It’s Hard to Escape From the Omegaverse Trope!

Chapter 20 – It’s hard to escape the Omegaverse trope!

Chapter 20

Qu Di tossed and turned all night, thinking about how, in a moment of impulsiveness, he had ended up with Shu Yi. He felt like he had no self-control.

He licked his lips, even though he had already washed up, he still felt the taste of peach liqueur in his mouth, fresh and sweet, filling his entire being.

He sighed and finally got out of bed. He found his notebook where he recorded his inspirations. It was filled with notes and some quirky drawings.

He had already started preparing his first work after graduation. When he had nothing to do as a child, he liked to daydream and create a world of his own in his mind. That’s why he chose this major in college.

He had already outlined the story and had a rough idea of what he wanted to write. He took out his laptop and typed the first word…

When inspiration struck, time always flew by. Unbeknownst to him, seven hours had passed, and it was time to get up. Qu Di leaned back in his chair and stretched his stiff shoulders and wrists. He was tired but satisfied. If he could, he would continue writing, but for now, he was still Tang Xiyan’s assistant.

Since they were staying on the same floor, after Qu Di finished his morning routine, he planned to call Tang Xiyan to have breakfast. Just as he reached Tang Xiyan’s door, the door next to it opened. Shu Yi was dressed casually, looking sharp and well-groomed from head to toe. He seemed energetic, a stark contrast to Tang Xiyan, who often looked tired in the morning.

It was clear that artists who didn’t need assistants to worry about them were different…

“Good morning,” Shu Yi walked over, greeting Qu Di as if they were old friends. “Are you here to wake Xiyan up?”

Qu Di nodded. “Yes, you’re up quite early. Why didn’t you sleep in a bit?”

Shu Yi had a knowing look. “I was too happy last night and couldn’t sleep, so I woke up early.”

Others might have asked what happened, but Qu Di knew all too well. His cheeks flushed as he said, “I… I need to wake Xiyan up. I won’t say more.”

“Alright, see you later,” Shu Yi seemed to be in a good mood and even walked away with a spring in his step.

Qu Di only snapped out of it after Shu Yi disappeared from his sight. He scolded himself for being so useless, as he always seemed to be teased by Shu Yi every time they met.

He knocked on Tang Xiyan’s door. Tang Xiyan was probably still asleep. After waiting for a while, the door finally opened. Tang Xiyan, with a messy head, stared at him with a displeased expression. “What do you want?”

Qu Di had grown used to Tang Xiyan’s morning grumpiness. At first, he would try to cheer him up, but he had realized that Tang Xiyan was all bark and no bite. As long as he gave him some space to cool down, he would return to normal in no time.

Qu Di pushed him back into the room. “Get up quickly, we’re going to have breakfast in the hotel restaurant.”

At this time of day, Tang Xiyan was usually in a terrible mood when he just woke up. He immediately returned to his bedroom, fell onto the soft bed, motionless. His voice sounded muffled. “I’m so tired… I won’t have breakfast. I’ll sleep a bit more.”

“Today you have morning scenes. You can’t skip breakfast.”

Tang Xiyan fell silent, and Qu Di could tell he was not in the mood to argue. Qu Di tried to pull him up, but Tang Xiyan pushed him with a little force and brought Qu Di down with him. They were now very close, and Qu Di caught a whiff of the distinct scent of Alpha pheromones. He had never quite figured out what this smell was, but it was like the scent of the sea breeze when standing by the shore. Alpha had pulled him down and placed his hand on Qu Di’s waist. He squinted, turning to look at Qu Di, “You should get more sleep.”

Suddenly, he fell silent. The two of them were very close, and he could clearly see the tiny hairs on Qu Di’s smooth face. His eyes were captivating, with pupils slightly larger than usual, giving off an innocent vibe. At this moment, he seemed somewhat angry, with a hint of redness at the corners of his eyes, frowning at Qu Di. Tang Xiyan felt an itch in his heart…

How did he not notice before that Qu Di was quite good-looking, even more so than an Omega?

“Will you please get up for me!” Qu Di pulled Tang Xiyan’s hand and tried to get him up.

Tang Xiyan was annoyed by the disturbance. With a slight force, he pulled Qu Di closer, and Qu Di fell beside him, very close. He could clearly smell the Alpha’s pheromones, and he had never quite figured out what this smell was, but it was like the scent of the sea breeze when standing by the shore.

After pulling Qu Di down, Alpha’s grip on his waist lessened. Seizing the opportunity, Qu Di pushed him away and got up.

“I see you’re awake now. Get up quickly. Today, I’ll allow you to have half a cup of milk tea,” Qu Di said, and added, “Less sugar, no cream, and pearls.”

Normally, Tang Xiyan would have jumped up and complained, but today he was unusually quiet. Qu Di felt something was amiss. He approached and touched Tang Xiyan’s forehead. “You’re not running a fever.”

Tang Xiyan turned away, and his voice suddenly lowered, sounding muffled. “You can leave. I’ll get up right away.”

“I can wait for you here,” Qu Di said. He used to wait in Tang Xiyan’s room when he lived with him, and sometimes he even helped him tidy up the messy room.

“No,” Tang Xiyan’s voice grew louder, and it was clear that he wouldn’t take no for an answer.

Qu Di didn’t think much of it and eventually left the room, reminding him before closing the door, “I’ll be right outside. Hurry up.”

If he had stayed a little longer, he might have noticed the sudden increase in Alpha pheromones in the room, and that the carefree Alpha had unexpectedly become hard in the presence of a Beta.

His face turned bright red, like a child seeing their crush for the first time, feeling unsure and somewhat scared. He couldn’t believe that he was reacting to a Beta. Was there something wrong with him?

He lay there motionless, his mind finding countless excuses. Perhaps it had been too long since he had relieved his desires… and it was early in the morning, and everyone was full of energy. Qu Di had coincidentally appeared in front of him…

It had nothing to do with him. It was just a physiological response.

Two minutes passed, and he finally convinced himself. The feeling gradually subsided, and he got up to wash, but he realized he couldn’t let Qu Di come to his room early in the morning. A single man shouldn’t behave like this. An assistant should maintain a certain distance from their artist.

But he was carefree, and he soon forgot the incident and behaved as usual. When he went out, he placed his coat on Qu Di’s shoulders, and Qu Di naturally put it into his bag. At breakfast, Tang Xiyan was already full, so Qu Di ate slowly. Tang Xiyan leaned against him like a boneless man, ignoring all thoughts of “maintaining a distance.”

Qu Di shrugged and asked, “Aren’t you going to eat more?”

Tang Xiyan looked at the oatmeal and fruits he had finished and said with some disdain, “I can’t eat that anymore. I’d throw up if I did.”

Qu Di didn’t try to persuade him. He concentrated on his own food. At this point, Shu Yi came over with a small piece of cake and placed it in front of Qu Di. He glanced at Tang Xiyan and said, “I got too much of this. You can have it.”

Tang Xiyan heard Shu Yi’s voice and sat up, stretching lazily. “Isn’t this the limited edition brownie? I’ll take it!”

The hotel’s buffet breakfast, especially the morning pastries, were very popular. Brownies, in particular, were often unavailable if you didn’t come early. At least Tang Xiyan, who loved to sleep in, had never seen them.

Shu Yi lightly pushed his hand away before he could touch it and said with a smile, “Let’s not eat this. It’s high in calories. Let Qu Di have it.”

Tang Xiyan found it strange that Shu Yi was being somewhat passive-aggressive, but he appeared to have a good attitude. Since the artist didn’t want to eat it, he thought Shu Yi was just trying to be friendly with Qu Di.

Today, Tang Xiyan’s scenes were concentrated in the morning and mostly involved acting with Shu Yi. As for Qu Di, he had no scenes but was present. Tang Xiyan brought two bottles of drinks, giving one to Qu Di.

Qu Di was pleasantly surprised; they usually had very little interaction.

“Thank you,” he said.

Wen Gu, the naturally gentle and tender Omega, was very pleased. He hadn’t made a mistake. Qu Di was indeed a very nice person. It seemed like asking for his help wouldn’t be a mistake.

The two fell into a brief silence. Qu Di thought Wen Gu had nothing more to say, but suddenly, Wen Gu asked, “What kind of Omega does Xi Yan like?”

Chapter 19 – It’s hard to escape the Omegaverse trope!

Chapter 19

Qu Di was still mulling over things when his phone suddenly vibrated. He picked it up and saw that Shu Yi had sent him a message.

Shu Yi: “Are you asleep?”

It was quite clear that Shu Yi was asking knowingly. It was still early, and everyone had just returned to the hotel. How could anyone be asleep already?

Qu Di found a comfortable position, lying on the bed. His fair legs were bent behind him, swaying slightly. The smile on his face revealed his current good mood.

Qu Di: “Not yet.”

Shu Yi: “Open the door, I’m outside your room.”

Qu Di: “?”

He quickly got off the bed and hurried to the door, opening it with some impatience. However, it was eerily quiet outside, with no one in sight.

Qu Di: “Are you playing a joke on me?”

After a while, Shu Yi replied to his message.

Shu Yi: “Why did you move without telling me?”

He had brought a specially ordered dinner to surprise Qu Di, but instead, he found his roommate and was told that Qu Di had moved out.

Qu Di realized that Shu Yi had gone to the room downstairs. He quickly asked if anyone had seen him. It wasn’t surprising that he was a bit paranoid, as these days, even the slightest clue could be turned into a sensational story by the media.

Shu Yi: “It’s okay, no one saw me except your roommate. I told him it was Xi Yan who asked me to bring dinner to you.”

Qu Di: “I’m on the 53rd floor.” He added, “Right across from your room.”

Shu Yi didn’t ask any more questions and simply said, “I’m coming up now.”

Qu Di: “Alright.”

He closed the door and waited quietly, leaning against it. Qu Di seemed to have completely accepted Shu Yi’s affection, and his satisfaction was evident. He couldn’t resist this person, who had quietly entered his life like a spring breeze. Once you realized it, that tiny feeling had taken root and couldn’t be removed.

Not long after, he heard a faint knock on the door. He opened it to let Shu Yi in. The whole process felt like a secret rendezvous.

Qu Di seemed to realize this and felt a bit embarrassed, stumbling over his words, “Why are you here so late?”

Shu Yi put the dinner he had brought on the table and then took off his shoes to put on the disposable slippers at the door. He said, “Originally, I was planning to bring you dinner, but since there’s no one else in your room now, I found an excuse to come in and have dinner with someone I like.”

This statement was quite explicit, and Qu Di couldn’t resist the teasing. He blushed and couldn’t speak, but he didn’t kick Shu Yi out. Instead, he obediently took the things Shu Yi brought and walked inside.

Shu Yi looked around the room, which was clean and tidy, with his suitcase on the floor, untouched. He sat down on the couch in the living room as if he were the owner of the place. Qu Di, on the other hand, followed him like a shy bride, walking quietly and trying not to make a sound.

Shu Yi beckoned to him, “Come here, this is your territory. I’m just here to keep you company. Don’t be nervous.”

Qu Di stammered, “Are you… Are you here for something?”

Shu Yi took the wooden chopsticks from Qu Di’s hand, picked up a piece of eel sushi, and brought it to Qu Di’s lips, saying, “Try it. The eel here is very fresh.”

Qu Di wanted to take the chopsticks back and eat by himself, but Shu Yi held on to them firmly. He had no choice but to eat in this ambiguous manner.

“How is it?”

His mouth was full, and he couldn’t speak, so he just nodded to indicate that it was delicious. That was the truth. The most expensive meal he had ever eaten was at the Western restaurant Yang Ji took him to for his birthday, which cost nine hundred yuan, including the three hundred he paid to the violinist.

The eel was fragrant but not greasy, with a hint of roasted flavor. Even without dipping it in anything, the taste was perfect. He chewed a few times and swallowed reluctantly. Although the sushi box was quite full, there were many varieties, and one flavor only had one or two pieces.

“Next time, don’t buy something so expensive. I don’t understand this stuff, it’s a waste of money.”

“Okay, tell me what you want to eat next time.”

Qu Di felt like he had fallen into a trap…

“You should eat too. I can’t eat much at night, and it would be a waste.”

He handed the chopsticks back to Qu Di, saying, “You eat first, and if you can’t finish it, I’ll eat the rest.”

Qu Di didn’t refuse. He had realized that no matter what he said, it wouldn’t make a difference. Even though Shu Yi was gentle, there was still a hint of alpha dominance in his bones.

In the end, they finished the meal separately, sharing a few drinks. The Japanese sake they had wasn’t very strong; it tasted more like peaches, sweet and juice-like, with a hint of alcohol. Qu Di didn’t realize how many cups he had consumed.

“Don’t drink so fast,” Shu Yi reached out to wipe away a drop of water at the corner of Qu Di’s mouth but then paused. Perhaps it was the perfect atmosphere, or maybe it was his own expectations.

In any case, when Shu Yi kissed him, Qu Di didn’t pull away. He looked at Shu Yi with watery eyes, slightly intoxicated, as Shu Yi got closer. He heard his own heart rate quicken, and his hand, which was placed at his side, clenched into a fist.

In the moment when Shu Yi kissed him, Qu Di’s mind went blank, and he felt a bit dizzy. Shu Yi’s lips, naturally cool, carried a faint taste of peach-flavored sake, which was now quite familiar.

Despite having had quite a few drinks, Qu Di felt that Shu Yi’s taste was stronger.

As Shu Yi wrapped his arm around Qu Di’s waist, he closed his eyes, and his hand unintentionally moved to Shu Yi’s neck. Then, something wet and soft parted his lips, seeking a deeper connection.

Just then, someone knocked on the door, followed by Tang Xiyan’s loud voice, “Qu Di! Qu Di!”

Qu Di snapped out of his daze, pushing Shu Yi away abruptly, and stood up with a rush. He didn’t dare to look at Shu Yi and turned his back, remaining silent.

The knocking on the door grew louder. Shu Yi stood up, his voice somewhat husky, saying, “If you don’t mind, I’ll hide in your room for a while.”

“Uh… Okay, I’ll go and open the door.”

The two of them went their separate ways. Qu Di patted his own face and tried to relax, making himself appear less awkward. He straightened his clothes, took a deep breath, and then opened the door.

“Why didn’t you answer your phone? I filled in the wrong information for the delivery, so he called me, and I came to pick it up.”

Qu Di took the takeaway from him, said thank you, and tried to usher him out.

Tang Xiyan found his behavior strange, blocked the door, and examined his face closely. Finally, he put his hand on Qu Di’s forehead and asked with some concern, “Are you running a fever?”

Qu Di shivered and slapped his hand away, “No… No, it’s nothing. I just fell asleep and the blanket was a bit suffocating.”

“Oh, I see. Well, I’ll leave then. Eat when you’re full and then go to sleep.”

“Okay.”

As he turned around, Tang Xiyan seemed rather impatient as he closed the door abruptly. Tang Xiyan, in hindsight, began to ponder. He seemed to have detected the scent of Alpha pheromones… something peach-scented?

Oh well… It must be that he’s just too tired. There couldn’t possibly be an Alpha in Qu Di’s room.

Qu Di looked at the porridge in his hand and felt a bit troubled. He was already full.

At that moment, Shu Yi walked out of Qu Di’s room, and when he saw the food in Qu Di’s hand, he asked, “Is this from Xi Yan?”

Qu Di replied with a nod, “Yes.”

“He seems to be very good to you.”

For some reason, Qu Di felt a hint of jealousy in Shu Yi’s tone, but before he could think it through, Shu Yi approached him and patted his head gently. He then said softly, “I’m going now.”

At that moment, all other thoughts left Qu Di’s mind. He nodded and said, “Okay…”

Once Shu Yi left Qu Di’s room and closed the door, his smile vanished. His expression became blank and somewhat gloomy. He pulled out a handkerchief he carried with him, furrowed his brow as he wiped his hands and lips, and then threw the seemingly clean handkerchief into the trash bin by the door.

Chapter 18 – It’s hard to escape the Omegaverse trope!

Chapter 18

Qiu Fei threw the newspaper to Tang Xiyan and, in passing, gave this person who sat without any posture a kick. “Return to the set tomorrow and resume filming.”

Tang Xiyan didn’t pay him any attention, continuing to lie on the sofa bonelessly, holding a phone and not sure whom to message next. “Understood.”

The news of Yang Ji’s arrest had already caused quite a stir on the internet. Although he wasn’t famous, he had a position in the “Mountains and Rivers” launch ceremony. Everyone thought that Tangyi Entertainment was going to promote new talents, but they didn’t expect him to lose popularity so quickly. There were many people on the internet making sarcastic remarks, some even implicating the company.

He frowned as he looked at the messages he sent three hours and two hours ago. He felt a bit anxious. Why hadn’t Qu Di replied to his messages yet? He learned about Yang Ji’s arrest and was ecstatic. He had gone to pick him up yesterday, only to be told that he had already been released on bail.

He thought for a moment and decided to send a few more messages.

Xiyan: 【When are you coming back to work? Qiu Fei said he tried to contact you, but you haven’t returned his call.】

Xiyan: 【Why don’t you come over tonight? I’ll treat you to a big meal.】

Xiyan: 【The production is resuming tomorrow; make sure to be there.】

He stared at the messages for half an hour until the other person finally sent him a reply.

Qu Di: 【Mm.】

Just one word, followed by a period. Tang Xiyan seriously examined the message for a long time, not sure if this “Mm” meant Qu Di would come back to work or if it was about coming over for dinner tonight.

He agonized for a while and then decided to call the person. In truth, he had been feeling quite guilty. During the time when Qu Di was falsely accused, he had done nothing. He was afraid that Qu Di would be disheartened, resign, and disappear, so he hadn’t dared to call him.

At this moment, Qu Di was lost in thought at home. He had made a bowl of noodles for himself, but even after the noodles had gone soft, he hadn’t touched them. He seemed to still be intoxicated by that kiss from yesterday, an Alpha’s kiss with a hint of minty pheromones. It had been just a moment, but Qu Di remembered that soft touch vividly.

“Qu Di, I’m pursuing you.” Those were the last words Shu Yi had left him.

With just that kiss and that statement, he had a restless night. Today, he had been in a daze, even forgetting to respond to Tang Xiyan’s messages.

Suddenly, his phone rang, startling Qu Di, who had been lost in thought. Even though he wasn’t consciously aware of it, there was an underlying anticipation in his heart.

It was Tang Xiyan.

He breathed a sigh of relief but felt a slight twinge of disappointment.

“Hello? Qu Di?”

“Is something the matter?”

“Why did it take you so long to reply to my messages? How about I treat you to dinner tonight, or you can come to my place, and we can order takeout.” Tang Xiyan looked at the notebook in front of him filled with the names of various takeout restaurants. He was ready to fulfill any request.

“No, it’s okay. I’ll just eat something at home. You go ahead and eat.”

“Don’t say that! We’re celebrating your release. Those places are bad luck. Consider it a welcome-back treat from me.”

Qu Di, however, wasn’t swayed at all and rather bluntly revealed, “Have you forgotten? You need to eat moderately these days. You had hotpot the other day, and even if I come over, we can only eat light. So, let’s forget it.”

What was with this contemptuous tone?

“Well…”

“I’m tired. I’ll come to pick you up in the morning tomorrow. I’ll go by myself now, so you don’t need to wait for me.”

“…”

Listening to the busy tone on the phone, Tang Xiyan was engulfed in deep guilt and unease. It was clear that there was some resentment brewing.

The next day, except for Wengu, who was still in the hospital, the rest of the cast and crew were in place. As for Yang Ji’s role, it had been assigned to a beta actor named Wei Xuan, who belonged to Tangyi Entertainment. Wei Xuan wasn’t exactly a newcomer; he had been acting in TV dramas for several years but had never achieved much fame, usually playing minor roles.

Wei Xuan appeared to be easygoing, speaking softly and gently. He had a comforting familiarity about him, but compared to Shu Yi, he lacked some of the arrogance and confidence.

Qu Di arrived early in the morning, learning that Tang Xiyan hadn’t arrived yet. He stood by the makeup room door and kept texting him in case he overslept, fearing he might miss his call. Surprisingly, Tang Xiyan arrived shortly after him.

Tang Xiyan spotted his assistant leaning against the door, engrossed in his phone, and his face lit up. He approached, taking three steps in two.

With a tone filled with excitement, he exclaimed, “Qu Di!”

Qu Di looked up and smiled at him, saying, “You came early, but why didn’t you respond to my messages?”

Tang Xiyan hurriedly took out his phone and realized it was on silent. He chuckled and said, “I forgot to check my phone.”

“Go inside, the makeup artist is waiting. Later, Wei Xuan will be here. Remember to be friendly to him and not give him a hard time.”

Qu Di usually found these instructions annoying, but today he obediently agreed, saying, “I’ll follow your lead.”

With this issue resolved, the atmosphere on the set became livelier again. However, whenever people saw Qu Di, they couldn’t help but show sympathy and pity, which made him uncomfortable. Wengu was absent today, and the scenes being shot involved Tang Xiyan and Wei Xuan.

Qu Di continued to watch idly from the side, occasionally going to pass water when needed. Shu Yi arrived later and was changing his clothes behind. The moment Shu Yi appeared, Qu Di, as if with telepathy, turned to look at him. Shu Yi smiled at him, and Qu Di quickly turned away, his heart racing.

He felt a warmth approaching from the side and realized that someone was standing beside him. He tried to retract his hand but found it firmly held by the other person. Shu Yi’s hand was cool, dispersing the warmth from Qu Di’s hand.

“Shu… Shu Yi…” Qu Di whispered. “People might see.”

A deep, rich voice responded, “My sleeves are long enough. Just for a little while, it’s okay.”

He had never known Shu Yi could be so bold.

Shu Yi was wearing a long-sleeved robe with layers upon layers of fabric. Their hands hung down and weren’t visible to others. It looked like they were standing closer, which would obscure Qu Di’s hand.

Qu Di, blushing and not daring to look up, held a water bottle that had started to sweat. He couldn’t help but focus on the hand that was slowly warming his own.

Shu Yi subtly turned his head to look at the pale neck of the person beside him. He secretly held the entire hand in his own. Qu Di was quick-witted and glanced at Shu Yi with a fearful look. He was anxious but didn’t dare to move. This “secretive encounter” in front of everyone made him very nervous.

“Qu Di!”

When the scene was over, Tang Xiyan loosened his clothes and fanned himself with his hand. He didn’t notice the small assistant in his team and Shu Yi’s subtle actions.

Shu Yi didn’t make things difficult for him and naturally let go of his hand. Qu Di watched Shu Yi with unease for a moment, then hurried over to hand Tang Xiyan the salad he had ordered. Shu Yi, acting nonchalant, walked over to chat with the director as if nothing had happened, without even sparing a glance for Qu Di.

“Why do you keep staring at the director?”

“I didn’t…” Qu Di snapped back to reality, took out a small fan from his bag, and began to fan Tang Xiyan.

Tang Xiyan didn’t ask any further and continued working after drinking some water.

After that, Qu Di avoided getting close to Shu Yi. Whenever he approached, Qu Di found an excuse to move away. Fortunately, they hadn’t interacted much in the past, so no one noticed anything unusual.

Shu Yi, on the other hand, noticed that Qu Di was avoiding him. After a few unsuccessful attempts to approach, he gave up. There was no rush; they had all the time in the world.

That night, he was informed that Tang Xiyan had personally paid for him to switch to a larger room on the same floor as his. He had even arranged for his luggage to be moved for him. The photographer sharing the room with him was quite envious of him having such a good boss.

Qu Di went to pick up the room key, and Tang Xiyan suddenly realized he hadn’t given it to him yet. He bit into the salad that Qu Di had ordered for him and searched his room for a while before finally finding it. “It’s the one right across from Shu Yi’s room. Take it.”

“I told you not to waste money. Staying downstairs is fine.”

Tang Xiyan was determined to make amends for his guilt and insisted that he stay in the room. He handed the room key to Qu Di, impatiently saying, “Stop talking! If I say you should stay, you stay. Besides, you’ve already paid for it. Don’t worry; your artist isn’t that poor. Staying in a hotel won’t bankrupt me.”

In reality, this was a hotel under Tangyi’s management. He had used his connections to arrange it, and Qu Di didn’t have to pay for it.

Qu Di, with no other choice, took the room key and reminded Tang Xiyan to inform him about everything. Tang Xiyan readily agreed, promising to keep him updated. He had no intention of mentioning that he had ordered an almost one hundred yuan takeout for him.

After taking the room key, Qu Di went into his room. The layout was similar to Tang Xiyan’s room, but it was much more comfortable. It seemed that having money really made a difference. Even though it was just a bed, this one was much more comfortable than the one downstairs. He even detected a faint scent of incense in the air.

He flopped onto the bed, exhausted, and felt as though he had been thrown onto a soft cloud. Rich people really knew how to live. It was the same bed, but this one was much more comfortable. He thought he could smell a subtle hint of incense.

He lay on the bed, staring at the bedside lamp and drifting into daydreams. Suddenly, Shu Yi’s face appeared in his mind, and the hand that he had held today seemed to start tingling. The warm breath of both of them seemed to intertwine secretly in the air…

He raised his hand and looked at it against the light, and suddenly, he started smiling like a fool.

This was terrible… He had started to develop feelings.

It was just a tiny gesture, but it was as if he had been deprived of oxygen. He was nervous and feeling out of control. But he knew deep down that Shu Yi wasn’t someone he could keep.

What should he do?

Chapter 17 – It’s hard to escape the Omegaverse trope!

Chapter 17

During the day, Qu Di had slept too long, so at this moment, he couldn’t sleep at all. He turned over, found his phone, turned it on, and checked the battery, which was at a pitiful 31%. As soon as he powered it up, he saw 109 missed calls and numerous messages, including hundreds of messages on social media apps that were rarely used.

First, he checked the missed calls. Besides mostly unknown numbers, there were only two familiar ones: Qi Shan and his mother. What surprised him was that his stepfather had also called him several times. He had been staying at the police station and had no idea about what was happening outside or the fact that his stepfather had been suspended due to his actions.

He decided to call his mother first. The call rang for a long time before she picked up, and her voice sounded cautious, “Is that you, Qu Di?”

“Mother.”

As soon as she heard his voice, his mother started complaining with a hint of tearfulness, “How could you do such a thing? Do you want to kill us? There are people staking out our house every day. Mother is too scared to go to school, and your stepfather is suspended for investigation because of your actions… Why don’t you answer your phone when we call? You’re like a jinx. You brought this on us! I shouldn’t have brought you here in the first place! You’re nothing but trouble, causing all this trouble!”

These words hit him like bombs, and then they ignited around him like a fierce fire. He was at a loss and could only say instinctively, “I’m sorry.”

But his mother wasn’t willing to let him off the hook, “Sorry? What good does ‘sorry’ do? I gave you money to live on your own. Wasn’t that enough? I provided for you, and all you do is cause trouble. I just want a normal life.”

So that was it? He was just a burden. The familial warmth he had imagined before was nothing more than his mother’s way of pushing him away. He had foolishly cherished this meager affection as “maternal love.”

His own mother truly had no feelings for him.

He said in a muted voice, “I’m sorry, Mother.”

But his mother still didn’t relent. She cried even harder, “Zhiping wants a divorce! Can you Qu family people just leave me alone? You’ve ruined my life. Your father and you are both vampires, sucking my blood, and your father forced me to marry him. Now you’re ruining my life again! Qu Di, why don’t you just die?”

Qu Di, why don’t you just die?

Qu Di shivered all over, a chilling feeling surging from the depths of his soul. Those painful memories slowly resurfaced. There was a time when someone had whispered in his ear and said, “Qu Di, why don’t you just die?” It was all because he wasn’t the Alpha his father wanted.

Fear invaded his body, and he felt as if the voice in his ear was a demon from hell, ready to tear his tendons, drink his blood, strip his flesh from his bones, and then spit on him, saying, “Garbage.”

“Stop it…”

He threw his phone against the wall, and the screen shattered. Cracks spread out like spiderwebs. Everything fell silent.

Qu Di felt terribly cold, as if he had been thrown into a ditch in the village on a bitterly cold day. Filthy moss clung to his clean old cotton clothes, and the foul-smelling water gradually soaked his pants.

His drunken father held a whip in his hand, lashing him again and again. It didn’t hurt, but his cherished cotton clothes were ruined. He reached out to protect them, and the whip hit his hand, drawing blood. He couldn’t see his father’s face clearly, only the firecrackers in the background were making loud noises.

He wrapped himself tightly in a blanket, hoping to find some warmth inside, but it was still very cold, and he shivered all over, his limbs stiff.

Shu Yi came in with a cup of milk. Seeing him burying his head under the covers, he noticed a seemingly broken phone lying at the foot of the bed, which he had heard earlier.

He walked over and patted him, “Qu Di, are you okay?”

Qu Di didn’t say anything, but Shu Yi felt him trembling, as if someone were shivering in the dead of winter. He frowned, trying to lift the blanket off him, but Qu Di held onto it tightly, refusing to let go.

“Qu Di, you’ll suffocate like this.”

Qu Di’s voice was muffled, “I’m very cold… I’m really, really cold.”

He kept repeating this sentence, and his voice gradually faded, even though he tried to conceal it. Shu Yi could still hear his sobbing, small, like a little dog licking its wounds and occasionally crying out in pain.

Shu Yi sat down, used a bit of force to uncover the blanket, and indeed, he saw Qu Di curled up, shivering. He looked at him, his eyes conveying a sense of helplessness, as if he were a desperate person clutching at the last straw, begging for help. Qu Di was pleading with his eyes, and his tears fell freely, as if they didn’t cost a thing.

Shu Yi reached out and brushed Qu Di’s hair away from his forehead, asking, “What’s wrong? Is there something you want to tell me?”

Qu Di avoided his eyes, pulling the blanket to hide himself again, but Shu Yi wasn’t going to let him have his way. The two of them struggled over the blanket.

Shu Yi assumed he was struggling because of the recent case and tried to comfort him, “Don’t worry, everything will get better.”

But Qu Di suddenly asked, “Shu Yi, should I even be alive?”

“…” Shu Yi didn’t know how to respond to that question for a moment, but he lowered himself and pulled Qu Di into his arms. “No one should or shouldn’t be alive. There’s no ‘should’ or ‘shouldn’t,’ only ‘want’ or ‘don’t want.'”

“Why… why doesn’t anyone want me?” Qu Di’s voice sounded helpless and lost. He couldn’t understand why, if no one expected him, he had been brought into this world.

“Qu Di, you’re not living for others; you’re living for yourself.” Shu Yi paused, holding him tighter. “And you still have me…”

Upon hearing these words, Qu Di finally calmed down completely. He leaned against Shu Yi’s chest, and the two of them didn’t say another word. But Qu Di felt comforted, and that bone-chilling feeling gradually faded.

With the calmness came awkwardness. Shu Yi didn’t mind, though. He felt that Qu Di had regained his composure, and he said, half-jokingly, “Are you feeling better now? If you don’t get better soon, my back will break.”

Qu Di quickly moved away from his embrace. His eyes were still a little red, but even more noticeable were his ears, which were blushing so much they looked ready to drip blood. Those heated ears were giving away their owner’s thoughts without mercy.

Shu Yi didn’t put Qu Di on the spot; he didn’t mention what had just happened. He simply reminded him, “Remember to drink your milk,” and left, closing the door behind him.

Qu Di patted his cheeks. His eyes were sore, and his head ached. He took a sip of the warm milk. It was just regular milk, but he could taste a hint of something special in it. What that was, Qu Di dared not think.

The next afternoon, Qu Di received good news from Shu Yi. The police had found the mastermind of the recent case and had enough evidence to arrest him.

“Yang… Yang Ji?” Qu Di looked at the official police announcement in surprise. How was Yang Ji involved?

He flipped through the news. Yang Ji had apparently contacted a drug dealer named Guo the night before and conducted a transaction without meeting in person. Guo had left the goods at a certain location the previous night, Yang Ji had paid online, and then gone to pick up the drugs. Now, there were records of their transactions, along with drug matching reports, which all pointed to Yang Ji as the culprit.

Don’t Drink Strawberry Milk: What a twist! The road takes an unexpected turn! Where are all those fans who were jumping around saying this and that? Aren’t you going to face the music?

High Fly Will Kill Me: Shouldn’t some of the “privileged” fans apologize? Now that they’re all quiet? I heard his parents got fired because of this!?

I’m Just Here for the Food: Really? I heard some people sat outside the police station. It’s a stinking fan circle, true to its name.

Wow, the King: Isn’t it funny how they were so enthusiastic before, and now they don’t even say a word? I heard someone sat in front of the police station. A smelly fan circle indeed.

I Apologize: We, fans of Wenguo, hereby apologize to Mr. Qu. This time, it was our mistake, and we caused harm. We will reflect on ourselves and be more reasonable in the future. Please keep an eye on us.

Living in a Seashell: Shu Fei Lei also apologizes for his previous excessive behavior. In the future, he will be more mature in his actions.

Gentle but Explosive: Is this really what humans say? All those marketing accounts are all over the place. They think they’re internet police? Do they still have brains?

Little Rabbit Kid: This thing isn’t his doing. It doesn’t mean all those stories are false.

Just Ignoring You: Are the comments above human words? With a change of leadership at the top, didn’t they almost get sent to the guillotine?

Mickey Mouse 123: You’ve lost your account. [Dab]

Loyal Fans: Go check the water meter.

TRACY: Your account is gone. [Dab]

Eat a Good Meal: It’s a shame to meet you in this way.

How Did You Fail Again: Haven’t you heard there’s been a change in leadership up top? They almost sacrificed him to the gods!

Mi Ershu 123: Your account is gone. [Dab]

Kind Explosive Anger: Your account, please check the water meter.

I apologize on behalf of the Warmth Fans: The Warmth fans sincerely apologize to Mr. Qu. We made a mistake this time, and we caused harm. We will reflect on ourselves and be more rational in the future. Please supervise us.

This entire exchange leaves Qu Di startled. His fans seem to have turned against him, and he can’t help but feel overwhelmed.

“Would you like me to call Siyi to drive you home?”

“No, it’s fine. I can manage on my own. Don’t worry; I’m okay now.” Qu Di smiled and then added, “Thank you for this. I don’t have much to offer you, but if you don’t mind, I’d like to treat you to a meal sometime.”

Shu Yi’s expression suddenly became serious, “Is that your way of offering payment? Well, that might not be enough. After all, I’m a highly priced leading actor. What do you think?”

“You’re right… What do you want, then? I’ll do my best to fulfill your request. How about I write you an IOU… Huh?”

Shu Yi leaned down and stole a kiss, revealing a satisfied smile, “This is your payment. For me, it’s priceless.”

T/N: Hey there! There is plenty more where that came from, so stay tuned! And stay healthy! Straighten your posture, so some stretches and drink some water before continuing hehe~

Chapter 16 – It’s hard to escape the Omegaverse trope!

Chapter 16

This post vividly describes a beta consumed by materialism and vanity. It reveals that Qu Di, while in college, shamelessly pursued an Alpha who eventually became his partner.

The article explains that during their time together, Qu Di constantly compared his boyfriend with others, openly cheated, and often made his boyfriend spend money on luxury items. Their living expenses were also covered by this Alpha.

Three years later, as graduation approached, Qu Di began to consider his future. To secure a life supported by a wealthy Alpha, he decisively broke up with his boyfriend, announced their separation, and later tried to reconcile when he couldn’t find another Alpha. He then applied for a job as Xi Yan’s assistant.

Tang Tang Tang Xiao: This is disgusting. Are all betas like this nowadays? They don’t even consider what they themselves are and yet expect Alphas and Omegas to be interested in them.

Life is Meat: So much gender discrimination, is it interesting? Which industry doesn’t rely on betas nowadays? You folks who only go into heat, even if there were no betas, you noble Alphas and Omegas could live on your own.

Today I Crave Hot Pot: Isn’t anyone curious about who his ex-boyfriend is? This is so miserable.

Three Four Five Is Me: I feel like this gossip will entertain us for a long time. Patiently waiting.

Skeleton Flower: Is this Qu Di a mess? Shamelessly clinging to Alphas whenever he sees one. I’d kick him back to his ancestors with one swift kick and tell him to go dance at his family’s grave. Such a disgrace and he still wants our Xi Yan.

Half Sugar No Ice: Sisters, speak more if you can. We could even publish a book.

Is Qu Di Dead Today: I like you, hot-tempered elder sister.

Reborn Pancake Vendor: A person who’s been thoroughly messed with, really thinks highly of himself.

Milk Macchiato: I recommend the death penalty for people like this. Even if he doesn’t die, we salty fish won’t let him off.

Mao Jing Jing Loves Dancing: Add our Shu Fei Lei to the list. He caused trouble for our Shu Yi before, and while we’re laid-back, we’re not without a temper.

Bring Another Bottle of Wahaha: This time he’s done for. He’s angered Shu Yi, Xi Yan, and Weng Gu’s three fandoms. Spectators, get ready for the fight!

Unicode: Is this even a person? Categorized as harmful waste in waste sorting and it’s an insult to harmful waste.

No Kissing Allowed: He’s mastered this very well.

A Bunch of Short Stories: Don’t you find it strange? They haven’t released the investigation results, but you’re all making a fuss. Pretty impressive to jump to conclusions without evidence.

Mosquito Sucking My Fat: Isn’t the one above a friend of Qu Di’s? He’s been in there for so long, and if there was nothing, they would’ve released him already. Do you see anyone daring to bail him out?

After one night, public opinion had mostly aligned. No one doubted that Qu Di was the culprit.

Videos of people throwing stones at Qu Di’s parents’ house in protest were posted online. Some reported his stepfather for improper conduct. Some of his friends also faced media harassment.

For those many, this was just a topic of conversation, occasionally making a fuss for the sake of justice. For the fans, it was a “battle for their idol.”

Tang Xiyan lay in bed, nearly tearing his hair out as she read the unbearable comments, and there were even fans among them.

He glanced at Qu Fei, who was looking at his phone on the side. He wanted to quietly say something to Qu Di, but found that he couldn’t log into his account.

Qu Fei coldly said, “I changed your password. Give up, I’ll take care of it until this is over.”

Tang Xiyan threw his phone on the bed and confronted him, “Don’t you like him? Do you really believe he did this?”

“Irrelevant if I believe it or not. The key is that the public’s opinion is against him. This won’t end easily. I admired him as an assistant before. You have to remember, he’s just a small assistant, replaceable at any time. I won’t let him ruin you.”

“You…” Tang Xiyan wanted to say something but found herself unable to utter a word. After all these years, he wasn’t the hot-blooded child she used to be; this world was inherently unfair.

“Pack up, and we’ll go back tomorrow.”

Due to the damage to the crew’s morale, Tang Chao decided to postpone the production until this matter was resolved. Everyone knew this wouldn’t last long.

Qu Di spent two days in detention. He was taken out for questioning five times. He went from initially defending himself to later falling silent. They just wanted to find someone to blame, and who it was didn’t matter. They got him involved.

He huddled in a corner of the room, staring blankly at his feet. He hadn’t eaten in two days, his stomach starting to ache. He didn’t know how long he could hold on, worried he might give up.

The door opened again, the same officer came in and said, “Come out.”

Qu Di slowly lifted his head, thinking they were taking him again. He was so tired, but he managed to stand, only to find out they were letting him go.

He stood there, incredulous. “You’re releasing… me?”

“Yes, someone came forward to bail you out. I don’t know who it was, but our chief agreed to it.”

“…”

“But it might be better to stay inside.” The officer sympathetically looked at him. There were many fans outside the police station, all demanding justice. They had blocked the entrance, causing a major headache.

To avoid unnecessary commotion, they arranged for Qu Di to leave through the back door. A car was waiting for him there.

Qu Di didn’t expect that someone would bail him out. He stood bewildered at the back door. The car was parked in front of him, and the window rolled down, revealing Zheng Siyi, who gave him a meaningful look. “Get in.”

He got into the car, still feeling dazed. He had been out of sorts for the past few days, and he had barely slept. Now, all he wanted was a good rest. Everything else could wait.

He slept straight through from 11 in the morning until 9 in the evening. He didn’t even realize how he got out of the car.

He stared at the ceiling for a while, then realized he wasn’t at home. He sat up abruptly, but his head throbbed, his temples pounding with an intense urge to vomit. He covered his mouth and rushed to the bathroom, but due to his unfamiliarity with the surroundings, he accidentally kicked the laundry basket at the bathroom door.

He didn’t have time to think about it and went straight to the bathroom to vomit. He hadn’t eaten for two days, so he could only bring up a bit of sour water. His throat was burning from stomach acid. Despite that, he felt much better.

Upstairs, Shu Yi heard the noise, turned on the light, and saw Qu Di sitting by the toilet, his face not looking too good.

“Shu Yi?” Qu Di tried to stand up, but he was so weak from fasting for so long that he stumbled and lunged forward, and Shu Yi took a couple of steps forward to catch him.

“Be careful.”

“Thank you…” Qu Di didn’t know who had bailed him out. He had been so weak and hadn’t eaten for two days, and he couldn’t figure out how he got here.

Shu Yi grabbed a bowl of congee that had been prepared downstairs and brought it to him. He put the bowl and two small dishes on the bedside table and handed him the congee. “Have some. It’ll help settle your stomach. We’ll make something more delicious for you tomorrow.”

Qu Di held the steaming bowl of congee and, after what seemed like an eternity, said, “Was it you… who bailed me out?”

Shu Yi gave him a smile and said, “Yes, I was worried about you in there.”

“But… this matter, if you intervene…” If the outside world found out, they might throw mud at Shu Yi.

“I followed the proper procedure to bail you out. They can’t say anything.”

“But…” Qu Di still had some doubts. He had been so sure that there was no way they would let him out.

However, before he could think further, Shu Yi took his empty bowl and said, “You’re full now, aren’t you? If you’re not, there’s more downstairs.”

“I’m fine, thank you.” Strangely, after not eating for so long, he could barely eat.

“In that case, rest a bit more. We can talk about everything tomorrow.” Shu Yi went to the door but then turned back to remind him, “Your phone is in the top drawer.”

Shu Yi, after tidying everything up, called his brother-in-law, Lu Huayan.

“By the way, how’s it going with the case?”

“It’s been investigated, and I had them disclose the information to the police. We should have results soon.”

“Thanks, we’ll treat you to a meal next time.”

“Thank you, we’ll do it another time.”

“Ah, Yi!” Lu Huayan called him.

Shu Yi leaned against the kitchen refrigerator, looking upstairs at the room where Qu Di was sleeping. There were clearly mixed emotions in his eyes. “I know what you want to say, but you also know my answer.”

“After all, you’re Shu Man’s brother…” He couldn’t just stand by.

Hearing Shu Man’s name, Shu Yi’s eyes turned cold, and his grip on the phone tightened gradually. His tone seemed to restrain his anger. “It’s because I’m her brother that I can’t let him go!”

“If you really want to deal with him, why did you help him this time? Letting this situation unfold, that beta won’t have a good outcome. Ruined reputation and imprisonment isn’t enough?”

Suddenly, Shu Yi smiled, not like his usual warm and gentle smile. It was a cold and mocking smile. “Crushing something that’s within his grasp right in front of him, isn’t that even more despairing? I want him to never have a chance to turn things around. I want him to become a handful of mud underfoot, ready for anyone to step on!”

Chapter 15 – It’s hard to escape the Omegaverse trope!

Chapter 15

None of the three of them knew what had happened. The leading officer gave a signal to the others behind him, saying, “You go and take statements from Shu Yi and Xiyan.”

Then, he turned to Qu Di and said, “Sir, I’m afraid we’ll need you to come with us.”

Shu Yi pulled the man behind him and furrowed his brow, saying, “We need evidence for everything. Are you taking someone away without saying anything?”

The officer chuckled and said, “I forgot to clarify. This person here is an employee of the hotel, responsible for servicing the rooms on the upper floors. She told us that on the day of the incident, she saw a person coming out of Mr. Wen Gu’s room, and that person is this gentleman.”

After he said this, Qu Di finally remembered where he had seen this lady before…

Shu Yi looked back at Qu Di and Qu Di quickly explained, “I didn’t go inside… I just happened to pass by Mr. Wen Gu’s room, and I noticed that he forgot to close the door, so I helped him close it.”

The officer said, “The hotel’s surveillance system happened to be under maintenance during that time frame, so we can’t confirm the truth of what you’re saying. However, this is the only lead we have, and we’re just bringing you back to assist in the investigation. You don’t need to panic.”

Then he gestured, and the people behind him moved forward to take Qu Di away. Tang Xiyan naturally couldn’t stand by and watch them take Qu Di away like this. He was protective and couldn’t let them take Qu Di away. Just as he was about to go and argue with them, Qu Di held him back.

Tang Xiyan turned around, and Qu Di shook his head, saying, “Stay calm. You don’t want to become a target for speculation.”

He still remembered his job, and now this matter had become a nationwide sensation. It was not just news in the entertainment industry; hurting an Omega was a serious criminal case. Tang Xiyan needed to distance himself from this matter as much as possible.

Then he said to the officer, “I’ll go with you.”

“Hey!” Tang Xiyan was not convinced, and he couldn’t just watch them take Qu Di away. Shu Yi said to him, “Don’t go. Qu Di is right. The situation is still unclear. We can figure out a plan later.”

The police had promised not to make Qu Di’s situation public until the case was solved, but at noon that day, a post appeared on the internet, instantly igniting public outrage.

“Wen Gu Case Suspect Apprehended, Allegedly the Personal Assistant of a Famous Singer”

Combining the Wen Gu incident with a well-known singer, the post quickly rose to the top of the homepage and became the number one trending topic.

The post was written by someone claiming to be a hotel employee who had witnessed the suspect being taken away. The post didn’t mention any names, but everyone could guess who the “famous singer” was.

As a result, Tang Xiyan’s name also appeared in the trending topics, attracting a lot of negative comments.

Bululu: Xiyan is no saint either. Back in the day, he beat up Zhou Zhou and sent him to the hospital, forcing him to leave the industry. Now he’s involved in another scandal. I wonder if he had his eye on Wen Gu and sent his assistant to do this. He’s trying to shift all the blame onto his assistant.

Yanyan, Mom Loves You: Can the people upstairs stop talking? Zhou Zhou already apologized for the past incident, okay? Xiyan is just a boy who loves music. He doesn’t have the background to make someone disappear. On the other hand, Zhou Zhou’s father is a big shot in politics, and he still ran away. Clearly, he’s guilty.

Skinny Tiger Fan: Right! The assistant’s actions are his own, what does it have to do with Xiyan? Let’s look forward to the new song #Mu Xia#.

LINDA-: Why is a singer going to act in a TV drama? I think he has ulterior motives. I get annoyed just seeing him. Lots of nonsense.

Pie Crumbs Rule: You guys are so good at making up stories, why don’t you become screenwriters? If you can’t prove anything before the facts are out, I’ll always believe in Xiyan. Looking forward to the new song #Mu Xia#.

I’m Waiting at the Station to See You Off: Some people are just bitter. Xiyan is innocent. Don’t spread baseless accusations. Looking forward to the new song #Mu Xia#.

Little Fox is So Cute: Why would Xiyan want an Omega when he’s so talented? Do you really think he needs to scheme to find an Omega? This is just nonsense. Looking forward to the new song #Mu Xia#.

Nostrils Eating Dinner: Hey, can the person above not re-victimize the victim? Are you trying to blame the victim again? We salted fish are rational. Stop attacking others. Looking forward to the new song #Mu Xia#.

Hot Hands: Oh no, the assistant was the one who saved Xiyan from sasaeng fans before, right? I’m starting to suspect that he orchestrated this himself, just to stay by Xiyan’s side. Xiyan is definitely innocent. Looking forward to the new song #Mu Xia#.

Heartless Killer: So toxic! Stop speculating. How can an assistant do such things without Xiyan’s involvement?

Shushu Loves Eating Noodles: Why is everyone focusing on Xiyan? The one who caused the trouble is clearly the assistant.

Easy Eight Pulls: I think I know this person; he’s a Beta.

POT: This Beta must be trying to take advantage. He knows he can’t find an Omega by his own merits, so he’s resorting to such methods. Beta is disgusting, always trying to find an Omega. But does he even know what kind of person he is?

My Headphones Broke Again: Why are you discriminating by gender? Do some people still live in the last century? The current mayor of Y City is also a Beta. What kind of fool are you?

You Exploded: Speaking the truth, map cannons are all trash.

Flowers Scattered All Over: Before the evidence is out, don’t accept any mudslinging. Looking forward to the new song #Mu Xia#.

Carrying a Bomb to School: Before the evidence is out, don’t accept any mudslinging. Looking forward to the new song #Mu Xia#.

^-^: Before the evidence is out, don’t accept any mudslinging. Looking forward to the new song #Mu Xia#.

“Brother, can you think of a way? What’s going on here? Qu Di is definitely innocent. Just get him out for now.”

Tang Chaobai scolded, “Whoever gets involved in this matter will be finished. Do you want to ruin your reputation? I won’t get involved in this matter, and the company will issue a statement later, clarifying that you have no connection to this incident. Outside, you need to watch your words.”

“What about Qu Di?”

“He is just an assistant. Whatever the police say, that’s how it is. Don’t go out casually in the near future. I’ve already asked Qiu Fei to come find you.”

“Brother!”

“Shut up. I won’t let you ruin your reputation to protect an assistant. Don’t do anything foolish.” After saying that, Tang Chaobai hung up the phone. When Tang Xiyan called back, he only received an ‘unable to reach’ notification.

Tang Xiyan knew that there was no use in saying anything more. His older brother was a businessman who always put his interests first. Not getting his assistant implicated and having the company issue a statement to protect his own reputation was already the best he could hope for.

After being taken to the police station, Qu Di sat in a room with white walls on all sides, with only two surveillance cameras on the ceiling, their red lights blinking. He could only sit on the floor.

He didn’t know how long he had been here. They had taken away all his belongings and told him to wait. He had been waiting for a day.

He sat in a corner, burying his face in his arms, not knowing how the investigation was going.

After what felt like a long time, someone finally entered from outside. The person had an expressionless face and spoke coldly, “Come out.”

Qu Di swallowed hard. He was hungry and thirsty now, and his throat was dry and sore.

He followed the officer into another room, also with white walls on all sides. In the middle, there was a table and three chairs. Two officers were already waiting inside.

“Are you thirsty? Have some water.”

Qu Di didn’t hesitate, he said thank you and quickly drank the water in front of him. It instantly made him feel better.

“Name.”

“Qu Di.”

“Gender.”

“Male Beta.”

“Age.”

“22.”

“Occupation.”

“Assistant.”

“On August 6th, at 10:23 AM, where were you?”

“I… I was on the 53rd floor of the hotel.”

“At this time, the crew was shooting. Why did you go back?”

“My artist got injured, but he forgot to apply medicine that day. I went back to get the ointment for him.”

“Why did a witness say you came out of room 5315, which is the victim’s room? If you’re not his assistant, how did you get in?”

This question was filled with accusations, and even the tone became harsh, as if he was the criminal. Qu Di was getting anxious, and he said, “I was just passing by and saw that Mr. Wen Gu’s room door was not closed. I called inside to check if anyone was there, but there was no response. I thought he had forgotten to close the door, so I just helped him close it.”

“Did you see a room keycard at the door?”

Qu Di was stunned, “What keycard?”

“If, as you say, you should have seen a keycard at the door. The victim said he didn’t realize he had lost his keycard, but when he went back, he saw his lost keycard at his room door. If you didn’t see it, it’s because you placed it there afterward, right?”

“I didn’t!”

The other officer interjected at this point, “I advise you to confess. A good attitude can lead to a reduced sentence.”

“I didn’t do it. Why should I confess?”

The two officers looked at him with furrowed brows, as if they were dealing with a disobedient child. One of them said, “If you don’t cooperate with our investigation, we’ll have to detain you for now. Let us know when you’re ready to talk.”

Qu Di was locked back into the same small room. He leaned against the wall, feeling powerless for the first time. He also realized that in this society, true justice wasn’t always needed. All they needed was a scapegoat to suppress public opinion and maintain the facade of a harmonious society. In that context, his sacrifice was considered “worth it.”

His stomach grumbled, protesting after a day without food. He pressed his hand against his stomach, trying to suppress the hunger. There wouldn’t be anything to eat today.

That night, all the information about the “culprit” Qu Di, including his family, school, and current address, was exposed on the internet. A post titled “The Culprit of the Wen Gu Case, Qu Di, Is a Shameless Scumbag” was trending.

Chapter 14 – It’s hard to escape the Omegaverse trope!

Chapter 14

Tang Xiyan stirred the tomato hot pot in front of him and remarked, “Eating hot pot without spiciness just doesn’t feel right.”

Qu Di handed him a piece of tripe and reminded, “Dr. Yu said you shouldn’t eat too spicy lately.”

Shu Yi smiled and said, “Qu Di is looking out for your well-being. Just ease up on the spice. I think the tomato base is pretty good.”

“I didn’t say I wouldn’t listen to him.” He tossed the meat from his bowl into Qu Di’s, as if he had done it countless times before. “I overcooked this meat by accident. You have it.”

Qu Di, used to this, wasn’t as picky as Tang Xiyan. He was about to eat the meat, but at that moment, Shu Yi used his chopsticks to take the overcooked meat from his bowl. “I like overcooked meat, it’s chewy. Give it to me.”

Tang Xiyan said, “Your preferences are quite unique.”

Shu Yi didn’t say anything but looked at Qu Di and then served him a piece of beef tripe, saying softly, “I noticed you seem to like this.”

“Th-thank you.” He promptly stuffed it into his mouth. The beef tripe he had just picked up was quite hot, so he opened his mouth and exhaled heavily. Shu Yi handed him a glass of cola, and Qu Di took several sips.

Tang Xiyan handed him a napkin to wipe his mouth and said, “If you like it, you can have it; no need to rush.”

“Thank you.”

At this point, Shu Yi seemed a bit uneasy and said, “Uh… I think I accidentally gave you my cup…”

Qu Di: …

Seeing his reaction, Shu Yi quickly reassured him, “It’s fine, I haven’t used it.”

Qu Di got up and said, “I’ll find a new cup for you.” Then he hurriedly left as if he was escaping.

He went to the lounge area and looked for a clean cup, but at that moment, there was a knock on the door.

“Is anyone there? Is anyone there?”

Qu Di turned to the others and said, “I’ll go open the door first.”

Tang Xiyan had a big bite of beef and murmured, “Does Wen Gu smell the hot pot and want to eat it?”

“Xiao Xiao?” Wen Gu’s assistant was named Qin Xiao Xiao, a beta girl who usually didn’t talk much.

At this moment, the quiet and composed girl’s eyes were moist, as if she was about to cry. She turned to Qu Di for help, speaking incoherently, “Qu Di, please help me! I’ve already called an ambulance, but Wen Gu… Wen Gu doesn’t seem to be well. What should I do? What should I do?”

Hearing her crying, the three of them in the room walked out, but as soon as Qin Xiao Xiao saw Shu Yi and the others, she shouted at them, “Don’t come over!”

The three of them were puzzled but stopped in their tracks. At this point, Shu Yi suddenly covered his nose and said, “Do you smell the scent of omega pheromones on her?”

Shu Yi’s comment made Tang Xiyan notice the faint scent as well. For those with sensitive olfactory senses like Alphas, this scent had significant implications.

Qu Di got up and said, “I’ll go and find a new cup for you.” Then he quickly left the room.

As he approached the room, even with the door closed, Qu Di, a beta, could still catch a faint whiff of the scent. It was easy to imagine what this meant for the highly sensitive Alphas.

Qin Xiao Xiao wiped her tears and tried to collect her thoughts. She choked out, “I don’t know exactly what happened. After we returned to the hotel, we each went to our own rooms. But he suddenly called me just now, and he couldn’t explain clearly over the phone.

“I only heard him gasping on the other end, and I was afraid something had happened, so I came up. I asked the hotel for a spare key card and then entered the room. I saw him lying on the floor, and there was a used suppressant nearby…”

She didn’t want to ask the hotel staff for help right away to avoid any negative publicity. She called an ambulance and then informed Wen Gu’s manager.

Wen Gu woke up, still in a daze. The numb sensation surged through his body once again, and his throat felt like it was on fire. He couldn’t speak. The deep-seated desire emanating from his body was eroding his nerves. Right now, he needed an Alpha… anyone would do.

He had already taken a suppressant… so why was he feeling like this again? This was the last thought he had before his rationality vanished.

The ambulance arrived quickly. Medical personnel entered the room, provided some basic care for Wen Gu, and then took him away. Qu Di had initially thought of accompanying them but was stopped by Qin Xiao Xiao.

“You can go back; I’ll go with them.”

Qu Di didn’t insist, understanding that artists’ matters often shouldn’t be intervened in by someone unfamiliar.

“Alright, if you need any help, you can reach out to me.”

After Wen Gu was taken away, the corridor was still filled with the strong scent of pheromones. Any Alpha passing by would likely be overwhelmed by this lingering scent. Hotel staff quickly arrived to disperse the pheromones.

When Qu Di knocked on the door, the three people sitting on the sofa in the lounge quickly reacted. Shu Yi was closer to the door, and he said, “I’ll go and open it.”

Upon opening the door, Shu Yi’s first question was, “Are you okay?”

What trouble could a beta get into?

Qu Di shook his head and replied, “I’m fine, but Wen Gu went to the hospital. It’s a temporary judgment that he’s in heat, and his pheromones are out of control.”

Hearing this, everyone felt relieved. Sudden heats were not uncommon, especially for mature Omegas like Wen Gu who hadn’t found an Alpha. They were prone to irregular heat cycles.

But going to the hospital was a first, as with advanced technology, even when a heat came on suddenly, a single injection would usually provide relief without the need for medical intervention.

However, it seemed that Wen Gu’s situation was different. Due to this unexpected turn of events, no one felt like eating any longer. Shu Yi and Zheng Siyi left, but Tang Xiyan couldn’t bear to leave a table full of food and urged Qu Di to help finish it.

“Didn’t you just say you weren’t hungry?”

“Well, this is in front of outsiders! If Wen Gu is in trouble, I have to show my concern, isn’t that what you guys taught me? Come on, help me finish everything; I treat you like family.”

Tang Xiyan served him a piece of tripe and said, “Adding the collateral fee for this hot pot, it’s one thousand five! Wasting food is a sin!”

In the end, Qu Di couldn’t refuse and helped finish the food on the table. Both of them were stuffed, and Qu Di intended to clean up, but Tang Xiyan stopped him, saying, “The person said there’s no need to clean up. He’ll come to collect it himself tomorrow. Don’t worry about it.”

“Are you really going to sleep with all this food tonight?”

Tang Xiyan considered it and said, “It does have a strong smell. You go take a shower, I’ll tidy up a bit, and then I’ll come to help you apply the medicine before I go back.”

Tang Xiyan stood up and stretched lazily. “One of the lead actors is in the hospital. I wonder if we’ll have the day off tomorrow.”

The cast and crew had a sleepless night due to the recent events. Tang Xiyan, however, slept soundly, and the next day he was curious why everyone seemed like they hadn’t slept well.

The director took out a cigarette but didn’t light it. He looked somewhat troubled and said, “We’ve only been shooting for a few days, and one of the leads is already in the hospital. Today, there will surely be a lot of media waiting for us. Please be cautious.”

As expected, when Tang Xiyan stepped outside, a horde of cameras and microphones were thrust in his face. Even those who had been interviewing passersby rushed over. The presence of the cast added more spice to the story.

“Tang Xiyan, we are from Huayan Entertainment. We’d like to ask for your thoughts on Wen Gu being hospitalized.”

“Some sources claim he had a rendezvous with an Alpha in the hotel. Can you confirm if this is true?”

“It’s been revealed by insiders that he lost control of his pheromones due to excessive use of aphrodisiacs. Is this accurate?”

“We’ve heard that the person he was with was the male lead of the same drama, Shu Yi. Do you have any information on this?”

“Tang Xiyan, please answer our questions!”

The security guards hired by the production company stood in front of him and pushed these people away.

Qu Di raised his voice and said, “Tang Xiyan has work to do today. Please make way for us.”

However, the media showed no sign of backing down. Until the situation was clarified, it was best for anyone to remain silent and avoid disclosing any information to the press, even if they knew anything. Everything should be left for the company to handle. Tang Xiyan kept his head down and, escorted by security, got into the nanny car.

It was said that Shu Yi’s situation was even more serious when he came out. After all, he was one of the main characters in the rumored heat incident involving Wen Gu.

Fortunately, the set location; Red Pear Film and Television City wasn’t a place reporters could enter, or they would have to halt production altogether.

Yang Jisheng didn’t come yesterday, and now Wen Gu is missing today. Just as the two had some conflicts, it seemed they wouldn’t have to see each other for a while.

Everyone received news that Wen Gu’s situation wasn’t extremely severe but not a minor issue either. He had been forced into a heat out of season, and the drug dosage wasn’t small. It might take him half a month to recover.

With this revelation, the incident was no longer a simple accident.

The director approached and whispered, “The police are already at the hotel, investigating the matter. They want to speak to those who knew about it last night. They’ll be here soon. The four of you wait.”

Then he turned to Yang Jisheng and said, “Come on, Yang Jisheng, let’s shoot scene 22 first. Go change your clothes, and the other actors should get ready as well. Stay focused!”

Shu Yi and the others waited for almost an hour. Tang Xiyan seemed impatient, frequently checking the time on his phone. Finally, a group of police officers wearing uniforms, along with a hotel cleaner, approached. There were six officers in total.

They first displayed their credentials, and Qu Di kept watching the cleaner, feeling that she looked familiar.

The cleaner also kept staring at Qu Di, which made him somewhat uneasy. Just as he thought he might be imagining things, the police asked the cleaner to come forward.

“Take a look and see if you recognize anyone you saw that day.”

The cleaner didn’t say a word but straightforwardly pointed her finger at Qu Di, saying, “It’s him!”

Chapter 13 – It’s hard to escape the Omegaverse trope!

Chapter 13

The next day, they didn’t continue with the previous day’s filming. Instead, they focused on Tang Xiyan and Wen Gu’s scenes. Qu Di noticed that Yang Ji didn’t show up.

Yang Ji’s assistant did come for a moment but left after talking to the director.

Due to Tang Xiyan’s injury, the director rescheduled his bedridden scene. He just had to wear a white coat and lie under a blanket while Wen Gu delivered his lines.

This scene took place indoors, and Qu Di, along with others, watched from outside. Shu Yi was dressed in costume and stood nearby with a small fan in his hand.

Qu Di discreetly created some distance between them. Shu Yi seemed oblivious to this and started a conversation.

“I heard you’re not from Y City.”

“Well, I’m from P City,” Qu Di replied.

“P City has the sea, right? I went there a couple of years ago for an ad shoot. It’s really beautiful, and the air is good. By the way, you must be great at swimming since you’ve lived by the sea.”

Qu Di blushed a bit and admitted, “Actually… I don’t know how to swim.”

“Oh?” Shu Yi looked surprised, then laughed, saying, “I thought people who lived by the sea would definitely know how to swim.”

“I didn’t grow up there, and I’ve never been to the seaside. I… uh… I lived in the mountains when I was a kid. I only moved to P City with my mother when I was a bit older.”

“I see.” Seemingly understanding that Qu Di wasn’t very interested in this topic, Shu Yi changed the subject. “So, did you graduate from Rong University? There aren’t many options for universities related to this field in P City.”

“Yes, I studied screenwriting at the university.”

Shu Yi glanced at Tang Xiyan in the distance and asked, “Then why did you become an assistant? From what I know, most screenwriting graduates either study abroad after graduation to improve their credentials or use connections to get into the industry directly.”

Qu Di didn’t avoid the topic and said, “People say that graduating equals unemployment. Right after graduation, it’s a bit tough to find work in screenwriting. So, I thought I could learn and gain some experience as an assistant. It might help in the future.”

That was the truth. In the current industry, without connections, even if you had exceptional talent, it was challenging to get recognized.

Shu Yi pondered for a moment and said, “If you don’t mind, you can show me your scripts. I’ve been in the industry for many years, and I can give you some feedback. And… if it’s suitable, I might be able to help you find an investor.”

Qu Di couldn’t believe his ears. He was about to grab Shu Yi’s sleeve but thought better of it, considering Shu Yi’s expensive outfit. He asked, somewhat hesitantly, “Is that for real? But… wouldn’t it be a bit troublesome for you?”

After all, they were on vastly different levels in the industry. Qu Di was just an ordinary assistant.

“It’s just a small favor, and right now, the market is so frenzied. Good scripts are too rare, and I don’t want to see good scripts buried. Plus, if you succeed in the future, just remember to look me up.”

“Are you serious?” Qu Di was a bit incredulous. He was aware that, even if his work was adapted into a film or series, he might not be able to afford someone of Shu Yi’s caliber.

Shu Yi gave him a serious look and spoke with a low, emotional tone, “I’m not joking. If it’s your script, I genuinely want to be a part of it.”

Qu Di was taken aback and couldn’t help but feel moved. He even felt Shu Yi’s hand on top of his head, patting him twice, as Shu Yi’s magnetic voice softly whispered, “Consider this my reward.”

He stood frozen in place, unable to comprehend what this meant. He didn’t have the confidence to tell himself that Shuyi had taken an interest in him.

“What are you staring at?!” Tang Xiyan took the small fan from his hand and only then realized it was out of battery. “Tsk, didn’t you charge it last night?”

“What?” Qu Di snapped back to reality, checking the fan, and indeed, it was out of power.

“I think I forgot… There were too many things last night, and the hotel has spares. Shall I go back and get one now?”

“Forget it, I’m not that fussy.” He grabbed a big bottle of water. “What were you thinking just now? I called you several times, and you didn’t respond.”

“Nothing…”

Tang Xiyan looked at his slightly flushed ears and muttered, “Why do you look like you’re in heat?”

He often used crude words like these, but this time, it seemed like he had poured gasoline on a fire in his heart. Qu Di, acting out of character, gave his arm a punch. “Stop saying nonsense, I’m just… a little hot.”

He didn’t know that this reaction, which seemed rather suspicious, actually diverted Tang Xiyan’s attention.

“You hit me so lightly. Haha, not even as strong as some Omega I’ve seen before! Need me to teach you a thing or two?” He began playfully throwing punches.

“You need to put more effort into it; otherwise, how can you hurt someone? Hey! Are you even listening to me?”

“…”

Thanks to his intervention, Qu Di’s thoughts were extinguished by his silliness, and he looked at him with a perplexed expression.

“Sss…”

Tang Xiyan might have touched on the wound on his back, which made him stop.

“I told you not to move.” Qu Di tugged at Tang Xiyan’s clothes, trying to see his wound, but Tang Xiyan clutched his collar tightly.

“There are so many people here! Do you have to lift my clothes?”

“I just wanted to check the wound.”

“I know it myself, I’m fine!”

Just as he said that, someone passing by calmly said, “You’re bleeding.”

Tang Xiyan: …

All the ointment provided by Yu Zhiyuan had been given to Tang Xiyan. He had promised to take his medicine and apply it on time, but the reality seemed to be different.

Tang Xiyan argued, “How can I reach my back to apply the ointment? Are you out of your mind?”

“You can call me. Didn’t I tell you to contact me if you need anything?” They both lived in the same hotel, so it was convenient. “If that’s not possible, you can ask the people in the next room for help.”

Tang Xiyan suddenly asked him as if he had heard a joke, “Are you serious?”

His neighbor was the prominent figure in the entertainment industry, a big brother, and the next one was Yang Ji, whom he didn’t get along with. And beyond that was Wen Gu, an Omega. It didn’t seem appropriate at all.

Qu Di had forgotten that they weren’t in their college dorms anymore, and they had just started getting to know each other. It wasn’t easy to ask someone to come over in the middle of the night to apply ointment.

“What about your medicine?”

Tang Xiyan honestly said, “I didn’t bring it.”

“… Such artists are really worrisome.”

“Did you take your medicine?” Dr. Yu specifically mentioned that he had to take the anti-inflammatory drugs, or he would have problems with inflammation.

“I did.”

Next, Tang Xiyan had another scene to shoot, and the hotel wasn’t too far from the set. Qu Di took his room key card and went back to fetch it for him. He quickly arrived at the hotel, greeted the receptionist, and headed straight to the 53rd floor. Wen Gu was in room 5315, while Tang Xiyan was in 5316.

When Qu Di passed by Wen Gu’s room, he noticed that the door wasn’t properly closed; it was slightly ajar. He knocked on the door and called out, “Is anyone there?”

However, there was no response from inside. He was about to close the door when a cleaning lady stepped out of Tang Xiyan’s room. It seemed like Tang Xiyan had ordered room service, but both of them were startled.

Qu Di smiled at her, nodded, and closed the door on his way out. The cleaning lady pushed her cart away, and when she turned the corner, she glanced back at Qu Di, who had used his key card to enter the room. She didn’t ask any questions; after all, she was accustomed to seeing various assistants and managers accompanying big celebrities.

Tang Xiyan had invited Wen Gu and Shuyi to have dinner with him today, and he suggested, “I saw a nearby Hai Di Lao 1A very famous hotpot branch restaurant! restaurant. How about I treat you to some takeaway hot pot? We can have it in my room.”

It had been a while since he had finished shooting so early. Tang Xiyan was excited to order takeaway, and he and Qu Di began making selections. Fifteen minutes later, Qu Di glanced at the total, and he had ordered nearly a thousand yuan worth of food…

He advised him, “Don’t eat too much tonight.” The food here was quite expensive…

“We are three men plus a female beta. This little food won’t even fill the gaps between our teeth!”

Chapter 12 – It’s hard to escape the Omegaverse trope!

Chapter 12

Injury to an artist is not a minor matter. After reporting the situation to Qiu Fei, Qu Di received instructions. Qiu Fei told Qu Di to go to a private hospital and find Tang Xiyan’s personal doctor, and the company would later release the news about Tang Xiyan’s injury.

Tang Xiyan’s injury was on his back, and Qu Di dared not touch it carelessly. He could only let Tang Xiyan wear his coat. But Tang Xiyan also needed to wear a hat, a mask, and sunglasses, creating a look that attracted a lot of attention.

During the distance from the hospital entrance to the doctor’s office, many people, after some initial doubt, pulled out their phones to take pictures. Qu Di thought that it wouldn’t take more than an hour for Tang Xiyan’s photos to go viral on the internet.

As for whether people could recognize him, Qu Di wasn’t worried at all. It seemed like the fans these days had superhuman abilities and could determine whether or not their idol was present based on their walking style.

Arriving at the doctor’s office, Tang Xiyan could finally take off his mask and sunglasses. He said, “I told you not to come. Look, every time I come to the hospital, there’s a crowd of people taking pictures of me.”

“The company will handle this matter, and it’s not something to be ashamed of.”

The doctor’s name was Yu Zhiyuan, and he looked quite young, with delicate features and neat chestnut hair. The most eye-catching feature about him was the small mole just below his lips, giving him an intriguing charm. Coupled with his white coat and his upright expression, he seemed to exude a mysterious sensuality.

He was currently writing a report with his head down and didn’t even bother to look up. “What happened this time?”

Tang Xiyan didn’t seem to have the best relationship with Yu Zhiyuan. He didn’t even look at him and acted like a temperamental child. Annoyed, he said, “I injured my back.”

“That means you’re not dead. I’ll finish writing this report, and if you’re still alive by the time I’m done, I’ll take a look at you.”

“I need to get back to work! Ah…” Tang Xiyan accidentally touched a muscle on his back, causing him to grimace in pain.

Yu Zhiyuan raised his head and glanced at the doctor. He had a flat tone and said, “It’s just a few blisters. You can puncture them yourself and apply some medicine. It’s incredible that you came to the hospital for such a minor issue.”

Silence followed. The doctor was not quite what he had imagined.

“Do you think I wanted to come? Even if I were on my deathbed, I wouldn’t want to see your face. It’s all because this assistant insisted on dragging me here,” he said, pointing the blame at his assistant.

Yu Zhiyuan didn’t seem to be in a friendly mood, and Qu Di spoke carefully, “I’m sorry, Dr. Yu. I asked him to come. My main concern was the risk of infection. The wound has been closed for almost a whole afternoon. Would you please take another look?”

Yu Zhiyuan turned his gaze toward Qu Di. His tone was much softer than when he talked to Tang Xiyan, “Are you the new assistant?”

Qu Di nodded.

“Do you like dogs?”

Qu Di was puzzled, “No.”

“Then how could you stand being his assistant?”

Before he could react, Tang Xiyan jumped up from his seat, “Hey! Who are you calling a dog!?”

“Oh, you’re making some progress. You could tell that I was talking about you?” Yu Zhiyuan retorted.

“I… I…” Qu Di saw that Tang Xiyan was about to attack, so he quickly restrained him, “Calm down, you still have an injury.”

Yu Zhiyuan looked at his computer screen, typing with one hand while speaking, “He’s tough. Don’t worry too much. The nurse will clean the wound later, and I’ll prescribe some antibiotics. Take them and apply ointment for a week. Avoid pulling on the wound and exposing it to water, and keep the wound clean.”

Then, he handed over the prescription to Qu Di, saying, “Take this to get the medication from the pharmacy later.”

Next, he looked at Tang Xiyan and started to dismiss him, “You can leave now.”

The two of them were inherently incompatible, and Tang Xiyan made an obscene gesture at him, “I’m going to replace you starting tomorrow!”

“I couldn’t hope for anything better.”

Qu Di took the prescription to get the medicine but met an acquaintance on the way.

“Manager?”

Fang Yingying was standing at the beverage vending machine, planning to buy something to drink when she heard someone call her name. She turned around and saw Qu Di, whom she hadn’t seen in a long time.

However, there was no joy of reunion on her face; she seemed rather distant. “Qu Di, why are you in Y City?”

“I’ve come to work here. What about you?” Fang Yingying had been running that flower shop, and it was unlikely she would come here to struggle like him.

She hesitated for a moment and said, “My boyfriend works here, so I followed him.”

“Really? Congratulations. By the way, how’s your flower shop doing?”

“It’s doing fine. My family is helping me run it.”

“Your family? Weren’t you always worried about them asking for money when they visited your shop?” Fang Yingying’s father was a gambling addict and had visited her shop several times to ask for money. She had always been on guard against him.

Fang Yingying played with her hair uncomfortably and said, “Actually, a company noticed me and I’m going to participate in a talent show. The flower shop is not that useful, and I’m not renewing the lease when it expires.”

She had never lived a decently comfortable life, and although she felt a bit uneasy seeing Qu Di, she couldn’t help but show off the enviable life she was living now.

Qu Di finally noticed her expensive jewelry. Although he didn’t understand, they didn’t look fake. It seemed she had truly found her luck. He congratulated her, “Congratulations.”

“By the way, why are you here at the hospital?” Fang Yingying had come to the hospital for a follow-up due to a throat infection that had resulted from a fever a few days ago.

He waved the prescription in his hand, “I… I came to get medicine for a friend.”

Fang Yingying, who had become more at ease since she saw him, gave a sweet smile, “Let’s stay in touch more often. I have something to do now, so I’ll leave.”

“Sure.”

Fang Yingying quickly left and got into a low-key black Rolls-Royce after exiting. She sent a message to Tang Chaobai to let him know she was heading back.

Qu Di returned to the hospital and left with Tang Xiyan. On the way, he seemed to want to ask something but hesitated. Finally, he asked, “It seems like you don’t get along well with Dr. Yu. A private doctor in a regular family shouldn’t be so confrontational with the employer.”

“Did you offend him?” After comparing the two, one being Tang Xiyan, who spoke without thinking, and the other being the seemingly cold and refined doctor, Qu Di thought that Dr. Yu must have been driven to this by Tang Xiyan.

With a disapproving look, Tang Xiyan immediately spilled the beans about Dr. Yu: “Don’t be fooled by his appearance; he’s actually a star chaser! His home is covered with posters, and he buys merchandise every day. He’s the kind of ‘beta’ who shouts ‘hubby’ at pictures of his idol on the computer!”

“… Really?” Qu Di clearly didn’t believe it. Couldn’t you come up with a more believable lie?

“Hey, what kind of look is that? Why would I lie to you? He lives next door to me, and he started idolizing stars since he was a child. Later, he became a doctor and toned it down.”

“I thought you and he had such a falling out because he’s petty! He must have lost his brain in his mother’s womb!”

“What did you do?”

Tang Xiyan grumbled, “I didn’t do much. When we were in college, he liked Luna, the pure and innocent female star of that time. You know, right?”

“I know.” After starring in a time-travel drama, she became popular, but her career didn’t take off afterward. Her resources were limited, and her acting skills were subpar, so she gradually faded from the A-list.

“I told him that Luna’s personal life was chaotic, and he was downcast for weeks. Then he fell in love with a young idol group called Once, always shipping them and losing his mind. He would inexplicably burst into laughter while reading medical books. Ha-ha-ha, really like a brain-damaged patient!”

“Cough, then I told him that the group members fought for resources every day and wouldn’t speak to each other off-camera. They even wanted to twist each other’s necks. Finally, two years ago, he became infatuated with Zhou Zhou, that seemingly super-A aloof Omega…”

At this point, Tang Xiyan suddenly stopped, and his gaze became evasive.

“Go on!” Gossip mongers hated it when someone told only half of the story.

“Well, that guy, behind the scenes… He seemed interested in me

“!”

Tang Xiyan was still annoyed when talking about this, but he couldn’t bring himself to say that an Omega had touched his butt.

“Touched what?” Qu Di accurately seized the key point. If someone likes you, you don’t have to beat them up, do you?

Tang Xiyan’s gaze flickered. “He didn’t touch anything. I misspoke. In the end, I just gave him a beating and sent him straight to the hospital. Damn it!”

Qu Di knew about this incident. It had made headlines for a whole week, causing a big stir. Legally, assaulting an Omega as a non-Alpha was a serious civil offense. Initially, everyone condemned Tang Xiyan for not being an Alpha and even breaking an Omega’s arm, even saying he should be sent to prison.

However, unexpectedly, someone later revealed that Tang Xiyan had also been hospitalized and that it was actually Zhou Zhou who had acted first. Plus, Zhou Zhou had publicly apologized on social media, waived the chance to hold Tang Xiyan responsible, and announced his retirement. After that, public opinion shifted, and everyone sided with Tang Xiyan. That’s when things settled down.

Now, it seemed that the situation wasn’t as simple as it had appeared.

Tang Xiyan didn’t reveal one thing: he had been sent to the hospital not by Zhou Zhou but by his older brother. He dared not retaliate, and at the time, he felt quite wronged. He had been harassed, but his brother still wanted to beat him up and had sent him to the hospital. The next day, public opinion shifted in his favor, and he knew it was probably because of his brother.

After hearing the whole story, Qu Di seemed to understand. Repeatedly tarnishing the image of one’s idols would undoubtedly make their fans angry, and Dr. Yu had clearly not had any luck with Tang Xiyan ruining things behind the scenes.

Qu Di greeted the director, and they didn’t have any more scenes with Tang Xiyan to shoot that day. They returned to the hotel, but at the entrance, they ran into Shu Yi and his assistant, Zheng Siyi, who were also returning.

Shu Yi walked over to them, and they entered together. “How are you feeling? Are you better now?”

“It’s nothing serious. I can go home tomorrow.”

“Don’t push yourself too hard. We can shoot scenes without you for now.”

Tang Xiyan seized the opportunity to change the topic. “Weren’t you supposed to shoot two more scenes? Why is it ending so soon?”

Based on the previous schedule, he thought they’d be filming until late at night.

Shu Yi sighed, saying, “There’s been a problem. Wen Gu and Yang Ji had a conflict, and the director had no choice but to stop filming and let them cool down. We’ll continue tomorrow.”

“Yang Ji?” He actually dared to clash with Wen Gu. Everyone in the industry knew that, although Wen Gu had a good temper, he was strict about acting and often made his co-stars cry. He was scarier than the director.

“One scene just couldn’t satisfy Wen Gu, and they’ve already redone it nearly ten times. Wen Gu got angry and walked off the set.”

“The past few days went smoothly, didn’t they?” There was just one scene, but it was highly rated, and they got it right on the first take.

Shu Yi pointed out the issue, “The previous scenes were easy to act, like daily life. It was easy to do well. But this scene focuses on emotional expression and progression, and Yang Ji’s acting is too superficial. He doesn’t see the depth of the character. Those who understand acting can tell that he doesn’t grasp it.”

After Shu Yi said this, he noticed Qu Di was quite interested, listening intently. He joked, “You seem quite interested. Do you want to learn acting too?”

Under Shu Yi’s deep gaze, Qu Di’s face felt hot. “Shu Yi, please don’t tease me. I… I was just thinking.”

“Oh, really?” Shu Yi seemed to be thinking about something, and he glanced at Qu Di thoughtfully, then returned to his normal self and bid them farewell.

Chapter 11 – It’s hard to escape the Omegaverse trope!

Chapter 11

“Shu Yi, wake up. What are you doing here?”

Shu Yi squinted at him, his face very close and almost touching Du Qi’s: “Who are you?”

Qu Di felt a bit uneasy, avoiding direct eye contact and speaking hesitantly: “You… Why are you here? Where is your assistant and manager?”

Shu Yi looked a bit confused. He stood up, leaning on the wall: “Siyi… Siyi… Take Liumeng back! I can go back by myself.”

He swayed as he spoke, took his room key from his pocket, and turned to find his room. His speech was a bit slurred, perhaps due to being intoxicated. It was somewhat odd.

Qu Di wasn’t sure how to handle this situation. He couldn’t just leave Shu Yi like this, so he decided to take him back to his room. It didn’t seem like a big deal.

Qu Di approached him and held Shu Yi’s arm: “Come this way… I’ll take you back to your room.”

But the intoxicated Shu Yi was stubborn and didn’t want to listen. He insisted on going in the opposite direction: “My room is over there… I need to get back to read the script… Tomorrow…”

Qu Di had to coax him: “Alright, go back and read the script. The script is this way.”

“This way?”

They ended up dragging each other into the elevator like this. Shu Yi seemed tired, and he rested his head on Qu Di’s shoulder, almost falling asleep. Qu Di breathed a sigh of relief, surprised by how noisy Shu Yi had been while drunk.

They arrived at the room, and Qu Di took Shu Yi to the bed. After helping him take off his shoes, Shu Yi suddenly sat up, blinking at Qu Di.

Qu Di didn’t know what Shu Yi was up to and asked cautiously, “Shu Yi, are you okay?”

Shu Yi suddenly asked, “Do you want to practice acting with me?”

After saying this, he got out of bed barefoot and rummaged through the cabinet. Finally, he found a script and casually flipped it open to a page, then began reciting his lines.

Qu Di was still puzzled: “…”

Shu Yi continued, “Within the four seas and nine continents, only you dare to openly defy me, Gu Yuelin! Are you dissatisfied with your time on the border, or do you think Xu Ziming has lived too long!”

Shu Yi recited his lines with great enthusiasm, and he didn’t spare the appropriate vocal inflections. It was hard to believe that a drunk person was saying these lines.

“…”

After waiting for a long time without a response, Shu Yi, now slightly annoyed, walked up to Qu Di and said, “Your turn!” He opened the script and pointed to the lines below. “You need to say this.”

Qu Di hesitated for a moment and then stumbled through the lines, “I… um… My father is a founding hero, and I am now the General of the Nation. Your Majesty… Your Majesty…”

“Ah…” Shu Yi became a bit impatient and flipped a few pages. Frowning, he said, “Why haven’t you memorized your lines? This won’t do… Let’s try this scene. The lines are just two sentences. If you don’t perform well, I might have you replaced.”

Qu Di hadn’t had a chance to read what was written, but Shu Yi suddenly turned around, pushed him down on the bed, and tossed the script aside. Shu Yi’s hand reached for Qu Di’s waist, and he used his other hand to lift Qu Di’s chin, revealing a disdainful smile. “I told you that you’d be mine sooner or later.”

Though Qu Di knew it was part of the script, his heart skipped a beat. They were too close, and Shu Yi’s breath, with a hint of minty pheromones, was spraying onto his face. His expression and movements were filled with irresistible charm, as if he were a blue rose blooming in the dark night, tempting him to pluck it. He was captivated by Shu Yi’s bright black eyes and even forgot to resist.

Shu Yi watched him like this, and a few minutes later, he abruptly buried his face in Qu Di’s neck, not moving at all. The room instantly fell silent, with only the sound of the humidifier and Qu Di’s thundering heartbeat.

Qu Di gently pushed Shu Yi off him, placed him on the bed, covered him with a blanket, and quickly left.

The humidifier in the room continued running. A few minutes later, the person who had been sound asleep a moment ago suddenly opened his eyes, sat up, and rubbed his throbbing temples. He was surprisingly calm for a drunk person. He glanced at the script that had been thrown on the bedside table but now lay open. He couldn’t help but smile. This was an interesting turn of events.

After leaving the room, Qu Di rushed downstairs. He needed to calm down. He had even experienced an illusion, feeling surrounded by the refreshing scent of mint. He felt trapped, with no way to escape.

That night, Qu Di couldn’t sleep. This resulted in him being in a bad mood the next day. When he went to wake Tang Xiyan up, he even went to the wrong floor.

When they arrived on set, Shu Yi was already in the makeup chair, and Qu Di wondered how he had sobered up so quickly after getting so drunk the previous night.

Seeing them, Shu Yi greeted them naturally, “Good morning.”

Tang Xiyan yawned and sat down, “Morning.”

Qu Di stood quietly, not saying a word. But Shu Yi looked at him and asked, “Qu Di, why do you look so tired?”

He found a random excuse, “Well… maybe I just… couldn’t sleep well last night.”

Tang Xiyan interjected, “We told you to change rooms, but you refused. Look, you’re suffering now.”

“Qu Di, were you the one who helped me back to my room last night?”

Surprised to be singled out, Qu Di straightened his posture and struggled to speak fluently, “Uh… I saw you on the wrong floor, and it was my floor… Then… you were drunk, so I helped you… no, I escorted you back… and then I went back.”

Tang Xiyan noticed that Qu Di was sweating and found it strange, “Why do you look so nervous?”

Shu Yi felt embarrassed, “Is it because of something I did when I was drunk last night? If so, I apologize. I only vaguely remember seeing you, and I really don’t remember anything else.”

“No… It’s just… I briefly looked at the script.”

“Haha.” Shu Yi laughed, “I knew something was off when I found my script neatly placed on the bedside. I’m really sorry for the trouble. You shouldn’t have had to deal with it.”

“No problem, it was just a small effort.”

It seemed that Shu Yi didn’t remember anything, which was a relief for Qu Di. He could treat last night as an accident, and as long as Shu Yi didn’t say anything, no one would know.

Shu Yi looked at him with a odd expression.

The shoot went smoothly

for the first two days with almost no issues. Shu Yi and Wengu were professionals, so they were top-notch. What surprised Qu Di was that Tang Xiyan’s acting was surprisingly good. At least, from his perspective, there were no major issues. Even the director expressed clear appreciation for him, saying he should consider switching to acting full time.

After another scene was wrapped up, Qu Di realized that they would be working late into the night again. Shu Yi had just finished the scene where he received an award in the capital, so he had to wear that heavy, hot suit of armor again. The scene involved many people, and there were even some disobedient horses, so what should have been a few minutes of shooting took up an entire afternoon. When the director finally said “cut,” everyone on set let out a collective sigh of relief.

“Take a break, we have two more scenes later.”

The schedule on set was tight, and it looked like they would be working well into the night again. Qu Di walked over to help Tang Xiyan off his horse, handed him some water, and held an umbrella to shade him. “It’s cold water; it will help you cool down. Let’s go sit over there for a bit.”

Tang Xiyan was drenched in sweat. His clothing was soaked and clung uncomfortably to his skin. The armor was too heavy, and there was a bit of pain in his back. His throat was parched, feeling like it might catch fire.

“Y… You…” He started speaking, only to realize his voice was hoarse, as if something was stuck in his throat, making it difficult to speak.

After taking a couple of sips of water, he said, “You should have some water too. Look at your cracked lips; it’s as if you’ve been filming.”

Qu Di reached out to touch his own lips and realized they were indeed somewhat chapped. He had been standing in the sun for too long, and his face had turned red.

“I’ve had some water already.”

Tang Xiyan sat down under the shade of the umbrella, and Qu Di found a small fan to give him. “Take a break for a bit. After you’ve eaten, we’ll continue filming. How about I get some boxed meals for both of us?”

Qu Di brought back some boxed meals after a while. However, when he returned, he couldn’t find Tang Xiyan. He thought Tang Xiyan might have gone to change his clothes, but when he went to look for him, he found that Tang Xiyan had developed blisters on his back from the armor, and they had even burst. The director wanted him to go to the hospital for treatment, but Tang Xiyan refused.

“I told you I don’t…”

Qu Di approached, draping his light jacket over Tang Xiyan. “Come with me to the hospital.”

Tang Xiyan wanted to protest, but the pain in his back flared up when someone touched him, making him wince. He had to stop talking. Qu Di gave a reassuring look and said, “Come with me. We’re going to the hospital.”

Tang Xiyan almost said something, but when he saw Qu Di’s gentle and stern expression, he couldn’t bring himself to argue.

“Qu Di, hurry up and persuade him.” The director saw Qu Di and looked relieved. This star from Tangyi Entertainment, the one Tang Zong introduced, was a big deal, and he didn’t dare to say anything loud in front of him.

Tang Xiyan took off his coat, revealing his bare upper body. He was still wearing black cotton pants for the shoot.

“Don’t listen to them. It’s just a few blisters. Put some ointment on them, and you’ll be fine… Ah…” The person applying the medicine accidentally used a bit too much force, causing Tang Xiyan to cry out in pain.

Qu Di, who had been applying the medicine, called the driver of their company car to come pick them up.

“I said I don’t…”

Qu Di dr4p3d his light jacket over Tang Xiyan and said, “Come with me. We’re going to the hospital.”

Tang Xiyan was about to say something, but when he saw the firmness in Qu Di’s eyes, he couldn’t find the words.

“Qu Di, please persuade him.” The director looked relieved to see Qu Di. Tangyi Entertainment had a big influence in the entertainment industry, and he didn’t want to upset anyone.

When Qu Di returned, he brought Tang Xiyan to the hospital. The blisters on his back had burst, and he was in a lot of pain. The director had wanted him to go to the hospital, but Tang Xiyan had been reluctant. However, seeing Qu Di’s concern, he gave in.

At the hospital, Tang Xiyan was treated for his injuries. Qu Di stayed by his side, feeling a sense of responsibility.

As they left the hospital, Tang Xiyan spoke up, “Thank you for taking care of me today. I’m really sorry for causing you so much trouble.”

Qu Di replied, “It’s no trouble at all. I’m here to assist you, and making sure you’re comfortable and well is part of my job.”

They returned to the set, and filming continued. Tang Xiyan was unable to wear the armor due to his injuries, so the scene was adjusted. Qu Di kept an eye on him to make sure he didn’t overexert himself.

In the following days, the shoot continued without major issues. Qu Di was impressed by Tang Xiyan’s professionalism and determination. He saw that Tang Xiyan was putting in a lot of effort to give a great performance, and it earned him respect from the crew.

Despite the challenges, they managed to make steady progress on the production. Qu Di had his hands full assisting Tang Xiyan and ensuring that everything went smoothly.

After another successful day of filming, Qu Di felt a sense of accomplishment. He was grateful to be part of this project and to work with talented individuals like Shu Yi, Wengu, and Tang Xiyan.

However, the demands of the shoot and the long hours were taking a toll on everyone. Qu Di had already noticed signs of fatigue in himself, Shu Yi, and Tang Xiyan. They were pushing themselves to the limit to bring this story to life on the screen.

As they wrapped up another scene, Qu Di found Tang Xiyan and handed him a bottle of water. “You’ve been doing great, but don’t forget to stay hydrated. It’s been a long day.”

Tang Xiyan accepted the water and took a moment to catch his breath. “Thanks, Qu Di. I appreciate your support.”

Qu Di smiled, “You’re welcome. We’re a team, and we’re in this together.”

The days on set were intense, but they were also rewarding. Qu Di knew that this experience would stay with him for a long time. As they continued their journey through the world of filmmaking, Qu Di couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride in his role as an assistant. He was contributing to the success of this project and learning valuable lessons along the way.

The production continued, and Qu Di was committed to doing his best to assist the cast and crew in any way he could. He was ready for whatever challenges lay ahead, knowing that he was part of something special.
