Chapter 20

Zhou Yan looked at Ning Junyan in a panic, as if he didn’t know how to react.

It was Chen Yuncheng who said, “It has been sixteen years.”

That year, when the foster father and foster mother were arrested and imprisoned, Ning Junyan left with his parents, Zhou Yan was sent back to his hometown, and Chen Yuncheng entered a welfare institution. After they separated, they did not get together again until this year.

It should have been a touching scene, but Zhou Yan couldn’t care about it at this time, he still had his own worries.

Ning Junyan took out his right hand from his jacket pocket and stretched it out in front of Zhou Yan.

Zhou Yan took his hand and forced a smile.

When he let go, Ning Junyan asked Chen Yuncheng, “Did I interrupt your conversation?”

Chen Yuncheng shook his head, “No, how did you know we were here?”

Ning Junyan raised his head slightly, “I saw it from the office window.”

When Chen Yuncheng heard the words, he looked up and saw that directly opposite the garden was the inpatient building where Ning Junyan’s department was located, with a glass window facing his office. At that time, Chen Yuncheng glanced down from his office window and vaguely remembered that there was a garden below.

“Still not off duty yet? Or are you on duty today?” Chen Yuncheng asked.

Ning Junyan said, “There is an operation in the afternoon, and I just finished it.”

When Chen Yuncheng heard him say this, he suddenly noticed that his hair was still slightly damp, probably it was not long after he took a shower.

“Have you eaten yet?” Chen Yuncheng asked him.

       Ning Junyan shook his head.

Zhou Yan standing beside was somewhat a little irritable, he gently pulled Chen Yuncheng’s sleeve, and whispered, “Cheng ge, I have something to tell you.”

After he said this, Ning Junyan looked at him.

Ning Junyan’s eyes seemed calm and did not contain any emotion, but Zhou Yan’s heart trembled for no reason, and for some reason he suddenly recalled the first time he met Ning Junyan when he was a child.

Zhou Yan was different from Chen Yuncheng and Ning Junyan. He ran away from home by himself when he was only seven years old that year. He was alone on the street and met the foster father. The foster father bought food for him and said he would find him a place to live. He could work in exchange for food and asked him if he wanted to follow. He agreed.

When Zhou Yan followed the foster father back to the yard, he saw Chen Yuncheng and Ning Junyan. At that time, Chen Yuncheng was tolerable, but Ning Junyan was already quite tall, almost taller than the foster father. Chen Yuncheng was very friendly to him, but Ning Junyan left him with a deep impression.

He still remembered that when they went into the yard, the foster father called out Chen Yuncheng, saying that he had brought a child back.

Chen Yuncheng squatted on the steps, greeted him with a smile, and said, “My name is Chen Yuncheng, what’s yours?”

Zhou Yan, who had been wandering alone for a month or two, was not afraid of someone new and said to Chen Yuncheng, “I’m Zhou Yan.”

Chen Yuncheng smiled and said, “Hello.”

The foster father went into the kitchen at that time, and only Chen Yuncheng and Zhou Yan were left in the yard. Chen Yuncheng suddenly waved to Zhou Yan and motioned him to go over.

       Zhou Yan approached nervously.

Chen Yuncheng approached his ear and asked him in a low voice, “How did you come here? Where are your family members?”

Zhou Yan lied, “I have no family.”

“Oh,” Chen Yuncheng’s eyes instantly became gentler when he looked at him, probably feeling a little sympathetic to him.

At this time, Ning Junyan walked out of the room, stopped beside Chen Yuncheng, and looked down at Zhou Yan.

Ning Junyan, who was already tall, was standing at the bottom of the steps. He looked at Zhou Yan with a cold gaze and did not open his mouth to speak.

At that moment, Zhou Yan felt a strong sense of oppression, and he subconsciously stepped back several steps, farther away from Chen Yuncheng and Ning Junyan.

Ning Junyan crouched down beside Chen Yuncheng.

Chen Yuncheng turned his head to look at him, took out candy from his pocket, and asked him, “Want some candy?”

Ning Junyan didn’t answer, but just reached out and took the candy, his nimble fingers quickly peeled off the candy wrapper, and then fed the candy into Chen Yuncheng’s mouth.

The candy was fed to Chen Yuncheng suddenly, and subconsciously opened her mouth to take it in before he whispered, “It’s for you.”

       Ning Junyan just said “um”.

Zhou Yan looked at them, and at the same time heard his foster father calling him loudly in the kitchen, so he responded and walked towards the kitchen. Before he entered the kitchen, he couldn’t help but look back and saw Chen Yuncheng turning his head to Ning Junyan’s ear. After saying something in a low voice, Ning Junyan didn’t move. After a while, Chen Yuncheng smiled and reached out to pat Ning Junyan’s face, then turned back and continued to look at the middle of the yard.

The first time he saw Ning Junyan, Zhou Yan was not afraid of him at that time. What made him feel that Ning Junyan was a scary person was the latter half a year together. Ning Junyan almost killed his godfather and was stopped by Chen Yuncheng and the foster mother.

Zhou Yan was in the corner at that time and did not dare to move a muscle. It almost became difficult to breathe, so this fear of Ning Junyan has spread to the present.

He originally wanted to chat with Chen Yuncheng in private for a while, but at this time he couldn’t say anything, and could only look at Ning Junyan nervously.

Ning Junyan said to Chen Yuncheng, “Would you like to accompany me to dinner?”

Chen Yuncheng didn’t answer him immediately but glanced at Zhou Yan.

Zhou Yan didn’t dare to speak and anxiously waited for Chen Yuncheng’s answer.

In the end, Chen Yuncheng nodded to Ning Junyan and said, “Sure.”

Zhou Yan couldn’t help calling out again, “Cheng ge.”

Chen Yuncheng said to Zhou Yan, “Let’s go together, you haven’t seen each other for so long either, we can talk.”

Zhou Yan was not in the mood to eat, and he didn’t really want to stay with Ning Jun for an extended period of time. He said, “I have to go see my son. Jiajia should go back to take a bath and rest.”

Chen Yuncheng knew it was no good to force it and said to Zhou Yan, “Then go, I’ll call you later.”

       Zhou Yan responded quickly, “Okay.”

Ning Junyan had a very simple dinner. He did not drive, but left the hospital on foot with Chen Yuncheng, went to a nearby fast-food restaurant, and ordered a set meal.

“Don’t you want to eat something?” Ning Junyan asked Chen Yuncheng.

Chen Yuncheng shook his head and sat opposite him, “I’ll watch you eat.”

The fast-food restaurant was brightly lit, and since it was already after dinner time, there were only seven or eight tables of guests, all of whom were far away from each other, so the surroundings around the two of them seemed quiet.

Ning Junyan ate in a very refined manner. He picked up the cola delivered with the set meal, and then unwrapped the plastic packaging of the spoon, when he lowered his head to scoop the rice, he raised his head and asked Chen Yuncheng, “Are you here to accompany me to dinner?”

Chen Yuncheng smiled and said, “Yeah.” But then he said, “You eat first, and I’ll tell you something after eating.”

Ning Junyan said, “You can just say it.”

Chen Yuncheng said, “I’ll wait for you to finish eating.”

The spoon in Ning Junyan’s hand didn’t move, he just said, “I told you, you can come to me with anything.”

Chen Yuncheng hesitated for a moment, and he said, “Can you help Zhou Yan?”

Ning Junyan didn’t speak, and just motioned Chen Yuncheng to continue with his eyes.

Chen Yuncheng said, “His son is sick and is now hospitalised in your hospital, he still has to wait for the right time to have an operation, which will cost a large sum of money.”

When Ning Junyan heard this, he lowered his head and started to eat the food on his plate. While eating, he asked in a flat tone, “How much is a large sum of money?”

Chen Yuncheng said, “A hundred thousand or so, I don’t know how much money he has now.”

Ning Junyan ate and didn’t speak, Chen Yuncheng looked at him quietly and didn’t want to disturb him, until he stopped to drink water, and when he raised his head again, he said to Chen Yuncheng, “Did you ask me for help or did he ask me for help?”

Chen Yuncheng didn’t answer, but asked, “Do you mean you won’t help if he was the one asking for your help?”

Ning Junyan looked at him and said, “The price is different.”

Chen Yuncheng smiled, “I’m the one who asked for your help, so tell me what the price is, can I afford to pay it?”

Ning Junyan didn’t answer for a long time and looked straight at Chen Yuncheng until Chen Yuncheng was a little uncomfortable with his gaze, and then he said, “You can afford it.”

The author has something to say:

Chen Yuncheng was not a big shot in the past. In fact, he and his friends are people at the bottom of the social ladder. They have no money and have never read any books. They always wanted to make a lot of money but had no channels, and most of the time the little money they made was quickly spent ……

Chapter 3

After I split up with Fu Shan, I felt very tired. I felt that a long time ago, my life was very simple, and I was happy every day. In Fu Shan’s words, as happy as a fool every day.

But after I came back, I was very unhappy.

I liked Ji Qin very much, but Ji Qin had the words unwelcome written all over his face. I met my best friend, Fu Shan, and it turned out that she also preferred that fake Ze’an.

What am I left with? Oh, my parents…

I perked up a little. I chatted with my parents on WeChat in the past few days, and I didn’t expose any flaws. They were the ones who gave birth to me and raised me, so they wouldn’t dislike me too, right?

I immediately bought a bunch of flowers, fruits and vegetables and rushed to my old home. My mother opened the door, I hadn’t seen her for two years, and the moment I saw her, tears fell from my eyes, and I shouted, “Mom!”

Two years was not a long time, but it was not a short time either. I felt that my mother had more grey hair on her head, and I don’t know if it was just my illusion.

My mother sighed and complained, “Why are you so emotional all of a sudden? And you’re carrying so many things. What are you crying for? Come on in.”

I wiped away my tears and followed her into the house, “Where’s dad?”

My mother carried my things to the living room and said, “He’ll be back later. What do you want to eat tonight, why are you here all of a sudden, I’ll buy it for you.”

“Ah, I remember you told me last time that liked my crucian carp soup best. Should I get the fish?”

I was stunned when I heard the words. My mother’s crucian carp soup was indeed very good, but my favourite was her braised pork ribs. I could finish two bowls of rice with the soup.

Unable to erase the presence of the fake Ze’an, I had to laugh, “What about braised pork ribs? I want to eat it too.”

My mother was about to leave the house, and when she heard my words, she turned back and said, “You want ribs again? Didn’t you say you didn’t think it was refreshing enough? I haven’t made them in ages…”

I gave her a perfunctory mumble and she didn’t bother to say too much, told me to wait and merrily went off to buy groceries.

I was annoyed by the presence of the fake Ze’an, but I couldn’t help it.

Dad returned in the evening and wasn’t surprised to see me. He smiled and said, “You’ve come to see us again, I was still nagging at you for not coming a while ago.”

My hand that was holding the ribs stopped. Does the while ago refer to the time when I first returned?

In fact, it hadn’t been that long, but I was a bit scared to meet my parents because of everything I’d been through so far. I thought of first relying on texting and exchanging messages to gain a little sense of security before going to them, so the changes wouldn’t be so noticeable.

My mother said, “Yeah, you visit us every now and then. Don’t you still get annoyed with us in college? It seems like you’ve really grown up. Now you and I could chatter and listen to each other patiently. How nice it would have been.”

I stared at the rice in the bowl and said softly, “Is that so…”

As if thinking of something, Dad smiled and said, “How’s xiao Ji doing these days? Why didn’t he come along?”

       Huh? Which xiao Ji?

       …Ji Qin?

My brain took a hit and for a moment and I didn’t get what they meant—did the fake Ze’an even come out1come out as gay for me……

“It’s not a fight, is it?” My mother looked at my expression. As if she had realized something, put down her chopsticks and started preaching, “I think xiao Ji likes you very much. Now that you have grown up, you should be considerate and understanding of each other when you live together, you know? It all comes down to this. Don’t do that silent treatment to the other person ah……”

The moon was high in the trees when I returned, my head was blank as I carried a box of chocolates for Ji Qin that my parents had forced on me.

The fake Ze’an, he did a really good job…

He was filial, mature, brave, stable and understanding. He was so good at everything, everyone loved him, and who else would want to look back at the plain, ordinary, silly me?

How was I supposed to continue my life as the original owner of this body?

Notes:
Tbh this story just made me feel uncomfortable in a way. Imagine someone got isekaid to your body, do their isekai protagonist thing and then left. Then you came back, and everything changed, and then they thought you are the fake one…

Chapter 15

Apart from at the company, Suo Yang rarely ate with others, and he was never one to call people his friends either. After Zhou Mo moved out, he mostly kept to himself.

Therefore, Suo Yang would still feel somewhat uncomfortable sitting face-to-face and eating congee with someone he didn’t know very well like this.

Fortunately, Shen Huiming acted very naturally and did not pay too much attention to Suo Yang.

He would take care of Suo Yang, but he would not be too deliberate. Suo Yang could do things like taking a spoon and a tissue by himself.

As the two of them ate, they chatted softly one after another, not going too deep into the conversation, but just commenting on the taste of congee and the way the dishes were prepared.

Suo Yang smiled, “I didn’t expect you to know how to cook congee.”

“I don’t only know how to make congee.” Shen Huiming said with a smile, “When I was studying in New York, I didn’t learn much from a proper course, but my cooking skills were quite good.”

Suo Yang thought about his cooking skills, smiled, and continued to eat his congee without saying anything.

Shen Huiming really wanted to show his skills to Suo Yang. Although he was not sure if the saying “to capture a man, you have to capture his stomach first” was true, but it was certainly true that if you liked someone, you wanted to show everything you were good at in front of them.

However, even though Shen Huiming had some free time and wanted to show off more, he couldn’t open his mouth to invite the other party to his home.

There would always be opportunities in the future.

Shen Huiming comforted himself with this.

After the two of them finished eating, Suo Yang still felt uncomfortable and walked out of the restaurant with a frown on his face.

When he saw Suo Yang like this, Shen Huiming couldn’t bear to force the other person to accompany him, so he asked him if he wanted to go back to rest first.

His approach made Suo Yang feel quite good. Shen Huiming knew the right balance and it was not that much of a burden to get along with him.

The two walked out, but Suo Yang suddenly felt like vomiting, and subconsciously grabbed Shen Huiming’s wrist.

Shen Huiming responded quickly and asked him if he wanted to vomit.

Suo Yang closed his eyes and nodded gently with an ugly expression on his face.

Shen Huiming directly pulled his wrist and led him towards the nearby shopping mall, and he found the restroom without a hitch.

Suo Yang went in and vomited secretly. He leaned against the wall of the cubicle and thought that it was really embarrassing. He thought he would feel better after coming out of the house to get some fresh air, but to his surprise, he threw up again.

So, at the end of the day, he shouldn’t have had those few drinks last night.

When Suo Yang came out of the cubicle, Shen Huiming was already waiting for him outside with mineral water.

“Rinse your mouth.” Shen Huiming looked at him with some concern, “Should I not have taken you to eat?”

Suo Yang forced a smile out and unscrewed the bottle cap to rinse his mouth.

When it was cleaned up, Suo Yang let out a long breath of relief.

After throwing up, he was eased a lot, and his whole body was not as heavy-headed as before.

Suo Yang rubbed his stomach, feeling uncomfortable in his stomach, and said casually, “I want to eat frozen yoghurt.”

Shen Huiming was startled for a while, then smiled, “Let’s eat it, there should be some in this mall.”

He didn’t expect that Suo Yang also had a childish side, wanting to eat something and when he said it, he was a bit aggrieved, which was oddly cute.

Suo Yang’s original intention was not to pretend to be aggrieved to seduce Shen Huiming, he just thought it would be more comfortable to eat something cold.

Suo Yang didn’t like sweets, and pure ice cream was too sweet for him, so frozen yoghurt was just right. It was just the right amount of sweet and sour, with a bit of fruit thrown in to be eaten.

The two walked out of the bathroom, and Shen Huiming asked him, “Do you feel better?”

Suo Yang nodded, “I feel much better after vomiting.”

Shen Huiming could see that Suo Yang was a little embarrassed, and deliberately said his embarrassing story to make the other party happy, “Last month I had some talk about a business deal, you know it, how can I not go to drink when I talk about business now? From the restaurant to the bar, the old Russia big brother, their drinking capacity is really not blown out of proportion.”

Suo Yang turned his head to look at him with a smile, “Got you drunk?”

“I got so drunk that I threw up seven times a night.” Shen Huiming shook his head, “After that, I had to lie in bed for two days before I recovered.”

Suo Yang laughed, “Business talk is not easy.”

“Yeah, some people look as if they are shiny and bright, but in fact, they secretly got stomach perforation so fast when they drink.” Shen Huiming laughed, “I’m not talking about you, I’m talking about myself.”

Suo Yang also looked at him and smiled, and then replied, “The stomach perforation is very serious, so you still need to pay more attention to it in general.”

Suo Yang turned forward when he spoke, Shen Huiming turned his head to look at him, and could only see the high bridge of his nose and the slightly quivering eyelashes.

The two walked slowly and leisurely in the mall. The mall was rarely crowded on a weekday afternoon, even the shop assistants of each store were lazy.

The two of them walked around and found a shop selling frozen yoghurt.

Shen Huiming said, “What’s the difference between this and yoghurt?”

Suo Yang was a little surprised, “You’ve never eaten it?”

“Would it make me look stupid if I said I hardly ever come to the mall, and have never seen or eaten anything?”

Suo Yang laughed out loud, then ordered two servings and let Shen Huiming choose the fruit by himself.

“It’s on me,” said Suo Yang, “to show you the world.”

The two big men each took a frozen yoghurt and sat down on a small chair in the shop.

Suo Yang said, “The first time I had frozen yoghurt was when Zhou Mo bought it, and I had a hangover the night before. We went out looking for something to eat the next day, and he bought this for me.”

Shen Huiming took a small plastic spoon and scooped the white piece into his mouth. It was cold and sweet and sour, “Well, it tastes good.”

Suo Yang looked at him and smiled, “You don’t have to force yourself if you don’t like it.”

“Then you really misunderstood me,” Shen Huiming said. “People like us, in order to maintain dignity, even if we eat the best food, we have to act calm and reserved in order to maintain our decency, after all, we are a boss, we can’t act so ignorant.”

Suo Yang was so amused by his words that he burst out laughing.

Shen Huiming was quite amusing, Suo Yang thought, more amusing than I thought.

Suo Yang lowered his head and laughed softly as Shen Huiming poked a piece of fruit with his fork and brought it to his mouth.

He took a bite of the mango, which was also slightly cool and delicious, with a touch of sweetness, a bit like the feeling Suo Yang gave him at the moment.

Maybe it was because the two had become familiar with each other after a few meetings, or maybe it was because he had just seen Suo Yang broken down, so the person in front of him seemed to have finally taken off his armour temporarily, no longer hiding his fatigue.

Suo Yang’s face was pale and he sat there quietly eating frozen yoghurt. Shen Huiming looked at him and wanted to say: Why don’t you lean on me?

“What’s the matter?” Suo Yang found him staring at him, no longer pretending not to know, but turned to ask.

“I was thinking, what kind of people would you be attracted to,” Shen Huiming said. “What kind of person would make your heart flutter?”

Chapter 14

After being attracted to a person, everyone has the potential to become a detective.

One would try to explore the common interests between both of them, and would intentionally decipher what the other person said after a deep thought.

All of this became a clue to approach the other party, an ambiguous hint hidden under the lingering smoke that the other person gives himself.

Shen Huiming smiled, “Coincidentally, we both met for the first time at 30,000 feet too.”

Suo Yang thanked the waiter who brought the coffee, and gently fiddled with the ice cubes inside the glass with a plastic straw.

“As the hand of God produced clouds with one turn of the hand and rain with another, so does literary creation that comes from life.” Suo Yang looked up at him and smiled, “In other words, the author couldn’t have predicted the meeting of the people more than 20 years ago.”

“Well? How does the book end?”

“Want me to spoil it?” Suo Yang took a sip of coffee, pressing the tip of his tongue against the ice.

“Because I think, I probably don’t have the patience to finish reading.” No patience, and not much time.

Shen Huiming didn’t usually read this kind of book. Today, he just had nothing to do while waiting for Suo Yang, so he picked this book out of the coffee shop’s bookshelf.

He felt that the copy that he took with him happened to be the one Suo Yang had read, which was also a hint of fate.

The two of them were just made for each other.

“Broke up.” As Suo Yang put the ice cube in his mouth, the coolness relieved his headache and nausea, “The male protagonist finds another new love at the end, and starts a new round of research on the subject of love.”

Shen Huiming smiled wryly and shook his head, “I shouldn’t have asked.”

“Whether you ask or not, the ending is already written.”

“But if I hadn’t asked, they would have ended up differently in my world.” Shen Huiming said, “In fact, nothing in the world is really set in stone, and a well-written and established ending may not, in fact, be unchanged.”

He picked up the small box on the table and opened it slowly.

Suo Yang fiddled with the ice cubes in the glass and said with a smile, “Is this self-deception?”

“Sometimes there’s nothing wrong with deceiving yourself,” Shen Huiming said as he examined his cufflinks that had been sent back to him. “It’s like I know you’re bound to reject me and have already done so, but I still think it’s hard to say what’s going to happen later. What do you think?”

Shen Huiming put the cufflinks back on, “We all know that fate is very metaphysical, and everyone is a scientific supremacist, yet in this matter, we firmly believe in fate.”

He lowered his head and fiddled with his cufflinks with one hand, “Fate has made us meet by chance several times, and I think I should fight for it even if it’s just to be an ordinary friend.”

He raised his head and looked at Suo Yang, “What do you think?”

Suo Yang’s eyes kept falling on Shen Huiming’s wrist, who was struggling with cufflinks.

He put down the cup and stretched out his hand, “I’ll help you with it.”

Shen Huiming smiled and handed the half-finished cufflinks to Suo Yang, then extended his hand.

Helping someone with cufflinks was like helping someone with a tie, which was more or less intimate and ambiguous. This was the first time for Suo Yang to do such a thing, and it was also the first time for Shen Huiming to be “taken care of” by someone like this.

Both of them were silent, Shen Huiming looked at Suo Yang’s slightly frowning brows, unable to guess what the man was thinking.

When the cufflinks were fastened, Suo Yang subconsciously breathed a sigh of relief.

“How was it? Did you have a good rest last night?” Shen Huiming began to look for a topic of conversation.

Suo Yang smiled bitterly, “I have a headache, it’s been a long time since I drank like this.”

Shen Huiming actually didn’t know how much Suo Yang had drunk and what exactly he had drunk. In the time it took him to go out for a cigarette with Jiang Tongyan, Suo Yang’s face and eyes were already red when he came back.

“You don’t usually drink much?” Shen Huiming remembered that when they met in New York, Suo Yang had just come out of a bar.

Probably everyone had heard the rumours—that the flight attendant circle had a chaotic life.

Of course, there are similar rumours—the chaotic life of foreign executives, the chaotic life of the gay community, the chaotic life of surgeons, and so on.

The list went on and on.

Shen Huiming has always hated grouping and labelling. There were good people in every group and black sheep in every group, and generalising from one point to another only makes people look more narrow-minded.

But it was undeniable that he was curious about Suo Yang’s life.

“Not so much in these past two years.” Suo Yang felt uncomfortable in his stomach and put another ice cube in his mouth.

“It’s good, alcohol is something that is good to spice up your life once in a while, but too much of it is really bad for your health.” Shen Huiming leaned on the back of the sofa and sighed, “Sometimes I suspect that the alcohol content in my body has exceeded my blood level content.”

Of course, he was joking, and both of them knew that.

But Shen Huiming’s “deliberate show of misery” still caught Suo Yang’s attention, who hooked his tongue around the ice cube, swirled it around and then chewed it hard.

“It’s inevitable for businessman,” Suo Yang said, “but it’s better to take care of yourself if possible. Your health is important.”

Shen Huiming smiled, “Can I take that as a concern?”

Suo Yang also smiled, “It’s supposed to be a concern.”

He took a sip of coffee and swallowed the shattered ice.

“It’s not pleasant to be drunk.” Suo Yang rubbed his temples, “I still feel nauseated.”

Shen Huiming stared at him, watching his neatly manicured and clean nails turn pale from pressing too hard on his forehead.

“Have you eaten?” Shen Huiming asked.

Suo Yang shook his head, “My stomach doesn’t feel good.”

“Do you remember what you said to me on the plane before?” Shen Huiming tapped Suo Yang’s coffee cup with his fingers, “The downside of drinking coffee on an empty stomach, remember?”

Suo Yang smiled, “I feel like I’ve been caught doing something bad.”

“Aren’t you?” Shen Huiming stood up and said to him, “Let’s go. let’s have something to eat. there should be a congee shop nearby, simply eat a little or your body won’t be able to take it.”

Suo Yang sat there and tilted his head to look at him.

Shen Huiming didn’t hide his gaze, and said to him very calmly, “This is me being concerned about you.”

Suo Yang wanted to refuse but then heard Shen Huiming say, “You helped me twice, the ticket holder and cufflinks. It’s not too much for me to treat you to a bowl of congee as a thank you.”

Shen Huiming asked him with a smile, “You wouldn’t deliberately make me owe you a favour, would you?”

Suo Yang smiled helplessly and stood up with his hands on the table.

He finally realized that it was very difficult for him to win against Shen Huiming. The other party was too shrewd and knew how to bridge the gap for him.

As the two walked out, Shen Huiming said, “It looks like you haven’t taken care of yourself very well either, you’re really looking a bit pale now.”

Suo Yang walked beside him without speaking.

“I originally wanted to take the opportunity to invite you to watch a movie, but seeing you like this, I couldn’t bear to ask.”

Suo Yang smiled in his heart: But you still said it.

“Maybe next time.” Suo Yang said lightly, “If there’s a chance later.”

Notes:

The part where Suo Yang said, “As the hand of God produced clouds with one turn of the hand and rain with another, so does literary creation that comes from life”
In my interpretation, it refers to the inconsistency of God and literary creation, since the sentence of to produced clouds with one turn of the hand and rain with another is actually an idiom for being tricky and inconsistent. So the literary creation that is derived from life should be similar; tricky and inconsistent.
