Chapter 56: Separation
When Su Muluo woke from his dream, the faint light of dawn was already visible outside the window. It was morning.
He shifted in Long Ling’s embrace and looked up, finding that Long Ling was also awake and quietly gazing at him.
Their eyes met, and after a few seconds, Long Ling said, “I had a dream.”
Su Muluo replied, “Hmm?”
Long Ling continued, “In the dream, someone said I looked like a little loach.”
Su Muluo responded, “……”
Long Ling went on, “And they even wanted to name me Loach. It’s so excessive.”
“……” Su Muluo calmly said, “It was just a dream.”
Long Ling raised an eyebrow slightly and asked, “Was it?”
Su Muluo affirmed, “Yes.”
Then, as if nothing had happened, he got out of bed and said, “Get up, we need to go out later.”
Long Ling stared at his Phoenix with a doubtful look for a while, then grabbed his hand and pulled him back into his embrace.
“Was that my past?” Long Ling asked, “Why does it feel like it was such a long time ago?”
Su Muluo, losing his balance from the pull, had to hold onto Long Ling’s shoulder and said, “Why are you asking me? I don’t know what you dreamed.”
Long Ling said, “But from your reaction earlier, it seemed like you knew.”
Su Muluo replied, “I don’t know. Let go of me.”
His tone was very calm, showing no signs of abnormality. Long Ling looked at him for a moment and then released his hold.
He had a persistent feeling that last night’s dream was not just a simple dream. But since Phoenix said it wasn’t, he decided to accept it as such.
Su Muluo got out of bed, and Long Ling followed behind him, asking, “Where are we going today?”
Su Muluo did not answer directly but said, “You’ll find out when we get there.”
After they changed clothes and went to wash up, Su Muluo glanced at Long Ling next to him while lost in thought.
Last night’s dream was clearly about their past together.
However, he hadn’t expected that his Dragon would have the same dream—clearly, both of them had regained some memories.
Seeing his Phoenix frequently glancing at him out of the corner of his eye, Long Ling asked, “Why are you looking at me?” He then squinted slightly and added, “Is it because you called me little loach and I noticed, so now you’re feeling a bit guilty?”
Su Muluo replied, “…… Not at all.”
After saying this, he turned and walked out of the bathroom.
After washing up, the two prepared to go out. However, just before leaving, Su Muluo received a call from Liu He—representing the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings, checking on Long Ling’s condition.
“Mr. Su, how is Lord Long Ling?”
Su Muluo thought for a moment and said, “There hasn’t been any change, but I plan to take him back to our old home.”
He did not intend to inform the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings about Long Ling’s amnesia. After all, his Dragon had sealed his own memories, and the Bureau could not do anything about it.
Liu He responded with an “oh,” and said, “I see. Then I hope Lord Long Ling recovers soon, and wish you a smooth journey—”
She hesitated, as if wanting to say more. Su Muluo noticed this and said, “Don’t worry, you can continue to contact me as usual. If I find out about that person’s presence, I’ll come over immediately.”
Liu He said, “Alright, thank you, Mr. Su!”
After hanging up the phone, Long Ling asked, “Who is the person Phoenix mentioned?”
Su Muluo replied calmly, “Someone who owes us several million but hasn’t paid us back.”
Long Ling looked puzzled and asked, “Do we have several million?”
“Used to,” Su Muluo said nonchalantly. “But it was stolen by him.” He then changed the subject, “Can you transform back and stay in my pocket?”
Long Ling looked even more confused. “Why?”
Su Muluo remained silent, simply gripping his clothing and staring at him without blinking.
Long Ling sighed, “…… Here we go again!”
He looked sternly at Su Muluo for a few seconds, then transformed back into a small black dragon and crawled into Su Muluo’s pocket.
Su Muluo slightly curved his lips and reached into his pocket to gently pat the little dragon. “Don’t come out.”
The little black dragon held onto his finger and said nothing.
When they went to Su Yuan last time, Su Muluo had left a mark there. This time, he did not need the guidance of the Jade Pendant Spirit or the Frost Lichen Remnant Soul; he found his way back on his own.
Su Yuan was still desolate. Su Muluo arrived in front of the small building and took the little black dragon out of his pocket.
“We’re here.”
The little black dragon looked up at the small building and then transformed back into human form.
“What is this place?”
Su Muluo answered, “It’s our previous home.”
Long Ling responded with an “oh,” and looked around. “Why is there nothing here?”
“There’s nothing now,” Su Muluo said, “but in the spring, I’ll bring some seeds and plant flowers here.” He paused and added, “You also promised to dig a pond and create a hot spring for me.”
Long Ling immediately kissed Su Muluo on the cheek.
Su Muluo was surprised. “?”
Long Ling said with satisfaction, “A kiss is needed for me to dig a pond and make a hot spring. Give me another kiss.”
His Phoenix’s face was soft, and the feeling of kissing him was particularly pleasant. Long Ling wanted to kiss him more.
“……”
Su Muluo was silent for a moment, feeling that even with amnesia, this dragon was still incredibly mischievous and always wanted to take advantage of him.
So, he turned and ran away.
The rest of the day, they stayed in Su Yuan and did not go anywhere else.
Here, daylight never reached them, and nightfall came faster than outside. The sky was dark, with no moonlight or starlight.
In the bedroom on the second floor of the small building, Su Muluo leaned against a soft pillow, his smooth black hair falling over his fair skin, his eyelashes drooping with some sleepiness.
Long Ling covered them with a blanket and said, “This place feels strangely familiar.”
Su Muluo tilted his head and asked, “Do you remember anything?”
Long Ling was silent for a few seconds before shaking his head.
Su Muluo patted his head and said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember. We still have time.”
Long Ling rested his chin on Su Muluo’s shoulder, breathing in his pleasant scent without speaking.
Although his Phoenix seemed indifferent to his amnesia, Long Ling felt that something was off. Also, Phoenix bringing him here… seemed to have another purpose.
Long Ling did not voice his thoughts but quietly watched Su Muluo until Su Muluo snuggled into the blanket and said, “I’m tired, time to sleep.”
He placed his phone on the bedside, set it to silent, and then adjusted his position comfortably in Long Ling’s arms, burying his face in Long Ling’s chest.
Long Ling gently patted the back of his phoenix and said, “Go to sleep.”
The two of them fell asleep with their own thoughts. Perhaps it was a coincidence, but Su Muluo had another dream that night.
In the dream, it was still a long time ago. He was leaning by the window of a small building, his long, scattered hair mingling with his white robe. His eyes were half-closed, as if he were resting.
At this moment, a small figure approached him, clutching at the corner of his robe but remaining silent.
It was a young boy with dark golden eyes and two small horns on his head. He had a sullen expression on his face, clearly not pleased.
The Su Muluo from thousands of years ago opened his eyes, looked at the boy, and patted his head.
“What’s wrong? Did Frost Lily bully you again?”
“No.”
The boy muttered, hugging Su Muluo’s slender waist and burying his face in his embrace.
Su Muluo looked at this little temper tantrum who still clung to him and smiled. “Did you accidentally fall down?”
The boy replied, “I wouldn’t fall.”
After mumbling this, he lifted his head and stared at Su Muluo without blinking.
Su Muluo met his gaze for a few seconds and asked, “What’s going on?”
“…” The boy was silent for a moment, then shook Su Muluo’s robe and said, “I heard them say that you have a marriage engagement with the leader of the dragon clan?”
Su Muluo was slightly surprised and asked, “Who said that?”
The boy replied, “I don’t know, but I heard it.”
“You must have heard it from someone who was talking nonsense, or you didn’t hear the whole story,” Su Muluo chuckled and said, “The dragon and phoenix clans indeed have a tradition of marriage alliances, but whether or not to have an alliance is entirely up to personal choice.”
The boy looked at him with some anxiety and asked, “Does the phoenix agree?”
Su Muluo said, “Of course, I don’t agree. I don’t like him.” He paused, noticing that the boy was still not shifting his gaze, and added, “So when he proposed the marriage alliance, I rejected him.”
The boy let out a long “oh,” and his previously sullen face visibly brightened up.
“Then the phoenix is not allowed to agree to any other marriage alliances in the future.”
Su Muluo asked, “Why?”
The boy held his hand, lifted his little face, and said confidently, “Because when I grow up, I want to marry the phoenix! And I want to touch the phoenix’s feathers!”
Su Muluo: “……”
The boy continued, “The phoenix can only be mine! No one else is allowed to take it away!”
Su Muluo: “…………”
Moments later, Frost Lily passed by the small building, saw the boy squatting at the door with a look of grievance, and immediately gathered around to mock him mercilessly.
——
The phone by the pillow kept vibrating, and Su Muluo woke up.
At this time, the sky was still dark. He remained nestled in Long Ling’s embrace, but Long Ling, seemingly unaffected, was still deeply asleep.
Su Muluo freed one hand to grab the phone and found that it was a call from Liu He. He immediately cast a spell on his dragon.
This spell could induce a deep sleep. After confirming that Long Ling showed no signs of waking, Su Muluo got up and answered the call.
“What’s the matter?”
“Mr. Su, we’ve found the hiding place of that golden dragon!” Liu He said quickly on the other end, “The demon power detector detected a place with extremely strong demonic energy, even surpassing a thousand-year-old demon—this should be him, there’s no mistake!”
Su Muluo didn’t expect the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings to act so quickly. After a few seconds of silence, he said, “Got it. Send me the location, and I’ll head over there now.”
Liu He said, “Okay, we’ll wait for you and Lord Long Ling here!”
After hanging up the phone, Su Muluo looked at his still-sleeping dragon, deep in thought.
Generally, a powerful demon can easily conceal their demonic energy, so they wouldn’t be detected from outside—given the strength of the golden dragon, it should be able to do this.
The reason this person was detected by the demonic energy detector might be deliberate… or perhaps it was to lure him and his dragon to their door.
With this thought, Su Muluo gently pulled Long Ling’s hand away from his waist, leaned down, and left a lingering kiss on his lips.
The kiss lasted for several seconds, silent but full of affection. After the kiss ended, Su Muluo got up and quietly looked at Long Ling for a long time… then turned his face away and cast a barrier.
The barrier enveloped the small building. Su Muluo left without looking back, not daring to take another glance at Long Ling.
—— He feared that if he looked one more time, he might not have the heart to leave.
The small building was quiet, shrouded in the heavy night.
……
A few minutes later, Long Ling on the bed opened his eyes.
