Chapter 66 – Who Says Omegas Can’t be as Explosive as Alphas

Chapter 66

After returning, Lu Jingning slept in the dormitory for two days, shrouded in darkness, until the third day when his excessive sleepiness had slightly eased, he finally appeared in the classroom.

He piled up some books collected from other students around him before hiding behind them and shutting his eyes.

Yes, basically, he was just changing the location of his naps.

Before going to sleep, he didn’t forget to greet Wen Xingchen, “Wen Ge, please keep a look out on the teacher for me!”

Jiang Luan couldn’t help but tease him, “Lu Jingning, you seem to be quite good at bossing Wen Xingchen around?”

Lu Jingning didn’t even lift his eyelids and replied, “Whether I’m good at it or not, you should ask Wen Ge if he’s happy being bossed around.”

Wen Xingchen smiled slightly, “I’m quite happy. It’s not bad if you boss me around more in the future.”

Jiang Luan: “…”

Although there was no evidence, based on his more than ten years of experience in the world of romance, how could he not sense a feeling of ‘when the wife sings, the husband just follows’ in their conversation?

Perhaps Wen Xingchen covered for him well, or perhaps it was because the teacher had gotten into the habit of turning a blind eye; for the rest of the class, the teacher didn’t even look at Lu Jingning after that. When the bell rang, he left with his books.

The morning class ended very smoothly.

Before the students could get up, the counselor walked in from outside, clapped his hands, and signaled them to sit down. “Everyone, please wait for a moment. There’s an announcement. Starting from this afternoon, the school will arrange ships to send everyone away, so please pack your luggage as soon as you return to the temporary dormitory and don’t miss the scheduled departures.”

After all, some time had passed and the overall reconstruction work of the Imperial Navy University had been completed. The temporary campus that had been assigned to the students would naturally be returned to the military.

Lu Jingning heard this news dazely, rubbed his eyes, and yawned, “They repaired it so quickly after it was damaged like that?”

Jiang Luan said, “Don’t you know? The Imperial Government attached great importance to this incident. After we moved out, they immediately deployed troops to take over. Regarding the campus, they even directly implemented the construction project, so of course, it’s enough time to finish.”

“Troops taking over?” Lu Jingning instantly woke up after hearing these four words. “Is it true?”

“Of course, it’s true!” Jiang Luan was quite dissatisfied with his obvious skepticism. “Do you not trust the source of my information?”

Lu Jingning ran his hand through his hair in a messy manner. “It’s not like that. It’s just…why would they deploy troops for the reconstruction of the campus?”

Jiang Luan was taken aback for a moment, then said in a muffled voice, “This question, you should ask the Imperial Government!”

To be honest, when the space pirates launched a sudden attack, Lu Jingning had a vague sense that something was amiss.

Not to mention how these pirate warships had stealthily avoided the military’s monitoring and approached the campus. Just the spatial signal gates that allowed them to achieve long-distance transmission weren’t something destitute space pirates could possess.

He always felt that this was just the prelude to some event that was quietly unfolding in the background.

He frowned, but didn’t voice his doubts. When he looked up, he noticed that Wen Xingchen seemed to be lost in thought as well.

Noticing his gaze, Wen Xingchen raised his eyelashes slightly and said, “We’ll know when we go back to the campus.”

Yan Hebin didn’t have classes today. By the time Lu Jingning returned, they had already packed their things and saw him bustling around. They couldn’t help but express some camaraderie and helped him with the packing.

After everything in the room was sorted out, Lu Jingning carried a pile of boxes down the stairs, one on each side. There were still several small boxes on top of a large suitcase, totaling six or seven in various sizes, but it didn’t affect his brisk pace.

Yan Hebin followed him with empty hands and couldn’t help but say, “You’ve just passed your heat, let me carry it myself.”

“How can that be!” Lu Jingning immediately refused without hesitation. “I’m Lu-ge, how can I let you weak Omegas do this kind of heavy lifting?”

Yan Hebin: “…”

Aren’t you an Omega too?

There were so many flaws in his argument, they didn’t even know where to start criticizing.

Because of the moving this time, there were quite a few Alpha figures busy helping with the luggage in the Omega temporary dormitory.

These Alphas were undoubtedly here to help with the luggage, and each of them was carrying several suitcases. This should have been a moment to show off their self-charm, but as soon as Lu Jingning appeared, he outshone everyone else and instantly overshadowed their performances.

One Alpha couldn’t help but joke, “Lu Jingning, your boyfriend power is off the charts!”

This sentence received unanimous praise from the surrounding Omegas, and someone even took advantage of the excitement, blushing, and gathered the courage to ask loudly, “Lu Ge, would you consider an Omega x Omega romance?”

After this opening, other Omegas seemed to be inspired one after another, and they began to confess one after another. The Alphas around couldn’t help but feel envious.

Lu Jingning couldn’t help but laugh in this atmosphere.

The gleam of the stars happened to fall on his golden hair, making him look exceptionally dazzling.

The Omegas couldn’t help but be dazzled, and they couldn’t help but scream again.

Some of the other Alphas were starting to feel uncomfortable.

Is his presence really that low-key?

Lu Jingning’s playful spirit was also piqued. He glanced at Yan Hebin next to him and provocatively curled his lips, “Uh, this is my roommate and manager. If you need anything, you can contact him.”

Yan Hebin held back for a moment but couldn’t hold it in and burst out, “Get lost.”

Lu Jingning blinked innocently, “Hey, Scholar, this won’t do. I helped you carry the boxes, others don’t have this kind of treatment!”

Omegas around: “Ahhh, Lu Ge, help me carry mine, I can!!!”

Lu Jingning smiled victoriously, “You see.”

Yan Hebin’s face darkened, and he was about to reach out and snatch, “Give me back the boxes.”

Lu Jingning agilely moved aside, originally just trying to avoid Yan Hebin, but unexpectedly, there was someone behind him.

After being tripped up, he instinctively tried to find a support to lean on, but someone’s hand reached out and pulled him over.

A very familiar voice came from above, half-smiling and somewhat ambiguous, “Lu Ge, you’re quite popular.”

The appearance of the newcomer made the surrounding area strangely quiet for a moment, then someone couldn’t help but cover their face and let out a low breath, and a few even secretly took a few pictures with their terminals.

What kind of divine scene is this, OMG!!!

Wen Xingchen had originally come to see if there was any need for help, but coincidentally, he happened to witness a massive pheromone release scene.

Lu Jingning at this time was almost leaning on Wen Xingchen’s body, staring into those deep eyes, and for a rare moment, he fell silent, “…”

There was a somewhat inexplicable feeling of a car crash happening on-site.

Fortunately, Wen Xingchen didn’t seem to have any intention of clinging to this topic. After helping him steady himself, he casually took the boxes from his hands, “We’re in the same class on the light cruiser, let’s go, don’t be late.”

After speaking, he glanced at Jiang Luan, who was standing by watching the show.

Jiang Luan, who had just come back to his senses, took the other boxes handed over by Wen Xingchen and smiled at Yan Hebin, “Classmate, let me help you carry them.”

“…”

Yan Hebin, seeing his luggage change hands in an instant, was too lazy to say anything.

As soon as Lu Jingning boarded the light cruiser, he received a communication from Yu Qingcang.

Coincidentally, Yu Qingcang was arranged in the first batch of departures, so he couldn’t come to Yan Hebin’s side to show off his strong Alpha side, which can be said to be very painful, and even through the communicator, you could feel his full sense of loss.

[Yu Qingcang: Have you departed yet? Heartbroken.jpg]

[Lu Jingning: Just boarded the ship. Have you arrived?]

[Yu Qingcang: Yeah, I’m here… I want to wait for you guys at the entrance for a while.]

[Lu Jingning: Forget it, buddy, it’s fate! It seems that heaven didn’t want to give you a chance to show off.]

[Yu Qingcang: Stop talking about it—! I hate it!!!]

Lu Jingning originally wanted to tell Yu Qingcang that Yan Hebin really wasn’t interested in him, out of concern for his childhood friend, and sincerely advised him to find a new target to pursue.

But when he thought about how this big guy was having feelings for the first time, he deleted and edited his message for a long time and still didn’t know how to send it out.

In the end, Lu Jingning sighed and deleted the entire content.

Forget it, there’s nothing wrong with youthful vigor!

Just as he was about to change the topic, another message from Yu Qingcang came in.

[Yu Qingcang: Lao Lu! Guess who I saw!]

[Lu Jingning: Who?]

[Yu Qingcang: Su Qian!]

[Lu Jingning: !!!]

Wen Xingchen noticed that Lu Jingning suddenly had a thick smile between his brows and couldn’t help but ask, “What’s making you so happy?”

Lu Jingning looked up, his eyes bright, and his lips couldn’t help but rise, “Yu Qingcang said my good buddy is coming to the school!”

“…,”

One had to admit that the term “good buddy” was very endearing.

Seeing Lu Jingning’s unusual happiness because of the appearance of another man, Wen Xingchen’s lips involuntarily curled down slightly, “You seem to have quite a few ‘good buddies.'”

Lu Jingning: “Well, I do have a few, but Su Qian is different.”

Wen Xingchen’s lips curled up faintly, “Oh? What’s different about him?”

Lu Jingning wrinkled his brows, thinking for a moment, but he didn’t know how to describe it.

Wen Xingchen’s gaze swept over him as he thought deeply, then suddenly leaned in.

Lu Jingning’s words, which were halfway through being prepared, suddenly got stuck in his throat. He opened his mouth, “What… what are you doing?”

Wen Xingchen reached out and grabbed his wrist, not answering but getting even closer.

Their breaths instantly merged.

They were sitting in the last row of the light cruiser, and it was about to depart, so no one noticed what was happening here.

Lu Jingning roughly guessed Wen Xingchen’s intention. In such a public place, he couldn’t help but stiffen his posture, “Don’t be ridiculous…”

Before he could finish speaking, the response he got was the soft touch of another’s lips covering his.

Around them were the hushed voices of others, and Lu Jingning was somewhat surprised by this sudden surprise. He also felt like he was burning up.

Just at this moment, Jiang Luan in the front row happened to turn around, “Hey, can’t you guys…”

When he saw the scene in the back row, his words suddenly came to a halt.

His expression was extraordinarily vivid.

Lu Jingning heard Jiang Luan’s voice and instinctively tried to push Wen Xingchen away, but he was firmly held in place.

He was afraid that making a big scene would attract the attention of others, so he could only widen his eyes and glare at Jiang Luan.

However, Wen Xingchen paid no attention to him and only gave Jiang Luan a strange look.

For some reason, Jiang Luan seemed to read a life-threatening threat from this short glance.

Out of a survival instinct, he immediately turned back without looking to the side.

Lu Jingning couldn’t help but curse inwardly: Damn it?!!!

After a while, Wen Xingchen finally let go of him.

Lu Jingning’s breathing was slightly heavy as he looked at the guy in front of him who was tidying up his slightly disheveled clothes. He rubbed his somewhat swollen lips and clenched his teeth, “What the hell are you doing!”

Wen Xingchen reached out to smooth out the wrinkles on his shoulder and said slowly after a while, “My boyfriend is too flirtatious, and I don’t feel secure. So I decided to put a leash on him first.”

Lu Jingning: “???”

Author’s note: Alright, it seems that Lu Jingning is attracting quite a bit of attention. Let’s give him a new title, like “Emperor of Jealousy, Wen Xingchen.”

Chapter 34 – Replica

Chapter 34: A New Earth

Lin Changyu said that the first time he saw Tan Xilu was on a rainy day.

Lin Changyu really hated rain. The continuous, damp raindrops shattered on the ground, making the entire city wet and gloomy. The sky turned dark, accompanied by occasional raging winds, always causing irritation. Most importantly, Lin Changyu had spent most of the rainy days before escaping from that home enduring violent beatings from a man.

Raindrops hit the glass with a “bang,” and the man’s slaps followed suit. Lin Changyu was frail, and each blow left a ringing in his ears. The man seemed like a crazed monster trying to crush him. Thunder roared, and Lin Changyu was lifted and kicked down the stairs. In the pitch-black basement, within five minutes, the cries of children would fill the air. Lin Xiaozhi would hold him, saying, “Brother, I’m scared.”

The basement door was closed, leaving only a small window. Outside, raindrops pattered, and inside, the cries were miserable.

Children feared the dark and pain, clutching Lin Changyu’s clothes, asking, “Brother, I miss Mom.”

Tired of comforting the vulnerable child, Lin Changyu, he said, “Mom will come back at night.”

But the inadequate mother didn’t return that night. In the pitch-black basement, the two children heard the man in the living room on the phone, angrily scolding, “It’s just a beauty salon. Can’t you manage without it? You’re not even coming home at night?”

The man’s irritability turned into violence on that rainy night. He kicked open the basement door and vented his frustration on the two children with a long wooden stick.

Escape, escape from here.

Lin Changyu thought when he saw Lin Manling ignoring his beatings.

I can’t go on like this.

He began to plan a route; he wanted to find a safe place; he wanted to live alone.

The air during the rainy season was damp, green moss climbed on the stone slabs, and his worn-out canvas shoes made his steps slippery. Lin Changyu almost fell and had to grab a nearby pillar. When he looked up, he saw a teenager on the opposite basketball court, sweating profusely.

Lin Changyu was skilled at disguising himself. Despite several scars hidden under long sleeves, he could always put on a smile, making others think he was happy.

Qin Sizhe thought the same way, so he was completely unguarded when Lin Changyu intruded into his life.

Lin Changyu entered through a side door and said to the teenager in the rain, “Can you teach me how to play basketball?”

Lin Changyu had a plan. The truly energetic teenager was very kind, so Qin Sizhe naturally agreed. He taught Lin Changyu how to dribble, how to slam dunk, and how to avoid dirty tricks from other players.

In exchange, Lin Changyu became Qin Sizhe’s confidant, listening to the troubles that bothered him.

Qin Sizhe said he had a crush on someone, but that person wouldn’t like him. He didn’t know what to do. He used to have a bad temper, but he was willing to change for that person.

Lin Changyu had only seen Qin Sizhe’s good-natured side, and he was curious about the boy’s past. But only the person Qin Sizhe liked had seen it.

Lin Changyu didn’t even realize that he was beginning to feel jealous of that man.

The day Lin Changyu and Tan Xilu were in the office together was actually Lin Changyu’s idea. He regretted it afterward, realizing he shouldn’t have taken that risk.

Falling in love with Tan Xilu was something he hadn’t anticipated. But once it happened, a dark flower of obsession blossomed in his heart. He wanted to sever the ties between them, yet at the same time, he desired to get closer.

He leaned against the office desk, enduring the pain in his lower back from the corner of the desk.

Tan Xilu looked at him, his eyes filled with innocence, no hint of suspicion. He asked, “Is it really going to work? Will Chi Yexing really come?”

“As long as he’s even a little concerned about you, he’ll definitely come,” Lin Changyu replied with a smile.

The plan was Lin Changyu’s idea. He knew that Tan Xilu was unwilling to stay in unrequited love, and his feelings for Chi Yexing were too overwhelming. He couldn’t control himself; he wanted to touch this person, to kiss them. But before they could be together, none of these things were possible.

So he came up with this plan: he and Tan Xilu would engage in intimate actions in the office, and if someone happened to witness it, they would report it to their parents.

They wanted to gauge Chi Yexing’s reaction and see if he would get jealous.

In reality, it was a rather foolish idea. They couldn’t guarantee that Chi Yexing would actually come because of Tan Xilu, and they couldn’t predict the consequences. If Chi Yexing did get jealous and Tan Xilu confessed, it might end well. But what if he didn’t? Chi Yexing might think that Tan Xilu was behaving immaturely in the school office, which could be repulsive.

But Tan Xilu couldn’t control his emotions anymore; his feelings had clouded his judgment.

Lin Changyu looked at Tan Xilu in front of him, their proximity so close. With just a bit more initiative, he could kiss him.

He heard footsteps in the corridor, someone was approaching. On a whim, he thought, this might be their only chance. Suddenly, he grasped Tan Xilu’s waist tightly and rashly pressed his lips against his. Outside the office, someone cursed loudly, and he heard the sound of a camera shutter.

Startled, Tan Xilu pushed him away, staring at him in bewilderment. He asked, “What are you doing?”

It was an overcast day today, but there was no rain. The afternoon wind swept through the room, making them feel slightly cold. Lin Changyu stumbled back, his lower back, which had collided with the corner of the desk, starting to ache. He smiled provocatively and tore off his facade, replying to Tan Sizhe: “I’m kissing you.”

Seeing Tan Xilu’s slow reaction, he squinted his eyes and asked, “Hey, Tan Xilu, you can’t still not see that I like you, can you?”

Upon hearing this, Tan Xilu was dumbfounded.

Then he furrowed his brows and asked, “Was this also part of the plan?”

Lin Changyu: “…”

He said, “No.”

After a pause, he added, “Tan Xilu, someone took a photo just now.”

“What?” Tan Xilu was visibly stunned, then he realized that Lin Changyu was referring to the kiss he had just planted on him.

This was not part of their plan. Their plan had only involved hugging, and he didn’t know whether the person had captured the kiss on camera. If they had, it could be a tricky situation if the image got circulated around school.

After a moment of contemplation, Tan Xilu suddenly grabbed Lin Changyu’s hand and pushed him towards the door of the office, saying, “You need to leave the school quickly, avoid the school surveillance, use the back door, there’s a low wall there, climb over it.”

Lin Changyu was puzzled, not understanding what Tan Xilu meant. He asked, “What are you doing?”

He repeated the same question he had asked earlier.

Tan Xilu said, “I can’t drag you into this. Today’s mess is my fault, so I’ll take responsibility. You go first.”

Why was Tan Xilu blaming himself? Lin Changyu couldn’t comprehend his thought process. It was him who had initiated the kiss, so if anyone was to blame, it should be himself.

“Hurry up and go,” Tan Xilu’s voice suddenly grew louder, and he pushed Lin Changyu again. “Get out of here, or I won’t talk to you anymore.”

Lin Changyu always felt that Tan Xilu could be quite childish in some aspects. He was a grown-up, yet he was saying things like “I won’t talk to you anymore” at a time like this.

He glanced at Tan Xilu one last time and reluctantly headed outside.

Following Tan Xilu’s instructions, he climbed over the low wall at the back door.

As he landed on the other side, he saw a black car driving by, and the person inside was talking on the phone. It was a very handsome profile, one that Lin Changyu had seen countless times in Tan Xilu’s phone.

It was Chi Yexing. He had come to the school.

Sitting on the bleachers, he glanced at Tan Xilu sleeping peacefully on the floor and said to Tan Xilu, “I didn’t think the consequences would be so serious. If I had known, I wouldn’t have kissed him. I also didn’t expect that guy to be so ruthless. If he doesn’t like Tan Xilu, he could have just declined him. Was it necessary to crush his heart like that?”

“Teacher Tan, do you think it’s wrong to like someone?” Lin Changyu suddenly asked.

“Of course, there’s nothing wrong with liking someone,” Tan Xilu thought for a moment and added, “But when you like someone, it’s like putting an extra layer of shackles on your own heart. Just like Tan Xilu right now, even though he’s already hurting all over, he’s still willingly bound by those shackles. But in the end, when he finds the key to unlock those shackles, he’ll realize that liking someone isn’t all that important.”

“Yeah, when will Tan Xilu be able to unlock his own shackles?” Lin Changyu wondered. “Or perhaps, can I unlock my own?”

The setting sun’s residual radiance filtered through the window glass, creating a marvelous halo around the place where Tan Xilu lay. Lin Changyu stood up, walked over to Tan Xilu’s side, and looked at him for a long, long time. Finally, he gently tapped his shoulder, waking him up.

He said, “It’s time for you to go home.”

Tan Xilu was a bit groggy from his deep sleep. He hadn’t slept this well in a long time. He opened his eyes and saw Lin Changyu. Suddenly, he remembered that he had just cried in front of him and felt a bit embarrassed for no apparent reason. Then, he noticed Tang Xilu descending from the bleachers and he said, “Teacher Tan.”

Tang Xilu looked at him, patted his shoulder, and didn’t say anything.

Only Lin Changyu gave him a hug and finally kissed him on the cheek, saying, “Tan Xilu, go home.”

Tan Xilu looked at Lin Changyu as if he had read something in his eyes. Then, he nodded and said, “Okay.”

The mottled rays of the setting sun played on the memories of Tan Xilu’s heart as he left.

Chapter 33 – Replica

Chapter 33: Life (Part 2)

That night, when Xu Huaiming went to pick up Tan Xilu, he unexpectedly saw Lin Changyu, someone who shouldn’t have been there. Lin Changyu obediently followed behind Tan Xilu, not as assertive as usual. When he saw Xu Huaiming, he hesitated for a moment, then looked away.

Xu Huaiming’s gaze fell on Lin Changyu, and he asked, “Why is he here?”

Tan Xilu glanced at Lin Changyu, shook his head, and said to Xu Huaiming, “It’s a long story.”

After Tan Xilu finished his classes at four in the afternoon, he planned to leave work. However, Li Xuandie suddenly came to his office, saying she knew who the person was that she saw kissing Qin Sizhe in the office.

She was furious, clearly holding a strong grudge against the person who had been intimately involved with Qin Sizhe. She spoke with displeasure, “I don’t know how he dares to show his face here. Does he even realize how much Qin Sizhe suffered because of him, Professor Tan? They were in the gym, you need to go check it out.”

The gym was closed from 4 to 5 pm every day, usually for cleaning. Today, the cleaning staff left early, and Qin Sizhe happened to come to the gym.

After a hundred days of recovery, he had just started walking again and had come to school. The gym was empty, and the sound of his crutch scraping against the floor was piercingly loud. Qin Sizhe couldn’t stand it and angrily threw his crutch forward, then yelled out loudly.

He hated Qin Sizhe, truly hated him. Why was he treating him like this? Why did they have to get married so quickly? Did he find himself repulsive?

Qin Sizhe lay on the floor, remembering the first time he played basketball in front of Qin Sizhe. That man had patted his head and said, “You’re amazing.”

Qin Sizhe had never thought being good at basketball was something to be proud of, but when Qin Sizhe praised him, he was so happy that he almost forgot who he was. He even thought it was a good thing that he knew how to play basketball, a small quality that could match up to him. But in reality, Qin Sizhe didn’t need a boyfriend who could play basketball; he needed a good wife and mother.

Qin Sizhe was never within his criteria for choosing a partner; their sexual orientations were different.

Qin Sizhe took out his phone from his pocket. He realized that he couldn’t see the screen clearly and wiped his face, only to feel wetness on his cheeks. He had been crying.

It was his last chance, his very last chance. If that man came to see him, he would secretly love him, even if he got married and had children, he would love him forever. If he didn’t come, he would give up on him forever.

He dialed Chi Yexing’s number and spoke before the other person had a chance to say anything, “Chi Yexing, please don’t get married. I really like you. I won’t misbehave anymore, and I won’t make you angry. Please don’t be with other women, Chi Yexing, can you do that for me?”

“I really… really like you…”

“I won’t be picky anymore. Even though your fried noodles are really terrible, I can eat them. You’re so clumsy; you can’t even fix a TV. I’ll do the repairs from now on. You like watching cartoons, and I won’t call you childish. Actually, cartoons are quite enjoyable. I know you don’t like it when I eat durian, so

I won’t eat it anymore. As long as you’re happy.”

“Chi Yexing… You hurt me that day. Your kick really hurt, and I felt like my bones were broken. You’re so mean, but I still like you so much. Am I pathetic? My legs hurt so much now. Can you come see me? I’m at the school gym. I can play basketball for you, even though my legs will definitely hurt a lot, but as long as you like it, I can do it.”

Towards the end, Qin Sizhe’s voice was choked with tears. “I love you, I’m begging you, don’t leave me, okay?”

“I’m begging you…”

Qin Sizhe didn’t even have the courage to listen to the other person’s response and hung up the phone immediately.

He just wanted to take a chance, a chance that his feelings would receive some response.

But when he saw that it was Lin Changyu who came to the gym, the small flame of hope in his heart was extinguished completely.

He asked, “Why is it you?”

Lin Changyu walked over to him, squatted down, and looked down at him. “You called me. Qin Sizhe, you look really ugly when you cry. You’re making me lose respect for you.”

Qin Sizhe turned his head to look at him. Lin Changyu was squatting with the sun behind him, and it took a lot of effort for Qin Sizhe to see his face clearly. The light was blinding, and Qin Sizhe felt like his eyes hurt. He wiped his face and realized his cheeks were wet. He laughed self-mockingly, saying, “Yeah, I don’t even respect myself.”

How did he become like this?

“Never mind, cry if you want,” Lin Changyu lay down next to him and touched Qin Sizhe’s head, pulling him closer. “Cry as much as you want. If you ever stop liking him, you won’t need to cry anymore. You’ll eventually forget about him.”

When Tan Xilu arrived, he found the two of them lying together, and Qin Sizhe had cried himself to sleep. Lin Changyu was tightly holding his hand.

Hearing footsteps, Lin Changyu sat up. He was somewhat surprised to see that it was Tan Xilu. He knew that the girl, Li Xuandie, didn’t like him, and she might have gone to find a teacher. However, he didn’t care anymore. The last time, Qin Sizhe protected him and left together. This time, he had to step forward; he couldn’t let Qin Sizhe be bullied again.

“Professor Tan, it’s him,” Li Xuandie pointed at Lin Changyu, her beautiful eyes filled with disgust. She said, “Haven’t you always wanted to know who that person was in the office that day? It’s him.”

Tan Xilu was also shocked to see that it was Lin Changyu. He suddenly remembered that he had seen the clothes Lin Changyu was wearing once before, and now he realized that they matched the person in the photo from the forum, the one with Qin Sizhe in the office.

It explained why they couldn’t find this person; he wasn’t even a student here.

“All right, I understand,” Tan Xilu said to Li Xuandie, “You can go now. Don’t talk to anyone else about this. I’ll handle it.”

Li Xuandie exclaimed, “Huh?” It seemed her expected reaction hadn’t occurred. She had thought Tan Xilu would be very angry, but his attitude was unexpectedly calm. However, she also remembered that Tan Xilu had always handled things in a composed manner, so she nodded and left the gym.

These days, it kept snowing, and there was a fear of slippery roads and accidents. The bus schedule had been reduced, so a few people waited at the bus stop for ten minutes and only one taxi came by. They asked if anyone wanted to take it.

By now, it was quite late, and Lin Changyu was still just a kid, so Tan Xilu suggested they take the taxi.

Inside the taxi, they turned on the heater, and it was comfortably warm. Lin Changyu sat in the back, and Tan Xilu asked Xu Huaiming to sit in the front passenger seat.

After fastening their seatbelts and giving the driver the address, he responded with a simple “Okay” and started the engine.

The strawberry juice that had been ordered was still warm in Xu Huaiming’s lap. He passed it over to Tan Xilu, saying, “Drink it while it’s still warm.”

Tan Xilu was momentarily surprised, probably not expecting that Xu Huaiming had brought strawberry juice for him. Then he took it, raised a corner of his lips, and said, “Thank you.”

Chapter 65 – Who Says Omegas Can’t be as Explosive as Alphas

Chapter 65

After Wen Xingchen confessed, there was silence for a while.

Lu Jingning remained motionless, staring at Wen Xingchen with bright eyes, his expression changing, his attitude unclear.

The tension in the atmosphere felt almost unbearable for Wen Xingchen.

He cleared his throat and took the initiative to explain, “The Omega you saw just now came to find my brother. I was just helping to show him around. There’s nothing between me and him.”

Lu Jingning had already received the title of “boyfriend” out of nowhere, and his mind was swirling with thoughts. Hearing Wen Xingchen’s explanation, the irritation in his heart eased slightly, but he couldn’t shake off the feeling of being deceived.

With a disdainful click of his tongue, Lu Jingning spoke in a dismissive tone, “Well, it’s your fault, but being attracted by such an outstanding Omega, it’s not all your fault. But one thing you must remember from now on.” He lifted his chin with arrogance and pointed at himself, saying, “I, your boyfriend, was something you begged for with all your might. Got it?”

Despite the slightly reddened ears, the tone and attitude Lu Jingning displayed exuded a strong sense of authority.

Wen Xingchen controlled the urge to smile, and with utmost sincerity, he nodded, “Understood, and I’ll also beg you not to break up with me.”

Looking deeply into Wen Xingchen’s eyes, Lu Jingning’s magnetic voice sounded hoarse and slow, “If you leave me, I don’t think I can go on living.”

This seemingly revealed the pecking order in their relationship.

Lu Jingning was finally satisfied, “Well, we’ll see how you perform then.”

Wen Xingchen humbly asked, “So, are you planning to use me today?”

With a stern expression, Lu Jingning retorted, “After using two suppressants, what else do I need? No, I don’t need it! I said I don’t need it!”

Wen Xingchen feigned disappointment, but there was a hint of amusement in his eyes, “Then I’ll perform well in the future and strive to earn your favor soon.”

He usually wore a cool and detached demeanor, but today, he seemed to be unusually gentle and soft all over.

Lu Jingning initially wanted to maintain a composed front, but he couldn’t help but let a smile tug at the corners of his lips. He scolded himself internally for falling for Wen Xingchen’s tricks. “Damn, shameless! He’s actually using the beauty trap!”

In order not to waver, he pulled the blanket over and closed his eyes, “I’m going to sleep now. You can leave.”

Wen Xingchen approached and tucked the blanket for him, “I’ll wait until you fall asleep before leaving.”

The bed seemed to have a special charm, coupled with the relaxed mood, and sleepiness quickly enveloped him.

Wen Xingchen sat quietly by the bed for a while. Finally, he couldn’t help but chuckle, “So, I have a boyfriend now…”

Perhaps due to the side effects of the two suppressants, Lu Jingning’s sleep was deep and unending. When he woke up, it was already close to noon the next day. The bright stellar light was blocked outside by heavy curtains.

Yan Hebin was packing his suitcase, and when he heard Lu Jingning’s voice, he looked up and asked, “Awake?”

Lu Jingning’s head was throbbing, and he grumbled as he sat up from the bed. The first thing he did was look around.

Yan Hebin said, “Don’t bother looking, he’s already gone.”

Yesterday, when he returned to the room and saw Wen Xingchen sitting there, he was indeed taken aback. If it weren’t for the lack of a strong Alpha scent in the air, seeing Lu Jingning’s seemingly dead-asleep state in the bed with an Alpha alone could lead to certain assumptions.

However, Lu Jingning was still in his estrus phase, yet he remained in the room with an Alpha without losing control. If Wen Xingchen hadn’t intended to mark him, it meant he trusted Wen Xingchen unconditionally.

It made Yan Hebin rethink their relationship. He wasn’t one to meddle in others’ affairs, so he didn’t ask too much. He simply reminded Lu Jingning, “If you’re awake, hurry up and pack. We need to get ready to leave.”

Lu Jingning responded with a muffled sound, his head throbbing. He sat up from the bed in a hurry, ready to start packing.

The delegation assembled and boarded the spacecraft to return home. Lu Jingning took his seat and sent a message to Wen Xingchen. Shortly after, he received a reply.

[Wen Xingchen: I’ll probably be back tonight.]

Lu Jingning was about to put away the communicator when he received another message.

[Wen Xingchen: Be careful on the way.]

Lu Jingning couldn’t help but let a slight smile creep onto his lips.

Damn, they’re actually in a real relationship!

Yu Zeyang passed by and suddenly stopped, frowning as he asked, “I heard from Yan Hebin that you weren’t feeling well. Are you better now?”

Lu Jingning found Yu Zeyang’s attitude quite interesting and didn’t answer right away. Instead, he looked him up and down and remarked, “Vice President, are you turning to a gentler approach now?”

Yu Zeyang’s mouth twitched, “I shouldn’t have asked you anything!”

An Huo, sitting in the front row, couldn’t help but laugh and leaned on the back of his chair, saying, “Lu Jingning, you left early yesterday, so you missed the a good show. It’s such a pity!”

Lu Jingning, distracted by Wen Xingchen’s antics, realized that he had forgotten to ask about the later events of the exchange meeting. He eagerly asked An Huo for a follow-up on the events.

Their mechas received three S-rank scores in the ninth-level assessment, which meant they were now eligible for deployment in actual battles. The news caused a sensation, and the proxy rights fetched a sky-high price, more than ten times that of Wen Han’s mecha.

An Huo added with enthusiasm, “You didn’t see the expressions of the people from Thunder Research University! Oh my, it was magnificent!”

Lu Jingning, though not present at the scene, felt like he was watching a great play just from An Huo’s description.

However, An Huo quickly shifted his focus, “But that’s not the main point!”

Curious, Lu Jingning looked at him with interest.

The Mecha Pilots Association had a limited number of recruits each year. This level of exchange meeting alone was considered a precious opportunity for them to offer a spot. But Yan Hebin’s appearance threw them into a dilemma.

They even considered retracting the spot given to Wen Han if needed.

In the end, after consulting with higher-ups, the Mecha Pilots Association issued an invitation to Yan Hebin again. This could be seen as an extraordinary recruitment, and the significance was completely different from Wen Han’s.

Lu Jingning was surprised by the dramatic turn of events. He looked at Yan Hebin and asked, “So, you joined the Mecha Pilots Association? Why didn’t you tell me when you woke up today?”

Yan Hebin replied nonchalantly, “I didn’t join; I declined.”

An Huo choked on his own breath, still unable to believe the fact. “Can you believe it, Lu Jingning? Such a great opportunity that countless people dream of, and he just turned it down!!!”

Considering Yan Hebin ‘s passion for mechas, Lu Jingning thought the Mecha Pilots Association would be his ultimate aspiration. However, it seemed that it wasn’t the case. For Yan Hebin, there was something even more important than the Mecha Pilots Association, something that the association couldn’t provide.

Lu Jingning didn’t inquire about the source of Yan Hebin’s persistence and didn’t continue the discussion.

He simply imagined the spectacular scene from the exchange meeting and sincerely gave Yan Hebin a thumbs-up, “Impressive!”

To think that before Lu Jingning left, Wen Han was the center of attention because of the invitation from the Mecha Pilots Association, but shortly after, Yan Hebin refused the opportunity publicly. Lu Jingning couldn’t help but recall a phrase: “What you dream of is nothing to me.”

He couldn’t help but find it funny that such a prestigious opportunity had now become an embarrassment for Wen Han. He must have felt reluctant to mention the invitation after Yan Hebin public refusal.

It was an incredibly honorable opportunity, but due to Yan Hebin’s actions, it had become a matter of shame, making it impossible for Wen Han to bring it up again.

What an ironic twist of fate!

Lu Jingning couldn’t help but laugh at Wen Han’s misfortune.

Chapter 13 – I’ll wait for you on a spring day

Chapter 13 Song Zexu’s Reply

On the page…

To Li Chou:

Hello, Li Chou. It’s Song Zexu.

It’s a pity that I finally found out that you actually like me in this way. I am very grateful, I believe it will be like what you said, “After selling flowers in this life, I’ll be more beautiful in the next life”

You’ll definitely look beautiful in your next life.

But in my heart, you have always been good-looking.

In my opinion, one’s inner beauty is better than outward appearance. Even though I have not seen you before, I still remember living in your apartment, as well as your sweetness and gentleness.

There seem to be a lot of flowers in your apartment, and the first thing I always wake up to is the sweet fragrance of flowers. During that time, I was always happy. If I didn’t have to continue my career, I think I’d love to spend the rest of my life in that place.

At that time, I only knew that you were the owner of a flower shop, but I had never been to your flower shop. Now the flower shop is run by your friend Lin Xiaomin and her husband.

A few years ago, her husband unfortunately passed away in a landslide after volunteering as a teaching assistant in the forest. Now she and her daughter take care of the store. Her daughter is named Dodo. She is very beautiful. She said she missed you very much and I do too.

I’m going to hold my first concert in my life this year. I’ll make sure to include my 18-year-old album and your favorite song “Spring” in the finale. This song will be just for you.

Sending you back some of your sincere and passionate love. I have received your love and I hope you do too with mine.

May you be safe in another world.

Li Chou.

I’ll be waiting for you in spring.

Song Zexu

Chapter 32 – Replica

Chapter 32: Mercury Chronicles (Part One)

In an instant, Xu Huaiming’s fist struck Li Zhao’s face.

After the sharp pain, Li Zhao fell to the ground in a daze. His back hit the stone pavement, and he felt like his body was about to shatter. In reality, he had only fallen.

Li Zhao remembered when he was a child and didn’t listen to his mother. Her palms were not as soft as he had imagined. Instead of comfort, they brought endless pain. He didn’t gain his father’s approval because he was disobedient. But Li Zhao didn’t become well-behaved. Even though he was in pain and his face was swollen, he developed a rebellious mentality. He wanted everyone to hate him. He wanted

to be the despised villain because only then would he be valued.

A metallic taste suddenly filled his mouth. Li Zhao touched his lips and realized that they were bleeding.

“Quite a punch.” Li Zhao glanced at Xu Huaiming, then turned and walked away gracefully toward the bridge by the lake. “Too bad you’re just a copy, destined to never receive love.”

Xu Huaiming watched Li Zhao’s figure gradually disappear on the bridge by the lake. There was a moment of confusion in his eyes, and then a surge of uneasiness welled up from deep within him.

He felt like Li Zhao was a madman. A moth fluttering in the midst of flames, seeing a companion, grasping a glimmer of hope, would trample over the other’s corpse to escape, even if one side of its wings had already been burned, even if it only had one breath left.

A few birds perched on the sycamore branches, their harsh chirping echoing in his ears. When they flapped their wings, a few dried leaves fell, swaying with the wind and landing at Xu Huaiming’s feet. He shifted his body and realized that he was shivering from the cold.

His phone in his pocket began to vibrate. Xu Huaiming only had Tan Xilu’s number saved, so he knew it was him calling. He took a deep breath and answered, trying to sound as steady as possible, “Hello.”

Tan Xilu asked when he would arrive at their meeting place.

Xu Huaiming forced a smile and replied, “I just finished work. I’ll be there soon.”

After the call ended, Xu Huaiming closed his eyes and looked up at the sky. He thought, “I hope the sun comes out soon.”

Unfortunately, Xu Huaiming and Tan Xilu couldn’t meet up. Just as Xu Huaiming had returned to the store and was getting ready to close for the day, Tan Xilu sent him a message on WeChat, saying that there was a sudden emergency at school.

Helplessly, Xu Huaiming had to put down his things and stay at the store.

The evening at the store was not as busy. Xu Huaiming sat at the bar, feeling somewhat relaxed. He casually made a strawberry juice, knowing that Tan Xilu liked this type of beverage. Xu Huaiming found it overly sweet, but he wrapped it up and planned to take it back for Tan Xilu.

Seeing how carefully he packaged it, Arlene, sitting on a barstool, seemed somewhat displeased and said, “Xu Ge, is it necessary? I can see that Professor Tan’s mind isn’t really on you. Is the person who came to see you today the same one from the last video?”

Xu Huaiming paused as he placed the strawberry juice in the bag. He looked at Arlene and replied, “You have a good memory. You actually remember that?”

“Of course,” Arlene propped up her chin, recalling Li Zhao, and sighed. “He’s quite famous for his dessert shop ‘Xicui,’ with chain stores all over the country. He’s considered successful, and I heard he has a strong background.”

“What’s this? Are you thinking of switching teams?” Xu Huaiming inserted a straw into the bag and teased.

“No way! Am I that kind of person?” Arlene pouted. “When it comes to desserts, it has to be Xu Ge. How else could you have captured my heart for seven years? I clearly fell in love with your culinary skills.”

Xu Huaiming listened to Arlene speak with lowered eyes and smiled from time to time. He wasn’t very good at socializing with people, unlike Arlene, who was lively and likable. Sometimes, he envied her or rather, envied humans in general. If he were human, he wouldn’t have so many concerns and wouldn’t be afraid of breaking up with Tan Xilu.

They would continue dating until they got married, perhaps even grow old together. But all these beautiful dreams were based on him being a normal person, which sadly wasn’t the case.

“Well, truth be told, I quite like Professor Tan,” Arlene looked at Xu Huaiming and continued, “I just feel that it’s not worth it for you, Xu Ge. When I think about the surprise proposal we prepared that day, all shattered because of one lie from Professor Tan, it makes me sad. Even though we’re dating, he lied for another man, which is just so annoying. Today, that person came to see you again. I hope he’s not here to assert his dominance. Xu Ge, you can’t lose to him, you’re the main contender.”

“You have quite an imagination. You should watch fewer palace dramas,” Xu Huaiming chuckled, then added, “No, he’s a friend of Ah Lu’s, someone he introduced to me some time ago. He just came to chat.”

“Really? Not a love rival?” Arlene clicked her tongue, seemingly a bit disappointed, believing her previous assumption. “I thought I might witness a battle between two top pastry chefs to win over a male professor.”

Xu Huaiming: “…”

A battle of that sort might not be necessary, but competing for the professor was a possibility.

Chapter 31 – Replica

Chapter 31

“Bang…”

Xu Huaiming lowered his head to look at his feet. Egg yolk had splattered on them, and a glass bowl, due to inertia, spun a few times by his feet before gradually coming to a stop.

“Xu Ge, what’s wrong with you today? It’s happened several times,” Arlene asked hesitantly. “Are you not feeling well somewhere?”

“Ah?” Xu Huaiming was momentarily puzzled. He didn’t know why he felt a bit uneasy today, as if something was about to happen. He shook his head and said, “I’m fine.” Then, he picked up the glass bowl and placed it in the sink on the bar counter. He grabbed some paper towels and began cleaning the floor and his shoes.

The floor was a bit tricky to clean since the egg yolk was sticky. After quickly absorbing it with paper towels, he sprayed some dish soap and scrubbed it clean.

Fortunately, not much egg had splattered on his shoes, but after wiping away the egg, he still had to brush them carefully to make them spotless. He had bought these shoes a few days ago with Tan Xilu in mind. They were comfortable, and Xu Huaiming really liked them. He had intended to wear them for his date with Tan Xilu later that evening, but he had accidentally dirtied them just after putting them on.

“Xu Ge, how about you take a break in the back room? This way, your work won’t be affected,” Arlene suggested. “There aren’t many customers right now anyway.”

Xu Huaiming rubbed his temples, hesitated for a moment, and then looked at the several bowls and dishes he had accidentally knocked over on the bar counter earlier in the day. Finally, he nodded reluctantly and said, “Okay.”

There was a small resting room in the back, with only a bed inside. Sometimes, when Arlene had a late closing and couldn’t make it to her afternoon shift, she would rest there.

The room had a window, and Arlene always kept it open for ventilation. Now, with the wind blowing outside, a cold breeze swept through, lifting a corner of the bedsheet.

When Xu Huaiming slept alone, he had a habit of shutting down all his bodily functions. He hardly felt the cold. After about ten minutes of rest, he heard faint voices in his ears. The system was more alert than he was and had reactivated all his functions. Then he heard Arlene’s voice saying, “Xu Ge, wake up. There’s a customer looking for you outside.”

Xu Huaiming quickly woke up. He sat up on the bed and, with his peripheral vision, saw a figure by the door. He turned his head and looked outside, only to see the person smirking, a sinister smile that made him uneasy. The person called out, “Hello, Xu Huaiming, do you remember me?”

Xu Huaiming squinted and hesitated for a moment before asking, “Li Zhao?”

A dessert shop, when going straight ahead to the end, led to a small alley, and further down the alley was a senior citizens’ park. At noon, the park was usually deserted, making it a good place for a private conversation.

Li Zhao stopped by the bridge near the lake, turned around, and saw Xu Huaiming following him.

To be honest, Xu Huaiming’s appearance was too outstanding. His words and actions were almost impeccable. If Li Zhao hadn’t heard Professor Bon’s statement, he might not have suspected that Xu Huaiming was an AI. Because compared to 059, the AI he had been tending to in the lab, Xu Huaiming was exceptionally convincing.

The thing AI creators feared the most was that AI would develop genuine independent thoughts. They hoped that AI would have emotions like humans but also feared losing control. Xu Huaiming fell somewhere in between. What set him apart was that his creator was also an AI. AI understood the pros and cons of AI better than anyone else. So, they had crafted Xu Huaiming almost perfectly. But when AI developed emotions, it meant that the once impenetrable armor had a vulnerability, a fatal flaw.

In this case, Xu Huaiming’s vulnerability was Tan Xilu.

To be precise, it was that Tan Xilu didn’t love him.

So, Li Zhao looked at Xu Huaiming with disdain. He didn’t hesitate to expose Xu Huaiming’s “weakness”: “You’re an AI, aren’t you?”

The weather today was truly gloomy. Even though it was afternoon, the sun had barely shown its face, and the sky was gray. The sycamore leaves in the park had almost all fallen, and those that still clung to the trees were half-green and half-yellow. The air wasn’t as fresh as usual. Everything seemed to be signaling that something significant was about to happen today.

Upon hearing Li Zhao’s question, Xu Huaiming finally understood why he had been feeling anxious all day. It turned out that Li Zhao had found out.

The wind was blowing strangely, making a whistling sound. It stung Xu Huaiming’s face, and while his senses were sharp, at this moment, the inner turmoil hurt more than the wind on his face.

He knew that Li Zhao was interested in Tan Xilu. Due to his AI-level alertness, he had sensed it the first time he met the man. Now, Li Zhao had him by the throat. Xu Huaiming couldn’t help but wonder if Li Zhao would tell Tan Xilu.

If he told Tan Xilu, what would Tan Xilu do? Would he break up with him immediately? It was possible. Tan Xilu would undoubtedly feel deceived. But Xu Huaiming had no control over that. However, Tan Xilu wouldn’t care about such things. He was the real victim here. Tan Xilu was easy to appease, but Xu Huaiming knew that this time, Tan Xilu wouldn’t forgive him.

Xu Huaiming dared not dwell on it any longer.

He looked at Li Zhao and took a deep breath before asking, “What do you want?”

“Don’t be afraid,” Li Zhao heard the trembling in his voice and relished in it. He raised his lips and said, “I’m just curious. What would happen if Tan Xilu found out that you’re not the real Xu Huaiming? Would he be disgusted? He’s been sleeping with a stranger all this time. He’s so obedient and docile. Would he go crazy?”

Chapter 64 – Who Says Omegas Can’t be as Explosive as Alphas

Chapter 64

Tomorrow, Zhang Ruo would be leaving, so today, Wen Xingchen took him around the city center for a casual stroll. After returning to the hotel, they planned to have afternoon tea. At this time, it coincided with the time of the university mech exchange meeting, so after sending Zhang Ruo back to his room, Wen Xingchen intended to wait in the lobby for someone’s return.

Zhang Ruo seemed a little absent-minded and had a question in his mind that he had been contemplating for a while. He finally asked, “Tomorrow, when we go to the spacecraft station, will Wen Ye have time to come over?”

Wen Xingchen didn’t want to give him false hope, so he answered honestly, “I probably won’t be able to make it.”

“Oh,” Zhang Ruo responded, and a visible trace of disappointment showed on his face.

At a corner, Lu Jingning’s lips slightly pressed down. He observed them, who appeared quite familiar with each other, but he couldn’t identify what emotions he was experiencing. He knew he should have returned to his room to rest by now, but inexplicably, he found himself following them.

In his heightened state due to the heat cycle, he wasn’t sure why, but he could clearly sense his displeasure. Or maybe it was due to his Omega’s overpowering possessiveness during the heat cycle, making him not want to see Wen Xingchen getting too close to other Omegas.

Zhang Ruo didn’t reveal his disappointment for too long. He quickly sorted out his emotions and then remembered something. Turning around, he took a beautifully wrapped small bag from the numerous purchases and handed it to Wen Xingchen. “By the way, thank you for taking care of me these past few days. This is a little gift from me, I hope you like it.”

Wen Xingchen accepted the bag and, upon opening it, found a delicate and unique badge that appeared quite valuable. He politely smiled and graciously accepted it. “Thank you.”

Lu Jingning narrowed his eyes as if something surged inside him, causing him to lose control over his body. Another Omega passed by, noticing that something was amiss, and approached him quietly. “Um… Do you need any help?”

Even if Lu Jingning was slow to pick up on the situation, he realized that his pheromones were leaking uncontrollably.

Meanwhile, Wen Xingchen was about to bring the wine glass to his lips when he suddenly froze in place. In that moment, he seemed to catch a faintly familiar scent.

Subsequently, the pheromones became increasingly oppressive.

He quickly turned around but didn’t find the person he remembered from his past. However, it was clear that many Alphas around them had turned pale.

The intensity of the pheromones was so overwhelming that it even made others stop their conversations.

Alphas were particularly sensitive to this, and many were struggling to maintain their composure, needing to support themselves against the table to avoid collapsing.

Seated across from him, Zhang Ruo also sensed the pheromones floating in the air and asked, a bit uncertain, “Is that… an Omega in heat?”

His tone carried a hint of disbelief.

After all, if an Omega went into heat in public, the biggest concern would be Alphas losing control and causing chaos.

However, the reactions of the surrounding Alphas didn’t look like they were being enticed. Instead, they seemed immobilized.

Wen Xingchen didn’t even have the mind to reply; he just stood up without a word and walked away in large strides.

Zhang Ruo followed closely behind, witnessing the entire scene. Although he didn’t know what was happening exactly, based on what he had come to understand about Wen Xingchen in the past few days, he firmly vouched, “They really know each other, I can vouch for that.”

The two Beta hotel staff blocking their way exchanged a glance and finally hesitated, allowing some space for them to pass.

Wen Xingchen couldn’t wait any longer and rushed over in an instant, snatching Lu Jingning away from the Omega’s arms. Lu Jingning, who was still feeling a bit dazed, found himself in a spacious embrace, surrounded by the familiar scent of an Alpha. Slowly, he lifted his head and said, “Wen Xingchen?”

Seeing Lu Jingning’s reaction, the others finally believed that the two indeed knew each other and eased their tension slightly.

Zhang Ruo, who was also observing the situation, noticed Lu Jingning’s impending heat and reminded, “Don’t linger here, quickly take him back to his room.”

Wen Xingchen agreed, lifting Lu Jingning effortlessly in his arms.

Lu Jingning, with his hazy mind, caught sight of Zhang Ruo, and for some reason, flashes of their interactions from before played in his mind. He narrowed his eyes slightly, gazing fixedly at Zhang Ruo while holding tightly onto Wen Xingchen’s neck.

Before others could react, Lu Jingning claimed his territory by biting Wen Xingchen’s gland, as though declaring his sovereignty. The Omega who had recently come of age couldn’t help but let out a timid “Ah” and covered his eyes, red-faced.

Even Wen Xingchen, who was already being teased by the pheromones, was stunned by Lu Jingning’s bold move. Despite the overwhelming desire, he controlled himself and managed not to pounce on him right there.

Although suffering from the influence of the pheromones himself, Wen Xingchen couldn’t help but laugh helplessly at Lu Jingning’s antics. “Alright, I won’t touch you. Tell me where the suppressant is, and I’ll get it for you.”

Lu Jingning pointed to the backpack beside the bedside table, and Wen Xingchen found the newly opened pack of suppressants in one of the compartments. He frowned, “You already injected one?”

Lu Jingning’s voice was a bit muddled, “Yeah, my pheromone concentration is high. One dose isn’t enough to suppress it.”

After waiting for a while with no movement, Lu Jingning grew impatient and stuck his head out from under the covers, “Did you find it or not?”

“Found it,” Wen Xingchen said as he walked back to the bed with the suppressant in hand. He looked at Lu Jingning for a moment, “Will two doses be too much?”

“It won’t be,” Lu Jingning replied and added, “And it’s none of your business if it is.”

Wen Xingchen didn’t know what he had done to deserve this treatment from Lu Jingning, feeling somewhat speechless. Though he was struggling with the arousal due to the pheromones, he suppressed it and carefully read through the instructions before giving in, “Fine, I’ll help you then.”

The intense arousal made Lu Jingning desperately want to pounce on Wen Xingchen, and controlling that impulse consumed much of his energy. Despite the condition, he still managed to summon the strength to respond with a lazy sneer, “I don’t need your help. I’m fine now. You can go.”

Wen Xingchen was already accustomed to Lu Jingning’s dismissive attitude, so he remained unfazed, “The instructions mentioned that there might be side effects with two doses. I need to watch over you.”

Lu Jingning snorted, “What’s there to watch? This is a date, isn’t it? If you’re leaving, then leave quickly, don’t make that pretty Omega outside wait anxiously.”

Wen Xingchen was just about to sit on the nearby couch when he froze mid-motion, seemingly realizing something amusing. The corners of his mouth curled up uncontrollably, “If I’m not mistaken, are you… feeling jealous?”

His words lingered in the air without receiving a response.

Lu Jingning hadn’t even considered that possibility before, and for a brief moment, he seemed frozen. Then, suddenly, his face turned red with heat, and he impulsively grabbed the pillow beside him, hurling it forcefully at Wen Xingchen, “Get out of here, you handsome devil!”

Wen Xingchen caught the pillow and, with a playful glint in his eyes, leaned closer to Lu Jingning, almost nose-to-nose, “Speaking of the date, aren’t you playing the seduction game a bit too boldly? When do you plan to take the final step?”

Seeing Wen Xingchen’s eagerness to resolve his matter early, Lu Jingning decided to play it cool, lounging in a comfortable posture. He raised an eyebrow and said, “Are you in such a hurry to hear a confession? But what can I do? I don’t have any such plans right now. How about you beg me instead? Maybe, if you plead enough, I’ll change my mind, Brother Lu?”

As he spoke, there was a hint of provocation in his eyes.

Lu Jingning expected this attitude to catch Wen Xingchen off guard, but to his surprise, Wen Xingchen’s lips curved into a confident smile. He seemed to have no qualms at all as he replied, “Sure, I’ll beg you.”

Lu Jingning was taken aback by his audacity, realizing that Wen Xingchen was willing to go to such lengths to be with that pretty Omega. His expression turned colder at the thought.

With a disdainful click of his tongue, Lu Jingning elongated his tone lazily, pretending to be unimpressed, “Oh, since you’re begging me like this… Fine then, Wen Xingchen, do you want to be in a relationship with me?”

“Sure.” Wen Xingchen responded without hesitation, as though he had been waiting for this question. His two words seemed to flow seamlessly with Lu Jingning’s tone.

It wasn’t the response Lu Jingning had expected, and his facial expression froze in place.

Wen Xingchen, just inches away, gazed at him with a smile, “So, from now on, please take care of me, my boyfriend.”

Lu Jingning was taken aback for a moment, not anticipating such a direct and positive response. His initial attempt to play it cool seemed to have backfired.

With a mixture of emotions swirling inside him, he looked back at Wen Xingchen, who was still smiling warmly. In a rare moment of vulnerability, Lu Jingning couldn’t help but return the smile, “Sure, my boyfriend. Take care of me too.”

Chapter 2 (part 2/2) – You don't know too much

11

Lu Changze became thinner because of his stomach cancer. He couldn’t eat, and vomited after eating. He simply stopped eating and lived on intravenous nutrition every day.

One can no longer see flesh one him. Lu Changze is now living in a single ward, but he can still see the road from the window. Gu Xiu arranged it for him.

From that day on, Gu Xiu came here often, and every time he came, he would bring food for Lu Changze. Unfortunately, Lu Changze can’t eat anymore. It doesn’t feel good to wait to die.

Especially when the person is very weak, Lu Changze’s waking time is gradually decreasing every day, and he is getting quieter and quieter. Sometimes he would sleep for a day and only utter one or two words.

When one is awake, one will always spend their waking hours thinking about some past things. This was especially true when one is dying.

In the third year of high school, Lu Changze liked men, and there was no one in school who did not know about his crush for Gu Xiu.

There were only two people who dared to talk to him and approach him proactively. One was Fang Ming and the other was Gu Xiu. Gu Xiu and Fang Ming were good brothers.

Fang Ming had a good temper and treated his cousin Lu Changze well. Gu Xiu always felt that Lu Changze was holding Fang Ming back, not to mention that this disgusting man liked him

Every time Gu Xiu saw Lu Changze, he would sneer and become sarcastic. In the second semester of his third year of high school, Lu Changze knew about the Fang family’s financial situation and that they can only support one person to go  to college. Lu Changze’s liking for men has already made Fang’s parents feel uncomfortable. Lu Changze is also very self-aware, so starting from the third year of high school, he stopped studying hard. He knew that the place in this university could only be reserved for Fang Ming.

At that time, he was the only one who felt as if he was being cut by a knife. In fact, he liked reading very much. He liked all kinds of books. How much Lu Changze envied others who could go to college and how much he envied others who could study peacefully, the pain in his heart, the more it hurts, the more it didn’t matter.

After the college entrance examination, Gu Xiu and Fang Ming entered the same university with different majors, while Lu Changze found a part-time job in a restaurant near the university.

The students had to live on campus and Gu Xiu was not used to eating in the school cafeteria. After learning about it from Fang Ming, Lu Changze sacrificed his rest and used his salary to buy meals every day.

Sometimes, he would take a detour to buy Gu Xiu’s favorite food and send it to his dormitory.

Gradually, Gu Xia also ate the meals brought by Lu Changze. Lu Changze served as Gu Xiu’s delivery boy and meal tickets for a year, rain or shine.

When he was a sophomore, Gu Xiu and Fang Ming started a business. Gu Xiu was a man with a good head on his shoulders and he had money at home, so he went into real estate.

Afterwards, the two made some appearances. After Lu Changze pestered Fang Ming so he could work together, Gu Xiu disagreed a lot and Fang Ming had no choice but to never bring it up again. However, Lu Changze had a thick skin, so gradually he got into the bottom layer.

In fact, Lu Changze was not stupid, so Gu Xiu eventually just let him be.

Lu Changze entered Huihua founded by the two of them, but only Lu Changze himself knew how hard he worked in Huihua.

How many nights he has stayed up just because this company belonged to Gu Xiu and Fang Ming.

But Lu Changze is Lu Changze after all, what he lacked most when he was a child was money, so when he grew up, what he couldn’t let go of was money. He was a philistine and was greedy so he cared about everything. It was not like he never had enough to eat, but he has never felt like he would be able to afford the luxuries he wanted, even if they were a pair of sneakers.

People with slightly more expensive sneakers will never realize the importance of money to Lu Changze. He never went out with a lot of money.

He probably didn’t want to buy clothes even if he had money. Even if he does, he will buy the cheapest clothes because he can’t bear it.

But this attitude of his was very despised, especially by Gu Xiu.

Lu Changze woke up faintly. Seeing that Gu Xiu had arrived, sitting on the sofa beside the hospital bed, he wondered what he was thinking. Seeing Lu Changze wake up, he got up and walked over, “Are you awake?”

Then, there was nothing else, Gu Xiu didn’t know what to say. Although he came often, the two of them rarely said a word.

Lu Changze slowly propped himself up and sat up. Gu Xiu put a pillow behind him and Lu Changze said thank you softly before stretching out his hand

Opening the novel on the side and continuing to read, Gu Xiu felt a little uncomfortable seeing the leisurely and quiet person in front of him. It was difficult to distinguish between the person in front of him and the one in his memory.

The shameless Lu Changze.

“Where did the book come from?”

Lu Changze looked up at him, “I bought it myself.” Lu Changze pointed to the mobile phone on the table, “I asked the nurse to help me pick up the courier.”

Gu Xiu frowned, “You should be less exposed to radiation…”

Lu Changze smiled, “Why did I fall in love with you back then?”

Gu Xiu was annoyed for a while, “What’s the use of talking about it now? Whether you like me or not, soon you will…”

At this point, Gu Xiu suddenly couldn’t continue.

Lu Changze smiled indifferently, lowered his head and continued to read, “Gu Xiu, don’t come here from tomorrow on.”

“Lu Changze, I told you not to think of yourself so highly. Who cares if I come or not?” Gu Xiu was angry.

“I beg you,” Lu Changze said, “I don’t want to see you when I’m about to die.”

Gu Xiu slammed the door and left.

The moment the door closed, Lu Changze rolled on the bed in pain.

Yesterday, Lu Changze saw with his own eyes a patient who had the same disease as him passing away. When that person left, he was in pain…and in a shameful state.

At the very least, Lu Changze didn’t want Gu Xiu to see him haggardly again. Once at the age of twelve was enough.

12

Gu Xiu never came again and Lu Changze resumed his days in the hospital alone but he could no longer go to the garden. He couldn’t walk anymore.

Lu Changze’s exhausted body is struggling to pick up a book and his day-to-day life has become a burden for Lu Changze’s exhausted body. He is very tired.

He is quiet, even if the pain is so painful that his eyes are out of focus, it is still very quiet. So quiet that he doesn’t seem to be alive.

The day Lu Changze passed, it was sunny. When Gu Xiu entered, he still had the unfinished book in his hand. Gu Xiu stood beside the bed for a long time.

For a long time, he didn’t know what he was thinking with his downcast eyes and he didn’t know that the patient in this room had passed until the doctor who made the rounds entered.

After a busy schedule, Gu Xiu arranged a single room for Lu Changze. He didn’t care about anything else until today.

He understood that before Lu Changze was hospitalized, he had already arranged everything that was to come after his passing. He didn’t know that person quietly arranged everything for himself without telling everyone.

Gu Xiu stood in front of Lu Changze’s tombstone and looked at the photo of the person on the tombstone quietly. The person in the photo smiled very happily. It was pure happiness. Gu Xiu only saw that kind of smile once and it was in the waiting hall of the hospital. That was the first time he saw that smile in the hospital.

God…The photo must’ve been taken by the hospital for his tomb, but the person in the photo was still smiling so happily. Gu Xiu doesn’t know why death is so important to Lu Changze. Was this a happy thing?

Lu Changze even bought his own grave before he was hospitalized. Gu Xiu felt as if he had never understood Lu Changze before.

He hasn’t been to the hospital since Lu Changze told him not to come here again, but it was all a lie to him. He still went to the hospital every day but he no longer appeared in front of Lu Changze. Those few days, Lu Changze was as quiet as usual, even when he passed, it was silent.

Gu Xiu suddenly felt that Lu Changze was actually such a quiet person that people would easily forget.

13

Closing: There’s So Much You Don’t Know

Gu Xiu remembered that Lu Changze told him that there were too many things he didn’t know. After Lu Changze passed away, Gu Xiu was always thinking about this problem.

Sometimes it hurts to think about it, so he doesn’t want to continue thinking about it. He is a person of action, so instead of thinking about it, he wants to do something. He wants to understand what he is doing.

In the end, he didn’t know what he was doing.

Gu Xiu has been to the place where Lu Changze lived before. The place is about to be demolished and most of the people have been evacuated. Gu Xiu entered the place where Lu Changze lived before.

The small house was clean except for some dust. When he opened the closet, none of Lu Changze’s clothes were there. Gu Xiu could guess that these things have been kept away by Lu Changze a long time ago. Maybe it was dealt with in a hurry, but Gu Xiu still found something.

He found books at the foot of the bed, some unfinished sketches and a few pencils.

Gu Xiu never knew that Lu Changze could draw, nor did he know that he could draw very well. At least, he drew himself very well.

Looking over the painting, he could feel the tenderness in the eyes of the person who held the pencil. Gu Xiu put the sketch away carefully.

After going to the places where Lu Changze stayed before, Gu Xiu felt that maybe he had never known Lu Changze before.

Among Huihua’s founding employees, Lu Changze will always be the best one and he will always be the most serious one in doing things. After going through Lu Changze’s previous rookie notebooks, he found that his notes were always clear and serious. His handwriting was always clean and neat. Even if it were one of his unreasonable requests in order to make trouble for him.

It’s really distressing. If he hadn’t asked himself, Gu Xiu probably wouldn’t have known that Lu Changze had been away for five years, not two. If he did not come here in person, Gu Xiu would never know that the university was so far away from his favorite restaurant, let alone the fact that he was working part-time at the time.

Lu Changze, who brought food for him, walked a long way for him. If he hadn’t heard it with his own ears, Gu Xiu would never have known that Lu Changze paid for this with his own money and to save money, he bought rice and ate steamed buns and instant noodles all day long.

He talked to his manager, the manager who Lu Changze once worked for and he said that he was a quiet and diligent child.

If Lu Changze didn’t say anything, Gu Xiu would’ve never known that he doesn’t like coffee. Now, Gu Xiu had no chance to know what Lu Changze liked to drink.

A few years had passed since Gu Xiu went to see Lu Changze again. Except for him, no one knew that Lu Changze had passed.

Gu Xiu stubbornly kept silent, as if stubbornly keeping a secret about Lu Changze that only he knew.

Gu Xiu reached out and lightly touched the cheek of the person in the photo on the tombstone.

“I didn’t know you liked school.”

“I didn’t know you liked reading.”

“I didn’t know you could draw.”

“I didn’t know you were a good employee.”

“I didn’t know that the restaurant was that far away.”

“I didn’t know you didn’t like coffee.”

“I don’t know what you like to drink.”

“But you know what I like.”

“You’re right, I don’t know too much.”

“Lu Changze, I… miss you a lot.”

The voice was a little choked, but no one heard it.

T/N: Happy Bad End Month!

Chapter 12 – I’ll wait for you on a spring day

Chapter 12 Li Chou’s Confession Letter

On the letter

To Song Zexu:

When you open this letter, I don’t know if you’ll still remember me. My name is Li Chou. I saved you after you were injured in Yunzhen.

It’s quite surprising that I was able to muster up the courage to write you a letter. You have probably forgotten that our first meeting was a long time ago.

At that time, you were still not popular and were going to an audition. I happened to meet you when I went shopping in the city.

You gave me the feeling that you are the same kind and gentle man everyone could see on TV. This may be a bit exaggerated, but you are really good-looking. Because I look ugly, I have received a lot of disgusted stares since I was a child. Generally, everyone would dislike me when they see me, but you talked to me, we got along well and it was really comfortable talking with you.

Perhaps it is because of this that I will come to like you so much later.

I was actually very pleasantly surprised when I accidentally rescued you. After all, it was you, my favorite person, but then I got a little flustered, because I was wondering what happened to you to end up with sas many bruises as you did. I was worried until you finally woke up.

Then you woke up, you said you couldn’t see. At that moment, I was sweating profusely. What should I do? You were an actor, what would you do if you couldn’t see?

Fortunately, the doctor said it was only temporary blindness. Later, you lived in my apartment and found out that you were my idol.

In fact, I really like you. I want to be the one to be with you, but there is a huge gap between us and I know it’s impossible.

To be honest, I have had a crush on you for a long time and no one can hold their excitement after being alone together in a room with their crush, but I can’t expose myself. Knowing that you hate extreme fans. I really want to be forceful and I really want to push you down, but just thinking about it, I dare not to.

It’s almost early morning now, the summers in Yunzhen are very hot. You must not be used to it. You don’t belong here and will be leaving tomorrow, so my secret crush is going to be buried in my heart again. I don’t know when you will see this letter. You are so busy, maybe you will never see this. Don’t worry, it’s alright. If you see this, I just like you and I will only continue to support you silently instead of being a threat to you.

You have to remember:

I’ll love you forever.

Li Chou
