Chapter 17

Although Suo Yang didn’t want to admit it, Shen Huiming was right.

Why did he feel like he was unable to position the other party? If he really didn’t feel anything at all, he could have refused politely and without hesitation, just like he did in the past.

Just like when Shen Huiming asked him for contact information for the first time.

But now, he was somewhat a little greedy for Shen Huiming.

Suo Yang smiled, and in order to hide his unease at being seen through, he deliberately bit into his plastic spoon and said “Is Mr Shen that confident?”

“Actually, I’m faking it,” Shen Huiming also smiled, “because I don’t think you like people who are not confident.”

Both men looked at each other with somewhat meaningful eyes, and their smiles each had hidden charms, hiding their heart.

“That’s right,” Suo Yang said, “I like confident people.”

Shen Huiming smiled brightly and was in a brighter mood too. Yesterday’s little trick was not in vain and neither was this frozen yoghurt today.

After the two of them finished eating, no one mentioned what they wanted to leave, and they walked slowly and leisurely down the empty corridor of the mall.

Neither of them was someone who liked to go shopping, and neither of them has the time to do so. Usually, Suo Yang’s rest time was used to catch up on his sleep, while Shen Huiming basically didn’t have any time to rest.

Such two people were actually willing to spend their precious time in this way at this moment, and Suo Yang felt that he had really changed.

“Suo Yang, let’s make a bet.”

“Huh?” Suo Yang looked at Shen Huiming, “What kind of bet?”

“If we run into each other on the plane again, just accept one of my invitations to date.”

Suo Yang laughed, “It doesn’t look like you want to go on a date with me too much.”

The odds of that were too low.

“I definitely want to, but I think the odds are that if I ask you out normally, you’ll turn me down.” Shen Huiming walked beside Suo Yang with a smile on his face, “Of course, you can deny my speculation, then I will immediately I’ll invite you to watch a movie together another day.”

Suo Yang smiled helplessly, “What to do? I’m a bit nervous about spending time with you now.”

He wasn’t joking as he realised that this man, Shen Huiming was almost looking right through him.

It created a very complex feeling for your next move to be guessed by someone accurately. There was a sense of joy in finding a very close friend and a sense of crisis in showing a flaw in front of the enemy.

He thought that Shen Huiming was very smart, and he dismantled him in a euphemistic and soft way that he could not hate.

For Suo Yang, this kind of person was still terrifying, and he had no chance of winning this game.

When he had no chance of winning, it was time to change his tactics.

       “Nervous?”

“Yes, I seem to be being led by your nose.”

Shen Huiming understood what he meant, and deliberately distanced himself slightly from Suo Yang.

How else could one say that Shen Huiming was a smart person? He could hear the other party’s underlying meaning from just Suo Yang’s one sentence.

Shen Huiming was a little eager to accomplish what he wanted, and Suo Yang was hinting to him that he still had to keep his distance for the time being.

Not just physical distance, but also psychological.

Shen Huiming said, “Then how about this, I’ll wait for you to ask me out.”

Suo Yang looked at him and then heard him say, “I’m too presumptuous sometimes, and I can’t control my sense of proportion. I’ll give you the remote control, and the receiver is with me. You can control it how you want.”

Suo Yang smiled: “Don’t, that’s not the relationship between us.”

Shen Huiming looked at him and waited for him to continue.

“Actually, you don’t need to be so careful with me, this makes me a bit stressed instead.” Suo Yang said, “I’m looking forward to seeing the real you.”

Indeed, the two met each other four times, and each time it was as if they were playing chess, with the two of them sparring on the art of war. Although they knew the starting point was good, they always felt insincere.

Suo Yang didn’t deny his affection for Shen Huiming, but it was enough up to that point. What he wanted to see next was not how smart Shen Huiming was, but how sincere the other party was.

He himself was actually the same.

Everyone was an opportunist and shrewd adult, and it took courage to express sincerity. This society is full of hot faces and cold asses1to show warm feelings but meet with cold rebuke, which made people reluctant to give their sincerity easily.

“I’m really wavering,” Suo Yang continued walking forward, “it’s like when we have to choose one of the two but don’t know which one to choose, and the moment we flip a coin we already have the answer in our minds. I’ve flipped the coin in my mind.”

Suo Yang’s words were totally unexpected, Shen Huiming didn’t expect the other party to be willing to talk to him openly about this so soon.

“I’ve been deceiving myself for many years, and I chose not to listen to or look at anything that I found troublesome,” Suo Yang smiled, “The same is true for relationship issues, I think it’s troublesome to fall in love.”

Shen Huiming smiled: “I used to think so too.”

The two looked at each other, both smiled helplessly.

“Life is very stressful and time is packed. I always feel that I don’t have the leisure to fall in love. Of course, a large part of the reason is that I don’t think I will meet someone who makes me willing to continue to compress my time to be with them.”

       Shen Huiming listened and nodded.

Suo Yang’s line of thoughts was not that unique. In this large but crowded city, people with such a mentality probably made up the majority.

“The day I met you for the first time, a colleague of mine asked me why I didn’t fall in love. I didn’t know the answer at the time. I could only say it’s just that the time has not come.” Suo Yang looked at the balloons floating in front of him and said softly, “But fate is too mysterious. Whether it exists or not, who knows?”

Shen Huiming had always been a person who didn’t believe in the so-called ‘fate’ and ‘destiny’, but his recent experience made him realise that maybe fate did exist, and maybe the matchmaker god, Yue lao2is one of the gods of Taoism, in charge of men and women of marriage gods had already tied red threads to everyone’s wrists.

“I’m still not sure if fate exists, but it is undeniable that the three consecutive encounters with you have made me care about you.” Suo Yang chuckled, “It’s quite embarrassing to say that suddenly. “

“Mr Shen, I’m saying this because I hope you know I’m trying to show you my sincerity,” Suo Yang said, “I just made a request to you, saying that I would like to see a more real you. As the call, so the echo; I can’t just let you show your real side and still do nothing.”

Suo Yang’s words surprised Shen Hui Ming to the extent that he couldn’t find the right way to respond for a while. The other side stood still, looking at him with a pale face and smiling.

“Well, as you said, if we meet on the plane again, I’ll go on a date with you.” Suo Yang said, “You can decide what kind of date it is, as long as it doesn’t interfere with work, I’ll accept it anytime, anywhere, and in any way.”

He looked at Shen Huiming and said with a smile, “But if not, then we are not meant to be. Mr Shen, do you still want to play this bet?”

Shen Huiming stopped with him, and the two looked at each other as if facing each other.

Shen Huiming smiled: “Bet. Of course, I have to bet, and I promise not to do any little tricks behind my back.”

After all, he also wanted to know if anyone was fiddling with their fate at 30,000 feet.

Chapter 16

One of the reasons Suo Yang felt comfortable with Shen Huiming was that he was good at revealing his mind at the right time and expressing his sincerity at the right time.

It could be extremely uncomfortable to get along with someone who was all about so-called generic conversation topics, but it could also be annoying to be an adult who didn’t know how to be discreet or when to stop.

Shen Huiming had a good grasp of when to advance and when to step back so Suo Yang was always in the middle of two situations when he was with him—he was in control of Shen Huiming as Shen Huiming was in control of him.

It was like the two of them were dancing the tango, crossing their steps, moving in and out, never looking each other in the eye, knowing everything, but testing each other.

       It was somewhat amusing.

“I want to know too,” Suo Yang said. “I’ve been waiting for that person too.”

Shen Huiming looked at him, and was unexpectedly satisfied with Suo Yang’s answer, because at least this sentence was not for show, and it was rare to hear Suo Yang’s sincerity from it.

“Everyone is waiting.” Shen Huiming said, “When I was a teenager, I was thinking about what kind of person I will fall in love with and what kind of person I will be with in the future. I listed a lot of criteria and reasons for loving someone. However, the more I grew up, the more I realized that love has no criteria or reasons.”

Suo Yang listened to his words and nodded gently to show his agreement.

“I chatted with Tongyan that day and talked about this.” Shen Huiming felt that he was not very kind and sincere. At this time he caught Jiang Tongyan and let him appear to whip him. “He said you met all his expectations for a lover.”

       Suo Yang laughed, “Really?”

“Of course, it’s also possible that he modified his standard after meeting you.”

Suo Yang laughed softly when he said that, and he was in a good mood, not as uncomfortable as before.

Shen Huiming liked to see Suo Yang laugh like this, there was a kind of heartwarming feeling that made people pity him.

“By the way,” Suo Yang suddenly turned around and asked Shen Huiming, “How is Mr Jiang? I didn’t have time to say goodbye to him yesterday.”

He mentioned Jiang Tongyan on purpose, just like Shen Huiming mentioned the other side on purpose.

“He should be fine,” Shen Huiming said. “I guess.”

He didn’t tell Suo Yang that the person might be having a good time in the hotel at the moment, so he had the possibility to gossip about his rival behind his back. If Jiang Tongyan had already been in a process of getting together with someone else yet still came to flirt with Suo Yang, he would definitely stop him. However, he would have only dealt with Jiang Tongyan to his face, and would never have done something like “telling on” Suo Yang behind his back.

“The… curse he said yesterday, is it true?”

Shen Huiming didn’t expect Suo Yang to remember this, and he didn’t expect the other party to ask about it.

How to answer this question was a matter of knowledge.

“It was indeed true before I met you,” Shen Huiming said. “Tongyan and I were classmates for four years. Apart from the two of us, there are four other parties who can testify to this.”

Suo Yang asked knowingly, “So why do you say before me?”

“After I met you, I lost confidence in myself.” Shen Huiming was very frank this time, “It’s strange to say, I’m not the kind of person who has low self-esteem. Of course, I don’t feel inferior when I get along with you. I just feel uncertain.”

Suo Yang’s smile faded, but there was still a vague smile in his eyes. He wanted to see what Shen Huiming would say.

“Have you ever been in that situation? It was a situation where you’ve always won everything, but then suddenly one day you meet someone and everything becomes full of uncertainty.”

“Do you feel uncomfortable because of this feeling?”

“No.” Shen Huiming smiled at him, “On the contrary, I enjoyed it.”

He took a bite of frozen yoghurt, savouring the taste Suo Yang liked.

“You know, life is boring. I should thank you for adding something unusual to my boring life.”

Suo Yang’s hand that was holding the spoon was slightly sweaty.

He found himself and Shen Huiming had two very different attitudes on such matters.

“You don’t seem to be the kind of person with a life full of noises and excitement.” Shen Huiming said, “Although it’s rude to speculate on your life without permission, I do want to have a good chat with you.”

       Suo Yang looked at him.

“Let’s talk about us, not about cufflinks, not Jiang Tongyan, not millet congee or frozen yoghurt.” Shen Huiming said sincerely, “I know we should take our time, and the aggressive approach will only make you turn around and walk away. But can you give me something sweet first, so I know what kind of position I have in your heart after these few meetings?”

Shen Huiming’s words made Suo Yang silent for a long time. During this silence, he kept thinking about the meaning behind these words.

He understood that this was a multiple-choice question given to him by Shen Huiming.

Adults, especially people like them, had to weigh the pros and cons of everything they did.

       Including how they felt.

With their short lives and limited energy, people endure things far more than others could imagine.

The older they got, the more afraid they were to enter into a relationship because something like falling in love takes time and energy. When one were in love, one must give a part of yourself to the other party, and one must break the deep-rooted life, or the rhythm would be completely disrupted.

The adult romance was a very thorough adventure, since they were very realistic people, and everyone would think twice before embarking on this adventure.

The impulses of youth would be there, but eventually, they would be overwhelmed by reason.

They were mundane and profane. However, that was who they are, which was an undeniable truth.

Suo Yang appreciates Shen Huiming’s honesty because they really didn’t need to beat around the bush.

If one had a good feeling and felt that they could try to connect, then go ahead and try to become intimate.

But if the death sentence had been given at this moment, there was no need to dwell on others, everyone was very busy.

Suo Yang was considering how to answer, while Shen Huiming waited quietly for his sentence to be announced.

This was actually a gamble that Shen Huiming had made. It was all up to Suo Yang whether he lost or won.

A full five minutes had passed. Shen Huiming’s confidence was being depleted, and he was even ready to extinguish his thoughts about Suo Yang from now on. After all, he had explicitly hinted at the other party several times but still remained unmoved. So if he continued to pester them, it would only add to their troubles.

They all need to be decent in this sort of thing.

Suo Yang was actually in a bit of a dilemma, he rarely encountered such a tangled situation. Shen Huiming had given him a difficult problem.

“Mr Shen,” Suo Yang said, turning to Shen Huiming, who was uneasy, “what if I say I don’t know how I should position you?”

Shen Huiming breathed a sigh of relief at his answer, then laughed.

“Since you said that, then I understand what to do next.” Shen Huiming looked at him with a smile, “Do you know why you feel unable to position me? Because you have been shaken.”

Chapter 6

Since my return, many changes had taken place in my mind.

Beginning with panic, discomfort, and struggle, to feeling unwilling and trying very hard in between… to finally resigned to fate and be at peace.

I really, really did try very hard and so much.

I tried to become mature and stable, and I also started to bring home all sorts of maintenance and health products when I see my parents and learned to help them share some of the chores and miscellaneous tasks of life. But perhaps I had it too easy for the first half of my life and I still did so badly that my parents finally sighed and took over the work under me with a smile.

“Forget it, just go just go and rest if you don’t want to.” they said.

I embarrassedly said, “No, II really don’t know how to…” wash and scale fish, but they didn’t seem to believe it and kicked me out of the kitchen.

Actually, I can learn, practice makes perfect, you know?

But the previous Ze’an was so good at it that my earnest learning process was considered perfunctory.

       Ugh.

I also learned to give various suggestions to Fu Shan, who came to consult me about relationship issues.

But still, I personally was someone with one track of mind. When I saw Fu Shan complaining about her boyfriend, I listened to her from her point of view as before, and said angrily, “Just break up, the next one would be much better.”

Instead, Fu Shan was stunned, and asked me hesitantly, “Should we really break up? … Ze’an, look at it objectively, he is actually quite good sometimes…”

I regret that I couldn’t live up to the expectation, “Didn’t you say that he doesn’t reply to you very much?”

Fu Shan said, “Yes, but Song Ge used to be like this too. He is a person who doesn’t talk much online. Mostly in other places…”

She hesitated for a while, then sighed.

“Forget it, I’ll think about it myself. Ze’an, you should go to bed earlier too.”

I seemed to hear this sigh often.

From my parents, from my friends, and from everyone around me.

I started to question my own existence and hated myself for not being able to do anything well. I started to understand the sympathetic gaze of the grim reaper at that time; I shouldn’t really have come back, should I? I was really self-indulgent and thought of myself as someone special.

Obviously, what everyone needed was the other Ze’an.

But apart from Ji Qin, who I spent a lot of time with, no one seemed to realize that I was no longer the Ze’an I used to be.

I also tried to be close to Ji Qin

Because of the fake Ze’an’s absence, he actually lived a very depressing life, but he did not accept my comfort. As I’ve said before, he didn’t want to see me and even dreaded seeing me.

       Hey, I actually, could understand.

But still, I was very sad and didn’t know who to talk to.

When Ji Qin came back one day, he was drunk. He didn’t find the key at the door, so he naturally called me and gently called on the phone, Ze’an Ze’an, open the door quickly.

I was flattered. In fact that he hadn’t called me a single time before that.

I rushed to the entrance to open the door for him two steps at a time. Ji Qin, with drunken eyes, leaned on the door sill and said to me with a smile, “Ze’an, I knew you would come back.”

I pursed my lips, not daring to look at him directly, and with great difficulty picked up his heavy body, and prepared to take him to his room.

He was still whispering, “I knew it, Ze’an, I’ve been waiting for you…”

I really wish I was deaf at this point.

When I finally put him on the bed, he was suddenly very uncooperative. He wouldn’t let me touch him and resisted my attempts to take off his jacket.

       “Zean, are you leaving?”

“You want me to go to bed early and then leave, right?”

I was helpless. It was the first time I saw such a childish Ji Qin, but I was also very sad because no matter what Ji Qin appeared to be, it was not for me.

       “Ze’an, are you going…”

In the end, Ji Qin seemed tired and took my hand and said softly, his tone seemed to be pleading.

       My heart ached with it.

I sat beside him and slowly leaned over and hugged him, he seemed to be stunned for a second, then wrapped his arms around me more tightly the next second.

I soothed him and said, “I’m not leaving.”

He loved listening to this sentence, and his body relaxed a little, and his grip on my hand was not so hard anymore.

So I continued, “I’m not leaving.”

I kept repeating these words until I was a little numb myself. Until I felt that he was completely at ease.

He suddenly turned his head and put his lips on mine.

I was startled, the kiss was very light and nimble, and before I could react, the warmth on my lips had disappeared.

Ji Qin narrowed his eyes in confusion, “Ze’an, why are you crying?”

Chapter 5

       Today was a sunny day.

After I muddled along without any aim for some time, I began to gradually figure out that my return might indeed be meaningless.

I had a talk with the grim reaper on the other side.

I used to love my life, everything I had, my good friends, my parents, and even the college days when I stared at Ji Qin for so long and had a crush on him.

We kissed at Ji Qin’s university graduation party.

After the kiss, I didn’t feel like playing anymore and pretended to be embarrassed and said I wanted to withdraw. In reality, my heartbeat had engulfed all the noise in the room, and my mind had no room for anything else.

Ji Qin also said that he was going to withdraw. He didn’t look at me and silently sipped a glass of wine.

I sneaked up on him and then shyly asked him for his WeChat.

Ji Qin didn’t say anything, he looked at me with great interest, as if he was thinking carefully, and scrutinizing me. Just when I was disappointed that he was going to refuse, he opened his phone and asked me to add him.

I was ecstatic and grinned to the fullest.

The first step in a long journey, I made it.

After that, I would send messages to Ji Qin every day and tell him about my daily life. I would also say good morning and good night to him or forward some short articles that I thought were funny.

       Surprisingly, Ji Qin would reply.

I was elated and drifted off thinking I was in a relationship with Ji Qin, and when I told Fu Shan about it, she was also very optimistic about our relationship.

Could I really chase after Ji Qin?

I really wanted to take the initiative to ask him out, just the two of us, but I didn’t dare to. Just like this, summer vacation was almost over, until one day, Ji Qin suddenly said to me, “Are you free tomorrow?”

I froze, and some kind of premonition rushed through my head. I didn’t have time to confirm before I replied back in seconds, “Yes.”

“Can you come out to meet me?” Ji Qin said, “I have something to tell you.”

The next day, I couldn’t wait to rush out the door, but I never saw him again.

It was also a sunny day, and I felt the daylight was so sunny it blocked my vision, and then I heard a blaring sound of a car.

       I was gone.

The grim reaper told me that I was dead.

I was in so much pain, thinking that I would never see my parents who loved me again, my lovely Fu Shan, and Ji Qin again—I told the grim reaper that I didn’t want to die.

The grim reaper told me that at best I would be a vegetative person who would not wake up.

I began to despair, not knowing what to do. In the midst of the darkness, the black shadow, probably feeling I am too unlucky, said to me, “There is another way.”

I began to think that I had heard it wrong and looked up excitedly as the grim reaper said slowly, “There is a soul in a similar situation to you, but his time has not come, and he can’t go back to his physical body. Let him stay in your body for enough time, and you just take a good rest during that time. A rest for your soul and a punishment for running a red light and disrupting traffic.”

Huh? Something doesn’t feel right about having someone replace me. With different behaviour patterns, won’t it be discovered?

I asked my question, and the grim reaper said, “No one will know. People who believe in science will only think that you have amnesia or a split personality. When you go back, you will say that you are cured.”

He said it as if everything was already a matter of course, and I was convinced by him to agree to this solution.

I didn’t want to be in a vegetative state, and I didn’t want to die like that.

That I would feel so sorry.

       Everything was clearly just beginning.

After that, my eyes went black and I fell into a deep sleep. Sometimes I seemed to hear some buzzing human voices, sometimes I couldn’t, and everything that had happened over the years felt like a dream to me.

Something was wrong, would I never wake up again?

Would someone ever forget my existence?

I started to get anxious for no reason, I struggled to wake up. I asked the grim reaper if it was the time, that I wanted to go back, and I couldn’t take it anymore.

The grim reaper was silent for a very long time this time, and I felt as if he was staring at me, with a look that I didn’t understand, like a pity.

After a long time, he said, You should go back.

Chapter 4

Ji Qin asked me again if the former Ze’an would come back.

I was actually unusually tired those days and didn’t want to socialise with anyone, yet he came over to ask me that question again.

I told him helplessly, “You know, I’m actually Ze’an, and that Ze’an is an outsider.”

When Ji Qin heard the words, his expression froze slightly, as if he was unhappy.

“So will he be back or not?” he asked, unwilling to give up. “For example, the real him, coming back in a different form. What I like about him is the person he is, not his appearance.”

What I like about him is the person he is.

I lost my mind. I envy that Ze’an so much.

I took a moment before saying, “Maybe he will.”

These words felt like they took a great deal of my strength again, and I felt I couldn’t feign composure to stand in front of Ji Chin, so I hurried to my room and closed the door.

I’m so tired, why no one likes me now?

They all prefer that Ze’an. My friend, my parents, the person I like, and so I too began to wonder why I had come back. I was like a villain, no one expected me to return.

It was as if trying so hard to come back was just to make a fool of myself.

My first head-to-head encounter with Ji Qin was at the class’s graduation party.

I had had a crush on Ji Qin for so long, but Ji Qin was so indifferent to strangers, and I have no idea what to do. Except for secretly following him with my eyes, which I only feared would turn him off.

It wasn’t until the year he graduated that one of Fu Shan’s best friends got together with one of the boys in Ji Qin’s class, and Fu Shan cheekily asked to be able to attend the graduation party, bringing me along with her.

I was so excited that I tidied myself up and went to participate.

Their graduation party was first held in a popular restaurant for students. After everyone finished eating, they changed the venue to a KTV1karaoke place. There were about twenty people in total. Unfortunately, I was not able to share a table with Ji Qin in the restaurant, but I finally got to sit opposite him at the KTV thanks to Fu Shan’s help.

Ji Qin didn’t sing and was playing with his phone with an indifferent expression on his face, so I secretly raised my eyes to look at him, to see his beautiful brows and slender fingers, and the more I looked, the more I liked him. This was the first time I was so close to him.

Ji Qin suddenly put away his phone, as if he noticed my gaze, and raised his head in my direction, just in time to capture the gaze I didn’t have time to retract.

At the moment when our eyes met, my brain was stunned, my cheeks quickly flushed red, and even a little sweat broke out on my body. I quickly avoided his gaze, I was so nervous that I didn’t know what to do.

Would he find out that I liked him?

After singing on KTV for a long time, a group of people couldn’t help but get tired of singing. There was a lot of commotion about playing a game of Truth or Dare, and they ordered alcohol as if they wouldn’t return until they were drunk.

I was nervous again because I couldn’t drink.

But Fu Shan pulled me to let me participate, she thought it was a very good opportunity to get close to Ji Qin. Generally speaking, after a few rounds of games like this, everyone would be able to get to know each other well. I thought it was reasonable.

I could only secretly pray that I won’t be pulled to drink.

In the first few rounds, perhaps God heard my prayers and I was safe. Ji Qin was chosen to have a Dare of eating a Pocky with a girl. He refused and ended up drinking a whole glass of wine. While I was secretly happy, I was also a little disappointed.

He didn’t seem to like this type of game.

In the end, I didn’t expect that in the next round, it would be my turn to be selected for a 15-second mouth-to-mouth Dare with No. 4. I was taken aback by the noise of a group of people shouting and cheering. I was about to just let it go about not drinking, and found that No. 4 was actually Ji Qin.

I was dumbfounded and looked at him blankly, and he frowned at me, his gaze was dark and unclear.

Through the atmosphere, I somehow got a little courage. This was a great opportunity, if, if this was the last time I could see Ji Qin…

I plucked up my courage and leaned in his direction. He frowned and seemed to duck backwards as if trying to hide. I didn’t give him this chance, and I reached out and quickly pressed the back of his head—

The next second, I put my lips lightly on his lips.

The people around seemed to be screaming, and I couldn’t hear it very clearly, but I could clearly hear Ji Qin’s messy breathing, and I could even smell the faint smell of alcohol on him—it should have been the party dare he drank. It all made me dizzy, and I felt as if I was dreaming, but I knew for sure that it wasn’t.

Someone was counting down, and I pressed my lips against him a little nervously, and I was suddenly eager to taste the wine he’d just had, so I did so. I carefully stuck my tongue out and licked his lips, he was drinking a fruity c0cktail that was sweet and I liked it so much that I forgot that I never seemed to have had alcohol before.

I was still in a daze when I suddenly felt as if the tip of my tongue had been licked. I was startled, and before I could react, I was pushed away by Ji Qin.

Someone next to him shouted, “Fifteen seconds is up!”

“You’re too brave, Fang Ze’an! You actually dare to go!”

       …

I dumbly touched my lips and subconsciously went to look at Ji Qin across the room. His lips became very rosy, he stared at me for a while and withdrew his gaze with a puzzled look.

       …Did he just kiss me?

Chapter 20

Zhou Yan looked at Ning Junyan in a panic, as if he didn’t know how to react.

It was Chen Yuncheng who said, “It has been sixteen years.”

That year, when the foster father and foster mother were arrested and imprisoned, Ning Junyan left with his parents, Zhou Yan was sent back to his hometown, and Chen Yuncheng entered a welfare institution. After they separated, they did not get together again until this year.

It should have been a touching scene, but Zhou Yan couldn’t care about it at this time, he still had his own worries.

Ning Junyan took out his right hand from his jacket pocket and stretched it out in front of Zhou Yan.

Zhou Yan took his hand and forced a smile.

When he let go, Ning Junyan asked Chen Yuncheng, “Did I interrupt your conversation?”

Chen Yuncheng shook his head, “No, how did you know we were here?”

Ning Junyan raised his head slightly, “I saw it from the office window.”

When Chen Yuncheng heard the words, he looked up and saw that directly opposite the garden was the inpatient building where Ning Junyan’s department was located, with a glass window facing his office. At that time, Chen Yuncheng glanced down from his office window and vaguely remembered that there was a garden below.

“Still not off duty yet? Or are you on duty today?” Chen Yuncheng asked.

Ning Junyan said, “There is an operation in the afternoon, and I just finished it.”

When Chen Yuncheng heard him say this, he suddenly noticed that his hair was still slightly damp, probably it was not long after he took a shower.

“Have you eaten yet?” Chen Yuncheng asked him.

       Ning Junyan shook his head.

Zhou Yan standing beside was somewhat a little irritable, he gently pulled Chen Yuncheng’s sleeve, and whispered, “Cheng ge, I have something to tell you.”

After he said this, Ning Junyan looked at him.

Ning Junyan’s eyes seemed calm and did not contain any emotion, but Zhou Yan’s heart trembled for no reason, and for some reason he suddenly recalled the first time he met Ning Junyan when he was a child.

Zhou Yan was different from Chen Yuncheng and Ning Junyan. He ran away from home by himself when he was only seven years old that year. He was alone on the street and met the foster father. The foster father bought food for him and said he would find him a place to live. He could work in exchange for food and asked him if he wanted to follow. He agreed.

When Zhou Yan followed the foster father back to the yard, he saw Chen Yuncheng and Ning Junyan. At that time, Chen Yuncheng was tolerable, but Ning Junyan was already quite tall, almost taller than the foster father. Chen Yuncheng was very friendly to him, but Ning Junyan left him with a deep impression.

He still remembered that when they went into the yard, the foster father called out Chen Yuncheng, saying that he had brought a child back.

Chen Yuncheng squatted on the steps, greeted him with a smile, and said, “My name is Chen Yuncheng, what’s yours?”

Zhou Yan, who had been wandering alone for a month or two, was not afraid of someone new and said to Chen Yuncheng, “I’m Zhou Yan.”

Chen Yuncheng smiled and said, “Hello.”

The foster father went into the kitchen at that time, and only Chen Yuncheng and Zhou Yan were left in the yard. Chen Yuncheng suddenly waved to Zhou Yan and motioned him to go over.

       Zhou Yan approached nervously.

Chen Yuncheng approached his ear and asked him in a low voice, “How did you come here? Where are your family members?”

Zhou Yan lied, “I have no family.”

“Oh,” Chen Yuncheng’s eyes instantly became gentler when he looked at him, probably feeling a little sympathetic to him.

At this time, Ning Junyan walked out of the room, stopped beside Chen Yuncheng, and looked down at Zhou Yan.

Ning Junyan, who was already tall, was standing at the bottom of the steps. He looked at Zhou Yan with a cold gaze and did not open his mouth to speak.

At that moment, Zhou Yan felt a strong sense of oppression, and he subconsciously stepped back several steps, farther away from Chen Yuncheng and Ning Junyan.

Ning Junyan crouched down beside Chen Yuncheng.

Chen Yuncheng turned his head to look at him, took out candy from his pocket, and asked him, “Want some candy?”

Ning Junyan didn’t answer, but just reached out and took the candy, his nimble fingers quickly peeled off the candy wrapper, and then fed the candy into Chen Yuncheng’s mouth.

The candy was fed to Chen Yuncheng suddenly, and subconsciously opened her mouth to take it in before he whispered, “It’s for you.”

       Ning Junyan just said “um”.

Zhou Yan looked at them, and at the same time heard his foster father calling him loudly in the kitchen, so he responded and walked towards the kitchen. Before he entered the kitchen, he couldn’t help but look back and saw Chen Yuncheng turning his head to Ning Junyan’s ear. After saying something in a low voice, Ning Junyan didn’t move. After a while, Chen Yuncheng smiled and reached out to pat Ning Junyan’s face, then turned back and continued to look at the middle of the yard.

The first time he saw Ning Junyan, Zhou Yan was not afraid of him at that time. What made him feel that Ning Junyan was a scary person was the latter half a year together. Ning Junyan almost killed his godfather and was stopped by Chen Yuncheng and the foster mother.

Zhou Yan was in the corner at that time and did not dare to move a muscle. It almost became difficult to breathe, so this fear of Ning Junyan has spread to the present.

He originally wanted to chat with Chen Yuncheng in private for a while, but at this time he couldn’t say anything, and could only look at Ning Junyan nervously.

Ning Junyan said to Chen Yuncheng, “Would you like to accompany me to dinner?”

Chen Yuncheng didn’t answer him immediately but glanced at Zhou Yan.

Zhou Yan didn’t dare to speak and anxiously waited for Chen Yuncheng’s answer.

In the end, Chen Yuncheng nodded to Ning Junyan and said, “Sure.”

Zhou Yan couldn’t help calling out again, “Cheng ge.”

Chen Yuncheng said to Zhou Yan, “Let’s go together, you haven’t seen each other for so long either, we can talk.”

Zhou Yan was not in the mood to eat, and he didn’t really want to stay with Ning Jun for an extended period of time. He said, “I have to go see my son. Jiajia should go back to take a bath and rest.”

Chen Yuncheng knew it was no good to force it and said to Zhou Yan, “Then go, I’ll call you later.”

       Zhou Yan responded quickly, “Okay.”

Ning Junyan had a very simple dinner. He did not drive, but left the hospital on foot with Chen Yuncheng, went to a nearby fast-food restaurant, and ordered a set meal.

“Don’t you want to eat something?” Ning Junyan asked Chen Yuncheng.

Chen Yuncheng shook his head and sat opposite him, “I’ll watch you eat.”

The fast-food restaurant was brightly lit, and since it was already after dinner time, there were only seven or eight tables of guests, all of whom were far away from each other, so the surroundings around the two of them seemed quiet.

Ning Junyan ate in a very refined manner. He picked up the cola delivered with the set meal, and then unwrapped the plastic packaging of the spoon, when he lowered his head to scoop the rice, he raised his head and asked Chen Yuncheng, “Are you here to accompany me to dinner?”

Chen Yuncheng smiled and said, “Yeah.” But then he said, “You eat first, and I’ll tell you something after eating.”

Ning Junyan said, “You can just say it.”

Chen Yuncheng said, “I’ll wait for you to finish eating.”

The spoon in Ning Junyan’s hand didn’t move, he just said, “I told you, you can come to me with anything.”

Chen Yuncheng hesitated for a moment, and he said, “Can you help Zhou Yan?”

Ning Junyan didn’t speak, and just motioned Chen Yuncheng to continue with his eyes.

Chen Yuncheng said, “His son is sick and is now hospitalised in your hospital, he still has to wait for the right time to have an operation, which will cost a large sum of money.”

When Ning Junyan heard this, he lowered his head and started to eat the food on his plate. While eating, he asked in a flat tone, “How much is a large sum of money?”

Chen Yuncheng said, “A hundred thousand or so, I don’t know how much money he has now.”

Ning Junyan ate and didn’t speak, Chen Yuncheng looked at him quietly and didn’t want to disturb him, until he stopped to drink water, and when he raised his head again, he said to Chen Yuncheng, “Did you ask me for help or did he ask me for help?”

Chen Yuncheng didn’t answer, but asked, “Do you mean you won’t help if he was the one asking for your help?”

Ning Junyan looked at him and said, “The price is different.”

Chen Yuncheng smiled, “I’m the one who asked for your help, so tell me what the price is, can I afford to pay it?”

Ning Junyan didn’t answer for a long time and looked straight at Chen Yuncheng until Chen Yuncheng was a little uncomfortable with his gaze, and then he said, “You can afford it.”

The author has something to say:

Chen Yuncheng was not a big shot in the past. In fact, he and his friends are people at the bottom of the social ladder. They have no money and have never read any books. They always wanted to make a lot of money but had no channels, and most of the time the little money they made was quickly spent ……

Chapter 3

After I split up with Fu Shan, I felt very tired. I felt that a long time ago, my life was very simple, and I was happy every day. In Fu Shan’s words, as happy as a fool every day.

But after I came back, I was very unhappy.

I liked Ji Qin very much, but Ji Qin had the words unwelcome written all over his face. I met my best friend, Fu Shan, and it turned out that she also preferred that fake Ze’an.

What am I left with? Oh, my parents…

I perked up a little. I chatted with my parents on WeChat in the past few days, and I didn’t expose any flaws. They were the ones who gave birth to me and raised me, so they wouldn’t dislike me too, right?

I immediately bought a bunch of flowers, fruits and vegetables and rushed to my old home. My mother opened the door, I hadn’t seen her for two years, and the moment I saw her, tears fell from my eyes, and I shouted, “Mom!”

Two years was not a long time, but it was not a short time either. I felt that my mother had more grey hair on her head, and I don’t know if it was just my illusion.

My mother sighed and complained, “Why are you so emotional all of a sudden? And you’re carrying so many things. What are you crying for? Come on in.”

I wiped away my tears and followed her into the house, “Where’s dad?”

My mother carried my things to the living room and said, “He’ll be back later. What do you want to eat tonight, why are you here all of a sudden, I’ll buy it for you.”

“Ah, I remember you told me last time that liked my crucian carp soup best. Should I get the fish?”

I was stunned when I heard the words. My mother’s crucian carp soup was indeed very good, but my favourite was her braised pork ribs. I could finish two bowls of rice with the soup.

Unable to erase the presence of the fake Ze’an, I had to laugh, “What about braised pork ribs? I want to eat it too.”

My mother was about to leave the house, and when she heard my words, she turned back and said, “You want ribs again? Didn’t you say you didn’t think it was refreshing enough? I haven’t made them in ages…”

I gave her a perfunctory mumble and she didn’t bother to say too much, told me to wait and merrily went off to buy groceries.

I was annoyed by the presence of the fake Ze’an, but I couldn’t help it.

Dad returned in the evening and wasn’t surprised to see me. He smiled and said, “You’ve come to see us again, I was still nagging at you for not coming a while ago.”

My hand that was holding the ribs stopped. Does the while ago refer to the time when I first returned?

In fact, it hadn’t been that long, but I was a bit scared to meet my parents because of everything I’d been through so far. I thought of first relying on texting and exchanging messages to gain a little sense of security before going to them, so the changes wouldn’t be so noticeable.

My mother said, “Yeah, you visit us every now and then. Don’t you still get annoyed with us in college? It seems like you’ve really grown up. Now you and I could chatter and listen to each other patiently. How nice it would have been.”

I stared at the rice in the bowl and said softly, “Is that so…”

As if thinking of something, Dad smiled and said, “How’s xiao Ji doing these days? Why didn’t he come along?”

       Huh? Which xiao Ji?

       …Ji Qin?

My brain took a hit and for a moment and I didn’t get what they meant—did the fake Ze’an even come out1come out as gay for me……

“It’s not a fight, is it?” My mother looked at my expression. As if she had realized something, put down her chopsticks and started preaching, “I think xiao Ji likes you very much. Now that you have grown up, you should be considerate and understanding of each other when you live together, you know? It all comes down to this. Don’t do that silent treatment to the other person ah……”

The moon was high in the trees when I returned, my head was blank as I carried a box of chocolates for Ji Qin that my parents had forced on me.

The fake Ze’an, he did a really good job…

He was filial, mature, brave, stable and understanding. He was so good at everything, everyone loved him, and who else would want to look back at the plain, ordinary, silly me?

How was I supposed to continue my life as the original owner of this body?

Notes:
Tbh this story just made me feel uncomfortable in a way. Imagine someone got isekaid to your body, do their isekai protagonist thing and then left. Then you came back, and everything changed, and then they thought you are the fake one…

Chapter 15

Apart from at the company, Suo Yang rarely ate with others, and he was never one to call people his friends either. After Zhou Mo moved out, he mostly kept to himself.

Therefore, Suo Yang would still feel somewhat uncomfortable sitting face-to-face and eating congee with someone he didn’t know very well like this.

Fortunately, Shen Huiming acted very naturally and did not pay too much attention to Suo Yang.

He would take care of Suo Yang, but he would not be too deliberate. Suo Yang could do things like taking a spoon and a tissue by himself.

As the two of them ate, they chatted softly one after another, not going too deep into the conversation, but just commenting on the taste of congee and the way the dishes were prepared.

Suo Yang smiled, “I didn’t expect you to know how to cook congee.”

“I don’t only know how to make congee.” Shen Huiming said with a smile, “When I was studying in New York, I didn’t learn much from a proper course, but my cooking skills were quite good.”

Suo Yang thought about his cooking skills, smiled, and continued to eat his congee without saying anything.

Shen Huiming really wanted to show his skills to Suo Yang. Although he was not sure if the saying “to capture a man, you have to capture his stomach first” was true, but it was certainly true that if you liked someone, you wanted to show everything you were good at in front of them.

However, even though Shen Huiming had some free time and wanted to show off more, he couldn’t open his mouth to invite the other party to his home.

There would always be opportunities in the future.

Shen Huiming comforted himself with this.

After the two of them finished eating, Suo Yang still felt uncomfortable and walked out of the restaurant with a frown on his face.

When he saw Suo Yang like this, Shen Huiming couldn’t bear to force the other person to accompany him, so he asked him if he wanted to go back to rest first.

His approach made Suo Yang feel quite good. Shen Huiming knew the right balance and it was not that much of a burden to get along with him.

The two walked out, but Suo Yang suddenly felt like vomiting, and subconsciously grabbed Shen Huiming’s wrist.

Shen Huiming responded quickly and asked him if he wanted to vomit.

Suo Yang closed his eyes and nodded gently with an ugly expression on his face.

Shen Huiming directly pulled his wrist and led him towards the nearby shopping mall, and he found the restroom without a hitch.

Suo Yang went in and vomited secretly. He leaned against the wall of the cubicle and thought that it was really embarrassing. He thought he would feel better after coming out of the house to get some fresh air, but to his surprise, he threw up again.

So, at the end of the day, he shouldn’t have had those few drinks last night.

When Suo Yang came out of the cubicle, Shen Huiming was already waiting for him outside with mineral water.

“Rinse your mouth.” Shen Huiming looked at him with some concern, “Should I not have taken you to eat?”

Suo Yang forced a smile out and unscrewed the bottle cap to rinse his mouth.

When it was cleaned up, Suo Yang let out a long breath of relief.

After throwing up, he was eased a lot, and his whole body was not as heavy-headed as before.

Suo Yang rubbed his stomach, feeling uncomfortable in his stomach, and said casually, “I want to eat frozen yoghurt.”

Shen Huiming was startled for a while, then smiled, “Let’s eat it, there should be some in this mall.”

He didn’t expect that Suo Yang also had a childish side, wanting to eat something and when he said it, he was a bit aggrieved, which was oddly cute.

Suo Yang’s original intention was not to pretend to be aggrieved to seduce Shen Huiming, he just thought it would be more comfortable to eat something cold.

Suo Yang didn’t like sweets, and pure ice cream was too sweet for him, so frozen yoghurt was just right. It was just the right amount of sweet and sour, with a bit of fruit thrown in to be eaten.

The two walked out of the bathroom, and Shen Huiming asked him, “Do you feel better?”

Suo Yang nodded, “I feel much better after vomiting.”

Shen Huiming could see that Suo Yang was a little embarrassed, and deliberately said his embarrassing story to make the other party happy, “Last month I had some talk about a business deal, you know it, how can I not go to drink when I talk about business now? From the restaurant to the bar, the old Russia big brother, their drinking capacity is really not blown out of proportion.”

Suo Yang turned his head to look at him with a smile, “Got you drunk?”

“I got so drunk that I threw up seven times a night.” Shen Huiming shook his head, “After that, I had to lie in bed for two days before I recovered.”

Suo Yang laughed, “Business talk is not easy.”

“Yeah, some people look as if they are shiny and bright, but in fact, they secretly got stomach perforation so fast when they drink.” Shen Huiming laughed, “I’m not talking about you, I’m talking about myself.”

Suo Yang also looked at him and smiled, and then replied, “The stomach perforation is very serious, so you still need to pay more attention to it in general.”

Suo Yang turned forward when he spoke, Shen Huiming turned his head to look at him, and could only see the high bridge of his nose and the slightly quivering eyelashes.

The two walked slowly and leisurely in the mall. The mall was rarely crowded on a weekday afternoon, even the shop assistants of each store were lazy.

The two of them walked around and found a shop selling frozen yoghurt.

Shen Huiming said, “What’s the difference between this and yoghurt?”

Suo Yang was a little surprised, “You’ve never eaten it?”

“Would it make me look stupid if I said I hardly ever come to the mall, and have never seen or eaten anything?”

Suo Yang laughed out loud, then ordered two servings and let Shen Huiming choose the fruit by himself.

“It’s on me,” said Suo Yang, “to show you the world.”

The two big men each took a frozen yoghurt and sat down on a small chair in the shop.

Suo Yang said, “The first time I had frozen yoghurt was when Zhou Mo bought it, and I had a hangover the night before. We went out looking for something to eat the next day, and he bought this for me.”

Shen Huiming took a small plastic spoon and scooped the white piece into his mouth. It was cold and sweet and sour, “Well, it tastes good.”

Suo Yang looked at him and smiled, “You don’t have to force yourself if you don’t like it.”

“Then you really misunderstood me,” Shen Huiming said. “People like us, in order to maintain dignity, even if we eat the best food, we have to act calm and reserved in order to maintain our decency, after all, we are a boss, we can’t act so ignorant.”

Suo Yang was so amused by his words that he burst out laughing.

Shen Huiming was quite amusing, Suo Yang thought, more amusing than I thought.

Suo Yang lowered his head and laughed softly as Shen Huiming poked a piece of fruit with his fork and brought it to his mouth.

He took a bite of the mango, which was also slightly cool and delicious, with a touch of sweetness, a bit like the feeling Suo Yang gave him at the moment.

Maybe it was because the two had become familiar with each other after a few meetings, or maybe it was because he had just seen Suo Yang broken down, so the person in front of him seemed to have finally taken off his armour temporarily, no longer hiding his fatigue.

Suo Yang’s face was pale and he sat there quietly eating frozen yoghurt. Shen Huiming looked at him and wanted to say: Why don’t you lean on me?

“What’s the matter?” Suo Yang found him staring at him, no longer pretending not to know, but turned to ask.

“I was thinking, what kind of people would you be attracted to,” Shen Huiming said. “What kind of person would make your heart flutter?”

Chapter 14

After being attracted to a person, everyone has the potential to become a detective.

One would try to explore the common interests between both of them, and would intentionally decipher what the other person said after a deep thought.

All of this became a clue to approach the other party, an ambiguous hint hidden under the lingering smoke that the other person gives himself.

Shen Huiming smiled, “Coincidentally, we both met for the first time at 30,000 feet too.”

Suo Yang thanked the waiter who brought the coffee, and gently fiddled with the ice cubes inside the glass with a plastic straw.

“As the hand of God produced clouds with one turn of the hand and rain with another, so does literary creation that comes from life.” Suo Yang looked up at him and smiled, “In other words, the author couldn’t have predicted the meeting of the people more than 20 years ago.”

“Well? How does the book end?”

“Want me to spoil it?” Suo Yang took a sip of coffee, pressing the tip of his tongue against the ice.

“Because I think, I probably don’t have the patience to finish reading.” No patience, and not much time.

Shen Huiming didn’t usually read this kind of book. Today, he just had nothing to do while waiting for Suo Yang, so he picked this book out of the coffee shop’s bookshelf.

He felt that the copy that he took with him happened to be the one Suo Yang had read, which was also a hint of fate.

The two of them were just made for each other.

“Broke up.” As Suo Yang put the ice cube in his mouth, the coolness relieved his headache and nausea, “The male protagonist finds another new love at the end, and starts a new round of research on the subject of love.”

Shen Huiming smiled wryly and shook his head, “I shouldn’t have asked.”

“Whether you ask or not, the ending is already written.”

“But if I hadn’t asked, they would have ended up differently in my world.” Shen Huiming said, “In fact, nothing in the world is really set in stone, and a well-written and established ending may not, in fact, be unchanged.”

He picked up the small box on the table and opened it slowly.

Suo Yang fiddled with the ice cubes in the glass and said with a smile, “Is this self-deception?”

“Sometimes there’s nothing wrong with deceiving yourself,” Shen Huiming said as he examined his cufflinks that had been sent back to him. “It’s like I know you’re bound to reject me and have already done so, but I still think it’s hard to say what’s going to happen later. What do you think?”

Shen Huiming put the cufflinks back on, “We all know that fate is very metaphysical, and everyone is a scientific supremacist, yet in this matter, we firmly believe in fate.”

He lowered his head and fiddled with his cufflinks with one hand, “Fate has made us meet by chance several times, and I think I should fight for it even if it’s just to be an ordinary friend.”

He raised his head and looked at Suo Yang, “What do you think?”

Suo Yang’s eyes kept falling on Shen Huiming’s wrist, who was struggling with cufflinks.

He put down the cup and stretched out his hand, “I’ll help you with it.”

Shen Huiming smiled and handed the half-finished cufflinks to Suo Yang, then extended his hand.

Helping someone with cufflinks was like helping someone with a tie, which was more or less intimate and ambiguous. This was the first time for Suo Yang to do such a thing, and it was also the first time for Shen Huiming to be “taken care of” by someone like this.

Both of them were silent, Shen Huiming looked at Suo Yang’s slightly frowning brows, unable to guess what the man was thinking.

When the cufflinks were fastened, Suo Yang subconsciously breathed a sigh of relief.

“How was it? Did you have a good rest last night?” Shen Huiming began to look for a topic of conversation.

Suo Yang smiled bitterly, “I have a headache, it’s been a long time since I drank like this.”

Shen Huiming actually didn’t know how much Suo Yang had drunk and what exactly he had drunk. In the time it took him to go out for a cigarette with Jiang Tongyan, Suo Yang’s face and eyes were already red when he came back.

“You don’t usually drink much?” Shen Huiming remembered that when they met in New York, Suo Yang had just come out of a bar.

Probably everyone had heard the rumours—that the flight attendant circle had a chaotic life.

Of course, there are similar rumours—the chaotic life of foreign executives, the chaotic life of the gay community, the chaotic life of surgeons, and so on.

The list went on and on.

Shen Huiming has always hated grouping and labelling. There were good people in every group and black sheep in every group, and generalising from one point to another only makes people look more narrow-minded.

But it was undeniable that he was curious about Suo Yang’s life.

“Not so much in these past two years.” Suo Yang felt uncomfortable in his stomach and put another ice cube in his mouth.

“It’s good, alcohol is something that is good to spice up your life once in a while, but too much of it is really bad for your health.” Shen Huiming leaned on the back of the sofa and sighed, “Sometimes I suspect that the alcohol content in my body has exceeded my blood level content.”

Of course, he was joking, and both of them knew that.

But Shen Huiming’s “deliberate show of misery” still caught Suo Yang’s attention, who hooked his tongue around the ice cube, swirled it around and then chewed it hard.

“It’s inevitable for businessman,” Suo Yang said, “but it’s better to take care of yourself if possible. Your health is important.”

Shen Huiming smiled, “Can I take that as a concern?”

Suo Yang also smiled, “It’s supposed to be a concern.”

He took a sip of coffee and swallowed the shattered ice.

“It’s not pleasant to be drunk.” Suo Yang rubbed his temples, “I still feel nauseated.”

Shen Huiming stared at him, watching his neatly manicured and clean nails turn pale from pressing too hard on his forehead.

“Have you eaten?” Shen Huiming asked.

Suo Yang shook his head, “My stomach doesn’t feel good.”

“Do you remember what you said to me on the plane before?” Shen Huiming tapped Suo Yang’s coffee cup with his fingers, “The downside of drinking coffee on an empty stomach, remember?”

Suo Yang smiled, “I feel like I’ve been caught doing something bad.”

“Aren’t you?” Shen Huiming stood up and said to him, “Let’s go. let’s have something to eat. there should be a congee shop nearby, simply eat a little or your body won’t be able to take it.”

Suo Yang sat there and tilted his head to look at him.

Shen Huiming didn’t hide his gaze, and said to him very calmly, “This is me being concerned about you.”

Suo Yang wanted to refuse but then heard Shen Huiming say, “You helped me twice, the ticket holder and cufflinks. It’s not too much for me to treat you to a bowl of congee as a thank you.”

Shen Huiming asked him with a smile, “You wouldn’t deliberately make me owe you a favour, would you?”

Suo Yang smiled helplessly and stood up with his hands on the table.

He finally realized that it was very difficult for him to win against Shen Huiming. The other party was too shrewd and knew how to bridge the gap for him.

As the two walked out, Shen Huiming said, “It looks like you haven’t taken care of yourself very well either, you’re really looking a bit pale now.”

Suo Yang walked beside him without speaking.

“I originally wanted to take the opportunity to invite you to watch a movie, but seeing you like this, I couldn’t bear to ask.”

Suo Yang smiled in his heart: But you still said it.

“Maybe next time.” Suo Yang said lightly, “If there’s a chance later.”

The author has something to say:

Thank you to the little angel who voted or irrigated nutrient solution for me during 2020-04-19 07:10:49~2020-04-20 06:23:48~

Thank you very much for your support, I will continue to work hard!

Notes:

The part where Suo Yang said, “As the hand of God produced clouds with one turn of the hand and rain with another, so does literary creation that comes from life”
In my interpretation, it refers to the inconsistency of God and literary creation, since the sentence of to produced clouds with one turn of the hand and rain with another is actually an idiom for being tricky and inconsistent. So the literary creation that is derived from life should be similar; tricky and inconsistent.

Chapter 2

Ji Qin liked to fish out what I knew regarding that Ze’an very much. He resisted looking at me directly, yet he wanted to know everything about that one person.

“When will he come back?” Ji Qin often asked me this question.

       I said honestly, “I don’t think he’s coming back.”

The man had only lived in my body for a short time, and I hadn’t expected him to be so popular. It was as if now I was a dove who had taken over the magpie’s nest.

Ji Qin fell into silence again, I leaned over and changed the subject with a smile, “There’s a new movie that’s been released recently. I’ve seen good reviews on the internet, do you want to go see it?”

He took a big step back as if he had encountered a beast and didn’t dare to look at me as he hurried back to his room.

I grimaced; he was such a buzzkill.

That Ze’an was inside me for only two years. It was a pity that I didn’t know have an inkling about what had happened so far. Otherwise, I would like to imitate that person a little, so that the difference between him and me would not be so big, and people would not find the difference in a short time.

I also changed jobs. The fake Ze’an had worked as a studio teacher for the past two years, and I didn’t know anything about drawing. After I quit, I applied for a job as a programmer. Fortunately, my diploma was my own, so it was not too difficult to find a job.

Fake Ze’an’s seemed to have a cold personality. He hadn’t posted much about his life in the Moments in recent years, and there were few photos in the album. I casually flipped through the address book and was stunned. He even sent only send messages in a few words to others, and if he could solve it in one word, you would never send more than that.

He was not afraid to offend people.

God, it was too different from my personality.

But he was so well-liked that I was often approached to get together. I refused several times for fear of blowing my cover until one day another person came to me and I agreed.

Finally, it was someone I knew.

       My college classmate Fu Shan.

I breathed a sigh of relief as I saw his invitation. In the past few months, I always felt like an evil spirit who had stolen someone else’s body. I didn’t even dare to socialise too much with people when I went to work and came home every day.

In fact, Fu Shan and I were actually quite close, and I remember seeing each other quite a lot in the past. She knew exactly what was going on inside me. I retraced the chat log several times and felt there should be no problem, so I braced up and answered the appointment.

In the end, Fu Shan’s appearance also changed. In my memory, she had that well-behaved girl look with flat bangs, black, long straight hair, and massive energy as a student. Now she looked much more mature, with delicate makeup on her face, a big perm, and expensive-looking clothes. It seemed that she had become a mature white-collar woman.

I waved away the unfamiliarity in my heart and called her with a smile as I did before, “Ah1A Chinese prefix used with a shortened form of peoples’ given names to express familiarity, roughly equivalent to Mister or Miss. Shan!”

Fu Shan, in turn, was particularly not used to it and looked up at me in amazement.

I’d had too many of those looks recently, and I smiled awkwardly, “What are you looking at me for?”

Fu Shan frowned and after a moment of silence said, “You haven’t called me that for a long time.”

I didn’t know what to say and hurriedly asked the waiter to order. I remembered that Fu Shan also liked spicy food. We used to order very spicy hot pot together and said that we would live in Chongqing, Sichuan in the future. But because of the fake Ze’an, I didn’t dare to order anything too spicy. After the waiter asked me how spicy I said I wanted, I had just said medium spicy when Fu Shan stopped me.

“Forget it. It’s not like you can eat spicy right now.” Her tone was indifferent, “Let’s have a mandarin duck pot.”

I was dumbfounded as I watched the waiter nod and leave. Fu Shan sighed again and said to me, “Ze’an, I’m calling you out this time to talk to you about something.”

I saw that she didn’t look happy, so I said carefully, “What’s wrong.”

She paused again for a moment and said, “I thought about what you said last time and thought you were right, so I’m not going to leave.”

I was filled with confusion and a little nervous. What the fake Ze’an had said to her?

“Where were you going?” I asked anxiously, Fu Shan was the person I cared about the most apart from my parents and Ji Qin, but I actually knew nothing about her now.

Fu Shan gave me a strange look, “What’s wrong with you? My company wanted to send me to work in Singapore before, and I can’t bear to part with Song ge. Didn’t you persuade me to stay? I thought about it carefully and think you are right.”

I was stuck. Who was Song ge again?

I’ve been away for those two years without knowing anything about everything, so depressing.

“But I still have to think about what to say to the company…….” Fu Shan sighed and said enviously, “Ze’an, I really envy you, you have grown up a lot, and you are not as reckless as before. If you were me, I’m sure it wouldn’t bother me as much.”

I snorted and said embarrassedly, “Haha, I’m that good, huh?”

Fu Shan said, “Yeah, every time I talk to you, I feel like I learn a lot. Looking back now, we were really too stupid and innocent before…”

I watched her sigh in silence, not knowing what to say. Coincidentally, the hotpot was being served, and I pretended to say that I wanted to eat so that I wouldn’t have time to talk about something that wasn’t there.

I stared at the mandarin duck pot, thought for a while, and put the ingredients into the clear soup pot.

       …Ah, I feel so sad.
