Chapter 21 – Little Mouse

Chapter 21: Little Mouse

“What is this?!

What’s going on?!

How come it suddenly has a little lover?!”

Little Black Dragon never expected that after just one look at the Mirror of Origins, its phoenix would no longer want it. It was both bewildered and shocked, refusing to believe it. Instantly, it expanded and tightly coiled around the phoenix.

“Roar!”

Su Muluo looked down at the black dragon clinging to him, feeling gloomy and unwilling to speak.

The black dragon’s dark golden eyes were filled with grievance as it nuzzled its head into the crook of his phoenix’s shoulder.

“Roar.”

It didn’t have any little lover! Other than the phoenix, it liked no other bird.

Besides, its phoenix was the most beautiful; no other bird could compare! It wouldn’t even look at them.

“It’s not true,” Su Muluo replied, “That person is as beautiful as me.”

Black Dragon: “Roar!”

But it only likes its phoenix! Always has and always will! It never had a little lover, not in the past and not in the future!

It even raised a paw, ready to swear.

Su Muluo looked at its paw and said, “What do you want to swear on?”

The black dragon thought for a moment and then roared, “Roar!”

Honey?

Su Muluo: “…”

Su Muluo patted the black dragon’s head and said, “I don’t want honey.” Then, after a brief pause, he added, “If you lie to me, you’ll drink milk every day.”

The tone of this sentence was noticeably lighter, a joke. The black dragon knew its phoenix was appeased and returned to its small size, sticking to his palm and nuzzling him.

“Chirp roar.”

It loves the phoenix the most and only the phoenix.

Su Muluo looked at the little dragon in his palm, then after a few seconds, he patted its head.

He didn’t actually believe his dragon would like someone else. After all, they had been together since they were eggs. But the past revealed in the Mirror of Origin still bothered him, and he didn’t know how to accept it.

Who was that silver-haired phoenix?

Su Muluo pondered silently.

Could it be… a father-son relationship with his dragon?

…They didn’t really look alike.

Su Muluo frowned again and poked the little black dragon.

The little black dragon immediately hugged his finger and pecked at his fingertip.

Su Muluo: “…”

A hint of a smile flashed in Su Muluo’s eyes, but he quickly regained his seriousness and said, “No matter what, when you regain your memory, you’re not allowed to dislike me.”

Little Black Dragon: “Roar!”

It would never dislike its phoenix—back when it was just an egg, it had a natural attachment and affection for the phoenix next to it. It didn’t know anything, but it knew this was its phoenix, its precious treasure that no one could take away.

So, even if it had a past life before becoming a dragon egg, even if it had forgotten that past, it clearly remembered one thing—it only liked this phoenix. If there was a next life, if it were reincarnated, it would still only like this phoenix.

The little black dragon hugged Su Muluo’s hand tightly, nuzzling him in various ways. Su Muluo felt the tangible warmth of the little dragon in his palm, and the anxiety in his heart slowly eased.

From the Mirror of Origin and his previous dreams, it seemed that he and the little black dragon each had a past. But he didn’t know the specifics of that past or their relationship at that time.

However, since they ended up as the last remaining eggs of the dragon and phoenix clans, nestled together, their relationship must have been extraordinary… perhaps they had been together even earlier?

Thinking of this, Su Muluo’s eyes brightened a little, and his mood improved.

No matter what, his dragon only liked him. As for that silver-haired phoenix, he didn’t know or recognize it.

So, he ignored the Mirror of Origin and took the little black dragon out.

In the corridor at the entrance, Liu He was waiting. Seeing Su Muluo come out, she smiled slightly and asked, “Mr. Su, did you see what you wanted to see?”

Su Muluo paused for a second and said, “No.”

Liu He: “!”

Her expression immediately changed slightly. She glanced at the room and saw the Mirror of Origin still lying on the table, then breathed a very subtle sigh of relief.

But Su Muluo noticed her small movement and thought she was worried he might break the Mirror of Origin. He said, “Don’t worry, the mirror is still intact.”

Liu He, realizing he noticed her movement, smiled awkwardly and said, “Sorry, Mr. Su, it was just a reflex.”

Su Muluo gave her a puzzled look, so she explained, “Actually, we often use this mirror because several of our leaders… often use it to catch cheaters.”

Su Muluo: “…”

Su Muluo glanced at the little black dragon.

Little Black Dragon: “…”

Liu He continued, “You know, people who find out they’ve been cheated on aren’t in a good mood, so they sometimes do extreme things like smashing the mirror… The Mirror of Origin has been broken several times, and our branch in Lin City was even labeled the ‘Most Uncivilized Organization’ by the headquarters. The director had to treat them to several meals to get rid of that title.”

After she finished speaking, she remembered Su Muluo’s earlier response of “no” and cautiously glanced at him.

“You wouldn’t be—”

“No,” Su Muluo quickly interrupted, “I’m not wearing a green hat, thank you.”

Liu He: “Oh.” Then she whispered, “Actually, I wasn’t going to ask you that.”

Su Muluo: “…”

Su Muluo felt this visit to the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings was extremely unfriendly, not wanting to stay a second longer. He politely thanked Liu He and then quickly left.

One person and one dragon left the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings, neither looking very happy. The little black dragon rubbed against Su Muluo’s hand, and as it rubbed, a feather fell off.

A pristine white phoenix feather.

Su Muluo: “…”

Another feather!

And it was rubbed off by his dragon!!

He poked the little black dragon and said, “You rubbed it off, you compensate!”

The little black dragon immediately hugged the feather, looking innocently at him.

Su Muluo felt like misfortune was piling up, although it seemed like he was molting, and the feathers would grow back… But he was already 1,800 years old; he should have reached adulthood long ago. Why didn’t he molt before, but now he was?

And he had been feeling sleepy lately, even during the day, just like the little black dragon before.

The more Su Muluo thought about it, the more he felt all this was related to the little black dragon. His oddities only appeared after the little black dragon hatched. So, he rubbed the little dragon’s head, trying to rub it bald.

The little black dragon, feeling wronged, knew coming to the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings would lead to no good. It hated the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings the most.

In the future, it must watch over its phoenix and never come here again!

Because of the Mirror of Origin and the feather, Su Muluo wasn’t in the mood to go to the coffee shop today. Feeling unusually tired, unable to muster any energy, he took the little black dragon home.

Initially, he only felt sleepy at night, then became drowsy in the afternoon. But today, it was still morning, and he was already struggling to keep his eyes open.

Back at the rental house, Su Muluo quickly prepared a simple lunch. The little black dragon, lying on the table, gnawed on some meat while watching its phoenix, whose eyelids were slowly drooping as he ate, eventually resting on the table, asleep.

Little Black Dragon: “Roar!”

You can’t sleep here! You’ll catch a cold!

It immediately went over to nudge Su Muluo. Su Muluo, with sleepy eyes, said, “Got it…”

Then, very reluctantly, he got up, carrying his little black dragon to the bed.

The large bed was soft, and Su Muluo buried himself in the warm, fluffy blankets. His smooth black hair slightly covered his beautiful brows, long eyelashes drooping, looking lazy and relaxed, like a beautiful bird taking a rest.

The little black dragon expanded, affectionately wrapping around Su Muluo. Su Muluo muttered, pushing it away slowly, “No taking advantage…”

The black dragon found its phoenix soft and adorable, so it stayed silent and wrapped around him tighter.

Su Muluo initially tried to push it a few times, but finding it impossible, he got annoyed and said, “I won’t bother with you… I’m going to sleep.”

This sentence was also soft. A hint of a smile appeared in the dark golden eyes of the dragon, its head nuzzling against Su Muluo’s hair, and it let out a low growl.

Su Muluo ignored the dragon, pulled the blanket over his head, and soon fell into a deep sleep in its embrace.

He slept very soundly. After some time, he gradually woke up.

But he wasn’t fully awake, half of his consciousness in reality, half still dreaming, too sleepy to open his eyes.

In this half-awake state, he felt a strong arm tightly wrapped around his waist, as if he were nestled in someone’s chest, even feeling their body warmth.

The familiar feeling from a few days ago returned. Su Muluo,

lying there lazily, tried to nuzzle closer, but his half-asleep body refused to respond, staying in that warm, cozy embrace.

In his dream, a voice asked, “Why are you molting again?”

A gentle voice replied, “Who knows, maybe I’m still young?”

“How come? You’re not a chick.”

The latter voice, full of irritation, said, “If I say I’m young, I’m young!”

The first voice was speechless, clearly not wanting to provoke the other further. But a low chuckle soon followed.

“Alright, you’re young.”

“Su Muluo.”

“Su Muluo.”

The voice was faint but so close that Su Muluo woke up from his dream. Opening his eyes, he found himself still alone in the room, lying in the warm embrace of the black dragon.

The warm embrace felt so real; he rubbed against the black dragon, letting it tighten around him, as if recalling the dream he had just had.

It seemed like… they were having a conversation in the past?

Chapter 178 – Dragon Clan Brothers (Extra 2.2)

Chapter 178 – Dragon Clan Brothers (Extra 2.2)

Lu Chengyu dared to say that if this was his own brother, he would have already turned around and walked away.

However, his sister reacted quickly. She smiled warmly at the nervous young girl sitting there and said, “Hello.”

The girl holding the lunch box was stared at by her and inexplicably became nervous. She stood up and said softly, “Hello, my name is Shen Wenjing. I am a student from the union, and I am from the Jade Rabbit Clan.”

“Oh?” His sister’s golden-framed glasses glistened in the sunlight. For a moment, her gaze was as cold and merciless as Nie Yan’s when evaluating the worth of merchandise. “So, you’re from the Jade Rabbit Clan. Nice to meet you.”

Shen Wenjing inexplicably felt uncomfortable.

On the other hand, Lu Heizai, who was a bit thick-skinned, didn’t notice it and continued, “Wenjing has been eating here during the union these past few days. She brought her own lunch box, and the food is made by herself.”

Lu Chengyu glanced at him and said bluntly, “You made the food yourself too?”

“I…”

Lu Heizai said, “I brought some dry food because Wenjing said if she ate the lunch box alone, others might look down on her, so I accompanied her.”

Lu Chengyu glanced at Shen Wenjing. When his eyes stared at someone, it gave the person a feeling that all their thoughts were exposed under his eyelids. After a moment of staring, he sneered, “I see.”

“Then let’s eat together.” Lu Chengyu wanted to see if she really had only this trick up her sleeve. “Why don’t we just go to the cafeteria to eat together?”

Shen Wenjing didn’t want to be with them because, despite their seemingly friendly demeanor, they actually concealed sharp edges, giving her a very dangerous feeling—extremely dangerous. She wasn’t a match for these two, and they also weren’t her targets.

Besides, her target wasn’t these two. Why should they interfere and ruin her plans?

Thinking of this, Shen Wenjing wanted to refuse, “No, I’ll just eat by myself…”

Lu Chengyu directly said to his brother, “The professor asked you to take care of her. If he knows that you only let her eat the lunch box she brought and didn’t take her to the cafeteria, wouldn’t he have an opinion of you?”

These words finally enlightened Heizai.

Heizai suddenly realized and looked at Shen Wenjing beside him. He said, “Yes, if you go to the cafeteria with us, others won’t look down on you.”

Shen Wenjing was taken aback.

“Then let’s go.” Heizai was enthusiastic. “Let’s eat together, I’m starving.”

He didn’t even dare to say just now that he hadn’t eaten enough, which was really pitiful for a dragon.

Lu Chengyu saw that his brother had agreed, and he showed a meaningful smile. Then he said to Shen Wenjing, “Big brother, if we take Miss Shen with us, people might think Miss Shen is freeloading. How about we directly give Miss Shen the money to let her buy her own meal? Wouldn’t that be better?”

For a moment, Heizai actually thought his brother was very considerate!

Lu Chengyin turned to Shen Wenjing and said, “Then I’ll give you the money, and you can buy your own meal. Don’t be too polite with us.”

Shen Wenjing’s smile froze on her face.

She wasn’t actually poor to the point where she couldn’t afford the cafeteria meal. She just wanted to use this opportunity to spend every noon with Lu Chengyin, and also to get closer to his brother and sister, increasing their chances of being alone together.

If she had to buy her own meal, what would be the point of all this?

However, just as she was thinking, Lu Chengyu took a step forward, looking down at her with an icy aura, and sneered, “Miss Shen, please tap your bracelet. I’ll transfer the money to you.”

Shen Wenjing hesitated, unwilling to move.

“Why?”

Lu Chengyu seemed to see through her thoughts and smiled, “No need to feel embarrassed. What’s my brother’s is mine, and what’s mine is my brother’s. You don’t need to distinguish or care who it belongs to because we are one.”

After speaking, he glanced at the boy beside him, seemingly unintentionally.

Lu Heizai nodded beside him, “Mhm, we are together.”

This sentence was a direct hit to the heart.

Lu Chengyu decisively transferred five thousand star coins and smiled, “I heard from your brother that your family is in a difficult situation. Keep the money for a taxi, and walk in the future. It’s easier for him to get up early a few times.”

Lu Heizai felt ashamed of having his secret revealed, “What are you talking about!”

Lu Chengyu acted as if he hadn’t heard and withdrew his hand, stopping the conversation. He was unusually talkative today, but after dealing with people, he returned to normal, walked to Lu Heizai, and said, “Let’s go.”

Lu Chengyin asked, “Where to?”

“To eat,” Lu Chengyu said, “If we wait any longer, today’s spare ribs will be gone.”

“I forgot! Hurry up, you guys are growing and need to eat more. Spare ribs are good for calcium. Dad said last time you two are picky eaters and only love meat. Do you think it’s normal for the dragon race to eat meat?”

“Isn’t it because big brother likes to eat spare ribs?”

“…Nonsense!”

The three of them left noisily, leaving Shen Wenjing standing in place, watching their departing figures, a hint of coldness gradually gathering in her eyes.

The next day.

“Bang!”

There was an accident at the experimental base during an experiment. The sudden commotion not only scared students in other places but also frightened those in the laboratory.

“What happened?”

“I heard the experiment in that group went wrong.”

“A girl got hurt, right?”

While everyone was discussing, the school doctor had already rushed over. It was indeed Lu Chengyin’s group that had a small accident during the experiment, and among the injured was Shen Wenjing. As the senior responsible, Lu Chengyin followed along.

Shen Wenjing’s injuries were not severe, but the wounds were visible and looked serious. Despite this, she still tried to talk to Lu Chengyin, “Brother Chengyin, it’s not your fault, it’s all my own carelessness…”

“It’s okay, don’t worry.”

“Even if I get disfigured, it might be my fate…”

Lu Chengyin was also a bit stunned. Their school was a noble school, and those who became nobles had strong backgrounds, so they rarely got hurt. Even if they did, they healed quickly. For example, his sister, although a delicate girl, usually didn’t get disfigured from injuries.

“Others wait outside.”

The doctor refused entry to others outside the emergency room. Lu Chengyin waited outside. Other injured students were there too, but their injuries were not serious. The professor arrived later. For his prized student Lu Chengyin, he didn’t scold him but reminded him, “Chengyin, these students need rest now. Originally, they were supposed to return to school tomorrow, but given the situation, they can’t go back. Please take care of them.”

Lu Chengyin nodded, “Okay, Professor, I…”

He felt a bit guilty. The experiment was simple, and he thought there was no problem, so he wasn’t watching closely. Unexpectedly, this small oversight led to a big accident.

The professor patted Lu Chengyin on the shoulder and said, “No one can perfectly avoid accidents. When they happen, we just do our best to handle them, understand?”

Lu Chengyin nodded slightly.

Thus, his younger siblings soon noticed that their eldest brother had become unusually busy. It might have been his sense of responsibility and mission all along, or maybe it was his self-blame for negligence, but he was very attentive in taking care of the injured.

“I’m going to the hospital to check.”

“You guys go ahead, I’ll stay. I’m going to the hospital.”

“It seems like I need to stay overnight; I haven’t been home these past few days.”

Lu Chengyin’s actions finally aroused Lu Chengyu’s dissatisfaction after three days. He said, “Are you a servant?”

Lu Heizai was taken aback.

“Being ordered around by others.” Lu Chengyin said, “What, did you set the fire that caused the explosion?”

Lu Heizai said, “But I’m the responsible person. They need my help. I…”

“Can you manage it all?”

A slightly cold voice interrupted him, and the room fell silent.

“You can’t manage the countless people in this world.”

The boy sitting on the bed had his face lowered, hiding his expression, but his eyes were dark. He said, “Lu Chengyin, do you understand?”

Unlike the usual lazy and casual teasing, these words seemed to carry the weight of a thousand pounds.

Lu Heizai was stunned for a moment, then he pounced and hugged the brother who had not acted coquettishly since growing up, laughing heartily, “What’s wrong with you today?”

Lu Chengyu was knocked onto the bed by his sudden movement and pushed him away in disgust, “I’m not joking with you.”

After some playful wrestling, Lu Chengyin finally lay down next to him, panting, his blood-red eyes as clear as a bright ruby. He said, “I know you’re afraid I’ll be taken advantage of, but your brother isn’t that foolish. It’s just that those kids remind me of you and our sister when you were younger. It’s a pity you two matured so early. It seems you haven’t liked being around me for a long time. When you were little, you always wanted to sleep with your brother, then you started school and didn’t play with me anymore. When you got hurt, you didn’t tell me. When you had problems, you didn’t discuss them with me. I was always worried, afraid you’d be too withdrawn. I didn’t know what to do, and I still don’t.”

As he spoke, he actually felt a bit aggrieved.

Lu Chengyin said, “I thought you didn’t need your brother anymore.”

Lu Chengyu lay quietly on the bed, listening to the rambling voice beside him. He felt an unprecedented calm. He said, “Brother.”

Lu Chengyin: “Yeah?”

“You’re such an idiot.”

“You brat, I’m your brother. Say that again?”

The corner of Lu Chengyu’s mouth slowly curved into a smile. He chuckled softly and finally looked at him again, “Although you’re very stupid, you’re still Lu Chengyin.”

Lu Chengyin was stunned, “What do you mean?”

“It means,” Lu Chengyu said, “no matter what, whether you get married and have kids, achieve great success, you’ll always be my and our sister’s brother.”

That won’t change, you fool.

The next day

Shen Wenjing found that no matter how many messages she sent, Lu Chengyin didn’t come back. He said, “My brother hasn’t been feeling well these days. I need to take care of him.”

Not feeling well?

A dragon feeling unwell? And what could be wrong with that fearful-looking teenager?

Just as Shen Wenjing was puzzled, the door to the ward opened, and a tall teenager stood outside. His appearance was impeccable: broad shoulders, a narrow waist, long and muscular legs. The deep blue, neatly tailored school uniform perfectly showcased Lu Shifeng’s elegance and composure. His looks leaned more towards Jian Luo, softer, which seemed to be the perfect disguise.

For some reason, Shen Wenjing felt a bit nervous, “You, what are you doing here?”

“Are you messaging my brother about the progress of his condition?” Lu Chengyu took a step toward her, his boots clacking on the polished floor with a cold, methodical rhythm, like a specter from hell closing in on its prey.

Shen Wenjing said, “I didn’t message you.”

Lu Chengyu curled his lips into a smile. “So what? Does it make a difference?”

Shen Wenjing was taken aback.

“The one you like is the heir to the dragon clan and all that wealth, right?” Lu Chengyu leaned down, his handsome face magnified in front of Shen Wenjing. His voice was low and gentle, with a seductive charm impossible for a young girl to resist. “What he has, I also have. Is it any different if you message me?”

For a moment, Shen Wenjing wavered. “You…”

A smile tugged at the corners of Lu Chengyu’s mouth. “He’s dumb, doesn’t understand romance, barely passes his grades. He’s not as smart as my sister or as outstanding as me. Do you really think he’ll ever become the Dragon King? With me, your chances are much better, don’t you think?”

Faced with that face and gentle voice, no girl could resist. Shen Wenjing murmured, “But I…”

Suddenly!

Lu Chengyu’s gaze turned icy, like a venomous snake’s, cold and dangerous. He smirked.

“Smack!”

A stack of photos and documents hit Shen Wenjing in the face. Lu Chengyu looked down at her, as if she were a disgusting, lowly insect.

“Take a good look at what you are. Do you have the right to despise him?”

The photos showed Shen Wenjing’s previous indiscretions at school: getting close with a low-ranking noble, bribing a lab teacher to cause an explosion, bullying classmates, and stealing boyfriends. She never knew her secrets had been dug up so thoroughly.

Her heart turned cold. She looked at the man in front of her, feeling a deep-rooted fear but still trying to struggle. “If you dare to spread this, I’ll scream harassment and ruin you too…”

“Creak.”

A sound came from outside.

A girl was leaning against the door, looking in. It was the sister.

Lu Chengqi was playing with a storage device, waving it casually. “Hi.”

Shen Wenjing froze, not expecting anyone else to be outside, let alone that the supposedly amiable girl had a dangerous glint behind her glasses. “I’ve recorded everything.”

Shen Wenjing trembled.

She realized that if she didn’t admit her mistakes now, she might meet a terrible end. She finally understood that this second prince of the dragon clan was not someone to be trifled with.

“I was wrong. I’ll never do it again. I’ll leave right away. I won’t bother him anymore. I won’t even think about him. Please let me go.”

Lu Chengqi raised an eyebrow and said, “Hmm? Are you still going to accuse my second brother of harassment?”

Shen Wenjing’s tears fell like rain. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I admit my mistake. I won’t do it again.”

At this moment, she deeply understood that while the eldest brother of the Lu family might be kind, the other two were not to be messed with.

Lu Chengqi said, “Will I still see you tomorrow?”

Shen Wenjing knew she had narrowly escaped disaster. “No, no, I’ll leave immediately!”

Even though the sister said this, the boy standing nearby still looked cold.

Shen Wenjing quickly added, “I won’t mention you coming here. I’ll find another excuse. I’m really sorry. I won’t do it again.”

The boy’s expression softened slightly but remained stern. “Leave this place and never appear before me or him again. If you repeat your actions…”

Shen Wenjing was so frightened she kowtowed. “I swear, I swear. I really won’t do it again!”

Lu Chengyu’s eyes were filled with indifference, as if the desperate pleas were nothing but fleeting clouds to him. All his mercy and sympathy were reserved from birth, and the only emotions left in this world were for his family. His family was his whole world. He wanted to protect his elder brother and his younger sister. If anyone tried to hurt them, he would never forgive them.

Turning around, he left. The siblings walked out of the hospital and unexpectedly ran into their straightforward big brother carrying some things.

Hei Zai asked, “What are you two doing here?”

Lu Chengqi and Lu Chengyu exchanged glances, and the sister spoke first, “We heard Miss Shen’s illness has improved, so we came to check on her.”

Hei Zai had a puzzled look on his face, “Her illness improved this quickly?”

“Of course,” the sister nodded and dialed Shen Wenjing’s number. She said, “Miss Shen, are you better? My brother and I are outside. Do you need us to come in and see you?”

On the other end, Shen Wenjing was eager, “Yes, yes, I’m better. I’m already getting ready to be discharged. You don’t need to come.”

Hei Zai asked, “So soon, do you need help?”

Shen Wenjing seemed to fear he might come, “Don’t come. I’m already fine. You don’t need to come.”

Hei Zai said, “But…”

“It’s nothing, you just take care of yourself, thank you!” Shen Wenjing quickly hung up, almost too fast for anyone to react. The sister smiled and said, “Brother, she’s fine. We checked on her. The school gave us a half-day off today, and I told our second brother that we should go to Dad’s new entertainment and dining city to play. Will you take us?”

Hei Zai snapped back from his shock, and upon hearing that his younger siblings wanted to play, he became energetic again, “Do you want your big brother to take you? Finally, you realize the fun of going with your brother. You know, a few years ago when you went out, you never took your brother. Do you know how dangerous it is? Only with your brother can you be better protected…”

The sister rolled her eyes and said softly, “I wasn’t out messing around, I was out studying, not just playing.”

“Playing is fine,” Lu Hei Zai said, “You’re still young. There’s nothing wrong with playing.”

The sister retorted, “I’m young, but I can still achieve something. Don’t underestimate people.”

“The family raised you, and it’s okay to have high standards for yourself.”

The sister looked up and exchanged glances with her second brother, Lu Chengyu, who lazily said, “Shut up, you’re so noisy.”

This indeed made the chatty Hei Zai quiet. He said, “Rude child, can’t your brother even say a few words?”

Lu Chengyu glanced at his sister and said, “He’s right. You don’t have to push yourself so hard.”

“You’re always like this,” the sister muttered.

She could never forget how, due to her weak health as a child, her two brothers went to great lengths to protect her. Once, because of her poor physical education grades, their clumsy big brother even deliberately scored low to spare her feelings.

All along, the three of them had been together. She received her brothers’ care and concern, but she didn’t want to be a flower in a greenhouse. She wanted to become a tree that could shield them from the wind and rain.

Thinking this, she heard her big brother say, “The car is here.”

He still habitually stood in front of her, in a protective stance. Even though they hadn’t spent much time together these past two years, their big brother hadn’t become distant from anyone. He still protected and cared for his sister meticulously.

Looking at his back, Lu Chengqi whispered, “Because I also want to protect you.”

The noise from the approaching car was loud, and Hei Zai didn’t hear the soft words. He turned back and asked, “What did you just say?”

Lu Chengqi paused and smiled, “I said, we can park here. Brother, you’re really silly. The school emphasized just a couple of days ago that once caught, points will be deducted from your attendance.”

Hei Zai scratched his head and asked his younger brother again, “Really?”

Lu Chengyu nonchalantly nodded.

From the open space came Hei Zai’s cries of anguish.

The sister looked at her lively big brother, her eyes curved with an inner smile. She used to think she wanted to keep her distance from her brothers, not wanting to be a burden again. But now, she suddenly felt differently. Weren’t they always meant to be together?

She pushed her glasses up and spoke, “Let’s go, we’ll walk ahead together.”

Hei Zai stopped muttering to himself and said, “If we park here, it might be a bit far to walk outside the school.”

“It’s okay,” the sister said, “Let’s walk together.”

Together from now on.
