Chapter 31 – The Fog

Wan Jingsheng’s body was placed in a specially built funeral hall in the yard of their home.

Song Jun followed those people all the way into the village, feeling a little scared inexplicably. Not to mention that the village was a little too quiet now. The villagers who appeared in front of them all seemed to be extremely unwelcoming, and their faces were frighteningly cold.

Unable to help but slow down, Song Jun glanced at Feng Junyuan, who was walking not far from him, and saw that Feng Junyuan’s attention was also on the villagers as if he felt their unfriendliness.

Walking outside the yard where the body was placed, Song Jun stopped, and Feng Junyuan and Xi Anling, who was travelling with him, also stopped. Only Xia Hongshen, Long Xing and two Yuntong County police officers entered the yard.

Xia Hongshen was carrying a small toolbox and handed it to Long Xing.

Long Xing helped him open the toolbox. He took out a pair of plastic gloves and put them on. Under the vigilant gaze of the villagers, he walked to the funeral hall in the middle of the yard, squatted down and uncovered the white cloth covering the body.

The corpse had begun to decay, and an unspeakable stench spread around it.

Lü Hai and his colleagues both frowned and stood far away, unwilling to get closer.

Only Xia Hongshen still had a calm expression, observing the body lying on the ground.

This young man named Wan Jingsheng had swollen and bruised facial features, and it was difficult to see what he looked like during his lifetime. However, his clothes were still in good condition. Thinking this, Xia Hongshen turned back and glanced at the other villagers surrounding him.

When he reached out to take off the boy’s clothes, the boy’s father stood up and stopped him, “What are you going to do?”

Xia Hongshen said calmly, “Check if there are any wounds on his body surface.”

At this time, Long Xing stood up from Xia Hongshen and walked towards the boy’s parents. He said to the boy’s father, “Hello, I am a police officer from the Chongfeng City Public Security Bureau.”

Perhaps after hearing that he was a policeman from a big city, the boy’s father became obviously nervous.

Long Xing continued, “We are here to help you, not to harm you. Do you know what happened to this child?”

The boy’s father said, “I don’t know. By the time we found him, it was already too late.”

Long Xing asked again, “Time? Place? Surely you must know something, right? You didn’t look for him when he didn’t come home?”

The boy’s father suddenly became emotional, “What’s wrong with not knowing? Why are you asking these questions? Are you all in cahoots with the Public Security Bureau? Are you trying to protect the murderer?”

Long Xing said, “Don’t get emotional. I’m not asking you these questions to protect anyone but to understand the truth of the matter. You are the child’s parents. Don’t you want to know what happened to him? Don’t you want to know the real truth? Don’t you want to bring the real culprit to justice?”

Hearing Long Xing ask this question, the boy’s mother began to cry softly again, her whole body trembling.

While Long Xing was communicating with the boy’s family, Xia Hongshen continued to look at the boy’s body.

At this moment, Song Jun outside also felt very uneasy. He always felt like he was being watched by these people, which made him want to go in and stay with Xia Hongshen. However, the thought of the corpse inside made him feel frightened, so he resisted and chose not to go in.

After a while, Xia Hongshen stood up and took off his gloves.

Long Xing and the local police went over, stood next to Xia Hongshen, and asked, “How is it?”

Xia Hongshen said, “If you just look at the surface of the corpse, it seems more like death caused by mechanical asphyxiation..”

“Strangled to death?” Lü Hai asked.

Xia Hongshen shook his head, “Judging from the marks on the neck, it’s more like strangulation with a rope or hanging. If he was strangled to death, from the fact that there were no visible signs of struggle on his fingers and there were no other signs of struggle on his body, I’m actually more inclined to think that he was strangled to death with a rope while unconscious..”

       None of the policemen spoke.

Xia Hongshen glanced at them and said, “These are just my speculations. They may not be correct.”

One of the deputy captains of the Criminal Investigation Squadron said, “Teacher Xia, please continue.”

Xia Hongshen said, “If you have the opportunity, you can do some toxicological analysis, but it might be difficult to arrange the conditions now. There are traces of burial all over his body, but his clothes are neatly dressed as if someone had carefully put him in a pit and then buried him. Moreover, his clothes do not look like what people in this village usually wear. Instead, they look like they have been dressed up deliberately. If I were to guess, I would say the suspect likely knew him, and their relationship is not simple.”

       Several people looked surprised.

Xia Hongshen finally said, “In fact, the most critical point is that the fat from the deceased’s body was extracted.”

This time, even Long Xing was surprised, “What?”

Xia Hongshen moved his shoulders and said, “I don’t know why, but there are obvious incisions and suture marks left after fat extraction on his body.”

After packing up her things, Xia Hongshen washed his hands at the water pipe next to the yard and then said to Lü Hai and others, “It is recommended to send him to a place where conditions permit for an autopsy to determine the specific cause of death.”

Lü Hai and the others looked troubled.

After that, the communication with the villagers had nothing to do with Xia Hongshen. He came out of the yard and saw Song Jun sitting on a stone next to him. He walked over and touched his forehead with a mineral water bottle.

Song Jun looked up at him.

He handed the mineral water to Song Jun.

Song Jun asked curiously, “Where did the water come from?”

“The police officer gave it to me,” Xia Hongshen said, sitting down next to Song Jun.

“How’s it going?” Song Jun asked him.

Xia Hongshen shook his head and said, “There is something weird in the village.”

Song Jun was already feeling nervous. When Xia Hongshen said this, he became even more nervous and asked, “Why is it weird?”

Xia Hongshen still shook his head and had no intention of saying more.

Although the autopsy examination was over, they were still unable to leave, and the negotiations over there didn’t look like they would end for a while.

It was almost noon, and the villagers were obviously not so kind as to invite them to lunch. They wanted to go around the neighbourhood, but they were stared at as if they were thieves, and they immediately lost interest.

By the time the negotiations there ended, it was already past two o’clock in the afternoon. Several police officers still failed to persuade the villagers to let them take away the body. However, it was not without progress. Xia Hongshen provided them with a lead in their investigation. Next, they needed to go back and seek the opinion of the person in charge. If it didn’t work, they would report it to the city bureau and send someone to communicate with the villagers.

At least now, Xia Hongshen’s mission was completed.

The criminal investigation captain from the Yuntong County Bureau thanked Xia Hongshen and apologised for taking up his time. They would go down the mountain immediately and go to have lunch as soon as they returned to the county seat.

It didn’t matter to Xia Hongshen; he wouldn’t feel hungry.

But Song Jun was so hungry that he almost had no energy to speak.

The three cars headed back down the mountain. Long Xing drove in the middle, followed by two local police cars.

The road down the mountain was supposed to be familiar, and so their travelling speed should be faster. However, not far from the village entrance, fog started to fall in the mountains. Almost instantly, a thin layer of mist turned into a thick fog covering the mountains, making it impossible to see the road clearly.

The police car in front stopped on the side of the road with its lights flashing. Seeing this, Long Xing also slowed down and slowly pulled over and stopped the car.

The group of people looked at the environment in front of them and felt a little worried. It was getting late now. If it were any later, they would be afraid that it would get dark and they would not be able to go down the mountain. No one could tell when the fog on this mountain would clear. It was certainly unrealistic to stop and wait. They wanted to continue to drive forward, but since they couldn’t see the road conditions in front of them clearly, they were afraid that something would happen.

In fact, the best thing was to return to the village. However, judging from the attitude of the whole village towards them, they might not be welcomed if they go back.

After discussion, everyone decided to drive slowly down the mountain. Fortunately, there were almost no people or cars on this road. They hoped that by going around the top of the mountain, the fog would dissipate.

Even though he was sitting in the back seat, Song Jun couldn’t help but become nervous. He looked out the car window, and everywhere he looked was covered with white fog, and he couldn’t see anything clearly.

Several cars had their headlights turned on, so they could probably only see a very short area in front of them.

After driving for a few minutes, probably not even a few meters away, Song Jun suddenly heard a scream from Xi Anling, who was sitting in the front seat, and then Long Xing stepped on the emergency brake.

       “What?” Song Jun asked.

Xi Anling seemed to be still in shock. She said, “I thought I saw a car hit someone just now.”

After she finished speaking, she turned to look at Long Xing.

Long Xing stared ahead, opened the door and got out of the car.

Song Jun immediately opened the door and got out of the car. They walked around to the front of the car and saw that the front was empty and clean. Not to mention people, not even a bug was seen.

Xi Anling also came over at this time. Her eyes widened in surprise, and she said, “I obviously saw someone there.”

Long Xing’s expression did not look very good, and he asked Xi Anling, “Who did you see?”

Xi Anling recalled it and said, “It seemed to be a young man. I couldn’t see his face, and his back was to the front of the car.”

They were driving on a mountain road, and a car had just passed by in front of them. How could someone be standing in the middle of the road, completely unaware and with their back turned to the approaching vehicle?

Song Jun felt a little creeped out as he thought this.

Long Xing obviously saw that person just now as well. He walked forward for a while, looked left and right, and even stopped when he reached the edge of the cliff.

It was impossible to knock someone away. His speed was very slow. At that speed, he might not be able to knock someone down if he was standing in the middle of the road, let alone knock him away.

Xia Hongshen got out of the car, stood by the door, and asked them, “What?”

Song Jun said, “A person is missing.”

No one knew what Xia Hongshen was thinking. After being quiet for a while, he said, “It’s okay, just keep driving.”

At this time, a car behind them had also caught up, stopped next to them, and asked them what happened.

Long Xing said it was nothing and set off immediately.

They got in the car, and Long Xing drove forward.

Song Jun felt extremely uneasy. He looked at the thick fog outside and asked Xia Hongshen, “Did we hit a ghost just now?”

       Xia Hongshen said, “Maybe.”

No one else in the car spoke. Xi Anling grabbed her clothes nervously.

Suddenly, Long Xing’s cell phone rang. He did not dare to answer the phone while driving in this situation, so he could only stop the car and take out his cell phone.

“Hello?” Long Xing saw that the call was from Lü Hai.

Lü Hai was in the car behind them now.

“Long Xing!” Lü Hai’s voice was a little urgent, “I saw a person lying on your trunk!”

His voice was so loud that everyone in the car heard what he said.

Song Jun turned around subconsciously and saw a pale face on the rear window, looking at them. His eyes widened, and before he could scream, he heard a noise from behind, and Long Xing’s phone was immediately disconnected.

The car behind them had overturned.

Not knowing what they hit, the front of the car tilted up, collided with the cliff, and overturned. Fortunately, the speed wasn’t high, and the car slid to the side of the road, stopping without falling off the cliff.

Long Xing stopped the car, got out of the car and ran towards the back.

While Song Jun was still in shock, Xia Hongshen stretched out a hand to hold his head. He couldn’t resist and buried his head on Xia Hongshen’s chest.

The car in front also stopped, and several people ran over to check on the last car.

Although the car overturned, fortunately, the three people in the car seemed to be unharmed. Everyone worked together to open the deformed door and rescue the people inside.

The group of people stood on the mountain road, looking at the overturned police car, not knowing what to do.

Feng Junyuan came over to help a police officer whose arm was scratched by the car window glass, and Song Jun got out of the car and found that there was no one or anything else in the trunk.

Lü Hai was breathing heavily and was a little confused. It took him a long time to come back to his senses, and said, “It’s a bit eerie.”

The deputy captain of the Criminal Investigation Squadron was also an old policeman. He had more experience, and at this time, he said, “Let’s go first, leave the car alone, and then find someone to tow it. The three of you get in our car, squeeze together and go down the mountain.”

       Lü Hai nodded.

They had just stood up from the ground and were about to move forward when suddenly Xia Hongshen said, “We can’t go anymore.”

These words sounded so ominous that Lü Hai got a little agitated and said, “What did you say?”

Xia Hongshen said, “Our tire is broken.”

Hearing what he said, the group’s eyes fell on the car Long Xing drove, and sure enough, they found that the two front tires had blown out.

There was only one car left, and there was no way to get everyone down the mountain.

Song Jun was confused. He didn’t understand how they ended up in this situation, and he didn’t know what they should do next.

But Xia Hongshen was very calm. He said to the criminal investigation captain, “The six of you go down the mountain in a car first, and we will go back to the village.”

“How can that be?” Lü Hai said quickly, “What do you think of the attitude of the people in the village? You are not afraid of anything happening when you go back at this time?”

The squadron leader also said, “That’s not good. If someone needs to stay, it’s better for our people to stay. Let’s send you down the mountain first.”

Xia Hongshen said nothing and looked at Long Xing.

Long Xing thought for a while and said: “Captain Liu, it might be more convenient for us to stay behind. The villagers are just wary of us, but for your team, there’s too much hostility. On the other hand, if we go, we might still be somewhat welcomed. It could be tough if you guys were the ones to go back tonight. Besides, once you’re down the mountain, it’s easier to contact the rescue and take us down sooner.”

Lü Hai suggested, “What about calling for a car immediately now?”

The squadron leader hesitated, “The fog is too heavy. Even if the car sets off now, we will definitely not be able to go down the mountain tonight.”

Xia Hongshen said, “It’s better for us to go back before we go too far.”

The squadron leader was silent for a moment, knowing that he had to make a decision quickly. He said, “I’ll contact the village chief first to settle you. You go back to the village now. When you see the village chief, let us know. We’ll go back down the mountain.”

Long Xing nodded, “Alright, sorry for the trouble, Captain Liu.”

So, Song Jun and Feng Junyuan took out their luggage from the trunk and headed back towards the village.

Song Jun asked Xia Hongshen, “Why do you want to go back? I feel like there’s something very frightening.”

Xia Hongshen said, “Didn’t you notice that someone seems to want to keep us here? Since we can’t leave, there’s no point in wasting time.”

Chapter 32 – Morning Cloud (2)

Lin Dongliang went to the Imperial Palace with Skarter on the first day he came back from leave. He happened to see His Majesty the Emperor having just finished arguing with the Cabinet, with a look on his face that said anyone who stood in his way would die.

Moschery’s mood was very violent. He took off his mask, and the golden eyes of the dragon eye had turned into an oval shape.

“Your Majesty.” Lin Dongliang said, “Your marriage is not just a personal matter… After all, there are many aspects involved…”

Moschery said coldly, “So, are you going to force me to have a baby tomorrow?”

       Lin Dongliang: “…no”

Skarter actually had the heart to joke, “It would be a good idea if Qin Yun could give birth…”

“…” Lin Dongliang no longer wanted to pay attention to him.

It was rare for His Majesty the Emperor not to fly his own aircraft, and Skarter was a little surprised.

“Left it at home.” Moschery explained indifferently. The three of them boarded the Royal Guards’ spaceship in a huge formation. Within a few seconds, posts like ‘Royal Cool Trio’ and ‘Soon to be married man really pays attention to his image’ appeared on All Universe 818, which were full of photos and videos of the escorts team.

“Public opinion had been controlled by Chen Xiao.” Moschery threw the tablet to Lin Dongliang, “You handle the rest; you can post about the sweet moments, and I’ll provide the material.”

“Then you have to promise me, Your Majesty.” Lin Dongliang took a deep breath, “You can’t go picking fights yourself.”

Moschery’s expression stiffened, and he replied stiffly, “It’s not like I go and create an alt account.”

Lin Dongliang, enraged and forgetting formalities, exclaimed, “It’s not like you haven’t done it before! That post is still at the top today! It has almost reached a billion comments!” He quickly swiped on the tablet, pulling up a post titled ‘Hey, bitches! Watch this! I’ll conquer the world!!’

Moschery struggled to defend himself, “…I was only 12 years old at the time!”

“You’re not much better now.” Lin Dongliang held his forehead and suddenly froze in place when he looked at the backyard of the palace.

“What…?” Skarter followed and looked over. He paused for a long time and then asked uncertainly, “Your Majesty… what is Qin Yun doing on your aircraft?”

“What is doing doing?” His Majesty the Emperor said matter-of-factly, “Pasting rhinestones.”

       Lin Dongliang: “…”

Moschery: “I’ll find something for him to do. Besides, Zhongyan also likes it.”

“…” Skarter opened his mouth, “Your Majesty… you can’t spoil your wife and children like this.”

Qin Yun diligently transformed Moschery’s aircraft into royal extravagance. By the time he looked down, Lin Dongliang had been waiting below for quite a while.

The Secretary of State craned his neck and greeted him, “Would you like to take a break?”

“Yes.” Qin Yun slowly climbed down from the top of the aircraft, “I’ll ask Shen Zhuofan to come along? Would you like some tea?”

When Shen Zhuofan arrived, Ba Jin’s old housekeeper had just brewed a large pot of new tea. The three of them simply moved the table and chairs under the aircraft. The morning breeze was cool and dry, and the huge shadow of the wings fell on the grass, dividing the sunlight into contrasting colours of light and dark.

“Is General Skarter okay?” Qin Yun poured tea for Lin Dongliang.

Lin Dongliang smiled gently, “It’s good for him to have a holiday. Zong is fine, and Yuanbao will take care of it.”

Shen Zhuofan’s body had recovered a lot. Because he and Qin Yun were in a similar situation, Arthur and Moschery had developed a tacit understanding of each other. Recently, they had been meeting each other to go hunting to vent their mania, and the unlucky Skarter happened to walk right into the line of fire.

“Why should I come with you?!” Skarter’s weapon was a pair of twin guns, “I obviously have a guide, okay?!”

Arthur’s sword was slightly shorter than Moschery’s and was entirely silver-white. He was about to remove the head of a flame crocodile he had just killed, “You mean Lin Dongliang?” The Duke smiled frivolously, “He’s letting you sleep with him?”

       “…” Skarter: “Not yet…but that’s because I refused!”

Moschery snorted, “If you didn’t get laid, you didn’t get laid; don’t give yourself excuses for not being able to.”

       Skarter: “…”

“Make it sound like you got some.” Arthur glanced sideways at His Majesty the Emperor, “I was rolling in the sheets while you were still figuring out where you were.”

Moschery said coldly and contemptuously, “What’s the point? Didn’t you get dumped before?”

       Arthur: “…”

Lin Dongliang and Shen Zhuofan sneezed several times in a row, causing Qin Yun’s own nose to itch a little as he watched.

“Someone must be saying bad things about me…” Shen Zhuofan muttered in a low voice. He had a serious cat tongue. He held the hot tea for a long time without taking a sip and kept blowing it.

Qin Yun couldn’t bear it anymore and gave him a glass of ice water.

Lin Dongliang held the teacup and covered his hands. He had just listened to Shen Zhuofan’s method of releasing conscious hypnosis and sighed, “You are too messy. Don’t do that again in the future, do you understand?”

Shen Zhuofan: “At that time, I wasn’t thinking too much… it was like dry tinder catching fire with thunder from the heavens…” He looked suspiciously at Lin Dongliang, “You and Skarter, anything going on?”

Lin Dongliang coughed, “We are more… restrained.”

Qin Yun: “…” Is it really okay for you to show off your affection like this in front of someone who has never even been to Bonding Heat?!

Arthur’s sword was light and sharp. He and Moschery were good at close combat. One person could kill a flame crocodile alone. Even if it were not completely dead, Skarter would help with the finishing blow behind. The range of his two guns was very far, and he could change cartridges quickly with one hand. It was so fast that it was almost invisible to the naked eye.

“We need to kill something edible.” Skarter suggested, “We need to fill our stomachs later.”

Moschery didn’t react immediately, “I brought some nutritional supplements… Do you guys really plan to cook and eat?”

The other two people had complete ‘How could a guide want you?’ expressions.

Arthur held up a golden sea hare that had just been shot in the head by Skarter and threw it on the ground. He squatted down and began to process the fur and then skillfully shaved off the flesh piece by piece.

The Duke did not feel aggrieved at all when he did this, and his whole body exuded a proud and high-spirited style.

Moschery was a bit puzzled, “It seems that your mansion is not so poor that you can’t afford to use a cook, right?”

“What do you know?” Arthur picked out a piece of tender meat, grilled it and threw it into his mouth, “Do you know what ‘Twenty four Filial Husbands1listening to everything your parent(in this case partner) says‘ means? That’s why I’ve rolled over my bed sheets countless times, but you’re still courting.”

       Moschery: “…”

Of course, Skarter was not to be outdone. The young general even brought a secret dipping sauce with him.

After tasting it, His Majesty the Emperor’s expression became even more unfathomable…

Lin Dongliang was surprised for a long time when he learned that Qin Yun could cook.

“It’s nothing, right?” Qin Yun said in amusement, “I knew how to cook when I was still on the ranch. I’ve been living alone since I moved out, so my skills certainly aren’t bad.”

“What a good wife and mother…” Shen Zhuofan sighed, “The cooks in Arthur’s family can’t cook as delicious as Arthur’s.”

Qin Yun was shocked, “The Duke knows how to cook?!”

“Yes.” Shen Zhuofan nodded, and he recalled, “I remember Skarter can also…”

Lin Dongliang admitted, “He can also carve patterns and create platters, and the secret dipping sauce is particularly delicious.”

       Qin Yun: “…”

Lin Dongliang: “Actually, during peacetime, the families of guides and sentinels have a tradition where the former takes charge outside, and the latter manages the household. After all, the mental work tends to be a bit more demanding.”

“You can actually try it tonight.” Lin Dongliang said with a smile, “Maybe His Majesty’s craftsmanship is also very good?”

Although Lin Dongliang said so, Qin Yun remained quite rational about whether Moschery could cook. After all, the other party is the Emperor, so it was not suitable for him to think that he could cook.

It wasn’t until midnight that Moschery suddenly suggested making a midnight snack that Qin Yun realised how naive he had been.

His Majesty the Emperor’s pursuit of a good husband with twenty-four filial piety was truly unmatched in its dedication…

Qin Yun pretended to look at the menu for a long time and finally decided, “I still want to eat dumplings.”

“Don’t you want anything else?” Moschery said regretfully, “Are the dumplings a bit too simple?”

Qin Yun tried his best to look sincere, “I really, really like eating dumplings.”

Moschery raised his eyebrows and put on an expression that said, ‘Is that so? There’s nothing can be done about it’, turned around and entered the kitchen to start kneading dough and rolling dough.

Finally, he rolled out four dumpling wrappers and broke four of the rolling pins…

       Qin Yun: “…”

“…” Moschery’s expression turned a bit grim, “I’m actually good at other dishes, but I can’t control my strength.”

Qin Yun smiled and said, “It’s okay. Four is still four.”

In the end, when it was almost dawn, the four dumplings were completely cooked. Qin Yun took the first bite and realised that they were actually sweet.

“Sweet. Very sweet.” Moschery pointed at each one with a stinky face, “I was originally thinking about doing something sweet2the original is 恩恩爱爱 or doing something affectionate between husband and wife.” The Emperor said with some depression and embarrassment, “The rolling pin was broken.”

Qin Yun could not speak. He felt that the sweet stuffing in his mouth was melting, flowing down his throat and into his heart.

Chapter 30 – Wanjia Village

In the evening, when Xia Hongshen returned to the room, Song Jun was watching TV.

Yuntong was a small county town, and there were no very good hotels in the city. Even this hotel could only be considered barely clean.

Song Jun took a bath, sat on the edge of the bed and watched TV. When he heard Xia Hongshen knocking on the door, he immediately wanted to pretend to be asleep. Later, considering that there was only one key card and it was with him, he had no choice but to get up and open the door for Xia Hongshen.

After Xia Hongshen came in, he only asked him, “Have you taken a shower?” Then he packed his things and took a shower.

After taking a shower, Song Jun lay on the bed and changed channels boredly.

Xia Hongshen was only wearing trousers, and his trousers were not zipped up, exposing his underwear. He was sitting on the edge of the bed, wiping his hair with his upper body naked.

Song Jun controlled her eyes not to glance in his direction, and after changing channels uncomfortably for more than ten times, he asked, “What on earth are we doing here?”

Xia Hongshen said, “Looking for something.”

Song Jun put down the TV remote control, “You obviously accepted the commission to do a pathological examination!”

Xia Hongshen told him, “The main thing is to find things.”

Song Jun always felt that he was fooling him.

Xia Hongshen stood up, threw the towel to the bathroom, then came out and said to him: “Wherever there is a Thousand Years Lamp, monsters and evil spirits are always likely to appear.”

Song Jun looked at him in surprise, as if this was the first time Xia Hongshen had mentioned these things to himself in detail.

Xia Hongshen seemed not used to explaining these things. He thought for a while and continued, “The Thousand Years Lamp is a treasure of the immortal family. It has too much spiritual energy. Its appearance in the human world will inevitably cause demons and ghosts in the world to fight for it. They rely on its spiritual energy to enhance their cultivation. “

Song Jun became interested and asked, “Since it is a treasure, why did it break into pieces and live in the world?”

Xia Hongshen stopped speaking and just looked at him firmly.

Song Jun was creeped out by his gaze, not knowing exactly what it meant.

Xia Hongshen suddenly said, “I don’t know either. By the time I find out, the Thousand Years Lamp has been destroyed and thrown into the mortal world.”

Song Jun was stunned and asked, “Who is he? What does it have to do with you? You need to find him in person.”

Xia Hongshen said, “My people did it.”

After saying this, Xia Hongshen lay down on the bed, pulled the quilt over him, and seemed to be ready to sleep.

Song Jun was a little concerned about what he said about his person. Who was his people? Could it be Feng Junyuan? So, Feng Junyuan was also demoted to the mortal world and separated from him?

As he thought of this, Song Jun saw that Xia Hongshen had closed his eyes, so he got out of bed, turned off the TV, and went to the bathroom again. When he came out, Song Jun found a bag of Whiskas bags exposed in the travel bag he opened. He was confused and didn’t know when he had packed it. He went over and pulled it open to see that it was obvious that there was more than one bag. After standing there in confusion for a long time, Song Jun shook his head, climbed into bed and went to sleep.

The next morning, there was still no time to sleep in.

Song Jun was brushing his teeth in the bathroom when he heard a knock on the door. He opened it to see Long Xing standing in the doorway.

Long Xing smiled and said to Song Jun, “After finishing washing up, go down to have breakfast. After eating, we will go up the mountain.”

Song Jun bit his toothbrush and nodded.

The breakfast was beef noodles at a noodle shop opposite the hotel.

Song Jun and Xia Hongshen arrived a little later. When they arrived, they saw Feng Junyuan sitting alone at a table and wiping the table carefully with tissue. Long Xing was standing next to the stove watching the owner cook noodles, and Xi Anling beckoned them to come and sit down as soon as she saw them.

Song Jun glanced at Feng Junyuan and finally sat at the table with Xi Anling and Long Xing.

Xi Anling took a pair of chopsticks and put them into the boiling water in the cauldron to scald them. Then she handed them a pair and then sat down next to Xia Hongshen.

The moment Song Jun took Xi Anling’s chopsticks, he was suddenly in a trance. He always felt that this scene was familiar, and these people seemed familiar too. But this was clearly impossible; all these people had only met within the past year, and they hadn’t known each other before that.

Long Xing huddled close to the stove, watched the boss cook the noodles, and then helped bring them the noodles.

As soon as Song Jun received his noodles, she saw Xi Anling on the opposite side holding a piece of beef and putting it into her bowl. As a result, her chopsticks were halfway extended. She suddenly noticed Xia Hongshen, so she turned around and put it in Xia Hongshen’s bowl and said, “I don’t like beef. Senior Brother Xia can eat it.”

Xia Hongshen said nothing and buried himself in eating noodles.

When they were finished eating, Lü Hai and others also drove a car and parked at the door of the noodle shop, saying that they would leave after Xia Hongshen and others finished eating.

The county police station brought two cars with six people. They originally wanted to let Long Xing and Xia Hongshen go up the mountain with them. Song Jun and the others looked like students, so Lü Hai thought they were following them for fun. He then said the scenery on the mountain was average, it was not a tourist attraction, there was nothing to do, and the villagers on the mountain were also vicious, so it was better not to go there.

But Xia Hongshen insisted on letting them go together.

Long Xing always listened to whatever Xia Hongshen said, so he told Lü Hai that it didn’t matter. They happened to have a car on their end, so they could all go together.

Long Xing came from the municipal bureau of the provincial capital city. Of course, the public security bureau of the small county town would not embarrass him. Hearing what Long Xing said, he didn’t force it.

A total of three vehicles drove up the mountain together. The county public security bureau drove two police cars, one from their criminal investigation squadron and one from the technical squadron.

Song Jun was still sitting by the window, looking at the scenery outside. He suddenly became worried. According to Xia Hongshen, the aura of the Thousand Years Lamp could easily attract evil spirits and monsters, so there might be something strange on this mountain. He was afraid of seeing something scary.

In the car, Song Jun expressed his doubts to Xia Hongshen.

Xia Hongshen actually asked, “Are you afraid?”

Song Jun thought that he was indeed afraid, but when Xia Hongshen asked, how could he say he was afraid in front of this car of people?

But before he could speak, Long Xing actually said, “Will there be a ghost?”

Song Jun glanced at the young man driving in the front seat and was speechless, not knowing how to answer him.

Xia Hongshen said, “There is probably a ghost.”

Long Xing said ‘Ah’, not very surprised or scared.

The topic was interrupted, and Song Jun was embarrassed to ask any more questions.

Although they set off early in the morning, it was already noon when they actually arrived at Wanjia Village on the mountain.

As Lü Hai and the others said, although this area was not a barren mountain, it was not a place with beautiful scenery and mountains surrounding it. The vegetation on the mountains was sparse, and bare loess rocks could be seen in many places.

The road was also very difficult to walk on. Although cars could pass on the winding mountain road, the road was very bad, and there were many slopes and turns. Song Jun almost vomited while sitting all the way.

As soon as the car arrived at its destination, he quickly opened the door and got out of the car, caressing his chest to resist the nausea. However, the air in the mountains was really fresh. Song Jun stood up straight and took a deep breath.

Wanjia Village is an old village. Due to its geographical location, the village environment was relatively closed. Some young people had chosen to go down to work in the mountains over the years, but the inside of the village still looked old and poor.

The village chief and the village party secretary came to the entrance of the village to greet them. Beyond that point, there were only mountain trails, and cars couldn’t go any further. They had to park on the road outside the village.

Everyone got out of the car and walked inside with the old village chief.

Long Xing heard that the old village chief was suspected of murder. At this time, he couldn’t help but look at the old man. He looked haggard; his brows were frowning, and he looked a little uneasy.

Song Jun always felt that the atmosphere in this village was a little strange, which made him feel a little uneasy. He unconsciously quickened his pace and followed Xia Hongshen.

They were walking about a hundred meters when they suddenly saw a group of villagers standing in front, blocking the road.

The leader among them was an old man with all-white hair and beard. He was leaning on a cane in his hand. He tapped the ground several times and said, “You guys want to come and take Jingsheng away again! I told you guys; we won’t agree to take Jingsheng off the mountain!”

Song Jun stopped and looked at the people blocking the road in front of him. It was roughly estimated that there were hundreds of people. It seemed that the whole village was mobilised.

The old village chief coughed and stepped forward and said, “Old man, these are police officers. They said they wanted to see Jingsheng’s body and not take Jingsheng down the mountain.”

The old man pounded his cane again, pointed at the old village chief and said, “You killed someone just to avoid responsibility because your nephew is the police chief.”

Song Jun saw the village chief’s face change, and he said loudly, “I didn’t kill him! How could I kill Jingsheng!”

The atmosphere was a little tense. The village party secretary said at this time, “The police comrades said they would not take away Jingsheng. They specially invited experts from the university to take a look at Jingsheng’s body and find the murderer.”

Lü Hai quickly stood up, pointed out Xia Hongshen to the villagers, and said, “This is a doctor from the provincial university who specialises in autopsies. He is not from the police, he is not a local at all, and he will not mess around, okay? Everyone can rest assured.”

As soon as Lü Hai finished speaking, he heard a sharp cry from a woman in the crowd. She was still wearing a sackcloth and mourning. She must be a relative of the young man who died. Sure enough, she said next, “You can’t dissect my son. Even if he’s dead, he should have a complete body!”

Xia Hongshen said nothing. Anyway, this kind of matter should be coordinated by the Public Security Bureau. He was just accepting the entrustment.

Actually, it stood to reason that in this kind of criminal case, even if the family members disagreed, an autopsy should still be carried out. However, in this situation, if they were not careful, it would develop into a group incident. The police naturally proceeded with extreme caution, afraid of inflaming the emotions of the villagers.

In the end, several people from the county public security bureau discussed it and decided to compromise first, so they said to the villagers, “No autopsy. Just take a look at the body first. If necessary, we will then discuss the autopsy?”

The public security bureau had conceded to this point, and it seemed unreasonable for the villagers not to agree.

Song Jun saw several men discussing with the old man for several minutes. Finally, the old man nodded and said to them, “Come with us.”

Chapter 11

During class, Zhan Weiyang buried his head and took a pen to write in a notebook.

As soon as class was over, Chen Youyou turned around, picked up his notebook and looked at it. He saw the word “plan” written in large letters at the top, followed by a list of several bullet points. Only the first point had some writing next to it, and it said: “Follow Xie Ling.”

“You want to, follow Xie Ling?” Chen Youyou found it unbelievable.

Zhan Weiyang raised his hand and put his index finger to his lips, “Shh— Keep your voice down.”

       Chen Youyou said, “When?”

Zhan Weiyang lowered his voice and said to him, “After school at noon on Saturday.”

The entire high school section of their school had to make up classes on Saturdays. The first and second year students only had half-day classes in the morning, while the third year senior students had to attend the whole day.

Zhan Weiyang planned to follow Xie Ling after school at noon on Saturday to see where he lives.

“So what, if you know?” Chen Youyou asked him, squatting in the corner of the field.

This period was a physical education class. After warm-up exercises and running two laps on the field, the teacher dismissed the groups and told everyone to move freely.

Many boys in the class were invited to play basketball together, but neither Chen Youyou nor Zhan Weiyang went.

Zhan Weiyang didn’t have many friends. In fact, he was a clean and handsome young man, easily giving people a good first impression. Many people initially approach him voluntarily, especially girls. However, once they got closer to him, those people started to feel that he was somewhat different from ordinary people and gradually distanced themselves from him.

Similarly, Chen Youyou didn’t have many friends. It was not that he didn’t like playing with boys of the same age, but he didn’t like others to imitate him in speaking, and he couldn’t stand others calling him a stutterer. When he first entered the school as a freshman in high school, Chen Youyou happened to be a deskmate with Zhan Weiyang. He didn’t pay much attention to Zhan Weiyang at first. Later, as time passed, he found that Zhan Weiyang was the only one who didn’t care about his lisping. Treating him as an ordinary friend, the two gradually became close to each other.

Zhan Weiyang could play basketball. He learned it from Zhan Weiguang when he was a child, and his skills were quite good. However, Chen Youyou had never been willing to participate in such group activities for boys in the class, so Zhan Weiyang stopped going in order to accompany him.

At this time, Zhan Weiyang squatted under the shade of a big tree, straightened his neck and looked at the basketball court. He answered Chen Youyou casually, “I don’t know. I just searched on the internet for ways to pursue someone, thinking maybe I can escort him home in the future.”

Chen Youyou rolled his eyes unobtrusively.

Zhan Weiyang naturally didn’t see it and continued, “If he gets sick, I can go visit him and bring some gifts to his parents. Maybe they will like me.”

Chen Youyou said, “You, are like a stalker.”

Zhan Weiyang sat cross-legged on the root of the big tree, with his back against the trunk, and said, “I won’t let him see me.”

After class at noon on Saturday, Zhan Weiyang dragged Chen Youyou to follow Xie Ling.

Chen Youyou didn’t want to go, “I want to go home to e-eat!”

Zhan Weiyang said, “I’ll treat you to food.”

Chen Youyou still shook his head.

       Zhan Weiyang said anxiously, “Please.”

Chen Youyou couldn’t bear to refuse anymore.

Fortunately, the teacher in the last class didn’t drag on the lesson, so as soon as the class ended, they grabbed their backpacks and rushed out of the classroom. They headed towards the direction of the first-year classrooms. In the hallway, they saw Xie Ling coming out of the classroom with a backpack on his back.

It was time for school to end, and they were surrounded by students in school uniforms. Zhan Weiyang and Chen Youyou were inconspicuous among them, and Xie Ling didn’t notice them either and walked straight towards the school’s bicycle shed.

Chen Youyou said, “He had a bike.”

Zhan Weiyang wanted to follow Xie Ling to the bike shed.

Chen Youyou pulled him and said, “Let’s g-go to the school gate first, and l-look for the shared bicycles.” The more anxious he became, the more he stuttered.

Zhan Weiyang looked at him and said, “You are so smart.”

The two of them squeezed in among the students after school and ran towards the school gate. They found two shared bicycles on the roadside. They scanned the QR code, and each occupied one. Then, they returned to the school gate and waited for Xie Ling to ride out of the school.

The sky was sunny and cloudless, a refreshing azure blue.

Zhan Weiyang and Chen Youyou were riding bicycles, one behind the other, following Xie Ling from a distance. After riding for a while, Zhan Weiyang’s back was sweating from carrying his schoolbag. He heard Chen Youyou ringing the bell from behind and moved slightly to the side. In the end, Chen Youyou passed him with a smile. He quickly rode his bike to chase her, and the two teenagers chased her back and forth, following Xie Ling as they rode toward the outskirts of the city.

They rode for almost half an hour. The tall buildings around them gradually decreased, and the streets became narrower. This was originally a factory on the outskirts of the city. Later, the city expanded, and the factories were relocated, leaving many old houses built with the factories in the past, which had not yet had the time to be renovated.

There was an intersection ahead. After Xie Ling rode through the intersection first, the traffic lights started flashing.

Chen Youyou wanted to rush over at once, but Zhan Weiyang stopped first and grabbed Chen Youyou. The traffic light on the opposite side turned red.

The two of them watched Xie Ling’s back from across the street, saw him ride his bike into an alley, and then disappeared.

Chen Youyou seemed even more restless than Zhan Weiyang. They waited until the light turned green and immediately chased him on their bikes. When they turned into the same alley, they could see the end at a glance, but there was no trace of Xie Ling at all.

Zhan Weiyang rode slowly along the alley, and at the end of the alley, he saw a gate without any signage. Inside the gate, it looked like a very old neighbourhood, and the houses in the neighbourhood were still the same kind of four-storey buildings with many families in a long corridor. Long bamboo poles protruded from the side of the corridor guardrail, covered with clothes.

They rode to the gate. Zhan Weiyang poked his head in and took a look. He saw a guard room next to the gate, and an old man was sitting at the gate watching TV.

Zhan Weiyang looked around and saw the old man suddenly turning his head to look at him and quickly retracted his head.

Chen Youyou asked him, “How is it?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “Forget it, let’s go back.”

Chen Youyou looked up at the building, stretched out his hand to push Zhan Weiyang, and pointed him upstairs.

Zhan Weiyang saw their school uniforms hanging on a bamboo pole on the third floor.

Chen Youyou said, “It’s, right here, g-go and have a look.”

Zhan Weiyang put his head through the door again and saw the old man still staring in the direction of the door. He quickly exited and said, “I’m not gonna look. Let’s go.”

Chen Youyou said, “Then, let’s go eat.”

       Zhan Weiyang nodded, “Okay.”

They rode back through the alley, which was too narrow. Zhan Weiyang rode in front, and Chen Youyou followed him.

Zhan Weiyang’s bike swayed from side to side, a little distracted. He didn’t know what to do. Even if he knew where Xie Ling lived, he still didn’t have the courage to catch up and talk to Xie Ling.

The road ahead was uneven, with a slanted small step. Previously, they had ridden down directly, and Zhan Weiyang’s buttocks were jolted heavily on the cushion. Now, with his mind blank, Zhan Weiyang attempted to ride up directly. However, the step was higher than he had imagined. The wheels slipped at the edge of the step, causing Zhan Weiyang to fall off the bike.

“Zhan Weiyang!” Chen Youyou called him in surprise, stopped his bike and jumped out.

Zhan Weiyang fell to the ground with his knees on the ground. The palms of his hands rubbed against the concrete floor, and he felt a burning sensation.

Chen Youyou walked up to him, bent down, put his hands on his knees and looked at him, “Are you okay?”

Zhan Weiyang climbed up slowly while holding on to the ground, subconsciously patting the dust on his palms and shaking his head.

At this time, a middle-aged man rode a bicycle toward the alley. When he passed by them, he rang the bell vigorously. The two people quickly backed away and watched him pass before returning to pick up the bicycle that had fallen to the ground.

Chen Youyou said, “Don’t ride anymore. Let’s go, back by my bike.”

Zhan Weiyang felt pain in his palms and knees. He looked down at his hands and found that the skin on his palms was broken, and he could even see the bright red tender flesh underneath. So he unconsciously used his fingers to rub the dust stains next to the wounds and said at the same time, “Still have to go to eat.”

Chen Youyou saw that he was lowering his head when he spoke and couldn’t help but bend down to see if Zhan Weiyang was crying. He found that Zhan Weiyang just looked a little blank and did not shed tears. He breathed a little relieved and said, “Forget it. I will, eat at home.”

Zhan Weiyang said, “But I agreed that I would treat you to dinner.”

Chen Youyou said, “I’m not hungry, you go back.”

They pushed the car out of the alley, locked it on the side of the road, and walked to the bus stop to catch the bus. It was almost one o’clock at this time, and there were not many people on the bus, but when they got on, there was not a single seat left.

Two men stood by the back door.

When he arrived at the next stop, Chen Youyou saw a person in the priority in front of him getting up and getting off. He poked Zhan Weiyang with his finger to ask him to sit down, but a tall young man standing next to them walked quickly towards the seat.

The two people followed him with their eyes until he sat down, and then they looked away and looked at each other in silence.

After a while, Chen Youyou got off the bus and went to transfer. He told Zhan Weiyang to be careful, jumped out of the bus from the back door, and waved to Zhan Weiyang from the platform, so Zhan Weiyang was left alone, staggering along with the bus as it continued on its way.

Chapter 14 – Still Photography

When Zhuo Yue came to his senses the next day, he was already lying on the bed in his apartment. The memory of last night was blurred into disjointed images, and some passages could not be remembered at all. In the following weeks, Zhuo Yue did not see Fang Mingyan again. He started professional physical training according to Shen Luo’s arrangements. Not only did he exercise his muscle lines, but he also hired a dance teacher from the company to train the flexibility of his limbs. At his request, the company arranged English-speaking courses and language expression courses for him. During the gap period after filming the movie, he kept working hard to recharge himself every day, which was quite fulfilling.

That afternoon, Lin Hui came over with a beaming face, “Yue ge, there is an announcement tomorrow afternoon. KF TV’s ‘Starlight Brilliance’ program has invited the director and several creators, and you are also going.”

Zhuo Yue knew why he was happy. The ‘Starlight Brilliance’ was a program that revolved around the interaction between the hosts and celebrity guests through games. Occasionally, there were some attention-grabbing side stories. It was one of the top-rated variety shows in the country, usually featuring well-known celebrities. Zhuo Yue hadn’t been in the public eye for a while, so this was a chance for him to make a comeback. However, program invitations were not typically extended in such a hurry, and opportunities for supporting actors like him to appear were usually minimal. With these thoughts in mind, he asked, “Did Chief Shen mention why she wants me to go?”

“She only said that this opportunity was obtained by the company and asked you to take advantage of it.” Lin Hui replied.

Zhuo Yue didn’t ask any more questions and carefully read the program flow that was passed on. Then he crammed in his homework by watching all the recent ‘Starlight Brilliance’ programs and arrived at the TV station early the next afternoon.

The director, the best actors, and the actresses had separate lounges, while the supporting actors were all arranged in a large room for makeup. Zhuo Yue didn’t see Zhong Cheng, which surprised him. While on his way to the restroom, he coincidentally ran into Jiang Yan coming out from one of the individual rooms, and the two made eye contact.

Jiang Yan wore a white lace dress today and applied delicate light makeup, looking pure and beautiful. She looked Zhuo Yue up and down for a while, then raised her lips and said, “I didn’t expect you to be a ruthless person as well.”

The hidden meaning in Jiang Yan’s words left Zhuo Yue feeling a little confused. He looked at her with a bewildered expression. Jiang Yan, the lead actress, smiled meaningfully and walked away without explaining further.

During the rehearsal, Lu Chenyang stood next to him and asked, “Is the injury on your back feeling better?”

“It’s fine.” Zhuo Yue was not so distant from him, and he was much more relaxed when he spoke, “Thank you for asking your assistant to send me the ointment. The effect is very good, and the scars are almost invisible.”

“Did you make that return gift yourself?” The Best Actor Lu smiled, “It tastes very good.”

He smiled sheepishly, “I don’t know what you like. I heard from the assistant that you have been staying up late filming, so I made a pot of chicken soup for you.”

“As soon as the thermos bucket was opened, the fragrance made the people on the crew drool. If I hadn’t been quick, someone would have snatched it away.”

“You’re exaggerating. Who dares to rob you?” Zhuo Yue couldn’t help but smile. His smile was as bright as the sunshine in March, seemingly radiating from his elegant face.

Lu Chenyang’s expression softened, and warmth oozed from the corners of his brows and eyes, “That’s right, what’s in my hands, I won’t let others snatch it away.”

He spoke very slowly, his eyes fixed on Zhu Yue as if he were speaking to him seriously. Zhuo Yue suddenly felt a little embarrassed and changed the topic, “Zhong Cheng didn’t come.”

Lu Chenyang curled his lips, “He did want to come.”

       “What happened to him?”

       “Can’t get out of bed.”

“So serious?” Zhuo Yue was a little surprised, “What’s wrong with him?”

Lu Chenyang looked a little odd. He stopped talking for a moment, turned his head, lowered his voice, and said, “He was hooking up with a certain director a while ago, and Chairman Luo from Chongyuan Real Estate found out about it. I heard that he got a bruise on his nose and face. He couldn’t get out of bed for several days, and all the announcements were postponed.”

Zhuo Yue didn’t know what to say and sighed, “I see. I only have this opportunity because he cannot come.”

“You will appear here no matter what. The position Huasheng wants cannot be occupied by little Zhongcheng.” Lu Chenyang’s words were full of meaning.

He was stunned for a moment, and suddenly his pupils shrank, and he suddenly realized, “Could it be that Zhong Cheng was beaten because…”

Lu Chenyang smiled and said nothing.

Zhuo Yue’s heart was pounding for a long time, but he finally understood the situation. Given Zhong Cheng’s cautious nature, engaging in an affair would undoubtedly be done discreetly. The fact that it smoothly reached the ears of the benefactor suggested someone was leaking information. It was likely that Fang Mingyan, the well-informed person, was the one orchestrating it. With this move, not only did Zhong Cheng receive a severe reprimand, but Zhuo Yue also found himself on a program he had no chance to appear on. It was truly killing two birds with one stone. Now he knew why Jiang Yan said such things. She saw through the little actions and assumed it was him.

Zhuo Yue really couldn’t explain this misunderstanding. He was not that pedantic in nature. More than a year of frustration made him understand this circle’s cruel fighting situation. Since Fang Mingyan had created such an opportunity for him, he would do his best to seize it.

He was very serious during the whole filming process. He interacted with the hosts, actively participated in the games, behaved in a polite manner, and tried his best to show his best side to the audience by taking others’ feelings into consideration when he spoke.

In fact, after the program was officially aired, Zhuo Yue really caused quite a stir on the internet and instantly attracted a large number of fans.

Because of a still photo from the show that was released for the first time.

He jumped up from the water; his upper body was naked, and the crystal clear water droplets were thrown out by his slightly raised head. His half-lidded eyes were full of seduction that made people’s hearts flutter.

A mere silhouette had captivated millions of people.

The entertainment industry was like a huge casino, where being popular or not was just a matter of thought.

As the poster spread overwhelmingly on the internet, Zhuo Yue, who had been silent for a whole year, suddenly became a hot topic on major internet platforms. His never-before-seen semi-nudity breaks the mould of his former dandy self, and his ambiguous and bold homosexual role shatters his conservative image, bringing him back to the public eye in a whole new light. His sexy silhouette, bewitching eyes and handsome face instantly ignited the hearts of countless young girls. Within 24 hours after the ‘Starlight Brilliance’ program was broadcast, Zhuo Yue’s silent Weibo account soared to nearly two million followers, occupying the top of the daily search charts and even outshining the duo of the movie star and the queen of the film.

The driving force behind this was naturally Fang Mingyan. He had always had a knack for controlling the public eye, and his push this time was also very effective, causing huge waves in an instant.

Director Xie naturally would not let go of this favourable wave. Soon, the official film promotion account posted a short clip, the content of which was, of course, the kissing scene between Lu Chenyang and Zhuo Yue. The kiss was edited so beautifully and touchingly that one couldn’t help but blush and heart beating just by looking at it.

After the trailer was released, it caused an uproar on the internet. Some netizens accused the film studio of deliberately selling something rotten1usually refers to gay stories as a lot of BL/danmei fans named themselves as rotten, while others fought back hard. The war situation quickly escalated to a level of support for gays and anti-discrimination, and the movie was already highly hyped before it was released, earning a lot of attention. Lu Chenyang’s cryptic message on Weibo that night, ‘Good night, Flower Boy’, added fuel to the fire. A large number of fans screamed with excitement, completely bringing Lin Xiu and Hua Zhan in the movie to reality, shouting ‘Linhua CP’ and making the two of them into a pair. The nickname ‘Flower Boy’ also took root and became exclusive to Zhuo Yue.

The purpose of the publicity has been achieved, and who cared how much hype was involved when an outdated artist was made famous again?  Xie Anqing and Fang Mingyan, who were far apart, looked at the glowing computer screen and showed similar smiles at the same time.

The film’s release date was set for Valentine’s Day. At the premiere, standing to the right of Lu Chenyang was the heroine Jiang Yan, and to the left was Zhuo Yue in a white suit. The second male lead, Zhong Cheng, was pushed to the side, and he was so angry that his expression was dark.

A reporter asked Zhuo Yue, “It is said that you played the protagonist’s gay friend in this movie. What is your personal view on homosexuality?”

Zhuo Yue thought for a while and replied, “I think this is just a way of love. There is no right or wrong way. I hope people can treat them with a more tolerant attitude.”

The reporter continued to ask, “There is a kissing scene between you and Lu Chenyang in the trailer. Do you feel awkward when performing this scene?”

“We are all professional actors. To meet the needs of the film, we will do our best to portray our characters well.” Zhuo Yue avoided the important point easily.

Another reporter jumped in and asked, “Mr. Zhuo Yue, fans paired you and Lu Chenyang and named them ‘Linhua CP’. What do you want to say?”

He smiled helplessly, “This is just the relationship between the characters in the film, and fans are just making fun of us.”

“It wouldn’t be bad to make a couple.” At this moment, Best Actor Lu, who was standing next to him, suddenly interrupted. He put his arm on Zhuo Yue’s shoulders very naturally, looked at the black camera with a smile and said, “We are actually a good match.”

Zhuo Yue was startled and didn’t say anything. Jiang Yan raised her eyebrows and pretended to be angry, “You two don’t take me as the female lead seriously. Forget about the premiere. Just release the trailer.”

Her words relieved the situation without leaving a trace. Lu Chenyang laughed and turned around to apologize, “I was wrong. Please forgive me, goddess.”

A famous director was in charge, movie kings and movie queens co-starred, and the wealthy Golden Eagle funded it; the audience liked it very much. This light romantic comedy was a hit on Valentine’s Day and achieved impressive box-office success. Zhuo Yue’s performance in it could be said to be the icing on the cake. He finally stepped from the shadows of obscurity into the spotlight and began to receive invitations from advertisements and TV series.

At the same time, because of Lu Chenyang’s ambiguous statement, “It’s a good match”, their relationship became a target for all kinds of media to spread their thoughts. News such as ‘Linhua’s CP is actually real? The actor said the two are a perfect match’ and ‘The male protagonist does not love the female protagonist, but loves the male co-star’ on the internet attracted a large number of fans to view, complain and make comments.

This movie brought Zhuo Yue back to the public eye with great momentum. Shen Luo had accepted some commercials for him and was selecting some variety shows for him in order to extend his exposure time. The programme ‘The Right Time to Fall in Love’ has just been launched, produced by KF TV. It had a good team and a lot of attention. The film crew strongly invited Zhu Yue, and Shen Luo wanted him to participate but was hesitant because of his awkward status.

The show ‘The Right Time to Fall in Love’, as one could tell from the name, was about romantic relationships. It featured two celebrities, a male and a female, playing house on the show and talking about love for the audience, using ambiguous or romantic scenes to touch people’s hearts. Zhuo Yue was an airborne soldier signed by the boss himself, and the two even lived together for a while. Now, it seemed that they had broken up, and Fang Mingyan basically ignored him, but when it came to creating public opinion for Zhuo Yue, he spent a lot of money without batting an eyelid. The person who was very stingy and haggled over one cent was now so generous that it was difficult for people not to speculate on the relationship between the two. Shen Luo was afraid if she made her own decisions and let Zhuo Yue go, she would make the boss unhappy by seeing him being intimate with a woman on the screen, so she simply sent a report to ask for instructions and let Fang Mingyan make a decision on his own.

Not a moment later, there was a response.

       A simple sentence.

“If I have to take care of such a trivial matter. What do I hire you for?”

Shen Luo was so choked by this question that she asked her assistant to reply to the film crew with a gloomy expression and then dialled Zhuo Yue’s phone.

Zhuo Yue was shooting a magazine cover and didn’t speak for a long time after hearing the news.

Shen Luo said out of thin air, “This is what Chairman Fang means.”

He lowered his eyes and said softly, “I know.”

Chapter 31 – Morning Cloud (1)

Arthur searched around the room and found no one. His ferocious lion followed behind him, sniffing desperately no matter where he was.

“You are just like a male dog in heat.” Arthur muttered to himself as he lowered his head down and stroked the top of the lion’s head.

Ke Qing smiled and added, “The gardener just said that he saw Mr. Shen among the lions. Why don’t you go over there and look for him, My Lord?”

Arthur frowned as he casually tied his long red hair into a bundle and took the whip from the wall.

The evening sun had not yet faded, and the lions were circling the city in twos and threes. Shen Zhuofan was sleeping on the belly of a male lion, with grass clippings still on his face.

Arthur waved his whip a few times to signal the lions to disperse. He squatted down and carefully scanned Shen Zhuofan’s body before bending down and picking him up.

Sweetheart jumped on Arthur’s shoulder, and its huge tail was like a scarf wrapped around the other person’s neck.

As a result, when Shen Zhuofan woke up, they were already aboard the Duke’s aircraft. Arthur turned on the automatic flight and rested his legs on the console.

“…” Shen Zhuofan glanced at his work uniform, “…Why don’t you wake me up?”

Arthur: “Don’t want to let you go.”

Shen Zhuofan was speechless, “Don’t think that everything will be fine if you have a sweet mouth…” He frowned and looked at Arthur’s messy long red hair, and motioned for the other party to lower his head, “Don’t tie it so haphazardly; every time I undo it, I end up pulling out a bunch… Aren’t you afraid of going bald?”

Arthur didn’t move. He closed his eyes and felt Shen Zhuofan’s fingertips brushing across his scalp, and the other party neatly tied his hair into a ponytail.

Shen Zhuofan: “There is no comb… Just settle with this.” He held Arthur’s face and looked around, “Come on, smile.”

Arthur didn’t smile; he just lowered his head and kissed Shen Zhuofan’s forehead.

When Qin Yun saw Shen Zhuofan, he almost didn’t recognise him for a while. After pondering for a while, he struggled to find the right words and finally blurted out, “…Are you here to eat or to work?”

Shen Zhuofan rolled his eyes, “Don’t worry, I won’t eat until you become poor.”

Ba Jin was roasting golden sea hare meat in the yard. This thing was a speciality of B Star. The meat was fat and delicious, but it was not easy to catch. A golden sea hare in the Imperial Capital was sold at a sky-high price. In the words of Shen Zhuofan, eating the hare can buy you a toilet within the Fifth Ring Road.

But the people who usually clamour for it didn’t eat much of it today.

Qin Yun frowned and looked at Arthur, who was carefully cutting up the rabbit meat, almost coaxing and forcing Shen Zhuofan to take a few bites.

“Have you lost weight?” Qin Yun looked at Shen Zhuofan, “You don’t look good either.”

Shen Zhuofan yawned, “I’ve been sleeping late recently…have I lost weight? I haven’t weighed myself.”

He waved his hand at the hare meat that Arthur brought to his mouth, indicating that he couldn’t eat it anymore.

“I’ll take you to get some rest.” Qin Yun watched Shen Zhuofan start to doze off again and said worriedly, “Eat when you wake up and you are hungry.”

Shen Zhuofan hesitated for a moment, then looked at Arthur, who kissed his cheek, “Go to sleep. I will pick you up later.”

Moschery watched Qin Yun leave before kicking Arthur under the table. The Duke snatched the sea hare meat from His Majesty the Emperor’s bowl without changing his expression.

“How did you turn someone into this?” Moschery mocked, “Did you torture him?”

Arthur raised his eyebrows and pointed to his temple, “I remembered.”

Moschery’s face became solemn, “He unlocked your conscious hypnosis?”

Arthur didn’t seem to want to say more. He wiped his mouth and suddenly asked, “Is the god-level guide really in Olympus?”

Moschery was silent. After a long time, he responded indifferently, “I don’t know.”

       Arthur looked at him.

Moschery: “I appreciate your willingness to send troops and put pressure on the Cabinet to release Skarter.”

“I didn’t do this.” Arthur smiled, “It was Zhuofan who wanted to help you. Your guide is the same as him…don’t you want him to recover?”

Moschery remained silent. Of course, he hoped Qin Yun could recover, but whether it was Tristana or Lin Dongliang, the results were failures.

“Only the god-level can completely heal the brain.” Arthur said calmly, “If you want to marry a guide who has no guide ability at all, the Cabinet and Olympus will definitely not take it kindly.”

Shen Zhuofan was lying on the bed, his eyes closed and his face pale, but he couldn’t fall asleep completely. He could only chat with Qin Yun.

“I’m worried that he’s not treating you well…” Qin Yun babbled, “Look, you let him forget about you… This is simply abandonment in disguise…”

Shen Zhuofan couldn’t bear it and raised his eyelids, “Please, I was the same as you now. Oh no, it’s even worse; we both have made the final mark… Well, at least if we can save one, we can save one. Do you want the two of us to watch each other die together?”

Qin Yun frowned, “Then how did you get yourself into such a state these days?”

“It’s hard to explain in words.” Shen Zhuofan sighed, paused, and said hesitantly, “I released Arthur’s conscious hypnosis.”

Qin Yun: “…Can this thing still be solved?!”

“Yes…” Shen Zhuofan looked calm. He turned his face and looked at the other person, “Just one shot is enough.”

“…” Qin Yun, “Don’t tell me that you are indulging in lust and become like this…”

“It would be great if this were the case.” Shen Zhuofan frowned, “To die under the peony flower and being a ghost is also a romantic thing1to die for love!”

“…” Qin Yun couldn’t imagine Duke Garcia as a peony. He felt that the black dahlia was more understandable.

“What’s that expression on your face?” Shen Zhuofan said in disgust. He suddenly remembered something and stared at Qin Yun’s face, “Have you ever had sex with His Majesty?”

Qin Yun: “…How is that possible? I can’t even have Bonding Heat.”

Shen Zhuofan nodded, “It’s okay if you haven’t done it before. You won’t be like me.” He smiled bitterly, “The hypnotic suggestion I gave before was ‘estrus’, but you also know that I don’t have the ability to guide, which means I can’t produce real Bonding Heat. During the process, I almost couldn’t bear Arthur’s mental strength and completely collapsed.”

“I didn’t think it was so terrible to lose the ability to guide before… As long as I can survive.” Shen Zhuofan closed his eyes and said with some difficulty, “But now, the first thing I think about is how good it would be to still be a guide…”

Zhongyan lay on the ground and watched Qin Yun attach a large rhinestone pillow for him. It tried its best to move its huge dragon head in front of him, but unfortunately, it didn’t get any response.

Moschery looked up at it, then lowered his head to continue reviewing the documents. Zhongyan tilted his head, then carefully straightened up, spread his giant wings and hugged his guide.

Qin Yun seemed to feel something. He turned back to look at Moschery, but the latter showed no reaction, with a serious expression on his face.

“What are you looking at?” Moschery asked suddenly without raising his head.

Qin Yun felt ashamed, as if being caught cheating on the exam. He plucked his hair in embarrassment, “Uhm… well, where is Zhongyan?”

       Moschery looked up at him.

Qin Yun blushed a little. He picked up the pillow with rhinestones on it as an excuse, “I, I want to ask if it likes it…”

       “He’s hugging you.” Moschery interrupted.

       Qin Yun: “?”

Moschery stretched out his hand, but he did not get close to Qin Yun. He touched the other person’s neck with his fingertips, “Its head is over there.” Then traced it to near the chest, “The wings are here.” Finally, fell to his waist, “The tail is here.”

Qin Yun couldn’t help but look at all the places Moschery pointed at.

“It is hugging you.” His Majesty the Emperor supported his head as he calmly said with an expressionless face, “Because I want to hug you too.”

Chapter 29 – A Trip

Soon, Long Xing responded to Xia Hongshen, saying that his request was granted, but he needed to leave as soon as possible; the sooner, the better.

That night, Song Jun was working at a milk tea shop. Xia Hongshen came out of the Forensic Medicine building in the afternoon and saw that it was almost time, so he went directly to the milk tea shop in front of the school to find Song Jun.

Song Jun just made milk tea for two female customers. After they took the milk tea, they turned around and left the store. So he saw Xia Hongshen walking in from outside at a glance. His first reaction was to pretend he didn’t see him and lowered his head to look at the small cup on the counter.

Xia Hongshen didn’t seem to mind if he ignored him. He walked straight to the high stool in front of the counter and sat down. He said to Song Jun, “Would you like to go somewhere with me?”

Song Jun was stunned when he heard this. He thought Xia Hongshen was asking him to go out with him now. He was a little nervous, but at the same time, he immediately refused and said, “I’m working part-time, so I can’t leave.”

Xia Hongshen said, “Please take two days off.”

“Huh?” Song Jun didn’t understand what he meant.

Xia Hongshen put his hands on the counter, tapped his fingertips a few times, and said, “Tomorrow is Friday, the day after tomorrow, and two days after that, at most, we should be back by Monday. You don’t seem to have classes tomorrow, and if you take a day off on Monday, it should be fine.”

Only then did Song Jun understand that he was going to a place with him, which seemed to be quite far away. He became confused, “Where to?”

Xia Hongshen said, “A mountainous area over there in Yuntong.”

“Yuntong?” Song Jun was confused. Yuntong was a remote county town in the province, surrounded by mountains. Although Song Jun had heard of it, he had never been there. He didn’t understand why Xia Hongshen suddenly asked him to go there. place. Moreover, the two of them had a big fight last night, and now Xia Hongshen came to him with such an attitude as if nothing had happened, which made him feel very uncomfortable.

The more Song Jun thought about it, the more angry he became and said, “I won’t go.”

Xia Hongshen said to him, “I want to find something.”

Song Jun was stunned and looked up at him.

Xia Hongshen said, “It’s important to us all.”

Song Jun thought for a moment and asked, “Is it the Thousand Years Lamp?”

       Xia Hongshen said, “Yes.”

Song Jun reached out to sort out the sugar packets on the counter and said, “That has nothing to do with me.”

“Song Jun,” Xia Hongshen called him.

Song Jun’s biggest problem in his life was probably being soft-hearted. He wanted to slap himself twice and tell himself to be tougher and drive Xia Hongshen out, but he couldn’t do it. He stared at the counter and rearranged the neatly arranged menus and sugar bowls. But thought of Xia Hongshen teaching him step by step in the lab. Finally, he turned away and said ‘En’.

He was just accompanying Xia Hongshen to go out on a trip; it didn’t mean something would happen to them. Just treat him as a return of favour, and after the repayment, there would be no involvement.

The police were in a hurry, so Song Jun went back to the dormitory that night to pack his things and set off early the next morning.

The next morning, before dawn, the alarm clock on Song Jun rang. He got up to wash up, knocked on Xia Hongshen’s door, and set off with him.

Since he was only going for three or four days and the weather was not hot yet, he only brought a small travel bag with some changes of clothes and daily necessities, while Xia Hongshen simply brought nothing with him.

Song Jun wanted to ask him at first, but then he thought it was none of his business, so he endured it and didn’t speak.

They made an appointment to wait for the car at the school gate. When they arrived, it was still dark, but Song Jun discovered that Feng Junyuan and Xi Anling were going with them.

Xi Anling wouldn’t go into detail. Song Jun simply couldn’t figure out how Xia Hongshen persuaded Feng Junyuan to go with him.

The person who drove over to pick them up was Long Xing.

Long Xing said that this was originally a commission from the Yuntong County Public Security Bureau. The city bureau here did not need to send too many people to go with them. Since Xia Hongshen asked Long Xing to go with him, he simply asked Long Xing to accompany them and drive them there. He was responsible for contacting the local public security bureau and would send everyone back when it was finished.

Feng Junyuan was fine with it, but Song Jun regretted it when he saw Xi Anling was going.

Xi Anling didn’t seem to notice at all. She became happy when she saw Song Jun. She ran over, hugged Song Jun’s arm, and said, “Song Jun, you want to go too. That’s great.”

       Xia Hongshen glanced at her.

Xi Anling noticed Xia Hongshen’s gaze and immediately let go of Song Jun. She put her hands behind her back and did not dare to move casually.

Long Xing turned the car around at the school gate, parked it, opened the trunk and helped them put their luggage. Because he had to drive a long distance, he did not drive out in a police car but instead drove a civilian car that he usually used for work.

Regarding the business trip, Long Xing didn’t think it was very hard but was quite happy. He said that he should treat it as a vacation and go out to relax. He had never been to Yuntong. If he went there, there would be people there to welcome him. The mountain environment was good, and he didn’t have to handle the case himself; he thought of it as a great opportunity.

Long Xing was the driver responsible for driving. Originally, Xia Hongshen was in the passenger seat, and Song Jun, Feng Junyuan, and Xi Anling were in the back seat. However, Xia Hongshen did not agree with Xi Anling sitting next to Song Jun, and Feng Junyuan was unwilling to sit in the middle. As a result, Xi Anling was later given the passenger seat, with Song Jun and Feng Junyuan on the left and right and Xia Hongshen sitting in the middle.

Because he got up too early in the morning, Song Jun began to feel sleepy soon after getting in the car. He dozed off with his head leaning on the car window. When he fell asleep, Xia Hongshen put his hand around his head and let him lean on his own shoulders.

Song Jun found the position comfortable and fell asleep.

When he woke up, the car had already left the city and was driving on the highway.

Xi Anling turned around from the front, took two pieces of bread and handed them to Xia Hongshen. Xia Hongshen gave one to Song Jun and another to Feng Junyuan.

Song Jun hadn’t woken up yet. He rubbed his eyes and took the bread, asking Xia Hongshen, “You don’t want to eat it?”

Xia Hongshen said, “You can eat it.”

Later, Xi Anling gave another one to Long Xing.

Song Jun tore into the bread and ate it while looking out the window. The scenery on the highway was monotonous, and there was nothing to see, but it was better than facing the dull inside of the car.

None of these people spoke much except Long Xing, who had a more lively personality. He would say a few words from time to time and turn on the radio to play music.

A female star’s song was playing on the radio. The female star’s voice was very clear and clean. While listening, Xi Anling started humming along. Song Jun listened quietly, pressed down the car window a little, closed his eyes and took a deep breath of the outside air.

After completing the journey to Yuntong, three-quarters of the way ahead was the highway. As they got farther and farther away from the plains, the surrounding area slowly changed from rolling hills to towering mountains, and the air became colder and colder.

Song Jun opened the window of the car, and his face turned a little red from the wind.

They had lunch at a rest stop next to the highway. The food was not delicious, but it was almost two o’clock in the afternoon, and they only ate one piece of bread in the morning. Everyone felt hungry, and it tasted particularly delicious.

Only Xia Hongshen took a couple of symbolic bites. Song Jun thought he probably wasn’t hungry, or maybe he didn’t need to eat at all to stay alive.

After eating, they continued on the road. This time, they drove for nearly an hour before getting off the highway and then onto the rugged winding mountain road. The speed of the car was greatly slowed down. By the time they arrived at Yuntong County, it was already six o’clock in the afternoon.

Long Xing called the police officer responsible for contacting the county public security bureau, who came and took them to the county public security bureau.

The person in charge of contact was also a young policeman named Lü Hai. He said it was getting late and asked everyone to go to dinner first and hold a small meeting after dinner to explain the specific case to Long Xing and Xia Hongshen.

Dinner tasted better than lunch. After a tiring day, everyone naturally ate more. After dinner, Lü Hai took them to a hotel near the Public Security Bureau to settle down.

The five of them arranged a total of three standard rooms.

Xi Anling definitely wanted to live in a room by herself. Feng Junyuan didn’t want to stay with Xia Hongshen, and he wanted to stay with Song Jun; Song Jun actually didn’t want to stay with Xia Hongshen. In comparison, he would rather live with Feng Junyuan.

But Xia Hongshen obviously didn’t care about their ideas. In the end, Xia Hongshen and Song Jun stayed in one room, and Long Xing and Feng Junyuan stayed in one room.

After putting their things in the hotel room, Xia Hongshen and Long Xing went to the Public Security Bureau to attend the case meeting. Several other people stayed in the hotel to rest because they had nothing to do with the case.

Xia Hongshen and Long Xing were sitting in the small conference room of the county public security bureau.

Xia Hongshen held in his hand an appraisal power of attorney submitted by the Public Security Bureau, which contained simple facts of the case. As a neutral appraiser, all he needed to know was the most basic facts of the case. As for the detailed relationships, he did not need to know yet so as not to form a subjective opinion that would affect the fairness of the appraisal results.

Long Xing was different. Long Xing learned the details of the entire case during his conversation with Lü Hai.

It turned out that the crime occurred in a small mountain village called Wanjia Village, which was nearly 100 kilometres away from Yuntong County. Due to its remote location and treacherous roads, the small mountain village was very secluded, with only a few dozen permanent residents and a population of over two hundred. A teenager’s body had recently been unearthed on the mountain, and it was confirmed to be a child from one of the households, around the age of thirteen.

When Long Xing heard this, he said strangely, “Why not bring the body down for examination? Can’t cars go up the mountain?”

Lü Hai shook his head, “It’s not that simple. The people in the village suspect that their former village chief is the murderer, and the chief’s nephew happens to be the deputy director of our Public Security Bureau. Our colleagues went up the mountain to investigate, but there was no cooperation whatsoever. The villagers are refusing to allow the body to be brought down, and that’s why we’re thinking of getting an external forensic institution to go up the mountain and examine the body. We hope that the results of the examination will persuade the villagers to believe in the findings.”

Long Xing was a little surprised, “That’s quite troublesome.”

Lü Hai nodded, took out a cigarette and handed it to Long Xing. Long Xing waved his hand and refused, saying he didn’t smoke.

Xia Hongshen was still sitting in the conference room, looking through the case information.

Lü Hai peeked his head out from the door and whispered to Long Xing, “So, this is the Forensic Medicine team from C University?”

Long Xing nodded, “He had a doctorate.”

“Doctorate?” Lü Hai said, “Even though he looks like a pretty boy? He is too handsome.”

Long Xing said quickly, “Teacher Xia is very powerful, don’t underestimate him.”

Lü Hai laughed out loud, obviously not listening to Long Xing’s words. He said, “Okay, we will set off tomorrow morning. The mountain road is not easy to walk. Let’s have a good rest tonight.”

       Long Xing nodded.

Chapter 13 – Annual Meeting

After staying in the apartment for a week, the injuries on his body were almost healed.

At the end of the year, the company’s annual meeting was scheduled two weeks before the Chinese New Year. Huasheng had a large number of artists under its umbrella, and the annual meeting was like a grand awards ceremony. The female stars walked on the long red carpet, each trying to outshine the others, while the male stars displayed various levels of sophistication. The artists had already made appointments with each other, entering the venue in pairs, leaving Zhuo Yue, who was alone, looking somewhat solitary.

He vaguely heard someone calling him. Zhuo Yue turned around and saw Lu Chenyang in a silver-grey suit walking towards him. He said with a smile, “Coincidentally, I don’t have a companion either. Shall we go in together?”

Zhuo Yue nodded. Lu Chenyang had a mild personality and was very considerate, and he always took good care of him. After working together, the relationship between the two became closer. On the red carpet, he smiled and teasingly said, “It would be a bit embarrassing if word got out that the prestigious Best Actor doesn’t have a female companion.”

Lu Chenyang smiled and said, “The male companion saves much trouble than the female companion. At least he can walk faster.”

Both of them had outstanding looks and tall bodies, and they were very eye-catching when walking together. Zhuo Yue himself was not used to socializing with others, and on such occasions, his whole body tensed up, and the smile on his face froze. Fortunately, Lu Chenyang was around to help him out.

On the small stage in the centre of the large banquet hall, four big boys were sweating and singing hard to warm up the show. They were a newly debuted band and were said to be very popular. After the singing and dancing, the company’s top executives took the stage to deliver a speech. Fang Mingyan, the president of the company, walked up slowly, looked around, said some words of encouragement and thanks, then walked down and sat at the same table with the company’s major shareholders. The venue was noisy again, singing, dancing, and drinking glasses.

Zhuo Yue was about to hide out from the crowd but was pulled into a toast by Lu Chenyang. Before he could finish the sentence ‘I’m a bad drinker…’, he was already dragged to the table of directors. When he met Fang Mingyan’s gaze, he froze.

Ordinary artists were not qualified to come and toast. Lu Chenyang was an A-list actor and made a lot of money for the company in a year. He was naturally comfortable in front of these people. He brought Zhuo Yue here to get him closer to these directors. He admired Zhu Yue’s acting skills and felt that he should have more room for development.

However, there were rules for toasting. Starting from the main seat, one by one goes around in a circle to toast one cup at a time, and every cup must be drunk. Zhuo Yue was not a big drinker, so he only poured a small layer of red wine into his glass, following Lu Chenyang’s example.

Fang Mingyan, who was sitting in the main seat, casually touched the goblet in his hand to him without saying anything. Arriving in front of a man in a white suit, the man glanced at the wine in his glass and curled his lips, “Such a small amount of wine, that’s not very sincere. I won’t drink with this kind of toast.”

“I’m not a good drinker. I’ll lose my temper if I drink too much. Please forgive me.” Zhuo Yue said sincerely.

Lu Chenyang also helped him out and said, “Young Master Zhang, he really can’t drink well…”

“It’s a rare night to get together and have a good time, so don’t be so formal.” The man looked at him sideways, “If you don’t want to refill the wine, do you want me to pour it for you myself?”

Zhuo Yue could feel Fang Mingyan’s eyes looking at him. He recalled the coping strategies he learned in Hanguan, forcing a smile and retreating to take advantage of the situation, “I will do it myself.” He took a bottle of red wine and wanted to pour a little symbolically into the cup as a token of appreciation. Unexpectedly, Young Master Zhang pressed down the slender mouth of the bottle, and the red liquid filled the tall glass to two-thirds before he released.

How could anyone drink red wine like this? It’s obvious he was deliberately trying to force him to drink.

Lu Chenyang furrowed his brow. This Young Master Zhang, whose full name was Zhang Qinzhou, was notorious for his bad behavior in high society circles. A year ago, when his scandalous photos with a female star were exposed by the media, his father was so angry that he suffered a heart attack and passed away. As a result, five percent of Huasheng’s shares fell into his hands. Zhang Qinzhou was known for his promiscuity, especially with attractive artists. There were rumors that he had played a role in landing a newly debuted artist in the hospital. His behavior today clearly indicated that he had set his sights on Zhuo Yue. Lu Chenyang picked up the glass and said, “Zhuo Yue got quite drunk from just half a cup last time. Today is a rare gathering, and if he gets too intoxicated, he might miss out on a lot of good moments. How about I drink this wine on his behalf?”

“Put it down.” Zhang Qinzhou said coldly, “When did it become your turn to make the decision at this table?”

He said this in a way that did not even give him any face, and the atmosphere was a bit stiff for a while.

Zhuo Yue looked at Fang Mingyan again. He could not help but look at the man. Their eyes crossed each other, and there was some playfulness in the other man’s eyes as if he was watching an interesting drama without any intention of intervening. Zhuo Yue felt a little stuffy in his heart. He picked up the cup and said to Zhang Qinzhou, “Your Master Zhang, I offer you this toast.” After saying that, he raised his head and drank the glass of wine in one gulp.

“Hey… why did you drink so fast?” the man said, shaking the wine glass in his hand. “Is it considered a toast if you are not even clinking the glasses?”

“In that case, I’ll give you another toast.” Zhuo Yue took the cup and filled it himself, touched it with him, raised his neck again, and drank it all. He narrowed his eyes and asked, “Are you satisfied, Young Master Zhang?”

The somewhat arrogant and cold look between his eyebrows made Zhang Qinzhou’s heart beat wildly, and he curled his lips and said, “Satisfied, of course, I am satisfied.”

He drank these two glasses of wine fast and hard. The soreness in his throat and discomfort in his stomach made Zhuo Yue uncomfortable. He said, “Excuse me,” and left. Lu Chenyang exchanged pleasantries with the people at the table and then went to find him. After walking around the venue, he finally saw Zhuo Yue’s figure. They forcibly pulled him onto the stage as a guest for the lucky draw, causing a commotion. When the excitement settled, Zhuo Yue was nowhere to be found.

Zhuo Yue felt hot all over as he was drunk, so he simply went to the balcony to enjoy the air alone.

The New Year was approaching, and thousands of lights were scattered among the tall buildings, warming the city on cold winter nights. Zhuo Yue looked at those lights and felt empty in his heart. He didn’t like such family-friendly festivals, as it reminded him of what it meant to be alone. He turned around and looked through the glass door at the excitement and noises that did not belong to him, sipping the c0cktail in the glass.

“What are you doing hiding here?” a man’s voice sounded.

Zhuo Yue turned his head and looked at Zhang Qinzhou, who was standing beside him, without saying anything. He hated the greasy feeling emanating from this man’s body.

“You’re not a good drinker, yet you drank so quickly. It must be hard.” Zhang Qinzhou pretended to be concerned and put his hand on his shoulder.

Zhuo Yue took a step back quietly, avoiding his hand, “My stomach feels uncomfortable, Young Master Zhang. You’d better stay away from me lest I vomit on you.”

“Want to vomit? Let me help you go to the bathroom.” Zhang Qinzhou had been looking for him since just now. Now that he got the opportunity to be alone with him, he would not let it go, so he simply came over and hugged him.

Zhuo Yue didn’t expect that he would dare to do something so blatantly, so he broke away suddenly in surprise. He was dizzy after drinking and couldn’t control his strength. He hit the wall and felt a dull pain in the injury on his back.

“Tsk, look, where did you get hit?” The man came closer and put his hand on his chest.

Zhuo Yue endured it hard and said with a pale face: “Young Master Zhang, this is an annual meeting, and there are people outside.”

“How interesting,” Zhang Qinzhou grinned. “Why don’t you try shouting? Tomorrow, news of you seducing me will spread from the mouths of your celebrity friends to all the media outlets. I know quite a few directors. If I ask, I can make you the lead actor. Give it some thought.” With that, he reached up and caressed Zhuo Yue’s face, leaning in close to his ear. “I have connections,” he continued, licking his earlobe provocatively.

The sticky and disgusting feeling made Zhu Yue’s psychological structure completely collapse. He couldn’t deal with it any longer. He pushed the man away and said angrily, “I am not the kind of artist who sleeps around.”

Zhang Qinzhou sneered, “Don’t put on this virtuous act in front of me. Do you think I can’t see the subtle exchanges between you and Fang Mingyan? He’s willing to spend money on you just because you’re good in bed, right? I advise you not to waste your efforts. He changes bed partners faster than he changes clothes. Did he even acknowledge you when you were just pitifully staring at him earlier?”

Zhuo Yue was so angry that he tried to leave, but the man grabbed his arm and pushed him against the wall.

“Being polite to you is just a courtesy. Don’t push your luck.” Zhang Qinzhou pressed him tightly and gritted his teeth. “I’m going to r4p3 you here today, and no one dares to stop me.”

“Let go!” Zhuo Yue punched him in the face with the help of alcohol.

Zhang Qinzhou received the punch without any precautions, and his face hurt. Now, he was completely irritated. He pounced on Zhu Yue like a hungry tiger and roughly tore open Zhu Yue’s clothes, causing the buttons to fall to the ground.

Zhuo Yue’s head was dizzy, and he couldn’t use much strength, so he pressed his hands firmly against the opponent. At this moment, a familiar voice suddenly came from behind, “Young Master Zhang, it doesn’t seem appropriate to do this kind of thing at the annual meeting.

Zhang Qinzhou was stunned, turned around, and saw Fang Mingyan standing on the balcony. He let go of his hand and smiled nonchalantly, “We deliberately found a secluded place to cultivate our relationship, and Chairman Fang bumped into us.” This implied that the relationship between him and Zhuo Yue was nothing more than a consensual and passionate affair, and Fang Minyan was the one interrupting them.

Zhuo Yue said nothing, grabbing the torn front with his hands as he stared at Fang Mingyan with a pair of mist-stained eyes.

Seeing that the other party did not deny his statement, Zhang Qinzhou was secretly happy and said, “Zhuo Yue drank too much. I’ll send him back.” He grabbed his wrist.

“I’m afraid not.” Fang Mingyan’s dark eyes were like a bottomless abyss with incomprehensible emotions, but there was a cold smile on the corner of his mouth, “He is mine.”

Zhang Qinzhou’s expression changed. He let go of his hand and said with a smile, “It turned out he was Chairman Fang’s people; it seems I was rude. Zhuo Yue didn’t explain it to me when we got close just now, Chairman Fang, please don’t be offended.”

“I don’t blame those who don’t know.” Fang Mingyan smiled, but his eyes were filled with a cold dark light, “But in the future, Young Master Zhang, please keep a distance from him. I am a petty person, and I can easily lose control when I get jealous.”

This warning sounded more like a blatant threat.

Zhang Qinzhou froze and laughed dryly, “If it’s Chairman Fang’s people, I naturally know my limits.” With that, he quickly excused himself, saying, “I won’t disturb you two,” and hastily left.

There were only two people left on the balcony.

The dishevelled Zhuo Yue lowered his eyes, lowered his long eyelashes, and showed a pale smile, “I have studied for so long and still haven’t learned anything. I am really a failure of a student.”

“That kind of person is indeed a bit tricky.” Fang Mingyan took off his suit and covered him, “He probably won’t attack you in the future.”

Zhuo Yue looked at him quietly for a while and smiled slowly with a hint of drunkenness. In that smile, there was actually some incomprehensible sadness, which was so thick that it was hard to get rid of it in his eyes. His pitch-black yet bright eyes seemed like stars falling from the celestial dome or a lake mirroring the lights, intertwining gloominess and brilliance as if harboring numerous unspoken emotions. He spoke softly, “Chairman Fang’s acting skills are too good. Not only did he deceive him, but he almost fooled me as well…”

       Fang Mingyan was startled.

At that moment, a huge fireworks suddenly exploded in the sky, and the sparkling light illuminated the faces of the two people. Then rounds of fireworks appeared alternately, lighting up the sky. The light of the fireworks flickered in their eyes, reflecting pure black into brilliant colours. The noisy sound in the hall flooded this corner like a tide.

“I’m leaving…” Zhuo Yue murmured, stumbled forward, and was embraced in a warm embrace.

In a daze, the familiar scent of the man’s body allowed him to settle down and let his exhausted spirit drift off to sleep.

Chapter 30 – Morning Dew (3)

Although His Majesty the Emperor’s desire to get married has never been so urgent, if it were really so easy to get married, Olympus would have returned about 100 years earlier… The Cabinet headed by Berlin obviously did not think favourably of Qin Yun, a commoner, as queen. Although he did not dare to defy Moschery’s decision openly, she took considerable action in private.

“Public opinion building has always been what the Cabinet is best at.” Chen Xiao was called back after Lin Dongliang’s leave of absence. The Cabinet also had strong opinions on Chen Xiao as a temporary out of nowhere Minister of Foreign Affairs stand-in as well, “You have to hire some water army1internet troops to sway opinions in the forums and social media to go to Universe 818…Or maybe try showing dynamic life images of the two of you?”

Moschery sneered, “Why should my wife be shown to others?”

Chen Xiao: “…I remember when your wife was still a low-level guide; he lived and ate under the same roof and went through thick and thin together with over a thousand sentinels …”

       Moschery: “…”

Chen Xiao: “Maybe even took a shower together…”

Moschery slowly pulled out the Dragon Scale blade with a murderous look on his face…

“I was wrong…” Chen Xiao raised his hand, “Qin Yun will only eat, live, bathe, and go through the thick and thin together with you only!”

Since deciding to get married, Moschery asked Qin Yun to move to the palace to live together. Old butler Ba Jin was as excited as if his daughter were getting married (…). He flew an aircraft to Qin Yun’s residence early in the morning to pick up the future queen back to the palace.

Qin Yun originally wanted to pack it himself, but unfortunately, the old butler firmly disagreed.

“Just sit down.” He made Qin Yun a cup of coffee and took out the cookies he had prepared early in the morning, “Leave it to me to sort out these things.”

Qin Yun couldn’t resist the stubborn old man, so he could only sit idly on the sofa in the living room.

Ba Jin chatted with him while sorting things, “His Majesty is in a good mood these days, and he even changed the bed sheets to white… Do you like white?”

“I’m all right with it.” Qin Yun asked with a smile, “What colour were his sheets originally?”

Ba Jin: “Pink, because His Highness Zhongyan likes it.”

       Qin Yun: “…”

Ba Jin: “The lights have also been changed. Now they are all in the ink Chinese style.”

“…” Qin Yun: “So they were all glittering rhinestones, right?”

Ba Jin was surprised, “How do you know?”

“…” Qin Yun covered his face, thinking how could he not know about the heart of a sissy dragon!

When he was finally sorting things out, old butler Ba Jin dug out a broken bag from somewhere. When he was about to throw it away, an old letter shell slipped out of it.

Qin Yun bent down and picked it up. He opened it, took a look, and found that it was a letter from Bixi.

The adoptive mother had retained the ancient writing habit for a long time. Her handwriting was not as petite and elegant as her character but was simple and vigorous, and the ink almost smudges the back of the paper.

Qin Yun remembered that he had a quarrel with Bixi when he decided to go to the guide military headquarters. At that time, he was young and energetic, even admitting a mistake felt like losing to him. He knew Bixi had left him some letters, but he chose not to pay attention to it until it was forgotten. It wasn’t until today that he picked them up again.

Old Butler Ba Jin leaned over and observed Qin Yun’s expression, “Do you want to read it?”

“Ah…” Qin Yun came to his senses and nodded, “I will go read it.”

Ba Jin smiled, “Then I will help you load your luggage onto the aircraft. You can take your time to read it slowly?”

Qin Yun held up the letter and watched Ba Jin direct the robot across the yard, the sunlight spreading across the stone path in front of the door.

Bixi still habitually called him Little Rainbow Dash at the beginning of the letter. Qin Yun couldn’t help laughing when he saw it. He could almost imagine Bixi sitting under a lamp, writing letters with her delicate shoulders, silver hair flowing like moonlight—beautiful and serene.

“Little Rainbow Dash, you have always been my gentle and brave little guy.”

Qin Yun read the beginning, and he took a chair and placed it in the yard.

“I remember you staying in my arms at such a young age, not crying or making trouble as if you grew up overnight and could take care of me and my neighbour Grandpa Chen.”

Ba Jin loaded Qin Yun’s package onto the aircraft. He waved to Qin Yun from a distance, “Would you like another cup of coffee?”

Qin Yun replied without raising his head, “Thanks.”

“You still don’t know how to ride a horse even though you’ve grown so old, but it’s true that you’re very good at taking care of it. Do you still remember the little white horse you had before you were eight years old? It always followed you, was good and obedient.”

Qin Yun couldn’t remember when he had a little white horse. Ba Jin brought freshly brewed coffee, and the fragrance was so strong that it could be smelled far away.

Bixi continued in the letter, “I am always worried that you will be in danger if you leave my side, but I forget that you are already so big. In fact, it is not that you can’t live without me, but it’s me who cannot live without you.”

“You are like those horses running in the pasture, brave and fearless but gentle. You will leave my pasture one day and run towards a greater future. I just can’t bear to let you grow up and leave. What can I do? I was even worried that you would be covered in bruises and unable to be under my wings, but I forgot that you don’t need my protection in the first place.”

Qin Yun closed his eyes; his eyes were sore, and his fingertips gently touched the old edges of the letter paper.

Bixi ended the letter with this, “You are God’s mercy, my pride, my gentle and brave little guy. Don’t fear failure and pain. I will be by your side, forever loving you—Your Mom, Bixi.”

In the morning, Moschery was hindered by the cabinet, his face overcast with gloom. When he came out of the meeting room, he saw Zhongyan lying at the door, with two rhinestone-appliquéd Chinese knots hanging from his dragon’s horns.

“…” A vein popped out on Moschery’s forehead, “Why are you hanging these two things?”

Zhongyan shook its huge dragon head innocently, and the two tassels trailing to its nose rustled.

Moschery said patiently, “Do you think hanging two Chinese knots means you are Chinese?” He snorted mockingly, “Don’t embarrass yourself, you idiot.”

Zhongyan snorted, stretched out his paws to wash his face, picked up the tassels and shook them around.

“Stop messing around.” Moschery pushed its dragon face away in disgust, “No matter how beautiful you are, he can’t see you now.”

       Zhongyan: “…QAQ”

Qin Yun saw Moschery waiting at the entrance of the palace from a distance. He seemed to be in a hurry. He didn’t even take off his commander’s uniform and had a cloak hanging on his shoulders.

Moschery took off his gloves. He stood on the aircraft and stretched out his hand to Qin Yun, “Come here.” After thinking about it, he added uneasily, “Let Ba Jin take the luggage. Come over.”

       Qin Yun: “…”

Because of the dark uniform, he couldn’t see it when he was far away. When he got closer, Qin Yun realised that Moschery’s right shoulder was almost completely wet. He thought for a while and understood what was going on. Dumbfounded, he asked, “Where is Zhongyan? Did you scold him again?”

Moschery couldn’t be bothered with Zhongyan’s spoiled and sissy personality. He pulled Qin Yun inside and said, “He didn’t even have Toothless’ life yet he have Toothless’ disease. It’s either acting cute all day or crying, and you treat it like a treasure. What’s the use of spoiling it?”

“…” Qin Yun looked at Moschery speechlessly as even his cloak got wet this time…

Moschery didn’t care at all. He took off his cloak and handed it to Ba Jin. He hooked his arms around Qin Yun’s neck and kissed his lips as if no one was watching.

“Arthur is coming for dinner tonight.” Moschery pinched the back of Qin Yun’s neck, “His guide is back.”

Qin Yun was startled, “Shen Zhuofan has gone back?!”

Moschery paused when he was about to continue kissing him. He narrowed his eyes dangerously, grabbed Qin Yun’s chin and shook it, “I never told you Shen’s full name. Shouldn’t you explain what’s going on?”

“…” Qin Yun said seriously, “This is actually a very long story.”

Moschery snorted. He stared at the other person’s expression for a long time. As if he couldn’t help it, he rubbed Qin Yun’s lips roughly with his thumb and muttered, “Anyway, I have time to listen…forget it, let’s kiss first. Let’s talk after it’s finished.”

       Qin Yun: “…”

It seemed that the little rainbow dash refers to My Little Pony’s Rainbow Dash

Chapter 28 – Heartbroken Again

Song Jun hadn’t considered whether he would regret choosing Xianling, but he also felt there wasn’t much time for him to dwell on that.

Since school officially started, the work in the milk tea shop had been adjusted. Song Jun and Xianling started working on alternating days, with their shifts hardly overlapping.

As a result, not only the chances of getting along were reduced but there was also no time for dating in the evening.

When he didn’t need to work, Song Jun simply went to study by himself. He read in the classroom until after ten o’clock, then he packed up and went back to the dormitory.

That day, he finished his evening self-study. On the way to the dormitory alone with his books, Song Jun met Xia Hongshen.

When he saw Xia Hongshen, he didn’t want to go up to say hello. He stopped to look at the road and planned to avoid Xia Hongshen. But then, he saw Xi Anling behind Xia Hongshen.

Song Jun paused for a moment, thinking that their encounter might have been a coincidence, with one walking ahead of the other, and they were not necessarily heading in the same direction. However, soon enough, Song Jun had to dismiss his own assumption.

They were indeed in tandem, but Xi Anling was chasing Xia Hongshen, and Xia Hongshen didn’t seem to pay much attention to her.

Song Jun couldn’t restrain his steps and followed them in their direction.

“There’s no need to follow me anymore,” Xia Hongshen said suddenly and stopped at the same time.

Song Jun then stopped and stayed quietly behind the small flower bed next to her.

Xi Anling looked at Xia Hongshen and asked, “Why don’t you want me to follow you?”

Xia Hongshen turned around and said to her, “I have said many times not to pester Song Jun.”

“Have you said it many times?” Xi Anling looked confused, “When did you say it so many times?” Then, she reached out and hit her forehead in a daze, “I seem to have heard it before, but where did I hear it? I can’t remember. “

Song Jun didn’t understand what the two of them were talking about.

Xia Hongshen walked forward, and Xi Anling chased after her.

So Xia Hongshen stopped again and asked Xi Anling, “Why are you still chasing me?”

Xi Anling was stunned for a moment and said, “Where are you going?”

“Go back to the dormitory,” Xia Hongshen said.

Xi Anling seemed to think about it for a while and then said, “I want to find Song Jun.”

But Xia Hongshen said, “Don’t go to Song Jun. If you pester him again, don’t come to see me in the future.”

Xi Anling’s eyes widened in shock.

Song Jun couldn’t listen anymore. He hurried to Xia Hongshen and asked him, “What do you mean?”

Xia Hongshen didn’t seem to be panicked because Song Jun heard the conversation between the two of them. He listened to Song Jun’s questioning and said, “What I mean is that I’m telling you to separate.”

Song Jun felt that he had probably never been so angry in his life. He reached out and grabbed Xia Hongshen’s clothes. He said, “That’s my girlfriend. What qualifications do you have to tell us to separate?”

Xia Hongshen said, “You are not supposed to be together, and there is no way you can be together, so why waste time.”

Song Jun shook his head. He didn’t want to believe what Xia Hongshen said. He didn’t understand why Xia Hongshen said that. He only knew that he was angry and embarrassed, but he was timid by nature and was not very talkative. He didn’t know what to say at this time, and what words could he use to fight back Xia Hongshen?

At this time, Xi Anling was in a daze.

It was obviously Xi Anling who took the initiative to pursue him at the beginning, but now, Xi Anling didn’t seem to cherish their relationship as much as he thought. Perhaps in Xi Anling’s eyes, he was not as important as Xia Hongshen.

Song Jun was unable to raise his hand to punch Xia Hongshen after all. He pushed Xia Hongshen away and weakly turned to walk in another direction.

“Song Jun?” Xia Hongshen called him.

He shook his head and said, “Leave me alone. I don’t want to see you.”

Without walking too far, Song Jun sat down on the flower bed next to him. It was almost half past ten, and the number of people on the campus became sparse. He was sitting alone by the flower bed, and no one would notice him.

Song Jun wanted to cry, but he was already so old and a man, so he couldn’t shed tears even if he wanted to. He felt very wronged and embarrassed. His feelings for Xi Anling were not that deep, and he was not so sad about breaking up with Xi Anling. It was more about the realisation that, despite having a girlfriend, the feelings weren’t reciprocated as he had assumed. Instead, she had feelings for the person Song Jun himself was interested in, making him feel quite uncomfortable.

He had been studying for graduate school for more than half a year in a daze, and he didn’t even know what he had done.

Song Jun’s eyes were a little red. He hugged his legs with his arms and buried his face in his knees.

       “Song Jun?”

After a while, he heard someone whispering his name.

Song Jun raised his head and saw Xi Anling standing in front of him.

Xi Anling lowered her head and looked at him worriedly.

Not wanting to be too vulnerable in front of women and not wanting to lose his temper with Xi Anling over this matter, Song Jun calmed down and asked, “What else do you want to say?”

“I’m sorry,” Xi Anling said as she sat down next to him.

Song Jun put his face on his hands and said, “You want to break up with me?”

       Xi Anling said nothing.

Song Jun asked again, “Do you like Senior Brother Xia?”

“No,” Xi Anling hurriedly denied, “I like you.”

“Hmph,” Song Jun laughed, “Don’t make fun of me.”

Xi Anling said, “To be honest, I like you very much. Ever since we worked together at the milk tea shop, I think this boy is really cute, and he is my type.”

Song Jun didn’t believe it and said casually, “Then what did you mean by what you said to Senior Brother Xia just now?”

Xi Anling was stunned for a moment and said, “I don’t know, I think he and I probably know each other, but I can’t remember when it was.”

“Do you know each other?” Song Jun suddenly remembered something, so much so that he even forgot to be angry or sad.

Xi Anling looked at him, “Yes, but it’s just a feeling because I can’t recall it.”

Xia Hongshen was a deity. Xi Anling said that she knew him in the past, but she couldn’t remember. It might not be a casual prevarication. It was very possible that she had actually met him in the past.

With this idea, Song Jun’s mind became active, and he asked, “Have you seen him in your previous life?”

“Previous life?” Xi Anling looked at him inexplicably, “Do you believe in this kind of thing? I don’t believe in ghosts and gods.”

Song Jun was choked by her question and didn’t know how to answer.

Xi Anling said, “I just felt that something was attracting me. This feeling was very subtle, so he told me not to go to him or I would feel very scared.”

Song Jun vaguely felt that it might be related to Xia Hongshen’s identity, but he couldn’t figure out what it was. He could only ask Xi Anling for the last time, “Are we breaking up?”

Xi Anling suddenly reached out and hugged Song Jun. She said, “Even if we break up, Song Jun, I still like you.”

Song Jun didn’t need such comfort from her, so he patted her back to signal her to let go, stood up and said, “I understand. I wish you happiness.”

He pulled himself together, determined to use a second romantic involvement to alleviate the pain from his unrequited first love. However, the second romantic endeavour once again came to an end before it even began.

       Really too bad!

When Song Jun went back to the dormitory, he had no energy at all. He opened the door and closed it after entering. He didn’t even come out to wash up.

Xia Hongshen was sitting in front of the computer, spinning a pen in his hand, and heard that there was soon no movement in the next room.

After being immersed in writing a few words and then turning the pen in his hand, Xia Hongshen took off his glasses and stood up. He opened his chair, and at the same time, he transformed into a black cat and ran out of the window.

The little black cat walked around the dormitory and jumped onto Song Jun’s window sill. It discovered that Song Jun had not closed the window today.

It was already spring now, and Song Jun still closed the window when he went to bed at night. He was probably too tired today and forgot about it, so he opened the window and just lay down on the bed to sleep.

The little black cat slipped in, walked to Song Jun’s bed, and got into Song Jun’s bed.

Song Jun was already asleep and was not aware of the sudden intrusion.

The little black cat walked up to him, pressed against his back for a while, then seemed to find it uncomfortable and jumped in front of him. It settled down beside his chest, placing its head comfortably on its paws. The cat snuggled close to Song Jun, and he closed his eyes.

The next morning, when Song Jun got up, the little cat was no longer there. He walked to the window and took a breath of fresh cold air. He thought that spring was here and it would be the season for cats to be in heat. Otherwise, why hadn’t he seen that little black cat for so long? Was the little black cat old enough to be in heat?

After thinking wildly for a while, Song Jun closed the window and packed his things to prepare for the morning class.

This afternoon, two guests came to the Forensic Medicine building.

They were from the Municipal Public Security Bureau. They were here today wasn’t for dissecting a corpse but for a case. They came specifically to submit a letter of entrustment for forensic examination.

Long Xing was sitting in the office of the director of the pathology teaching and research department and couldn’t help but look around. Director Li had already rejected them just now, but the colleague who came with him didn’t give up and wanted to come and ask for his help again.

Director Li still said, “This is really inconvenient. Here, we have forensic examinations to conduct and classes to teach. Going to such a distant place for what could be more than a day, I’m afraid no one would be willing to do it.”

When Long Xing heard that the two of them were still talking, he stood up and walked outside.

He had been to the Forensic Medicine building several times, but this was the first time he had come to the office upstairs. Long Xing walked around looking for the bathroom, but he couldn’t find it. Instead, he found Xia Hongshen’s office.

“Teacher Xia?” As soon as Long Xing saw Xia Hongshen, he immediately greeted him with a smile.

Xia Hongshen glanced at him and asked, “Is something wrong?”

Long Xing nodded, stood by the door and asked, “Can I come in?”

       Xia Hongshen nodded, “Come in.”

Long Xing walked in, looked around Xia Hongshen’s office, and then sat down on the sofa next to him.

“What’s going on?” Xia Hongshen asked him.

Long Xing smiled and said, “Up in the mountains near Yuntong, there’s a case, and currently, the body can’t be brought down. There seems to be some conflict between the local residents and the police. As a result, representatives from the city bureau have come, and they want to entrust Forensic Medicine experts from outside the police system to assist with the examination.”

“Mountain? Yuntong?” The pen in Xia Hongshen’s hand touched his lips lightly.

Long Xing said, “Yes, but when we came here to entrust the task, your Director Li said he couldn’t spare the manpower to go that far.”

Xia Hongshen continued to touch his lips with the end of the pen as if he were thinking about something.

At this time, Long Xing heard his colleagues calling him outside, so he stood up and prepared to leave.

Xia Hongshen suddenly said, “I’ll go.”

“Huh?” Long Xing was a little surprised, “Teacher Xia, are you willing to go?”

Xia Hongshen nodded, “But I have two conditions. See if your police can meet them?”

After hearing this, Long Xing immediately said, “You tell me first, and I will go back to discuss it with them.”

“First,” Xia Hongshen raised a slender finger, “I want to bring three people with me. You can arrange transportation and accommodation.”

       Long Xing said, “Okay.”

Xia Hongshen raised a second finger, “Second, you have to go with me.”

Long Xing seemed to hesitate for a moment but still said, “Okay, I’ll go back and ask them, and I will give you the answer immediately.”
