Qu Di’s WeChat.

“You can’t give too much; I’m afraid it will go to his head.”

Xiyan: [WeChat transfer: Bonus]

Qu Di: [What’s this for?]

Xiyan: [Your bonus for the work-related injury.]

Qu Di: [Why are you the one sending it? Besides, Fei-bro said it doesn’t count as a work-related injury.]

Xiyan: [Why are you so nosy? Tang-bro told me to send it to you. Others won’t know, so don’t talk about it everywhere.]

Qu Di: [Well, thanks. Please convey my thanks to Tang-bro.]

Xiyan: [Okay.]

Tang Xiyan had resolved a major issue that had been on his mind and was planning to take a refreshing shower and catch up on some sleep.

On the other hand, Qu Di, looking at the money transferred on his phone, fell into contemplation. Would Tang General really contact his artists privately? And why didn’t he give it directly but had to use him as a middleman? Could there be something between these two Alphas that wasn’t immediately obvious?

Qu Di felt like he had stumbled upon a big secret.

The incident of a sasaeng fan breaking into Xiyan’s residence and injuring his assistant quickly took over the headlines of various entertainment magazines and topped the trending topics on social media on the same day. In the afternoon, internet users had already dug up various private information about the culprit, and some even found her parents’ residence, leading to a crowd gathering outside their home, refusing to leave.

Qiu Fei brought the information to Tang Xiyan, “This person is one of your ardent fans. She isn’t wealthy. Three days ago, she borrowed tens of thousands to rent the villa next to yours and began stalking you. That’s why you kept encountering her so many times that night. According to her incoherent confession, she had actually been waiting outside your house that night. She initially wanted to leave once Qu Di left, but he didn’t leave until late at night. She started feeling resentful and developed delusions about Qu Di seducing her idol, so she climbed onto your balcony.”

“When will this trending topic be taken down?” Tang Xiyan was growing increasingly uncomfortable with the idea of his personal life being discussed and debated by the public for an entire day. Initially, it was fine for people to discuss it, but later, they began attacking Qu Di, questioning why an assistant was allowed to stay overnight with an artist. He had no choice but to post a clarification.

“The production team plans to keep it trending a bit longer. By the way, tomorrow, you have a makeup photoshoot, and we’ve arranged for a press release, so we need your cooperation. Try to appear tired and give the impression of smiling at the fans even when you’re worn out. You know what I mean? I’ve already informed Qu Di that you’re not allowed to have breakfast tomorrow to make it look more realistic.”

“…”

Chapter 7 – The origin of the Snake Mother

Chapter 7

The Little White Dragon twiddled its whiskers and didn’t respond.

Si Lan hadn’t expected the Little White Dragon to answer, but its actions still made him chuckle.

Despite its young age, it had such a cold, aloof disposition. He figured that when it grew up, it would be quite a handful.

Si Lan lifted the Little White Dragon’s two horns and said, “As a dragon, you should be polite and not frown so easily.”

The Little White Dragon subconsciously extended its leg to kick Si Lan, but its limbs were too short, and it couldn’t reach him. Si Lan couldn’t help but smile, and his heart softened.

He decided to use a combination of encouragement and authority, so he took out a colorful feather from his storage pouch and handed it to the Little White Dragon. “Here, I only have three of these colorful feathers on me. This is one of them, very precious. I’m giving it to you as a gift. If you behave well, I’ll give you the other two.”

“…” The Little White Dragon.

A colorful feather…

They say that when birds of courtship give a beautiful feather to each other, it’s a sign of affection.

So, is this bird implying something?

The Little White Dragon scowled, but the other person’s attitude was so firm that he simply stuffed the feather into its arms. It reluctantly hugged it with its tiny paws.

As soon as Si Lan couldn’t see, it promptly tossed the feather away.

Si Lan quickly tidied himself up a bit and carried the Little White Dragon with him to find Lou Yuqing at Song Qing Pavilion to inquire about the snake mother’s matter.

However, the disciples of Song Qing Pavilion informed Si Lan that Lou Yuqing was busy preparing for tomorrow’s wedding and had no time to see him.

Si Lan had a gut feeling that Lou Yuqing was deliberately avoiding him. Thinking back to the scene he saw of Lou Yuqing last night, most of Lou Yuqing’s face was hidden in the shadows, not very clear, but his aura was still unique and unmatched. He was definitely the real person.

He wondered what was bothering Lou Yuqing and why he was acting so strangely.

The giant plant, Thorned Orchid, which was sprawled on Xuanling Mountain, now glistened with red flowers under the sunlight, emitting a brilliant red glow.

These flowers looked even more vibrant than the ones that had bloomed yesterday.

Si Lan sniffed the air delicately, detecting not only the faint scent of flowers but also a lingering trace of a snake-like odor.

At this moment, Xu Yili and a group of disciples came over, carrying a cloud-patterned bronze tray with items for the bridal chamber. They gently covered them with red silk.

Upon seeing Si Lan, Xu Yili and the others immediately bowed, “Greetings to Master Si.”

Si Lan suddenly thought of a way to approach Xu Yili and asked if he could accompany him since he wasn’t familiar with Xuanling Mountain and was considering taking a stroll in the vicinity. Xu Yili was a warm-hearted person, so he readily agreed and handed over the items to the other disciples, leading Si Lan on a tour.

“Master Si, I’ve been at Xuanling Mountain for over ten years, and I’m extremely familiar with every plant and stone here. You’ve found the right person for guidance.”

Si Lan smiled, “That’s good.”

The two of them walked down a stone staircase, following the unique terrain of Xuanling Mountain. The area was abundant with lush trees and vibrant flora, with an unusually high presence of wildlife.

After walking for a while, Si Lan casually asked, “The last time I saw your Master, he was entirely focused on cultivation. I didn’t expect him to suddenly marry.”

Xu Yili scratched his head, “Perhaps Senior Lan of Yunlan touched Master’s heart after all…”

Si Lan knew about the relationship between Lou Yuqing and Yunlan. Yunlan’s father was Lou Yuqing’s master, the former head of Xuanling Mountain, and Yunlan and Lou Yuqing had grown up together. Yunlan had admired Lou Yuqing from a young age, but Lou Yuqing had shown no romantic interest in her.

When the former head of Xuanling Mountain was on his deathbed, he entrusted Yunlan to Lou Yuqing, hinting at a marriage promise, but Lou Yuqing only said he was born for the Dao and had no consideration for love.

The former head of the mountain breathed out his last before closing his eyes forever.

After taking the position of the new head, Lou Yuqing secluded himself for several decades to sever any romantic feelings Yunlan had for him.

Si Lan chuckled, “Has something happened recently that made your Master change his mind?”

Xu Yili suddenly glanced around, ensuring there were no eavesdroppers, before saying, “It’s probably because Master had an experience in the Sacred Domain Demon Valley. When he returned, his priorities had shifted.”

“?”

Si Lan was surprised and curious, and even the Little White Dragon poked its head out from his collar, listening to the gossip.

Xu Yi lowered his voice and said, “Well, in order to fulfill the wishes of our ancestors, our Master has been hunting down the three major demons that threaten humanity. The first two demons were relatively easy to deal with, but this third one, the Holy Domain Moth King, is causing some trouble.”

With a sigh, Xu Yi continued, “Ah, three months ago, after our Master jumped into the Moth Valley, he lost contact with the outside world. When he returned, it was as if he had changed completely. It didn’t take long for him to propose the idea of marrying Senior Brother Yun Lan.”

Si Lan had heard about the three major demons from Lou Yuqing before, but at that time, Lou Yuqing mentioned it in the context of overcoming the ordeal of love and avoiding Junior Sister Yun Lan, saying he had been hunting demons outside. What on earth happened in that demon valley to make Lou Yuqing give up his ruthless path?

Si Lan was perplexed and furrowed his brow. As they walked halfway up the mountain, a cluster of Téng Yīng flowers danced in the wind and came towards them. Si Lan reached out to catch the vines and gazed at them, saying, “The Téng Yīng flowers seem to be blooming more vigorously than yesterday.”

Xu Yi smiled and replied, “Yes, the flowers are getting better day by day. Maybe it’s because of the good Feng Shui of Xuanling Mountain.”

Si Lan neither confirmed nor denied this, but during their conversation, he discreetly checked for the presence of the Serpent Mother’s aura. Unfortunately, the entire Xuanling Mountain seemed to be saturated with the scent of the serpent clan, making it impossible for him to detect the Serpent Mother’s presence.

He could only continue walking while observing possible locations where the Serpent Mother might be held captive.

He remembered asking Xu Yi about the Charming Serpents last night, and Xu Yi seemed genuinely unaware of why they attacked the Xuanling Sect. So, he tentatively asked, “I’ve heard that Charming Serpents are usually led by a Serpent Mother. When they attacked Xuanling Gate last night, it seems we didn’t spot the Serpent Mother.”

Xu Yi looked bewildered and said, “Is that so? I don’t think I’ve ever seen the Serpent Mother.”

Si Lan observed Xu Yi’s expression and concluded that he genuinely didn’t know about the Serpent Mother’s captivity in the Xuanling Sect. This meant that the other disciples of the sect were probably also in the dark.

What was Lóu Yù, in secret, doing behind the entire Xuanling Sect’s back?

As they passed by several locations, Si Lan casually asked questions, but he found nothing unusual.

Dusk had quietly descended over Xuanling Mountain, enveloping the entire place in a faint twilight. Si Lan was growing anxious as he hadn’t discovered anything yet. However, just when he was in deep thought, the small white dragon in his arms suddenly emerged.

With its four tiny pink paws, it scuttled through the grass towards a waterfall up ahead.

The waterfall was located on the left side of Xuanling Mountain, cascading down from steep cliffs. The stream was very shallow, with layers of yellowish stones in the water. The setting sun’s rays shimmered on the surface, creating a beautiful display.

The small white dragon crouched by the stream, drinking water.

Si Lan suddenly remembered that he had been so focused on feeding the small white dragon Immortal Fruits these past few days that he had forgotten to give it water. He felt a bit guilty about it.

He bent down, intending to remind the small white dragon to drink slowly, but his gaze fell on the stones in the stream, and he suddenly froze.

At first glance, the pile of stones in the middle of the stream seemed no different from the ones on the side. However, upon closer inspection, he realized that these small stones were connected, forming a dense and orderly pattern. This seemed to be the entrance to a hidden passage, cleverly disguised as a stack of stones.

Si Lan remained composed. After the small white dragon had finished drinking, he picked it up and thought to himself that this little creature was quite resourceful, even in something as simple as drinking water. Bringing it to Xuanling Mountain had been a good idea.

Xu Yi, who had been cautious earlier, now felt more comfortable around Si Lan and asked, “Master Sì, what kind of snake can change color in your arms?”

“Oh, it’s a chameleon snake,” Si Lan made up a response, not revealing the true identity of the small white dragon to avoid unnecessary trouble.

Upon hearing “chameleon snake,” the small white dragon ground its teeth.

“Xu Yi, it’s getting late. You should go back and attend to your tasks. I’ll take a walk by myself.”

“Sure, Master Sì, if you need anything, just call me.”

“Alright.”

Red banners fluttered in the wind on Xuanling Mountain, and red lanterns lit up along the ridges, resembling a dragon of joy, creating a festive atmosphere across the entire mountain.

Tomorrow was the wedding day, and most of the preparations were complete. Many early arriving guests had also made their way to the mountain.

After wandering around the mountain for a while and confirming that no one was following him, Si Lan used a spell to conceal his presence and approached the waterfall. He ran his fingers along the stones in the middle of the stream, making sure it was a stone door, and then used magic to pry it open.

At the moment the stone door moved, the waterfall suddenly stopped, and the stream froze, creating an eerie scene, as if it had been subjected to a petrification spell.

Inside the stone door was a narrow, winding passage that extended into darkness, seemingly endless. Si Lan didn’t hesitate and jumped in.

As the stone door closed behind him, the world instantly became pitch black.

Faint sounds of dripping water could be heard from all around, creating a mysterious and somewhat eerie atmosphere in the otherwise silent space.

Si Lan conjured a small flame and flew it ahead to provide some illumination.

The stone passage was surrounded by huge rocks, and the dim light revealed a network of intricate patterns on the surface of these rocks, giving them an eerie appearance.

After walking for some time, he suddenly reached a fork in the road, with tunnels leading in all directions.

He was unsure which path to take when the small white dragon in his arms tugged at his collar and flew towards the left path.

In this left direction, there was a distinct scent of snakes, stronger than in the other three directions.

Si Lan quickly grabbed the small white dragon and said, “Little one, don’t wander around!” This place was strange, and caution was essential.

As expected, as he approached the next corner, an unfamiliar presence suddenly emerged, and a powerful strike of palm wind aimed for Si Lan’s head.

Si Lan moved aside just in time to dodge the attack and quickly circled behind the assailant, pinning him against the stone wall.

The assailant was an ordinary cultivator in the Yuán Yīng stage.

“Don’t kill me! Are you here for the treasure too?” the man hurriedly begged for mercy, turning his head with a fawning expression.

Si Lan scrutinized him. The man wore a white robe over a blue Taoist robe, had a thin build, and a crafty-looking face with sunken eyes, giving him a somewhat cunning appearance.

Si Lan released his grip, maintaining his composure, and replied, “Hmm.” Although he didn’t know what the man meant by “treasure,” he pretended to understand, ensuring that he didn’t make any mistakes.

“I’m a cultivator from the Tiān Jí Sect, Song Guang. May I ask, friend, what’s your name?” Song Guang inquired.

Si Lan spontaneously provided a false name, “Luo Ting.”

“Luo Fellow Daoist, it seems you’re a kind-hearted person. How about we team up to steal this treasure and cultivate together?” Song Guang proposed.

Si Lan felt the small white dragon in his arms shift and gently patted its back, trying to calm it. He responded, “Sure, Sòng Fellow Daoist. May I ask how you learned about the treasure here?”

Song Guang lowered his voice and spoke in a secretive manner, “A few days ago, I infiltrated the Charming Serpent Clan while hunting demons. I overheard it accidentally from an elder of the Charming Serpents. It seems the Sect Leader Lou Yuqing achieved his current strength at a young age thanks to this treasure. Haha, the Xuanling Sect had been boasting about Lou Yuqing being a once-in-a-millennium genius, but he’s nothing more than an opportunist.”

Si Lan neither confirmed nor denied this information. As Song Guang continued to speak, it became clear that the Serpent Mother had sent a dream to the Charming Serpent elder, revealing that the Xuanling Sect had imprisoned her to access the Golden Orb Immortal Box.

This mysterious treasure was hidden within the Immortal Box, which had been safeguarded beneath Xuanling Mountain for centuries.

As they continued walking, Song Guang suddenly asked, “By the way, Luō Fellow Daoist, how did you know the treasure was here?”

Si Lan pointed ahead, changing the subject, “Look over there!”

Song Guang immediately turned around and saw a massive circular platform at the end of the stone passage. It resembled an ancient sacrificial altar, adorned with peculiar runes on all sides. Four chains descended from different directions, suspending a massive iron cage.

Inside the cage, a green serpent lay motionless. Runes were affixed above its head, rendering it motionless like a wooden sculpture.

Si Lan and Song Guang cast spells to levitate and observed the green serpent.

Song Guang exclaimed in surprise, “Could that be the Serpent Mother?”

Si Lan nodded. The serpent before them had an elliptical head, a thicker tail, vivid and colorful patterns on its body, and a brown gem adorning its forehead, all signifying its identity and status – a member of the Charming Serpent Clan, the Serpent Mother.

Si Lan gently waved his hand, causing the seal on the Serpent Mother’s forehead to instantly vanish.

In the next moment, the Serpent Mother slowly opened her eyelids, revealing two large black eyes, like pearls, which turned to focus on Si Lan and Song Guang.

Excited, Song Guang stepped forward and eagerly asked, “Serpent Mother, do you know where the Golden Orb Immortal Box is hidden?”

The Serpent Mother ignored Song Guang’s question, instead slowly rising, swaying her tail, and causing the cage to creak.

Looking down at Si Lan, she asked, “Who are you?”

“I’m Luo Ting,” Si Lan calmly told a lie.

“Are you working with that old Daoist?” she inquired.

Si Lan heard the term “old Daoist” being used to refer to Lou Yuqing for the first time. “No, that Lou… Old Daoist, why did he capture you?”

“He’s a madman! He caught me and deliberately lured my clan members to rescue me, intending to use their blood to nourish the Téng Yīng flowers… I can’t let my clan members die trying to save me again…” The Serpent Mother suddenly became emotional, swaying her tail as if trying to break free from the cage.

However, her core was sealed, and the cage was covered in runes. As she struggled, silver beams of light fell from above, and she let out a howl of pain.

“Don’t move! Si Lan glanced at the runes on the cage and was contemplating how to free the Serpent Mother when Song Guang interrupted.

Song Guang impatiently approached, “Luō Fellow Daoist, the longer we stay here, the more dangerous it becomes. Our top priority is to find the Golden Orb Immortal Box.”

As he spoke, Song Guang greedily looked at the Serpent Mother.

The Serpent Mother gasped for breath, tears welling up in her eyes due to the pain. She said, “I don’t know where the Golden Orb Immortal Box is!”

“I distinctly heard your elders talking about it. Lou Yuqing captured you to unlock the seal of the Golden Orb Immortal Box,” Song Guang’s face grew darker, thinking the Serpent Mother was deceiving him. He suddenly grabbed the cage and asked, “So why couldn’t you possibly know where the Immortal Box is?”

Si Lan extended his hand to stop Song Guang’s action, but he was too late.

When Song Guang touched the cage, it triggered a mechanism. With a loud rumble, the cage plummeted rapidly, and the circular platform beneath their feet suddenly split open, absorbing the cage before seamlessly closing.

Strange sounds echoed from the walls of the cave. Black mist seeped out of the cracks, gradually coalescing into a terrifying face, resembling a faceless beast with a gaping mouth. It lunged at Si Lan and Song Guang.

“Run!”

The black mist was a Mist Demon, and it could rot the skin upon contact. More and more black mist emerged from the cave walls. Simultaneously, other mechanisms were triggered, sending countless silver arrow-like lights rushing toward the two.

Si Lan hurriedly chanted a spell, his figure transforming into a green radiance, as he swiftly left the circular platform.

However, Song Guang was accidentally hit in the shoulder by one of the arrows, and he let out a cry of pain, falling to the ground. Seeing this, Si Lan grabbed Song Guang’s clothes and pulled him away.

As the black mist advanced and the silver lights closed in, Song Guang couldn’t keep up. The tunnel ahead had a narrow path that could accommodate only one person at a time.

Si Lan directed the wounded man to go ahead while he created a protective barrier at the tunnel entrance. However, the black mist was fast, and it soon caught up.

Just as it was about to reach them, Song Guang suddenly placed a rune above Si Lan’s head, freezing Si Lan’s body in place, attempting to use him as a shield against the mist.

“Sorry, Luō Fellow Daoist. I’ll repay this life-saving favor in the next life,” Song Guang said with a grin. After saying this, he turned and tried to run away. However, just a few steps later, he suddenly let out a sharp cry of pain.

“Ah… Ugh…”

In the darkness, the Supreme Immortal in purple robes and a jade belt appeared, holding a long sword and slowly advancing towards Song Guang against the light.

“You… you… you…”

As Song Guang saw the face of the approaching figure clearly, he was overcome with fear and despair, falling to the ground.

The black mist closed in from all sides, and a pair of hands emerged from the dense fog, gripping Song Guang’s throat. The skin that came into contact with the black mist quickly rotted away.

Song Guang struggled in agony, but he couldn’t break free. He desperately turned his neck, trying to seek help from behind. However, the figure of Si Lan, who had been fixed at the tunnel entrance, had suddenly disappeared.

Song Guang was left stunned and bewildered. What was happening? Where was Si Lan?

Chapter 5 – The Miser

Chapter 5 – The Miser

After giving some guidance to Little Black Dragon, Su Muluo remembered that Zheng Hechun and a few others were still standing at the door. He slightly stepped aside and said, “Please come in.”

Zheng Hechun thanked him and led the others into the room. Their faces were calm, but their movements were cautious, as if they were not entering an ordinary rented house but a place filled with hidden dangers.

Su Muluo had initially thought about making tea for his guests, but he realized he didn’t have any tea leaves. However, he had a few cans of milk. So, he asked, “Would you like some milk?”

Zheng Hechun waved his hand and smiled, saying, “No, we’re not thirsty, so you don’t need to trouble yourself.” They didn’t dare to let this gentleman pour water for them, especially since the real dragon in his hand was coldly watching them.

Su Muluo didn’t insist and simply nodded, then sat down with Little Black Dragon.

The living room fell silent for a moment, and Zheng Hechun spoke again with a smile, “Is this your first time in Lin City? I don’t recall seeing you before.”

He had noticed the wristband provided by the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings on Su Muluo’s wrist and knew that only young talents who had recently arrived in the human world for less than a year needed to wear such magical monitoring devices.

Su Muluo replied, “Yes, I registered with the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings just yesterday.”

He wasn’t afraid of the Bureau discovering his true identity because the Phoenix and Dragon clans were long gone from the human world’s perspective. With the power of these human cultivators, they wouldn’t be able to see through his true form. When the old Rabbit Yao helped him sell feathers, they only claimed they were feathers from a thousand-year-old demon, as publicly revealing himself as the last Phoenix might cause trouble. Now that Little Black Dragon had just hatched, revealing his true identity would undoubtedly stir up trouble once again, which would be detrimental to him and his dragon.

Zheng Hechun was slightly surprised but quickly understood the coincidence. He realized that the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings wanted to show goodwill to Su Muluo and was inclined to cooperate with him. Su Muluo’s earlier words indicated his willingness to accept this overture because he also had a request for the Bureau.

With this understanding, the situation became much clearer. Zheng Hechun’s smile became more sincere as he said, “Usually, when supernatural beings want to open a shop in a human city, they have to go through several inspections. But since it’s your request, we will expedite the process for you. You don’t need to worry about any formalities, including obtaining your human identity card.”

Su Muluo nodded slightly and said, “Thank you. You’ve helped me, and in return, if you ever need assistance, I’ll be there.”

He didn’t plan to join the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings, but now that Little Black Dragon’s identity was exposed, the Bureau would undoubtedly keep an eye on them. In such a situation, it was better for both sides to show goodwill and cooperate amicably.

Zheng Hechun was pleased with this outcome. It was the best result they had hoped for, as Su Muluo’s commitment included not only himself but also the real dragon he possessed. They had no intention of recruiting Su Muluo into the Bureau, but having this commitment was more than enough.

Although humans and supernatural beings had lived in peace for many years, there were still hidden undercurrents at play. However, due to the balance maintained between the two sides, these tensions had not erupted into major conflicts. Now, with a real dragon in the mix, that balance might be disrupted, and opportunistic individuals might manipulate the situation, leading to renewed conflicts and hostilities. The consequences of such a scenario were unimaginable.

That’s why the Bureau’s headquarters wanted to establish a positive relationship with the real dragon. They believed that as a potential disruptor of the balance, the real dragon, as long as it didn’t interfere with that balance, could help maintain the peace between humans and supernatural beings.

Now that they had obtained the commitment, Zheng Hechun bid farewell to Su Muluo, promising to deliver the identity card and ensuring that all procedures for opening a shop would be hassle-free if he decided to go ahead with it.

Su Muluo thanked them and escorted them to the door. As they walked out of the ordinary old housing complex, Zheng Hechun let out a sigh of relief, realizing that he had broken out in a cold sweat at some point.

“Let the headquarters know,” he said, feeling relieved. “The one who accepted our goodwill, the danger has temporarily passed.”

A fellow cultivator beside him asked, “Should we withdraw the people who were staying nearby?”

“Not for now. After all, that’s a real dragon, and we mustn’t take it lightly.” Zheng Hechun looked around the area and continued, “Of course, I believe he has noticed too, but since he hasn’t shown any aggression, it means this is within his tolerance.”

The fellow cultivator nodded, somewhat contemplative. “It seems we still don’t understand supernatural beings well enough. We thought we had a good grasp of their power, but suddenly, such a being emerges. Is this what creatures with hundreds or thousands of years of lifespan are like? They’ve hidden themselves very deeply.”

After a few seconds of silence, Zheng Hechun shook his head and sighed, “It’s an unavoidable situation. In any case, we need to be even more cautious from now on.”

“Zheng Bureau,” at that moment, a female cultivator who had been lost in thought since leaving the rental property suddenly spoke up. “I have a question.”

Zheng Hechun turned to her, and she continued, “I checked the records before we came. It seems that a being of similar scale to today’s events appeared about 1,800 years ago, and it’s eerily similar. You see, the only beings on the same level as a real dragon are phoenixes.”

Zheng Hechun’s expression changed, and the female cultivator paused before lowering her voice. “Could it be that the one we met just now is the legendary phoenix…”

“No, that’s impossible.”

Zheng Hechun took a deep breath, ran a hand over his forehead, and realized that he had broken into a cold sweat again, unnoticed.

“If it were a phoenix, he would never tolerate the existence of a real dragon, and the same goes for the dragon.” He said, “The Dragon and Phoenix clans harbored deep hatred long before their fall, and they wouldn’t just settle for breaking bones and shedding blood. How could they coexist peacefully under the same roof?”

The female cultivator fell silent for a moment, then nodded and said, “My mistake. I completely forgot about that.”

“No, you’ve been attentive enough; it’s just that our understanding of supernatural beings is still limited.” Zheng Hechun said, “Let’s go. We need to report back to headquarters, and as for what happens next… we’ll figure it out later.”

Inside the rental property, Su Muluo removed the wristband provided by the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings. Before leaving, Zheng Hechun had told him that he no longer needed to wear it, a sign of the Bureau’s trust in him.

Of course, on the surface, it was trust, but Su Muluo didn’t believe that the Bureau would completely leave him alone. At least for some time to come, there would be many hidden eyes on him.

Currently, he had only made an agreement with the Bureau, and neither side fully trusted the other. As for what would happen next, it was a step-by-step process.

However, Su Muluo wasn’t afraid of those people; at most, he found them troublesome. He looked down at Little Black Dragon, poked it and said, “Look at you, a little troublemaker.”

Little Black Dragon whined in response, then hugged its own Phoenix’s hand.

Su Muluo patted its head, took out his phone, and messaged the coffee shop owner to inform him that he had decided to rent the coffee shop. Since he could only collect his ID card the next day, they agreed to meet again tomorrow afternoon.

With the coffee shop plan settled, Su Muluo opened the supernatural beings forum he had visited the day before and entered one of its sections.

While browsing the forum yesterday to find a quicker way to obtain his ID card, he had stumbled upon a special section for supernatural beings seeking assistance.

In this section, supernatural beings could post requests to hire other supernatural beings for various tasks. For example, if they had been mistreated by a powerful demon and needed help retaliating, or if they had a deep-seated grudge with another supernatural being and wanted someone to resolve the conflict… Although supernatural beings couldn’t harm humans, disputes among supernatural beings were left unchecked.

Moreover, due to the hiring nature of these requests, the compensation offered was usually quite substantial. Su Muluo even thought that if the coffee shop didn’t do well, he could take on some challenging tasks and, in addition to receiving compensation, ask the client to visit his coffee shop and help with free publicity.

If he couldn’t earn human money, he would earn supernatural being money. After all, it was all about making money!

Thinking of this, Su Muluo was brimming with confidence. He said to Little Black Dragon, “Once we start making money, we can buy a big house.”

He had spent a few days in the human city and had begun to like it. He was willing to stay longer, and buying a new house with money he earned would be quite satisfying.

Little Black Dragon whined and made a sound of agreement. Su Muluo watched it crawl up his sleeve and perch there, observing as the Phoenix made a beef stew.

Although this was the first time he was formally cooking in the past few days, Su Muluo learned quickly. After reading the recipe once, he was able to get started. After more than twenty minutes in the kitchen, a bowl of beef stew was ready.

The color was a bit strange, but other than that, everything seemed fine.

Little Black Dragon: “…”

Su Muluo said, “Don’t you want to try it?”

Little Black Dragon glanced at the peculiar-looking bowl of beef stew, then back at Su Muluo. Su Muluo urged, “It smells really good. Won’t you try it?” He pushed the bowl toward Little Black Dragon.

Little Black Dragon: “…”

Little Black Dragon reluctantly made a soft sound, then slowly lowered its head and took a sip of the beef stew.

And then, it took another sip.

Surprisingly, it was delicious!

Little Black Dragon was exceptionally thrilled, burying its head in the bowl, drinking with its tail wagging and its deep golden dragon pupils narrowing in satisfaction.

Su Muluo raised an eyebrow, looking at the tiny wagging tip of Little Black Dragon’s tail and couldn’t resist reaching out to touch it.

Then Little Black Dragon retracted its tail.

Su Muluo: “?”

He said, “Can’t you let me touch it?”

Little Black Dragon protested.

Su Muluo said, “Just once, a little touch.”

Little Black Dragon hugged its tail tip tightly.

Su Muluo: “…Tsk, so stingy.”

And he took the beef stew away.

Little Black Dragon: “???”

Su Muluo said, “It’s because you didn’t let me touch your tail.”

But despite what he said, he wouldn’t let Little Black Dragon go hungry, so he brought the beef stew back.

Little Black Dragon stared at him for a few seconds, then discreetly hid the tip of its tail, continuing to drink the soup.

The amount of beef stew was generous, and after finishing a bowl, Little Black Dragon’s belly was round, and it lay on Su Muluo’s palm, letting out a small satisfied burp.

Su Muluo rubbed its belly, and Little Black Dragon made a contented sound, snuggling affectionately in his hand.

Su Muluo watched this little dragon for a while, and a smile crept onto his lips. “So, you need to grow up quickly. When I was born, I was even bigger than you.”

Little Black Dragon grumbled and buried its head in Su Muluo’s hand, pretending it hadn’t heard.

During the night, Su Muluo took a bath and returned to bed. He saw Little Black Dragon crawl out from under the blanket. When he had entered the bathroom, it had even tried to hide in his pajamas and accompany him, but he unceremoniously pulled it out and tossed it onto the bed.

Su Muluo lay down under the cozy covers, watching Little Black Dragon curl up happily beside him. He thought for a moment and said, “I feel like you shouldn’t sleep beside me. What if I accidentally roll over and squash you? After all, you’re just a small dragon, and it could be dangerous.”

Little Black Dragon immediately grabbed his fingers and let out a little sound, indicating that it wasn’t afraid of getting squashed.

Su Muluo, watching this, couldn’t help but feel like he was the one being taken advantage of. While he and this dragon were officially partners, they hadn’t gone through a formal bonding ceremony yet.

No ceremony but already cohabiting and even sleeping in his bed!

This couldn’t continue!

When he turned off the lights, Su Muluo thought about this.

And when he finally had the chance, he would make the dragon sleep on the couch.

With this thought in mind, Su Muluo closed his eyes and fell into a deep sleep.

—However, he didn’t know if it was because he had thought about Little Black Dragon before going to sleep, but he had another dream that night, a dream about the man with an obscured face but those deep golden eyes.

The man was once again sitting beside him. Though Su Muluo couldn’t see the man’s face, he could tell that the man was in a good mood, his intense gaze never leaving him.

Su Muluo didn’t want to see him, so he tried to move away. However, the man was faster and immediately grabbed his wrist.

Su Muluo: “Let go.”

“No,” the man’s voice contained a faint smile as he watched Su Muluo for a few seconds and then said, “Let me touch your feathers.”

Su Muluo: “?”

Were they close friends or something?

Was he crazy?

The man said, “Just a little touch.”

Su Muluo was cold and ruthless. “No, get away from me. I don’t want to talk to you.”

His feathers were delicate and precious; he couldn’t let anyone touch them casually.

Upon hearing this, the man clicked his tongue, then as if he had prepared for this moment, eagerly said the second part of his sentence, “So stingy.”

Su Muluo: “…”

He paused for a moment.

Suddenly, he realized why this phrase sounded so familiar.

The man continued, “Can’t even let me touch your feathers. So miserly.”

Su Muluo: “…”

Tsk.

The words he had once said were now being spoken by this person, and for a moment, he found it hard to argue.

Chapter 5 – The Black Ring

Chapter 5 – The Black Ring

When Gu Ruoqing arrived at “Where Spring Winds Seek,” the once vibrant brothel was now engulfed in roaring flames. The fire illuminated the night sky, and billowing smoke concealed the stars. The sound of burning wood crackled like fireworks, assaulting the eardrums.

People of all kinds swarmed around, trying to extinguish the fire. They ran and shouted, and desperate relatives cried outside, with a woman kneeling before a helpless doctor, begging him to save her husband.

Gu Ruoqing scanned the area but couldn’t find any trace of Yu Yang. He cursed silently.

Could it be that he hasn’t come out yet? With this blaze, he’ll be burnt alive sooner or later!

Gu Ruoqing suppressed his anxiety and unsheathed his sword, leaping onto the roof in a hurry and heading towards a section of the brothel where the fire was less intense.

He arrived just in time. Despite the intense blaze, the basic structure of the building had not started collapsing yet. There were pools of water splashed on the floor by people rushing in, and he endured the scorching heat as he began searching inside.

“Yu Yang!”

Covering his nose and mouth, he ran through the building, calling out. Gu Ruoqing’s voice, mingled with spiritual power, traveled far within the burning brothel.

“Yu Yang!” “Yu Yang!!”

He didn’t call out Le Lin’s name because he knew that Le Lin wouldn’t use her true name in the human world. He couldn’t even be sure if Yu Yang was using his real name now.

As the flames grew fiercer, suddenly, a burning beam of wood collapsed, and the entire second floor seemed on the verge of collapsing.

Gu Ruoqing swiftly evaded a piece of wood that almost crashed into his head. He searched through the ground floor’s main hall but, seeing the entire second floor about to collapse, he frowned deeply, stepped onto the burning staircase, and ascended.

Covering his mouth and nose, he pushed open door after door to look inside. Just as another burning beam nearly struck him, he pushed open a door and found a woman inside.

Alive.

The woman lifted her head upon hearing him.

She had an incredibly beautiful face, a breathtaking beauty that could be described as “a demon’s loveliness by the Xiang River.” Alluring, yet with a softness that pleased the eyes.

At this moment, the woman was sitting calmly in the center of the room, cradling a boy of about five in her arms. She gently stroked the boy’s hair, gazing peacefully at the roaring flames outside the window, as though she were appreciating the beauty of spring.

Gu Ruoqing was astonished for a moment at the door. He recognized the boy in her arms as Yu Yang.

In an instant, he knew who the woman was—Yu Yang’s mother, Le Lin.

A woman who had sacrificed herself for a Demon Lord, bringing devastation to the world.

The original work didn’t mention Le Lin much, and Gu Ruoqing’s strongest impression of her was that she was strangled to death by Yu Yang while completely controlled by a demonic influence.

At the time, Le Lin was completely possessed by a demonic nature, bloodthirsty and murderous. She laughed and cried as she told Yu Yang that he was the son of her and Yun Sifeng and even called Yu Yang a “mixed-breed,” instantly pushing Yu Yang into darkness.

So, Yu Yang strangled Le Lin to death, and to ensure she wouldn’t reincarnate, he personally crushed Le Lin’s demonic pearl, condemning her to never have another life.

In Gu Ruoqing’s view, Le Lin should have been a bewitching, mysterious, and dangerous demon, but he had never imagined that the real Le Lin would be so serene and graceful, as if she were the gentle sound of raindrops falling in a pond.

Le Lin also seemed to be scrutinizing the man who had suddenly entered.

She gazed at Gu Ruoqing, her beautiful eyes trembling uncontrollably.

After a long pause, she suddenly smiled and said, “It’s you.”

“Are you here to take him away?”

With that, she gazed tenderly at the boy sleeping in her arms.

This was his first time seeing Yu Yang’s face. Indeed, the antagonist was just that—a true antagonist, second only to the male lead. His appearance was remarkable.

Even as a child, his features were striking, and as he grew older, he became a charismatic and handsome man.

Gu Ruoqing couldn’t resist reaching out, as if to pinch Yu Yang’s cheek, but then he noticed a black iron earring on Yu Yang’s right ear. For some reason, he withdrew his hand.

In the original story, the black earring worn by Yu Yang had a teardrop-sized blood jade on it. There was a well-known folk rumor that, five hundred years after the Immortal-Demon War, a tyrannical Demon Lord would be born, adorned with a black earring, who would revive the demon race and wreak havoc upon the world, causing widespread suffering.

Even nursery rhymes sang of this fearsome Demon Lord: “Black earring worn, blood tears fall, heaven and earth in darkness, the Demon Lord descends.”

In an instant, Gu Ruoqing recalled the memory of Yu Yang being pierced by his sword at the God-Demon Abyss. At that moment, the blood jade on this black earring seemed to drip like tears, igniting endless hatred in Yu Yang’s eyes.

But now, the black earring was still there, but where was the blood jade?

As Gu Ruoqing pondered, an elderly woman, who had been protected within a barrier, ran towards him.

“Immortal! Immortal!” The elderly woman suddenly knelt on the ground and wept, saying, “Please, Immortal, save my child! He just turned five today! Please, Immortal, save him!”

Others also rushed over, kneeling around Gu Ruoqing, crying out desperately. One man even banged his head until it bled, and a young girl clung to his leg, begging.

Desolation surrounded him.

Gu Ruoqing watched this scene of universal sorrow, feeling a deep unease in his heart.

Throughout history, whether in the wars between immortals and demons, the turmoil of the imperial court, or the conflicts of the martial world, it was always the common people who suffered.

“Everyone, please…”

He was about to speak but was silenced again by a chorus of crying and pleas.

Gu Ruoqing, as a person, appeared aloof and cold, seemingly distant from human emotions. In reality, he was simply bad with words. He wouldn’t argue or defend himself when others scolded or accused him, he just listened and endured it, at most observing the spectacle like a detached observer.

However, when people turned to him for help, cried out to him, he struggled to find the right words to console them, and ultimately, he would act silently to lend assistance in any way he could.

In this regard, Gu Ruoqing, whether before or after his transmigration, whether as a kindergarten teacher or an immortal shizun, hadn’t improved a bit.

Just as he was about to ask everyone to stand up, he suddenly heard someone in the crowd pointing at Yu Yang in his arms in panic and shouting, “Black earring! That child has a black earring on his ear!”

Chapter 67 – Household registration

Chapter 67 – Household registration

But this was their own matter, and Jian Luo didn’t feel like commenting on it.

At their table, there was also a child, probably Jian Sheng’s good friend, who was struggling with folding paper on his own. Jian Sheng said, “Brother, let me teach him.”

Jian Luo shrugged, “It’s up to you.”

Jian Luo was quite pleased that Jian Sheng was getting along with his little friend. After all, kids were supposed to have fun.

Jian Sheng tried to teach for a while, but it was clear that he was planning to make origami with his friend. Unfortunately, he lacked experience and didn’t even know how to cut the paper properly. He had to turn to Jian Luo for help.

Jian Luo understood the situation, stood up, and walked over. “What’s wrong?”

Jian Sheng held up a piece of paper and said, “Why can’t I fold the paper into stars?”

It was a somewhat irregular and soft sheet of paper. Jian Luo quickly understood where the problem was. He bent down, sat next to the two kids, and said as he adjusted the size of the paper, “When folding paper, it’s generally better to use not too soft paper; otherwise, it won’t fold well. Also, stars usually have elongated shapes, so the paper shouldn’t be too wide, or it won’t fold nicely.”

The Dark Stars’ child seemed a bit uncomfortable with the adult’s presence. Jian Luo noticed this and moved a bit further away, then he placed the well-folded stars on the table. “There, like this.”

When choosing paper, he picked a golden one, and the small stars he folded also shone brilliantly under the light, looking very attractive. The little stars stood on the table, and the children liked this unusual plaything.

Jian Sheng opened his mouth in amazement. “It’s beautiful.”

His friend, who appeared to be a quiet boy, also whispered, “Beautiful.”

Jian Luo was also satisfied. “Yes, very pretty!”

Both children nodded, but it would be quite challenging for them to learn. Luckily, Jian Luo was patient and willing to explain to the kids.

They were sitting at the front of the classroom, and naturally, others noticed what they were doing. Originally, most of the kids were in their own world in the class, and it was unlikely they would engage in such handicrafts. However, when they saw Jian Luo quickly creating a craftwork, it seemed so effortless!

The first one who couldn’t resist was a Dragonkin, as they had a keen sense of the dragon aura, and Jian Luo naturally felt close to them.

“Teacher?” a Dragonkin girl approached, smiling and bending down. “I saw you were doing handicrafts, can I learn too?”

Jian Luo recognized the Dragonkin and promptly agreed, “Of course!”

The Dragonkin girl’s child, a golden-haired boy, came with her. She introduced him, saying, “I brought little Kai here to learn with me.”

Jian Luo nodded and complimented, “Your son is adorable.”

The Dragonkin girl brought a chair and sat down, then shook her head, “Oh, he’s not my son; he’s my comrade’s child.”

Jian Luo was surprised. “Oh, isn’t your partner a Dragonkin too? I didn’t know.”

The girl smiled shyly, “No, my partner isn’t a Dragonkin. He passed away, but before he did, he donated his genetic material, and this is his clone. Since the child is still young, I’m taking care of him.”

Jian Luo nodded thoughtfully.

They gathered together to make crafts, and because they had colored paper, the stars they folded were colorful and beautiful.

Other children in the classroom were also attracted to what they were doing. They were curious and came over to take a look. Some children were more obvious, moving closer to observe, while others were more reserved and watched from a distance.

Jian Luo signaled to Jian Sheng.

Jian Sheng understood immediately and approached a classmate who had come closer. “Do you want to join us?”

The child hesitated, torn between the fact that Jian Luo was from a different species and the allure of the beautiful stars. Jian Sheng didn’t rush him.

After all, creating handicrafts like this was a matter of the heart. Most importantly, they all enjoyed themselves. Jian Luo and Jian Sheng created a joyful atmosphere in the classroom, and soon, many children couldn’t resist joining in the fun.

Especially Jian Luo, he loved innovation.

Gradually, cutting flowers didn’t satisfy him anymore, so he started cutting dragons and phoenixes. These were the aristocratic crafts, and many children from prominent families made them.

The children couldn’t resist it any longer.

“Class monitor, can I learn to cut phoenixes?”

“I want to cut flowers.”

“This dragon looks so cool…”

The exclusion among the humans was relatively shallow among the kids. Older children didn’t have as many worldly concerns, and if something was fun, they would all come over to watch.

When the homeroom teacher arrived, the classroom was lively and bustling, a scene they hadn’t seen in a long time. In previous years, the school meetings were always silent. Not to mention the school meetings, even during regular breaks, there weren’t many children gathered together so enthusiastically.

Jian Sheng remembered the last time it was this lively; it was when Jian Luo transferred to this school. He brought potato pancakes to share with everyone, being the first human child in the school. He was warm, generous, and actively involved with everyone. He was like a flame that lit up the whole class, breaking the stereotypical impression of humans.

So, the homeroom teacher had chosen Jian Sheng as the class monitor back then. This child had shown a surprising sense of responsibility and ability, shattering the conventional image of humans.

“Uh, have all the crafts been completed?” the homeroom teacher coughed lightly. “If they are, please hand them in. We’ll need to get them evaluated.”

The paper cutting and small stars were colorful and beautiful, and the children brought them up one by one.

Jian Luo casually asked his younger brother, “What are they being evaluated for?”

“Oh, our school is going to participate in a joint sports event with other schools soon, and there will be evaluations. The classes with high scores get to participate in the sports events,” Jian Sheng explained. “There are many criteria for evaluation, and this performance at the school meeting is one of them.”

Jian Luo seemed to understand. “So, how are they being evaluated?”

Jian Sheng patiently explained, “Through voting. For example, we just did handicrafts, right? There are online polls on the school intranet. The class or individual with the most votes gets to participate in the sports event.”

Jian Luo propped up his chin. “Is it really that important to participate in the sports event?”

Jian Sheng was taken aback, looking at Jian Luo in surprise. After all, most educated people knew about this kind of thing, but Jian Luo’s ignorance was unexpected. He explained kindly, “Yes, it’s important. These things count as bonus points when you graduate, and the school may also allocate good positions based on this.”

This was interesting. Jian Luo suddenly became interested. “What’s your vote count? I’ll vote for you.”

Jian Sheng felt a bit embarrassed but provided the link to the intranet. “I have 13 votes now.”

The website displayed the rankings differently, and Jian Sheng had very few votes. There were already some real-time comments below:

“It looks pretty good. Did a human make this?”

“The work is nice. Is it made by a human?”

Of course, there were some friendly comments too:

“It looks great. Beautiful.”

“Your class did well in this school meeting.”

Jian Luo looked at his younger brother’s meager vote count and quickly noticed something suspicious. He pointed at one person on the list, “This person only has 5 votes. How come they’re so high on the list?”

With a total of a thousand pages, Jian Sheng and their class were on page eight hundred. This person with only 5 votes was somehow floating around page five hundred. Did that make any sense?

Jian Sheng explained patiently, “It depends on the weight of the voting accounts. The Dark Stars have account tiers, ABCD, and then the nobles have SSR tier accounts. This classmate, even though they only have 6 votes, has a relative with an SSR account who voted for them.”

Jian Luo clicked on that classmate’s work, which was quite lackluster compared to their class’s beautiful crafts. He realized that despite their hard work, their class was being surpassed just because a noble gave a like.

Jian Sheng comforted Jian Luo, “It’s okay, brother. I’m used to this unfair weighting system. Our class is used to it too.”

The Dark Stars had strict tier divisions, and classes also had tiers. Jian Sheng’s class was in the lowest tier, F class. The better the class, the higher the weighted accounts of their relatives and friends. So, F class was usually left in the dust.

The homeroom teacher said, “Our ranking is quite high this time. There might be a chance to participate in the sports event!”

Jian Luo looked up. The screen displayed Jian Sheng’s score, and after the paper cutting and origami, it quickly climbed into the top two hundred.

Jian Sheng’s eyes sparkled. “We have 200 votes!”

Initially, the children hadn’t held much hope, but the sudden increase in their ranking gave many of them hope. Several teachers were also excited. Just as the school meeting was about to end, the screen ranking started changing again.

F class was pushed down with just 80 votes.

It was a matter of account weight; nobles had voted.

The entire class fell silent.

Jian Luo sat in his chair, chin resting on his hand, pondering for a moment. “It’s time to leverage some connections…”

In this day and age, who didn’t have some influential connections?

Chapter 82 – Who Says Omegas Can’t be as Explosive as Alphas

Chapter 82

Lu Kongbin nearly drew his sword on the spot. Wen Muqiao, witnessing how Lu Kongbin treated his own son, felt displeased. “Even though our family is prestigious, and I’m accompanying your kid, how am I mistreating you?”

Lu Kongbin snorted, “Prestigious? I don’t care!”

Seeing the confrontation escalating, Lu Jingning gently tugged at Lu Kongbin’s sleeve and said, “Dad, let’s talk about this when we get home.”

Lu Kongbin was on the verge of fainting right there. How could his son plan to spend his life with that guy and tell him to discuss it later? Could he endure this?

He took a deep breath and was about to speak again when Wen Muqiao interjected, “If there’s anything, we can talk in the reception room.”

All the attention in the banquet hall was now focused on them. It wouldn’t do if they were to quarrel here; it would bring disgrace to the Wen family.

Lu Kongbin, feeling increasingly irritated, snapped, “Wen Muqiao, coming here with you already shows some face! I’ll say it plainly: my son Ning is my most precious treasure. Want him to marry into your Wen family? Ha! Not in a million years!”

Wen Muqiao’s face darkened. He couldn’t believe Wen Xingchen’s father was so audacious. But he tried to keep a diplomatic tone and said, “Lu, this is an affair between young people. It’s their business. If you have an issue, why not take it up with me directly instead of involving the children?”

Lu Kongbin couldn’t believe Wen Muqiao’s hypocrisy at such a crucial moment. He laughed out loud and retorted, “Young people my ass! They don’t know a thing! They haven’t even grown their pubic hair, yet you think they understand the dangers of the world? With how you, Wen vase, change lovers every now and then, my son can be with anyone, but he will never be involved with your Wen family!”

Wen Muqiao’s face turned green. Did Lu Kongbin really think they were desperate to have someone from the Lu family?

But when he thought about the Omega Wen Xingchen had taken a fancy to, he couldn’t help feeling distressed. He glanced at him and said, “Lu, do you even know how many people would kill to marry into our Wen family?”

Lu Kongbin smirked, “So what? Just you alone are enough to satisfy quite a few people’s fantasies, right?”

Wen Muqiao snapped back, “Stop pretending to be so righteous!”

Lu Kongbin retorted, “Righteousness? Have you ever known what that means?”

As the argument became more intense, Wen Xingchen couldn’t sit idly anymore. He sent a silent message to Wen Muqiao, urging him to be cautious and not to provoke Lu Kongbin too much.

Wen Muqiao’s face turned even greener. Did Wen Xingchen really think he meant that? Even if he had a chaotic love life, he had principles! There was no way he would get involved with the Omega his son was interested in.

Angrily biting his teeth, Wen Muqiao said, “Lu, do you know how many people want to enter our Wen family?”

Lu Kongbin sneered, “Hmph, what difference does it make? You alone are enough to make quite a few people happy.”

Wen Muqiao replied, “You shameless person!”

Lu Kongbin retorted, “Shame? Do you know the meaning of shame?”

As they argued more fiercely, Wen Xingchen couldn’t bear it anymore and interjected, “Lu uncle, please believe me. I will treat Lu Jingning well.”

Lu Kongbin coldly laughed, “Isn’t that what every scumbag says at the beginning? When you were young, you were much smoother with your words than your son.”

Wen Xingchen calmly said, “I can swear that, no matter what happens, except for Lu Jingning, I will never mark any other Omega in my life.”

Lu Kongbin, feeling a little taken aback by the seriousness in his words, paused for a moment. Then, as if having a sudden realization, he almost broke the table in front of him. “Are you saying that you’ve already marked each other?!!!”

Not only were they marked, they were also very deeply involved.

However, seeing Lu Kongbin’s exaggerated reaction, Wen Xingchen fell silent. He instinctively felt it might be better not to bring up such important matters at this time.

Overwhelmed by this new piece of information, Lu Kongbin’s face turned pale. He suddenly felt dizzy upon learning that the cabbage he raised was taken by a pig, and that pig was surnamed Wen!

My precious son, he actually… he actually?!!!

Beside them, Yu Zhi had been eating melon seeds while watching the drama unfold. Hearing this explosive piece of news, she couldn’t help but exclaim, “Wow!”

She turned her head and looked at Wen Xingchen with a satisfied expression.

Initially, Wen Xingchen was worried that his dissatisfaction with his father might affect his ability to love, but when it came to emotions, he dealt with the situation swiftly and decisively. Well done, my son, you’ve grown up!

Seeing the situation develop this way, Lu Jingning couldn’t bear it anymore. He couldn’t help but send a mournful look to Wen Xingchen. How could Wen Xingchen be so reckless? If he kept provoking Lu Kongbin, he might end up losing his lover’s life before they even got married.

Wen Xingchen noticed Lu Kongbin’s wandering eyes searching for a weapon, and he quickly placed a hand on Lu Kongbin’s arm, trying to calm him down. He then smiled and spoke in a sweet tone, “Dad, you’re right. I’m still young, and it’s too early to consider marriage. Let’s stop talking about it for now. Come on, let’s go home.”

He pulled Lu Kongbin up and started walking towards the door. As they passed Wen Muqiao, he paused slightly, saying, “Uncle Wen, thank you for your kindness. Marriage is a matter between two families. Today, I came to celebrate Wen Xingchen’s birthday, not to get engaged. Let’s put this matter on hold for now. My dad has just returned, and I haven’t had a chance to discuss it with him yet. In the end, his decision will be final. Do you understand?”

Although on the surface, he refused the engagement to save Lu Kongbin’s face, there was an underlying message in his words—hey, I haven’t even had the chance to convince my dad yet. So don’t be so hasty! When I find an opportunity to please him and make him comfortable, then you can come and visit, and we won’t have to quarrel like this with red faces and thick necks. You’re a smart person; you should know how to choose, right?

Wen Muqiao, who initially had an impression of Wen Xingchen as “the Omega Wen Xingchen liked,” saw him gracefully defuse the awkward situation, and his expression softened slightly. He gave a deep “hmm” and said, “Then I won’t send you off.”

“Tch, like I care if you send us off?” Lu Kongbin clearly had grievances with Wen Muqiao’s sour expression. He didn’t forget to threaten Wen Xingchen, “Kid, stay away from my Ning!”

He had wanted to say a few more things, but Lu Jingning dragged him away, and they disappeared from the room.

Wen Xingchen watched their figures vanish, and rather than feeling relieved for surviving the ordeal, he felt low-spirited. He felt like he had accidentally entered a game with a high difficulty level, and if possible, he wanted to start all over again.

Looking at Lu Kongbin’s expression just now, he was worried about the trouble Lu Jingning might face when he returned home.

A gentle hand patted his shoulder, and Yu Zhi’s voice came from behind, “Xingchen, good choice! I really like this Lu Jingning.”

Hearing such approval, a faint smile finally appeared on Wen Xingchen’s face. “I’m glad you like him.”

Wen Muqiao soon returned to the hall to continue socializing, and Yu Zhi left with her. Wen Xingchen stayed in the reception room for a while, then stood up with an indifferent expression. Unexpectedly, just as he reached the door, Lu Jingning’s beaming smile appeared before him. “What’s going on, Wen-ge? How can you not be happy on your birthday?”

Wen Xingchen didn’t expect Lu Jingning to come back again after leaving. His eyes subconsciously glanced behind him.

“Don’t look. I came up with an excuse to slip out. I need to go back soon; Lao Lu is waiting for me on the light cruiser!” Lu Jingning explained, panting slightly, though there was a hint of playfulness in his voice.

When he met Wen Xingchen’s inquiring gaze, Lu Jingning magically pulled out a well-prepared gift and handed it over. “I forgot to tell you earlier, happy birthday, Wen-ge!”

Wen Xingchen had never expected that someone like Lu Jingning would use such an old-fashioned way of sending a letter—a love letter—on his birthday. Lu Jingning’s writing, just like his personality, was bold and unrestrained. It was evident that he wasn’t good at this kind of thing, but to show his sincerity, every word of flattery was clearly the result of his lifetime literary cultivation.

Wen Xingchen couldn’t help blushing at such an exaggerated expression of love. He mumbled to himself, “What is this…”

Although he complained, Wen Xingchen couldn’t help but read each word with a gentle smile.

At the bottom of the letter, there were some differently colored large characters, apparently added just now.

—Oh, Wen-ge, my stubborn temper is not easy to deal with. I’m afraid I can’t handle it alone. With you being so popular and charming, like a hotshot, and irresistible to both men and women, you must accompany me to improve my favorability towards you, you know!!!

Do you even need to ask? Of course, I’m very willing.

Author’s note:

Unfortunately, you can’t just increase favorability whenever you want. Poor little Omega, there are two other brothers to deal with.~^O^
