Chapter 58
When Si Lan met the other’s gaze, a sudden sense of weightlessness swept from under his feet. Everything around him twisted into black, white, and gray lines, shimmering with faint fluorescence. Within these countless long lines flashed scene after scene.
In those scenes, it was him, yet not quite him.
He repeatedly broke through formations, arriving beneath Mount Gushan to meet the Immortal Chiyu, conversing with him.
He couldn’t hear the voices in the scenes, didn’t know what they were talking about, only saw their solemn expressions and silent gazes.
Each scene was so similar. It felt like a cycle, repeated countless times, yet each time was different.
Suddenly returning from the void of space, he still felt weightless. His body staggered backwards, but Haowei quickly reached out, wrapping his arm around Si Lan’s waist, steadying him just in time.
The Immortal Chiyu opposite appeared desiccated, with only hints of his features visible—eyes, nose, lips—but lacking any divine elegance.
In the initial scenes that flashed by, the Immortal Chiyu was tall and handsome. Later, he gradually became frail and emaciated, his features shrinking and sunken, almost resembling a dried corpse now.
What had happened in between?
Suppressing his doubts, Si Lan bowed respectfully towards the Immortal Chiyu. “God, have we met before?”
Haowei glanced at Si Lan upon hearing this.
At that moment, Zhu Ju descended from above as well, assuming a human form for easier entry into the mountain cave. She wore a deep brown gown of golden threads, flowing like flames. Behind her, a crimson silk cloak billowed without wind, while her black hair was coiled into a towering cloud bun adorned with gold and jade ornaments and white pearl hairpins.
Her face was impeccably preserved over the years, showing no signs of aging, with a subtle hint of pride that hadn’t changed.
Her gaze briefly landed on Si Lan’s face, then shifted to the hand Haowei had around Si Lan’s waist. Her brow furrowed slightly before she finally bowed to the Immortal Chiyu.
“Younger generation pays respects to the Immortal Chiyu.”
The Immortal Chiyu seemed to ignore Zhu Ju, addressing Si Lan instead. “Yes, we have met many times before.”
So, the statement “reincarnation over a hundred lifetimes” by Yu Wuxia was indeed true, indicating that he had attempted numerous times to thwart Yu Wuxia, but each attempt ended in failure.
Affected by the cycle of reincarnation, each reincarnation was a fresh start, with no memories retained. In contrast, after transcending to the realm of the Divine Emperor, the Immortal Chiyu’s memories were not reset by time and space.
All those events in the scenes must have been due to his repeated failures, hence the endless repetition.
Thinking of this, Si Lan’s mood suddenly plummeted, descending into an abyss. He couldn’t help but reach out and grasp the hand that Haowei had placed on his waist, gripping it tightly as if to dispel the overwhelming sense of weightlessness.
Haowei sensed his distress and returned the grip, the warmth in their clasped hands easing Si Lan’s uneasy heart, even without a single word spoken.
Knowing they had met many times before, the Immortal Chiyu likely already understood Si Lan’s purpose here. Thus, Si Lan asked directly, “God, how does Yu Wuxia intend to establish a new world?”
Chiyu Immortal raised a withered hand, and with black fingers, he pointed into the void. Instantly, a three-dimensional map of the Six Realms appeared in mid-air. Xuanling Mountain, Dayong Mountain, Yingzhou Island, Tianmen Pass, and Linglong Mountain were interconnected, forming a pentagram formation with the human realm at its center.
Chiyu Immortal explained, “This is the Five Star Nine Heavens Formation, centered around the human realm, linking the other five realms. By sacrificing five individuals with unique Fate Signs, using ressentment, demonic energy, and malevolent aura as the crucible, it will destroy the foundation of the Six Harmonies and the positions of the Eight Principles, causing the collapse of the Six Realms, leading to a new beginning for all beings.”
Si Lan had never heard of such a bizarre formation. He stared at the Five Star Nine Heavens Formation for a long moment before speaking.
“The five individuals with unique Fate Signs must be composed of people like Jiuying, Dayong, and Kui,” he deduced.
He looked at Tianmen Pass and Linglong Mountain. Currently, there were no anomalies there, indicating that the two individuals with unique Fate Signs had yet to appear.
Haowei hadn’t seen the visions Si Lan had seen earlier, but from Si Lan’s trance after falling into Mount Gushan and the conversation with Chiyu, he vaguely understood something, his expression turning serious.
He asked Chiyu Immortal, “Immortal, even if Yu Wuxia can activate the Five Star Nine Heavens Formation, why would Heaven allow him to act so recklessly?”
In Chiyu’s dark eye sockets, his eyeballs moved as he looked at Si Lan. “So Heaven has reversed time countless times, sending Junli’s reincarnation back, attempting to defy fate.” Chiyu was unaffected by the cycles of reincarnation, having experienced countless reversals of time and countless new worlds.
Si Lan realized that Heaven was indeed a seasoned scammer, deceiving him time and again.
“In that case, why doesn’t Heaven kill Yu Wuxia itself?” Si Lan asked.
Chiyu sighed slightly and said slowly, “Heaven cannot kill Yu Wuxia. While everyone knows Heaven has three sons, few know it actually has a fourth son: Chunfeng, Qiuyu, Dongshuang, and Xiaolei. Chunfeng takes a breath from Heaven, Qiuyu takes a tear, Dongshuang takes a sigh, and the fourth son, Xiaolei, embodies Heaven’s dark side.”
Si Lan and Haowei couldn’t help but hold their breath upon hearing this.
Beside them, Juzhu’s eyes widened in astonishment.
Chiyu’s words overturned their previous understanding of the Six Realms.
Chiyu continued, “This dark side was sealed by Heaven for tens of thousands of years. Later, it cultivated and took human form, indoctrinated by Heaven, arranging destinies of utmost goodness and sincerity, striving for virtue over hundreds of lifetimes. But unexpectedly, this dark side eventually chose the path of demonic evil.”
Si Lan suddenly understood why Yu Wuxia understood how to reconstruct the formation of the Six Realms; because he was the embodiment of Heaven’s dark side, he suddenly understood why Yu Wuxia was so confident in telling him everything in his dreams. If Heaven couldn’t handle him, what could they do?
Seeing Si Lan’s expression of helplessness, Chiyu explained, “Although Yu Wuxia comes from Heaven’s dark side, Heaven doesn’t know his weaknesses. Originally, Heaven hoped to find Yu Wuxia’s weaknesses through your repeated appearances and seal him away.”
Si Lan cursed Heaven in his heart for being so cunning.
He had undergone countless cycles of reincarnation, enduring suffering and torment, all to make Heaven discover the weaknesses in his dark side.
If Heaven had not fostered ill intentions first, how could there be a dark side? He knew very well what darkness lay in his heart. Now, it was causing turmoil across the Six Realms.
No wonder Fan Yu had chosen to resist Heaven even at the cost of his soul’s destruction. If Junli had known how shameless Heaven truly was back then, he might have joined forces with Fan Yu against it.
Si Lan silently mocked them in his heart.
Hearing this, Haowei’s facial muscles tightened, his breath deepening as he grasped Si Lan’s hand with added strength. Countless reversals of time by Heaven meant all previous attempts to defy fate had failed, and Si Lan had repeatedly perished at the hands of Yu Wuxia.
Eight hundred years since his ascension to God Emperor, Haowei had not experienced as much as Chiyu, nor had he been able to assist Si Lan. A rage welled up within him, directed at Yu Wuxia, Heaven, or perhaps himself for arriving too late and being unable to help Si Lan.
His expression darkened. ” Immortal, I want to know why we can’t seal Yu Wuxia.”
Chiyu sighed softly, tapped his fingertip, and the three-dimensional map of the Six Realms vanished, replaced by scenes from a past life.
In the vision, Si Lan was stabbed in the heart by Yu Wuxia’s sword and sealed in place, watching helplessly as the Five Star Nine Heavens Formation activated. When Si Lan finally broke free from the seal, he was already fatally wounded by the formation, dissolving into nothingness in an instant.
Chiyu explained, “The Five Star Nine Heavens Formation is activated using his own soul as the catalyst. Thus, without finding Yu Wuxia’s soul weakness, we cannot unravel the formation.”
Pausing, Chiyu continued, “You and I have discussed countless times in search of Yu Wuxia’s weakness, attempting to approach it through the seven aspects of greed, anger, ignorance, attachment, love, hatred, and desire, but all have failed.”
Si Lan was speechless, gazing at the image of Yu Wuxia. His brows furrowed involuntarily.
Yu Wuxia desired to establish a new world where there was only one species, achieving absolute equality in intelligence, talent, cultivation, and even emotions.
Si Lan didn’t know if this world would be beautiful, but he felt only a madman could conceive and carry out such a plan.
Chiyu added, “Heaven has always been dissatisfied with the Six Realms it created. Yu Wuxia inherited these dark thoughts, hence his desire to create a world of absolute fairness and freedom for all.”
Haowei glanced briefly at the scene of Si Lan being pierced by the sword and quickly looked away.
His mind roiled with anger, but he could only suppress his emotions by holding Si Lan’s hand.
Chiyu looked at Si Lan and said, “In your past life, you thought Yu Wuxia harbored resentment because Jia Heng Buddha replaced him in attaining enlightenment, considering it his weakness to exploit. But you were wrong. His obsession didn’t begin in that life.”
Si Lan turned to look at Hao Wei upon hearing the sound, suddenly remembering something serious. He had been engrossed in conversation with the Divine Sovereign just now, completely forgetting that he and Hao Wei were holding hands. In other words, they had been openly holding hands in front of the old Divine Sovereign all this time?
Si Lan’s face flushed red all of a sudden. He wanted to release Hao Wei’s hand, but Hao Wei had a strong grip. Si Lan struggled a few times but couldn’t break free. He didn’t want to make a scene, so he raised his head and pretended to smile calmly, “If that’s the case, then it’s good.”
Chiyu’s hood moved slightly, a nod in response.
Bringing up the matter of the “Divine Emperor,” Si Lan hesitated as he looked at Chiyu, then spoke, “Divine Sovereign, since you once served as the Divine Emperor, how did you end up in your current form?”
“The Divine Emperor transcended the cycles of reincarnation, no longer bound by worldly rules. Yet, the ultimate supremacy is akin to nothingness, it becomes the rule.” Saying this, the Divine Sovereign Chiyu’s eyes shifted towards Hao Wei, each word deliberate, “It will transform into an existence akin to the Heavenly Dao, for all things in this world, yet also nothingness in this world.”
Si Lan was momentarily stunned at this revelation. The fingers held by Hao Wei trembled slightly, revealing a hint of unease.
What did it mean to transform into an existence akin to the Heavenly Dao?
Could it be that Hao Wei would eventually become like the Divine Sovereign Chiyu, becoming a formless Heavenly Dao?
But wouldn’t that, from another perspective, be akin to a divine fall?
Chiyu, the Divine Sovereign, had lived for a hundred thousand years before achieving the level of Divine Emperor, yet fell within less than twenty thousand years. Meanwhile, Hao Wei inherited fifty thousand years of cultivation from Tai Wei and attained the level of Divine Emperor by the age of eight hundred.
Then… wouldn’t Hao Wei at most have a lifespan of only twenty thousand years?
Si Lan’s mood suddenly sank. He remained silent, while Hao Wei appeared remarkably calm, seeming to have asked all the questions he needed to.
However, before leaving, there was one more thing he wanted to clarify on Si Lan’s behalf.
“Divine Sovereign, do you still remember tens of thousands of years ago, before your seclusion, when you left behind the Divine Array to protect Princess Fang Yi of the Phoenix Clan?”
Chiyu seemed to recall something, his withered face showing a moment of silence before nodding.
“Yes.”
“Later, when Princess Fang Yi passed away, she passed the Divine Array to others of the Phoenix Clan. Now, it has been exploited by someone with ill intentions, turning it into a weapon of murder.”
Si Lan, hearing this, regained his senses and glanced at Hao Wei’s tense profile. He hadn’t expected that after hearing about the possibility of divine fall, Hao Wei remained completely composed, even assisting in asking questions for him.
Chiyu murmured, “Has Fang Yi died?”
“Yes, Princess Fang Yi has passed away for over ten thousand years.”
Juzhu, who had been unable to interject until now, hurriedly stepped forward, “Divine Sovereign, Princess Fang Yi was my great aunt. Now, this Divine Array follows her wishes and protects me.”
Chiyu slowly shifted his gaze to Juzhu, coldly saying each word, “Impossible. Fang Yi would never pass my Divine Array to others.” The Divine Array was a manifestation of Chiyu’s lingering obsession, guarding Fang Yi unconditionally, so Fang Yi could never have given his obsession to someone else.
