Even after talking to Pei Qing for such a long time, there was no way for Zhan Weiguang to let go of this matter completely. He just didn’t have the means to deal with it and could only do nothing for the time being.

On the sixth day of the Chinese New Year, Zhan Xiusong also planned to go home with his parents.

Because Auntie Luo had no time to go home during the Chinese New Year, she would go back to her hometown for a two-week vacation after the Chinese New Year, which was agreed every year.

Once Auntie Luo left, there was no one to take care of Grandma at home, so Zhan Heming and his wife took Grandma back with them and sent her back when Auntie Luo came back after the Chinese New Year.

In this way, the house suddenly became deserted.

Zhan Pengcheng was busy outside every day, leaving only Zhan Weiguang and Zhan Weiyang. The two brothers couldn’t cook. Fortunately, the restaurants outside were open at this time. The two either went to restaurants or ordered takeout and stayed in their respective rooms every day to watch TV series and play games.

Zhan Weiyang started school earlier than Zhan Weiguang.

After the start of the school term, he went out to buy steamed buns at the school gate for breakfast and ate lunch and dinner in the school cafeteria. No one needed to worry about his three meals a day.

After Zhan Weiguang went to school, no matter how late it was every day, Zhan Pengcheng would go home to sleep. If he came back early, he could chat with Zhan Weiyang and ask him if he was happy in school.

As for whether he was happy, Zhan Weiyang hadn’t been very happy ever since Pei Qing left. But with the new school term starting and being able to see Chen Youyou, things were tolerable for him.

After Chen Youyou knew that Zhan Weiyang had dinner in the school cafeteria every night, he also accompanied Zhan Weiyang to eat at school every day. Sometimes the two of them would hang out outside after dinner before taking the bus home.

Sometimes they were dissatisfied with the cafeteria food. When they arrived at the cafeteria, they’d peek into the window, exchange a knowing glance, and then turn around in unison to leave, heading outside the school to find good food.

“If this goes on, I will get fat,” Chen Youyou said while eating roasted pork belly.

The two of them had been eating barbecue for two nights.

Zhan Weiyang didn’t say anything; he just took a spoon and stirred the bibimbap in front of him.

Chen Youyou put the roasted pork belly into the plate in front of him.

       Zhan Weiyang said, “Thank you.”

Chen Youyou asked him, “Why are you so listless?”

       Zhan Weiyang said, “Nothing.”

The second semester of the second year of high school started, and they clearly felt that the course schedule was more intense than before. This semester, they had to finish all the courses in the second year and the courses in the third year of high school.

Zhan Weiyang was somewhat better off; he hadn’t even taken his final exams last semester, and the teachers, understanding his special circumstances, didn’t place much emphasis on his academic performance. Chen Youyou, on the other hand, was in a different situation. He had always done well academically and was aiming to get into a good university through the college entrance exams.

But after entering the university, he had to live on campus. At that time, he would live in a dormitory with a group of strangers, and his daily contact would be very frequent. He could foresee how he would be laughed at at that time.

He didn’t know why he suddenly thought of this. Chen Youyou, who was eating very happily, suddenly lost his appetite.

He looked up at Zhan Weiyang and said, “I just thought, i-if I were a mute, it might be, better.”

Zhan Weiyang looked at him in surprise, “Why?”

Chen Youyou poked the barbecue sauce in the small dish with chopsticks, “I just, don’t have, to talk.”

Zhan Weiyang said, “But you usually talk so much.” Chen Youyou’s stuttering still couldn’t stop Chen his desire to speak.

Chen Youyou rolled his eyes at him, “That’s only with you, or you, can consider, going to the same, university as me?”

Zhan Weiyang asked, “Is it okay?”

Chen Youyou said, “I don’t know, ask your Dad, to go and find out.”

Zhan Weiyang picked up the spoon and bit it, looking puzzled. Then he suddenly asked, “Are you going to C University?”

Chen Youyou was stunned, “I haven’t, decided yet.” He had several universities that interested him, but it was too early to decide which one to apply for.

C University was the school where Pei Qing studied. Zhan Weiyang thought that if Pei Qing could not come again, he could go to the city where his aunt and her family lived to study, and then he could be with Pei Qing again.

But this day was still a bit far away, and he still had to wait for more than a year to graduate from high school.

Zhan Weiyang and Chen Youyou each had their own little worries. After finishing their barbecue meal, both of them, full and satisfied, said goodbye at the bus stop and got on different buses to head home.

When he returned home, the three-story building was empty, and there was no one.

After Zhan Weiyang went in, he turned on the light first and then locked the door. He had to make sure that it was locked and not locked from behind, and then he dragged his schoolbag up the stairs to the second floor.

He had returned to his room to rest. Auntie Luo had cleaned the room next door, and all the sheets and quilts had been changed. The closet was also empty, and not a single piece of clothing was left. There was no trace of Pei Qing’s life there.

Zhan Weiyang stayed in his room and finished his unfinished homework. Without Pei Qing to tutor him, his mind was often in a mess, and he didn’t know what he had written. He didn’t take his pyjamas to take a shower until he finished his homework.

After taking a shower, Zhan Weiyang returned to his room and video-chatted with Pei Qing on his mobile phone.

Pei Qing had been very busy recently.

As soon as the video was connected, Zhan Weiyang saw that the picture over there was very messy, and the camera kept shaking. It took a while for it to stabilise, and he saw Pei Qing appear in the camera.

       Pei Qing smiled, “Yangyang.”

Zhan Weiyang looked carefully at the camera over there. Pei Qing’s background was black, and he looked like he was outdoors. He was wearing a dark down jacket and a baseball cap on his head.

“Outside?” Zhan Weiyang asked in a low voice.

Pei Qing said, “Yeah, I came out for a midnight snack with a few classmates.”

Zhan Weiyang heard the sound of people laughing over there. It sounded like there were men and women, and it was very lively.

“Having a midnight snack…” Zhan Weiyang envied the atmosphere over there with Pei Qing.

Pei Qing said, “Yes, what did you eat tonight?”

Zhan Weiyang answered him, “I ate barbecue.”

“Barbecue again? Didn’t you eat barbecue last night?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “Chen Youyou want to eat barbecue.”

Pei Qing looked at him and said, “You eat barbecue every day; show me if you have gained weight.”

Zhan Weiyang asked, “How can I show you?”

Pei Qing said, “Pull up your clothes so I can see your belly.”

Zhan Weiyang really stood up on the bed and pulled up the hem of his pyjamas all the way over his chest. With his other hand, he held the phone camera far away, pointed it at his belly, and asked, “Can you see it?”

His belly was white and flat, and you couldn’t tell that he had eaten a lot at night.

“Yeah,” Pei Qing said, “I see.”

Zhan Weiyang asked him, “Have you gained weight?”

Pei Qing said, “Can you pinch and grab any fat?”

Zhan Weiyang pinched it himself and said, “I can pinch it a little.”

Pei Qing said, “That means you have gained weight. Don’t eat barbecue tomorrow. You can exercise after dinner.”

       Zhan Weiyang said, “Okay.”

At this time, Zhan Weiyang heard someone calling him from Pei Qing’s side.

Pei Qing raised his head and replied, “I’ll come right over.” Then he looked at Zhan Weiyang and said, “Rest early today. I have something else to do. I’ll chat with you tomorrow night.”

Zhan Weiyang said ‘Oh’ a little disappointedly.

Pei Qing whispered, “Yangyang, be good. Wait a little longer, and it will be fine soon.”

Zhan Weiyang nodded, “I’ll wait for you, no matter how long it takes.”

They ended the video, and Zhan Weiyang lay on the bed, put his phone on his chest, and stared at the ceiling in a daze.

After more than half an hour, Zhan Pengcheng came back from outside.

Zhan Pengcheng came back quite early today. He didn’t go back to his room but came directly to Zhan Weiyang’s room to sit with him for a while.

Hearing that Zhan Weiyang had eaten barbecue for two consecutive days, Zhan Pengcheng said, “Don’t eat barbecue. Eating too much of it is not good for your health.”

Zhan Weiyang whispered, “Dad, drinking every day is not good for your health.”

Zhan Pengcheng said, “Dad has no choice. He has to socialise.” After that, he said to Zhan Weiyang, “Tomorrow, change the food you eat with Youyou.”

       Zhan Weiyang nodded.

Zhan Pengcheng asked him again, “Is the money enough?”

       Zhan Weiyang said, “Enough.”

Zhan Pengcheng reached out and touched his head, “If it’s not enough, tell Dad.”

Zhan Weiyang lay on the bed and looked at him, saying,”Okay.”

Zhan Pengcheng got up from the bed but did not leave immediately. He just put his hands behind his back and looked down at Zhan Weiyang, saying, “It’s almost time. Auntie Luo will be back next week. When Auntie Luo comes back, we will go to pick up Grandma, and then Yangyang needs to go home for dinner. Do you understand?”

       Zhan Weiyang said, “I understand.”

Zhan Pengcheng walked outside, and when he reached the door, he remembered something and looked back at Zhan Weiyang, “If Dad has no plans on Friday, he will take you to dinner. I will call you on Friday afternoon.”

       Zhan Weiyang nodded.
