The next day, Zhan Xueqing went out with Zhan Weiguang and Zhan Xiusong, leaving Pei Qing and Zhan Weiyang at home for the whole day. Zhan Weiyang followed Pei Qing for a walk and went to the supermarket to buy some snacks before dinner.

The three of them came back quite late.

At that time, Zhan Weiyang was already lying on Pei Qing’s bed playing with his mobile phone, while Pei Qing was sitting by the window reading a book.

Zhan Weiyang heard the noise coming from the corridor. He first strained his ears to listen carefully to see if Zhan Pengcheng was back. Later, he found that the sound came from his room, and then he knew that Zhan Xueqing was back.

“Qing jie is back,” Zhan Weiyang said to Pei Qing.

Pei Qing didn’t even raise his head and said ‘En’ very lightly.

Zhan Weiyang still looked at him.

After a while, Pei Qing asked, “What are you looking at me for?”

Zhan Weiyang supported his body with his arms and said, “Are you not going to talk to her?”

Pei Qing seemed to find it strange, “Why should I talk to her?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “Wasn’t she unhappy yesterday?”

Pei Qing put down the book in his hand, looked at Zhan Weiyang, and asked him seriously, “Why do you think she is unhappy?”

Zhan Weiyang looked confused, “I don’t know.”

Pei Qing said, “Then why do you think I should talk to her?”

Zhan Weiyang thought for a while and said, “Didn’t she say you didn’t want to go out with her?”

Pei Qing remained silent for a while and then said, “I really don’t want to go out with her. Is there any problem?”

Zhan Weiyang didn’t understand, probably because he couldn’t accept Pei Qing’s straightforward remarks, and asked nervously, “Why?”

Pei Qing said, “Isn’t it good for me to play with you at home?”

Zhan Weiyang was a little happy to hear this and couldn’t help but smile, but then he said, “But you can still accompany Qing jie to play; she seems unhappy.”

Pei Qing casually flipped the book on his knees and asked Zhan Weiyang, “If I can only accompany one person, who do you want me to accompany?”

Zhan Weiyang immediately said, “Of course you have to accompany me!”

After that, he felt that he might be too selfish and added in a low voice, “You can accompany her occasionally.”

“That won’t work,” Pei Qing said, “If you ask your Qing jie about this question, she will say that I can only accompany her, not you.”

Zhan Weiyang opened his eyes wide, “Why?”

Pei Qing grabbed the book and walked to the bedside, gently patting Zhan Weiyang on the head, “Why do you think?”

Zhan Weiyang was puzzled, raised his hand and touched his head, “I don’t know.” Why ask him?

Pei Qing smiled and said, “If you don’t know, think about it carefully.”

Zhan Weiyang thought about it, but he still didn’t know. He lay on the bed, not playing with his phone but resting his head on his arm in a daze, and after a while, he said, “I’m hungry.”

Pei Qing had picked up a book to read again, but when he heard him talking, he put it down again and asked him, “Do you want to have a midnight snack?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “I don’t want to go out.”

“Then eat at home. What do you want to eat?”

       “Instant noodles?”

       “So unambitious?”

       “Add an egg?”

Pei Qing smiled, “Okay.” After saying that, he reached out to Zhan Weiyang and pulled him up from the bed.

Zhan Weiyang put on his slippers and followed Pei Qing out. Although it was the coldest time of winter, the heating was on at home, and he didn’t feel the cold even in his thin pyjamas.

Pei Qing cooked a bowl of instant noodles for Zhan Weiyang in the kitchen and added an egg. After the noodles were cooked, Zhan Weiyang insisted on taking it to the upstairs room to eat and didn’t want to sit down in the dining room to eat.

“That’s so troublesome?” Pei Qing didn’t agree. Zhan Weiyang then took the bowl upstairs by himself. Pei Qing followed him. Pei Qing casually took a bowl from the cupboard, which was not too big. After adding the egg to the instant noodles, it was quite full. Zhan Weiyang carried it upstairs carefully.

He had just reached the second floor when Pei Qing said behind him, “You forgot to take the chopsticks.”

Zhan Weiyang said, ‘Oops’ and turned around suddenly. The noodle soup in the bowl swayed, and a few drops spilt onto the floor.

He looked down and said, “Oh no.” For a moment, he couldn’t decide whether to get the chopsticks first or put the bowl back in the room first.

Pei Qing then said to him, “But I already got it for you.” He shook the chopsticks in his hand.

Zhan Weiyang said, “You made me dirty the floor.”

Pei Qing smiled and said, “You go in first, I’ll get some tissue to wipe the floor.”

At that moment, the bathroom door suddenly opened. Zhan Xueqing, who had just finished her shower, came out with a steamy presence. She glanced at Pei Qing and then at Zhan Weiyang, smiling as she asked, “Is Yangyang hungry?”

Zhan Weiyang still had the bowl in his hand and nodded. Zhan Xueqing walked towards him, got close to smell his instant noodles, and said, “It smells so good, did Yangyang cook it himself?”

Zhan Weiyang shook his head, “Qing ge cooked it for me.”

Zhan Xueqing immediately looked at Pei Qing. Pei Qing didn’t look at her but just said to Zhan Weiyang, “Hurry up and go inside, aren’t your hands sore from carrying it?”

Zhan Weiyang then said to Zhan Xueqing, “Qing jie, I’ll go in first.” He carefully bypassed Zhan Xueqing and walked towards the room. When he reached the door, he found that he couldn’t free his hands to open the door.

Pei Qing had just moved when Zhan Xueqing took the initiative to walk over and help Zhan Weiyang open the door.

Zhan Weiyang said, “Thank you,” and walked inside with the bowl.

Zhan Xueqing glanced at their room, then returned to the corridor and walked towards her room.

Pei Qing followed Zhan Weiyang into the room, first handed him the chopsticks, then took out a paper towel to wipe the floor.

When he returned to the room, Zhan Weiyang was already lying on the window sill and started eating noodles.

Pei Qing asked him, “Is it delicious?”

Zhan Weiyang nodded, and he asked Pei Qing, “Do you want to eat?”

“I don’t want to eat,” Pei Qing said.

Zhan Weiyang felt that it would be bad if he didn’t share, so he picked up a chopstick of noodles, moved some away, and invited Pei Qing, “Eat a little bit.”

Pei Qing said, “Will you feed me?”

Zhan Weiyang smiled and nodded, “I’ll feed you.”

Pei Qing walked to the windowsill, bent down, and let Zhan Weiyang feed him a chopstick of noodles. He said, “You eat, I’m not eating.”

Zhan Weiyang felt really full after eating the instant noodles. He lay on the bed and touched his stomach in a daze. When he was about to fall asleep, he suddenly said, “Forget it.”

“What do you mean forget it?” Pei Qing was about to fall asleep. He was awakened by the sound of his voice and opened his eyes.

Zhan Weiyang said, “You’d better not accompany Qing jie.”

Pei Qing was silent for a while and asked him, “Why?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “I just thought about it, and I think I will be unhappy.”

“Why are you unhappy?” Pei Qing asked, “If I go to accompany Zhan Xiusong, will you be unhappy?”

Zhan Weiyang thought about it seriously and said, “I don’t know. But if you accompany him instead of me, I will definitely be unhappy.”

“Well,” Pei Qing said, “Then I’ll tell you why you are unhappy because everyone has selfish desires, which is normal.”

Zhan Weiyang asked him, “Am I selfish?”

Pei Qing said, “If you have to put it that way, isn’t it actually quite good?”

       Zhan Weiyang didn’t understand, “Huh?”

Pei Qing said, “I also hope that my Yangyang will only accompany me. In some aspects, everyone is selfish.”

Zhan Weiyang’s heart skipped a beat when he heard his words. He suddenly pulled up the quilt to cover half of his face, but he still felt his face getting hot. Pei Qing asked him, “Why are you not saying anything?”

Zhan Weiyang didn’t know what to say. He heard his own heartbeat and said after a while, “I fell asleep.”

Pei Qing smiled silently in the darkness.
