Chapter 90 – Restored memories

Chapter 90 (Extra 13)

In the hot spring pool, a man with jade-like golden skin leaned against the edge, his thick, long lashes closed. Wisps of mist curled around his curly tail submerged in the faint rising steam, enveloping him.

The man’s face was pale, his eyes unusually dark, sitting motionless in the hot spring pool.

Suddenly, footsteps approached from behind.

The steps were somewhat heavy, suppressing their breath.

Jiuying observed the scene by the hot spring pool, where damp vapors floated, the figure within the mist vaguely visible. His fair and slender back was smooth as jade, silver long hair lazily dr4p3d over his shoulders and neck. A red glass bead earring on his left ear swayed with the rise and fall of his chest.

“Bian Rang, are you feeling better now?” Jiuying didn’t hear any bathing sounds from the hot spring pool, after a moment’s thought he approached and asked gently.

He didn’t dare to come closer, standing a yard away from the hot spring, softly speaking, afraid of startling the person inside.

Bian Rang turned his head at the sound, lifted his eyelashes, and looked at Jiuying.

After meeting Bian Rang’s pitch-black gaze from the north river, Jiuying’s heart skipped a beat, his throat tightening with every breath. He parted his lips and murmured Bian Rang’s name, “Bian Rang.”

Bian Rang suddenly stood up from the water, water droplets cascading along his chest, swirling mist seemed to rush towards them, startling Jiuying who turned away, unable to look at him.

“You… dry yourself quickly, don’t catch a cold,” Jiuying’s voice trembled softly.

Since awakening in Northern Plains, Bian Rang had lost all memories and much of his cultivation.

After Jiuying brought him out of Northern Plains, they settled in Sanxu Mountain.

This was where Jiuying had wanted to settle a hundred thousand years ago, and now he finally had the opportunity to bring Bian Rang here.

The footsteps behind them grew closer, and Jiuying’s heartbeat grew more erratic. Just as he was about to speak, a pair of immaculate arms as pure as snow suddenly wrapped around his chest from behind.

Bian Rang lowered his head, resting it on Jiuying’s back.

His breathing slowed, tension causing his arms to tremble slightly as he reached up to grasp Bian Rang’s hand.

“What’s wrong?”

Bian Rang didn’t speak. The moment he saw this person in Northern Plains, tears fell from his eyes, overwhelmed with intense sorrow.

They seemed to have known each other for a very long time, but Bian Rang had no memory of him.

Seeing Bian Rang silent, Jiuying turned around, fearing he might catch cold, and picked up the clothes nearby to help Bian Rang put them on.

Bian Rang remained silent throughout, his eyes fixed on him, causing Jiuying’s face to flush slightly.

As he held Bian Rang’s hand, it felt abnormally cold, perhaps a remnant of his revival in Northern Plains. When they rested at night, Jiuying would use his legs to warm Bian Rang’s feet and keep his hand against his chest.

“Are you still cold?”

Bian Rang shook his head.

Jiuying reached out to touch Bian Rang’s head, but his arm suddenly froze. After a moment of hesitation, he summoned his courage and gently traced his fingertips down Bian Rang’s face.

Even though Bian Rang was no longer the tyrant of a hundred thousand years ago, a faint apprehension still lingered in Jiuying’s heart. He tentatively touched Bian Rang’s cheek, finding no resistance, which emboldened him to continue caressing this face deeply etched in his mind.

Closing his eyes, he felt the contours of Bian Rang’s face with his fingers: the not-too-thin eyebrows, the straight bridge of his nose, the delicate tip, and the thin lips.

When his fingertips touched the corner of Bian Rang’s mouth, Bian Rang suddenly opened his mouth, gently taking his finger into his mouth. Startled, Jiuying opened his eyes.

The dim light of the candle cast a romantic haze over the two figures, creating an intimate atmosphere.

Jiuying’s voice was hoarse, “Bian Rang.”

Bian Rang still held his index finger in his mouth, his lips slightly parted, asking in a clear voice, “Have we met before?”

“Mm.”

“How did we meet?”

Jiuying hesitated, speechless for a moment, the surroundings suddenly quiet as a pin drop.

Seeing Jiuying’s silence, Bian Rang lowered his head, gently biting down on Jiuying’s finger. A muffled groan escaped Jiuying’s chest as he tried to pull his finger away, but the warm sensation of Bian Rang’s lips made him reluctant to let go.

In the next moment, Bian Rang suddenly bit down hard, breaking his finger. He instinctively tried to pull his finger out, but fearing he might hurt Bian Rang’s teeth, he endured the pain, letting Bian Rang’s teeth sink into his flesh until they reached the bone.

Jiuying gritted his lips in pain, his gaze fixed on Bianrang.

After Bianrang finished biting, he released his mouth, a trace of blood staining his lips, an inexplicable allure that complemented the crimson jade pendant hanging from his left ear.

“I feel pain when I see you,” Bianrang slowly reached out to his chest, pulling open his white inner robe.

Jiuying lowered his head and only when he drew near did he notice the sword scar on Bianrang’s chest.

It was the scar he had inflicted with his own hands.

Color drained from Jiuying’s face inch by inch as he looked at the ferocious scar, his arm trembling as he hesitated to touch it, his fingers freezing in mid-air.

The scar left by the will of the heavens, eternal and indelible.

In this lifetime, it had reappeared alongside Bianrang.

“Does it hurt?” Jiuying’s lips trembled slightly as his voice seemed to come from his chest.

After so many years, this was all he could say.

After saying it, Jiuying felt like slapping himself.

How could it not hurt?

At that time, Bianrang had conceived a child in his spiritual platform, pierced by Jiuying’s sword. It should have hurt, deeply.

Bianrang looked at Jiuying’s suspended hand, his eyelids drooping. “I feel nothing.” Seeing that scar, he inexplicably felt it connected to the person before him.

Jiuying’s hand finally gently landed on the scar, as if burned, his fingers trembling slightly. The scar under his fingertip was clear and deep. He choked up, “I’m sorry.”

This apology was too late.

“Why?” Bianrang asked emotionlessly.

Jiuying didn’t want Bianrang to recall past pain. He simply said, “The scar on your heart was caused by me, Bianrang. I was wrong.”

Bianrang remained silent, silently watching Jiuying.

Seeing this person made him uneasy, besides unease, there was also deep nostalgia. In the last life, he must have loved and suffered deeply for this person.

He straightened his clothes, turned away from Jiuying. Jiuying looked at the back of his neck, his lips moved as if wanting to say something, but he just reached out and hugged his waist.

“Bianrang, you should blame me, hate me. I will try hard to earn your forgiveness.” Jiuying buried his head in Bianrang’s neck.

Bianrang felt the tears of the other person, falling and soaking the collar behind him. He sighed softly like a mosquito, grasping the hand resting on his waist, murmuring, “I don’t remember anything.”

When Jiuying told Bianrang they had a child together, Bianrang’s face froze. His gaze gradually lowered to Jiuying’s abdomen.

Though he didn’t speak, his eyes showed immense surprise, as if asking Jiuying, how could a man like you bear a child?!

Jiuying hesitated, explaining, “That… child is actually yours.”

After speaking, Jiuying saw Bianrang standing motionless, as if petrified, his expression of astonishment frozen on his face.

In silence for a moment, he slowly lowered his head, his gaze falling on Jiuying’s belly.

As if questioning himself, how could a man like me bear a child?!

How could I bear a child?!

He had thought they were at most lovers, but he had never imagined there would be a child between them!

He supported his forehead with his hand, eyes slightly drooping, suppressing the shock in his heart, and asked helplessly, “Where is the child now?”

“He is in the Demon Realm, growing up with the Demon Lord.”

“Demon Lord?”

“Yeah.”

As Jiuying took Bianrang to the Demon Realm, he recounted one by one the events of Fan Yu, Jun Li, and Xie Li nurturing Xie Li.

Bianrang remained silent throughout, tightly pressing his thin lips, his mouth almost forming a straight line.

Jiuying could tell this news startled Bianrang a bit. After speaking, he obediently stayed by his side, not moving.

Bian Rang couldn’t help but place his hand on his abdomen, and the Jiuying’s voice quietly sounded behind him, “That child was conceived by you through the Ling Platform.”

Bian Rang then placed his hand over his heart, feeling through the fabric the rugged scar. Suddenly, his heart twisted painfully, and he hunched over, clutching his back.

The Jiuying hurriedly approached and supported him. “What’s wrong?”

He saw sweat bead on Bian Rang’s forehead, his brows tightly furrowed as if in extreme agony, his own heart tightening in response.

Bian Rang shook his head. In that moment just now, many images flashed through his mind—memories from the Middle Wasteland years ago, scenes of him and Jun Li, scenes of him and Jiuying, and finally, the scene where he touched his abdomen in the boundless black night of the Ninth Heaven.

His figure was surrounded by the overwhelming loneliness of the world behind him. He seemed out of place with this world, as if nowhere belonged to him to warm him.

As Jiuying passed through the mountains and forests, he paused and picked a handful of candies, slightly embarrassed as he explained, “The child likes sweets. Every time we meet, he insists I bring candies for him.”

Bian Rang lowered his eyes slightly. “Candies… How old is he now?”

“Now over seventy years old, transformed into a human form resembling an eight or nine-year-old in the mortal realm.”

“Eight or nine years old…” Bian Rang murmured.

If he had successfully conceived the child back then, the child would be over a hundred thousand years old by now.

Jiuying also thought of this point, his face darkening as he lowered his head in silence.

Soon, the two arrived at the Chasing Cloud Peak in the Demon Realm.

Since Demon Sovereign Sir Lan married into the Heavenly Realm, Chasing Cloud Peak had become even colder. There were no servants on the mountain, only Sir Lan’s two disciples, Quze and Xie Li, living there.

Following their aura, they found Xie Li halfway up the mountain.

At this moment, Quze was carrying Xie Li on his back. Xie Li lay on Quze’s back, munching on snacks and muttering something. Quze had a tense expression, showing little emotion except for occasionally responding to Xie Li.

Seeing Bian Rang and Jiuying appear, Quze showed no surprise. He gently set Xie Li down from his back and tactfully left them to reunite as a family.

Xie Li had only eaten half of the fruit in his mouth, his cheeks bulging as he stared blankly at the people before him.

Bian Rang took a step forward, and Xie Li’s gaze focused on Bian Rang’s face, his mouth slightly agape.

Bian Rang’s heart pounded like a drum, his pale face flushed with a touch of red, step by step, slowly approaching Xie Li.

Xie Li smacked his lips, momentarily stunned, then resumed chewing on the remaining fruit in his mouth.

The way this big brother looked at him was so strange.

It was a mixture of surprise and kindness, kindness tinged with maternal affection…

Whether due to blood relations or not, Bian Rang felt an inexplicable fondness the moment he saw Xie Li, wanting to touch him.

He reached out and gently touched Xie Li’s brow.

In an instant, scenes from their previous life flooded his mind.

Jiuying thrusting the long sword into his heart, intense vibrations resonating from his heart. The nascent spirit embryo, still undeveloped, suffered trauma, as if emitting painful cries.

It was about to dissipate.

With all his cultivation, he barely protected the spirit embryo, transforming it into a blood jade and digging it out from his heart, handing it to Jiuying.

But Jiuying said, “What are you pretending to be sentimental for now? I don’t want your broken bead!”

In front of him, Jiuying crushed the spirit embryo.

Chapter 89 – When I return

Chapter 89 (Extra 12)

When the last drop of snow in the Northern Plains melted, everything fell silent. The mountains of the Northern Plains were as flawless as its snow, pure and immaculate. The undulating hills and mountains formed a continuous line, bathed in the lingering glow that gradually descended along the ridges.

The Northern Plains knew no nights; even after the glow faded, all was still white.

Arriving here, Si Lan and Haowei beheld the pristine face of the Northern Plains after the snow had melted, unable to help but exclaim in astonishment.

It was like a white canvas here, painting white clouds, white mountains, and a white sea, exuding a bizarre and magnificent beauty, dreamlike and ethereal.

Initially, they speculated that Bian Rang, upon being reborn, would enter the cycle of reincarnation and be born again. Yet Bian Rang did not follow the cycle of reincarnation; instead, he gathered his breath in the Northern Plains.

Following Bian Rang’s aura, they arrived at a cave in the Northern Plains, where countless starlights flickered within.

These starlights gathered from the ends of the earth surrounded a massive block of ice.

Si Lan stepped forward to examine the block of ice. Within it, faint and strange starlights emitted, converging to form a human figure.

He suddenly understood why Bian Rang chose to revive in the Northern Plains.

Silver hair, jade-like face, clad in white purer than snow.

Only such a pristine place was suitable for Bian Rang.

Si Lan looked at the figure in the ice and murmured, “After Bian Rang’s revival, I wonder what he will be like.”

Yu Wuxia had also revived. Si Lan had seen him twice: once when Yu Wuxia chased after a tiger and another when the roles were reversed.

The second time they met, something happened; the tiger growled menacingly, chasing after Yu Wuxia.

Yu Wuxia ran, shouting, “Master, disciple will never use the wrong medicinal oil again! I will immediately uproot all the peppermint in the mountains!”

“…,” Si Lan.

He wondered how the peppermint had provoked Jiaheng.

At that moment, upon hearing the words “peppermint,” Jiaheng’s anger surged. He leaped forward, biting onto Yu Wuxia’s clothes and tackling him to the ground.

Si Lan had originally intended to greet this master and disciple pair, but witnessing the bizarre scene, with Yu Wuxia’s clothes torn and discarded, and the tiger transformed into a human…

Si Lan quietly walked away.

He wondered if after Bian Rang’s resurrection, he would end up like Yu Wuxia, able to achieve enlightenment with his beloved.

Haowei glanced at Si Lan and said, “Although Bian Rang has revived this time without entering the cycle, his reformed soul will lose its previous memories.”

For Bian Rang, perhaps losing those memories was for the best.

Si Lan murmured in agreement, reaching out his hand. He intended to touch the ice, but countless starlights fell on his fingers, causing him to pause and murmur, “Jiuying will soon sense Bian Rang’s resurrection…”

Due to the dissolution of the Pentagram Nine Skies Formation, the souls of Dayong, Kui, and Xue Rong, who were previously trapped within the formation, returned to reincarnation. However, Jiuying chose not to reincarnate; he became a ghost, staying in the underworld, guarding his memories and waiting for Bian Rang’s return.

“Let’s go back.”

After a moment of silence, Haowei spoke.

Seeing Si Lan lost in thought, he couldn’t help but embrace Si Lan’s shoulder and say, “Don’t worry about them. If their fate is not over, they will meet again. If it is over, we can’t force it.”

Si Lan sighed, “It was my idea to help Yu Wuxia, and now he has successfully chased after Immortal Jiaheng. If Jiuying could also seek my advice, I’m sure bringing Bian Rang back would be much easier.”

Haowei twitched his lips slightly. Was it really because of his suggestion?

Why did he feel like his random idea had unexpectedly hit the mark?

Though he thought so, Haowei didn’t dare say it. Instead, he indulgently said, “Yeah, if you have the chance to see Jiuying, give him some advice.”

Si Lan nodded with a smile, turning away with Haowei. As they left, he said, “Let me tell you, chasing after Bian Rang is different from chasing after Jiaheng.”

“Oh?” Haowei expressed curiosity and confusion very tactfully, looking forward to an explanation.

“Jiaheng doesn’t like to talk. If you try to talk to him nicely, he’ll just ignore you. So the methods must be ruthless and shameless, forcing him to speak.”

“…,” Haowei.

No wonder he could come up with the move of kissing him without even acknowledging him.

“Bian Rang is different. Bian Rang is born as the son of heaven’s will, powerful and noble, thinking himself unmatched. Using shady means against such a person won’t work; instead, he might just slap you and turn you into cannon fodder.

So, to capture Bian Rang’s heart, one needs to understand that what he lacks is tender care and love. He has never experienced the life of ordinary people. Inside, he looks down upon and yet envies their lives. Therefore, if he feels the abundant care and love in life, it will definitely move his heart.”

Haowei originally thought Si Lan was joking, but upon hearing this, he couldn’t help but look at Si Lan seriously.

Si Lan indeed understood their personalities well and knew how to remedy their weaknesses.

Haowei couldn’t help but ask, “And what about capturing me?”

“You…” Si Lan’s ears turned oddly red.

Seeing this, Haowei became even more curious. “What about me?”

“Just give you two wild fruits,” Si Lan muttered under his breath.

“…” Haowei.

So, he’s only worth two wild fruits!

Thinking back, when they first met, he was indeed moved by Si Lan’s two wild fruits!

Haowei couldn’t help but grit his teeth. This “disdain” tonight needed to be dealt with properly.

As Si Lan left the Northern Plains, he glanced sideways at the mountain below, where a dark figure emerged from the intersecting mountain ranges.

Si Lan smiled faintly, thinking to himself, “I’ve already laid out the moves; now let’s see what Jiuying will do next.”

Upon hearing the disturbance in the Northern Plains, Jiuying rushed over without delay. Just as he descended to the foot of the mountain, he overheard Si Lan and Haowei talking.

At this moment, his eyes seemed distant, still lost in Si Lan’s words.

Cannot use underhanded means.

Must use thoughtful care and love.

He followed the faint starlight into the cave, surrounded by conical ice blocks emitting a chilly mist, shrouding the cave like smoke.

He followed the starlight until he reached the inner part of the cave and saw a massive ice pillar standing amidst the glacier.

The starlight was bound to the pillar, slowly merging into it and transforming into twinkling fireflies.

Seeing the humanoid form within the ice pillar, countless memories flooded his mind in an instant.

The first time he met Bian Rang, Bian Rang lifted his chin and said he was the most beautiful person in the clan, taking him away.

Used as a servant, placed in the Ninth Heaven, accompanying Bian Rang to watch demonic beasts fight in the arena, he played stone chess to amuse Bian Rang and to keep him from the arena.

To uncover Bian Rang’s weakness, he tricked Bian Rang into drinking.

To kill Bian Rang, he pretended to be captured.

Many past events, though over a hundred thousand years have passed.

But they are deeply engraved in his heart, replayed countless times in his mind.

“Bian Rang…”

Jiuying slowly approached the ice pillar, pressed his face against it, tears slowly falling from the corners of his eyes. Regret, longing, pain—all these emotions tangled together. He wanted to say a thousand things, ten thousand things, but they condensed into just one sentence.

“I miss you so much.”

He really missed him. Sealed within the deep and boundless Bagua Formation, he could only endure by thinking of him.

Jiuying didn’t know when Bian Rang would awaken, so he kept vigil outside the Northern Plains, the sight of the sunrise each day being his happiest moment.

Because there is sunlight, it won’t snow.

Sometimes he would daydream outside the cave, sometimes he would talk to the person inside the ice pillar. He told Bian Rang that they had a child, and he had recently visited the demon realm to see the child.

The child looked a lot like Bian Rang, but his temperament was unknown, bold and unafraid even when facing such a fierce ghost.

Instead, the child approached him and made a deal—if he wanted to see him, he had to bring him a piece of candy each time.

Jiuying looked at the cavity in the child’s tooth that showed when he spoke and couldn’t help but fall silent.

“That child is very clever. He knows I want to see him, but I haven’t acknowledged him yet. I’m afraid that acknowledging him will burden him, letting him know… his father killed his mother…”

Jiuying said this, laughing at himself, so it could be considered redemption, not letting himself and the child reunite, otherwise Bian Rang would be left alone.

He would wait for Bian Rang to return before acknowledging the child.

“Actually, I also feel unworthy to be his father. If it weren’t for you dispersing your cultivation to save him, he probably would have…”

Jiuying choked up, his fingers slowly tracing Bian Rang’s face on the ice pillar.

If it weren’t for Bian Rang, the child would have been lost long ago.

If he hadn’t been so willful back then, pretending to crush the spiritual fetus in front of Bian Rang, Bian Rang wouldn’t have been so furious that his soul shattered. He had regretted it to the point of wanting to kill himself, but in order to see Bian Rang again, he lived as if life were worse than death.

More and more starlight gathered inside the ice pillar, and now Bian Rang’s features were clearly visible, exactly like the person in his memory.

His fingers moved inch by inch, not even feeling the pain despite his fingers turning frostbitten.

“Bian Rang, come back.”

He had really waited too long, waited for a hundred thousand years.

He hugged the ice pillar, pressing his cheek tightly against it, tears falling down onto the ice.

He fell asleep and didn’t see the starlight inside the ice pillar gradually dimming.

The man with silver hair and a jade-like face slowly opened his black eyelashes.

In an instant, the ice pillar cracked inch by inch, pieces of ice fell off and hit the ground, making a sound.

Jiuying woke up suddenly, turned around to look at the ice pillar, and met a pair of ink-black eyes. Jiuying was stunned, staring blankly at the person, momentarily forgetting how to react.

It wasn’t until the falling ice hit him that he seemed to realize something, stepping back several times in succession. The ice pillar in front of him collapsed with a crash, stirring up waves of white cold air.

After the cold air dissipated, the face that he remembered so deeply and could never forget was gradually revealed.

He staggered forward, stepping on the broken ice, his gaze fixed on the person in front of him without blinking.

The pale face, deep eyes and brows, thin red lips, and the distinctive vermilion glass pendant worn on the left ear.

“Bian Rang…”

Chapter 88 – The master and apprentice are in love

Chapter 88 (Extra 11)

Yu Wuxia looked at Jiaheng, who stood by the lake, his thin clothes fluttering in the wind. The collar of his robe was slightly open, revealing half of his collarbone.

Yu Wuxia’s gaze slowly moved upwards and landed on Jiaheng’s face. He replied word by word, “I understand now, Master. Bound by my own obsessions, all paths lead to dead ends.”

A smile of approval appeared at the corner of Jiaheng’s lips.

Previously, Yu Wuxia had been trapped by his own obsessions, which had driven him to madness until he reached a dead end.

Only by transcending these obsessions could one escape the endless cycle within their heart.

Jiaheng clasped his hands in front of his chest, the “Amitabha” in his mouth swallowed back down, and he reluctantly lowered his hands. Years of habit had already seeped into his bones.

“Let’s go back.”

“Okay.”

Yu Wuxia followed behind Jiaheng. The two walked along the rugged mountain path and saw a patch of wild fruits.

Jiaheng, feeling a bit hungry, picked some wild fruits and took them to the stream to wash. Yu Wuxia also helped wash the fruits.

The rippling water reflected the figures of the master and disciple, as if the quiet time was silently flowing between them.

Yu Wuxia greedily enjoyed this moment of companionship, but when he thought about the many times he would spend like this with his master in the future, the corners of his mouth couldn’t help but curve up.

He handed a washed wild fruit to Jiaheng. “Master, eat this one, it’s ripe.”

Jiaheng took the wild fruit. “Aren’t you eating?”

“I don’t need to.”

Jiaheng said nothing more and bit into the sweet and sour wild fruit, turning his head to look at the distant towering mountains. The wind between the mountains carried a scent of earth and an inexplicable muskiness.

When it brushed past his face, it left a warm, hot touch.

After finishing the wild fruit, Jiaheng realized something was wrong. The warm, hot feeling on his face wasn’t caused by the warm wind, but was radiating from within.

He looked down at his arm and noticed that the exposed skin had turned red. A strange emotion churned in his chest. His breathing became rapid, his eyes moist as he glanced at the wild fruits beside him.

Yu Wuxia followed his gaze to the wild fruits. “Master, what’s wrong?”

Jiaheng didn’t speak.

Sensing something off about Jiaheng, his breathing intermittent, Yu Wuxia couldn’t help but walk over to him. He reached out to touch Jiaheng, but was pushed away. In that brief contact, he felt the scorching heat of Jiaheng’s fingers.

Yu Wuxia froze for a moment, then looked back at the wild fruits.

These wild fruits… could there be a problem?

Were they hot fruits?

There were rumors of a type of fruit with bright and beautiful colors, which caused birds to display courtship behaviors and beasts to roar with desire.

“Master.”

Jiaheng felt like the whole world was filled with Yu Wuxia’s voice, the word “Master” echoing in his mind. In a daze, he saw Yu Wuxia reaching out to him, and his body seemed to be collapsing.

There was a brief moment of blankness, and when he regained consciousness, he found himself nestled in Yu Wuxia’s arms.

Yu Wuxia had carried him to a beast’s den, surrounded by wild grass that blocked out the sun. Weak light filtered through the long leaves of the wild grass.

Jiaheng opened his eyes, trying hard to see clearly, but his view was obstructed by Yu Wuxia’s enlarged face.

“Master, don’t hold me so tight.”

Jiaheng looked down in confusion, realizing that his body was out of control, his limbs tightly clinging to Yu Wuxia.

The places where their skin touched slightly alleviated the unbearable heat.

“Water…”

He needed to soak in water.

Soaking in water would help.

Yu Wuxia either didn’t understand his words or deliberately misinterpreted them. His fingers lightly traced Jiaheng’s red lips, his voice hoarse. “Master, here comes the water.”

Probably due to the toxins from the wild fruits, Jiaheng’s thoughts were intermittently blank. When he regained consciousness again, he found himself entangled with Yu Wuxia… The scene and the situation overwhelmed him, causing him to lose consciousness once more.

He didn’t know how much time had passed before he opened his eyes again.

His head felt like it was being torn apart, the intense pain causing his vision to go dark, making it almost impossible to see clearly.

His body also ached, especially the area below his tailbone and his chest.

Realizing this, Jiaheng suddenly became aware of something. The blood drained from his face, his dry lips moved as if to speak, but in the end, they only formed a cold, indifferent curve.

He heard Yu Wuxia’s contented and leisurely voice beside him.

“Master, sleep a little longer. It’s not dawn yet.”

Jiaheng remained silent, his breath chilling to the extreme. Unable to restrain himself, he sat up, intending to reprimand this disrespectful disciple below him. In the process, he accidentally touched a sensitive area on himself, causing his body to flinch in pain.

Yu Wuxia hurriedly got up and embraced him, saying, “Master, don’t move.”

It was only when Jiaheng tried to speak that he realized his throat was hoarse. “Have you… grown tired of living?”

Yu Wuxia suppressed a smile. Even when his master was angry, throwing a tantrum like this was also quite adorable. He gently rubbed the side of Jiaheng’s face and said softly, “Master, you were the one who kept clinging to your disciple. The disciple… couldn’t push you away.”

“…” Jiaheng.

He didn’t believe a word of it.

Though his consciousness was fuzzy, he faintly remembered the events. Clearly, this scoundrel took advantage of the situation to…

The more he thought about it, the more unstable his breath became. His face turned crimson with embarrassment. Seeing this, Yu Wuxia quickly helped him relax, afraid of making him even more upset.

“Master, if you think your disciple did wrong, punish him. But please don’t upset yourself,” Yu Wuxia said earnestly.

Seeing his sincere words, Jiaheng’s anger subsided slightly. However, he still avoided Yu Wuxia’s touch and turned away from him.

His entire body ached, making walking difficult. His already thin white robe seemed to have disappeared somewhere.

Feeling awkward, he turned around, facing away from Yu Wuxia.

Yu Wuxia coughed softly and moved closer to Jiaheng. His voice sounded near Jiaheng’s ear, “Master, your disciple has already moved beyond attachment. I wonder when you will be able to do the same.”

Jiaheng paused at his words, silent.

Seeing his reaction, Yu Wuxia rested his hands behind his head, half-closing his eyes. Through the slender gaps in the grass leaves, he looked towards the dawning sky.

“Bound by attachment, everything I encounter becomes a realm. Master, your heart has also built a circle of realm, keeping your disciple outside.”

Jiaheng bowed his head even lower, but his eyes remained fixed and wide open.

What attachment?

If he still had attachment, he wouldn’t have taken away the relic back then, disregarding its life or death.

Since he transformed into a tiger and took away the relic, his Immortal, his attachment, had all disappeared.

At that moment, Yu Wuxia’s kiss suddenly landed on the back of Jiaheng’s neck. The familiar sensation swept over him from behind, permeating into Jiaheng’s breath.

Yu Wuxia held his waist, saying, “Master, as your disciple said, if you ignore your disciple, I’ll have to kiss you.”

“…” Jiaheng.

“Master?”

“Shut up, I want to sleep.” Jiaheng’s voice almost overflowed from his chest, his long, dense eyelashes trembling slightly.

A deeper smile played on Yu Wuxia’s lips as he placed another kiss on Jiaheng’s forehead. “Alright, then, Master, go to sleep.”

“…” Jiaheng.

Even though he had already given him an answer, why was there still a kiss?

A disciple who doesn’t keep his word.

Jiaheng furrowed his brow, his breathing gradually slowing down. As he drifted into sleep, his body unconsciously moved towards the embrace behind him, like a shrimp curling its back, tightly held by Yu Wuxia from behind.

Yu Wuxia’s hoarse voice murmured, “Master, I’ve… wanted this for a long time.”

Holding his master until dawn.

Chapter 38 – I was confessed to.

Chapter 38 – I was confessed to.

Zhao Qi has been having trouble sleeping lately and deeply sympathizes with He Changzhou’s pain. He nodded understandingly, “I understand you.”

He Changzhou was taken aback, “You understand me, Your Majesty?”

“The imperial physician gave me a prescription recently, saying daily intake can improve sleep quality. I’ll have Jiang Dehai copy it for you,” Zhao Qi explained.

He Changzhou replied hesitantly, “…So I truly thank Your Majesty for that.”

“Wait,” Zhao Qi’s lengthy thought process finally concluded, “When you mentioned ‘that night,’ which night were you referring to?”

“You mean which night? It was the night of the Longevity Festival,” He Changzhou’s cheeks reddened slightly, but he maintained eye contact with Zhao Qi, “You were utterly drunk, and I carried you back to the palace. Your Majesty was burning hot all over.”

With things said this far, even Zhao Qi could sense the awkwardness. “But didn’t you say you left after bringing me back to the palace?”

He Changzhou seemed to have made up his mind, “Yes, but then I came back.”

Confused, Zhao Qi asked, “Why?”

“Why,” He Changzhou looked down on Zhao Qi, meeting his gaze squarely, “I wanted to ask Your Majesty why. Why you held onto me and wouldn’t let me go, why you asked me to help undress you, why you didn’t want me to leave you alone. Do you know, facing you like that, I couldn’t control myself.”

Zhao Qi felt his breath stop. He heard himself say, “So, it was you that night?” It was He Changzhou who had slept with him?

He Changzhou looked down, like a large dog caught misbehaving, “It was me. I hurt Your Majesty. Your shoulder—Your Majesty? Your Majesty!”

Pinching his own philtrum, Zhao Qi couldn’t stand straight—had he been taken advantage of by his best friend?!

No, I can’t accept this!

Quickly, get me an oxygen tank; I can’t hold on any longer…

Initially supporting Zhao Qi, He Changzhou ended up lifting him. “Your Majesty, hang in there; I’ll send someone to fetch the imperial physician!”

Furious, Zhao Qi yelled, forgetting his own dignity, “Damn it, don’t touch me! Let go!”

He Changzhou held him tighter, resolute. “I won’t let go.”

“You… bastard!” Zhao Qi struggled weakly, like a delicate girl. Realizing he couldn’t break free, he exploded on the spot, biting He Changzhou’s shoulder fiercely.

He Changzhou wasn’t wearing armor, just a thin layer of military uniform. Despite his tough exterior, he couldn’t help but grunt at the bite. Yet, he didn’t flinch, allowing Zhao Qi to continue biting.

Blood spread on his crimson uniform. Tasting blood, Zhao Qi finally released his grip.

He Changzhou still held him, his voice hoarse, “Had enough? If not, Your Majesty can continue.”

Grabbing his shirt’s lapels, Zhao Qi muttered to himself, “I excluded you first… you disappointed me so much!!!”

He Changzhou hadn’t expected his actions to provoke such a strong reaction from Zhao Qi. “I’m sorry, Your Majesty. I shouldn’t have treated you that way.”

Bitterly, Zhao Qi said, “You’re my best friend here!”

He Changzhou gently stroked his hair, trying to calm him. “Yes, yes, I was wrong.”

“Do you know what ‘best friends’ means? It means if one day I suddenly turned into a girl, and if you wanted to, I’d marry you!” Zhao Qi cried out, “But I’m a boy, only nineteen…” tears flowed freely, “How could you do such a beastly thing to me!”

As Zhao Qi cried, He Changzhou became increasingly awkward. “Your Majesty, please don’t cry. Should I just consider it as being bitten by a dog?”

Infuriated, Zhao Qi wanted to kill him, “Then I would be the dog’s day!” How could He Changzhou say such things!

Confused and at a loss, He Changzhou replied, “…Huh?”

After venting through biting, crying, and scolding, Zhao Qi finally calmed down a bit, “You can let go now. I won’t hit you. I wouldn’t stand a chance anyway.”

He Changzhou asked tentatively, “So, Your Majesty doesn’t blame me?”

Turning away, Zhao Qi replied coldly, “I don’t want to see you for now. If you want to go to the Western Xia, I won’t stop you.”

After a moment of silence, He Changzhou sat down while still holding Zhao Qi. He sat in a chair with Zhao Qi reluctantly on his lap, facing each other. Zhao Qi was still immersed in the anguish of being taken advantage of by his best friend and didn’t realize their awkward position.

He Changzhou comforted Zhao Qi, “Your Majesty, now that everything’s out in the open, I don’t feel like leaving anymore.”

Glaring at him, Zhao Qi asked, “Are you playing with me?”

“No,” He Changzhou patiently explained, “Actually, I didn’t expect Your Majesty to take it so seriously…”

With a hint of disdain in his eyes, Zhao Qi said, “You didn’t think it was serious? Seems like you and Li Chisu belong to the same category.”

He Changzhou smiled sheepishly, “So, what does Your Majesty plan to do with me?”

Narrowing his eyes, Zhao Qi glanced down at He Changzhou under him. Now the question was, should he dismantle the bastard who violated him, his best friend?

That night, both he and He Changzhou were at fault. He was wrong for acting out after drinking, and He Changzhou was wrong for not pushing him away. Though He Changzhou bore the greatest responsibility, at that moment, it was he who didn’t let the other leave. Ending the He family’s lineage over this matter would be inappropriate. Besides, the He family held great prestige in the military. If the soldiers found out the Emperor had… well, taken liberties with their young general, the scene would be too much to bear, and he didn’t dare to think about it.

Zhao Qi pondered for a moment and said, “You should think twice about this.”

“No need to think twice,” He Changzhou replied earnestly. “I will take responsibility for Your Majesty.”

Zhao Qi’s expression was complicated. “…There’s really no need.” He wasn’t some chaste maiden; being intimate wouldn’t lead to pregnancy. If he could just relax a bit, he could consider it a drunken lapse with a good friend. It sounded like a trivial matter.

“Why isn’t there a need?” He Changzhou persisted. “I want to take responsibility for Your Majesty. I’m willing to take responsibility for Your Majesty. I hope to make Your Majesty… mine alone.”

With He Changzhou being so direct, Zhao Qi’s brain couldn’t keep up. He jumped up suddenly. “W-what do you mean?”

He Changzhou’s eyes sparkled brightly, open and honest. “I like Your Majesty.”

A thousand thoughts raced through Zhao Qi’s mind. He stuttered, “B-but I don’t like you.”

The stars in He Changzhou’s eyes dimmed suddenly. “I know. You like Rong Tang.” He stood up, approached Zhao Qi, his tall figure imposing. “Your Majesty, I’ve always wanted to ask you, what exactly is it about me that’s inferior to Rong Tang? He treats you with indifference, while I try in every way to make you happy. In your heart, am I still inferior to him?”

Zhao Qi defended himself, “It’s not like that! The reason I treat Rong Tang well is because I owe him too much. I just want to make it up to him.”

He Changzhou chuckled. “Your Majesty didn’t say that before. Everyone in the palace knows, Rong Tang is Your Majesty’s favored.”

“…Yes,” he had said something similar, but that was just a means to maintain his image initially. Could He Changzhou really believe it?

“I don’t want to dwell on the past,” He Changzhou looked deeply into Zhao Qi’s eyes. “What I seek now is Your Majesty’s future.”

He Changzhou’s sudden confession left Zhao Qi utterly bewildered. Coupled with the scare he had just experienced, he felt his heart and mind were on the verge of collapse. But he had to make things clear with He Changzhou. Although he had never been in love, he knew ambiguous behavior often led to misunderstandings. He didn’t want to be seen as leading anyone on, especially not his brother.

Taking a deep breath, Zhao Qi said, “Changzhou, listen carefully. I don’t like you, and I don’t like Rong Tang either. I… am not interested in romance.”

He Changzhou obviously didn’t believe this. “You’re not interested? Then how do you explain that night?”

Zhao Qi sighed in frustration. “I was drunk.”

“Just being drunk can lead to such a strong reaction?” He Changzhou pressed on mercilessly. “Is it because you can’t live without a man once he’s left?”

Zhao Qi had no words to respond. This was the question that had puzzled him all along. He prided himself on his tolerance for alcohol; being drunk usually just made him a bit wild, not… whatever had happened that night. Could it be that his reaction wasn’t due to drunkenness but for some other reason?

Their conversation was interrupted by the announcement, “Prime Minister is here.” Xiao Shiqing entered the hall, followed by Chen Li, the Grand Minister of Justice. Seeing the two of them, Xiao Shiqing asked, “Why is General He here at the Hall of Government Affairs?”

He Changzhou replied, “Prime Minister, His Majesty says he only likes women, not men. Do you believe him?”

A hint of something unusual flickered in Xiao Shiqing’s deep black eyes as he picked up a tinderbox beside the lamp and relit it. He calmly said, “No.”

He Changzhou smiled, “Your Majesty, see? Even the Prime Minister doesn’t believe you.”

Zhao Qi felt like banging his head against a wall. “This is so frustrating!”

Xiao Shiqing’s expression remained calm. “It’s late. Don’t shout.”

Zhao Qi pursed his lips, feeling a bit aggrieved. First, his brother confessed to him, and now his brother had outed him. And to top it off, Xiao Shiqing was scolding him. What a complicated and heated life he was living.

“The Prime Minister doesn’t seem to be in a good mood,” Zhao Qi said, changing the subject. “Chen Li.”

Chen Li hurriedly responded, “Here, Your Majesty.”

“Did you upset the Prime Minister?” Zhao Qi asked.

Chen Li waved his hands repeatedly, “It wasn’t me, Your Majesty. I didn’t.”

“That’s enough,” Xiao Shiqing said coldly. “Let’s stick to the matter at hand.”

Chen Li said, “Yes. Your Majesty, regarding the case of the poisoning death of the Crown Prince of Western Xia, I have found some important clues.”

With national affairs at hand, Zhao Qi temporarily put aside personal matters, gathered his focus, and said, “Mr. Chen, I’m surprised you managed to find such crucial clues! Tell me quickly, what earth-shattering discovery have you made?”

Chen Li knew that Zhao Qi had a biased view against him due to the early peach blossom case at Muyang Temple. “Your Majesty, firstly, Prince Zhaonan received a mysterious note. It was written on cotton paper from Jiangyou, which is known for its fine texture and softness, exclusively used in the palace. Moreover, the note carried a faint scent of Moonlight Orchid.”

Zhao Qi said, “Moonlight Orchid… Isn’t that a perfume commonly used by girls?”

“Your Majesty is wise. Upon investigation, I learned that Moonlight Orchid is often used by Princess Jiayan.”

Zhao Qi had a sudden realization. “That makes sense! Empress Mother has always wanted to betroth Princess Jiayan to Prince Zhaonan. Jiayan must have been eager to see her future husband’s true appearance, so she invited him to the Imperial Garden during the banquet and observed him from hiding.”

Chen Li chuckled. “Your Majesty and Prime Minister are thinking along the same lines. However, Princess Jiayan is from an illustrious background, so we couldn’t directly inquire.”

Zhao Qi nodded. “Leave this matter to me and the Empress Mother. What else?”

Chen Li continued, “I have ordered a detailed investigation into all the utensils used by the Western Xia prince during the banquet. There were no traces of Fengguilu poisoning found. While the onset time of Fengguilu varies by individual, it typically does not exceed an hour. If the Prince of Western Xia wasn’t poisoned during the banquet, it must have happened after he left his seat.”

As Zhao Qi thought, he said, “If the Prince went to the Imperial Garden after leaving his seat, does that mean the suspect is among those who were seen in the garden?”

“Yes, currently confirmed are: Master Rong, Prince Zhaonan, and Prince Huai.”

Zhao Qi added, “And Princess Jiayan.”

He Changzhou pondered. “What about motives? What would these four have to gain from poisoning the Prince of Western Xia?”

Xiao Shiqing slowly said, “Let’s set aside Rong Tang and Princess Jiayan for now. As for these two princes, Zhao and Li, their motives can always be uncovered.”

Zhao Qi frowned. In the original story, there was also a plot about the festival banquet, but the eldest prince of Xixia was not poisoned to death. Since transmigrating into the body of the ‘Dog Emperor’, he had indeed altered the storyline significantly. However, Zhao Tong and Li Chisu were far away in their fiefdoms, so their influence should be minimal. If either of them really took action, what reasons could have prompted them to change their minds?

In the original story, Li Chisu’s actions upon entering the capital were similar to his current behavior—frequenting the pleasure quarters and indulging in luxuries. Meanwhile, Zhao Tong, upon returning to the capital in the original plot, focused primarily on consolidating support. Apart from Rong Tang, who was trapped in the palace, he met with quite a few people, including…

For a moment, no one spoke. Xiao Shiqing stood up and said, “It’s getting late. The Emperor should return to the palace and rest. We’ll discuss this matter again tomorrow.”

Chen Li tactfully said, “I’ll take my leave.”

After Chen Li left, He Changzhou showed no intention of leaving. Xiao Shiqing looked at him. “General He, is there something else?”

He Changzhou replied, “There are still some personal matters between His Majesty and me that we haven’t finished discussing. Prime Minister, you need not concern yourself.”

Just when they had managed to temporarily forget their troubles, now everything came flooding back. Zhao Qi lay his head on the table, pretending to be asleep.

“Personal matters,” Xiao Shiqing smiled faintly, “I wasn’t aware that you and His Majesty had personal matters.”

He Changzhou said, “There are many things the Prime Minister doesn’t know.”

“Since it’s personal matters, there’s no need to discuss them late at night in the palace,” Xiao Shiqing said, “You can come again tomorrow. The Emperor needs to rest.”

He Changzhou chuckled, “Prime Minister, since you don’t sleep with His Majesty, why bother about when he sleeps?”

Xiao Shiqing also smiled, “And how would General He know whether I sleep with His Majesty or not?”

He Changzhou hesitated, “…”

“Your Majesty,” Xiao Shiqing turned to Zhao Qi, “let’s return to the palace. It’s time for bed.”

Chapter 50 – Feather Touch

Chapter 50: Feather Touch

Long Ling carried his phoenix and walked towards the second floor.

Although he had no specific memories, he subconsciously knew the layout of this small building and the location of the bedroom on the second floor.

After a millennium, this wooden building seemed sealed by time, with all decorations intact as if untouched by years.

Long Ling entered the bedroom, elegantly arranged with a large soft bed by the window, its corners dr4p3d with light curtains, which made him pause momentarily.

At the same time, flashes of images crossed his mind—it seemed like thousands of years ago, he and the phoenix were on this bed…

Long Ling stiffened slightly, lowering his gaze to his phoenix—Su Muluo was still asleep, one hand unknowingly clutching his clothes, unwilling to let go.

A smile quickly crossed Long Ling’s eyes. Tenderly, he brushed Su Muluo’s forehead and gently laid him on the bed.

As the light curtains lifted and fell, Long Ling lay down beside his phoenix, reaching out to embrace his slender waist.

Unconsciously, Su Muluo buried his face in Long Ling’s chest, even in his dreams, clinging to his dragon.

Long Ling soothingly patted Su Muluo’s back, holding his phoenix close as they fell asleep together.

Su Muluo slept deeply, unaware of how much time had passed before he finally woke up.

Everything from the dream had faded away. He felt himself lying on a soft bed, tightly held in the arms of his dragon—lifting his head, he noticed Long Ling still asleep.

Silently, Su Muluo shifted, burying his face in Long Ling’s shoulder. He wanted to smell the scent of his dragon, but soon frowned.

There was a hint of blood on his dragon’s body.

Was he injured?

Su Muluo immediately looked at Long Ling’s face, finding him still asleep. He reached out, intending to unbutton his clothes—

But his hand was stopped by another slender hand.

“Phoenix,” Long Ling opened his eyes, a slight smile on his lips, “what are you doing?”

Su Muluo met his gaze, not withdrawing his hand. “Are you injured?”

Long Ling paused for a moment, then quickly replied, “No, I’m fine.”

Su Muluo said, “Then let me check your clothes.”

Long Ling fell silent.

Knowing he wouldn’t admit it, Su Muluo didn’t press further. Instead, he took matters into his own hands and continued unbuttoning Long Ling’s clothes.

Long Ling protested, “Phoenix, you’re undressing me, trying to take advantage of me!”

He tried to cover up something, but Su Muluo remained unfazed. Amid their struggle, Long Ling’s outer garment was eventually pulled open by his phoenix.

As Su Muluo suspected, Long Ling’s smooth muscles were covered with several scars, each one long and sharp, inflicted by the golden dragon’s claws.

However, being a dragon, Long Ling had immense vitality and healed quickly. Most of these wounds had already scarred over, and some of the less severe ones were almost completely healed.

Despite this, when Su Muluo saw these wounds, he was momentarily stunned, unable to speak. His heart felt like it was bleeding, aching intensely.

Long Ling cautiously watched Su Muluo’s expression, sensing his phoenix was deeply upset, wearing a sullen face, clearly unhappy.

Like a bullied, dejected fledgling bird.

“Phoenix,” Long Ling’s heart ached, leaning closer to stroke Su Muluo’s face, softly comforting, “Don’t worry, these are just minor injuries, they’ll heal quickly.”

“And you didn’t see how that dragon looked, I nearly stripped him of his protective scales, he nearly lost his life.”

Su Muluo ignored this small boasting in dragon talk. His brows furrowed tightly, suddenly remembering something, he lowered his head and kissed that wound.

Long Ling: “…”

He almost couldn’t control his gasp of cold air, and even wanted to press his phoenix on the bed to touch the feathers.

But he also knew that his phoenix did not mean that, just wanted to help him heal-the phoenix’s saliva is also a kind of precious treasure, with extremely precious healing effects.

The bedroom was quiet, and Long Ling looked down at his phoenix’s forehead, trying hard to stay calm and thinking in his heart: I knew I should have been injured more.

Su Muluo seemed to hear his thoughts, and at this moment he looked at him quietly.

Long Ling: “…”

He immediately kissed Su Muluo, smiling and saying: “The Phoenix looks really good, I like Phoenix the most!”

Su Muluo did not speak, raised his hand, and gently touched Long Ling’s wound.

In just a few seconds, those wounds healed without leaving a trace – but even so, Long Ling still had a grim scar on his abdomen.

Su Muluo saw this scar clearly in the hotel two days ago, and now he also knew who left it.

“Where is that person?”

“I drove him away with a serious injury,” Long Ling said proudly, pressing his jaw on Su Muluo’s shoulder, “I thought he was very strong, but it turned out to be nothing.”

He looked like he was going to praise Phoenix, and Su Muluo’s eyes showed a little smile, touching his head and saying, “So amazing.”

But if his dragon is stronger than the golden dragon, how could he have been seriously injured and lost his bones thousands of years ago?

Or did the golden dragon use some means that cannot be seen?

Su Muluo’s face was slightly darkened again when he thought of this, and he said to Long Ling, “What about your dragon bones?”

Long Ling casually reached back and took the dragon bones that he had thrown on the bedside.

This is a section of spine, all white, with a layer of black mist enveloping it, which makes it clear that it is not an ordinary product.

Su Muluo carefully took it-overlap with this section of spine, and his eyes suddenly flashed with a lot of images.

A golden dragon pressed a black dragon under its claws, the blade tore off the scales, pierced the abdomen, and forcefully pulled out a bloody bone…

“Don’t!”

In that instant, Su Muluo couldn’t help but scream, he even forgot that he was still in reality, grabbed Long Ling’s arm in horror, and sweated coldly.

Fortunately, the next second, those pictures disappeared, he was hugged by Long Ling, patted his back and comforted, “It’s okay, Phoenix, nothing happened, you see, I’m still good here.”

“…”

Su Muluo looked at Long Ling for a few seconds in a daze, suddenly hugged him tightly, and buried his face in his chest, no longer wanting to leave this embrace.

Although it was just a few fragments, he seemed to have experienced the pain of losing his dragon in a nightmare again, so clear… He couldn’t imagine how his dragon would endure all this.

”It’s all in the past. I don’t even remember that pain anymore.” Long Ling stroked Su Muluo’s hair gently and said softly, “My bones had already grown out when I broke free from the shell, so it’s okay.”

Su Muluo remained silent, still tightly gripping Long Ling’s clothes. He had just experienced in his dreams the pain of losing his clan and witnessed his dragon being stripped of its bones. Cold sweat trickled down his back, and he remained silent for a long time.

Long Ling comforted his own phoenix for a while until he noticed the phoenix’s mood improving. He glanced at the piece of dragon bone and considered throwing it away.

Su Muluo suddenly grabbed his hand and asked, “What are you doing?”

”It’s useless to me and only makes the phoenix sad,” Long Ling said. “So I want to throw it away.”

Holding onto the dragon bone, Su Muluo refused to let go. “You’re not allowed to throw it away.”

It was something from his dragon; how could he casually discard it?

Long Ling looked at the dragon bone and then at his phoenix. “Then, should I make it into a dagger and let the phoenix carry it with us?”

After thinking for a moment, Su Muluo nodded and finally handed the dragon bone back to him.

Long Ling looked at his precious phoenix and the dragon bone in his hand. A slight smile appeared on his lips. “I even gave my own dragon bone to the phoenix. How will the phoenix thank me?”

Upon hearing this, Su Muluo glanced at him, then shifted his gaze to the feather bracelet he was wearing.

Immediately, Long Ling concealed his feather bracelet in his sleeve and quickly said, “Alright, I didn’t say anything.”

Despite his words, he leaned over and kissed Su Muluo on the cheek, gleefully taking advantage of the situation.

Su Muluo said nothing, allowing him to take advantage, and after a while, he said, “Here, I saw the apparition left by me from a thousand years ago, and he left me a message.”

Long Ling made a sound of acknowledgment, “Hmm, what did he say?”

Su Muluo recounted word for word what his dream-self had told Long Ling. After hearing it, he fell into contemplation.

“Seal…” He furrowed his brows slightly, “What kind of seal is it that’s related to the heavenly path?”

Su Muluo shook his head. “I don’t know either.”

Now it seemed that in order to restore his previous power, he needed to break the seals on his body. There should be several layers of seals, with only the final one that couldn’t be undone—because once it was undone, it would touch upon some truths from his past that he had desperately wanted to conceal.

And that truth probably involved the downfall of both the Dragon and Phoenix clans… as well as the hidden secrets of the heavenly path.

Long Ling and Su Muluo locked eyes for a few seconds. Long Ling gently touched his Phoenix’s forehead and said, “In that case, the Phoenix doesn’t need to unlock the last seal.”

“I will always protect the Phoenix.”

Su Muluo didn’t say anything, just nodded.

However, despite his outward agreement, what he was thinking inside was that if his dragon were really in danger someday, he would definitely spare no effort to undo that last seal.

Apparently, he had thought the same way a thousand years ago, otherwise he wouldn’t have left these words for his present self.

While Su Muluo was lost in thought with his eyes lowered, his face suddenly became slightly moist—Long Ling had kissed him on the cheek.

“…” He stared at Long Ling and, after a few seconds, said, “I’m not giving you another kiss.”

Long Ling: “Don’t want it.”

After speaking, he shamelessly leaned in and kissed him again, who knows how many times.

Su Muluo: “…”

Su Muluo remained silent again.

With a sullen face on the surface, he actually held onto Long Ling’s clothes corner and refused to let go.

Long Ling noticed his little gesture and the smile in his eyes almost overflowed.

After his Phoenix woke up, it became extremely clingy and adorable, saying he shouldn’t be kissed, but in reality, he still indulged him.

So he happily buried his face in Su Muluo’s shoulder and rubbed it back and forth, lifting his head only after he had enough, asking, “Does the Phoenix want to go back now?”

By now, they had explored Suyuan thoroughly. Although they hadn’t fully recovered their memories, they had gained a lot.

After thinking for a moment, Su Muluo nodded and said, “Let’s go.”

They were just leaving temporarily; they could come back here again. And he also planned to think carefully after returning about how to unlock the other seals on his body except for the last one.

Long Ling wanted to hold his Phoenix’s hand and leave, but Su Muluo didn’t let him. Instead, he spread out his arms at him, blinking and staring at him.

He wanted a hug.

Long Ling was slightly stunned, then burst into laughter, lifting his Phoenix horizontally and nuzzling him affectionately, “The Phoenix is so clingy to me. Why didn’t you want to kiss me a few more times just now?”

Su Muluo remained silent, burying his face in his shoulder, pretending to be a quail.

Long Ling couldn’t resist his adorable Phoenix at all, immediately agreeing, “Okay, whatever the Phoenix wants.”

Su Muluo was finally satisfied, like a child who got candy, pressing his soft face against Long Ling’s and rubbing it affectionately.

Long Ling immediately kissed his Phoenix’s cheek again, holding his beloved Phoenix tightly.

It took two days to go from Lin City to where they were, but returning only took a few hours. In the evening, Long Ling returned to Lin City with his Phoenix in his arms and asked, “Do you want to go to the coffee shop first?”

Su Muluo shook his head and said, “Let’s go back, I’m tired.”

— But they had only slept a few hours ago.

Long Ling suddenly became alert and asked, “What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”

Su Muluo said, “No,” and whispered, “I just want to go to bed early.”

This puzzled Long Ling even more, as the Phoenix seemed perfectly fine just moments ago… but he didn’t say anything, instead carrying his Phoenix back to their rental house.

Inside the rental house, Su Muluo took a shower first and then urged Long Ling to do the same.

Long Ling was puzzled, “But it’s still early, only seven o’clock.”

“I want to sleep,” Su Muluo said, “I want you to hold me.”

He was wearing soft pajamas and smelled of fresh shower gel. He tugged at Long Ling’s clothes gently, swaying slightly.

Long Ling immediately surrendered and went to take a shower.

After showering, he found that the lights in the living room had been turned off by Su Muluo. His Phoenix had curled up under the blankets in the bedroom, only showing a pair of eyes, quietly watching him.

Long Ling thought to himself: Today’s Phoenix seems unusually obedient.

He then walked over and lay down on the bed, embracing his soft Phoenix.

“Should I turn off the lights?”

Su Muluo made a sound of agreement, and Long Ling turned off the lights in the room, plunging it into darkness.

With darkness came silence. Su Muluo lay silently in Long Ling’s arms, feeling the warmth he brought… He looked up and saw his dragon quietly watching him in the darkness.

They gazed at each other for a while. Long Ling spoke softly, “Does the Phoenix want to tell me something?”

His voice was deep and gentle, filled with affection and fondness. His dark golden eyes were deep and profound, like bottomless pools, threatening to engulf Su Muluo gently.

“…”

Su Muluo hadn’t spoken for a while. Just when Long Ling thought he might not respond, he suddenly saw his Phoenix lower his head, clutching Long Ling’s sleeve, and softly saying,

“I want… to let you touch my feathers.”

Long Ling: “…”

Chapter 37 – Am I still your puppet emperor?

Chapter 37 – Am I still your puppet emperor?

Zhao Qi took the sunken wooden box and didn’t open it immediately. Instead, he weighed it in his hand. “Seems like it’s something small?”

Xiao Shiqing remained noncommittal.

Zhao Qi opened the wooden box to find half of a token shaped like a crouching tiger inside. His mouth gaped in astonishment. “Could this be the legendary… Tiger Token?”

“Why do you say ‘legendary’?” Xiao Shiqing replied. “The Tiger Token has existed since ancient times. It’s split in two halves: one given to the generals, the other kept by the emperor. Only when both halves are combined can the bearer command troops. Due to certain circumstances, both halves were in my possession. Returning half to you now is returning it to its rightful owner.”

Zhao Qi held the half Tiger Token in his palm. The touch of the bronze was cool, gradually sobering him. “The other half is still with my brother?”

“Yes.”

This birthday gift was something Zhao Qi had never expected. He had thought Xiao Shiqing would casually give him some exotic treasure, but instead, he gave him… half of the country.

Suddenly, Zhao Qi felt the weight of bronze in his hand. Was Xiao Shiqing testing him, or did he genuinely intend to give him the Tiger Token?

Last time, when Xiao Shiqing had proposed letting Zhao Qi take over the government, Zhao Qi was certain it was the former. But this time, he wasn’t so sure. After these days of interaction, he could feel Xiao Shiqing was truly teaching and assisting him. Ignoring Xiao Shiqing’s playful teasing in private, Zhao Qi was even considering giving him a banner that read “loyal minister and good general.”

Zhao Qi hesitated to respond, and Xiao Shiqing seemed displeased. “Your Majesty doesn’t seem to like my gift.”

Zhao Qi scratched his head. “Brother’s gift is too precious.”

“I’m only asking if you like it or not.”

Seeing Xiao Shiqing growing impatient, Zhao Qi dared not say he didn’t like it. “I like it,” he hesitated, “but does Brother really want to return half of the military power to me?”

Xiao Shiqing looked at him. “What exactly do you want to say?”

Gathering his courage, Zhao Qi said, “Don’t you see me as a puppet emperor anymore?”

Xiao Shiqing fell silent.

Feeling uneasy, Zhao Qi asked, “Brother?”

Suddenly, Xiao Shiqing smiled. “A puppet? At this point, you still think I see you as a puppet?”

Zhao Qi blinked. “I’m not sure, that’s why I asked Brother.”

Xiao Shiqing closed his eyes as if slightly annoyed. “Yes, I see you as a puppet. I’m wasting time on a puppet every day. I think it’s not right to hold military power alone, so I gave half of it to you—a satisfactory answer, Your Majesty?”

Zhao Qi could tell Xiao Shiqing was angry but didn’t know why. This man’s thoughts were too difficult to gauge.

“Your Majesty… satisfied?” Faced with Xiao Shiqing’s piercing gaze, Zhao Qi quickly changed his tune. “Not satisfied. I’m not satisfied!”

Xiao Shiqing didn’t bother to argue further. “Keep the Tiger Token.”

“Wait,” Zhao Qi said, “So in the future, we can only command the troops when we combine our halves of the token?”

Xiao Shiqing paused. “Yes.”

Zhao Qi slowly closed his palm around the half token. Whatever, since Xiao Shiqing had given it to him so insistently, he wouldn’t refuse it for nothing.

“Thank you, Brother,” Zhao Qi said, “I will take good care of this half Tiger Token.”

Xiao Shiqing’s expression softened slightly. “You better.”

“Oh, by the way, there’s something else I want to discuss with Brother.”

“Speak.”

Zhao Qi said, “Haiyan Hall isn’t really my sleeping palace. I can’t keep staying there. I want to move back to Yonghua Palace.”

Xiao Shiqing’s gaze locked onto Zhao Qi’s face, a smile playing at his lips. “Does Your Majesty want to return to Yonghua Palace, or do you want to see someone in Yonghua Palace?”

“The people in Yonghua Palace… Brother means Rong Tang?” Zhao Qi asked naturally, “Rong Tang’s recovery is almost complete, so he’ll definitely move back to Tipsy Book Pavilion.”

“Oh, is that so,” Xiao Shiqing said lightly, “Did he tell you that himself?”

Zhao Qi was puzzled. “Is there a need for him to say?”

“That’s not necessarily true,” Xiao Shiqing said, “When he moves out, you can move back in. It’s late now, time to sleep.”

“Oh,” Zhao Qi lay back down. Xiao Shiqing remained seated beside his bed, showing no intention to leave. Zhao Qi asked, “Brother, aren’t you leaving?”

Xiao Shiqing adjusted the covers slightly. “I’ll leave after you fall asleep.”

“…,” Zhao Qi thought Xiao Shiqing staring at him like this would keep him awake, but he soon felt drowsy. Xiao Shiqing’s faint ink fragrance inexplicably brought peace, and with his presence, Zhao Qi gradually drifted into dreams.

The next day, Zhao Qi ordered Jiang Dehai to tidy up and prepare to return to Yonghua Palace. “Oh, and have someone redecorate Zuishu Pavilion. Check what’s missing and replenish whatever is needed.”

In the evening, Zhao Qi returned to Yonghua Palace and unexpectedly found lights on in the side hall. He asked, “Who’s in there?”

Xiao Jinzi replied, “Your Majesty, have you forgotten? Lord Rong is still here at Yonghua Palace.”

Zhao Qi paused, “He hasn’t left yet?”

Jiang Dehai asked, “Should I chase him away, Your Majesty?”

“How can you use such words as ‘chase’?” Zhao Qi corrected, “I want to invite him back to Zuishu Pavilion.”

“Shall I go and invite him now?” Jiang Dehai asked.

After hesitating for a moment, Zhao Qi said, “I remember Prime Minister Xiao returned to his residence tonight, right?”

“Yes.”

“Then let’s talk to him tomorrow. It’s too late today; let’s not disturb him.”

“As you command.”

After Zhao Qi left, Xiao Jinzi couldn’t help but comment, “Grand Tutor, don’t you think our Emperor behaves like someone sneaking around with a favored concubine behind the Empress’s back?”

Jiang Dehai glared at him, “Tsk, you’re getting more talkative. You might as well stop being called ‘Xiao Jinzi’ and be called ‘Xiao Duozi’ instead. Now go and do your work!”

The next day, Jiang Dehai and Xiao Jinzi went together to invite Rong Tang back to Zuishu Pavilion. Rong Tang replied calmly, “Is this His Majesty’s wish or Prime Minister Xiao’s?”

Jiang Dehai cautiously answered, “This servant doesn’t know.”

Rong Tang glanced towards Zhao Qi’s sleeping quarters and smiled faintly, “I understand. Grand Tutor, rest assured, I won’t make things difficult for His Majesty.” Once he decided on something, patience was the least of his lacking qualities.

If Xiao Shiqing could patiently wait, so could he.

After some twists and turns, Zhao Qi finally returned to living alone. Jiang Dehai couldn’t help but sigh, “It’s only when Prime Minister Xiao and Lord Rong both step back that His Majesty finds these moments of peace.”

Xiao Jinzi remarked, “Grand Tutor, Prime Minister Xiao doesn’t seem like someone who would step back.”

Jiang Dehai calmly replied, “You have a point. He retreats to advance, biding his time.”

News of the Crown Prince of Western Xia quickly spread to their homeland, where it was said the Western Xia King was furious, threatening to cease allegiance to Great Jing if there was no resolution within seven days. Meanwhile, ten thousand troops from Western Xia were rushing towards the border between the two nations, ready to camp and prepare for action.

With the backing of their homeland, Western Xia envoys in the capital became increasingly arrogant, moving about the Imperial Palace as if it were uninhabited, pressing their demands multiple times a day. Particularly upon learning the Western Xia Crown Prince had fallen victim to a secret poison from the Great Jing court, they became even more brazen, spouting reckless threats. Initially, Zhao Qi could maintain a cordial demeanor towards them, but eventually grew tired and simply began to mimic Xiao Shiqing, refusing to see them—no matter how loud they protested.

During morning court, officials engaged in heated debates over this case. Leaving aside whether they could identify the true culprit within seven days, many military officials were displeased with Western Xia’s actions. From their perspective, Western Xia was merely a minor vassal state of Great Jing, with thirty thousand Forbidden Army soldiers stationed solely for the protection of the capital. To them, Western Xia’s ten thousand troops seemed audacious. Conversely, most civilian officials believed Great Jing was at fault in this matter; with the kingdom plagued by natural disasters and frequent flooding in the south, empty treasuries, and avoidable military conflicts, it was imperative to capture and deliver the true murderer of the Western Xia Crown Prince to Western Xia for punishment, regardless of who it was.

Zhao Qi listened attentively. When he heard the phrase “frequent flooding,” he was momentarily distracted, his face flushing. He felt like he would never be able to face those three words directly again—it was all the fault of that damned bastard!

In the end, Xiao Shiqing spoke up to end the debate between the two sides. “The investigation will continue, while we prepare for military action to be safe.”

With the situation unstable, Zhao Qi reluctantly set aside the search for the bastard and devoted himself wholeheartedly to state affairs.

“Your Majesty.”

Zhao Qi looked up to meet a pair of striking brows and eyes, smiling, “Changzhou, why are you here?”

He Changzhou placed both hands behind his back and walked briskly towards Zhao Qi. “I’ve brought some food for Your Majesty.”

Zhao Qi sniffed, “Wow, smells like lamb?”

“Is Your Majesty a dog?” He Changzhou presented a golden-brown roasted leg of lamb. “I slaughtered it just an hour ago and roasted it immediately for Your Majesty—here.”

Zhao Qi took the leg of lamb and took a big bite, looking satisfied. “Poor little lamb. But aren’t you supposed to be busy with military preparations? Yet you have the leisure to roast lamb for me.”

He Changzhou casually picked up an ink stick from the table and began grinding ink for Zhao Qi. “Your Majesty, we haven’t seen each other in a while.”

“We saw each other at court, didn’t we?”

“That doesn’t count.” He Changzhou lowered his gaze. “Your Majesty hasn’t noticed that I haven’t been visiting you recently.”

Zhao Qi thought about it and realized there might be some truth to that. He had noticed that He Changzhou used to visit the palace frequently, but lately, he had been coming less often. Zhao Qi belatedly realized that even at court, He Changzhou would deliberately avoid making eye contact with him, as if avoiding him altogether.

With a self-deprecating smile, He Changzhou said, “Your Majesty indeed didn’t notice. It seems I’m just an insignificant presence to Your Majesty.”

What was with this complaining tone? If one didn’t know better, they would think he had abandoned He Changzhou after using him.

“Sigh, I’ve had a lot on my mind lately, and you know that.”

He Changzhou nodded, “I know. That’s why I’m here to share Your Majesty’s burdens.”

“Oh? How so?”

He Changzhou said, “I’m willing to lead troops to Western Xia and confront their army to assert our national prestige.”

Frowning, Zhao Qi said, “We’re not at the point of war yet. Even if we were, there’s no need for you to rush over thousands of miles. Those frontier officials aren’t just sitting around.”

He Changzhou smiled, “I’ve been feeling very frustrated lately and wanted to leave the capital, get away. Please agree, Your Majesty.”

“What are you frustrated about?”

He Changzhou looked at Zhao Qi deeply, “Frustrated with Your Majesty.”

“Ah?” Zhao Qi was taken aback and shouldered a heavy burden unexpectedly. “How have I troubled you?”

“You, Your Majesty, have made it so I can’t sleep through the night. Every time I close my eyes, all I see is Your Majesty’s face from that night.”

Chapter 49 – Secrets

Chapter 49: Secrets

Upon discovering Su Muluo had broken his formation, the man first fell silent, then looked astonished.

“It seems I’ve underestimated you,” he said, “I didn’t expect that thousands of years later, you would still be—”

Before he could finish his sentence, a dragon roar thundered from outside the small building, sweeping away all shadows with its overwhelming presence. Long Ling charged into the building, saying, “Phoenix!”

Su Muluo replied calmly, “I’m fine.”

In reality, he had only been trapped by the formation for a few seconds. The reason he was caught was because he hadn’t been on guard.

Long Ling, upon hearing this, was still not entirely reassured. He sniffed the scent on the Phoenix and confirmed that he was indeed uninjured, before casting his icy gaze into the air—

Now that the formation had shattered, a dragon bone floated in mid-air, surrounded by dark electric light, emitting an ominous hue.

At the sight of the dragon bone, Long Ling’s pupils contracted suddenly. In an instant, Su Muluo sensed the soaring hostility and murderous intent emanating from his own dragon’s spine.

He knew why, because that was the spine of his dragon.

He had once had a nightmare, in which his dragon lay bathed in blood, collapsing into his arms… At this moment, that dream finally had an answer.

Su Muluo wanted to move forward with Long Ling, but was stopped by him.

“Don’t move, Phoenix,” Long Ling’s eyes, tinted with a dark golden hue, were icy, yet his tone remained gentle when facing Su Muluo. “This is mine. I must reclaim it.”

Su Muluo looked at him and nodded after a few seconds. “Alright.”

The man obviously could hear their conversation, sneering coldly. The dragon bones flew out of the small building enveloped in black electric light — at the same time, Long Ling chased after without hesitation.

The next moment, two loud dragon roars almost simultaneously echoed. Su Muluo quickly stepped out and saw a large golden dragon soaring in the sky above the valley, instantly entangled with another black dragon.

“Oh my god!” The spirit of the jade pendant was shocked speechless, “I-Is that… Lord Long Ling’s kin?!”

Su Muluo remained silent with a calm expression. He had previously speculated whether the man behind the demonic spirit was a dragon, and now it seemed his speculation was confirmed.

The golden dragon was obviously fully grown, its scales shining like pure gold, standing majestically above the valley, resembling a sun ruling over all.

But if it was a sun, then the black dragon was a bottomless abyss, swallowing all light. It matched the golden dragon in size and was equally imposing, unaffected by the golden dragon’s brilliance, exuding an equally overwhelming aura.

The battle between the black and golden dragons was like two mountains colliding, their roars shaking the surroundings, their claws splitting mountains and shattering rocks. For a moment, darkness engulfed the sky, and the valley floor trembled, yet the small building stood firm, unaffected.

Spirit of the jade pendant: “Ahhhh, so frightening!!”

After all, it was just a spiritual entity and could not withstand such an impact like Su Muluo, who was the Phoenix himself. It immediately wanted to retreat into the jade pendant… But as it turned around, it suddenly saw something inside the small building and exclaimed.

“Lord Phoenix! Look there!”

At this moment, all of Su Muluo’s attention was on the battle of his dragon. It took several calls from the spirit of the jade pendant to distract him — it was this glance that caught his eye.

Inside the small building, a shadowy figure in a black robe with silver hair sat quietly in a chair.

It was a young man with silver hair loosely tied behind him, wearing a white shirt adorned with white feathers and dr4p3d with a black robe. His slender fingers rested on the table, knuckles slightly bent, eyelashes lowered as if contemplating, yet also waiting.

His skin was pale as snow, his features delicate and beautiful like a serene lake — Su Muluo silently watched him, a profoundly strange feeling welling up inside him.

This was himself.

The difference was that he now had black hair, while this version of himself had silver hair.

Outside, the battle between the black and golden dragons continued to intensify. Su Muluo waited for a few seconds and noticed that the shadowy figure hadn’t moved at all, seeming to be merely an illusion. He turned to go back to observe the battle.

But this time, it was again the spirit of the jade pendant that reminded him, saying, “Lord Phoenix, it seems like this illusion is about to disappear!”

Su Muluo halted, seeing the shadow on the chair gradually becoming transparent, as if about to dissipate. In that moment, as if guided by some force, he subconsciously walked over, lifted his hand, and touched the illusion —

At the same time, the illusion completely dissipated, a faint light merging into Su Muluo’s body, his pupils slightly contracting.

In an instant, he felt as if he had fallen from a great height once again, plunging into a cold abyss. The familiar sensation enveloped him, but this time, he truly seemed to sink into the depths, unable to breathe… It wasn’t until several seconds later that the suffocating feeling slowly faded away.

Boom!

A thunderous roar tore through the dark sky, and heavy rain poured down. Su Muluo realized he was no longer in the valley, or perhaps not in the time a thousand years later, but back thousands of years ago, in the original territory of the Phoenix clan.

He was dr4p3d in a white robe, drenched from head to toe in rain, his ink-black hair clinging wetly to his face. He coughed violently from the lack of oxygen… But as he lifted his head and surveyed his surroundings, he froze.

A dark sky hung over the land, rain washing away everything. He saw devastation all around, the exquisite pavilions reduced to rubble, only fragments remaining.

Mud and water flowed over the charred land, the air still tainted with the smell of blood and burnt flesh. This was supposed to be the ancient territory of the Bird Clan thousands of years ago, yet it resembled little of the vibrant valley of Tujian today.

Su Muluo looked around bewilderedly, intending to search for traces of his kin, only to realize he had been kneeling in the rain for who knows how long. His legs had gone numb, and as soon as he stood up, he collapsed into the cold rainwater.

His hands pressed against the ground, a stabbing pain shot through his fingers and spread throughout his body. When he lowered his head, he saw his hands drenched in blood, nails broken, fingers caked with mud…

Suddenly, a tremendous sense of panic engulfed him. It was a feeling of helplessness, as if everything had already happened and he could only watch, powerless. Ignoring the pain and numbness in his legs, Su Muluo struggled to stand up, staggering through the rain.

With each step, his heart sank deeper. The torrential rain seemed to have washed away everything, and he found nothing, saw nothing, about his people… It was as if they were all gone.

Suddenly, Su Muluo stopped in his tracks.

He saw a feather.

A bloodstained… blue feather.

This feather pierced into Su Muluo’s eyes like a sharp needle, tearing open the bloody truth. All his hopes shattered completely, as if plunging into an icy abyss, uncontrollably trembling.

At the same time, countless images flooded into his mind, his brain felt like it was splitting with pain, and he bent over in agony.

Accompanied by these images rushing in, he saw countless thunderbolts descending from the sky, like a torrential waterfall pouring down from the heavens, instantly swallowing the entire Phoenix territory —

The silent pavilions and towers vanished without a sound, the sorrowful cries of many Phoenixes echoed through the sky, blood-stained feathers fluttered, flesh and bones rapidly disintegrated, layer upon layer of blood splattered on the earth, staining the soil crimson…

This hellish scene lasted only a moment, but within an instant, it was over.

Then came the pouring rain, lasting for days, as if the heavens wept cold tears of destruction, washing everything away… The Phoenix clan also perished in this torrential rain.

His head felt like it was being gnawed by countless insects. Su Muluo knelt to the ground, feeling his internal organs torn apart, his flesh and blood severed, unbearable pain engulfing him.

Why… Why did it have to be like this…

Looking up, tears of blood streamed from the corners of his eyes. His once dark hair now turned white with shock. He wanted to speak, but could only utter hoarse and brief syllables — at that moment, he had even lost the ability to speak.

It was then that he heard a very faint sigh.

The sigh was close, right by his ear, and very familiar. It was his own voice.

“Some things, perhaps it’s better not to know them than to know.”

The voice spoke softly,

“Thousands of years ago, my clan was destroyed by the Heavenly Dao. I expended all my Nirvana power but couldn’t save them… It was then that I glimpsed some secrets of the Heavenly Dao.”

“Later, I sealed away my memories and part of my power, entering a deep slumber. However, I advise you not to unlock all the seals, because the final truth may not be what you wish to know.”

“But if one day he faces danger and your current power cannot protect him… then unlock the last seal.”

“Even if everything cannot be undone, at least you can save him.”

The voice faded gradually from Su Muluo’s ears. He clenched his fists tightly, feeling as if he was submerged in icy water, chilling him to the bone.

Those were words left to him by himself from thousands of years ago, and the “he” in the last sentence referred to Long Ling.

Su Muluo could even recall his expression back then, one of resignation and sadness… But why?

Why did he seal his own memories and specifically warn himself not to unlock the final seal?

And the secrets of the Heavenly Dao… were they related to him? Were they related to the demise of the Phoenix clan, and why he was the only Phoenix left?

Su Muluo’s mind felt like it was about to split apart. In those few short seconds, countless questions flashed through his mind. It was as if he had touched upon another world, one that he had never encountered before but was extremely perilous…

Cold sweat dripped from his forehead, his vision began to darken, and as the scenes of that great rain and the Phoenix territory faded from his sight, he finally lost consciousness and fell down.

Boom!

The sound of mountains collapsing echoed through the entire valley. A golden dragon slammed heavily into a cliff, causing the rocks beneath it to crumble inch by inch, turning into rubble.

It let out a cry of pain and anger. Its tough scales were torn off forcibly, revealing a deep wound on its abdomen that exposed bone, blood splattering and forming a bloody rain in the valley.

“If my power had fully recovered, how could I let you, you lowly…”

The golden dragon gritted its teeth, looking up at the black dragon towering above it with deep hatred in its eyes.

“Just you wait!”

Before finishing its words, the golden dragon disappeared from its original spot, while the black dragon did not pursue.

Although it had severely wounded the golden dragon, it too was injured. Just like how the golden dragon couldn’t kill it, it couldn’t easily kill the other either.

Moreover, there was something more important—just now, it sensed no trace of the Phoenix.

Returning to the small building with its dragon bones, the black dragon landed and reverted to its human form.

“Phoenix!” Seeing his Phoenix lying on the ground, his expression changed suddenly. He rushed over and held Su Muluo in his arms. “What happened to him?!”

The latter half was spoken to the spirit of the jade pendant. When Su Muluo passed out, the spirit transformed into a barrier to protect him, and now seeing Long Ling, it immediately recounted everything that had just happened.

“Lord Phoenix saw the apparition left behind from thousands of years ago, walked over to it, and stood there motionless. I called out to him many times, but he seemed not to hear me.” The spirit of the jade pendant said, “Just now, he suddenly passed out.”

After finishing speaking, it observed Long Ling’s condition and hesitated, “Wait, Lord Long Ling… are you injured?”

Long Ling did not speak. Just now, he had noticed that something had happened to the Phoenix. Even if he had to be injured, he had to deliver a fatal blow to the golden dragon quickly.

And now, his Phoenix lay in his arms, eyes tightly closed, perhaps trapped in a nightmare, with a pained expression.

Long Ling lowered his head and gently rubbed Su Muluo’s soft face against his own ear, gently coaxing him until his Phoenix’s expression eased somewhat, then he lifted him up.

When the man stood up, his eyes were dark, like a sea about to set off a storm, so much so that even the spirit of the jade pendant felt fear.

It silently shrank back and returned to the jade pendant.

Ignoring it, Long Ling hugged his Phoenix and turned away.

Chapter 87 – The master is poisoned

Chapter 87 (Extra 10)

“Master.”

Yu Wuxia’s voice trembled as he looked steadily at Jiaheng.

Jiaheng’s face burned with heat, flushed with embarrassment. No, his entire body was flushed, his eyes shimmering with a watery glow, reflecting the flickering flames, inexplicably making his eyes appear dazzling and captivating, stirring the soul.

“You ungrateful disciple.” Jiaheng’s lips hesitated for a long time, racking his brains to come up with just this one reproachful phrase, “Turn me back now!”

“Master… it wasn’t me who changed you.” Yu Wuxia spread his hands, looking innocent.

“If it wasn’t you, then how… how did I end up like this?” Jiaheng saw Yu Wuxia moving closer to him. Instinctively, he retreated, wanting to put some distance between them. He didn’t know what he had bumped into, but suddenly a sharp pain came from his tailbone.

He instinctively let out an “ah” and shrank back, turning around to see an upright dried branch on the ground. The branch had pierced the skin near his tailbone, leaving a faint trace of blood.

Yu Wuxia also saw this, his expression changing slightly. He stepped forward to support Jiaheng’s arm. “Master, don’t move.”

Jiaheng, as if scalded, pushed Yu Wuxia’s hand away.

When Yu Wuxia got close, the aura surrounding him made Jiaheng’s heartbeat erratic, as if he was trapped, unable to breathe.

“Don’t come near me.”

Yu Wuxia had no choice but to say, “Alright, Master, I won’t come near you. But let me take a look at your injury first.”

Perhaps fearing Jiaheng would refuse, Yu Wuxia added a request difficult to decline, “Master, I’ll lend you my robe to cover yourself, so you won’t feel embarrassed.”

Jiaheng: “Is this robe conjured by magic?”

Yu Wuxia shook his head. “No, maybe when I transformed into a relic, I was wearing clothes, so the clothes remained after I changed form.”

Jiaheng said no more, took Yu Wuxia’s robe, and put it on. With a cold expression, he said, “Wipe your nosebleed.”

Yu Wuxia quickly lowered his head to wipe his nose, only then realizing that he was actually having a nosebleed!

He glanced awkwardly at Jiaheng. The loose-fitting robe clung to Jiaheng, outlining his slender figure. Since he didn’t give Jiaheng the trousers, Jiaheng’s two slender, toned calves were exposed under the hem.

Yu Wuxia swallowed hard, reluctantly shifting his gaze away. “Master, there are many poisonous trees in this mountain. I’m afraid you accidentally touched a poisonous branch just now. If you got poisoned by the tree sap, it could be life-threatening. Please let me check.”

Jiaheng originally didn’t believe Yu Wuxia, but the wound at his tailbone felt hot, with a faint stinging spreading out, indeed like signs of poisoning…

He blushed, his lips pressed tight, caught in a dilemma.

Yu Wuxia said, “Master, lie down. I’ll only check your wound, nothing else. Besides, we’re both men, we should be straightforward about this.”

Jiaheng felt reproached, as if his modesty implied he had ulterior motives. He couldn’t help but glare at Yu Wuxia. Unnoticed, Yu Wuxia had already moved closer, his long arms lightly encircling Jiaheng’s waist.

“Master, just lie down.”

Above his ear was a bewitching voice.

“I only need a quick look.”

Jiaheng believed him, lying down in Yu Wuxia’s arms, not noticing that at the moment he lay down, Yu Wuxia’s eyes filled with an inky black desire, his intense gaze practically materializing on Jiaheng’s waist.

He gently lifted the hem of the inner garment, seeing the raised lines below the tailbone, his breathing suddenly irregular, another nosebleed bursting forth. Calmly wiping it away, his gaze nearly greedy, inching upward, resting on the spot pierced by the branch.

The wound was rather coincidental.

Right below the tailbone.

He reached out, touching the wound, feeling Jiaheng’s body suddenly tense. He steadied his breath, “Master, don’t worry. This wound looks strange, turning black. The branch might indeed be poisonous.”

Jiaheng didn’t speak, trying to get up, but Yu Wuxia lightly pressed on his waist. He felt that wherever Yu Wuxia touched, it was particularly hot, even more so than the wound.

“Master, don’t move. Let me examine it further.”

Yu Wuxia bent down, his breath falling on the area above Jiaheng’s tailbone. Jiaheng’s breath hitched, his hands instinctively grasping, only to find he was holding Yu Wuxia’s trousers, quickly letting go.

Behind him, Yu Wuxia’s voice sounded again.

“This black blood is indeed poison. I need to help you suck it out.”

“…” Jiaheng.

Before Jiaheng could react, Yu Wuxia’s lips descended. Jiaheng felt as if scalded, wanting to get up, but Yu Wuxia held down the back of his neck.

With just one wrist, he couldn’t move.

His head was pressed against Yu Wuxia’s leg. Yu Wuxia bent down, focused on “sucking” out the poison.

He could even feel the shape of the other’s full lips, like peach blossom petals, opening and closing on that nearly hidden spot.

Inexplicably, his body trembled, eyes filling with tears, his throat choked with words of refusal that couldn’t come out.

If only… if only he had known he needed to continue cultivating, he wouldn’t have ended up like this, utterly unable to resist.

A bizarre thought flashed through his mind: if Yu Wuxia decided to use force now, he wouldn’t be able to stop him.

Yu Wuxia saw the redness all over Jiaheng’s body and his own eyes turned red as well. He forced himself to look away from the swelling at the base of Jiaheng’s spine.

The wound was initially small, but after a few licks, it had become swollen and red. Of course, there was no poison. The branch wasn’t poisonous either; Yu Wuxia had only used it to scare Jiaheng.

To make Jiaheng believe him, Yu Wuxia even cast a spell to make the wound feel like it was burning.

He had deceived Jiaheng, not just about this, but also about having regained a portion of his cultivation after taking on human form. Simple spells were within his capability.

But he couldn’t let Jiaheng know now, or Jiaheng would give him the cold shoulder again.

Seeing it was enough, he released Jiaheng’s hem. “Master, it’s done.”

Jiaheng sat up, his hands pressed against Yu Wuxia’s chest, feeling the defined, strong muscles that seemed to twitch under his touch. Startled, he quickly pulled his hands back.

Somehow, all the strength seemed to leave his body, and he collapsed back into Yu Wuxia’s embrace.

Yu Wuxia chuckled softly, “Master, in the human world, this would be called ‘throwing yourself into someone’s arms.'”

“You… stop talking nonsense.” Jiaheng’s face turned red, and he could only manage this one sentence.

Yu Wuxia smiled, supporting Jiaheng. If he had known that his master’s cold demeanor was due to his lack of eloquence, he would have used words to conquer him long ago.

“Master, your dizziness is because the poison hasn’t been completely extracted. I need to help you draw it out once a day until it’s all gone.”

Jiaheng pulled his robe tighter, his brow furrowing as he looked at Yu Wuxia suspiciously.

He felt Yu Wuxia was deceiving him, taking advantage of him, but when he met Yu Wuxia’s “honest and upright” gaze, he felt like he was being paranoid.

After all, what was there to covet in that place?

Jiaheng asked, “Isn’t there a way to remove the poison all at once?”

“No, so it’s better for me to check on you daily, Master.”

Jiaheng said no more. The spot where the branch had pierced him didn’t feel like an ordinary wound; it burned, as if some toxin remained.

He bit his lip, uncertain, and asked again, “You really haven’t regained your cultivation?”

“Mm,” Yu Wuxia replied confidently.

He usually couldn’t lie in front of Jiaheng, but now his lust had emboldened him, making him unusually calm.

“Then how did I suddenly return to human form?” Jiaheng muttered to himself, puzzled.

After becoming a tiger, he had no desire to cultivate back into human form.

When Yu Wuxia fell into the demonic path, the Immortal had warned Jiaheng that form is emptiness, and emptiness is form. By losing form, one loses desire and thought.

So Jiaheng believed his human face caused Yu Wuxia’s wicked thoughts. He transformed into an aged figure, later a tiger, which he accepted and no longer cared about appearances.

Yu Wuxia reassured him, “Master, you were once an Immortal of the Thirty-Three Heavens. Your transformation is different from an ordinary tiger’s. You don’t need to worry. Whether in tiger or human form, your true nature remains the same. Master, you shouldn’t be troubled by this.”

“…” Jiaheng.

He hadn’t expected to be lectured by his disciple one day. He shot a glance at Yu Wuxia, turned his back to him, and closed his eyes, unwilling to engage further.

Suddenly, something came to mind, and he reluctantly said, “I heard you. I’m sleepy.”

He feared that if he didn’t respond, Yu Wuxia would kiss him again.

Yu Wuxia’s voice echoed in the cave, tinged with amusement, “Alright.” After a pause, Yu Wuxia added, “Master, sleep well.”

Jiaheng didn’t actually sleep well. His mind was chaotic, unable to shake off the image of Yu Wuxia kissing his tailbone.

He didn’t feel repulsed; rather, it felt tingly and numb, reminding him of the black panther Yu Wuxia once transformed into in the Thirty-Three Heavens.

He also remembered their time doing good deeds in the human world, how Yu Wuxia held his hand when they descended the mountain.

He thought about many things—growing clarity in his affection, unresolved mysteries.

The next morning, when Yu Wuxia woke up, he saw Jiaheng standing outside the cave, blending into the white mist.

Yu Wuxia’s heart tightened. He approached and called out, “Master.”

Jiaheng responded, looking up at the mist-covered morning light, “Follow me.”

Yu Wuxia didn’t ask any questions and followed Jiaheng down the mountain. The two walked in silence until noon, when Jiaheng finally stopped.

Looking at the calm river before him, Yu Wuxia suddenly remembered this place.

It was where they first descended the mountain to do good deeds, and where his faith in the Immortal first wavered.

“Do you remember the father who was trapped in a cycle because he saved his daughter in the flood instead of the pregnant woman?”

“Yes.”

“I told you that once you advanced in your cultivation, you’d understand the reason. But it became a knot in your heart instead.”

Hearing this, Yu Wuxia’s face reddened slightly.

Jiaheng sighed, “You only saw the father’s plight and felt indignant for him, but you didn’t see the entanglement between the father and the pregnant woman. Initially, the father brought his daughter here to escape a plague. It was they who spread the disease. The villagers despised them and drove them into the forest. Only the pregnant woman, occasionally kind, brought them food.”

“Later, when the flood came, the father and daughter were trapped in a landslide. It was the pregnant woman who brought them to the shore. But as the floodwaters rose, the bridge collapsed, and the pregnant woman and the man’s daughter both fell into the water.”

“The man didn’t save the pregnant woman, who was within reach, but instead swam to the center of the lake to save his daughter. That’s why the pregnant woman’s resentment was so strong—it trapped the man because she just wanted him to save her once.”

Yu Wuxia looked up at the calm surface of the lake. The resentment had dissipated. It seemed that after countless cycles, the father finally had an epiphany and broke the pregnant woman’s curse.

Or perhaps it was the pregnant woman who let go.

In this world, good deeds don’t always yield good outcomes.

They both needed to let go.

Only by letting go could they be reborn.

Chapter 86 – Really a wicked person

Chapter 86 (Extra 9)

Yu Wuxia didn’t dare to hold down Jia Heng directly, so he pretended to twist his ankle and fell onto Jia Heng.

The tiger groaned as he was hit, his black eyes half-closed, seemingly looking at Yu Wuxia with some disdain.

Yu Wuxia didn’t get off the tiger. Instead, he took hold of the tiger’s two front paws, staring intently at him.

The tiger felt embarrassed and avoided his gaze.

Yu Wuxia asked, “Master, why won’t you look at me?”

The tiger ground his teeth but said nothing.

Yu Wuxia’s Adam’s apple moved slightly as he swallowed. He leaned down, his breath scattering on the tiger’s face, and kissed the tiger’s furry face.

The tiger’s eyes widened instantly, his black pupils shrinking in shock, staring at Yu Wuxia like black beans.

How… how could he kiss him!

Such frivolous behavior!

Yu Wuxia swallowed again. “Master, I told you before, if you don’t respond when I ask you something, I’ll kiss you until you do.”

Jia Heng had probably never heard such shameless words before, his chest shaking with anger as he exposed sharp claws, ready to swat Yu Wuxia away.

Yu Wuxia quickly said, “Master, I just formed my human shape. If you hit me with your paw, I might revert to my original form.” To see Jia Heng sooner, he didn’t dare to slack off for even a moment while cultivating as a relic, allowing him to come out seven years earlier than planned.

Jia Heng’s movements froze upon hearing this, though the anger in his eyes didn’t diminish, and he let out a threatening growl.

“Master, if you want to scold me, just say it directly. Don’t express it with your eyes.

Otherwise, no matter how long you glare at me, I won’t know what you’re saying.”

Yu Wuxia spoke “honestly,” still not getting up, pressing down on Jia Heng and feeling his clean, smooth fur through the layer of clothes.

Even though there was a layer of clothing, the fur felt very good to touch.

Master is perfect in every way.

When in tiger form, his fur is smooth. In human form, his lips are red, and his teeth are white.

Jia Heng closed his eyes, initially not wanting to deal with this troublesome disciple, but remembering his disciple’s threat, he reluctantly spoke, “Let go of me.”

No matter how dissatisfied he was with Yu Wuxia, Jia Heng had cultivated to become an Immortal for many years and had never uttered a curse word.

Yu Wuxia noticed his master speaking, the corner of his mouth twitching slightly. As long as his master spoke, it was good enough for him.

Even if it was to scold him.

He released Jia Heng, who immediately stood up, shaking the dirt off his body and letting out another low growl to show his displeasure.

Yu Wuxia took a step forward, reaching out to touch Jia Heng, who turned abruptly, pretending to bite his finger, intending to scare him away.

But to his surprise, Yu Wuxia’s arm didn’t dodge, and his teeth sank into Yu Wuxia’s finger. He quickly let go, but it was too late. Yu Wuxia’s index and middle fingers were skinned, his teeth reaching the bone, and blood gushed out.

Jia Heng opened his mouth, his face full of tiger fur showing no emotion, but inexplicably giving off a sense of guilt.

Why… didn’t Yu Wuxia dodge?

Yu Wuxia clutched his fingers, tears welling up in his eyes from either pain or sadness, biting his lip as he looked at Jia Heng.

Jia Heng met his gaze, feeling more and more guilty.

He had just wanted to scare him.

“Master, your teeth are very sharp.”

Yu Wuxia didn’t complain much, just this simple sentence made Jia Heng’s previous dissatisfaction vanish, leaving only guilt.

Jia Heng said, “Why didn’t you dodge?”

Yu Wuxia held back his joy, for his master had voluntarily spoken to him again. He put on a facade of toughness, “Master, I’m currently without cultivation, weaker than an ordinary person, I couldn’t dodge.”

Jia Heng’s lips moved slightly, and after a moment of silence, he said, “The herbs you ground earlier, apply them to your wound when you return.”

“Okay.”

Yu Wuxia followed behind, his eyes burning as he looked at Jia Heng, his gaze filled with madness and possessiveness, never waning.

As he followed, his body suddenly lost control and turned into a relic, falling to the ground.

Jia Heng noticed the lack of presence behind him, turned around, and lowered his head to find the grayish-brown relic in the grassy field. Due to his finger injury, there was a tiny scratch on one corner of the relic.

A moment of stillness passed through Jia Heng’s eyes as he picked up the relic with his mouth and returned to the cave.

He placed the relic down, surprised to see it turn completely red, the redness almost bleeding, making him study it carefully.

How strange.

The relic could change color.

Was something wrong?

He leaned in, his breath lightly touching the relic, seeing it turn even redder, almost bleeding. He guessed it might be stained with blood from Yu Wuxia’s injury.

But how could such a small wound bleed so much?

Jia Heng couldn’t figure it out, feeling a bit guilty, saying, “Cultivate well, apply the medicine yourself once you return to human form.”

After saying this, he turned away, no longer looking at the relic.

That night, he couldn’t help but turn his head occasionally to check the relic, wondering when Yu Wuxia would transform.

Until the next evening, the relic hadn’t transformed, but the strange red color had faded.

He had no heart for hunting, staying in the cave, already a day and night without Yu Wuxia transforming. Could that bite have seriously hurt Yu Wuxia?

He got up to check the relic again, focusing on it, discovering that the relic was turning red again, initially with spots of red, gradually merging into patches.

Jia Heng clicked his tongue, guessing this wasn’t an injury, but an expression of Yu Wuxia’s emotions.

Was it blushing?

Realizing this, Jia Heng felt uneasy, letting out a low growl, turning away from Yu Wuxia again. When he had brought the relic back yesterday, it was completely red, probably because…

Jia Heng’s face turned red too, with a faint heat.

Feeling unsettled, he shook his fur and ran out, dashing and leaping through the forest, trying to suppress or vent something. The moonlight filtered through, like thin fog floating in the forest, as he weaved through the mist, running over rocky hills, never stopping.

The wind howled in his ears, as if chasing him.

He squinted his eyes and ran to the top of the mountain. Only then did he stop, standing at the peak, facing the fierce night wind. The strange irritability in his heart hadn’t subsided; instead, it had grown stronger. His mind involuntarily drifted to Yu Wuxia.

The tiger sighed helplessly, crouching on the ground like a bewildered big cat.

It wasn’t until dawn, after finishing the hunt, that the tiger returned to the cave.

As soon as he entered the cave, he bumped into a tall, slender man. The tiger paused, avoiding his gaze. The man wasn’t wearing a cassock, just a thin white robe that clung to his body.

He bent down and patted the tiger’s head. The tiger, feeling as if his reverse scale had been touched, roared angrily to intimidate him.

“Master, where did you go?”

The tiger didn’t want to respond, turning his head to rest on the stone bed, but Yu Wuxia grabbed his ear. Hugging the tiger’s neck, he kissed the tiger’s forehead, looking into his confused and even terrified eyes.

“…,” the tiger thought.

“Master, where did you go?” Yu Wuxia repeated slowly, turning the tiger’s head to face him. His rosy lips moved as he spoke, so close that the tiger could feel his breath.

The tiger was really angry, not understanding how someone could be so shameless. Seeing Yu Wuxia leaning in for another kiss, the tiger reluctantly said, “Hunting.”

“Oh.” Yu Wuxia’s eyes curved with a warm smile. “Master, you don’t need to hunt anymore. I’ll make food for you.”

Yu Wuxia turned around, and only then did the tiger notice the pile of firewood inside the cave, with two flints nearby, a small fire slowly burning, and a plucked wild chicken roasting on a spit.

While expertly roasting the chicken, Yu Wuxia said mysteriously, “Master, don’t you think this wild chicken looks like the Demon Lord’s true form?”

“…,” Jiaheng thought.

He didn’t expect that after all this time, Yu Wuxia still remembered the Demon Lord.

Jiaheng, afraid of the fire, kept his distance. “Do you still want revenge on him?”

“No.” Yu Wuxia smiled, flames dancing in his eyes. “I’ve won so many times; it’s time to let him win once.”

Though he said this, Yu Wuxia felt that losing once outweighed winning a thousand times.

Only after losing did he realize that his master cared for him too.

After finishing roasting the chicken, Yu Wuxia handed it to Jiaheng. Jiaheng said, “I’m not hungry, you eat.”

“I’m currently in my true form; I don’t need food. What I need is…”

“What?” Jiaheng asked, biting into the chicken.

“The essence of a man.”

“Ugh.”

The tiger coughed violently, his chest trembling and his back twitching. Yu Wuxia gently patted his back, his voice husky in the dim light, “Master, you’re the best.”

“Yu Wuxia!”

The tiger glared at him, unaware that a piece of chicken was stuck to his fur, making his angry expression oddly comical.

Yu Wuxia’s eyes darkened, and he leaned in, licking the chicken off the tiger’s mouth, smiling deeply, “Everything Master eats becomes especially delicious.”

“…,” Jiaheng thought.

Jiaheng wanted to slap him away but held back upon seeing his pale face.

“Master, can you transform into a human? You’re always in tiger form, and it’s a bit inconvenient for me.”

“What inconvenience?” Jiaheng asked coldly.

“Just some inconvenience.” Yu Wuxia noticed that his master’s thoughts were now influenced by him, calming his excitement, and hugged the tiger’s neck.

The tiger’s body suddenly stiffened.

“It’s inconvenient to get close to you.” Yu Wuxia’s gaze lowered, his long eyelashes almost brushing against the tiger’s fur. The tiger, uncomfortable, struggled to push him away, but in the next moment, the tiger suddenly transformed into human form.

Jiaheng wasn’t tall, but his figure was thin and delicate, with fair skin and a youthful face. Suddenly transforming from a tiger to a human, he was completely naked.

Every inch of his white skin was exposed, illuminated by the flickering firelight, like a veil of firelight.

Jiaheng hadn’t seen himself in human form for a long time. Upon seeing himself, he instinctively curled up, trying to cover his naked body, but there was nothing in the cave.

He had to cross his arms over his chest, glaring angrily at Yu Wuxia.

Yu Wuxia, at this moment, was staring intently at Jiaheng, with blood slowly trickling from his nostrils.

“…,” Jiaheng thought.

What a wicked disciple.

Truly a wicked disciple.

Chapter 85 – Ignored and kissed

Chapter 85 (Extra 8)

Jiaheng didn’t say anything, turning his head as if he hadn’t noticed the person behind him. His breathing grew heavier, and even his steps became heavier.

He hadn’t expected Yu Wuxia’s cultivation to progress so quickly. It was supposed to take ten years to take human form, but now it had only taken three.

Yu Wuxia must have already taken human form days ago, but he had been hiding it, deliberately deceiving him.

The person behind him remained silent for a moment, then slowly followed the tiger into the cave.

The light inside the cave was dim, as if stained by ink. The tiger lay down on a stone platform, as if sulking, without saying a word.

Yu Wuxia, pale-faced, sat opposite the tiger, admitting his mistake.

“Master, I didn’t mean to deceive you. I can only return to human form for one moment each day, so I didn’t tell you.”

In fact, he was afraid that if he told his master he had already taken human form, his master would abandon him.

He didn’t know his master’s current attitude towards him, so he had to be extremely cautious.

Jiaheng finally raised his eyes to look at him, his eyelids drooping, his expression hidden by the dense tiger fur on his face. “You still retain your previous memories?”

“Yes…” Yu Wuxia didn’t want to admit it, but under Jiaheng’s gaze, he couldn’t help but tell the truth.

It seemed he was always like this, unable to hide anything when facing Jiaheng.

Even though the person in front of him was no longer the lofty Immortal but just a tiger, his reverence for him remained unchanged.

Jiaheng had thought that once the relic cultivated back into human form, it would forget the past and turn into a baby, so he could take good care of it and be honest with Yu Wuxia.

But unexpectedly, Yu Wuxia remembered everything.

So…he really didn’t know what to say or what could be said.

The tiger felt a bit reclusive.

The reclusive tiger then put on a cold and aloof demeanor, ignoring Yu Wuxia. After asking this question, he turned his head and lay on the cool stone, lightly dozing.

Yu Wuxia opened his mouth but was speechless. He didn’t know what his master’s reaction meant and was too scared to breathe heavily, afraid that his master would find a fault and drive him away.

A quarter of an hour later, Yu Wuxia’s body transformed back into a relic with a “bang” and fell to the ground.

Jiaheng opened his eyes, looked at the relic on the ground without any emotion, picked it up with his mouth, and placed it on the stone platform.

When he turned around, he didn’t notice that the originally gray-brown relic had inexplicably turned red.

Even though his master had become a tiger, his mouth was still soft, and his tongue was also soft, seeming very kissable.

Yu Wuxia was delighted, and the silver light surrounding him began to flicker with joy.

Jiaheng walked out of the cave. The night was the best time for a tiger to hunt, with its senses particularly sharp. He lay in wait near the stream, waiting for prey to come for a drink.

Moonlight shone on the stream, reflecting shimmering waves. Occasionally, a fish would leap out of the water, seemingly playing joyfully. Usually, birds and beasts would come to drink by the stream, but tonight, despite lying in wait for a long time, Jiaheng didn’t see any prey. Tonight was indeed unlucky.

He returned with an empty stomach, not realizing that his erratic breathing while hiding in the grass had scared off the nearby animals.

It seemed that ever since he saw Yu Wuxia, he couldn’t calm down, though he hadn’t noticed it himself.

Fortunately, on the way back, he found a wild chicken killed by a previous beast’s hunt. He picked up the uneaten flesh and bones, barely filling his stomach.

The tiger returned to the cave but didn’t go in. Instead, he lay at the entrance, with fallen leaves and weeds perfectly covering his body.

He closed his eyes and fell asleep in the tranquility.

He didn’t know how long he had slept when he was awakened by the sound of grinding medicine. Raising his head, he first saw the wildly growing weeds, with golden sunlight streaming through, slightly dazzling.

The tiger lowered his eyelids and looked towards the sound, seeing Yu Wuxia grinding medicine with a stone.

Earlier, Yu Wuxia had stopped the bleeding on the tiger’s paw but hadn’t dared to apply medicine, fearing the tiger would discover his identity. But now that the tiger knew, he took the opportunity to gather herbs and grind them into powder to apply to the tiger’s paw.

“Master, have you lost all your cultivation?”

The tiger didn’t refuse his actions of applying the medicine nor did he respond, looking away into the distance.

Yu Wuxia awkwardly lowered his head. Perhaps due to his higher cultivation, he could now maintain his human form for longer periods. After applying the medicine, he asked, “Master, who hurt you?”

Jiaheng still didn’t speak. At that moment, a familiar scent of blood wafted through the forest. Jiaheng narrowed his eyes, his agile body leaping forward like the wind.

Yu Wuxia quickly followed behind, reaching a dense forest area with his master.

They saw a tigress trapped in a hunter’s trap, her back pierced by a blade, lying in the mud unable to move.

A tiger was trying to claw at the tigress, but couldn’t reach her, and instead, lost his balance and fell into the trap, his paw and chest pierced by knives, letting out a howl of pain.

Jiaheng circled the trap, the tiger inside growling menacingly, thinking Jiaheng was there to take advantage.

Jiaheng observed the tigers’ injuries. They were both trapped by knives and couldn’t move. He looked around, trying to find something useful, but there were only dead branches and leaves.

Yu Wuxia sensed Jiaheng’s blood on the tiger and glanced at the unhealed wound on its chest, realizing that this tiger had injured Jiaheng.

And now, Jiaheng wanted to save them.

Without asking, Yu Wuxia found a stone and threw it into the trap. The tiger initially endured the pain, pulling itself from the knives, protecting the tigress behind him, and growling at Yu Wuxia, trying to intimidate him.

When Yu Wuxia realized that the stones he had thrown hadn’t harmed the tigers, the male tiger’s roaring gradually subsided. The female tiger, despite the pain, pulled herself off the knife’s tip. Fortunately, the knife hadn’t damaged her vital organs, only piercing the skin on her back.

Seeing this, the male tiger immediately began licking the female tiger’s wounds, and she reciprocated by licking his.

Yu Wuxia, having stacked the stones sufficiently, watched the tigers licking each other’s wounds and estimated that they could climb out of the trap. He stopped throwing stones.

He looked at Jiaheng with a sense of accomplishment, his eyes conveying a desire for praise.

However, as usual, Jiaheng didn’t say much. His tail flicked slightly, and without even making eye contact with Yu Wuxia, he turned and left.

Yu Wuxia glanced at the tigers still engrossed in their mutual affection and then followed Jiaheng.

He felt a bit envious of the tigers, able to groom each other and express their affection, while he couldn’t even get his master to talk to him.

Could it really be as Si Lan said, that his master disliked him because of his bad temperament and inability to speak well?

Just as Yu Wuxia was deep in thought, his body suddenly underwent a change. He didn’t even have time to call out to his master before transforming into a relic and falling to the ground.

The last thing he saw was the ground covered in fallen leaves and Jiaheng’s receding figure.

Yu Wuxia felt a pang of sadness. He couldn’t move or speak now. The air around him was filled with the scent of earth, and with the wind blowing leaves everywhere, he feared that if he was covered by leaves, his master might not find him for a while.

As he was lamenting his situation, he suddenly sensed a shadow overhead, nearly blocking out the sky. In the next moment, something soft and warm enveloped him, picking him up in its mouth.

The breath from the other’s mouth was hot and engulfed his entire being.

The relic inexplicably began to glow red.

Master… Master had realized he had turned into a relic so quickly.

So, his master did care about him, just pretended not to.

Realizing this, the “red stains” on the relic floated gently, as if excited blood was coursing through them.

The tiger, naturally unaware of the relic’s changes, brought it back and then lay down on the stone platform to rest.

The relic focused intently on the tiger, and if his gaze could kill, the tiger would have long been dismantled and devoured.

His master, now in the form of a tiger, seemed kind-hearted but had lost his Buddhist compassion and no longer pursued cultivation, appearing content to remain an ordinary tiger.

Yu Wuxia hazily thought that if he wanted to be with his master in the future, he would have to take the form of a tiger.

He couldn’t help but recall the scene of the two tigers in the trap showing affection, causing the relic to glow even redder.

If his master would let him help groom him, he’d be willing to remain a tiger for a lifetime.

But now, his master wouldn’t even talk to him…

His master was so reserved, never saying much. How could he always guess what his master was thinking?

Perhaps he should follow the unreliable advice of that demon lord.

With this thought, Yu Wuxia felt much happier, and the relic seemed to move, almost like it was about to spin and leap.

Jiaheng, hearing the noise, glanced at the relic. After a moment of silence, he tucked his tail under himself, covering what needed to be covered.

Though he couldn’t hear the relic’s laughter, he could sense it was probably laughing mischievously.

“…” Yu Wuxia.

The next day, after Yu Wuxia transformed back into human form, he didn’t find Jiaheng in the cave, so he hurried out to search for him.

Lacking much cultivation, he could only rely on faint traces of aura to track Jiaheng, finding him slowly drinking water by a stream.

Yu Wuxia approached, but Jiaheng didn’t react, continuing to drink water.

Yu Wuxia thought to himself that his master had probably become so used to being an Immortal that he had lost all vigilance. Even when he got close, there was no reaction.

The tiger, after drinking, instinctively shook its fur and turned to see Yu Wuxia washing his face in the stream.

The tiger seemed to pause for a moment but still said nothing. As it turned to leave, Yu Wuxia’s voice rang out behind him.

“Master, I have many things I want to tell you.”

The tiger’s steps faltered slightly before continuing.

Undeterred, Yu Wuxia followed, saying, “Master, you said before that you did four things wrong regarding me. But I never thought you did anything wrong, nor did I ever blame you.”

The tiger, guessing what Yu Wuxia was about to say but not wanting to hear it, sped up, moving gracefully through the forest.

Once the veil was lifted, he knew what awaited them. He wasn’t resistant but wanted to retreat.

Or rather, he wanted to maintain the current situation.

Isn’t this just fine as it is?

Why do people always need to dig deeper?

Yu Wuxia, undeterred, chased after him, shamelessly saying, “Master, after turning into a relic, I’ve reflected on many things. I was too extreme back then, trying to change the six realms for my own sake.”

“I always thought you didn’t value me, that you hated me. But after reflecting, I understood your dilemma. For someone who tried to destroy your cultivation but claimed to love you, not killing him was already lenient.”

“But back then, I was foolish and couldn’t understand your good intentions. I forced you to be with me. If I had been smarter and understood your heart, we wouldn’t have ended up like this.”

The running tiger, hearing Yu Wuxia’s nonsense, couldn’t help but growl and glare back at him.

What nonsense was he spouting?

Why did it sound like they had long been secretly in love?

“Master, don’t ignore me. It makes me very sad.”

Jiaheng hadn’t expected Yu Wuxia to suddenly “act spoiled,” and almost stumbled.

This person was getting crazier.

The tiger ran out of the forest and into the fields, with Yu Wuxia chasing close behind.

He shouted, “If you won’t respond to me, I’ll kiss you every time you ignore me until you speak.”

“…”

Hearing this, the tiger slipped and fell into a ditch.

In the next instant, Yu Wuxia’s figure pounced, pinning the tiger into the dirt.
