The Capture Target Came Out Wrong

Chapter 19

Chen Youyou had been staring at Xie Ling, full of anger that was almost overflowing, but had not thought of any way to get back at him.

Xie Ling ate very quickly. He asked Zhan Weiyang to give way. When he left the table with the plate, he suddenly said to Chen Youyou, “Please stop staring at me.”

Chen Youyou’s face suddenly turned red. He put down his chopsticks heavily, stood up suddenly, and said, “I, I, I…”

Zhan Weiyang looked at him in fear, knowing that the more angry and anxious he was, the worse his stuttering would become.

And Xie Ling had already left at this time, with headphones still plugged into his ears, so there was a high probability that he wouldn’t be able to hear what Chen Youyou said.

It took Chen Youyou a while to finish his sentence, “I-I’m not, crazy! W-why, would I, be looking, at you?”

Zhan Weiyang was very worried. He saw Chen Youyou’s face turning from red to white, and then he started puffing up, looking like a frog about to leap. So, he walked over and gently rubbed his back to calm him down, “Don’t get angry.”

Chen Youyou said, “I-it’s all your fault!”

Zhan Weiyang felt uncomfortable, nodded, and said, “It’s mine indeed. Don’t be angry.”

Chen Youyou reached out and grabbed a chopstick and tried to break it with both hands, thinking to himself: This would be Xie Ling’s fate! However, after struggling for a while, it didn’t break. So she threw the chopsticks back, thinking: That doesn’t count. Xie Ling’s fate must be even worse than this chopstick!

After dinner, Pei Qing was stopped by Grandma, saying that there was something wrong with the TV in the living room on the first floor.

Pei Qing helped Grandma adjust the TV in the living room for half an hour.

Grandma was sitting on the sofa with a thin blanket on her knees. The more she looked at Pei Qing, the more satisfied she became. She said, “If I were to have a granddaughter, I would definitely marry her to you.”

Auntie Luo happened to wash the dishes and came out of the living room. While wiping her hands on her apron, she said, “What are you talking about, isn’t xiao Pei your grandchild?”

Grandma thought for a while and said, “Right, I’m getting confused.”

Pei Qing smiled and said nothing, turned the TV to the program that Grandma wanted to watch, and then went up to the second floor.

There was a large semicircular balcony on the second floor. When he first moved here, Zhan Pengcheng spent money to buy a few pots of flowers and plants and placed them on the edge of the balcony. Now Auntie Luo was the one watering the flowers and plants.

Zhan Weiyang had been on the balcony since he went upstairs. He moved all the flowers and plants to the edge of the pot one by one and finally found the best spot in the middle. He stood there for a while, then turned around and climbed onto the balcony’s concrete railing, sitting down with his feet dangling outside.

From here, he could see a large garden in the middle of the neighbourhood and a fountain in the middle of the garden. In the evening, many parents were playing nearby with their children.

He had sweated a lot while moving the flowerpot, and the wind had cooled him down. However, his body was still a little sticky, and his legs were dangling in the air unconsciously.

       “Yangyang.”

Zhan Weiyang heard someone calling him from behind and quickly turned around to look and saw it was Pei Qing.

Pei Qing stood in front of the door leading to the balcony and said to him, “Come down.”

Zhan Weiyang turned around, crossed his legs, and jumped to the balcony floor. He walked towards Pei Qing and said, “Qing ge?”

Pei Qing said, “Don’t climb up in the future, it’s too dangerous.”

       Zhan Weiyang nodded.

After Pei Qing finished speaking, he turned and left. Today he wore a white shirt and a pair of suit trousers. The hem of the shirt was tucked into the waistband of the trousers, making his waist appear slimmer and his legs longer.

Zhan Weiyang had never seen him wear something like that, so he followed him curiously and said, “Qing ge, you look good today.”

Pei Qing walked to the door of his room, stretched out his hand to open the door, and asked, “I didn’t look good yesterday?”

Zhan Weiyang said quickly, “You look good too. You look good every day. You are the best.”

Pei Qing smiled. Of course he knew he was good-looking, but this was the first time he met someone who praised him so generously and without hesitation.

When he entered the room, he saw Zhan Weiyang following him, but he did not stop him. Zhan Weiyang slept in his room last night. He woke up early this morning and rushed to school, leaving his blanket and pillow on Pei Qing’s bed.

Pei Qing wanted to pack a change of clothes and take a shower. When he saw mud on Zhan Weiyang’s clothes, he asked, “Do you want to take a shower first?”

Zhan Weiyang shook his head, but quickly said, “Can I wash with you?”

Pei Qing said without thinking, “No.”

“Oh,” Zhan Weiyang was a little disappointed.

Pei Qing looked at him and said, “You are already this big. Do you still take a shower with someone?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “No, I just want to shower with you. I haven’t taken a shower with my dad for a long time.”

Pei Qing took out the clothes from the closet, closed the closet door, and said to Zhan Weiyang with a serious expression, “You are almost an adult, and you should pay attention to keeping an appropriate distance from others, no matter whether they are male or female.”

Zhan Weiyang looked at him blankly and said, “Okay.”

Pei Qing went to take a bath.

Zhan Weiyang returned to his room, and after a while, he came out uneasy. He walked to the bathroom door, put his ear against the door, and listened to the sound of water inside. Then, he turned around and leaned against the door, slid down, and sat cross-legged on the ground.

When Pei Qing finished taking a shower and opened the door, he lowered his head and saw Zhan Weiyang sitting with his back to him. Pei Qing withdrew his foot, which was about to step out, and asked him, “What are you doing?”

Zhan Weiyang tried his best to tilt his head back and look at him, “I’m waiting for you.”

Pei Qing asked, “Waiting for me to do what?”

The corners of Zhan Weiyang’s eyes and mouth were drooping unconsciously, and he looked unhappy. He said, “Are you unhappy?”

Pei Qing said, “Why do you think I’m unhappy?”

Zhan Weiyang’s hand grabbed his foot, and his fingers unconsciously dug into the soft skin of the instep, saying, “I feel that none of you like me.”

Pei Qing did not expect Zhan Weiyang to say this. It took him a few seconds before he asked, “Because I don’t take a shower with you?”

Zhan Weiyang shook his head, “No, I just thought I might have offended you. Today, I also offended Xie Ling and hurt Chen Youyou.”

“Who is Xie Ling?” Pei Qing asked him.

Zhan Weiyang shut his mouth suddenly and shook his head vigorously.

Pei Qing guessed it was his classmate.

Zhan Weiyang sat motionless at the door, blocking the entire door.

Pei Qing said, “Get up first.”

       Zhan Weiyang refused.

Pei Qing then squatted down and gently poked Zhan Weiyang’s lower back with his finger.

Zhan Weiyang, feeling ticklish, exclaimed, “Oh!” and immediately recoiled.

Pei Qing knew that he was ticklish and tickled his waist with his fingers.

At this moment, Zhan Weiyang felt like a switch had been flipped. His thin and soft body twisted and couldn’t help but laugh. He said, “Don’t tickle me!”

Pei Qing looked at him quietly and did not stop.

Zhan Weiyang couldn’t bear it anymore, so he bent forward and knelt on the ground to crawl forward.

Pei Qing tickled the soles of his feet.

Zhan Weiyang said, “Ah,” and hurriedly turned over to lie down on his back. He retracted his feet and hugged his knees with his hands.

With a red face and red eyes, he looked at Pei Qing while laughing and panting, and said, “No more games.”

Pei Qing reached out to him.

He nervously tried to curl up.

In the end, Pei Qing just spread his palms in front of him. Zhan Weiyang looked at it for a while and held Pei Qing’s hand. Pei Qing tried hard to pull him up.

When Zhan Weiyang used his strength to get up, he deliberately threw himself forward at Pei Qing, pushed Pei Qing down, straddled his lap, and started tickling him.

After tickling for a long time, Zhan Weiyang found that Pei Qing was unresponsive. He lowered his head, pressed his hands on his chest, and asked strangely, “Isn’t it ticklish?”

Pei Qing looked up at him, shook her head calmly, smiled slightly, and said, “It’s not.”

Zhan Weiyang thought that Pei Qing was probably lying to him, so he put his hand under the hem of Pei Qing’s T-shirt and tried to tickle his armpits.

This time, Pei Qing held Zhan Weiyang’s hand, pulled it out of his clothes, and said, “Okay, okay, stop making trouble.”

Zhan Weiyang was not very willing to give up.

Pei Qing lowered his voice slightly, “Behave.”

He retracted his hand, reluctantly got up from Pei Qing, and then pulled Pei Qing up from the ground.

Chapter 18

The next day at school, Zhan Weiyang bought a bottle of Coke for Chen Youyou from the small supermarket in front of the school, took it to the classroom, and put it in Chen Youyou’s desk drawer.

Chen Youyou ignored him when he arrived.

Zhan Weiyang took advantage of the teacher’s absence in the classroom during early self-study to poke Chen Youyou’s back with his finger lightly.

In the end, Chen Youyou turned his head and gave him a fierce look.

Zhan Weiyang retracted his finger in fear, not daring to poke him again.

When class was over, Chen Youyou’s seatmate suddenly asked him, “Why don’t you drink the coke Zhan Weiyang bought for you?”

Chen Youyou lowered his head, glanced at the Coke stuffed in the drawer, and said in a low voice, “Why, ask this?”

The seatmate said, “It’s just weird. It feels like you two were having a quarrel.”

Chen Youyou tidied his desk without saying a word and took out the textbooks for the next class.

The seatmate lamented, “I never thought you two would quarrel one day.”

Chen Youyou still didn’t drink the bottle of coke.

When the first class was over, Chen Youyou stood up from his seat and planned to go to the bathroom. As soon as he turned around, he saw Zhan Weiyang lying listlessly on the desk. As soon as Zhan Weiyang saw him getting up, he immediately sat up straight, raised his face, and looked at him with wide eyes.

Chen Youyou turned away and walked toward the back door of the classroom alone.

Zhan Weiyang showed a disappointed expression for a moment and lay back on the desk.

Chen Youyou went to the bathroom alone. After peeing alone, he came back to the classroom and saw Zhan Weiyang still lying on the desk.

He didn’t know whether Zhan Weiyang fell asleep, but Zhan Weiyang didn’t look up at him again.

Chen Youyou’s uneasiness gradually increased. He sat down, reached out, and flipped through the textbooks on the table. Then, he took out the bottle of coke from the drawer, sat sideways, and unscrewed the bottle cap.

As soon as Zhan Weiyang heard the sound of opening coke, he immediately raised his head. He looked at Chen Youyou and said, “You’re not angry anymore?”

Chen Youyou didn’t answer, but just said, “What, did you mean, yesterday saying, I can’t see you?”

Zhan Weiyang was very happy that Chen Youyou was willing to talk to him and said, “Well, I thought about it and you can come to see me. You can see me, but I don’t know if I can see you.”

Chen Youyou took a sip of coke and resisted the urge to burp, “I don’t know, what you are talking about.”

Zhan Weiyang said, “It doesn’t matter.”

Chen Youyou drank half a bottle of coke, closed the cap, and stuffed it back into the drawer, saying, “I hate Xie, Ling.”

Zhan Weiyang looked at him awkwardly, “What should we do?”

       “W-what do you mean?”

“But if I can’t pursue him, I’ll be finished.”

Chen Youyou was a little confused, “So, you, like him?”

Zhan Weiyang didn’t know what to say. Anyway, he knew that he couldn’t deny it at this time. Points would be deducted if he denied it, so he could only nod.

Chen Youyou asked, “If, you can’t pursue him, will you explode?”

Zhan Weiyang shook his head, “I won’t explode.” He paused and then said, “But I’m running out of time.”

Chen Youyou was confused, “What, out of time?”

At this time, the school bell rang. The teacher was already in the classroom. The whole class was quiet. Chen Youyou didn’t dare to speak anymore, turning back to stand up along with the whole class.

Not long after he sat down, Zhan Weiyang stuffed a folded piece of paper into him from behind. He took it and opened it to read. On it, Zhan Weiyang wrote neatly: I want to find someone to ambush him, and then I can rescue him. So that way we can meet.

Chen Youyou glanced at the teacher on the podium, grabbed a pen, and wrote under the note: You are crazy.

While the teacher was turning around to write on the blackboard, he threw the note back to Zhan Weiyang.

After a while, Zhan Weiyang threw it to him again: I saw some suggestions on the internet, and I thought I could give it a try. After all, I don’t have much time.

       Chen Youyou replied: ?

The two people passed small notes repeatedly while the teacher was not paying attention.

Zhan Weiyang: Do you still remember your Yu ge? Can we find him? I can give the money.

When Chen Youyou was young, he had a neighbour’s brother named Zhu Xinyu. Because his parents were busy at work, they often left their son at Chen Youyou’s house. During elementary school, Zhu Xinyu even helped Chen Youyou with his homework. Later, when he entered middle school, his parents divorced, and he started hanging out with troublemakers outside, failing to graduate from high school.

When Chen Youyou told Zhan Weiyang about Yu ge before, he said that he knew people outside. If they were bullied, they could ask Yu ge to help them. In the end, Zhan Weiyang had never seen this Yu ge even once.

So Zhan Weiyang came up with an idea. He could ask Yu ge to lead a few people to surround Xie Ling outside the school, and then Zhan Weiyang rushed out to stop them and help Xie Ling get out of the siege.

Chen Youyou held his face with one hand and frowned. He thought this proposal was ridiculous.

After lunch, Zhan Weiyang told Chen Youyou solemnly, “I’m almost out of time.”

Chen Youyou said, “What time, exactly?”

Zhan Weiyang gave him all the ham that Chen Youyou liked on his plate and said, “Help me.”

Chen Youyou raised his hand and scratched his nose and said: “I-I’m not, not helping you, but—”

Before he finished speaking, there was a quarrel in the cafeteria. All the students eating looked in the direction of the quarrel and saw two girls quarrelling. Zhan Weiyang was quite familiar to one of them. It was the girl who often walked together with Xie Ling.

The two girls started arguing for some reason, but the person sitting at the table next to them was Xie Ling.

As the quarrel became louder and louder, a student who was familiar with the two girls went to break up the fight. At this time, Xie Ling suddenly stood up with his meal plate and walked outside silently.

Someone called him from behind, but he didn’t look back.

This was the time when the cafeteria was crowded with the most people at lunch, and there were almost no empty seats. Only the row next to the wall, where Zhan Weiyang and the others were seated, occasionally had an available spot. Zhan Weiyang and Chen Youyou’s table was one of the last with two empty seats remaining.

When Xie Ling passed by them, he stopped, looked at the two of them, chose Zhan Weiyang, and said, “Classmate, can you let me sit in?”

Zhan Weiyang immediately stood up in a daze, retreated into the passage, and let Xie Ling sit on the empty seat next to him with a meal plate.

Chen Youyou gritted his teeth and stared at Xie Ling. He had not forgotten that Xie Ling called him crazy last night.

Xie Ling didn’t even look at him. After sitting down, he lowered his head and continued eating.

Zhan Weiyang sat back again. He picked up his chopsticks and was no longer in the mood to eat. Instead, he gently said to Xie Ling, “Hello, my name is Zhan Weiyang.”

Xie Ling stopped, nodded slightly, and then continued eating.

Zhan Weiyang said, “I am in the second and third classes of high school. I am 17 years old, 1.74 meters tall, Aries, and blood type B.”

Xie Ling stopped again, reaching into their school uniform pocket and pulling out a pair of earphones connected by a wire. He put them into his ears, one on the left and the other on the right, and ate his lunch without any distractions.

Zhan Weiyang’s last sentence trailed off, his voice growing quieter and quieter until he finally swallowed and said, “If you have time, we could go water the trees together…” He lowered his head with a melancholy expression.

Chapter 17

Pei Qing took another taxi and took Chen Youyou home first.

On the way to Chen Youyou’s house in the cab, Chen Youyou sat in the back seat without saying a word. Zhan Weiyang was next to him and tried to call his name, but he refused to answer. It seemed that he was really angry today.

When the car arrived at the neighbourhood’s gate, Chen Youyou got out of the car and said to Pei Qing, “Thank you, older cousin.”

Pei Qing smiled and said, “You’re welcome, go back and rest quickly.”

Chen Youyou picked up his schoolbag, turned around and ran towards the neighbourhood.

Zhan Weiyang leaned over the car window and looked at his back despondently.

Even after returning home with Pei Qing later, Zhan Weiyang’s mood remained very low.

At this time, both Grandma and Auntie Luo had returned to their rooms to rest. The first floor was quiet, and one needed to listen carefully to hear the sound of the TV coming from Auntie Luo’s room.

Zhan Weiyang walked in front when he went upstairs. He didn’t carry his schoolbag properly. The two straps were slung on his elbows. As he went up the stairs, the fallen schoolbag patted his thigh.

Pei Qing followed him quietly, and the two of them went up to the second floor. When they reached the door of Zhan Weiyang’s room, Pei Qing said, “Is there any homework that must be completed today?”

       Zhan Weiyang shook his head.

Pei Qing said, “Then go take a bath and sleep.”

Zhan Weiyang stared at Pei Qing’s face through the light in the corridor.

Pei Qing continued walking towards his room.

Zhan Weiyang suddenly heard the woman’s voice coming from inside his head, “The relationship status has been negatively increased, and 2 points have been deducted.”

His points had not been deducted for several days. At this time, it was like someone took a pair of scissors and cut a string inside his head. He said, “It’s over.”

Pei Qing had already touched the door handle with his hand. He stopped and turned back to look at Zhan Weiyang. He saw Zhan Weiyang standing there with a dull expression as if he had been frozen.

He could only let go of his hand, walked back to Zhan Weiyang, raised his hand to wave it in front of Zhan Weiyang’s eyes, and asked, “What’s over? Don’t be afraid, Chen Youyou won’t explode, he is just describing his mood.”

Zhan Weiyang’s gaze followed the movement of Pei Qing’s swaying palm up and down. After a while, his gaze fell on Pei Qing’s face and said, “My points are about to be deducted.”

Pei Qing asked him, “What points will be deducted?”

Zhan Weiyang seemed a little alarmed, but he was unwilling to answer Pei Qing’s question.

Pei Qing bent down slightly, allowing Zhan Weiyang to look at him at eye level, and asked in a different way, “What will happen after the points are all gone?”

This question stunned Zhan Weiyang, his round eyes showing some confusion, “All gone?” He repeated Pei Qing’s question.

Pei Qing said, “Yes, what will happen after the points are all gone?”

Zhan Weiyang’s eyes flickered, and his brows couldn’t help but frown. He said, “I might…become a plant.” This was not the answer someone told him, it was an idea that suddenly popped up in his head. He didn’t even know why he answered like this.

Pei Qing’s eyelashes trembled slightly, and he pursued Zhan Weiyang and asked, “What plant?”

Zhan Weiyang raised a hand to his chest, “A tall plant with green leaves, doesn’t bloom, and grows in a flower pot.”

Pei Qing said, “All plants have names.”

Zhan Weiyang looked at him strangely, “My name is Zhan Weiyang.”

Pei Qing didn’t ask any more questions. He stood up straight and put his hand on Zhan Weiyang’s shoulder, “Who is deducting your points?”

Zhan Weiyang shook his head, “I don’t know.”

Pei Qing looked at him silently.

Zhan Weiyang suddenly felt embarrassed after being looked at for a long time. His ears turned red, and he lowered his head as he tiptoed back and forth restlessly.

Pei Qing just said in the end, “Go to bed quickly, you need a good sleep.”

       Zhan Weiyang nodded.

The two of them separated and went back to their rooms.

Zhan Weiyang sat on the edge of the bed, put his schoolbag on his lap, unzipped it and took out the mobile phone inside. The mobile phone was almost out of battery, but he could see a dozen missed calls from Chen Youyou. Although he had already apologised, Zhan Weiyang was still very sad. He sent a message to Chen Youyou, saying: ‘Youyou, please don’t be angry with me. After another—’, he stopped typing here suddenly and started counting; he now only had 42 points left, and with 2 points deducted a day, that would be 21 days left. He continued typing: ‘—21 days, you won’t be able to see me.’

He sighed and put the phone aside. The plant that was as high as his chest and had green leaves but no flowers suddenly took root in his heart. It was as if this System had been set up like this from the beginning. He thought that when the points were deducted, he would become a plant in a flowerpot, unable to move or speak.

But in this way, it was not that Chen Youyou couldn’t see him; at least Chen Youyou could still come to visit him, so he added: ‘You can still come to visit.’

He thought he would tell Chen Youyou about this on the first day after his points were all gone, so that he would come to see him later.

After taking a shower, Zhan Weiyang put on long-sleeved pyjamas. He lay on the bed depressed and listened to the female voice say, “The user’s score today: 42 points.”

Zhan Weiyang turned over. He was suddenly afraid and huddled under the quilt. His mood did not calm down for a while.

So he got up, put on his slippers, left his room, walked to the next door and knocked on Pei Qing’s door.

Pei Qing was not asleep yet. He was sitting on the bed reading a book with a lamp on in the room. He heard a knock on the door and said, “Please come in.”

Zhan Weiyang opened the door a crack, poked his head in, looked at Pei Qing and said, “Can I talk to you for a while?”

Pei Qing nodded, “Come in and talk.”

Zhan Weiyang pushed the door open a little, walked in and closed the door again. He walked to Pei Qing’s bedside and said, “Qing ge, you must not tell my father what I told you.”

Pei Qing put down the book and asked Zhan Weiyang, “What are you referring to? The matter of you getting demerits or the matter of you turning into a plant?”

Zhan Weiyang said nervously, “Don’t say either.”

Pei Qing suddenly felt like chatting with Zhan Weiyang. He scooted over and patted the bed, saying, “Yangyang, come sit down and talk.”

Zhan Weiyang seemed hesitant, and it took him a long time to sit beside Pei Qing’s bed and only put half of his buttocks on it.

Pei Qing asked him, “You don’t want me to tell Uncle, then tell me first, who told you that your points are getting deducted?”

       Zhan Weiyang shook his head.

Pei Qing had no choice but to continue asking, “What did you do to get points deducted?”

Zhan Weiyang still shook his head.

Pei Qing said, “If you refuse to tell me anything, then there is nothing I can do.”

“I’m sorry!” Zhan Weiyang was afraid that Pei Qing would be angry, so he quickly apologised, “I was wrong, don’t be angry with me.”

His tone was so pitiful that Pei Qing couldn’t bear to question him anymore, so she said, “It’s okay, go to sleep.”

Zhan Weiyang didn’t want to get up, so he asked, “Can I sleep next to you tonight?”

Pei Qing actually hesitated but still replied, “Okay.”

Zhan Weiyang suddenly became happy. He went back to his room, brought a pillow and quilt, placed them next to Pei Qing, and lay them down very gently.

Pei Qing reached out, turned off the light, then pulled up the quilt and lay down.

Zhan Weiyang couldn’t help but get closer to him, so close that Pei Qing could smell the fragrance of Zhan Weiyang’s shower gel. It was a refreshing and soft smell, just like Zhan Weiyang.

Pei Qing turned over, facing away from Zhan Weiyang.

Zhan Weiyang closed his eyes. If his points were really going to be all gone, he would definitely tell Pei Qing in advance, hoping that Pei Qing could help him water himself by then.

Chapter 16

After Pei Qing laughed, he kept the bottle of beer and drank it.

Zhan Weiyang held the bowl in one hand and chopsticks in the other and concentrated on eating.

Qin Yishan occasionally asked Zhan Weiyang two questions. After Zhan Weiyang answered diligently, she spent most of the time chatting with Pei Qing.

Zhan Weiyang heard Qin Yishan ask Pei Qing, “Do you have a girlfriend?”

       Pei Qing said, “No.”

Qin Yishan asked: “You didn’t date in college? You should be quite popular with girls, right?”

Pei Qing said, “I haven’t met the right one.”

Qin Yishan said with a half-smile, “So, ‘the right one’ is just a metaphysics, something you can use to reject anyone you’re not satisfied with.”

“No,” Pei Qing said, “I haven’t met someone suitable yet. I have high spiritual requirements and pursue some illusory things. If I don’t like it, it’s not suitable. If it’s not suitable, I won’t accept it.”

Qin Yishan folded her arms on the table, leaned her upper body slightly forward, and asked Pei Qing, “Will you exclude me from being suitable if I am older than you?”

Pei Qing stroked the fog on the surface of the beer bottle with her fingers and said, “No, suitableness is not a range, it’s just a feeling.”

Qin Yishan sighed with a somewhat exaggerated sigh, “Then it would be better to make a list of ranges.”

       Pei Qing smiled.

Zhan Weiyang felt like he understood what they were talking about, but not entirely. However, he learned that Pei Qing didn’t have a girlfriend. That was quite strange. Zhan Weiyang realised he had never really thought about whether Pei Qing had a girlfriend or not. Subconsciously, he always assumed Pei Qing didn’t have one, just like Zhan Weiguang didn’t have one, and he himself didn’t have one.

He was almost full, put down his chopsticks, stood up politely and said, “I want to go to the bathroom.”

Pei Qing stood up to let him go and asked, “Can you find it?”

Zhan Weiyang looked up and saw the sign for the bathroom, nodded and walked over there.

The restroom in the restaurant was small and shared by men and women. He walked to the door and knocked on the door. After making sure that no one was inside, he reached out, turned the handle and entered, then locked the door.

After he finished peeing and went back, Zhan Weiyang approached the table where they were sitting from behind Qin Yishan and heard her say to Pei Qing, “Your younger cousin doesn’t look like a high school student, more like a child.”

Pei Qing heard this and said, “Yes, how cute.” After saying that, he raised his head and looked at Zhan Weiyang, waving to him, “Yangyang, come back and sit down.”

Zhan Weiyang walked back to his seat and sat down, but he didn’t touch the chopsticks again. He was already full and was waiting for Pei Qing and the beautiful sister to ask him to leave together.

After almost two minutes, Pei Qing noticed that Zhan Weiyang had not moved his chopsticks and asked him, “Are you full?”

       Zhan Weiyang nodded, “I’m full.”

Pei Qing said, “Wait for us a little longer.”

Qin Yishan then said, “Since we are all full, let’s go.”

They came out of the restaurant, and Pei Qing said that he would accompany Qin Yishan back.

Qin Yishan refused and said, “It’s my turn to take you back. You two are still students.” She was very determined and took the initiative to take a taxi, making sure to take Pei Qing and Zhan Weiyang back first.

Pei Qing and Zhan Weiyang sat in the back seat, and Qin Yishan sat alone in the passenger seat. No one spoke much on the way until the taxi stopped at the entrance of Zhan Weiyang’s neighbourhood.

Qin Yishan got out of the car with them and said to Pei Qing, “See you tomorrow.”

Pei Qing nodded, “Be safe on your own.”

Qin Yishan smiled and said, “I’ll call you when I arrive later.”

       Pei Qing said, “Okay.”

Zhan Weiyang said, “Take care, Yishan jie.”

Qin Yishan said to Zhan Weiyang, “Okay, goodbye Yangyang.” She waved her hand, turned around, got into the taxi, and asked the driver to drive.

Zhan Weiyang turned to look at Pei Qing and said, “I think this sister is very good.”

Pei Qing laughed and said, “Really?”

       Zhan Weiyang nodded.

Pei Qing patted him on the back and said, “Let’s go back.”

The two of them walked towards the neighbourhood. Pei Qing was half a step behind Zhan Weiyang. Looking at his back, he suddenly asked, “You didn’t bring back your schoolbags today? Are you not going to study in the evening?”

       School bag?

Zhan Weiyang stopped in confusion. Where is his schoolbag? I’m finished! Zhan Weiyang was so panicked that he almost spun around in circles. He had forgotten about Chen Youyou. His schoolbag was still on the seat opposite Chen Youyou in the restaurant where Xie Ling worked!

His face turned pale, even the dim light at the entrance of the residential area made everything clear. He hastily reached out to grab his phone, only to remember abruptly that he had turned it to silent during class and later absent-mindedly stuffed it into his backpack at the restaurant. It must be lying quietly inside now.

       Pei Qing asked, “What’s wrong?”

Zhan Weiyang grabbed Pei Qing’s arm and was so anxious that he almost cried, “I forgot about Youyou.”

“That classmate of yours?” Pei Qing asked.

       Zhan Weiyang nodded.

       “He didn’t call you?”

“My cell phone is in my schoolbag, and it’s there with him.”

Pei Qing asked, “Do you remember the phone number?”

       Zhan Weiyang shook his head.

Pei Qing asked again, “Do you know where he is?”

       Zhan Weiyang nodded.

Pei Qing said, “Let’s go find him.”

They took another taxi, and as soon as Zhan Weiyang got in the car, he hurriedly said, “Sir, we are going to Food Joy Fast Food.”

The driver said lazily, “Where is this Food Joy Fast Food?”

       Zhan Weiyang said, “Jinfeng Road.”

The driver pressed the meter and drove out, “Then give me directions when we get to Jinfeng Road.”

Zhan Weiyang’s heart was so anxious that he clenched his hands into fists and kept banging his left and right hands against each other. He cautiously leaned over and urged the driver, “Can you go a little faster?”

The driver said, “It’ll be quick, little buddy.”

Zhan Weiyang then leaned back on the chair and stared straight ahead.

Pei Qing noticed that the force of their fist bump was strong, and their joints even made a sound upon impact, which must have been painful. Unable to resist, he reached out and pressed his hand on Zhan Weiyang’s hand, saying, “Don’t worry, Chen Youyou is a high school student now, not an elementary school student.” When Pei Qing was in high school, he spent almost half of his time living alone.

Zhan Weiyang stopped his somewhat nervous movements and said, “He’s going to be angry.”

Pei Qing said, “When you said you were looking for a classmate, it was Chen Youyou?”

Zhan Weiyang was stunned for a moment, then lied guiltily, “Yes.”

Pei Qing said, “But when you saw me, you forgot about the appointment with your classmate?”

       Zhan Weiyang said, “Ah…”

Pei Qing said to him, “Apologize properly later.” Actually, he was more worried that Chen Youyou had gone back, and Zhan Weiyang didn’t remember Chen Youyou’s phone number. Then they would have to make a trip to Chen Youyou’s house to make sure that he had arrived home safely.

At that moment, Pei Qing suddenly thought: I wonder if Zhan Pengcheng has ever been tired of his life?

The car stopped at the entrance of the Food Joy Fast Food restaurant. As Pei Qing paid the driver, Zhan Weiyang hurriedly got out of the car. He first looked into the fast food restaurant and saw that the seat they had just been sitting in was no longer occupied.

In fact, the fast food restaurant was about to close. Although the lights were still on, there were no customers at the table, and only a few waiters were cleaning.

Pei Qing suddenly pulled Zhan Weiyang’s arm and pointed across the street.

Zhan Weiyang turned around and saw Chen Youyou squatting across the street and looking here. There was a schoolbag at his feet, which was Zhan Weiyang’s schoolbag.

“Youyou!” Zhan Weiyang shouted as he ran towards Chen Youyou.

Chen Youyou had a stern expression. When Zhan Weiyang ran up to him, he stood up, grabbed his schoolbag and threw it on Zhan Weiyang. Unable to restrain his anger, he asked, “You… Where, have you, been?”

Zhan Weiyang didn’t know how to explain, he said, “I’m sorry.”

Chen Youyou said, “I called, ten, or dozen times. But you, didn’t answer!”

Zhan Weiyang hugged his schoolbag, lowered his head and said sadly, “My mobile phone is in my schoolbag.”

Chen Youyou shouted, “I’m, going to explode!”

A couple nearby were cuddling together and passed by them. Suddenly, they heard a roar, and they were so frightened that they walked around in a semicircle and away from them.

Zhan Weiyang held his schoolbag in his right hand and pulled Chen Youyou’s sleeve with his left hand, pleading, “Don’t explode.”

Chen Youyou was so angry that he couldn’t breathe properly, and his thin chest heaved hard.

Pei Qing stayed across the street without passing by, watching them from a distance, waiting for them to speak between themselves.

The nearby fast food restaurant turned off the lights, and Xie Ling walked out of it. When passing by Pei Qing, he stopped, glanced across the street, and then walked across the street.

Xie Ling stopped in front of Chen Youyou and Zhan Weiyang and said to Chen Youyou in a cold tone, “Crazy, don’t follow me.” After saying that, he turned around and left without waiting for their reaction.

Chen Youyou and Zhan Weiyang were both stunned. After a while, Chen Youyou shouted, “Just. Go. Die!”

Notes:
Lmaooo, I actually was wondering where Youyou is or will he just magically disappear and everything fades to tomorrow
Apparently he really got left behind, lololol

Chapter 15

The woman next to Pei Qing looked to be in her twenties, wearing a blouse and a skirt, with long curly hair. She was very beautiful.

Zhan Weiyang kept staring at the woman, wondering who she was.

Pei Qing noticed Zhan Weiyang’s gaze and said to him, “This is the sister of the company where I am interning. Her name is Qin Yishan. You can call her Shan jie.”

Qin Yishan smiled and said, “He can call me jiejie, but you don’t have to.”

Pei Qing smiled and said nothing.

Zhan Weiyang was still staring at Qin Yishan in a daze.

At this time, the traffic light at the intersection had turned green, and Pei Qing said, “Let’s cross the street first.” When he was about to walk forward, he saw that Zhan Weiyang was not moving, so he reached out, grabbed his wrist, and led him across the street before letting go.

They walked across the street and stopped again.

Pei Qing asked Zhan Weiyang, “Why are you here?”

Zhan Weiyang was stunned for a moment, then came to his senses and said, “I’m here to find my classmates.”

Pei Qing asked him again, “Did you find them?”

Zhan Weiyang thought that he had already met Xie Ling, so he said, “Yes.”

Pei Qing said, “Have you eaten?”

       Zhan Weiyang shook his head.

Pei Qing said, “We are getting ready to have dinner. Let’s go together.”

Qin Yishan stood by the side with her arms crossed in front of her chest. Her gaze shifted between Pei Qing’s face and Zhan Weiyang’s face. A faint smile lingered on her own face throughout.

Zhan Weiyang didn’t think much, nodded, and said, “Okay.”

Pei Qing then turned to Qin Yishan, “Where is the restaurant you mentioned?”

Qin Yishan looked forward and said, “We’re almost there.”

The three of them walked forward side by side. Zhan Weiyang felt a little awkward walking beside Pei Qing.

Qin Yishan asked Pei Qing as she walked, “You said your family isn’t from here, right? Then how come you have a younger brother here?”

Pei Qing said, “This is my younger cousin, Zhan Weiyang.”

Qin Yishan glanced at Zhan Weiyang, who was walking on the other side of Pei Qing, and said, “Younger cousin, no wonder you don’t look alike.” She looked at Zhan Weiyang’s school uniform and asked, “High school student?”

Pei Qing responded, “Second year in high school.”

Qin Yishan smiled at Zhan Weiyang.

Zhan Weiyang wasn’t actually very happy, but he still smiled back at Qin Yishan out of politeness.

Qin Yishan took them to a restaurant specialising in beef. When they entered, there was an empty booth by the window. Pei Qing asked Zhan Weiyang to sit inside, and he sat beside him. Qin Yishan sat opposite them and waved for the waiter to come and take their order.

When the menu was brought, Qin Yishan took it and handed it to Zhan Weiyang, saying, “Younger cousin, you can order whatever you want. Jiejie will treat you to dinner today.”

Zhan Weiyang looked at the menu in front of him and felt momentarily at a loss.

Pei Qing lowered his head, approached Zhan Weiyang and said softly, “Just order it, I’ll treat you.”

When Qin Yishan heard this, she immediately said, “That won’t do, we agreed that it’s jiejie’s treat.”

Pei Qing said, “Didn’t you say that I don’t have to call you jiejie?”

Zhan Weiyang couldn’t help but look up at Qin Yishan and saw her looking directly at Pei Qing with a completely different smile on her face, which Zhan Weiyang couldn’t describe. He reached out and pushed the menu in front of Pei Qing and said, “I don’t know what to order.”

Pei Qing took it and handed it back to Qin Yishan, saying, “It’s better if you do it.”

Qin Yishan no longer refused this time and familiarly ordered three dishes and a soup, handed the menu back to the waiter, and then said, “This restaurant really tastes good.”

Pei Qing nodded, “What you recommended must be good.”

Tonight, Pei Qing was working overtime for a while at the company where he was interning. When it was about to end, Qin Yishan, who worked in the company, took the initiative to invite him to have dinner. The two of them had some contact at work, but not much. Pei Qing was a little surprised but didn’t refuse.

This restaurant was also Qin Yishan’s suggestion. It was not far from their company. It took the two of them less than twenty minutes to walk from the company. If they hadn’t met Zhan Weiyang on the way, it would have been faster.

The restaurant’s business was so good, but the food service seemed a bit slow.

While waiting for the food to be served, Pei Qing had been chatting with Qin Yishan, and the two of them were talking about things related to their work. Because Pei Qing was only a senior in college, Qin Yishan also gave him a lot of career advice about his future.

“Are you planning to go to graduate school?” Qin Yishan asked Pei Qing.

Pei Qing replied, “I’m considering it.”

Zhan Weiyang could understand at most a third of what the two of them were talking about. He had been sitting quietly. At first, he was listening to their conversation and watching them, but later, he was shaking his legs restlessly.

Pei Qing stretched out a hand under the dining table to hold down Zhan Weiyang’s shaking legs, looked at him, and asked, “Are you hungry?”

Zhan Weiyang was actually hungry, but he shook his head and said, “Not hungry.”

Pei Qing’s hand did not move away from his leg. Through the thin layer of school uniform pants, Zhan Weiyang felt the warmth and pressure of his palm. When Zhan Weiyang couldn’t help but fidget again, Pei Qing’s fingers even tightened inward, giving him a little pinch.

Zhan Weiyang felt itchy from being pinched by him and did not dare to move.

Pei Qing called the waiter and asked her how long the food would have to wait. When the answer was a little perfunctory, she asked the waiter if there were any snacks that could be served immediately.

The waiter said there was Ice Jelly1Bingfen, also called ice jelly, is a Chinese dessert native to Southwest China in provinces such as Sichuan, Guizhou, and Yunnan. It is served as a bowl of iced transparent jelly, made from the seeds of the Nicandra physalodes plant, along with toppings like haw flakes and wolfberries.

Pei Qing looked at Qin Yishan, “Yishan jie, do you want it?”

Qin Yishan said, “I don’t eat cold food.”

Pei Qing said to the waiter, “I want a bowl.”

The waiter turned and left and quickly brought them a bowl of brown sugar Ice Jelly and placed it on the table. Pei Qing released the hand holding Zhan Weiyang’s thigh and lifted it up to hold the small spoon in the bowl, stirred the brown sugar liquid that was covered on top of the Ice Jelly before pushing the whole bowl in front of Zhan Weiyang and said, “You eat first. “

Zhan Weiyang lowered his head, took a spoon and took a spoonful of Ice Jelly, and put it into his mouth. He felt that the Ice Jelly was sweet, and he felt less anxious instantly. He turned his head and looked up at Pei Qing.

Pei Qing was also looking at him, and after meeting his gaze, he smiled at him.

Zhan Weiyang then also smiled, lowered his eyes and continued to eat the Ice Jelly.

Qin Yishan supported her chin with one hand and looked at them for a long time before saying, “You take good care of your younger cousin.”

Pei Qing said, “I am now living in their home. My uncle and grandma take good care of me. It is my duty to take care of him.”

Strictly speaking, Zhan Weiyang’s grandmother was Pei Qing’s grandmother, but in the end, there was no blood relationship. After Pei Qing came here, he had been calling Zhan Weiyang’s grandmother, Grandma, and no one thought there was anything inappropriate.

Qin Yishan didn’t know about Pei Qing’s relationship with the Zhan family, so naturally she thought nothing was wrong. She just looked at Pei Qing with a smile and said, “Your character is much more mature than your actual age.”

Pei Qing smiled and said, “Maybe I just look older.”

“I’m talking about personality, not appearance,” Qin Yishan said, “When you first came to our company as an intern, I felt that you were calmer than other college students. Nowadays, many men are still like children after they graduate from college and work. You… On the contrary, are still a student but feel more stable and reliable than them.”

Pei Qing laughed, lowered his head, picked up the chopsticks on the table, and put them down gently without saying anything else.

At this time, the waiter finally brought the dishes.

Qin Yishan asked Pei Qing, “Want to drink some beer?”

Pei Qing said, “Do you want to drink? If you want to drink, I can accompany you.”

Qin Yishan shook her head, “I don’t drink.”

Pei Qing said, “Then I won’t drink either.”

Hearing this, Qin Yishan said, “Drink some. This kind of weather is suitable for a bottle of beer.”

Pei Qing seemed to hesitate for a moment, then raised his hand and asked the waiter to open a bottle of beer and bring it over.

The beer was frozen, and the glass bottle was covered with a layer of white mist.

Zhan Weiyang had just finished eating the Ice Jelly and saw the mist on the wine bottle. He couldn’t help but stretch out his finger to wipe it.

Pei Qing reached out to pick up the wine bottle and put it on Zhan Weiyang’s face.

Zhan Weiyang said, “Oh!” and hurriedly ducked to the side with his neck scrunched up. When he couldn’t hide away, he raised his hands to cover his face.

Pei Qing asked him, “Want to drink?”

Zhan Weiyang covered his face, which was red from the cold, and nodded.

Pei Qing stretched out the mouth of the beer bottle in front of him. He really thought that Pei Qing wanted him to drink, so he leaned over and as soon as his lips touched the mouth of the bottle, Pei Qing took the bottle away and said, “I just remembered. You are still a high school student, you can’t drink.”

Zhan Weiyang wanted to say that he had actually drunk with Chen Youyou, but he was afraid that Pei Qing would be angry if he found out, so he said, “I just remembered too.”

Pei Qing immediately looked at him and smiled.

Chapter 14

If the female voice hadn’t coldly announced Zhan Weiyang’s today’s score every night, Zhan Weiyang would have thought his System was dead. But his score hadn’t changed for a long time either, and he wished it was dead.

After suffering knee pain for two or three days, Zhan Weiyang basically stopped limping when walking. It was no longer painful to stand up and sit down in class every day.

Moreover, it had been raining at night for the past few days, and the hot temperature that had lasted all summer had finally begun to slowly drop. Grandma took out her dark red patterned jacket and put it on, always telling Zhan Weiyang that he was underdressed and that he should be careful of catching a cold.

Zhan Weiyang went to the bathroom with Chen Youyou after class. When he came back, he saw a girl sitting in his seat, chatting animatedly with her deskmate, Zhou Hanyi.

The girl’s name was Xu Yuxuan. She was a good friend of Zhou Hanyi. She had a lively personality and a hot temper. Zhan Weiyang was a little afraid of her. He stood at the back door of the classroom and looked at her silently, not daring to go back to his seat.

Chen Youyou pulled his arm and told him to sit down in his row first. Chen Youyou’s deskmate was their class monitor. After class, she went to find her boyfriend whom she was secretly in a relationship.

Zhan Weiyang sat down next to Chen Youyou and heard Xu Yuxuan say to Zhou Hanyi, “Do you know that Xie Ling in the first year of high school?”

Chen Youyou glanced at Zhan Weiyang.

Zhan Weiyang heard Zhou Hanyi say, “Of course I know, that’s the one who is very handsome.”

Xu Yuxuan said, “I heard that his family is quite poor.”

“Oh,” Zhou Hanyi’s tone was not very enthusiastic.

Xu Yuxuan was obviously very interested in Xie Ling, “Someone saw him working at night.”

Zhou Hanyi said, “Does he have a girlfriend?”

Xu Yuxuan became cold and indifferent, “Isn’t there a girl in his class who eats with him every day?”

Zhou Hanyi smiled and said, “There must be many people chasing him.”

The two of them changed the topic at this point, and Xu Yuxuan started talking about a novel she had read recently.

Zhan Weiyang kept listening to them talking and felt that he was very nervous. After a long time, he mustered up the courage to turn his head and shouted, “Xu Yuxuan.”

Xu Yuxuan was stunned for a moment, realising that this was the first time Zhan Weiyang took the initiative to talk to her and asked curiously, “What is it?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “Do you know where Xie Ling works?”

Instead of answering, Xu Yuxuan asked back, “Why are you asking that?”

Zhan Weiyang didn’t know how to answer this question.

Chen Youyou turned around and said, “He also, wants to find a place to work, so he just a-ask.”

Xu Yuxuan smiled and said, “O-okay. I heard he’s at the Food Joy Fast Food on Jinfeng Road. There are also girls who go there to eat just to see him.”

Chen Youyou was not happy that Xu Yuxuan imitated him, but since the other party returned to his question, he could only say ‘thank you’ reluctantly.

The two people turned back, and Zhan Weiyang grabbed Chen Youyou’s sleeve and said, “Let’s go check it out tonight.”

Chen Youyou asked him, “Eating dinner?”

       Zhan Weiyang nodded, “Let’s eat.”

Chen Youyou said, “Then, I’ll call, my mother in the, afternoon.”

In the afternoon, Zhan Weiyang also called home. He used a landline and squatted behind the teaching building to make the call secretly. Because the head teacher did not allow them to bring mobile phones to school, he usually turned off the sound and hid them in his school bag.

The phone rang several times before it was connected. The person who answered the phone was Auntie Luo.

Zhan Weiyang said, “Auntie Luo, I won’t be back for dinner tonight.”

Auntie Luo asked him, “Then where are you going to eat?”

Zhan Weiyang lied, “My classmate invited me to dinner.”

At this time, Grandma’s voice came from the other side of the phone, “Who is it?”

Auntie Luo answered Grandma, “Yangyang, he said that his classmates would treat him to dinner tonight, and he wouldn’t be back.”

Grandma said, “Why isn’t Yangyang back either? No one has come back today at all.”

Zhan Weiyang heard this and asked Auntie Luo, “Qing ge also not coming back?”

Auntie Luo responded, “Well, Pei Qing won’t come back either.”

Zhan Weiyang said ‘Oh’ and then said, “Then I won’t be back either. Goodbye, Auntie Luo.” After saying that, he hung up the phone and still squatted on the ground against the wall. He picked up a fallen leaf from the tree with his fingers. He pinched the leaf stalk and turned it in two circles, thinking that he wondered where Pei Qing would go for dinner in the evening.

After school in the afternoon, neither Zhan Weiyang nor Chen Youyou wanted to ride a bicycle, so they waited for the bus at the bus stop in front of the school and squeezed in with other students after school.

At this time every day, the bus would be packed with students leaving school. It was so packed that there was no gap left between people. Even those of shorter stature found it difficult to breathe.

A short girl stood between Zhan Weiyang and Chen Youyou like a piece of Oreo. The three of them were close together. Neither of them could see her face and could only chat above her head.

Chen Youyou said, “My mother, scolded me.”

Zhan Weiyang said, “It’s all my fault.”

Chen Youyou shook his head, “You, are my brother.”

Zhan Weiyang said, “You are so nice.” He suddenly thought that everyone was nice to him, including Chen Youyou, his older cousin, Auntie Luo, and his father and grandma. Only Zhan Weiguang was not too nice, but Zhan Weiguang did not bully him; he just did not pay much attention to him.

After getting off the bus, the two of them walked for seven or eight minutes to find the fast food restaurant, walked in, found an empty table and sat down.

The fast food restaurant was busy at this time, and although there wasn’t a queue yet, there were almost no empty tables.

Chen Youyou raised his hand to call the waiter, and Zhan Weiyang was in charge of ordering. After ordering and waiting, the two of them looked together, hoping to find Xie Ling, but unfortunately, they did not see him.

Zhan Weiyang couldn’t help but ask, “Is this the place?”

Chen Youyou frowned, “Unless, Xu Yuxuan lied, to us.”

Both of them felt that Xu Yuxuan would not make up a fast food restaurant to deceive them. Either that or Xie Ling wasn’t coming to work tonight.

The food came, and when Zhan Weiyang picked up his chopsticks and was about to pick up a sweet and sour pork loin, Chen Youyou suddenly knocked Zhan Weiyang’s chopsticks with his own chopsticks, “Look, Xie Ling is here!”

Zhan Weiyang quickly raised his head, and sure enough, he saw Xie Ling walking in from the outside. He had changed out of his school uniform, wearing a T-shirt and jeans, with headphones in his ears, and his head was slightly lowered when walking.

He walked through the lobby of the fast food restaurant and went directly into the kitchen. After a while, he came out with a plastic bag containing a disposable lunch box and left the fast food restaurant in a hurry.

On the way out, Xie Ling passed by two girls in school uniforms. The two girls looked excited. It seemed like what Xu Yuxuan said; there were girls from their school who came here to eat just to see Xie Ling.

Zhan Weiyang and Chen Youyou’s seats were close to the window. His eyes followed Xie Ling as he blended into the crowd on the street and hurried forward.

Chen Youyou said, “He must be, delivering takeout.”

       Zhan Weiyang did not answer.

Chen Youyou said again, “I wonder if he, will come back after, we finish eating?”

Zhan Weiyang stared outside blankly, still not answering.

Chen Youyou said, “Will you, wait for him later? Do you, still want to say, something to him?”

       Zhan Weiyang suddenly stood up.

Chen Youyou looked at him in surprise, then turned to look outside the window but didn’t see anything.

Zhan Weiyang looked anxious, couldn’t control himself, and wanted to run outside. He said, “Wait for me. I have something to do.”

Chen Youyou opened his eyes wide and looked confused, “Where are you going?”

Zhan Weiyang had already walked outside. He said, “Keep an eye on Xie Ling for me. I’ll be back in a moment.” After saying that, he dodged the two female classmates who were looking for seats and ran out in a hurry.

It was evening, and there was no sun today. The sky in the distance was simply white amid the hazy grey, and the street lamps on the roadside had already lit up at some point. Their warm orange light illuminated the surroundings.

This street had many restaurants and shops selling marinated and cooked food. Many young people who had just finished work were searching for restaurants, while middle-aged people were buying dishes from the cooked food shops to take home for their families.

Zhan Weiyang ran through the crowd, always looking at the slender figure in front of him until, at an intersection, the person in front stopped and waited for a red light. He ran up, stood in front of him, panting heavily, and grabbed the person’s wrist, blurting out, “Gege.”

Pei Qing was obviously a little surprised and raised his eyebrows.

Before he could speak, a young woman next to him looked at Zhan Weiyang, smiled and said, “Your little brother?”

Chapter 13

The sun seemed to come out too early on Sunday morning. Zhan Weiyang hadn’t gotten enough sleep before the sun’s rays shone in through the window and onto the bed, reflecting the pattern of the curtains on his quilt.

He slowly turned over in the quilt, stretched out a few fingers to grab the edge of the quilt, and pulled his head up into the quilt until most of his face was covered, and then his fingers slightly loosened, weakly. He was resting on the edge of the quilt and didn’t want to move.

He slept until noon and didn’t get up until Pei Qing came to wake him up.

When Zhan Weiyang got out of bed, he found that his right knee hurt more than yesterday. It hurt even when he bent it even slightly. He put on a pair of long pants and walked downstairs slowly with his right leg straight.

When his grandmother saw him walking downstairs, with a worried look on her face, she said, “Why is it worse than yesterday?”

       Zhan Weiyang said, “I’m fine.”

Grandma waved to him, “Come here.”

Zhan Weiyang tried hard not to look so limp when he walked to his grandma.

Grandma was sitting on the sofa, bent down and rolled up Zhan Weiyang’s trouser legs to look at the injury on his knee. She couldn’t see if there was something wrong with it, so she had to raise her head and shout, “Qingqing.”

Pei Qing was helping Auntie Luo set the table. When he heard her call, he put the chopsticks in his hands on the dining table and walked towards them, “Grandma.”

Grandma said, “You take Yangyang to the hospital this afternoon. I’m afraid he may have broken a bone.”

Pei Qing squatted down, gently poked Zhan Weiyang’s red and swollen knees with his fingers, and then looked up at him.

Zhan Weiyang opened his eyes wide and pursed his lips, shaking his head at him.

Pei Qing asked, “Does it hurt?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “It doesn’t hurt very much.”

Pei Qing took a look at her grandma’s anxious expression and said to Zhan Weiyang, “It’s better to go to the hospital.”

Zhan Weiyang suddenly bent down, put his arms around Pei Qing’s shoulders, and whispered in his ear, “I don’t want to go to the hospital.”

Grandma’s ears were not that good as she was older, and she couldn’t hear clearly what Zhan Weiyang said.

After he finished speaking, Zhan Weiyang still held Pei Qing’s shoulders and looked at him nervously.

Pei Qing then said, “Bend your knees.”

Zhan Weiyang moved slowly, endured the pain, and squatted down. He then stood up, holding onto the sofa.

Pei Qing stood up and said to Grandma, “The bones are fine. If he breaks his bones, he won’t be able to move. Don’t worry, Grandma.”

Grandma said, “As long as his bones are not broken.”

Pei Qing said, “I will buy him some bruise-healing medicine to promote blood circulation and remove blood clots and spray it on him in the afternoon. He should be fine soon.”

Grandma nodded, “Alright then, let’s eat first.”

After lunch, Grandma and Auntie Luo saw that the weather was fine and pushed the wheelchair out for a walk in the park again.

Pei Qing went to buy medicine for Zhan Weiyang, and Zhan Weiyang was the only one left at home.

Just as Zhan Weiyang limped his way up the stairs to the second floor, he heard the sound of the doorbell downstairs. Somewhat displeased, he peeked out of the window of his room to see Chen Youyou standing at his doorstep, holding a plastic bag and looking bored as he waited for someone to answer the door.

“Chen Youyou!” Zhan Weiyang felt strange and called him from the window.

Chen Youyou waved his hand, “Hurry, come open the door.”

Zhan Weiyang said, “My knees hurt.”

Chen Youyou said, “It’s so hot.”

Zhan Weiyang said, “I just came up.”

Chen Youyou said, “Do you have ice, coke at home?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “I’ll be there. I’ll open the door for you.”

He closed the window, left the room, walked downstairs with one leg straight, holding on to the handrail, and walked over to help Chen Youyou open the door to his home.

Chen Youyou came in, grabbed his clothes, fanned himself, and handed him the plastic bag.

Zhan Weiyang lowered his head and asked, “What?”

       Chen Youyou said, “Gr4p3s.”

Zhan Weiyang looked at him without knowing why.

Chen Youyou said, “I t-told my Mom that you fell and got hurt, and I’m coming to see you. My Mom asked me to buy some fruit.”

Zhan Weiyang said quickly, “Thank you, Auntie.”

Chen Youyou waved his hand, changed his shoes and walked inside. This was not the first time he came to Zhan Weiyang’s house, and he didn’t need Zhan Weiyang to lead the way. As he walked, he said, “Ice Coke, Ice Coke.”

Zhan Weiyang followed him and said, “There is no ice coke. There is ice cream.”

       Chen Youyou said, “That’s fine.”

After eating an ice cream, Chen Youyou stretched his legs comfortably, half lying and half sitting on the sofa.

He casually found an excuse to go out, mainly to play games with Zhan Weiyang and to visit Zhan Weiyang’s injury. Seeing Zhan Weiyang limping, he asked in a perfunctory manner, “Is it still painful?”

       Zhan Weiyang replied, “It’s okay.”

Chen Youyou said next, “Then let’s play games.”

       Zhan Weiyang said, “Okay.”

The two of them were sitting on the sofa, playing mobile games as a team.

Zhan Weiyang’s gaming skills were as good as his basketball skills; in fact, he was even better than Chen Youyou, able to carry him to higher ranks in the game.

But just as they were starting their second game, Zhan Weiyang heard the sound of keys unlocking the door. He instinctively put down his phone and turned to look, and saw Pei Qing coming in from the outside with a plastic bag in his hand.

Zhan Weiyang stood up quickly and called out, “Qing ge, you are back!” He walked towards the door, remembering that Pei Qing had gone out to buy medicine for him.

Pei Qing glanced at Chen Youyou, who was focused on playing games on the sofa, then looked at Zhan Weiyang and asked, “Does it still hurt?”

When other people asked Zhan Weiyang this question, he said it didn’t hurt, but when he heard Pei Qing ask him, he subconsciously said, “It hurts.”

He felt that if he said it hurt, Pei Qing might comfort him.

Sure enough, Pei Qing reached out, touched his head, and said to him, “Go sit down, and I’ll spray you with some medicine.”

Zhan Weiyang walked to the sofa and sat down. Just as they lost this round, Chen Youyou raised his head in anger and shouted, “Zhan Weiyang!”

With a smile on his face, Zhan Weiyang said to Chen Youyou, “This is my older cousin—Pei Qing.”

Chen Youyou looked at Pei Qing, stood up for a moment, and said, “Hello, older brother cousin.”

Pei Qing smiled at him and said, “Hello.”

Zhan Weiyang stretched out his right leg and rolled up his trouser leg, his eyes filled with anticipation as he waited for Pei Qing.

Pei Qing put the plastic bag on the coffee table in the living room, squatted down, took out the bruise spray inside, lowered his head and read the instructions carefully. After a while, he unpacked the package, holding Zhan Weiyang’s calf and the other holding the spray bottle aimed at his knee; he sprayed a bit and then looked up, asking him, “Does it hurt?”

Zhan Weiyang felt that the calf he was holding was itchy, and he couldn’t help but want to move it. However, he felt nothing from the wound, so he shook his head.

Pei Qing continued to spray medicine on his knees and, at the same time, said, “Don’t keep moving; don’t go up and down the stairs.”

       Zhan Weiyang said, “Oh.”

After spraying medicine on his right leg, Pei Qing asked him to roll up his left trouser leg as well and also sprayed some medicine on the minor scratch on the left side.

During this process, Chen Youyou kept looking at them with a somewhat dumbfounded expression.

Pei Qing sprayed Zhan Weiyang, put the spray cap on the coffee table in the living room, and then said, “You guys take your time and play.” After that, he walked towards the stairs.

Zhan Weiyang and Chen Youyou watched him go upstairs together.

Chen Youyou turned around and said to Zhan Weiyang, “Your older cousin is, very handsome.”

       Zhan Weiyang nodded in agreement.

Chen Youyou added, “Do you think he, or Xie Ling is handsome?”

Zhan Weiyang opened his mouth and suddenly realised that there were some things he couldn’t say, and if he did, he might get points deducted. He held it in until his face turned a little red, and he closed his mouth with difficulty.

Chen Youyou said to himself, “It’s better, be the older cousin.”

       Zhan Weiyang asked him, “Why?”

Chen Youyou said, “He seems, nice.”

The two played games all afternoon. Chen Youyou got up to leave when Grandma and Auntie Luo came back.

Grandma asked him to stay for dinner, but he refused to agree no matter what and said he wanted to go back, so Zhan Weiyang sent him out. He originally wanted to escort him to the gate of the neighbourhood, but Chen Youyou stopped him, saying that he was limping when he walked, so he’d better be good and stay at home.

When Zhan Weiyang came back, Auntie Luo had just entered the kitchen to prepare dinner. Grandma turned on the TV to watch TV series.

It was still a little early, so Zhan Weiyang thought of going upstairs. As he took a step onto the staircase, he suddenly remembered that Pei Qing had just told him to stop moving and not to go up and down the stairs. So he silently took his feet back and walked over to sit beside Grandma on the sofa and watched TV with her instead.

Chapter 12

The moment he jumped off the bus, Zhan Weiyang found that his right knee was clearly hurting more than his left, so he couldn’t help but limp while walking and walked towards the neighbourhood’s gate with his school bag on his back.

The sun was shining down from above his head, and Zhan Weiyang started to sweat again after walking a short distance. A drop of sweat slid down his cheek, flowing through the white and reddish skin, leaving a trace.

When he got home, no one was on the first floor, and even the TV was turned off. This means that neither Grandma nor Auntie Luo were at home, and Auntie Luo should be pushing Grandma’s wheelchair to accompany her for a walk. Grandma would go for a walk in a nearby park when the weather was nice. She couldn’t walk far, so Auntie Luo would push the wheelchair, and when she got tired from walking, she would let her sit down and watch the children running and playing in the park.

Zhan Weiyang threw his school bag on the sofa, walked to the kitchen with one leg, took a glass cup, and put a glass of cold purified water under the water purifier. He raised his head and drank the whole glass of water.

He took a deep breath, raised his hand to wipe the sweat from his face, rinsed the inside under the sink, and put it back in the cupboard.

When he turned around, he suddenly found Pei Qing standing at the door of the kitchen, with his hands in his trouser pockets, leaning against the door frame and looking at him.

Zhan Weiyang was actually startled. He didn’t hear Pei Qing’s footsteps and didn’t know when Pei Qing appeared. However, he opened his mouth without screaming and tried his best to swallow his surprise, then called out, “Qing ge?”

Pei Qing’s eyes dropped from his red cheeks to his knees and asked, “Did you fall?”

Zhan Weiyang looked down and found two clear marks on his school uniform trousers, the very same dust that had stained his knees when he knelt on the ground. He raised his head, suddenly ashamed, and said, “I accidentally fell while riding my bicycle.”

Pei Qing asked him, “Are you hurt?”

Zhan Weiyang bent down. His body was flexible enough that he could almost fold himself in half and embrace his own legs. He pulled his trouser legs up with both hands until they reached past his knees. Only then did he say, “Oh, there’s some blood.”

Pei Qing came over, squatted in front of Zhan Weiyang, pulled up his other trouser leg, looked up at him, and asked, “Is there a medical kit?”

       Zhan Weiyang nodded.

The sunlight in the living room on the first floor was never quite sufficient. There was a big tree next to the window, with thick branches and leaves that covered the sunlight. Therefore, even in the summer, the first floor always remained pleasantly cool, and Grandma never needed to turn on the air conditioning.”

Zhan Weiyang’s sweat had already dried up, sticking to his skin, as if blocking his pores and making it difficult for his skin to breathe. He looked down at Pei Qing’s head and thought to himself that he should have taken a shower first. Otherwise, if Pei Qing helped him apply medicine and then he went to take a shower, he would wash off all the medicine. However, if he didn’t take a shower, he would feel very uncomfortable.

Pei Qing lowered his head and wiped his wound with a cotton swab dipped in iodine. He moved very gently.

From Zhan Weiyang’s perspective, he could see Pei Qing’s sharp profile, the straight bridge of his nose, and the extraordinarily long eyelashes at the corners of his eyes.

The injury on his knee was more serious than the injury on his palm. Pei Qing helped him disinfect it and found a medical dressing from the medicine box to apply it.

Then Zhan Weiyang took the initiative to stretch his hand to him.

Pei Qing took a look at his hand and said, “It’s just a little scratch; there’s no need to patch it up.”

Zhan Weiyang took back his hand and said with some disappointment, “Oh.”

Pei Qing put back everything he had just rummaged through the medicine box.

When Zhan Weiyang got off the sofa, his stomach growled without warning, and he felt that he was hungry. He secretly glanced at Pei Qing and saw that there was no change in Pei Qing’s expression. He thought Pei Qing didn’t hear him, so he stood up, limped into the dining room, opened the refrigerator and wanted to find something to eat.

There weren’t many snacks at home, and the fridge only had a bowl of leftover stir-fried pork with green peppers from lunch, along with a bowl of white rice. There weren’t any other cooked dishes available.

Zhan Weiyang closed the upper door, bent down to pull the freezer drawer below, and wanted to eat an ice cream. Before he could get it, he heard Pei Qing ask him from behind, “Didn’t have lunch?”

       He turned back and nodded.

Pei Qing came over, reached out and closed the freezer drawer first, and then said, “Would you like egg fried rice?”

Zhan Weiyang looked at him blankly and said, “Yeah.”

Pei Qing opened the door of the refrigerator again, took out the bowl of leftover rice, and then took two eggs and a green onion. When closing the door, he hesitated and took another ham.

He said to Zhan Weiyang, “I haven’t done it in a long time, let me try.”

Zhan Weiyang followed Pei Qing into the kitchen and watched him beat the eggs and then cut the ham into small pieces.

Pei Qing’s movements were not very skilful. It seemed that he had cooked before, but he didn’t do it often.

Zhan Weiyang was close to Pei Qing, and Pei Qing’s elbow would touch him occasionally if he moved too much.

“Do you want to wait outside?” Pei Qing asked Zhan Weiyang.

Zhan Weiyang said, “But I want to watch you do it.”

Pei Qing didn’t say anything else. He poured the beaten egg liquid into the pot and stir-fried it until it was cooked, then poured in the ham sausage and rice. When it was almost done, he sprinkled in a handful of chopped green onion and stir-fried evenly.

Zhan Weiyang said, “It looks delicious.”

Pei Qing took the rice out of the pot, then took out the fried pork with peppers from the refrigerator, poured it into the pot to heat, and finally brought it to the dining table for Zhan Weiyang to sit down and eat.

Zhan Weiyang followed Pei Qing from the kitchen into the dining room. He sat down at the dining table, reached out and took the chopsticks Pei Qing handed him, and lowered his head to take a big bite of the rice.

He was really hungry, and he felt that Pei Qing’s bowl of egg-fried rice was the best egg-fried rice he had ever tasted. It was much more delicious than Auntie Luo’s. Of course, he would never tell Auntie Luo these things.

Zhan Weiyang ate quickly and hurriedly. After finishing the meal, he ran into the kitchen with an empty bowl and saw that Pei Qing had cleared the chopping board and washed the pot.

When Pei Qing was about to reach out to take the bowl and wash it, Zhan Weiyang leaned aside and said hurriedly, “I’ll wash it.”

He was very insistent. After Pei Qing got out of the way, he walked to the sink, washed the dishes and chopsticks, shaking off the water and putting them in the draining tray to dry.

Zhan Weiyang came out of the kitchen and saw Pei Qing walking towards the stairs. He hurried to the sofa, grabbed one of his school bag straps, and chased Pei Qing towards the stairs.

His school bag dragged on the floor, bumping against the stairs one by one as his feet hit the stairs, he ran up and grabbed the hem of Pei Qing’s clothes. When Pei Qing turned around, he leaned close to Pei Qing and whispered in his ear, “Your egg fried rice is the best I have ever tasted.” He was thinking just now while he was eating, although he couldn’t tell Auntie Luo, he could tell Pei Qing, and he must tell Pei Qing.

Pei Qing smiled, bent down close to his ear, and asked in a low voice, “Why whisper it?”

Zhan Weiyang’s ears were itchy. He raised his hand and scratched it, and it soon turned red. He said, “Can’t let Auntie Luo hear it.”

Pei Qing nodded and said softly, “I understand.”

Zhan Weiyang still held him tightly, “Don’t tell Auntie Luo.”

Pei Qing smiled and looked at Zhan Weiyang without saying anything.

Zhan Weiyang suddenly became anxious, and he said in a sincere tone, “Auntie Luo will be sad.”

Pei Qing said: “If you call me gege, I won’t tell Auntie Luo.”

Zhan Weiyang said without thinking, “Gege!” He felt that it was not sincere enough, so he added, “Please.”

       Pei Qing said, “Well—okay.”

Chapter 11

During class, Zhan Weiyang buried his head and took a pen to write in a notebook.

As soon as class was over, Chen Youyou turned around, picked up his notebook and looked at it. He saw the word “plan” written in large letters at the top, followed by a list of several bullet points. Only the first point had some writing next to it, and it said: “Follow Xie Ling.”

“You want to, follow Xie Ling?” Chen Youyou found it unbelievable.

Zhan Weiyang raised his hand and put his index finger to his lips, “Shh— Keep your voice down.”

       Chen Youyou said, “When?”

Zhan Weiyang lowered his voice and said to him, “After school at noon on Saturday.”

The entire high school section of their school had to make up classes on Saturdays. The first and second year students only had half-day classes in the morning, while the third year senior students had to attend the whole day.

Zhan Weiyang planned to follow Xie Ling after school at noon on Saturday to see where he lives.

“So what, if you know?” Chen Youyou asked him, squatting in the corner of the field.

This period was a physical education class. After warm-up exercises and running two laps on the field, the teacher dismissed the groups and told everyone to move freely.

Many boys in the class were invited to play basketball together, but neither Chen Youyou nor Zhan Weiyang went.

Zhan Weiyang didn’t have many friends. In fact, he was a clean and handsome young man, easily giving people a good first impression. Many people initially approach him voluntarily, especially girls. However, once they got closer to him, those people started to feel that he was somewhat different from ordinary people and gradually distanced themselves from him.

Similarly, Chen Youyou didn’t have many friends. It was not that he didn’t like playing with boys of the same age, but he didn’t like others to imitate him in speaking, and he couldn’t stand others calling him a stutterer. When he first entered the school as a freshman in high school, Chen Youyou happened to be a deskmate with Zhan Weiyang. He didn’t pay much attention to Zhan Weiyang at first. Later, as time passed, he found that Zhan Weiyang was the only one who didn’t care about his lisping. Treating him as an ordinary friend, the two gradually became close to each other.

Zhan Weiyang could play basketball. He learned it from Zhan Weiguang when he was a child, and his skills were quite good. However, Chen Youyou had never been willing to participate in such group activities for boys in the class, so Zhan Weiyang stopped going in order to accompany him.

At this time, Zhan Weiyang squatted under the shade of a big tree, straightened his neck and looked at the basketball court. He answered Chen Youyou casually, “I don’t know. I just searched on the internet for ways to pursue someone, thinking maybe I can escort him home in the future.”

Chen Youyou rolled his eyes unobtrusively.

Zhan Weiyang naturally didn’t see it and continued, “If he gets sick, I can go visit him and bring some gifts to his parents. Maybe they will like me.”

Chen Youyou said, “You, are like a stalker.”

Zhan Weiyang sat cross-legged on the root of the big tree, with his back against the trunk, and said, “I won’t let him see me.”

After class at noon on Saturday, Zhan Weiyang dragged Chen Youyou to follow Xie Ling.

Chen Youyou didn’t want to go, “I want to go home to e-eat!”

Zhan Weiyang said, “I’ll treat you to food.”

Chen Youyou still shook his head.

       Zhan Weiyang said anxiously, “Please.”

Chen Youyou couldn’t bear to refuse anymore.

Fortunately, the teacher in the last class didn’t drag on the lesson, so as soon as the class ended, they grabbed their backpacks and rushed out of the classroom. They headed towards the direction of the first-year classrooms. In the hallway, they saw Xie Ling coming out of the classroom with a backpack on his back.

It was time for school to end, and they were surrounded by students in school uniforms. Zhan Weiyang and Chen Youyou were inconspicuous among them, and Xie Ling didn’t notice them either and walked straight towards the school’s bicycle shed.

Chen Youyou said, “He had a bike.”

Zhan Weiyang wanted to follow Xie Ling to the bike shed.

Chen Youyou pulled him and said, “Let’s g-go to the school gate first, and l-look for the shared bicycles.” The more anxious he became, the more he stuttered.

Zhan Weiyang looked at him and said, “You are so smart.”

The two of them squeezed in among the students after school and ran towards the school gate. They found two shared bicycles on the roadside. They scanned the QR code, and each occupied one. Then, they returned to the school gate and waited for Xie Ling to ride out of the school.

The sky was sunny and cloudless, a refreshing azure blue.

Zhan Weiyang and Chen Youyou were riding bicycles, one behind the other, following Xie Ling from a distance. After riding for a while, Zhan Weiyang’s back was sweating from carrying his schoolbag. He heard Chen Youyou ringing the bell from behind and moved slightly to the side. In the end, Chen Youyou passed him with a smile. He quickly rode his bike to chase her, and the two teenagers chased her back and forth, following Xie Ling as they rode toward the outskirts of the city.

They rode for almost half an hour. The tall buildings around them gradually decreased, and the streets became narrower. This was originally a factory on the outskirts of the city. Later, the city expanded, and the factories were relocated, leaving many old houses built with the factories in the past, which had not yet had the time to be renovated.

There was an intersection ahead. After Xie Ling rode through the intersection first, the traffic lights started flashing.

Chen Youyou wanted to rush over at once, but Zhan Weiyang stopped first and grabbed Chen Youyou. The traffic light on the opposite side turned red.

The two of them watched Xie Ling’s back from across the street, saw him ride his bike into an alley, and then disappeared.

Chen Youyou seemed even more restless than Zhan Weiyang. They waited until the light turned green and immediately chased him on their bikes. When they turned into the same alley, they could see the end at a glance, but there was no trace of Xie Ling at all.

Zhan Weiyang rode slowly along the alley, and at the end of the alley, he saw a gate without any signage. Inside the gate, it looked like a very old neighbourhood, and the houses in the neighbourhood were still the same kind of four-storey buildings with many families in a long corridor. Long bamboo poles protruded from the side of the corridor guardrail, covered with clothes.

They rode to the gate. Zhan Weiyang poked his head in and took a look. He saw a guard room next to the gate, and an old man was sitting at the gate watching TV.

Zhan Weiyang looked around and saw the old man suddenly turning his head to look at him and quickly retracted his head.

Chen Youyou asked him, “How is it?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “Forget it, let’s go back.”

Chen Youyou looked up at the building, stretched out his hand to push Zhan Weiyang, and pointed him upstairs.

Zhan Weiyang saw their school uniforms hanging on a bamboo pole on the third floor.

Chen Youyou said, “It’s, right here, g-go and have a look.”

Zhan Weiyang put his head through the door again and saw the old man still staring in the direction of the door. He quickly exited and said, “I’m not gonna look. Let’s go.”

Chen Youyou said, “Then, let’s go eat.”

       Zhan Weiyang nodded, “Okay.”

They rode back through the alley, which was too narrow. Zhan Weiyang rode in front, and Chen Youyou followed him.

Zhan Weiyang’s bike swayed from side to side, a little distracted. He didn’t know what to do. Even if he knew where Xie Ling lived, he still didn’t have the courage to catch up and talk to Xie Ling.

The road ahead was uneven, with a slanted small step. Previously, they had ridden down directly, and Zhan Weiyang’s buttocks were jolted heavily on the cushion. Now, with his mind blank, Zhan Weiyang attempted to ride up directly. However, the step was higher than he had imagined. The wheels slipped at the edge of the step, causing Zhan Weiyang to fall off the bike.

“Zhan Weiyang!” Chen Youyou called him in surprise, stopped his bike and jumped out.

Zhan Weiyang fell to the ground with his knees on the ground. The palms of his hands rubbed against the concrete floor, and he felt a burning sensation.

Chen Youyou walked up to him, bent down, put his hands on his knees and looked at him, “Are you okay?”

Zhan Weiyang climbed up slowly while holding on to the ground, subconsciously patting the dust on his palms and shaking his head.

At this time, a middle-aged man rode a bicycle toward the alley. When he passed by them, he rang the bell vigorously. The two people quickly backed away and watched him pass before returning to pick up the bicycle that had fallen to the ground.

Chen Youyou said, “Don’t ride anymore. Let’s go, back by my bike.”

Zhan Weiyang felt pain in his palms and knees. He looked down at his hands and found that the skin on his palms was broken, and he could even see the bright red tender flesh underneath. So he unconsciously used his fingers to rub the dust stains next to the wounds and said at the same time, “Still have to go to eat.”

Chen Youyou saw that he was lowering his head when he spoke and couldn’t help but bend down to see if Zhan Weiyang was crying. He found that Zhan Weiyang just looked a little blank and did not shed tears. He breathed a little relieved and said, “Forget it. I will, eat at home.”

Zhan Weiyang said, “But I agreed that I would treat you to dinner.”

Chen Youyou said, “I’m not hungry, you go back.”

They pushed the car out of the alley, locked it on the side of the road, and walked to the bus stop to catch the bus. It was almost one o’clock at this time, and there were not many people on the bus, but when they got on, there was not a single seat left.

Two men stood by the back door.

When he arrived at the next stop, Chen Youyou saw a person in the priority in front of him getting up and getting off. He poked Zhan Weiyang with his finger to ask him to sit down, but a tall young man standing next to them walked quickly towards the seat.

The two people followed him with their eyes until he sat down, and then they looked away and looked at each other in silence.

After a while, Chen Youyou got off the bus and went to transfer. He told Zhan Weiyang to be careful, jumped out of the bus from the back door, and waved to Zhan Weiyang from the platform, so Zhan Weiyang was left alone, staggering along with the bus as it continued on its way.

Chapter 10

“I don’t take baths,” Pei Qing said.

Zhan Weiyang looked like he was breathing a sigh of relief, and he immediately then explained, “Mainly because the bathtub isn’t big enough either.”

Pei Qing suddenly felt a little amused, but he didn’t laugh. He just asked, “Do you really like taking a bath?”

Zhan Weiyang nodded, “My brother doesn’t like me using his bathtub though.”

This was a rare opportunity. Zhan Weiguang and Zhan Pengcheng were not at home, and Pei Qing had no objection to him.

Zhan Weiyang turned back and saw that the water in the bathtub was almost full. He stood up and reached out to take off his shirt. Before taking off his pyjamas, he turned to look at Pei Qing and saw that Pei Qing had no intention of going out. So he hesitated and took off only the outer pair of shorts, leaving his underwear on.

Pei Qing still hesitated a little and said, “Weiguang sent me a WeChat message just now.”

Zhan Weiyang became nervous instantly. While looking at Pei Qing, he hesitantly raised one leg and stepped sideways towards the water.

Pei Qing said, “He said you will fall asleep if you take a bath.”

Zhan Weiyang still looked at Pei Qing. He scratched the surface of the water with the soles of his feet and finally stepped on it. He slowly stepped in with the other foot, squatted down and let the water cover his chest. He said to Pei Qing, “I won’t.”

Pei Qing was not Zhan Weiguang. He was not close enough to Zhan Weiyang to pull him up from the water directly. At the same time, he couldn’t stop him, so he said, “You go soak, I’ll watch you here.”

Zhan Weiyang suddenly smiled and said, “Thank you.” He carefully changed directions in the water, stretched out his arms and legs, lay down, rested his head on the shallow groove on the edge of the bathtub, and then exhaled a long breath.

Pei Qing walked to the bathtub and looked at him, then sat on the edge of the bathtub near his feet, a small triangular platform.

Zhan Weiyang relaxed his body and felt as if he was floating in the water, and his whole body felt relaxed. After his body relaxed, his chaotic thinking became slightly clearer.

Pei Qing didn’t talk to him but was playing with his mobile phone. He raised one leg, put the sole of his foot on the edge of the bathtub, lowered his head and sent two messages to his classmates.

Zhan Weiyang watched Pei Qing without blinking, but his mind was elsewhere. He wondered why he hadn’t done anything today and if Xie Ling still didn’t dislike him or if he would still lose points.

The hot water slowly steamed, creating a mist. Despite being very close to each other, the gazes of the two individuals became blurry.

After a while, Pei Qing noticed that the screen of his mobile phone was also covered with water mist. He gently wiped the screen with his finger, raised his head to look at Zhan Weiyang, and found that Zhan Weiyang had been looking at him.

Zhan Weiyang thought to himself that the points were deducted on the first day because he said he did not like Xie Ling and the points were deducted on the second day because Xie Ling did not accept his love letter. Maybe this deduction was not always related to Xie Ling but also had something to do with himself.

His eyes were dark and shiny and stained with water vapour.

Pei Qing felt that Zhan Weiyang looked like he was in a daze.

Zhan Weiyang thought that just now, it was deducting his points when he wanted to do nothing in the future so that he wouldn’t be deducted points; maybe it meant that he couldn’t do nothing?

Like a sudden flash of inspiration, Zhan Weiyang’s eyes shone with light. He opened his mouth slightly and whispered, “Ah!”

Then he became excited, and his heart skipped a beat. He felt that he had found the key to the problem: today’s relationship negative status enhancement was not because of Xie Ling, but because of himself. His negative thoughts led to an increased negative state.

He clasped his hands in front of his chest, so that was it!

Pei Qing looked at him expressionlessly.

After that, Zhan Weiyang closed his eyes with a contented expression.

Pei Qing’s phone vibrated. He glanced down, then turned off the screen, and continued to look up at Zhan Weiyang.

Zhan Weiyang had closed his eyes and was motionless. His body was already red from being soaked in the hot water, and his forehead and cheeks were also moist and red. He didn’t know if it was the moisture that filled the air or the sweat.

Pei Qing thought of Zhan Weiguang’s words and couldn’t help but put his feet into the water and gently touched Zhan Weiyang’s calf.

Zhan Weiyang’s legs swayed, but there was no reaction.

Pei Qing stood up, approached Zhan Weiyang’s face, squatted down outside the bathtub, reached out and patted Zhan Weiyang’s face.

Zhan Weiyang’s eyes were still closed, and his breathing was very light. Only by looking at his chest could he see the not-so-subtle rise and fall.

Pei Qing subconsciously put his hand on Zhan Weiyang’s chest as if to identify his heartbeat.

At this moment, Zhan Weiyang suddenly reached out, grabbed Pei Qing’s hand, and laughed out loud. He said, “Do I look like I’m dead?”

Pei Qing saw that his eyes were open and dark and shiny, so he said to him, “Don’t talk nonsense.”

Zhan Weiyang said with a smile, “I’ll soak in it for a while.”

Pei Qing took her hand back and said, “Don’t soak in the water until it gets cold.”

Zhan Weiyang closed his eyes and said, “I won’t.”

Pei Qing stood up slowly, took two steps back and sat back where he was. This time, he didn’t play with his phone but just looked at Zhan Weiyang.

There was a smile on Zhan Weiyang’s face at first, but then it gradually faded. His body became more relaxed in the water, and his breathing gradually became slower. After a few minutes, Pei Qing saw his body slowly sliding down.

Pei Qing walked over and patted him on the face, calling him, “Yangyang?”

       Zhan Weiyang did not respond.

Pei Qing knew that Zhan Weiyang was really asleep this time. He reached out to drain the water in the bathtub. When he saw the water surface swirling and becoming shallower, he picked up Zhan Weiyang’s bath towel hanging on the wall and covered him, then wrapped him as he lifted him out of the water.

When he exerted force on his hands, Zhan Weiyang woke up. He put his feet on the bathtub and tried to stand firm. His arms were still on Pei Qing’s shoulders. He looked at Pei Qing in confusion and said, “I slept too late yesterday.”

Pei Qing said to him, “Go back to sleep.”

Zhan Weiyang nodded, and when he was holding Pei Qing’s arm and stretching one foot out, the other foot slipped into the bathtub, and he almost fell down.

Seeing that he was still completely unconscious, Pei Qing simply wrapped him in a bath towel and carried him.

Zhan Weiyang was very thin, but after all, he was a boy of 1.74 meters tall, so he was really not light.

Pei Qing took him out of the bathtub and put him on the floor to put on his slippers.

Zhan Weiyang was a little excited and said, “Qing ge, you are so strong. You are stronger than my dad.”

In Zhan Weiyang’s memory, Zhan Pengcheng always liked to hold him no matter where he went when he was a child. Later, he switched to carrying him on his back. When Zhan Weiyang got taller and taller, Zhan Pengcheng couldn’t even carry him on his back.

Pei Qing did not respond to his words and only said, “Go back to the room and go to sleep.”

Zhan Weiyang nodded and said, “Thank you, Qing ge.”

Pei Qing felt that Zhan Weiyang was like a child. If he hadn’t felt his weight when he carried him just now, Pei Qing would have felt like he was talking to a child. Pei Qing shook his head and said, “You’re welcome.”

Zhan Weiyang walked outside, turned around when he reached the door and said happily to Pei Qing, “You are the best person I have ever met.”

Pei Qing looked at him without speaking.

Zhan Weiyang came out of the bathroom and walked briskly downstairs. He returned to his room, dried his body with a bath towel, then changed into a pair of clean underwear, and then got directly under the quilt.

He covered himself from head to toe with the quilt and couldn’t help but feel happy when he thought of Pei Qing. He didn’t even hear the voice announcing his score today, and he was already looking forward to studying with Pei Qing tomorrow night.
