Chapter 140 – It’s Fine If I Sleep on the Sofa

Lu Shifeng brought three brats back home for dinner.

Jian Sheng, following behind, felt a bit surreal, even wondering if he had misheard something strange just now.

Must have misheard, he thought.

After all, it’s Lu Shifeng, the famous War God. Could words like “afraid of the dark” even be associated with him?

Impossible, definitely impossible!

The group returned to the dining room where the aroma of food greeted them. Jian Luo had just finished freshening up and glanced at them. “You’re back, let’s eat.”

Lu Shifeng sat down without a care in the world.

Beside him, Jian Sheng and Su Liang felt somewhat uneasy. They weren’t quite used to dining with Lu Shifeng, so they were rather reserved. It felt like ordinary commoners suddenly invited to dine with a British prince—an enchanting, surreal feeling.

Jian Luo instructed the three brats to sit properly.

Long Aotian still had bits of Jumping Fruit around his mouth. Jian Luo asked, “Have you eaten something?”

Long Aotian decisively shook his head.

Jian Luo pressed further, “Who gave it to you?”

Long Aotian quickly pointed with his little paw at Lu Shifeng, betraying him without hesitation or second thought.

Lu Shifeng raised an eyebrow and glanced at Long Aotian.

Long Aotian quickly averted his eyes and hid behind Jian Luo’s arm, trying hard to distance himself from his formidable dad. “Can’t see, can’t see, if I can’t see, then I don’t know who said it.”

Jian Luo first arranged the bowls for the three brats, then while serving rice, he started to chatter. “As I’ve told you before, they can’t eat random things now. Their stomachs are too fragile. Last time, Long Aotian threw up after eating a St. Luo Fruit.”

Lu Shifeng took his food and replied softly, “Understood.”

Jian Luo continued, “The doctor says they have malnutrition now. When you train them, you must keep an eye on them. If there’s anything wrong, get the doctor to check them promptly. Although dragons aren’t that fragile, he’s my offspring, and humans are more delicate. I’m afraid some genetic defect might have been passed on, which could have negative effects.”

Lu Shifeng tasted a piece of ribs and glanced at Jian Luo’s plate, noticing very little rice. He asked, “Just this much?”

Jian Luo nodded at first, then added, “Did you hear what I just said?”

Though he seemed a bit abrupt, Jian Luo’s voice itself was soft, carrying a hint of coquettishness and petulance in whatever he said.

He himself didn’t think much of it; it had always been like this. But it frightened Su Liang and Jian Sheng next to him enough that they wished they could rush over and cover Jian Luo’s mouth.

Lu Shifeng sipped his soup. “If someone’s following, I’ll notice. Don’t worry too much.”

Jian Luo gave him a slightly reproachful glance. “I’m serious with you.”

“Mm.” Lu Shifeng calmly responded, “I’m listening.”

Jian Luo relented then.

He quieted down, but Su Liang and Jian Sheng beside him were still uneasy.

Especially Su Liang, who had broken out in a sweat all over her back. She couldn’t believe her own son would actually behave this way. Wasn’t he afraid?

Who on earth had the audacity to speak like that to Marshal Lu Shifeng?

They finished their meal quickly.

After finishing his meal, Lu Shifeng habitually told the three on the table, “Up, go bathe.”

Back in the tribe, Lu Shifeng used to take care of their bathing. Now it has become a habit for them, eating and then bathing with their dad.

Jian Luo said, “Are you busy? If so, I’ll take them myself later.”

Lu Shifeng adjusted them on his shoulders. “There’s no need to not take a bath.”

Jian Luo pursed his lips and let him be.

But Lu Shifeng also didn’t forget to say to the two, “Take your time.”

Su Liang started to shake and nodded quickly. “Go ahead.”

Lu Shifeng took a deep breath and left.

When Lu Shifeng got far enough away, Su Liang couldn’t sit still anymore, and came over to say, “Luoluo, how can you talk to General Lu like that?”

Jian Luo, eating, found this absurd: “How did I speak?”

Aren’t we like this to Lu Shifeng all the time?

“You… you’re not making distinctions!” Su Liang was beyond iron and steel. “Aren’t you even afraid to annoy him?”

?

Jian Luo recollected what he had just written earlier.

…..

Lu Shifeng paused while holding the document, his face remained calm as he spoke, “Vomited the nutritional drink today. Might be due to some health issues. Took some test medicine.”

He paused before continuing, “Sleep in the adjacent room tonight. Don’t come over. You’ll start another commotion, not cooperating with the observation.”

He had figured out that these three kids weren’t as fragile as they appeared. They didn’t strike hard when Jian Luo was around, and when he was, they immediately became submissive, pretending to be delicate.

Jian Luo frowned, “I absolutely can’t come over?”

“Yeah,” Lu Shifeng replied, “No need to worry. I have Secretary Jin watching them next door.”

Jian Luo relaxed a bit, “Okay then.”

It was the first night in so long without the kids around. Once he settled down, he felt a bit lonely. It was as if a piece of his heart had suddenly gone empty, a void filled with uncontrollable thoughts.

“They’re not that fragile, no need to worry too much,” Lu Shifeng said.

Jian Luo nodded, sitting cross-legged on the sofa. Suddenly, he remembered something and looked at Lu Shifeng, “Um… It’s getting late.”

Lu Shifeng raised an eyebrow at him.

“I mean, it’s late,” Jian Luo pointed at the clock, “You’ve had a long day. Shouldn’t you go back to rest?”

Lu Shifeng finally tasted the feeling of being shut out again after trying to eat closed doors.

Keeping a calm mind, he thought, at least that unfortunate main character in the novel was worse off than him.

Thinking of this, Lu Shifeng said, “I’m more worried about the kids.”

?

A question mark appeared over Jian Luo’s head.

“They’re next door, I want to stay here in case something happens and I can take care of it,” Lu Shifeng said nonchalantly, “You can sleep if you want, I’ll sleep on the sofa.”

?

Jian Luo, who was drinking water, accidentally choked upon hearing this. He coughed continuously and said, “Didn’t you just say there’s no need to worry?”

Lu Shifeng came over from the sofa and gently patted Jian Luo’s back, “Take it slow.”

Jian Luo’s face turned red from coughing.

When he turned his head, Jian Luo realized that Lu Shifeng was too close to him. The man’s handsome face loomed large in front of him, his ruby-like eyes calm and profound, staring at him. His voice was magnetic and charming, “I know you’re worried, so I’ll watch over them for you. Go to sleep.”

Because they were so close, Jian Luo could smell his familiar scent.

For some reason, Jian Luo blushed, and the atmosphere inexplicably became ambiguous. Jian Luo stuttered, “But you worked so hard during the day, it’s too much for you to sleep on the sofa and stay up late. Maybe… you should go back.”

How could Lu Shifeng go back? He moved closer, taking advantage of Jian Luo’s softened attitude, somewhat suggestive, “We used to…”

*Ding*

A knock on the door interrupted their conversation completely.

Long Autian’s voice rang crisply from outside, “Dad!”

His sister’s voice was soft, “Dad, open the door. We’re back.”

The children’s voices from outside were clear and vivid.

Jian Luo pushed Lu Shifeng away without mercy, nearly knocking him off the sofa with the force of his excitement, “The kids are back!”
