Chapter 34

In this battle, the second eldest son of the Sheng family, Sheng Guang, and their third eldest son, Sheng Wei, were shot dead, and more than 200 of their men died. The fifth son, Sheng Ming, disappeared without a trace.

On the side of J City, military and political leader Old Master Shen suddenly fell ill, and all affairs were handed over to his grandson, Shen Mo, to handle. Sheng Weiyong was arrested for economic crimes involved in smuggling, illegal possession of firearms, and other charges. The eldest son, Sheng Kai, was detained for a murder case. The stock price of Sheng Group plummeted. The Sheng family’s power was on the decline, as if a building was about to collapse, teetering on the edge.

The authorities classified this incident as a gang conflict, skillfully avoiding implicating the Chu family, instead announcing that the Chu family was an ‘innocent victim’ who had accidentally become involved in the gang clash.

In this battle, the Black Eagle Society lost 43 men dead and over 240 injured. The casualties among Chu Qin’s former subordinates who were paying respect at the cemetery were the heaviest. At Qinglan Mansion, besides Aunt Song, the gardener, and a few servants who weren’t there that day, Bai Yang and three bodyguards were severely injured, while Feng Tai, Lan Xin, and others all died.

Chu Yunhan, who stubbornly insisted on personally visiting the scene, did not speak a word the entire time. He only picked up Feng Tai’s pocket watch and tucked it into his chest pocket, slowly combing Lan Xin’s bloodstained hair, staring at her pale, quiet face for a long time without moving. Finally, he closed his eyes, which were reddened from holding back tears, and had them placed in black body bags and taken to the morgue.

After returning from the cemetery, he locked himself in his room in the old mansion and hadn’t come out since. The Sheng family still had a lot of fish that might have slipped through the net and could be wandering the city, so Chu Yichen requested that he stay in the old mansion temporarily. But everyone knew the real reason—it was to prevent him from being reminded of the scene at the empty Qinglan Mansion.

The next afternoon, the door was forced open, and Hei Yu brought a little girl to Chu Yunhan who looked haggard.

There was finally a flicker of light in his dull eyes. He knelt halfway and said slowly in a hoarse voice, “Yuanyuan, your mother…is gone.”

“…Where did Mommy go?” There was an uneasiness in the childish voice.

“…She went to a very, very beautiful place. She wanted to stay there, but she couldn’t stop worrying about you, afraid you’d be lonely…” He did his best to remain composed in front of the child, trying to appear better, “From now on, Uncle will accompany you on her behalf so that she can rest assured, okay?”

Yuanyuan looked at him and nodded, but tears fell. She was a sensitive and delicate child—her mother hadn’t come back, and neither had Uncle Feng. Many people hadn’t come back. She could read pity and sorrow in the adults’ eyes when they looked at her. She knew her mother wouldn’t return, and from now on, she had no one else to rely on except the man before her.

Chu Yunhan held her in his arms and comforted her softly, “Don’t cry, don’t cry… Uncle will always be with you and protect you. Are you hungry? Let’s go get something to eat together, okay?”

He had to pull himself together because someone needed him. He was someone else’s pillar of support.

This incident was too far-reaching, requiring a great deal of follow-up work. Both the black and white parties have a lot of things to be busy with, including political negotiations, business operations, internal management, tracing the remnants of the party, providing compensation for the deceased, and treating the injured… Additionally, with many people lost, Chu Yichen was swamped with work. Minran couldn’t be in J City to assist, and even the older generation, Chu Yu and Chu Xuan had to get involved. Chu Yunhan actively took over many of the group’s operational matters and became busy himself.

The funeral of the deceased was held a week later, and tombstones were erected in the Black Eagle Society’s exclusive cemetery. Although some of the ashes had been collected by their families, their names were still engraved here as a permanent memorial.

It was an extremely grand funeral. A black motorcade, with large white flowers tied to the front of the cars, slowly made its way along the main road of K City, passing in front of the Golden Eagle Group headquarters. Under the gaze of the golden eagle perched atop the building, the deceased were sent to their final resting place. The long procession attracted numerous onlookers, all of whom knew it was the Chu family bidding farewell to their loved ones.

The officials and high-ranking members of the Black Eagle Society rushed back from all directions, and the entire cemetery was dark and solemn. Chu Yichen, wearing a black suit, stood at the front. Chu Yunhan and others stood behind him, bowing deeply to the tombstone together. Yuanyuan, who was wearing a little black skirt, held his hand tightly and sobbed softly. After the ceremony was over, he took her little hand and went to Lan Xin’s tombstone. Yuanyuan cried and said softly, “Mom, don’t worry, I will listen to Uncle Chu, and I will come to see you often…”

Seeing this scene, Chu Yunhan felt extremely depressed. He turned his face and met the eyes of the man standing not far away.

Chu Yichen was looking at him. The two of them were busy with their own affairs during this period. Even though they lived in the old house, they always left early and returned late. It seemed that they had not seen each other for a long time. At this moment, there were many people between them, and they were looking at each other calmly, and no one looked away. It wasn’t until Yuanyuan grabbed Chu Yunhan’s hand again that he lowered his head, picked her up, and left the cemetery first.

When people get busy, they tend to ignore the passage of time. By the time all the matters were dealt with and the situation had stabilised, it had already been a month and a half. After winter set in, a few moderate to heavy rains fell, and the weather grew colder day by day.

Chu Yunhan, who was woken up by the alarm early in the morning, went downstairs with messy hair and yawned. Since Lan Xin’s death, no matter how busy he was, he made sure to set aside time every day to have breakfast with Yuanyuan and then take her to kindergarten. He sleepily walked to the dining room, and when he saw the people sitting at the round table eating, he paused in surprise, his eyes widening.

Yuanyuan, wearing a little red sweater, reached for the pastries on the plate, but her short arms couldn’t quite reach. She quietly pulled her hand back. Just then, a large hand extended from the side, moving the plate directly in front of her. The girl softly said thank you, took a small cake, and bit into it, with the jam filling spilling out. The man sitting next to her wiped it off with a napkin and said, “Take your time.”

This scene was strange yet harmonious, leaving Chu Yunhan dumbfounded, unsure whether to walk over. A while ago, Chu Yichen had gone to J City to expand his network, and they hadn’t seen each other for more than half a month. Now, seeing him sitting at the table felt unreal. When Yuanyuan looked up and saw him, she called out, ‘Uncle Chu’, and immediately, the familiar gaze followed.

Chu Yunhan felt a slight itch on his face, like being swept by a cat’s tail. He coughed lightly, said vaguely “Good morning, you’re back”, and sat down on the other side of Yuanyuan.

       “Just arrived.”

He was a little cautious for no reason and said, “Over there… is everything settled?”

       “En.”

       “No need to go?”

       “En.”

       “Minran is still there?”

“Shen Mo is still settling in; there are some things to take care of.”

       “Oh.”

The exchange was brief and sparse.

Chu Yunhan distractedly scooped some porridge into his spoon and brought it to his mouth, only to find it scalding. He was caught between spitting it out and swallowing, looking utterly awkward. He hissed through his teeth while sneaking a glance at the other man.

The man raised the corner of his mouth, sipping milk from his cup without saying anything. However, Yuanyuan next to him looked at him sympathetically and said, “Uncle, eat slowly, hot.”

“Okay.” His face turned red, and he stirred the porridge in the bowl with a spoon. He said, “I will take Yuanyuan back in two days.”

Chu Yichen was silent for a while and replied calmly, “Okay, I’ll let someone arrange it.”

Chu Yunhan didn’t know why he felt a little unhappy all of a sudden. It was as if there was a sudden and uncomfortable feeling in his heart. He said, “I’ll handle it myself.”

It was quite a blunt rebuttal. Du Chuan, who was standing aside, glanced at the person sitting in the main seat.

The man’s expression remained unchanged. He slowly took a sip of the milk in the cup and said, “Okay.”

It was his own suggestion at first, but now that the other person agreed, he felt upset. What was going on? Even he thought he was being unreasonable.

It was probably because he had been holding back too much lately, and he was a bit emotionally disturbed…

       That must be the case…

Chu Yunhan felt sullen and had no appetite left. After Yuanyuan finished eating, he said, “I’ll take her to kindergarten,” and left.

He was in a bad mood the entire way. It wasn’t until Yuanyuan, who was sitting in the back seat, asked timidly, “Is Uncle upset?” did he realised that he had been scowling the whole time and said with some shame, “No, it’s just that the road is a bit congested. I asked Aunt Jing to come after school in the afternoon to pick you up, okay? Uncle has a meeting that might run late.”

“Okay.” The little girl was always very well-behaved.

After dropping Yuanyuan off at kindergarten, Chu Yunhan realised that he had been absent-minded and had forgotten a whole folder of materials at home.

He had originally planned to call Du Chuan to have someone bring them to the office, but since the folder contained confidential business documents, he decided to return them and get them himself.

He walked into the traditional Chinese-style building with white walls and black tiles, his gaze passing over the study on the second floor. He paused, then turned back.

Sunlight streamed through the wooden lattice window, casting patterns of shadows on the floor. The tall bookshelf was neatly stacked with books, forming a layered, pixelated 3D image. Amid this, a figure was slouched on the wide sofa, his head tilted to one side. His hand, holding a fountain pen, was limp against the armrest, and the pen had rolled onto the carpet.

His eyes were tightly closed, and his thick black lashes cast a small shadow beneath his eyes.

Chu Yichen had just… fallen asleep.

Chu Yunhan stood quietly for a moment, letting out a soft sigh. This was the first time he had observed Chu Yichen’s sleeping face up close. He had always remembered Chu Yichen as strong and cold after reaching adulthood, like a machine, constantly alert and calm. Sometimes, he even forgot that this person was an ordinary human who needed rest.

His gaze fell on the thick stack of materials on the side table, and he frowned.

It must take a lot of effort to mediate among the powerful people in J City. This man caught a late-night flight, skipped a good night’s sleep, and was now handling a pile of matters. It’s really…

He realised that this morning, the man had probably only had a cup of milk.

He looked at the tired sleeping face of the other party, and somewhere in his heart, a soft, sour, green plum-like emotion welled up, slowly swelling, filling his heart to the fullest. He quickly went to a nearby room and took a soft thin blanket, gently draping it over Chu Yichen. After quietly closing the study door behind him, he turned to see Du Chuan holding a cup of tea and Hei Yu with the materials standing behind him. Chu Yunhan raised an eyebrow and said, “What’s so urgent that it couldn’t wait? Can’t you let him sleep for a bit?”

This was the first time the young master had interfered with Chu Yichen’s matters, and both Du Chuan and Hei Yu were taken aback, exchanging glances. Hei Yu lowered his head and said, “I’ll report in half an hour.”

He took a few steps, turned back, and whispered to Du Chuan, “Don’t mention that I came back.”

       “Understood.” The butler responded.

Chapter 85

Pei Qing had returned to school for a few months and waited until he officially graduated before going home for the first time. He gave away all the other things in the school dormitory that he could, and there were not many important things left, so he only packed a large suitcase.

It was already evening when he got home. Pei Jingrong and Zhan Yingfei were not at home. Zhan Xueqing’s school had not yet had a holiday, and she would not come back because of the final exams.

He dragged the suitcase into his room and saw that the things in the room were neatly packed and the desk was spotless. He stood the suitcase against the wall and lay down on the new bed sheet without a wrinkle.

Since Zhan Pengcheng was sick and hospitalised, Pei Qing had not had time to go back to see Zhan Weiyang in the past six months but just video chatted with him every night.

Compared with Zhan Weiyang’s dependence on him, Pei Qing sometimes felt that he was the one who could not live without Zhan Weiyang. He needed the feeling of being relied on, which would make his existence meaningful.

Pei Qing lay on the bed until after eight o’clock in the evening when Pei Jingrong and Zhan Yingfei came back from outside.

As soon as Zhan Yingfei got home, she noticed someone was back. She shouted, “Is Xueqing back?”

Pei Qing got up from the bed and left the room slowly, saying, “Dad, Auntie, it’s me.”

“Pei Qing!” Zhan Yingfei showed a surprised expression, “Is the school on vacation?”

Pei Jingrong looked serious, “Why didn’t you tell me you were back? How did you decide what I told you before?”

Pei Jingrong had been calling Pei Qing since two months ago to ask him about his work plans. Pei Jingrong was running his own company with Zhan Yingfei at the moment. After the start-up phase, it was now doing well. He hoped Pei Qing could go over to help him.

Pei Qing said, “I have submitted my resume to the company I want to go to, and I will go for an interview next week.”

Pei Jingrong frowned and said nothing. Zhan Yingfei noticed that Pei Jingrong was not happy, so he spoke to ease the atmosphere and asked, “Which company?”

Pei Qing said, “The one I interned at.”

Zhan Yingfei was a little surprised, “Are you planning to work at Chongfeng?”

       Pei Qing nodded.

Pei Jingrong said coldly, “Is this the decision you’ve been considering for two months?”

Pei Qing said to him, “No, this is my initial decision.”

“Pei Qing!” Pei Jingrong took two steps forward and was pulled back by Zhan Yingfei.

Zhan Yingfei said, “What are you doing? Talk to the child properly.”

Pei Jingrong said, “I’m talking to him properly.” But his tone was obviously not that nice.

Pei Qing was still very calm. He said to Pei Jingrong, “I am 22 years old, not 12. I already have my own job and will have my own life in the future. I don’t think there is anything wrong with my choice.”

Pei Jingrong said, “So you don’t need to discuss it with us? You want to live your own life. I raised you to this age. Don’t you have the obligation to explain to me?”

Pei Qing said, “I am back to explain now.”

“You call it an explanation?” Pei Jingrong couldn’t suppress his anger. “Aren’t you just simply notifying us?”

Zhan Yingfei was beside him, holding Pei Jingrong’s arm tightly, hoping that he could control his emotions.

Pei Qing said, “Because I know you will not agree, but even if you do not agree, I will still insist.”

       Pei Jingrong said angrily, “Bastard!”

Pei Qing sighed softly, leaned on the sofa, and said to Pei Jingrong, “Dad, I am not happy here.”

Pei Jingrong asked him, “Am I not good to you, or is your aunt not good to you?”

Pei Qing said, “You’re all great, and you have Xueqing. Wouldn’t it be better for you all to just be happy together? If I’m not happy, that’s my problem. There’s no need to force me to stay.”

When Pei Jingrong was about to speak, Zhan Yingfei said, “If the child wants to go out and try his luck, just let him go. Why do you have to keep him by your side? At this age, he is full of energy and should go out to gain experience.”

“But—” Pei Jingrong was still unwilling.

Zhan Yingfei interrupted him, “There’s no need to worry. It’s just a job, not something permanent. If it doesn’t go well or he’s unhappy, Pei Qing can still come back and help you out.” As she spoke, she pushed Pei Jingrong into the room, “You are all very emotional now. Let’s calm down and talk. There’s no need to rush.”

Pei Jingrong didn’t say anything else.

Zhan Yingfei said to Pei Qing when she passed by him, “Go and have a rest first. We can talk tomorrow if you have anything to say.”

Pei Qing said to Zhan Yingfei, “Auntie, I have bought a plane ticket for tomorrow.”

The next day was Friday, so Zhan Weiyang didn’t have to attend evening self-study. Although he didn’t have to attend every day, he tried studying at home for two weeks and realised he couldn’t understand the material on his own. So, he stayed at school for self-study sessions, where he could ask teachers or classmates for help with the problems he didn’t understand.

After knowing that Zhan Weiyang was going to study at night, Chen Youyou also studied at school every day. Because Zhan Weiyang’s deskmate was not there in the evening, he moved to sit next to Zhan Weiyang during self-study so that Zhan Weiyang could ask him questions that he couldn’t solve. Even though Chen Youyou wasn’t the most articulate, he could explain things to Zhan Weiyang by writing and drawing.

Zhan Weiyang said to Chen Youyou, “Youyou, you are so good.” He thought that if it weren’t for Pei Qing, he might fall in love with Chen Youyou.

Chen Youyou’s thoughts weren’t that complicated. If he went home in the evenings, his mom would just make him study anyway, so he figured he might as well stay at school. At least there, he could find some time to chat with Zhan Weiyang. So, he waved his hand and said, “I’ve, always been this, good of a person.”

After school in the afternoon, Zhan Weiyang and Chen Youyou left the school together.

Chen Youyou asked Zhan Weiyang, “How about having dinner together?”

Zhan Pengcheng would not be home for dinner today, and only Grandma and Auntie Luo were at home. Zhan Weiyang thought about it and felt that he could have dinner with Chen Youyou, but Chen Youyou had recently been obsessed with seafood noodles in a noodle shop. They had been there several times, but Chen Youyou still wanted to eat it, so Zhan Weiyang said first, “Okay, but I’m not eating seafood noodles.”

Chen Youyou was a little unhappy, “Then, what do you say to eat?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “I don’t know.” Anyway, he knew that he didn’t want to eat seafood noodles.

They walked to the school gate, and Zhan Weiyang suddenly saw a familiar figure standing under the big tree outside the gate.

It was already the end of June. Pei Qing wore a black short-sleeved T-shirt and long jeans. Compared with the last time he left, his hair was cut shorter and he was thinner. He smiled when he saw Zhan Weiyang.

Zhan Weiyang almost cried out in surprise, ran towards Pei Qing, and threw himself into Pei Qing’s arms.

At that time, Chen Youyou hadn’t reacted to what happened and stood there in a daze.

Pei Qing reached out and picked up Zhan Weiyang, both feet off the ground, gently putting him back, saying, “I’m picking you up from school.”

Zhan Weiyang was so happy that he was about to cry, and he hugged Pei Qing tightly regardless of whether there was anyone watching.

Pei Qing smiled and patted his head, “Okay, okay.”

After that, he greeted Chen Youyou, “Hello. Youyou.”

Chen Youyou came back to his senses, “Hello, Older cousin.”

Zhan Weiyang let go of Pei Qing after a while and said, “Why didn’t you tell me you were back?”

Pei Qing said, “It’s a surprise for you. I arrived in the morning and dealt with some things in the afternoon. I came directly to pick you up for dinner.”

       Zhan Weiyang nodded vigorously, “Dinner!”

Pei Qing was still thinking about Chen Youyou, “Youyou, do you want to go to dinner with us?”

Chen Youyou hesitated for a moment and said, “No, I, have to go home.”

Pei Qing didn’t force him, “Then you go back, be careful on the road.”

Chen Youyou nodded, “I’m going.” Seeing that Zhan Weiyang didn’t try to stop him, he pretended to walk towards the bus stop, changed direction halfway, and planned to eat seafood noodles alone. He still wanted to eat seafood noodles so much.

Chapter 33

His actions greatly exceeded Sheng the fifth’s expectations. The man’s brows furrowed into a deep crease, “Why are you…”

“My surname is Chu.” Chu Yunhan looked at him.

“And because you’re a Chu, the only one who can protect you now is me. My brothers will undoubtedly eradicate the Chu family; leaving me is a dead end for you.” Sheng the fifth raised his hand and looked at his watch anxiously. He then said, “Do you understand or not?”

“I’ve already betrayed once and have no desire to do it a second time.” His voice was unusually calm, without a trace of ripples. “If you still have even a shred of affection for me, let me go and allow me a dignified end. If not, kill me yourself.”

The man stared at him stiffly, with the corners of his mouth tightened. In addition to sullenness, heartbreak and sadness were in his eyes, and he whispered, “…Is it necessary to be like this?”

Chu Yunhan didn’t know where he got the courage. He pressed his finger tightly on the trigger, lowered his eyes slightly, and said word by word, “It has to be like this.”

Sheng the fifth was silent for a while, then punched the roof of the car with a gloomy face, gritted his teeth and ordered, “Let him through.”

“Fifth Young Master!” Surprised, the attendant beside him said, “If you let him go like this… If the Third Young Master finds out…”

“I said, let him through!” The man looked like a ferocious lion, his eyes a little red, “Shut the hell up!”

Seeing his rage, his subordinates dared not say more and quickly stepped aside to clear the way.

Chu Yunhan’s eyelashes trembled, and he said “Thank you” in a hoarse voice and sat back in the car. Bai Xiao immediately stepped on the accelerator and rushed out of the alley.

Sheng Ming watched the car pass before him, turn the corner and disappear. He leaned against the car door and lit a cigarette tiredly. Sheng Weiyong knew about his obsession with Chu Yunhan, which was why he hadn’t been sent on this operation. He followed secretly in order to take Chu Yunhan away safely. He had planned it all out—he would take this man back to J City, and if his family objected, they would flee abroad together for a carefree life.

But now, the man who once reached out to him for help no longer wanted to go with him.

In the end, he was too late after all.

Sheng the Fifth took a deep drag on his cigarette, recalling how Chu Yunhan had once been in his arms, and kissed. He was shy and tense, trying to resist yet forced to submit, so captivating. He thought of the stunning smile from earlier, and his gaze became unfocused.

Just as he was lost in these memories, a subordinate came rushing over with urgency, “Fifth Young Master, something happened!

Inside the car, Chu Yunhan was still gripping the gun tightly. His hands trembled slightly, and he used his other hand to steady it. Bai Xiao was on a call, listening silently before finally replying, “I understand.”

“How is he? Is there any news? How is the situation at the cemetery?” Chu Yunhan asked anxiously as soon as the call ended, leaning forward against the front seat.

Bai Xiao glanced at him through the rearview mirror. “No news yet.”

The longer it dragged on, the worse it looked. Disappointment clouded Chu Yunhan’s face as he furrowed his brows deeply. After a moment of silent thought, he asked, “How many people are heading to the cemetery now?”

       “About two thousand.”

“How many more manpower can be mobilised?”

The man paused briefly and said, “There are about two thousand and five thousand in the city.”

“Organise two thousand to intercept Sheng Wei. Split three hundred into two groups to guard the old house and the Zhou family; if necessary, evacuate them. Contact my second and third uncles, inform them of the situation, and have the people protecting Minran leave Italy and cut off all unnecessary communications. Choose a few sharpshooters to ambush at key intersections. Kill any members of the Sheng family on sight. Have all Black Eagle members currently outside conceal their identities and infiltrate J City slowly.” Chu Yunhan’s voice was dry and hoarse, with some unsteady tremors but with unprecedented cruelty. “Now turn around and go to the old house. I’m going to destroy all personnel records and financial documents. Assign two hundred men to protect it.”

Bai Xiao stared at him in shock through the rearview mirror, unable to speak for a long time.

“What are you waiting for?” Chu Yunhan snapped harshly.

Bai Xiao turned on his mobile phone, dialled a number, and said in a deep voice, “Young Master Yun said…” Then he repeated all his words. After getting the answer from the other party, he made a sharp U-turn at a red light and headed toward the Chu family’s old house.

“So much time has passed already…” There was a broken void in Chu Yunhan’s eyes, and his voice was very soft, as if he was mumbling to himself, “No news must mean he’s still alive…”

“What will happen if Young Master is no longer here?” Bai Xiao suddenly asked.

The man in the back seat said nothing.

Just when Bai Xiao thought the other party wouldn’t answer, he heard a chilling sentence.

“If he’s dead, not a single member of the Sheng family will live.”

While Chu Yunhan headed toward the Chu family’s old house, Sheng Ming’s car was speeding toward the outskirts of the city. Behind him, several black cars followed like persistent shadows. From time to time, there was the sound of bullets hitting the car’s rear.

Sheng Ming clenched the gun in his hand with red eyes, feeling waves of coldness coming from deep within his bones, making him tremble.

On the phone call just now, the weak and breathy voice of the second brother Sheng Guang kept echoing in my ears.

“Xiao Wu… I’m done for. Something happened to your third brother too… Don’t go back to J City. Just now… Shen Mo and Chu Minran attacked Dad… Turns out they’ve been planning this all along… Go abroad, don’t come back, just leave…”

Overnight, the net in his hand was torn, and the beast was released, roaring angrily, revealing its bloody fangs.

The hunter had become the prey.

The mist in his eyes turned crimson as if everything was burning and evaporating around him. Sheng Ming clenched his teeth hard and finally closed his eyes, letting a scalding tear roll down his cheek.

When Chu Yunhan rushed into the old house in a hurry, he looked at Chu Yu and Chu Xuan standing in the hall. He was stunned, tears welled up in his eyes, and he said incoherently, “Second Uncle, Third Uncle, he’s at the cemetery… What…what should we do?”

Chu Yu looked at him in such a panic and turned to Bai Xiao.

Bai Xiao lowered his head guiltily and said, “I just… didn’t tell Young Master Yun the news.”

“Deceiving your master, how insolent.” Chu Yu said coldly, “Your punishment will be dealt with later. Go tend to your wounds.”

       “Yes.” He immediately retreated.

Chu Xuan walked over and said, “Yichen is fine, and the situation is under control. We are here, don’t worry.”

Hearing these words, Chu Yunhan felt that the strength that had been held in his body had been drained out of his body. His whole body relaxed, and his feet lost some strength and swayed.

Chu Xuan held him up and asked, “Are you okay?”

He looked at the other person suddenly, tears rolling down uncontrollably. He hurriedly wiped it off with the back of his hand, lowered his head and said, “I’m okay.”

“Sit down.” Chu Yu patted his shoulder, “Drink some water.”

Chu Yunhan sat down and took the tea from the servant. Without drinking it, he said in a hoarse voice, “What happened today was done by the Sheng family.”

“Yes,” Chu Yu said. “The Sheng family and our family have both been vying for political and military support. Initially, we stayed out of each other’s way, but a year ago, they began extending their influence into K City, squeezing our power. Yichen started strategising at that time, using the forces in J City to shake the foundation of the Sheng family. Although Minran claimed to be studying abroad in Italy, he has actually been staying with the Shen family in J City for the past year, hiding his identity and plotting to help Shen Mo rise to power. Just now, that plan has come to fruition.” He paused momentarily before continuing, “What happened today was indeed sudden. The Sheng family noticed Shen Mo’s growing power and decided to strike first and take Yichen’s life. However, this time, their covert operation was controlled directly by the second and third sons of the Sheng family. It wasn’t until last night that Minran figured out their movements. We had received word that they planned to make a move during the amusement park’s ribbon-cutting event hosted by Golden Eagle this afternoon. So, Yichen decided to use himself as bait to lure them out. Tang Can and Hei Yu also stayed behind with a large group of people at the venue. Unexpectedly, they changed their plans at the last minute and struck at the cemetery. Fortunately, Yichen had already sent extra personnel to protect you on the outside, which allowed the personnel to be redirected in time. It was a close call, but luckily, no major harm was done.”

The brief explanation sounded plain, but it concealed the countless lives, blood, risks, and fear involved. Having personally experienced the events of the day, Chu Yunhan now fully grasped how treacherous this path was. After understanding the cause and effect, the panic in his heart subsided a little. He took a sip of tea to soothe his throat, which felt parched and burning. Yet, his mind suddenly conjured the image of Chu Yichen standing solemnly before his father’s gravestone.

—I will take good care of him, please rest assured.

What if that person’s original plan was to use himself as bait in the afternoon to lure the Sheng family into making a move? Then what kind of feelings did he harbour when he said this sentence? His appearance at the cemetery this morning—was it truly for homage, or…

       Was it to see him?

To see him, possibly for the last time?

When this thought suddenly came into his mind, his whole body froze.

“Go and take a rest.” Chu Yu said gently when he saw that his face was pale.

He shook his head, “I’ll wait here.”

       Wait for what?

He knew it in his heart but couldn’t say it aloud.

Thunder exploded in the distance, rumbling furiously in the dark clouds. The gloomy sky was split in half by lightning, the wind blew the trees in the yard, and the rain poured heavily.

Chu Yunhan stood behind the railing in the corridor, staring closely in the direction of the door. The cold wind ruffled his brown hair and slapped his face with wetness.

At last, a figure appeared in the empty doorway.

       Closer and closer.

The man walking in front stopped when he saw him.

That handsome, striking face was smeared with blood, blending with the rain. His black coat was soaked, water dripping steadily from its edges. Yet his posture remained tall and composed, like a tree growing skyward or a lone wolf standing proud and unyielding.

At that moment, the entire world seemed to lose its colour.

All that remained were those dark eyes, gazing at him through the rain, tender as water.

       “I’m back.”

Chapter 84

After lunch, Zhan Pengcheng stood at the door of the second-floor balcony and watched Pei Qing and Zhan Weiyang plant trees together.

Both of them were very serious. Pei Qing even searched online for information on what to pay attention to when transplanting.

Zhan Pengcheng felt sleepy after watching for a while, so he went back to his room and lay down to take a nap.

When Zhan Weiyang bought a flower pot before, he chose a big flower pot that he could squat in. Now, when buying a tree, he chose a small tree. The two filled a whole flower pot with soil to plant the fortune tree, which looked even more compact in the big flower pot.

Pei Qing asked him, “Why buy such a small one?” They could just buy a big fortune tree and plant it in this flower pot.

Zhan Weiyang did not answer but asked, “Will it grow up?”

Pei Qing said, “Of course it will grow up; it will grow up with Yangyang.”

Zhan Weiyang nodded, “I’m afraid it will grow too big, and the flower pot will not fit.”

Pei Qing reached out and patted his shoulder, “Now it won’t be too big to fit.”

       Zhan Weiyang agreed, “Yeah.”

The fortune tree was moved to the best position on the balcony, which was the position Zhan Weiyang had chosen for himself before, where he could get the morning sun and see the fountain in the neighbourhood.

When the wind blew, the bright green leaves of the fortune tree trembled slightly, but they clung tightly to the thriving and round trunk, growing vigorously like another life of Zhan Weiyang.

Surrounding the fortune tree were other potted plants, and there were a few pots of brightly coloured flowers that Zhan Pengcheng had just bought from the flower market today.

No one would be lonely here.

Zhan Weiyang sat on the guardrail at the edge of the balcony facing inward.

Pei Qing stood in front of him, held his hand and said to him, “Yangyang, I will go back to school in two days.”

Zhan Weiyang didn’t say anything, but the smile on his face became a little fainter.

Pei Qing didn’t say anything either; just looked at him.

After a while, Zhan Weiyang said, “You have to go back to school and graduate.”

Pei Qing smiled and nodded, “Yes, Yangyang is very sensible.”

Zhan Weiyang held Pei Qing’s hand tightly and said, “Wait for me, okay?”

“Hmm?” Pei Qing was a little unsure of what he meant.

Zhan Weiyang said a little anxiously, “I will take the college entrance examination next year. Can I come to see you?”

Pei Qing asked him, “Which university do you want to apply to?” There were many schools in the city where he studied and lived.

Zhan Weiyang had no idea at all, and he said uncertainly, “C University?”

Pei Qing smiled when he heard this. Zhan Weiyang would definitely not be able to get into C University with his current grades. However, he still encouraged him, “Okay, then you should aim for C University and work hard to get in, okay?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “Okay! Then you must wait for me!”

Pei Qing smiled and lowered his head. After a while, he gently rested his forehead on Zhan Weiyang’s soft belly.

Zhan Weiyang lowered his eyes to look at him and asked a little worriedly, “What’s wrong?” He raised his hand to hug Pei Qing’s head, touched his hair anxiously, and asked, “Do you have no confidence in me?”

Pei Qing hugged his waist and said, “No, I just want to hug you.”

Zhan Weiyang said, “Well, everything will get better and better.”

Zhan Weiyang didn’t know whether this sentence was said to comfort Pei Qing or to comfort himself.

On the day Pei Qing left, he did not chase the car in his pyjamas in a daze. Instead, he woke up early with an alarm clock, followed Zhan Pengcheng and the others to the door of his house, and watched Pei Qing get in the car.

Zhan Pengcheng drove, and Pei Qing said to Zhan Weiyang through the lowered car window, “Go back and have breakfast.”

Zhan Weiyang still had to go to class today.

Zhan Weiyang was actually still sad. He waved at Pei Qing, trying not to look so sad.

Life was about growing through experiences, one after another, just like the time he couldn’t catch up to that car or the night he took Zhan Pengcheng to the hospital all by himself. After going through it, he realised it hadn’t been as frightening as he had thought. Pei Qing would not leave and never come back. When he needed him, Pei Qing still returned to his side.

From the day Zhan Weiyang made up his mind to take the C University entrance exam, he began to study hard.

Every day in class, Zhan Weiyang stared at the blackboard and listened to the teacher’s lectures without blinking. However, he could only understand about 50% of the content in one class.

After class, he had no time to chat with Chen Youyou. He concentrated on reading to understand what the teacher taught in class. If he really didn’t understand, he would ask Chen Youyou.

Chen Youyou thought he was strange and asked him, “Are, you crazy?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “No, I just don’t have a good brain, I’m not crazy.”

Chen Youyou asked him, “Why, are you so, serious all of, a sudden?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “I want to take the C University entrance exam.”

As soon as he finished this sentence, the girls at the same table couldn’t help but turn their heads to look at him.

Chen Youyou looked puzzled, “Huh? Seriously?”

       Zhan Weiyang said, “Yes, seriously.”

       Chen Youyou didn’t understand, “Why?”

Zhan Weiyang didn’t say anything. He casually drew on the draft book with a pen. After a while, his eyes lit up, and he thought of a good answer: because of love.

Zhan Pengcheng also found that Zhan Weiyang had been studying very hard recently.

He went into Zhan Weiyang’s room at almost ten o’clock in the evening and saw that he was still sitting at the desk studying hard, so he sat down by the bed and said, “Yangyang, Grandma will be back in two days.”

Zhan Weiyang took the time to say ‘En’ to indicate that he heard it.

Zhan Pengcheng sat for a while. Seeing that Zhan Weiyang ignored him, he couldn’t help but say, “Do you want to chat with Dad for a while?”

Zhan Weiyang finally looked at him and said, “Dad, don’t disturb me while I study.”

Zhan Pengcheng asked him, “Then until what time do you want to study?”

Zhan Weiyang looked at the time and replied, “Twelve o’clock.”

Zhan Pengcheng immediately said, “It’s too late. You are still growing, you can only grow taller when you fall asleep, don’t study so late.”

Zhan Weiyang said, “But I can’t understand the class or the book. How can I get into C University?”

“Ah?” Zhan Pengcheng stood up from the bed, “You want to go to the C University? Why do you want to go to the C University?”

       Zhan Weiyang didn’t answer him.

Zhan Pengcheng thought for a moment and said, “Because Pei Qing is in C University?”

Zhan Weiyang then said ‘En’ softly.

Zhan Pengcheng felt that his son was too dependent on Pei Qing and walked back and forth a few steps by the bed with some anxiety. Then he walked behind Zhan Weiyang and said, “It’s useless for you to apply to C University. Pei Qing will graduate this year, and he won’t be there when you go to study next year.”

Zhan Weiyang looked at Zhan Pengcheng and began to look uneasy.

Zhan Pengcheng put his hands on his shoulders, “Don’t go to C University. If you really want to go to college, go to a local university. You don’t have to live on campus and can go home to sleep every day.”

Zhan Weiyang was very entangled. He said, “What about Qing ge?”

“What do you mean what about Qing ge? Pei Qing is someone else’s child. Do you still want to follow him?”

Zhan Weiyang suddenly became anxious, “I want to follow him all the time.”

Zhan Pengcheng asked him, “What if Pei Qing gets married? Can you still follow him?”

Zhan Weiyang stood up from the chair and said very unhappily, “Qing ge will not get married.”

Zhan Pengcheng said this just to tease him, but when he saw that he was really unhappy, he suddenly felt a little complicated.

Zhan Weiyang then said, “Dad, you are a bit noisy.”

Zhan Pengcheng’s heart skipped a beat. It was the first time he was disliked by his youngest son.

Zhan Weiyang said again, “You’re disturbing my study.”

Zhan Pengcheng held back his sadness and asked him, “Do you want Dad to go out?”

Zhan Weiyang lowered his head and scratched the back of the chair with his fingers without saying anything.

Zhan Pengcheng left Zhan Weiyang’s room, reached out and gently closed the door for him, sighed deeply, and walked towards his room.

Chapter 32

Chu Yunhan stood frozen. The wind slipping between the two of them carried a biting chill, dispersing the warmth from his body.

He watched the man approach little by little and finally stopped in front of him before reaching out a hand toward his coat collar. Chu Yunhan wanted to step back, but out of the corner of his eye, he glimpsed the neatly lined-up crowd not far away. His retreat halted abruptly, and he allowed the man to straighten his crooked collar.

Now, Chu Yichen, who appeared in the cemetery, is the head of the family and his cousin. The intimacy of his gestures carried a performative quality.

He wanted his subordinates, partners, friends, enemies, and others who came here for various reasons to see clearly—that there was harmony between the Chu brothers, no discord whatsoever, and that the previous rumours of brothers turning against each other were just nonsense.

It had been a long time since they last met in a public setting like this, each standing in their respective positions. Chu Yunhan kept his gaze low, barely daring to look at the other. In a soft voice, he asked, “When did you arrive?”

“Since the moment ‘I really hate myself,’” the man replied, his voice light.

He only felt a little suffocated in his chest and stood silently with his hands down.

Chu Yichen put down the flowers and stood before the stone tablet for a long time. In the end, he only said one sentence, “I will take good care of him; please rest assured.”

Chu Yunhan’s heart felt like it had been struck hard, beating wildly out of rhythm. His face flushed red, and his clenched fingers dug painfully into his palm.

“Let’s go,” the man said as he passed by.

He glanced at the tombstone again, pursed his lips, and followed the other person’s steps outside.

Chu Yichen walked in front, his slim body wrapped in a slightly loose coat, making him look tall and imposing. The oncoming wind blew the man’s scent over, and the light and familiar scent of aftershave brushed past the tip of his nose, reminding him of those ridiculous and indulgent nights, of the way the man panted against his body, of the relationship between the two of them. That sticky entanglement between them.

A restless heat rose from deep within his spine, causing his blood to gradually boil. Lost in thought, he didn’t notice Chu Yichen stopping in front of him and ended up bumping into the man’s back. Looking at those oppressive black eyes, as if his thoughts were being seen through, his face became even hotter, and he whispered, “…I’m sorry.”

“Where are you going?” Chu Yichen asked.

“The company, there’s this project… and we have an appointment for negotiation.”

Just as the other party was about to speak, he heard a ‘bang’ sound in the air, and then a bodyguard in front of him fell heavily at his feet.

       Everything happened unexpectedly.

Chu Yunhan was hugged hard and rolled over, hitting his head on the ground before he realised that it was a gunshot. Chu Yichen pressed him tightly, and his voice was hoarse, “Don’t move.” Screams erupted, and everyone seemed to move in an instant. The bodyguards gathered around and blocked the two people. He heard the sound of flesh being penetrated, he saw people falling continuously, and he felt Bai Yang protecting him in front of him, pushing him back.

In the chaos, a car slammed through the cemetery fence and rushed in. Bai Xiao shouted, “Young Master, get in!” Chu Yichen grabbed Chu Yunhan and shoved him into the backseat, slamming the door. He then said, “Take him away!”

“Young Master!” Bai Xiao looked sad, and his voice was trembling.

“Take him away. Protect him.” The man said solemnly, “This is an order.” He drew the pistol at his waist, looked deeply at the dumbfounded Chu Yunhan, and said nothing. He turned around and followed the steps of the bodyguards as they quickly retreated towards the building in the distance.

Bai Xiao’s eyes were blood red. He gritted his teeth and stepped on the accelerator hard, and the car sped away.

The intensive gunfire drowned out Chu Yunhan’s trembling, “Wait a minute…” and the bullets hit the car door and windows, making a ‘bang’ sound. The bulletproof glass around him was cracked into spider web-like patterns. He suppressed his fear and trembled all over. “Wait…Bai Xiao…wait…” His mind was blank as if he had been thrown naked into an ice cellar; his teeth were trembling, and he was shaking with every word.

“Wait for what? What are you still waiting for? He stayed there to draw the fire away, to make sure you live!” The man driving the car had a gunshot wound on his left arm, and blood was oozing out. There was a kind of sad despair in his voice, and he roared fiercely, “He’s done everything he could for you—everything! Even what he couldn’t do, he did! Do you fvcking know that?!”

Gripping the door handle tightly, Chu Yunhan felt a dull ache and suffocating pressure in his chest as though someone was squeezing his heart. Even breathing became difficult. The last look Chu Yichen gave him lingered in his mind.

The black eyes, with the deep light, seemed to have a lot of reluctance but also an unshakable determination.

       —-He wants you to live.

Chu Yunhan grabbed Bai Xiao’s shoulders with trembling hands and said, “Go back…” Seeing that the other party didn’t respond and still drove straight forward, he finally shouted angrily, “Go back! I want to go back!” “

A sneer appeared on the pale man’s lips, “What’s the use of going back?”

The words hit him like a blunt weapon to the head, leaving him dazed and unable to respond. He slumped back into the seat, lost and despondent.

       Yeah, what’s the use?

What on earth am I…useful for?

Chu Yunhan covered his face with his hands, pressing hard enough for his knuckles to turn white, leaving deep marks on his skin. Warm moisture soaked his palms and cheeks. He couldn’t tell whether it was sweat, tears, or perhaps dirt or blood from somewhere.

The feeling of powerlessness he felt when his father left swept over him again. This time, it was stronger and more overwhelming. He trembled and huddled in the back seat like a cornered animal, letting out a silent cry of despair.

       Don’t die…

       You can’t die…

       Chu Yichen…please…

He prayed over and over in his mind. Having always believed in nothing, he suddenly hoped that there really was a god in the world who could hear his prayer and bless that person.

Chu Yichen had stayed behind in the cemetery, drawing most of the enemy fire. After their car was pursued for a while, the gunfire ceased. But even as they entered the city, Bai Xiao’s expression remained grim. He kept glancing at the rearview mirror, frowning, and pressed the accelerator hard. The car, already going at 130 kilometers per hour, skidded almost sideways as it rounded a sharp corner and changed direction.

Chu Yunhan was nearly thrown off his grip on the handle, asking in alarm, “Is someone following us?”

“Yeah.” Bai Xiao pulled a gun from beneath his seat and tossed it to him while driving. He then said, “If I die later, just run. If you can’t escape, well, then you’re out of luck.”

Chu Yunhan’s heart pounded as he loaded the gun. He took a deep breath, and quickly recalled the shooting techniques he had been trained in—steady your breathing, align the three points, squeeze the trigger…

At that moment, Bai Xiao suddenly slammed on the brakes. The car screeched to a halt, leaving deep tyre marks on the ground. They were trapped in a narrow alley, blocked by cars at both ends. Seeing the formation, Bai Xiao’s face darkened, and he curled his lips into a sinister smile. Gripping his gun, he sneered with a chilling malevolence, “Young Master Yun, it looks like today’s the day we die here.” Every word dripped with murderous intent.

Chu Yunhan forced himself to stay calm, controlled his hands so as not to shake, gritted his teeth, opened the car door, and stood out.

Bai Xiao was shocked, “What are you doing?!”

He stood beside the car and shouted to the people at the other end of the alley, “I am Chu Yunhan. If you’re making such a big show of trying to kill me, isn’t the least you could do is show me who you are before I die?”

The other party was silent for a while. Then someone came up and whispered, “Long time no see.”

Chu Yunhan’s eyes widened. In disbelief, he looked at the other party and said, “Sheng the fifth…”

The man looked at him and said, “This isn’t a situation I wanted to see either. Yunhan, forgive me; I had no choice.”

“…Why? Isn’t there cooperation between the two families? Why on earth are you doing this?!” His back was tense, he clenched his fists, and his eyes looked like they were about to burst into flames.

“Your cousin’s methods are too clever—he has been eroding our influence bit by bit, gradually replacing us, and step by step undermining Old Man Shen’s trust. He orchestrated schemes to lure us into expanding our cooperation, only to cut off our resources after thoroughly assessing our strengths. And now, he has supported Shen Mo in sidelining Old Man Shen, leaving us completely without support. Forced into such a situation, don’t we deserve to seek justice?”

Chu Yunhan looked at the other party in shock, unable to say anything.

“If I wanted to kill you, you wouldn’t have made it this far.” There was a soft light in Sheng Ming’s eyes, “You betrayed Chu Yichen once. Life in the Chu family can’t have been easy for you. I regretted not taking you away last time, and that regret has stayed with me ever since. Today, I’m here to take you with me.”

       “…What?”

“Sheng Guang brought two hundred people to the cemetery, and the third brother Sheng Wei brought two thousand more in from outside the city. The outcome is clear—Chu Yichen won’t make it out today. Once he’s dead, the Chu family will fall. Rather than being dragged down with them, why not leave with me? Let’s go to J City and live our own carefree lives. I’ll stay by your side for the rest of your life.”

Chu Yunhan stood frozen, his bangs casting a shadow over his eyes. His shoulders trembled slightly as he asked, “And if I refuse?”

Sheng Ming frowned, “I don’t want to use force on you.”

Chu Yunhan raised his face and smiled at the man standing ten meters away.

It was a smile filled with charm—three parts gentle, three parts cool and aloof, three parts wild and unrestrained, and one part so captivating it left others unable to look away. Within it were hints of provocation and disdain, along with an air of cold arrogance. The subtle smile played lightly at the corners of his eyes and brows, making his already handsome face radiate a unique allure—deadly and dangerously irresistible.

Sheng the fifth stared at him blankly, motionless.

It was so beautiful. Like an elusive white deer in the forest, always out of reach. That smile ignited an uncontrollable desire in man to conquer and possess.

However, the next second, the proud animal walked towards the cliff’s edge.

Chu Yunhan put the cold gun muzzle against his temple and said, “I’ll give you two choices: let me go or kill me.”

Chapter 27

Jiang Tongyan never expected to hear such serious and reasonable words from Qian Xiaoke. He had always thought Qian Xiaoke was just a silly little liar who only knew how to charm men.

“What are you looking at me for?” Qian Xiaoke looked up. “Keep staring, and I’ll start charging you.”

Jiang Tongyan sneered, “You are so ugly, who wants to look at you.”

“Don’t think I don’t know. You were staring at me—I caught you.” Qian Xiaoke took a sip of beer just as the barbecue stand owner brought over the skewers they had ordered.

A large number of skewers of meat strung with bamboo and metal skewers were placed on an iron plate covered with a plastic bag.

       Jiang Tongyan immediately started complaining.

“… Look how dirty it is.” Jiang Tongyan pointed to the front of the skewer, “Black.”

Qian Xiaoke rolled his eyes. “You’re so sheltered!”

He grabbed a napkin and wiped the skewer. “Just eat it. It’s not going to kill you.”

Qian Xiaoke handed the skewers to Jiang Tongyan, and Jiang Tongyan leaned back in disgust.

“…You’re such a weirdo,” Qian Xiaoke glared at him. “If you don’t want to eat it, forget it. Just watch me eat instead.”

That’s just fine, Qian Xiaoke thought smugly to himself. More for me!

Jiang Tongyan sat there, sipping his beer in small gulps, watching as Qian Xiaoke devoured the skewers like a whirlwind sweeping up fallen leaves. Just watching it gave Jiang Tongyan a headache.

He had truly never seen someone eat so messily.

And yet, he had also never seen anyone eat with such gusto.

“Is it really that good?” Jiang Tongyan couldn’t wrap his head around it.

The skewers in front of them smelled alright, but they didn’t look appealing at all—some were even slightly burnt. How could anyone eat that?

“You know what,” Qian Xiaoke shook his head, “I really look down on you rich people.”

Jiang Tongyan squinted at him, then glanced at the rapidly diminishing pile of skewers.

       Is Qian Xiaoke a pig?

How can he eat this much?

       And so fast?

He looked so fair and skinny, but when he ate, he was like the Marshal of the Heavenly Reeds!

Jiang Tongyan watched as a mountain of bamboo skewers piled up next to Qian Xiaoke. He couldn’t hold back anymore and finally said, “Can you slow down? No one’s going to steal your food.”

“What if they do?” Qian Xiaoke replied. “What if you suddenly get tempted and try to take it from me?”

Jiang Tongyan snorted. “Don’t worry. That’s not going to happen.”

But sometimes, life slapped you in the face faster than you expected.

The skewers didn’t look appetizing, but they really smelled good. Jiang Tongyan hadn’t eaten dinner, so the aroma was a real test of his self-control.

He took a sip of his beer.

       “Is it really that good?”

Qian Xiaoke eyed him warily. “What do you want?”

“Nothing,” Jiang Tongyan said. “I’m not going to fight you for it. I don’t care.”

He said he didn’t care, but his stomach growled loudly.

Qian Xiaoke couldn’t hear Jiang Tongyan’s stomach growling, but he could tell that the guy was tempted. Taking a bite of meat, he smiled while staring at Jiang Tongyan across from him.

“Stop staring at me,” Jiang Tongyan said, mimicking Qian Xiaoke’s earlier tone. “Keep staring, and I’ll charge you.”

“Are you hungry?” Qian Xiaoke asked, grinning. “Or maybe just tempted?”

“…None of your business.” He was starving—absolutely starving.

However, Jiang Tongyan was someone who cared too much about maintaining pride, so he could only suffer in silence.

“Are you sure you don’t want to try it?” Qian Xiaoke held a skewer out in front of Jiang Tongyan. “Do you know what this is?”

Jiang Tongyan leaned back to avoid it, but then he heard Qian Xiaoke say, “Lamb kidney.”

Lamb kidney? What does that do for men?

Qian Xiaoke looked at Jiang Tongyan with a mischievous smile full of meaning.

“Qian Xiaoke, I’m warning you—don’t start with your nonsense.”

“I didn’t say anything! I’m just telling you that this is grilled lamb kidney. It’s delicious,” Qian Xiaoke said innocently. “Seriously, give it a try. Just one bite.”

If it were anything else, Jiang Tongyan might have been able to resist.

       But this was a kidney.

       A kidney!

Sure, sitting at a dirty roadside barbecue stand eating lamb kidneys wasn’t exactly fitting for a dignified CEO like him, but as a man with certain… unspoken concerns, kidneys were incredibly tempting.

“You really don’t want to eat it?” Qian Xiaoke teased. “Oh my, what a pity.”

Just as he was about to pull the skewer back, his wrist was suddenly grabbed.

Jiang Tongyan put on an air of nonchalance. “I’m just doing this to give you face.”

Holding back his laughter, Qian Xiaoke played along. “Alright, alright, thank you for honoring me with your presence.”

He watched, eyes twinkling, as Jiang Tongyan hesitated and then cautiously leaned in to take a tiny bite.

       How to describe it?

Jiang Tongyan chewed carefully, mulling over the taste as if savouring it for the first time. He probably chewed at least ‘eighty times’ before swallowing and taking a sip of beer.

“How is it?” Qian Xiaoke asked. “Tastes good, doesn’t it?”

Jiang Tongyan really didn’t want to admit it, but he couldn’t deny that it was surprisingly delicious.

“It’s… alright. Tell the owner to bring over ten more skewers.”

Qian Xiaoke burst out laughing and didn’t stop for a full five minutes.

Some doors to new worlds, once opened, could never be closed again. Some magical experiences, once entered, were impossible to leave behind.

Starting with one lamb kidney skewer, Jiang Tongyan discovered the beauty of roadside barbecue. By the time they finished, both he and Qian Xiaoke had stuffed themselves so full their stomachs were practically bulging.

Qian Xiaoke had initially promised that the cost would be no more than 50 yuan per person, but the two of them somehow managed to eat nearly 300 yuan worth of food. It wasn’t because the barbecue was expensive—it was just that they ate a lot. And that didn’t even include the cost of the beer.

Once they were finally full, they got up to leave. Qian Xiaoke commented, “Every time I burp, it smells like barbecue,”

He added, “Chairman Jiang, I’ve figured out when you’re at your most charming.”

Jiang Tongyan perked up. “Oh? Let’s hear it.”

“When you’re paying the bill,” Qian Xiaoke said. “Honestly, next time I’ll record it so you can go home and admire it yourself.”

Jiang Tongyan rolled his eyes. “I shouldn’t have expected you to say anything serious.”

Qian Xiaoke laughed, grabbed his bag of sliced bread, and walked leisurely beside Jiang Tongyan.

It was getting late, and Qian Xiaoke yawned.

Jiang Tongyan glanced at him. “You’re tired already?”

“Isn’t it normal to feel sleepy after eating so much?”

“You’re the kind of person with absolutely no self-control.” But just as he finished saying that, Jiang Tongyan yawned too.

Qian Xiaoke leaned against him, laughing so hard his stomach hurt, thinking this guy was just too hilarious.

The two wandered to the entrance of the neighbourhood. Qian Xiaoke said, “Chairman Jiang, this is where we part ways.”

Jiang Tongyan glanced inside the neighbourhood but stayed rooted in place, unwilling to leave.

       He had ulterior motives.

“Hmm? What’s wrong?” Qian Xiaoke asked, noticing his hesitant demeanour. “Don’t want to part with me? Don’t tell me you’ve really fallen for me? Let me warn you—that’s a bad idea!”

Of course, Qian Xiaoke was joking. By now, he’d figured out that no matter what, Jiang Tongyan wouldn’t fall for someone like him.

He deliberately raised an eyebrow and poked Jiang Tongyan’s shoulder. “I’m a heartless and ruthless person, you know!”

“…Move aside.” Jiang Tongyan glared at him. “Who would want to like you?”

“Hmph.” Qian Xiaoke pouted and turned to leave.

“Hey,” Jiang Tongyan couldn’t help but call out to him again.

“What now?” Qian Xiaoke turned back. “Too much lamb kidney, and now you’re feeling it?”

Feeling it, my ass! If only he were!

Jiang Tongyan asked, “Are you going straight home?”

“Yeah,” Qian Xiaoke replied. “Even miracle-working doctors need to clock out and rest, you know.”

“…You really can’t talk properly, can you?”

Qian Xiaoke chuckled. “What do you want? You’re so awkward. Can’t you just say what you mean?”

“I want to visit your place,” Jiang Tongyan admitted, curious about the so-called ‘shared rental apartments’ and the infamous ‘partitioned rooms.’

“Huh?” Qian Xiaoke looked baffled. “Why?”

“Curiosity,” Jiang Tongyan said. “I want to see the pigsty.”

“…Where do you get off with this superiority complex? Calling us hardworking folks pigs?”

“No, I’m specifically referring to you,” Jiang Tongyan said. “You’re the pig.”

Qian Xiaoke was about to die of frustration but eventually relented and brought him home.

       A doctor is kind hearted.

Right now, Jiang Tongyan was his patient.

Qian Xiaoke felt he was far too kind to indulge this guy like this.

“It’s late. Come in, take a quick look, and then leave. Don’t disturb the others,” he said.

At this moment, Jiang Tongyan looked like an emperor in disguise, visiting the common folk to observe their lives.

He followed Qian Xiaoke upstairs, curious to see the house that had apparently made Qian Xiaoke’s life so miserable.

Qian Xiaoke unlocked the door and pushed it open, revealing a pitch-black hallway. Although it was already autumn, the air was still oppressively stuffy. It was obvious the place hadn’t been properly ventilated in days.

Jiang Tongyan, standing behind him, frowned.

“Keep it down,” Qian Xiaoke whispered.

“…I haven’t even made a sound!” Jiang Tongyan felt unjustly accused.

Qian Xiaoke stepped aside to let him in. Once inside, Jiang Tongyan finally saw that what should have been a living room had been partitioned into two rooms. No wonder there were no windows—there was absolutely no ventilation.

After shutting the door, Qian Xiaoke navigated the dark hallway, leading Jiang Tongyan to his room.

As they passed one of the partitioned rooms, certain *indescribable* sounds drifted out.

“What’s going on?” Jiang Tongyan lowered his voice.

Partitioned rooms weren’t soundproof at all. Even the smallest noises could be heard loud and clear, let alone… those kinds of sounds. While Qian Xiaoke was somewhat pure, he had long grown used to falling asleep to such noises.

But Jiang Tongyan wasn’t used to it. He was even more innocent than Qian Xiaoke!

Qian Xiaoke put a finger to his lips to shush him, quickly dragging him toward his own room.

He unlocked the door and shoved Jiang Tongyan inside.

“Don’t make a fuss!” Qian Xiaoke said. “You’ve really never seen the world, have you?”

“Is this kind of ‘world’ something I need to see?” Jiang Tongyan was starting to lose his temper. “You actually live here every day?”

Poor living conditions and lack of ventilation were one thing, but who were these people he was living with?

“Aren’t you worried something might happen one day?”

Sitting on the bed, Qian Xiaoke pouted. “What’s the point of worrying? The rent’s already paid. What am I supposed to do—stop living here?”

He set the bag of bread aside, opened the window, and let some air in before bed.

Jiang Tongyan stood there, while an indescribable sounds outside seemed to echo right by his ear.

“This won’t do,” Jiang Tongyan said. “You need to move out immediately.”

Qian Xiaoke looked at him like he was an idiot. “Move out? Easy for you to say. Why don’t you give me the money?”

Jiang Tongyan: “…Cheng Sen will give you the money!”

Chapter 31

As time passed, the autumn air deepened, the weather grew cooler, and a chill lingered in the breeze brushing past. Leaning against the car door, Chu Yunhan tugged up the collar of his coat slightly. His hand paused briefly as it brushed against his neck.

The hickey under the side of the neck still left a faint mark, and he recalled the way the man looked at him from above while supporting his body. Three days ago, his legs were tied into an M shape during the two-person game, wide open to receive the man’s advances. This time, no tools were used—just the intrusion and caress of the man’s fingers were enough to send him spiralling into waves of pleasure, trembling and climaxing helplessly. The sight of Chu Yunhan, eyes misty with lust and pleading desperately, also stirred Chu Yichen. His breathing quickened, his body tensed, and a sheen of sweat formed on his forehead.

The contract signed by the two not only restricted the dom from having sexual intercourse with him, but also restricted to ‘one-to-one’ relationship. This also meant that a man could not take other slaves, nor could he use his body. When he felt the urge, he could only masturbate and endure. This overbearing clause was indeed unfair. Chu Yunhan, whose orga-m had subsided, felt a little soft-hearted when she saw him holding back so hard.

To be honest, he really admired Chu Yichen for his endurance. After so long, he could hold it back like this every time. Will he get internal injuries if he keeps holding it in like this? Chu Yunhan looked at the person lying next to him, hesitated for a while, and whispered, “How about… I can use my hands for you?”

The man turned his face to look at him and said nothing.

His face turned red, and he said awkwardly, “If you want to do it yourself, I can leave.” Then he sat up and said, “I’ll go go take a…”

He was pulled down on the bed before the word ‘bath’ could be uttered, and the slender body covered the light above his head. The man leaned over and pressed him under him. Deep black eyes were on his handsome face, staring at him closely. An ink-colored flame seemed to be burning inside, silent and hot.

Chu Yunhan wanted to slap himself twice at this moment.

Why would he take the initiative to do such a thing… What kind of misplaced generosity is this? I must be out of my mind talking so cheaply like that!

But the words had been spoken. Looking at Chu Yichen’s current state, if he said, ‘Forget it, I won’t do it’, and ran away, he would probably be skinned… Even if he were not skinned directly, his ass would be spread open next time. Since things had come to this, it was better just to do it. After all, he had pleased him for so long, so it could be regarded as reciprocating the favour.

He reluctantly reached out to unbutton the man’s shirt, but his wrist was grabbed, pulled directly under his body, and pinned to the belt.

Did this mean he didn’t need him to take off your clothes, and he could just start stroking right away?

Now that he thought about it, this guy didn’t seem to like taking his clothes off when forcing himself on him… What a peculiar habit.

Chu Yunhan blushed and untied Chu Yichen’s belt in embarrassment. He pulled down the zipper and then pulled down his underwear a little. When his palms felt the area that was about to become aroused, he couldn’t help but shrink.

       It felt hot.

The blood vessels surged, making the entire column thick and even somewhat ferocious.

“You…” He gulped. He looked at the other person who was staring at him, resignedly held the monster, and began to play it slowly.

Chu Yunhan was well aware of Chu Yichen’s stamina—after all, he’d ‘experienced it firsthand’ many times at the Chu family’s old house. At this moment, as his hand grew sore without any signs of cumming, he muttered in frustration, “If you don’t finish soon, I’m stopping.”

There was a helpless smile in the man’s slightly lowered gaze, and he said in a slightly hoarse voice, “You are clumsy and impatient.”

Chu Yunhan, who was criticised for his hard work, was not happy. He took Chu Yichen’s c0ck and squeezed it hard. He couldn’t help laughing when he saw Chu Yichen trembling and gasping.

It wasn’t until he finished laughing that he realised something was wrong.

The conversation and actions between them just now were too intimate—as if they were teasing a pair of close lovers. And this way of getting along with each other without any grudges was a bit like when they were young.

“Chu Yichen…” His eyes trembled, and he wanted to say something, but his lips were blocked.

The man’s body pressed down as if to prevent him from thinking about other things, and he continued to deepen the kiss. He pried his teeth open, stirred his tongue roughly, and kissed him until he couldn’t breathe and his body went limp before parting ways.

“If you want me to cum, just cooperate.” Hot and moist breath was on the side of his neck as Chu Yichen played with his c0ck and left spots of kisses all over his body. Finally, he held their c0cks at the same time and ejaculated together.

Two consecutive ejaculations and high-intensity lovemaking made Chu Yunhan extremely sleepy. Even though he knew that he was in the other person’s arms, he was too lazy to move again, so he let the man hold him and fell asleep. When he woke up, he was alone in the room again.

In the past three days, he had always thought of Chu Yichen unconsciously. When he thought of Chu Yichen, he couldn’t help but think about the relationship between the two, the past, and where the future is headed… His mind was a mess as he thought about it.

He rubbed his head irritably, and his brown hair became like a bird’s nest.

There was a ‘puff’ of laughter not far away. Chu Yunhan looked up and saw the woman walking over. He also smiled and leaned over to greet the little girl next to her, “Hi, little beauty.”

Yuanyuan was wearing a beautiful white sweater and red leather shoes. Although her face still looked a little shy, it no longer looked as timid as before. She looked at him with a pair of big fluffy eyes.

       “Did you have fun today?”

The little girl nodded to him, hesitated, took out a lollipop from her pocket and handed it to him.

“Giving it to me? Thank you.” He took it, tore off the wrapping paper and put it in his mouth, smiling, “It’s very sweet.”

Yuanyuan’s beautiful big eyes curved up, revealing two dimples.

“Let’s get in the car and go home together.”

“How come Young Master Yun is free to pick us up today?” Lan Xin asked as he opened the car door.

“Why, you are not satisfied with me as a driver?” Chu Yunhan joked.

“How dare I.” Lan Xin laughed and said, “You are so busy. I’m afraid I am just delaying your work.” She had escaped her alcoholic and abusive husband and stayed at Qinglan Mansion to become a maid. This allowed her not only to spend time taking care of her daughter but also to pursue learning culinary arts and flower arranging. The heavy makeup she once wore was gone, revealing a fresh and fair complexion. Her seductive and flirtatious demeanour from her nightclub days had disappeared, replaced by a gentle yet capable persona, making her an excellent assistant to the housekeeper, Feng Tai. Despite earning only 300 yuan a month, Lan Xin spent it all on snacks and essentials for Yuanyuan, refusing to keep a single penny for herself. To her, Chu Yunhan was her saviour—someone who had rescued her from a life of misery, helped her regain her innocence, and even sponsored Yuanyuan’s education at the best private kindergarten in K City. She was willing to repay these kindnesses throughout her life.

“I got off work early today, so it’s perfect to give you a ride home.” As he drove on, he suddenly thought of something and said, “By the way, tell Uncle Feng to prepare the things I need for the day after tomorrow.”

“The day after tomorrow, it’s the seventh…” She suddenly woke up, looked at the man with some sadness in her eyes, and said softly, “Okay.”

Although Lan Xin hadn’t been at the manor for long, everyone already treated her as one of their own. They didn’t shy away from discussing things in her presence, and with her knack for observing and interpreting subtle cues, as well as her sharp and clever nature, she had pieced together a general understanding of this young master’s affairs.

November 7th was Chu Qin’s death anniversary.

That was the most painful turning point in Chu Yunhan’s life. Overnight, his family was shattered beyond repair. From then on, his temperament changed drastically—the once cheerful young man became depressed. Later, he spent all his time with women and alcohol and never even returned home. This transformation left Feng Tai and the other staff heartbroken and distressed, unsure how to help him. Fortunately, he was back now. Even so, this particular date continued to make them uneasy, fearing that Chu Yunhan might hurt himself out of grief.

Maybe since she was tired from playing in kindergarten, Yuanyuan fell asleep in the car. When they returned to Qinglan Mansion, Lan Xin wanted to wake her up, but Chu Yunhan stopped her.

“Let her sleep.” He bent down, picked up the little girl from the back seat, and walked quickly through the door. In her daze, Yuanyuan softly wrapped her small hands around his neck, put her face against his neck and continued to sleep.

It was a relaxed posture that conveyed a sense of safety. Yuanyuan trusted him and was gradually emerging from her timid and fearful state. The child had suffered terribly at the hands of her biological father, but now she was slowly returning to a normal life. Although she still didn’t talk much and remained wary of strangers, she had started playing with the other children at kindergarten and was smiling more and more.

Chu Yunhan suddenly felt that he had really done something right. The feeling of being relied upon and trusted by this sensitive child even made him feel more satisfied and happy than winning the project or doubling the profit. It was like a warm breeze blew on his face and poured into your body, making his heart soft and warm.

Dr. Chen was right; deep down he did long to be needed and…to be loved.

If he could have my own family, if he could have his own children…

As he thought of this, Chu Yichen’s face suddenly flashed in his mind.

       He stiffened and stopped.

       “What’s wrong?” Lan Xin asked.

“It’s okay.” His eyelashes lowered slightly, and he continued to walk forward.

       November 7th.

It was a suitable day for offering sacrifices, betrothal, opening businesses, and travelling. It was not suitable for groundbreaking, building beams, or construction work.1usually in chinese calendar, there will be notes about what the date is auspicious for and what to avoid in the particular date

In the early morning, Chu Yunhan adjusted his collar and pressed the black cufflinks into the buttonholes with his slender fingers. He looked at himself in black clothes in the mirror, breathed out gently, turned around and said, “Let’s go.”

Feng Tai, who was standing aside, responded and followed.

The sky seemed to have been splashed with a bucket of sewage water. It was gloomy, and even the clouds were dyed with a dark colour. There seemed to be an invisible sense of oppression in the atmosphere, which made people’s moods become heavy.

Black Mercedes-Benz parked one after another outside the cemetery gate.

Chu Yunhan got out of the car. Lan Xin put a black coat on him and said, “The wind is blowing.”

He put on his coat and walked forward. People all dressed in black followed one after another. Among them were the servants from the manor and former subordinates of the Chu Qin’s families. Though their numbers were not large, they moved in an orderly and solemn manner, drawing the attention of some grave sweepers.

He walked slowly along the road in the morning mist, slowly walking towards the mountain. In the silence, there was only the sound of scattered footsteps on the fallen leaves.

On the sunny hillside of the cemetery, there was an open area isolated by a fence planted with green pines and cypresses. Two men in black who had been waiting here early nodded to him and saluted.

Three tombstones were standing there, two of them standing side by side. One belonged to the old man, and the other had the words ‘Qin Yuxuan’ engraved. Chu Yunhan took a handkerchief from Feng Tai, carefully wiped the two tombstones clean, placed white chrysanthemums in front of the tombs, and burned incense to offer prayer. After finishing, he moved to the tombstone standing alone not far away. After completing everything according to the rules, the others retreated outside the fence, leaving him alone in front of the tombstone.

“Dad, I’m here.” He said, “How have you been over there? Mom didn’t come today—you know, her lower back always acts up around this time. She’s doing well, though. I just visited her yesterday. She’s gained a little weight recently and has been learning traditional Chinese painting from a teacher. She’s very focused on it. I secretly took one of her paintings and brought it here for you to see. It’s her wish; she said she wanted to paint something for you. Even now, she’s still waiting for you to come back.”

He smiled, but his eyes were a little red, “I’ll take good care of her, so you don’t need to worry. I’m… doing pretty well now, too. I’ve taken over a few companies. There are still plenty of things in management that I’m not good at, but I’m gradually getting the hang of it. Now, I regret not taking the time to learn properly while you were here. Back then, I only cared about having fun and never thought about anything else.” He paused, lowered his head and said softly, “Dad, I made a big mistake before. Honestly, I don’t have the face to tell you about it. If you were still here, I bet you’d beat me so hard I couldn’t get up. I can’t even explain why I acted so irrationally—it was probably because I felt not taken seriously, insecure, and jealous. Chu Yichen… he’s an excellent heir. He handles everything so seamlessly. I really can’t compare to him.”

Chu Yunhan looked at his father’s black and white portrait on the cold tombstone and was silent for a while. His hands hanging by his side clenched tightly into fists. The redness in the corners of his eyes became thicker. His voice trembled in the wind, “Dad, he and I… we, we…” He couldn’t continue the words here; his lips trembled a little, and as he lowered his head, the tears accumulated in his eye sockets fell to the ground and melted into the soil.

       Shame, guilt, sadness.

The mixture became the pain of being unable to speak.

“I know this is wrong…but I can’t control it…I really…hate myself…Dad, I’m a beast…I don’t deserve to be your son…” He covered his eyes with one hand. His shoulders trembled violently as his tears blurred his vision and wetted his palms.

Although he tried to tell himself that it was just a game, although the other party deliberately blurred the relationship between the two, and although they had such a tacit understanding, when Chu Yunhan faced his deceased father, he did not have any excuse.

When the fig leaf covering the absurd relationship was torn off, all the unhappiness would be laid out naked before him.

There was no pretence, no way to avoid it, no way to resist it.

These were words he had nowhere else to say, so he could only confide them to the departed during today’s visit to the grave. It took him a long while to regain his composure. Using a handkerchief, he wiped away the traces of tears and took several deep breaths to steady himself. Only after carefully managing his expression did he finally turn around.

A figure ran into his sight without warning.

Dressed in a long black coat, the figure stood tall and upright, holding a bouquet of white carnations in his hands.

Chapter 83

Pei Qing and Zhan Weiguang both asked for leave from the school.

Zhan Weiyang had to go back to school on Monday, and Pei Qing and Zhan Weiguang took turns to accompany Zhan Pengcheng in the hospital.

Zhan Pengcheng disagreed at first and asked Zhan Weiguang to hire a nurse directly, thinking that there was no need to trouble Pei Qing.

Zhan Weiguang was a little hesitant, and he asked Pei Qing what he thought.

Pei Qing said to him, “There is no need to hire a nurse. I asked for a week’s leave from the school, and I have already come here. So I can’t take a plane back immediately.”

       Zhan Weiguang didn’t say anything.

Pei Qing saw Zhan Weiguang’s expression of wanting to say something but not being able to and asked him, “Why? What do you want to say?”

Zhan Weiguang whispered, “Are you going to tell Dad about you and Zhan Weiyang?”

Pei Qing smiled and asked him, “What do you think? Is it appropriate to tell him now?”

Zhan Weiguang considered it seriously and said, “No, my dad is not in good health now.”

Pei Qing said, “Isn’t that good for me? He doesn’t have the strength to chase me and beat me.”

Zhan Weiguang said, “Don’t joke about that.”

Pei Qing smiled and said, “Don’t worry, I will wait until the time is right.”

In the evening, when Zhan Weiguang took Zhan Weiyang home, Zhan Pengcheng and Pei Qing were left in the hospital ward.

Zhan Pengcheng felt that it was inconvenient for Pei Qing to take care of him, so he tried his best not to go to the bathroom when he was receiving an IV.

After dinner, the two sat and chatted for a while, and when the doctor came to the ward, it was almost time to go to bed.

After all, the hospital was noisy. Pei Qing lay on a single bed, which he couldn’t turn over, with his arms under his head, staring at the ceiling and thinking.

Actually, he seriously considered whether to tell Zhan Pengcheng about his relationship with Zhan Weiyang, but later, he felt that the timing was not right. When would the best time be? Pei Qing himself couldn’t tell clearly. Maybe there was no so-called best time. No matter when it was said, it would be a storm, and he must stand in front to bear it.

Of course, choosing a better time might reduce the harm to others.

The new patient in the next bed made a loud cry.

Pei Qing heard Zhan Pengcheng tossing and turning and seemed unable to sleep, so he turned over in the small bed and lay on his side.

“Pei Qing,” Zhan Pengcheng suddenly called him softly.

Pei Qing raised his head, “Uncle?”

Zhan Pengcheng said, “Do you think it’s good if Yangyang is not allowed to go to college?”

Pei Qing asked, “Then what should he do?”

Zhan Pengcheng sighed. He had been thinking about this for a long time, but he couldn’t find anyone to talk to, and he couldn’t get any suitable advice. He said, “I don’t know. I just think that he can’t get into a good university. Those messy third-rate schools are not good. I’m afraid he will be bullied.”

Pei Qing didn’t say anything. From the bottom of his heart, he certainly hoped that Zhan Weiyang could go to college, get in touch with different people, and get familiar with this society, but at the same time, he knew that what Zhan Pengcheng said made sense. Zhan Weiyang couldn’t go to a good university, and a bad environment would have a great impact on him.

Pei Qing was silent for a while and then asked Zhan Pengcheng softly, “Uncle, have you ever thought about what Yangyang should do even if he graduates from university?”

Zhan Pengcheng said, “Just stay at home. I will save enough money and let him live happily all his life.”

Pei Qing asked for the first time, “Do you want him to get married?”

Zhan Pengcheng said, “If there is a suitable girl—” He paused, turned over in bed and faced Pei Qing’s direction, “It’s not that I don’t want him to get married, I’m just afraid that those girls have impure minds. I can still take care of him while I’m alive. If I’m gone, it will be troublesome if he is bullied by others.”

Pei Qing asked, “Do you think there will be no one who really likes Yangyang?”

Zhan Pengcheng said, “Of course there will be. Yangyang is so nice; there must be someone who really likes him. The problem is that there’s no way for us to tell, and hearts change.”

Both of them fell silent. After a while, Pei Qing asked, “If there is someone who is sincere to him, what kind of person do you hope that person is?”

“What kind of person?” Zhan Pengcheng thought this question was a bit strange and said, “I hope it is a kind person.”

       Pei Qing said, “That simple?”

Zhan Pengcheng said, “If he is kind by nature, even if the love fades in the future, he won’t get hurt, right?”

Then, the two did not say anything else.

After two or three days, Auntie Luo returned from her hometown, and Zhan Pengcheng was discharged from the hospital.

Zhan Weiguang was a freshman with a tight schedule. After Zhan Pengcheng was discharged from the hospital, he immediately went back to school. Pei Qing had nothing to do at school, so he stayed and did not leave for the time being.

Zhan Weiyang was the happiest when he saw that his life was back on track. His favourite thing every day was to tell Zhan Pengcheng not to drink. After Zhan Pengcheng returned home, he did not rush to work but recuperated at home, eating three meals a day very healthily and not drinking a drop of alcohol.

Because Zhan Weiyang was in a good mental state, Pei Qing accompanied him to a follow-up examination. The doctor said that he could stop taking the medicine temporarily and let his family closely observe him. If he displayed any symptoms, he could come back for a follow-up examination immediately.

Zhan Weiyang stopped taking the medicine on Friday. The next morning, when he was having breakfast in the dining room, Pei Qing asked him, “Did you sleep well last night?”

He nodded and said that he slept well.

Pei Qing did not ask him if he had heard any noises. Instead, he peeled an egg for him and asked him, when he handed it to him, “Do you remember your flower pot?”

Zhan Weiyang took the egg and nodded, “Of course I remember.”

Pei Qing said, “Have you ever thought that you would not become a fortune tree and that your flower pot would be very lonely in the future?”

Zhan Weiyang took a bite of the egg and looked at Pei Qing, “It seems so. What should we do?”

Pei Qing said, “Why don’t we go buy a fortune tree and plant it?”

Zhan Weiyang suddenly opened his eyes wide and nodded vigorously.

They planned to go to the flower market in the morning to buy fortune trees. Zhan Pengcheng was bored at home and was excited to go with them.

Pei Qing couldn’t refuse, so he drove Zhan Pengcheng and Zhan Weiyang out.

When they arrived at the flower market, Zhan Pengcheng said, “You can choose whatever you want. Dad will pay for it after you choose.”

Zhan Weiyang didn’t say anything. He reached out, grabbed Pei Qing’s sleeve, and led him forward. They went into a shop that sold money trees. The store had both large and small ones, and Zhan Weiyang carefully inspected them one by one.

Pei Qing waited patiently by his side for him.

Zhan Pengcheng said to Zhan Weiyang, “Yangyang, why don’t you buy a potted flower? The pink flower is beautiful.”

Zhan Weiyang looked at Zhan Pengcheng unhappily.

Pei Qing said, “Let him take his time to choose.”

Zhan Weiyang looked over carefully and even touched the leaves and trunk with his hands. Sometimes, he got close as if he was whispering to the tree.

Zhan Pengcheng had already gone to the stall next door, leaving Pei Qing waiting for him outside.

Zhan Weiyang spent more than ten minutes selecting, and stopped in front of a small tree, turning back to look at Pei Qing.

Pei Qing asked him, “This one?”

       Zhan Weiyang nodded shyly.

Pei Qing whispered, “Gege will buy it for you.”

       Zhan Weiyang smiled immediately.

On the way back, Pei Qing drove, and Zhan Pengcheng and Zhan Weiyang sat in a row. He heard Zhan Weiyang humming softly, so he asked, “Is Yangyang happy?”

Zhan Weiyang looked at him and said, “Happy.”

Zhan Pengcheng didn’t get to buy a fortune tree for Zhan Weiyang, so he picked several pots of flowers, bought them together, and brought them back. Now, they were all in the back of the SUV.

He didn’t understand what attracted Zhan Weiyang to the fortune tree besides its nice name. He wanted to know more about his son and asked, “Why are you so happy?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “My flower pot will no longer be alone on the balcony.”

Zhan Pengcheng thought for a moment and said, “The flower pot must be really happy.”

Zhan Weiyang tilted his head and looked at him, “Dad, what are you talking about?”

Zhan Pengcheng was stunned by the question and said, “Didn’t you say the flower pot is happy?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “I said I’m the one that’s happy.”

“Oh— Yangyang is happy,” Zhan Pengcheng sighed secretly, not knowing how to continue the conversation with Zhan Weiyang, so he could only reach out and touch his head, saying, “Then Dad is happy too.”

Notes:
It’s just like Weiguang said before, Zhang Pengcheng is not really seeing Yanyang properly. I feel like he’s just treating Yangyang as some kind of idiot son and won’t see the potential in him simply because he doesn’t expect Yangyang to have one

Chapter 30

The sense of shame and indulgence that arose after letting go of the baggage and fully entering the role made the sexual intercourse more vivid than ever before. The depression and pain during the process made the belated climax extremely intense. Chu Yunhan, who had been suppressed for a long time, spasmed uncontrollably under such stimulation and fell with no strength. He even felt that his heartbeat had stopped for a few seconds as if he was about to die.

       Good.

       So good.

It feels so good that my body can hardly bear the load.

He closed his eyes and felt the waves of aftertaste rippling through his body, finally feeling the satisfaction he had not felt for a long time. It was like being wrapped in a huge and soft cocoon, and he wanted to stay trapped in it, indulge in it, think of nothing, do nothing until the end of the world.

However, as the climax subsided, his sanity eventually recovered, and his gradually regained consciousness would pull him back to the real world bit by bit. The cocoon that surrounded him… was an embrace—a warm skin, a firm chest, and a body that exuded a refreshing light fragrance.

He was held by Chu Yichen.

And just now, the other party used a di-do to make him want to die. Not only did he call ‘Master’, but he also cried and begged for mercy without dignity… Thinking of all this, Chu Yunhan’s face couldn’t help but get hot; even the tips of his ears were red. He closed his eyes tightly and remained motionless.

After having sex with other men, he would always have a lingering feeling of disgust, but this time, there was none—just embarrassment and shame. He really didn’t know how to face Chu Yichen, so he could only pretend to be dead spinelessly.

After a while, he felt himself being lifted up and placed on the bed in the back room, with a thin blanket covering him.

He could hide for a while, but he couldn’t hide for a lifetime. However… What should he say when he opened his eyes? Just when he was extremely confused, he felt the bed move, and his side sank slightly.

Chu Yunhan was slightly surprised. He looked over secretly and saw the man lying on his back next to him with his eyes closed.

       Is he…tired?

He looked at the other person with inquiring eyes and hesitated slightly when he saw a certain bulge.

Chu Yichen is a Dom. During the training process, he would get pleasure from controlling his sub. Besides, the other party would naturally react to how he acted just now. However, Chu Yunhan didn’t allow substantial penetration in the contract, so at the moment, the man could only endure it.

       He seems… quite miserable.

Chu Yunhan didn’t know why this idea suddenly popped up in his mind, and then he changed his mind and thought, Crazy guy, have you forgotten how miserable you were because of this guy before? Now that the scar has healed, you forget about the pain and feel sorry for him, right? He shook his head and looked away from the man’s crotch. When he raised his eyes, he happened to catch the other man’s gaze.

Chu Yichen’s face turned slightly sideways. The yellowish light softened the outline. The high bridge of his nose made his eyes appear deeper. A pair of dark eyes were watching him quietly.

Chu Yunhan sat up awkwardly, said, “I’m going to take a shower,” and entered the bathroom. When he came out after washing, the man was gone. The props were neatly packed away, and even the residual turbid liquid on the sofa had been wiped clean. The black secondary card and a signed contract remained on the table.

The reason for this avoidance was not to let him have any burden.

Chu Yichen really managed to get along with him ‘like a stranger’.

       He was really… considerate.

Chu Yunhan stood in the empty room momentarily, got dressed, and put the card and contract into his pocket. He put on a white half-face mask and pushed out the door.

If there were a first time, there would be a second and third time…

The frequency between the two was maintained once or twice a week. As Chu Yunhan gradually unravelled his knot and approached BDSM with a more open and peaceful attitude, the interactions between the two became richer. Despite the limitations imposed by that contract, Chu Yichen still found ways to add new elements within the prescribed limits, giving him a different kind of pleasure. His discomfort with the term ‘slave’ gradually disappeared, and calling him ‘Master’ became more and more comfortable. The man controlled the overall situation, and the frequency of his release, and the game stopped every time after he ejaculated.

After it was over, the two of them would lie quietly on the bed for a while—one to rest and the other to calm down their desires. Then, one went to take a shower, during which time the other packed everything up and left. This way of getting along had become an implicit and fixed action between them. There were no unnecessary words or awkward interactions.

After his body was satisfied, his mind became more stable. Correspondingly, he was more focused when working and would no longer appear restless. He majored in economics and trade, and he was not stupid. As he learned and practised, he gradually learned some ways of doing business. He also managed several companies he took over in an orderly manner and was currently considering a few big projects. In his free time, he would go swimming, exercise, and occasionally drink with his friends, but he never spent the night with anyone else.

It was not that he valued that contract too much. It was just that others couldn’t give him that strong feeling, and he didn’t want to ruin the current state between the two. Chu Yunhan understood that their current relationship was weird and fragile. It was like standing on two ends of a scale that was finally balanced. The slightest movement would destroy the balance.

From now on, will they… continue like this?

As he thought about this problem, he was tied naked, with one left leg lifted back by a rope and hung on the torture rack, exposing the secret part of his crotch.

There was a ‘pop’ sound, and the pain in his perineum made him gasp. He turned his eyes to the man standing in front of him and called softly, “Master.”

“Being merciful and not tying you up too tightly has allowed you to relax, hasn’t it?” Chu Yichen said slowly, turning the rubber hand clap. Chu Yunhan, who was caught red-handed, knew he would be punished, so he honestly and proactively admitted his mistake, “…I was wrong.”

The man threw the hand clap on the table, held his left leg with one hand, and tightened the rope with the other hand, forcing his leg to be raised higher. This one-legged hanging posture already made his centre of gravity unstable. In addition, his hands were also tightly tied behind his back. His body showed a swallow-like posture that made it extremely difficult to maintain balance, and he swayed back and forth a few times before he could barely hold on to his position. These few swaying movements alone had already made him gasp, and sweat broke out on his forehead. He looked at the other party in embarrassment, and his tone sounded like he was begging for mercy, “Master…”

“Is there any discomfort?” Chu Yichen carefully checked the rope again and tried the tightness.

“It’s… uncomfortable down there.” He replied with a blush.

Hearing this, the man raised his thin lips and smiled. He glanced at the small remote control on the table and said, “If you feel uncomfortable… Shall I turn it on?”

Chu Yunhan shook his head hurriedly, “No, don’t turn it on… please.”

A thick di-do covered with protrusions was inserted deeply between his buttocks. The knotted rope was just right on the sensitive point. The rope was embedded in the crack of his buttocks. Just a slight shake of the body would cause a burst of electric shock-like pleasure, and a numbing feeling flowed one by one, with a tendency to become more and more intense. The nipples also showed a bright red colour due to the constant friction of the rope, and they stood up hard. However, the genitals in front of him were not restrained in any way and could only be swollen and erect due to the torment of desire. Just thrusting without moving made him unable to control himself. If the switch were turned on…he would definitely not be able to hold on for a while before he would ejaculate…

But just now, his master gave him an order not to ejaculate and clearly told him what punishment he would receive—ten slaps on the butt.

After being beaten, it would be difficult for him to sit in the meeting tomorrow, so he had to endure it. He took a few deep breaths in an attempt to calm himself down but was made to groan by the sudden tightening of the rope.

Chu Yichen leaned aside leisurely, holding the rope hanging on the top of the torture frame casually with one hand. He looked at him jokingly and said, “Is it still uncomfortable? Do you need me to adjust it again?”

Chu Yunhan was shaking again and was so tortured that he was about to cry. The small hole at the front was already secreting transparent liquid under stimulation. He gasped softly and said, “No more…”

Now he knew where the top dom’s skills lay. After being tied up, his body was controlled entirely in the hands of the other party. The windings could not only fix oneself in various positions but also accurately adjust the angle and tightness without any physical contact. He used the rope to ravage every sensitive point of his body, triggering his desire. The arrangement of the knots was clever and flexible, and every movement could affect the whole body. The move just now not only felt like an invasion between the legs but also felt like a strong tug on the chest, which was so painful and numb that it almost drove him crazy.

“You don’t want it either? It’s nerve-wracking. My slave is really difficult to take care of.” The man lifted up his hand to pat again, walked around behind him, and raised his hand to pat his strong buttocks. This blow was not heavy, but it drove the di-do inserted into the hole and hit the sensitive point hard. Chu Yunhan almost ejaculated from this blow. He bit his lower lip hard and arched his back.

This action was like a domino being knocked over, causing a series of chain reactions to the bound body, causing the tide of orga-m to surge.

He didn’t dare to move anymore and could only breathe heavily.

“Do you feel comfortable?” Chu Yichen’s voice came from behind, with a hint of teasing.

Chu Yunhan was afraid that he would be tortured if he said he felt uncomfortable, so he could only blush and say, “…it feels good.”

“Want to feel even better?” The warm breath, which was close to the ear and blew on the skin, caused a tingling sensation.

He knew that he would be played with, tortured, and turned into a shameful state next, but he was filled with anticipation and excitement in his heart. He pursed his dry lips, closed his eyes, and said generously, “I want to… “

After saying that, he was slapped on the buttocks again. He groaned and said the model words in embarrassment, “Master, I want…”

Next, the man’s slender fingers touched his full sac, deliberately scratching his genitals and said, “Tell me your identity.”

“I am your slave.” He blurted out with almost no hesitation.

       “Tell me your rights.”

“As a slave, I don’t have any rights. My rights can only come from what you give. Ugh…” His c0ck was suddenly held, making him raise his neck impatiently.

       “Tell me about your obligations.”

“…Ah, haah…” The hand wrapped the rod and moved up and down. The increasing pleasure made him almost speechless, “My duty is…to make you…happy…”

“Very good.” The man chuckled, “Now call me louder, and I’ll let you cum when I’m satisfied.”

The oppression and control of his body made the feeling of being dominated stronger, and the teasing words in his ears made his heart tremble and unable to control himself. Chu Yunhan couldn’t hold it back any longer and moaned wildly. In the end, he reached a climax in the pleasure of being attacked from both sides.

After untying the rope, he only felt that his left leg was sore and numb, and his right leg was weak. He lay on the bed for a while. He wanted to force himself to get up and take a shower, but he couldn’t stand firmly and almost fell down. Chu Yichen stretched out his hand to support him and said, “Lie down and let me massage you.”

Two people were on the bed, one lying naked and the other concentrating on massaging the other’s legs.

The atmosphere was extremely quiet, and some long-lost embarrassment suddenly arose.

Chu Yunhan coughed dryly and said, “I’m really numb after being tied up for a long time.”

“This kind of binding method, which is aimed at restraining the posture, puts a strong sense of oppression on the body. It will be better to switch to tortoise shell binding or upright binding.”

He had not studied these things and did not know what postures ‘tortoise shell binding’ and ‘upright binding’ were, but in this experience, Chu Yunhan could feel the restraint, oppression, and even a sense of restraint brought by the binding. The sense of objectification made the feeling of being conquered, controlled and ravaged more intense, and the friction between the rope and the body made it easier to fall. Now that he thought about it, Chu Yichen had never used any of these on him before. At most, he had simply bound his hands and feet. This made him a little puzzled, and he blurted out, “Why haven’t you done this to me before?”

This was the first time he had taken the initiative to talk about the past. The man was silent for a moment and said, “It is easy to have problems when the other party does not cooperate. The sub might get injured.”

Chu Yunhan was stunned and said ‘Oh’. He glanced at the still bulging part of the man’s crotch and said nothing.

Chapter 82

Zhan Weiguang arrived at the hospital in the afternoon. Zhan Weiyang hadn’t remembered to inform him, but Pei Qing had.

When he came, Zhan Pengcheng had just woken up, so he sat by the bed, looked at Zhan Pengcheng, and said seriously, “Can you drink less?”

Before Zhan Pengcheng spoke, Pei Qing, who was standing beside him, said, “Do you think your father wants to?”

Zhan Weiguang turned around and said angrily, “He usually doesn’t drink less either!” After saying that, Zhan Weiguang also felt that his tone was too heavy. He stood up and silently helped Zhan Pengcheng tidy up the quilt.

Zhan Pengcheng saw that Zhan Weiyang looked a little nervous, so he said to him, “Your gege is going to cry in anger.”

“I didn’t!” Zhan Weiguang said with red eyes.

Zhan Pengcheng said again, “Okay, okay. Dad will drink less in the future and not make my good son angry.”

Zhan Weiguang frowned, “Don’t talk to me like that, I’m not Zhan Weiyang.”

Since Zhan Weiguang came, Zhan Weiyang, who had been watching Zhan Pengcheng all night without sleeping, could go back to rest.

Zhan Pengcheng urged Pei Qing to take Zhan Weiyang back to rest.

Zhan Weiguang glanced at them and said, “Qing ge, you take Zhan Weiyang back, I’ll be here tonight.”

Pei Qing nodded and said, “Then we’ll go back first.”

Back home, Zhan Weiyang took a hot bath first. He felt fine before taking a bath, but after taking a bath, he couldn’t hold on. A strong drowsiness swept over him, and he almost fell asleep on the bed immediately.

His hair was still wet, Pei Qing sat on the edge of the bed, let him lie on his lap, and blow dry his hair.

Zhan Weiyang listened to the buzzing sound of the hair dryer and fell asleep halfway through the blow-drying process.

Later, Pei Qing felt that Zhan Weiyang’s hair was dry, put the hair dryer aside, gently helped him up, and held him on his back on the bed.

       Zhan Weiyang never woke up.

Pei Qing covered him with a quilt, then sat by the bed and looked at him quietly for a long time before getting up and leaving.

Zhan Weiyang slept from the afternoon to the next morning.

Pei Qing came to his room to see him around nine o’clock in the evening. He wanted to ask him if he was hungry or if he wanted to eat something, but when he saw that he had not woken up, he quietly left and closed the door.

The next morning, Zhan Weiyang woke up from the bed after sleeping enough.

He opened his eyes and didn’t know what time it was for a while. He only remembered that it was still bright when he fell asleep, and when he woke up, it was still bright.

He was the only one in the room.

Zhan Weiyang lifted the quilt and got out of bed. He raised his hand to scratch his messy hair and walked out of the room. He didn’t know where Pei Qing was, but subconsciously, he walked to the next room, stretched out his hand to turn the door, and looked inside.

The curtains in the room were closed and the light was dim. A person could be seen lying on the bed.

Zhan Weiyang walked over directly, took off his shoes, lifted Pei Qing’s quilt and crawled in.

Pei Qing was actually tired too. Zhan Weiyang hadn’t slept all night, so he hadn’t slept either. He bought a plane ticket late at night, rushed to the airport, and took the earliest flight back. Last night, he also fell asleep as soon as he lay down in the room when he came back. It wasn’t until now, until Zhan Weiyang snuggling into his blanket, that he finally woke up.

“Yangyang?” Pei Qing’s voice was slurred.

Zhan Weiyang crawled into his arms and reached out to hug him.

Pei Qing reluctantly opened his eyes and lowered his head. He kissed Zhan Weiyang’s forehead and said, “Awake?”

       Zhan Weiyang nodded.

Pei Qing asked him, “Have you slept enough?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “I think I have.”

Pei Qing smiled and said, “You think you have slept enough? Do you want to confirm it again?”

Zhan Weiyang asked, “How to confirm it?”

Pei Qing said to him, “Close your eyes and sleep for a while.”

Zhan Weiyang really closed his eyes, lay quietly for a while, then opened his eyes and said to Pei Qing with certainty, “I have slept enough.”

Pei Qing sat up and said to Zhan Weiyang, “Let’s go and make breakfast for you.”

Zhan Weiyang went to bed yesterday without even having dinner. He was very hungry now, so he followed Pei Qing to the kitchen.

Auntie Luo was away these days, and there was nothing much to eat in the kitchen. Pei Qing asked Zhan Weiyang if he wanted to eat fried egg noodles.

Zhan Weiyang came close to Pei Qing, nodded and said, “I want.”

While cooking noodles, Pei Qing asked Zhan Weiyang, “Were you scared that day?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “Yes, I was scared to death. I saw blood all over my father’s pillow, and I was so scared.”

Pei Qing asked him again, “What about going to the hospital afterwards?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “They asked me to pay the bill and said they would arrange for me to be hospitalised.”

Pei Qing put the cooked noodles into the bowl, put the fried egg on top, sprinkled chopped green onions, and asked, “Did you go alone?”

Zhan Weiyang nodded, “I was so scared, but I was more afraid that my father would die.”

“Your father will not die,” Pei Qing said.

At this point, Zhan Weiyang suddenly became sad again. His eyes were red, and he sniffed, “I don’t dare to think about it. I’m just very scared.”

Pei Qing put down her chopsticks, turned around to look at him, put his arms around his waist, and said, “No one is going to die. Your father will recover and be discharged soon.”

       Zhan Weiyang said, “Yeah.”

       Pei Qing kissed his lips.

After the two of them finished breakfast, Pei Qing drove Zhan Weiyang to the hospital. Zhan Weiguang also had breakfast in the hospital that morning. He helped Zhan Pengcheng go to the bathroom, came back and let Zhan Pengcheng lie down on the bed, then walked to the window and looked outside.

The patient in the next bed was going to be discharged today. He packed up his things early in the morning and was just waiting for the doctor to check the room and complete the discharge procedures. At this time, the bed was empty.

Zhan Weiguang didn’t sleep very well at night and stretched out by the window. Zhan Pengcheng’s mental state was getting better day by day. He was lying on the hospital bed, looking at Zhan Weiguang’s back, and suddenly asked, “Weiguang, why is Pei Qing so good to Yangyang?”

Zhan Weiguang didn’t expect to hear this question. He paused for a moment and didn’t know how to answer. He hesitated for a while and said, “Because Zhan Weiyang is cute.”

       Zhan Pengcheng didn’t say anything.

Zhan Weiguang couldn’t help but look back at him.

Zhan Pengcheng lay on his back in bed. In just two days, he looked like he had lost weight. He looked at the ceiling, his arms stretched out of the quilt, and the light blue blood vessels on them could be clearly seen. There was also an indwelling needle on the back of his right hand. He spoke with no strength in his voice, “I just think he’s being too nice. If Yangyang were a girl, I would probably worry about whether he had any thoughts about Yangyang.”

Zhan Weiguang asked, “Isn’t it good if he’s nice to him?”

Zhan Pengcheng said, “After all, he is not your aunt’s biological son. To put it bluntly, we have no blood relationship, not even distant relatives. When Yangyang was hospitalised before, he helped to keep watch. Now that I am hospitalised, he has come all the way here. I always feel that I owe him too many favours, which is not good.”

When Zhan Pengcheng said these words, an idea suddenly popped up in Zhan Weiguang’s head. He wanted to say: Why don’t you give him your son to repay the favour. Of course, he didn’t say this, and he was terrified by his own idea.
