When they got home, Auntie Luo heard the voice and came out of the room. She pulled up the lapels of her pyjamas and told them that Zhan Pengcheng had just called and said he would not be back tonight.

       Pei Qing nodded, “Okay.”

Auntie Luo said to Zhan Weiyang, “Yangyang, go to bed early. You have to go to class tomorrow.”

Zhan Weiyang let out a ‘hmm’.

Auntie Luo then went back to her room and locked the door gently.

On the second floor, Pei Qing asked Zhan Weiyang to take a shower first. He walked to the balcony alone and finally stopped in front of the flower pot.

He was in a complicated mood.

Tonight, Zhan Weiyang plus Chen Youyou both spoke indistinctly, but even so, he was still able to roughly piece together the whole picture.

What kind of dating System it was and who to pursue were not important. The most important thing was that he kew that Zhan Weiyang was hallucinating.

Unable to explain why, for a moment Pei Qing felt a little scared.

He had been used to being independent since he was a child. If he wanted something, he would work hard and fight for it. There was rarely anything he couldn’t grasp.

But now he had this feeling.

Who knew when Zhan Weiyang’s points in that System would be completely deducted? Maybe they’d be gone by tomorrow. What would happen to Zhan Weiyang then? He certainly wouldn’t actually turn into a tree. Maybe he’d wake up one day and realise he hadn’t turned into a tree, suddenly realising that it had all been an illusion and delusion. Just like Zhan Weiguang had said before, maybe then he would understand.

But what if he couldn’t? What if he really felt that he had turned into a tree, without consciousness, unable to communicate, clearly alive yet as if he were dead?

Pei Qing shuddered because of this thought. He squatted down in front of the flower pot and reached out to touch the cold ceramic surface to stop his bad imagination. After a while, Zhan Weiyang finished taking a shower and walked to the balcony to find Pei Qing.

Pei Qing stood up and held out his hand to Zhan Weiyang, “Yangyang, come here.”

Zhan Weiyang walked towards him, held his hand, was pulled in front of him, and gently hugged him from behind.

Pei Qing put his arm around Zhan Weiyang’s waist. He turned his head, kissed Zhan Weiyang’s forehead, and said, “Is there any way we can stop you from turning into a tree?”

       Zhan Weiyang was thinking seriously.

       Pei Qing never interrupted him.

After a long while, Zhan Weiyang lowered his head and said, “Maybe I should go after—” He paused for a long time in the middle and finally said, “Xie Ling.”

Pei Qing was not angry but just asked him, “Do you like Xie Ling?”

Zhan Weiyang turned back and looked up at him, seeming a little surprised.

Pei Qing said in a gentle tone, “Do you like him?”

Zhan Weiyang answered without thinking, “I only like you.”

Pei Qing smiled and said, “Then it means you would rather turn into a tree to like me?”

       Zhan Weiyang nodded.

Pei Qing took a deep breath and said, “I’m very happy.”

Zhan Weiyang said, “Then I’m happy too.”

Pei Qing couldn’t help hugging him tightly. After a while, he continued to ask, “Then do we have any other solutions?”

Zhan Weiyang replied, “I don’t know.”

Pei Qing said, “It doesn’t matter. Let’s think of a solution together, okay?”

“What solution?” Zhan Weiyang asked anxiously.

Pei Qing said, “Let’s go find a doctor, okay?”

Zhan Weiyang’s body stiffened all of a sudden.

Pei Qing held him in his arms so he could clearly feel that he held Zhan Weiyang’s cold hand, rubbing his fingers gently to make him less nervous, and said to him, “The doctor may be able to cure you?”

Zhan Weiyang asked, “How? Are you going to cut me open?”

Pei Qing said, “That probably wouldn’t be necessary. At most, they are just going to use scissors to trim your leaves a bit.”

“Huh?” Zhan Weiyang was a little scared.

Pei Qing immediately said, “No, doctors won’t do that, I’m just teasing you.”

Zhan Weiyang asked him, “What will happen then?”

Pei Qing said, “You should be given medicine.”

       Zhan Weiyang frowned slightly.

Pei Qing continued, “As long as you take medicine every day, maybe you won’t turn into a tree.”

Zhan Weiyang asked him, “Is there such medicine?”

       Pei Qing said, “Yes.”

Zhan Weiyang was a little nervous, “But I don’t want to see a doctor, and I don’t want to take medicine.”

Pei Qing gently patted the back of his hand, paused for a moment, and asked, “Is it more terrible than leaving me?”

Zhan Weiyang was stunned and didn’t answer.

Pei Qing continued, “It’s not just me. There’s also Grandma and your dad. Think about it, Grandma has trouble with her legs and can’t even get up to the second floor, so she wouldn’t be able to see you anymore. Dad is so busy with work, he might not have time to water you. What would you do in the long run?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “But there is still you.”

“One day, my internship will be over. What will you do if I leave? You will never see me again.”

Zhan Weiyang turned his head to look at him in panic.

Pei Qing said, “I can still take you with me if you are like this now. If you’re planted inside a flower pot, how can I take you away?”

Zhan Weiyang thought about it seriously, “You can carry me away.”

Pei Qing said, “What if your Dad and Grandma miss you? You can’t come back by yourself. You can’t ask me to carry you back with the flower pot, right?”

       Zhan Weiyang became depressed.

Pei Qing said, “How is it? Do you want to see a doctor?”

Zhan Weiyang leaned his head against Pei Qing’s arms and whispered, “I’m scared.”

Pei Qing didn’t ask him why he was scared. If it was like what Zhan Weiguang said, Zhan Weiyang should have seen many doctors since he was a child. Who knew what he had gone through during that time, but it was clear he didn’t want to go through it again.

Zhan Weiyang was very sad. He hugged Pei Qing’s waist and said, “What should I do?”

Pei Qing had no better way, so she could only say, “Can’t I accompany you?”

       Zhan Weiyang didn’t answer.

Pei Qing suddenly said, “Then it means I would never be able to wait for Yangyang to be eighteen years old.”

Zhan Weiyang suddenly looked up at him.

Pei Qing’s tone was full of regret, “I thought Yangyang would be eighteen years old soon.” He lowered his head while speaking and stroked Zhan Weiyang’s hair with his hand.

       Zhan Weiyang said, “That’s right.”

Pei Qing patted his head, “Go to bed. You have to go to school tomorrow.” After that, without waiting for Zhan Weiyang to answer, he retracted his hand, left the balcony and walked towards the corridor.

Zhan Weiyang couldn’t fall asleep lying in bed at night.

He kept thinking about his eighteenth birthday. He regretted not reaching eighteen, as if he would miss out on some of the most important things in life.

Zhan Weiyang first lay on his back, then, after a long time of not being able to sleep, he turned onto his stomach and pulled the blanket up over his head. He quietly counted in his mind, not knowing why he was counting or what the result would be.

There were many complicated emotions in his heart, but his brain couldn’t handle these emotions, and the only result was discomfort.

He heard his heartbeat was very intense, and then it became a buzzing sound. He seemed to hear someone talking to him, but he couldn’t hear what they were saying.

At that moment, he thought, if he really turned into a tree, then he wouldn’t have to be so uncomfortable.

He lay down, imagining that he was a living tree that couldn’t move or think. His body was very heavy, sinking deeply into the mattress, and everything in front of him was still as a painting that would never move again.

At this moment, he suddenly thought of Pei Qing, saying that he couldn’t wait for him to be eighteen again. He had to wait until he was eighteen to make love to Pei Qing!

Zhan Weiyang suddenly opened his eyes and sat up from the bed. He heard his heartbeat, which had just gradually slowed down and stopped, become more intense. He was very scared, so he threw off the quilt, got out of bed and walked out of the room quickly.
