Chapter 51: Entrusting You
Su Muluo’s voice was very low, almost inaudible towards the end.
This was triggered by seeing his own clan members fall thousands of years ago and the thought that arose after his dragon was severely injured and lost its bones.
He wanted to be with his dragon.
He didn’t want to lose anyone else.
Long Ling was stunned for a moment after hearing this. His vision was excellent, and even in the night, he could see his own phoenix’s fair face slowly turning crimson. Suddenly, it seemed like he finally reacted, tightly grasping Su Muluo’s hand.
“Phoenix… Are you serious?”
His tone carried disbelief and hesitation, but more prominently, it was joy that he couldn’t conceal—not because of what was about to happen between them, but because his phoenix was willing to entrust himself to him… His phoenix liked him.
Su Muluo lowered his head, his face burning hot, saying nothing.
He felt too embarrassed to repeat such words a second time, but Long Ling didn’t need him to say it again. Afraid that his phoenix might regret it, he hugged Su Muluo tightly.
“This is what the phoenix said,” Long Ling said, “the phoenix cannot go back on its word.”
He couldn’t contain his joy, lightly biting the corner of Su Muluo’s mouth without waiting for him to say anything, sticking close to him affectionately.
Su Muluo looked at the dragon clinging to him, turned his head away, and after a moment, whispered softly, “No regrets.”
He wanted to be closer to his dragon, to feel its warmth and breath, to have it.
Anyway, he just wanted to be with his dragon.
Long Ling’s eyebrows curved upwards, gently lifting the phoenix’s face and leaving a tender and lingering kiss on his lips.
The kiss was still gentle, like drizzle and wind, but when the kiss ended and Su Muluo met Long Ling’s dark golden eyes, he couldn’t help but pause.
Long Ling’s eyes were too deep, like a fierce beast staring at its delicious prey—though on the surface they still held tenderness, underneath was an undisguised, surging possession and aggression like dark tides.
This predator-like gaze made Su Muluo belatedly sense danger. He instinctively moved back, trying to evade Long Ling’s gaze.
But before he could react, Long Ling pressed him firmly against his chest, leaving him nowhere to escape.
“Where is the phoenix going?” Long Ling lightly nibbled Su Muluo’s earlobe, whispering softly, “The phoenix promised me just now, it won’t back out.”
His tone remained gentle, like murmurs between lovers, yet his eyes were dark and profound, akin to a monarch surveying his domain, firm and controlling, not to be disobeyed.
“The phoenix… is mine now.” Su Muluo: “…”
Only now did he realize the trap he had dug for himself.
—
Three days later.
The phone at the bedside glowed faintly, receiving several messages. In the dim room, the light seemed unusually harsh.
The bathroom door opened, and Long Ling walked out holding his phoenix. They both carried the warmth from their bath. Long Ling was spirited, while Su Muluo was drowsy, leaning against Long Ling’s shoulder, sound asleep.
Back in bed, annoyed by the faint light from the phone, Su Muluo muttered discontentedly and buried himself deeper into his dragon’s embrace.
Long Ling gently stroked his back, freeing a hand to turn off the phone. He didn’t bother with the messages, preferring to lie in bed with his phoenix, pulling up the blanket to ensure his phoenix wouldn’t catch a chill.
The warmth of the blanket made Su Muluo instinctively snuggle closer, his body relaxed from the bath, emitting a pleasant fragrance that made Long Ling reluctant to let go.
He held his phoenix, occasionally running his fingers through the soft hair, or lightly brushing against the phoenix’s soft cheek. Every part of the phoenix seemed perfect to him, leaving him unwilling to part.
He was like a fierce dragon guarding his most precious treasure in a dark cave, his dark golden eyes fixed firmly on the treasure before him, unwilling to look away, and not allowing anyone else to covet it.
Once everything settled, he would take his phoenix back to the mountains.
Long Ling teased a strand of Su Muluo’s hair with his fingertips, inhaling his pleasant scent, already planning.
Finding a place where no one would find them, where no one would disturb them… spending every day like this with his phoenix.
He envisioned it beautifully, already planning what his phoenix liked and how to build a splendid house for him.
—
Hours later, Su Muluo stirred lightly in Long Ling’s arms, slowly waking up.
“Phoenix,” Long Ling immediately cuddled up affectionately, nuzzling against him, and smiled, “How did you sleep?”
Su Muluo: “…”
Still groggy from just waking up, he was soon awakened fully by Long Ling’s nuzzling, silently gazing at the dragon.
As a phoenix, his physical resilience was exceptional, so even after those three days, he didn’t feel any discomfort upon waking… but being in bed with Long Ling was another matter altogether.
Thinking about how he had been pinned down by his dragon… and seeing how refreshed Long Ling looked now, he angrily bit into his shoulder.
Long Ling immediately lowered his head and kissed Su Muluo’s forehead.
Su Muluo: “?”
Taking advantage of him again??
Too much!
He pulled the blanket away immediately, turned around, and faced away from Long Ling.
Long Ling: “Phoenix—”
Before he could finish, Su Muluo snatched the blanket from his side, not leaving him any.
Long Ling fell silent for a few seconds, then reached around the blanket from behind to embrace Su Muluo, trying to slip into his phoenix’s warm nest.
“Phoenix, I’m cold,” Long Ling said expressionlessly. “I might freeze to death.”
Su Muluo responded flatly, “Then freeze to death.”
This dragon had tough skin and thick scales. Even if he were thrown into the snow, he wouldn’t freeze.
Feeling unfairly treated, Long Ling complained, “Phoenix, you’re so mean. Weren’t you clinging to me just now?”
“It’s all because of you,” Su Muluo turned his head, angrily patting his head. “I don’t want to talk to you. Go away!”
Long Ling immediately grabbed his hand and took the opportunity to snuggle into the blanket, wrapping his arms around Su Muluo’s waist.
Caught off guard again, Su Muluo clicked his tongue and pulled the blanket over his head, curling up motionless in the nest.
Long Ling approached him slowly, lifting a corner of the blanket.
Su Muluo patted him.
“Pheonix, it’s my fault,” Long Ling admitted very obediently, “Pheonix, please don’t be angry. I promise I won’t do this again next time, okay?”
Su Muluo glanced at him.
Now he was acting all obedient, but when it came to the critical moment, he would show a different side.
He didn’t want to pay attention to this dragon.
“Pheonix, Pheonix—” Long Ling dragged out the end of his words, rubbing against his Pheonix, “It’s my first time, I lack experience, so there might be things that Pheonix isn’t satisfied with. I promise, next time I’ll stop when Pheonix says stop, I’ll do whatever Pheonix likes, please forgive me.”
He lightly nibbled on Su Muluo’s earlobe, showering him with sweet words. Su Muluo was slightly amused by his coaxing and glanced at him slowly.
Long Ling noticed his Pheonix’s softened attitude, immediately planted a kiss on his softly smiling face and said, “Pheonix looks the best! Pheonix, I like you the most!”
“…I don’t like you.” Su Muluo muttered, turning his head away.
He threw half of the blanket back to Long Ling’s side.
A slight smile tugged at the corner of Long Ling’s mouth. He knew that even if his Pheonix was upset with him, it wouldn’t last long.
Moreover, he had indeed gone too far this time, especially later on.
But it seemed Pheonix liked it too, especially towards the end…
With these thoughts in mind, Long Ling couldn’t help burying his face in Su Muluo’s shoulder, savoring the scent that he loved so much.
He loved Pheonix.
Loved him to death.
Su Muluo looked at this dragon and after a while, he patted his head and asked, “How long has it been?”
He didn’t really remember the time, but it felt like a long while, at least a day.
“Three days,” Long Ling replied.
Su Muluo fell silent.
Seeing that his Pheonix seemed to want to scold him again, Long Ling quickly hugged him tightly, bowed his head and apologized, “I’m sorry! I promise I won’t do this again next time!”
“…” Su Muluo said, “There won’t be a next time!”
Then he pulled the blanket over himself again.
Long Ling: “???”
This sentence from Pheonix was like a bolt from the blue for him. He immediately wanted to plead with Pheonix pitifully—also at this moment, the phone on the bedside suddenly rang, a call came in.
Su Muluo poked him from under the blanket, “You answer it!”
He just realized that the pajamas he was wearing were a bit loose, actually belonging to Long Ling, so he poked Long Ling again.
Long Ling obediently let him poke, picked up the phone, and found it was Liu He calling.
He immediately clicked his tongue and said, “It’s this woman again, why does she always disturb Pheonix?”
Su Muluo knew who he was talking about and said, “Liu He is our contact at the Bureau of Anomalous Affairs. It’s probably something related to the anomalies—and she hasn’t been bothering me all that much.”
Long Ling snorted and answered the call without saying anything.
“Mr. Su!” Liu He didn’t know who picked up the phone this time, and asked anxiously, “I’ve been messaging for days and you haven’t replied. Are you okay?”
“He’s fine,” Long Ling answered.
Liu He: “…”
Liu He: “??!”
There was a “bang” on the other end, followed by Liu He’s painful cry, and then a series of clattering noises… It was very lively.
Su Muluo poked his head out from under the blanket and asked, “What’s going on?”
Because Long Ling had put the call on speaker, Liu He also heard his words. She immediately said, “It’s nothing! It’s just, just fell down… a little.”
She struggled to get up from the ground, coughed, and resumed calmly, “It’s like this, Mr. Su. The monsters that were detained by the Bureau of Anomalous Affairs for attacking humans before… all died.”
Su Muluo was slightly surprised, and heard Liu He continue, “They didn’t commit suicide, but were remotely controlled to death by someone. So we suspect they were under the command of the person you mentioned before, forming a covert organization.”
“But strangely, in recent days, there have been no more incidents of monsters attacking people anywhere. We were planning to capture some troublemaking monsters again for interrogation, but we haven’t found an opportunity yet.”
While Liu He was speaking, Long Ling was casually playing with Su Muluo’s hair beside him. Su Muluo pressed his hand down and said to Liu He, “It’s probably because he was seriously injured by my dragon. He probably won’t come out again for a while.”
Upon hearing this, Liu He was instantly overjoyed and said, “So that’s it! Has Lord Long Ling already confronted that person?”
She had courageously asked Su Muluo for Long Ling’s name before, after all, always addressing a real dragon as “this” or “that” was a bit awkward.
Su Muluo noticed that Long Ling’s hand, which he had pressed down, was still scratching him lightly. He patted Long Ling several times as if nothing had happened and said to Liu He, “Yes, but we still need to be careful. He definitely won’t give up easily.”
“Okay, I will report to headquarters and we will remain vigilant,” Liu He said, “But Mr. Su, can I ask about the true identity of that person?”
Su Muluo remained silent for a moment and said, “He is a golden dragon.”
Liu He: “…”
As Su Muluo had anticipated, after he said this, Liu He on the other end fell into a dead silence.
After a while, she finally seemed to recover and spoke slowly, “Is, is that so…”
She paused slightly, then weakly added, “But thinking positively, at least he’s no match for Lord Long Ling…”
“That’s not certain,” Long Ling wrapped Su Muluo’s hand in his palm, playing with those slender fingers, and said lightly, “During our previous battle, he mentioned that his strength has not fully recovered. Although it’s unclear whether that’s true, it also means he has the potential to become stronger.”
Liu He: “…………”
There was another deathly silence on Liu He’s end.
After many peaceful years in the human world, mythical beings like real dragons had long been thought to have disappeared from their eyes. No one had ever expected that true dragons would reappear in the world, and not just one, but even causing great disturbances among humans… For a while, Liu He was completely dumbfounded, even feeling that she should have been a salted fish; why did she come to such an advanced plane?
Su Muluo waited for a moment and asked, “Are you still there?”
“…Yes, yes,” Liu He’s voice this time was smaller, more weakly and breathlessly, “Thank you, Mr. Su. I will report this information to headquarters… But there’s one more thing I want to tell you in advance.”
Su Muluo said, “Go ahead.”
Liu He paused for a moment and said, “After I reported your words earlier, headquarters took it very seriously. They’ve sent people down here to meet with you and Lord Long Ling, and to discuss how to handle this crisis.”
“I wonder if you and Lord Long Ling would be willing to meet with them? Can I arrange a meeting for them to see you?”
As soon as she finished speaking, Long Ling immediately gripped Su Muluo’s hand tightly, looking displeased.
Don’t go to the Bureau of Anomalous Affairs!
Su Muluo locked eyes with him for a few seconds and said, “Can I choose the location?”
“Certainly, both the location and time are up to you!” Liu He replied eagerly.
After thinking for a moment, Su Muluo said, “Then let’s meet tomorrow afternoon at three o’clock in my coffee shop.”
Liu He exclaimed happily, “Great! I’ll go inform them right away, and I’ll contact you again closer to the time!”
Su Muluo then hung up the phone and looked at his dragon, asking, “How strong do you think that person is?”
“He’s very strong, probably three or four points less than me,” Long Ling said, “I can’t kill him, but he definitely can’t defeat me.”
Su Muluo sighed, “He said his strength hasn’t fully recovered… But to be honest, neither of us has fully recovered our strength.”
Part of his power was still sealed, and Long Ling, having recently hatched, certainly wasn’t as strong as he was a thousand years ago.
The golden dragon had said his strength hadn’t fully recovered, but facing Long Ling, he was also not at full power.
Yet more than this person, Su Muluo was concerned about what his self from a thousand years ago had left him—the final seal and the secrets of the heavenly path.
Long Ling rested his chin on Su Muluo’s shoulder and said, “Pheonix, don’t worry. Whatever happens, I’m not afraid of him.”
Su Muluo cautioned, “Still, we need to be careful and not underestimate him.”
He didn’t know how the golden dragon had managed to injure his dragon thousands of years ago, but from their recent encounters, it was clear this person wasn’t straightforward.
Long Ling responded with an “oh,” looking at his Pheonix. After a while, he said, “I remembered something.”
Su Muluo asked, “What is it?”
Long Ling said earnestly, “Pheonix, haven’t you let me touch your feathers yet?”
Su Muluo replied, “…”
He immediately tried to shake off Long Ling’s hand, but Long Ling held on tightly.
“Pheonix promised to let me touch his feathers!” Long Ling insisted, “Pheonix, you promised! Now you’re going back on your word, I’m not happy!”
Then he buried his head back into Su Muluo’s body, rubbing against him. After a while, he transformed back into a black dragon and coiled around Su Muluo, staring at him without blinking.
Extremely stubborn.
Su Muluo sighed, “…”
He glanced at the dragon for a moment, then turned his head slightly and whispered, “Fine, you can touch them.”
The black dragon exclaimed, “Ah!”
Long Ling immediately transformed back, looking delighted as he eagerly eyed Pheonix.
He had been longing to touch Pheonix’s feathers for a long time!
They looked so good to touch!
Su Muluo felt like this dragon was just trying to take advantage of him, so he sighed and reverted to his original form.
He appeared very honest, like a proper gentleman—yet his hand was already raised, touching the beautiful feathers of the little phoenix.
As expected, the phoenix’s feathers were light and soft, like clouds and fine silk. Long Ling curled his lips slightly, feeling the phoenix in his palm warm, like a small flame, not burning but enough to warm his hand.
Little Phoenix: “Chirp.”
“Just a touch!”
Long Ling wasn’t satisfied at all: “Just once.”
Little Phoenix: “Chirp chirp chirp!”
We agreed on just one touch!
It angrily spread its wings wide.
Long Ling remained unfazed, quickly touching its wing.
Little Phoenix: “???”
The little phoenix flew up angrily and pecked Long Ling.
Long Ling let it peck him, since the phoenix’s pecks didn’t hurt. He gently gathered the little phoenix in his palms and said, “Can I touch a few more times?”
Little Phoenix: “Chirp!”
No, you can’t!
With a twist of its head, very principled.
Long Ling thought for a moment, smiling, “If the phoenix lets me touch its feathers, I’ll pinch its tail.”
Little Phoenix glanced at Long Ling suspiciously.
Long Ling: “I’m not lying, it’s true.”
The little phoenix thought silently for a moment, probably thinking the deal was quite favorable, and softly chirped.
No touching too much.
Otherwise, I’ll peck you.
Long Ling: “Got it, got it.”
He obediently agreed, then touched the little phoenix again.
The little phoenix stayed quietly in Long Ling’s hands, letting him touch its feathers four or five times.
It was also the first time it let someone touch its feathers, feeling strange but not uncomfortable… overall, very strange.
After a while, the little phoenix tilted its head and even felt a bit sleepy.
But soon, this drowsiness vanished, replaced by an even stranger feeling.
Little Phoenix: “…”
At the same time, Long Ling also noticed something odd about his phoenix.
Because as he touched it, for some reason, the little phoenix’s originally pristine white feathers… suddenly took on a light pink hue.
Long Ling: “?”
He looked at the little phoenix in surprise, and it met his gaze for a few seconds.
Silently, it buried its little head among its feathers, becoming a fluffy ball.
But the feathers turned even pinker.
Like a little pink dumpling.
Long Ling: “…”
