Chapter 67 – The past of the demon immortal 1

Chapter 67

Yu Wuxia’s lips curled into a cold smile. Seeing the blood flow uncontrollably, he decided not to use his energy to heal himself anymore.

He wiped the bloodstains from the corner of his mouth, the red mark between his eyebrows vivid against his pale face. “Heh, quite interesting.”

Indeed, he was the chosen son meticulously cultivated by the Heavenly Law for over fifty thousand years.

Haowei absorbed Taiwei’s cultivation from birth until Taiwei’s destined demise. He naturally inherited over fifty thousand years of Taiwei’s cultivation. It could be said that Taiwei, the former Heavenly Emperor, was not just his father but also the crucible that nurtured and expended everything to raise this divine emperor.

Si Lan said, “Yu Wuxia, no matter what, in this life you haven’t committed irreparable mistakes yet. If you’re willing to release Great Heng Immortal Ancestor and lift the Five Star Nine Heavens Formation, there’s still time to make amends.”

Yu Wuxia seemed to find something amusing in Si Lan’s words. He snorted, his brows arching sharply, eyes deep and piercing like two pools in the abyss, veiled in darkness and calmness, yet predatory like a wild wolf hunting at night, with sharp and sinister eyes.

“Jun Li, you’ve seen it too. This world is so rotten, so filthy. It needs a complete transformation.”

Pausing, he continued, “If the two of us could work together to reshape the Six Realms and create a new perfect world, wouldn’t that be better?”

Seeing his stubbornness, Si Lan threatened, “You’re injured now. If you don’t treat it, you’ll die. Your goal of establishing a new world is also to be forever with Great Heng Immortal Ancestor. But if you die, your goal won’t be achieved.”

Yu Wuxia remained unmoved, “I won’t die. Even if the soul in this fleshly body perishes, it can still become the smallest part of the new world and come back to life.”

And Great Heng Immortal Ancestor had already transcended reincarnation; he would be transported by the formation to the new world, waiting for his resurrection. Then no one would say anything against the norms or defy moral principles. They would live as they pleased in this new world.

No, not just them. Everyone could live as they pleased in this new world.

At the thought, madness flickered in Yu Wuxia’s eyes.

Si Lan heard the words “come back to life even after the soul perishes,” a fleeting thought crossed his mind, but he didn’t dwell on it and was drawn back by Yu Wuxia’s words.

“Jun Li, the Heavenly Laws won’t allow excessively powerful beings to exist in the Six Realms. Once they do, they’ll slowly fall like Lord You Shou.” Yu Wuxia’s voice carried a hint of temptation, “So why work for it? Come with me instead. Let’s build a new world. Your beloved won’t suffer the fate of falling from godhood if she reaches that level.”

Upon hearing the words “beloved,” Si Lan’s face flushed slightly. It had to be said, Yu Wuxia knew how to tempt people’s hearts, knowing that reasoning with him directly wouldn’t work, so he used the person Si Lan cared about to persuade him.

But Yu Wuxia was mistaken.

Si Lan stopped him not for the sake of the Heavenly Law.

As for Haowei, he believed Haowei understood better than he did what needed to be done.

Haowei glanced at Si Lan, as if afraid Si Lan would be persuaded. Taking over the conversation, he said, “I don’t need your pretense of goodwill, Yu Wuxia. Are you determined to activate the Five Star Nine Heavens Formation?”

“Yes.” Yu Wuxia’s lips curled, his eyes wild and incomprehensible.

Haowei didn’t waste any more words. He activated the black Soul-Locking Talismans inside Yu Wuxia, suppressing part of his cultivation and preventing him from healing his wounds.

And the moment Yu Wuxia appeared, he secretly set up a formation. Now, like them, Yu Wuxia was trapped, unable to escape.

Sensing this, Yu Wuxia simply clasped his hands in front of his chest, creating a barrier around him to keep Si Lan and Haowei at bay. He closed his eyes, lips moving silently as he attempted to force the Soul-Locking Talismans out of his body with incantations.

In doing so, he inadvertently left an opportunity for Si Lan and Haowei.

Haowei said, “Si Lan, use the Return Spell.”

Upon hearing this, Yu Wuxia opened his eyes and sneered mockingly, “Even in the previous life, the Return Spell proved futile.”

Si Lan walked up to Yu Wuxia and looked at this handsome and alluring monk, despite bleeding heavily, with some compassion in his heart. “Yu Wuxia, do you know why Great Heng Immortal Ancestor refuses to accept you?”

Yu Wuxia’s expression froze at the words, his eyes swirling with intensity as if touched on a raw nerve. In the next instant, a mass of black energy surged out from within his barrier, transforming into blades aimed directly at Si Lan’s forehead.

Haowei acted swiftly, pulling Si Lan behind him and slashing his sword to disperse the black energy.

Si Lan, however, showed no fear. Without even blinking, he leaned out from behind Haowei and declared to Yu Wuxia with a cutting edge, “I think Great Heng Immortal Ancestor rejects you not only because of your cultivation path but also because of your character. Your character is just too poor!” And you don’t even understand how to love others.

He refrained from uttering the last sentence.

Yu Wuxia glared at him furiously, the red mark between his eyebrows pulsing, as if containing immense rage.

Haowei, unperturbed by Yu Wuxia’s reaction, finished his retort, unwilling to waste any more time. He then began to chant a spell to activate the Return Spell.

As Yu Wuxia had predicted, even if the Return Spell revealed everything Yu Wuxia had experienced, it might not uncover his weaknesses. Nevertheless, they had no choice but to try.

At the moment when Si Lan cast the spell, Haowei added another barrier around Yu Wuxia’s existing barrier, further restricting his movements. One condition for successfully activating the Return Spell was keeping the target within thirty feet.

He feared Yu Wuxia might attempt to escape.

Yu Wuxia looked at the two formations and barriers restricting his movements, his pale face darkening slightly.

Was it really necessary to be so cautious?

He glanced at Haowei with a newfound scrutiny. Initially, due to the Heavenly Law, he had underestimated Haowei’s cultivation and intellect. But after their recent exchanges, he suddenly realized that Haowei was not someone to be taken lightly.

At this moment, Haowei was not concerned with Yu Wuxia’s scrutiny. Alongside Si Lan, he entered into the illusion.

Si Lan was now proficient in manipulating the Wheel of Time. After some thought, he decided to return to the scene of Yu Wuxia’s first encounter with Great Heng Immortal Ancestor.

That was the beginning of all their karma.

They landed in a forest, deep into autumn. The branches and leaves on the trees had turned completely yellow, and the ground was covered with layers of fallen leaves. When the strong wind blew, it created a dazzling yet desolate scene of yellow.

They glanced around the forest but didn’t see Great Heng Immortal Ancestor or Yu Wuxia. Just as they were puzzled, another gust of wind blew, scattering a pile of fallen leaves ahead, revealing a corner of a lead-gray monk’s robe.

Si Lan and Haowei exchanged a glance, then moved towards the almost completely enveloped figure buried under the fallen leaves, which turned out to be Yu Wuxia.

The gentle wind brushed over Yu Wuxia’s body, bringing and taking away the fallen leaves, revealing his young and delicate face. Despite looking as though he had endured much hardship in the forest, with sunken eye sockets and slightly dry lips, there was not a hint of discomfort on his face. His expression appeared resolute.

Seeing Yu Wuxia in this state, Si Lan couldn’t help but feel a sense of emotion: a model student had turned into a little tyrant.

The diligent Buddhist practitioner had turned into a man-eating tiger, who had become a Immortal.

Through all these experiences, Yu Wuxia’s heart had not twisted irreparably. It was just unclear how this twist later led him to fall in love with Great Heng Immortal Ancestor…

Haowei noticed Si Lan staring fixedly at Yu Wuxia’s face and, recalling Si Lan’s earlier compliment on Yu Wuxia’s looks, lowered his eyelids and asked coolly, “Is he handsome?”

Si Lan quickly responded, “Not as handsome as you.”

Haowei knew Si Lan was buttering him up, but his lowered eyelids lifted slightly, deliberately asking, “Oh, really?”

“Yeah, really.”

After all, spiritual cultivation could affect a person’s appearance. The higher the cultivation, the better one looked, so purely in terms of appearance, there weren’t many who could compare to Haowei.

Si Lan felt like he had stumbled upon a big advantage by accident.

As they conversed, an unusually heavy breathing sound suddenly came from behind them, accompanied by the crushing of fallen leaves underfoot.

They turned around and saw a tiger, skin and bones from hunger.

This was Great Heng Immortal Ancestor.

The tiger approached step by step until it stood in front of Yu Wuxia.

Yu Wuxia slowly opened his eyes and met the tiger’s gaze.

Si Lan wasn’t sure what the emotions were between the man and the tiger, but he felt unexpectedly nervous and reached out to grab Haowei’s sleeve beside him.

Haowei glanced at his hand, then pretended to casually touch Si Lan’s hand and quietly held it.

Si Lan’s attention was now focused on the man and the tiger. Contrary to the expected tense atmosphere, the tiger was lying on the ground, barely breathing, looking at Yu Wuxia.

Yu Wuxia closed his eyes again and resumed his meditation.

A day passed like this. Yu Wuxia continued meditating while the tiger’s breath grew weaker.

Si Lan observed the scene in silence and remarked, “I didn’t expect Immortal Jiaheng to be… so courteous.” He figured Immortal Jiaheng’s emaciation in this dense forest was probably due to not actively hunting.

Now the tiger guarded Yu Wuxia, apparently intending to wait until he died to eat him. Yet Yu Wuxia unexpectedly persevered.

The tiger lay on the ground, half-opening its eyes to watch Yu Wuxia.

Perhaps its gaze was too intense. Yu Wuxia opened his eyes, turned the prayer beads in his hand, and smiled wryly, “Since we’ve met here, it must be fate. I can’t bear to let a life pass before my eyes, so I’ll give you a piece of my flesh.”

With that, Yu Wuxia cut a piece of flesh from his arm and handed it to the tiger.

The tiger smelled the blood and couldn’t help but growl softly. It devoured the piece of flesh voraciously. After satisfying its hunger, the tiger did not leave but continued to guard Yu Wuxia.

With closed eyes, Yu Wuxia continued chanting and meditating, seemingly oblivious to the pain in his arm or the tiger’s watchful eyes.

The next day, the tiger was hungry again. Yu Wuxia cut a piece of flesh from his leg for it.

On the third day, it was flesh from his chest.

Until finally, the once lean disciple of Immortal became a nearly fleshless skeleton. As the white bones collapsed, his eyes remained fixed on the sky.

Si Lan approached and heard the murmured words of the white bones, “Why do I still lack that last bit of merit?”

At that moment, the tiger that had consumed the flesh suddenly emitted a golden light, transforming into a Immortal figure.

Seeing this, the white bones could not rest in peace.

Si Lan looked at the transformed Jiaheng and then at the white bones, deeply moved. Unable to contain his curiosity, he turned to Haowei, whom he regarded as knowing everything.

“Why did the tiger attain Immortalhood while Yu Wuxia perished?”

Haowei frowned thoughtfully and replied, “I do not fully understand the Buddhist principles here, but I suspect it’s because Yu Wuxia’s act of feeding his flesh to the tiger wasn’t purely out of compassion but rather stemmed from his desire to attain that last bit of merit. His attachment to gaining merit prevented his enlightenment. Whereas the tiger, though it consumed flesh, did so out of instinct, not malice.”

Moreover, this tiger seemed unlikely to attack living beings and only ate dead things or what was given, which explained its skeletal appearance.

Although the tiger was a fierce beast ignorant of Buddhist scriptures, it possessed a Immortal’s heart, which enabled it to attain Immortalhood.

Si Lan couldn’t help but think of the Moth King for some reason.

He wondered if Yu Wuxia had foreseen this reason when he initially chose the Moth King.

Some actions, though seemingly evil, are not entirely evil.

Some deeds, though seemingly virtuous, are not entirely virtuous.

Si Lan witnessed Immortal Jiaheng’s swift enlightenment and profound study of Buddhist texts after his sudden Immortalhood in the Thirty-Three Heavens, ultimately becoming a disciple of the Blessed Passing Immortal.

On the other hand, after countless reincarnations, Yu Wuxia consistently performed good deeds.

Si Lan manipulated the cycle spell, jumping directly to the scene where they first met many years later.

Suddenly, a disciple on earth ascended to become a Immortal due to his profound virtue, illuminating the Thirty-Three Heavens with his merit lamp. Nine thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine bronze bells rang autonomously, their sound incessant, Immortal’s light radiating over a hundred thousand miles, shaking the Six Realms.

All the Immortals of the Thirty-Three Heavens mobilized to witness this extraordinary disciple.

When Yu Wuxia ascended to the Thirty-Three Heavens, he saw countless Immortals standing amidst the clouds, dignified and smiling.

Si Lan followed Yu Wuxia and witnessed this magnificent scene, unable to resist saying, “I didn’t expect Yu Wuxia to have such prestige.”

Haowei coolly remarked, “Indeed, good-looking and prestigious.”

“…”

He realized he shouldn’t praise others, even if they were mortal enemies. He obediently closed his mouth and followed behind Yu Wuxia.

“Disciple Wuxia pays respects to the Immortals.”

Seated on a lotus throne, the Blessed Passing Immortal, with compassionate eyes, smiled at Yu Wuxia, “Wuxia, all these Immortals behind you are willing to take you as their disciple. Whom do you choose?”

Yu Wuxia glanced at the multitude of Immortals behind him but eventually fixed his gaze upon Immortal Jiaheng beside the Blessed Passing Immortal.

When Yu Wuxia ascended, Immortal Jiaheng’s expression turned uneasy. Meeting Yu Wuxia’s direct gaze, his brow furrowed slightly.

“Immortal, I wish to become a disciple under Immortal Jiaheng.”

Immortal Jiaheng’s expression immediately turned odd. He sought help from the Blessed Passing Immortal, who after a moment’s consideration, surprisingly agreed.

The Blessed Passing Immortal said something to Jiaheng, and despite Immortal Jiaheng’s hint of helplessness on his face, he didn’t object but nodded lightly.

As Immortal Jiaheng led Yu Wuxia away, the other Immortals behind them showed regretful expressions.

Yu Wuxia followed Immortal Jiaheng, his gaze fixed on the back of his neck. Immortal Jiaheng sensed his stare, causing his steps to stiffen slightly.

Upon arriving at a secluded cave, Immortal Jiaheng finally turned around, feigning indifference. “You shall cultivate here.”

Yu Wuxia surveyed the dim surroundings, worse than the conditions he had in his earthly practice. Nevertheless, he remained silent, respectfully folding his hands in front of his chest. “Yes.”

As Jiaheng turned to leave, he paused beside Yu Wuxia, suddenly remembering something. He glanced at Yu Wuxia’s face and asked, “Why did you choose to follow under my guidance?”

He hadn’t taken a disciple for a thousand years. Even if he did, it wouldn’t have been Yu Wuxia. It was the Blessed Passing Immortal who told him about the cause and effect — the flesh sacrifice back then was the cause; now, taking a disciple was the effect.

Chapter 66 – The beast is trapped

Chapter 66

Actually, it wasn’t just to disgrace the heavens, but also to destroy Si Lan.

“Jun Li, the one who wants to harm Haowei is not me, but you,” Yu Wuxia’s voice, like a snake’s hiss, slithered into Si Lan’s ears after his laugh.

“You could have chosen to plant the array in Qu Ze’s body. That way, even if Haowei hurt or killed Qu Ze, he wouldn’t feel so guilty. But you deliberately brought it into your own body. Isn’t this harming Haowei?”

“You know how Haowei feels about you. If he knew he hurt you even a little, he would hurt himself tenfold. So it is your compassion, your kindness, your benevolence that made you choose to hurt the one you love most.”

As Yu Wuxia finished speaking, outside the barrier, Haowei was suddenly attacked by a humanoid monster, shriveled and withered like dead wood.

The monster moved quickly and ghostly, attempting to get close to Haowei, but was sliced in half by his long sword. However, the pain was transmitted to Si Lan.

It felt like a punch to his abdomen, his face turning pale from the pain.

At some point, Yu Wuxia had let go of him.

He fell to the ground, trying to stand up. At that moment, it felt as if a knife had slashed his abdomen, the ripping pain surging from his flesh. Though there wasn’t a visible wound, the pain was unbearable.

Even in such agony, he couldn’t help but grumble in his heart, wondering what kind of sword Haowei was using that it could hurt so much. He decided he would make Haowei change his sword when they got back.

With one hand clutching his abdomen and the other hand tightly clenched, he tried to support himself to stand. Just then, another sword strike hit him, sending him flying backward, his body crashing into a boulder. A taste of blood instantly filled his mouth.

“Haowei.”

He tried to contact Haowei with his spiritual sense, but couldn’t reach him.

After slaying two monsters, Haowei’s long sword transformed into countless sword shadows, swirling in the air, ready to break through the illusion.

Si Lan glanced at the sword shadows, his legs trembling, estimating that if they struck him, he would either be dead or crippled.

He silently comforted himself, believing his special physique and blood that could heal others might help him. As long as he could still drink blood, he should be able to survive.

While hiding his breath and observing the situation inside the barrier, he noticed that Yu Wuxia had left at some point.

Surrounded by darkness, except for his own breathing, there was no sound. He cast a spell to conjure a fire, illuminating his surroundings, and realized he was inside a massive stone coffin.

To be precise, he was in an illusion of a stone coffin.

The stone coffin was cold and white, with densely carved runes inside. Recognizing them as Ling Jie Curses, he frowned.

Ling Jie Curses are extremely vicious. Anyone cursed by them would have their soul destroyed, never to reincarnate.

His face darkened, realizing that this stone coffin was prepared by Yu Wuxia, intending to use his body to activate the Five-Pointed Nine Heavens Array and then obliterate his soul.

Yu Wuxia didn’t want the heavens to find his reincarnation and send him back to defy fate again, so he planned to eliminate this “hidden danger” in this lifetime.

He estimated that Yu Wuxia had left but was probably still in the shadows, enjoying the scene of him and Haowei struggling like trapped beasts.

So he looked up at the sky and gave a middle finger.

Outside the barrier, countless flying swords wove together like a stream of arrows, slowly approaching the array, seemingly waiting for the right moment to strike.

Si Lan moved closer to the barrier, quietly watching Haowei’s face.

Suddenly, he remembered that since Haowei had returned to his adult form, he hadn’t really looked at him seriously. This time, he finally took a good look at him, albeit in such a setting.

His eyes stung as he reached out to touch Haowei’s eyebrows and eyes through the barrier. When he first met Haowei, he was just a little white dragon—proud, naive, delicate, and precious, without any sense of majesty or coldness.

So even though Haowei had returned to his adult form, Si Lan didn’t fear him much.

In reality, Haowei’s face was cold and stern, exuding an intimidating presence that made others feel threatened.

Especially with his slightly downward-tilted eyes and the aloofness they conveyed, it seemed like he didn’t take anyone seriously.

The sword shadows spun faster and faster, causing the rubble on the ground to rise, nearly obscuring Haowei’s figure. Si Lan closed his eyes and whispered a silent apology.

He had already concealed his breath. If he were to die, he would only turn into an ordinary skeleton, hoping Haowei wouldn’t find out. That way, Haowei wouldn’t know he had died and wouldn’t feel the pain.

“Haowei…” Si Lan murmured his name.

At that moment, the sword shadows that were about to break through the array suddenly paused, hanging motionless in the air.

The rising rubble and dust fell instantly, revealing Haowei’s face as he walked slowly towards Si Lan.

Si Lan’s heart raced, and he kept his eyes fixed on Haowei, unsure if Haowei had sensed something.

Haowei reached out his hand, pressing his palm against the invisible barrier where Si Lan’s hand met his. Si Lan inexplicably smiled, his chest trembling slightly as a thin mist of tears rose in his eyes. “Haowei…”

With cold black eyes, Haowei retracted his long sword, ceasing his attack on the array.

Si Lan guessed that although Haowei couldn’t see him, he might have sensed something was wrong.

Suddenly, three desiccated monsters emerged from the array, baring their teeth as they lunged at Haowei. He dodged them but refused to strike back.

It seemed that the array was deliberately trying to provoke Haowei, as more and more monsters appeared, nearly filling the entire illusion.

Si Lan noticed that Haowei, for some reason, wasn’t attacking them. After several evasions, he was scratched by a monster, leaving a bloody mark on his face and tearing open his chest, revealing blood.

Si Lan knew this was Yu Wuxia’s way of forcing Haowei to fight.

Cornered, Haowei remained cold and calm, lost in thought with his eyes downcast. Meanwhile, a stone behind him slowly transformed into a gaping maw. Si Lan couldn’t help but shout, “Haowei… Haowei… watch out behind you.”

But Haowei couldn’t hear him. By the time he realized, the monster had already bitten down. His life-bound sword instinctively tried to attack the monster but was called back.

He twisted his body to avoid the attack, but his arm was still bitten. The monster’s sharp fangs sliced along his arm, taking away two chunks of flesh.

Blood instantly soaked through his white robe.

Si Lan’s heart leaped into his throat, his voice hoarse. “Haowei, Haowei… fight back!”

He shouted for a long time, but Haowei didn’t respond. Maybe it was because of his injured arm, or perhaps due to exhaustion, Haowei’s movements grew slower, and his injuries increased.

Si Lan feared that if this continued, Haowei would die inside the array. While Haowei couldn’t break out, Si Lan could enter to save him. With this thought, he drew his Xuanshin Whip, which wrapped around the barrier like a spirit snake.

The barrier trembled, revealing a swastika rune, the gate of the barrier. The long whip turned into a sharp blade, slashing at the swastika repeatedly.

After a few strikes, a crack appeared on the barrier. Si Lan’s expression relaxed slightly, but seeing the situation inside the array made his face tense again.

Haowei had been knocked to the ground, his white robe soaked with blood. As he struggled to get up, a monster stomped on him, and its withered but sharp fingers turned into blades, slicing into his back and reaching for his core.

Even so, Haowei didn’t resist, enduring the pain as his core was forcibly extracted.

The monster excitedly swallowed Haowei’s inner core after extracting it, then let out another fierce roar and shattered Haowei’s spiritual platform.

In an instant, the divine aura of the fallen true dragon burst forth from the formation, shaking the valley and startling countless beasts.

Si Lan was stunned for a moment. When he realized what had happened, he broke down and shouted, “Haowei… Haowei, get up…”

He attacked the barrier madly, disregarding everything. Finally, the cracks in the swastika widened, revealing a small gap. His body turned into smoke and slipped through the barrier without hesitation, charging into the formation.

He threw himself in front of Haowei, his lips trembling as he called Haowei’s name, but found he couldn’t make a sound.

Haowei was covered in blood. When Si Lan touched him, his hand was stained red. He was terrified, speechless, and tears began to fall one by one.

Suddenly, the monster within the formation turned to dust and vanished into the air.

Behind him, the figure of Yu Wuxia appeared.

Yu Wuxia had always appeared as an illusion before; this was the first time he appeared in his true form.

He wore a lead-gray kasaya, with a string of 1,080 yellow prayer beads hanging on his chest. His tall, slender figure stood straight, and his clothes fluttered without wind.

Though his face was like that of a serene monk, the bewitching red mark between his brows gave him an unrestrained and wanton appearance.

He looked at Haowei, lying in a pool of blood, with a hint of regret on his face.

What a pity that Haowei died so easily.

He had thought Haowei, as the Divine Emperor, had transcended the cycle of reincarnation and achieved immortality. Unexpectedly, Haowei now lay dead, killed by a few ordinary monsters.

It must have been because Haowei had transferred too much of his cultivation to Si Lan during their spiritual connection recently.

Yet, Si Lan, this little fool, probably still didn’t realize that Haowei’s death was a result of his own actions.

Yu Wuxia walked slowly to Si Lan, his eyes full of mockery. “He died because of you.”

Si Lan didn’t respond. He seemed to be lost in profound grief, his hands clenched tightly, unable to cry or move, like a puppet, silently sitting beside Haowei.

Yu Wuxia’s words were like daggers, “The heavens have erred again, sending down something utterly useless.”

As he finished speaking, Yu Wuxia extended his hand, intending to crush Haowei’s body. However, just as his hand reached out, Haowei’s seemingly lifeless body suddenly moved with lightning speed, grabbing Yu Wuxia’s elbow. A strange black rune swiftly spread from Haowei’s hand into Yu Wuxia’s body.

Yu Wuxia was about to cast a spell against him, but at that moment, Si Lan, who had been immersed in his sorrow, somehow managed to open his tightly clenched hands, revealing a long sword formed from a fragment of Heaven’s Law.

He held the sword and, without hesitation, thrust it into Yu Wuxia’s heart.

Yu Wuxia’s body seemed to split apart, golden light pouring from his chest. He hastily cast a spell, pushing both of them away and stumbling back several steps.

Coughing up blood, he reached for the piece of the sword formed from Heaven’s Law embedded in his chest, his eyes blood-red as he glared at the two standing side by side before him.

“You two…”

Yu Wuxia’s gaze slowly shifted to Haowei. As Haowei stood up, all his wounds and bloodstains vanished. His robe was as white as snow, and his face was strikingly handsome.

Haowei looked at him coldly.

Yu Wuxia couldn’t believe it. “Aren’t you already dead?” He had believed Haowei was dead because the fall of a true dragon, with its divine aura dispersing, would cause mountains to shake and beasts to cry out.

That was why he had dared to reveal his true form.

He had never been certain he could defeat these two, so he had always hidden his true self. Only upon seeing Haowei’s death had he come out, not expecting it to be a setup!

“Yu Wuxia, you’re not the only one who knows how to use illusions.” Haowei spoke as he glanced at Si Lan, a hint of caution in his eyes.

Si Lan smirked, the redness in his eyes not yet faded, still seemingly not fully recovered from the recent sorrow. “We’ll settle this when we get back.”

Haowei had set up an illusion but hadn’t informed him!

It made him almost faint with rage and grief when he saw Haowei injured inside the barrier.

He realized something was wrong when he approached Haowei’s “body” and noticed a small pinky finger, hidden under the bloody, mangled hand, hooking his finger.

At that moment, he understood Haowei wasn’t dead and was deliberately acting.

When Yu Wuxia appeared behind him, Haowei’s little finger hooked again, and Si Lan vaguely understood. He quietly conjured the fragment of Heaven’s Dao into a long sword and hid it in his hand.

Afraid of revealing the truth, he pretended to be in extreme grief, sitting motionless and dazed.

“Alright.” Haowei leaned slightly, whispering in Si Lan’s ear with a magnetic voice, “You can punish me however you want when we get back.”

Si Lan’s ears inexplicably turned red, and he glared at Haowei.

How could a simple sentence be said with such a suggestive tone?

Yu Wuxia, watching the two “flirting” before him, felt blood mist surging in his eyes. He slowly clenched his fingers, trying to stop the bleeding.

The Heaven’s Dao fragment didn’t kill him outright but severely injured him.

He felt his cultivation draining away like quicksand, but the black rune Haowei had introduced into his body prevented him from stopping the bleeding. The two conflicting forces collided within him, causing another wave of nausea.

Haowei looked at him and said, “I once read in my father Taiwei’s writings about the runes you placed on the pentagram formation. Knowing they were used to channel a curse, I guessed you might transfer the formation into someone’s body. When I was fighting those two monsters, I suddenly understood your intent. You intended to use me to kill someone.”

So Haowei played along, pretending to be killed but actually casting an illusion within the formation, making Yu Wuxia think his divine aura had dissipated and the true dragon had fallen.

What he hadn’t anticipated was that Yu Wuxia would transfer the formation into Si Lan’s body instead of Qu Ze’s. Thinking about how Si Lan’s soul had nearly shattered when he entered the formation, Haowei felt a pang of guilt in his heart.

Chapter 65 – Demon Lord Becomes a Container

Chapter 65

“Yu Wuxia said, only by entering the Pentagram Array can we save Quze.”

“Quze is trapped within the Pentagram Array?” Haowei’s tone lowered slightly.

“Mm.”

As they spoke, the two descended near the foot of the mountain. Apparently affected by the array, Línglóng Mountain had undergone changes. The mountain was densely carved with runes, peculiar symbols that shimmered like insects under the flickering golden light.

Si Lan hesitated slightly, “Apart from Quze, Xiè Lí and the two guardians are also inside the array.”

“…” Haowei.

It was the first time he encountered a situation where an entire family was dragged into an array.

They probably intended to ensure that none could escape.

“After entering the array, we’ll first meet with Xiè Lí,” Haowei said.

“Mm.” Si Lan nodded like an awkward follower, then added, “Xiè Lí mentioned that there are many demons and monsters inside the array, possibly those subdued by Yu Wuxia before.”

“Mm.” Haowei responded, observing the array. It was a part of the Nine Heavens Pentagram Array.

From the outside, amidst the flowing golden light, there were faintly shimmering, peculiar runes. Originally used for sealing beasts, these runes were now placed within the array, likely intended to capture them alongside these people as demons or monsters.

Looking inside, the array had two layers; Quze’s aura was on the second layer, while Xiè Lí and the others were struggling on the first layer. As for Yu Wuxia, his presence seemed both here and everywhere.

Remembering something, Haowei took out the Demon Subduing Goblet and released the fox demon from within.

The fox demon, dizzy from its earlier spinning, had rested in the goblet for quite some time and felt somewhat better upon coming out. However, upon seeing Haowei’s face, it couldn’t help but gnash its teeth in irritation. Soon, though, it reverted to its charming and delicate appearance, its seductive eyes arching playfully. “Oh my, you’re so annoying! You made me so dizzy and sore. My body still feels achy.”

“…” Si Lan.

Haowei gave her a sidelong glance. “If you don’t want to die, then shut your mouth.”

The fox demon immediately closed her mouth, blinking as she surveyed her surroundings. She realized she was back at Línglóng Mountain. Thinking Haowei might seal her again, she quickly begged tearfully.

“This immortal saved you. Why would I seal you again?” Haowei’s cold tone conveyed, “We just need you to follow us.”

The fox demon was once Yu Wuxia’s lover and resembled Jia Héng Buddha. With her, they had an added assurance.

Finding Haowei difficult to talk to, the fox demon moved closer to Si Lan’s side. Glancing with almond-shaped eyes, she felt Si Lan seemed more approachable. “So, what are you two immortals planning to do?”

Si Lan looked at the fox demon. She lowered her head and lifted the corners of her eyes, intentionally making herself seem shy.

Rather than answering the fox demon directly, Si Lan teased, “Don’t you want to avoid being sealed again?”

“Mm.”

“Then help us capture Yu Wuxia. We won’t seal you again if you cooperate.”

“What do you want me to do?” The fox demon leaned closer and asked.

“Help us capture Yu Wuxia.”

“…” The fox demon looked conflicted. She didn’t want to because Yu Wuxia was her lover, and also because he was highly skilled. Going after Yu Wuxia would be like courting danger.

The fox demon muttered, “What did Yu Wuxia do that you’re going through all this trouble to capture him?”

“He wants to destroy the Six Realms. If you don’t want to die, cooperate with us,” Haowei said calmly, pulling Si Lan aside to intervene between her and the fox demon.

As Haowei approached, the fox demon instinctively moved away from him. Upon hearing that Yu Wuxia wanted to destroy the world, her expression turned oddly serious, though not entirely surprised. “Back then, I already felt Yu Wuxia’s thoughts were somewhat obsessive. But I never imagined he’d go so far as to want to destroy the Six Realms.”

The fox demon added, “But even if he destroys the Six Realms, what can I do? I’m just a little fox who’s been imprisoned for thousands of years and understands nothing.”

“… ” Si Lan.

He stepped past Haowei, gaze fixed on the little fox demon imprisoned and ignorant for thousands of years, offering her reassurance, “No, you’re one of the few women Yu Wuxia genuinely cares for. You must be different to him.”

The fox demon, upon hearing this, cast her eyes down shyly, as if blushing, “Actually, when everyone said that the Azure Bird was Yu Wuxia’s true love, I didn’t think so. I was the first to pull Yu Wuxia down from his pedestal. Surely, in his heart, I’m the one he truly loves.”

“Mm.” Si Lan nodded heavily in agreement, though inwardly he marveled at another romantic saga unfolding. “So, saving the Six Realms hinges on you.”

The fox demon smiled faintly, neither confirming nor denying, but seeming persuaded.

The three entered Línglóng Mountain, where each step illuminated a swastika-shaped golden light, yet oddly, Línglóng Mountain, which was once easy to traverse, now seemed endless.

Uncertain, the fox demon tried to edge closer to them but found Haowei beside her. She then moved to Si Lan’s side, clutching a handkerchief that had appeared from nowhere, coquettishly murmuring, “It’s so scary here. I think I’d rather wait for you outside.”

Si Lan glanced at her but his gaze fell beyond her. “I’m afraid it’s too late for that.”

Before he finished, a swarm of venomous bees charged at them. Haowei shielded them, conjuring a barrier, but strangely, the bees pierced through.

Haowei suddenly realized, “These bees aren’t real. It’s an illusion.”

They had fallen under an illusion the moment they set foot on Línglóng Mountain.

Si Lan was about to speak when a deep, unfamiliar male voice suddenly sounded in his ears. Once heard, he could not forget it — Yu Wuxia.

“When Haowei’s divine injury resurfaced, he killed ninety thousand evil spirits of the Ninth Abyss. While these spirits had their reasons for existing in the Six Realms, Haowei indiscriminately slaughtered them and was thus sent to the Mortal Realm for judgment.”

As Si Lan listened to Yu Wuxia’s words, he surveyed his surroundings. Having fallen under the illusion, both Haowei and the fox demon were nowhere to be seen. They, too, must have been ensnared in their own illusions.

Si Lan didn’t understand why Yu Wuxia was saying this, but he furrowed his brow, “Haowei has already been judged by the Mortal Realm for his crimes.”

“Hehe, judged by the Mortal Realm…” Yu Wuxia’s laughter seemed to echo mockingly overhead, “But the Mortal Realm was created by the Heavenly Realm. How could it be impartial?”

“Yu Wuxia, Haowei’s divine injury persisted because of your intentional disruption of his tribulation. In this sense, you are the mastermind. Bemoaning injustice, but it’s you, the mastermind, who has evaded punishment, which is the real injustice.” Si Lan’s tone was firm and resolute as he countered Yu Wuxia.

Yu Wuxia chuckled again, perhaps amused by Si Lan’s retort, realizing Si Lan wasn’t easily swayed.

Suddenly, his presence pressed against Si Lan. Si Lan felt momentarily uncomfortable, turning back but seeing nothing.

In the next instant, hands slammed onto the back of his neck, propelling his entire body forward until his cheek pressed against an invisible barrier.

The barrier slowly morphed, revealing the illusion where Haowei resided.

Instinctively, Si Lan shouted Haowei’s name, “Haowei… Haowei…”

But no matter how he called, the Haowei before him couldn’t hear his voice. They were close yet separated by an invisible divide.

Yu Wuxia’s voice lowered another notch near Si Lan’s ear, “In fact, the sacrifice for the Línglóng Mountain array is not Quze, but you.”

Si Lan raised his head in astonishment. Though he couldn’t see Yu Wuxia’s face, he seemed to behold something horrifying beyond, his eyes slightly trembling.

Yu Wuxia’s fingers were icy as they pressed firmly against his neck. Whatever he did, Si Lan couldn’t move, feeling a burning sensation coursing through every inch of his flesh and blood under the array’s eerie symbols, sprawled painfully against the barrier as he gazed at the illusion of Haowei.

At this moment, Haowei was in combat mode, his eyes turned crimson-gold, exuding an aura of menace. His sword spun like a flowing arrow in the sky, step by step assessing the surroundings, a hint of concern on his face as his lips moved ever so slightly.

Si Lan understood. He was calling his name.

“I’ve embedded the Línglóng Mountain array within you. Imagine when Haowei breaks the array, every strike will land on you. How do you think he will react?”

He would go mad.

Si Lan thought about this, unsure where the strength came from, he clenched his fingers, wanting to rise and resist the person behind him. But he was still held high in the air by the opponent’s invisible hands.

He was just about to endure the pain and pull out the Xuanxin Whip when Yu Wuxia’s voice sounded again.

“This formation, either it’s planted within your body, or within Quze’s body. Jun Li, who do you think is more suitable for it, you or Quze?” Yu Wuxia’s voice carried a clear smile, yet it felt chilling and terrifying, each word uttered like venomous snakes coiling around Si Lan’s body.

Si Lan shuddered, countless chills pervaded his heart, his eyes involuntarily reddened, and he slowly lowered his arm.

He was higher in cultivation than Quze, yet Quze had a greater chance of survival.

“If your target is me, then release Quze.”

“Of course.”

The strange burning sensation at Si Lan’s neck continued to sear his nerves, he knew this was Yu Wuxia’s formation within him. His lips were pale, yet his voice still retained a hint of calmness, “Why are you tormenting Haowei like this?”

“To make the heavens unable to tolerate themselves.”

After finishing speaking, Yu Wuxia burst into laughter again, his voice filled with disdain and arrogance towards all living beings.

He could have directly trapped Haowei in the Pentagram Formation, but that wouldn’t be as interesting.

Haowei was a “variable” deliberately added by the heavens in this lifetime, so he wanted to slowly drive this variable insane, turning him into a ruthless thug.

In this way, it was like giving the heavens a hard slap in the face.

Chapter 66

In fact, it was not only to make the heavens unable to tolerate themselves, but also to destroy Si Lan.

“Jun Li, the one who wants to harm Haowei is not me, it’s you.” After Yu Wuxia laughed, his voice surged into Si Lan’s ears like a venomous snake.

“You could have chosen to place the formation inside Quze’s body. That way, even if Haowei harms or kills Quze, you wouldn’t feel so guilty. But you insisted on implanting it into your own body. Isn’t this harming Haowei?”

“You should understand Haowei’s feelings for you. If he knew he hurt you even a bit, he might not be able to bear it and hurt himself tenfold. So it’s your generosity, your kindness, your compassion that led you to choose to hurt the person you love the most.”

As soon as Yu Wuxia finished speaking, on the other side of the barrier, Haowei was suddenly attacked by a monster that looked humanoid but was as withered as dead wood.

The monster moved swiftly and ghost-like, attempting to approach Haowei but was directly cut in half at the waist by a long sword. However, the pain transmitted to Si Lan.

It felt like being punched in the abdomen, causing his face to pale.

At some point, Yu Wuxia released him.

He fell to the ground, trying to stand up, but then felt as if his abdomen had been slashed open again, the tearing pain rolling out from his flesh and blood. Clearly, there were no visible wounds on his body, yet the pain was unbearable.

In such agony, he still couldn’t help but complain inwardly—what kind of sword did Haowei take? Why did it hurt so much when it slashed someone? When they returned, he would definitely ask him to change the sword.

He held his abdomen with one hand, curling the other tightly to support himself, trying to stand up. At that moment, another sword struck him heavily, sending him flying backward, crashing into a giant rock. A metallic taste of blood instantly overflowed from his throat.

“Haowei.”

He tried to contact Haowei with his spiritual sense, but couldn’t reach him.

After slaying two monsters, Haowei’s sword transformed into countless shadows, swirling high in the air, poised to break through the illusion.

Si Lan glanced at those sword shadows, his legs trembling. He estimated that if those hit him, he’d either die or be crippled.

Silently consoling himself, he knew his unique constitution could turn others’ blood into flesh, hopefully aiding his own survival. As long as he could still drink blood, he should be able to make it through.

While restraining his breath, he observed the situation inside the barrier. Yu Wuxia had left at some point.

All around was pitch black, save for his breathing—no other sound. He cast a spell to conjure firelight, illuminating his surroundings. It was then he realized he was inside a massive stone coffin.

To be precise, the illusion he was in was a stone coffin.

The entire coffin was icy cold and pale white, covered inside with densely packed runes. Glancing at them, he recognized them as Soul Calamity curses.

Soul Calamity was an extremely malicious curse. Those cursed would have their souls destroyed, never to reincarnate.

He frowned. It seemed Yu Wuxia had prepared this stone coffin for him, intending to use his physical body to activate the Pentagram Nine Heavens Formation, then let his soul perish.

Yu Wuxia probably didn’t want the heavens to find him again for reincarnation, intending to completely eliminate this “threat” in this lifetime.

Estimating that Yu Wuxia had left, but was likely still lurking in the shadows, enjoying the spectacle of him and Haowei in dire straits, Si Lan looked up into the air and gestured obscenely.

Outside the barrier, myriad swords flew in the sky, their illusions interweaving like flowing arrows, slowly approaching the formation, seemingly waiting for the right moment to attack.

Si Lan leaned closer to the barrier, quietly watching Haowei’s face.

Suddenly, he remembered that since Haowei had returned to his adult male form, he hadn’t really looked at him seriously. Now, for the first time, he observed him in such a scene.

His eyes welled with bitterness as he reached out, gently touching Haowei’s eyebrows and eyes through the barrier. When he first met Haowei, he was just a little white dragon—haughty, silly, delicate, and noble, but without the imposing and cold aura.

So even though Haowei later returned to his adult appearance, Si Lan didn’t fear him much.

Actually, Haowei’s face was very cold and stern. When others saw him, they felt a strong sense of intimidation.

Especially with his slightly downturned eyes and raised eyelids, he naturally exuded a chill and disdain, as if he held everyone in contempt.

The illusions of the long swords spun faster and faster, causing debris to rise from the ground, nearly obscuring Haowei’s figure. Si Lan closed his eyes and silently apologized in his heart.

He had already suppressed his breath. If his soul truly scattered, he would only become an ordinary skeleton. He hoped Haowei wouldn’t find out. If Haowei didn’t know he was dead, he wouldn’t suffer.

“Haowei…” Si Lan murmured his name.

At that moment, the swords that were about to break through suddenly halted, standing motionless in mid-air.

The scattered stones and dust on the ground fell instantly, revealing Haowei’s face. Haowei took steps, slowly walking towards Si Lan.

Si Lan’s heart suddenly raced. He stared at Haowei intently, unsure if Haowei had sensed something.

Haowei reached out his hand, separated by an invisible barrier, pressing it against the palm of the other. He chuckled inexplicably, his chest trembling slightly, thin mist gathering in his eyes. “Haowei…”

Haowei’s dark eyes hardened. He withdrew his sword without breaking the formation.

He speculated that although Haowei couldn’t see him, he might have sensed something amiss.

Suddenly, three ghastly monsters like dried corpses emerged within the formation, gnashing their teeth and lunging towards Haowei. He had to dodge their attacks, refusing to strike back.

As if intentionally provoking Haowei, more and more monsters surged within the formation, almost filling the entire illusionary space.

Haowei, for some reason, refrained from attacking them. After several evasions, he was scratched by a monster, leaving a bloody mark on his face and tearing his robes, blood faintly visible.

Si Lan knew this was Yu Wuxia forcing Haowei to act.

Cornered, Haowei remained cold-faced, his eyes unreadable. Suddenly, behind him, the stones propped against him morphed into a gaping maw. Si Lan couldn’t help but cry out, “Haowei… Haowei… Watch out behind you!”

Unfortunately, Haowei couldn’t hear him. By the time he noticed, the creature had already lunged, and instinctively, he attempted to attack with his sword, only to be recalled by it.

He sidestepped the attack but was still caught, the creature’s sharp fangs slicing down his arm, tearing away flesh.

Blood instantly soaked through his white robe.

Si Lan’s heart rose to his throat, voice hoarse. “Haowei, Haowei… Strike back quickly!”

He shouted for a while, but Haowei outside the barrier showed no response, perhaps due to his injured arm or exhaustion. His dodges slowed, injuries accumulating.

Fearing for Haowei’s life if this continued, Si Lan knew Haowei couldn’t break free, but he could enter and save him. Thinking this, he drew the Mysterious Heart Whip, the whip wrapping around the barrier like a spirit serpent.

The barrier trembled, faint swastika-like characters appearing. This was the door of the barrier. The whip transformed into a sharp blade, hacking repeatedly at the swastika.

After a few strikes, a crack appeared in the barrier. Si Lan’s expression eased slightly, but upon seeing the situation inside the formation, his face darkened again.

Haowei lay defeated on the ground, his white robes soaked in blood. Trying to rise, he was kicked down by the creature. Its desiccated fingers turned into blades, slashing his back and reaching for his core.

Despite everything, Haowei did not resist and endured the pain as his core was forcibly extracted.

The monster, ecstatic upon retrieving Haowei’s core, swallowed it eagerly, emitting another triumphant howl. It then tore open Haowei’s body, crushing his spiritual platform.

In an instant, a majestic aura akin to a fallen true dragon overflowed from within the formation, shaking the valley and startling myriad beasts.

Si Lan stood dumbfounded for a moment, then broke down screaming, “Haowei… Haowei, get up quickly!”

Ignoring everything, he attacked the barrier frantically. Finally, the crack on the swastika grew larger, revealing a gap. He swiftly transformed into wisps of smoke, breaking through the barrier without hesitation and rushing into the formation.

He reached Haowei’s side, lips trembling as he called out his name, but found himself unable to utter a sound.

Haowei was covered in blood. When Si Lan touched him, his hand came away red. He froze in shock, unable to speak, tears streaming down his face.

Suddenly, the monsters within the formation turned to dust, vanishing into thin air.

Behind them, Yu Wuxia’s figure appeared.

Previously appearing only as a phantom, this was the first time Yu Wuxia had manifested in his true form.

He wore a lead-gray kasaya, with one thousand and eighty imperial yellow prayer beads hanging from his chest. His figure was tall and straight, his clothes moving without wind.

Though his face was handsome like a monk, the sensual red mark on his forehead suggested a wild and unrestrained nature.

Looking at Haowei in the pool of blood, a hint of regret crossed his face.

Regret that Haowei had died so easily.

Originally thought to be a divine emperor, transcending the cycle of reincarnation and immortal, Haowei had unexpectedly died at the hands of a few ordinary monsters.

It seemed that during their divine exchange some time ago, Haowei had transferred too much of his cultivation to Si Lan.

But Si Lan, that little fool, probably still didn’t realize that Haowei’s death was a result of his own actions step by step.

Walking slowly to Si Lan’s side, Yu Wuxia’s eyes gleamed with mockery. “He ended up like this all because of you.”

Si Lan said nothing, seemingly immersed in profound grief, hands clenched tightly. He wouldn’t cry, wouldn’t move, turning into a puppet, silently sitting by Haowei’s side.

Yu Wuxia, in a chilling tone, said, “Heaven has again erred, sending something utterly useless.”

With those words, Yu Wuxia reached out to crush Haowei’s physical body with a palm strike. However, in that moment, when his hand was about to strike, the corpse, already blurred by the blood on the ground, suddenly turned around with lightning speed, grabbing Yu Wuxia’s elbow. A strange black rune along with it, quickly entering his body.

Yu Wuxia was about to cast a spell to retaliate when Si Lan, who had been struggling with grief, unexpectedly opened his tightly clenched hands, revealing a long sword formed from the little finger of Heaven, and lunged towards Yu Wuxia’s heart without hesitation.

After being stabbed by the long sword, Yu Wuxia’s body seemed to split open, a golden light spilling out of his chest. In panic, he used a spell to push the two of them away, his figure staggered backwards for several steps.

He spat out blood, reaching out directly to the chest with the Tao finger

He slowly let his gaze fall upon Haowei. After Haowei stood up, all wounds and bloodstains on him vanished completely. His robes were as white as snow, and his face handsome and dignified.

Haowei looked at him coldly.

He couldn’t believe it. “Aren’t you supposed to be dead?” He had believed Haowei to be dead because when a true dragon fell, causing spiritual fluctuations that shook mountains and rivers and made all beasts cry out.

Therefore, he had been willing to reveal his true form.

Originally, he couldn’t be sure he could defeat these two, so he had refrained from revealing himself until he saw Haowei supposedly dead. But unexpectedly, this turned out to be a play arranged for him!

“Yu Wuxia, you’re not the only one who can use illusions.” Haowei spoke while glancing cautiously at Si Lan, a hint of wariness in his eyes.

Si Lan sneered, a trace of crimson still lingering in his eyes, as if he hadn’t fully recovered from his earlier grief. “We’ll settle the score when we get back.”

Haowei had cast an illusion, yet hadn’t informed him!

This had caused him to almost faint from shock when he had seen Haowei’s injured appearance within the barrier, blood almost overwhelming his heart.

He only realized something was amiss when he walked to Haowei’s “corpse” and saw a blurred hand reaching out from under the robe, the little finger hooking his own finger.

He instantly understood that Haowei hadn’t actually died; Haowei was deliberately acting.

When the figure of Yu Wuxia appeared behind him, Haowei’s little finger hooked again, and he vaguely understood what was going on. So he quietly manifested a divine tail finger technique and concealed it in his palm.

Fearful of exposing the trick, he maintained an appearance of extreme grief and numbness throughout.

“Alright.” Haowei leaned slightly towards Si Lan’s ear, his voice carrying a magnetic tone. “When we return, punish however you like.”

Si Lan’s ears inexplicably turned red, glaring at him.

How could such a straightforward statement sound tinged with flirtation?

At this moment, Yu Wuxia watched the two “flirting” before him, blood mist swirling in his eyes uncontrollably. He slowly closed his fingers, attempting to stop the bleeding with internal energy.

After the divine tail finger struck him, he couldn’t directly kill Haowei, but he was severely wounded.

He felt his cultivation dissipating like flowing sand, hindered from using internal energy to stop the bleeding by the black runes Haowei had placed within him. The collision of energies within him caused a sweet and bloody taste to surge up again.

Haowei looked at him and said, “I’ve read the runes you inscribed on the Pentagram Array in my father’s Taiwei book. I knew it was a curse embedded in the array, and I guessed you might have integrated the Pentagram Array into someone’s body. While fighting those two monsters, I suddenly understood your intention. You intended to use my hand to kill someone.”

Thus, Haowei devised a counterplan, pretending to be killed while secretly casting an illusion within the array when he fell, making Yu Wuxia mistakenly believe that his spiritual energy had dissipated and the true dragon had fallen.

However, the one thing he hadn’t anticipated was that Yu Wuxia had actually integrated the array into Si Lan’s body, not Quze’s. Thinking back to how Si Lan had entered the array with his soul almost shattered, he felt uneasy about it.

Chapter 64 – Go to the Demon Realm to propose marriage

Chapter 64

Yu Wuxia finished speaking and his figure instantly dissipated.

Si Lan’s expression tightened inch by inch, containing his emotions. He turned around to gaze at the newlywed couple.

Their bridal chamber was their tomb, and after returning to their respective tombs, they would repeat this scene again and again.

The sedan bearers with their eyes sewn shut and the matchmaker went to fetch the bride, while the young groom stood in front of the wedding hall, awaiting the bride’s return, to bow in ceremony and enter their tomb.

To break this illusion, their obsession must be resolved.

And this obsession, isn’t it also Yu Wuxia’s obsession?

Yu Wuxia led him into this illusion, probably wanting him to experience this feeling as well.

Just as Si Lan hesitated about what to do next, a rift tore open in the illusionary night sky, and a tall figure with a graceful and ethereal aura stepped through the opening.

Surrounded by faint starlight, his silhouette seemed dreamlike and surreal as he approached, lotus flowers blooming under his feet, dispelling all evil spirits.

Suddenly, terrified screams of evil spirits echoed in the barren forest.

Si Lan never expected Hàowēi to emerge from the illusion so quickly and find him within this illusion. Seeing him unharmed, Si Lan’s tense expression relaxed slightly as he asked, “Are you injured?”

Si Lan shook his head.

Hàowēi wanted to take him out of the illusion directly, but Si Lan pointed to the eerie procession of the bridal party and said, “This is the challenge Yu Wuxia has set for me.”

Hàowēi glanced at the scene in the illusion and said lightly, “These should be the things Yu Wuxia once encountered.” Hàowēi’s previous illusion was in a torrent, where his father chose to rescue a distant daughter on the shore instead of a pregnant stranger nearby.

The woman, harboring resentment after death, trapped his father in an endless cycle. To break the cycle, his father had to sacrifice personal feelings for the greater good, choosing to save the pregnant stranger and abandoning his own daughter.

But no matter how many thousands of times he repeated it, the father steadfastly chose his own daughter each time, leading his soul unredeemed and forever trapped in that scene.

Haowei didn’t dispel the illusion, but out of concern for Si Lan, he broke through the illusion directly and entered the painting of “Lan” to find Si Lan.

Si Lan: “I want to dispel this illusion.”

These illusions are not only the obsessions of those involved, but also the obsessions of Yu Wuxia. Perhaps, once dispelled, they could shake the obsession of Yu Wuxia to some extent.

Haowei nodded lightly and glanced at the paper couple in the midst of their wedding ceremony, roughly guessing the reason, “Do we need to make them give up their marriage?”

“Yeah.” Si Lan landed beside the paper people, following them into the bridal chamber while explaining, “Originally, these two were in a stepmother-stepson relationship. After falling in love, they were discovered by villagers, subjected to extreme punishment, and died. After death, they turned into vengeful spirits and killed the villagers. Later, they were punished and trapped in this cycle for eternity.”

Haowei: “This punishment was probably imposed by Yu Wuxia.”

Si Lan sighed helplessly, “That’s what I think too.”

Haowei looked at the two graves inside the new house, estimating this place to be a graveyard; the joyful hall and bridal chamber before him were just illusions.

After the paper couple finished drinking their wedding wine, they were about to enter the graves. He cast a spell to create a barrier, blocking their path and preventing them from entering the graves.

They continued mechanically stepping forward, just moving step by step in place.

Haowei tried to communicate with them but found it impossible.

Do these paper people lack souls?

Approaching them, he discovered their mouths were stuffed with something like mud, preventing them from speaking at all.

Haowei: “Their mouths are stuffed.”

“What?” Si Lan also stepped forward to observe, his brow furrowed, “It seems after they died, the villagers feared they would complain to the King of Hell, so they stuffed their mouths.”

No wonder after becoming vengeful spirits, they hated the villagers so much that they slaughtered the entire village, severed their heads, and threw them into the dead wood forest, while their bodies were hung on trees.

Si Lan fell silent for a moment, then transformed into “Elder Sister” to express sympathy for their plight first, then advised them to let go of their obsession and reincarnate early.

Talking until his throat was dry, the two still did not respond. Si Lan could only awkwardly say, “If you can’t speak, even a little physical response would do.”

The two continued mechanically raising their legs, intending to enter the graves, completely ignoring Si Lan.

Si Lan realized that persuading them with this method would not dispel their obsession. He surveyed the scene of the joyful hall and bridal chamber, trying to find a clue.

His gaze finally fell on the memorial tablet. On the woman’s tablet, the left side displayed the name of the son, which was the stepson’s name, Song Lian. On the right side, there was the character for “deceased,” and in the center was written the alias of Lady Shen Tai Ru, born as Ying Yu Sheng Xilian.

The man’s tablet was much simpler, perhaps because his parents had passed away early and they had no sons or daughters. Only the four large characters “Tomb of Song Lian” were written in the center, and behind the tablet were Song Lian’s birth date and horoscope.

He picked up the tablet and examined it closely.

“Is there something wrong with the tablet?” Haowei asked.

“These two tablets are not placed on top of graves, probably because they are dissatisfied with them,” Si Lan replied.

Haowei’s brow furrowed at the sound of this, instantly understanding Si Lan’s meaning.

This deeply infatuated couple had repeated their wedding ceremony countless times, probably because each time they hadn’t truly become husband and wife.

Even after their deaths, the tablets erected for them still defined their relationship as stepmother and stepson.

This also meant that in the underworld, according to ghostly regulations, the stepmother and stepson still couldn’t marry.

But they had died and had to enter the graves, go to the underworld, and be bound by ghostly regulations.

Thinking of this, Si Lan couldn’t help but feel a pang of emotion.

From birth to death, people are bound by various rules, and it is these rules that prevent true liberation.

He gently waved his hand, and all the densely carved characters on the woman’s tablet disappeared, leaving only nine words: “Tomb of Song Lian’s wife, Shen Yingyu.”

Then, he placed this tablet next to the tablet of “Song Lian’s Tomb.”

Haowei withdrew the barrier, and the two paper figures, with wooden expressions, lifted their heads and walked into the graves.

Seeing this, Si Lan couldn’t help but feel nervous, his gaze fixed on the graves, unsure if this could resolve the couple’s entanglement.

However, after waiting for a long time without seeing any changes, thinking it had failed and about to rethink his strategy, the two paper figures unexpectedly walked out of the graves again.

The two paper figures still had pale faces with no expressions, but they knelt towards Si Lan.

They had been trapped here for a long time, wanting to change their relationship from “mother and son” to husband and wife and enter reincarnation. However, the words carved on the tablet defined them as “mother and son,” making it impossible for their last obsession to be fulfilled, preventing them from becoming a true couple each time.

Now, Si Lan had finally fulfilled their obsession.

The lips of the two figures moved slightly, their mouths filled with filth and debris, unable to speak. They could only bow their heads towards Si Lan again to express gratitude.

After bowing, the boundless black illusion before them turned into scattered silver starlight. The two paper figures had fulfilled their wishes; their figures disappeared in an instant, and the evil spirits in the dead wood forest screamed incessantly. The dark illusion around gradually gave way to scenes of reality.

Si Lan and Haowei broke free from the illusion and returned to the real world.

They stood on a desolate burial mound, facing two graves that were almost flattened by wind and rain. The tablets on the graves, however, looked unusually new, clearly engraved with words:

“Tomb of Song Lian.”

“Tomb of Song Lian’s wife, Shen Yingyu.”

Si Lan’s lips curled slightly, a sense of relief washing over him. Although he hadn’t done much except change the words on the tablets, the thought of those two ghosts finally fulfilling their long-standing wish and being able to reincarnate peacefully filled him with joy.

He imagined Yu Wuxia must be watching him right now. Looking up at the sky, he said, “I did it.”

Yu Wuxia uses “desire” to ensnare them.

While he uses “emotion” to free them.

Emotion gives rise to desire, desire turns into attachment, and attachment dissolves in emotion.

In this world, myriad things cannot escape the word “emotion.”

After Si Lan came out, he immediately used his divine sense to contact Song Cheng and Song Ye, learning that they had already rescued Xie Li from the cliff.

“Your Majesty, Xie Li kept clamoring to find Quze, and now we have brought him to Linglong Mountain.”

“…” Si Lan.

He had intended to instruct them to stay at Zhuyun Peak and not wander around, but the words stuck in his throat. Feeling somewhat helpless, he said, “How could you allow Xie Li to…”

Song Ye slightly embarrassedly said, “Your Majesty, we thought he was just an ordinary demon monk. Thinking that my brother and I could rescue Quze, we pursued them to Linglong Mountain.”

“Linglong Mountain is filled with numerous formations. Don’t move outside Linglong Mountain.”

After Si Lan finished his instructions, there was no response for a long time, and he sensed something was wrong: “Song Cheng, Song Ye…”

“Your Majesty, I’m here.”

Song Cheng spoke up, his voice somewhat low and embarrassed, “Your Majesty, we accidentally entered a formation. This formation is pentagram-shaped, and inside it’s full of monsters and demons…”

“…” Si Lan.

At this moment, little Xie Li also joined in with his divine sense, saying, “Your Majesty, when are you coming? Wah, I’m so scared. That demon monk looks very powerful, and the monsters inside this formation are so fierce…”

“Don’t be afraid, I’ll come over right away. Remember to stay close to the two protectors and don’t wander around.” Si Lan rubbed his brow, suppressing the urge to curse. They dared to go to such a dangerous place as Linglong Mountain, and not only that, they had even broken into the pentagram formation.

He felt like he had just started a game, only to find that all his teammates had been captured by monsters.

“Alright, Your Majesty, wah, we’ll wait for you…”

“Mm.”

After saying that, Si Lan sighed, feeling helpless, and informed Haowei about Xie Li and the Song brothers’ accidental entry into the pentagram formation.

Haowei’s expression turned serious: “Then let’s hurry to Linglong Mountain.”

The two didn’t dare delay and immediately cast their spells to rush to Linglong Mountain. Si Lan knew that this trip to Linglong Mountain meant they were going to have a battle. Winning meant nothing would change, but losing would require rebuilding the Six Realms.

The world remained the same, but the people and events within it had changed.

However, from the illusionary pair of paper people, Si Lan gained inspiration. He wondered if Yu Wuxia’s weakness might also lie in his desires?

If he could unite him with the Great Immortal Jia Heng, could it prevent disaster?

Lost in such wild thoughts, Si Lan couldn’t help but say aloud, “But if that’s the case, wouldn’t Great Immortal Jia Heng have to sacrifice his chastity?”

Haowei glanced at him askance, his eyelids slightly lowered, and then heard him say, “For the Six Realms, a temporary sacrifice of chastity is also a Bodhisattva’s act of self-sacrifice and salvation of others, so the most urgent task is still to persuade Great Immortal Jia Heng to sacrifice himself…”

“…” Haowei.

Unable to tolerate any longer, Haowei reached out and lightly tapped the back of his neck, saying calmly, “If it were that simple, you wouldn’t have reincarnated so many times without successfully stopping Yu Wuxia.”

Si Lan awkwardly responded, “Perhaps it was because I didn’t successfully persuade Great Immortal Jia Heng before?”

“Oh, even if that’s true, how do you feel you can persuade Great Immortal Jia Heng in this lifetime?”

Si Lan pursed his lips in response.

Haowei sensed he had sounded a bit confrontational just now, so he lightly coughed and softened his tone, saying gently, “Yu Wuxia is naturally rebellious. Regarding Great Immortal Jia Heng, he’s entirely driven by his own will, which only stirs up his rebellious nature. You could say Great Immortal Jia Heng is his desire and his emotion, something he wants to attain, but it’s not a weakness.”

Si Lan found this reasoning quite convincing and couldn’t help but sigh, “When I was a mortal, my only worry was not having enough money. Back then, flying around in the sky seemed like an unattainable dream. I thought that achieving enlightenment would make everything perfect. Now I realize, being human has its own hardships, and being a demon has its own burdens.”

Haowei thought Si Lan might be having a relapse of “dissociative identity disorder” and saying strange things again, so he reached out and pulled him closer, soothingly saying, “Don’t think too much. You forgot what Zhiyou Shenjun said—this lifetime, you have me.”

Perhaps Yu Wuxia knew he was a variable, which was why he came to disrupt him during his tribulation with the Divine Emperor.

The corner of Si Lan’s mouth twitched slightly, almost showing a smile, “If I have the chance to get close to Yu Wuxia and use the Transmission Return Spell, I might just find his weakness.”

Then, seemingly lost in thought, Si Lan added, “The magic I obtained from Jiuying this lifetime is also a variable.”

“Mm.” Haowei gently traced his finger around the back of Si Lan’s neck, silently calming his emotions.

Although Si Lan hadn’t shown any obvious signs of stress these days, Haowei could feel the pressure and tension in him. His breathing deepened slightly when he rested at night, and his brow furrowed deeply.

Upon reflection, Si Lan seemed more like someone with a solitary destiny.

For over a thousand years, he had never truly felt at ease.

The more Haowei understood him, the more he felt sorry for him. As the Great Demon King who grew up in such illusions, without a bold and optimistic heart, he might have long succumbed to melancholy.

The silhouette of Linglong Mountain was already faintly visible in the sky. At the summit, strange golden lights appeared, weaving into bizarre shapes like blooming flowers.

Suddenly, Haowei spoke up, “After we finish at Linglong Mountain, I’ll have Wudao take people to the Demon Realm for marriage proposals.”

Si Lan remained silent for a while before saying, “Okay.”

He hoped that this lifetime would finally break the cycle, so he wouldn’t meet this arrogant little white dragon again.

Chapter 63 – Paper Ghost Wedding

Chapter 63

“Demon Monk?”

“Yes… yes…”

Haowei and Si Lan exchanged glances again, surprised that Yu Wuxia had already replaced Xue Rong.

“However, after defeating the Old Ghost King, Prince Xue Rong’s cultivation fluctuated greatly, only in recent years becoming unfathomably deep, unknown to outsiders.”

Si Lan speculated that Yu Wuxia had initially reached some sort of agreement with Xue Rong, first borrowing Xue Rong’s body, and later completely taking over.

He couldn’t help but recall the first time he encountered Xue Rong in the ghost realm. At that time, he hadn’t found his mother’s soul, and after causing a ruckus in the ghost palace, he sat at the Tianmen Gate with a long whip, watching a group of old ghosts bully a young ghost below.

Unable to stand it, he wielded his whip to chase away the old ghosts.

The young ghost, with a pale face, got up from the ground and bowed in his direction. At that time, he was not yet of age, and his figure looked almost the same age as the young ghost.

The young ghost looked at him, choosing his words carefully, “Xue Rong thanks Brother for saving my life. May I know Brother’s name?”

“Si Lan.”

The young ghost bowed in thanks again, standing under the Tianmen Gate, and left after a moment’s gaze.

The incident of him causing a ruckus in the ghost palace was soon known by Si Shaoxun. Si Shaoxun caught him, dragged him to apologize to the Old Ghost King in the ghost palace, and then took him back to the demon realm to be punished in confinement.

Years later, the next time he heard the name Xue Rong, it was when Xue Rong had become the King of the Underworld.

He felt a bit sentimental, asked the ghost messenger a few more questions, and then released him. He and Haowei went to check Xue Rong’s sleeping quarters.

Xue Rong’s quarters were unlike other eerie places in the underworld, instead, they were bright and clean, filled with light. On the walls hung four paintings of plum blossoms, orchids, bamboo, and chrysanthemums. Below the paintings, two incense sticks burned softly. Behind eight screens, there was only a single rope hanging in mid-air, serving as a bed.

Besides this, the room was empty.

Haowei walked to the paintings and cast a spell in the air. The plum blossoms in the painting trembled, and the petals formed an illusion, subtly changing the scene in the painting with simple strokes.

In the snow, plum blossoms falling, a light gray robe tightly wrapped around a yellow official’s robe. Under the robe, a slender, pale ankle was exposed, the foot arched and toes curled tightly, as if enduring some pain.

With just a few strokes, everything was depicted vividly.

Si Lan’s ears turned slightly red, and his gaze moved to the other three paintings. The paintings of orchids, bamboo, and chrysanthemums also changed. The orchid hung down, and as jade dew dropped, in the previously blank space appeared two intertwined figures.

A fragile waist like willow on jade stone, two pale legs wrapped around the person above. Silent, yet more evocative than sound.

Si Lan could no longer bear to look and turned away, grumbling, “How can Yu Wuxia be so shameless?”

He had actually hung four erotic paintings of himself and Immortal Jiaheng in his room, intending to view them at leisure.

If Immortal Jiaheng knew, he would probably be furious.

Haowei said, “These four paintings are manifestations of Yu Wuxia’s desires.”

Si Lan frowned, “In these paintings, Immortal Jiaheng looks younger than Yu Wuxia. Could it be that the Immortal Jiaheng we saw before deliberately appeared old?”

“Yes, I suppose Immortal Jiaheng, knowing Yu Wuxia’s intentions, showed himself in that form.”

“Even if Immortal Jiaheng is handsome, how could Yu Wuxia fall for him?”

The entanglements between the two of them across past and present lives were hard to believe, considering that the monk’s disciple who endured cutting flesh and bones would fall for the one who devoured him.

Haowei glanced at Si Lan with deep meaning, “Sometimes, liking someone can be just a glance.” It isn’t that complicated.

After speaking, Haowei, recalling something, took out the erotic painting given to him by Shanshi Immortal and placed it beside the “Plum, Orchid, Bamboo, and Chrysanthemum” paintings. The scenes in the five paintings seemed to move, half-hidden, indicating a taboo and unknown love.

At this moment, a hand suddenly reached out from the “Orchid” painting near Si Lan, pulling him into the painting. He saw another hand reach out from the “Plum” painting and grab Haowei.

Before they could react, they were already pulled into another time and space.

Si Lan felt like he was falling rapidly from the sky, stabilizing himself in panic after landing. Instinctively, he called out, “Haowei,” but there was no response.

It was pitch dark around him, and he couldn’t see anything. He cast a spell to create a small flame, illuminating the illusion around him. He found himself in a forest of dead trees, seemingly scorched by fire, with no leaves on the branches and the bark wrinkled in layers.

The flame flickered in the wind, casting shadows of the trees that seemed to weave a dense, sinister net over him. As the flame dimmed, he could faintly see headless corpses hanging from the branches, a truly terrifying sight.

But when the flames lit up, the branches were clean and empty.

He didn’t know where he was but knew that Yu Wuxia had dragged him in here, intending to trap him in an illusion. Just as he was pondering what was important enough for Yu Wuxia to trap him, Xiao Xie Li’s voice suddenly rang in his mind, asking for help.

“Honored One, senior brother… senior brother… sob sob…”

Si Lan asked, “What happened to Quze?”

“Senior brother was captured, Honored One. I was also beaten up and thrown to the bottom of a cliff, sob sob…” Xie Li’s words were garbled and trembling due to his crying, making Si Lan’s heart ache even more.

Si Lan steadied his mind, “Did you see who captured Quze?”

“Sob sob, it was a monk. The monk even pinched my face.”

A monk… Could it be Yu Wuxia?

Why capture Quze?

He suddenly thought of the last person to be sacrificed on Linglong Mountain. He had initially thought the sacrifice would be the fox demon imprisoned under Linglong Mountain or some other nearby demon, so he hadn’t considered anyone else.

Thinking about it now, Dayong, Jiuying, and Gui Kui all had tragic fates, plagued by disaster. They had the Lone Luan evil destiny, and Quze seemed to fit this as well.

Could the last sacrifice be Quze?

Suppressing his shock, Si Lan comforted Xie Li, “Don’t be afraid. I’ll have Song Cheng and Song Ye come to rescue you. How did you end up at the bottom of the cliff?”

“Sob sob, I was beaten and then kicked down from the sky. Honored One, you must avenge me and beat that nasty monk.”

Half of Xie Li’s words were true and half were false. True, he did fall to the bottom of the cliff. False, he wasn’t beaten or kicked down by Yu Wuxia. Instead, Yu Wuxia had ridden a fierce giant beast to Zhu Yun Peak and captured Quze.

Xie Li had clung to Quze’s robe, refusing to let go despite being swatted by the beast’s wings. Later, Yu Wuxia approached, pinched his face, and, taking advantage of his distraction, tapped his forehead, causing him to fall limply from the sky.

When he woke up, he was at the bottom of the cliff.

Feeling wronged, Xie Li exaggerated his story, hoping Si Lan would seek revenge for him and Quze.

“Okay.” Worried about Xie Li’s safety, Si Lan assured him while simultaneously contacting Song Cheng and Song Ye through telepathy, instructing them to rescue Xie Li.

After that, he called out to Haowei several times through telepathy before finally getting a response. It seemed like Haowei had just been through a battle, with the faint sound of rolling boulders in the background.

Haowei’s voice was hoarse, “I’m here.”

He quickly asked, “How are things on your end?”

“I’m fine, I…” Si Lan’s words were cut short when he glimpsed the “headless corpses” hanging from the withered branches, seemingly coming to life and lunging at him. He quickly dodged the attack, drew his whip, but then saw that the “corpses” had vanished.

In the eerie silence of the withered forest, there was no sign of life except him. He accidentally stepped on a broken branch, producing a creaking sound. Quickly moving his foot, he discovered a skull beneath the branch.

Black hair oozed out of the skull’s eye sockets, entangling his feet. He immediately conjured a talisman to destroy the skull. The other skulls on the ground also started to move, breaking through the cover of the withered trees, slowly turning towards him, their dark eye sockets seemingly staring at him.

Frightened by the creepy scene, Si Lan furrowed his brow, warily watching the skulls while trying to contact Haowei again, but to no avail.

He had no choice but to take out the compass from his Qiankun Bag to check his position. The needle spun around once, was about to stop, then suddenly started spinning wildly, unable to point in any direction. At the same time, the skulls on the ground flew towards him.

He quickly drew a formation to fend off the skulls’ attacks and flew above the withered forest, hoping to get a clearer view of the strange place. However, he found that the forest had no end.

The skulls followed his movements, piling up like a small mountain, wrapping around the barrier.

In the next moment, the barrier turned into a net, enveloping the skulls. The skulls struggled desperately inside, like fierce beasts trying to tear open the barrier, but they remained firmly sealed.

At this moment, a strange sound of drums and gongs came from afar.

A wedding procession emerged from the eerie misty corner, with two figures resembling guards leading the way. Four bearers carried a red sedan chair, its red pennant swaying gently, with a matchmaker standing beside it.

As the procession approached, Si Lan noticed that all their eyes were sewn shut, dense stitches crisscrossing their eyelids like centipedes coiled in their sockets. Although their mouths were tightly closed, it was clear they were filled with dirt, preventing them from making any sound.

Seeing that they couldn’t see him, Si Lan landed next to the sedan chair and cast a spell to lift the curtain, revealing a paper bride inside.

The paper bride was painted lifelike, with delicate and gentle features, almost indistinguishable from a real person.

When he met the bride’s gaze, a chill ran down his spine. He reached out to touch the bride, realizing that the reason she looked so lifelike was that the paper was covered with a layer of human skin.

From the corpses in the withered forest, he guessed that this place was some kind of sacrificial formation, but why was there a paper bride?

Suppressing his unease, he cast a spell and sat in the sedan chair, accompanying the paper bride.

After an unknown amount of time, the sedan chair stopped. The matchmaker lifted the curtain, and a paper groom dressed in wedding attire appeared, bending down to carry the bride into the wedding hall.

The groom, like the bride, was a paper figure covered in human skin.

Si Lan looked ahead at the eerie and sinister wedding hall, noticing that both the servants and the elders seated there had their eyes sewn shut and mouths filled with dirt.

How did these people end up like this?

Could it be that they were not supposed to see the appearance of this newlywed couple?

Suppressing his inner shock and chill, Si Lan watched as the couple bowed in ceremony and entered the bridal chamber, following them inside.

The bridal chamber was bizarrely arranged, without a bed but with two graves. Walking up to the graves, he looked at the inscriptions on them. He had expected them to be plaques for a married couple, but after reading the words, he discovered they were actually for a stepson and stepmother.

He raised his head and looked at the paper people in the bridal chamber, vaguely understanding their identities. Originally stepmother and stepson, they fell in love later on.

This relationship defied conventional morality and was not tolerated by society.

Therefore, all the “people” attending this wedding had their eyes sewn shut. These “people” couldn’t see them, so naturally, they couldn’t condemn them.

“Junli.”

A deep, unfamiliar male voice suddenly echoed in the bridal chamber.

Si Lan’s heart jumped. Following the voice, he turned around and saw a figure that had appeared behind him at some point.

The figure was indistinct, its features blurred. The lead-gray kasaya moved without wind, with a deep brown rosary hanging from the chest, all indicating the identity of Yu Wuxia.

Looking at the phantom of Yu Wuxia, Si Lan’s heart raced for a moment. Instinctively, he lowered his brows and held his breath, then heard Yu Wuxia’s voice.

“These lovers, during their lifetime, one was a young stepmother who became a widow at twenty-five, and the other was a stepson who had just turned sixteen and become an adult. Clearly in love, they were condemned by society for their stepmother-stepson relationship, deemed contrary to social norms, and suffered cruel punishment, flayed alive and thrown into the river.”

“After their death, their resentment lingered, transforming into fierce ghosts who killed everyone in the village, sewing shut their eyes and silencing their mouths. Yet in doing so, they too faced punishment, trapped here day after day, repeating their obsession of becoming partners in life.”

“Junli, do you think they did wrong?”

Yu Wuxia’s voice seemed to come from a distant place, carrying fatigue of travels and a casual indifference, as if asking him, yet also speaking to himself.

This was the first time Yu Wuxia had spoken to Si Lan.

Si Lan speculated that these paper people were likely an incident Yu Wuxia had dealt with when he was a disciple of Buddhism. Presumably, it was during that time that Yu Wuxia resonated with the fate of these paper people.

“Do you know how they can break this curse? As long as one of them wavers in their heart, no longer wanting to be with the other, they can be freed from this curse and reincarnate. Yet, after a thousand times, ten thousand times, each time they chose to hold each other’s hands and enter the tomb.”

“So they did nothing wrong; it is the norms and ethics of this world that are wrong. Even if they face endless calamities, they will resist these norms and ethics to the end.”

Si Lan understood that Yu Wuxia’s words were actually hinting at his relationship with Jia Héng Immortal.

A disciple falling in love with his master was already something society could not tolerate, let alone when the disciple was a Buddhist, making it the most taboo of taboos.

Si Lan dared not speak lightly, afraid of touching Yu Wuxia’s sore spot, simply saying, “Although this world has many heartless and rigid rules, there are also people like me who oppose them.”

Pausing, Si Lan added, “How is Quze now?”

Laughter echoed from the phantom.

“If you break this illusion, enter the Pentagram Array in the Linglong Mountain, naturally, you will see Quze. However, if you come back in three days, you might only see his body.”

Chapter 62 – Go to the Demon Realm to propose marriage

Chapter 62

“Girl…”

Haowei dr4p3d a coat over himself and glanced at the sleeping Si Lan. Although Si Lan’s delicate appearance after being bullied might make him look somewhat feminine, it wasn’t to the extent of being mistaken for a woman.

Haowei stepped out from behind the curtain and lowered his voice. “Divine Mother, what brings you here?”

“I heard you brought a girl back to Yuqing Palace, so I came to see.” The Divine Mother withdrew her gaze from the curtain and looked at him with an expression that suggested he was teachable. She took his hand, leading him out of the hall while gently asking, “Which celestial maiden is she?”

Haowei hesitated. “He’s not from the Heavenly Realm.”

The Divine Mother paused, a look of conflict crossing her face. Slowly, she said, “As long as she’s not from the Demon Realm.”

“…” Haowei.

Seeing Haowei’s silence and noticing his peculiar expression, the Divine Mother felt a chill in her heart. “She… she isn’t really from the Demon Realm, is she?”

“Yes,” Haowei replied.

“…” The Divine Mother.

Haowei saw the Divine Mother’s thunderstruck expression and hesitated on how to communicate with her to alleviate her prejudice. The Divine Mother, being of advanced age, had experienced the three great wars between the heavens and demons, which had deeply ingrained her biases against the Demon Realm.

At this moment, the Divine Mother sighed deeply as if preparing herself mentally. “It doesn’t matter as long as she’s a woman.”

Having lived over eighty thousand years, she had seen many kinds of love and hate across the six realms. Being from the Demon Clan wasn’t unacceptable; age, status, and position were not the most important things. The crucial thing was that this girl had genuine feelings for Haowei and could give birth to a couple of children for him soon.

But after she finished speaking, she noticed Haowei’s strange silence again.

The Divine Mother’s arm trembled slightly. Looking at Haowei’s handsome face, she found it hard to believe. “You… you’re not going to tell me that he’s not even a woman…”

Haowei nodded with difficulty and reached out to support her, afraid she might faint.

Indeed, the Divine Mother staggered, her pearl hair ornaments shaking like her chaotic heart. With a pained expression, she grasped Haowei’s hand, her lips moving as if to say something but unable to articulate it.

She had never imposed her will on others and had rarely interfered in Haowei’s growth. But this time, Haowei’s matter truly shocked her.

After a while, she regained her composure. “A man? From the Demon Realm?”

“Yes.”

“Fine, is there anything else you need to tell me?”

“He’s also been married three times.”

The Divine Mother staggered again, gripping Haowei’s hand even tighter. She turned around, her eyes filled with helplessness and pain as she looked at Haowei. Though she said nothing, her eyes clearly asked, “What on earth do you see in him?”

Haowei spoke with utmost sincerity. “Divine Mother, the story between him and me is too complex to explain briefly. Because of various reasons, he doesn’t have a good reputation in the Six Realms. But after getting to know him, I am grateful that I saw through those unreliable rumors and understood the real him, and fell in love with him.”

The Divine Mother had never heard Haowei speak so many words in one breath. In her memory, Haowei, like his father Taiwei, was taciturn and stoic. Yet both would speak passionately for their loved ones.

So, it turns out, this deep affection can also be inherited.

The Divine Mother couldn’t help but sigh inwardly. She sat in the octagonal pavilion, her gaze drifting. Seeing this, Haowei quietly stayed by her side.

He knew the Divine Mother cared for him and wouldn’t hurt his feelings.

After a long silence, the Divine Mother recovered. “Haowei, I fear that your life has been too smooth, without much hardship, and you might be blinded by temporary happiness.”

“Divine Mother, I understand your concern. My feelings for him are not a fleeting infatuation.”

“Then… what exactly attracts you to him?”

Haowei smiled. “Divine Mother, you should ask what doesn’t attract me to him.”

The Divine Mother changed her question with resignation. “Fine, then what doesn’t attract you to him?”

“Nothing.”

“…” The Divine Mother.

Seeing Haowei’s firm demeanor, the Divine Mother felt both helpless and amazed. She became increasingly curious about Si Lan. “May I see this girl—no, this young man? What kind of person has so thoroughly captivated you?”

“He’s still sleeping. Perhaps you could visit another day.”

Upon hearing this, the Divine Mother couldn’t help but click her tongue inwardly. Haowei, who hadn’t even married yet, was already considering his future spouse, seemingly forgetting about his grandmother.

She teased, “I see he must be very tired, having suffered a lot. This sleep must be deep.”

Although Haowei’s face showed no change, the tips of his ears turned inexplicably red. He lowered his head slightly without saying a word.

“Well, whether it’s a woman or a man, if you want to be with him, you need to show some sincerity and send someone to the Demon Realm to propose soon. If he’s reasonable, ask if he’s willing to leave the Demon Clan and join our celestial ranks.”

“Yes,” Haowei replied, his face tight.

The Divine Mother stood up and walked out of the octagonal pavilion, sighing deeply again. Thanks to her years of self-cultivation, she had managed to accept many things, including her dignified and graceful grandson being with a man from the Demon Clan who had been married three times.

As she was leaving, the Divine Mother seemed to remember something and reminded him, “I can accept him as your consort, but the celestial beings may not. Haowei, you need to handle this matter carefully.”

“Yes,” Haowei bowed his head.

“Luckily, you have a child, so at least there won’t be no successors, which makes me feel a bit better.”

“…” Haowei.

Haowei couldn’t bear to tell the Divine Mother that the child was actually a form he had taken. He feared that revealing this would be too much for her to handle, so he kept it to himself.

After seeing the Divine Mother off, Haowei stood silently under the octagonal pavilion, then used his spiritual sense to communicate with Yu Wudao to find out how much the celestial realm knew about him and Si Lan.

Yu Wudao quickly responded, informing Haowei that there were many rumors in the Heavenly Realm, mostly badmouthing Si Lan. The celestial beings were divided into three factions regarding their relationship. One faction supported their love and approved of them being together. Another faction strongly opposed it, believing Haowei was blinded and not thinking clearly. The third faction remained neutral, watching the other two factions argue.

Haowei instructed, “Wudao, first try to stop the false rumors, then spread the news about the upcoming union between the Heavenly Realm and the Demon Realm.”

“Understood.”

Haowei thought Si Lan was still asleep, but when he lifted the curtain, he met a pair of pitch-black eyes.

Si Lan had woken up at some point and was leaning against the bedrail, his expression unreadable.

Haowei walked up and touched his forehead, noticing Si Lan’s slightly flushed cheeks and thinking he might have a fever. He then checked his elbow to confirm his condition.

“Do you feel unwell?”

“No.” Si Lan got out of bed, initially pretending he hadn’t heard anything, but he couldn’t help asking, “I won’t leave the Demon Clan.”

Haowei realized that since Si Lan was awake, he must have heard everything. “The Divine Mother wasn’t forcing you to leave the Demon Clan.”

“Oh.” Si Lan’s face turned even redder, feeling that they were discussing engagement and leaving the clan when their relationship wasn’t even fully established yet.

If Haowei could hear his thoughts and knew that Si Lan still saw their relationship as tentative, he might have been exasperated. To Haowei, Si Lan was already his consort, only lacking an official ceremony.

“Do you need more rest?”

“No, we should investigate Yu Wujia’s situation as soon as possible.”

The matter of Yu Wujia was like a heavy stone on their hearts, causing anxiety. The repeated failures to stop Yu Wujia in past reincarnations weighed heavily on Si Lan, making him reluctant to delay any longer.

“Alright.”

Initially planning to go directly to Linglong Mountain, they remembered that the God of Worry had mentioned that the Netherworld’s Tianmen Pass array had been set up a hundred years ago. So, they decided to check the Netherworld first.

Now that everyone in the Nine Heavens knew about their relationship, there was no need to hide. They openly left the Heavenly Realm shoulder to shoulder, flying towards the Netherworld’s Tianmen Pass.

Nothing significant had happened in the Netherworld for the past hundred years. They didn’t know who would be sacrificed.

Si Lan frowned the entire way, thinking through every possible candidate until he landed on an impossible name, causing his heart to clench.

He tentatively asked Haowei, “Who do you think the person sacrificed at Tianmen Pass might be?”

“Xue Rong,” Haowei replied concisely.

After subduing the Ghost Realm, Haowei had sealed the Ghost King and, to be fair, had allowed the ghosts to select a new Ghost King through a tournament. Three hundred years later, Xue Rong had challenged and defeated the new Ghost King.

Haowei had only seen Xue Rong once at the coronation ceremony and had not seen him since, except for their encounter on Yingzhou Island.

Si Lan had also thought of Xue Rong. He frowned. “The person we met last time…”

“Wasn’t Xue Rong.”

To impersonate Xue Rong and deceive them, there was only one person they could think of: Yu Wujia.

Si Lan’s expression turned ugly. If this suspicion was confirmed, he would feel like a fool being played by Yu Wujia again, which infuriated him.

But it would explain why Yu Wujia had disappeared for centuries. He must have killed Xue Rong and operated in the Netherworld in his guise.

They landed at Tianmen Pass in the Netherworld, finding the scarlet gates tightly shut. The faint sounds of wailing ghosts came from within the walls. Ghostly clouds billowed, swirling above the pass.

As soon as Haowei landed, the ghostly aura retreated as if harmed, shrinking back into the ghost gate.

In the ghost hall, Haowei grabbed an elderly ghost servant and asked, “Where is Xue Rong now?”

“His Highness Xue Rong… he left the Netherworld a few days ago and hasn’t returned.”

“How long have you served in the ghost hall?”

“More than three thousand years…”

“Do you know much about Xue Rong?” Haowei asked.

“Quite a bit…” The ghost servant replied, trembling with fear, his eyes darting back and forth between Haowei and Si Lan. “Ask me anything you want to know. I’ll tell you everything clearly.”

“Did anything unusual happen to Xue Rong over a hundred years ago?”

The ghost servant furrowed his pitch-black brows, struggling to recall. “No… nothing…”

After a pause, the ghost servant continued, “However, over five hundred years ago, something strange did happen around His Highness Xue Rong.”

“What happened?”

“His Highness Xue Rong’s cultivation suddenly increased dramatically, and he defeated the old Ghost King in the tournament. When the old Ghost King was dying, he pointed at His Highness Xue Rong and cursed him as… as… a demon monk.”

Chapter 61 – The fierce creature is as thick as a waist

Chapter 61

The celestial lords had never seen the Demon Lord’s appearance, but the moment Si Lan’s face was revealed, they felt a strong surge of demonic energy. Instantly, they guessed that Si Lan was the Demon Lord.

Within the celestial pool, mist and steam swirled around. Haowei had one hand resting on Si Lan’s waist, while the other hand was placed on the back of Si Lan’s neck. Si Lan’s hands were loosely wrapped around Haowei’s neck, their posture incredibly intimate.

Even the most clueless of the celestial lords could understand what this scene meant.

They had heard from the Divine Phoenix clan that Haowei had been acting closely with someone from the demon clan recently. They wondered just how close they could be, but they never imagined they would be sharing a bath in the celestial pool.

For a moment, the crowd was speechless, staring in stunned silence at the scene before them.

Si Lan deliberately leaned on Haowei’s shoulder, curling his lips into a provocative smile at them.

Initially, he didn’t want to put Haowei in a difficult position, so he transformed back to his original form and hid himself well. But hearing how they talked about him, he thought, why not go all out and see what Haowei would do.

Haowei pressed Si Lan’s head back down, casting a spell to erect an invisible barrier behind them, blocking the celestial lords’ view. Inside the barrier, Haowei looked down at Si Lan, noticing his slightly pouting and angry expression. He felt both annoyed and amused.

“Why did you show your face?”

“Are you afraid people will know about our relationship?” Si Lan’s heart sank a bit as he reached to push away the hands clasped around his waist, but he couldn’t budge them.

Haowei said, “They shouldn’t see you like this.” His tone dropped slightly at the end, carrying a hint of coldness.

It really was a waste to let those celestial lords see.

He himself had only seen it a few times, and he hadn’t had enough of the sight yet.

“If you dislike them, you can simply use your wings to swat them away like last time.”

Si Lan responded with an “Oh” and a half-smile, “They are your subjects. If I swat them away, wouldn’t that just confirm their belief that the demon clan is unruly?”

Haowei heard the sarcasm in Si Lan’s words and couldn’t help but lower his head, his lips brushing against Si Lan’s earlobe as he spoke softly, “They spoke nonsense. Punishing them is only right.”

“I’m not from the Celestial Realm, so how is it ‘only right’?”

Haowei’s fingers slowly tightened around Si Lan’s waist, his breath lowering until it almost touched Si Lan’s lips. “You are my empress. You can punish them however you like.”

Si Lan froze at the words “empress,” his ears turning an odd shade of red. He lifted his head to speak, but Haowei kissed him, swallowing his words.

Haowei’s kiss consumed every breath Si Lan tried to take, leaving him unable to speak. His body leaned back involuntarily, feeling the invasion of the other.

Since neither of them were wearing clothes in the bath, their skin pressed tightly against each other, feeling every texture of the other’s body. Their hearts pounded wildly.

Haowei’s dragon horns began to emerge on his forehead, and his dragon tail appeared uncontrollably. The huge white tail stirred the water, wrapping around Si Lan’s body. Si Lan was startled, the “ah” in his throat turning into muffled sounds.

Outside the barrier, although the celestial lords couldn’t see anything, they could vaguely hear the sound of splashing water and saw a white, silver-scaled dragon tail rise from the water, slapping the surface.

The celestial lords exchanged looks, their faces showing shock or collapse.

Though the Emperor was young, he was steady and focused on cultivation, becoming a god-king at a young age. The celestials took pride in having such an emperor, but they were stunned when a “bastard child” suddenly appeared, with the mother’s identity unknown. This revelation caused quite a stir among the celestials. They never expected their seemingly aloof and celibate emperor to have a child out of wedlock.

After finally coming to terms with the emperor having a child, they now witnessed the emperor entangled with the Demon Lord…

Before they could lament, enormous golden wings emerged from the celestial pool, creating an unstoppable gale that blew them out of Yuqing Palace.

A voice faintly called out, “You said I could swat them away.”

“Yes.”

Si Lan retracted his phoenix wings arrogantly, sitting on Haowei’s dragon tail. The once cold silver scales were warmed by the hot spring water, feeling comfortable against his skin. His face was still flushed, and his eyes misty from being kissed breathless.

Haowei moved his tail, the tip draping over Si Lan’s shoulder like a scarf, slowly drawing him closer.

Haowei explained, “They were likely deceived by the Divine Phoenix clan, which is why they spoke of you that way.”

“Heh, perhaps they inherently think that of me and the demon clan,” Si Lan said, understanding that being with Haowei would likely face many obstacles. Ultimately, the degree of these obstacles depended on Haowei’s stance.

Haowei replied, “I will find a way to remove their prejudices.”

Si Lan glanced at Haowei, recalling their first meeting, “You seemed to have a prejudice against me as well back then.” At that time, Haowei wouldn’t even talk to him.

Haowei’s face stiffened slightly, “Did I? It must be my nature.”

He had indeed been biased against Si Lan initially, thinking he was foolish and too merciful to his enemies, unsure of how to maintain his position as the Demon Lord.

However, as they spent time together, Haowei realized Si Lan was neither foolish nor overly merciful. He simply wanted to face everyone and everything with a more optimistic and hopeful attitude, striving to live well.

In his childhood, he had experienced the tragic death of his mother and the early demise of his father, yet he still maintained a positive and beautiful attitude towards life. Such optimism must have been inherited from Jun Li.

Seeing Haowei deny it, Si Lan didn’t expose him. Instead, he yawned. “I’m tired. I want to rest.” The fierce presence pressing against his waist forced him to feign sleepiness. He couldn’t imagine the scenario of merging with that gigantic thing, so he always found excuses to evade at critical moments.

Privately, he even considered being just spiritual lovers with Haowei, at most engaging in a divine connection. Because in reality, he was truly afraid; he once discovered that the fierce object was thicker than his waist.

He didn’t know if Haowei couldn’t control his dragon form when aroused or what, but each time he transformed, the fierce thing was terrifyingly large, making Si Lan’s legs tremble.

He even thought that if worst came to worst, he could be on top. Lost in his wild thoughts, he didn’t notice that Haowei had scooped him up horizontally and carried him back to the bed.

The bedchamber had a unique scent of burning incense. After sniffing it a few times, real sleepiness came over him, and he lay on the brocade mat, closing his eyes comfortably.

After Si Lan fell asleep, Haowei used his divine sense to communicate with the celestial lords who had been blown away by Si Lan, instructing them to accept their punishment. He then attended to some official documents before lying down beside Si Lan to sleep.

Little did they know that while they slept, the immortals in the Ninth Heaven couldn’t sleep at all. In such a short time, everyone knew that the Emperor and the Demon Lord had bathed together and had done intimate things.

This matter quickly alerted the Divine Mother. The last time the Divine Mother was disturbed was when Haowei suddenly had a bastard child.

In Yuqing Palace.

Surrounded by celestial attendants, the Divine Mother slowly descended, her elegant and noble face barely concealing her smile.

She had heard that Haowei was bathing with someone in Yuqing Palace during the day, and that person was from the demon clan. She hurried over, not even hearing the latter half of the celestial’s sentence clearly—”It’s bad enough that it’s someone from the demon clan, and a man at that, but it’s the infamous Demon Lord known for his curse on spouses.”

When the celestial attendants in Yuqing Palace saw the Divine Mother appear, they all knelt to salute her.

“Greetings, Divine Mother.”

“Where is His Majesty?”

“His Majesty is still resting.”

“Resting with that person?”

“Yes…” the attendant hesitated.

The Divine Mother’s smile deepened immediately. Ignoring the attendants’ attempts to stop her, she directly pushed open the bedchamber doors and walked in.

She was eighty thousand years older than Haowei. Tawei was her son, born when she was thirty thousand years old, and Haowei was born when Tawei was nearly fifty thousand.

Therefore, even though Haowei was already an adult, in her eyes, he was still a child and not subject to so many formalities.

Inside the bedchamber, Haowei awoke the moment the Divine Mother pushed open the door and cast a spell to lower the curtain, hiding Si Lan’s figure.

In the instant the curtain closed, the Divine Mother had already sneaked a peek, seeing a beautiful person with loose black hair and a high nose bridge.

This beauty’s lips were slightly swollen, as if bitten by something.

Suppressing her laughter, the Divine Mother said, “Haowei, aren’t you going to introduce this young lady to me?”

Chapter 60 – Underwater teasing

Chapter 60

The fox demon finished speaking and leaned closer to examine the portrait again. The person in the painting had a cascade of black hair flowing behind them, with an enchanting and affectionate expression. At first, she couldn’t recognize who it was, but upon closer inspection, she started to feel that this woman was none other than that bald donkey?

Yet, the man beside this woman in the painting, the fox demon recognized at a glance—it was Yu Wuxia.

She couldn’t help but cover her mouth, pointing at the portrait, and looked up at Haowei, “How could you depict such a painting when Yu Wuxia hates that bald donkey so much? Isn’t this insulting Yu Wuxia?”

Haowei and Si Lan remained silent.

The two couldn’t bear to tell her that this portrait might have been painted by the very Yu Wuxia she was referring to.

Haowei glanced again at the figure in the painting and asked, “Are you sure this woman in the painting is Immortal Jiaheng?”

“Yes, she was deliberately depicted as a woman,” the fox demon muttered as she recalled, “Looking at it like this, the appearance of this bald donkey’s long hair bears a resemblance to several of my sisters.”

Si Lan and Haowei exchanged glances, suddenly understanding something.

Initially, when this fox demon seduced Yu Wuxia in the Immortal Hall and wasn’t killed by him, it might not have been because Yu Wuxia harbored desire for her, but because she bore some resemblance to Immortal Jiaheng.

As for the other female demons later on, they probably bore some resemblance to Immortal Jiaheng to varying degrees.

They hadn’t previously considered the relationship between Yu Wuxia and Immortal Jiaheng in this way. One reason was that Immortal Jiaheng had an elderly appearance and was tens of thousands of years older than Yu Wuxia. Another reason was that Immortal Jiaheng had long been respected across the Six Realms, and placing romantic sentiments on such a revered monk seemed like tarnishing his reputation.

However, they hadn’t expected that this most unlikely speculation would turn out to be the correct answer.

Haowei rolled up the scroll and put it into his spatial pouch. “Where is Yu Wuxia now that he has fallen into the demon path?”

“Yu Wuxia is in the Floating Pagoda Hall, a palace he established himself. However, it was later destroyed by that bald donkey, and then I was sealed in Linglong Mountain, knowing nothing,” the fox demon said, her eyes darting around as she tentatively continued, “Why are you so curious about Yu Wuxia’s affairs? Has Yu Wuxia done something…”

Having been trapped in the demon-sealing cauldron for these days, the fox demon had thought over many things. Although these two in front of her hadn’t disclosed their identities, she couldn’t sense their aura at all, realizing their cultivation was much higher than hers.

Two people with such profound cultivation had been asking about Yu Wuxia all along, indicating that Yu Wuxia must have caused a big stir.

Haowei did not respond to the fox demon’s question. He picked up the demon-sealing cauldron, intending to seal her back inside. Seeing that she was about to be enclosed in the ethereal cauldron once more, she hastily pleaded in a coquettish tone, “Immortal Lord, whatever you want to know, this servant will tell you everything. Can you let me breathe some fresh air a little longer, Immortal Lord… Ah…”

Before the fox demon’s finger could touch Haowei’s body, she was already sucked into the demon-sealing cauldron. Thinking she was now inside the cauldron and that no one outside could hear her, her sweet voice instantly turned sharp and biting, teeth gritted as she muttered, “Pah, looks like a widower, just like a man who’s lost his wife.”

Haowei remained silent.

Si Lan raised an eyebrow inquisitively.

Firefly Illusion Technique was on the verge of collapsing. The disciples of the Immortal sects who had fallen into the illusion beneath the sacred altar were slowly waking up. Haowei and Si Lan decided to leave the sacred altar first.

The Immortal of Parinirvana had already learned that Immortal Jiaheng hadn’t died, so the subsequent handling of affairs would be left to the Thirty-Three Heavens to decide.

These past few days, Haowei and Si Lan had been under great mental strain, traveling from Mount Gushu to the Thirty-Three Heavens without proper rest.

Haowei brought Si Lan back to the Yuqing Palace, intending to eat, bathe, engage in intimacy, and then sleep. However, just as they were bathing, a group of celestial beings gathered outside the hall.

During this period, Haowei had rarely been in the Celestial Realm. Even when he returned, he stayed only for a few days before leaving again. The celestial beings had accumulated a pile of matters for him to handle. Despite knowing he was currently bathing, they still came looking for him.

Haowei rubbed his temples. He had just spent a lot of effort persuading Si Lan to bathe together with him, and their bodies weren’t even fully wet when this group arrived.

He was about to instruct the attendants to send them away when Si Lan spoke up, “Why not see them first? What if there’s an urgent matter?”

Haowei managed affairs across the Five Realms, inevitably encountering major events. Besides, even if these matters weren’t resolved today, they would still need attention tomorrow. It was better to handle them sooner rather than later.

After speaking, Si Lan cleverly restrained his demonic aura, transforming into a small “wild chicken” floating like a doll in the wisps of steam. Unless one looked closely, his figure was practically invisible.

Seeing Si Lan take on this tiny form, Haowei found it exceedingly adorable. He gently propped up Si Lan’s small body from the hot spring water with his hand. Si Lan stiffened for a moment, then pushed away Haowei’s fingers and glided into the mist with a flick of his wings.

Haowei smirked faintly. “Let them in.”

Upon receiving the order, the celestial beings hurried inside, kneeling around the hot spring pool. “Greetings, Your Majesty.”

Haowei had his back to them, arms resting on the edge of the pool rocks. His voice carried an inherent authority, calm yet commanding, “What urgent matters do you have that require you to disturb Us in such haste?”

Perhaps due to the moisture in the air, his voice, besides its authoritative tone, also carried a deep, magnetic quality that sounded particularly pleasing as it mingled with the rising steam.

Si Lan, who was diving in the water, heard this and pursed his small beak.

Not bad for putting on airs.

“Your Majesty, please intercede for this old minister. The flowers and plants I painstakingly cultivated were trampled to pieces by Lord Rixiao’s mount, the great water buffalo!” Yuanmo Immortal Sovereign rushed in first, covering his face with his sleeves as he tearfully complained, genuine or not.

Rixiao Immortal Sovereign defended himself nervously, “It’s not a water buffalo, it’s a battle rhino.”

Haowei sighed inwardly as he rubbed his temples. He never expected they would barge in on him even while he was bathing, just for matters concerning flowers, plants, and animals. He spoke in a stern voice, “Rixiao, about your mount…”

“Your Majesty, it’s not a water buffalo, it’s a battle rhino,” Rixiao Immortal Sovereign argued persistently. More concerned about his mount being mistaken for a water buffalo than the complaint itself.

Haowei fell silent for a moment. “Regardless of what it is, you failed to discipline it properly, leading to the destruction of Yuanmo Immortal Sovereign’s flowers and plants. You should compensate him.”

“Your Majesty, I’m willing to compensate him, but he needs to stop calling my battle rhino a water buffalo,” Yuanmo Immortal Sovereign retorted coldly. “It was originally a big water buffalo. Just because it’s covered in armor and flies in the sky, does that mean it’s no longer a big water buffalo? What’s the point of calling it a battle rhino? Has it ever seen a battlefield?”

“You…”

Seeing the two about to argue again, Haowei interrupted them. “Enough. Yuanmo, refrain from ridiculing Rixiao’s mount in the future. Rixiao, compensate Yuanmo for his losses promptly. This matter is settled. If you two are not satisfied, you may argue outside and refrain from disturbing Us again.”

The two exchanged glances, still disgruntled, before leaving in a huff.

Haowei cast a sidelong glance at the immortal lords behind him. “If you have trivial matters concerning flowers and plants, there’s no need to waste my time.”

The immortal lords fell silent.

After a moment of hesitation, one of the lords stepped forward and said, “Your Majesty, a few days ago, Prince Er of the Jing River caused torrential rain in the mortal realm due to drunkenness, neglecting his duties for a full twelve hours. This resulted in eight cities being submerged, causing great suffering among the people. My palace has received countless complaints demanding punishment for Prince Er. However, although he is not a Dragon King, he has close ties with the East Sea. Punishing him may have widespread implications. Your Majesty’s decision is needed.”

Haowei asked, “Prince Er of the Jing River is…”

“He is the second son of the Chief of the Blue Shrimp Clan.”

Si Lan, who had already started to leave, heard this and turned back. His head surfaced, his two wings lightly paddling like oars.

Suddenly, Haowei remembered that Si Lan had mentioned before that the Blue Shrimp Clan of the Jing River was responsible for wiping out the Quze family. His voice turned cold, “Handle it as it should be. There’s no need to favor the East Sea.”

“Yes,” the lord replied and retreated.

After hearing the gossip, Si Lan was about to leave again but was caught by Haowei gripping his wings. He dared not struggle, fearing the immortals behind him might notice something amiss. He stiffened as Haowei pulled him close.

His back pressed against Haowei’s chest, but his front was restrained by the other’s distinctively fair fingers, almost like a hostage, tightly held in place.

“Your Majesty, Queen Phoenix has sent a confidential message, stating that Princess Quyu and Princess Zhuju have both been attacked consecutively by the Demon Sovereign Si Lan. She suspects that the Demon Clan is planning to attack the Phoenix Clan, and requests Your Majesty’s intervention on behalf of the Phoenix Clan.”

Si Lan…

His head, still groggy from soaking in the hot spring, suddenly snapped alert.

He hadn’t expected the Phoenix Clan to have such thick skin, preemptively accusing him of planning to attack them.

Tsk tsk.

Thinking back to yesterday on Gushu Mountain, the Phoenix Clan must have realized the depth of his relationship with Haowei and didn’t dare to accuse him directly. Instead, they found a few unsuspecting immortal lords to step forward on their behalf.

“Your Majesty, the Phoenix Clan has deep ties with the late Emperor Taiwei and the Divine Lord Chiyu. When the Demon Clan bullies the Phoenix Clan, they are bullying us. Heaven cannot stand idly by.”

“The recent chaos in the mortal realm and the slaughter of ten thousand spirits on Yingzhou Island were both orchestrated by the Demon Clan. Now they provoke the Phoenix Clan in Heaven. It seems they intend to break the truce agreement between Heaven and the Demon Realm soon. Your Majesty, Heaven must be vigilant.”

Two more lords stepped forward to speak up for the Phoenix Clan, their words resolute and convincing, as if they had witnessed the Demon Clan’s actions firsthand.

Inwardly, Si Lan couldn’t help but sneer. These lords were distorting facts and reasoning to goad Haowei into confronting the Demon Clan. If they didn’t play fair, why should he? He’d resort to any means necessary.

With this thought, he glanced up through the misty haze at Haowei. Haowei’s head was slightly tilted back, his jawline clear but his expression obscured. Si Lan couldn’t resist a mischievous and indulgent urge.

To tease him. To playfully tease him.

The lords couldn’t gauge Haowei’s current mood, continuing, “Your Majesty, it is said that the Demon Sovereign Si Lan practices forbidden dark arts. Every decade, he conducts a widespread selection of concubines, not sparing even men. By the second day, all those sent to his chambers turn into dried corpses.”

Meanwhile, the demon sovereign they spoke of now slowly slid down within Haowei’s embrace, coming to rest against Haowei’s lower abdomen.

Just as Haowei was about to reach out to lift him, the demon sovereign suddenly transformed into human form, almost submerged in the water, only revealing a fair face, pressed against Haowei’s lower abdomen.

When Haowei lowered his head, his gaze met a pair of dark, watery eyes. Before he could speak, his body tensed, a rush of heat climbing from his lower abdomen.

Si Lan stared at him unwaveringly, his eyes intense, long lashes curled with a hint of moisture, a touch of red in their depths, making his gaze alluring and provocative.

The fair complexion framed by flowing hair behind him accentuated his allure, his full lips now gently touching Haowei’s lower abdomen, leaving a warm sensation. Haowei’s breath caught, his hand instinctively touching Si Lan’s nape.

Si Lan’s kiss slowly disappeared under the water, occasionally letting out a bubble or two.

Haowei’s eyes reddened, his throat moved, suppressing the tense emotions and strange pleasure.

Si Lan was angry.

But this was quite an effective way to vent his emotions.

At that moment, a voice from behind continued heedlessly, “The late Emperor once said that the Demon Realm would become a major threat to Heaven in the future. Perhaps now is a good opportunity to bring the Demon Realm under control, apart from that Demon King.”

Haowei murmured softly, curling his fingers slowly, whether in response to the lord behind him or to Si Lan’s actions in front of him.

Upon hearing this murmur, the lords grew bolder, “Your Majesty, there have been reports of you appearing together with members of the Demon Clan on Linglong Mountain, behaving intimately. You must tread carefully. The demons are cunning and treacherous; some are skilled in seduction magic. Don’t let yourself be deceived or make mistakes.”

As soon as the lord finished speaking, a voice tinged with water and mist suddenly emerged, “Oh, skilled in seduction magic, you say?”

Si Lan’s hands rested on Haowei’s shoulders, his face slowly emerging from in front of Haowei. Perhaps just emerged from the water, his features were veiled with a thin mist, lips almost dripping blood-red, more alluring and dazzling than a beautiful ghost. His half-closed eyes now held a mocking smile, watching them.

The lords stood dumbfounded at the sight of him, as if they had seen a ghost.

Chapter 59 – Immortal's Palace

Chapter 59

Just as Ah Yi finished speaking, a cold aura instantly pervaded the cave, pressing towards Ju Zhu. Ju Zhu’s face immediately turned pale, her body trembling uncontrollably as she knelt down on the ground, her knees weak and unable to support her.

Her complexion was pale, fear seeping through her delicate features as she pleaded with Ah Yi, “My lord, the Divine Array was passed down to me from my aunt, who inherited it from Princess Fang Yi. Therefore, I… I am not fully aware of the Divine Array’s secrets. Please forgive me, my lord.”

With these words, Ju Zhu presented herself as completely innocent, though in reality, she understood everything. She believed that the secrets of the Divine Phoenix Clan were unknown to anyone else.

Haowei casually remarked, “I heard that Princess Fang Yi’s body was like a dried corpse when she died, with her blood inexplicably vanished.”

Ju Zhu’s eyes widened instantly. Embarrassed and ashamed, she looked up at Haowei. Just a second ago, she had been relieved that no one knew about this, but now Haowei had exposed it.

How could Haowei know about this?

Her lips trembled, wanting to refute Haowei, but facing his condescending gaze, a sudden fear surged through her heart, paralyzing her tongue.

Accustomed to pride and nobility, she had never felt so humble and timid before. For a moment, she couldn’t find the words to say.

The divine array set by Ah Yi was formed from his obsession, integrated into Princess Fang Yi’s body, only guarding her.

If they wanted to obtain the divine array, they could only do so after Princess Fang Yi’s death by drinking her blood, or perhaps they had killed her by drinking her blood while she was still alive.

With this thought, the hostility in the cave intensified, pressing down on Ju Zhu. Black winds rose suddenly like agile serpents, wrapping around Ju Zhu’s body. She felt as if under attack and suddenly vomited blood.

After the black aura dispersed, Ju Zhu transformed back into her original form as a divine phoenix, collapsing on the ground.

A dense formation woven like a golden net slowly emerged from her body, flying towards Ah Yi. She passed out directly from the pain, the divine array forcibly stripped from her body.

Ah Yi withdrew the formation and glanced at the unconscious Ju Zhu, ultimately deciding not to punish her.

She was Princess Fang Yi’s relative, and hurting her would displease Princess Fang Yi.

Ah Yi extended his hand, and the formation gradually shrank, landing in his palm before returning to his body.

His lips moved slightly, his voice echoing in the cave, “Emperor Haowei, my divine array was used by someone to commit murder?”

Haowei looked at Si Lan and nodded.

“In that case, it is my fault. I did not consider it thoroughly,” Ah Yi said, lowering his head. His breathing weakened, almost imperceptible within his cloak.

Si Lan withdrew his gaze from the unconscious Ju Zhu. Originally, he had many reproaches in his heart and had intended to hold Ah Yi accountable, even obtaining a fragment of the divine will. Unexpectedly, it was resolved so lightly.

From Ah Yi’s words, it seemed he had also been deceived by the Divine Phoenix Clan.

Forget it. Ah Yi was now weak and on the brink of godly death. There was nothing to argue about with a “dying” man.

Si Lan didn’t want to disturb Ah Yi’s final moments. After exchanging a glance with Haowei, they decided to bid farewell to Ah Yi. “My lord, we shall take our leave.”

Ah Yi nodded faintly. He still didn’t know that in this lifetime, due to his mistake, Si Lan had lost his mother early.

As Haowei and Si Lan left, they also cast a spell to take the unconscious Ju Zhu with them.

But as soon as they flew out of Mount Gushou, a group of divine phoenixes flew over. Sensing something wrong with Ju Zhu, they had come to rescue her.

After bowing to Emperor Haowei, the divine phoenixes turned their gaze to the unconscious Ju Zhu, surrounding her. They then warily looked at Si Lan, as if worried he might do something wrong.

“Emperor Haowei, what happened to the princess?” one of them asked.

Haowei replied calmly, “Lord Ah Yi has withdrawn the divine array from Ju Zhu.”

“What? How could this happen?”

“Did your demon do something?” This was directed at Si Lan.

The divine phoenixes glared fiercely at Si Lan, gripping their weapons, ready to fight.

Si Lan reluctantly restrained the Xuanxin Whip, prepared to face the consequences if the Divine Phoenix Clan sought retribution. At that moment, he heard Haowei’s voice.

“Jaheng Immortal has entered Nirvana.”

Si Lan couldn’t believe it. “Really?”

“Yes.” Through his divine knowledge, Yu Wudao informed Haowei about the matters of the Thirty-Three Heavens. Jaheng Immortal had been severely injured and recovering in Ling Mountain Cave since the last attack. Unexpectedly, within a few days, he had entered Nirvana.

Jaheng Immortal was second only to Shanshi among the Immortals of the Thirty-Three Heavens. His sudden Nirvana shocked the Six Realms. Yu Wudao hurriedly informed Haowei, who needed to return to oversee the aftermath.

Knowing that Haowei would probably return to the heavenly realm, Si Lan said, “In that case, I will accompany you back.” Jaheng’s sudden Nirvana likely hid some secrets.

Furthermore, by seeing Jaheng Immortal’s body, he could cast the Purification Curse to witness his memories from the year before his death. He had used this method to uncover the deep-seated enmity between Lou Yu and Zhong Li.

Haowei nodded slightly. Immediately, Si Lan transformed into a “wild chicken,” a small form hiding in Haowei’s embrace.

He couldn’t walk openly in the heavenly realm with his true identity, to avoid arousing suspicion.

On the side of Mount Gushou, even though the divine phoenixes were discontented, they didn’t dare to stop the two from leaving, only glaring angrily at Si Lan.

Si Lan didn’t look back but could feel those solidifying gazes piercing through Haowei’s body, pinning him down.

He smirked coldly. He had no intention of letting Ju Zhu off easily. Knowing her vengeful nature, she would blame him for stripping the divine array from her, likely adding old grievances to new ones.

He needed an opportunity—a moment to kill Ju Zhu and leave the Divine Phoenix Clan helpless and unable to retaliate.

He pondered aimlessly, unaware that he had followed Haowei all the way to the Thirty-Three Heavens.

Apparently conscious of his status, Haowei had swapped his black martial attire for a white robe trimmed with gold threads. His waist was adorned with a cloud-patterned belt of the same color, his black hair tied up with an ink jade crown, every strand neat and tidy.

The celestial horse seemed to have been waiting outside the Thirty-Three Heavens for Haowei, swiftly approaching with a carriage upon his appearance. Haowei gracefully entered the sedan chair.

Although the sedan appeared modest from the outside, inside it revealed a hidden world, resembling a palace with spacious elegance, wisps of clouds lingering. Within the grand hall, tea and refreshments were already laid out on the table.

Si Lan looked around like someone new to the city, his dark eyes scanning the surroundings. Haowei placed him on the table, realizing he hadn’t eaten for some time.

“Are you hungry?”

Si Lan nodded, folding his wings and sipping water from the cup’s edge, then pecking at a few pastries. He was indeed hungry, but his mind wasn’t on eating much at the moment.

Every word spoken by Supreme Youshen seemed like thunder in his mind, resonating loudly. Though the thunder had ceased, it left his mind pitted and unsettled.

He noticed Haowei was far calmer than him, only showing emotion when he recalled the moment Yuwuxia pierced his heart with a sword. Now, he appeared composed, his expression serene.

Haowei lifted a cup of hot tea from the table and drank, Si Lan realizing it was the same cup he had just used.

Transformed into a “wild chicken” appearance, his sharp beak had been in the cup while drinking, feeling somewhat embarrassed at the thought.

How could Haowei be so careless…

Clearly, his cup of tea was right there; he couldn’t understand how it got mixed up.

Just as he was about to remind him, greetings sounded from outside the carriage.

“Greetings, Your Majesty.”

Passing Buddhist disciples respectfully saluted Haowei’s carriage. The celestial horse pulled the carriage to the center of the Thirty-Three Heavens before stopping.

Si Lan was interrupted by the noise outside and turned to see Haowei had finished his tea. Haowei had also eaten the pastry Si Lan had pecked holes into with his sharp beak.

His lips twitched, but he didn’t say a word.

Haowei tucked him into his arms, lifting the curtain and stepping out of the carriage.

Feeling uncomfortable, he flew onto Haowei’s shoulder, noticing a group of celestial beings following the carriage, a dense crowd that made Haowei appear prominent.

Standing on Haowei’s shoulder, he couldn’t help but mock Haowei for being so particular; everywhere they went in the heavenly realm, he rode in a carriage with a group of heavenly soldiers and generals trailing behind, quite imposing.

Yet Haowei never seemed to put on airs around him, sometimes even making him feel like Haowei’s shadow, silently accompanying him through thick and thin.

Haowei glanced at him with a slight tilt of his head, instantly halting his random thoughts and looking ahead.

Countless Buddhist disciples knelt beneath the bright altar, chanting sutras. Above the altar, the Great Eternal Immortal sat on a lotus throne, his back leaning forward, one hand in a gesture of blessing, his face indistinct.

Behind him, a circle of gentle golden light shimmered, solemn and dignified.

Cranes circled above the sky, their mournful cries echoing. Below the sky, Buddhist disciples stood with hands clasped together, eyes closed, reciting sutras for the salvation of the Great Eternal Immortal.

Following the protocol, Haowei led the hundred celestials in completing the sutra recitation for the Great Eternal Immortal, then approached to offer incense. After these rituals, he conversed with the Immortal of the Perfect Nirvana.

“Some days ago, I came to listen to the Great Eternal Immortal’s teachings, but I never expected that in just a few days, he would attain parinirvana,” Haowei remarked.

The Immortal of the Perfect Nirvana explained, “Your Majesty, the Great Eternal planted a cause a thousand years ago, and now he has reaped its fruit. For him, this is also a form of atonement.”

Haowei asked again, “Was it because of his injury that Jia Heng attained parinirvana?”

“Yes,” replied Shanshi, clasping his hands together. “Amitabha.”

Haowei bowed respectfully to Shanshi in farewell, then spoke quietly to both Shilan and him, “After Jia Heng Immortal’s parinirvana, these Buddhist disciples will perform a forty-nine day ritual of salvation in front of the altar.”

“Why is it so long?” Shilan had intended to approach Jia Heng Immortal to use the Purification Curse, hoping to uncover memories from before his death. He found it peculiar that Jia Heng Immortal passed away before the activation of the Five-Star Nine-Sky Formation in each life.

Haowei lowered his gaze. “It’s the rule of the Thirty-Three Heavens.”

“Can we find a way to approach Jia Heng Immortal’s physical body?” Shilan glanced at the people around the altar.

“Yes.”

Night fell, shrouding the Thirty-Three Heavens in a hazy moonlight. The Immortal light above the altar remained, illuminating the scene below clearly.

Devout disciples continued to chant with folded hands, their chanting echoing softly throughout the high heavens. Though not loud, their voices carried across the entire Thirty-Three Heavens.

Strange fireflies seemed drawn by the chanting, converging towards the altar. The disciples, eyes closed in prayer, were unaware of the anomaly until they slipped into dreams woven by the fireflies.

The chanting abruptly ceased, and for a moment, the world seemed to freeze.

Shilan transformed into human form and flew with Haowei towards the altar, landing before the physical form of Jia Heng Immortal.

Even in parinirvana, his body resembled an uncorrupted sculpture, head lowered with indistinct features visible only from the side. Hanging from his chest were 1080 superior prayer beads, reflecting starlight under the Immortal’s glow.

Shilan clasped his hands in front of his chest, murmured an apology, and then touched the brow of Jia Heng Immortal to activate the Purification Curse. After completing the incantation, the surroundings suddenly changed, but the images that appeared were nothing but emptiness.

Haowei followed Shilan into the illusion and, seeing the situation, asked with a stern gaze, “What’s going on?”

“This… it means Jia Heng Immortal has been dead for a long time, at least a year,” Shilan explained.

The Purification Curse allows one to see the memories of the deceased from the year before their death. Yet the memories of the Great Eternal Immortal for that year are void, indicating that the Great Eternal Immortal before them had long since passed away.

But how could this be possible? They had just seen the Great Eternal Immortal not long ago!

The two realized something was amiss and immediately withdrew from the illusion.

Si Lan bent down to inspect the flesh of the Great Eternal Immortal. He hadn’t carefully observed him before and couldn’t see any differences. Judging from appearances alone, the face, skeleton, and aura of this flesh body seemed normal.

Haowei reached out to touch the 1080 yellow prayer beads on the chest of the Great Eternal Immortal. He had seen the Great Eternal Immortal several times before but had never seen him wear this item.

He picked up the beads, but at that moment of contact, he sensed something wrong. Each yellow bead was densely inscribed with tiny runes. However, these runes were too small to see clearly.

Si Lan also picked up a bead and examined it in his palm. “Could there be something wrong with these runes?”

Haowei nodded and forcefully broke the string of beads. The yellow beads instantly fell down, and the flesh body collapsed with a bang, gradually transforming into a skeleton.

There was still a trace of the Great Eternal Immortal’s essence and blood on the bones. That’s why Si Lan hadn’t noticed anything unusual when it first took the form of the Great Eternal Immortal.

Si Lan stared in shock, still holding a bead in his hand. He looked at the skeleton, then at the bead, murmuring, “This skeleton has been dead for over a year. It’s not the Great Eternal Immortal.”

“Hmm.” Haowei gathered the remaining essence from the skeleton, his expression growing solemn.

The Great Eternal Immortal would never fake his own death. Therefore, someone must be using this skeleton to impersonate the Great Eternal Immortal’s deceased flesh, likely having already controlled his freedom and actions.

Undoubtedly, this person was Yu Wuxia.

Si Lan couldn’t understand why Yu Wuxia would use a skeleton to impersonate the Great Eternal Immortal’s flesh.

If Yu Wuxia harbored resentment toward the Great Eternal Immortal, why not just kill him outright? Why go to such lengths?

Haowei restored the prayer beads with magic and hung them back on the skeleton. The skeleton instantly reverted to the appearance of the Great Eternal Immortal.

Looking at the “Great Eternal Immortal” before them, Si Lan murmured, “In this life, the Great Eternal Immortal faked his death. Did he also fake his death in the previous world?”

“Hmm.” Haowei’s gaze hardened. “I’m afraid there are many entanglements between master and disciple that we don’t know.”

As they were talking, footsteps suddenly approached from the side of the sacred altar. The two instinctively turned around and saw the Immortal of Benevolent Passing walking slowly towards them.

Benevolent Passing had a gentle and kind expression, dr4p3d in a yellow kasaya. He approached them and clasped his hands together, saying, “Namo Amitabha.”

Si Lan hadn’t expected to be caught off guard. Feeling somewhat embarrassed, he glanced at Haowei, who remained composed. Si Lan quietly moved behind Haowei, intending to become invisible.

“Immortal of Benevolent Passing.”

“Your Majesty, I’ve already seen everything just now.” Benevolent Passing looked at the skeleton transformed into the “Great Eternal Immortal” and sighed softly.

“Lord Immortal, you previously mentioned that the Great Eternal Immortal sowed a seed many years ago, which has now borne fruit. Could you tell us what seed the Great Eternal Immortal sowed back then?”

Benevolent Passing’s calm face showed a hint of sorrow. “Regarding the matter of the Great Eternal Immortal, I originally did not wish to speak, but I never imagined that this sinner would dare to commit such a deception. It seems that the Great Eternal Immortal is now in an unavoidable situation…”

Benevolent Passing closed his eyes, unable to hold back, and quietly said, “Namo Amitabha.”

Gaheng was a disciple of Benevolent Passing, making Yu Wuxia Benevolent Passing’s grand-disciple. When Yu Wuxia achieved Immortalhood due to his reputation of goodness across a hundred lifetimes, all Immortals wished to take him as their disciple. However, Yu Wuxia chose Gaheng.

At that time, Gaheng firmly refused Yu Wuxia, and it was Benevolent Passing’s persuasion that convinced Yu Wuxia to stay.

Sowing the seed leads to fruition. Back then, cutting flesh was the cause, and taking disciples was the effect.

Benevolent Passing had thought that under Gaheng’s guidance, this karmic effect would surely be nullified, but unexpectedly, it ended up harming Gaheng instead.

Benevolent Passing recounted all the details from the flesh-cutting in the forest to taking disciples, and concluded, “After that sinner achieved Immortalhood and worshipped under Gaheng’s seat, everything remained quiet for thousands of years. I had thought the karmic effects between them had been resolved. Yet when he performed acts of charity in the human realm, he somehow learned of his previous life as a disciple of the forest Immortal and saw Gaheng as a tiger in the forest. This led to conflict, and upon his return, he became entangled in love affairs. Gaheng finally couldn’t bear it and cast him into the demon path.”

This was not far from what they had learned, but both felt that Benevolent Passing was hiding something. Like Gaheng, he was unwilling to reveal everything.

What exactly happened that even the Immortals of the Thirty-Three Heavens remained silent about it?

After a moment of silence, Haowei spoke up, “Lord Immortal, Yu Wuxia has used his spirit as a catalyst to lay down the Five Elements Nine Heavens Formation across the Six Realms, intending to reshape them. If we want to stop Yu Wuxia, we must find his weakness. We are at a loss after reaching the Thirty-Three Heavens. We seek your guidance.”

Upon hearing “Five Elements Nine Heavens Formation,” Benevolent Passing’s expression subtly changed. He clasped his hands together and murmured, “Namo Amitabha.” After a while, he raised his head and pointed his fingertip into the void, conjuring a scroll.

It was a painting he had unexpectedly found in the hall while cleaning up “relics” left by Gaheng.

Without elaborating, he handed the painting to them. “Your Majesty, this is all I know.”

With that, Benevolent Passing departed.

Haowei took the painting and watched Benevolent Passing leave. “Thank you, Lord Immortal.”

Only then did Si Lan emerge from behind Haowei. It seemed Benevolent Passing either didn’t notice him or chose not to intervene. He sighed in relief.

Haowei unrolled the scroll, and Si Lan held his breath, observing quietly. As the scroll slowly unfolded, revealing its contents, their expressions changed dramatically.

They had expected the scroll to conceal some secret, but it turned out to be a… erotic painting of a man and a woman.

Why would Benevolent Passing Immortal give them this?

On the yellowed canvas, a woman leaned against a peach blossom tree. Her black hair was disheveled, a red mole at the corner of her eye dripping blood. Her clothes had all slipped away, revealing slender, fair legs, one foot resting on the tree trunk while the other was held by a man.

The man leaned slightly to cover the upper body of the woman, whose back was turned, so his face couldn’t be seen. His grey kasaya was half-off, barely covering his lower body, prayer beads hanging from the peach blossom branch.

From the man’s attire, one could deduce he was Yu Wuxia. As for this woman…

Si Lan glanced at the woman’s face—almond eyes teary like a clear pond, cherry lips gently holding a petal, a mix of shyness and allure. She was undeniably beautiful.

He was about to lean in closer for a better look when Haowei shot him a sideways glance and closed the scroll.

“Do you not think…” Si Lan paused as Haowei closed the scroll, “…that the woman in the painting… bears some resemblance to that fox demon?”

“Hmm.” Haowei replied in a low voice, contemplating releasing the fox demon to inquire further.

He cast a spell and conjured a demon-suppressing gourd, lifted the lid, and with a startled cry, the fox demon fell out, unprepared and stumbled to the ground.

Even so, the fox demon didn’t forget to strike a pose, slowly raising her bright face with a mix of annoyance and grievance towards Haowei, “Why are you so unappreciative of beauty?”

Haowei remained expressionless as he opened the scroll and questioned her, “Are these people your sisters?”

Seeing he wasn’t taken in, the fox demon flicked nonexistent dust off her, stood up, and with narrowed eyes, looked at the woman in the painting, “She resembles me somewhat, and also my sisters, but it’s not us.”

“Have you seen her before?”

“No,” lazily replied the fox demon, just about to look away when she noticed the crimson mole at the corner of the woman’s eye, pausing as she mused, “This… she… this mole looks like someone…”

“Who?” Haowei and Si Lan couldn’t help but ask in unison.

“Like that bald donkey.”

The Great Eternal Immortal once caught her and her little sisters, leaving a bit of an impression on her.

“…” Haowei and Si Lan.

They had both seen the Great Eternal Immortal. Although he was kind and loving, with deep wrinkles and an aged face, there was no mole at the corner of his eye. How could this woman resemble the Great Eternal Immortal?

Chapter 58 – The Dark Side of Heaven

Chapter 58

When Si Lan met the other’s gaze, a sudden sense of weightlessness swept from under his feet. Everything around him twisted into black, white, and gray lines, shimmering with faint fluorescence. Within these countless long lines flashed scene after scene.

In those scenes, it was him, yet not quite him.

He repeatedly broke through formations, arriving beneath Mount Gushan to meet the Immortal Chiyu, conversing with him.

He couldn’t hear the voices in the scenes, didn’t know what they were talking about, only saw their solemn expressions and silent gazes.

Each scene was so similar. It felt like a cycle, repeated countless times, yet each time was different.

Suddenly returning from the void of space, he still felt weightless. His body staggered backwards, but Haowei quickly reached out, wrapping his arm around Si Lan’s waist, steadying him just in time.

The Immortal Chiyu opposite appeared desiccated, with only hints of his features visible—eyes, nose, lips—but lacking any divine elegance.

In the initial scenes that flashed by, the Immortal Chiyu was tall and handsome. Later, he gradually became frail and emaciated, his features shrinking and sunken, almost resembling a dried corpse now.

What had happened in between?

Suppressing his doubts, Si Lan bowed respectfully towards the Immortal Chiyu. “God, have we met before?”

Haowei glanced at Si Lan upon hearing this.

At that moment, Zhu Ju descended from above as well, assuming a human form for easier entry into the mountain cave. She wore a deep brown gown of golden threads, flowing like flames. Behind her, a crimson silk cloak billowed without wind, while her black hair was coiled into a towering cloud bun adorned with gold and jade ornaments and white pearl hairpins.

Her face was impeccably preserved over the years, showing no signs of aging, with a subtle hint of pride that hadn’t changed.

Her gaze briefly landed on Si Lan’s face, then shifted to the hand Haowei had around Si Lan’s waist. Her brow furrowed slightly before she finally bowed to the Immortal Chiyu.

“Younger generation pays respects to the Immortal Chiyu.”

The Immortal Chiyu seemed to ignore Zhu Ju, addressing Si Lan instead. “Yes, we have met many times before.”

So, the statement “reincarnation over a hundred lifetimes” by Yu Wuxia was indeed true, indicating that he had attempted numerous times to thwart Yu Wuxia, but each attempt ended in failure.

Affected by the cycle of reincarnation, each reincarnation was a fresh start, with no memories retained. In contrast, after transcending to the realm of the Divine Emperor, the Immortal Chiyu’s memories were not reset by time and space.

All those events in the scenes must have been due to his repeated failures, hence the endless repetition.

Thinking of this, Si Lan’s mood suddenly plummeted, descending into an abyss. He couldn’t help but reach out and grasp the hand that Haowei had placed on his waist, gripping it tightly as if to dispel the overwhelming sense of weightlessness.

Haowei sensed his distress and returned the grip, the warmth in their clasped hands easing Si Lan’s uneasy heart, even without a single word spoken.

Knowing they had met many times before, the Immortal Chiyu likely already understood Si Lan’s purpose here. Thus, Si Lan asked directly, “God, how does Yu Wuxia intend to establish a new world?”

Chiyu Immortal raised a withered hand, and with black fingers, he pointed into the void. Instantly, a three-dimensional map of the Six Realms appeared in mid-air. Xuanling Mountain, Dayong Mountain, Yingzhou Island, Tianmen Pass, and Linglong Mountain were interconnected, forming a pentagram formation with the human realm at its center.

Chiyu Immortal explained, “This is the Five Star Nine Heavens Formation, centered around the human realm, linking the other five realms. By sacrificing five individuals with unique Fate Signs, using ressentment, demonic energy, and malevolent aura as the crucible, it will destroy the foundation of the Six Harmonies and the positions of the Eight Principles, causing the collapse of the Six Realms, leading to a new beginning for all beings.”

Si Lan had never heard of such a bizarre formation. He stared at the Five Star Nine Heavens Formation for a long moment before speaking.

“The five individuals with unique Fate Signs must be composed of people like Jiuying, Dayong, and Kui,” he deduced.

He looked at Tianmen Pass and Linglong Mountain. Currently, there were no anomalies there, indicating that the two individuals with unique Fate Signs had yet to appear.

Haowei hadn’t seen the visions Si Lan had seen earlier, but from Si Lan’s trance after falling into Mount Gushan and the conversation with Chiyu, he vaguely understood something, his expression turning serious.

He asked Chiyu Immortal, “Immortal, even if Yu Wuxia can activate the Five Star Nine Heavens Formation, why would Heaven allow him to act so recklessly?”

In Chiyu’s dark eye sockets, his eyeballs moved as he looked at Si Lan. “So Heaven has reversed time countless times, sending Junli’s reincarnation back, attempting to defy fate.” Chiyu was unaffected by the cycles of reincarnation, having experienced countless reversals of time and countless new worlds.

Si Lan realized that Heaven was indeed a seasoned scammer, deceiving him time and again.

“In that case, why doesn’t Heaven kill Yu Wuxia itself?” Si Lan asked.

Chiyu sighed slightly and said slowly, “Heaven cannot kill Yu Wuxia. While everyone knows Heaven has three sons, few know it actually has a fourth son: Chunfeng, Qiuyu, Dongshuang, and Xiaolei. Chunfeng takes a breath from Heaven, Qiuyu takes a tear, Dongshuang takes a sigh, and the fourth son, Xiaolei, embodies Heaven’s dark side.”

Si Lan and Haowei couldn’t help but hold their breath upon hearing this.

Beside them, Juzhu’s eyes widened in astonishment.

Chiyu’s words overturned their previous understanding of the Six Realms.

Chiyu continued, “This dark side was sealed by Heaven for tens of thousands of years. Later, it cultivated and took human form, indoctrinated by Heaven, arranging destinies of utmost goodness and sincerity, striving for virtue over hundreds of lifetimes. But unexpectedly, this dark side eventually chose the path of demonic evil.”

Si Lan suddenly understood why Yu Wuxia understood how to reconstruct the formation of the Six Realms; because he was the embodiment of Heaven’s dark side, he suddenly understood why Yu Wuxia was so confident in telling him everything in his dreams. If Heaven couldn’t handle him, what could they do?

Seeing Si Lan’s expression of helplessness, Chiyu explained, “Although Yu Wuxia comes from Heaven’s dark side, Heaven doesn’t know his weaknesses. Originally, Heaven hoped to find Yu Wuxia’s weaknesses through your repeated appearances and seal him away.”

Si Lan cursed Heaven in his heart for being so cunning.

He had undergone countless cycles of reincarnation, enduring suffering and torment, all to make Heaven discover the weaknesses in his dark side.

If Heaven had not fostered ill intentions first, how could there be a dark side? He knew very well what darkness lay in his heart. Now, it was causing turmoil across the Six Realms.

No wonder Fan Yu had chosen to resist Heaven even at the cost of his soul’s destruction. If Junli had known how shameless Heaven truly was back then, he might have joined forces with Fan Yu against it.

Si Lan silently mocked them in his heart.

Hearing this, Haowei’s facial muscles tightened, his breath deepening as he grasped Si Lan’s hand with added strength. Countless reversals of time by Heaven meant all previous attempts to defy fate had failed, and Si Lan had repeatedly perished at the hands of Yu Wuxia.

Eight hundred years since his ascension to God Emperor, Haowei had not experienced as much as Chiyu, nor had he been able to assist Si Lan. A rage welled up within him, directed at Yu Wuxia, Heaven, or perhaps himself for arriving too late and being unable to help Si Lan.

His expression darkened. ” Immortal, I want to know why we can’t seal Yu Wuxia.”

Chiyu sighed softly, tapped his fingertip, and the three-dimensional map of the Six Realms vanished, replaced by scenes from a past life.

In the vision, Si Lan was stabbed in the heart by Yu Wuxia’s sword and sealed in place, watching helplessly as the Five Star Nine Heavens Formation activated. When Si Lan finally broke free from the seal, he was already fatally wounded by the formation, dissolving into nothingness in an instant.

Chiyu explained, “The Five Star Nine Heavens Formation is activated using his own soul as the catalyst. Thus, without finding Yu Wuxia’s soul weakness, we cannot unravel the formation.”

Pausing, Chiyu continued, “You and I have discussed countless times in search of Yu Wuxia’s weakness, attempting to approach it through the seven aspects of greed, anger, ignorance, attachment, love, hatred, and desire, but all have failed.”

Si Lan was speechless, gazing at the image of Yu Wuxia. His brows furrowed involuntarily.

Yu Wuxia desired to establish a new world where there was only one species, achieving absolute equality in intelligence, talent, cultivation, and even emotions.

Si Lan didn’t know if this world would be beautiful, but he felt only a madman could conceive and carry out such a plan.

Chiyu added, “Heaven has always been dissatisfied with the Six Realms it created. Yu Wuxia inherited these dark thoughts, hence his desire to create a world of absolute fairness and freedom for all.”

Haowei glanced briefly at the scene of Si Lan being pierced by the sword and quickly looked away.

His mind roiled with anger, but he could only suppress his emotions by holding Si Lan’s hand.

Chiyu looked at Si Lan and said, “In your past life, you thought Yu Wuxia harbored resentment because Jia Heng Buddha replaced him in attaining enlightenment, considering it his weakness to exploit. But you were wrong. His obsession didn’t begin in that life.”

Si Lan turned to look at Hao Wei upon hearing the sound, suddenly remembering something serious. He had been engrossed in conversation with the Divine Sovereign just now, completely forgetting that he and Hao Wei were holding hands. In other words, they had been openly holding hands in front of the old Divine Sovereign all this time?

Si Lan’s face flushed red all of a sudden. He wanted to release Hao Wei’s hand, but Hao Wei had a strong grip. Si Lan struggled a few times but couldn’t break free. He didn’t want to make a scene, so he raised his head and pretended to smile calmly, “If that’s the case, then it’s good.”

Chiyu’s hood moved slightly, a nod in response.

Bringing up the matter of the “Divine Emperor,” Si Lan hesitated as he looked at Chiyu, then spoke, “Divine Sovereign, since you once served as the Divine Emperor, how did you end up in your current form?”

“The Divine Emperor transcended the cycles of reincarnation, no longer bound by worldly rules. Yet, the ultimate supremacy is akin to nothingness, it becomes the rule.” Saying this, the Divine Sovereign Chiyu’s eyes shifted towards Hao Wei, each word deliberate, “It will transform into an existence akin to the Heavenly Dao, for all things in this world, yet also nothingness in this world.”

Si Lan was momentarily stunned at this revelation. The fingers held by Hao Wei trembled slightly, revealing a hint of unease.

What did it mean to transform into an existence akin to the Heavenly Dao?

Could it be that Hao Wei would eventually become like the Divine Sovereign Chiyu, becoming a formless Heavenly Dao?

But wouldn’t that, from another perspective, be akin to a divine fall?

Chiyu, the Divine Sovereign, had lived for a hundred thousand years before achieving the level of Divine Emperor, yet fell within less than twenty thousand years. Meanwhile, Hao Wei inherited fifty thousand years of cultivation from Tai Wei and attained the level of Divine Emperor by the age of eight hundred.

Then… wouldn’t Hao Wei at most have a lifespan of only twenty thousand years?

Si Lan’s mood suddenly sank. He remained silent, while Hao Wei appeared remarkably calm, seeming to have asked all the questions he needed to.

However, before leaving, there was one more thing he wanted to clarify on Si Lan’s behalf.

“Divine Sovereign, do you still remember tens of thousands of years ago, before your seclusion, when you left behind the Divine Array to protect Princess Fang Yi of the Phoenix Clan?”

Chiyu seemed to recall something, his withered face showing a moment of silence before nodding.

“Yes.”

“Later, when Princess Fang Yi passed away, she passed the Divine Array to others of the Phoenix Clan. Now, it has been exploited by someone with ill intentions, turning it into a weapon of murder.”

Si Lan, hearing this, regained his senses and glanced at Hao Wei’s tense profile. He hadn’t expected that after hearing about the possibility of divine fall, Hao Wei remained completely composed, even assisting in asking questions for him.

Chiyu murmured, “Has Fang Yi died?”

“Yes, Princess Fang Yi has passed away for over ten thousand years.”

Juzhu, who had been unable to interject until now, hurriedly stepped forward, “Divine Sovereign, Princess Fang Yi was my great aunt. Now, this Divine Array follows her wishes and protects me.”

Chiyu slowly shifted his gaze to Juzhu, coldly saying each word, “Impossible. Fang Yi would never pass my Divine Array to others.” The Divine Array was a manifestation of Chiyu’s lingering obsession, guarding Fang Yi unconditionally, so Fang Yi could never have given his obsession to someone else.
