The Capture Target Came Out Wrong

Chapter 89

This summer holiday, Zhan Weiyang slept in every day and read books in the afternoon. If Pei Qing didn’t work overtime, he would go to Pei Qing for dinner from time to time. Pei Qing would take him to play around on weekends. This was probably the most fulfilling summer vacation Zhan Weiyang had since he started middle school.

Pei Qing liked to see exhibitions—all kinds of exhibitions, and Zhan Weiyang would accompany him regardless of whether he was interested or not. He happily followed Pei Qing, looking at things that he didn’t understand.

Pei Qing also often took Zhan Weiyang to eat delicious food. This confused Zhan Weiyang, and he asked Pei Qing, “Aren’t we very poor?”

Pei Qing said, “Yes, I spent all my money on you to eat meat.”

Zhan Weiyang looked at the meat in the bowl and felt guilty. He said, “Then I won’t eat meat.”

Pei Qing said, “That won’t work. If you don’t eat meat and lose weight, gege will feel bad.”

Zhan Weiyang struggled internally and felt he still wanted to eat meat, so he said, “Then you wait for me. I will definitely work hard to make money when I start working.”

Pei Qing smiled slightly and said, “Okay, so let’s eat meat first.”

Zhan Weiyang nodded shyly. He lowered his head a little embarrassedly and continued to eat.

A month passed in a blink of an eye, and Zhan Weiyang’s birthday was about to come.

Zhan Pengcheng asked him two or three days before his birthday, “How do you want to celebrate your birthday? Let’s go out for a good meal, okay?”

Zhan Weiyang fell into deep thought and did not respond to Zhan Pengcheng in time.

Zhan Pengcheng thought it might be because he wasn’t appealing enough, so he added, “How about we invite Qing gege to join us?”

Zhan Weiyang still did not answer. He actually wanted to spend the day with Pei Qing.

Zhan Weiguang was sitting next to him, initially looking at his phone while eating, and then he looked up at Zhan Weiyang.

Zhan Pengcheng was a little anxious, and he asked Zhan Weiyang, “Then how do you want to spend the day, tell Dad!”

Zhan Weiyang was a little reluctant to reject Zhan Pengcheng directly, and he said, “I don’t know.”

Zhan Pengcheng then said, “Then don’t worry, think about it again. Dad will make time that day, and Dad will accompany you wherever you want to go, okay?”

       Zhan Weiyang nodded reluctantly.

That night, Zhan Weiyang lay on the bed and called Pei Qing to tell him about this.

Pei Qing had just got off work and was waiting for the bus on the roadside. He stood in a corner with his cell phone, and beside him was a bright and hot advertising sign. He said, “Is that so? Then I’ll treat your Dad and your brother to a meal.”

“Hm?” Zhan Weiyang, who had been somewhat absent-minded, immediately looked up upon hearing his words and asked in confusion, “What?”

Pei Qing said, “I said I’ll treat you to a meal on your birthday.”

Zhan Weiyang supported his body with his hands, sat cross-legged on the bed, and asked Pei Qing in surprise, “Do you want Dad and Zhan Weiguang to go?”

At this time, the bus Pei Qing was waiting for came. He got on the bus, walked to the back seat and sat down. He continued to say to Zhan Weiyang, “Don’t you want to have dinner with them?”

Zhan Weiyang whispered, “I think we can have dinner with Dad and the others a day in advance, and then we can have dinner together on the birthday.” This was the result of his consideration for a night, and he felt that this approach would not hurt Zhan Pengcheng’s feelings.

Pei Qing smiled silently and then said to Zhan Weiyang, “There are many opportunities for us to have dinner together. I think turning eighteen is a very important day, and I need to explain it to your father.”

       “Explain?” Zhan Weiyang asked doubtfully.

Pei Qing said, “Yes, it’s a very important day, suitable for doing important things.”

Zhan Weiyang had a vague feeling, and he suddenly lowered his voice and asked mysteriously, “Are you going to tell my father?”

Pei Qing smiled and said nothing.

Zhan Weiyang blinked and said, “I understand.”

Pei Qing said, “Be good. I will arrange it when the time comes.”

On the night of Zhan Weiyang’s birthday, Pei Qing booked a Chinese restaurant with an elegant and quiet environment and invited Zhan Pengcheng and others to have dinner together.

Grandma didn’t go out. She had been having leg pain recently, and it was inconvenient for her to walk. She went to bed early at night and didn’t want to go out, so there were only Pei Qing and the Zhan family’s father and son.

When Zhan Pengcheng arrived, the first thing he said to Pei Qing was, “Uncle is treating tonight; don’t fight with me.”

Pei Qing asked him to sit down first and said, “I have already paid the deposit in advance. This meal should be my treat, don’t worry, Uncle.”

Zhan Pengcheng thought this was strange and said, “Why should it be your treat?”

Zhan Weiguang hadn’t said a word since he arrived at the restaurant. He had a very bad premonition, which made his scalp numb. When Pei Qing and Zhan Pengcheng were talking, Zhan Weiguang glanced at Zhan Weiyang and found that Zhan Weiyang was still silly and happy, which made him even more uneasy.

Although their seats were not private rooms, each table was separated by a booth, and the environment was relatively private and secluded.

The four people sat down, and Zhan Weiyang sat next to Pei Qing. Pei Qing had already ordered the dishes. After the waiter came up to pour tea, he served two plates of cold dishes and left.

Zhan Pengcheng was chatting with Pei Qing and asked him about his work. Pei Qing answered calmly.

Zhan Weiguang sat next to Zhan Pengcheng, feeling uneasy. He even had the urge to stop Pei Qing.

Zhan Pengcheng didn’t notice anything. He thought today was a good day, and he could drink a little.

As a result, Zhan Weiguang and Zhan Weiyang stopped him in unison and told him not to drink.

Zhan Pengcheng measured a small distance between his thumb and index finger and said, “A little bit.”

       “No!” Zhan Weiyang said.

Zhan Pengcheng had no choice but to say, “Today is your birthday, so you have the final say.”

       Zhan Weiyang was relieved.

Pei Qing picked up the teacup and said, “Today, we will use tea instead of wine to wish Yangyang a happy 18th birthday.”

The other people also picked up their teacups and clinked them in the air.

Zhan Weiyang said happily, “I’m finally eighteen years old!”

Zhan Weiguang said to him, “What’s good about being eighteen years old? Isn’t it good to be a child all your life?”

Zhan Weiyang looked at him, “Of course not. I’m not as naive as you.”

Zhan Weiguang endured it and decided not to argue with him.

At this time, the waiter began to serve hot dishes.

Pei Qing ordered most of the dishes that Zhan Weiyang liked. Everyone ate while chatting. Later, unable to resist Zhan Pengcheng’s repeated requests, the two sons reluctantly agreed to let him drink a bottle of beer.

When everyone was full of wine and food, Pei Qing said, “Uncle, I have something to tell you.”

Perhaps his tone was too serious. Zhan Pengcheng, who was originally joking with Zhan Weiyang, suddenly looked at him, his smile became shallow, and said, “Just tell Uncle if you have anything to say.” Zhan Pengcheng thought Pei Qing wanted his help with something.

Zhan Weiguang took a deep breath, unconsciously reached out to hold the teacup in front of him tightly, and anxiously rubbed the smooth cup with his fingers.

Pei Qing said, “Do you remember when I asked you what kind of person you hoped Yangyang would be with in the future?”

Zhan Pengcheng was a little surprised, “Why?”

Pei Qing continued, “You answered me at the time that you hoped it would be a kind person.”

Zhan Pengcheng glanced at Zhan Weiyang. His expression became serious, and he asked Pei Qing, “What’s the matter?”

Pei Qing said, “I hope you can agree to let me take care of Yangyang for the rest of his life.”

Chapter 88

They spent the entire afternoon in Zhan Weiguang’s room.

Zhan Weiguang wanted to play games, but Zhan Weiyang said he wanted to read and didn’t want to play with him, so Pei Qing sat down to play games with Zhan Weiguang.

Zhan Weiyang lay on Zhan Weiguang’s bed with a book spread out in front of him. While reading, he reached out to take the milk tea on the bedside table.

Zhan Weiguang saw it and said, “If you dare to dirty my bed, I will kill you.”

Zhan Weiyang looked at him, silently turned his back to him, and continued drinking the milk tea.

Pei Qing played the game a little carelessly. He received WeChat messages from work from time to time and often had to stop to reply to WeChat.

Zhan Weiguang felt very strange, “Didn’t you just join the company? Why are you so busy?”

Pei Qing replied, “It was originally the company where I interned before. They are all familiar colleagues and familiar working environments. It’s easier to get started.”

After that, his mobile phone rang, so he took the mobile phone out to answer a call.

When Pei Qing came back to Zhan Weiguang’s room, he found Zhan Weiyang lying on the bed and had fallen asleep.

Zhan Weiguang turned down the volume of the game, walked to the bed, pulled open the quilt and put it on his chest, his expression full of complaints.

Pei Qing whispered, “You slept for so long in the morning. Why are you sleeping again?”

Zhan Weiguang said, “He sleeps late every night, so he is used to taking a nap.”

Pei Qing thought for a while and said, “That’s why he’s still just a kid with a mind that’s completely pure and free of worries. He sleeps well every day too.”

Zhan Weiguang looked at him strangely.

       Pei Qing said, “What’s wrong?”

Zhan Weiguang glanced at the sleeping Zhan Weiyang again and said to Pei Qing, “Can we go out and talk?”

       Pei Qing nodded.

The two left the room and came to the corridor. There was no air conditioning outside. The afternoon sun shone directly through the window, and their body suddenly felt the temperature’s heat.

Zhan Weiguang didn’t get an answer to his question in the morning, so he still wanted to ask Pei Qing, and he also wanted to add Pei Qing’s words just now, he said, “Since you think Zhan Weiyang is like a child, why can you still date him?”

Pei Qing smiled and answered naturally, “Because he is not a child after all.”

Zhan Weiguang said, “I still don’t understand.”

Pei Qing said, “If you don’t understand, don’t think about it. Just know that I am serious about Yangyang.”

Zhan Weiguang looked at him and said nothing.

Pei Qing was silent for a while and said, “If you must ask, it’s that I need to feel needed by others.”

Zhan Weiguang tried to understand Pei Qing’s words and blurted out, “Do you want to raise a son?”

Pei Qing couldn’t help laughing and said, “Don’t let your father hear this.”

“You dare to say that about my father!” Zhan Weiguang said, “Have you ever thought about his reaction when the time comes?”

Pei Qing said, “I have thought about all the consequences. It doesn’t matter. It’s just an experience that you always need to face.”

Zhan Weiguang said, “I’m afraid you can’t make it.”

“You can always make it,” Pei Qing looked out the window, “When you think you can’t make it, just imagine the future and grit your teeth to get through it. Don’t limit yourself to the pain in front of you. Look at your brother, how hard he works to get into a good university.”

Zhan Weiguang said, “Okay, as long as you think you can.”

Pei Qing looked at him, “In fact, I didn’t expect you to be able to accept it. I thought it would be more difficult.”

This time, Zhan Weiguang was silent for a while, and he said earnestly, “I was thinking before, do I have the qualification to oppose Zhan Weiyang’s relationship?”

Pei Qing did not say anything.

Zhan Weiguang said, “I don’t think I am.”

Pei Qing hesitated momentarily and said, “I don’t think we should say whether we have the right to object. It is understandable that you and Uncle are concerned and even interfere with Yangyang’s relationship.” At this point, he paused before continuing, “But I will tell him not to listen.”

       Zhan Weiguang cursed.

Pei Qing smiled and said, “Human emotions can be understood by each other. I will sympathise with your thoughts, but sympathy does not mean blind obedience.”

Zhan Weiguang said, “I know.” He lowered his gaze and said softly, “If it weren’t for me, Zhan Weiyang wouldn’t be like this now. I hope he can be happy in the future.”

It was the first time Pei Qing heard Zhan Weiguang say such a thing. He said, “It’s not because of you. You were also a child at that time.”

Zhan Weiguang said, “If I didn’t fight with others—”

“Weiguang,” Pei Qing interrupted him, “There are no ‘ifs.’ If your uncle hadn’t taken you swimming that day, if Yangyang had stayed close to him… None of that matters. What’s done is done, and you have to accept it. Living in guilt and self-blame won’t change anything.”

Zhan Weiguang raised his hand to cover his face and said, “Qing ge, there’s something I’ve never said before. I often think that I am responsible for Zhan Weiyang and should take care of him for his whole life. But if he stays with me for his whole life, neither of us will be happy. So, I’m grateful for your presence.” He paused, and because his hand was covering his face, his expression was hidden, but his voice was choked with emotion when he continued speaking, “I just hope you’re truly sincere with Zhan Weiyang and that he’s truly sincere with you, that you both can be happy together. It’s not that I want to get rid of him; I just don’t want to see him as a burden. I believe he shouldn’t be a burden.”

“Of course he is not a burden, “Pei Qing said, “You can rest assured. I’m sincere, and I am very happy to be with him.”

After Zhan Weiguang finished speaking, Pei Qing noticed that he still hadn’t calmed down from his emotional state. Pei Qing raised his hand and patted Zhan Weiguang’s back, saying, “Why are you acting like a child too?”

Zhan Weiguang said, “These are things I can’t say, to anyone. Do you understand?”

Pei Qing hugged him and comforted him, “I understand.”

At this time, the door was suddenly opened from the inside.

Zhan Weiyang poked his head out with messy hair. Just as he was about to speak, he was stunned when he saw Pei Qing hugging Zhan Weiguang.

Zhan Weiguang’s first reaction was to stand up straight, wipe his face with his hand and walk away. He really didn’t want to lose face in front of Zhan Weiyang.

Zhan Weiyang, however, kept staring at the two of them, and after a while, he came over, pulled Pei Qing’s sleeve, and said, “Let’s go down.”

Pei Qing replied, “Okay, let’s go down.”

Zhan Weiyang grabbed Pei Qing’s hand with one hand, held his book with the other, and pulled Pei Qing downstairs together. When he reached the stairs, he turned around again and looked at Zhan Weiguang angrily.

Zhan Weiguang was in no mood to care about these things, so he went straight into the bathroom and turned on the cold water to wash his face.

Zhan Weiyang was still unhappy until he returned to his room. He asked Pei Qing, “Why did you hug Zhan Weiguang?”

Pei Qing said, “I just saw him crying and comforted him.”

Zhan Weiyang sat on the bed and said angrily, “You can’t hug him too!”

Pei Qing squatted in front of him and looked up at him, “I just hugged him a little.”

       Zhan Weiyang said, “No!”

Pei Qing nodded, “Okay, I won’t do it again in the future.”

Zhan Weiyang was still unhappy, but he couldn’t help but be curious and asked, “Why did Zhan Weiguang cry again?”

       “Again?” Pei Qing was surprised.

Zhan Weiyang nodded, with a tone of disdain, “He cries more and more now.”

       Pei Qing said, “Well…”

Zhan Weiyang thought for a moment, looked at Pei Qing, and asked tentatively, “If Zhan Weiguang has no place to live in the future, can he live next door to us?”

At that moment, Pei Qing thought that if Zhan Weiguang knew that Zhan Weiyang cared about him so much, he might be moved to tears again. He smiled and said, “Sure.”

The author has something to say:
Doesn’t it look like He Shuhuan hugging a crying Ruping when Yiping discovers them?

Apparently, the author is talking about a scene from Romance in the Rain

Chapter 87

Pei Qing passed the company interview, and those two days were also the days of Zhan Weiyang’s final exam.

Since it was the same company where Pei Qing had previously interned, and he had performed exceptionally well during his internship, several people among the interviewers were familiar with him. Passing the interview was quite easy for him. Furthermore, as soon as he passed the interview, the company immediately offered him a contract and had him start taking over the work.

Pei Qing met Qin Yishan, whom he had not seen for half a year. Although the two had contact information, they had never contacted each other. It was probably last month that Pei Qing saw Qin Yishan had a boyfriend in the Moments.

This time, when Pei Qing came back, Qin Yishan took the time to treat him to a meal. They didn’t talk about feelings but about the company and work. Qin Yishan said that the manager valued Pei Qing very much and asked him to work hard and develop well.

“Thank you,” Pei Qing thanked her sincerely.

It was not until the weekend, when work was stable that Pei Qing bought some gifts to visit the elders at Zhan Weiyang’s home.

He arrived at around 10 am on a Saturday morning. Zhan Weiyang was still sleeping in and hadn’t gotten up.

Grandma always liked Pei Qing and was happy to see him. She took his hand and asked him to sit on the sofa, asking about his recent situation and his family situation.

Pei Qing patiently chatted with Grandma.

Zhan Pengcheng came over and sat down soon. He asked Pei Qing, “Have you really decided to come here to work?”

       Pei Qing nodded, “Yes, Uncle.”

Zhan Pengcheng smiled and said, “It’s good for young people to come out and try their luck, but the last time I talked to your father, he said he still hopes you can help him after graduation.”

“Actually, he doesn’t need my help. Right now, he is doing quite well running the company with Auntie; they are still young, and the two of them have a tacit understanding. They don’t need me,” Pei Qing said in a flat tone.

Zhan Pengcheng nodded, “But parents always want their children to be around.”

Pei Qing smiled and said, “Uncle, not every parent is as concerned about their children as you are.” He was speaking from the heart. After watching for so long, he knew that Zhan Pengcheng really gave 100% of his heart to Zhan Weiyang.

Zhan Pengcheng said, “My situation is special. For Weiguang, I have no objection if he wants to go out and explore the world, after all, he is a boy. For Weiyang, forget it; it is best for him to stay at home.”

At this point, Zhan Pengcheng paused for a moment and said to Pei Qing tentatively, “Yangyang said before that he wanted to take the entrance exam for C University. Can you help me persuade him not to go so far?”

Pei Qing asked, “Is Uncle confident that Yangyang can get into C University?”

Zhan Pengcheng suddenly sounded a little smug, “Yangyang has worked hard this semester, and his teacher said that he has made great progress. I don’t think it is impossible. What if he really gets in?”

Pei Qing thought to himself that only the biological parents could have such strong confidence. However, he maintained his composure and said, “If he get accepted, then go ahead. After all, it’s one of the top universities in the country.”

Zhan Pengcheng said, “I don’t think it’s a good idea. It’s still too far away.”

At this time, Zhan Weiguang walked down the stairs in slippers.

He was taken aback to see Pei Qing, “Qing ge, when did you come?”

His school had just been closed for the holiday, and he had just returned from school last night. It was quite late when he got home, and he fell asleep after taking a shower.

Before Pei Qing answered, Zhan Pengcheng said, “Your Qing ge came here to find a job.”

Zhan Weiguang looked at Pei Qing with a complicated expression.

Zhan Pengcheng said, “What are you doing standing there for? Go and have breakfast.” Then he stood up and said, “Yangyang should have breakfast too. If you keep sleeping, it’ll be noon already.” After that, he walked upstairs, apparently intending to wake Zhan Weiyang up.

Zhan Weiguang walked to the dining room, looked at Pei Qing halfway and said, “Have you had breakfast?”

       Pei Qing replied, “Yes.”

Zhan Weiguang asked, “Would you like to eat more?”

Pei Qing smiled, stood up from the sofa, and said to Grandma, “I’ll go and have something to eat with Weiguang.”

He followed Zhan Weiguang to the dining table and sat down. There were only two of them in the dining room. Auntie Luo quickly put Zhan Weiguang’s breakfast on the table and went to the kitchen to continue preparing lunch.

Zhan Weiguang waited until Auntie Luo left before grabbing Pei Qing’s wrist and saying, “Don’t tell me that your coming back has nothing to do with Zhan Weiyang!”

Pei Qing calmly glanced at his grabbed hand and said, “Of course it has something to do with it. Why are you so agitated?”

Zhan Weiguang was indeed a little agitated, but he still remembered to suppress his voice and said, “Have you thought it through? Is it really okay to decide so casually on such an important matter as work?”

Pei Qing said, “Is that important?”

Zhan Weiguang was stunned, “Isn’t it important?”

Pei Qing smiled, “It’s more important to come back to accompany Yangyang. If the job is not suitable, I can find another one.” But where in the world could he find another person who was as cute as Zhan Weiyang and so wholeheartedly devoted to him?

Zhan Weiguang couldn’t help but say, “Are you crazy?”

       Pei Qing didn’t say anything.

Zhan Weiguang said, “Can I ask you a question?”

Pei Qing looked at him, “What?”

Zhan Weiguang asked seriously, “What do you like about my brother?” He couldn’t figure it out.

Before Pei Qing answered this question, Zhan Weiyang had already run down from upstairs, rushed into the dining room happily, raised his hands and hugged Pei Qing, “Qing ge!”

Pei Qing patted him on the back, “Let’s go eat.”

At this time, Zhan Pengcheng also followed, Zhan Weiyang reluctantly let go, sat down in a convenient position for Pei Qing, reached out and took a bun to his mouth to eat.

Zhan Pengcheng sat down next to the dining table. He looked at Zhan Weiyang for a while and asked him, “Are you tired from the recent final exams?”

Zhan Weiyang turned his gaze from Pei Qing’s face to Zhan Pengcheng’s face and said strangely, “It’s alright.”

Zhan Pengcheng said, “Then why do you eat so much every day?”

Zhan Weiyang didn’t say anything but just secretly glanced at Pei Qing again.

After breakfast, Zhan Weiyang quietly told Pei Qing, “I’ll eat more meat while I’m at home, so I won’t have to eat meat in the future.”

Pei Qing smiled with his head down. When he raised his head, he pretended to be serious and said, “Then you must eat more and eat better.”

It was another summer vacation. Although it was just July, the weather in Chongfeng had already become hot. The bright sun outside made the plants lose their spirits.

After lunch, Pei Qing and Zhan Weiyang moved the fortune tree on the balcony to a place near the door where direct sunlight could be avoided.

Pei Qing hadn’t seen the fortune tree for half a year, and he felt that the tree had grown a little taller.

Zhan Weiyang seemed to have grown a little taller, but not much, about one centimetre.

Pei Qing said, “You grew taller together.”

Zhan Weiyang was very happy to hear this and said, “It is me.”

Pei Qing said, “Really? Why is it you?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “Our souls are connected.”

Pei Qing was quiet for a while and said, “Then we must protect it and let it grow tall and strong.”

At this time, Zhan Weiguang stood by the balcony door and shook the mobile phone in his hand, “Do you want milk tea? I’ll order takeout.”

Pei Qing raised his head and said to him, “I don’t drink it. You drink it.”

Zhan Weiguang raised his foot and gently kicked Zhan Weiyang’s butt, who was squatting on the ground, “Zhan Weiyang, what do you want to drink?”

       Zhan Weiyang said, “Oreo Boba.”

Zhan Weiguang expressed some annoyance, saying, “Another Oreo Boba, really?” Despite his words, he still ordered the milk tea that Zhan Weiyang wanted.

The author has something to say:
Although I said it’s almost finished, I don’t mean it would end right away. I’ll tell the story in its entirety

Chapter 86

After Chen Youyou left, Zhan Weiyang asked Pei Qing, “Where are we going to have dinner?”

Pei Qing raised his hand to wrap it around his shoulder, and the two left from the school gate.

“What do you want to eat?” Pei Qing asked.

Zhan Weiyang replied, “Anything is fine!” As long as he was with Pei Qing, Zhan Weiyang felt happy to eat anything; even if he were asked to go for a seafood noodle meal, he would think it was delicious!

Pei Qing said, “How about we buy some to take home and eat?”

“Take home and eat?” Zhan Weiyang thought that since Pei Qing said taking it home, it meant home with Grandma and Auntie Luo. However, he wanted to have a meal with Pei Qing, just the two of them.

Pei Qing said, “Go back to my place.”

Zhan Weiyang looked at him strangely. Pei Qing came here in the morning and rented a flat first. He didn’t have the confidence to say that he would definitely pass the interview, but he also sent his resume to other local companies. Whether he passed the interview this time or not, he planned to stay.

He wanted to live here. He couldn’t continue to live in the Zhan family, so he had to rent a house first.

Pei Jingrong was very angry about his choice and threatened to cut off his source of livelihood.

Pei Qing thought it was fine. He should have been independent and should not continue to spend the family’s money. It was just that he had no income for a while, and the rent was the living expenses he had saved before. He told Pei Jingrong that he would try to find a way to return the money to Pei Jingrong after his job was stable. Pei Jingrong was furious again but was persuaded by Zhan Yingfei.

Later, Zhan Yingfei privately told Pei Qing she would transfer some money. Pei Qing thanked her and refused. He came here today to pay the deposit and three months’ rent, and now he really didn’t have much money.

He rented a one-bedroom flat with only one bedroom, an open kitchen and a small dining table, which was only almost enough for two people to sit face to face.

Pei Qing put the bought dishes on the dining table and sat down to eat with Zhan Weiyang.

Zhan Weiyang ate a little carelessly and kept staring at Pei Qing.

Pei Qing said, “Why are you looking at me if you don’t eat well?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “I’ve been thinking about you for a long time. I have to take a good look at you today.”

Pei Qing picked up a piece of beef for him, “Then you can take your time to look at me. Anyway, I won’t leave in the future.”

“Huh?” Zhan Weiyang suddenly realised something, “You won’t leave in the future?”

       Pei Qing nodded.

Zhan Weiyang said, “If I get into C University, won’t we be separated again?”

Pei Qing put down her chopsticks, as if thinking seriously, and said to him, “Yes.”

Zhan Weiyang showed a panicked expression.

This semester, he studied very hard with the goal of getting into C University. Although his grades did not improve enough to allow him to enter C University after a semester, he made a lot of progress compared to before.

Even the homeroom teacher invited Zhan Pengcheng to the school to talk, saying that Zhan Weiyang had made great progress. If he had worked harder in the last year, he might have been able to get into university.

When Zhan Weiyang heard that Pei Qing was not going back, he panicked for a while, then reacted and said, “Then I won’t apply to C University.”

Pei Qing asked him, “What school does Yangyang want to apply to?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “I need to think about it.”

Pei Qing nodded, “It’s okay, think about it slowly.”

After dinner, Zhan Weiyang toured the small apartment Pei Qing had rented. As he walked around the place, he noticed that the new bedding Pei Qing had bought was still lying on the bed in the bedroom, not yet put in place.

Zhan Weiyang took the initiative to help Pei Qing make the bed.

The clean and soft plain new sheets were spread out neatly on the mattress. Zhan Weiyang couldn’t help but lie on his back and look at the bedroom.

The furniture in the room looked very simple. In addition to the bed, there were only bedside tables and wardrobes. The ceiling above was pure white, and a simple round small lamp in the middle was on, and the light was dazzling yellow.

Zhan Weiyang didn’t know why he liked this place very much. He lay on the bed and was reluctant to get up.

Until Pei Qing stretched out a hand to him.

Pei Qing asked, “Won’t you get up?”

Zhan Weiyang shook his head, “I won’t get up.”

Pei Qing asked him, “Going to sleep here today?”

Zhan Weiyang was very happy, “Is it okay?”

Pei Qing said, “No. Your father and grandmother will be worried.”

       Zhan Weiyang was very disappointed.

Pei Qing stretched out her hand in front of him, “Come on, get up, Yangyang.”

Zhan Weiyang slowly stretched out his hand and held Pei Qing’s hand, but he didn’t really get up; instead, he pulled Pei Qing hard.

Pei Qing was originally bending over the bed, and at this time, his center of gravity was unstable. He fell forward, almost falling on Zhan Weiyang. He supported his body with his hands on both sides of Zhan Weiyang’s head with his arms.

Zhan Weiyang looked at him with a smile, raised his hands to hug his neck, and said, “I want you to kiss me.”

Pei Qing heard this, lowered her head and kissed him lightly on the lips.

Zhan Weiyang said, “It’s not like that.”

Pei Qing teased him, “Like what?”

Zhan Weiyang didn’t know what to say, so he could only say, “Kiss again, not so fast.”

Pei Qing then lowered his head and kissed Zhan Weiyang on the lips again, but this time he didn’t leave immediately.

Zhan Weiyang tried to deepen the kiss by imitating the way Pei Qing kissed him before.

Pei Qing knelt on the bed with one leg, reached out to hug Zhan Weiyang’s back, picked him up and sat on his legs, kissing him.

Zhan Weiyang thought it was very interesting, and hugged Pei Qing’s neck tightly, and was reluctant to let go for a long time.

Later, he leaned close to Pei Qing’s ear and whispered, “I will be eighteen next month.”

Pei Qing nodded and asked him, “What birthday gift do you want?”

Zhan Weiyang was a little anxious, “That’s not what I meant.”

Pei Qing smiled lightly and said, “What what do you mean?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “You said that you can have sex at the age of eighteen!”

Pei Qing said, “I said so.”

Zhan Weiyang looked at him with great interest.

Pei Qing let go of his hand, let him sit down on the bed, and said to him, “Being eighteen is acceptable, but there are other necessary conditions as well. It’s not something that can just be done on a whim.”

Zhan Weiyang thought about it and was a little worried, “Will you not be interested in me?”

Pei Qing looked at him for a while, “I really don’t know how to answer your question.”

Zhan Weiyang became nervous; he stood up from the bed, raised his hand and started to take off his clothes.

Pei Qing quickly stood up and hugged him to stop him, smiling, “What are you doing?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “Don’t you want to take a look? What if you are very interested?”

Pei Qing said, “I am already very interested.” After that, Pei Qing suddenly felt a little worried, “Don’t take off your clothes in front of others in the future. Do you hear me?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “I won’t take off my clothes in front of others.”

Pei Qing didn’t let Zhan Weiyang stay too late. He didn’t have a car now, and he didn’t have much money to take a taxi at will. He accompanied Zhan Weiyang to take the bus to send him home.

When waiting for the bus at the bus stop, Pei Qing suddenly felt a little emotional. He asked Zhan Weiyang, “If I am very poor in the future, will you feel wronged following me?”

Zhan Weiyang asked him, “How poor?”

Pei Qing couldn’t help but laugh and said, “I can’t afford meat, and I can’t afford a car.”

Zhan Weiyang was surprised and said, “We can’t even afford meat?”

       Pei Qing nodded seriously.

Zhan Weiyang raised his hand and touched his head nervously. After a while, he comforted Pei Qing and said, “It’s okay, I can lose weight.”

After that, he grabbed Pei Qing’s hand nervously, “I will eat very little, please don’t abandon me.”

Pei Qing smiled and said, “Okay, I will definitely not abandon you, and I will try my best to buy you meat, okay?”

Chapter 85

Pei Qing had returned to school for a few months and waited until he officially graduated before going home for the first time. He gave away all the other things in the school dormitory that he could, and there were not many important things left, so he only packed a large suitcase.

It was already evening when he got home. Pei Jingrong and Zhan Yingfei were not at home. Zhan Xueqing’s school had not yet had a holiday, and she would not come back because of the final exams.

He dragged the suitcase into his room and saw that the things in the room were neatly packed and the desk was spotless. He stood the suitcase against the wall and lay down on the new bed sheet without a wrinkle.

Since Zhan Pengcheng was sick and hospitalised, Pei Qing had not had time to go back to see Zhan Weiyang in the past six months but just video chatted with him every night.

Compared with Zhan Weiyang’s dependence on him, Pei Qing sometimes felt that he was the one who could not live without Zhan Weiyang. He needed the feeling of being relied on, which would make his existence meaningful.

Pei Qing lay on the bed until after eight o’clock in the evening when Pei Jingrong and Zhan Yingfei came back from outside.

As soon as Zhan Yingfei got home, she noticed someone was back. She shouted, “Is Xueqing back?”

Pei Qing got up from the bed and left the room slowly, saying, “Dad, Auntie, it’s me.”

“Pei Qing!” Zhan Yingfei showed a surprised expression, “Is the school on vacation?”

Pei Jingrong looked serious, “Why didn’t you tell me you were back? How did you decide what I told you before?”

Pei Jingrong had been calling Pei Qing since two months ago to ask him about his work plans. Pei Jingrong was running his own company with Zhan Yingfei at the moment. After the start-up phase, it was now doing well. He hoped Pei Qing could go over to help him.

Pei Qing said, “I have submitted my resume to the company I want to go to, and I will go for an interview next week.”

Pei Jingrong frowned and said nothing. Zhan Yingfei noticed that Pei Jingrong was not happy, so he spoke to ease the atmosphere and asked, “Which company?”

Pei Qing said, “The one I interned at.”

Zhan Yingfei was a little surprised, “Are you planning to work at Chongfeng?”

       Pei Qing nodded.

Pei Jingrong said coldly, “Is this the decision you’ve been considering for two months?”

Pei Qing said to him, “No, this is my initial decision.”

“Pei Qing!” Pei Jingrong took two steps forward and was pulled back by Zhan Yingfei.

Zhan Yingfei said, “What are you doing? Talk to the child properly.”

Pei Jingrong said, “I’m talking to him properly.” But his tone was obviously not that nice.

Pei Qing was still very calm. He said to Pei Jingrong, “I am 22 years old, not 12. I already have my own job and will have my own life in the future. I don’t think there is anything wrong with my choice.”

Pei Jingrong said, “So you don’t need to discuss it with us? You want to live your own life. I raised you to this age. Don’t you have the obligation to explain to me?”

Pei Qing said, “I am back to explain now.”

“You call it an explanation?” Pei Jingrong couldn’t suppress his anger. “Aren’t you just simply notifying us?”

Zhan Yingfei was beside him, holding Pei Jingrong’s arm tightly, hoping that he could control his emotions.

Pei Qing said, “Because I know you will not agree, but even if you do not agree, I will still insist.”

       Pei Jingrong said angrily, “Bastard!”

Pei Qing sighed softly, leaned on the sofa, and said to Pei Jingrong, “Dad, I am not happy here.”

Pei Jingrong asked him, “Am I not good to you, or is your aunt not good to you?”

Pei Qing said, “You’re all great, and you have Xueqing. Wouldn’t it be better for you all to just be happy together? If I’m not happy, that’s my problem. There’s no need to force me to stay.”

When Pei Jingrong was about to speak, Zhan Yingfei said, “If the child wants to go out and try his luck, just let him go. Why do you have to keep him by your side? At this age, he is full of energy and should go out to gain experience.”

“But—” Pei Jingrong was still unwilling.

Zhan Yingfei interrupted him, “There’s no need to worry. It’s just a job, not something permanent. If it doesn’t go well or he’s unhappy, Pei Qing can still come back and help you out.” As she spoke, she pushed Pei Jingrong into the room, “You are all very emotional now. Let’s calm down and talk. There’s no need to rush.”

Pei Jingrong didn’t say anything else.

Zhan Yingfei said to Pei Qing when she passed by him, “Go and have a rest first. We can talk tomorrow if you have anything to say.”

Pei Qing said to Zhan Yingfei, “Auntie, I have bought a plane ticket for tomorrow.”

The next day was Friday, so Zhan Weiyang didn’t have to attend evening self-study. Although he didn’t have to attend every day, he tried studying at home for two weeks and realised he couldn’t understand the material on his own. So, he stayed at school for self-study sessions, where he could ask teachers or classmates for help with the problems he didn’t understand.

After knowing that Zhan Weiyang was going to study at night, Chen Youyou also studied at school every day. Because Zhan Weiyang’s deskmate was not there in the evening, he moved to sit next to Zhan Weiyang during self-study so that Zhan Weiyang could ask him questions that he couldn’t solve. Even though Chen Youyou wasn’t the most articulate, he could explain things to Zhan Weiyang by writing and drawing.

Zhan Weiyang said to Chen Youyou, “Youyou, you are so good.” He thought that if it weren’t for Pei Qing, he might fall in love with Chen Youyou.

Chen Youyou’s thoughts weren’t that complicated. If he went home in the evenings, his mom would just make him study anyway, so he figured he might as well stay at school. At least there, he could find some time to chat with Zhan Weiyang. So, he waved his hand and said, “I’ve, always been this, good of a person.”

After school in the afternoon, Zhan Weiyang and Chen Youyou left the school together.

Chen Youyou asked Zhan Weiyang, “How about having dinner together?”

Zhan Pengcheng would not be home for dinner today, and only Grandma and Auntie Luo were at home. Zhan Weiyang thought about it and felt that he could have dinner with Chen Youyou, but Chen Youyou had recently been obsessed with seafood noodles in a noodle shop. They had been there several times, but Chen Youyou still wanted to eat it, so Zhan Weiyang said first, “Okay, but I’m not eating seafood noodles.”

Chen Youyou was a little unhappy, “Then, what do you say to eat?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “I don’t know.” Anyway, he knew that he didn’t want to eat seafood noodles.

They walked to the school gate, and Zhan Weiyang suddenly saw a familiar figure standing under the big tree outside the gate.

It was already the end of June. Pei Qing wore a black short-sleeved T-shirt and long jeans. Compared with the last time he left, his hair was cut shorter and he was thinner. He smiled when he saw Zhan Weiyang.

Zhan Weiyang almost cried out in surprise, ran towards Pei Qing, and threw himself into Pei Qing’s arms.

At that time, Chen Youyou hadn’t reacted to what happened and stood there in a daze.

Pei Qing reached out and picked up Zhan Weiyang, both feet off the ground, gently putting him back, saying, “I’m picking you up from school.”

Zhan Weiyang was so happy that he was about to cry, and he hugged Pei Qing tightly regardless of whether there was anyone watching.

Pei Qing smiled and patted his head, “Okay, okay.”

After that, he greeted Chen Youyou, “Hello. Youyou.”

Chen Youyou came back to his senses, “Hello, Older cousin.”

Zhan Weiyang let go of Pei Qing after a while and said, “Why didn’t you tell me you were back?”

Pei Qing said, “It’s a surprise for you. I arrived in the morning and dealt with some things in the afternoon. I came directly to pick you up for dinner.”

       Zhan Weiyang nodded vigorously, “Dinner!”

Pei Qing was still thinking about Chen Youyou, “Youyou, do you want to go to dinner with us?”

Chen Youyou hesitated for a moment and said, “No, I, have to go home.”

Pei Qing didn’t force him, “Then you go back, be careful on the road.”

Chen Youyou nodded, “I’m going.” Seeing that Zhan Weiyang didn’t try to stop him, he pretended to walk towards the bus stop, changed direction halfway, and planned to eat seafood noodles alone. He still wanted to eat seafood noodles so much.

Chapter 84

After lunch, Zhan Pengcheng stood at the door of the second-floor balcony and watched Pei Qing and Zhan Weiyang plant trees together.

Both of them were very serious. Pei Qing even searched online for information on what to pay attention to when transplanting.

Zhan Pengcheng felt sleepy after watching for a while, so he went back to his room and lay down to take a nap.

When Zhan Weiyang bought a flower pot before, he chose a big flower pot that he could squat in. Now, when buying a tree, he chose a small tree. The two filled a whole flower pot with soil to plant the fortune tree, which looked even more compact in the big flower pot.

Pei Qing asked him, “Why buy such a small one?” They could just buy a big fortune tree and plant it in this flower pot.

Zhan Weiyang did not answer but asked, “Will it grow up?”

Pei Qing said, “Of course it will grow up; it will grow up with Yangyang.”

Zhan Weiyang nodded, “I’m afraid it will grow too big, and the flower pot will not fit.”

Pei Qing reached out and patted his shoulder, “Now it won’t be too big to fit.”

       Zhan Weiyang agreed, “Yeah.”

The fortune tree was moved to the best position on the balcony, which was the position Zhan Weiyang had chosen for himself before, where he could get the morning sun and see the fountain in the neighbourhood.

When the wind blew, the bright green leaves of the fortune tree trembled slightly, but they clung tightly to the thriving and round trunk, growing vigorously like another life of Zhan Weiyang.

Surrounding the fortune tree were other potted plants, and there were a few pots of brightly coloured flowers that Zhan Pengcheng had just bought from the flower market today.

No one would be lonely here.

Zhan Weiyang sat on the guardrail at the edge of the balcony facing inward.

Pei Qing stood in front of him, held his hand and said to him, “Yangyang, I will go back to school in two days.”

Zhan Weiyang didn’t say anything, but the smile on his face became a little fainter.

Pei Qing didn’t say anything either; just looked at him.

After a while, Zhan Weiyang said, “You have to go back to school and graduate.”

Pei Qing smiled and nodded, “Yes, Yangyang is very sensible.”

Zhan Weiyang held Pei Qing’s hand tightly and said, “Wait for me, okay?”

“Hmm?” Pei Qing was a little unsure of what he meant.

Zhan Weiyang said a little anxiously, “I will take the college entrance examination next year. Can I come to see you?”

Pei Qing asked him, “Which university do you want to apply to?” There were many schools in the city where he studied and lived.

Zhan Weiyang had no idea at all, and he said uncertainly, “C University?”

Pei Qing smiled when he heard this. Zhan Weiyang would definitely not be able to get into C University with his current grades. However, he still encouraged him, “Okay, then you should aim for C University and work hard to get in, okay?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “Okay! Then you must wait for me!”

Pei Qing smiled and lowered his head. After a while, he gently rested his forehead on Zhan Weiyang’s soft belly.

Zhan Weiyang lowered his eyes to look at him and asked a little worriedly, “What’s wrong?” He raised his hand to hug Pei Qing’s head, touched his hair anxiously, and asked, “Do you have no confidence in me?”

Pei Qing hugged his waist and said, “No, I just want to hug you.”

Zhan Weiyang said, “Well, everything will get better and better.”

Zhan Weiyang didn’t know whether this sentence was said to comfort Pei Qing or to comfort himself.

On the day Pei Qing left, he did not chase the car in his pyjamas in a daze. Instead, he woke up early with an alarm clock, followed Zhan Pengcheng and the others to the door of his house, and watched Pei Qing get in the car.

Zhan Pengcheng drove, and Pei Qing said to Zhan Weiyang through the lowered car window, “Go back and have breakfast.”

Zhan Weiyang still had to go to class today.

Zhan Weiyang was actually still sad. He waved at Pei Qing, trying not to look so sad.

Life was about growing through experiences, one after another, just like the time he couldn’t catch up to that car or the night he took Zhan Pengcheng to the hospital all by himself. After going through it, he realised it hadn’t been as frightening as he had thought. Pei Qing would not leave and never come back. When he needed him, Pei Qing still returned to his side.

From the day Zhan Weiyang made up his mind to take the C University entrance exam, he began to study hard.

Every day in class, Zhan Weiyang stared at the blackboard and listened to the teacher’s lectures without blinking. However, he could only understand about 50% of the content in one class.

After class, he had no time to chat with Chen Youyou. He concentrated on reading to understand what the teacher taught in class. If he really didn’t understand, he would ask Chen Youyou.

Chen Youyou thought he was strange and asked him, “Are, you crazy?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “No, I just don’t have a good brain, I’m not crazy.”

Chen Youyou asked him, “Why, are you so, serious all of, a sudden?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “I want to take the C University entrance exam.”

As soon as he finished this sentence, the girls at the same table couldn’t help but turn their heads to look at him.

Chen Youyou looked puzzled, “Huh? Seriously?”

       Zhan Weiyang said, “Yes, seriously.”

       Chen Youyou didn’t understand, “Why?”

Zhan Weiyang didn’t say anything. He casually drew on the draft book with a pen. After a while, his eyes lit up, and he thought of a good answer: because of love.

Zhan Pengcheng also found that Zhan Weiyang had been studying very hard recently.

He went into Zhan Weiyang’s room at almost ten o’clock in the evening and saw that he was still sitting at the desk studying hard, so he sat down by the bed and said, “Yangyang, Grandma will be back in two days.”

Zhan Weiyang took the time to say ‘En’ to indicate that he heard it.

Zhan Pengcheng sat for a while. Seeing that Zhan Weiyang ignored him, he couldn’t help but say, “Do you want to chat with Dad for a while?”

Zhan Weiyang finally looked at him and said, “Dad, don’t disturb me while I study.”

Zhan Pengcheng asked him, “Then until what time do you want to study?”

Zhan Weiyang looked at the time and replied, “Twelve o’clock.”

Zhan Pengcheng immediately said, “It’s too late. You are still growing, you can only grow taller when you fall asleep, don’t study so late.”

Zhan Weiyang said, “But I can’t understand the class or the book. How can I get into C University?”

“Ah?” Zhan Pengcheng stood up from the bed, “You want to go to the C University? Why do you want to go to the C University?”

       Zhan Weiyang didn’t answer him.

Zhan Pengcheng thought for a moment and said, “Because Pei Qing is in C University?”

Zhan Weiyang then said ‘En’ softly.

Zhan Pengcheng felt that his son was too dependent on Pei Qing and walked back and forth a few steps by the bed with some anxiety. Then he walked behind Zhan Weiyang and said, “It’s useless for you to apply to C University. Pei Qing will graduate this year, and he won’t be there when you go to study next year.”

Zhan Weiyang looked at Zhan Pengcheng and began to look uneasy.

Zhan Pengcheng put his hands on his shoulders, “Don’t go to C University. If you really want to go to college, go to a local university. You don’t have to live on campus and can go home to sleep every day.”

Zhan Weiyang was very entangled. He said, “What about Qing ge?”

“What do you mean what about Qing ge? Pei Qing is someone else’s child. Do you still want to follow him?”

Zhan Weiyang suddenly became anxious, “I want to follow him all the time.”

Zhan Pengcheng asked him, “What if Pei Qing gets married? Can you still follow him?”

Zhan Weiyang stood up from the chair and said very unhappily, “Qing ge will not get married.”

Zhan Pengcheng said this just to tease him, but when he saw that he was really unhappy, he suddenly felt a little complicated.

Zhan Weiyang then said, “Dad, you are a bit noisy.”

Zhan Pengcheng’s heart skipped a beat. It was the first time he was disliked by his youngest son.

Zhan Weiyang said again, “You’re disturbing my study.”

Zhan Pengcheng held back his sadness and asked him, “Do you want Dad to go out?”

Zhan Weiyang lowered his head and scratched the back of the chair with his fingers without saying anything.

Zhan Pengcheng left Zhan Weiyang’s room, reached out and gently closed the door for him, sighed deeply, and walked towards his room.

Chapter 83

Pei Qing and Zhan Weiguang both asked for leave from the school.

Zhan Weiyang had to go back to school on Monday, and Pei Qing and Zhan Weiguang took turns to accompany Zhan Pengcheng in the hospital.

Zhan Pengcheng disagreed at first and asked Zhan Weiguang to hire a nurse directly, thinking that there was no need to trouble Pei Qing.

Zhan Weiguang was a little hesitant, and he asked Pei Qing what he thought.

Pei Qing said to him, “There is no need to hire a nurse. I asked for a week’s leave from the school, and I have already come here. So I can’t take a plane back immediately.”

       Zhan Weiguang didn’t say anything.

Pei Qing saw Zhan Weiguang’s expression of wanting to say something but not being able to and asked him, “Why? What do you want to say?”

Zhan Weiguang whispered, “Are you going to tell Dad about you and Zhan Weiyang?”

Pei Qing smiled and asked him, “What do you think? Is it appropriate to tell him now?”

Zhan Weiguang considered it seriously and said, “No, my dad is not in good health now.”

Pei Qing said, “Isn’t that good for me? He doesn’t have the strength to chase me and beat me.”

Zhan Weiguang said, “Don’t joke about that.”

Pei Qing smiled and said, “Don’t worry, I will wait until the time is right.”

In the evening, when Zhan Weiguang took Zhan Weiyang home, Zhan Pengcheng and Pei Qing were left in the hospital ward.

Zhan Pengcheng felt that it was inconvenient for Pei Qing to take care of him, so he tried his best not to go to the bathroom when he was receiving an IV.

After dinner, the two sat and chatted for a while, and when the doctor came to the ward, it was almost time to go to bed.

After all, the hospital was noisy. Pei Qing lay on a single bed, which he couldn’t turn over, with his arms under his head, staring at the ceiling and thinking.

Actually, he seriously considered whether to tell Zhan Pengcheng about his relationship with Zhan Weiyang, but later, he felt that the timing was not right. When would the best time be? Pei Qing himself couldn’t tell clearly. Maybe there was no so-called best time. No matter when it was said, it would be a storm, and he must stand in front to bear it.

Of course, choosing a better time might reduce the harm to others.

The new patient in the next bed made a loud cry.

Pei Qing heard Zhan Pengcheng tossing and turning and seemed unable to sleep, so he turned over in the small bed and lay on his side.

“Pei Qing,” Zhan Pengcheng suddenly called him softly.

Pei Qing raised his head, “Uncle?”

Zhan Pengcheng said, “Do you think it’s good if Yangyang is not allowed to go to college?”

Pei Qing asked, “Then what should he do?”

Zhan Pengcheng sighed. He had been thinking about this for a long time, but he couldn’t find anyone to talk to, and he couldn’t get any suitable advice. He said, “I don’t know. I just think that he can’t get into a good university. Those messy third-rate schools are not good. I’m afraid he will be bullied.”

Pei Qing didn’t say anything. From the bottom of his heart, he certainly hoped that Zhan Weiyang could go to college, get in touch with different people, and get familiar with this society, but at the same time, he knew that what Zhan Pengcheng said made sense. Zhan Weiyang couldn’t go to a good university, and a bad environment would have a great impact on him.

Pei Qing was silent for a while and then asked Zhan Pengcheng softly, “Uncle, have you ever thought about what Yangyang should do even if he graduates from university?”

Zhan Pengcheng said, “Just stay at home. I will save enough money and let him live happily all his life.”

Pei Qing asked for the first time, “Do you want him to get married?”

Zhan Pengcheng said, “If there is a suitable girl—” He paused, turned over in bed and faced Pei Qing’s direction, “It’s not that I don’t want him to get married, I’m just afraid that those girls have impure minds. I can still take care of him while I’m alive. If I’m gone, it will be troublesome if he is bullied by others.”

Pei Qing asked, “Do you think there will be no one who really likes Yangyang?”

Zhan Pengcheng said, “Of course there will be. Yangyang is so nice; there must be someone who really likes him. The problem is that there’s no way for us to tell, and hearts change.”

Both of them fell silent. After a while, Pei Qing asked, “If there is someone who is sincere to him, what kind of person do you hope that person is?”

“What kind of person?” Zhan Pengcheng thought this question was a bit strange and said, “I hope it is a kind person.”

       Pei Qing said, “That simple?”

Zhan Pengcheng said, “If he is kind by nature, even if the love fades in the future, he won’t get hurt, right?”

Then, the two did not say anything else.

After two or three days, Auntie Luo returned from her hometown, and Zhan Pengcheng was discharged from the hospital.

Zhan Weiguang was a freshman with a tight schedule. After Zhan Pengcheng was discharged from the hospital, he immediately went back to school. Pei Qing had nothing to do at school, so he stayed and did not leave for the time being.

Zhan Weiyang was the happiest when he saw that his life was back on track. His favourite thing every day was to tell Zhan Pengcheng not to drink. After Zhan Pengcheng returned home, he did not rush to work but recuperated at home, eating three meals a day very healthily and not drinking a drop of alcohol.

Because Zhan Weiyang was in a good mental state, Pei Qing accompanied him to a follow-up examination. The doctor said that he could stop taking the medicine temporarily and let his family closely observe him. If he displayed any symptoms, he could come back for a follow-up examination immediately.

Zhan Weiyang stopped taking the medicine on Friday. The next morning, when he was having breakfast in the dining room, Pei Qing asked him, “Did you sleep well last night?”

He nodded and said that he slept well.

Pei Qing did not ask him if he had heard any noises. Instead, he peeled an egg for him and asked him, when he handed it to him, “Do you remember your flower pot?”

Zhan Weiyang took the egg and nodded, “Of course I remember.”

Pei Qing said, “Have you ever thought that you would not become a fortune tree and that your flower pot would be very lonely in the future?”

Zhan Weiyang took a bite of the egg and looked at Pei Qing, “It seems so. What should we do?”

Pei Qing said, “Why don’t we go buy a fortune tree and plant it?”

Zhan Weiyang suddenly opened his eyes wide and nodded vigorously.

They planned to go to the flower market in the morning to buy fortune trees. Zhan Pengcheng was bored at home and was excited to go with them.

Pei Qing couldn’t refuse, so he drove Zhan Pengcheng and Zhan Weiyang out.

When they arrived at the flower market, Zhan Pengcheng said, “You can choose whatever you want. Dad will pay for it after you choose.”

Zhan Weiyang didn’t say anything. He reached out, grabbed Pei Qing’s sleeve, and led him forward. They went into a shop that sold money trees. The store had both large and small ones, and Zhan Weiyang carefully inspected them one by one.

Pei Qing waited patiently by his side for him.

Zhan Pengcheng said to Zhan Weiyang, “Yangyang, why don’t you buy a potted flower? The pink flower is beautiful.”

Zhan Weiyang looked at Zhan Pengcheng unhappily.

Pei Qing said, “Let him take his time to choose.”

Zhan Weiyang looked over carefully and even touched the leaves and trunk with his hands. Sometimes, he got close as if he was whispering to the tree.

Zhan Pengcheng had already gone to the stall next door, leaving Pei Qing waiting for him outside.

Zhan Weiyang spent more than ten minutes selecting, and stopped in front of a small tree, turning back to look at Pei Qing.

Pei Qing asked him, “This one?”

       Zhan Weiyang nodded shyly.

Pei Qing whispered, “Gege will buy it for you.”

       Zhan Weiyang smiled immediately.

On the way back, Pei Qing drove, and Zhan Pengcheng and Zhan Weiyang sat in a row. He heard Zhan Weiyang humming softly, so he asked, “Is Yangyang happy?”

Zhan Weiyang looked at him and said, “Happy.”

Zhan Pengcheng didn’t get to buy a fortune tree for Zhan Weiyang, so he picked several pots of flowers, bought them together, and brought them back. Now, they were all in the back of the SUV.

He didn’t understand what attracted Zhan Weiyang to the fortune tree besides its nice name. He wanted to know more about his son and asked, “Why are you so happy?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “My flower pot will no longer be alone on the balcony.”

Zhan Pengcheng thought for a moment and said, “The flower pot must be really happy.”

Zhan Weiyang tilted his head and looked at him, “Dad, what are you talking about?”

Zhan Pengcheng was stunned by the question and said, “Didn’t you say the flower pot is happy?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “I said I’m the one that’s happy.”

“Oh— Yangyang is happy,” Zhan Pengcheng sighed secretly, not knowing how to continue the conversation with Zhan Weiyang, so he could only reach out and touch his head, saying, “Then Dad is happy too.”

Notes:
It’s just like Weiguang said before, Zhang Pengcheng is not really seeing Yanyang properly. I feel like he’s just treating Yangyang as some kind of idiot son and won’t see the potential in him simply because he doesn’t expect Yangyang to have one

Chapter 82

Zhan Weiguang arrived at the hospital in the afternoon. Zhan Weiyang hadn’t remembered to inform him, but Pei Qing had.

When he came, Zhan Pengcheng had just woken up, so he sat by the bed, looked at Zhan Pengcheng, and said seriously, “Can you drink less?”

Before Zhan Pengcheng spoke, Pei Qing, who was standing beside him, said, “Do you think your father wants to?”

Zhan Weiguang turned around and said angrily, “He usually doesn’t drink less either!” After saying that, Zhan Weiguang also felt that his tone was too heavy. He stood up and silently helped Zhan Pengcheng tidy up the quilt.

Zhan Pengcheng saw that Zhan Weiyang looked a little nervous, so he said to him, “Your gege is going to cry in anger.”

“I didn’t!” Zhan Weiguang said with red eyes.

Zhan Pengcheng said again, “Okay, okay. Dad will drink less in the future and not make my good son angry.”

Zhan Weiguang frowned, “Don’t talk to me like that, I’m not Zhan Weiyang.”

Since Zhan Weiguang came, Zhan Weiyang, who had been watching Zhan Pengcheng all night without sleeping, could go back to rest.

Zhan Pengcheng urged Pei Qing to take Zhan Weiyang back to rest.

Zhan Weiguang glanced at them and said, “Qing ge, you take Zhan Weiyang back, I’ll be here tonight.”

Pei Qing nodded and said, “Then we’ll go back first.”

Back home, Zhan Weiyang took a hot bath first. He felt fine before taking a bath, but after taking a bath, he couldn’t hold on. A strong drowsiness swept over him, and he almost fell asleep on the bed immediately.

His hair was still wet, Pei Qing sat on the edge of the bed, let him lie on his lap, and blow dry his hair.

Zhan Weiyang listened to the buzzing sound of the hair dryer and fell asleep halfway through the blow-drying process.

Later, Pei Qing felt that Zhan Weiyang’s hair was dry, put the hair dryer aside, gently helped him up, and held him on his back on the bed.

       Zhan Weiyang never woke up.

Pei Qing covered him with a quilt, then sat by the bed and looked at him quietly for a long time before getting up and leaving.

Zhan Weiyang slept from the afternoon to the next morning.

Pei Qing came to his room to see him around nine o’clock in the evening. He wanted to ask him if he was hungry or if he wanted to eat something, but when he saw that he had not woken up, he quietly left and closed the door.

The next morning, Zhan Weiyang woke up from the bed after sleeping enough.

He opened his eyes and didn’t know what time it was for a while. He only remembered that it was still bright when he fell asleep, and when he woke up, it was still bright.

He was the only one in the room.

Zhan Weiyang lifted the quilt and got out of bed. He raised his hand to scratch his messy hair and walked out of the room. He didn’t know where Pei Qing was, but subconsciously, he walked to the next room, stretched out his hand to turn the door, and looked inside.

The curtains in the room were closed and the light was dim. A person could be seen lying on the bed.

Zhan Weiyang walked over directly, took off his shoes, lifted Pei Qing’s quilt and crawled in.

Pei Qing was actually tired too. Zhan Weiyang hadn’t slept all night, so he hadn’t slept either. He bought a plane ticket late at night, rushed to the airport, and took the earliest flight back. Last night, he also fell asleep as soon as he lay down in the room when he came back. It wasn’t until now, until Zhan Weiyang snuggling into his blanket, that he finally woke up.

“Yangyang?” Pei Qing’s voice was slurred.

Zhan Weiyang crawled into his arms and reached out to hug him.

Pei Qing reluctantly opened his eyes and lowered his head. He kissed Zhan Weiyang’s forehead and said, “Awake?”

       Zhan Weiyang nodded.

Pei Qing asked him, “Have you slept enough?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “I think I have.”

Pei Qing smiled and said, “You think you have slept enough? Do you want to confirm it again?”

Zhan Weiyang asked, “How to confirm it?”

Pei Qing said to him, “Close your eyes and sleep for a while.”

Zhan Weiyang really closed his eyes, lay quietly for a while, then opened his eyes and said to Pei Qing with certainty, “I have slept enough.”

Pei Qing sat up and said to Zhan Weiyang, “Let’s go and make breakfast for you.”

Zhan Weiyang went to bed yesterday without even having dinner. He was very hungry now, so he followed Pei Qing to the kitchen.

Auntie Luo was away these days, and there was nothing much to eat in the kitchen. Pei Qing asked Zhan Weiyang if he wanted to eat fried egg noodles.

Zhan Weiyang came close to Pei Qing, nodded and said, “I want.”

While cooking noodles, Pei Qing asked Zhan Weiyang, “Were you scared that day?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “Yes, I was scared to death. I saw blood all over my father’s pillow, and I was so scared.”

Pei Qing asked him again, “What about going to the hospital afterwards?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “They asked me to pay the bill and said they would arrange for me to be hospitalised.”

Pei Qing put the cooked noodles into the bowl, put the fried egg on top, sprinkled chopped green onions, and asked, “Did you go alone?”

Zhan Weiyang nodded, “I was so scared, but I was more afraid that my father would die.”

“Your father will not die,” Pei Qing said.

At this point, Zhan Weiyang suddenly became sad again. His eyes were red, and he sniffed, “I don’t dare to think about it. I’m just very scared.”

Pei Qing put down her chopsticks, turned around to look at him, put his arms around his waist, and said, “No one is going to die. Your father will recover and be discharged soon.”

       Zhan Weiyang said, “Yeah.”

       Pei Qing kissed his lips.

After the two of them finished breakfast, Pei Qing drove Zhan Weiyang to the hospital. Zhan Weiguang also had breakfast in the hospital that morning. He helped Zhan Pengcheng go to the bathroom, came back and let Zhan Pengcheng lie down on the bed, then walked to the window and looked outside.

The patient in the next bed was going to be discharged today. He packed up his things early in the morning and was just waiting for the doctor to check the room and complete the discharge procedures. At this time, the bed was empty.

Zhan Weiguang didn’t sleep very well at night and stretched out by the window. Zhan Pengcheng’s mental state was getting better day by day. He was lying on the hospital bed, looking at Zhan Weiguang’s back, and suddenly asked, “Weiguang, why is Pei Qing so good to Yangyang?”

Zhan Weiguang didn’t expect to hear this question. He paused for a moment and didn’t know how to answer. He hesitated for a while and said, “Because Zhan Weiyang is cute.”

       Zhan Pengcheng didn’t say anything.

Zhan Weiguang couldn’t help but look back at him.

Zhan Pengcheng lay on his back in bed. In just two days, he looked like he had lost weight. He looked at the ceiling, his arms stretched out of the quilt, and the light blue blood vessels on them could be clearly seen. There was also an indwelling needle on the back of his right hand. He spoke with no strength in his voice, “I just think he’s being too nice. If Yangyang were a girl, I would probably worry about whether he had any thoughts about Yangyang.”

Zhan Weiguang asked, “Isn’t it good if he’s nice to him?”

Zhan Pengcheng said, “After all, he is not your aunt’s biological son. To put it bluntly, we have no blood relationship, not even distant relatives. When Yangyang was hospitalised before, he helped to keep watch. Now that I am hospitalised, he has come all the way here. I always feel that I owe him too many favours, which is not good.”

When Zhan Pengcheng said these words, an idea suddenly popped up in Zhan Weiguang’s head. He wanted to say: Why don’t you give him your son to repay the favour. Of course, he didn’t say this, and he was terrified by his own idea.

Chapter 81

       Zhan Weiyang was terrified.

He first stared blankly and frozen in place for a few seconds. Then, when he saw Zhan Pengcheng vomiting blood, he rushed to the bed, slapped Zhan Pengcheng’s face with his hand, and shouted loudly, “Dad! Dad!” He wanted to wake Zhan Pengcheng up.

Zhan Pengcheng groaned as if in pain.

Zhan Weiyang was trembling with fear. He tried to cover Zhan Pengcheng’s mouth with his hand, but his palm soon became sticky and hot. When he retracted his hand, tears came out of his eyes.

He stood up, turned around in place, and took out his mobile phone from his pyjama pocket without caring about the blood on his hands.

Zhan Weiyang called Pei Qing. While waiting for the call to be connected, he kept stamping his feet in place, unable to control the slight trembling of his body.

Fortunately, Pei Qing answered the phone. Her voice was unclear as if he had been woken up from a deep sleep, “Yangyang?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “My father vomited blood.”

Pei Qing’s voice suddenly became clear, “Are you two at home? Is Uncle sober?”

       Zhan Weiyang cried, “He’s drunk.”

Pei Qing immediately said, “Call 120, dear, hurry up.” He didn’t know the specific situation on Zhan Weiyang’s side, but when he heard Zhan Weiyang crying, he knew that Zhan Pengcheng’s condition must not be very good. If he asked in detail, it would probably take up too much time, so his first reaction was to ask Zhan Weiyang to call an ambulance.

After that, Pei Qing was worried that Zhan Weiyang would not be able to explain clearly, so he said, “I’ll call 120 for you too. I’ll hang up first and call you back later.”

Then Zhan Weiyang heard Pei Qing hang up the phone. He still remembered what Pei Qing said and dialled 120 with his mobile phone.

While waiting for the ambulance, Pei Qing called Zhan Weiyang again.

Pei Qing asked about Zhan Pengcheng’s condition and told Zhan Weiyang, “Don’t be afraid.”

Zhan Weiyang said, “I’m so scared.”

Pei Qing said, “Don’t be afraid. When the ambulance comes, you will go with it to the hospital, do you have money? Do you have any money? If the doctor asks you to pay, you pay, got it? I bought the earliest air ticket and will be back with you tomorrow morning.”

Zhan Weiyang seemed not to hear Pei Qing’s words. He kept squatting beside the bed and staring at Zhan Pengcheng with his eyes wide open. His breathing was about to stop for fear that Zhan Pengcheng would spit out blood from his mouth again.

He didn’t remember when he hung up the phone with Pei Qing. When the ambulance came, he stumbled and climbed into the car. He sat with the medical staff in fear and anxiety. He forgot to wear his coat and didn’t have time to change his shoes. Fortunately, when he was about to leave, the neighbourhood security guard who came in with the ambulance reminded him to lock the door.

The emergency hall of the hospital was still crowded with people late at night. Zhan Pengcheng was sent to the emergency room to stop the bleeding.

Zhan Weiyang followed behind at a loss and kept hearing a buzzing sound in his ears. The emergency doctor handed him a few receipts, asked him to pay the bills, and said that he would arrange hospitalization for Zhan Pengcheng.

The doctor saw Zhan Weiyang take the bills but didn’t say anything and couldn’t help asking, “Is the patient your father?”

       Zhan Weiyang nodded.

The doctor asked again, “What about your mother?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “I don’t know.”

The doctor was a little worried about him, but at this time, the nurse was urging him outside again, so the doctor had to leave in a hurry. Before leaving, he said to him, “You’d better ask your family to come over. Your father’s brothers and sisters will do.”

But Zhan Weiyang didn’t know who to call. Grandma and Auntie Luo were not there, and Pei Qing and Zhan Weiguang went back to school; he didn’t know his father’s friends, and his father’s brothers and sisters were not in this city.

Zhan Weiyang stood there holding the receipts in his hand and heard the buzzing sound in his head getting stronger and stronger. He felt scared, just like when he thought he was about to turn into a tree, and his whole body fell into an uncontrollable panic.

He suddenly wanted to find a place to hide.

Zhan Weiyang stared at a pot of green plants in the corner of the emergency room. He envied the plant because he only needed to stand quietly without thinking or doing anything. The white light above his head shone down, and Zhan Weiyang felt that he was actually a fortune tree at that moment. His head was empty and blank, and everything around him became farther and farther away.

At this moment, Zhan Weiyang heard something in his ear. It was not very real, but it was faintly hitting his eardrum.

He didn’t understand what the sentence meant, but he heard the name ‘Zhan Pengcheng’.

Who is Zhan Pengcheng? Zhan Weiyang felt a headache. He remembered that Zhan Pengcheng was his father, and then someone repeated the sentence, and the meaning gradually became clear. Zhan Weiyang heard the sentence, “Who is Zhan Pengcheng’s family member?”

The person who shouted was a nurse with a loud voice and an urgent tone.

Zhan Weiyang was like being suddenly pulled back to reality from a dream. Everything around him became noisy and vivid again, and those blurred figures began to become clear.

He recalled his father lying on the bed, vomiting blood. He was afraid that his father would die, so he called an ambulance and followed the ambulance to the hospital.

The nurse shouted again, “Who is Zhan Pengcheng’s family member?”

Zhan Weiyang raised his hand that was holding the document and hurriedly replied, “I am his son!” He couldn’t let his father die.

Pei Qing rushed to the hospital near noon when Zhan Pengcheng had already been admitted to the gastroenterology ward.

He only brought a simple travel bag and walked into the ward in a hurry. He was too worried about Zhan Weiyang. He still remembered Zhan Weiyang’s panicked cry and was afraid that Zhan Weiyang would not be able to deal with the current predicament.

In the end, when he walked into the ward’s door, he saw Zhan Weiyang sitting next to Zhan Pengcheng’s bed and eating.

Zhan Pengcheng had woken up. He was lying on his side, with one hand stretched out of the quilt and receiving an infusion. He was pale but kept his eyes open and looked at Zhan Weiyang.

Zhan Weiyang didn’t notice Pei Qing. He was holding a paper lunch box and disposable chopsticks. He took a bite of rice and stopped, saying to Zhan Pengcheng, “The doctor said you can’t eat.”

Zhan Pengcheng nodded and said weakly, “Dad will just watch you eat.”

Pei Qing noticed that Zhan Pengcheng’s eyes were red when he finished speaking.

Zhan Pengcheng then noticed Pei Qing and asked in surprise, “Why are you here?” He thought Zhan Weiguang would be the first to come back.

Zhan Weiyang turned his head back suddenly and shouted, “Qing ge.”

Pei Qing walked in, put her hand on Zhan Weiyang’s shoulder, patted his face, and said, “Eat the meal first, dear.”

Zhan Weiyang looked at him for a while, then sat down and continued to eat the greasy lunch box.

Pei Qing stood by the bed and talked to Zhan Pengcheng. Zhan Pengcheng was too weak and fell asleep not long after talking.

After finishing his meal, Zhan Weiyang took out his lunch box and threw it into the big trash can at the end of the corridor. When he returned to the room, he met the nurse who was changing the medicine for Zhan Pengcheng.

The new medicine was in a full bottle, and it would take a long time to finish the infusion.

The ward was a double ward, with a curtain in the middle, so they couldn’t see each other.

Zhan Weiyang walked to Pei Qing and suddenly remembered something and asked softly, “Have you eaten?”

Pei Qing didn’t have time to eat, but he still said, “I have eaten. You don’t have to worry about me.”

Zhan Weiyang nodded and looked at Zhan Pengcheng, who was soundly sleeping.

Pei Qing suddenly reached out and hugged him, saying, “Are you scared?”

Zhan Weiyang quickly raised his hand, hugged Pei Qing’s waist tightly, nodded, buried his face in his chest, and didn’t want to lift it up for a long time.

Pei Qing pressed his neck with one hand and said, “It’s okay, gege is back.”

       Zhan Weiyang said softly, “En.”

Chapter 80

On Friday, Zhan Weiyang spent the whole afternoon waiting for Zhan Pengcheng to call him.

Chen Youyou asked him if he wanted to have dinner together in the evening, but Zhan Weiyang refused, saying that his father would come to pick him up for dinner.

When school was over, Zhan Pengcheng finally called Zhan Weiyang and said in a very anxious tone, “Dad has something to do now and can’t leave. You go home and wait for a while. If you are hungry, buy something to eat.”

Zhan Weiyang said, “I’m not hungry.”

Zhan Pengcheng seemed very busy and had no time to say more. He just said, “Then you go home and wait for Dad.” Then he hung up the phone.

Zhan Weiyang went home by bus alone.

When he returned home, he was still alone. He took his schoolbag to the room on the second floor first, sat next to the table and played with his mobile phone for a while. When he looked up at the window, he found that it was dark.

The sky got dark earlier in winter, and there were no children playing outside in the community garden, which made it even more deserted.

Zhan Weiyang glanced at the time and felt that Zhan Pengcheng should be coming to pick him up soon. He turned off the lights in his room and went downstairs to the first floor. He turned on the TV in the living room, settled into a corner of the sofa, and mindlessly flipped through channels with the remote.

Half an hour later, Zhan Pengcheng called Zhan Weiyang to tell him that he could not make it back.

Zhan Pengcheng was still very worried about Zhan Weiyang and kept telling him to go eat by himself, “If you don’t want to go out, you can order takeout. Remember to wear more clothes when you go out. It’s cold outside.”

       Zhan Weiyang said, “I know.”

Zhan Pengcheng said again, “Be sure to eat! If Dad comes back early, I’ll bring you a midnight snack, got it?”

       Zhan Weiyang said, “Okay.”

Then there was a noise on the other end of the phone, and Zhan Pengcheng had to hang up the phone.

Zhan Weiyang, still squatting in the corner of the sofa, put down his phone, got up, jumped off the sofa, and walked into the kitchen.

He didn’t want to order takeout anymore and wanted to find out if there were any instant noodles in the kitchen. He rummaged through the kitchen and actually found instant noodles.

Standing there with the instant noodles and thinking for a while, Zhan Weiyang thought he could add a sausage, so he opened the refrigerator and found a bag of unopened sausage.

When boiling water in a pot, Zhan Weiyang began to miss Pei Qing again. If Pei Qing were here at this time, they would definitely go out to eat together, and he wouldn’t have to cook instant noodles himself.

Zhan Weiyang cooked instant noodles not very skillfully. He took the bowl to the living room, ate while watching TV, and went back to the kitchen to wash the bowl after eating. Then, he wiped the stove carefully with a rag like Auntie Luo, turned off the kitchen light, and left.

When he video-chatted with Pei Qing in the evening, Zhan Weiyang said that he had instant noodles for dinner.

Pei Qing was not at school today but went home. In his room, he sat next to the desk and asked, “Why are you so pitiful?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “Dad originally said he would pick me up for dinner, but he had something else to do.”

Pei Qing said, “Uncle is too busy.”

Zhan Weiyang nodded, “I know, Dad works too hard.”

Pei Qing said to him, “You haven’t seen my room yet.” After that, he turned the camera of his mobile phone around the room to show Zhan Weiyang his room.

Zhan Weiyang lay on the bed and said, “When will you come back?”

Pei Qing was silent for two seconds, smiled and said to him, “I will come back to see you when the Qingming Festival holiday comes, okay?”

Zhan Weiyang began to calculate the time of Qingming Festival in his head.

Pei Qing said, “You can also come over to play. I’ll call Uncle and ask him to take you to the airport, and I’ll pick you up at the airport.”

Zhan Weiyang asked, “Is that okay?”

Pei Qing said, “Of course, I’ll take you to my university to play, and we can also go to eat delicious food.”

Speaking of delicious food, Zhan Weiyang felt hungry, and he said, “I want to eat delicious food.”

When the two of them finished the video, Zhan Weiyang saw that it was almost time to go to bed.

He got up from the bed, opened the door and looked outside. There was a light on in the corridor and another light on the entrance on the first floor, both of which he left for Zhan Pengcheng.

It was quiet outside, and he didn’t know when Zhan Pengcheng would come back.

Zhan Weiyang closed the door, went back to the bed and lay down, reaching out to turn off the table lamp on the bedside table.

It was almost eleven o’clock at that time.

Zhan Weiyang had just closed his eyes when he heard the sound of a car approaching from downstairs and stopping in front of his house.

He opened his eyes, got out of bed in his pyjamas and walked to the window to look. Sure enough, he saw a car parked at the door. Then he saw the driver open the back door and help Zhan Pengcheng, who was almost unconscious, out of the car.

“Dad!” Zhan Weiyang turned and ran outside.

While still on the stairs, Zhan Weiyang heard the doorbell. He hurried downstairs, ran to the door, and opened it. He saw a familiar uncle standing outside, helping his father.

The uncle noticed Zhan Weiyang’s presence and asked him, “Are you alone at home?”

       Zhan Weiyang nodded.

The uncle frowned, seemed a little worried, and said, “Your father is drunk.”

Zhan Weiyang looked at Zhan Pengcheng and panicked.

The uncle said, “Let me help you get him in first.” After that, he and Zhan Weiyang helped Zhan Pengcheng in. Fortunately, Zhan Pengcheng was not completely unconscious. When Zhan Weiyang held one of his shoulders, he still shouted indistinctly, “Yangyang?”

“Dad!” Zhan Weiyang was angry that Zhan Pengcheng was so drunk.

The two of them struggled to carry Zhan Pengcheng up to the second floor and his room.

When helping Zhan Pengcheng fall on the bed, the uncle said to Zhan Weiyang, “He has to lie on his side, understand?”

Zhan Weiyang looked at the uncle nervously.

The uncle said, “He has to lie on his side when he is drunk. You should pay attention to it at night, and it’s better to watch him.”

Zhan Weiyang nodded. He accompanied the uncle downstairs, waited for the other party to leave, locked the door, and hurried back to the second floor. He then went into Zhan Pengcheng’s room to see if he was lying on his side.

Zhan Pengcheng was already asleep and began to snore, and his snoring was loud.

Zhan Weiyang smelled the strong smell of alcohol in the room, frowned and walked back and forth a few steps beside the bed. Then he remembered that he and Pei Qing took care of the drunk Zhan Pengcheng last time, so he went to the bathroom and wrung out a hot towel.

Back in the room, Zhan Weiyang wiped Zhan Pengcheng’s face. Noticing the unpleasant smell, he couldn’t help but wipe his neck and hands as well.

He really couldn’t undress Zhan Pengcheng by himself. Fortunately, Zhan Pengcheng had taken off his coat when he entered the room. Zhan Weiyang could only help him take off his shoes and socks and pull up the quilt to cover him up to his neck.

After doing this, Zhan Weiyang thought of what the uncle had just said, and he didn’t dare leave the room. He could only turn off the ceiling light, leave a small table lamp, and then squat by the bed to look at Zhan Pengcheng.

“Dad,” Zhan Weiyang complained in a low voice, “you drink too much.”

Zhan Pengcheng certainly wouldn’t answer. His eyes were tightly closed, his mouth was open, and he kept snoring.

Zhan Weiyang thought he was too noisy, raised his hand and pinched his nose, heard the snoring stop briefly, and let go of his hand in fear.

       Zhan Pengcheng was still snoring.

Zhan Weiyang rested his head on his arm, lay on the side of the bed, and said, “Don’t drink so much.” He was a little scared.

After lying like this for a while, Zhan Weiyang felt sleepy. He thought he might fall asleep. If he fell asleep, he couldn’t watch Zhan Pengcheng to see if he was sleeping on his side. What should he do?

Zhan Weiyang stood up, took out the phone in his pocket, and wanted to call Pei Qing. However, he looked at the time and found that it was already half past twelve. Pei Qing must be asleep at this time.

He put the phone back silently and stared at Zhan Pengcheng on the bed. He suddenly thought of a way, opened the cabinet in the room, found two quilts, and sandwiched Zhan Pengcheng in the middle, one in front and one behind, so that he couldn’t turn over and could always sleep on his side.

After doing this, Zhan Weiyang decided to observe before going to bed.

He stared at Zhan Pengcheng for more than 20 minutes and found that he moved as if he wanted to turn over, but he didn’t turn over, so he maintained the original position.

After that, Zhan Weiyang moved the quilt to clamp Zhan Pengcheng tighter, then he turned off the table lamp in the room, opened the door and planned to go back to sleep.

He didn’t dare to close the door of Zhan Pengcheng’s room and left one light in the corridor. Before leaving, he leaned over to take another look and heard the sound of Zhan Pengcheng vomiting from the bed.

Zhan Weiyang was stunned. He thought Zhan Pengcheng had vomited, so he quickly reached out, turned on the room’s light, and looked at the bed.

Zhan Pengcheng, who was lying on his side on the bed, had blood around his mouth and on the pillow. He didn’t just vomit—he was vomiting blood.
