Chapter 31

Suo Yang was always the one the others changed shifts to, and everyone liked to ask him for help when they were unable to fly because they know that he was single, free and easy to talk to.

In fact, everyone remembered how good he was, so when he was looking for someone to change shifts, everyone raised their hands and said they could do it.

Suo Yang was a very dedicated person. He never thought that one day he would change shifts for a date, but it was a bit lovely to have something to look forward to in life because the morning he opened his eyes to get ready for his date, he was in a good mood that his whole body felt refreshed.

It was a beautiful day at the end of September.

Suo Yang opened the curtains and saw the light blue sky at a glance, empty and clean, high and vast.

He stood in front of the window and stretched, then turned his head to glance at the small alarm clock on the table.

At a quarter past six in the morning, he opened the window.

Suo Yang opened the window to ventilate and then went into the bathroom by himself.

At nine o’clock, he was going to Shen Huiming’s 24-hour date. From nine o’clock today to nine o’clock tomorrow morning, and who knows what would happen between them in those 24 hours.

Suo Yang had never expected romance, but Shen Huiming had brought him a lot of romance in an invisible way.

For example, at this moment, as he stood under the shower, he was thinking about someone, which was also a kind of romance.

When Suo Yang walked out of the bathroom and returned to the room, he turned on the stereo which automatically played the song he had listened to before going to bed the night before—’Berlin’, which Shen Huiming had recommended to him.

He walked to the closet, opened the sliding door, looked at the rows of clothes hanging inside, and thought for a long time but didn’t know which one to wear.

He sat on the opposite bed and crossed his legs in a daze until the song ended, and the single started again. On a whim, he took a photo of his wardrobe with his mobile phone and sent it to Shen Huiming.

Suo Yang asked Shen Huiming: Which one do you want me to wear?

When he received the message, Shen Huiming was sitting on the balcony, drinking coffee while working on his work.

He had been woken up by Jiang Tongyan’s phone call at four o’clock and had been forced to get up to have a video conference, after which he had some remaining work to finish.

He put down his coffee cup, clicked on the picture, and smiled.

In fact, all of Suo Yang’s clothes were in the same style. When he changed out of his uniform, he mostly wore dark shirts. Shen Huiming remembered that the light shirt Suo Yang wore that night in Moscow was not in it, and it must have been sent to the laundry.

He liked to see Suo Yang wearing light-coloured clothes. The light-coloured clothes made the man more clear and bright.

Shen Huiming didn’t directly help him decide which one to wear but said: Going on a date is all about being spontaneous and choosing what you like best.

Suo Yang chuckled as he looked at the message, got off the bed, and quickly changed his clothes.

He wore a light grey pinstriped casual shirt, and a white T-shirt inside.

Everything was ready, but it was still very early.

Suo Yang was lying on his bed listening to a song, feeling so relaxed for the first time in his life.

===

At exactly nine o’clock, Suo Yang went downstairs, but Shen Huiming was already waiting downstairs.

Suo Yang asked, “When did you come? Why didn’t you call me?”

Shen Huiming pulled open the door of the passenger seat for him, “The appointment was at nine o’clock, I should have waited peacefully if I had come early.”

He arrived fifteen minutes early. After all, it was morning rush hour, so he was afraid of being late due to traffic jams.

When it comes to a date, punctuality was important.

Shen Huiming didn’t want to be late for the first date. Because in this case, there would probably be no second time.

Perhaps it was a tacit understanding, or perhaps Shen Huiming spied something from the photos that Suo Yang had sent earlier, the two of them were surprisingly dressed to complement each other a bit today, both in shirts and T-shirts and Shen Huiming, who was usually calm and steady, also wore jeans for a rare occasion.

Both of them were tall and long-legged handsome guys, with good figures and good looks. When they stood there, all the passers-by would take a second look.

When Suo Yang got into the car and fastened his seat belt, he asked Shen Huiming, “Where is the first stop?”

“Breakfast.” Shen Huiming started the car and drove Suo Yang out of the neighbourhood.

Before this date started, Suo Yang had made some assumptions.

He thought that a person like Shen Huiming would arrange an exquisite and expensive itinerary, but what he didn’t expect was that the breakfast shop Shen Huiming took him to was just a small shop outside an old neighbourhood, and even the breakfast shop did not even have its own name. There was only a plaque with red letters on a white background that read—Breakfast Fast Food.

       Suo Yang was somewhat surprised.

When the two stood at the door, Shen Huiming explained, “Although the shop looks small and old, the hygiene conditions are very good, so don’t worry about eating.”

Suo Yang smiled, “I don’t mind about that.”

He followed Shen Huiming in, “I just don’t quite understand what’s the need to drive so far to this one specifically.”

       Because it tastes so good?

“Because I grew up eating breakfast here.” Shen Huiming led him to a seat by the window and pulled out a chair for him to sit in. “You sit first, I’ll go and order.”

Suo Yang nodded, sat obediently and waited for Shen Huiming.

“By the way,” Shen Huiming asked him, “Is there anything you should avoid?”

“No.” Suo Yang said, “I like everything that tastes good.”

Shen Huiming smiled, “Good. At least we are the same in this regard.”

After nine o’clock, the peak dining period of the breakfast restaurant had passed, and all the office workers had already left for their workplaces. Even if there were still people queuing up to order, they were all for takeaways and there were not many people dining in. So Suo Yang who sat by the window could directly see Shen Huiming standing in line.

Among the customers in the row, Shen Huiming was the tallest one.

       He stood out a lot.

Suo Yang looked at his back, watched him wait patiently, and watched him turn around to look at himself after answering a phone call.

The two men looked at each other and Suo Yang smiled at him, to which the other man responded with a smile that was almost like exchanging feelings across the air.

When Shen Huiming came back, he was holding the plate in both hands. Suo Yang hurriedly got up and wanted to help him up, but after he gave it some thought, he felt it was unnecessary, so he stood there waiting for the other party to come over, and said, “Thanks for your hard work.”

Shen Huiming ordered two plates of small buns with different fillings, a bowl of millet congee for each person, and a few small dishes.

“It’s a very simple meal.” Shen Huiming said, “But this is the most important memory I have growing up.”

He told Suo Yang, “At that time, after setting a date with you I thought I had to bring you here to experience it, but the food actually tasted really good.”

It had been a long time since Suo Yang had been out for breakfast. Because of irregular work and rest after work, breakfast was basically what was served in the airport’s canteen, which was actually quite hearty, but it really didn’t feel the same sitting here.

       “You live around here?”

“I lived here when I was a kid,” Shen Huiming said, “and only moved away in my third year of high school.”

Suo Yang put a small steamed stuffed bun into his bowl and recalled the nearby neighbourhood that he just saw.

Because Shen Huiming was doing well in his career, Suo Yang subconsciously thought that he was a rich second generation and had the help of his family, but now it seemed that he had been narrow-minded.

“When I was young, my parents were busy at work. Both of them worked in the hospital, and they often had no time to take care of me. I basically ate three meals a day outside.”

Suo Yang listened quietly as Shen Huiming told him about himself, this feeling of leisurely and comfortable talking about the past made him feel comfortable.

“Back then, my family used to settle my breakfast bill with the owner of this shop on a monthly basis,” Shen Huiming recalled the incident when he was a child that he still found interesting now, “I can get up early enough to eat here before going to school, but you know how students are. I don’t even want to get up and often just packed it up and took them to the classroom to eat. The buns smell good, and I get caught every time I sneak a bun in the morning study.”

Suo Yang laughed, “I didn’t expect you to do this kind of thing when you were in school.”

“You too?” Shen Huiming said, “It’s not like that, I thought you were one of those extraordinarily well-behaved honours students.”

“When I was in the third year of high school, I was caught by my homeroom teacher sneaking hot and spicy food with my classmates in the evening study. Suo Yang smiled, “So let’s say we are no better than the other.”

Their student days were already far away, more than ten years ago in fact, but as they exchanged embarrassing and cute moments of their adolescence, they both felt that the person in front of them had become more vivid and real.

The good breakfast not only filled Suo Yang’s stomach but also made him feel comfortable. He should have felt tired after flying for more than ten hours the day before, but during his time with Shen Huiming, not only he didn’t feel tired but also rarely relaxed.

He recalled a theory he had read a long time ago, which said that certain types of emotions actually had a similar effect to pills, which could stimulate certain nerves and activate certain human cells.

This so-called ‘certain type of emotions’ was called ‘love’.

For the time being, Suo Yang was not sure that his love for Shen Huiming was confirmed, but at least he had a good impression of this person, and because he had a good impression, he was willing to continue to spend time with him.

It was past ten o’clock when they came out of the breakfast shop.

Time seemed to fly by, just one breakfast and an hour or so had already passed.

       “Where is the next stop?”

“Tsk,” Shen Huiming stretched at the door of the breakfast shop, and then said to him with a smile in his eyes, “Can we not be so formal? You’re asking a question like you’re trying to clear a game. “

       “Then how should I ask?”

Shen Huiming thought for a while and said, “You should say this.”

He cleared his throat and tried to imitate Suo Yang, “Huiming, we have eaten to our heart’s content and the weather is so nice now, shall we go for a walk?”

Although the imitation failed, he still made Suo Yang laugh.

“Even though I said you’re mine for 24 hours today, the truth is, all of your time is not always at my disposal.” Shen Huiming walked slowly and leisurely forward with Suo Yang, “Going one stop at a time to complete a task, that’s not called a date. A date should be relaxed, spontaneous, a sudden whim when you are on it and it’s a combination of everything you have to do. You’ve only given me 24 hours, your time is mine, but I’m yours, and I can accompany you to do whatever you want. Of course, I will also balance my selfishness in this process and let you accompany me to do something I want to do.”

The two of them walked side by side along the pavement, aimlessly moving forward.

Suo Yang was moved by Shen Huiming’s words.

Your time is mine, but I’m yours.

He had to admit that Shen Huiming was an expert, and he couldn’t resist such a person.

“Okay.” Suo Yang said, “Then you can walk with me on the street and bask in the sun.”

Sometimes, a casual walk on the street was also enjoyable.

Hai Zi1Hai Zi is the pen name of the Chinese poet Zha Haisheng. He was one of the most famous poets in Mainland China after the Cultural Revolution.‘s famous saying, ‘You have come to earth to see the sun and to walk in the streets with your beloved.’ completely turned an aimless walk under the sun into a romanticism of love.

Neither Shen Huiming nor Suo Yang was people who had extra time for walking. With their fast-paced lives and irregular work schedules, they didn’t even have enough time to rest. Rather than saying that they seemed to be sitting on a high-speed train, it was better to say they were the train itself, and the so-called “passengers” in the train were the burdens they carried, burdens that made them unable and afraid to stop.

In the end, this was a common problem faced by every adult who had to work hard to make ends meet in this society.

Therefore, on the rare occasion that he completely dropped everything and went out on a date, Shen Huiming made some arrangements with his assistant in advance and repeatedly instructed him to wait until he returned to the office tomorrow, and not to call him easily during this period.

And Suo Yang was finally willing to hold off flying for the sake of someone, to come back to the ground from high altitude and feel the sunshine in the hustle and bustle of the city rather than over it.

This was a breakthrough for both of them.

The old city districts always had more personality than the new ones.

The old man, who had come out early in the morning to walk the birds in the park and practice tai chi, walked back with his bird cage, greeting the shopkeeper who was cleaning the front of his shop on the roadside as he went.

The sleepy-eyed young man led the dog and took the pocket money to buy egg-filled pancakes2 at the moving breakfast stand that was about to close the stall.

There were also children who are late for school, crying and running out from the gate of the neighbourhood, followed by their grandmas be it from the father’s side or mother’s side chasing after them with school bags.

How long has it been since they saw a scene like this?

They used to see it every day, but it was hard to notice it anymore.

Suo Yang looked at what happened around him with a smile and suddenly wondered what he and Shen Huiming looked like to others.

Two not bad-looking men with a good temperament walking leisurely along the road. Where did they come from? Where were they coming from and where were they going?

As they walked along the road, Shen Huiming pointed out the neighbourhood across the road to Suo Yang, “I lived there when I was a kid.”

Suo Yang looked over and heard Shen Huiming say, “This building is older than me, I remember it was built in the eighties, almost forty years ago, I remember it was said to be demolished a few years ago, but since this area is a school district, there are too many things involved and it has never been implemented.”

Shen Huiming asked him suddenly, “Are you a local3he’s asking if Suo Yang is born and raised in the country?”

“Well,” Suo Yang said, “I studied here in college and stayed here to work after graduation.”

Shen Huiming could actually understand why Suo Yang works so hard. There were a lot of foreigners in their city, and it was not easy to stay and take root here. Many people had to go back home or settle in other cities where life was not so stressful after working for a few years or a dozen years. It was rare for someone like Suo Yang who could buy a small house with his own ability at such a young age.

Suo Yang knew what Shen Huiming was thinking, and said to him, “Many people may think that we make a lot of money in this line of work.”

       Shen Huiming looked at him.

In fact, Shen Huiming had always thought so, perhaps because of the special nature of the flight attendant industry—flying in the blue sky, always gives people a sense of mystery and endless reverie.

Just like the ‘private life’ the two talked about before, many people thought that the private life of the flight attendant was chaotic, but did those people really understand them?

“But the truth is, it’s not that easy to make money.” Suo Yang said, “The amount of money we make each month depends on the number of hours we fly and where we fly, and we really aren’t a team of high-flying models who live off our looks and bodies going through the motions every day.”

He laughed, “There is a certain amount of danger in what we do.”

Of course Shen Huiming understood what Suo Yang said, but he didn’t interrupt the other party and listened quietly.

“Cabin service is actually not easy, and communicating with people is a very laborious task.” When Suo Yang said this, he always smiled and spoke in a relaxed tone, but Shen Huiming knew that he was talking about something very stressful in a relaxed tone as much as possible, “But compared to those unforeseen emergencies, this is already very easy to deal with.”

“Unforeseen emergencies…” Shen Huiming frowned slightly.

Shen Huiming thought about this when he encountered the bad weather in Moscow last time. In fact, he suddenly understood the reason for Zhou Mo’s career change, and maybe it was also due to this factor.

“You’ve been on planes a lot, you must have experienced the turbulence,” Suo Yang said, “Every time the broadcast was aired, the passengers will feel very uncomfortable sitting there. Of course we will take some measures, but often there’s no way to just sit down and fasten your seat belt in the first place.”

They walked into a park and took a slow stroll along the river.

“When we flew to Rio de Janeiro a while ago, there was a sudden turbulence in the middle of the flight. At that time, were doing cabin service handing out meal boxes and one girl was hit in the back before the meal cart could stop because the turbulence was so violent.” Suo Yang said softly, “This kind of thing, in fact, happens every day.”

When most people thought of flight attendants, they think of the ‘glamour’ and ‘good pay’ they had, but rarely do they think of the problems they had to face.

Of course, all professions and trades had their own share of difficulties, but they only get so much in exchange for their hard work. Not to mention, many times they didn’t get as much as what was rumoured by the outsiders.

Suo Yang smiled, “Sorry, I complained to you.”

“What are you sorry for?” Shen Huiming said, “I like to hear it, and I want to know more about your life.”

Suo Yang looked at him, “What do you want to know? You can ask me.”

“No,” Shen Huiming was unexpectedly showing a tsundere4seemingly arrogant and standoffish but kind and tender inside. side, “I’m going to wait for you to reveal it to me little by little.”

Suo Yang laughed out loud, “Fine, then you can wait.”

The two walked around the park and coincidentally reached the place where they rented the boat.

Shen Huiming said, “Do you want to row a boat?”

Suo Yang looked at the sparkling water surface, this season, this temperature, and this time, boating couldn’t be more suitable.

There were not many tourists in this park, it was still early, and there were only a few scattered boats on the water.

“Okay.” Suo Yang said, “But, can I choose the pedal boat?”

Shen Huiming was not quite concerned with the shape of the boat, but he was very curious why Suo Yang had to choose a pedal boat.

       “The others…are scary.”

Shen Huiming didn’t expect Suo Yang to give such an answer. Suo Yang was so cute that Shen Huiming laughed out loud immediately.

“It turns out that you also have something to be afraid of.”

“Of course, I’m human too.” Suo Yang said with a smile, “I’m afraid of water.”

When he heard what Suo Yang said, Shen Huiming waved his hand, “Forget it then, let’s go do something else.”

He didn’t want his suggestion to bring any pressure on Suo Yang.

Suo Yang suddenly grabbed Shen Huiming’s wrist and said firmly, “No, I want to experience it, maybe because of this, I can overcome my fear of water.”

Suo Yang learned to swim when he was in elementary school, but he choked on the water on the first day, and since then he had been afraid of water. After that, even when the school organized everyone to go to the park on Children’s Day, he didn’t participate in the ‘swing the oar’ with the other students.

For so many years, he always had a sense of fear for rivers and lakes.

He didn’t like it. He didn’t like that he had a weakness.

In fact, he disliked exposing his weaknesses to others, but perhaps because Shen Huiming made him feel reliable, he was even willing to take risks with him around.

Shen Huiming looked at him, suddenly grabbed Suo Yang’s hand holding his wrist, squeezed it hard, and then let go.

       “Don’t worry, I’m here.”

With a single word, Suo Yang felt relieved.

He was not a person who liked to rely on others, but it felt really good to have someone he could trust.

       It was even, somewhat touching.

Shen Huiming and Suo Yang went to rent a boat, and Suo Yang smiled and pointed to the little yellow duck’s pedal boat, “Is it childish?”

       “It’s cute, that’s all.”

After they paid the deposit and asked about the fee standard, they put on their life jackets and then followed the staff to the shore.

Shen Huiming went up first, sat down, and waited for Suo Yang to come up.

As Suo Yang stood there and raised his feet, the boat in front of him was shaking slightly on the water’s surface. His heartbeat suddenly accelerated, and he didn’t dare to look at the water’s surface.

As he tensed and hesitated, Shen Huiming stretched out his hand.

“Suo Yang.” Shen Huiming looked at him and said, “It’s alright, come on.”

Suo Yang raised his head and looked at Shen Huiming, and the moment the other party extended his hand to him, it was as if the world was silent.

Everything was just a fleeting glimpse. Only the hand extended towards him and the person looking at him were real.

Suo Yang stretched out his hand and held it.

Shen Huiming pulled him hard and rose slightly, protecting Suo Yang as he took him aboard.

The two held hands all the time, and they didn’t let go until Suo Yang sat down.

The boat swayed from side to side due to their movements, the swaying range was not large, but it was enough to make Suo Yang flustered.

He held Shen Huiming’s hand tightly, and tried to look calm and collected.

Shen Huiming turned around and briefly exchanged words with the staff, then turned to him and said, “Are you okay?”

       Suo Yang nodded.

“Keep your feet on the pedals.” Shen Huiming was as patient and gentle as if teaching a child to learn to walk.

Suo Yang obediently lifted his foot and put it on the pedal, and then heard Shen Huiming say, Hold my hand tightly if you’re afraid, I’ll count to three, two, one, and we’ll press the pedal hard together, and prepare to sail.”

“Okay.” Suo Yang held Shen Huiming with one hand and grabbed the handrail beside him with the other hand.

       “Three, two, one.”

The ‘Little Yellow Duck’ sailed and cut through the calm water, as it carried the two of them towards the centre of the lake.

Suo Yang’s heart was beating fast. He didn’t know if it was because of nervousness or because of the hand he was holding.

Suo Yang could probably understand the reason why he was afraid of water—floating, helpless, not in control of his body, and even his breath could be taken away at any moment.

He didn’t like this sense of uncertainty, and the feeling of his fate spiralling out of control made him feel panicked.

It was already a breakthrough when he reached the shore. He thought that he would be too nervous to speak when he got on the boat, but to his surprise, everything was much more relaxed than he had imagined.

“I learnt to walk in this park,” Shen Huiming said while stepping on the pedals to Suo Yang’s rhythm, “I also learnt to ride a bicycle here.”

He pointed to the road they had come from, “It’s over there, on that road.”

Suo Yang looked in the direction of his finger, knowing that it was impossible, but it was as if he saw the child Shen Huiming walking there step by step with his parents, and the adolescent Shen Huiming speeding past with his classmates on bicycles.

He missed Shen Huiming of that era.

       Lovely, childish, youthful and soaring.

Suo Yang suddenly felt a little regretful, if they could have met earlier, wouldn’t they have had a chance…

Suo Yang put away these unrealistic fantasies.

He smiled and said, “Are you bringing me here to reminisce over the years?”

Shen Huiming also smiled, “Oops, you found out.”

       He did.

He brought Suo Yang to see the place where he grew up and let Suo Yang know that he really wanted the other party to come and see his world.

Since Suo Yang had no intention of opening the door for him yet, he had no choice but to take this step first.

“I want to show you my favourite place,” Shen Huiming said, “I have always said that there is no word ‘best’ in life, every moment is brand new, every moment is the best, every moment is the most worth cherishing and remembering. But the truth is, people are biased.”

Shen Huiming stepped on the pedal, and the boat swayed and took them farther and farther away from the shore.

He said, “My favourite time should be before the age of seventeen. I can’t say that it was a carefree time because there was always something to cause headaches, such as forgetting to wear a red scarf when I went to school or having a parents’ meeting when I didn’t do well in an exam.”

As he listened, Suo Yang slowly relaxed and sat beside Shen Huiming with a light smile.

The two chatted while they roamed the lake. The little snippets that Shen Huiming narrated seemed to fill the gap between the two of them for so many years.

       Shen Huiming’s thirty years.

       Suo Yang’s twenty-seven years.

The two non-overlapping worlds were pulled in front of Suo Yang by Shen Huiming through storytelling.

And their hands were held together from beginning to end.

After the lake tour was over, the two returned to the shore.

Shen Huiming let Suo Yang go ashore first, and himself guarded behind.

This time, although Suo Yang was still a little nervous standing on the swaying boat, he did not feel as dizzy as when he arrived, because someone was holding his hand all the time, and not only that, he was also protecting him from behind.

When he came back to the ground from the boat, he really knew what it meant to have ‘his feet on the ground’.

Suo Yang breathed a long sigh of relief, and Shen Huiming asked with a smile, “How is it? Do you feel alive now?”

Suo Yang rubbed between his brows, “It’s better than I imagined.”

“Then do you dare to board the boat when you are alone?”

Suo Yang looked at him, thought for a while, and replied, “Maybe it won’t work. Maybe it won’t work if someone else is around.”

This sentence was a pleasant surprise to Shen Huiming, he suppressed his laughter, and asked Suo Yang as calmly as possible, “So, I’m the only one who can?”

Suo Yang smiled, didn’t say anything, and turned around to go elsewhere.

The autumn wind swept by, and a fallen leaf fell on Suo Yang’s shoulder.

Shen Huiming quickly followed him and lifted his hand to pick up the leaf on his shoulder, holding it in his hand and playing with it.

“I’m taking it back and making a specimen.”

Suo Yang looked at him suspiciously.

“It’s got your autumn on it.”

===

It was already noon when they came out of the park, and the two were tired from walking and playing. When they got back to the car, Shen Huiming handed Suo Yang a bottle of water.

When Suo Yang took it and thanked him, Shen Huiming was a little exasperated, “When will you stop being so polite to me?”

Suo Yang took a sip of the water and said as he screwed on the cap, “I’m used to it.”

“Alright, take your time.” Shen Huiming glanced at the time. It was still early, and it was not suitable for eating or watching movies. He raised his hand to pick at his hair and said, “Do you mind accompanying me to get a haircut?”

       “No problem.”

Shen Huiming’s hair should really be cut. He was busy a while ago and went to the hospital after he finished his work, and after he came out of the hospital, he chased Suo Yang to Berlin.

Before they set off, Shen Huiming called his hair stylist and asked him if it was convenient for him to go there. After he received the approval, he drove Suo Yang there.

The place where Shen Huiming cut his hair was not far from his company. When he passed by, he still thought that maybe he could take Suo Yang to his company on the way.

He found out that he was a villain indeed, and having lured Suo Yang to his side, he couldn’t wait to flaunt him around and let everyone see him.

But he didn’t tell Suo Yang about this plan in advance, for fear that Suo Yang would feel embarrassed.

The two of them parked the car and went to get the haircut first.

When they entered, Shen Hui Ming’s hair stylist was already waiting at the door, and as soon as he saw him, he smiled, “What’s wrong with your hair? Are you going to change careers to be an actor, and play a tramp?”

Suo Yang followed behind Shen Huiming and looked over after hearing the sound.

The hair stylist was a young man, very white and thin, not very tall, it was already autumn, but the temperature inside was nice, he was still wearing short sleeves and had a flower arm tattooed on one arm.

Shen Huiming responded with a smile, “Mocking me as soon as I get here.”

After talking to the other party, he immediately turned to look back at Suo Yang, making sure that the other party was following him.

The hairstylist noticed this man just now, and they stared at him for a long time before they came in.

“Friend?” The hairstylist leaned against the bar to look at them.

“Yes,” Shen Huiming smiled at Suo Yang, and said to the hair stylist, “He came with me.”

The hairdresser tilted his head and looked at Suo Yang, then smiled softly, straightened up, turned around and walked in with light steps, “Come on, I’m waiting for you specially.”

Shen Huiming and Suo Yang walked side by side behind the hairstylist, “No need to queue today, we should be able to finish the cut soon.”

Suo Yang smiled, “It’s okay, there’s no rush.”

In this barber shop, each hairstylist had their own independent workroom, which had no door and was spacious, with a workbench in front and a waiting sofa at the back.

After the hair stylist took them there, he asked his assistant to wash Shen Huiming’s hair first, then pointed to the sofa behind and said to Suo Yang, “Handsome guy, you can sit there.”

Suo Yang politely thanked him, then sat down by the side.

As Shen Huiming went to wash his hair, the hairstylist glanced at Suo Yang, turned around and got him a glass of water.

“Thank you.” Suo Yang smiled at him.

The hairstylist leaned on the back of the chair and looked at him with a smile, “Are you dating Ming ge?”

Suo Yang was very calm. He held the paper cup in both hands, and looked up at the other party with a smile, “Just friends.”

The hairstylist curled his lips and smiled, “Oh, just friends for the time being, and hard to say about it in the future.”

Suo Yang smiled and said nothing.

“It’s alright, you guys are well-matched.”

Suo Yang listened to his tone of voice and could probably guess what he was thinking.

“Handsome, what do you do for a living?”

       “What?”

“It’s nothing, just curious.” The hairstylist said, “I see that you have an unusual temperament. What’s the word for it…”

The hairstylist tapped his forehead vigorously, but couldn’t remember, turned his head and shouted outside, “Andy! What is the word you use to describe your idol?”

“Gentle as jade!” The man called Andy was nowhere to be found, but his voice overpowered the music in the shop, “Baby! Are you going to be in the pit5simping?”

“Into the pit my ass.” The hairstylist muttered in a low voice, then turned to Suo Yang and said, “That’s the word, gentle as jade, looks like a cultured person.”

Suo Yang was amused by him, but he just smiled and didn’t say much, let alone tell the other party his profession.

The hairstylist saw that he was not willing to talk, and he didn’t know whether it was Suo Yang’s personality, or that Suo Yang still looked down on him and didn’t want to talk to him, so he felt bored, so he stopped talking.

He turned around, looked in the mirror, and subconsciously compared himself in the mirror with the person sitting behind him.

Suo Yang suddenly raised his eyes and just met his gaze. The hairstylist didn’t dodge and smiled at him.

Shen Huiming came back from washing his hair, and as soon as he came in, he looked at Suo Yang who was sitting there.

Suo Yang smiled at him, put down the water glass, and got up to take the phone and car keys that Shen Huiming handed him.

“It almost fell out just now when I was lying there washing my hair.” Shen Huiming said.

“You should have let me hold it for you before you went.” With Shen Huiming’s things in his hand, Suo Yang moved to the side and watched Shen Huiming go over and sit in front of the worktable.

Instead of going back to the sofa to sit down, he stood and watched.

The hairstylist was neat and skilled, and he didn’t talk too much when cutting Shen Huiming’s hair, which was really good.

Suo Yang stood there looking at Shen Huiming. The other man’s eyes were closed and his eyelashes were covered with a little bit of hair that had been cut, making him want to go over and help him blow it out.

The waiting time was longer than the two of them expected. Suo Yang could tell that in the end, they were just trimming some insignificant parts. The hairdresser seemed anxious to cut and repair them one by one.

That hand holding the scissors was thin and white, and they were very dexterous. He carefully styled Shen Huiming’s hair, obviously delaying time on purpose.

Shen Huiming naturally found out, and asked, “Suo Yang, what time is it?”

When he asked Suo Yang the time, he was actually tactfully urging the hairstylist.

Suo Yang glanced at the phone and found that it had been cut for almost an hour.

However, only Shen Huiming was in a hurry, while Suo Yang was really not in a hurry. He stood there a bit lost in thought, his thoughts fell on the hairstylist.

The hairstylist understood what Shen Huiming meant, “What’s the hurry? If you don’t get a good cut, you’re ruining my reputation.”

Shen Huiming smiled, “Can we not be in a hurry, both of our time was very precious today.”

The reason why he asked Suo Yang to come and cut his hair with him was that he thought that this matter was quite personal, and only those who were close to him would accompany him to have a haircut.

However, he didn’t expect it to be so slow.

The hairstylist pouted again, “What for? A date?”

Shen Huiming smiled and said, “Yes, can’t you see it?”

Suo Yang laughed softly, and when he raised his eyes, he found that the hairstylist was looking at him.

“I can see it now.” The hairstylist stopped talking and announced after a few minutes that the cut was done.

Although the hairstylist seemed to not really be in a good mood, the cut was pretty good.

Shen Huiming went to the cashier to swipe his card, while Suo Yang walked slowly behind.

“I’m envious of you,” the hairstylist said beside Suo Yang, “I told you. He just won’t look at me.”

Suo Yang turned to look at him.

“I make a lot of money a month,” the hair stylist muttered, “but it’s not the same. No matter how much I earn, I’m not at the same level as him.”

Suo Yang listened to his words, was silent for a few seconds, and said softly, “Don’t say that, you just haven’t met the right person for you.”

“Huh?” The hairdresser didn’t expect Suo Yang to comfort himself.

“Thank you for your hard work today,” Suo Yang said with a smile, “He looks a lot more refreshed.”

The hairstylist stared at Suo Yang and then smiled too.

“It’s okay,” said the hair stylist, “Next time you come to see me, I’ll give you a 20% discount.”

After swiping the card, Shen Huiming came to look for Suo Yang, holding a red immortal flower bear in his hand. It was not big, it was packed in a transparent box and tied with a black ribbon6.

He conveniently handed the little bear to Suo Yang.

“A top-up gift.” Shen Huiming said, “It looks cute.”

Suo Yang looked at the little bear in his hand and leaned closer to smell it through the package.

“Can you smell the fragrance?” Shen Huiming asked with a smile.

“It seems to be okay.” Suo Yang handed the little bear in front of him, and Shen Huiming was really cooperative, so he leaned over to sniff it.

The hairstylist standing on the side pouted and said, “Alright, you guys should go now. Not only do I have no one to date, but I also have to continue working, please let me live!”

Chapter 50

When Boss Sun called to ask Chen Yuncheng to go to the trade market to look at the shops, Ning Junyan happened to be resting at home, and he insisted on driving Chen Yuncheng there.

Chen Yuncheng told him there was no need for him to do that. He didn’t really want Ning Junyan to go with him, because Ning Junyan’s presence and his car were too conspicuous. Boss Sun found him something to do because he saw that his current situation was difficult. It was not suitable for him to drive a car worth hundreds of thousands to meet others. But Chen Yuncheng was unable to say this reason.

Ning Junyan asked him, “Why not?”

Chen Yuncheng said, “It’s rare for you to have a day off, so take a good rest at home.”

Ning Junyan shook his head, but still insisted, “I’ll take you there.”

Chen Yuncheng felt that he couldn’t refuse anymore, so he said, “Then you can park outside later and wait for me in the car.”

Ning Junyan frowned and realized something. He put down the half-eaten porridge in his hand, “You don’t like me?”

Chen Yuncheng quickly said, “It’s not that I dislike you, I’m just a part-time worker. I’m afraid that you will cause misunderstandings with me.”

Ning Junyan asked him, “What is the misunderstanding?”

Chen Yuncheng said, “I misunderstand that I am not sincere.”

Ning Junyan looked at him silently for a while, and said, “The car doesn’t need to go in, but I want to go in.”

       Chen Yuncheng nodded, “Okay.”

The trade market in the north of the city was newly renovated. Chen Yuncheng had only heard of it before and had never been here.

There was a large parking lot outside the market, and there were not many cars parked at this time. Because it was a wholesale business market, cars could drive inside, but Chen Yuncheng asked Ning Junyan to park the car in the parking lot.

The two of them walked in and saw that the market was almost a two-story townhouse, with shops on both floors. Not much time passed from completion to the opening of the market, and most of the shops had not yet opened for business. Some were closed, some were under renovation, and only a few had opened for business.

Boss Sun had already arrived first, standing outside the shop waiting for Chen Yuncheng.

Chen Yuncheng greeted him when he saw him, briefly introduced Ning Junyan who was with him, saying that he was a friend who drive him here and then listened to Boss Sun’s introduction of the shop.

Boss Sun’s full name was Sun Shiliang. He was in his forties, not very tall, a typical middle-aged man with a large pot belly.

Ning Junyan just took a look at him, then let Chen Yuncheng talk with him, and stood a little further away.

Boss Sun’s new shop was quite big and was still being renovated, but the signboard had already been put up.

He told Chen Yuncheng that he was rushing to renovate as soon as possible and wanted to start the business the year before, but now it looked a bit difficult and might have to be postponed until after the year.

Chen Yuncheng said, “The year before is the best time for business, I guess.”

The tobacco and alcohol business before the Chinese New Year was naturally the best. Sun Shiliang glanced around, “You see, most of the people around here couldn’t open their businesses a few years ago, and the deserted places can’t drive business. Forget it, don’t worry too much. Besides, there are still two weeks to go before Chinese New Year’s Eve, and these renovators will stop working soon, so we won’t be able to find anyone again until after Chinese New Year is over. It’s the same with you hiring people, it’s a bad time of year, and everyone’s back home for New Year. You’re getting ready to go back for New Year too, right?”

When Chen Yuncheng heard him say that, he suddenly realised that it was already almost the Chinese New Year. He said, “I won’t go back, so I’ll stay here.”

Sun Shiliang asked strangely, “Aren’t you the only child in the family? Hurry back and bear a son to carry on the family name!”

Chen Yuncheng didn’t expect his casual perfunctory remarks to be remembered so well by the other party, so he couldn’t help but smiled and said, “It’s okay, they’ll just come over to spend the New Year with me.”

Sun Shiliang didn’t think about it carefully, and nodded, “Anyway, let bygones be bygones, other than that, we still have to arrange for someone to guard the goods.”

Chen Yuncheng asked, “Is there a place to live in the shop?”

Sun Shiliang said, “Yes”, he took Chen Yuncheng to walk inside and saw that besides the two open shops outside, there was a small store room inside with some shelves already set up, and then there was an empty room inside with a small bathroom on one side of the room.

“You can live there if you want, or you can hire someone to guard it,” Sun Shiliang pointed out to him, “Didn’t you live in the kiosk before? If you don’t have a place to live, you don’t need to rent an apartment.”

Chen Yuncheng subconsciously turned his head and looked outside. From this angle, Ning Junyan was no longer visible. He said, “Let me think about it.”

Sun Shiliang patted him on the shoulder and said, “It won’t be as comfortable as being the boss of your own in the future.”

Chen Yuncheng turned around, smiled and said: “Being comfortable is one thing, but business has been bad over there, and it will only get worse when the supermarket opens nearby in the future, so it’s no point for me to just try to be comfortable and at ease.”

There were also a lot of renovation tools piled up inside, and the floor was so messy that it was difficult to set foot on it, so the two retreated out again.

Sun Shiliang saw Ning Junyan standing outside from a distance, and asked Chen Yuncheng in a low voice, “What does your friend do?”

Chen Yuncheng found that many people around him were interested in Ning Junyan’s identity, so he joked, “What do you think?”

Sun Shiliang sized up Ning Junyan from head to toe, “He looks like a celebrity by his appearance, and he looks like some big boss by his temperament.”

Chen Yuncheng couldn’t help but smiled slightly, and said to Sun Shiliang, “Aren’t you the one who looks like a big boss?”

Sun Shiliang shook his hand holding the cigarette, “I’m just a local rich man.”

Chen Yuncheng laughed softly, “He’s a doctor.”

Ning Junyan wore a long coat today. He was tall and broad-shouldered, and he looked very good in a long coat. His clothes were open and his hands were in his pockets, as he stood upright against the light. Like Sun Shiliang said, he looked like an idol star coming out of a TV drama.

When Sun Shiliang heard that Ning Junyan was a doctor, he immediately became interested and asked, “Which hospital is he from?

Chen Yuncheng talked about the tertiary hospital where he worked.

Sun Shiliang said, “It’s a big hospital. Is your friend free? Let me treat you to dinner tonight.”

“You are too kind,” Chen Yuncheng said.

Sun Shiliang said, “You know how difficult it is to see a doctor nowadays, who doesn’t want to meet doctors from big hospitals, you have to give me a good introduction.”

Chen Yuncheng looked at Ning Junyan and suddenly hesitated. He didn’t know if Ning Junyan would dislike this kind of socializing, but it was hard for him to refuse Boss Sun’s request, so he could only say, “I’ll ask him if he has any arrangements for the evening and then give you an answer.”

       Sun Shiliang replied, “Yes!”

At noon, Sun Shiliang had other arrangements, so he parted from them at the trade market.

Chen Yuncheng got into the car, and when Ning Junyan started the car, he asked him, “Do you have something for the evening?”

“Huh?” Ning Junyan turned his head slightly.

Chen Yuncheng said, “Boss Sun just now wanted to invite you to dinner tonight.”

“Invite me?” Ning Junyan felt a little strange, “Why me?”

Chen Yuncheng said, “He’s quite fond of making friends, he heard that you work at the hospital and wants to get to know you.”

Ning Junyan heard the words and replied, “Okay.”

Chen Yuncheng looked at him in surprise, “Is it okay?”

Ning Junyan said “En”, “Isn’t he your boss?”

Chen Yuncheng didn’t expect him to agree so readily. It took him a while to react, and he called Sun Shiliang back and asked to have dinner together in the evening.

Sun Shiliang was outspoken and straightforward, so he immediately agreed on the time and place.

Chen Yuncheng and Ning Junyan went over in the evening, and when they entered the restaurant’s private room, they saw that Sun Shiliang had brought two friends over. Sun Shiliang introduced the two as a government official and a university teacher and said that he was a businessman with little education, so he had found two friends to drink and chat with.

Chen Yuncheng took off his coat and handed it to the waiter. He sat down and said, “Sun ge, he will be on duty tomorrow, so he doesn’t dare to drink.”

As soon as the words left Chen Yuncheng’s mouth, Ning Junyan who was sitting next to him said, “I’m not on duty, you remember wrongly.”

Chen Yuncheng raised his foot and kicked Ning Junyan, which happened to hit Ning Junyan’s calf, and said with a smile on his face, “That’s my mistake, but he’s still driving, so why don’t I drink for him?”

Sun Shiliang said, “It’s okay even if he’s driving, I’ll call a chauffeur for Dr. Ning and make sure you get back safe and sound.”

Ning Junyan said, “Thank you, Boss Sun.”

Chen Yuncheng couldn’t help but wanted to kick Ning Junyan again, but this time Ning Junyan held onto his thigh and squeezed it a little harder making his whole body trembled along with it.

In this kind of situation, with the other party being Sun Shiliang, who liked to socialise and entertain, Chen Yuncheng knew that it would be hard to end the night without drinking enough.

He glanced at Ning Junyan with some concern.

Ning Junyan approached his ear and whispered, “It’s okay.” Then when Sun Shiliang called everyone to have a drink first, he stood up politely holding the wine glass.

Chen Yuncheng had always felt that Ning Junyan was somewhat unapproachable in the past. Whether it was when he was a child or after the two reunited, the Ning Junyan in his impression seldom interacted with others in a polite and courteous way as he was now, socialising with people.

Ning Junyan was actually two years older than him, but he had hit his head when he was a child and Chen Yuncheng had been taking care of him, so he always felt that Ning Junyan was younger than him and needed to be taken care of by himself. However, today, Chen Yuncheng felt that he was being taken care of by him.

There was no need for Ning Junyan to come to this meal. The only reason why he accepted the invitation without hesitation was that Sun Shiliang was Chen Yuncheng’s boss, and he had come for Chen Yuncheng.

The university teacher sitting across from him chatted with Ning Junyan. Chen Yuncheng was confused when he heard them talking about doctoral dissertations and medical journals, so he ate food silently. Many times he couldn’t help turning his head to look at Ning Junyan.

Sun Shiliang sat on a chair with a smile and smoked. He also couldn’t understand, but it didn’t prevent him from listening to their chat with relish.

Chen Yuncheng kind of understood this kind of mentality. When you felt that you were shallow and ignorant, but the other party was knowledgeable and powerful, it created a mentality of admiration.

At this moment, he could feel Ning Junyan’s excellence and the fact that such an excellent Ning Junyan would fall in love with him, which made him throb uncontrollably from the bottom of his heart.

Chapter 49

After he finished the noodles, Chen Yuncheng was not in a hurry to leave, he was still a little excited about this sudden job. He took out his mobile phone, and had the urge to call Ning Junyan, he had already found the other party’s name in the address book but hesitated when he was about to dial the number, he was considering whether it was appropriate or not.

He had been running around for Zhou Yan’s affairs these past few days and had been too occupied with his energy to deal with his Ning Junyan problem.

Ning Junyan’s attitude is very clear now, Chen Yuncheng felt that he could not afford to drag his feet anymore. Either he accepted or refused.

He reached out and picked up the remaining half bottle of mineral water, unscrewed it, gulped it down, put the empty bottle back on the table, and rubbed his forehead with his hand in some pain.

He couldn’t refuse Ning Junyan, he had understood in his own heart a long time ago that he would not feel repelled no matter if it was those intimate hugs or even kisses. However, he was afraid to accept Ning Junyan, because Ning Junyan was a very important person in his life, if they were together but couldn’t make it to the end together, he might even lose this friend.

The reason why Chen Yuncheng was still unable to make up his mind to accept it was that he did not think there was a way for them to be able to make it to the end.

He was a person who attached great importance to feelings. Whether it was making friends or falling in love, once he was determined, he would give his all. The feeling of giving too much and in the end not being able to hold on to anything was too painful, he couldn’t help but be afraid and retreated.

In the evening, Chen Yuncheng took a shower and packed his suitcase in the room in his thin pyjamas. Except for the daily necessities, most of his things were still in the suitcase, as if he was ready to leave at any moment.

Ning Junyan knocked on the door lightly and came in, asking him, “What are you doing?”

Chen Yuncheng said, “I’m packing up my things.”

Ning Junyan walked over to him and knelt down, seeing the contents of his suitcase. Chen Yuncheng was hurriedly hiding two old pants under his clothes when Ning Jun Yan extended his hand and took them out for him, saying, “They’re all torn.”

Chen Yuncheng snatched it back, “Give it back to me.”

Ning Junyan asked, “Can I go and buy you new ones?”

       Chen Yuncheng said, “No need.”

Ning Junyan then changed his phrasing, “Can I accompany you to buy a new one?”

Chen Yuncheng said, “I can still wear it, there’s no need to buy new ones.” He put the lid on the case, zipped it up and asked Ning Junyan, “What’s the matter?”

Ning Junyan asked him, “Aren’t you going to sleep in my room tonight?”

Chen Yuncheng lowered his head weakly and said, “I drank too much last night, I’m sorry.”

Ning Junyan looked at his side face, and said softly, “So you don’t need me after you’ve sobered up?”

He obviously had no special tone, but Chen Yuncheng could hear a little grievance, and looked up at him helplessly, “Stop talking nonsense.”

Ning Junyan didn’t speak but just looked at him intently.

Chen Yuncheng didn’t know what to say. He stood up and at the same time stretched out his hand in front of Ning Junyan, pulling him up too.

Ning Junyan who stood face to face with him suddenly leaned into his ear, and said softly, “I bought a bottle of wine—”

“I’m not going to drink!” Chen Yuncheng interrupted him loudly.

Ning Junyan was quite calm, and said, “If you are not going to drink, don’t drink. No need to be so agitated.”

Chen Yuncheng walked to the bed and lay down on his back. He knew that Ning Junyan was sitting on the edge of his bed, so he didn’t bother to get up. He folded his arms under his head and said, “I had a friend contact me today, “A friend of mine contacted me today and asked me to go and manage his shop.”

“What kind of shop?” Ning Junyan asked him.

Chen Yuncheng said, “He used to be in the wholesale business of tobacco, alcohol and non-staple food. Now he wants to open a new store in the commercial market in the north of the city. He wants me to help him manage it.”

Ning Junyan asked, “What do you think?”

Chen Yuncheng said, “I think it’s pretty good.”

Ning Junyan said, “Then go ahead.”

Chen Yuncheng hesitated for a moment, and cautiously say, “It’s a bit far over there, it’s not convenient for me to continue living here…”

Ning Junyan looked at him sideways.

Chen Yuncheng met his gaze, felt guilty for a few seconds, and continued, “I want to go out and rent a place to live.”

Ning Junyan said with an expressionless face, “No.”

Although he had thought about it a long time ago, Chen Yuncheng suddenly thought of saying this. He felt that the distance between him and Ning Junyan was too close, and was always carried away by Ning Junyan’s emotions. With a distance between the two, could he see his thoughts more clearly?

Chen Yuncheng sighed, “I’m not a child, you can’t be like this.” He actually wanted to say that Ning Junyan had no right to force him, but the words were too heavy for him to say to Ning Junyan.

Ning Junyan stretched out a hand, caressing Chen Yuncheng’s face with his rough and warm palm, and said in a low and slightly cold voice, “I said no.”

Chen Yuncheng didn’t want to argue with him, so he turned his face away from him.

Ning Junyan pinched Chen Yuncheng’s chin with his slender and strong fingers, and forcefully turned his face to look at him, “I said I won’t let you go.”

Chen Yuncheng was a little angry, and pushed his hand hard, “Even if we are in a relationship, you have no right to confine my freedom.”

Ning Junyan said, “Then let’s go and get married.”

Chen Yuncheng was angry and funny for a moment, “Let’s not talk about whether we can get married. Did you get your parent’s consent to get married?”

“Why do I need their consent?” Ning Junyan said indifferently, “Have they gotten married with my consent?”

Chen Yuncheng was at a loss for words for a moment, unable to speak because of his nonsense, so he just looked at Ning Junyan in silence.

After more than ten seconds, Ning Junyan let go of the hand that was pinching his chin.

Chen Yuncheng used his hands to support himself and tried to sit up from the bed.

But Ning Junyan bent down and hugged him at this moment, pressing his whole body on him with his lips pressed against his ear and whispered, “Don’t go.”

Chen Yuncheng pushed him, “Get up.”

Ning Jun stretched out his arms and hugged him tightly, and said, “What will I do if you leave?”

Chen Yuncheng was not as strong as him, and he couldn’t get up under his pressure, so he could only say, “Haven’t we been separated for so many years? Besides, we are still in the same city, and we can meet each other anytime.”

Ning Junyan asked, “Then why do you have to leave?”

Chen Yuncheng said, “As I said, this place is too far away from where I work.”

Ning Junyan was quiet for two seconds and said, “Then should I move in and live with you?”

Chen Yuncheng broke down a little, raised his hand to cover his eyes, lay down silently for a while, and decided to tell the truth, “I just think I still need some space right now to see our previous relationship clearly.”

Ning Junyan asked him, “Is this room not big enough?”

       Chen Yuncheng did not answer.

Ning Junyan got up from him, supported his body with his arms and looked down at him from above.

Chen Yuncheng looked at him and could feel the strong sense of oppression in his eyes.

After a while, Ning Junyan stretched out his hand towards Chen Yuncheng, who, was afraid that he would grab his chin again, so he stretched out his hand to block it.

However, this time Ning Junyan obviously didn’t put much strength in his hands and was easily blocked by Chen Yuncheng. His eyelashes drooped, he blinked lightly, and walked away from Chen Yuncheng, then stood up and said, “Go to sleep first.”

Chen Yuncheng turned his head and saw Ning Junyan leaving the room.

The door closed with a soft “click”, Chen Yuncheng maintained his posture lying on the bed, his mind was full of Ning Junyan’s last expression.

He was so annoyed that he tossed and turned on the bed for a while, but couldn’t fall asleep at all, so he got up and got out of bed.

Chen Yuncheng came out of the room and found that the living room was lit. He walked over slowly and saw Ning Junyan sitting by the floor-to-ceiling window in the living room, drinking with a can of beer in his hand.

He walked up to Ning Junyan, squatted down, looked at him and asked, “Why are you drinking alone?”

Ning Junyan looked out the window and said, “You refuse to drink with me.”

Chen Yuncheng felt uncomfortable immediately, he said, “Stop drinking, how can you go to work tomorrow when you’re drunk.”

Ning Junyan turned to look at him, “Tomorrow is the weekend and I don’t have a duty. I won’t get drunk.”

Chen Yuncheng said, “If you drink too much, you will get drunk.”

The beer in Ning Junyan’s hand was taken out of the refrigerator, and the can was still covered with cold mist. He raised his hand and pressed the beer can to Chen Yuncheng’s face, saying, “I will stop before I get drunk. I do not want to hurt you.”

Chen Yuncheng was obviously worried that Ning Junyan would do something to him just now, but he still said, “You will not hurt me.”

Ning Junyan slowly slid down the hand holding the beer and pressed the cold body of the can to Chen Yuncheng’s neck.

Chen Yuncheng shivered, reached out to grab Ning Junyan’s hand, and tilted his head back to avoid it.

Ning Junyan shook the beer in his hand, “There’s still a little bit left, want to drink?”

Chen Yuncheng heard the sound of the liquid inside was very shallow, he nodded and wanted to take the beer can, but Ning Junyan didn’t let go, and directly handed it to his lips, tilting the can of beer to feed Chen Yuncheng the remaining liquid.

He was forced to drink the rest of the beer. Chen Yuncheng coughed twice and raised his hand to wipe the beer spilling from the corner of his mouth.

But Ning Junyan suddenly leaned over, kissed his lips, and sucked the drop of beer from the corner of his mouth before stepping away from him, showing a very light smile, and said to him, “Good night.”

Chapter 30

Before he met Suo Yang, Shen Huiming felt that flying was troublesome and tiring. Sometimes it only took two hours of flying distance, but counting back and forth, he spent most of the day at the airport.

However, it was different after getting to know Suo Yang.

He suddenly felt that the sky was a unique meeting place for him and Suo Yang. Every time he was flying, even if he was not on Suo Yang’s flight, he would feel that he had a secret connection with the other party.

       It was so romantic.

To be thirty and still pursue romance might be laughed at when you tell people about it.

But wonderful romance was as unattainable as love, and the deliberate pursuit of it was far less profound than this.

He sat still and heard the voice of Suo Yang greeting other passengers.

Suo Yang had a good voice, and this good voice always greets others in the same way but said many more beautiful things to him.

Shen Huiming was secretly snickering there and felt like a villain gaining powers.

He sat there, stroking the coffee-stained book with his fingers, listening to Suo Yang saying hello to everyone as if he was enjoying a certain musician’s solo at a concert.

       This was his man.

Even if he was not at the moment, he would be in the future.

Shen Huiming felt that people still need to be a little confident.

The plane took off, broke into the clouds and left Berlin, and for a few short hours, they attended a wedding and stole a blessing from God.

The return was the same as the arrival, with a connecting flight in Moscow, they would not reach the destination until the next afternoon.

It was midnight when they boarded the plane again, after twelve o’clock, Shen Huiming finally used part of the time to finish all the work.

Even though he had to hurry up and do everything he could on such a trip, he didn’t feel tired, on the contrary, he enjoyed it, and he attributed it all to Suo Yang.

It was said that a person who fell in love was like a perpetual motion machine; they could always remain excited and never feel tired.

Shen Huiming now thought that this might be true.

It was already late at night after the plane took off again, and there were very few first-class passengers. Except for Shen Huiming, there were only two other passengers left.

As usual, Suo Yang served other passengers first before finally coming to Shen Huiming’s place.

He smiled and asked Shen Huiming, “Sir, do you need something to eat?”

It was already night anyway, and he was the last one, so Shen Huiming boldly joked with Suo Yang, “Why don’t you call me Mr. Shen this time?”

Suo Yang smiled and handed him the menu, “Have a look?”

Shen Huiming took the menu and opened it, only to find a note inside.

He raised his head and looked at Suo Yang. The other party was as calm as if nothing had happened, he took the note and opened it directly in front of Suo Yang.

There were only two words in the note Suo Yang wrote to him: Good night.

Shen Huiming smiled, put the note in the book at hand, and said to him, “I want to have a cup of coffee.”

Suo Yang said softly, “It’s already late, are you sure you want coffee?”

“I’m sure.” Shen Huiming asked, “And would like to invite you to have a cup too.”

Suo Yang, “I’m sorry, we have rules against ……”

“If not now, how about some other time?” Shen Huiming said, “I won’t force you to break the rules, but, give me a chance to buy you a coffee later?”

Suo Yang looked at him helplessly and smiled, and said to himself, what an opportunity to drink coffee, the 24-hour date has already been set then.

“So, are you sure you want a cup of coffee?”

Shen Huiming closed the menu and said to him, “You can help me decide.”

Suo Yang took back the menu and told him to wait a moment.

It was already this late, and Suo Yang hoped that Shen Huiming could have a good rest and sleep, although it was a little difficult on the plane.

But how so he did not have to get coffee?

After he went back, he thought about it and poured Shen Huiming half a glass of red wine.

When Suo Yang gave the red wine to Shen Huiming, he found that the other party was opening the book and staring at the note inside. In the dark cabin, Shen Huiming’s behaviour made him feel a little soft.

The night and the dim light could easily give rise to ambiguity, Suo Yang walked over lightly, trying not to disturb other passengers, put the red wine on the table gently, and then sat next to Shen Huiming.

Shen Huiming was a little surprised and closed the book to look at him.

“Isn’t this against the regulations?” He deliberately made a joke about Suo Yang.

Suo Yang said softly, “You can change shifts and rest in the stratosphere during midnight flights.”

Shen Huiming looked at him with a wine glass and didn’t speak for a while.

“Forget it.” Shen Huiming turned his head and looked out the window.

At this time, there was a river of stars outside the window, and it was so dreamy that it was somewhat unreal.

       “What’s wrong?” Suo Yang asked.

Shen Huiming moved his eyes from the star river to Suo Yang reflected in the glass window. He chuckled and said, “I dare not stare at you like that, the atmosphere is too good. I’m afraid I won’t be able to control myself and go over to kiss you.”

Suo Yang’s heart skipped a beat at Shen Huiming’s words, and he clenched his palms subconsciously.

Shen Huiming turned around and smiled, “Don’t be nervous, I can still control myself for the time being.”

Of course, Suo Yang knew that he was just all talk. Shen Huiming was a man of discretion and would never act recklessly.

But he had to admit that the other party’s words did make him nervous, and he suddenly wondered if Shen Huiming was really going to come over and kiss him, would he accept it or would he dodge it?

“So, relax.” Shen Huiming drank his red wine, squeezed Suo Yang’s wrist with a smile and said, “Be my guest, I invite you to look at the stars.”

Together, the two turned in the direction of the window and looked out at the stars.

In all his years of flying, what kind of nights had he not seen?

Starry ones, dark clouds, no matter what kind of high altitude night he should not find it rare, yet at this moment he felt that this starry sky was different from every day in the past.

Because in the past, there was no Shen Huiming to look at the stars with him.

Suddenly, Shen Huiming said, “The moon.”

Suo Yang returned back to his senses, leaned closer to Shen Huiming’s side slightly, poked his head over, and saw the bright moon, which was soaked in the river of stars and moonlight, quiet and lonely.

He suddenly remembered a saying—the moon under the sea is the moon in the sky, and the person in front of him is the person in his heart.

The person in front of him?

He turned to look at Shen Huiming.

===

The plane landed at 1:40 pm, and the crew made all preparations to see off every passenger.

After Shen Huiming got off the plane, he immediately sent a message to Suo Yang, asking him what his plans were for later.

He knew that Suo Yang would not look at his mobile phone for a while, so he found a coffee shop at the airport and waited.

The coffee shop at the airport also became their unique dating spot.

When Suo Yang switched on his phone, he had already changed out of his uniform and was heading out. When he saw Shen Huiming’s WeChat, he immediately gave the other party a callback.

He was not a person who liked to call, but the other party’s message had been sent for a long time and he desperately wanted to reach that person.

Shen Huiming was quite surprised that Suo Yang called, he answered with a smile, “Are you done?”

There was no greeting, but it seemed more intimate.

“Yes, I’ve just finished.” Suo Yang asked, “Where are you now?”

“Starbucks.” Shen Huiming looked back in the direction he had come from, “The one leading to the baggage claim, will you be passing by?”

“Then I’ll go over to you,” said Suo Yang, “Are you driving? I can drive you back.”

       Shen Huiming smiled.

Not to mention that Shen Huiming didn’t drive here at all, even if he drove, he would have had to say that he hadn’t.

“Sure, I’ll wait for you.” He liked to wait for Suo Yang, he wouldn’t feel anxious even if he had to wait for a long time.

Shen Huiming, who had finished his work, was very relaxed at the moment, sipping his drink while looking through Suo Yang’s Weibo.

He looked at every place Suo Yang went and the post he made on Weibo, and felt that this person was really serious and cute.

Shen Huiming wished to write down every city the other party had been to. In some places, Suo Yang would casually post a photo of the scenery, which he saved, thinking that maybe the two of them would go back to that place together and take a photo together later.

He was thinking about it, but he didn’t know whether Suo Yang would give him this chance and whether they had the time.

When Suo Yang went to look for Shen Huiming this time, he didn’t startle him like before, even though he could pass behind him, he still walked around to the bar and walked through the main entrance.

As soon as he came in, Shen Huiming saw him and raised his hand to greet him.

Suo Yang walked over with a smile and sat opposite him.

“What are you doing?” Suo Yang asked.

“Looking at your Weibo.” Shen Huiming turned the phone screen to show him, “I’ve been here too.”

Suo Yang looked over and found that it was the banks of the Seine River in Paris.

“And, the day before you went, I was there.”

This was three years ago when Shen Huiming was accompanying his parents on their holiday.

“Three years ago on the banks of the Seine, we were only a little bit close to meeting each other.” Shen Huiming said, “I don’t know if this is considered fate or not?”

Suo Yang looked at him with a smile in his eyes, “Are you talking nonsense again?”

“Of course not!” Shen Huiming was very serious, opened WeChat, found his father’s circle of friends, and deliberately turned to the one from three years ago to show Suo Yang, “I have proof.”

Shen Huiming himself never posts on Moments, and rarely even takes photos.

Fortunately, his parents had taken quite a few photos there at the time and posted them in order to show off.

He showed it to Suo Yang, “Not nonsense, right?”

Suo Yang didn’t expect that the two of them could have such a ‘connection’ that he couldn’t tell whether he should be happy or regretful. He thought for a while and said, “It was kind of fate, I guess. We almost met three years ago but missed it, and after three years of going round and round, we still met.”

Suo Yang’s words were very pleasing to Shen Huiming, and he thought it was a bit of a pity at first, but when he said it like this, it seemed a bit like fate.

“Yes, it’s fate,” Shen Huiming said, “We were destined to meet each other. Although it was three years later, the result is still the same.”

Suo Yang smiled at him, but in his heart, he felt that it was a bit too nauseating for him to say such words.

“Are you tired?” Shen Huiming said, “You probably didn’t rest well on the plane.”

“It’s alright, I’m used to it.”

Although Suo Yang said so, Shen Huiming didn’t need to think about it to know that he must be tired.

Shen Huiming tidied up, got up and asked Suo Yang to leave together.

“Let’s have a simple lunch,” Shen Huiming said, “After you go back and have a good rest, will you have free time next?”

Suo Yang thought of the ‘24-hour appointment’ between the two.

“24 hours is not possible for the time being.” Suo Yang said, “However, I can discuss with my colleagues about changing shifts to free up time.”

When Shen Huiming heard the first half of the sentence, he thought he had no chance in the near future, but he didn’t expect Suo Yang to be willing to change shifts for him.

“So you’re actually looking forward to our date, aren’t you?”

Suo Yang walked beside him, smiled and didn’t intend to answer.

Just when Shen Huiming thought he wouldn’t say anything more, Suo Yang suddenly said, “Yes, I’m quite looking forward to it.”

Chapter 48

After Ning Junyan said that, he propped his head up with one hand, lay on his side and looked down at Chen Yuncheng. He wanted to take a closer look at Chen Yuncheng’s expression.

Chen Yuncheng turned back to look at the ceiling again, not looking at him, his eyes seemed to be covered with mist, and the redness around his ears also spread to the corners of his eyes, he did not answer Ning Junyan’s question, and said, “I want to sleep now.”

Ning Junyan gave an “En”, with a thin smile in his eyes, “Go to sleep.”

       Chen Yuncheng closed his eyes.

Ning Junyan leaned close to his ear again this moment, and said softly, “Your face is all red, are you too hot? Can I help you take off your clothes?”

After he said that, he reached out to take off the sweater on Chen Yuncheng’s body. Chen Yuncheng was lying on the bed, so it was a bit difficult to take off his clothes, Ning Junyan was very patient and used his hand to support his back, saying, “Lift up some, be a good boy.”

Chen Yuncheng moved a bit, and suddenly sat up with his hands, staggering to climb out of bed, he said, “I haven’t taken a shower yet.”

Ning Jun stretched his arms around his waist and dragged him back, “No need to take shower, let’s go to sleep.” Following the movement of him getting up, after taking off the sweater, he also took off his trousers.

Chen Yuncheng kept being uncooperative and said that he needs to take a bath.

He was left with a pair of underwear all over his body, so Ning Jun Yan took him in his arms, pulled the quilt over to cover him, and took a deep breath with his face against his neck, “You don’t need to wash it, I like your smell.”

Chen Yuncheng was tired of struggling and panted slightly with a red face.

Ning Junyan extended his hand to turn off the desk lamp, kissed him lightly on the forehead, and said, “Sleep now, good night.”

Early the next morning, Chen Yuncheng was woken up by the need to pee. When he woke up, he still had a headache because of the hangover, but he soon couldn’t care less because he found himself sleeping on Ning Junyan’s bed, wearing only a pair of underwear all over his body, and Ning Junyan was right behind him, one arm wrapped around his waist to hold him tightly.

Chen Yuncheng moved a little and Ning Junyan woke up, the arm immediately bound him even tighter, and his body pressed up against him impermeably.

Although Ning Junyan was wearing pyjamas, his pyjamas were thin, and his body’s reaction in the morning1morning wood *cough* was clearly conveyed to Chen Yuncheng.

Chen Yuncheng was even more anxious to leave.

Ning Junyan used both hands to hug him to prevent him from getting up, and said in a fierce tone, “Don’t leave!”

Chen Yuncheng said awkwardly, “You are hard.”

With his eyes still closed, Ning Junyan said calmly, “Because I’m a healthy adult man.”

Chen Yuncheng didn’t know what to say, so he could only say, “Let go of me first, I want to pee.”

Ning Junyan heard the words, put his arms around Chen Yuncheng’s hand and touched it down.

Chen Yuncheng broke out in a cold sweat, quickly grabbed Ning Junyan’s hand, and said, “What are you doing?”

Ning Junyan rubbed his nose against the back of Chen Yuncheng’s neck, “Try to see if you really want to pee, so I can carry you there.”

Chen Yuncheng felt that he was going crazy, “Stop making trouble.”

Ning Junyan asked him, “Do you remember what you said last night?”

Chen Yuncheng said without thinking, “No, I don’t.”

Ning Junyan then said, “You said you wanted to be my wife.”

Chen Yuncheng instantly blushed as he broke away from Ning Junyan’s embrace and turned around to look at him, saying in a good-natured and amused manner, “When did I say that?”

Ning Junyan said, “You don’t remember what you said? How do you know you didn’t say it?”

Chen Yuncheng was speechless for a while, he actually probably remembered the conversation between the two last night, he just lost his ability to think and was not unconscious at that time, even if he really didn’t remember, he didn’t believe he would say such things out loud.

His bladder was about to explode, Chen Yuncheng didn’t want to continue to bicker with Ning Junyan, and he didn’t want to get out of bed in just a pair of underwear, so he sat up and looked for his clothes.

Last night Ning Junyan had taken off his clothes and thrown them on his side of the bedside table. Chen Yuncheng had to pull the quilt to cover his lower body, and went over Ning Junyan to reach for his clothes.

Ning Junyan lay down and watched him struggle. He had no intention of helping in the slightest and said nonchalantly, “Don’t worry, forcing sex on you without your consent is r4p3, I won’t do that, I don’t want you to be upset.”

Chen Yuncheng finally got his trousers, he turned around and covered Ning Junyan’s mouth, and said, “Stop talking about it!” Chen Yuncheng’s face was still red as he said that.

Ning Junyan looked at him calmly.

Chen Yuncheng let go of his hand slowly, sat on the edge of the bed and put on his trousers, before he even had time to pull the zipper, he ran outside in a hurry.

He went to the bathroom to urinate, and then sat on the toilet cover and covered his face with his hands for a long time in a daze. He still remembered that he took the initiative to go to Ning Junyan’s room. Although he knew he hadn’t said anything about being a wife to Ning Junyan, alcohol was still not a good thing. He had woken up with his worries still in place, and he had gotten himself into more trouble.

Chen Yuncheng took a shower and changed his clothes. When he came out of the bathroom, he saw Ning Junyan put on his coat and was changing shoes at the entrance. He walked over and asked, “Going to work so early?”

Ning Junyan said, “I’m going to buy you breakfast.” After he said that, he reached out and hooked his hand over the back of Chen Yuncheng’s neck and gave him a kiss on the forehead, before leaving the house.

Chen Yuncheng stood in place for a while, raising his hand to gently press his chest.

After breakfast, Chen Yuncheng followed Ning Junyan to the hospital.

The police had notified Gu Yaojia about Zhou Yan’s criminal detention, and Gu Yaojia seemed more silent than usual. She sat and chatted with Chen Yuncheng in the ward for a long time before finally saying to Chen Yuncheng, “I’ll take him back to the hometown once Qiqi is discharged.”

Chen Yuncheng was not surprised, he just asked, “Has the decision been made?”

Gu Yaojia nodded, “I can’t live here alone with him.”

Chen Yuncheng said, “I understand.” He asked Gu Yaojia again, “Do you hate Zhou Yan?”

Gu Yaojia lowered her head and gently picked her nails, “Sometimes, I can’t tell. But Cheng ge, I’m not going to wait for him to come out.”

       Chen Yuncheng said, “I understand.”

Gu Yaojia didn’t say anything more, she just repeated again, “Thank you, Cheng ge.”

When Chen Yuncheng came out of the hospital, he received a call that someone wanted to rent the space of his kiosk.

The other party had already seen the kiosk and was waiting for him there, so Chen Yuncheng had no choice but to take a taxi and rush over there.

The kiosk was looked at by a middle-aged couple from out of town. They wanted to rent it out to open a small shop selling braised vegetables and deli food. The owner of the lottery shop had opened the door to let them see how it looked inside. They thought it was okay, after all, the nearby were all residential areas, and no matter the people’s age, everyone always needs to eat. It was common to buy one or two braised vegetable dishes to add to your meal when you have guests at home or are late from work.

Chen Yuncheng knew that they also felt that the rent here was relatively cheap, so they spent a lot of time negotiating the price with each other. Chen Yuncheng didn’t want to be too eager and finally said that everyone should go back and think about it, and there was no need to rush to finalise it.

The middle-aged couple expressed a little regret at not being able to persuade Chen Yuncheng at that time.

It was already past one o’clock in the afternoon, and Chen Yuncheng was thirsty and hungry, so he went to buy a bottle of water nearby and ordered a bowl of beef noodles from the noodle shop he used to frequent.

It was past meal time, and the owner of the noodle shop was free and sat next to Chen Yuncheng to chat with him.

The whole street knew about the smashing of Chen Yuncheng’s kiosk incident. The boss asked him what he planned to do after closing the kiosk. Chen Yuncheng said that he hadn’t figured it out yet.

The boss said, “Your friend who drives the Land Rover is a big boss, right? Are you planning to do business with him in the future?”

Chen Yuncheng had already finished drinking half of the bottle of water, tightened the cap, and said, “No, I’ll just wait and see.”

As he saw that Chen Yuncheng didn’t want to say anything, the boss sat for a while before getting up and leaving.

Just as Chen Yuncheng’s noodles were served, his cell phone rang again, this time it was from Boss Sun who he used to pick up the goods from.

“Sun ge?” Chen Yuncheng’s noodles were not evenly mixed, so he inserted his chopsticks into the noodle bowl and answered the phone first.

As soon as Boss Sun heard his voice, he asked, “What did you think about the matter I told you last time to meet my niece?”

Chen Yuncheng didn’t expect that the other party hadn’t given up yet, so he said a little funnily, “Thank you, Sun ge, I’m really not considering it.”

Boss Sun expressed his dissatisfaction with a “hey”.

Chen Yuncheng made random excuses, “I’m the only child in my family, and I’m still waiting to pass on the family name, so I can’t be the son-in-law.”

Boss Sun said, “Fine, let’s forget about it then. Have you found something to do now?”

“Not yet,” Chen Yuncheng picked up the chopsticks again, and casually stirred in the noodle bowl, “Do you have any job for me?”

Boss Sun laughed, “Actually, I recently took a shop in the newly built trade market in the north of the city, and I want to open another shop. Are you interested in managing the shop for me?”

Chen Yuncheng’s expression became more focused, “Are you still selling cigarettes and alcohol?”

Boss Sun said, “It’s the same as my current store. Wholesale tobacco, alcohol and beverages. You only need to guard the store every day, and then arrange deliveries to customers. If you don’t have enough manpower, you can recruit some yourself. The cost will be deducted, and you will be given a commission according to the turnover, how about it?”

Chen Yuncheng suddenly didn’t know what to say, he paused before saying, “Sun ge, thank you.”

Boss Sun’s voice sounded noisy on his end, “What do you mean by thanking me? Can you?”

Chen Yuncheng said, “Of course I can. I just want to thank you for remembering me.”

Boss Sun said, “What is there to thank? You were a small boss, but now and now I’m asking you to come work for me. I’m quite embarrassed to ask. You know that when doing business, the most fearful thing is to meet people who are dishonest. We’ve known each other for so long, I can trust you are an honest person, so I thought of you for the first time. Don’t thank me, if the business over there is doing well, I should thank you.”

Chen Yuncheng said, “Still, thank you.”

Boss Sun laughed, Let’s not talk so much, when are you free, I’ll show you the shop and we’ll slowly talk about it.”

Chen Yuncheng said, “I’m free anytime, just contact me.”

Boss Sun said okay, and then hung up the phone.

Chen Yuncheng picked up the chopsticks, tried to stir up the already heaped, and began to eat with big mouthfuls.

Chapter 47

When Long Zhanyu took Guan An Lin in to make a statement, Chen Yuncheng did not rush to leave, instead, he squatted at the door of the police station, and slowly finished the cigarette in his hand.

He was not addicted to smoking, nor did he actually like how the cigarette tasted, just that he was in a trance thinking that Ning Junyan must not like the taste.

After waiting for almost half an hour, Guan Anlin came out from inside. He walked in front of Chen Yuncheng with a gloomy face, without saying a word.

Chen Yuncheng’s feet were numb from squatting for so long, so he stood up and said to him, “Something happened to Zhou Yan.”

Guan Anlin gave a cold “En” and said, “I see.” Guan Anlin didn’t like Zhou Yan either, and Chen Yuncheng found that none of his friends around him liked Zhou Yan very much.

“Are you free tonight?” Guan Anlin asked him suddenly.

Chen Yuncheng said, “I’m free, let’s have dinner together.”

As soon as he finished speaking, he saw Long Zhanyu coming out of the car holding the car keys, looking like he was planning to leave after finishing his work. He called Long Zhanyu to stop, and asked, “Want to have dinner together?”

Long Zhanyu paused in his steps for a moment and nodded, “Let’s go.”

The three of them ate at a small restaurant on the side of the road, with a few dishes and a bottle of wine.

Guan Anlin accompanied Chen Yuncheng to drink, but Long Zhanyu said that he would drive later and didn’t drink, so he sat and ate the dishes while smoking.

“I can’t tell you more details,” Long Zhanyu leaned back in his chair, slouching, looking like he was going to fall asleep at any moment, “Too much of the talk could lead to a breach of confidentiality.”

Chen Yuncheng asked, “How long is the sentence?”

Long Zhanyu said, “A long time for sure, but at the moment it seems to be good that the sentence will not be death. I will look for the opportunity to reduce the sentence.”

Chen Yuncheng picked up the wine glass and silently poured himself wine.

Guan Anlin didn’t say much all night. He didn’t like Long Zhanyu, and he didn’t want to get too close to Long Zhanyu. This time he asked, “Where’s Zhang Wenyong?”

Long Zhanyu lifted his hand and wiped his face so that he could force himself to stay awake, “That fool Zhang Wenyong doesn’t want to plead guilty yet, let alone admit that he asked someone to smash up Chen Yuncheng’s kiosk. The amount of stolen cars alone is huge, with cars worth hundreds of thousands of dollars in them. The evidence is already stabilised properly, and it will make him go in and sit for more than ten years in jail. He will not be able to find you guys in trouble even after he comes out.”

After a while, Long Zhanyu couldn’t stay up any longer, so he said, “You guys take your time and drink, I’ll go first.” He was afraid that he would die suddenly if he didn’t sleep.

Chen Yuncheng said to him, “Be careful when driving.”

Long Zhanyu waved his hand, asked the boss to settle the bill, and walked towards the parking place on the side of the road.

Guan Anlin waited until he left before saying to Chen Yuncheng, “Drink less.”

Chen Yuncheng was very silent, he said, “I’m not drunk.”

Guan Anlin asked him, “Where do you live now?”

Chen Yuncheng looked up at him and said, “My friend’s house.”

Guan Anlin asked, “Is it the friend who drives the Land Rover?”

       Chen Yuncheng did not answer.

Guan Anlin stared at the half-eaten dish on the table. He reached out and picked up the chopsticks and put them in the bowl. After a while, he put them back on the table and leaned against the plate, and said, “I don’t know what is the relationship between you. You can’t keep staying at someone else’s house, can you?”

       Chen Yuncheng looked at him.

Guan Anlin didn’t look at Chen Yuncheng, and only said, “I’ve moved out of Zhang Wenyong’s place and rented a place for now, do you want to move in?”

Chen Yuncheng asked, “Where do you rent your place?”

Guan Anlin gave an address, it was close to the outskirts of the city, and there were many cheap remodelled rental houses nearby, after that he added, “Find something, and I’ll go with you.”

Chen Yuncheng said, “I—” He suddenly remembered something and stopped. There was originally an interview today, but last night he ran around until the early morning because of Zhou Yan’s affairs, and he forgot about it.

He took out his mobile phone and saw that a logistics company he had an appointment with had also sent him a text message, which he hadn’t even seen.

       Guan Anlin asked, “What’s wrong?”

Chen Yuncheng shook his head, raised his wine glass to clink it with Guan Anlin’s, and said, “Let me think about it.”

In the end, Chen Yuncheng drank too much, but he didn’t make a fuss even when he was drunk. He sat quietly, tilting his head, his cheeks slightly flushed.

Guan Anlin wanted to take him back, but Chen Yuncheng refused and insisted on taking a taxi back by himself.

Before leaving, Chen Yuncheng grabbed the clothes on Guan Anlin’s shoulders with one hand and said, “Don’t cause trouble for me anymore.”

Guan Anlin said with a cold face, “When did I cause you any trouble? Don’t treat me like Zhou Yan.”

Chen Yuncheng said, “I should have taught Zhou Yan a good lesson before, that brat, so carefree.”

Guan Anlin’s tone was not pleasant, “Zhou Yan is in his twenties, he has done things on his own, it’s not your job to worry about him.” After he said that, he stuffed Chen Yuncheng into a taxi by the side of the road, and then asked, not quite sure, “Do you know the address? Why don’t you go to my place today and stay overnight?”

Chen Yuncheng shook his head as he gave the driver the address, then said to Guan Anlin, “I’m going back, he’ll be angry later.”

Guan Anlin found his words inexplicable and could only assume he was drunk, but he felt uneasy and left the driver his number so that he could contact him if Chen Yuncheng passed out from drunk.

Chen Yuncheng was not so drunk that he was unconscious, he just had something on his mind. After drinking all night, he always felt that being drunk could solve his worries, but in fact, it didn’t work well. He sat in the back seat with his eyes closed, and his heart was still stuffy and uncomfortable.

It was past ten o’clock in the evening when he returned. He called Ning Junyan in the afternoon and said that he would not come back for dinner, but Ning Junyan only said yes, without asking him where he was going.

Now when Chen Yuncheng returned to Ning Junyan’s house, he opened the door and saw that the living room was dark, so he subconsciously walked in the direction of Ning Junyan’s room.

The lights in Ning Junyan’s room were on, and he was not asleep yet. He sat by the bed and read his thick English book.

When Chen Yuncheng opened the door, Ning Junyan looked up at him and asked, “You’re back?”

“En,” Chen Yuncheng replied, as he walked over towards Ning Junyan and stood by the bed, looking at him with a somewhat straight gaze.

Ning Junyan asked him, “What’s the matter?” Then he asked again, “Have you been drinking?” As he got closer, Ning Jun Yan could smell the smell of alcohol on Chen Yun Cheng’s body.

Chen Yuncheng looked at Ning Junyan for a long time, knelt down by the bed, got a little closer to Ning Junyan and called out to him, “Yanyan.”

Ning Junyan was about to close the book that was spread out on his lap, but when he heard him call him, he paused in his movements.

Chen Yuncheng’s voice was a little drunk and slurred, “I’m glad I got to know you guys.”

“Guys?” Ning Junyan put the book aside and looked up at him again.

Chen Yuncheng said, “You, Zhou Yan, you are all very good. Especially you,” he lowered his gaze, as if he was a little tired, and seemed to be distracted, “those years living with you were the happiest years I had as a child.”

Ning Jun extended a hand in front of him and said to him, “Come here.”

Chen Yuncheng didn’t hold his hand, only said, “It’s so hot.” He was still wearing thick clothes, and the room was so warm inside that Ning Junyan was only wearing thin pyjamas.

Ning Junyan said to him, “Take off your clothes if it’s hot.”

Chen Yuncheng lowered his head, unzipped the down jacket with a slightly clumsy movement, and raised his hand to take off the whole clothes.

Ning Junyan was sure that he was drunk, and said to him, “You are drunk.”

Chen Yuncheng shook his head, “I’m not drunk, I know what I’m doing. You know that the night I asked you to borrow money, Zhou Yan turned off his phone and ran back home. He tried to go to his mother to borrow money and ended up killing his stepfather. If I had told him earlier that I could borrow the money, he wouldn’t have done it.”

Ning Junyan asked, “Do you think you are responsible?”

Chen Yuncheng didn’t answer, he just said, “I didn’t say anything at the time because I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to borrow the money successfully and make him happy for nothing. Or maybe it would have been fine if I hadn’t given him the message that the police were investigating them and had them just arrest him that day.”

Ning Junyan listened quietly, watching the redness on his face gradually spread to his ears.

Chen Yuncheng was a little emotional, “Just like Guan Anlin, I thought I could help him at that time, but it turned out that I couldn’t help anything.” After he finished speaking, he bent down as if in pain, kneeling on the edge of the bed and curling his whole body up.

“But they are not your responsibility.” Ning Junyan got up and knelt in front of Chen Yuncheng, and reached out to touch his hair and the back of his neck, “You’re not their guardian, they chose to break the law themselves, it’s none of your business.”

Chen Yuncheng didn’t speak and curled up for a long time without moving.

Ning Junyan stretched out his hand to grab his arm, and lifted him up into his arms, then leaned against the bed with him in his arms.

Chen Yuncheng’s alcohol seemed to be coming on, and he frowned and said, “I’m very uncomfortable.”

Ning Junyan asked, “Where is it uncomfortable?”

       Chen Yuncheng said, “Everywhere.”

Ning Junyan asked him, “Do you want me to rub it for you?”

Chen Yuncheng didn’t answer, his eyes became hazy and he looked at Ning Junyan for a moment before asking him, “Yanyan, when did you come back?”

“Well,” Ning Junyan responded, “I’m back and will never leave you again, okay?”

Chen Yuncheng reached out and wrapped his arms around his neck, suddenly pressing his head slightly harder against his shoulder, hugged him tightly and said, “No, it’s good that you’re doing well, go back with your mum and dad.”

Ning Junyan turned his head sideways, pressed it against his ear and asked him, “Are you willing to part with me?”

“I’m reluctant.” Chen Yuncheng opened his eyes and looked at the ceiling blankly, “But I don’t have money, so I can’t feed us both.”

Ning Junyan asked him, “Then come and pick me up when you grow up, okay?”

Chen Yuncheng was stunned for a long time, not knowing what to answer.

Ning Jun extended his hand to touch his reddened ears, “Now that I have enough money to support both of us, no one can force us to steal and no one can beat you, can I not leave?”

Chen Yuncheng turned his head to look at him, they were too close, so close that they could only see each other’s eyes.

Ning Junyan said again, “Then you will be my wife, okay?”

Chapter 29

Suo Yang felt that what he could not resist the most was probably someone like Shen Huiming whose jokes were mixed with half-truths and frank sincerity. One minute you were laughing at him, and the next you were brought under his control.

Shen Huiming was smart and scheming, and the two of them would always go back and forth. However, this man would not always use tricks on himself, and when the right time came, he seemed to say something sincere without meaning to, which often poked at the heart.

Suo Yang leaned on the back of the chair and thought: If Shen Huiming wants to play with anyone’s heart, it would be easy to do so.

The few hours in Berlin seemed to have suddenly flown by and they had to return to the airport before they knew it.

On the way back, Suo Yang took a picture of the scenery outside the car window with his mobile phone, opened Weibo, and checked in as usual.

The photo was of a church. In fact, he felt a little regretful that he had just forgotten to take a photo when he was attending that wedding. It was quite worth commemorating it anyway.

Shen Huiming asked curiously, “What are you doing?”

Suo Yang never thought of hiding his Weibo account, there was absolutely no need for it, anyway, his Weibo was full of check-in records in various cities, and it was nothing to be ashamed of.

If there was something that might embarrass Suo Yang, it was probably that this kind of ‘ritual’ might be a bit childish and funny in some people’s eyes.

He handed the phone to Shen Huiming, “I’m posting one in every place I go.”

Shen Huiming glanced at it, and there were nearly a thousand Weibo posts.

“Actually, many of them are duplicate cities,” Suo Yang said. “I’ve been flying for so many years, and when I used to fly domestic flights I often had to visit two or three places in a day.”

       “It was tiring, wasn’t it?”

“It was quite enjoyable.” Suo Yang said with a smile, “I also got to eat good food from everywhere.”

Perhaps when you were doing what you like, no matter how busy you were, you would not feel tired.

It was rare for Shen Huiming to envy someone, but he felt that Suo Yang was the kind of person who lives very clearly, knowing what he wanted and only wanting what he wanted.

People with clear goals were always full of charm.

When they arrived at the airport, the two parted. Before it was time for Shen Huiming to check in, he found a random coffee shop and waited while working.

There was something Suo Yang was too embarrassed to tell Shen Huiming face to face, so after they parted, he sent a message to the other party—

I had a good time these few hours, thank you.

Suo Yang was actually a little ashamed, even if he didn’t really understand how busy Shen Huiming was, he could still imagine it. When he went to the coffee shop to look for Shen Huiming, the other party was busy reading documents while waiting for him, which made Suo Yang a little uneasy.

He didn’t like to owe others, for fear of wasting other people’s time and feelings.

However, he couldn’t tell Shen Huiming not to make time for him anymore, because he suddenly found that he was very selfish and enjoyed spending time with the other party very much.

He began to seriously consider the relationship between the two, and it was clear that the scales in his heart had tipped dramatically towards Shen Huiming.

However, it was too hasty to make a decision now, and Suo Yang has his own worries.

He was worried that he was fascinated by Shen Huiming’s tenderness just because he had no one to accompany him for too long.

He was also worried that Shen Hui Ming was only seeing a part of him now and that after spending time with him, he would be like others and find him boring.

Just wait a little longer, just a little longer.

Suo Yang was a little nervous, he hoped that Shen Huiming would be a little more patient with him.

It was only when he was changing into his uniform that he suddenly remembered that he had forgotten something very important. On the plane when he arrived, Shen Huiming had slipped him a note, which he had forgotten later in his busy schedule.

After changing his clothes, Suo Yang searched his pockets, touched the neatly folded note, opened it, and smiled after reading the line.

Shen Huiming wrote: My name is Shen Huiming, nice to meet you.

What kind of play is this?

       Suo Yang laughed out loud.

“Yang ge, what are you laughing at?” A guy in the same class leaned over to read it, but he didn’t see a word, and Suo Yang had already put away the note.

“Cut it out, don’t show it if you are not going to give me a look.” The guy said, “Some passenger must have slipped it to you again.”

As he adjusted his uniform, he muttered, “It’s a bad idea to fly with you!”

“Why?” Suo Yang turned to look at him.

“Why?” The other party grimaced aggrievedly, “Why do you say? All my handsome, natural and unrestrained charms are covered by your light! Flying with our company’s top-notch beauty, who would still see mediocre people like us!”

Suo Yang chuckled lightly, “Knock it off.”

“But it’s true,” the two tidied up and went out together, “Yang ge, to be honest, when I first came here, I had a crush on you for a few days!”

“…What?” Suo Yang didn’t know this guy very well. They had flown together a few times, but there wasn’t much contact. Moreover, he didn’t know that this guy was also gay. When he thought of the two of them that night in Moscow staying in the same room suddenly felt a little weird.

“I’m serious,” the boy said with a hey smile, “but don’t stress about it, right now I have nothing but feelings of admiration for you.”

       Admiration?

Suo Yang suddenly felt that he had reached mid-life.

“Mainly because I can’t afford to climb high, hahaha,” the two went to a meeting together, and the guy whispered in Suo Yang’s ear, “What kind of big boss haven’t you seen? This young flight attendant is no match for them.”

When he heard this, Suo Yang felt that something was wrong, and argued softly, “That’s not true.”

The other party listened, smiled, and bumped Suo Yang with his shoulder, “I saw everything.”

“Saw what?” Suo Yang subconsciously frowned, feeling that something was wrong, he quickly stretched it out.

“You came here with a guy just now, right? He’s pretty handsome. I’ve seen him on the plane.”

Suo Yang understood, he was with Shen Huiming and was seen.

Originally he wanted to say something, but Suo Yang suddenly felt that it was unnecessary.

He didn’t know this person well, so why talk so much? Anyway, this was all his own affairs, others could think what they liked, and he was not obliged to explain his life to everyone.

When he saw that Suo Yang didn’t speak, the other party only regarded him as acquiescing.

“So that’s why it was the clear choice for me to stop this early, how can I compete with someone on my terms!”

“It’s not the conditions that make this kind of thing better.” Suo Yang’s voice was a little cold. Although the other party didn’t say it clearly, he was treated as a snob in his words, which made him a little unhappy, despite his displeasure, he said politely, “It’s the heart.”

The other party wanted to say something, but was blocked by Suo Yang, “The crew chief is here, let’s hurry up and go to the meeting.”

After he finished speaking, Suo Yang quickly walked towards the direction of the crew chief, without giving him a chance to say more.

That was how it was originally.

Suo Yang thought: In this kind of love, especially the adult’s love, it is impossible not to consider the conditions of both parties. But shouldn’t you be sincere in the first place? If one is not sincere enough, what’s the point if the conditions are good?

In this kind of love, it was not about how much money you have, how many houses and cars you have, but how much sincerity you have.

After the meeting, Suo Yang took out his mobile phone and not surprisingly received a reply from Shen Huiming.

The other party replied: I am the one who should say thank you, I haven’t taken a vacation for a long time.

Suo Yang smiled and didn’t reply to the message.

The crew began to prepare for the flight. In fact, Suo Yang knew very well that every time at this time there were countless people waiting to board the plane, but this time he felt very different because there was somebody in those ‘countless people’ waiting for him.

When he stood at the door of the cabin to greet the passengers, although he knew he shouldn’t be, he was still distracted as he looked for Shen Huiming.

The first-class passengers arrived and boarded the plane one by one. He had a professional smile on his face and professional speech skills on his lips. Everything was in order, but when it came to Shen Hui Ming, something went wrong.

To everyone else, he said, “Hello sir, welcome to this flight.”

And when Shen Huiming appeared, Suo Yang smiled so much that his eyes were curved. He just looked at him and said, “Mr. Shen, good evening, I wish you a pleasant journey.”

Chapter 28

Suo Yang found that he was not very good at rejecting Shen Huiming. When facing this person, he couldn’t say ‘I’m undeserving of your affection’ as politely and distantly as he did to other people.

However, in the end, it was just a matter of him not wanting to refuse.

He knew all too well what was happening because Shen Huiming was not the only one who was looking forward to that date.

“Then you’d better arrange something exciting.” Suo Yang looked at him and smiled, “If it’s boring, there really won’t be a next time.”

Shen Huiming laughed when he heard it, “So if I behave well, I can have a next time.”

Suo Yang smiled without saying anything and walked forward quickly.

After the two came out, they first went to buy a pair of trousers for Shen Huiming. Suo Yang said jokingly, “Mr. Shen, you know my family’s conditions, and I can’t really afford to buy the same type of trousers to compensate you.”

Shen Huiming followed him into the shop and said with a smile behind him, “I don’t know much about your family’s condition, but on another matter, you are indeed a bit of a bully.”

“Huh?” Suo Yang looked back at him suspiciously, “What?”

“Why do you call me Mr. Shen again?” Shen Huiming said, “It’s really out of place.”

Suo Yang smiled apologetically, “I’m used to it.”

During the conversation, the clerk greeted them and said hello to them. Suo Yang meant to ask the clerk to help choose a pair of suitable trousers for Shen Huiming, but Shen Huiming said, “No, since you are the one who is paying, of course you have to choose it.”

It was pointless for the clerk to choose.

This was a matter in which Suo Yang was not in a position of saying anything, so he could only let the other party do as he pleased.

Shen Huiming followed behind Suo Yang who had his eyes on the trousers on the shelf peacefully, while he stared at Suo Yang.

It was a subtle feeling, like a couple shopping, but it felt really sweet.

Both Shen Huiming and Suo Yang were people who went to shopping malls for nothing. Even if they needed to buy something, they would go straight to a certain store with a clear goal, and leave quickly after choosing. “Window shopping” was never a term that existed in their world.

But both made an exception for the other.

Suo Yang had no experience in buying trousers for others, and he was afraid that the one he chose would not suit the other party’s wishes. He took a good look at one pair and looked back at Shen Huiming.

“Relax and choose anything,” Shen Huiming could see his thoughts, “Even if it’s a skirt you chose for me, I would happily wear it.”

Suo Yang smiled, “How do you know that I plan to buy you a skirt?”

Shen Huiming liked to see the way he joked around, with a touch of cute slyness.

He felt that not everyone could see this side of Suo Yang, which made him very proud.

“I can give it a try.”

Suo Yang laughed out loud, then turned back, raised his hand and picked up the pair of trousers hanging on the shelf.

It was actually just a very common pair, and Suo Yang tried to be as conservative as possible in order not to make any mistakes.

Shen Huiming took it over, “I’ll try them on.”

He followed the clerk to the fitting room. Suo Yang followed behind and watched his back.

When Shen Huiming went to try on his trousers, Suo Yang stood in front of the huge mirror and waited. He looked at himself and suddenly felt a little strange because he couldn’t imagine that he was gradually getting into an intimate relationship with someone.

His solid world has been shattered, as Shen Huiming waited for the opportunity to stand by his side.

This feeling was not as terrible as he had imagined; on the contrary, he liked it a bit.

And so, it was really impossible for a person to live on an island that was really isolated. There would always be a light boat with a fisherman on board.

When the two came out of the store, Shen Huiming was wearing the trousers Suo Yang bought for him, and when he walked his steps felt lighter.

Shen Huiming said, “Now I am almost a light year ahead of all my love rivals.”

Suo Yang smiled helplessly, “There really were love rivals.”

===

Shen Huiming had done his homework before and wanted to take Suo Yang for a stroll around Berlin.

But the time was short, only six hours, in fact, excluding the time on the road, it was less than six hours, and it was still in the morning. The most exciting part of the world would not wake up until night, so they couldn’t make it this time.

After the two left the airport, they went to have a simple meal first, and then planned to just take a short walk.

Night parties and performances, unique food and beer, at least today, were out of the question.

However, Shen Huiming didn’t feel regretful, he always had the feeling that time and mood slowed down when he was around Suo Yang’s side, and everything became relaxed and long-lasting, even if the two of them enjoyed the shade under a tree for a whole day, they wouldn’t feel bored but very comfortable.

All the plans were put on hold but they unexpectedly had a novel experience.

They wandered aimlessly after the meal, passed by a park in the middle of the street, and went in for a walk, unexpectedly caught a wedding.

At that time, they saw a church as soon as they passed through the garden in the middle of the street. Shen Huiming and Suo Yang were not religious people, and they were not interested in churches, but when they passed by, they saw two people in suits walking inside while holding hands, surrounded by a dozen relatives and friends, cheering and surrounding them.

Shen Huiming and Suo Yang slowed down, looked at them, and were suddenly called by one of the couple’s family and friends, inviting them to come along to the wedding.

Suo Yang subconsciously wanted to refuse, but Shen Huiming agreed with a smile.

Shen Huiming turned to look at him, “Let’s go, and get some happiness1the translation is 沾沾喜气 which means hoping that some luck and happiness (marriage happiness and luck) come to you. I’m not sure what’s the proper translation of it.”

Suo Yang smiled helplessly and followed him inside as if accepting his fate.

Attending the wedding of two strangers was a bit unbelievable to say the least, but when Suo Yang stood at the end of the procession with Shen Huiming as the couple walked into the church, Suo Yang was able to blend in a little bit with the atmosphere.

In Berlin, you could see gay people walking by holding hands everywhere, and even kissing on the corner of the street.

Same-sex marriage was legalized here a few years ago, and such weddings were nothing new.

It was certainly not new to the locals, but it was an unusual experience for Shen Huiming and Suo Yang.

They sat in the chairs at the back of the church and witnessed the moment when the two men became legal lovers with their relatives and friends. Neither of them could understand German, but they seemed to understand it all, and every word really stuck in their hearts.

When the two exchanged rings and kissed together, Shen Huiming turned to look at Suo Yang.

He didn’t know what Suo Yang was thinking, but at this moment he suddenly felt that he was taking advantage of the situation because, in this church, it wasn’t just the lovers, when God heard and blessed the couple, perhaps God could also be distracted to come to see them both and hear their heartbeats.

Shen Huiming greedily stole a little God’s blessing from the couple and made a wish that if possible, they would return to this church together one day in the future.

It was a kind of vow fulfilment wish.

When Shen Huiming and Suo Yang walked out of the church, they were dazzled by the sun and they raised their hands to cover their foreheads almost at the same time.

They looked at each other and smiled at the gesture, and Suo Yang said, “The weather is really nice.”

The two people standing in front of the church looked up at the blue sky together. At an altitude of 30,000 feet, there should be planes flying by at this moment. They couldn’t hear the rumbling sound, but they must exist.

Shen Huiming said, “Can I ask you a more personal question?”

       “Go ahead.”

“Have you ever thought about the kind of person you would spend your life with?”

Suo Yang put down his hands and walked down the steps.

Shen Huiming followed him, and the two sat on the pew in front of the church.

“I thought about it when I was a kid; when I was a teenager.” Suo Yang replied, “But later I found out that what I think about this matter is actually not important.”

       “Why do you say that?”

“Because imagination belongs to imagination, and reality can never make you feel so happy.” Suo Yang said, “But when you were a teenager, you didn’t understand this truth, and you always fantasized about some very beautiful things. When you grew up and saw everything clearly, you would know how childish you were at the beginning.”

Shen Huiming smiled, “Alas, in that case, I am still very childish now.”

       Suo Yang looked at him.

“Because I still fantasise about such things now,” Shen Huiming said, “When I attended the wedding just now, do you know what I was thinking?”

Suo Yang looked at him and didn’t speak, but he had his own guess in his heart.

He said to himself: Don’t be too sentimental.

Shen Huiming said to him, “I’m not telling you.”

“Huh?” Suo Yang couldn’t hold back and smiled inexplicably.

“It’s a secret,” Shen Huiming deliberately messed with him, “Wouldn’t it be embarrassing to tell you everything? What if you feel that you have understood me thoroughly, and there’s nothing new left?”

Suo Yang shook his head and smiled, “Why are you like this?”

“This is just how I am,” Shen Huiming rested his hand on the bench next to Suo Yang’s, and when the wind brushed by, it was as if the wind could blow each other’s body heat over, “especially childish.”

Suo Yang leaned against the back of the bench and smiled, looking at the kites in the distance, feeling that the sky of Berlin was so beautiful that he was intoxicated.

Was it just the Berlin sky?

       Of course not.

But Shen Huiming could have secrets, and so could he.

Suo Yang put the secret in his pocket and didn’t want to reveal a word to the other party, because he knew that Shen Huiming was not in a hurry to dig out his secret. Even though the other party had a telescope in his hand and didn’t intend to use it, he did not want to spy on each other ‘from a distance’. One needed to approach slowly, and then slowly walk in.

“I imagined that the person I would spend the rest of my life with would be a flight attendant,” Shen Huiming said suddenly, “working a lot, with the days and nights upside down, but enjoying the work.”

Suo Yang looked at him in surprise.

“That person would always be very polite and distant to people, but he was going to give me a nickname,” Shen Huiming said thoughtfully, “I think his surname should be Suo.”

Suo Yang sighed and laughed at him, “I thought you weren’t going to tell me?”

“I take it back, it’s hard to guess a man’s mind,” Shen Huiming looked at him, “It’s something I fantasised about as a teenager anyway, so it’s not out of the question to tell you about it.”

“Teenager?” Suo Yang glanced at him with a stern smile, “Nonsense.”

“That’s right, I’m talking nonsense.” Shen Huiming was very calm, “It’s something I was imagining when I was thirty years old, and I don’t know if it will come true in the future.”

Actually, the part where Shen Huiming share his “fantasy” was censored weirdly that it took me a very long time before I can decode what it was, but hopefully, I do guess it right (૭๑•̀ヮ•́)૭
I know I missed a chapter last week but I’m gonna post another chapter as a compensation if the time allows me to

Chapter 46

Chen Yuncheng’s mind went blank for a short while until his lips were forcefully opened, and the shallow kiss turned into a deep one.

This was an experience he had never experienced before. While his heart was beating violently, he reached out to push Ning Junyan.

Because of his resistance, Ning Junyan pressed himself even tighter against him, pressing his entire body against the wall of the corridor, and at the same time his hand pressed on the back of Chen Yuncheng’s neck slightly harder.

Chen Yuncheng didn’t know that the back of his neck would feel so tense, as a numb tingling sensation ran along his back, and he was forced to tilt his head higher, while his legs involuntarily bent up.

He had always known Ning Junyan was very strong, but he had rarely experienced the other party’s strength. This was the first time Chen Yuncheng had so clearly felt Ning Junyan’s strong control, that he couldn’t he couldn’t move under the cover of the other party’s body.

Chen Yuncheng almost wanted to give up resisting. From the start, his refusal was not so firm. Not only he agreed to this kiss, but he was also the one who instigated it first.

But Ning Junyan clearly planned to push forward, he continued the kiss for a long time, as if he had no intention of stopping, and the hand that was wrapped around Chen Yuncheng’s back waist began to slowly slide downwards.

Chen Yuncheng became frightened and used a lot of strength to push Ning Junyan away from him.

The two stood facing each other in the corridor, and the sensor light went on and off again.

Chen Yuncheng was slightly out of breath. He couldn’t continue to stare at Ning Junyan, so he lowered his head and bent down, propping his hands on his knees.

Ning Junyan was still looking at him and said, “It’s my first time kissing someone, I wonder if you like it or not?”

Chen Yuncheng instantly felt his face burn. He quickly glanced at Ning Junyan, then lowered his eyes again, unwilling to answer this question.

Ning Junyan said, “It might feel better with more experience.”

Chen Yuncheng couldn’t stand it anymore, he slid against the wall and sat on the ground, raised his hands to cover his face, and said, “Stop making trouble.”

Ning Jun took a step forward, squatted in front of him, and extended a hand towards him.

Chen Yuncheng saw it between the gaps between his fingers, and his hands were slightly lowered, only a pair of eyes were exposed.

Ning Junyan asked him, “Let’s go home?”

Chen Yuncheng was silent for a while, then stretched out a hand to Ning Junyan.

Ning Junyan pulled him to stand up, and then looked for the key with one hand, and opened the door with the other. He didn’t let go until he entered the door, and said to Chen Yuncheng, “Good night.”

Chen Yuncheng replied softly, “Good night.”

After going through too many things in one night, Chen Yuncheng was physically exhausted to the extreme, but his spirit was still high. He felt that all this was like a dream, whether it was the reunion with Zhou Yan from his murder to him surrendering, or his reunion with Ning Junyan to tonight’s kiss, it always felt unreal.

The bed beneath him was also unreal, it was so soft that it felt like one was constantly sinking when they lie on it and one couldn’t get up even after waking up; it was far less real than the narrow, hard bed Chen Yuncheng had in the kiosk.

It was late at night when Chen Yuncheng finally really fell asleep. He had many bizarre dreams until he was woken up by the ringing of the phone.

It was already dawn when he woke up, but the curtains in the room were very effective in blocking light, so the light was still dim. He fumbled to find the mobile phone under the pillow and picked it up without seeing who was calling.

Long Zhanyu’s voice came from the other side of the phone, saying to him, “The three people who smashed your kiosk have been caught, you have time this afternoon to identify them.”

“They got caught?” Chen Yuncheng’s mind went blank for a moment, “That efficient, Officer?”

Long Zhanyu said, “If we don’t arrest those people, we’re afraid they’ll get away.”

Chen Yuncheng remembered something, “Where’s Zhang Wenyong?”

Long Zhanyu said, “Zhou Yan testified that Zhang Wenyong was the main culprit of their car theft gang. He has been brought back and is still being interrogated.”

       Chen Yuncheng said, “Okay.”

When he hung up the phone, he glanced at the time, it was past ten o’clock in the morning. After he put on his clothes and left the room, Chen Yuncheng heard the silence outside, he opened the door of Ning Junyan’s room and saw that it was indeed empty.

Ning Junyan’s bed was neatly made and the curtains were open. He should have gone to work at the hospital first thing in the morning.

Later, he saw a message from Ning Junyan on the dining room table, saying that the breakfast was still warm in the rice cooker. He walked into the kitchen and saw that there were buns and eggs inside, so it must be the breakfast that Ning Junyan had gone out to buy early in the morning.

He was sitting alone in the dining room eating breakfast, and for some reason, he remembered Ning Junyan getting up early in the morning and going out to buy breakfast. It was too warm, and it didn’t match Ning Junyan’s cold temperament at all, so Chen Yuncheng couldn’t help smiling as he took a sip of milk and swallowed the last piece of bun crust.

In the afternoon, Chen Yuncheng went to the police station.

As soon as he entered the hall, he saw Long Zhanyu with a pair of dark circles under his eyes explaining something to a middle-aged woman.

Long Zhanyu seemed to have not slept since the night shift last night, and Chen Yuncheng felt that there was a smoke coming out of his head.

When he saw Chen Yuncheng approaching, Long Zhanyu dragged a colleague to continue dealing with the middle-aged woman and beckoned Chen Yuncheng to follow him in to make identification statements.

Chen Yuncheng looked at the photos and identified all three suspects who had smashed his kiosk.

With a cigarette in his mouth, Long Zhanyu said, “Okay, you can go now.”

Chen Yuncheng felt the smoke filling the whole room and he asked Long Zhan Yu, “Can’t get off work yet?”

Long Zhanyu sat on the chair, looked up at him, and said, “fvck, isn’t it cause of your affairs?”

Chen Yuncheng was actually more concerned about Zhou Yan than his own affairs, and he asked Long Zhanyu, “How is Zhou Yan?”

Long Zhanyu didn’t say anything for a while, then stood up and said to Chen Yuncheng, “Let’s go out and talk.”

The two of them walked to the parking lot yard in front of the police station. The air here was much better than inside.

Long Zhanyu said, “On the night when we first arrested Zhang Wenyong, Zhou Yan went to see Zhang Wenyong. It was you who gave him the slip at that time, right?”

Chen Yuncheng admitted, “At that time, he told me about Zhang Wenyong asking him to sell stolen cars. I told him that the police were already investigating Zhang Wenyong, he seemed quite nervous.”

“Then I guess he wanted to tip off Zhang Wenyong,” Long Zhanyu said, “but he came at a bad time that day, he was looking for Zhang Wenyong just when he ran into our operation to arrest people, he saw the officer and ran away alone. He said he didn’t know where to go at that time, so he thought he probably wouldn’t get away either, and wanted to get some money together before he was caught, so he went back home and tried to borrow money from his mother.”

Long Zhanyu didn’t say anything about this. Chen Yuncheng already knew the following things; when Zhou Yan went back to his hometown, his mother happened to be away for those two days. He must have borrowed money from his stepfather, was humiliated, and killed him on the spur of the moment.

Chen Yuncheng lowered his head and didn’t speak for a long time.

That night, he borrowed money from Ning Junyan to perform surgery on Zhou Yan’s son. He called Zhou Yan after returning home, but Zhou Yan’s cell phone was turned off. At that time, Zhou Yan should have been running away from the chase, afraid that he would be located, and had not used his own phone after that.

If he had not left with Ning Junyan that day, or if he had told Zhou Yan that he had a way to borrow money, perhaps Zhou Yan would not have run away, let alone killed someone.

Chen Yuncheng felt an indescribable discomfort in his heart. He stood quietly for a while, and asked Long Zhanyu, “Can you give me a cigarette?”

Long Zhanyu handed him a cigarette and lit it for him, “What? Do you suddenly want to smoke?”

Chen Yuncheng shook his head and said nothing.

At this time, a taxi pulled up in front of the police station. Chen Yuncheng saw Guan Anlin get off the car, and when Guan Anlin looked up, he saw Chen Yuncheng. Neither of them spoke.

Long Zhanyu patted Chen Yuncheng on the shoulder and said, “Your brother is here to testify for you. He can prove that Zhang Wenyong asked those three people to smash your kiosk.” After he said that, Long Zhan Yu walked over towards Guan Anlin.
