The Dragon Egg I Nurtured for a Thousand Years Finally Hatched

Chapter 47 – Many Years Ago

Chapter 47: Many Years Ago

“…”

After Long Ling spoke, there was a moment of silence in the bathroom.

Tick, tock.

The room was extremely quiet. Long Ling heard a drop of water fall in the bathroom, landing on the floor… At that moment, he couldn’t wait any longer. He opened the bathroom door directly and stepped inside.

The steam hadn’t dissipated in the bathroom. His phoenix was curled up under the shower, his snowy white shirt soaked from neck to face, his cheeks flushed red, and his beautiful eyes shimmering with moisture.

He trembled all over, his black hair messy and scattered over his shoulders, his entire demeanor just as chaotic and enticing as Long Ling had imagined.

Long Ling walked quickly over, bent down, and lifted his phoenix. He felt the astonishing heat of his skin in his palm. Su Muluo reached out and gripped his shirt tightly, burying his face deeply in his chest.

Long Ling said, “Phoenix?”

Su Muluo didn’t speak.

So Long Ling turned around, carried his phoenix back to the bed, afraid he might catch a cold. He pulled the blanket over his exposed long legs, gently cupped Su Muluo’s face with one hand, and whispered, “Phoenix, don’t be afraid of me.”

“…”

Su Muluo still didn’t speak, just lowered his eyelashes. He curled up in Long Ling’s embrace, his consciousness stretched to the breaking point, about to snap at any moment.

However, in his dazed state, he had a premonition that this estrus was different from the last time, seemingly not something that could be resolved with just a kiss…

In the midst of Su Muluo’s confused thoughts, Long Ling had already kissed his lips. Like before, he did not refuse.

But after the kiss, the heat on his body did not subside. He still trembled, clutching Long Ling’s shirt tightly.

This was a situation Long Ling hadn’t anticipated. He looked down in surprise at his phoenix.

Su Muluo buried his face, his ears tinged with a deep crimson, his voice low and filled with embarrassment: “I… don’t want to be here…”

He didn’t want to be in this unfamiliar place, in this strange hotel, with his dragon…

After a brief astonishment, Long Ling quickly understood. This time, the situation was clearly more serious than before, and a kiss wouldn’t solve it.

But his phoenix was unwilling.

After pondering for a moment, Long Ling’s hand gently stroked Su Muluo’s slender back, soothing his phoenix’s tension and unease.

“Phoenix, don’t worry,” Long Ling murmured into Su Muluo’s ear, “It’s okay if you don’t want to be here. I won’t push it to the end.”

Su Muluo’s eyelashes trembled, he looked up at him, his ink-colored eyes like a pool of fine wine, hazy and intoxicating.

Long Ling softly said, “There’s another way… I can teach it to you.”

The next morning, the morning sunlight spilled through a corner of the curtain, and Long Ling opened his eyes.

The chaos and ambiguity of last night had passed. The low moans and pleading cries still echoed in his ears. Long Ling lowered his head and looked at the phoenix in his arms.

After the night, the blush at the corners of Su Muluo’s eyes had not faded, and there were still traces of tears on his face. He nestled softly in Long Ling’s arms, deeply asleep, showing no signs of waking up.

A smile uncontrollably crept onto Long Ling’s lips. He leaned over and gently nuzzled his phoenix a few times, then kissed him on the cheek.

They hadn’t gone all the way last night, but before that, they had done what needed to be done.

The tears and gasps of his phoenix throughout the night were tightly held in his hands, unable to let go.

Long Ling hugged Su Muluo tightly, feeling joyous in his heart, and couldn’t help but kiss his phoenix’s face again.

Perhaps next time, he would truly possess his own phoenix.

Just as Long Ling was thinking this, Su Muluo in his arms stirred gently.

Just waking up, Su Muluo’s mind was still somewhat blank. He raised his head drowsily— and met Long Ling’s smiling amber eyes.

“Phoenix,” Long Ling chuckled softly, “Did you sleep well?”

Su Muluo: “…………”

He stayed in Long Ling’s embrace for a few seconds, then suddenly reverted to his original form and flew away.

Long Ling: “?”

He immediately sat up, watching as Su Muluo transformed back into a little phoenix and landed on the bedside, silent, turning his back to him.

Withdrawing into himself, not wanting to talk.

Long Ling thought his phoenix wanted to fly away, but unexpectedly, he just landed on the bedside. He sighed in relief, leaned over, lightly poked it, and said, “Is the phoenix unhappy?”

The little phoenix remained silent.

Boldly, Long Ling reached out and scooped up the round little phoenix directly into his arms, stroking its head and asking with a smile, “Do you want a kiss?”

Little phoenix: “…Chirp.”

I’m not paying attention to you.

“I didn’t do anything wrong. Why are you ignoring me?” Long Ling blinked innocently, “It was the phoenix’s own choice,” he added fearlessly, “And didn’t the phoenix also like it last night?”

Little Phoenix: ?

Upon hearing this, Little Phoenix immediately pecked Long Ling.

Long Ling laughed and held his phoenix in his hands, quickly petting it.

Little Phoenix: …

Little Phoenix remained silent for a few seconds, fluttering its wings to fly to the top of Long Ling’s head. Instead of pecking him again, it quietly nestled down.

Long Ling thought to himself: His phoenix is shy.

Feeling pleased, Long Ling continued to have the small phoenix on his head as he headed to the bathroom.

While washing up, Long Ling looked at the little phoenix through the mirror, noticing how it would quickly turn its head away when caught looking, which made him want to laugh.

But since the phoenix was shy right now, laughing would only embarrass it more, so Long Ling just coughed lightly with his fist against his mouth.

The shy phoenix is so cute, incredibly cute.

He thought.

However, if it’s shy like this now, what will its reaction be next time?

Thinking about this, Long Ling felt a bit of anticipation in his heart, but he didn’t say it aloud—he knew if he did, he’d probably get pecked.

After washing up, the dragon and the phoenix set off again. Outside the hotel, Long Ling took out a jade pendant and said, “This time, don’t point us in the wrong direction again.”

The spirit in the jade pendant immediately swore with great determination, “You can rest assured! Today, we will definitely reach the Su Yuan!!”

Long Ling raised his head slightly, and the little phoenix on his head made a chirping sound.

Seemingly not entirely convinced.

Long Ling said, “I see.”

The spirit in the jade pendant didn’t understand the chirp of the little phoenix, nor did it know what they were talking about, “Lord Long Ling, what did you say?”

Long Ling said, “It’s nothing, just lead the way.”

Although the spirit in the jade pendant had been insisting that Su Yuan was very close to them and they would definitely reach it today, Long Ling still maintained a skeptical attitude… Hours later, he found his suspicions were correct.

“No, this can’t be!” The spirit in the jade pendant collapsed, “It must be here! How could I have gone wrong?!”

By now, they had been walking in a deep mountain forest all day, surrounded only by tall trees as far as the eye could see, seemingly endless.

And now, the sky was dark, the air humid, and rain seemed imminent.

Long Ling remained silent, and so did the little phoenix. After a while, Long Ling spoke first, “Didn’t you say you wouldn’t be wrong?”

“I-I-I-I,” the spirit in the jade pendant stuttered, “I think I shouldn’t have been wrong, and the aura of Su Yuan is indeed very close to here… I’m sure, it should be around here!”

Long Ling raised an eyebrow, “But there’s nothing here.”

And he and his phoenix didn’t feel anything special either.

Spirit in the jade pendant: …

Suddenly, the spirit in the jade pendant whispered, “My energy seems to be running low again.”

Long Ling: …

“Sire Long Ling, rest assured! We’re really close!! Su Yuan is definitely nearby!!” The spirit in the jade pendant shook violently, “Tomorrow, by tomorrow, I will definitely lead you there!!”

After saying this, it exhausted its last strength and retreated back into the jade pendant with a swoosh.

Long Ling: …

The little phoenix jumped down from his head, transforming back into a human and stared at him.

Long Ling clicked his tongue, “Can I just throw away this jade pendant?”

Su Muluo sighed, “Forget it, didn’t it say we’re already very close? We should be almost there.”

Long Ling held the hand of his phoenix and asked, “What should we do now?”

“Let’s see if we can find a place to rest for a while,” Su Muluo suggested, “It looks like it’s going to rain soon.”

He wasn’t wrong. Moments later, a downpour began, and the sky darkened completely.

But just before that, Su Muluo and Long Ling had found a cave to take shelter in. Long Ling lit a fire and used the large branches he had collected earlier to block the cave entrance, forming a makeshift door.

Inside the cave was damp and chilly, with only the fire driving away some of the cold. Su Muluo looked around and thought miserably that it was quite memorable, so he took out his phone and snapped a few pictures.

Long Ling sat down next to his phoenix and said gently, “The phoenix can transform back and sleep in my clothes.”

Su Muluo shook his head, indicating no, and said, “It’s warmer if we lean against each other.”

A smile flickered in Long Ling’s eyes as he hugged his phoenix and affectionately rubbed against him.

As the rain intensified, it gradually subsided. Su Muluo watched the fire and gradually felt sleepy.

He leaned against Long Ling’s shoulder and drifted off to sleep. He didn’t know how long he had slept when he suddenly woke up.

—He sensed something was wrong.

“Phoenix?” Long Ling hadn’t slept, he had been watching over his phoenix. Seeing the phoenix awake, he gently touched its hair and asked, “What’s wrong? It’s not yet dawn.”

Su Muluo didn’t speak. He grabbed Long Ling’s sleeve and stared straight at the entrance of the cave.

It was still dark outside, pitch black. Despite the branches blocking it, there was still a gap.

And standing at that gap was a figure whose face couldn’t be seen.

“…”

Perhaps Su Muluo had been staring at the person for too long, because Long Ling asked in confusion, “Is there something outside?”

Su Muluo blinked slightly, then turned to Long Ling and asked, “You can’t see it?”

Long Ling: ?

He looked at the phoenix, then at the cave entrance, saying, “Can’t see.”

Su Muluo was even more surprised, saying, “There’s a person with an indistinct face at the cave entrance.”

Long Ling: “…”

He stared motionlessly at Su Muluo. After a few seconds of eye contact, Su Muluo stood up, took Long Ling’s hand, and walked towards the person at the cave entrance.

However, as soon as they approached, the person immediately turned around and left their original position.

Su Muluo didn’t hesitate, saying, “He’s gone, let’s follow him.”

Although unable to see the person’s face clearly, and unsure if they were even human, he had a strong intuition that this person was here to guide him.

Long Ling followed his phoenix without objection. By now, the rain had stopped, and outside the cave in the deep night, the person walked between muddy mountain paths without touching the ground, seeming to float all the way.

The two followed this person through the deep mountains like this. After an unknown time, the person stopped.

Guided by him, Su Muluo and Long Ling arrived at the edge of a cliff. Above the cliff, a cold moon hung in the sky, and below it, a bottomless abyss.

Seeing Su Muluo stop in his tracks, Long Ling asked, “Have we arrived?”

“Should be?” Su Muluo looked somewhat uncertainly at the person standing at the edge of the cliff, saying, “He’s not moving.”

At the same time, a doubt arose in his mind.

Su Yuan… Could he be right under this cliff?

But who exactly is this person?

——As if hearing his doubt, the person slowly turned his head at this moment.

Under the moonlight, his body appeared semi-transparent and gradually dissipated. Before dissolving completely, his features emerged, allowing Su Muluo to see his face clearly.

In an instant, Su Muluo’s mind went blank. A name that was clearly unfamiliar yet felt like it had been known for years suddenly surfaced.

Shuangli.

It was precisely when this name came to mind that the scene before him abruptly changed. He felt as if he was rapidly plummeting into a deep pool, engulfed by watery memories.

Those long-sealed memories quickly turned into shattered bubbles, enveloping him and swallowing all his consciousness… causing him to faint.

“Chief, Chief!”

Where the Phoenix Clan lived, flowers bloomed abundantly. It was still early morning when a young man in blue stopped the Phoenix Clan chief who was admiring the flowers and proudly opened his hands to him, “Look what I found!”

The Phoenix Clan chief, dr4p3d in a robe adorned with white feathers, his black hair loose and hanging loosely behind him, heard the youth’s words and slightly turned his head. A strand of black hair slid from his shoulder, brushing past his gentle and beautiful eyebrows.

After seeing what the youth held in his hands, his expression showed slight surprise as he said, “Is this… a newly hatched clan member?”

——In the youth’s hands was an egg, a small, white egg.

“Come on, our little ones in the clan aren’t that ugly.” The youth poked at the egg and said, “It’s almost like the eggs of the neighboring Dragon Clan… Although the Dragon Clan’s eggs don’t seem to be that small.”

Thinking about it, the Phoenix Clan chief said, “Where did you pick it up?”

“Just over there on the back hill, floating down with the water all the way.” The youth said, “I saw it floating on the water, neither sinking nor breaking. It definitely doesn’t seem like an ordinary egg, so I scooped it up.”

The Phoenix Clan chief smiled slightly and said, “It seems to have a connection with you. Why don’t you keep it?”

The youth immediately waved his hand when he heard this, saying, “I don’t want it. I came to find the chief just for this!”

“I don’t have the patience to keep it. If I accidentally break it while raising it, or if some strange and ugly thing crawls out of it one day, how can I manage—so I think I’ll just give this egg to the chief.”

The Phoenix Clan chief fell silent for a few seconds upon hearing this, then said, “You’ve said that something strange might crawl out of it, and you want to give it to me.”

The youth grinned and said, “Just in case, and even if some strange monster crawls out, the chief can definitely suppress it.”

“Besides, if nothing hatches from it, the chief can just stew it and it’ll nourish your body!”

The Phoenix Clan chief was probably touched by his concern and remained silent for a while.

Seizing the moment of his silence, the youth stuffed the egg into his hand and quickly ran off.

“Phoenix… Phoenix?”

A deep voice echoed in his ears, and Su Muluo woke up from his dream, slowly opening his eyes.

He found himself in an unfamiliar place, and suddenly, it all started to make sense.

The youth from his dream was already gone, but he still remembered his name.

Shuangli.

“Phoenix, you awake?”

Long Ling was right beside Su Muluo, holding him close, letting him lean against his chest.

“Why did you suddenly fall asleep? Are you feeling unwell anywhere?”

“…No.”

Su Muluo sensed Long Ling’s concern, turned his face to nuzzle him, and said, “Just remembered some things.”

Seeing his expression, Long Ling guessed something, “Is it about that person just now?”

Su Muluo nodded, recalling the dream scene, and slowly said, “He’s from my clan, Shuangli. We should have been close… A thousand years ago, he even gave me an egg to raise.”

“Wait a minute,” Long Ling’s attention shifted suddenly, “Phoenix, you’ve raised other eggs before??”

He immediately grabbed Su Muluo’s clothes, looking like he was ready to demand answers.

Looking at him, Su Muluo was silent for a few seconds before saying, “That egg wasn’t very good-looking. It was small and rough, like a chicken egg.”

“And then?” Long Ling asked eagerly, “Did the Phoenix still raise it? It’s outrageous to raise such an ugly egg! I won’t—”

Before he could finish, Su Muluo calmly interrupted him and continued, “No, what I meant is, precisely because that egg was ugly, and bare, like a not very appetizing chicken egg, so it…”

“It was very likely ]you.”

Long Ling: “……”

Long Ling: “???”

Chapter 46 – Don't Come In

Chapter 46: Don’t Come In

At six in the morning, a little phoenix blinked its eyes open from its slumber.

Still half asleep, it snuggled against the black dragon’s body where it was nestled, until the dragon affectionately nudged it a few times with its head, prompting a disgruntled “chirp” from the phoenix.

Transforming back into human form, still groggy, it sat up and noticed it was still dark outside.

“Pheonix,” Long Ling also transformed into a human, his arm around Su Muluo’s waist, planting a kiss on his slightly drooping eyelids. “Go back to sleep, it’s still early.”

Su Muluo leaned against his dragon tiredly. “What time is it?”

He had planned to wake up early today and set off sooner.

“It’s only six,” Long Ling stroked his soft hair, saying, “we’re not in a rush anyway. No matter what, we can set off today.”

Su Muluo agreed with this reasoning, so he sluggishly burrowed back under the covers, burying his face into Long Ling’s chest.

Long Ling happily hugged his phoenix, rubbing his head against the phoenix’s. He enjoyed how the phoenix stuck to him, relying on him, looking all sleepy and cute.

And during winter, the phoenix was so soft and lazy, making him just want to hold the phoenix and stay snuggled in the blankets without ever wanting to leave the house.

Su Muluo didn’t know what Long Ling was thinking, but in his half-asleep state, he felt his dragon sneakily kissing him and patted him in response.

Two hours later, Su Muluo opened his eyes and felt less sleepy.

He tried to sit up from the bed, only to find Long Ling still holding onto him. He gently pushed him, “I want to get up.”

Reluctant to let go, Long Ling, remembering how the phoenix had willingly snuggled into his embrace while asleep, grabbed hold of his clothes… it was incredibly cute.

So he said, “Just a little longer, please.”

Yawning, Su Muluo lazily stayed put. Long Ling buried his face into the crook of his neck, savoring his favorite scent.

After being snuggled like this for a while, Su Muluo felt like he was being treated like a cat by this dragon and didn’t feel like being “sucked dry” by him, saying, “I need to change clothes!”

Long Ling responded with an “Oh,” releasing his hold. “The phoenix is so stingy.”

They had only snuggled for a short while.

Su Muluo: ?

Was this dragon complaining about being taken advantage of?

Immediately, he messed up Long Ling’s hair, got out of bed, and went to freshen up.

After changing into fresh clothes, Su Muluo entered the living room, picked up the jade pendant, and asked, “Are you awake?”

Before he could finish his sentence, a spirit entity swiftly floated out from the jade pendant, saying, “I’m awake! As long as phoenix calls for me, I will be!”

“Your Highness Phoenix, just call for me, and I’ll come out!”

Long Ling looked at the jade pendant and asked, “What about when he doesn’t call for you?”

The spirit within the jade pendant probably remembered the embarrassing conversation from yesterday and replied dryly, “When His Highness doesn’t call for me, I remain in a dormant state. You can treat me like an ordinary jade pendant.”

Upon hearing this, Long Ling glanced at his phoenix with a slight smirk. “So, during those times, you can’t hear or see anything?”

Su Muluo clicked his tongue. He understood the implication in the dragon’s words and promptly patted him.

“Yes,” the spirit in the pendant answered innocently, not understanding, “since His Highness the Phoenix created me thousands of years ago, he instructed me not to be disturbed, so I’m usually very well-behaved.”

Long Ling continued playfully, “Oh, it’s all about what the Phoenix says—”

He drew out the last syllable, and Su Muluo fell silent for a second.

Though the words didn’t sound significant, he felt something peculiar.

Surely this dragon was up to no good again!

He calmly told the spirit in the pendant, “You can go back to sleep. I’ll call for you when we’re ready to leave.”

—Then angrily patted Long Ling’s head, saying, “Stop talking!”

Long Ling obediently let him pat, looking a bit aggrieved and innocent. “I didn’t say much. It’s clearly the Phoenix who thinks so much. The Phoenix is naughty.”

Su Muluo: ?

“Alright, I’m naughty,” Long Ling quickly corrected himself under Su Muluo’s gaze, then affectionately nuzzled against his phoenix’s soft face. “But just now, that pendant said, thousands of years ago, the Phoenix didn’t want it to disturb you… But back then, only I and the Phoenix lived together. Why would the Phoenix be afraid of being disturbed?”

Su Muluo replied expressionlessly, “I have no idea. Now move away. If you keep blabbering, I’ll hit you.”

Long Ling grabbed his wrist, unafraid, and loudly continued, “It must be that back then, the Phoenix was always demanding affection from me, doing this and that, yet afraid of the pendant seeing it, so it kept the pendant asleep!”

With that, he defiantly turned and ran off, showing no sign of backing down.

Su Muluo: …

Several minutes later, Su Muluo calmly walked out the door, fingers hooked around a tangled, squealing little black dragon.

In the coffee shop, an orange cat lay fast asleep on a bed in the staff room. Su Muluo shook it awake, saying, “Sorry to disturb you, I need to talk to you.”

“Meow!”

Qiansui woke up very displeased, initially not realizing who it was until it opened its eyes and saw Su Muluo, freezing immediately.

Then, its fur bristled all over, and it swiftly darted to the end of the bed.

Su Muluo wondered why it was so afraid of him. “I—”

Qiansui interrupted anxiously, “I didn’t see anything yesterday! Really!!”

Su Muluo fell silent.

Oh, he had almost forgotten about that embarrassing incident yesterday when Qiansui caught him kissing his dragon.

So he immediately reached into his pocket and pinched the little black dragon.

Moments earlier, it had just managed to untangle itself from a knot when the phoenix reached in and, not understanding, grabbed its fingers and refused to let go.

“Squeak.”

Su Muluo tried to pull his finger free but couldn’t, so he let the little dragon hug him tightly and said to Qiansui, “Don’t worry, I just wanted to ask if you could help look after the coffee shop for a few more days.”

Qiansui asked, “Are you going out again?”

Su Muluo nodded.

Thousand Years remained silent for a moment, then said, “I feel like this shop might be going out of business.”

Su Muluo thought to himself that he had the same feeling, but reassured Thousand Years, “Don’t worry, it won’t go out of business. I still have some savings on me.”

Thousand Years’ expression slightly improved upon hearing this. He nodded and said, “Alright then, take care on your way.”

“Thank you,” Su Muluo replied.

He then stood up and walked out of the staff break room.

Coincidentally, just as he stepped out, two girls entered the shop—Song Nan and Yang Yueyue.

“Boss!”

Both girls were carrying heaps of things, ranging from fruits to snacks of all sorts, a dazzling array that startled Su Muluo, making him think they were here to sell something in his shop.

“What’s all this?”

“It’s a thank-you gift!” Song Nan smiled. “Boss, you’ve helped both Yueyue and me. We had to give you something in return, but since we didn’t know what you liked, we decided on food!”

“Yeah!” Yang Yueyue chimed in. “Thank you, boss! If it weren’t for you this time, I might have been possessed forever, wuwuwu.”

Observing her recovered demeanor, Su Muluo said, “Be more careful next time. Don’t touch those unidentified things again.”

He had considered whether the man behind the demonic spirit had intentionally targeted Yang Yueyue, but quickly dismissed the idea; she had no real connection to him. His henchmen were likely lurking in Lincheng long before, and Yang Yueyue had just been unlucky. Even without her, the man would have encountered other demons.

Yang Yueyue nodded vigorously. “Starting the day after tomorrow, I’ll go back to my hometown to lay low. That darn ghost has stirred up too many people, and now they’re all after me… sigh, I should’ve never trusted that marriage charm.”

“This kind of thing doesn’t rely on external forces. Maybe after you return home, you’ll find your own destiny,” Su Muluo comforted.

Yang Yueyue smiled at his words. “Thank you, boss! I’ll borrow your good wishes then!”

After they left, Su Muluo picked out some perishable fruits from the gifts and gave them to Thousand Years, taking the rest back to his rented house.

Before officially setting off, he sent a message to Liu He. Upon hearing that Su Muluo had found Suyuan, Liu He was very surprised and sent him a crying emoji:

“Sorry, Mr. Su, we couldn’t find this place earlier qaq.”

Su Muluo thought to himself that this was the Fallen Phoenix Clan from thousands of years ago, so they probably wouldn’t have found it either. He comforted Liu He briefly—then his phone was snatched away by the little black dragon watching nearby.

“Ah!”

“No more chatting with the phoenix!”

“We’ve been chatting with this woman for so long!”

Su Muluo glanced at the chat history, which didn’t even exceed ten messages, tapped the little dragon’s head, and said, “Got it, jealous little vinegar.”

After making all the preparations, he took out the jade pendant and awakened the spirit inside, asking, “Can you guide us?”

“Don’t worry! Leave it to me!” The jade spirit confidently agreed, expanding and projecting a map in mid-air.

Su Muluo looked at the crooked map for a few seconds and said, “I don’t understand.”

“It’s okay if you don’t understand. I can guide you… um, let’s head east for three hundred miles first!” The jade spirit said.

Su Muluo initially thought it was very confident and must know the route to Suyuan well… but soon he realized he was wrong.

—At six o’clock in the evening, Su Muluo looked at the desolate grave in front of him, lost in thought.

Although the jade spirit could sense the aura of Suyuan and roughly knew where it was, it was just a rough location… Throughout the day, he and his dragon had been led astray by this jade pendant three times.

So why did they trust this jade pendant so much from the beginning?

“Wuwuwu, I’m sorry, Phoenix Lord!!” The jade spirit cried, “My energy is not enough… But believe me, we’re very close! Tomorrow! Tomorrow I’ll definitely get you there!”

Su Muluo: “… Really?”

He didn’t believe it at all.

Jade Spirit: “Ah ah ah, I’m sorry!!”

It probably really didn’t have enough energy. After saying this, it “whooshed” back into the jade pendant and fell asleep.

Su Muluo looked at the jade pendant in his hand, then at the desolate grave before him, at a loss for words.

The little black dragon coiled around his wrist, laughing “ufufufu.”

Su Muluo immediately pinched the little black dragon, took out his phone, opened the navigation, and checked for the nearest city from their current location.

Luckily, there was still a weak signal. Half an hour later, Su Muluo found a hotel in a small county and decided to stay overnight there.

The hotel room environment was decent. Su Muluo placed the little black dragon on the bed and prepared to take a shower before going to sleep.

Because the little black dragon wasn’t allowed to transform into human form, it could only crawl restlessly on the bed, flicking its tail and staring at the bathroom.

It planned that once the phoenix got into bed, it would transform back and cling to the phoenix.

If the phoenix pushed it away, it would take the opportunity to… with the phoenix.

The little black dragon silently schemed in its mind, then happily spun in place.

After a while, the sound of running water in the bathroom stopped. The little black dragon thought its phoenix would soon come out… but it didn’t.

“Ah?”

What was the phoenix doing?

There was no response from the bathroom.

“Huh?”

Phoenix?

Still no response from the bathroom.

“… “

The little black dragon transformed back into human form and walked quickly towards the bathroom, saying, “Phoenix, what’s wrong?”

He had intended to push open the bathroom door directly, but as soon as his hand touched the door handle, he heard Su Muluo’s voice from inside, “Wait… don’t come in…”

The voice was low, tinged with some pain, and the breath was somewhat urgent, unlike its usual calmness.

Long Ling’s eyes darkened abruptly. “What’s going on? Did the phoenix fall?”

He still wanted to push the door open to check on his phoenix, but Su Muluo stopped him again.

“Don’t come in!” Su Muluo said, “I… haven’t put on clothes yet…”

This time the voice was louder, with a slight tremor in the tone, carrying a hint of secrecy, ambiguity, and suggestive moans.

Long Ling was taken aback, sensing the unusual tone of this statement, and suddenly realized what was happening.

Inside the bathroom, Su Muluo was trying to conceal something, his voice intermittent and unable to control his gradually accelerating breath.

“I’m fine, really… Just let me be alone for a while…”

“… “

Long Ling didn’t reply, just tightened his grip on the door handle.

At this moment, he and his phoenix were separated by only a door. He could even imagine what his phoenix looked like now—curled up in the billowing steam, fair skin tinted with a flush, trembling all over, those beautiful ink-black eyes gleaming with a watery sheen.

There was no sound from the bathroom. Long Ling took a step forward, whispering softly:

“Phoenix… is it like last time, in heat?”

Chapter 45 – Circle it

Chapter 45: Circle it

At this point, it was winter in Lincheng, and the cold wind rustled at night. The little Phoenix lay on Long Ling’s head for a while, and suddenly felt a little cold.

It looked down at Long Ling, jumped on his shoulder slowly, and fluttered its wings, snuggling into his coat pocket.

Long Ling watched as the fluffy lump poked out of his pocket.

Little Pheonix: “Chirp!”

It pecked fiercely at Long Ling.

Long Ling hesitated for a moment, then swiftly inserted his hand before the phoenix could peck him again, gathering the fluffy creature into his palm.

Little Pheonix: “???”

It felt that Long was taking advantage of it again, so it angrily chirped and twisted its little head, looking for a spot to peck the dragon again… But after a while, it found Long Ling’s palm warm and comforting, sheltering it from the cold wind outside, which felt very cozy.

So it stopped chirping and silently nestled in Long Ling’s palm, not moving.

It looked very obedient.

Long Ling’s lips curled slightly. When his phoenix pecked him, it looked fierce, but it didn’t actually hurt. Now it was peacefully curled up in his hand, pretending to be good and adorable — it made him want to hold it in his palm, cuddling it affectionately.

After a while, he took his phoenix back to the rental house and asked, “Is Phoenix cooking today?”

Little Pheonix flew onto the sofa, looking like it didn’t want to cook or turn back into a human, hopping around on the sofa.

It didn’t want to turn back.

In case it turned back and the dragon took advantage of it again, and kissed it… After the kiss just now, if Qiansui found out within twenty-four hours, the phoenix would have a psychological shadow about kissing.

Besides, it was originally a phoenix, and it wouldn’t matter if it didn’t eat. Sometimes it was too lazy to cook, and it and its dragon wouldn’t eat anything.

Long Ling looked at the bouncing little phoenix and smiled, “Does Phoenix want some soup? I can make soup for you.”

Although it was always the phoenix who cooked, he had learned a thing or two from watching. They had bought some beef this morning, which was still in the fridge untouched.

When Little Pheonix heard there was soup, it tilted its head and thought for a moment, then chirped.

It wanted some.

Long Ling extended his hand to it.

Little Pheonix flapped its wings and flew into his hand, being carried into the kitchen by him.

A few minutes later, a pot of beef soup was ready, clear and fragrant with a sprinkling of green onions on top.

Confidently, Long Ling scooped a bowl and presented it to his phoenix, saying, “Phoenix, try it!”

Little Pheonix was obviously excited. After all, the beef soup smelled delicious. But now it seemed not quite appropriate to drink soup in this form, so it thought for a moment and turned back into human form.

Then it cautiously kept some distance from its dragon.

Long Ling: Tsk.

He should have just gotten rid of that cat earlier.

Su Muluo took a sip of the soup with a brightened eye.

Indeed, it was delicious!

Even better than what he made!

So he said to Long Ling, “Next time, you cook.”

Long Ling’s lips curved up. “Okay.”

Su Muluo happily finished a pot of beef soup with his dragon, then returned to his original form and jumped onto Long Ling’s hand.

Long Ling looked at the small phoenix in his palm and felt that he might not take advantage of the phoenix in human form tonight… Sure enough, next time he kissed his phoenix outside, he should use some diversionary tactics first to be safe.

But if the phoenix didn’t want to turn into a human form, besides preventing him from taking advantage, there was another problem — how would it bathe?

Long Ling asked, “Does Phoenix want me to help you bathe?”

Little Pheonix thought for a moment, spread its wings at him, and chirped.

It wanted to bathe.

Long Ling happily carried the small phoenix to the bathroom.

In the bathroom, Long Ling first filled the bathtub with shallow warm water, tested the temperature, and when he found it suitable, he put the phoenix in.

The phoenix’s feathers didn’t get wet or dirty. After Little Pheonix entered the water, it floated in the bathtub.

Like a fluffy little ball of fur.

Long Ling: “… Haha.”

This appearance was quite cute, and he couldn’t help but laugh.

But Little Pheonix thought he was mocking it again and immediately raised its head, angrily chirping at him.

What’s wrong with floating!

It’s not because it’s fat!

“I’m not laughing at you, Phoenix,” Long Ling said seriously, “I think you’re cute and beautiful.”

He even touched Little Pheonix’s head.

Little Pheonix somewhat proudly rubbed against his fingers, knowing it wouldn’t sink, and started swimming in the water.

Long Ling was silent for a moment, thinking, like a little duckling.

Of course, he had never feared death, so he directly voiced his thoughts: “Phoenix in this posture looks like a duckling.”

Little Pheonix: “…”

Long Ling: “But cuter than a duckling.”

Little Pheonix: “…”

This conversation was almost like yesterday’s replay. Little Pheonix remembered how it had pointed at the dragon egg and called it a duck egg, feeling a little guilty for a moment, so it didn’t say anything.

Forget it, it endured for the sake of the beef soup.

After bathing, Long Ling lifted Little Pheonix out of the water, wrapped it in a soft towel, and gently dried the water droplets from its feathers.

Little Pheonix: “Chirp chirp chirp.”

Don’t take advantage of the opportunity to touch its feathers.

“I’m not touching your feathers,” Long Ling said, “and I could have touched them soon.”

Little Pheonix was silent for a moment. “Chirp.”

Not letting you touch.

“Really not letting me touch?” Long Ling raised an eyebrow, smiling, “Then when Phoenix is in heat again, I can only watch from the side.”

Little Pheonix: “…”

This person is so bad!

It immediately turned its little head away, ignoring him.

Long Ling laughed and wrapped his phoenix in the towel, placing it on the big bed, saying, “I’m going to take a bath too, Phoenix, wait for me.”

Little Pheonix sluggishly buried itself in the soft blanket, calling out to indicate it understood.

A moment later, the sound of splashing water came from the bathroom. Little Pheonix boredly jumped around on the bed, suddenly noticing the ancient jade pendant left at the bedside was glowing faintly.

It returned to its original form, picked up the ancient jade pendant from a thousand years ago, and saw the light converging into a constantly jumping spiritual body.

“Phoenix Lord!” The spirit of the jade pendant was very happy. “I’m awake! Look, I’ve accumulated a little more power! I can transform without entering a dream!”

Su Muluo was about to say something when he heard Long Ling in the bathroom shout, “Who is Phoenix talking to?”

The spirit of the jade pendant was startled and said, “Is that Lord Long Ling?”

Su Muluo said, “Yes.” Then he turned his head and shouted back towards the bathroom, “I’m not telling you!”

Long Ling: “…”

The bathroom fell silent.

Su Muluo turned again, addressing the spirit within the jade pendant, “By the way, I have a question—do you know about Suyuan?”

Initially just asking casually, Su Muluo didn’t expect the spirit to actually respond. Yet, upon hearing the question, the spirit within the jade pendant became excited, saying, “Of course I do! Suyuan was where you lived thousands of years ago! Lord Long Ling was there with you at that time!”

Su Muluo was mildly surprised. “Was it a settlement of the Phoenix clan?”

The spirit in the jade pendant shook faintly, “I’m not sure about that. After all, back then, it was just you and Lord Long Ling living there.”

This revelation surprised Su Muluo. He had thought he would be with his clan at that time… But suddenly, he recalled something the spirit had mentioned before and a new thought crossed his mind.

“Wait, during that time, did you see any other Phoenixes?” Su Muluo asked. “Or was it just me and Long Ling the whole time? Did I never mention my clan?”

The spirit in the jade pendant tried hard to remember, “No, I never saw a second Phoenix, nor did you ever mention… I thought you didn’t like your clan at that time.”

Su Muluo fell silent. He had always believed that he had turned into an egg with the demise of the Phoenix clan. However, these words from the spirit gave him a new perspective.

Upon hearing the words “Suyuan,” he had a faint feeling that it was his homeland. If his intuition was correct, then Suyuan was undoubtedly the former settlement of the Phoenix clan.

But when the spirit was born, only he and Long Ling lived in Suyuan, and he had never mentioned his own clan to the spirit… Could it be that by then, his clan was no longer there?

If that were the case, he hadn’t left with his clan; instead, he had watched them die one by one before him…

Su Muluo’s eyes dimmed. But then, he reconsidered because he distinctly remembered Feng Xuan mentioning that shortly after the Phoenix clan’s chief gave the jade pendant to the avian tribe, the Phoenix clan perished.

He shared this doubt with the spirit in the jade pendant. After listening, the spirit said, “I don’t know about that either, but I remember when you handed me over to the avian tribe, you were already prepared to sleep, which means many things might have happened before that.”

Su Muluo frowned. If indeed he had handed the jade pendant to the avian tribe, then thousands of years ago, he was the chief of the Phoenix clan. How could he not have lived with his own clan members?

Moreover, if his clan was still around, he wouldn’t have been so quick to enter slumber. When he had made all preparations and truly decided to enter deep sleep… Perhaps his clan no longer needed his protection, or maybe they were no longer there at all.

Could it be that the demise of the Phoenix clan thousands of years ago wasn’t immediately known to the outside world? Perhaps it was only after he, the last Phoenix, chose to sleep that others discovered there were no more Phoenixes left in the world?

But why would the Phoenix clan be reduced to just him?

And his dragon companion—why were they the only two left in the end?

Su Muluo pondered silently. He had thought about these questions before, and now, this doubt grew stronger in his mind.

Another thing that puzzled him was why he didn’t directly tell the spirit in the jade pendant about everything that had happened thousands of years ago and let it pass on to his future self?

Or was it that back then, he was afraid that he couldn’t bear the truth, thinking that if his future self didn’t coincidentally encounter this jade pendant, he might as well never remember it again?

As countless thoughts crossed Su Muluo’s mind, the bathroom door opened, and Long Ling stormed out.

He approached the bed with a fierce aura, finding his Phoenix not speaking with any other woman but instead facing a floating spiritual entity in front of him. After a moment of silence, he asked, “Phoenix, what is this?”

Su Muluo said, “It’s the spirit in the jade pendant that I told you about.”

Long Ling responded with a casual “Oh,” then stared at the spirit for a few seconds before remarking, “Quite ugly.”

The spirit replied hesitantly, “…”

Su Muluo lightly slapped Long Ling and said, “Don’t say that about them. Apologize.”

Long Ling obediently took the slap and muttered, “Sorry,” then sat down beside his Phoenix.

Su Muluo pulled over a bit of blanket for him and asked the spirit in the jade pendant, “Since you know where Suyuan is, can you take us there?”

“No problem!” exclaimed the spirit, jumping up. “Even though the world has changed a lot over these thousands of years, I can still find that place because you specifically left a mark there!”

Su Muluo thought to himself that over these thousands of years, he must have wanted his current self to slowly uncover the truth, perhaps wanting him to know yet also not to know everything, which is why he hadn’t told the spirit everything.

Was that past truly so unacceptable to him?

Su Muluo sighed silently and said, “Alright then, after everything is prepared tomorrow, we’ll set off.”

The spirit replied, “Okay, I’ll go rest now and save up my energy for tomorrow!” With that, it retreated back into the jade pendant.

Su Muluo intended to place the pendant back on the bedside table, but Long Ling took it and tossed it into the living room outside.

Su Muluo asked, puzzled, “What are you doing?”

“If it has its own consciousness, we can’t let it stay in the room,” Long Ling explained. “What if it hears things when we’re… doing this and that?”

Su Muluo’s expression was deadpan. “I’m not doing this and that with you.”

Then he pulled the blanket and thought it wouldn’t be fair to let the dragon take advantage, so he transformed back into his original form.

Long Ling watched the little Phoenix trying to burrow into the blanket on the bed, finding it very cute as it fidgeted around. Unable to resist, he poked it.

The little Phoenix chirped and its feathers were ruffled!

Long Ling chuckled softly, transformed back into his dragon form, and rested his head next to his Phoenix.

The little Phoenix glanced at the dragon, flapped its wings, and flew up to settle on him.

For the little Phoenix, its dragon was clearly more comfortable than the bed. It quickly found a comfortable spot and contentedly nestled down on the dark dragon.

The dark dragon wrapped it in circles in its arms, its dark golden eyes watching its Phoenix quietly and attentively.

The little Phoenix met the dragon’s gaze, chirped softly after a few seconds, and pecked it gently.

“…,” the dragon said.

A smile flickered across the dragon’s eyes. It nuzzled the little Phoenix gently, as if guarding its most beloved treasure, and watched over its Phoenix until it fell asleep.

Chapter 44 – Suyuan

Chapter 44: Suyuan

“A thousand years ago… he was your true fiancé. Please don’t forget.”

With these words echoing in the room, silence descended.

Li He: “…”

What happened?

Why aren’t Mr. Su and Zhenlong speaking?

Looking left and right, although she didn’t quite understand the words just now, she felt like there might be some gossip to hear… But just as she was puzzled, Su Muluo raised a barrier with a wave of his hand, keeping her outside.

Outside the barrier, she couldn’t hear or see anything. Li He stood still for a few seconds, dragged over a chair, and silently sat down.

Inside the barrier, Su Muluo’s icy gaze fell on the demonic spirit, saying, “How pathetic, this is just your own imagination.”

The demonic spirit pulsated silently, as if someone behind it was laughing loudly, their voice tinged with mockery: “Though you’ve lost your memories, your eyes are still the same as before, unchanged.”

“However, it’s precisely because you’ve lost your memories that you’ve forgotten our past together, right?”

“Phoenix, I wonder if you’ve dreamed of me in your dreams?”

The mention of “Phoenix” made Su Muluo feel a wave of nausea. This disgust was a physiological reaction, just like when he heard that strange man call him “Phoenix” in his dreams before.

But in those dreams, he was alone, whereas now his dragon was by his side. Su Muluo immediately turned his gaze to Long Ling and found Long Ling’s eyes dark and stormy, which confused him.

Seeing his Phoenix’s emotions fluctuate, Long Ling knew he had misunderstood and immediately soothed him by taking his hand and softly reassuring him, “Phoenix, don’t worry, I don’t believe him, I just find him disgusting.”

In Long Ling’s eyes, the man behind the demonic spirit was as ugly as a dead c0ckroach and trying to lay claim to his Phoenix was laughable and disgusting.

Listening to his low and gentle words, feeling the warmth Long Ling’s dragon brought him as their fingers intertwined, Su Muluo’s originally unsettled heart suddenly calmed down, and he smiled faintly.

Then he leaned over and gently rubbed his forehead against Long Ling’s.

The demonic spirit: “…”

Perhaps they found such intimacy stimulating, as the person behind the demonic spirit didn’t speak for several seconds. But no one responded to him.

After this silence for a while, the person realized that if this continued, he might really be ignored. His voice turned colder: “Phoenix, don’t you want to know what happened a thousand years ago?”

Even if there are individuals of the same level as Zhenlong, as long as Mr. Su and another Zhenlong are here, plus the combined strength of all the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings, they won’t fear the other side.

The only concern now is whether that person will, as Su Muluo said, stir up trouble between humans and demons again.

“I will immediately report this situation to headquarters,” Li He sighed, “No matter what, it seems that the human world may really become turbulent.”

Su Muluo nodded slightly and said, “There’s one more thing, do you know about Suyuan?”

Li He asked in surprise, “What place is that? I’ve never heard of it before.”

Su Muluo said, “It’s a place left by that person. I plan to go there and see if I can find something about my past with my dragon.”

He didn’t elaborate further, and Li He didn’t press for more details. She knew she had already received enough useful information, and further inquiries would delve into Mr. Su’s private matters.

“Mr. Su, rest assured, we will find that place for you,” Li He said, “In addition, we will send out the elite of the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings to ensure your safety.”

Su Muluo said, “No need for protection, just me and my dragon will go.”

Li He wanted to say something more, but Long Ling said lightly, “With you around, it might become a burden.”

Li He: “…”

Seems a bit too real.

Afterward, the three separated. Li He went to report everything to Zheng Hechun, while Su Muluo, after obtaining Yang Yueyue’s hospital address, sent a message to Song Nan.

Upon receiving it, Song Nan immediately replied with a series of excited gratitude, even wanting to send money to Su Muluo as thanks, but Su Muluo refused.

He and his dragon came out of the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings and found it was still early, so they went to a coffee shop first.

“It feels like we’re going to go out again after just coming back,” in the coffee shop, Su Muluo looked at the empty shop and said, “Just came back for a day, and now we’re leaving again.”

Long Ling leaned his chin on Su Muluo’s shoulder and chuckled, “It’s okay, I’ll support the Phoenix in the future.”

Su Muluo looked at him and said, “How are you going to support me?”

Long Ling said, “I’ll have money soon, and then I can buy a big beautiful house for the Phoenix.”

There was a hint of pride in his tone.

But Su Muluo just took it as a joke and smiled, “Alright, then I want a house with a small yard. I can grow flowers and plants later.”

Long Ling readily agreed and kissed Su Muluo’s cheek.

Su Muluo was silent for a moment, feeling that since they kissed, this dragon had become more and more adept at taking advantage of him.

So he patted Long Ling, saying, “I suspect that person is manipulating the Elder, and he probably has more than one force.”

The incident of the Avian Clan’s transformation can be traced back fifty years ago, which means that person might have started acting around that time.

As for Long Ling’s hatching, although the Bureau of Strange Affairs had immediately suppressed the news, the aura of a true dragon’s birth had already shaken thousands of miles around… Other monsters might still be confused, thinking it could be the tremor caused by some millennium-old monster. But as a monster contemporaneous with Su Muluo and Long Ling, that person must have sensed it as the sign of a true dragon’s birth, immediately focusing their attention on Lin City.

Unlike Su Muluo and Long Ling who lost their memories, this person, on the contrary, knew many things that these two didn’t know. From the very beginning, they came prepared.

Long Ling said, “So does the Phoenix still plan to go to the place he mentioned, Su Yuan?”

Su Muluo nodded, “We will meet eventually. I’m not afraid of him. Besides, this place always gives me a very familiar feeling… Anyway, I want to go there and take a look.”

When he heard the words “Su Yuan,” it felt like hearing about his hometown. This place naturally attracted him, likely being where the Phoenix Clan once lived.

So no matter what schemes that person might have, he would find this place and uncover his past.

Long Ling hugged his own Phoenix without objection, smiling, “Wherever the Phoenix goes, I’ll follow.”

Like Su Muluo, he also felt a strong familiarity with Su Yuan and a sense of fondness.

Su Muluo made a sound of acknowledgment, remembering there was something else he hadn’t clarified with his dragon. “By the way, about that person mentioning a marriage contract between him and me…”

Before Su Muluo could finish, Long Ling interrupted, “Phoenix doesn’t need to say anything.”

Su Muluo looked at Long Ling, who gently touched his Phoenix’s forehead and said, “I don’t believe his words. Even without past memories, I know the Phoenix has always belonged to me alone.”

With their bond, there couldn’t possibly be a third party proposing a marriage.

Therefore, that person must be lying.

Su Muluo smiled at hearing this, realizing he had been thinking the same. He gently rubbed against Long Ling’s cheek, like a sticky little bird.

Long Ling: “!”

Long Ling felt his Phoenix was incredibly adorable, immediately taking advantage and saying, “I don’t want the Phoenix to rub against me, I want the Phoenix to kiss me!”

Su Muluo: “…”

Long Ling hugged him to prevent him from leaving and said, “I want the Phoenix to kiss me!”

Su Muluo stayed silent for a few seconds before saying, “There are people outside.”

Upon hearing this, Long Ling knew his Phoenix was willing, lightly laughing, “They won’t see us here. I’ll shield the Phoenix.”

Then he adjusted their position so his back faced the door, ensuring that people passing by wouldn’t notice what the two were doing inside the shop.

Su Muluo: “…”

He remained silent again, just looking down with his eyes lowered, his long eyelashes trembling slightly as Long Ling lifted his chin and slowly leaned in.

Long Ling’s hand rested between Su Muluo’s slender waist, feeling the warmth and breath of his Phoenix in his arms, lowering his head to kiss those soft lips.

His Phoenix could only belong to him alone.

Long Ling thought to himself.

No one could take him away.

The morning light was just right, and this kiss flowed gently like a stream, tender and intoxicating… But as they kissed, Su Muluo suddenly heard a voice.

He immediately turned his head—seeing an orange cat frozen at the coffee shop’s entrance, one paw half-raised in mid-air, completely motionless.

Su Muluo: “…”

Long Ling: “…”

Qiansui: “…”

Qiansui said, “I didn’t see anything. You can continue.”

Then swiftly turned around, using all four limbs to quickly run away.

Su Muluo: “…………”

Su Muluo looked quietly at Long Ling.

Long Ling’s heart skipped a beat, fearing his Phoenix might hit him, immediately hugging him tighter and not letting go.

Su Muluo said expressionlessly, “Go away. I won’t let you hug me!”

Long Ling replied, “I won’t let go. If the Phoenix isn’t angry, then I’ll let go.”

Su Muluo tried to pat him, saying, “I’m ignoring you!”

“But the Phoenix won’t ignore me,” Long Ling laughed, “Clearly, the Phoenix enjoyed that kiss just now.”

Su Muluo: “…”

Su Muluo was almost driven mad by him, so he decided to transform back to his original form. A little Phoenix flapped its wings and flew out of Long Ling’s embrace, reaching a place he couldn’t reach.

Long Ling: “!”

He thought his Phoenix was about to fly away and immediately felt remorseful. Unexpectedly, the little Phoenix just jumped onto his head and playfully messed up his hair with its small claws.

Long Ling: “…”

After messing up his hair, the little Phoenix angrily settled down there. Despite looking a bit ruffled, it was still round and very cute.

Long Ling remained silent for a moment.

He couldn’t help but start laughing.

Little Phoenix: “Chirp chirp chirp!”

Seeing Long Ling daring to laugh, it immediately angrily chirped and pecked Long Ling a few times.

Long Ling quickly suppressed his laughter, and very seriously said, “The Phoenix is right, I was wrong.”

Then he attempted to reach out and pet this shiny little Phoenix.

Little Phoenix: “Chirp!”

No touching you!

It spread its wings threateningly.

This threatening gesture almost made Long Ling burst into laughter again. However, to avoid being pecked by the Phoenix, he struggled hard to contain his amusement and said, “Does the Phoenix want to go back?”

Seeing his Phoenix looking so angry, it probably didn’t want to change back again.

The little Phoenix turned its head away, ignoring him.

Long Ling smiled slightly, with a fierce little Phoenix on his head, they returned to the rental.

Chapter 43 – The Betrothed

Chapter 43: The Betrothed

The living room was quiet, and Long Ling gently nudged the phoenix in his arms.

Su Muluo remained motionless.

Seeing him pretending to be indifferent like a quail, Long Ling couldn’t help but laugh. He affectionately nuzzled against Su Muluo’s hair and said, “Alright, I’ll wait until Phoenix is willing to talk to me.”

He wasn’t in a rush. Phoenix would definitely be his, and he believed Phoenix wouldn’t make him wait too long.

Su Muluo finally lifted his head slowly upon hearing this, glanced at Long Ling, and casually turned away as if nothing happened. “Remember to leave early tomorrow,” he said.

He planned to check on Yang Yueyue at the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings and then inform Song Nan.

Upon hearing this, Long Ling immediately put on a sulky face. “Going to the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings again?”

“Yes,” Su Muluo patted his head. “So remember to get up early.”

Long Ling: “…”

Tsk.

The next morning, Su Muluo led his dragon, whose face was filled with joy, into the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings.

Liu He was still waiting at the door. Upon seeing them enter together, even holding hands, she couldn’t help but gasp and then quickly pretended to cough loudly to cover it up.

“Cough cough cough, Mr. Su, you’re here,” Liu He smiled. “Long time no see. I didn’t see you last time I visited your coffee shop. Were you out somewhere?”

Upon hearing this, Su Muluo knew she and Zheng Hechun had indeed come to visit because of his dragon transformation. “Yes, I went to other places for a few days.”

Without waiting for Liu He to ask where exactly, he changed the subject. “By the way, about the tracing mirror last time, has Headquarters blamed you?”

“Not at all!” Liu He laughed cheerfully. “Not only that, the most uncivilized group ended up getting caught by the neighboring branch instead, hahaha!”

In fact, after they handed over the feather, Headquarters sent someone to talk to Zheng Hechun, insisting they must maintain good relations with Su Muluo and Long Ling. Any requests they had must be fulfilled, and they must not offend them.

“Since Mr. Su came, our treatment and bonuses in the Lincheng branch have improved a lot!” Liu He said. “So if you need anything, please let us know. As long as you ask, we’ll do our best!”

Su Muluo said, “Is that so? Show me the most uncivilized group next year, then.”

Liu He instantly fell silent.

Su Muluo smiled and said, “Take me to see Yang Yueyue.”

Liu He immediately nodded like a pecking chicken. “Please follow me.”

Initially, she thought with so many benefits they received, they should perhaps give something back to Mr. Su materially. But Zheng Hechun stopped her, saying Mr. Su wasn’t interested in wealth. Last time, helping them resolve the fox demon incident and receiving gratitude was reasonable, but if they gave money now, it might be seen as an offense.

Therefore, all they could do was cater to Su Muluo, fulfilling all his requests. Even if he had none, they must ensure he stayed comfortably and happily in Lincheng, feeling at home at the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings.

“Oh, Mr. Su, in the message I sent you earlier, did I mention that there have been incidents of demons harming people in other cities?” Liu He asked Su Muluo and Long Ling as they walked.

“In fact, we held a meeting because of this. It hasn’t been very peaceful in the human world recently. Not only are demons harming people, but there are also cases of demons possessing humans. Of course, those malevolent demons are all unregistered residents of our Bureau. Those holding identity cards are still living peacefully, but…”

Even so, this slight change was enough to subtly alter the harmonious relationship between humans and demons that had lasted for many years.

Su Muluo was somewhat surprised. “Is it serious now?”

“Not really,” Liu He said. “After all, malevolent incidents are still few. Perhaps one or two per city. It’s just that these incidents have occurred coincidentally within this week.”

Su Muluo fell silent. A week ago… wasn’t that when they were preparing to visit the Avian Clan?

He didn’t speak, and Long Ling asked, “Have you interrogated them to see if there’s an organized force behind them?”

Liu He hesitated and didn’t dare to converse much with him. She whispered, “We’ve interrogated them, but we haven’t found the situation you mentioned yet.”

In fact, those monsters only harmed people without causing any fatalities. They even inflicted only minor injuries, so initially, the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings didn’t pay much attention, chalking it up to new demons not adjusting to human cities and getting into arguments with humans… It was only yesterday at the Headquarters meeting that they summarized the situations from various places and realized that similar conditions had appeared in many cities.

Long Ling sneered softly. “Right now, it’s only harming people. By the time you discover something is wrong, it may have already escalated to murder.”

Although his tone was calm, Liu He shrank back. “You’re right, so Headquarters has already ordered us to detain all demons who have harmed people and question them again.”

The meeting had just ended when she received a message from Su Muluo and immediately had Yang Yueyue brought over.

A few minutes later, the three arrived at where Yang Yueyue was held. She was trapped by a faint golden web and struggled fiercely on the ground.

“Why do you bring me here! Let go of me, or I’ll…”

Afterward, a string of profanities followed, causing Liu He to frown and turn to explain to Su Muluo and Long Ling beside her, “This is a tool specifically for people possessed by demons. As long as it detects demonic energy, it will light up.”

Su Muluo glanced at the glowing golden net and asked, “Will the exorcism ritual later harm her?”

“Mr. Su, rest assured,” Liu He said. “This tool only affects the demon possessing her. At most, she’ll be a bit weak. After resting for a few days, she’ll be fine.”

Su Muluo felt relieved, feeling that the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings was indeed professional in handling such matters.

Next to Yang Yueyue stood a Bureau employee holding a pale golden bell, one end of which was entangled with silk threads and the golden net. “Can we begin?”

Liu He nodded. “Let’s begin.”

As soon as she finished speaking, the employee shook the golden bell in his hand.

The bell’s sound was peculiar; each ring seemed to overlap, piercingly sharp. For a moment, the room echoed with the ear-piercing chime.

Su Muluo didn’t find it disturbing, just a bit noisy. However, to Yang Yueyue, the bell’s sound felt like thousands of steel needles stabbing into her brain. Immediately, she screamed in agony.

“Ah! Ah! It hurts so much! Help! Help!!”

The glow of the golden net intensified, and golden lights moved along the grid, forming a magical seal over Yang Yueyue. Her body convulsed violently, while something twisted and distorted formed into a spirit in midair from her facial orifices.

Liu He was astonished. “She’s actually possessed by a ghost spirit?!”

Generally, when demons tried to possess humans, they would rely on something, like the bracelet someone wears, earrings, or even a puppet toy. But there’s also a more extreme method, which is to extract one’s own soul and dive into another person’s body, using this more direct means to control them… Of course, this also brings great risks to the demon.

However, this method also has its benefits. Because the possessing demon is in a soul state, when discovered and forcibly extracted from the human body, it can easily escape… just like now.

The demon automatically split into several pieces, wriggling out through the cracks in the golden net, then quickly gathering together and darting towards the door—

Just as it was about to escape through the door crack, an agent from the Bureau of Anomalies shook a golden bell in his hand, and a deep “clang clang” resounded throughout the room. The demon seemed to be caught by an invisible hand, writhing in pain, unable to move forward even a step.

At the same time, Yang Yueyue on the ground tilted her head, losing consciousness.

“Alright, spirit dispersion successful.” The bureau agent put away the golden net, saying, “I’ll take her to the hospital first.”

Liu He nodded, saying, “Remember to erase her memory and find a suitable reason… um, just say she encountered a ghost.”

The agent agreed, picked up Yang Yueyue from the ground, and quickly walked out.

In the room, there were only Su Muluo and two others left with the demon still struggling. It was covered with layers of golden threads at some point, unable to escape no matter what.

Liu He pinched the demon and asked, “Are you going to confess here, or do you want to wait and confess after we use some methods in the interrogation room?”

The demon stuttered, “I… you…”

It spewed out a bunch of words incoherently, but none of the three in the room understood.

Liu He frowned, “Can’t you speak human?”

The demon fell silent.

After a second, its body suddenly swelled up like an inflated balloon, on the verge of exploding in the blink of an eye.

“No! It’s going to self-destruct!”

The room surged with demon energy that could explode at the slightest touch, and Liu He’s expression changed completely, completely unprepared for the demon to actually self-destruct, instinctively trying to dodge aside.

Just then, Long Ling raised his hand. With a slight gesture, the inflated demon spirit suddenly shrank, unable to release its demon energy.

Liu He watched helplessly as the spirit writhed painfully in midair, wanting to explode but unable to, wanting to escape but unable to, shuddering and silently retreating to the side.

Luckily, Mr. Su is willing to help them… oh no, luckily Mr. Su is easy to talk to.

She thought.

If it weren’t for Mr. Su, no one could control this dragon, and the world would really be in trouble.

Thinking of this, she couldn’t help but feel respect for Su Muluo.

Su Muluo: “…”

Why does her gaze suddenly look so strange?

But his attention is not on Liu He now; it’s on the demon spirit, saying, “Who are you, and what is your purpose?”

The demon spirit remained silent, and Long Ling coldly said, “Speak.”

The next moment, the entire demon spirit was crushed into shapelessness by his powerful demon energy, a heart-wrenching scream echoing in the room, and Liu He silently covered her ears.

“I’ll talk… I’ll talk!!”

Struggling to squeeze out these words amidst the screams, Long Ling stopped, and it collapsed on the table like clay. After a few seconds, it trembled and said, “I am…”

Before it could finish, the demon spirit convulsed violently again, but this time, Long Ling did not act.

Su Muluo frowned; he felt a very powerful demon energy controlling this soul, and this demon energy’s origin was unknown, likely far from where they were.

Liu He also sensed this demon energy, feeling as if Mount Tai was pressing down on her, her face suddenly changing, bones rattling… but the next moment, Su Muluo lightly patted her shoulder, isolating her from the oppressive force brought by that demon energy.

In an instant, Liu He slumped in the chair, trembling for a long time before thanking Su Muluo.

She had never felt such terrifying demon energy before. Although she had faced a true dragon before, this demon energy might not be stronger than a true dragon, but the two were fundamentally different.

After all, when she faced the true dragon, the other party did not really intend to harm her, just a demonstration, with some restraint in the demon energy. But the demon energy just now… it treated her like an ant, disregarding her completely and crushing her directly.

What’s going on? Wasn’t it just a normal demon harming incident? How did it escalate to this?

What kind of existence did they provoke?

For a moment, Liu He’s thoughts were a tangled mess, unable to articulate anything. On the other hand, Su Muluo looked at the demon spirit, his gaze gradually turning icy.

He didn’t recognize this demon energy, nor did he know who was manipulating this demon spirit behind the scenes.

But one thing was certain—the other party was definitely malevolent.

Long Ling held Su Muluo’s hand, slightly moving forward, in a stance that protected his phoenix behind him.

“Don’t hide your head and show your tail,” he said coldly. “Who are you?”

“…”

The demon spirit twisted into a blurry face in midair, its features indistinguishable, only vaguely discernible as a man.

Obviously, this man did not fully control the demon spirit; he let it retain some self-awareness, tremblingly speaking for him: “I… convey a message on behalf of the master…”

“Soon, he will return to the mortal realm, and the conflict between demons and humans will begin again…”

Long Ling sneered at this, “Are all your subordinates such insignificant little demons of a century or two? It’s really embarrassing.”

This statement was directed at the man behind the demon spirit, but he did not respond, continuing to control the demon spirit.

“The master has one more thing to say… it’s for another master…”

The demon spirit convulsed as it turned slowly towards Su Muluo.

Su Muluo’s expression was cold, as if through this demon’s soul, he was locking eyes with another person—a gaze that he intensely disliked.

“The master says, he will come to pick you up soon.”

“Although you may have forgotten him, he kindly reminds you—”

“A thousand years ago, he was your true betrothed. Please, don’t forget again.”

Su Muluo: “…”

Long Ling: “…”

Liu He: “…”

Ah, what’s wrong?

The atmosphere seems a bit off, doesn’t it?

Chapter 42 – Kiss

Chapter 42: Kiss

“Phoenix… Are you running a fever?”

“…”

Upon hearing Long Ling’s words, Su Muluo didn’t respond immediately.

Long Ling looked down at his Phoenix, wanting to reach out and touch his forehead… but then Su Muluo bit him on the shoulder.

Long Ling: “?”

He sensed a hint of discontent in Su Muluo’s bite and met his gaze, finally realizing.

His Phoenix… didn’t seem to have a fever??

Then what could it be?

Long Ling’s hand brushed Su Muluo’s face, feeling the slightly higher temperature than usual, frowning slightly.

If it’s not a fever, then could it be…

A guess crossed Long Ling’s mind, and he was stunned for a moment, and suddenly he didn’t dare to speak.

Su Muluo on the sofa was sobered up by him for a short time, and soon fell into the same confused state as before.

Just like the previous two times of insomnia, his whole body seemed to be burned by flames, tossing and turning, unable to rest.

But there was one difference, that is, this time it was not painful, but a strange, completely indescribable feeling.

He had never experienced this feeling before, but vaguely knew what it meant.

After a while, Su Muluo’s soft black hair was wet with sweat and stuck to his fair face. His breathing became increasingly rapid, and the hand holding the corner of Long Ling’s clothes almost couldn’t hold it.

Long Ling was still a little at a loss when holding his Phoenix. He thought Phoenix had a fever just now, but there was a reason, and it was a bit aggrieved to say it.

Last time he thought Phoenix was in estrus, but he was beaten several times by Phoenix. Seeing the phoenix in a similar situation as before, of course he would not think in an improper direction because he had been beaten before.

But who could have thought that this time it seemed to be… so improper.

But why?

Long Ling was confused, he wanted to find out why his phoenix was in such a state. But it was obvious that the first thing to solve now was not this problem.

Su Muluo had buried his face deeply in Long Ling’s shoulder. The feeling tortured him to sweat. His breathing was trembling and broken. He curled up, and his originally fair skin was steamed with an attractive blush.

He didn’t say a word to Long Ling, but his posture and attitude were silent demands. He subconsciously relied on Long Ling and trusted his dragon unconditionally.

He was willing to entrust everything he had to the person in front of him.

Long Ling gently stroked Su Muluo’s cold and soft face, feeling that his phoenix was like a nestling seeking to snuggle and nest. All of a sudden, his heart was full of softness and the joy of being loved by his phoenix.

“Phoenix.”

Long Ling called his Phoenix softly, as if calling his most precious treasure, lowered his head, and kissed Su Muluo’s lips carefully and cherishingly.

Phoenix’s lips were as soft as his own, and Long Ling had imagined the taste many times in his mind. Although they had had several short kisses before, they were just a touch of the water. Only this one could be considered the first kiss between them.

The lips and teeth were intertwined, and the breath depended on each other. This kiss was gentle and affectionate, full of sweetness.

After the kiss, Long Ling opened his eyes and saw that his Phoenix’s face was flushed, and the soft lips were also red and swollen from his kiss, and the corners of his mouth suddenly raised.

“Phoenix.”

He called his beloved’s name affectionately, and his slender fingers buried in Su Muluo’s hair and rubbed gently, and then gradually moved down…

Just then, Su Muluo grabbed his arm and said, “I’m fine.”

Long Ling: “?”

Su Muluo was still panting, and the blush on her face did not fade, but she still pretended to be calm and said, “I’m not uncomfortable, let me go, I want to sleep.”

Long Ling: “???”

Long Ling tried to struggle and said, “Phoenix, don’t force yourself, I can be gentler…”

“No, I’m telling the truth,” Su Muluo said, “I’m really fine, you see my forehead is not hot anymore.”

He said that and pressed Long Ling’s hand on his face. Long Ling touched it, and sure enough, the temperature of Phoenix’s body was not as hot as before.

“…”

Long Ling was silent for a while, still couldn’t accept the fact that the phoenix in his mouth flew away like this, so he immediately refused to do it, hugged Su Muluo tightly and said: “Phoenix bullies people!”

The atmosphere was heated!

They also kissed!

He thought he could do this and that with the phoenix!

He felt grievance.

Su Muluo felt a little guilty, touched his head, coughed lightly and said: “I’m sorry, I don’t know why I suddenly became so…”

But the fact is that when he kissed his dragon, those abnormalities were appeased and disappeared from his body.

Perhaps, as the spirit of the jade pendant said, he could only relieve those conditions by getting close to his dragon. And kissing is also a slight degree of closeness.

Long Ling hummed unhappily, and buried his face in Su Muluo’s shoulder and rubbed it.

However, he didn’t mean to force Su Muluo to do this and that with him now. In any case, he had a real kiss with his phoenix, and he was still very happy.

So when he had rubbed enough, he raised his head and said, “What happened to the phoenix just now?”

Su Muluo was silent for a while, and decided to tell him what the spirit of the jade pendant said.

“Didn’t I sleep after I got the phoenix relic that day?” Su Muluo said, “In my dream, I saw the spirit of the jade pendant…”

He told him that the jade pendant was left by himself a thousand years ago, and that he and Long Ling were connected in spirit. But there was only one thing hidden, that is, to repair his soul, he could only do this and that with his dragon.

After hearing those words, Long Ling frowned, and the first question he was concerned about was exactly what Su Muluo had hidden: “Then how can I repair the soul of the phoenix?”

Su Muluo slightly moved his eyes away and said, “I don’t know, it didn’t tell me.”

Long Ling didn’t say anything, but just put his forehead against Su Muluo and stared into his eyes without blinking.

“…”

After a while, Su Muluo couldn’t stand it anymore and said, “It really didn’t tell me, really, there are many things it doesn’t know.”

Long Ling ignored this sentence and said directly, “Do you have to do that with me to repair the soul of Phoenix? But Phoenix is embarrassed to say it?”

Su Mulu: “…”

“Phoenix can’t lie to me.”

Long Ling’s dark golden eyes were deep, and he looked at Su Muluo with a focused and persistent look.

“But there is one thing I want to make clear to Phoenix.”

“I want to be close to Phoenix, not because I like to do this kind of thing… but because I like Phoenix.”

“I like Phoenix, I want Phoenix, and I want to hold Phoenix every day, so that Phoenix can only stay in my arms and can’t go anywhere.”

He said his possessiveness of Phoenix without reservation, his voice was slow and lingering, it was a whisper that only lovers can whisper.

“It is because I like Phoenix that I want to get more from Phoenix. I want Phoenix to give me all her eyes, leave all her joy and emotions on me, and Phoenix’s warmth and body… I want all of these.”

“But if Phoenix doesn’t want to, I can wait, and I am willing to wait. Because I know that Phoenix can’t escape.”

He approached Su Muluo, his breath pausing, His phoenix was completely trapped within his arms.

“Phoenix can only be mine, belonging to me alone.”

Su Muluo met Long Ling’s dark golden eyes. For a moment, he couldn’t find the words.

The gaze of his dragon was gentle but deep, like an abyss without bottom, almost pulling him in.

Yet, if he were truly engulfed by it… it wouldn’t be a bad thing.

Deep down, Su Muluo knew he liked it.

He enjoyed his dragon’s possessiveness, the intense love that could almost consume him. He liked his dragon asserting its sovereignty over him, even if it was a bit excessive.

He… liked only this one dragon.

Su Muluo remained silent for a long time. Just when Long Ling thought he might not respond at all, Su Muluo quietly leaned over, bowed his head, and buried his face in Long Ling’s shoulder.

The phoenix embraced him, completely relying on him.

Long Ling couldn’t help but smile uncontrollably when he saw this, gently returning the embrace of his soft phoenix, stroking the phoenix’s silky hair, and couldn’t resist kissing the top of his head.

“So, even if Phoenix is embarrassed, it can tell me,” Long Ling said. “I can wait, because Phoenix will surely be mine.”

His tone was filled with confident determination. Su Muluo listened silently, inhaling the mature and pleasant scent emanating from him.

He had hesitated for a long time whether to speak to Long Ling, fearing that Long Ling would be upset if he knew about his concealment. So even though he didn’t show it on the surface, he felt lost and worried deep down.

But now, everything was clear between them. Su Muluo felt all his previous confusion and uncertainty dissolve, now feeling incredibly reassured leaning against his dragon’s chest.

“Phoenix,” after holding his soft phoenix like this for a while, Long Ling remembered something and asked, “Did the jade pendant mention the reason for your serious injury?”

Su Muluo shook his head. “It said it didn’t know, including yours.”

Long Ling fell silent, then frowned. “I was too useless. If I could have protected Phoenix back then, Phoenix wouldn’t have suffered such serious injuries.”

“At that time, I was truly useless.”

Su Muluo fell silent, feeling like he had said these words to himself not long ago.

He lifted his head and comforted Long Ling by patting his head. “It’s okay. You were seriously injured at the time, and I couldn’t protect you either.”

Long Ling said coldly, “My injuries were because I was inferior, not Phoenix’s fault. But Phoenix’s serious injury must be because I’m too useless to protect him.”

Su Muluo slapped him lightly. “Don’t talk about yourself like that.”

Long Ling stared at him for a few seconds, then sighed, understanding that Su Muluo didn’t like those words. He changed the subject. “So when will Phoenix and I get to…?”

Su Muluo: “?”

“You just said you could wait, right?”

“I can certainly wait,” Long Ling said confidently, “but Phoenix can’t wait. Didn’t the jade pendant say Phoenix’s condition will only get worse? And just now, Phoenix’s condition at home also shows it’s right. What if something happens suddenly when Phoenix is outside…”

“Shut up!”

Su Muluo imagined that scenario and felt extremely embarrassed. He immediately covered Long Ling’s mouth to stop him from speaking.

Long Ling blinked, then kissed his phoenix’s palm.

Su Muluo: “…”

He quickly withdrew his hand, turned away, and pondered for a moment… finally whispered softly, “Wait a little longer… at least until Yang Yueyue’s matter is resolved.”

Upon hearing this, Long Ling clicked his tongue and said, “Phoenix mentioned another woman while we were being intimate.”

Su Muluo: “?” How did he even think of that?

Long Ling continued, “Phoenix must not like me anymore, only knows to mention other women!”

Su Muluo: “???”

Long Ling: “I don’t care! I’m not happy! I want Phoenix to kiss me a hundred times!!”

Su Muluo: “???”

He knew this dragon was always looking for trouble. He immediately tried to push him away and ignore him—but at that moment, his phone vibrated, indicating several messages had arrived.

Su Muluo had to temporarily stop and pick up his phone. He opened it and found that Liu He had replied to his messages.

[Sorry, Mr. Su, I was in a meeting just now and didn’t see your messages.]

[However, I understand the situation you mentioned. Such incidents are not limited to Lin City; many cities have recently reported incidents of monsters harming people.]

[We have brought Yang Yueyue back to the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings, and tomorrow we will perform a ritual to expel the monster attached to her… If you’re free, you can come to the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings tomorrow morning to see her.]

After reading Liu He’s messages, Su Muluo fell silent for a second.

Did he promise his dragon too early just now?

“Oh, you’ve already caught someone?” Long Ling grinned beside him. “Did Phoenix just say… after this matter is resolved, we can do this and that?”

Su Muluo: “…”

Su Muluo met Long Ling’s smiling eyes and fell silent for a moment, burying his face in Long Ling’s chest.

Motionless, he began to play dead.

Chapter 41 – Longing...

Chapter 41: Longing…

During Su Muluo’s absence these days, although Qiansui kept the coffee shop open, business wasn’t as good as before. Calculating the earnings from this period, he found it wasn’t enough to buy more than a few cans of cat food. So, he added some money himself and sent Qiansui a WeChat red envelope.

Qiansui must have registered with the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings to live in Lin City, and he had an ID card. Since Huang Gaigai left, he had even bought himself a mobile phone, though he rarely used it.

Compared to living as a human, he still preferred being with the cats on the street. However, having a phone was necessary. This way, when Su Muluo sent him a red envelope, he could also buy his favorite cat food.

It was afternoon now, and there were few customers in the shop. Su Muluo calmly wiped the coffee cups, while Long Ling stood beside him, wearing a look of deep resentment.

Just moments ago, he had been tied up and hung outside the door, enduring half a minute of cold wind. Now, he was very unhappy and deeply yearned for Phoenix’s comforting kiss.

However, his Phoenix paid him no attention, continuing to wipe the coffee cups.

After a while, two familiar figures entered the shop. Su Muluo smiled slightly upon seeing their faces and said, “Welcome.”

The two girls were Song Nan and Yang Yueyue, the first customers at his coffee shop and the first to order his special coffee. Song Nan especially became a regular customer afterward, bringing Su Muluo quite a few clients with issues like baldness, insomnia, and cervical spondylosis.

Although Song Nan hadn’t been coming as often recently, Su Muluo still remembered them.

However, today Song Nan seemed off, and so did Yang Yueyue beside her. Once close friends who used to walk hand in hand and show affection, they now seemed distant, and even outsiders could sense the tension between them.

“Boss, long time no see.” Song Nan greeted Su Muluo wearily and ordered, “Two cups of special coffee, no sugar.”

Only after speaking did she notice the black-clad man standing next to Su Muluo. She hesitated for a moment, feeling the man exuded a cold aura that was intimidating upon first glance, yet his gaze towards the boss was surprisingly gentle, almost… like that towards a lover.

Song Nan wondered briefly but had no energy to delve deeper into it now. After hastily paying, she headed straight for a window seat without acknowledging Yang Yueyue beside her.

Yang Yueyue followed with a cold expression. They didn’t seem like they were here for coffee; it was more like a negotiation.

Su Muluo sensed something had happened between these two girls, possibly involving privacy. So after preparing the two cups of special coffee, he avoided eavesdropping on their conversation intentionally.

Song Nan chose a seat at a distance from the bar counter. Initially, neither of them spoke, but eventually, it was Song Nan who broke the silence… As their conversation progressed, their voices gradually grew louder, escalating into a heated argument.

“We’ve been friends for thirteen years! What have I done to deserve this from you?!”

“Ridiculous! Look at yourself in the mirror before saying that. Do you even deserve it?”

“Aren’t you afraid this will get out and everyone will know what kind of person you are?”

“Stop it. They’ll only laugh at you for being incapable of keeping a man!”

After a fierce argument, Yang Yueyue sneered and turned to leave. Song Nan immediately grabbed her arm, saying, “Don’t go! We’re not finished!”

Yang Yueyue sneered disdainfully, “I have nothing more to say to you!”

Song Nan took out her phone, saying, “I recorded it! If you dare to leave, I’ll send this recording to him right now!”

Yang Yueyue paused in her steps, turned around, and faced Song Nan.

In that moment, her expression was almost inhuman, her pupils dilated, her gaze cold and even eerie.

moment, then calmly wiped the coffee cups, while Long Ling stood beside him with a face full of lingering resentment.

He had just been tied up and left hanging outside, enduring a chilly wind for a good half-minute. Now, he was in a foul mood and deeply desired the comfort of Phoenix’s affectionate kiss.

But his Phoenix ignored him completely, continuing to wipe the coffee cups.

After a while, a few customers entered the shop. They were two familiar figures.

Upon seeing their faces, Su Muluo smiled faintly and greeted, “Welcome.”

The two girls were Song Nan and Yang Yueyue. They were the first to visit his coffee shop and the first to order his special coffee. Song Nan had become a regular customer, even bringing Su Muluo many clients suffering from issues like baldness, insomnia, and cervical spondylosis.

However, today, Song Nan seemed off, and so did Yang Yueyue beside her. Formerly close friends who used to walk hand in hand and show affection, they now exuded a palpable tension that even strangers could perceive.

“Boss, long time no see,” Song Nan greeted with a weary expression. She ordered, “Two cups of special coffee, no sugar.”

Only after speaking did she notice the black-clad man standing next to Su Muluo. She hesitated for a moment, feeling the man emitted a cold aura that was intimidating at first sight. Yet his gaze towards the boss was surprisingly gentle, almost… like that towards a lover.

Song Nan was startled and took a step back. At that moment, Yang Yueyue seized the untouched cup of coffee and splashed it towards her.

The coffee was scalding hot. If it had splashed on her face, it would have been very embarrassing, if not disfiguring. Song Nan screamed and instinctively closed her eyes.

In that moment, she even thought she was in great danger. However, after a few seconds, the imagined burns did not appear.

“…”

Song Nan cautiously opened her eyes and realized that the coffee shop owner had somehow appeared beside her. The cup of coffee hadn’t splashed on her head but had spilled all over the floor, splattering Yang Yueyue’s red skirt.

“Sorry, this is just a coffee shop,” Su Muluo said coldly. “We don’t welcome troublemaking customers.”

He directed these words at Yang Yueyue. After listening, she glared coldly at Song Nan, neither apologizing nor saying anything further, then turned and left without looking back.

Song Nan watched her leave, then looked down at the steaming coffee on the ground and the shattered remnants of the coffee cup. Suddenly, she realized what her former close friend had done to her… Her legs weakened, and she slumped into a chair.

Su Muluo asked, “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine…” Song Nan replied weakly, “Sorry, boss, for causing you trouble… I’ll compensate you for this cup.”

“No need, it’s not much money,” Su Muluo said. “But what happened between you and your friend? Why the conflict?”

Song Nan shook her head, obviously reluctant to say more. As she tried to get up to leave, Su Muluo stopped her.

“Your friend is acting strange,” Su Muluo said bluntly. “If you just leave like this, I can’t guarantee what might happen later.”

Song Nan was startled and immediately looked at Su Muluo, hesitating. “Boss, when you say ‘acting strange,’ do you mean—”

Su Muluo interrupted, “You should know well. Has she changed her behavior drastically recently?”

In fact, when Yang Yueyue splashed the coffee earlier, he felt something was very wrong—because he sensed a demonic aura from Yang Yueyue.

Although the aura only appeared for a moment, Su Muluo was sure it emanated from Yang Yueyue. However, the aura disappeared quickly, and he couldn’t detect it anymore.

This situation was quite strange because when Su Muluo first met Yang Yueyue, she was just a normal person without any demonic aura.

If Yang Yueyue was like Lin Chengcheng, a half-demon who had not awakened her demonic powers before, it would be even less likely—because once the demonic power of a half-demon awakened, demonic aura naturally emanated from their bodies, an irreversible change.

Just like when Su Muluo met Lin Chengcheng before awakening, he didn’t realize he was a demon. After awakening, the demonic aura appeared on his body, which made Su Muluo see that he was a bird demon… But Yang Yueyue is different, Su Muluo can’t see her prototype at all.

Of course, powerful demons can hide their demonic aura, not noticed by others. Obviously, Yang Yueyue did not have this strength because there was no strong demon aura on her.

In other words, Yang Yueyue is still an ordinary person, but may be related to demons… Or, possessed by demons.

This is Su Muluo’s preliminary guess, but he did not tell Song Nan these guesses, after all, the existence of demons can not be leaked.

Song Nan listened to Su Muluo’s words was surprised, said: “Really so! Yue Yue, she recently changed her temper, I almost do not know her!”

Eyes widening, he realized this situation was not simple.

Yang Yueyue must have indeed been possessed by a demon, but how could such trouble-causing creatures reappear within the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings?

Regardless, this matter should be handed over to the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings for handling.

“So, give me her address and contact number,” Su Muluo said, “Don’t meet her in these few days. If there’s any situation, come find me.”

Song Nan exchanged contact information with him, still concerned, “Boss, are you going to help Yueyue get rid of the demon? What if something happens to her?”

Though she had just been splashed with coffee by Yang Yueyue, she knew her friend didn’t really mean harm, likely worrying about her friend’s situation after being possessed by a demon.

Su Muluo reassured, “Don’t worry, I will report to the appropriate organization to ensure her safety.”

Song Nan: “There’s an organization too!”

It must be some powerful ghost-catching organization!

Gratefully, she said, “Thank you, Boss. Please let me know if there’s any progress!”

Su Muluo nodded, watching her leave, then sent a message to Liu He.

In reality, being possessed by a demon was a very troublesome situation. If the demon fully occupied a human body, it could easily kill its host. Su Muluo didn’t yet know the extent of Yang Yueyue’s possession, so for her safety, he couldn’t intervene casually.

Therefore, he chose to contact the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings immediately. Besides, they should have more experience in dealing with such matters than he did.

After sending the message, Liu He, who usually responded instantly, didn’t reply promptly. Su Muluo guessed she must be occupied, then glanced at Long Ling, saying, “Mop the floor.”

The spilled coffee hadn’t been cleaned up yet.

Long Ling: “I won’t.”

He had just been left hanging by Phoenix on the door handle!

Outrageous!

Su Muluo met his gaze, saying nothing.

“…”

Moments later, Long Ling reluctantly took the mop and cleaned the floor.

But it wouldn’t be in vain. At 7 PM, Su Muluo returned to his long-unseen rental house… only to be pounced on the couch by his dragon.

Su Muluo: “?”

Long Ling pinned him down, tightly embracing him. With their noticeable size difference, he couldn’t break free.

So he futilely pushed Long Ling away, saying, “Let go.”

“I won’t,” Long Ling said, “Phoenix tied me up, made me hang on the door handle, and even made me mop the floor! I’m not happy!”

Su Muluo said, “That’s because you took advantage of me first!”

Long Ling retorted, “I didn’t! It’s because I like Phoenix. It’s all Phoenix’s fault for being so good-looking that I can’t control myself.” Then confidently added, “Besides, Phoenix has kissed me and even stole a kiss while I was asleep. Phoenix is the one taking advantage of me!”

Su Muluo wanted to hit him upon hearing this but couldn’t do anything while trapped in his arms… so he angrily bit Long Ling’s shoulder.

Long Ling fell silent. Phoenix’s bite was gentle, feeling like he was scratched by a soft little kitten, even causing him to lose control and lightly bite Su Muluo’s lips in return.

Su Muluo: “…”

Taking advantage again!

For the fourth time!!!

He immediately wanted to transform back and fly away. However, at that moment, a strange sensation surged from within him… Suddenly, his expression changed.

Long Ling only heard a light hum from Phoenix, seemingly in pain, curling up immediately and letting go, asking worriedly, “Phoenix, did I hurt you?”

He was somewhat flustered, concerned about what might have happened to his Phoenix… However, upon seeing Su Muluo’s current state, he froze.

A flush of crimson spread across Su Muluo’s fair face, his usually beautiful and cool ink-black eyes now shimmering with a hint of watery ripple.

His Phoenix curled up on the couch, trembling all over, eyes tinged with red, like a ripe, intoxicating fruit emitting a tantalizing allure.

Long Ling: “…Phoenix?”

“…”

Su Muluo didn’t reply.

His mind felt heavy and hazy, recalling the words spoken by the spirit of the jade pendant.

An unstable soul would bring many complications. Having Long Ling by his side could only temporarily alleviate those issues, but it wouldn’t solve them fundamentally… Someday, his condition would worsen.

Could it be… now?

Su Muluo’s eyelashes trembled slightly, his fragmented breathing becoming slightly urgent as he turned his scattered gaze towards Long Ling, soon tightly embraced by his dragon.

The mature and reassuring aura of the man enveloped him, long fingers gently rubbing against his hair. Su Muluo trembled, gripping Long Ling’s clothes tightly, whimpering.

At the same time, he heard Long Ling’s deep and concerned voice by his ear:

“Phoenix… Are you running a fever?”

Su Muluo: “…”

Chapter 40 – Kiss me!

Chapter 40: Kiss me!

To prevent himself from really being “murdered” by the phoenix, Long Ling decisively grabbed Su Muluo’s arm and pulled him into his embrace.

Su Muluo hadn’t planned to suffocate him with a pillow for long. Caught off guard by being pulled into Long Ling’s embrace, he pushed him away, saying, “Get away.”

“I won’t,” Long Ling leaned close to Su Muluo’s ear and chuckled softly, “What was the phoenix doing just now?”

Su Muluo remained silent.

Long Ling continued, “Is the phoenix trying to seduce me?”

Su Muluo still stayed silent.

“Is the phoenix admiring me and planning some strange things—”

Before he could finish the last sentence, Su Muluo couldn’t keep quiet anymore. He grabbed a pillow and covered Long Ling’s head again.

“Shut up!”

Long Ling didn’t speak for a few seconds.

Then he burst out again, “The phoenix just wants to seduce me.”

Su Muluo sighed.

Su Muluo angrily pulled at the feather bracelet on Long Ling’s wrist.

This move always worked like a charm. Long Ling was immediately startled and protected his bracelet, saying, “If the phoenix breaks it, you have to compensate!”

It was a beautiful bracelet made of feathers by the phoenix, his first gift to Long Ling!

Su Muluo said expressionlessly, “If it breaks, it breaks. I won’t compensate.”

Long Ling cautiously hid his feather bracelet in his sleeve, then grabbed Su Muluo’s hand, a bit upset. “The phoenix always bullies me.”

“It’s clearly you bullying me,” Su Muluo retorted.

“I would never bully the phoenix. I haven’t even complained about the phoenix teasing me,” Long Ling insisted.

Su Muluo clicked his tongue.

Regretting deeply, Su Muluo immediately turned his back to Long Ling, lying on the bed, not wanting anyone’s love, and closed his eyes to sleep.

Long Ling hugged him from behind, sticky as glue, saying, “Want the phoenix to seduce you.”

Su Muluo acted as if he didn’t hear.

Long Ling continued, “I promise the phoenix, this time I definitely won’t open my eyes.”

Su Muluo acted as if he didn’t hear.

“I’m sorry! I was wrong! I want the phoenix to seduce me!” Long Ling pleaded.

Su Muluo still acted as if he didn’t hear.

Long Ling sighed.

Long Ling affectionately nuzzled his face against Su Muluo’s shoulder, silently regretting that if he had known the phoenix was so easily scared, he shouldn’t have opened his eyes just now.

Why did he open his eyes? If he hadn’t, the phoenix would have already seduced him!

When teasing the phoenix, he was very happy, but after the reaction, he felt like tying himself into a knot. But regret was useless now. Long Ling could only regretfully hold onto his phoenix, close his eyes—

It was at this moment that Su Muluo turned around, swiftly pecked him on the lips.

Then he turned his head, burying his entire self under the blanket, curling up into a soft ball.

Long Ling: “!”

The soft touch lingered, leaving him stunned on the spot. He looked at the phoenix buried in the blanket, and suddenly, a surge of joy welled up in his heart, as if breaking open a block of honey, all sweet flavors.

The warmth still lingered on his lips. Long Ling couldn’t help but chuckle softly, holding Su Muluo tightly, his voice full of joy: “Phoenix looks so good, I love Phoenix the most!”

Su Muluo remained silent, quietly burying his face in the pillow, not letting his dragon see his slightly red face.

As the night passed, Long Ling woke up the next day feeling like he had spent a very beautiful night, exceptionally clear-headed.

“Phoenix,” he affectionately pecked Su Muluo’s hair, smiling, “did you sleep well?”

Su Muluo glanced at him and said, “Not really.”

“Phoenix wouldn’t sleep poorly,” Long Ling said, “you even crawled into my arms in your sleep yesterday, clinging to my clothes.”

There was a hint of pride in his tone.

Su Muluo: “?”

“I didn’t!”

“Where didn’t Phoenix,” Long Ling said, “Phoenix kissed me last night!”

He leaned over again, gently brushing his soft hair, saying, “Still want more kisses from Phoenix?”

Su Muluo met his gaze for a second, then turned his head away, ignoring him and getting out of bed.

A smile flickered in Long Ling’s eyes. It didn’t matter if the phoenix didn’t initiate kisses now; after all, the phoenix had kissed him last night.

He was kissed by his own phoenix!

Very proud.

Afterward, Su Muluo and Long Ling stayed with the avian clan for two days, but there was still no trace of Muge. They couldn’t stay here forever, so they bid farewell to Lin Chengcheng and Feng Xuan, preparing to return.

At the parting, Lin Chengcheng was somewhat reluctant, holding her black cat and saying, “Boss, we will see each other again. When I have time, I’ll bring the avian people to your place for coffee!”

Feng Xuan also said, “The avian clan remembers the kindness of both of you. If you need any help in the future, we will surely do our utmost.”

Su Muluo nodded and said, “Take care. If there’s any news about Muge, contact me immediately.”

He felt that Muge and the person behind the Elder were not simple, especially with the phoenix relic in the avian clan, which required them to be more cautious.

Feng Xuan nodded solemnly and said, “Mr. Su, rest assured.”

They bid farewell to Su Muluo and Long Ling, watching their figures disappear from sight. Lin Chengcheng sighed with some melancholy, then looked at Feng Xuan, noticing his furrowed brow and serious expression.

Lin Chengcheng couldn’t help but ask curiously, “Elder, are you still worried about not finding Muge?”

“…His disappearance is too suspicious; we have to be more vigilant,” Feng Xuan said, “What’s most terrifying is that I only now found out there’s someone else behind the Grand Elder. For all these years, that person has never shown themselves… Are they targeting our avian clan, or do they have a bigger agenda?”

Lin Chengcheng’s heart skipped a beat upon hearing Feng Xuan’s words. “So… what should we do next?”

Feng Xuan remained silent for a long while, then shook his head. “I don’t know either. That person operates in darkness while we’re in the light. Their strength must surpass ours… We can only stay alert and take it step by step.”

He sighed heavily and said nothing more, escorting Lin Chengcheng back.

In the depths of the forest, where daylight could not reach,

A figure covered in mud staggered through the mountains and forests until he stumbled upon a cave. He collapsed to his knees, his face showing relief as if a great burden had been lifted.

If Feng Xuan were here, he would recognize him as the traitor, Muge, whom the avian clan had searched for in vain for days.

This place was thousands of miles away from the avian clan’s territory.

“Thank you for helping me escape,” Muge gasped for breath, looking up at the pitch-black cave. “The Grand Elder is dead, and the Phoenix relic is now in the hands of the one who killed him. There are two powerful demons involved… but their identities are unknown.”

Silence filled the cave.

Muge continued, “I suspect they are the ones you’re looking for, my lord. Rest assured, once I recover, I will—”

Before he could finish his sentence, he abruptly stopped.

He would never finish that sentence in his life.

A red gash appeared on Muge’s neck, rapidly spreading from a short segment to a full gash across his throat. It was as if an invisible blade had sliced through his neck. The next moment, blood sprayed, staining his shocked face red.

He died, not even knowing how it happened.

Blood colored the ground in front of the cave, while inside, the silence remained profound and deathly.

After a few days away, Su Muluo’s first order of business upon returning to Lin City was to visit the coffee shop.

He had expected his own coffee shop to be closed with grass growing at the door. To his surprise, when he arrived, he found it open, not only open but with three or four customers inside.

Three or four customers!

Su Muluo walked in, extremely surprised, and saw a young man behind the counter brewing coffee—it was none other than Qiansui.

Su Muluo: “…”

Su Muluo glanced at Long Ling.

Long Ling: “?”

Why did that glance from his Phoenix seem a little disdainful?

Why did he suddenly feel inexplicably disliked by his Phoenix???

Long Ling immediately grasped Su Muluo’s hand with a look of grievance. “Phoenix, why do you think I took advantage of the Phoenix again?”

Su Muluo replied, “Look, Qiansui can brew coffee now, but you still don’t know how to do anything. You always hug him when he’s brewing coffee, taking advantage of him.”

Clearly, he was a lazy and improper dragon.

Long Ling: “…”

Whether he couldn’t refute or was thinking about something, he fell silent for a moment.

Su Muluo patted his head, walked up to the counter, and saw Qiansui skillfully making coffee. “Did you learn this by yourself?”

Qiansui knew they would return today. “I’ve watched him do it many times before, even a fool could learn.”

The “him” referred to the former coffee shop owner, Huang Gaigai.

Su Muluo then checked the sales from the past few days. Though not much, it was better than nothing. “You can use this money to buy cat food.”

“I’ll take half, after all, the ingredients and the store are yours.” Qiansui said, “They all came because of you. I told them your special coffee material wasn’t enough, so I went back to get the ingredients.”

Su Muluo said nothing, thinking his feathers were falling a lot right now, not to mention the specialty coffee he had been making for ten years. A hundred years may be enough.

Moreover, it was not worth it to sell.

As soon as Qiansui made the coffee, he turned into a cat and ran away. There were few customers in the store now. Long Ling hugged Su Muluo’s waist, leaning against his Phoenix’s face.

Su Muluo turned his head, “Don’t rub against me.”

“I don’t,” Long Ling smiled, “Who made the Phoenix despise me just now? I’m hurt, and the Phoenix should make it up to me.”

Su Muluo wanted to push him away, but he was held by the wrist and gently rubbed against the skin.

Then, to hide his blush, Su Muluo buried his face into Long Ling’s shoulder.

  Long Ling: “?”

He didn’t expect his Phoenix to suddenly embrace him without reason, so he happily hugged Su Muluo tightly and said, “Is the Phoenix trying to seduce me?”

  Su Muluo: “… Definitely not.”

”But the Phoenix is actively sticking to me,” Long Ling said, “there’s a fee for sticking to me, five yuan per second!”

  Su Muluo: “…”

His slight embarrassment completely dissipated, and he expressionlessly patted Long Ling on the shoulder.

This dragon always takes advantage of every opportunity. When it really comes down to it, he’ll definitely be worse than he is now!

Even unimaginably worse!

No, I can’t let this dragon have his way so easily. I need to wait a little longer.

So Su Muluo immediately turned around and ignored Long Ling.

Long Ling still didn’t realize what he had missed. He continued affectionately clinging to Su Muluo, feeling that today’s phoenix was both sticky and cute, unable to resist wanting to get closer to his phoenix.

He stared at Su Muluo’s handsome profile for a while.

The phoenix’s lips were soft, making him want to get closer.

Long Ling thought to himself.

Moreover, the phoenix had kissed him before, and just now he had actively stuck to him, so a little intimacy… shouldn’t be a problem, right?

Thinking this, Long Ling quickly leaned over and lightly bit Su Muluo’s lip.

Indeed, they were soft!

Then unable to resist, he bit again lightly.

Su Muluo: “……”

He looked at Long Ling, who blinked innocently, as if nothing had happened. “What’s the phoenix looking at me for?”

After saying that, Long Ling took advantage of Su Muluo’s unguarded moment and lightly bit for a third time.

Su Muluo: “…………”

He said nothing, did not react, but calmly cast an illusionary technique on Long Ling.

——A moment later, a small black dragon was twisted into a pretzel and hung outside the coffee shop door, clinging to the handle, whimpering and making a fuss.

Chapter 39 – Murder of the Spirit Dragon

Chapter 39: Murder of the Spirit Dragon

After a suffocating silence, Su Muluo suddenly reached out to grasp the spirit within the jade pendant.

The spirit within the jade pendant was already prepared and hastily retreated three steps, saying, “Wait, wait! Everything I said is true! Please don’t get agitated!”

Su Muluo remained expressionless. “Is that so? I suspect you’re deceiving me.”

“I’m not deceiving you! How could I deceive you?” The spirit of the jade pendant said with grievance, “You told me this yourself back then!”

Su Muluo: …

Did he really say that?

“It’s true! Back then, you knew that after entering the cycle of reincarnation, you would lose your memory, so you told me in advance how to repair your soul!” The spirit of the jade pendant moved frantically and said, “As long as you and Lord Long Ling… um… engage physically, merging your bodies as one, this can repair your soul and prevent Lord Long Ling from instinctively devouring your life force… In fact, that’s what you and Lord Long Ling did back then!”

Su Muluo: ???

“You saw it all?!”

“No, no! Of course not! How would I dare to look!” The spirit of the jade pendant quickly shook its non-existent head and said, “But this isn’t a secret, after all, Lord Long Ling is always around you, and you never refuse him—”

Su Muluo remained silent.

He felt that the jade pendant knew too much.

He strongly desired to silence the jade pendant forever.

The spirit of the jade pendant probably sensed his intentions and silently drifted further away, saying, “Anyway, that’s how it is. If you can’t accept it now, you can make a decision later, but you can’t delay too long, otherwise it won’t be good for you or Lord Long Ling.”

Su Muluo remained silent for a while again, without responding to its words, but changed the subject, “You mentioned that I gave half of my lifeblood to him back then… Was he severely injured?”

The spirit of the jade pendant said, “Yes, Lord Long Ling was severely injured back then, almost dying. It was you who used half of your own life to forcefully prolong his life, saving him.”

Su Muluo frowned. “How did he get injured? Who hurt him?”

The spirit of the jade pendant paused and said, “I don’t know that. You didn’t tell me… After all, I was created by you after Lord Long Ling was severely injured.”

Su Muluo felt somewhat regretful. He had intended to ask the most important question to him, but seeing that the spirit of the jade pendant didn’t know, he had to change the subject, “Who was I back then?”

“You were a Phoenix!” The spirit of the jade pendant suddenly became excited, “The most beautiful Phoenix I’ve ever seen!”

Su Muluo thought this was somewhat obvious and curiously asked, “How many Phoenixes have you seen?”

The spirit of the jade pendant thought for a moment and said, “Only one.”

Su Muluo: Alright, that was indeed obvious.

He proceeded to ask the spirit of the jade pendant several more questions, all of which, as expected, were met with ignorance. It seemed that apart from knowing he was a Phoenix and Long Ling was a Dragon, the jade pendant didn’t know much else.

The spirit of the jade pendant probably felt it was quite useless to not know anything he asked, and said with a bit of self-pity, “But… you’re different now from back then. Back then, you had silver hair, and now it’s turned black.”

Su Muluo asked without much hope, “Do you know why?”

“No, I don’t really know,” the spirit of the jade pendant’s voice gradually weakened, “I only know that back then, both you and Lord Long Ling were severely injured, and because your strength was nearly exhausted, your hair turned silver… That’s just my guess.”

Su Muluo looked at it but remained silent.

The spirit of the jade pendant met his gaze and whispered after a few seconds, “Well, I don’t know why you were severely injured.”

After saying that, it seemed to feel very useless and let out a little whimper.

Su Muluo felt a bit sorry for the jade pendant, raised his hand to touch it, and smiled, “You’ve told me a lot already. Thank you.”

The spirit of the jade pendant suddenly jumped up and said, “Really? That’s great!”

It jumped in place for a few seconds, its light suddenly dimmed, and it exclaimed, “Oh no,” saying, “My time is up. I need to sleep for a few days to gather enough power for my next manifestation.”

It circled Su Muluo again for a moment, seeming reluctant, and said softly, “Phoenix Lord, until we meet again.”

As soon as it finished speaking, the spirit returned to the jade pendant, and Su Muluo opened his eyes.

“Phoenix.”

The first thing he saw upon opening his eyes was someone hugging him, nuzzling affectionately against his face.

“Awake? Are you still sleepy?”

Su Muluo stared into Long Ling’s dark golden eyes, recalling what the spirit of the jade pendant had said in his dream, and fell silent for a moment.

Then he lightly slapped him.

Long Ling: ?

Why did he wake up just to be hit?

“I’m hitting you,” Su Muluo said, “because you’re lecherous.”

The spirit of the jade pendant had made it clear: this dragon had taken advantage of his soft heart thousands of years ago, pestering him day in and day out, pushing boundaries and enjoying the taste… It was truly despicable.

Long Ling: ???

Wait, when was he lecherous?!

Clearly, all this time he had only wanted affection from the Phoenix, and most of the time, he couldn’t even get that!

Thus, he immediately grasped Su Muluo’s wrist in grievance and said, “The Phoenix must have had a bad dream and blamed it on me… I’m not happy!”

Su Muluo: Oh.

Long Ling: I want the Phoenix’s affection!

Su Muluo: “No.”

Long Ling: Tsk.

So indifferent.

Feeling quite unhappy, Long Ling hugged his Phoenix tightly, burying his head in his shoulder and rubbing against him.

Su Muluo patted his head, recalling his conversation with the spirit of the jade pendant earlier… He decided not to tell his dragon about those words for now.

After all, he wasn’t fully prepared yet, and the spirit of the jade pendant had suggested waiting for a while longer.

Most importantly… they were about to do that kind of thing.

Too intimate!

Thinking this, Su Muluo silently gave Long Ling another pat.

Long Ling obediently let him pat, thinking that perhaps the Phoenix had dreamt of something strange but didn’t want to tell him… It must be related to him.

Moreover, he felt that his Phoenix seemed a bit shy after waking up?

Lightly rubbing Su Muluo’s wrist with his fingertip, Long Ling speculated various things in his mind. Finally, he slightly lifted his chin to rest against Su Muluo’s hair and said, “Phoenix, there’s a bird tribe banquet tonight. Would you like to attend?”

Su Muluo asked, “Will there be food?”

Long Ling replied, “There should be. Feng Xuan said it’s a banquet to thank us.”

Su Muluo had no objections. “Then let’s go.”

Later that evening, Feng Xuan brought Lin Chengcheng and others to invite the two of them to the banquet. Despite the recent death of the Elder, the bird tribe was flourishing, and the banquet was still grand. It showed how much the bird tribe valued and appreciated them.

During the banquet, Su Muluo ate the dishes Long Ling served him and heard Feng Xuan say to them, “Mr. Su, we haven’t located the whereabouts of Muge temporarily… We may need you to wait a little longer.”

Su Muluo replied, “It’s okay. But if we don’t find anything the day after tomorrow, we will leave.”

In the end, whether there were people behind the Elder was just speculation, and whether that person had any connection with them was also uncertain. After all, the events had occurred entirely within the bird tribe and had not affected them.

Now that he had obtained what he wanted, they couldn’t stay here indefinitely; it was time to go back.

Feng Xuan nodded, saying, “Mr. Su, rest assured. We will inform you as soon as we find out about Muge’s whereabouts.”

Su Muluo acknowledged with a “good,” having already exchanged contact information with Lin Chengcheng and Feng Xuan via WeChat. Even if they returned, they could still stay in touch with the bird tribe at any time.

After a while, several bird tribe members entered carrying trays. Each tray held an exquisite small cup and a semi-transparent white jade jug filled with clear, faintly red liquor. Before they came close, a fragrant and intoxicating aroma wafted through the air.

Seeing Lin Chengcheng curiously eyeing the jug, Feng Xuan poured a cup for her and smiled at Su Muluo and Long Ling, “This is our bird tribe’s unique fruit wine, sweet and refreshing, not too strong. Both of you should try it.”

The brightly colored fruit wine was poured into a translucent white jade wine pot, looking very tempting. Su Muluo’s eyes gleamed as he reached out—just as the wine pot in front of him was taken away.

Su Muluo: “?”

He turned to look at Long Ling, only to see Long Ling holding his wine pot far away, saying, “Phoenix can’t have any.”

Su Muluo: “??”

He tried to reach for the wine pot, saying, “I want to drink.”

Long Ling: “No.”

Su Muluo looked pleadingly, “Just a sip, a small sip!”

“If I say no, then it’s no,” Long Ling’s attitude was firm. “Last time Phoenix drank a few sips of beer and got drunk. Obviously, Phoenix can’t handle alcohol, so not even a small sip.”

Su Muluo fell silent for a few seconds and whispered, “That time was an accident.”

Long Ling responded with an “Oh,” and continued, “But if you get drunk again this time, Phoenix might cling to me again and even let me touch his feathers.”

Su Muluo: “…”

Long Ling smirked slightly, “In that case, I could even demand some things from Phoenix while he’s all tipsy like that—”

Su Muluo: “??!”

Su Muluo immediately slapped him in anger, glaring at the dragon who had managed to make himself laugh and poured himself a glass of fruit wine.

Then Su Muluo said, “It tastes good.”

Su Muluo: “…”

So annoyed!

Ignoring the dragon, Su Muluo grabbed a piece of meat from Long Ling’s bowl and took away his favorite dish.

After the banquet, Su Muluo and Long Ling returned to their room, took a bath first, and then got into bed.

Su Muluo lay on the bed, seeing his dragon lying down beside him, he pushed him away.

“Move.”

“I’m not going anywhere.” Long Ling held his hand, chuckled lightly, and said, “I want to sleep holding Phoenix.”

Su Muluo: “I’m not letting you.”

Although he said that, he didn’t push him away again.

Long Ling’s arm wrapped around Su Muluo’s slender waist, holding him tightly in his arms. Feeling Phoenix’s fragrance and softness, he wanted to keep holding him like this, wherever they went, not letting go.

Then Long Ling affectionately kissed Su Muluo’s forehead.

Su Muluo immediately looked up at him.

Long Ling met his gaze for a few seconds, blinked, and said, “It wasn’t me, I didn’t kiss Phoenix.”

Su Muluo: “Do you really think I’ll believe your nonsense?”

Long Ling just responded with an “Oh.”

Then he kissed Su Muluo’s forehead again, turned off the light, and said, “Let’s sleep.”

Su Muluo: “…”

I knew he was taking advantage of me!

So he poked the dragon several times.

The room quieted down. Su Muluo didn’t fall asleep, just waited quietly until Long Ling’s breathing gradually calmed down, as if he had already fallen asleep, before opening his eyes again.

In the darkness, the handsome face of the sleeping man was dignified and beautiful. His arm was across Su Muluo’s waist, holding his Phoenix tightly even in sleep.

Su Muluo looked at Long Ling’s sleeping face and remembered what the Spirit of the Jade Pendant had said during the day.

If he wanted to mend his own soul and prevent his dragon from falling into a fate of consuming everything, he had to… do this and that with his dragon.

But what exactly was this and that?

Should he prepare something in advance?

Su Muluo tilted his head and stared at Long Ling for a while, slowly leaned closer.

Even though he wasn’t sure what exactly he should do, kissing was definitely part of it, right?

Should he try kissing first?

As he thought about it, hesitating a bit, he slowly approached Long Ling…

Just as he was about to reach Long Ling’s lips—

Long Ling opened his eyes.

Su Muluo: “…”

Long Ling: “…”

Su Muluo met those dark golden eyes and fell silent for a few seconds.

He pulled the blanket over Long Ling’s head.

Then pressed a pillow on top and didn’t let go.

Long Ling: “???”

He was going to kill his dragon!!

Chapter 38 – Kill Him, or…?

Chapter 38: Kill Him, or…?

“Squeak squeak squeak!”

In the mountain forest, a small phoenix angrily fluttered its wings, pecking randomly at Long Ling.

Long Ling knew he was in the wrong and let it peck him in grievance. But even when his phoenix pecked him, it was gentle, without any force.

So, he felt as if he had been pecked by his phoenix many times.

Of course, Long Ling only thought so in his heart and didn’t say it out loud. After a while, the little phoenix huffed angrily, folded its wings, and landed in Long Ling’s palm, ignoring him.

Long Ling touched its small head and was lightly pecked again.

“It wasn’t me who plucked it off,” Long Ling said aggrievedly, “I didn’t use any force. It feels like it fell off by itself.”

The phoenix’s feathers were shiny and beautiful. He couldn’t bear to touch them, let alone pluck one.

So it must have fallen off by itself!

Little Phoenix: “Squeak!”

That’s because you rubbed it off!

It wouldn’t have fallen off originally!

“If it can be rubbed off by me, it means it was about to fall off anyway,” Long Ling said, “and if it falls off, the phoenix can grow even more beautiful feathers. Isn’t it good to trade old for new?”

He made a lot of sense. The little phoenix stared at him for a few seconds as if convinced by him.

Then it turned back into a human, spread out its right hand towards him, and said, “Give me the feather back.”

Long Ling pretended not to hear this and awkwardly changed the subject, saying, “Phoenix, take a look at this jade pendant. Does it feel familiar to you?”

Su Muluo thought to himself, he stole my feather again, how outrageous.

But he didn’t really intend to snatch back that feather. Instead, he examined the jade pendant in his hand.

The jade pendant was clear and pure like snow, without any impurities. It was carved with exquisite patterns, resembling a phoenix wing about to take flight.

Su Muluo’s eyes narrowed slightly. He felt that this jade pendant was very familiar, as if he had seen it somewhere before… but thinking about it, he knew he couldn’t possibly remember now.

Long Ling saw his phoenix engrossed in it and asked, “So, do you remember anything?”

“…No,” Su Muluo said, “I just feel it looks familiar.”

He had indeed been affected by the jade pendant just now, feeling sleepy and unable to open his eyes. But after a while, he felt better, and now his dragon qi had cleared his mind.

However, it wasn’t quite as he had expected. He thought he might see something in this jade pendant or instantly recall some memories.

“It’s okay, anyway, the bird clan has already given us this jade pendant,” Long Ling said. “The phoenix just received it, so it might take some time to discover anything. Maybe it will come to you later.”

Su Muluo agreed. There was no rush anyway, and their past was definitely not easy to unravel.

So he put away the jade pendant and said, “Let’s go back.”

Long Ling nodded and walked shoulder to shoulder with Su Muluo on the way back to the bird clan… As they walked, for some reason, he felt a bit dissatisfied.

Clearly, he helped his phoenix obtain the jade pendant, yet there were no kisses exchanged, and he got pecked by his phoenix several times.

What a loss!

Long Ling turned his head to look at Su Muluo. Though he didn’t say a word, his gaze was deep and his face clearly showed displeasure.

Su Muluo met his gaze and remained silent for a few seconds.

Slowly, he leaned over and kissed him on the face.

Long Ling: “!”

His pretense of being unhappy immediately vanished, and he couldn’t help but smile. He joyfully took his phoenix’s hand and took advantage of the situation, “One more.”

Su Muluo: “No, just one.”

Long Ling: “But this one doesn’t count as a kiss!”

Su Muluo: “How does this not count as a kiss?”

Long Ling said, “A kiss should be on the lips, and it should last at least five minutes. So, this from the phoenix doesn’t really count as a kiss, it’s just a peck!” Then he justified confidently, “Since it doesn’t count as a kiss, the phoenix can peck me a few more times, right?”

Su Muluo: “…”

Su Muluo felt his reasoning was absurd, so he ignored him and continued walking forward.

Meanwhile, the bird clan had already divided and imprisoned the disciples of the Elder Grandpa faction, but surprisingly, one fish slipped through the net.

“What? Muge escaped?” Feng Xuan exclaimed, “The entire bird clan can’t find any trace of him?!”

“Yes,” reported the bird demon, “We searched high and low throughout the bird clan and questioned his accomplices, but no one knows where he is… It’s as if he disappeared into thin air.”

Feng Xuan frowned deeply. When he saw Su Muluo and Long Ling entering at this moment, his eyes lit up. He stood up and asked Long Ling, “Sir, when you defeated the Elder Grandpa, was there someone like this with him?”

He briefly described Muge’s appearance, and Long Ling replied, “No.”

Su Muluo noticed Feng Xuan’s troubled expression and asked, “Did someone escape?”

“Yes, Muge ran away,” Feng Xuan said, “He should have escaped before Elder Grandpa was captured, so no one saw him leave or knows where he is now.”

After pondering for a few seconds, he told the bird demon beside him, “Continue the search. Alone, he shouldn’t be able to cause much trouble.”

The bird demon acknowledged and left. Feng Xuan invited Su Muluo and Long Ling to sit down and said, “Mr. Su, we want to interrogate the Elder Grandpa. Could I ask you and Sir to stay nearby?”

Su Muluo understood that he was worried about the Elder Grandpa escaping during the interrogation and nodded without objection.

Feng Xuan thanked him and had the Elder Grandpa and his daughter brought up.

At this moment, both the Elder Grandpa and his daughter were bound by the demon’s ropes, both now prisoners. The Elder Grandpa’s daughter still cursed angrily, while he himself remained silent.

“Elder Feng,” Feng Xuan said, “the reason I address you as Elder is because you have been in the clan for eight hundred years and have made contributions to the Bird Clan… But now I must ask you, is Feng Xuan’s death related to you?”

“What a foolish question,” the Elder responded indifferently, “didn’t you already know it was me who killed him?”

His gaze swept across everyone present, finally settling on Su Muluo and Long Ling, with a disdainful chuckle. “If it weren’t for these two outsiders, you wouldn’t even dare to bring this matter to my attention.”

“In that case, my apologies,” Feng Xuan said expressionlessly, “you’ve relied on your demonic power for eight centuries to oppress us, forced the clan leader to his death, committed various atrocities. It’s no wonder we sought assistance from these two esteemed guests.”

“Heh,” the Elder’s eyes held a mocking glint as he raised his head. “I might as well tell you another thing. Feng Xuan’s father—my predecessor as clan leader—I killed him too. But don’t get too pleased. Though I may fall into your hands now, in the end, the victor won’t be you.”

Feng Xuan dismissed his bravado. “Unfortunately, you won’t have the chance. By tomorrow, you and your daughter will face execution before the entire clan.”

Upon hearing this, the Elder’s daughter panicked. “I can’t die! Father, father, save me! Quickly contact that—”

Before she could finish her sentence, her expression froze abruptly, and her words ceased.

Feng Xuan stared at her, witnessing black blood trickle from her lips… The Elder’s daughter fell silently to the ground.

Feng Xuan stood abruptly. “You poisoned her!”

He recognized the poison, a rare and deadly venom specific to their Bird Clan, something he had encountered before from Muge.

Seeing his daughter’s death, the Elder showed no sorrow. Calmly, he said, “I’m going to die sooner or later. It’s better to die by my own hand than to be disgraced by you.”

Feng Xuan was speechless with astonishment. Beside him, Su Muluo spoke up.

“Is that so?” He said calmly. “Wasn’t it because your daughter said something she shouldn’t have?”

He distinctly heard the Elder’s daughter’s last four words before dying: “that person.”

This implied that behind the Elder, there might be someone else.

The Elder remained silent, calmly meeting Su Muluo’s gaze… After a few seconds, he coughed up a mouthful of black blood.

Su Muluo frowned, watching the Elder collapse beside his daughter. Feng Xuan quickly checked his pulse, then shook his head.

“He’s dead,” Feng Xuan said. “Unfortunately, we couldn’t get the whereabouts of Muge from him.”

Neither of them had expected the Elder to poison himself and his daughter. With their deaths, the long-standing dispute within the Bird Clan seemed to have ended.

Su Muluo fell silent for a moment before saying, “Can we find Muge as soon as possible?”

He felt that the Elder and his daughter’s deaths were meant to conceal something. If they had chosen suicide out of humiliation, they could have done it when captured, rather than now.

Moreover, the Elder’s daughter’s last words, “quickly contact that person,” were deeply thought-provoking.

Who exactly was “that person,” hiding behind them, truly manipulating them?

Was the Elder’s quest for the Phoenix relic somehow related to “that person”?

However, these were merely Su Muluo’s conjectures without evidence. For now, the only breakthrough seemed to be the whereabouts of the missing Muge.

Feng Xuan said, “Mr. Su, rest assured. We will do our utmost to find the whereabouts of that traitor.”

After Su Muluo’s reminder, Feng Xuan also felt that something was amiss about the Elder’s death. He wondered who could manipulate the Elder from behind… After all, he was an ancient demon of eight centuries.

Realizing this, Feng Xuan felt a chill. He had thought everything was internal strife within the Bird Clan, but now it seemed there were deeper waters.

Thanks to Mr. Su and his companions, otherwise, relying solely on them, not to mention protecting the young master, they might not even have been able to ensure a straightforward death for themselves…

Su Muluo inexplicably felt that Feng Xuan’s gaze towards him suddenly became several times warmer, but he didn’t have the energy to figure out why now, because he was tired again.

Long Ling watched as Su Muluo, with the Phoenix nestled on his shoulder, buried his head in his shoulder in front of everyone, a hint of amusement in her eyes. She lifted the Phoenix and said, “He’s tired. I’ll take him to rest.”

“Feng Xuan certainly won’t object,” he nodded repeatedly, then added, “Your Excellency, tonight we will hold a banquet specifically to thank you and Mr. Su. If you have the time, please do come.”

Long Ling replied, “If he wakes up, I’ll bring him.”

With that, she left, carrying her Phoenix.

On the way back, Su Muluo rested his head on Long Ling’s shoulder, still clutching the jade pendant in his hand, its faint glow unnoticed by anyone.

As the light merged into Su Muluo’s body, his consciousness became fuzzy, his soul seemingly detached from his body and drifting to another place.

In his blurry vision, he saw a misty world, and heard a voice ringing in his ears, clear and crisp, like that of a young girl.

“This jade pendant was left by you a thousand years ago,” the spiritual form floated out from the jade pendant, wavering before him. “Back then, you infused Phoenix blood into the pendant, which gave birth to me, the spirit of this jade.”

Su Muluo barely managed to open his eyes, observing the spirit hovering before him.

“And later, you gave half of your heart’s blood to Lord Long Ling to save him, binding your lives together in the cycle of reincarnation,” the spirit continued. “But entering this cycle means your souls with Lord Long Ling are in an extremely unstable state. As he grows stronger, he will consume more of your life, causing various conditions in your body. If he stays by your side, these conditions may lessen, but it’s only treating the symptoms, not the root cause.”

Pausing, the spirit circled Su Muluo and whispered, “Continuing like this, he will inevitably consume all your life… because the Black Dragon’s fate is destruction, to destroy everything in the world.”

Su Muluo fell silent for a few seconds before asking, “How can this situation be resolved?”

“There are two ways,” the spirit replied. “The first, kill him.”

Su Muluo’s face turned suddenly cold. “That’s impossible.”

“I know you wouldn’t choose that method,” the spirit said, floating around before finally speaking slowly, “So there’s a second option, simpler, something you can do.”

“What is it?” Su Muluo asked.

The spirit remained silent for a moment, then drifted just out of Su Muluo’s reach before reluctantly saying, “The second method is… to mate with your dragon.”

Su Muluo: “…”
