Chapter 21 – Little Mouse

Chapter 21: Little Mouse

“What is this?!

What’s going on?!

How come it suddenly has a little lover?!”

Little Black Dragon never expected that after just one look at the Mirror of Origins, its phoenix would no longer want it. It was both bewildered and shocked, refusing to believe it. Instantly, it expanded and tightly coiled around the phoenix.

“Roar!”

Su Muluo looked down at the black dragon clinging to him, feeling gloomy and unwilling to speak.

The black dragon’s dark golden eyes were filled with grievance as it nuzzled its head into the crook of his phoenix’s shoulder.

“Roar.”

It didn’t have any little lover! Other than the phoenix, it liked no other bird.

Besides, its phoenix was the most beautiful; no other bird could compare! It wouldn’t even look at them.

“It’s not true,” Su Muluo replied, “That person is as beautiful as me.”

Black Dragon: “Roar!”

But it only likes its phoenix! Always has and always will! It never had a little lover, not in the past and not in the future!

It even raised a paw, ready to swear.

Su Muluo looked at its paw and said, “What do you want to swear on?”

The black dragon thought for a moment and then roared, “Roar!”

Honey?

Su Muluo: “…”

Su Muluo patted the black dragon’s head and said, “I don’t want honey.” Then, after a brief pause, he added, “If you lie to me, you’ll drink milk every day.”

The tone of this sentence was noticeably lighter, a joke. The black dragon knew its phoenix was appeased and returned to its small size, sticking to his palm and nuzzling him.

“Chirp roar.”

It loves the phoenix the most and only the phoenix.

Su Muluo looked at the little dragon in his palm, then after a few seconds, he patted its head.

He didn’t actually believe his dragon would like someone else. After all, they had been together since they were eggs. But the past revealed in the Mirror of Origin still bothered him, and he didn’t know how to accept it.

Who was that silver-haired phoenix?

Su Muluo pondered silently.

Could it be… a father-son relationship with his dragon?

…They didn’t really look alike.

Su Muluo frowned again and poked the little black dragon.

The little black dragon immediately hugged his finger and pecked at his fingertip.

Su Muluo: “…”

A hint of a smile flashed in Su Muluo’s eyes, but he quickly regained his seriousness and said, “No matter what, when you regain your memory, you’re not allowed to dislike me.”

Little Black Dragon: “Roar!”

It would never dislike its phoenix—back when it was just an egg, it had a natural attachment and affection for the phoenix next to it. It didn’t know anything, but it knew this was its phoenix, its precious treasure that no one could take away.

So, even if it had a past life before becoming a dragon egg, even if it had forgotten that past, it clearly remembered one thing—it only liked this phoenix. If there was a next life, if it were reincarnated, it would still only like this phoenix.

The little black dragon hugged Su Muluo’s hand tightly, nuzzling him in various ways. Su Muluo felt the tangible warmth of the little dragon in his palm, and the anxiety in his heart slowly eased.

From the Mirror of Origin and his previous dreams, it seemed that he and the little black dragon each had a past. But he didn’t know the specifics of that past or their relationship at that time.

However, since they ended up as the last remaining eggs of the dragon and phoenix clans, nestled together, their relationship must have been extraordinary… perhaps they had been together even earlier?

Thinking of this, Su Muluo’s eyes brightened a little, and his mood improved.

No matter what, his dragon only liked him. As for that silver-haired phoenix, he didn’t know or recognize it.

So, he ignored the Mirror of Origin and took the little black dragon out.

In the corridor at the entrance, Liu He was waiting. Seeing Su Muluo come out, she smiled slightly and asked, “Mr. Su, did you see what you wanted to see?”

Su Muluo paused for a second and said, “No.”

Liu He: “!”

Her expression immediately changed slightly. She glanced at the room and saw the Mirror of Origin still lying on the table, then breathed a very subtle sigh of relief.

But Su Muluo noticed her small movement and thought she was worried he might break the Mirror of Origin. He said, “Don’t worry, the mirror is still intact.”

Liu He, realizing he noticed her movement, smiled awkwardly and said, “Sorry, Mr. Su, it was just a reflex.”

Su Muluo gave her a puzzled look, so she explained, “Actually, we often use this mirror because several of our leaders… often use it to catch cheaters.”

Su Muluo: “…”

Su Muluo glanced at the little black dragon.

Little Black Dragon: “…”

Liu He continued, “You know, people who find out they’ve been cheated on aren’t in a good mood, so they sometimes do extreme things like smashing the mirror… The Mirror of Origin has been broken several times, and our branch in Lin City was even labeled the ‘Most Uncivilized Organization’ by the headquarters. The director had to treat them to several meals to get rid of that title.”

After she finished speaking, she remembered Su Muluo’s earlier response of “no” and cautiously glanced at him.

“You wouldn’t be—”

“No,” Su Muluo quickly interrupted, “I’m not wearing a green hat, thank you.”

Liu He: “Oh.” Then she whispered, “Actually, I wasn’t going to ask you that.”

Su Muluo: “…”

Su Muluo felt this visit to the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings was extremely unfriendly, not wanting to stay a second longer. He politely thanked Liu He and then quickly left.

One person and one dragon left the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings, neither looking very happy. The little black dragon rubbed against Su Muluo’s hand, and as it rubbed, a feather fell off.

A pristine white phoenix feather.

Su Muluo: “…”

Another feather!

And it was rubbed off by his dragon!!

He poked the little black dragon and said, “You rubbed it off, you compensate!”

The little black dragon immediately hugged the feather, looking innocently at him.

Su Muluo felt like misfortune was piling up, although it seemed like he was molting, and the feathers would grow back… But he was already 1,800 years old; he should have reached adulthood long ago. Why didn’t he molt before, but now he was?

And he had been feeling sleepy lately, even during the day, just like the little black dragon before.

The more Su Muluo thought about it, the more he felt all this was related to the little black dragon. His oddities only appeared after the little black dragon hatched. So, he rubbed the little dragon’s head, trying to rub it bald.

The little black dragon, feeling wronged, knew coming to the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings would lead to no good. It hated the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings the most.

In the future, it must watch over its phoenix and never come here again!

Because of the Mirror of Origin and the feather, Su Muluo wasn’t in the mood to go to the coffee shop today. Feeling unusually tired, unable to muster any energy, he took the little black dragon home.

Initially, he only felt sleepy at night, then became drowsy in the afternoon. But today, it was still morning, and he was already struggling to keep his eyes open.

Back at the rental house, Su Muluo quickly prepared a simple lunch. The little black dragon, lying on the table, gnawed on some meat while watching its phoenix, whose eyelids were slowly drooping as he ate, eventually resting on the table, asleep.

Little Black Dragon: “Roar!”

You can’t sleep here! You’ll catch a cold!

It immediately went over to nudge Su Muluo. Su Muluo, with sleepy eyes, said, “Got it…”

Then, very reluctantly, he got up, carrying his little black dragon to the bed.

The large bed was soft, and Su Muluo buried himself in the warm, fluffy blankets. His smooth black hair slightly covered his beautiful brows, long eyelashes drooping, looking lazy and relaxed, like a beautiful bird taking a rest.

The little black dragon expanded, affectionately wrapping around Su Muluo. Su Muluo muttered, pushing it away slowly, “No taking advantage…”

The black dragon found its phoenix soft and adorable, so it stayed silent and wrapped around him tighter.

Su Muluo initially tried to push it a few times, but finding it impossible, he got annoyed and said, “I won’t bother with you… I’m going to sleep.”

This sentence was also soft. A hint of a smile appeared in the dark golden eyes of the dragon, its head nuzzling against Su Muluo’s hair, and it let out a low growl.

Su Muluo ignored the dragon, pulled the blanket over his head, and soon fell into a deep sleep in its embrace.

He slept very soundly. After some time, he gradually woke up.

But he wasn’t fully awake, half of his consciousness in reality, half still dreaming, too sleepy to open his eyes.

In this half-awake state, he felt a strong arm tightly wrapped around his waist, as if he were nestled in someone’s chest, even feeling their body warmth.

The familiar feeling from a few days ago returned. Su Muluo,

lying there lazily, tried to nuzzle closer, but his half-asleep body refused to respond, staying in that warm, cozy embrace.

In his dream, a voice asked, “Why are you molting again?”

A gentle voice replied, “Who knows, maybe I’m still young?”

“How come? You’re not a chick.”

The latter voice, full of irritation, said, “If I say I’m young, I’m young!”

The first voice was speechless, clearly not wanting to provoke the other further. But a low chuckle soon followed.

“Alright, you’re young.”

“Su Muluo.”

“Su Muluo.”

The voice was faint but so close that Su Muluo woke up from his dream. Opening his eyes, he found himself still alone in the room, lying in the warm embrace of the black dragon.

The warm embrace felt so real; he rubbed against the black dragon, letting it tighten around him, as if recalling the dream he had just had.

It seemed like… they were having a conversation in the past?

Chapter 178 – Dragon Clan Brothers (Extra 2.2)

Chapter 178 – Dragon Clan Brothers (Extra 2.2)

Lu Chengyu dared to say that if this was his own brother, he would have already turned around and walked away.

However, his sister reacted quickly. She smiled warmly at the nervous young girl sitting there and said, “Hello.”

The girl holding the lunch box was stared at by her and inexplicably became nervous. She stood up and said softly, “Hello, my name is Shen Wenjing. I am a student from the union, and I am from the Jade Rabbit Clan.”

“Oh?” His sister’s golden-framed glasses glistened in the sunlight. For a moment, her gaze was as cold and merciless as Nie Yan’s when evaluating the worth of merchandise. “So, you’re from the Jade Rabbit Clan. Nice to meet you.”

Shen Wenjing inexplicably felt uncomfortable.

On the other hand, Lu Heizai, who was a bit thick-skinned, didn’t notice it and continued, “Wenjing has been eating here during the union these past few days. She brought her own lunch box, and the food is made by herself.”

Lu Chengyu glanced at him and said bluntly, “You made the food yourself too?”

“I…”

Lu Heizai said, “I brought some dry food because Wenjing said if she ate the lunch box alone, others might look down on her, so I accompanied her.”

Lu Chengyu glanced at Shen Wenjing. When his eyes stared at someone, it gave the person a feeling that all their thoughts were exposed under his eyelids. After a moment of staring, he sneered, “I see.”

“Then let’s eat together.” Lu Chengyu wanted to see if she really had only this trick up her sleeve. “Why don’t we just go to the cafeteria to eat together?”

Shen Wenjing didn’t want to be with them because, despite their seemingly friendly demeanor, they actually concealed sharp edges, giving her a very dangerous feeling—extremely dangerous. She wasn’t a match for these two, and they also weren’t her targets.

Besides, her target wasn’t these two. Why should they interfere and ruin her plans?

Thinking of this, Shen Wenjing wanted to refuse, “No, I’ll just eat by myself…”

Lu Chengyu directly said to his brother, “The professor asked you to take care of her. If he knows that you only let her eat the lunch box she brought and didn’t take her to the cafeteria, wouldn’t he have an opinion of you?”

These words finally enlightened Heizai.

Heizai suddenly realized and looked at Shen Wenjing beside him. He said, “Yes, if you go to the cafeteria with us, others won’t look down on you.”

Shen Wenjing was taken aback.

“Then let’s go.” Heizai was enthusiastic. “Let’s eat together, I’m starving.”

He didn’t even dare to say just now that he hadn’t eaten enough, which was really pitiful for a dragon.

Lu Chengyu saw that his brother had agreed, and he showed a meaningful smile. Then he said to Shen Wenjing, “Big brother, if we take Miss Shen with us, people might think Miss Shen is freeloading. How about we directly give Miss Shen the money to let her buy her own meal? Wouldn’t that be better?”

For a moment, Heizai actually thought his brother was very considerate!

Lu Chengyin turned to Shen Wenjing and said, “Then I’ll give you the money, and you can buy your own meal. Don’t be too polite with us.”

Shen Wenjing’s smile froze on her face.

She wasn’t actually poor to the point where she couldn’t afford the cafeteria meal. She just wanted to use this opportunity to spend every noon with Lu Chengyin, and also to get closer to his brother and sister, increasing their chances of being alone together.

If she had to buy her own meal, what would be the point of all this?

However, just as she was thinking, Lu Chengyu took a step forward, looking down at her with an icy aura, and sneered, “Miss Shen, please tap your bracelet. I’ll transfer the money to you.”

Shen Wenjing hesitated, unwilling to move.

“Why?”

Lu Chengyu seemed to see through her thoughts and smiled, “No need to feel embarrassed. What’s my brother’s is mine, and what’s mine is my brother’s. You don’t need to distinguish or care who it belongs to because we are one.”

After speaking, he glanced at the boy beside him, seemingly unintentionally.

Lu Heizai nodded beside him, “Mhm, we are together.”

This sentence was a direct hit to the heart.

Lu Chengyu decisively transferred five thousand star coins and smiled, “I heard from your brother that your family is in a difficult situation. Keep the money for a taxi, and walk in the future. It’s easier for him to get up early a few times.”

Lu Heizai felt ashamed of having his secret revealed, “What are you talking about!”

Lu Chengyu acted as if he hadn’t heard and withdrew his hand, stopping the conversation. He was unusually talkative today, but after dealing with people, he returned to normal, walked to Lu Heizai, and said, “Let’s go.”

Lu Chengyin asked, “Where to?”

“To eat,” Lu Chengyu said, “If we wait any longer, today’s spare ribs will be gone.”

“I forgot! Hurry up, you guys are growing and need to eat more. Spare ribs are good for calcium. Dad said last time you two are picky eaters and only love meat. Do you think it’s normal for the dragon race to eat meat?”

“Isn’t it because big brother likes to eat spare ribs?”

“…Nonsense!”

The three of them left noisily, leaving Shen Wenjing standing in place, watching their departing figures, a hint of coldness gradually gathering in her eyes.

The next day.

“Bang!”

There was an accident at the experimental base during an experiment. The sudden commotion not only scared students in other places but also frightened those in the laboratory.

“What happened?”

“I heard the experiment in that group went wrong.”

“A girl got hurt, right?”

While everyone was discussing, the school doctor had already rushed over. It was indeed Lu Chengyin’s group that had a small accident during the experiment, and among the injured was Shen Wenjing. As the senior responsible, Lu Chengyin followed along.

Shen Wenjing’s injuries were not severe, but the wounds were visible and looked serious. Despite this, she still tried to talk to Lu Chengyin, “Brother Chengyin, it’s not your fault, it’s all my own carelessness…”

“It’s okay, don’t worry.”

“Even if I get disfigured, it might be my fate…”

Lu Chengyin was also a bit stunned. Their school was a noble school, and those who became nobles had strong backgrounds, so they rarely got hurt. Even if they did, they healed quickly. For example, his sister, although a delicate girl, usually didn’t get disfigured from injuries.

“Others wait outside.”

The doctor refused entry to others outside the emergency room. Lu Chengyin waited outside. Other injured students were there too, but their injuries were not serious. The professor arrived later. For his prized student Lu Chengyin, he didn’t scold him but reminded him, “Chengyin, these students need rest now. Originally, they were supposed to return to school tomorrow, but given the situation, they can’t go back. Please take care of them.”

Lu Chengyin nodded, “Okay, Professor, I…”

He felt a bit guilty. The experiment was simple, and he thought there was no problem, so he wasn’t watching closely. Unexpectedly, this small oversight led to a big accident.

The professor patted Lu Chengyin on the shoulder and said, “No one can perfectly avoid accidents. When they happen, we just do our best to handle them, understand?”

Lu Chengyin nodded slightly.

Thus, his younger siblings soon noticed that their eldest brother had become unusually busy. It might have been his sense of responsibility and mission all along, or maybe it was his self-blame for negligence, but he was very attentive in taking care of the injured.

“I’m going to the hospital to check.”

“You guys go ahead, I’ll stay. I’m going to the hospital.”

“It seems like I need to stay overnight; I haven’t been home these past few days.”

Lu Chengyin’s actions finally aroused Lu Chengyu’s dissatisfaction after three days. He said, “Are you a servant?”

Lu Heizai was taken aback.

“Being ordered around by others.” Lu Chengyin said, “What, did you set the fire that caused the explosion?”

Lu Heizai said, “But I’m the responsible person. They need my help. I…”

“Can you manage it all?”

A slightly cold voice interrupted him, and the room fell silent.

“You can’t manage the countless people in this world.”

The boy sitting on the bed had his face lowered, hiding his expression, but his eyes were dark. He said, “Lu Chengyin, do you understand?”

Unlike the usual lazy and casual teasing, these words seemed to carry the weight of a thousand pounds.

Lu Heizai was stunned for a moment, then he pounced and hugged the brother who had not acted coquettishly since growing up, laughing heartily, “What’s wrong with you today?”

Lu Chengyu was knocked onto the bed by his sudden movement and pushed him away in disgust, “I’m not joking with you.”

After some playful wrestling, Lu Chengyin finally lay down next to him, panting, his blood-red eyes as clear as a bright ruby. He said, “I know you’re afraid I’ll be taken advantage of, but your brother isn’t that foolish. It’s just that those kids remind me of you and our sister when you were younger. It’s a pity you two matured so early. It seems you haven’t liked being around me for a long time. When you were little, you always wanted to sleep with your brother, then you started school and didn’t play with me anymore. When you got hurt, you didn’t tell me. When you had problems, you didn’t discuss them with me. I was always worried, afraid you’d be too withdrawn. I didn’t know what to do, and I still don’t.”

As he spoke, he actually felt a bit aggrieved.

Lu Chengyin said, “I thought you didn’t need your brother anymore.”

Lu Chengyu lay quietly on the bed, listening to the rambling voice beside him. He felt an unprecedented calm. He said, “Brother.”

Lu Chengyin: “Yeah?”

“You’re such an idiot.”

“You brat, I’m your brother. Say that again?”

The corner of Lu Chengyu’s mouth slowly curved into a smile. He chuckled softly and finally looked at him again, “Although you’re very stupid, you’re still Lu Chengyin.”

Lu Chengyin was stunned, “What do you mean?”

“It means,” Lu Chengyu said, “no matter what, whether you get married and have kids, achieve great success, you’ll always be my and our sister’s brother.”

That won’t change, you fool.

The next day

Shen Wenjing found that no matter how many messages she sent, Lu Chengyin didn’t come back. He said, “My brother hasn’t been feeling well these days. I need to take care of him.”

Not feeling well?

A dragon feeling unwell? And what could be wrong with that fearful-looking teenager?

Just as Shen Wenjing was puzzled, the door to the ward opened, and a tall teenager stood outside. His appearance was impeccable: broad shoulders, a narrow waist, long and muscular legs. The deep blue, neatly tailored school uniform perfectly showcased Lu Shifeng’s elegance and composure. His looks leaned more towards Jian Luo, softer, which seemed to be the perfect disguise.

For some reason, Shen Wenjing felt a bit nervous, “You, what are you doing here?”

“Are you messaging my brother about the progress of his condition?” Lu Chengyu took a step toward her, his boots clacking on the polished floor with a cold, methodical rhythm, like a specter from hell closing in on its prey.

Shen Wenjing said, “I didn’t message you.”

Lu Chengyu curled his lips into a smile. “So what? Does it make a difference?”

Shen Wenjing was taken aback.

“The one you like is the heir to the dragon clan and all that wealth, right?” Lu Chengyu leaned down, his handsome face magnified in front of Shen Wenjing. His voice was low and gentle, with a seductive charm impossible for a young girl to resist. “What he has, I also have. Is it any different if you message me?”

For a moment, Shen Wenjing wavered. “You…”

A smile tugged at the corners of Lu Chengyu’s mouth. “He’s dumb, doesn’t understand romance, barely passes his grades. He’s not as smart as my sister or as outstanding as me. Do you really think he’ll ever become the Dragon King? With me, your chances are much better, don’t you think?”

Faced with that face and gentle voice, no girl could resist. Shen Wenjing murmured, “But I…”

Suddenly!

Lu Chengyu’s gaze turned icy, like a venomous snake’s, cold and dangerous. He smirked.

“Smack!”

A stack of photos and documents hit Shen Wenjing in the face. Lu Chengyu looked down at her, as if she were a disgusting, lowly insect.

“Take a good look at what you are. Do you have the right to despise him?”

The photos showed Shen Wenjing’s previous indiscretions at school: getting close with a low-ranking noble, bribing a lab teacher to cause an explosion, bullying classmates, and stealing boyfriends. She never knew her secrets had been dug up so thoroughly.

Her heart turned cold. She looked at the man in front of her, feeling a deep-rooted fear but still trying to struggle. “If you dare to spread this, I’ll scream harassment and ruin you too…”

“Creak.”

A sound came from outside.

A girl was leaning against the door, looking in. It was the sister.

Lu Chengqi was playing with a storage device, waving it casually. “Hi.”

Shen Wenjing froze, not expecting anyone else to be outside, let alone that the supposedly amiable girl had a dangerous glint behind her glasses. “I’ve recorded everything.”

Shen Wenjing trembled.

She realized that if she didn’t admit her mistakes now, she might meet a terrible end. She finally understood that this second prince of the dragon clan was not someone to be trifled with.

“I was wrong. I’ll never do it again. I’ll leave right away. I won’t bother him anymore. I won’t even think about him. Please let me go.”

Lu Chengqi raised an eyebrow and said, “Hmm? Are you still going to accuse my second brother of harassment?”

Shen Wenjing’s tears fell like rain. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I admit my mistake. I won’t do it again.”

At this moment, she deeply understood that while the eldest brother of the Lu family might be kind, the other two were not to be messed with.

Lu Chengqi said, “Will I still see you tomorrow?”

Shen Wenjing knew she had narrowly escaped disaster. “No, no, I’ll leave immediately!”

Even though the sister said this, the boy standing nearby still looked cold.

Shen Wenjing quickly added, “I won’t mention you coming here. I’ll find another excuse. I’m really sorry. I won’t do it again.”

The boy’s expression softened slightly but remained stern. “Leave this place and never appear before me or him again. If you repeat your actions…”

Shen Wenjing was so frightened she kowtowed. “I swear, I swear. I really won’t do it again!”

Lu Chengyu’s eyes were filled with indifference, as if the desperate pleas were nothing but fleeting clouds to him. All his mercy and sympathy were reserved from birth, and the only emotions left in this world were for his family. His family was his whole world. He wanted to protect his elder brother and his younger sister. If anyone tried to hurt them, he would never forgive them.

Turning around, he left. The siblings walked out of the hospital and unexpectedly ran into their straightforward big brother carrying some things.

Hei Zai asked, “What are you two doing here?”

Lu Chengqi and Lu Chengyu exchanged glances, and the sister spoke first, “We heard Miss Shen’s illness has improved, so we came to check on her.”

Hei Zai had a puzzled look on his face, “Her illness improved this quickly?”

“Of course,” the sister nodded and dialed Shen Wenjing’s number. She said, “Miss Shen, are you better? My brother and I are outside. Do you need us to come in and see you?”

On the other end, Shen Wenjing was eager, “Yes, yes, I’m better. I’m already getting ready to be discharged. You don’t need to come.”

Hei Zai asked, “So soon, do you need help?”

Shen Wenjing seemed to fear he might come, “Don’t come. I’m already fine. You don’t need to come.”

Hei Zai said, “But…”

“It’s nothing, you just take care of yourself, thank you!” Shen Wenjing quickly hung up, almost too fast for anyone to react. The sister smiled and said, “Brother, she’s fine. We checked on her. The school gave us a half-day off today, and I told our second brother that we should go to Dad’s new entertainment and dining city to play. Will you take us?”

Hei Zai snapped back from his shock, and upon hearing that his younger siblings wanted to play, he became energetic again, “Do you want your big brother to take you? Finally, you realize the fun of going with your brother. You know, a few years ago when you went out, you never took your brother. Do you know how dangerous it is? Only with your brother can you be better protected…”

The sister rolled her eyes and said softly, “I wasn’t out messing around, I was out studying, not just playing.”

“Playing is fine,” Lu Hei Zai said, “You’re still young. There’s nothing wrong with playing.”

The sister retorted, “I’m young, but I can still achieve something. Don’t underestimate people.”

“The family raised you, and it’s okay to have high standards for yourself.”

The sister looked up and exchanged glances with her second brother, Lu Chengyu, who lazily said, “Shut up, you’re so noisy.”

This indeed made the chatty Hei Zai quiet. He said, “Rude child, can’t your brother even say a few words?”

Lu Chengyu glanced at his sister and said, “He’s right. You don’t have to push yourself so hard.”

“You’re always like this,” the sister muttered.

She could never forget how, due to her weak health as a child, her two brothers went to great lengths to protect her. Once, because of her poor physical education grades, their clumsy big brother even deliberately scored low to spare her feelings.

All along, the three of them had been together. She received her brothers’ care and concern, but she didn’t want to be a flower in a greenhouse. She wanted to become a tree that could shield them from the wind and rain.

Thinking this, she heard her big brother say, “The car is here.”

He still habitually stood in front of her, in a protective stance. Even though they hadn’t spent much time together these past two years, their big brother hadn’t become distant from anyone. He still protected and cared for his sister meticulously.

Looking at his back, Lu Chengqi whispered, “Because I also want to protect you.”

The noise from the approaching car was loud, and Hei Zai didn’t hear the soft words. He turned back and asked, “What did you just say?”

Lu Chengqi paused and smiled, “I said, we can park here. Brother, you’re really silly. The school emphasized just a couple of days ago that once caught, points will be deducted from your attendance.”

Hei Zai scratched his head and asked his younger brother again, “Really?”

Lu Chengyu nonchalantly nodded.

From the open space came Hei Zai’s cries of anguish.

The sister looked at her lively big brother, her eyes curved with an inner smile. She used to think she wanted to keep her distance from her brothers, not wanting to be a burden again. But now, she suddenly felt differently. Weren’t they always meant to be together?

She pushed her glasses up and spoke, “Let’s go, we’ll walk ahead together.”

Hei Zai stopped muttering to himself and said, “If we park here, it might be a bit far to walk outside the school.”

“It’s okay,” the sister said, “Let’s walk together.”

Together from now on.

Chapter 57 – Meet the murderer of my mother

Chapter 57

Si Lan felt uncomfortable hearing the title “God of Grief”. His lips tightened into a thin line.

Haowei glanced at his tightly pressed red lips and said, “If you don’t like him, I’ll go find him alone. You wait for me at Zhuyun Peak.”

“He’s in seclusion…”

“Yeah, we’ll just barge in.” Haowei said casually.

Si Lan fell silent for a moment, then said, “I’ll go with you.” He felt awkward to directly mention that they had been acting together for a long time. Suddenly not following Haowei made him feel uneasy.

Haowei looked up, his gaze moving from Si Lan’s lips to his eyes. “No need to force yourself.”

“I’m not forcing myself.” Si Lan raised his eyelids and met Haowei’s gaze, only then noticing they were both lying on the bed. He was loosely wrapped in a white inner garment, while Haowei’s chest was bare, bearing a red scratch mark.

Si Lan’s face stiffened for a moment. A scratch mark… How could he not remember scratching Haowei? Instead, he vaguely recalled being carried to bed by Haowei and then subjected to a chaotic nibbling, with Haowei’s voice filled with anger ringing in his ears.

“Such lack of focus deserves punishment.”

Thinking of this, he lowered his head and saw the bruised skin exposed at the collar of his inner garment, as if he had been through a lot of turmoil. Was this the punishment?

Si Lan’s face alternated between red and white, unable to help narrowing his eyes, glaring at Haowei with a hint of anger.

Seeing Si Lan just lowered his head to look at his body and then raised it up, glaring at him with anger in his eyes, Haowei knew what he was upset about. He coughed lightly and hurriedly said, “Well, let’s go together then. Yu Wuxia said, ‘The change of the six harmonies, the eight yin and yang will surely change,’ which is easy to understand. But what does ‘Reincarnation for a hundred lifetimes all fails, and this life you will also fail’ mean?”

Si Lan shook his head, but a bizarre thought arose in his mind, which he felt was impossible.

Instead, Haowei said, “Could it mean that you’ve been reincarnated a hundred times to stop Yu Wuxia’s actions?”

Si Lan remained silent.

If that were true, then his fate would be too miserable.

No wonder he gave only a penny to heaven, and heaven still brought him here. Saying something about unifying the six realms was actually to be subjected to scrutiny. If he thought nothing and was still tricked by heaven.

He held his head in his hands, deeply regretting not downloading the anti-fraud app years ago.

Haowei looked at his painful appearance and asked, “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing.” Si Lan looked at the jade-like man in front of him and silently felt that among the myriad misfortunes, the fortune was that some of the people in the Demon Realm, and the man in front of him, had appeared in his life.

In the face of regret, it actually felt a little worthwhile.

He came down from the bed, intending to prop up the bed, but his wrists were really sore, and he almost fell over.

Haowei held his figure and his eyes were empty, as if there was some guilt in him.

“It’s better for you to rest for a day before we go to find the God of Sorrow.”

“No, we’d better go find the God of Sorrow as soon as possible.”

Although he didn’t know what Yu Wuxia wanted to do, delaying a day was a waste of a day. It was better to stop Yu Wuxia as soon as possible.

Haowei nodded, reached out and grabbed Si Lan’s wrist, and helped him rub it. He still felt a little guilty in his heart and felt that he had been reckless and indulgent last night, and he should be less eager for material things in the future.

Si Lan was unaware of Haowei’s inner thoughts, still furrowing his brow as he pondered. If Yu Wuxia had been planning these things for a long time, many previously inexplicable matters seemed to have explanations now.

For example, Zhongli once told Lou Yu that he had seen Lou Yu in a dream, where Lou Yu was his groom, which led Zhongli to fall in love at first sight upon meeting Lou Yu. Could that dream have been planted in Zhongli’s mind by Yu Wuxia, intentionally hinting at Zhongli?

And then, Dayong was summoned to the mortal realm by Pei Yu immediately after appearing, such timing being so coincidental. Perhaps the tragedy between Pei Yu and Taoyuan was orchestrated behind the scenes by Yu Wuxia.

He just couldn’t understand why Yu Wuxia manipulated so many people and things. What did he intend to achieve?

Si Lan’s mind was full of questions, unable to comprehend. In the blink of an eye, he and Haowei arrived at Gusha Mountain.

Across from Gusha Mountain flowed a murmuring stream, beside which hung a waterfall. Water cascaded down, creating a roaring sound.

Si Lan glanced at the waterfall and suddenly remembered the dream he had had yesterday, where Yu Wuxia had brought him to this waterfall.

Why was it so coincidental?

Si Lan couldn’t help but take a few steps forward, gazing intently.

Haowei saw Si Lan standing motionless, staring at the waterfall, and said, “This waterfall is transformed by the Mirror Pitcher, one of the artifacts of the God of Grief.”

“Mirror Pitcher… Can it see things that will happen in the future?” He remembered seeing the new Six Realms in this Mirror Pitcher.

It was a completely unfamiliar Six Realms, or more precisely, there were no Six Realms inside. Immortals, demons, and humans were all integrated into a bizarre world where there was no supreme ruler, no ants groveling in the dust.

“You saw things that will happen in the future here?” Haowei asked in return.

“Yeah, but it might also be a false image created by Yu Wuxia to deceive me.” Although Si Lan spoke to Haowei, he was also comforting himself inwardly.

There were so many highly cultivated individuals in the Six Realms; they shouldn’t be heading towards destruction.

Not long after they landed, a group of mountain guards from Gusha Mountain sensed their presence and immediately surrounded them.

These people were ordinary phoenixes and had not seen Haowei before, so they did not recognize Haowei’s identity.

But from Haowei’s attire and aura, they felt he was extraordinary, so their attitude was mild.

The leading female servant was Qingxuan, the attendant of Princess Jingzhu of the Phoenix Clan. After scanning both of them with her eyes, she bowed to Haowei. “May I ask which immortal you are? And why have you come to Gusha Mountain?”

Gusha Mountain had been closed to outsiders for tens of thousands of years.

“Haowei.” Haowei had no intention of concealing his identity. The moment he spoke his name, the faces of the phoenixes changed drastically, and they immediately knelt down and saluted.

“Greetings, Your Majesty.”

Haowei’s expression was indifferent, his voice deep with a hint of coercion. “Is the God of Grief still in seclusion?”

“Understood,” Qingxuan replied.

“I have come this time to meet Lord Xiyou,” Haowei stated succinctly, unwilling to waste words.

Upon hearing this, Qingxuan appeared conflicted. “Your Majesty, Princess Zhu instructed us to guard the vicinity of Mount Gusha and ensure that no one disturbs Lord Xiyou. Furthermore, Lord Xiyou himself instructed our Phoenix clan not to disturb their rest before secluding himself.”

Haowei’s eyelids drooped slightly at her words, his gaze turning sharp and piercing as he turned to Si Lan beside him. “What do you think?”

Si Lan replied slowly, “Since we’re already here…”

In the next instant, a formidable pressure descended upon the Phoenix attendants. An intense oppression hung over them, rendering their faces grim. They knelt on the ground, unable to move, their lips trembling as they struggled to speak.

Haowei and Si Lan strode past them directly, heading towards Mount Gusha. The mountain was enveloped in a formation set by the previous Phoenix Queen, resistant to intrusion, and breaking it would surely alert Princess Zhu.

Haowei, unsure of Si Lan’s feelings towards Princess Zhu, informed him of their intent. Si Lan nodded in response.

He wasn’t afraid of Princess Zhu anymore, now that he possessed a fragment of the Heavenly Way. Even Lord Xiyou didn’t concern him.

Haowei then used magic to dismantle the formation—a golden Phoenix illusion set by the previous Phoenix Queen. The formation shattered under Haowei’s sword aura.

Mount Gusha trembled violently as rocks tumbled and clouds of dust billowed into the sky, casting a pall over half the heavens. Animals in the mountain fled in fear, their cries echoing eerily.

When debris threatened to strike Si Lan, Haowei calmly deflected them without changing his expression, holding Si Lan’s hand. In an instant, they appeared atop the peak of Mount Gusha.

Si Lan looked at the female Phoenixes still trapped below. “Will they be injured by the falling rocks?”

Haowei replied calmly, “No one will die.”

“Oh.”

Si Lan didn’t say more. When the Phoenix daughters caused trouble at Cloud Crest Peak last time, he had received them with patience. Initially, he only disliked Princess Zhu, feeling the others were innocent. But upon reflection, he realized the eight Phoenix daughters’ easy cooperation with the Lord of the Deer implied the entire Phoenix clan harbored grievances against him, likely stemming from his father’s rejection of Princess Zhu’s advances, turning the Phoenix clan against him as well.

Since that was the case, he no longer wanted to be the good guy.

Suddenly, a Phoenix cry resounded from the distant horizon, echoing through the skies and causing all birds to sing in unison. Strange avian calls enveloped the entire mountain.

A colossal crimson Phoenix descended upon auspicious clouds. With a slender neck, a raised back adorned with intricate patterns, fiery wings spread wide, and a tail trailing like a rainbow, it merged seamlessly with the crimson sunset.

This was Princess Zhu.

Folding her wings, Princess Zhu stood before Haowei and Si Lan. Perhaps intentionally, she remained in her enormous form instead of taking human shape, offering a dignified greeting to Haowei while her gaze, brown and unwavering, fixed on Si Lan.

“Sovereign Haowei,” Princess Zhu nodded gently, her eyes never dropping, holding Si Lan’s gaze.

Si Lan discerned a hint of madness and resentment in her eyes, his own gaze darkening. Remembering her insults and taunts towards Luo Hui, veins bulged on his forehead, a hint of demonic aura swirling around him.

Haowei lightly squeezed his hand, and Si Lan’s demonic aura subsided slightly, calming his anger.

“Princess Zhu, I broke the seal on Mount Gusha only to meet Lord Xiyou. I hope you can forgive this intrusion,” Haowei said respectfully. Princess Zhu was thousands of years his senior and held a relationship with him as his elder, so Haowei had to show some deference.

Princess Zhu shook her wings and finally shifted her gaze from Si Lan to Haowei. “Your Majesty, what brings you to see Lord Xiyou?”

Haowei replied succinctly, “I have a matter that puzzles me, and I believe Lord Xiyou might provide clarity.”

“Your Majesty, to be frank, Lord Xiyou may not be able to see you at this moment.”

Haowei’s expression remained unchanged at this news, his voice lowering slightly. “What if I insist on seeing Lord Xiyou today?” Normally, Haowei would never act so impetuously; if someone didn’t wish to see him, he wouldn’t force a confrontation. But now, among the Six Realms, Lord Xiyou was the oldest and most knowledgeable among the Divine Emperors. Thus, disregarding etiquette, Haowei was determined to meet him.

Princess Zhu dared not stop Haowei, glancing at the attendants still kneeling at the foot of Mount Gusha with an uneasy expression. “Your Majesty, such actions may not be appropriate in terms of etiquette or sentiment.”

Haowei had no interest in discussing etiquette or sentiment with her, nor did he wish to waste time. He simply stated, “Princess Zhu, please step aside.”

“…,” Princess Zhu hesitated.

Princess Zhu hadn’t expected Haowei to be so unyielding. Her expression stiffened slightly before she turned her gaze to Si Lan. She knew he held a grudge against her.

Si Lan, undaunted, smiled provocatively at her. This only darkened Princess Zhu’s expression further.

Haowei took a step forward while holding Si Lan’s hand, compelling Princess Zhu to yield to them.

With the barrier around Mount Gusha breached, theoretically, Lord Xiyou should have heard the commotion outside. However, there was no response from him. Could he be at a critical point in his cultivation?

Suppressing his curiosity, Haowei sent a mental message into Mount Gusha.

“Lord Xiyou.”

He called several times but received no reply.

Si Lan sensed something amiss. “What’s wrong?”

“Lord Xiyou seems… off.”

Glancing at Princess Zhu, Haowei spoke and then proceeded to breach a corner of Mount Gusha, pulling Si Lan inside.

Observing this, Princess Zhu flew into Mount Gusha as well. Partly to understand why Haowei and Si Lan were together and whether they intended harm against Lord Xiyou.

She hadn’t forgotten Si Lan’s gaze towards her years ago—a young boy full of hatred and malice, as if he wanted to tear her apart and consume her flesh.

She still shuddered at the memory. Recently, the eight Phoenix daughters returned from Cloud Crest Peak with unusual expressions, suddenly changing their stories about Si Lan not being just an ordinary person, but a Divine Phoenix.

She found their behavior peculiar but could not extract any information from them. Reflecting now, Haowei must have threatened them.

Additionally, she wanted to know what had happened to Lord Xiyou. She had never seen him; by the time she was born, Lord Xiyou had already closed himself off for cultivation. Before her aunt passed away, she passed on the Divine Array to her, granting her Lord Xiyou’s protection. Over the years, she had been invincible in the Six Realms. However, elders of the Phoenix clan hinted that Lord Xiyou used to transmit divine messages frequently during his seclusion, but in recent ten thousand years, there had been none. Therefore, the elders suspected Lord Xiyou might have perished.

Inside Mount Gusha, there was another barrier, presumably set up by Lord Xiyou himself. Haowei noticed the barrier’s magic was extremely weak, nearly collapsing. With a gentle spell, he shattered the barrier instantly.

They descended into the depths of the mountain, where darkness surrounded them. Haowei conjured a flame to illuminate their surroundings.

Inside the cave lay only a white jade bed.

On the jade bed leaned a black figure, head bowed slightly, features obscured. They sensed little presence from him, resembling more a desiccated corpse—thin and lifeless.

Si Lan and Haowei approached slowly, standing before Lord Xiyou.

Lord Xiyou still showed no response.

Si Lan observed him and couldn’t help but look at Haowei, silently questioning if they had found the right person.

Haowei responded with a look confirming they hadn’t made a mistake; this was supposed to be Lord Xiyou.

Yet, it wasn’t as they had imagined.

“Lord Xiyou, we pay our respects,” Si Lan bowed slightly. However, the dark figure remained unresponsive. Si Lan noticed a part of his arm exposed to be turning black and couldn’t help but suspect…

With courage, Si Lan extended his hand towards the figure’s nose to check for any sign of life. As his fingers touched the desiccated body, it slowly stirred. The head lifted, revealing murky, yellowed eyes meeting Si Lan’s gaze.

“Junli, we’ve waited for you for twenty thousand years.”

Chapter 56 – Men helping men

Chapter 56

Si Lan remained silent as the dragon tail that had lightly touched the back of his neck slowly slid downward, tracing along his spine and tailbone…

Si Lan suddenly shivered and reached out to grasp the tail that was trying to invade further. He mumbled, “I was just a bit curious, thinking about what you said a few days ago about there being another one under your scales, cough cough…” After speaking, Si Lan’s face turned bright red, and he could only cough a few times to cover his embarrassment.

Haowei’s lips curved slightly, and his tail suddenly slapped the water, splashing it everywhere. When it resurfaced, the tail had doubled in size, water droplets falling from the white scales and creating ripples in the water.

The slender tail gently encircled Si Lan’s waist, but the tip provocatively traced Si Lan’s chest. Si Lan felt both cold and hot at the same time—the coldness came from the cool scales against his skin, while the heat was internal, his blood seemingly boiling and burning wherever the scales touched.

Haowei’s face was obscured by a rising white mist, and his deep voice carried a husky, magnetic quality, “So curious, what do you want to do?”

“Curiosity,” Si Lan replied honestly. After all, not many creatures have two of them.

Haowei was actually quite shy. Before meeting Si Lan, he never discussed matters of love and affection, let alone said such flirtatious words. But after falling in love with Si Lan, he seemed to have changed completely, instinctively knowing what to do.

No wonder the Goddess Mother used to say he was too dull and needed someone to teach him, while Yu Wudao interrupted, saying that men naturally change when the time comes, so there’s no need to worry.

It turns out that meeting the right person can indeed soften the heart, thicken the skin, and harden other parts.

Hearing Si Lan mention “curiosity,” Haowei paused slightly, a wave of heat rising in his chest, unsure if it was from embarrassment or awkwardness.

Si Lan actually considered him a subject of curiosity.

He leaned closer to Si Lan, “Perhaps this strange form of mine is meant to match you.”

“Match me?” Si Lan didn’t understand. What did it have to do with him?

Looking at his own reflection in Haowei’s eyes, Si Lan inexplicably felt he appeared exceptionally delicate and alluring at this moment. Behind him, the white dragon tail coiled, poised to strike.

He couldn’t help but nervously swallow.

“You are the reincarnation of the Child of Heaven; your body must be different from ordinary men.”

“…” Si Lan.

“You and I are destined for each other, perhaps because you are a pair, and I am a match.”

Si Lan’s face turned even redder. He had explained before that his past life as Jun Li had nothing to do with him now. If he were thick-skinned enough, he would have stripped to let Haowei see for himself.

He slowly denied, “We are not destined for each other.”

“Hmm?” Haowei’s tone rose.

“The fortune-teller said my destined one would have a demonic heart and a serpent’s courage, which doesn’t describe you.”

Haowei squinted his eyes, “When did you see the fortune-teller again?”

“Ah, just after we returned from Dayong Mountain.”

Upon hearing this, Haowei suddenly understood why Si Lan had been acting strangely. Si Lan used to always talk about how they were fated to be together, but he stopped mentioning it recently.

When they met in the Thirty-Three Heavens, Si Lan wanted to leave immediately upon seeing him. At that time, Haowei didn’t understand why, but now all the strange behavior made sense, connecting to this clue.

He wasn’t Si Lan’s fated one after all.

“So, who is your fated one?” Haowei’s demeanor seemed calm, but the scales on his tail twitched slightly, each one seemingly suppressed yet restless.

“The Torch Snake.”

“…” Haowei.

Si Lan felt uncomfortable as Haowei’s scales brushed against him. Hurriedly trying to comfort him, Si Lan said, “But that Torch Snake is dead. Besides, I don’t believe in that fortune teller’s words. Who destiny dictates doesn’t matter as much as who we choose to love.”

Haowei’s scales settled down again. He rested both hands on the edge of the pool, a strand of black hair lightly clinging to his cheek, his deep eyes like the sea. Ignoring Si Lan’s somewhat “profound confession,” he changed the subject, “What does ‘Serpent’s gall creating monsters’ mean?”

“It roughly means having snake gall in one’s body.”

Haowei’s eyes flickered gently, a faint smirk on his lips as he calmly replied, “Oh, I killed the Torch Snake back then and swallowed its gall. By that standard, your fated one is still me.”

“…” Si Lan.

Seeing Si Lan’s skeptical gaze, Haowei pointed to his own heart, saying, “My spiritual center has been affected by demonic energy, a result of an injury to my spiritual core that has yet to dissipate.”

“…” Si Lan was momentarily at a loss for words, staring blankly at Haowei. He had thought Haowei had killed his fated one, but now it seemed it had circled back to him.

“Is that so?” Si Lan’s voice trembled slightly as he murmured in disbelief. Perhaps due to the water being too warm, mist gathered in his eyes, making them slightly moist.

Thankfully, during their time on Yingzhou Island, he had steadfastly chosen Haowei, avoiding a decision he might regret for a lifetime.

“Mm.” Haowei nodded slightly. His tail pulled Si Lan closer, wrapping around his waist and abdomen, the beastly nature beneath the scales almost revealing itself.

Si Lan was still immersed in a mix of joy and shock, oblivious to the anomaly. He reached out and encircled Haowei’s waist, resting his cheek against Haowei’s shoulder. Pressed against Haowei’s chest, he could even feel Haowei’s heartbeat.

He didn’t know what to say. Life was filled with inevitabilities and tragedies, but the thread connecting them was beautiful, leading ultimately to Haowei.

Haowei’s voice was hoarse as he subtly murmured, “Si Lan, a dragon’s… can’t be interrupted. Otherwise, the dragon’s tail will be injured.”

Si Lan didn’t understand. What couldn’t be interrupted? The dragon’s tail would be injured?

Just as he was about to ask for clarification, the creature pressing against his back shifted slightly downward. In an instant, as if understanding something, his eyes widened.

What had been pressing against his back wasn’t Haowei’s dragon tail, but Haowei’s dragon…

He hadn’t expected this white dragon to be so… shameless.

His face flushed suddenly, wanting to push Haowei away, but Haowei’s tail tightened around him even more, its agile tip like a hand, teasing his sensitive skin.

“It’ll be over soon,” Haowei murmured.

In bed, a man’s words could be true or false.

Si Lan had read many books and encountered many summaries, but in practice, he ended up believing the other’s nonsense with a frown, asking, “Will the dragon tail really be injured?”

“Mm, if the essence can’t be released, it will rush to the dragon’s tail, causing it harm.” Haowei made up.

Thinking of Haowei’s dragon tail being injured, Si Lan furrowed his brow. He knew that some monsters could indeed be harmed if they couldn’t vent, but he didn’t know real dragons were like this. He felt a bit shy and nervous. When he reached back and held the dragon creature, his arm trembled slightly.

Just this touch scared him.

It was too frightening.

Completely not like a normal person.

Indeed, Haowei’s lower half had transformed into a dragon tail, which was several times larger than a human form, making the dragon creature much larger too. It took both of Si Lan’s hands just to hold onto it.

Sensing the unusual warmth and shape, Si Lan guessed it might truly harm fundamentally, hesitating briefly before gently moving his fingers.

Haowei’s breath hitched, his eyes darkening as his hands, resting on the pool’s edge, involuntarily fell onto Si Lan’s waist, seeming to both restrain and encourage him.

Si Lan never imagined he’d one day be helping someone like this.

He thought, his head must be addled from soaking in the bath. Though muttering this to himself, his actions became urgent, causing Haowei to emit a muffled groan, whether from pain or something else, which sounded incredibly pleasing and magnetic to Si Lan’s ears.

He had only intended to glance up at him, but with blurry eyes and flushed cheeks, Haowei couldn’t resist grasping the nape of Si Lan’s neck, pressing his lips against Si Lan’s.

Si Lan froze, his movements halted. The dragon creature, displeased, nudged his palm, seeking assistance. Si Lan couldn’t help but wryly smile as he responded to Haowei’s kiss while managing the situation with the dragon creature.

Estimating a normal person’s endurance, Si Lan assumed Haowei was nearly at his limit. Yet, to his surprise, Haowei’s hand was still cramping, and the dragon creature remained unsatisfied.

Feeling anxious, Si Lan decided to playfully provoke Haowei during the kiss.

Haowei, being youthful and spirited, responded eagerly. Soon after, Si Lan collapsed exhausted into Haowei’s arms, thinking everything was done, only for Haowei to speak up again.

“There’s one more thing.”

“…” Si Lan.

He might as well just kill him.

Perhaps fearing Si Lan’s disbelief, Haowei held his hand and dipped it into the water, his voice a mix of coaxing and seriousness amid the mist, “Si Lan, help me again. Or if you’re tired, you don’t need to move; I can…”

Si Lan quickly interrupted, “I’m fine.” He was afraid of losing control to someone else, which might lead to more than just helping out.

Haowei said nothing, lips slightly pursed, head leaning against him.

In the depths of emotion, Haowei suddenly found it hard to restrain himself, “Si Lan, you smell so good.” So good that he wanted to swallow Si Lan whole, to keep him forever on his tongue.

Si Lan was unaware of any scent on himself. Upon hearing this, he blushed deeply and murmured softly, “What nonsense are you talking about?” How could a man like him smell fragrant?

Haowei buried his head in Si Lan’s neck and muttered, “Really fragrant.”

“…,” Si Lan fell silent.

Si Lan stopped arguing with him and only wanted to quickly finish what he was doing. In his heart, he complained about fate. He didn’t understand why fate would give dragons such as himself double the pleasure.

Little did he know, their double pleasure meant double pain for others.

He was almost exhausted to the point of collapse by the time he finished attending to Haowei. He vaguely thought that he would never invite Haowei to bathe again.

His dragon tail was unharmed, but his elbow was almost broken.

In the end, the one who suffered injuries was himself.

Seeing that Si Lan was truly tired, Haowei carried him back to rest in the main hall. Si Lan was now limp like a strand of silk, sinking softly into the blanket, looking like a tender bamboo shoot stripped of its skin.

Haowei stared at him with gentle indulgence in his eyes.

So easy to deceive.

Whatever he said, Si Lan believed it, foolishly cute.

If only he had known how easy it was to deceive… Haowei’s throat moved slightly, a hint of something sinister fleeting across his eyes. He should have dismantled and devoured him earlier.

He lay on the outer edge with his clothes on. Just as he lay down, Si Lan turned over and weakly held his arm.

Thinking Si Lan wanted to say something, Haowei leaned closer. Instead, he heard Si Lan say, “Yu Wuxia…”

“…,” Haowei was taken aback.

“I’ve thought it over carefully. Yu Wuxia is likely causing trouble at the boundary between the Demon Realm and the Human Realm. We should visit Linglong Mountain again.”

“When did you think of this?”

“Just now, while we were bathing,” Si Lan snorted and closed his eyes.

Haowei’s brow furrowed. While they were bathing, Si Lan was thinking about Yu Wuxia?

Haowei’s face darkened ominously. Just as he was about to say something, he lowered his gaze and found that Si Lan in his arms had already fallen asleep. He seemed quite tired, breathing slightly heavily, with faint shadows cast by his long eyelashes making his face look somewhat weary.

After a while, Haowei calmed down and reached out to touch Si Lan’s waist. “Wavering between two choices.”

He needed to sort out these wild thoughts. Si Lan needed to understand that some matters couldn’t be brought into the bedroom.

Si Lan had indeed been deeply engrossed in thoughts of Yu Wuxia. In his dream, he saw Yu Wuxia, but couldn’t discern his face, only a grey monk’s robe swaying in the wind.

Yu Wuxia led him to a waterfall in the dream. The waterfall instantly stopped and turned into a giant mirror. In the mirror appeared a new world, different from the current Six Realms.

Yu Wuxia’s voice echoed in his ears, “Reincarnation fails a hundred times, and this life you will fail too.”

Si Lan didn’t understand what Yu Wuxia meant. When he looked up to say something, Yu Wuxia’s figure gradually dissipated. He reached out to grab him, but only caught a few specks of starlight.

From halfway in the air came Yu Wuxia’s voice, “When the Six Realms change, the Eight Cycles must be replaced.”

Si Lan suddenly woke up from his dream, Yu Wuxia’s words lingering in his ears.

“When the Six Realms change, the Eight Cycles must be replaced.”

This dream… it didn’t seem like something he concocted randomly. It felt more like Yu Wuxia intentionally entered his dream to speak with him.

He had thought Yu Wuxia was hiding, unwilling to be found. Now it seemed Yu Wuxia hadn’t hidden anything at all; he had merely been playing a game of cat and mouse with them.

Slowly leading them to unravel the mystery and forcing them to take the bait.

Haowei also woke up, and upon seeing Si Lan’s dazed expression, asked, “What’s wrong?”

“I dreamt of Yu Wuxia.”

Upon hearing this, Haowei’s face grew serious. “What kind of dream?”

Si Lan then recounted the details of his dream to Haowei. The more Haowei listened, the darker his expression became.

Reincarnation fails a hundred times? When the Six Realms change, the Eight Cycles must be replaced?

Haowei suddenly understood what Yu Wuxia intended to do. As the divine strategist had predicted, Yu Wuxia didn’t seek to destroy the Six Realms but to overturn reincarnation and establish a new Six Realms.

For the Six Realms, it wouldn’t mean destruction.

But for the people of the current Six Realms, it would mean utter devastation.

Si Lan also grasped the meaning behind these words. He opened his mouth in disbelief, “How could he possibly establish a new Six Realms? Perhaps in this world, the only one who could easily destroy the Six Realms and establish them anew is the Heavenly Dao.”

Haowei cast a spell, and a three-dimensional map of the Six Realms appeared before them. He marked Xuanling Mountain, Dayong Mountain, Yingzhou Island, and Linglong Mountain on it.

According to their earlier speculation, there should be a place where the boundary between the Underworld and the Human Realm meets. Currently, nothing had happened in the Underworld, but they could still roughly mark its location.

After marking these five points, they found that they formed the five points of a pentagram, with the Human Realm at its center.

Frowning, Haowei muttered, “I wonder what this means? Perhaps only the Elder God, Zhuyou, can unravel this mystery.”

Zhuyou, the eldest god in the Six Realms, had been in seclusion for over ten thousand years.

He was also the god who indirectly caused the death of Si Lan’s mother.

Chapter 7 – Who picked up the sachet I gave to the future queen?

Chapter 7 – Who picked up the sachet I gave to the future queen?

Xiao Shiqing raised an eyebrow, his smile now tinged with a hint of intrigue. “Your Majesty, you still want to call me ‘older brother’?”

Seeing that Zhao Qi did not respond, Xiao Shiqing laughed, “I would never dare ask His Majesty to call me that.”

Zhao Qi was furious, “Then why did you make me call you that?”

“I merely asked in passing, I didn’t expect His Majesty to actually use it,” Xiao Shiqing replied, “And it sounds quite nice.”

Zhao Qi was seething with anger but couldn’t vent it on Xiao Shiqing. He channeled his frustration into his appetite, taking a piece of red bean cake from the snacks he brought. He bit into half of it, deciding to endure this wave of irritation and work on increasing Xiao Shiqing’s favorability later.

Xiao Shiqing watched him eat and asked, “Is it good?”

Zhao Qi held up the red bean cake and nodded, “It’s good. Would you like some?”

“Do you want to have a drink?” Xiao Shiqing asked.

Zhao Qi was taken aback, “What?”

“Wine,” Xiao Shiqing said as he closed the memorial. “I’m also a bit tired. Would Your Majesty accompany me for a drink?”

Zhao Qi did not think that calling Xiao Shiqing “older brother” twice meant they could now drink together. He observed Xiao Shiqing’s expression, which was half-smiling and half-serious, and sensed an ulterior motive.

“Does His Majesty not want to?”

Zhao Qi hesitated, “I…”

“Isn’t it customary for brothers to drink together?” Xiao Shiqing said leisurely. “Or is His Majesty worried I might poison the wine like Rong Tang?”

“That’s not the case,” Zhao Qi said. Xiao Shiqing had mentioned that his death would cause considerable trouble, so Zhao Qi was sure he wouldn’t be killed at the moment. Since his life was not in immediate danger, he had nothing to lose. “If the Prime Minister wants to drink, I’ll accompany him.”

The eunuchs brought in the wine and snacks, and Xiao Shiqing dismissed everyone else, pouring two cups of wine himself. “I toast to His Majesty. May the dragon vein flourish and Da Jing prosper.”

Zhao Qi forced a smile, “May the Prime Minister have a long life and many descendants.” He clinked glasses with Xiao Shiqing and took a small sip of the wine. It had to be said, the wine was quite pleasant—smooth and fragrant, without any sharp taste, leaving a lingering aftertaste.

Xiao Shiqing noticed his astonished expression and asked, “Is it good?”

Zhao Qi nodded, “Yes!”

Xiao Shiqing smiled, “Then drink more. This wine…” He played with the wine cup, “Is not easily intoxicating.”

Zhao Qi kept his guard up, cautious not to drink too much, but the wine’s aftereffect was strong. After just a small cup, he started to feel lightheaded. Initially, he could maintain some clarity, but gradually, his mind became muddled, and his vision started to blur. Xiao Shiqing’s voice seemed to come from another space.

“Your Majesty.”

Zhao Qi, barely keeping his eyes open, mumbled, “Prime Minister?”

Xiao Shiqing’s tone carried an irresistible force, “Tell me, are you Zhao Qi?”

Zhao Qi thought the question was absurd, “I’m not…”

Xiao Shiqing narrowed his eyes, “Hmm?”

“I’m not Zhao Qi… hic, who else could I be?”

Xiao Shiqing’s expression softened slightly, “You’ve been acting so out of character lately. Has someone told you to do this or given you such orders?”

Zhao Qi shook his head.

Xiao Shiqing continued, “Why have you suddenly shown favor towards me? The Empress Dowager has advised you for years, yet you’ve always acted independently. Why have you started listening to her this time?”

Zhao Qi stared blankly at him. Suddenly, his eyes reddened. He grabbed Xiao Shiqing’s hand and said, full of grievance, “Prime Minister, I don’t want to die!”

Xiao Shiqing was rarely surprised, “What?”

“Wuwuwu… I don’t want to die, I don’t want to be hated by everyone, I don’t want to be a dog emperor who is overthrown, I don’t want to be tortured by Rong Tang’s revenge, but I can’t bring myself to harm them. I’m so miserable, brother—”

Xiao Shiqing was silent for a moment, “So?”

“So, please protect me and the Empress Dowager,” Zhao Qi clutched Xiao Shiqing’s sleeve, burying his head in the fragrant official robe, “Don’t leave, don’t help Zhao Tong, okay? If you promise, I’ll call you ‘Prime Minister Brother’ for life…”

Zhao Qi’s voice grew fainter and eventually trailed off as he fell asleep with his head resting on Xiao Shiqing’s arm. Xiao Shiqing used his unoccupied hand to rub his temple. “Come in.”

Jiang Dehai, who had been waiting outside, entered, “Lord Xiao, what’s the matter with the Emperor?”

“He’s drunk,” Xiao Shiqing said,“Take him back to Yonghua Palace.”

Jiang Dehai looked somewhat awkward. “Carry him?”

“Otherwise?” Xiao Shiqing said coldly, “Shall I carry him back myself?”

Jiang Dehai quickly replied, “I wouldn’t dare. However, if the Emperor is carried while drunk, he might feel uncomfortable. Please, Sir, maintain this position for now. I will find a strong eunuch to carry His Majesty back to the palace.”

Xiao Shiqing looked down at Zhao Qi, who was sleeping soundly with his arm dr4p3d over Xiao Shiqing. The young emperor’s face was flushed from the wine, his long lashes gently resting, his lips slightly parted, and even through his sleeve, Xiao Shiqing could feel his warm breath.

Xiao Shiqing tried to move his wrist a little. The young emperor frowned in displeasure, rubbing against his sleeve and hugging him tighter. “Fine. I’ll carry you this once.”

“No need to trouble the Prime Minister,” a clear voice said. “I’ll carry him. I’m quite strong.”

Jiang Dehai turned around and bowed to the approaching young man. “General He.”

Xiao Shiqing hesitated for a moment before nodding. “Alright.”

The young man moved to Xiao Shiqing’s side, lifted the inebriated emperor from him, and carried him in his arms with ease. Despite Zhao Qi being an adult man, the young man carried him effortlessly, showing no sign of strain.

“I’ll be off then.”

“After you settle His Majesty, come back here,” Xiao Shiqing said. “I need to speak with you.”

Zhao Qi slept until late morning, waking up with a throbbing headache. He only remembered drinking with Xiao Shiqing last night, and his consciousness had blurred as the night went on. He had no recollection of what happened afterward.

Jiang Dehai brought some hot water and, seeing Zhao Qi dazed on the dragon bed, asked, “Is Your Majesty feeling unwell?”

Zhao Qi furrowed his brows. “The smell of grass…” He tried to recall the events of last night and vaguely remembered smelling fresh, green grass.

Jiang Dehai asked, “What did Your Majesty say?”

“Nothing,” Zhao Qi replied, twisting his neck. “Did the Prime Minister do anything to me last night?”

“No,” Jiang Dehai said. “The Prime Minister, seeing that Your Majesty was drunk, had people take you back to your quarters.”

“That’s good,” Zhao Qi sighed in relief. “I’m hungry. Let’s have a meal.”

In March, with spring in full bloom, Empress Dowager Wen held a Hundred Flowers Banquet in the palace and invited many noble ladies to admire the flowers. Although it was billed as flower viewing, everyone knew it was actually to select a future consort for the emperor.

Zhao Qi knew he couldn’t avoid it and reluctantly went to see Empress Dowager Wen. She was seated in a pavilion, looking at the nearby peach blossom grove, and said to Zhao Qi, “The noble ladies chosen for you by the Prime Minister and me are waiting in the grove. Come meet them with me.”

Zhao Qi grumbled, “Do I have to meet them?”

Empress Dowager Wen gently advised, “Qi’er, don’t you love looking at beautiful women? These noble ladies are all stunning, and they might even rival Rong Tang.”

Zhao Qi relented, “Then I’ll go alone. Mother, you don’t need to accompany me.”

Empress Dowager Wen was surprised. “Why?”

Zhao Qi thought it was a bit strange to have a parent present during an arranged meeting. He thought for a moment and said, “Because I want to observe secretly, analyze calmly, and come to my own conclusion. Mother, those noble ladies might not be themselves in our presence. I want to see their true selves.”

Empress Dowager Wen understood Zhao Qi’s intention and smiled. “Qi’er, everyone puts on a facade in front of others. Why be too strict?”

Zhao Qi replied, “Mother once said that the empress is not only my empress but also the empress of the Dajing Dynasty. The person who will be the model of virtue for the nation in the future. What’s wrong with being a bit demanding?”

“You have a point,” Empress Dowager Wen said with a gentle smile. “Qi’er, since you’re feeling better, your disposition has improved as well. I’m very pleased. Go ahead, it’s not a big deal.”

Zhao Qi happily said, “Thank you, Mother.”

“Wait.” Empress Dowager Wen glanced at the palace maid Yunxiu, who nodded and presented a delicate wooden box. “Inside is a fine sachet. If you come across a noble lady you like, give this sachet to her.”

Zhao Qi took the sachet and entered the peach blossom grove. The peach blossoms were in full bloom, with petals drifting down like light rain, landing on his shoulders. After walking for a while, he heard voices ahead and turned to the eunuch following him. “You don’t need to follow me.”

The voices grew clearer, and Zhao Qi imagined a grand scene. Following the typical palace drama script, he was supposed to meet a young woman under the peach blossom rain, push her on a swing, flirt with her under a false identity, then reveal himself and marry her, enjoying a sweet life. Later, due to some conflict, she would leave, and after some time, she would return, and he would help raise children for another man before meeting his end—just thinking about it made him feel suffocated.

A burst of crying interrupted Zhao Qi’s imagination. He hid behind a peach tree and saw two elegantly dressed and beautiful young women. One was wiping her tears with a handkerchief, while the other was patting her back in comfort.

“Little sister, stop crying. If the emperor and the empress dowager see you like this, you might be punished for improper behavior…”

“Then let them punish me! I’d rather be punished than become the empress! Sister, I’ve heard that the emperor has a fierce appearance and a cruel nature. Marrying him is like pushing me into a pit of fire!”

“Little sister, be quiet! This is the palace, everywhere is filled with spies. If you speak like this, the entire Du family will be implicated!”

The young girl bit her lip, tears streaming down her face. “I had resigned myself to this fate, but as soon as I saw you, I couldn’t help but express my feelings. I’ve been holding this in for too long.”

“Sigh, I understand how you feel. Don’t worry too much. In terms of family background and appearance, we can’t compare with the other noble ladies. I don’t think the empress position is meant for us.”

“Really? Is there such good news?!”

…Apologies for the interruption. I’ll take my leave.

Zhao Qi turned to leave but stumbled over a small stone—what the heck?

He watched helplessly as the ground approached, closed his eyes, and braced for a close encounter with the earth, his hand still clutching the sachet, which flew out of his grasp.

He lay on the ground for a moment, pretending to be dead. When the pain lessened, he slowly sat up, trying to reach for the fallen sachet.

A dark figure appeared in his line of sight. Zhao Qi recognized it as the Prime Minister’s official robes and immediately wanted to find a hole to hide in—damn it, Xiao Shiqing would never miss an opportunity to see him make a fool of himself.

A teasing voice came from above him. “What is Your Majesty doing?”

Zhao Qi muttered, “Picking up something.”

Just as he was about to retrieve the sachet, a hand appeared in front of him, snatching it up first.

Zhao Qi looked up and accidentally met the gaze of the other person. It was a young man in a fitted outfit, tall and handsome, with a confident demeanor. He looked at Zhao Qi with a smirk, “Is His Majesty trying to pick this up?”

As the young man spoke, Zhao Qi caught the faint, fresh scent of grass again.

Chapter 20 – I Don't Want You Anymore

Chapter 20: I Don’t Want You Anymore

Although Su Muluo opened his eyes as soon as he noticed something was wrong, there was no one by his side, only a little black dragon looking at him with round, innocent eyes.

“…”

Su Muluo looked left and right but found no one. He poked the little black dragon and asked, “Did you grow bigger again?”

The little black dragon shook its head: “Aow.”

No, it hadn’t. It had been behaving well the whole time.

Su Muluo’s eyes showed a hint of suspicion, “Really?”

But just now, he wasn’t pressed by a bigger dragon; it felt more like someone was holding him… yet there was no one else around.

Unable to figure it out, Su Muluo glanced at the little black dragon again.

Could it be… his dragon turned into a human?

But that didn’t seem right. If it really had turned into a human, this little dragon would definitely be showing off happily and taking advantage of him, instead of sitting here innocently like nothing had happened.

While Su Muluo was deep in thought, the little black dragon’s dark golden eyes stared at him unblinkingly, and after a while, it flicked its tail and let out a soft “Aow.”

It was a bit sleepy.

Su Muluo looked at it and said, “Alright, let’s sleep.”

The little black dragon was about to happily snuggle with Su Muluo when his phoenix calmly added, “Anyway, if there’s a rat’s tail, it will show sooner or later.”

The little black dragon: “…”

It was still early in the morning, and Su Muluo lay back down, pulling the soft blanket over himself and the little dragon beside him.

The little black dragon curled up at Su Muluo’s shoulder, yawning softly. Su Muluo pinched its little horns and said, “Don’t disturb me.”

The little black dragon: “Aow!”

It had never disturbed anyone!

Su Muluo laughed and said, “Then don’t take advantage of me.”

The little black dragon fell silent.

Su Muluo squinted slightly, “Why aren’t you responding?”

The little black dragon: “Chirp.”

Looking innocent again, the little dragon stared at Su Muluo for a few seconds before he quickly reached out to grab its tail.

The little black dragon quickly hugged its own tail, watching him warily.

Su Muluo: Tsk.

He still couldn’t catch the little black dragon’s tail today. He patted its head and said, “Sleep.”

In the second half of the night, the man did not appear beside Su Muluo again. He slept soundly and had a strange dream.

In the dream, it seemed like a distant past, and the surroundings were unfamiliar. It wasn’t a city with tall buildings but a secluded paradise, with a clear stream flowing gently and green mountains stretching far away.

Here, Su Muluo seemed to become someone else, or perhaps he was still himself—his long black hair unbound, casually falling over his shoulders. He wore a loose white robe, walking slowly by the stream alone.

But soon, he realized he wasn’t alone; he was walking with another person.

It was a black-haired boy, not even reaching his waist, with small dragon horns on his head, silently holding onto the hem of his robe, following closely beside him.

Su Muluo’s gaze fell on the boy’s face, but before he could see clearly, the dream ended.

Then he woke up.

“…”

Daylight poured through the window. Still sleepy, Su Muluo buried himself deeper into the blanket.

The little black dragon was already awake, circling around him, its small horns rubbing against his face.

Su Muluo felt a tickle on his face and chuckled, recalling the boy in his dream who also had small horns. His drowsiness vanished instantly.

What kind of dream was that?

Who were the black-haired man and the boy?

Su Muluo opened his eyes and met the little black dragon’s dark golden gaze.

Did the boy in the dream have such dark golden eyes?

…He couldn’t remember clearly.

Frowning, Su Muluo sat up, placing the little black dragon in his palm.

He felt something was off lately, and that dream probably wasn’t just a dream… Maybe it was his past.

But why would he suddenly dream of his past?

While Su Muluo was silent, the little black dragon sensed his dilemma. It hugged his finger and softly called out, “Chirp.”

Su Muluo’s attention returned, and he looked at the little dragon, teasing it with his finger, “I dreamt of someone else last night.”

The little black dragon: “?”

Its eyes widened at Su Muluo, looking shocked and incredulous as if thinking, “My phoenix found another man outside?”

Su Muluo was amused by its expression and said, “What are you thinking? It was just a dream.” He then jokingly added, “Anyway, you can’t turn into a human right now, so what’s wrong with me dreaming of someone else?”

The little black dragon: “???”

Whatever Su Muluo said seemed to hit a nerve. The little black dragon suddenly tilted its head back and started chirping loudly, looking very angry.

Listening for a while, Su Muluo realized he couldn’t understand what the little dragon was babbling about. Finding it noisy, he stuffed it into his pocket and said, “So noisy, let’s go, I’m not listening to you.”

The little black dragon: “…”

Angry, it scratched at Su Muluo’s pocket but got no response. Then it let out a loud “Aow.”

Su Muluo reached a hand in, and the little black dragon clung to it.

“Who told you to babble nonsense,” Su Muluo said with a smile in his eyes, “I can’t understand a thing.”

The little black dragon huffed and turned its head away.

Su Muluo found it adorable and couldn’t help but laugh, patting its head before heading to the kitchen to make breakfast.

At ten o’clock, Su Muluo arrived at the coffee shop on time. There were not many customers yet, so he scrolled through his phone, accidentally opening WeChat’s Moments.

He didn’t have many friends on WeChat—his landlord was one, Huang Gaigai was another, and recently, he had added Liu He.

Su Muluo thought that Liu He, being busy with work at the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings, wouldn’t have time for her phone. To his surprise, she had posted on Moments just a few minutes ago.

“Is that dumb leader brain-dead? Inspections, inspections every day, why doesn’t he go climb a mountain!!”

“My vacation, argh!! I want a break, I want to eat hot pot, barbecue, and crayfish!!!”

Su Muluo: “…”

This post was quite different from the Liu He he usually interacted with. However, seeing her post reminded him that he had some questions for Liu He.

So he clicked on Liu He’s profile picture and sent her a message.

“Excuse me, is there anything in the Bureau of Supernatural Affairs that can help someone recall their past?”

The question was a bit strange, but Liu He responded quickly.

“Yes, Mr. Su. You’re referring to the Source Mirror. It allows one to see the past of someone important to them and is a high-grade artifact.”

“If you need it, I can apply for its use, but it might take some time.”

Su Muluo had asked casually and didn’t expect such an artifact to exist. He felt it was fine to wait a while, so he thanked Liu He.

According to Liu He, the Source Mirror shows the past of someone important, not oneself. So if the mirror could be used, he might see the little black dragon’s past…

Thinking this, Su Muluo glanced at the little black dragon.

The little black dragon was also watching him. Seeing him chatting with Liu He, it immediately chirped and blocked the phone screen.

Su Muluo: “Pfft.”

He poked the little black dragon, “Little jealous one, getting jealous over this too.”

The little black dragon chirped indignantly, meaning it wanted to be jealous if it wanted to.

Su Muluo’s eyes curved, and he said, “You’re too small to block the screen. Turn into a human if you can.” He paused, then added, “But you have to be good-looking; I don’t want an ugly one.”

This was meant as a joke, but the little black dragon suddenly fell silent, not moving at all.

Su Muluo: “What’s wrong?”

He raised his hand to touch the little black dragon, but it refused his touch, hugging its tail and curling up into a ball, looking like it had shut down.

Su Muluo fell silent.

He had no idea why the little dragon suddenly shut down, feeling he hadn’t bullied it.

Was it because of that last sentence?

Thinking about it, Su Muluo realized that today the little black dragon seemed very sensitive to the topic of turning into a human. Observing it for a while, he raised an eyebrow and said, “Today, you reacted strongly both times I mentioned turning into a human.”

The little black dragon: “…”

Su Muluo: “So, how long until you turn into a human since you hatched?”

The little black dragon slowly lifted its head, looking up with innocent eyes, “Chirp.”

What’s it saying? It didn’t know.

Su Muluo wouldn’t let it off so easily, leaning in closer, staring at the little dragon, “It didn’t take me that long to transform. Are you really just a little mudfish spirit who can’t turn into a human?”

At

these words, the little black dragon flared up, baring its tiny fangs and claws, growling at him.

Su Muluo chuckled, “Just kidding. What’s the big deal? Anyway, I still want you, whether you turn into a human or not.”

The little black dragon stopped baring its fangs, “Chirp?”

“Really?”

Su Muluo: “Really.”

No matter what you become, as long as you are yourself, I will always accept you.

The little black dragon’s eyes sparkled, and it softly nuzzled Su Muluo’s hand.

Su Muluo smiled gently. Looking at the time, he set the little black dragon aside and began preparing for the day’s work.

Throughout the day, the little black dragon didn’t cause any trouble. It stayed on the counter, watching him work, occasionally chirping softly. It was peaceful and content.

By evening, the coffee shop was busy. As Su Muluo served a customer, he overheard a couple discussing their upcoming vacation plans.

Hearing them, Su Muluo’s thoughts wandered. He hadn’t taken a break in a long time either.

Maybe after sorting out his past, he should take a vacation.

Thinking this, Su Muluo smiled to himself and continued his work.

Back home, Su Muluo opened his door, expecting to see his little black dragon zooming around. However, the house was eerily quiet.

He immediately sensed something was wrong. He rushed inside, calling out, “Little Black! Where are you?”

There was no response.

Su Muluo quickly checked every corner of the house but couldn’t find the little dragon. Panic started to set in.

Just as he was about to check the garden, he saw a familiar figure standing by the window.

It was a man in black, with dark golden eyes. He was holding the little black dragon, who looked listless and weak.

“Who are you?” Su Muluo demanded, his eyes filled with fury.

The man turned slowly, his gaze calm and composed, “I’m the guardian of this little dragon. You are not worthy of it.”

Su Muluo clenched his fists, stepping forward, “Let it go.”

The man smirked, “You think you can command me?”

Su Muluo’s eyes glowed with a fierce light, “I said, let it go.”

The man remained unfazed, “If you want it back, prove your worth.”

Before Su Muluo could react, the man and the little black dragon vanished into thin air.

Su Muluo stood there, his heart pounding, his mind racing. The little black dragon was taken from him, and he needed to get it back.

No matter what it took.

This statement had a bit of a fierce tone. After hearing it, Su Muluo fell silent for a moment.

So the little dragon’s sulking earlier was really because of his remark, “I only want good-looking ones, not ugly ones”?

Su Muluo remembered the man in black he had seen in his dream. Although the man’s face was obscured, just from seeing those dark golden dragon eyes, he could tell that he should be very handsome.

So what exactly was this little dragon so hung up on?

Thinking about this, Su Muluo poked the little black dragon and said, “I never said you were ugly. Even if you were, I would still like you.”

This was true. He didn’t care much about appearances. If he did, he would have disliked the little black dragon when it was still an egg—after all, it looked like a duck egg back then.

Besides, looks can’t be eaten. After being together for so long, would he really reject the little dragon because of its appearance?

Su Muluo shared his thoughts with the little black dragon, and upon hearing this, it happily rolled around in his palm.

Seeing its joyful demeanor, Su Muluo was slightly speechless.

So, his dragon turning into a human form wouldn’t actually be that ugly, right?

…Well, ugly is ugly. Ultimately, he still liked this dragon.

He petted the little black dragon, letting it frolic around.

After a while, two young girls came into the coffee shop. They ordered two regular coffees and sat by the window, chatting about dinner.

“Hey, a new hot pot place opened nearby. Want to try it?”

“Definitely! I haven’t had hot pot in ages!”

Hearing the words “hot pot,” Su Muluo perked up.

He had seen many hot pot places in the area, with steaming, aromatic dishes that looked especially delicious. But since the little black dragon hadn’t transformed into a human yet, he couldn’t go, so he could only imagine it.

Now, hearing the girls’ conversation, he craved hot pot again. Although he couldn’t go to a hot pot restaurant for now, making it at home should be possible, right?

Su Muluo immediately took out his phone to search for how to make hot pot at home.

The little black dragon, also interested in hot pot, leaned over to watch. After researching for a while, they decided to have hot pot for dinner tonight.

However, making hot pot required a lot of preparation, so Su Muluo planned to close the shop early this afternoon and head to the supermarket to buy ingredients.

In the afternoon, the coffee shop got busier. A young man with an earring walked in.

Su Muluo remembered him from yesterday; the young man had shown great interest in the little black dragon. He immediately tucked the dragon into his pocket and asked, “What would you like to drink?”

The young man seemed more cheerful today and casually ordered a “specialty coffee,” then enthusiastically said, “Boss, your specialty coffee is amazing! After drinking it, I felt more energetic and even stronger!”

Su Muluo replied, “It contains my family’s secret recipe, which is beneficial to health.”

The young man exclaimed, “Oh! That explains it! This morning, I carried fifty pounds of rice and a sofa upstairs in one go!”

Su Muluo: “…”

Although the essence of phoenix feathers could improve physical constitution, it shouldn’t work like that!

“You must have eaten something else unusual,” Su Muluo said diplomatically. “My coffee alone can’t make people stronger.”

The young man pondered for a moment and then shrugged, “Maybe. Anyway, as long as your coffee tastes good, that’s all that matters.”

He pulled out some cash to pay Su Muluo and glanced at his hand, disappointed not to see the toy loach from yesterday.

Su Muluo, not wanting him to see his dragon, said, “Please find a seat.”

After sending the young man away, he reached into his pocket and poked the little black dragon.

The little black dragon, not understanding, happily rubbed against his finger.

Business was good today, but Su Muluo was eager for hot pot, so he closed the shop early and headed to the supermarket with the little black dragon.

At the supermarket, Su Muluo referred to his phone’s notes while filling the cart with beef, tripe, fresh shrimp, enoki mushrooms, and other ingredients. He also bought several hot pot bases and a divided pot for convenience.

Once they had everything, they returned to the apartment and started preparing for the hot pot.

He boiled water in the pot, added a chicken stuffed with scallions and ginger, and simmered it slowly. Vegetables were meticulously cleaned, beef sliced into tender pieces, tripe cut thinly, and shrimp deveined. Two hours later, the chicken broth was ready. He took out the chicken, shredded the meat, mixed it with soy sauce, sesame oil, and minced scallions, ginger, and garlic. He then poured the broth into the divided pot and added a large chunk of spicy hot pot base to one side.

Next came the meat and vegetables. Beef rolled through the spicy broth, dipped in the prepared sauce, was tender and spicy, with oil dripping.

Recalling the previous water-boiled fish incident, Su Muluo prepared a clear broth for the little black dragon. While the clear broth was delicious, it couldn’t compare to the fragrant and spicy broth.

The little black dragon, eating the beef Su Muluo dipped for it, kept glancing at the spicy pot.

Seeing this, Su Muluo dipped a piece of tripe in the spicy pot and teased, “Want to eat this?”

The tripe, coated in spicy oil, looked very tempting. The little black dragon immediately got excited and chirped.

Su Muluo then ate it himself, “Not giving it to you.”

Little black dragon: “…”

In the dragon’s resentful gaze, Su Muluo laughed, went to the kitchen, and fetched a bowl. He ladled some clear broth into it, dipped the tripe in the spicy pot, then swirled it in the clear broth before feeding it to the little black dragon.

The little black dragon wasn’t good with spicy food; the water-boiled fish last time had it howling. But this tripe, dipped in the spicy pot and then the clear broth, retained the spicy flavor without being too hot.

The little black dragon happily ate it and wasn’t spicy this time, wagging its tail contentedly.

After the meal, the little black dragon, with a round belly, sprawled in Su Muluo’s palm, showing its belly. Su Muluo rubbed its tummy and laughed, “You ate so much, you look even chubbier.”

Hearing this, the little black dragon stared intently at Su Muluo.

Su Muluo: “Got it, got it, even if you’re chubby, I still like you.”

The little black dragon hummed, wriggling in the phoenix’s palm.

Staring at the little dragon, Su Muluo felt that it was particularly concerned about its image today, but still refused to transform into a human, keeping him on edge. Very annoying.

He tapped the little black dragon’s head, and it clung to his wrist with a chirp.

Although hot pot was delicious, cleaning up was a hassle. A few minutes later, looking at the pile of dishes, Su Muluo thought, when the little black dragon turned into a human, he would make him wash dishes every day.

And do all the housework!

The little black dragon, nestled in the phoenix’s pocket because the phoenix had to wash dishes, suddenly shivered and sneezed.

Two days later, Liu He contacted Su Muluo, informing him that the Tracing Mirror had been delivered to the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings If he needed it, he could come over anytime.

“Alright, thank you.”

After hanging up, Su Muluo poked the little black dragon, “We’re going to the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings.”

He had mentioned wanting the Tracing Mirror to the little black dragon earlier, and now the little dragon chirped in agreement.

Su Muluo put the little dragon in his pocket and set off.

The Bureau of Extraordinary Beings was as busy as ever. Liu He was waiting at the door, and when she saw Su Muluo, she quickly walked over.

“Mr. Su,” she greeted with a smile, “Good morning.”

Su Muluo smiled back slightly, “Good morning, and thank you for your help.”

“It was no trouble at all. We often move the Tracing Mirror around, so the procedures are quite simple,” Liu He replied. “Please follow me.”

She and Su Muluo walked into the Special Bureau, and at that moment, a group of people were approaching the entrance. When the two groups met, Liu He respectfully greeted the man at the forefront, “Elder Feng.”

The man she addressed as “Elder Feng” acknowledged her. He hadn’t paid much attention to the two of them initially, but when his gaze landed on Su Muluo, he stopped in his tracks.

Su Muluo remained calm and met the man’s eyes. He didn’t recognize him but could easily discern his true nature—a bird demon.

Based on Liu He’s earlier greeting, this person should be an elder of the bird clan. Although Su Muluo didn’t know why the bird clan elder was in Lincheng, he was confident it had nothing to do with him.

The atmosphere became tense as the bird clan elder stayed still. Liu He coughed and broke the silence, “Elder Feng, we have some business to attend to, so we’ll be leaving now.”

The bird clan elder remained silent for a few seconds before withdrawing his gaze from Su Muluo and nodding slightly.

The two groups then parted ways. After walking some distance, Liu He explained to Su Muluo, “Mr. Su, that was Feng Xuan, the bird clan elder. He arrived in Lincheng a few days ago, looking for someone.”

Su Muluo asked curiously, “Who are they looking for?”

Liu He shook her head, “They’re keeping it very secret. I’m not the one assisting them, so I don’t know.”

Su Muluo didn’t press further. He had never met that bird clan elder and didn’t think the elder knew him, so whoever the bird clan was looking for, it wasn’t him.

A few minutes later, the two arrived at a room. Inside, there was only a table with an ancient mirror on it. The mirror had a simple, elegant design with a unique aura.

Liu He said, “This is the Mirror of Origins. As long as you pick it up, you can see the past of someone important to you.”

A small black dragon curiously poked its head out of Su Muluo’s pocket, climbed onto the table, and circled the mirror.

Seeing it, Liu He’s heart skipped a beat, reminded of the fear she felt when that true dragon dominated her. Even her smile was a bit stiff. “Mr. Su, I’ll wait outside so as not to disturb you.”

Knowing she didn’t want to stay here, Su Muluo nodded gently, “Thank you.”

Liu He gave a forced smile and quickly ran out.

The room quieted down. Su Muluo looked at the Mirror of Origins and said to the little black dragon, “Shall I pick it up?”

The little black dragon responded with a chirp.

Su Muluo picked up the Mirror of Origins and saw his reflection in it—

In that instant, he felt as if he were falling from a great height into a bottomless pool. The icy water engulfed him, and for a moment, the world was filled with the sound of shattering water.

But soon, Su Muluo resurfaced, and the world became clear again. He opened his eyes to see a man dressed in black standing before him.

The man was tall and handsome with cold, dark golden eyes. His gaze held a storm-like intensity, commanding respect and awe.

Su Muluo was taken aback. The Mirror of Origins showed the past of someone important to him, which meant… the person in front of him was the human form of the little black dragon?

Hmm, quite good-looking.

As Su Muluo thought this, he suddenly saw the man walking toward him.

He knew the man wasn’t coming for him but instinctively stepped back, only to see the man walk through him to the other side—

Su Muluo’s gaze followed, his eyes narrowing slightly.

He saw another person.

It was a young man wearing a robe adorned with white feathers, with silvery hair that gleamed like frost and moonlight, partly tied up with a few strands framing his face.

The man’s face should have been extremely handsome, but Su Muluo couldn’t see it clearly. Everything around him was sharp and distinct, except for the young man’s face, which was shrouded in mist, making it blurry and indistinct.

Moreover, he felt the young man looked familiar as if he had seen him somewhere before… but he couldn’t recall where.

While Su Muluo was lost in thought, the man had already reached the young man, removed his outer robe, and dr4p3d it over him, gently clasping his slender fingers in his own. He softly called out, “Phoenix.”

Phoenix.

Hearing those words, Su Muluo felt a sharp drop in his heart, leaving a void.

The black-haired man called “Phoenix,” while the Phoenix had silvery hair, entirely different from his own. There was only one Phoenix in the world, so in the Mirror of Origins, in his dragon’s past… who was this Phoenix?

The man was already holding the young man’s hand, leading him away slowly. Su Muluo watched their intimate, almost lover-like backs, momentarily speechless.

He closed his eyes, thinking, I don’t want to be here.

—In the next second, the scene shattered, and he seemed to be swept away by a rapid current, returning to reality.

In reality, the little black dragon was holding Su Muluo’s hand, chirping happily when it saw its Phoenix open his eyes.

It was very curious about what its Phoenix would see in the Mirror of Origins. If it were truly its past, maybe it could even see itself transforming into a majestic dragon.

It was a bit excited at the thought.

However, when Su Muluo lowered his gaze and met its dark golden eyes, he remained silent for a moment.

Then he said, “I don’t want you anymore.”

The little black dragon was stunned, unable to react.

Su Muluo’s tone was somewhat aggrieved, “You have another lover outside, so I don’t want you anymore.”

The little black dragon: “…”

The little black dragon: “???”

Chapter 6 – After being embraced by Rong Tang, I was embraced by the Prime Minister.

Chapter 6 – After being embraced by Rong Tang, I was embraced by the Prime Minister.

Hearing the commotion, Rong Tang relaxed his grip slightly, and Zhao Qi seized the opportunity to free his mouth. “No, no, no, Prime Minister, you arrived just in time! Please help me, I’m going to be crushed…”

Xiao Shiqing walked to the side of the table, lifted the hem of his official robe, and took a seat with an air of ease. He poured himself a cup of tea and said slowly, “I don’t understand what Your Majesty means. At the moment, Your Majesty is in bed with a beautiful person, what is it that you need me to rescue?”

Zhao Qi was on the verge of tears, “Are you blind? Can’t you see Rong Tang is pinning me down and not letting me move? This isn’t exactly a romantic entanglement!”

Xiao Shiqing glanced at Zhao Qi and then at Rong Tang, watching the scene unfold with an amused expression. “I didn’t see.”

Rong Tang met Xiao Shiqing’s gaze, furrowed his brow, and continued to restrain Zhao Qi.

Zhao Qi gave up seeking help from Xiao Shiqing and shouted, “Someone come!”

The guards stationed outside rushed in, holding onto the hilts of their swords. “Your Majesty?”

“Quickly, get Young Master Rong off me!”

“Yes!” The guards moved to step forward, but Xiao Shiqing cast a barely perceptible glance at them. Suddenly, the guards halted, standing obediently behind Xiao Shiqing, not daring to make a move.

Zhao Qi: “…” As an emperor, he felt utterly humiliated. While everyone in the palace appeared to respect and obey him, it was clear that in their hearts, the Prime Minister’s words were the real decree.

Xiao Shiqing took a sip of tea and said, “As far as I know, Young Master Rong is still recovering from an illness and has been bedridden for a long time. This is precisely a good time for Your Majesty to show your affection for the beauty. I ask that Your Majesty allow me to stay here and observe, so I can learn from Your Majesty’s example.”

Zhao Qi’s face turned red with frustration, “Xiao Shiqing, stop making jokes…”

Xiao Shiqing set down his cup, his tone suddenly turning cold. “If you can’t even push away a sickly person, how useless are you? Get off the bed immediately!”

Stimulated by his words, Zhao Qi jolted and used all his strength to push Rong Tang. Exhausted from the prolonged struggle and his illness, Rong Tang was caught off guard and fell to the side, breaking into a fit of coughs that reddened his face.

Panicking, Zhao Qi jumped off the bed but lost his balance, tumbling straight into Xiao Shiqing’s embrace. From one scent of medicinal herbs to another of ink, the scene became quite awkward. He looked up into Xiao Shiqing’s ice-cold eyes and blurted out, “The Prime Minister was reviewing memorials before arriving, right?”

Xiao Shiqing looked back at him, “No.”

“Huh?”

“The lampshades in the Hall of Diligent Administration were removed by Your Majesty. How could I review memorials?”

Zhao Qi: “…”

Xiao Shiqing looked down at Zhao Qi’s hand resting on his shoulder and asked, “Has Your Majesty had enough of hugging?”

Zhao Qi quickly withdrew his hand, “Yes, enough.”

Xiao Shiqing patted his official robe as if something dirty had gotten on it. “Your Majesty, the Empress Dowager will soon finalize the list of candidates for the empress with me. Before that, please…” He glanced at Rong Tang, who was disheveled. “Exercise some restraint.”

“I didn’t, I didn’t! It was Rong Tang who…” Zhao Qi hesitated, swallowing the rest of his words. In front of the guards, he simply couldn’t bring himself to admit to Xiao Shiqing that he had been pretending to tease and ended up being restrained. It was too embarrassing, even though his dignity had long been lost.

Rong Tang managed to stop coughing, his eyes calm and emotionless, as if the events unfolding had nothing to do with him, a stark contrast to his earlier aggressive demeanor. Zhao Qi looked at him, feeling extremely troubled and unsure how to handle the situation.

“Forget it,” Zhao Qi said, “you should rest and take your medicine. I’ll leave now.”

Rong Tang said nothing, and Xiao Shiqing added, “Your Majesty, take care.”

“Are you not leaving, Prime Minister?”

Xiao Shiqing replied, “Does Your Majesty think I came to the study to rescue you?”

Zhao Qi was a bit confused, “If not, then why?”

Rong Tang said淡淡地, “The Prime Minister means he came to see me.”

Zhao Qi glanced at Xiao Shiqing and then at Rong Tang, alarm bells ringing in his mind. In the original novel “The Boundless Da Jing,” Xiao Shiqing and Rong Tang had several private conversations, all revolving around one person—Prince Zhao Tong.

Rong Tang was fully devoted to Zhao Tong. He knew that Xiao Shiqing was the greatest obstacle to Zhao Tong’s ascension to the throne and had repeatedly hinted for him to switch sides, abandon the ineffective emperor, and support Zhao Tong. Xiao Shiqing had feigned cooperation due to his gratitude to the Empress Dowager, until her death.

Now, with Xiao Shiqing taking the initiative to approach Rong Tang, could it be that he is contemplating rebellion? Has he really harbored a grudge against Zhao Qi for removing the lampshades and decided to betray them?

… It can’t be.

Xiao Shiqing saw Zhao Qi standing still and asked, “Your Majesty, aren’t you leaving?”

Zhao Qi hesitated for a moment and said, “I’ll leave right away.”

As soon as Zhao Qi walked out of the Drunken Book Studio, he stopped and looked back.

Jiang Dehai said, “Your Majesty?”

Zhao Qi said, “No, I need to go back and check. You don’t need to follow; just wait for me here.” He couldn’t let Xiao Shiqing be taken away by Zhao Tong so quickly. Empress Dowager Wen was right; Da Jing couldn’t do without Xiao Shiqing, and if he wanted to sit comfortably on the throne, he needed Xiao Shiqing.

Zhao Qi circled back to the Drunken Book Studio through the back door. There happened to be a window left open. He hid behind it and could see Rong Tang and Xiao Shiqing sitting face to face.

Xiao Shiqing had a faint smile on his lips as he said, “Should I say that Zhao Qi is deeply devoted to you, or should I say he’s as dumb as a pig? Almost dying on your bed last time, and today almost repeating the same mistake—this is quite an eye-opener.”

Rong Tang’s face was pale, but his lips were more vividly red than usual. “If possible, Rong Tang would like to let the Prime Minister taste the Emperor’s ‘deep devotion’.”

Xiao Shiqing casually replied, “As for the fact that you tried to poison Zhao Qi, Zhao Qi didn’t inform me or the Empress Dowager. If he had, do you think you’d still be alive to speak with me now?”

Rong Tang showed little reaction. “Then how did the Prime Minister find out?”

Xiao Shiqing chuckled, “When I want to know something, I naturally find out.”

Rong Tang nodded, “Indeed. Everyone in the palace knows that the chair you sit on during court meetings is the real Dragon Throne of Da Jing.”

Xiao Shiqing’s smile faded slightly, and he tapped the table with his fingers, saying nonchalantly, “Are you afraid I’m too comfortable? Unfortunately, this won’t reach the Empress Dowager’s ears. Even if it did, I wouldn’t care.”

Rong Tang’s eyes darkened. “Xiao Shiqing, you are well-read. You know very well that as long as Zhao Qi sits on the throne, Da Jing will never have peace.”

Zhao Qi’s heart sank. It was just as he had thought—Rong Tang wanted to undermine him for Zhao Tong.

Xiao Shiqing said lazily, “Who sits on the throne is none of my concern as long as he doesn’t interfere with my matters. Why should I oppose him?”

“But Zhao Qi does not involve himself in state affairs. What about the Empress Dowager? The Empress Dowager indulges Zhao Qi excessively and turns a blind eye to his wrongdoing. Even if Zhao Qi wanted to set off a fire and play with the feudal lords, the Empress Dowager would light the match for him.”

“Enough.” Xiao Shiqing said coldly, “Your hatred for Zhao Qi is your own issue and has nothing to do with me.”

Rong Tang sighed lightly, “Cough… It seems the Prince of Huai misjudged the Prime Minister.”

Xiao Shiqing raised an eyebrow, “By the way, before the Prince of Huai headed north, he specifically asked me to look after you in the palace. It’s no wonder you are so devoted to him. If Zhao Qi had even a tenth of his charisma, I’m afraid you would have fallen for him long ago.”

Rong Tang’s voice was heavy, “Haha, if that day truly comes, I hope the Prime Minister will grant me a cup of poison to make my death more thorough.”

Xiao Shiqing said ambiguously, “For the Prince of Huai’s sake, I won’t pursue your intention to commit regicide this time. Consider it a one-time exception.”

“Do you care about Zhao Qi’s life or death?”

“If he dies, I will have quite a bit of trouble. Moreover…” Xiao Shiqing squinted his eyes, “Since he almost got poisoned last time, he seems to have changed from the past.”

“And so?” Rong Tang was indifferent, “Zhao Qi is always Zhao Qi.”

Zhao Qi, listening from his hiding spot, felt heavy-hearted. On his way back to his sleeping quarters, he encountered the beauties of the inner palace running in circles. These beauties, kept in seclusion, rarely left the palace. Suddenly running like this, they were all disheveled and breathless. Zhao Qi felt sorry for them and had them run five more laps.

In the evening, Zhao Qi went to Ci’an Palace to have dinner with Empress Dowager Wen. Empress Dowager Wen said, “Qi’er, the Prime Minister gave me a list today, filled with talented and beautiful noble girls. They all seem quite good.”

Zhao Qi replied, “Oh.”

“I was thinking of finding an excuse to invite these girls into the palace in a few days, so you can take a look and choose one you like.”

“Thank you, Mother.”

“…” Empress Dowager Wen put down her chopsticks and asked, “Qi’er, what’s wrong? Did the Prime Minister anger you again?”

Zhao Qi asked seriously, “Mother, do you really trust Xiao Shiqing with all your heart?”

Empress Dowager Wen’s expression changed slightly, and she tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear. “Why are you asking this suddenly?”

“I… I just don’t like him,” Zhao Qi offered a reason that fit the dog emperor persona. “It’s because you’re too protective of him; he doesn’t see me as the Emperor at all.”

Empress Dowager Wen said, “Shiqing has grown up under my watch, and I know him well.”

“Does the Empress Dowager think he’s a good person?”

“No, he isn’t,” Empress Dowager Wen said meaningfully. “Precisely because he isn’t, I have to use him. Besides, who else can I use besides him?”

Zhao Qi was left speechless.

Empress Dowager Wen continued, “The Xiao family is a venerable clan in the capital, with a history even longer than that of the Da Jing. Duke Xiao commands two hundred thousand troops, and his wife is a close friend of mine. If I don’t make use of their son, what will they think? Qi’er, you must understand, our survival to this day is not thanks to the late emperor’s will, but rather—thanks to the Xiao family.”

“Mother…”

“Now that there’s no one else around, let me speak frankly. As long as the Xiao family remains on our side, your throne will be secure. Otherwise…” Empress Dowager Wen smiled bitterly, “Qi’er, from the moment you ascended to the throne, the choice has always been in the hands of the Xiao family.”

The Empress Dowager’s candid words deepened Zhao Qi’s worries. Fortunately, in the original story, Xiao Shiqing only betrayed after the Empress Dowager’s death, so she never saw her son’s tragic end.

“I understand,” Zhao Qi said. “Don’t worry, Mother. I won’t oppose the Prime Minister any longer.”

Empress Dowager Wen looked at Zhao Qi for a long while, her expression softening somewhat. “I only hope that, after I’m gone, someone will be there to protect you.”

Leaving the Ci’an Palace, Zhao Qi made up his mind not to let Prince Huai, Zhao Tong, succeed in poaching. He thought for a moment and instructed, “Lao Jiang, have the Imperial Kitchen prepare some good pastries.”

Jiang Dehai asked, “Your Majesty, you just finished dinner. Are you hungry again?”

“No, I’m going to feed the Prime Minister.”

Jiang Dehai was puzzled. “??? ”

“Also, bring the lampshade I took from the Qinzhen Hall last time.”

Inside the Qinzhen Hall, Xiao Shiqing was discussing official transfers with the Minister of Personnel when a eunuch announced outside, “The Emperor has arrived—”

The Minister of Personnel was taken aback. “Why is the Emperor here at the Qinzhen Hall?”

Xiao Shiqing casually threw the memorial aside and said, “Receive the Emperor.”

Zhao Qi entered the hall and said, “Prime Minister, I’m here to return the lamp…” Seeing another official standing beside Xiao Shiqing, Zhao Qi quickly changed his words, “I’m here to see if you’ve been working well.”

Xiao Shiqing smiled lightly and, along with the Minister of Personnel, saluted Zhao Qi.

“No need for formalities,” Zhao Qi said with a straight face. “Am I interrupting?”

“No, the Minister is about to leave.”

The Minister of Personnel hurriedly said, “I take my leave, Your Majesty.”

After the Minister left, Xiao Shiqing said, “Your Majesty, please feel free to look around.”

“Huh?” Zhao Qi was puzzled. “Look at what?”

“Didn’t you come to see if I’ve been working well?”

Zhao Qi was embarrassed. “I was just… saying that casually.”

“Oh?” Xiao Shiqing observed Zhao Qi, waiting for him to continue.

Under Xiao Shiqing’s scrutinizing gaze, Zhao Qi awkwardly admitted, “I came to return the lampshade.”

Xiao Shiqing glanced at the lampshade in Jiang Dehai’s hands. “Just put it down.”

“And,” Zhao Qi lowered his eyes, “I have some pastries here. If you’re hungry, you can have some.” Eat my pastries and be a good Prime Minister from now on. Don’t think about rebellion, okay?

Xiao Shiqing looked at him and slowly smiled. “The Emperor is becoming more and more different each day. One would think someone else was inside the Emperor.”

Zhao Qi’s hand hidden in his sleeve tightened slightly. “It’s because Mother scolded me that I…”

Xiao Shiqing understood. “So the Emperor was coerced.”

Zhao Qi scratched his head. “Mother said that she and your mother were good friends, so I should consider you as a brother.”

Xiao Shiqing, intrigued, asked, “And does the Emperor wish to?”

Zhao Qi said awkwardly, “For Mother’s sake, I’m willing to try.”

Xiao Shiqing nodded. “Speaking of which, I am five years older than the Emperor. If we were to address each other as brothers, what should the Emperor call me?”

Zhao Qi thought for a moment and tentatively said, “Elder… Brother?”

Chapter 19 – Transformation

Chapter 19: Transformation

Of course, Su Muluo couldn’t bear to leave the little black dragon hanging outside all night, so he brought it back inside after just a half minute.

The little black dragon lay listlessly in his palm, looking pitiful and innocent.

Su Muluo knew it was pretending and wasn’t moved. He said, “Next time you pluck my feather, I’ll pinch your tail.”

The little black dragon: “Aww!”

It really didn’t pluck the feather!

Su Muluo raised an eyebrow: “It couldn’t have fallen out on its own, right?”

The little black dragon glanced at him cautiously.

“Squeak.”

Indeed, it had.

Su Muluo: “…”

Impossible!

He had just lost feathers yesterday!

Su Muluo felt frustrated. Previously, he only lost feathers once every hundred years, and only one or two at a time. Now, he had lost feathers two days in a row, four in total!

Unhappy, he rubbed the little black dragon’s belly.

The little black dragon clung to his finger, whining softly.

You blame me and tied me up.

“Tied you up because you took advantage of me,” Su Muluo said confidently. “Who told you to do that.”

However, the feather issue was troubling, and there were two strange things.

Why was he so tired today?

Why did he revert to his original form while sleeping?

Su Muluo thought for a while but couldn’t figure it out, so he poked the little black dragon, saying, “It’s all your fault.”

The little black dragon had been sleepy recently, and its scales itched. Su Muluo had suspected they were somehow linked, and it seemed to be true.

The little black dragon looked at him with a slightly resentful gaze but accepted the blame.

Su Muluo carefully put away the fallen feather, feeling a bit distressed, and placed it in a small pouch. “If I lose a feather every day, I’ll end up bald.”

The little black dragon nuzzled him comfortingly and let out a soft whimper.

Can we transform back?

Su Muluo met the little black dragon’s gaze, asking, “You just want to take advantage of me again?”

The little black dragon immediately shook its head.

Su Muluo suspiciously stared at it for a few seconds, thinking if the dragon dared to misbehave, he would peck it.

Then he transformed back to his original form.

A beautiful phoenix landed on the bed, gracefully folding his snowy white feathers, staring at the little black dragon with ruby-like eyes.

The little black dragon circled the phoenix once before diving into his soft feathers.

Phoenix: “?”

At first, he thought the little black dragon just liked his feathers, but he soon realized the dragon was pointing out a specific spot. Lowering his head, he preened that area.

In the next moment, the phoenix was pleasantly surprised to find fine down feathers growing under his long, snowy feathers.

It turned out he wasn’t going bald but was entering a molting period!

But why was he still molting at eighteen hundred years old?

While pleased, the phoenix was also puzzled, but since he wasn’t truly losing feathers and wouldn’t go bald, he happily transformed back to human form, kissed the little black dragon, and held it in his hand.

The little black dragon: “…”

The little black dragon immediately clung to Su Muluo’s hand, letting out a soft whimper.

It wanted another kiss!

“No,” Su Muluo said with a smile. “Just one.”

For someone who had been terrified about losing feathers yesterday, nothing was more delightful than seeing the fallen feathers grow back. Thus, even the little black dragon, who had taken advantage of him earlier, seemed much cuter. Su Muluo gave its little head a rub.

The little black dragon whimpered, still hoping for a kiss from its phoenix. Seeing that the phoenix was unwilling, it curled up in a small ball, swishing its tail in disappointment.

Well, one kiss was fine.

After all, having one now meant there would definitely be more in the future.

Su Muluo pulled the soft blanket over both of them, covering the little black dragon as well, and said with a smile, “Sleep.”

The rest of the night passed peacefully. When Su Muluo woke up the next day, he inexplicably received a large sum of money and a call from Liu He.

“Mr. Su, did you receive the gratitude money?”

“What gratitude money?” Su Muluo was slightly surprised, seeing the substantial increase in his bank account. “Why are you sending me money?”

Liu He laughed, “Because you helped us solve the recent incident, this is our token of appreciation.”

Su Muluo replied, “I don’t need it; I didn’t really do much.”

“No, if it weren’t for you, we wouldn’t have caught the culprit so quickly, and I wouldn’t have made it out of the red umbrella safely,” Liu He insisted. “If it were someone from the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings , they would receive a certain amount of remuneration after each case. Even though you haven’t joined the Bureau, you’ve helped us a lot. So, it’s only right and proper for us to show our gratitude.”

She spoke earnestly and straightforwardly, fearing that Su Muluo might refuse. Before he could say anything, she loudly shouted, “Thank you!” and then hung up.

Su Muluo: “…”

It seemed the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings was determined to make him accept this money. Although they had previously agreed that he would assist them when needed, it was clear they didn’t want to owe him any favors before a real crisis arose.

That was fine too. Su Muluo looked at the transferred amount, realizing it was enough to cover at least half a year’s rent and expenses. He felt a bit emotional.

It seemed joining the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings was a quicker way to make money.

But on second thought, he still preferred running a café. It was relaxed and he could arrange his time as he pleased.

After all, he came to the human city to experience life. Making money was secondary. If it came down to it, he could easily sell a feather or two and never lack for money.

“Squeak.”

The little black dragon lazily sprawled on the pillow, yawning. Su Muluo scratched its chin, letting it curl around his wrist while he got up to wash up in the bathroom.

The café had been closed for the past couple of days. Today, there were several customers waiting, including one who wanted to add Su Muluo on WeChat. “Boss, I’ve come twice when you were closed. How about adding me on WeChat so you can notify me when you’re open?”

“I don’t have WeChat,” Su Muluo replied, even though he did have it. He declined to prevent the little black dragon from getting jealous. “I was busy the past few days. Barring any unforeseen events, the café will be open every day at ten.”

“Alright,” the customer didn’t push further and looked at the drink menu with anticipation. “I’ll have a special coffee, half sugar!”

Over time, Su Muluo’s café had gained some reputation. His special coffee tasted great, had a short treatment period (?), and worked quickly. It had already spread among some company colleagues, becoming a favorite among middle-aged office workers.

Business was good today, with seven or eight customers seated in the shop. Su Muluo busied himself serving coffee. After taking a seat, he pinched the little black dragon’s tiny horns, saying, “Grow up quickly and work for me.”

The little black dragon whimpered, suddenly feeling its scales itch again. It lay down in Su Muluo’s palm, asking for a scratch.

Su Muluo lightly scratched the little black dragon’s scales. Just then, another customer walked in. Su Muluo thought about putting the little black dragon in his pocket but, seeing how itchy it was, couldn’t bring himself to do it. He continued scratching it, letting the customer approach the counter.

The new customer was a young man in his early twenties, sporting a black earring and looking rather listless. His eyes lit up slightly upon seeing the little black dragon in Su Muluo’s hand. “How cute, what is that?”

The little black dragon had buried its head in Su Muluo’s palm, hiding its little horns and pretending to be a small snake.

While scratching the little black dragon, Su Muluo casually replied, “A toy loach.”

The little black dragon: “…”

“Isn’t it a toy snake?” The young man curiously leaned in, clearly very interested in the little black dragon. “Where can I buy one? I want one too.”

Su Muluo said, “I bought it years ago, can’t remember where.” He then smiled slightly and asked, “What would you like to drink?”

This was to change the subject. The young man, disappointed at not getting the answer he wanted, reverted to his previous listlessness and said, “Special coffee, please. I heard from friends that your special coffee is really good.”

He then took out some cash and handed it to Su Muluo.

Su Muluo accepted the cash. Nowadays, young people rarely used cash. But some non-human newcomers to the city without IDs had to use cash.

Su Muluo discreetly examined the young man, finding no trace of demonic aura, and said, “Please find a seat.”

The young man glanced at the little black dragon again, reluctantly left the counter, and chose a corner seat.

After the young man left, Su Muluo quietly pinched the little black dragon.

The little black dragon looked up at him, puzzled, “Aww?”

Su Muluo: “Look at you, causing trouble.”

The little black dragon: “???”

The little black dragon looked at its phoenix, utterly confused.

It was just an innocent little dragon!

And it had just been called a toy loach!

Su Muluo looked at the little black dragon’s bewildered reaction and smiled slightly. “Doesn’t matter, it’s your fault anyway.”

Despite his words, he continued scratching the little black dragon until it was no longer itchy, then made a special cup of coffee for the young man.

When the coffee was brought over, the young man looked at the exquisite cup before him without much expectation and took a sip.

The moment the coffee entered his mouth, his expression changed instantly.

It was delicious!

What kind of coffee was this? Why was it so good?!

The young man stared at the coffee in disbelief for a while, then carefully took another sip.

Still delicious!

“Boss!” he immediately said, “Can I have another cup?”

“Sorry,” Su Muluo replied, “You can only buy one cup per day.”

The young man was stunned and asked, “Even if I pay more?”

Su Muluo shook his head.

The young man, disappointed, touched the earring by his ear and dejectedly sat back down.

Su Muluo looked at the young man, feeling that something was off. He seemed different from ordinary people… but there was no demonic aura on him, so he wasn’t a demon.

However, as long as the other party didn’t cause trouble, Su Muluo wouldn’t interfere.

The day passed like this. At seven in the evening, Su Muluo closed the shop, opened a can of cat food for Qiansui, and returned to his rented apartment with the little black dragon.

In the afternoon, the little black dragon’s scales had been itchy for a long time, and it kept rubbing against Su Muluo’s hand. After Su Muluo finished scratching it, the little dragon got sleepy, curled up into a small ball, and fell asleep holding its own tail.

It slept from the afternoon until the evening. Su Muluo looked at the little black dragon in his hand, which he couldn’t wake up, and frowned.

What was going on?

At eight in the evening, Su Muluo finished his bath and gently placed the still-sleeping little black dragon on the pillow, lying down to watch it.

The little black dragon, already small, looked even smaller curled up asleep. Su Muluo gently stroked it. Perhaps sensing his presence in its sleep, the little black dragon let out a small hum, turned over, and softly hugged him.

A trace of a smile appeared in Su Muluo’s eyes, and his tense mood relaxed a bit. The little black dragon still responded to him in its dreams, which meant there should be nothing wrong.

After a while, Su Muluo seemed to catch the little black dragon’s sleepiness, and he started to feel drowsy, his eyes struggling to stay open.

Not wanting to fall asleep so soon, he watched over the little black dragon for a while longer. But as he grew sleepier, he eventually changed his position, cradled the little black dragon in his hand, and drifted off to sleep.

Because he was worried about the little black dragon, Su Muluo didn’t sleep well that night, dozing fitfully until the latter half of the night when an arm wrapped around his waist, gently holding him.

Half-asleep, Su Muluo felt himself nestled in a man’s arms, breathing in a familiar scent that made him feel very safe.

The autumn night was cold, but the man’s embrace was warm. Instinctively, Su Muluo burrowed into the embrace, like a cat seeking a cozy blanket.

But soon, he realized something was wrong.

Why was there someone in his bed?

Who was this person holding him?

Su Muluo woke up instantly and opened his eyes—

Chapter 177 – His Royal Highness of the Dragon Clan (Extra 2.1)

Chapter 177 – His Royal Highness of the Dragon Clan (Extra 2.1)

Jian Luo, the young prince, was a prominent figure at school. Whether on Earth or among the Dragon Clan, he seemed to carry a golden aura wherever he went. It’s worth noting that these young princes had excellent personalities. They were very polite and friendly towards others, although their temperaments varied greatly.

Lu Chengyin was the most sunny and friendly. He was extremely popular and everyone wanted to be close to this sunny boy. Even in school, wherever he went, a group of people followed him, and he even had a fan club.

Lu Chengyu, on the other hand, had a very cold personality, as cold as an iceberg. People who approached him felt frozen in place. Lu Chengqi was very clever, not as cold as his elder brother. In school, he also got along well with everyone, but perhaps because of his intelligence, there was always a certain distance perceived between him and others.

School

“I think Chengyin is in love.”

“Do you think so too?”

“Yeah, a few days ago he suddenly asked me how to make a man happy.”

A group of students gathered gossiping. Outside, there was some commotion and noise. They turned around and saw a boy walking towards them. He was tall, with handsome features resembling Lu Shifeng to a considerable extent, but while Marshal Lu was always noble and elegant, this young prince exuded a natural and masculine aura.

Today, he was holding something in his hands.

When the students saw him, they surrounded him: “What does Chengyin have?”

Lu Heizai held a small medicine box in his arms and said, “I’m delivering medicine to someone.”

‼️⁉️⁉️

The students exchanged glances, each seeing different emotions in each other’s eyes—some shocked, some resistant and unable to accept, and others burning with gossip curiosity. One person directly asked, “Who are you giving it to?”

This was quite rare. Who could have made Lu Chengyin act like this?

Lu Heizai said, “To Chengyu. He got injured during training yesterday, so I’m taking him some medicine.”

“……”

The gazes of the crowd gradually became somewhat lackluster.

“Did any of you see Chengyu today?” Lu Heizai put down his backpack. “He came to school on his own this morning. Did anyone see where he went?”

The class monitor said, “It seems he went to the training hall.”

A hint of what looked like annoyance flashed across Lu Heizai’s face. “Got it.”

He strode out, leaving the classmates to ponder the meaning of life. So Lu Chengyin wasn’t in love after all. Was that younger boy his brother?

Training Grounds

Early in the morning, when there weren’t many people around, a simulated battle machine opened, and someone sat up inside, wiping their face with a towel.

“Bang!”

The door was forcefully pushed open.

A figure strode in like a shooting star, accompanied by Heizai-style grumbling: “Lu Chengyu, are you still not seeing eye to eye with your brother? Why didn’t you wait for me this morning? Are you getting too big for your boots? Why didn’t you tell your brother you were hurt? Why did you come to training when you’re injured? Do you want me to tell Dad?!”

Lu Chengyu paused in his actions, lazily tossed the towel aside, and lifted his eyes to look at his somewhat silly older brother. “I didn’t want to waste time with someone who sleeps in every morning.”

Heizai was speechless. “Who sleeps in every morning?!”

Lu Chengyu chuckled softly.

“I heard you hurt your ankle.”

Lu Heizai sat down beside the simulated battle machine and naturally began to inspect the injury. His younger siblings didn’t have particularly robust health. Lu Chengyu seemed to inherit many traits from their father, with softer features initially, very delicate and beautiful. However, he could be cold, his demeanor transforming him into an icy beauty, terrifyingly cold yet still delicate and ruthless, with a body as fragile as Jian Luo’s.

Lu Chengyu was not very interested. “Are you kidding me? The Dragon Clan’s self-healing ability is strong. It’ll be fine by this afternoon.”

“This medicine is different!” Lu Heizai gestured to the medicine box. “Applying this will numb the pain. Waiting for self-healing would be quite painful.”

Lu Chengyu smirked ambiguously. “Who do you think is afraid of pain like you?”

Lu Heizai was annoyed and embarrassed. “Lu Chengyu, you better watch it. Don’t push me to beat you up.”

Lu Chengyu looked sternly at him, but his actions were unexpectedly gentle as he applied the medicine to himself. He wasn’t in pain, but he furrowed his brows slightly, making it seem like his leg was broken.

Just like Dad, always worrying unnecessarily.

Lu Chengyu scorned his irrational brother, but his expression softened considerably. Leaning lazily against the simulated battle pod, he drawled, “Sure.”

The two chatted for a while until a slender figure appeared at the door of the training room. She wore a long robe school uniform, her features lively and cute. Her white hair was tied up with a few strands falling gently around her temples, giving her a literary and quiet demeanor. She wore glasses with gold frames, not ordinary glasses—only two pairs existed in the world: one worn by the wealthy Nie Ban and the other on Lu Chengqi’s face.

“Couldn’t find you two anywhere.” Lu Chengqi pursed her lips, carrying a lunchbox. “You ran off so fast this morning. Dad asked me to bring breakfast for you.”

Lu Heizai was excited. “What did Dad make today?”

“Spicy soup.” Dragons loved spicy food. “And xiaolongbao, both meat and vegetarian. There were side dishes too, but Dad said seeing how hurried you two were, you probably weren’t hungry, so I didn’t pack them.”

“……” Lu Heizai teared up. He loved side dishes the most, sniffing sadly.

The two brothers divided the buns and ate them. Lu Chengqi inspected her elder brother’s wound and chatted and played for a while. From a very long time ago, they had been inseparable. They were willing to communicate and interact with others as their father had advised, but it all seemed like a formality. They still only had each other.

As the years passed, they gradually found their own paths, but their deep bond remained unchanged.

Lu Heizai munched on a bun and said, “My mentor is starting an internship recently, so I’ll be heading to the lab area for school these days. You two take care of yourselves.”

His younger siblings paused, then asked, “What internship?”

“Experimental. Not just me, but students from other schools too. I’m the president of the student council, so I have to organize activities.” Lu Heizai grabbed a bun from his brother to eat. “Will you come?”

The younger siblings exchanged a glance and nodded in unison. “No.”

……

No one took this union seriously. Except for one person who sensed something amiss: Lu Chengyu. He knew his silly brother well enough to notice any anomaly. Feeling something was off because his silly brother hadn’t been sleeping in.

Lu Chengyu squinted. “Is the union keeping you busy?”

“Hmm?” Lu Heizai had just finished washing up and hadn’t even properly fastened his tie. He shrugged nonchalantly. “Nope, it’s that a classmate of ours is facing some difficulties. It takes her a long time to get to our school every day, and she’s getting along well with us. I’ll take her along later; she’s really pitiful.”

Lu Chengyu stood up, calmly approached his brother, and gently fixed his tie with a few movements of his fresh fingers. He murmured softly, “The union?”

“Yeah.”

Lu Heizai smiled brightly, “Can you help out?”

Lu Chengyu’s eyes slightly darkened. Without saying much, he simply nodded, “Go ahead.”

Next, what I discovered was the clever little sister. Previously, around noon, the older brother would always go out of his way to drag her to the cafeteria for lunch. Afterwards, the second brother would start being picky about food, causing the older brother to explode in anger.

But today at noon, something happened. She received only one message: “Remember to go eat, I’m not going to the cafeteria today.”

Sender — Lu Chengyin

The clever little girl read the message repeatedly, squinted, and then went to find the second brother. She said in one sentence, “Is he in love?”

Lu Chengyu put down his book. “What do you think?”

The little sister choked up for a moment; she felt her brother seemed temporarily lacking in brain cells.

“Maybe I’m just overthinking it,” Lu Chengqi sighed. “He doesn’t seem to have that kind of mindset.”

“No, he doesn’t.”

Lu Chengyu raised an eyebrow, sat back in his chair with his legs crossed on the table, an extremely arrogant posture. His eyes were filled with coldness. “But that girl might.”

Under the blazing sun, two people sat beneath a wisteria tree.

The boy was handsome and sunny, while the girl beside him was petite and charming. The two of them sat there sharing a piece of bread, a scene that looked incredibly beautiful no matter how you looked at it.

The girl blushed slightly. “Thank you, Brother Chengyin. I’ve been having some financial difficulties and can’t afford cafeteria meals. I was worried about being looked down upon for bringing my own lunch, but you’ve been taking care of me and keeping me company.”

“It’s nothing,” Lu Heizai replied candidly. “Just let me take care of you guys. And don’t worry, bringing your own lunch is perfectly fine. Look, I bring my own too, and no one looks down on me.”

The girl lowered her eyes. “You’re good.”

Lu Heizai chuckled awkwardly. “Just okay.”

The girl pursed her lips and spontaneously handed him a piece of bread, creating intimacy. She had put a lot of effort into entering this prestigious school. If it weren’t for this social event, someone like her, from a lower class, would never have had the chance to meet aristocrats. She had already inquired that Lu Chengyin, the young master of the Dragon Clan, was kind-hearted and friendly, but also held a prestigious status, truly a golden turtle in every sense.

As long as she captured him, wouldn’t she then have wealth and prosperity?

She knew Lu Chengyin was kind, so she tried hard to appear gentle and pitiable, meticulously creating opportunities for private moments. If everything went according to plan, power and wealth would be within her grasp. The more she thought about it, the happier she felt, until she heard a voice not far away: “Brother.”

At the edge of the woods stood two people, exuding an air of respect, smiling warmly at them. The girl’s eyes met theirs, and for some reason, she felt a sense of being surrounded by a murderous aura, especially from the boy who glanced at her, pressing down with a powerful pressure that rendered her unable to move.

Lu Chengyu came over. “What are you doing?”

Lu Heizai hadn’t expected to see his younger brother. He stood up and switched to lecture mode. “Lu Chengyu, why aren’t you eating in the cafeteria? What are you doing here? And you’re even bringing your sister along, not eating. Do you know you’re still growing? I sent you a message and you didn’t listen. See, I caught you, didn’t I?”

Chapter 55 – Bathing in the spirit realm

Chapter 55

Before they could react, both of them were drawn into the illusion.

The scene before them rapidly shifted. The foggy surroundings gradually became clear, revealing two thatched huts at the foot of the mountain, swaying precariously in the wind and rain.

Upon seeing the familiar thatched huts, Haowei’s heart skipped a beat, as if a hand had gripped his throat, making it hard to breathe.

This was the place where he and Si Lan’s wisp of spirit once resided.

He glanced sideways and noticed that at some point, Si Lan had disappeared from his side.

In the void of the illusion, he was suspended alone, watching the scene of the pouring rain.

He slowly approached the huts, and the dark figure sitting on the threshold became clearer.

The little fool didn’t know how to tie his hair, so it was simply tied behind him with a piece of gray cloth. His eyes were red, as if he had just cried, and they were wet, staring unblinkingly at the heavy rain.

This illusion could make one see the deepest regrets in their heart.

For Haowei, the greatest regret was not returning to find the little fool back then.

Even though he could break free from the illusion and return to reality at any moment, he wanted to keep watching. He wanted to know what had happened to the little fool after he left and to see the final outcome of this regret.

The rain continued to pour, making the huts sway. The little fool, lost in thought, got up, put on a straw hat, and stumbled into the rain towards the mountain.

Haowei almost called out to him, but the moment he opened his mouth, he remembered that if he really did, he might get trapped in this illusion, so he held back and silently followed the little fool.

The rain, mixed with mud and rocks, flowed down the mountain path. The little fool, caught off guard, was knocked down by the mudslide. His knee was scr4p3d, and the strong wind blew off his hat, which was only held in place by the strap around his neck.

Grabbing onto the wild grass on the ground to steady himself, the little fool didn’t bother to put the hat back on. Seeing another wave of mudslide coming, he hugged a nearby tree, clinging to it tightly as tears and rain mixed on his face, making his aggrieved expression barely visible in the misty rain.

This made Haowei clench his fists involuntarily, closing his eyes in unspeakable pain.

Really foolish.

Why run into the mountains in such heavy rain?

After the mudslide passed, the little fool used the wild grass and thorns on the ground to steady himself and slowly crawled to the middle of the mountain, his face showing a joyful expression. He reached out to part the grass, revealing a dark cave entrance.

Seeing the cave, Haowei suddenly understood.

He had come to the cave looking for him, thinking he would take shelter here in the rain, unaware that he had long since left.

Haowei had told him many times that he was going to join the army, yet he still couldn’t remember.

Well, he was just a little fool, it wasn’t fair to expect too much from him.

The little fool didn’t find Haowei in the cave but met the Taixu Divine Lord instead. Haowei didn’t know what the Taixu Divine Lord had said to him, but the little fool didn’t leave the cave that night. He just hugged a wooden doll and curled up as if waiting for Haowei to return.

Haowei couldn’t bear to watch any longer. Turning his head away, the scene before him changed again.

It was still the thatched hut, but the little fool’s wisp of spirit seemed to be called away, about to vanish. He seemed to sense it, reaching out to grab the wooden doll with Haowei’s face carved on it. But his body suddenly convulsed in pain, his hand trembling as he tried to touch it, only for the wisp of spirit to turn into a brownish light and gradually disappear into the air.

The illusion shifted once more, now showing Lanlan’s home.

The man who should have been asleep woke up from the bed, his eyes dark like ink, resembling two black jades set in his pale face. Beads of sweat dotted his small nose, as if he had a nightmare. After sitting up, he stayed dazed for a long time.

Seeing Si Lan in this state, Haowei’s heart ached again. He wanted to reach out and touch this moment’s Si Lan, but he didn’t dare.

Everything before him was just a reflection of the past created by the illusion, designed to evoke inappropriate desires and make him sink into it.

When Si Lan woke up, Lanlan saw him and excitedly rushed to him, saying, “You’re awake?”

Si Lan nodded, his expression momentarily dazed, “I… was it you who saved me?”

“Yes, I’m your savior. You must… promise me one thing.”

“Alright.”

“I want you to marry me.”

Haowei saw Si Lan fall silent for a moment before slowly nodding, “Okay.”

The next moment was the wedding day. Si Lan was dressed in a red wedding robe, his hair tied up high with a jade crown, looking exquisitely handsome. Though he was a demonic cultivator, his aura was unmatched.

Haowei’s eyes stung at the sight. Clearly… it was he who had saved him and raised him for so long, yet upon waking, he was marrying another woman!

Moreover, he had married that woman three times, entangled for hundreds of years!

The more Haowei thought about it, the angrier he became, not noticing the flaw in the illusion. His eyes remained fixed on the scene where Si Lan, holding the bride’s hand, slowly walked towards the hall.

The officiant was chanting, “First bow to heaven and earth…”

“Second bow to the parents…”

“Husband and wife bow to each other…”

Haowei felt overwhelmed by the sea of red, so glaringly bright. As he reached out to cast a spell to destroy everything before him, his wrist was suddenly grasped. Turning around, he saw another Si Lan appear beside him.

Si Lan glanced at the scene in the illusion, frowned, and said to Haowei, “This is fake. Can’t you tell?”

Si Lan had also fallen into an illusion earlier, reliving the day he failed to save Luo Hui. However, he had easily seen through the illusion and escaped, finding Haowei only to see this scene now.

Haowei’s breath slightly restrained, he remained silent for a while before saying, “Fake?”

“Mhm, I didn’t marry Lanlan in the mortal realm.” The earlier illusion might have been real, but the latter part was fake, clearly meant to mess with Haowei’s mind.

“Then in the demon realm? You and her…” Haowei’s words stopped abruptly, his dark eyes staring at Si Lan.

Si Lan recalled that when Haowei was still a little white dragon, he had already explained this to him, but he didn’t expect him to still be fixated on it now.

He glanced at Haowei and vaguely saw a trace of black energy pass over Haowei’s forehead. Startled, he looked again carefully but saw nothing, thinking he might have imagined it.

He looked away and, while breaking the illusion, said, “Although Lanlan and I reached the marriage contract stage in the demon realm, something always went wrong right before the wedding night.” He felt wronged; he did nothing, yet ended up with three ex-wives.

Haowei remained noncommittal, his face still gloomy.

After Si Lan broke the illusion, the scene quickly returned to its original state. The dispersed demonic energy gathered again, filling most of the sky.

How strange, how did the Swastika formation break?

Haowei’s eyes sharpened, and he drew his long sword. At that moment, his heart was filled with a deep gloom. Encountering this lingering demonic energy gave him a chance to vent. His movements were swift, and his sword aura was like a stream of arrows, slicing the demonic energy into pieces. The pained screeches of the forming demon could be faintly heard.

Determined to be ruthless, even after dispersing the demonic energy, Haowei still wasn’t satisfied. He swung his sword again, slicing the tops off fifty-eight mountains. Thick smoke billowed instantly, and the terrified roars of the suppressed beasts echoed from the mountains below.

Si Lan looked at Haowei and seemed to see a trace of dark energy between his brows again. Just as he was about to speak, it disappeared.

Haowei sheathed his sword and placed the Demon Suppression Formation on the mountain peak. The beasts’ voices disappeared instantly.

Si Lan sensed something was wrong. Haowei’s emotions were very unstable; did the scene in the illusion affect him that much?

He had already explained that the wedding scene in the mortal realm was fake.

He initially planned to continue investigating Yuwuxia’s affairs but, seeing this situation, suggested they return to the demon realm to rest and let Haowei calm down a bit.

Haowei didn’t respond.

Along the way, Haowei remained silent, a nameless rage and resentment brewing within him. His mind kept replaying the scene of Si Lan and Lanlan’s wedding.

If it weren’t for him being the true dragon’s son, anyone who stole his luck and fate would face divine retribution. Si Lan and Lanlan would have long been together, sweetly in love.

The more he thought about it, the more uncomfortable he felt.

They landed on Zhuyun Peak, where clusters of golden and silver honeysuckle swayed with the mountain breeze, blooming profusely and filling the air with fragrance, seemingly mocking his irritation.

He suddenly remembered that Lanlan’s third life was as a honeysuckle demon, and Si Lan had planted the entire peak with honeysuckle for her.

Heh.

It had been hundreds of years, yet Si Lan hadn’t removed them.

He clenched his fingers, suppressing the rising anger in his heart.

Si Lan sneaked a glance at him. As they walked side by side, the setting sun cast their shadows on the ground, long and thin, their sleeves brushing against each other like they were holding hands.

Si Lan had no idea what Haowei was thinking, only sensing his low mood and unstable breath.

This jealousy was intense.

After some thought, he decided it was necessary to have a thorough talk with him.

Haowei had always minded his three ex-wives. Si Lan could understand; after all, Haowei, a virtuous and pure man, being with someone who had married three times was quite unfair.

He tentatively reached out, his little finger seemingly accidentally brushing Haowei’s hand. Seeing no reaction, he grew bolder and directly held Haowei’s hand.

Haowei’s steps paused, his facial muscles tensed, and the oppressive aura around him lessened slightly, but he still seemed unapproachable and difficult to deal with.

Si Lan steeled himself, treating Haowei as the little white dragon, coaxing him, “Don’t be mad. When Lanlan asked me to marry her, I agreed out of gratitude. At that time, my mind was full of thoughts of revenge, with no room for romantic feelings. Later, when I returned to the mortal realm after avenging myself, fifty years had passed, and Lanlan was already seventy years old when she married me.”

So, naturally, he didn’t develop romantic feelings for the first-life Lanlan.

“In her second and third lives, I only met Lanlan once before we made the marriage contract. To my shame, my mind was still preoccupied with revenge, with no interest in love, nor did I think of cultivating feelings with Lanlan. Thus, despite our entanglement over three lives, we only met five or six times in total.”

“In her fourth life, she married the husband she lost early in her first life. I was actually quite relieved. If she had married me, it wouldn’t have been a happy union for either of us, as I had no romantic feelings for her.”

Si Lan said a lot, but Haowei’s expression remained unchanged until the last sentence, when he finally turned to look at Si Lan, his gaze slightly shifting.

“No romantic feelings at all?”

“None.”

Haowei wasn’t bothered by Si Lan’s three marriages but was concerned that Si Lan might have loved Lanlan or still harbored feelings for her.

Otherwise, Si Lan wouldn’t have gone to see Lanlan before leaving the mortal realm last time.

Hearing Si Lan’s words now, the gloom in his heart dissipated.

But these honeysuckle flowers…

Haowei lowered his gaze, his lips pressed into a thin line.

Following his gaze, Si Lan saw the honeysuckle flowers and suddenly understood, “Ah, these honeysuckle flowers, I always forgot to remove them. What flowers do you like?”

Haowei didn’t speak for a long time. After a while, he said nonchalantly, “No need to bother, honeysuckle flowers are fine.”

“Oh,” Si Lan responded, glancing sideways to see that Haowei’s expression had softened. He secretly let out a sigh of relief.

Dealing with a true dragon’s temperament was really tough.

Like serving an emperor, he had to treat Haowei with utmost care.

He needed to find a way to turn the tables and make Haowei follow his lead for a change.

At that moment, Qu Ze and Xie Li were walking towards them from the mountain. Si Lan instinctively tried to pull his hand away from Haowei’s, but Haowei took the initiative, gripping Si Lan’s hand even tighter.

Si Lan couldn’t shake his hand free and felt too embarrassed to make a scene, so he forced a smile and ended up standing there, holding hands with Haowei, in front of Qu Ze and Xie Li.

Qu Ze glanced at their joined hands, his swollen face revealing no expression. “Lord, we and the two protectors have gathered enough jade fruits.”

Si Lan forced a stiff smile, replying awkwardly, “Oh, really? Then you and the protectors should personally deliver them to their families and apologize.”

“Yes,” Qu Ze replied, lowering his head and glancing at their interlocked hands again.

If he hadn’t seen it with his own eyes, he would never have believed that the overlord of the Demon Realm and the overlord of the Heavenly Realm would be walking hand-in-hand under the sunset. If he spread this news, no one would believe him, and it might even be considered the biggest lie of the year.

Xie Li, being more straightforward, stared at their intertwined hands with wide eyes, his small face a mix of curiosity and confusion.

Si Lan, too busy to care about what his little disciple was thinking, gave an awkward laugh and quickly pulled Haowei away.

After only a few steps, he heard Xie Li whispering to Qu Ze.

“Senior Brother, can holding hands like that make them have babies?”

“…”

Si Lan was speechless.

Haowei glanced at Si Lan, seeming even more pleased.

Qu Ze, half exasperated, half serious, replied, “No.”

“But in the stories, it says if you hold hands, then on the bed, yin and yang connect, and in eight or nine months, a child will be born. Just the other day, I heard them on the bed…”

Before Xie Li could finish, Qu Ze covered his mouth and dragged him away, as if fearing further disaster.

Si Lan suddenly realized that his habit of reading those romantic stories had influenced Xie Li, causing the young boy to “understand” so much at such a young age.

Talking about bed, yin and yang connecting—how embarrassing.

Even Si Lan, who had lived for over a thousand years, felt ashamed.

Secretly annoyed, Si Lan decided that Xie Li must be sent for nine hundred years of compulsory education at the Demon Hall.

Haowei, still holding Si Lan’s hand, noticed his flushed face and smiled even more.

An improper old demon lord had raised an improper little demon lord.

Once they returned to the main hall, Haowei finally let go of Si Lan’s hand. Si Lan felt an immense relief, though his fingers still tingled where Haowei had held them. It was strange—Haowei wasn’t a heater, so why did his touch feel so peculiar?

Lost in these thoughts, Si Lan noticed it was late and decided to take a bath in the hot spring at the back of the mountain. He liked to think while bathing and planned to consider how to continue investigating Yu Wuxia.

Out of courtesy, he asked Haowei if he wanted to join.

Previously, in the Eight Trigrams Formation of Extreme Sound, the proud little white dragon refused to bathe with him, so Si Lan assumed Haowei would decline this time as well. Unexpectedly, Haowei nodded in agreement.

Feeling uneasy, Si Lan kept on his underclothes and shrank into a corner of the spring.

Haowei, upon entering the clear pool, immediately transformed into his original form. The white dragon swam leisurely in the water, its scales shimmering under the moonlight. The pond was shallow but vast, larger than most lakes.

Watching Haowei swim so joyfully without even glancing his way, Si Lan felt it was unnecessary to be so reserved. He took off his underclothes, leaving only his inner pants, and soaked quietly in the pleasantly warm water.

The water, meticulously maintained by Si Lan for centuries, not only nourished the body but also enhanced beauty.

After circling the pond a few times, Haowei reverted to his human form, seemingly a bit self-conscious, showing only his upper body while covering his lower half with a coarse white cloth.

He sat beside Si Lan, resting his hands on the edge of the pool, eyes closed. Water droplets fell from his dark hair, tracing down his jawline, chest, and along his well-defined abdomen before merging into the spring water.

Si Lan stole a glance at him and quickly looked away.

The mist rising from the water created an ambiguous atmosphere between them.

Trying to ease the awkwardness, Si Lan said, “The moonlight is beautiful tonight.”

“Mm,” Haowei responded.

Though brief, since Si Lan had clarified his relationship with Lan Lan earlier, Haowei’s mood seemed much better.

The silence returned, and Si Lan sank a bit deeper into the water.

Suddenly, he felt something cool brushing against him underwater. Looking down, he saw a white dragon tail curling around his leg.

“…”

He couldn’t help but look up at Haowei again. Haowei still had his eyes closed, but two pink dragon horns had appeared on his forehead.

How odd, transforming into human form while still showing dragon horns and tail?

Oh, he suddenly remembered Haowei had mentioned that his dragon horns appeared when he was angry.

Realizing this, Si Lan couldn’t understand what had upset the little white dragon this time.

Just moments ago, he seemed to be happily swimming.

The dragon tail under the water became more intrusive, the tip curling around Si Lan’s foot. The cool, smooth scales against Si Lan’s skin sent a chill through him.

His mind flashed back to something he’d heard during their spiritual cultivation.

“There’s another one, hidden beneath the dragon scales.”

His gaze deepened as he looked at the dragon tail, his brows furrowing slightly. Only during their first spiritual connection had he felt two, but back then he was so dazed that his memory was unclear. He hadn’t encountered it since.

Haowei seemed to sense Si Lan’s gaze. His dragon tail suddenly wrapped around Si Lan’s waist and pulled him into his arms.

Startled, Si Lan instinctively put his arms around Haowei’s neck to steady himself.

Haowei opened his eyes, his dark pupils fixed on Si Lan. “Why are you staring at me?”

“Weren’t you the one getting close to me first?” Si Lan noticed Haowei’s dragon horns were even pinker, resembling two delicate coral branches on his smooth forehead. It was oddly amusing.

Was Haowei really angry?

He didn’t look angry at all.

Haowei said, “The tail just accidentally touched you.”

“…”

This guy had some nerve. Clearly, he had been teasing Si Lan with his tail for a while, yet he claimed it was accidental.

In a muffled voice, Si Lan retorted, “Really? If your tail is so uncontrollable, you might as well not have it.”

Saying this, he deliberately pinched one of Haowei’s dragon scales. Haowei’s body stiffened, and his tail doubled in size. The tail fin rose above the water’s surface, with the tip curling gently around Si Lan’s nape.

“I’m not lying to you.”

Like his dragon horns, Haowei’s tail became uncontrollable when he was aroused. The dragon horns would emerge from his forehead, and the tail would automatically seek out the person he adored.

The more intense his feelings, the more serious the problem became.

Ancient texts stated that dragons were inherently lascivious, which was not a false claim.

However, a true dragon would only lose control of their emotions with the one they loved. Haowei originally thought that soaking in the hot spring would not make him lose his composure, but he underestimated how intoxicating Si Lan’s scent was.

That sweet fragrance, mixed with the steam, entered his nostrils and seemed to merge with his very being, gradually eroding his self-control. After transforming into human form, he had kept his eyes closed, trying to avoid looking at Si Lan, which was a futile attempt to deceive himself. But he still lost his composure due to the allure.

Si Lan found Haowei’s thick skin quite amusing. When he was a little white dragon, he used to blush easily, but now that he was grown, he had become much bolder.

“You haven’t explained why you were staring at my dragon tail earlier.”

“Just a bit curious, that’s all.”

“Curious about what?” Haowei asked.

“…”

Si Lan didn’t know how to respond and didn’t notice Haowei’s dragon tail standing behind him, its scales gleaming with a silvery light, ready to move.
