Chapter 12 – Are you impotent?

“Thanks,” Gu Lizhou waved his hand, declining their good intentions. “I can’t eat spicy food. If I do, I get small red rashes on my skin.”

“Then you’re quite sensitive,” Zhong Weishi said. “This is the first time I’ve heard of someone being allergic to spicy food.”

“Maybe it’s hormonal imbalance ah,” Da Fei said with concern. “A’Wei had a terrible acne breakout recently. When he went to see a traditional Chinese doctor, they said it was a hormonal issue. How’s your bowel movement? Are you constipated? Is it dry?”

Gu Li Zhou held his head, speechless.

He shouldn’t have lied about being unable to eat spicy food just to avoid the spicy snacks!

Da Fei ate the spicy strips slowly, and the conversation shifted from constipation to discussing what men should eat for kidney deficiency, with him and Zhong Weishi chatting enthusiastically.

Gu Lizhou didn’t really want to join their conversation, but it was no use at all.

“Are you impotent?”1This literally translates to “Do you have kidney deficiency?”, but in this context, it’s commonly used as a euphemism for male sexual weakness or impotence, as the kidneys are believed to play a key role in reproductive health according to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). The question came out of nowhere.

Da Fei’s curiosity stemmed from fear, as he’d heard that men tend to develop deficiencies as they age. Among them, only Gu Lizhou could be considered “a man of a certain age.”

Seeing the fragile neighborly relationship they had built with great difficulty about to break, Zhong Weishi quickly grabbed Da Fei’s sleeve. “What kind of question is that! Even if he had kidney issues, would he tell you!”

Gu Lizhou didn’t know how many times he recited in his heart: ‘We live in a society governed by law, killing is illegal,’ ‘Neighbors should get along peacefully,’ ‘Don’t argue with fools.’ Then he took a breath and smiled, “My kidneys are just fine, thanks for your concern ah.”

“You’re welcome.” Da Fei adjusted his wig and joined the group of dancing elderly women.

His slender figure, his back indistinguishable from the male or female, swayed gracefully. His thin waist danced more precisely than anyone else’s in the square, successfully attracting the attention of both single and married men.

Zhong Weishi recorded a short video of Da Fei and sent it in the group chat.

[Huangfu]: fvck, Da Fei’s got some serious moves with those hips ah!

[Weishi]: Honestly, with that figure, he’s no less than a woman.

[Wei-ge]: I’m starting to suspect there’s a little princess living inside him.

[Huangfu]: Too much of a goddess.

[Huangfu]: Da Fei, why don’t you just start wearing women’s clothes from now on?

Zhong Weishi stared at the screen, laughing uncontrollably, and gave a thumbs-up to Qiangzi’s “goddess.”

Da Fei, fully immersed in his role, gave him a flirtatious wink.

Zhong Weishi chuckled. “I suddenly realize Da Fei has a real talent for being a woman ah.”

The square was noisy, and Gu Lizhou couldn’t hear clearly, so he moved a little closer to Zhong Weishi. “What did you just say?”

Zhong Weishi turned to him and said loudly, “I said, do you want to go up there and dance for a while? It’s good for your body and mind!”

Gu Lizhou immediately refused the suggestion. “No, no, no, no, absolutely not. I don’t know how.”

“If you can’t, just learn ah. Look at Da Fei, he’s just moving randomly.” Zhong Weishi said.

“He has a natural talent for it,” Gu Lizhou said.

“Give it a try ah!” Zhong Weishi nudged his chin. “You might have talent too! With your long arms and legs, won’t it be a shame not to dance?”

Gu Lizhou was resolute. “No way, I’d rather die than go.”

After about half an hour, the sky gradually darkened.

Even though the warm breeze still blew through the square, the crowd had noticeably thinned, and some of the elderly participants started to leave one by one.

Gu Lizhou hadn’t really expected to find Er’Gou here; he was just there for the fun of it. After finishing his milk tea and cleaning up, he asked, “Do you guys want to head back?”

“No,” Zhong Weishi’s head was still bobbing to the rhythm of the music. “You’re leaving ah?”

“Ah, it’s getting dark. Er’Gou probably won’t show up. Let’s try again tomorrow,” Gu Lizhou said.

Zhong Weishi glanced at him. “Then you go first. I’m not leaving; I’ll wait.”

“What are you still waiting for ah?” Gu Lizhou sighed, scanning the area around the square. “The crowd’s almost gone.”

“It’s not completely gone yet. You never know,” Zhong Weishi said.

“Why are you always thinking ‘you never know’?” Gu Lizhou muttered to himself, then turned to him. “Don’t you feel like you’re wasting time?”

Zhong Weishi stopped bobbing his head. “Why are you suddenly saying that?”

Gu Lizhou licked his lips and voiced his concern. “There’s a chance Er’Gou won’t show up around Fenglin Community anymore. Isn’t it pointless for you to keep waiting here? Even if we found Er’Gou and his place, what if he’s already spent all the money? You guys wouldn’t get anything out of it. Why bother with all this effort?”

They obviously don’t have any brains, skill, money or support.

There was obviously the high probability of it being fruitless. Why were these people still willing to put in time and energy?

Gu Lizhou really couldn’t figure it out.

“How would you know if you don’t try?” Zhong Weishi braced both palms on either side of him and turned his head to look at him. “Everyone has a day when they reach the end of their life. So if we already know there’s an endpoint, why do people still strive to live?”

Gu Lizhou was silent.

“Because there’s light ahead,” Zhong Weishi smiled. “Where there’s light, there’s hope. If we assume ‘Er’Gou definitely won’t show up,’ then, of course, it loses its meaning. So we have to believe ‘Er’Gou will appear.’ Even if today’s attempt fails, what does it matter? There’s always tomorrow, the day after, and the day after that… Only by making a genuine effort can people see the direction clearly.”

Only by making a genuine effort can people see the direction clearly.

Zhong Weishi’s words felt like nails being hammered into Gu Lizhou’s heart, each word striking deep.

He, too, once had a direction to strive for and had seen hope before.

But fate had played a cruel trick, causing him to lose all his glory.

For the first time, Gu Lizhou questioned his past.

Was it fate?

Or had he given up hope first?

As another song ended, the square fell quiet for a few seconds before another familiar tune started playing. This time, it wasn’t a DJ version; the melody was much softer than the previous ones.

The crowd quickly scattered like grains of sand, as men and women paired up, each holding their partner’s hand until everyone formed a large circle.

This was going to be a duo dance.

Before Gu Lizhou could think clearly, Da Fei suddenly approached them.

“Everyone has a dance partner, and I feel so embarrassed being alone. Come dance with me!” Da Fei grabbed Zhong Weishi’s wrist.

“No, no, no!” Zhong Weishi clung desperately to the tree behind him, motioning toward Gu Lizhou. “Ask him to dance with you.”

Gu Lizhou waved his hand with a cold expression, so Da Fei didn’t dare to speak to him further.

“It’s fun ah, just try it with me.”

“No, I can’t, my limbs are uncoordinated.”

“I saw you doing flips earlier, and you seemed pretty coordinated ah,” Gu Lizhou said, gloating. “Weren’t you the one who just said to give it a try?”

“Roll! I’m withdrawing now!”

Da Fei, determined, wrapped his arm around Zhong Weishi’s and pulled him backward, baring his teeth.

Such a humiliating thing, of course, he had to drag someone down with him!

The two struggled like they were playing tug-of-war, neither willing to let go.

Several men watched Da Fei, secretly feeling pity. Such a feisty and attractive girl, and she already had a boyfriend.

Gu Lizhou circled behind the tree, gripping Zhong Weishi’s fingers, prying them open little by little with force.

Their strength was evenly matched, and Zhong Weishi’s fingernails turned pale as he shouted angrily, “Gu Lizhou, you fvcking let go of me!”

Gu Lizhou pulled a thorn off a nearby iron tree.

Zhong Weishi was yanked by the collar by Da Fei. He was dragged backwards all the way into the circle, and gave Gu Lizhou a middle finger.

Gu Lizhou laughed with his eyebrows bent, as he mouthed, “I’m watching you.”

Say bye-bye to the gloom~ Let the beautiful rainbow stay~ Grab your hand, and dance wildly~ Sing out the brilliance of tomorrow~ La la la la~

Throw your worries to the Ninth Heaven2The highest of the heavens~ Let happiness and joy come your way~ Grab your hand, and dance to your heart’s content~ Dance out a bright future~ La la la la~~

Zhong Weishi danced to the melody.

His dancing style was so clear and strange that he was particularly eye-catching in the crowd, while others were dancing in pairs while holding hands, he was just twisting rice-planting songs.

His movements were so clear and outlandish that he practically stood out in the crowd. While others held hands for a partner dance, he was doing a completely different style—his hips twisting to Yangge.3A popular rural folk dance.

His lack of coordination exceeded Gu Lizhou’s expectations. If he wasn’t stepping on his own feet, he was stepping on Da Fei’s.

The two kept bumping into each other in ways that defied explanation.

The final dramatic dip move ended with Da Fei being dropped to the ground.

Gu Lizhou couldn’t remember how many years it had been since he laughed so freely; he laughed so hard he couldn’t straighten up.

His fingers gripped his phone, shaking as he managed to record a clip and shared it with Cao Zhiheng.

[Useless Yet Awake]: Spot the highlight.

[Cao Zhiheng]: Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha4I counted and it was 17 lol

[Cao Zhiheng]: Where are you at?

[Cao Zhiheng]: Who are these two idiots ah?

[Cao Zhiheng]: fvck, isn’t that 301? Hahahahahahahahaha, what is he doing, acting like he’s downed a kilo of shaojiu?5Name of a famous Tang dynasty whine, same as Baijiu

Gu Lizhou didn’t even want to waste a second replying. He held up his phone discreetly, suppressing his laughter until his belly ached.

As Zhong Weishi spun around, he happened to make eye contact with Gu Lizhou. He felt something odd about the way Gu Lizhou had his arms crossed, and then he noticed the phone tucked inside his elbow.

“Are you secretly filming me!” Zhong Weishi pointed at him. “Watch out, or I’ll sue you for violating my image rights!”

“No, how could that be.” Gu Lizhou smiled, not the slightest hint of guilt on his face.

“Then put your phone down.” Zhong Weishi was spun in place by Da Fei. “And don’t point the camera at me.”

Gu Lizhou boldly raised the phone directly at him. “With such graceful dance moves, I have to capture this for you…”

His voice suddenly cut off, and his fingers moved quickly across the screen.

He zoomed in.

Zhong Weishi, feeling embarrassed and ready to retreat, noticed the playful expression on Gu Lizhou’s face suddenly freeze.

An eyebrow was raised.

He signaled with a glance.

Zhong Weishi immediately picked up on it and turned to look behind him.

Not far away, a man crouched behind a flower bed, staring lecherously at a girl’s legs.

Chapter 10

“You just…” Chu Yunhan didn’t even know what to curse for a moment, and now the situation had completely thrown him into confusion. Chu Yichen didn’t seem to be joking; he truly intended to act against him. Fear and bewilderment made his body stiff, and he said in a panic, “Don’t… wait… I’m not gay. Agreeing to what Sheng the Fifth wants is only a stopgap measure. I didn’t do those things at all… Hng——” The hand that reached into his lower body caught him off guard. He held the fragile and sensitive part between his legs. His body shook, and he hooked his legs and kicked towards the man. The other man seemed to have anticipated his move, and the hand holding his genitals squeezed tightly, making him scream in pain.

“Be honest if you’re afraid of pain.” Chu Yichen grabbed his right ankle and tied it to the end of the bed with a tie. Chu Yunhan’s face turned pale, “Do you think that a brotherly relationship doesn’t count when you say it doesn’t? Do you know that doing this is incest? If the Uncles know, they will never forgive you!”

“It doesn’t matter.” The man propped himself up with one hand, while the other lifted Chu Yunhan’s chin, pressing the naked, warm body beneath him. He kissed him again, this time gripping his chin tightly, giving him no chance to bite. Chu Yunhan struggled, muffled sounds escaping him, but only his left leg could barely move under the weight pressing him down.

As the saying goes, one wrong step leads to every step being wrong.

At first, he did not expect that Chu Yichen would actually take action. What happened later was beyond the scope of his thinking. At this moment, he had been completely restrained and had no ability to resist at all.

Their lips and tongues were intertwined, and the man was wreaking havoc in his mouth as if trying to take away all his breath.

It was different from when he kissed Sheng the Fifth. Although he was still passively enduring it, the powerful aggression and overwhelming pressure from Chu Yichen filled him with fear. This fear, intertwined with the anxiety and humiliation of losing his freedom, became even more intense. What shattered him further was the painfully clear realisation that the person intertwining tongues with him was his own cousin. Shame and resistance exploded within him, causing his whole body to tremble.

Chu Yichen slowly pulled out of his mouth after enjoying the kiss and then kissed the side of Chu Yunhan’s neck with his lips, sucking and biting his skin as if trying to cover the mark left by Sheng the fifth, lingering on every spot. The hand that clamped the jaw also reached down to his lower body, playing with the dormant sexual organ between his legs, kneading and stroking it, teasing it to the fullest.

“Chu Yichen, you really make me feel sick.” The person who was suppressed glared at the other person with red eyes and said coldly, “What? Do you feel good about touching me? You haven’t had a woman by your side for so many years, right? Because you can’t be hard on women, can you find pleasure only by touching men? I heard that your two fathers often play sadistic games at home. You are really a good son raised by them. Even this abnormal behaviour is exactly the same… Ah——” The suddenly rising cry of pain was because the man’s balls was pinched tightly, and the pain was heart-piercing.

“I warned you, don’t try to provoke me.” Chu Yichen’s fingers continued to tease his c0ck, and his nails scratched lightly at the crown. The successive stimulations made him tremble, and a feeling gradually surged between his legs. There was a wave of heat. He reacted to being played with like this, which made Chu Yunhan almost go crazy with shame. His whole face was hot, and he had no sense left in his mind. He said indiscriminately, “I’m warning you, Sir! Who do you think you are?! Even if I want to be fvcked by a man, I won’t look for you! You make me sick to my stomach. Sheng the fifth kisses me better than you do!”

The man’s movements paused slightly. A cold dark light flashed in his black eyes, and a sneer appeared on his lips, “Since I made you feel sick, let’s find another way.” After that, he let go of him and started from there. He took out some gadgets from the box placed next to the bed. Chu Yunhan knew that what he just said had completely pissed him off, and he felt a little scared. When he saw those things clearly, he was even more shocked, “You…don’t touch me with these things…”

Chu Yichen held Chu Yunhan’s semi-soft c0ck, took the hairpin-like instrument, put one end of the hose against the crown, and said lightly, “I’m truly failing in my duty if you’re still thinking about other men while on my bed.”

“fvck off! Go away… Get it away!” Chu Yunhan shouted with a pale face, but the flexible tube was inserted into the urethral opening without mercy. He instantly tensed up in pain, and even his voice changed its tone. The other party showed no mercy and slowly pushed in until the entire tube was inserted, leaving only a peach blossom shaped hairpin outside.

“Get it out…” The bound man’s body trembled and he gasped, “You pervert… Get it out of me…”

Chu Yichen ignored it, grabbed a pillow and raised Chu Yunhan’s lower abdomen, put on medical film gloves, poured some lubricant to wet his fingers, and pushed two fingers into Chu Yunhan’s back hole. The feeling of the sphincter being stretched made Chu Yunhan let out a cry. The narrow passage that had never been treated so roughly before instinctively contracted to repel the intruder. The intense discomfort and fear in his heart made him tremble all over.

Although Chu Yunhan was not gay, he had been in the circle of young men for a long time and had seen a lot. He knew what was going on between men. At this moment, he understood what the man was going to do, and he was horrified. He could no longer maintain his tough tone, “Don’t do this… You can’t do this…”

The gradually increasing number of fingers stretched the folds of the hole little by little, and the weird feeling caused by bending and twisting in the body made him uncomfortable. He kept raising his waist and abdomen to get rid of it. Such tightness obviously made the other party unhappy. Chu Yichen narrowed his eyes slightly and changed his position to press the intestinal wall as if exploring. When he touched a certain place, the person under him trembled uncontrollably. Then, those fingers were like hounds looking for a rabbit, staring at that spot and stimulating it continuously.

It should obviously be humiliating torture, but the feeling caused by the glands being squeezed was so clear, numb and sour, and the surging heat gathered in the lower body, constantly stirring. When the first uncontrollable nasal sound escaped, Chu Yunhan’s eyes filled with shame and he shouted, “Get away! Hng-huh… you are crazy… Chu Yichen, you can’t do this to me…”

“What am I supposed to do to you?” The man looked at him condescendingly, his eyes slightly cold, “Since childhood, anything you liked, I willingly gave up; any wish of yours, I tried my best to fulfil; when you made mistakes, I gladly took the blame for you; when you neglected your work and acted recklessly, I let you do as you pleased, allowing you to live grandly as the eldest young master of the Chu family. But how do you treat me in return?” Chu Yichen withdrew his fingers and placed a thick di-do dipped in lubricant against the somewhat reddened hole that had been ravaged, “I’ve been wondering if it’s because of all this leniency I’ve shown you that you feel like you can be forgiven no matter what you do to me, and that’s why you’ve been picking on my bottom line over and over again.”

“I was wrong… I was really wrong. I will never challenge you again, really…” His eyes were full of panic, and he hurriedly admitted his mistake.

“It’s too late.” Chu Yichen inserted the di-do without mercy.

The high-pitched screams had a desolate trembling sound. Chu Yunhan’s body stood up like a fish as it rejected the intrusion of foreign objects. He then collapsed on the bed and kept breathing hard. Deep marks were left on the struggling wrist. The sphincter was stretched to the limit in an instant, and just one-third of the way in made him tremble with pain. He gasped and begged, “Don’t… don’t…” However, the other party showed no mercy, and the entire di-do was completely pushed in. Chu Yunhan felt his vision go black, and the pain in his back hole was so painful that he almost lost consciousness. The second half of his cry for mercy was already hoarse.

However, the nightmare had just begun.

The switch on the remote control was pressed. The di-do buried deep inside Chu Yunhan’s body twisted and vibrated wildly. The initial pain caused him to let out a short wail, but every time the swirling bumps on the pole squeezed the glands, they brought an undeniable stimulation. These pleasures drowned out the pain little by little, and the tingling heat that gradually developed gathered in his lower abdomen, making the front end of his genitals stand straight up. He bit his lip, trying to suppress those shameful moans, but when Chu Yichen pressed the vibrating egg against his c0ck, he couldn’t help crying out. The double stimulation before and after made him completely engulfed by the wave of desire, but the only way out was tightly sealed by the tube, and he could only keep the surges in his body.

Chu Yunhan struggled in vain, and the red marks on his wrists and ankles were getting deeper and deeper from the straps. “Stop… I can’t bear it anymore… Stop…” Tears fell from the corners of his eyes. He couldn’t bear the torture and begged intermittently.

“You’re so hard, do you want to cum?” The man fiddled with the flower stuck at the top. For a sensitive organ like the urethra, every tiny movement would be magnified countless times. Chu Yunhan was trembling and panting in his hands, his eyes misty.

“Beg me.” Chu Yichen looked at him calmly.

After hearing those two words clearly, Chu Yunhan’s eyes were bloodshot, and he gritted his teeth and shouted angrily, “fvck off!”

The man twitched the corners of his lips and adjusted the remote control in his hand to a higher level.

“Ahhng—” The desire was overwhelming, and the more intense stimulation caused the person who was bound on the bed to instinctively raise his neck and arch his body to ejaculate, but nothing came out at all. The accumulated pleasure was completely sealed in the body, which was tantamount to the most painful torture. He finally collapsed and cried loudly, “Kill me! Chu Yichen, kill me! Uh-hngh…”

“Sometimes, seeking death isn’t an easy task.” The man didn’t even look at him as he sat down on the sofa, flipping through the report in his hand. “The night is long; you have plenty of time to slowly experience the pleasure you desire.”

Chapter 32 – I must find that man and castrate him!

Chapter 32 – I must find that man and castrate him!

Zhao Qi was becoming increasingly dazed, his mind feeling like it was burning with something, thick smoke billowing, crackling sounds echoing. His vision gradually blurred, and the sounds around him seemed to come from another dimension, like a breeze passing by. He clearly heard and understood what others were saying, but the next moment, he forgot everything.

In this strange sensation, his sense of touch and smell became sharper.

He felt himself being carried horizontally. The person carrying him had a familiar and pleasant scent of fragrant grass. They walked steadily without any signs of strain. However, Zhao Qi felt extremely uncomfortable, though he couldn’t pinpoint why. His throat was dry, he was hot and thirsty, and the new dragon robe he was wearing seemed too tight, sticking to his skin and making it hard for him to breathe.

“Don’t carry me.”

The person lowered their head, “Hmm?”

Zhao Qi struggled to express his thoughts, “Don’t carry me, carry me on your back.” Perhaps a change in position would make him feel better.

The person chuckled softly, “Alright, let’s switch to carrying you on my back.”

Then Zhao Qi was lifted onto their back. The person’s back was broad, and Zhao Qi wrapped his arms around their neck. With his upper body upright, his breathing difficulties eased somewhat. He felt much better, closed his eyes, and rested his cheek on the person’s shoulder.

“Is His Majesty returning to the Haiyan Palace?”

Zhao Qi frowned, vaguely remembering that he had promised someone to stay in Yonghua Palace tonight. “Yonghua Palace,” he murmured, “I want to go to Yonghua Palace.” After speaking, the last string of clarity in his mind snapped.

When he woke up again, Zhao Qi found himself lying on a large bed. He rolled over several times but didn’t fall off. Opening his eyes in a daze, he saw nothing but a bright yellow hue. A clear thought suddenly flashed in his mind—he was lying on the dragon bed in Yonghua Palace.

But Zhao Qi’s clarity lasted only a moment. Soon, the nameless fire inside him flared up again, more fiercely than before he fell asleep; his head was dizzy, and the world seemed to spin.

A figure walked into his vision. “Your face is so red, are you that drunk?”

The person reached out and touched Zhao Qi’s forehead. Zhao Qi shrank back as if burned, trying to avoid the touch.

“You…” The person withdrew their hand, seemingly a bit unwilling, “I’ll go find the imperial physician.”

Zhao Qi instinctively grabbed their clothes, “Don’t go! Don’t, don’t leave me alone…”

The person’s body noticeably stiffened.

Zhao Qi, struggling to remove his dragon robe, muttered weakly, “It’s so hot, why is it so hot, can we turn on the air conditioner…” He pleaded, “Help me, help me take it off.”

The person didn’t move for a long time.

Seeing no help coming, Zhao Qi had to try on his own, but after struggling for a while, he couldn’t find the buttons. When he spoke again, his voice was tinged with tears, “Call 120, call 120, I’m going to die! No, I’m going to burn to death—”

Hearing his delirious words, the person finally realized he was truly in distress. They made up their mind and reached out to him again.

Zhao Qi thought he would be relieved, but unexpectedly, the person just tugged at his dragon robe, exposing his shoulder to the air, followed by a sudden pain—

In that pain, Zhao Qi blacked out again.

After an unknown amount of time, he heard a voice with a hint of amusement, “Do you really want me to help you?”

Zhao Qi’s throat was terribly dry, and he couldn’t say a word.

“But I’ve never taken off a dragon robe,” the person said with interest, “Can Your Majesty teach me?”

“No teaching? Then I’ll have to do it slowly. After all, you brought this upon yourself, you can’t blame me.”

“Your scent, this is…”

The dragon robe was removed piece by piece, leaving only an inner garment. But Zhao Qi’s body temperature did not decrease at all. He was so uncomfortable that he rolled around on the bed until a pair of icy hands grabbed his face, almost roughly, and asked, “Look carefully, who am I?”

Zhao Qi winced from the pain, struggling weakly. He couldn’t see anything clearly, only a blurry figure, but he remembered the scent of this person and stammered, “You, you are…”

Hearing his answer, the person smiled and pressed a finger to Zhao Qi’s lips, “This time, you can’t escape.”

“Your Majesty.”

Zhao Qi opened his eyes again, his vision filled with vibrant colors, as if he were in a dream.

“Did you let him touch you just now?”

Unintentionally, Zhao Qi saw a pair of eyes—deep as a pool, revealing no emotion. He didn’t understand what the man was asking, only instinctively shook his head, then crawled to the man’s side and hugged him.

The man’s eyes narrowed slightly, showing no reaction, only his Adam’s apple bobbed gently. He pried Zhao Qi off himself, “Something happened, I must handle it, you…”

Zhao Qi lay alone on the bed.

Gone, they were all gone… What should he do!

Zhao Qi’s patience had reached its limit, but no matter how he shouted, no one answered him.

Just as Zhao Qi was about to collapse, someone returned and held him in their arms.

The last piece of clothing on his body was removed, and he heard a voice, “Your Majesty, your legs.”

Zhao Qi, in a daze, felt like he was dreaming, “Hmm?”

“Spread them.”

The moon was bright and the stars sparse, the candlelight flickering. The thin veil swayed and was pulled down by a hand, falling to the ground.

The day after the Longevity Festival was traditionally a day off from court. The nobles and ministers at the palace banquet, if they drank too much, could stay overnight in the palace. The Longevity Palace had dozens of rooms prepared for this purpose. The civil officials remained dignified, not indulging too much; the military officers, on the other hand, drank heartily, and if they got drunk, lay down wherever they pleased, impossible to be moved.

So at the time court should have been in session, the hungover ministers gradually woke up, drank the prepared hangover tea, supported each other out of the palace, chatting and laughing all the way, thoroughly enjoying themselves.

Unfortunately, the equally hungover emperor was not in such a good mood.

Hearing rustling sounds from the bed, Jiang Dehai walked over lightly, “Your Majesty?”

“…”

“Your Majesty, are you awake?”

“…”

Jiang Dehai found it strange, there was clearly some noise inside. “Your Majesty, you drank too much last night. Are you feeling unwell? Should I call the imperial physician?”

“…”

“Your Majesty?” Jiang Dehai couldn’t help but carefully pull back the bed curtains, only to see the young emperor sitting on the bed in a daze, with a cut on his slightly parted lips. The quilt had slipped off, exposing his delicate collarbones, which were covered with deep and shallow marks.

Jiang Dehai was shocked, trembling as he spoke, “Your, Your Majesty… what happened to you…”

Zhao Qi turned his head very slowly, “I think… I was… taken advantage of.” After saying this, he gasped for air and fell back onto the bed.

Jiang Dehai rushed forward to check on him, “Your Majesty, hang in there! Someone, call the imperial physician, quickly call the imperial physician!”

Although Zhao Qi hadn’t really fainted, his waist hurt so much that even a slight movement made him gasp. Apart from his waist, his whole body ached, especially in a certain unspeakable place…

Gritting his teeth, trembling all over, Zhao Qi’s face was as dark as the bottom of a pot, “Who was it!”

Jiang Dehai was heartbroken, “Your Majesty!”

“Which reckless fool dared to take advantage of me? I will… I will…” Zhao Qi couldn’t finish his sentence as a muscle in his waist was pulled, causing him to cry out in pain. He thumped his chest and lay on the bed, wailing, “You can’t treat me like this, I’m still just a child, waah… I’m tainted, waah…”

Jiang Dehai wiped his tears, “Your Majesty, please look on the bright side…”

Zhao Qi clutched the quilt and cried loudly, “How can you expect me to look on the bright side if it happened to you? It’s easy to talk when you’re not the one suffering! Go away, let me cry for a while!”

Jiang Dehai tried again, “Your Majesty, you should really let the imperial physician take a look.”

“No, no, no! If anyone finds out about this, how can I face them!” Zhao Qi sobbed and hiccupped, “Don’t stop me, I want to go out in the rain, let the rain wash away the filth on me!”

Jiang Dehai glanced out the window to see the sun shining brightly and a cloudless sky.

Zhao Qi also felt it was shameful for a grown man to cry like this. But as the saying goes, men don’t cry easily, it’s just that they haven’t been hurt deeply enough. If being violated isn’t deep enough, then what is? Getting pregnant? So, crying over this wasn’t shameful. Anyone in his position would cry, and those with less mental fortitude might even bash their heads in.

Jiang Dehai didn’t dare call the imperial physician, nor did he leave; he stayed by Zhao Qi’s side. When Zhao Qi’s crying subsided, Jiang Dehai handed him a warm cloth and suggested, “If Your Majesty doesn’t want to see the physician, how about taking a hot bath to check for any injuries?”

Zhao Qi, eyes red and face full of despair, agreed, “Fine.”

Zhao Qi never allowed anyone to assist him during his baths, and today was no exception. Jiang Dehai waited outside, feeling uneasy, and asked, “Your Majesty, are you sure you’ll be alright on your own?”

Zhao Qi mumbled an affirmation, trembling as he removed his newly donned clothes and stepped into the bath.

In fact, aside from the temporary marks that wouldn’t go away, there was nothing else on his body. That… that incredibly infuriating bastard must have cleaned him up, so when he woke, he was relatively fresh and unhurt.

Sitting in the water, Zhao Qi tried to recall the events of the previous night. His complete memory stopped at He Changzhou toasting him. After that, he could only remember fragments, like familiar scents coming and going, the dragon robe he couldn’t take off, the pain in his shoulder, and the intense pain of being… during that moment.

He looked down at his shoulder and saw a faint bite mark.

This was why he was furious but hadn’t lost all reason. He vaguely realized that what happened last night seemed to be initiated by him.

He had pulled that bastard, preventing him from leaving, asking him to help undress; when the bastard told him to assume various positions, he complied.

But! That doesn’t excuse the bastard from surviving!

Fine, even if he initiated it, couldn’t that person push him away? Knowing he was drunk and not in his right mind, why comply so obediently? Would defying an order once kill him?

Oh, defying an order was indeed a capital offense.

… What a mess. No matter who started it, anyone daring to take advantage of him would not have a good end!

Zhao Qi’s eyes turned dark and sinister, his fists clenched tightly under the water.

Unforgivable. Absolutely unforgivable. I will find that person and have them castrated!

Chapter 44 – Suyuan

Chapter 44: Suyuan

“A thousand years ago… he was your true fiancé. Please don’t forget.”

With these words echoing in the room, silence descended.

Li He: “…”

What happened?

Why aren’t Mr. Su and Zhenlong speaking?

Looking left and right, although she didn’t quite understand the words just now, she felt like there might be some gossip to hear… But just as she was puzzled, Su Muluo raised a barrier with a wave of his hand, keeping her outside.

Outside the barrier, she couldn’t hear or see anything. Li He stood still for a few seconds, dragged over a chair, and silently sat down.

Inside the barrier, Su Muluo’s icy gaze fell on the demonic spirit, saying, “How pathetic, this is just your own imagination.”

The demonic spirit pulsated silently, as if someone behind it was laughing loudly, their voice tinged with mockery: “Though you’ve lost your memories, your eyes are still the same as before, unchanged.”

“However, it’s precisely because you’ve lost your memories that you’ve forgotten our past together, right?”

“Phoenix, I wonder if you’ve dreamed of me in your dreams?”

The mention of “Phoenix” made Su Muluo feel a wave of nausea. This disgust was a physiological reaction, just like when he heard that strange man call him “Phoenix” in his dreams before.

But in those dreams, he was alone, whereas now his dragon was by his side. Su Muluo immediately turned his gaze to Long Ling and found Long Ling’s eyes dark and stormy, which confused him.

Seeing his Phoenix’s emotions fluctuate, Long Ling knew he had misunderstood and immediately soothed him by taking his hand and softly reassuring him, “Phoenix, don’t worry, I don’t believe him, I just find him disgusting.”

In Long Ling’s eyes, the man behind the demonic spirit was as ugly as a dead c0ckroach and trying to lay claim to his Phoenix was laughable and disgusting.

Listening to his low and gentle words, feeling the warmth Long Ling’s dragon brought him as their fingers intertwined, Su Muluo’s originally unsettled heart suddenly calmed down, and he smiled faintly.

Then he leaned over and gently rubbed his forehead against Long Ling’s.

The demonic spirit: “…”

Perhaps they found such intimacy stimulating, as the person behind the demonic spirit didn’t speak for several seconds. But no one responded to him.

After this silence for a while, the person realized that if this continued, he might really be ignored. His voice turned colder: “Phoenix, don’t you want to know what happened a thousand years ago?”

Even if there are individuals of the same level as Zhenlong, as long as Mr. Su and another Zhenlong are here, plus the combined strength of all the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings, they won’t fear the other side.

The only concern now is whether that person will, as Su Muluo said, stir up trouble between humans and demons again.

“I will immediately report this situation to headquarters,” Li He sighed, “No matter what, it seems that the human world may really become turbulent.”

Su Muluo nodded slightly and said, “There’s one more thing, do you know about Suyuan?”

Li He asked in surprise, “What place is that? I’ve never heard of it before.”

Su Muluo said, “It’s a place left by that person. I plan to go there and see if I can find something about my past with my dragon.”

He didn’t elaborate further, and Li He didn’t press for more details. She knew she had already received enough useful information, and further inquiries would delve into Mr. Su’s private matters.

“Mr. Su, rest assured, we will find that place for you,” Li He said, “In addition, we will send out the elite of the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings to ensure your safety.”

Su Muluo said, “No need for protection, just me and my dragon will go.”

Li He wanted to say something more, but Long Ling said lightly, “With you around, it might become a burden.”

Li He: “…”

Seems a bit too real.

Afterward, the three separated. Li He went to report everything to Zheng Hechun, while Su Muluo, after obtaining Yang Yueyue’s hospital address, sent a message to Song Nan.

Upon receiving it, Song Nan immediately replied with a series of excited gratitude, even wanting to send money to Su Muluo as thanks, but Su Muluo refused.

He and his dragon came out of the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings and found it was still early, so they went to a coffee shop first.

“It feels like we’re going to go out again after just coming back,” in the coffee shop, Su Muluo looked at the empty shop and said, “Just came back for a day, and now we’re leaving again.”

Long Ling leaned his chin on Su Muluo’s shoulder and chuckled, “It’s okay, I’ll support the Phoenix in the future.”

Su Muluo looked at him and said, “How are you going to support me?”

Long Ling said, “I’ll have money soon, and then I can buy a big beautiful house for the Phoenix.”

There was a hint of pride in his tone.

But Su Muluo just took it as a joke and smiled, “Alright, then I want a house with a small yard. I can grow flowers and plants later.”

Long Ling readily agreed and kissed Su Muluo’s cheek.

Su Muluo was silent for a moment, feeling that since they kissed, this dragon had become more and more adept at taking advantage of him.

So he patted Long Ling, saying, “I suspect that person is manipulating the Elder, and he probably has more than one force.”

The incident of the Avian Clan’s transformation can be traced back fifty years ago, which means that person might have started acting around that time.

As for Long Ling’s hatching, although the Bureau of Strange Affairs had immediately suppressed the news, the aura of a true dragon’s birth had already shaken thousands of miles around… Other monsters might still be confused, thinking it could be the tremor caused by some millennium-old monster. But as a monster contemporaneous with Su Muluo and Long Ling, that person must have sensed it as the sign of a true dragon’s birth, immediately focusing their attention on Lin City.

Unlike Su Muluo and Long Ling who lost their memories, this person, on the contrary, knew many things that these two didn’t know. From the very beginning, they came prepared.

Long Ling said, “So does the Phoenix still plan to go to the place he mentioned, Su Yuan?”

Su Muluo nodded, “We will meet eventually. I’m not afraid of him. Besides, this place always gives me a very familiar feeling… Anyway, I want to go there and take a look.”

When he heard the words “Su Yuan,” it felt like hearing about his hometown. This place naturally attracted him, likely being where the Phoenix Clan once lived.

So no matter what schemes that person might have, he would find this place and uncover his past.

Long Ling hugged his own Phoenix without objection, smiling, “Wherever the Phoenix goes, I’ll follow.”

Like Su Muluo, he also felt a strong familiarity with Su Yuan and a sense of fondness.

Su Muluo made a sound of acknowledgment, remembering there was something else he hadn’t clarified with his dragon. “By the way, about that person mentioning a marriage contract between him and me…”

Before Su Muluo could finish, Long Ling interrupted, “Phoenix doesn’t need to say anything.”

Su Muluo looked at Long Ling, who gently touched his Phoenix’s forehead and said, “I don’t believe his words. Even without past memories, I know the Phoenix has always belonged to me alone.”

With their bond, there couldn’t possibly be a third party proposing a marriage.

Therefore, that person must be lying.

Su Muluo smiled at hearing this, realizing he had been thinking the same. He gently rubbed against Long Ling’s cheek, like a sticky little bird.

Long Ling: “!”

Long Ling felt his Phoenix was incredibly adorable, immediately taking advantage and saying, “I don’t want the Phoenix to rub against me, I want the Phoenix to kiss me!”

Su Muluo: “…”

Long Ling hugged him to prevent him from leaving and said, “I want the Phoenix to kiss me!”

Su Muluo stayed silent for a few seconds before saying, “There are people outside.”

Upon hearing this, Long Ling knew his Phoenix was willing, lightly laughing, “They won’t see us here. I’ll shield the Phoenix.”

Then he adjusted their position so his back faced the door, ensuring that people passing by wouldn’t notice what the two were doing inside the shop.

Su Muluo: “…”

He remained silent again, just looking down with his eyes lowered, his long eyelashes trembling slightly as Long Ling lifted his chin and slowly leaned in.

Long Ling’s hand rested between Su Muluo’s slender waist, feeling the warmth and breath of his Phoenix in his arms, lowering his head to kiss those soft lips.

His Phoenix could only belong to him alone.

Long Ling thought to himself.

No one could take him away.

The morning light was just right, and this kiss flowed gently like a stream, tender and intoxicating… But as they kissed, Su Muluo suddenly heard a voice.

He immediately turned his head—seeing an orange cat frozen at the coffee shop’s entrance, one paw half-raised in mid-air, completely motionless.

Su Muluo: “…”

Long Ling: “…”

Qiansui: “…”

Qiansui said, “I didn’t see anything. You can continue.”

Then swiftly turned around, using all four limbs to quickly run away.

Su Muluo: “…………”

Su Muluo looked quietly at Long Ling.

Long Ling’s heart skipped a beat, fearing his Phoenix might hit him, immediately hugging him tighter and not letting go.

Su Muluo said expressionlessly, “Go away. I won’t let you hug me!”

Long Ling replied, “I won’t let go. If the Phoenix isn’t angry, then I’ll let go.”

Su Muluo tried to pat him, saying, “I’m ignoring you!”

“But the Phoenix won’t ignore me,” Long Ling laughed, “Clearly, the Phoenix enjoyed that kiss just now.”

Su Muluo: “…”

Su Muluo was almost driven mad by him, so he decided to transform back to his original form. A little Phoenix flapped its wings and flew out of Long Ling’s embrace, reaching a place he couldn’t reach.

Long Ling: “!”

He thought his Phoenix was about to fly away and immediately felt remorseful. Unexpectedly, the little Phoenix just jumped onto his head and playfully messed up his hair with its small claws.

Long Ling: “…”

After messing up his hair, the little Phoenix angrily settled down there. Despite looking a bit ruffled, it was still round and very cute.

Long Ling remained silent for a moment.

He couldn’t help but start laughing.

Little Phoenix: “Chirp chirp chirp!”

Seeing Long Ling daring to laugh, it immediately angrily chirped and pecked Long Ling a few times.

Long Ling quickly suppressed his laughter, and very seriously said, “The Phoenix is right, I was wrong.”

Then he attempted to reach out and pet this shiny little Phoenix.

Little Phoenix: “Chirp!”

No touching you!

It spread its wings threateningly.

This threatening gesture almost made Long Ling burst into laughter again. However, to avoid being pecked by the Phoenix, he struggled hard to contain his amusement and said, “Does the Phoenix want to go back?”

Seeing his Phoenix looking so angry, it probably didn’t want to change back again.

The little Phoenix turned its head away, ignoring him.

Long Ling smiled slightly, with a fierce little Phoenix on his head, they returned to the rental.

Chapter 31 – It’s my birthday

Chapter 31 – It’s my birthday

Zhao Qi returned to the Haiyan Hall, where a eunuch immediately brought warm water for him to wash his hands. Noticing that the eunuch holding the basin kept sneaking glances at him, Zhao Qi asked, “Is there something on my face?”

The young eunuch quickly lowered his eyes, “Your Majesty, your divine appearance and profound blessings are such that this servant can’t help but look a few more times to gain some fortune.”

Zhao Qi touched his chin in front of the mirror, “I do look quite divine, hahahaha, hic!”

After Zhao Qi finished washing his hands, the young eunuch withdrew with the water basin and then slipped out of Haiyan Hall when no one was looking.

Outside Mingcui Palace, a palace maid named Fu Die was pacing anxiously. When she saw the young eunuch approaching, she hurriedly greeted him like he was her savior, “Xiao Xiazi, you’re finally here!”

Xiao Xiazi whispered, “What’s going on? Why did the Emperor return to the palace unscathed?!”

Fu Die replied, “I don’t know either! My lord clearly followed your instructions and took the Chang Xiangsi that can make men pregnant, and then put the second dose into the cakes for the Emperor. But the Emperor showed no reaction. Instead, my lord fell ill upon returning, with a high fever that won’t subside, and…” She blushed, “He tried to do that with me. Luckily, I ran away quickly, or I would have been caught red-handed by the Emperor!”

Xiao Xiazi murmured, “This shouldn’t be happening…”

Fu Die said, “Whatever the case, my lord is still ill. What should we do—call the Imperial Physician?”

Xiao Xiazi exclaimed, “No way! If the Imperial Physician finds out, won’t it be obvious that the medicine was stolen by you?!”

Fu Die’s eyes welled up with tears, “Then what should we do?”

“What can we do,” Xiao Xiazi said impatiently, “Just endure it, it’ll pass.”

Fu Die sobbed, “We shouldn’t have taken such dubious medicine. Now we’re in trouble, let alone producing a dragon heir…”

Xiao Xiazi snapped, “Crying won’t solve anything! Go back and take care of your lord. I sneaked out; if I don’t return soon, it’ll arouse suspicion.”

Mingcui Palace was in turmoil all night, but it didn’t attract much attention. After all, Jiang Bao’er was just an unfavored male consort without a proper title. The entire palace was busy preparing for the Emperor’s longevity festival; who had the time to care about his life or death?

By April, the weather had completely warmed up. After lying in bed for half a month, Rong Tang’s health had visibly improved, and his face had regained some color. Although Zhao Qi didn’t visit him, he inquired about his condition daily. Upon learning that Rong Tang could now get out of bed and walk around, he ate half a bowl more of rice to celebrate.

The day before the longevity festival, the Ministry of Rites sent over a new court robe for Zhao Qi to try on, assisted by Jiang Dehai. The bright yellow dragon robe symbolized supreme nobility, with nine majestic dragons vividly embroidered. However, once Zhao Qi wore it, it only made his skin look paler without adding much effect.

Zhao Qi couldn’t help but sigh, “I still lack some imperial dignity. I think the Prime Minister’s official robe looks more imposing than my dragon robe. Maybe I should have the dragon robe made in black in the future.”

Jiang Dehai laughed, “Your Majesty, anyone can wear black, but only you can wear bright yellow.”

Zhao Qi casually remarked, “Only I can wear bright yellow, but many people can take it off.” Referring to Jiang Dehai and the other eunuchs who served him personally.

Jiang Dehai was taken aback, then responded, “Indeed, in the future, when the Emperor has three thousand beauties in the harem, it won’t be my turn to take off the dragon robe for you.”

Zhao Qi imagined returning from court to a beautiful, fair-skinned empress helping him out of his dragon robe—ah, the simple happiness of a man.

Soon, a palace maid named Jin Ning, who served Rong Tang, walked in. Zhao Qi was quite surprised to see her, “Is Rong Tang sick again?”

Jin Ning shook her head, “Your Majesty, the young master wishes to see you.”

After many days, Zhao Qi stepped into his bedchamber again. Yonghua Palace, the residence of the Emperor, had the best location and furnishings, second only to Cian Palace, making it ideal for recuperation.

Rong Tang, still dressed in snow-white robes, looked ethereal and otherworldly despite his thinner frame.

Zhao Qi looked at him, finding it hard to believe that this celestial-like figure was the same person who had been sick and vomiting blood before.

Rong Tang gazed at him quietly, eyes slightly lowered, and after a long while, he called out softly, “Your Majesty.”

Zhao Qi responded with a “hmm” and, searching for words, said, “You’ve lost weight.” He regretted it immediately. Of course, he had lost weight after being sick for so long.

Rong Tang said, “Your Majesty will turn nineteen tomorrow.”

“Yes,” Zhao Qi smiled, “I remember you are a year younger than me, so you are eighteen now.”

Rong Tang nodded slightly, “The birthday gift is on the table. Your Majesty can take it.”

Zhao Qi was stunned—Rong Tang had prepared a birthday gift for him? Really?

“Does Your Majesty not want it?”

Zhao Qi snapped back to reality, “Of course, I want it!” He quickly walked to the table and saw a long, rectangular box, “Is it a painting?”

Rong Tang nodded lightly.

Zhao Qi asked eagerly, “Did you paint it?”

Rong Tang averted his gaze, “Yes.”

As a talented scholar, Rong Tang was skilled in music, chess, calligraphy, and painting. Zhao Qi had seen his calligraphy but had never admired his paintings. He immediately wanted to open it, “What did you paint?”

Rong Tang said, “Your Majesty can look at it later.”

Zhao Qi stopped himself, smiling, “Alright.”

Zhao Qi was genuinely happy. He had thought Rong Tang wanted to argue with him but was pleasantly surprised that he spoke calmly and even gave him a gift. Although Zhao Qi still couldn’t guess Rong Tang’s thoughts or understand his change in attitude, he was content as long as Rong Tang could let go of past grudges and recover his health.

Holding the long box, Zhao Qi asked, “Do you want to attend the longevity festival banquet tomorrow? I’ve kept a seat for you.”

Rong Tang was silent for a moment, “Does Your Majesty want me to go?”

Zhao Qi replied without hesitation, “Yes.”

Rong Tang smiled faintly, “Alright.” After a pause, he added, “When will Your Majesty move back?”

“No rush,” Zhao Qi said, “We’ll talk about it when you’re fully recovered.”

Rong Tang looked at him, “Move back.”

Zhao Qi was puzzled, “Huh?”

“You said you would give me whatever I wanted.”

“I did say that. But…”

Rong Tang interrupted, “I don’t like you living in Haiyan Hall. Move back tomorrow.”

Zhao Qi didn’t understand Rong Tang’s insistence on this matter. But since he had been staying at Haiyan Hall for a while and Rong Tang was almost recovered, it made sense for him to move back to his own chamber.

“Alright.” Zhao Qi agreed readily, “Do you have anything else you want? Just say it, don’t be shy.”

Rong Tang said slowly, “No rush, there’s plenty of time.”

“Oh, then… I’ll take my leave?”

“Take care, Your Majesty.”

Holding the painting, Zhao Qi walked to the door, then turned back to Rong Tang and said, “Rong Tang, I’m really glad you could move on.”

Rong Tang remained silent. He indeed had moved on.

Whether out of guilt or strategy, as long as he could keep the person by his side, it was enough.

Back at Haiyan Hall, Zhao Qi opened Rong Tang’s gift—a painting of a blooming peach blossom, pink and white, radiant and charming, with a “Rong” character in the bottom right corner. Zhao Qi couldn’t find the words to praise it and simply said, “Awesome! Old Jiang, have this painting framed. I want to hang it on the wall!”

On the day of the longevity festival, Zhao Qi got up early. According to custom, he had to first pay respects to the Empress Dowager and then lead the royal family to the Ancestral Temple for a sacrificial ceremony.

When leaving Haiyan Hall, it was still dark. Zhao Qi glanced at the hall opposite, “Is the Prime Minister still asleep?”

Jiang Dehai replied, “Your Majesty, the Prime Minister returned to his residence last night. He will enter the palace with the civil and military officials today.”

At Cian Palace, Zhao Qi performed the grand ceremony for the Empress Dowager.

The son’s birthday is a mother’s day of suffering. With everything that had happened recently, the Empress Dowager felt deeply moved seeing Zhao Qi respectfully bowing to her. She personally helped him up, her fingers brushing over his lively eyebrows, and smiled, “Xier has really grown up.”

Zhao Qi sighed, “I wish I could grow a bit taller.” His height was really worrisome; even Jiang Bao’er was slightly taller than him.

The Empress Dowager laughed, “You’ve aged a year, but you still have a child’s heart. I must quickly find you an Empress. Once you have a prince, you’ll become more mature.”

Zhao Qi felt exasperated: Ah, here we go again.

The topic of the Empress and the prince accompanied Zhao Qi through breakfast. The royal family members within three degrees of kinship had been waiting at the front hall of the Ancestral Temple for some time. Leading them were Zhao Qi’s several uncles, and behind them was Zhao Qi’s only full brother. Zhao Tong was still the same as the last time Zhao Qi saw him—quiet, humble, and graceful, always wearing a gentle smile that endeared him to everyone.

Zhao Qi glanced at him a few more times, then turned and walked into the Ancestral Temple.

The sacrificial ceremony was lengthy and cumbersome, lasting several hours. Finally, it was over, and Zhao Qi had to summon the civil and military officials to issue a decree of general amnesty. It wasn’t until the evening banquet that he had a chance to eat something.

The banquet was held in the Wanshou Palace, where the royal family, civil and military officials celebrated together. The only person with a special status was Rong Tang, who sat with the civil officials. He wore his regular clothes, sitting alone at a table, expressionless.

The newly appointed top scholar was displeased, “Isn’t this person the emperor’s favorite? Even if he has to attend, he should be with the empress dowager and the rest of the harem. Why is he here with us?”

“The emperor must have his reasons for doing so,” the third-place scholar, Xu Qiu, said indifferently. “Speaking of which, Young Master Rong is exceptionally talented. I’ve admired him for many years. If I have the chance today, I definitely want to share a drink with him!”

Their conversation drifted into Rong Tang’s ears, but he remained unmoved. Someone approached him and asked, “May I sit here?”

Rong Tang looked up and met the person’s eyes. “Prince Huai, please go ahead.”

Sitting in the highest seat, Zhao Qi observed the scene and felt a bit unhappy. What was Prince Huai trying to do? Was he still trying to recruit Rong Tang even though Rong Tang had already expressed his unwillingness?

“Your Majesty,” Li Chisu walked forward with a wine cup in his hand, his peach blossom eyes filled with a smile, “I toast to Your Majesty’s long life and prosperity.”

In the presence of Empress Dowager Wen and others, Zhao Qi couldn’t refuse. He picked up his wine cup, gestured towards Li Chisu, and drank half of it.

After toasting, Li Chisu presented his gift, “Your Majesty, twenty years ago, my father and I hid a jar of peach blossom wine in the palace’s peach grove. I retrieved it during my last visit to the palace and now present it to Your Majesty.”

Zhao Qi found it odd. Others’ gifts were either priceless or extremely rare, but what was the significance of this aged wine?

Though Zhao Qi didn’t understand, the Empress Dowager and Xiao Shiqing, who sat beside him, understood clearly. “Twenty years ago, during the reign of Emperor Gaozu, I was just the crown princess and often saw Emperor Gaozu and the old Prince Zhaonan sparring and discussing ancient topics in the palace, closer than blood brothers,” Empress Dowager Wen explained.

Xiao Shiqing nodded, “Prince Zhaonan’s gift of this wine shows his sincerity.”

Hearing their words, Zhao Qi understood that Li Chisu was using this wine to remind them of the friendship between Emperor Gaozu and the old Prince Zhaonan.

“I am humbled,” Li Chisu said with a smile, looking at Zhao Qi, “Your Majesty, today you haven’t grown a beard, have you?”

Feigning a cough, Zhao Qi changed the subject, “Prince Zhaonan, enjoy your food and drink, and don’t stand on ceremony with me.”

Li Chisu smiled, “Of course.”

Returning to his seat, Li Chisu suddenly found a note under his plate. He looked around, quickly scanned the note’s contents, and left his seat.

Later, Empress Dowager Wen, feeling tired, returned to Cian Palace. Gradually, many others came to toast Zhao Qi, including high-ranking ministers and envoys from allied countries. Each toast required Zhao Qi to show some courtesy. After several rounds of drinks, Zhao Qi was slightly drunk and didn’t notice when Rong Tang left early. By the time He Changzhou arrived, Zhao Qi was already quite tipsy.

“Your Majesty, I toast to you as well. I hope Your Majesty will favor me more in the future?”

Under the influence of alcohol, Zhao Qi spoke freely, “What is our relationship! One cup is not enough, at least three!”

He Changzhou laughed, “That’s what Your Majesty said. Someone, bring more wine!”

“Your Majesty,” Xiao Shiqing frowned, “you cannot handle your liquor. Do not overindulge.”

“It’s fine,” Zhao Qi’s voice had softened, “It’s my birthday, why can’t I get drunk once.”

Xiao Shiqing, unwilling to argue further, directly took the wine cup from Zhao Qi’s hand, “Your Majesty is already drunk.”

“Give it back to me, the cup…”

Zhao Qi lunged forward to grab the cup, but Xiao Shiqing blocked him with one hand around his waist. “Jiang Dehai, take the emperor back to his palace.”

Suddenly, Zhao Qi shouted, “Xiao Shiqing!”

The surrounding area fell silent.

Perhaps the alcohol was too strong, Zhao Qi felt an unbearable heat throughout his body. He squinted at Xiao Shiqing for a moment, then leaned uncontrollably against him. “Prime Minister brother…”

Xiao Shiqing steadied him, “Hmm?”

“Everyone else has given me gifts, where’s yours?”

Xiao Shiqing’s eyes flickered, and his voice was as gentle as if coaxing a child, “Your gift will be given to you later.”

“Alright…” Zhao Qi obediently agreed and closed his eyes.

Jiang Dehai looked at Zhao Qi, “Is His Majesty asleep?”

Xiao Shiqing, “Yes, I’ll carry him back.”

“Prime Minister Xiao,” He Changzhou pointed below, “The palace banquet is not yet over, the officials have not finished celebrating, and both the Empress Dowager and the Emperor have left. As the head of the officials, you should stay here to preside. As for the Emperor, I can carry him back to the palace. After all, it wouldn’t be the first time I’ve done so.”

Chapter 60

After staying in the hospital for a long time, things didn’t seem as hard as it was at the beginning.

Zhan Weiyang gradually became familiar with the boy in the next bed and found that he was not so scary. He just couldn’t control his behaviour in certain situations, but he didn’t hurt others. The two would chat together from time to time while sitting on the bed. Zhan Weiyang also learned that the boy was secretly in love and had a girlfriend, but unfortunately, she didn’t dare to come to the hospital to see him.

Zhan Weiyang’s attending doctor was a young female doctor with a good personality. She took good care of Zhan Weiyang, always treated him like a child, and often joked with him.

Pei Qing and Zhan Pengcheng discussed how the two would accompany Zhan Weiyang for one night every other day. Pei Qing had to go to work during the day, and Zhan Pengcheng would come to accompany him personally if he could arrange to come over to work. Pei Qing would come over on weekends.

Zhan Pengcheng felt that he had caused a lot of trouble to Pei Qing, and he felt really bad, but there was no better way. Although it was easy to ask for someone else, he was still worried, especially at night. He was worried that Zhan Weiyang would be scared, and Zhan Pengcheng was even more reluctant to let strangers come to the hospital to accompany Zhan Weiyang to sleep.

After staying in the hospital for more than a week, perhaps because of the effect of the medicine, Zhan Weiyang’s mental state was obviously much better.

He would no longer hear the voice of the System at night, nor would he fall into fear because of it. After taking the medicine every night, he could sleep peacefully in the hospital bed.

Zhan Pengcheng often talked to the doctor about Zhan Weiyang’s condition.

The doctor said that Zhan Weiyang’s auditory hallucinations could be controlled by drugs and other treatments, but his lack of self-awareness was more problematic. For example, after continuous treatment, he might no longer hear the so-called System prompts, and he would not be afraid because he would become a tree, but it was difficult for him to understand that all this would not happen in the first place, and he could not fully understand that his thinking was pathological thinking.

“His lack of self-awareness is not caused by mental illness, but by the disorder of his brain development.”

Zhan Pengcheng asked the doctor, “Does that mean he can’t be cured?”

The doctor said, “That’s not what I mean. I’m saying that if you’re hoping to achieve complete recovery through treatment in the hospital, it might be very difficult. I think it’s more of a long-term process that may require the patience and companionship of the family.”

Zhan Pengcheng listened quietly and nodded, “I understand.”

After staying in the hospital for more than three weeks, the doctor discharged Zhan Weiyang, but he still needed to continue taking medicine and regular outpatient visits until the doctor thought he could stop taking medicine completely.

After being discharged from the hospital, Zhan Pengcheng was very hesitant. He considered whether to let Zhan Weiyang take a leave of absence this semester. He didn’t know whether it was better to let Zhan Weiyang go back to school to continue his classes or to rest quietly at home.

In the end, Zhan Weiyang wanted to go back to school. If he stayed at home, he would be alone in the second-floor room every day. Grandma and Auntie Luo were willing to accompany him, but he didn’t want to watch TV and walk with them every day, so he still wanted to go back to school.

Pei Qing told Zhan Pengcheng that if Zhan Weiyang wanted to go back, he should go back. Going to school and being with his good friends might make him feel better.

Zhan Pengcheng hesitated for a long time, talked to Zhan Weiyang again, and after calling the doctor for advice, he agreed to let Zhan Weiyang go back to school to continue his classes.

However, Zhan Weiyang would not take the final exam this semester.

He originally had poor grades and had missed nearly a month of classes. This time, even without taking the exam, he knew the results would be terrible. Zhan Pengcheng was unsure if a poor outcome on the final exams would affect Zhan Weiyang’s mental state, so he specifically went to see his homeroom teacher and the principal to request that he be excused from the exams.

Since Zhan Pengcheng went to school, the homeroom teacher also took the rare opportunity to have a long talk with him. The homeroom teacher did not focus on Zhan Weiyang’s test scores, but mainly asked Zhan Pengcheng what plans he had for Zhan Weiyang’s future.

Zhan Pengcheng had thought about this issue for a long time without finding a satisfactory answer. Now, when Zhan Weiyang’s homeroom teacher asked, he still said, “Let him go to college.” Any college would be fine. He just felt that it wouldn’t be good for Zhan Weiyang if he didn’t continue his studies, but he hadn’t yet figured out what he would do afterwards.

This was exactly the question the homeroom teacher wanted to ask, “What will he do after graduation?”

       Zhan Pengcheng did not answer.

The homeroom teacher said, “I am not asking for an answer now, but I hope you will think about it carefully. If you send him away to study at a university, I’m afraid your family won’t be at ease either.”

Zhan Pengcheng said, “I will seriously consider it. Thank you, Teacher.”

In fact, it was not that Zhan Weiyang could not go to college. If he lived at the school, he wouldn’t have any problems living on his own.

The biggest issue was that Zhan Pengcheng was still worried. He was worried about the possibility of Zhan Weiyang being bullied by his classmates if he stayed in the dormitory or if Zhan Weiyang couldn’t make friends at school. Would Zhan Weiyang’s days be difficult, and would his mental state be affected?

Zhan Pengcheng had too many things to consider. Zhan Weiyang was like a delicate, fragile porcelain piece he held in his hands. No matter how difficult the road ahead was, he had to support his child and keep moving forward without any room for negligence.

Zhan Weiyang, who returned to the class, did not notice anything unusual.

The homeroom teacher did not tell other students in the class the reason for his leave before. Everyone just thought he was not feeling well. Chen Youyou, the only one who knew, did not tell anyone.

So apart from not being able to keep up with the teacher’s progress in class, Zhan Weiyang did not feel much different from the past.

Chen Youyou avoided Zhan Weiyang’s deskmate when the class was over and asked him in a low voice, “Are you okay?”

During this period, Chen Youyou often sent messages to him, but because he stuttered, he did not call him. The two mostly chatted by typing and he did not know Zhan Weiyang’s situation too clearly.

At this time, Chen Youyou asked, and Zhan Weiyang replied, “I’m still taking medicine.”

Chen Youyou said, “How long, do you need to take it?”

       Zhan Weiyang shook his head.

Chen Youyou reached out and touched Zhan Weiyang’s forehead.

Zhan Weiyang said, “I don’t have a fever.”

Chen Youyou still looked at him with a worried look.

Zhan Weiyang said, “I’m fine now, I won’t become a fortune tree.”

“What?” Chen Youyou couldn’t keep up with his rhythm.

Zhan Weiyang said to him, “Qing ge said that the doctor had cured me. I can’t hear the sound of the System now. It should have disappeared.”

Chen Youyou felt that it would be better not to irritate him for the time being, so he went along with his words, “That’s good.” Then Chen Youyou thought about it again and felt that he should simply not talk about this topic with Zhan Weiyang. If he didn’t remind him, maybe he wouldn’t have these strange ideas.

It wasn’t until lunchtime that they ran into Xie Ling in the cafeteria.

Xie Ling took the initiative to greet Zhan Weiyang, saying, “I haven’t seen you for a long time.”

Chen Youyou looked at Zhan Weiyang with some worry.

Zhan Weiyang was actually quite calm. He nodded and said, “I was sick and hospitalised.”

Xie Ling didn’t say anything else and went to line up for food with his classmates.

Chen Youyou pulled Zhan Weiyang’s sleeve and asked, “Are you not afraid of him anymore?”

Zhan Weiyang considered this question seriously and thought of Pei Qing telling him that he had been completely cured and didn’t have to be afraid of anything in the future. So he replied to Chen Youyou, “I’m not afraid of him anymore; I’m already well.”

Chapter 43 – The Betrothed

Chapter 43: The Betrothed

The living room was quiet, and Long Ling gently nudged the phoenix in his arms.

Su Muluo remained motionless.

Seeing him pretending to be indifferent like a quail, Long Ling couldn’t help but laugh. He affectionately nuzzled against Su Muluo’s hair and said, “Alright, I’ll wait until Phoenix is willing to talk to me.”

He wasn’t in a rush. Phoenix would definitely be his, and he believed Phoenix wouldn’t make him wait too long.

Su Muluo finally lifted his head slowly upon hearing this, glanced at Long Ling, and casually turned away as if nothing happened. “Remember to leave early tomorrow,” he said.

He planned to check on Yang Yueyue at the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings and then inform Song Nan.

Upon hearing this, Long Ling immediately put on a sulky face. “Going to the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings again?”

“Yes,” Su Muluo patted his head. “So remember to get up early.”

Long Ling: “…”

Tsk.

The next morning, Su Muluo led his dragon, whose face was filled with joy, into the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings.

Liu He was still waiting at the door. Upon seeing them enter together, even holding hands, she couldn’t help but gasp and then quickly pretended to cough loudly to cover it up.

“Cough cough cough, Mr. Su, you’re here,” Liu He smiled. “Long time no see. I didn’t see you last time I visited your coffee shop. Were you out somewhere?”

Upon hearing this, Su Muluo knew she and Zheng Hechun had indeed come to visit because of his dragon transformation. “Yes, I went to other places for a few days.”

Without waiting for Liu He to ask where exactly, he changed the subject. “By the way, about the tracing mirror last time, has Headquarters blamed you?”

“Not at all!” Liu He laughed cheerfully. “Not only that, the most uncivilized group ended up getting caught by the neighboring branch instead, hahaha!”

In fact, after they handed over the feather, Headquarters sent someone to talk to Zheng Hechun, insisting they must maintain good relations with Su Muluo and Long Ling. Any requests they had must be fulfilled, and they must not offend them.

“Since Mr. Su came, our treatment and bonuses in the Lincheng branch have improved a lot!” Liu He said. “So if you need anything, please let us know. As long as you ask, we’ll do our best!”

Su Muluo said, “Is that so? Show me the most uncivilized group next year, then.”

Liu He instantly fell silent.

Su Muluo smiled and said, “Take me to see Yang Yueyue.”

Liu He immediately nodded like a pecking chicken. “Please follow me.”

Initially, she thought with so many benefits they received, they should perhaps give something back to Mr. Su materially. But Zheng Hechun stopped her, saying Mr. Su wasn’t interested in wealth. Last time, helping them resolve the fox demon incident and receiving gratitude was reasonable, but if they gave money now, it might be seen as an offense.

Therefore, all they could do was cater to Su Muluo, fulfilling all his requests. Even if he had none, they must ensure he stayed comfortably and happily in Lincheng, feeling at home at the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings.

“Oh, Mr. Su, in the message I sent you earlier, did I mention that there have been incidents of demons harming people in other cities?” Liu He asked Su Muluo and Long Ling as they walked.

“In fact, we held a meeting because of this. It hasn’t been very peaceful in the human world recently. Not only are demons harming people, but there are also cases of demons possessing humans. Of course, those malevolent demons are all unregistered residents of our Bureau. Those holding identity cards are still living peacefully, but…”

Even so, this slight change was enough to subtly alter the harmonious relationship between humans and demons that had lasted for many years.

Su Muluo was somewhat surprised. “Is it serious now?”

“Not really,” Liu He said. “After all, malevolent incidents are still few. Perhaps one or two per city. It’s just that these incidents have occurred coincidentally within this week.”

Su Muluo fell silent. A week ago… wasn’t that when they were preparing to visit the Avian Clan?

He didn’t speak, and Long Ling asked, “Have you interrogated them to see if there’s an organized force behind them?”

Liu He hesitated and didn’t dare to converse much with him. She whispered, “We’ve interrogated them, but we haven’t found the situation you mentioned yet.”

In fact, those monsters only harmed people without causing any fatalities. They even inflicted only minor injuries, so initially, the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings didn’t pay much attention, chalking it up to new demons not adjusting to human cities and getting into arguments with humans… It was only yesterday at the Headquarters meeting that they summarized the situations from various places and realized that similar conditions had appeared in many cities.

Long Ling sneered softly. “Right now, it’s only harming people. By the time you discover something is wrong, it may have already escalated to murder.”

Although his tone was calm, Liu He shrank back. “You’re right, so Headquarters has already ordered us to detain all demons who have harmed people and question them again.”

The meeting had just ended when she received a message from Su Muluo and immediately had Yang Yueyue brought over.

A few minutes later, the three arrived at where Yang Yueyue was held. She was trapped by a faint golden web and struggled fiercely on the ground.

“Why do you bring me here! Let go of me, or I’ll…”

Afterward, a string of profanities followed, causing Liu He to frown and turn to explain to Su Muluo and Long Ling beside her, “This is a tool specifically for people possessed by demons. As long as it detects demonic energy, it will light up.”

Su Muluo glanced at the glowing golden net and asked, “Will the exorcism ritual later harm her?”

“Mr. Su, rest assured,” Liu He said. “This tool only affects the demon possessing her. At most, she’ll be a bit weak. After resting for a few days, she’ll be fine.”

Su Muluo felt relieved, feeling that the Bureau of Extraordinary Beings was indeed professional in handling such matters.

Next to Yang Yueyue stood a Bureau employee holding a pale golden bell, one end of which was entangled with silk threads and the golden net. “Can we begin?”

Liu He nodded. “Let’s begin.”

As soon as she finished speaking, the employee shook the golden bell in his hand.

The bell’s sound was peculiar; each ring seemed to overlap, piercingly sharp. For a moment, the room echoed with the ear-piercing chime.

Su Muluo didn’t find it disturbing, just a bit noisy. However, to Yang Yueyue, the bell’s sound felt like thousands of steel needles stabbing into her brain. Immediately, she screamed in agony.

“Ah! Ah! It hurts so much! Help! Help!!”

The glow of the golden net intensified, and golden lights moved along the grid, forming a magical seal over Yang Yueyue. Her body convulsed violently, while something twisted and distorted formed into a spirit in midair from her facial orifices.

Liu He was astonished. “She’s actually possessed by a ghost spirit?!”

Generally, when demons tried to possess humans, they would rely on something, like the bracelet someone wears, earrings, or even a puppet toy. But there’s also a more extreme method, which is to extract one’s own soul and dive into another person’s body, using this more direct means to control them… Of course, this also brings great risks to the demon.

However, this method also has its benefits. Because the possessing demon is in a soul state, when discovered and forcibly extracted from the human body, it can easily escape… just like now.

The demon automatically split into several pieces, wriggling out through the cracks in the golden net, then quickly gathering together and darting towards the door—

Just as it was about to escape through the door crack, an agent from the Bureau of Anomalies shook a golden bell in his hand, and a deep “clang clang” resounded throughout the room. The demon seemed to be caught by an invisible hand, writhing in pain, unable to move forward even a step.

At the same time, Yang Yueyue on the ground tilted her head, losing consciousness.

“Alright, spirit dispersion successful.” The bureau agent put away the golden net, saying, “I’ll take her to the hospital first.”

Liu He nodded, saying, “Remember to erase her memory and find a suitable reason… um, just say she encountered a ghost.”

The agent agreed, picked up Yang Yueyue from the ground, and quickly walked out.

In the room, there were only Su Muluo and two others left with the demon still struggling. It was covered with layers of golden threads at some point, unable to escape no matter what.

Liu He pinched the demon and asked, “Are you going to confess here, or do you want to wait and confess after we use some methods in the interrogation room?”

The demon stuttered, “I… you…”

It spewed out a bunch of words incoherently, but none of the three in the room understood.

Liu He frowned, “Can’t you speak human?”

The demon fell silent.

After a second, its body suddenly swelled up like an inflated balloon, on the verge of exploding in the blink of an eye.

“No! It’s going to self-destruct!”

The room surged with demon energy that could explode at the slightest touch, and Liu He’s expression changed completely, completely unprepared for the demon to actually self-destruct, instinctively trying to dodge aside.

Just then, Long Ling raised his hand. With a slight gesture, the inflated demon spirit suddenly shrank, unable to release its demon energy.

Liu He watched helplessly as the spirit writhed painfully in midair, wanting to explode but unable to, wanting to escape but unable to, shuddering and silently retreating to the side.

Luckily, Mr. Su is willing to help them… oh no, luckily Mr. Su is easy to talk to.

She thought.

If it weren’t for Mr. Su, no one could control this dragon, and the world would really be in trouble.

Thinking of this, she couldn’t help but feel respect for Su Muluo.

Su Muluo: “…”

Why does her gaze suddenly look so strange?

But his attention is not on Liu He now; it’s on the demon spirit, saying, “Who are you, and what is your purpose?”

The demon spirit remained silent, and Long Ling coldly said, “Speak.”

The next moment, the entire demon spirit was crushed into shapelessness by his powerful demon energy, a heart-wrenching scream echoing in the room, and Liu He silently covered her ears.

“I’ll talk… I’ll talk!!”

Struggling to squeeze out these words amidst the screams, Long Ling stopped, and it collapsed on the table like clay. After a few seconds, it trembled and said, “I am…”

Before it could finish, the demon spirit convulsed violently again, but this time, Long Ling did not act.

Su Muluo frowned; he felt a very powerful demon energy controlling this soul, and this demon energy’s origin was unknown, likely far from where they were.

Liu He also sensed this demon energy, feeling as if Mount Tai was pressing down on her, her face suddenly changing, bones rattling… but the next moment, Su Muluo lightly patted her shoulder, isolating her from the oppressive force brought by that demon energy.

In an instant, Liu He slumped in the chair, trembling for a long time before thanking Su Muluo.

She had never felt such terrifying demon energy before. Although she had faced a true dragon before, this demon energy might not be stronger than a true dragon, but the two were fundamentally different.

After all, when she faced the true dragon, the other party did not really intend to harm her, just a demonstration, with some restraint in the demon energy. But the demon energy just now… it treated her like an ant, disregarding her completely and crushing her directly.

What’s going on? Wasn’t it just a normal demon harming incident? How did it escalate to this?

What kind of existence did they provoke?

For a moment, Liu He’s thoughts were a tangled mess, unable to articulate anything. On the other hand, Su Muluo looked at the demon spirit, his gaze gradually turning icy.

He didn’t recognize this demon energy, nor did he know who was manipulating this demon spirit behind the scenes.

But one thing was certain—the other party was definitely malevolent.

Long Ling held Su Muluo’s hand, slightly moving forward, in a stance that protected his phoenix behind him.

“Don’t hide your head and show your tail,” he said coldly. “Who are you?”

“…”

The demon spirit twisted into a blurry face in midair, its features indistinguishable, only vaguely discernible as a man.

Obviously, this man did not fully control the demon spirit; he let it retain some self-awareness, tremblingly speaking for him: “I… convey a message on behalf of the master…”

“Soon, he will return to the mortal realm, and the conflict between demons and humans will begin again…”

Long Ling sneered at this, “Are all your subordinates such insignificant little demons of a century or two? It’s really embarrassing.”

This statement was directed at the man behind the demon spirit, but he did not respond, continuing to control the demon spirit.

“The master has one more thing to say… it’s for another master…”

The demon spirit convulsed as it turned slowly towards Su Muluo.

Su Muluo’s expression was cold, as if through this demon’s soul, he was locking eyes with another person—a gaze that he intensely disliked.

“The master says, he will come to pick you up soon.”

“Although you may have forgotten him, he kindly reminds you—”

“A thousand years ago, he was your true betrothed. Please, don’t forget again.”

Su Muluo: “…”

Long Ling: “…”

Liu He: “…”

Ah, what’s wrong?

The atmosphere seems a bit off, doesn’t it?

Chapter 79 – The four treasures are out

Chapter 79 (Extra 2)

The Childbearing Fruit only existed in ancient texts.

However, it was merely briefly mentioned—its effect is to transform the dry into the fertile, allowing men to bear sons. There are no records regarding the appearance or taste of the Childbearing Fruit, so over the years, many have considered it merely a legend.

Based on this legend, theories such as the Childbearing Pill and Multiple-children Pill were developed.

Si Lan instinctively covered his abdomen, blinking his eyes non-stop as he stared at Hao Wei, as if trying to discern the truth in his words.

Seeing Hao Wei’s earnest expression, his heart sank to the bottom: “How could there be Childbearing Fruit?”

“This is a spiritual treasure nurtured by the Celestial Venerable over thousands of years,” Hao Wei lightly coughed, “He specially had someone deliver it to the Jade Clear Palace.”

Si Lan fell silent.

Why were these immortals so idle?

Why were they all staring at his stomach?

He clenched his fingers, suppressing his emotions. “Is it effective if taken beforehand or afterwards?”

“It works if taken within three days afterwards,” Hao Wei answered truthfully.

Hearing this, Si Lan immediately breathed a sigh of relief and released his grip on his fingers. “That’s good. It’s been almost two months since we last met.”

He rejoiced too soon, failing to notice that Hao Wei’s expression froze as soon as he finished speaking.

Hao Wei pursed his lips, seeing Si Lan reach out as if to feel the atmosphere, then thought better of what he was going to say.

If telling Si Lan now wouldn’t help matters and might even provoke his rage, it was better to delay it for now.

When the time comes for the truth to come out, it will already be months later…

At least during this time, peace and harmony prevailed.

When Si Lan looked up at him, Hao Wei had already composed himself, smiling at Si Lan as he explained, “There was turmoil in the Demon Realm recently. I went there to calm things down, which delayed my return to the Ninth Heaven. I intended to come for you tonight, but I didn’t expect you to return so soon.”

Si Lan felt there was something odd about his words, as if he were hiding something.

So he leaned closer to Hao Wei, sensing his aura, but detected no presence of a third person around Hao Wei.

“Did the matters in the Demon Realm delay you for so long?”

“Yeah.” Hao Wei didn’t dare to reveal the truth. If Si Lan knew he had been visiting the Seven Strings Cave every night, engaging in intercourse on average every two days, he estimated Si Lan would tear his tendons and peel his dragon skin.

“Although I’ve been away from you for so long, I’ve been thinking of you every day. It feels like I’ve been holding you in my arms every night,” Hao Wei boldly spoke sweet words.

The frost on Si Lan’s face thawed: “I’ve been focusing on cultivation during this time and didn’t miss you.”

“Yeah.” Hao Wei naturally knew how focused Si Lan was. His consciousness detached from his body, roaming beyond the Six Paths, so Hao Wei went there every night, making sure to clean up afterward, but Si Lan remained unaware.

Thinking of this, Hao Wei blushed slightly, but pretended to casually hug Si Lan from behind, hiding his guilty expression.

“But I miss you a lot.”

“In that case, think about it yourself.” Si Lan’s lips curled up, trying to suppress it but failing, he pushed away Hao Wei’s arms and returned to the sleeping hall, indicating a reconciled meaning.

Hao Wei saw his insincere look and chuckled softly. Turning around, he saw the Childbearing Fruit placed on the table, and his smile froze again.

Four fruits, four children.

Ah.

While it’s rare for men to bear children, there are precedents in the Six Realms.

Moreover, that little jade ornament is the one that really makes it happen.

Hopefully, three months later, Si Lan will discover the truth with less anger.

However, Si Lan discovered something wrong just one month later.

His lower abdomen inexplicably swelled, suspecting he had overeaten, he tried hard to curb his appetite, but the more he restrained, the more he craved strange things.

For instance, he wanted to eat the thousand-year-old brocade carp raised in the Jade Clear Palace. Every time he saw that carp, he couldn’t help but salivate.

Furthermore, he inexplicably developed a liking for eating melon seed shells recently, specifically fried melon seeds, eating only the shells and leaving the kernels. He felt like he had been possessed by a little mouse, staying up every night sneaking outside the main hall to crack melon seeds.

At first, he thought he was just indulging his appetite and didn’t think much of it, until one day he inexplicably vomited, he realized something was wrong.

He knew a little about medicine, but not much, after feeling his pulse, his expression slowly collapsed, as if unwilling to believe it, he quickly summoned a fairy doctor.

Upon learning that Si Lan had called for a fairy doctor, Hao Wei hurried to the sleeping hall.

Si Lan was lying on the chaise, and upon seeing Hao Wei, he cast only a faint glance at him, saying nothing.

Hao Wei instantly felt uneasy, as if a thorn was at his back, experiencing such discomfort for the first time in his life.

Feeling like a guilty child, he approached the chaise and saw the fairy doctor delicately examining Si Lan’s wrist, pinching a thread of silk in one hand and stroking his graying beard with the other.

The fairy doctor frowned deeply, seeming concerned about the situation.

Both Si Lan and Hao Wei held their breaths.

“The issue here isn’t an abnormal pulse, but rather a pregnancy,” the fairy doctor finally spoke.

“…” Si Lan.

Hao Wei bowed his head slightly.

The fairy doctor paused, then rotated the thread of silk before continuing, “In this belly, there are four eggs—two dragon eggs, and two…” chicken eggs.

The last two words, the fairy doctor dared not utter. He glanced at Si Lan and then shifted his gaze to Hao Wei.

Suddenly feeling his life was at risk.

This pregnancy, surrounded by controversy when he entered the Ninth Heaven, was initially rumored to involve a wild chicken. Later, somehow, the Phoenix Clan Princess Zhujia was implicated as a wild chicken.

Therefore, now… if he bluntly stated there were two chicken eggs in Si Lan’s belly, he might not be able to leave through that door alive.

Si Lan and Hao Wei, seeing the fairy doctor hesitate, both asked in unison, “And the other two?”

“Two… cough cough, Phoenix eggs.”

“…” Si Lan.

“…” Hao Wei.

These two “Phoenix eggs” were probably Zhujia’s eggs.

After dismissing the fairy doctor, an eerie atmosphere settled in.

Si Lan maintained a strained expression, sitting on the chaise without saying a word. Hao Wei dared not move, even his breathing involuntarily weakened, minimizing his presence as much as possible.

Suddenly, Si Lan raised his hand, and instinctively, Hao Wei leaned away, thinking Si Lan was about to strike him.

“…” Si Lan.

This man still had some self-awareness, knowing he had done wrong.

“Speak up. How did this child come about?” Si Lan demanded.

Hao Wei truthfully replied, “Actually, I lied to you. During this time, I’ve been visiting the Seven Strings Cave to see you.”

This was almost exactly what Si Lan had suspected.

Hao Wei hadn’t entered through the cave entrance; he must have come in through the underground stream.

Turns out, this man hadn’t been avoiding him, but… whether he should be happy or angry at this moment was suddenly unclear to Si Lan.

“Si Lan, if you’re blaming someone, blame me. Just don’t take it out on the child,” Hao Wei couldn’t help adding.

Si Lan looked up at him, eyelids drooping with a murderous gaze.

He had never seen Hao Wei so subdued, so shameless. Truly, everyone in the Ninth Heaven should witness how shameless Hao Wei could be!

Now, he even suspected that tempting, attractive Childbearing Fruit had been deliberately given to him by Hao Wei!

He was about to lose his temper when Hao Wei preempted him, “Don’t get angry, be careful of your stomach. There are four eggs inside.”

No wonder his belly had become so noticeably swollen in just one month.

Hearing this, Si Lan hugged his stomach with both hands, unaware that he had quickly adapted to and accepted the fact that he was the pregnant spouse, coldly saying, “You don’t need to be so kind-hearted. Go away, stay away from me for now. I don’t want to see you!”

This bastard knew he might be pregnant and didn’t tell him. Earlier, he saw him hungry and even encouraged him to eat more, saying he liked his plump appearance.

Hmph.

“Mm.” Haowei didn’t insist on staying. He obediently walked out upon hearing this, considerately closing the door behind him.

At this moment, he dared not provoke Si Lan at all.

Si Lan was currently proud of his eggs.

Haowei cast a spell, activating his Thousand-Mile Eyes, though he sat in the court of governance, he constantly kept an eye on Si Lan’s condition.

He saw Si Lan drive him out and sit alone on the couch, absent-mindedly touching his abdomen with one hand.

Thinking of something, Si Lan lifted his clothes, gazing at his belly with a complex expression, then prodded it with his finger.

There was no response from his belly.

But the corners of his mouth seemed to twitch, as if smiling, his expression softening slightly.

Seeing this, Haowei couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief. Fortunately, while Si Lan appeared angry on the surface, deep down he had already accepted those four eggs.

Si Lan had never imagined that one day he would personally bear children, let alone four at once.

He remembered his mother often lamenting that as a male, he couldn’t continue the family line.

But now he wanted to tell her, Mother, look at the advancement in technology—no, in magic. Men can also continue the family line. In the future, he would continue the Yu Family lineage.

Both dragon and Yujia races lay one egg per pregnancy, yet he was carrying four directly. By the fifth month, his belly had grown abnormally large, forcing him to lie in bed to nurture them.

Strangely, Yu, in this biological state, became more beautiful as the pregnancy progressed, emitting a sweeter fragrance by the day, tormenting Haowei constantly.

Out of concern, Haowei dared not stray too far from him. But when he got too close, Haowei’s own breath became erratic, almost wanting to devour him whole.

Si Lan was also quite uncomfortable. Pregnancy worsened his temper, and he also craved…

But he was too embarrassed to say it directly, so when falling asleep, he used his eyes and gestures to hint. Each time, Haowei would tighten his expression, helping him adjust his clothes carefully and reminding him gently, “Don’t catch a cold.”

“…”

Later, Haowei understood his meaning, after much hesitation, even consulting ancient texts to confirm that occasional indulgence wouldn’t have much impact.

However, halfway through, Si Lan suddenly felt pain in his belly, startling Haowei into hastily summoning a celestial physician to check on him, fearing he had overexerted and hurt Si Lan’s belly.

Haowei nervously held Si Lan’s hand, deeply regretting it. Si Lan couldn’t help but endure, but how could he endure?

He shouldn’t have indulged Si Lan like this.

Pale-faced, Si Lan held his belly. The pain was strange, as if the offspring inside were moving. Through fresh blood, he felt connected to their lives…

After a detailed consultation, the celestial physician reassured him, “Your Majesty, don’t worry. This is a normal phenomenon. It seems the four eggs in the Divine Consort’s belly are competing for territory.”

“…” Si Lan.

“…” Haowei.

Competing for territory at five months?

Haowei thought inwardly, “Truly worthy of my descendants.”

Si Lan thought inwardly, “Little rascals, once you’re out, I won’t spare you.”

After this incident, no matter how Si Lan hinted at Haowei afterwards, Haowei pretended not to understand, helping him put on clothes and tucking him in bed, no longer easily yielding to him.

Si Lan gnawed his lips in frustration.

This person, who used to fuss over him like mad, now “avoids him like a snake and scorpion.”

Heh heh.

A hypocritical man.

Since becoming pregnant, Si Lan’s emotions had become much more sensitive and unstable, maintaining this state until the day of delivery.

On that day, Si Lan and Haowei somehow got into an argument, though it was mostly Si Lan arguing by himself while Haowei remained silent, listening all along.

Seeing Si Lan with his big belly, looking huffy, Haowei found him both cute and worrying, silently casting spells to secretly stabilize Si Lan’s posture.

But since he didn’t speak, Si Lan was dissatisfied.

“Why aren’t you talking? Do you think I’m being unreasonable?”

“No.”

“If not, then why won’t you speak?” Si Lan continued incessantly. But suddenly, this time he stopped talking, straightened his back, and tightly squeezed his legs in a strange posture, as if afraid something might fall out.

Seeing this, Haowei quickly asked, “What’s wrong?”

“It seems… the egg… is coming out…”

Chapter 59

The days in the hospital were a bit difficult.

Pei Qing went home and brought them some daily necessities, then left again. Because Zhan Pengcheng was here, the two didn’t have time to say a few more words.

At around nine o’clock, the doctor came to check on the ward. Zhan Weiyang sat on the bed, hugging his knees anxiously, watching the night doctor look through his medical records and asking him a few more questions. He tried very hard to answer them carefully.

Later, the nurse gave him medicine to take. It was only ten o’clock in the evening when he finished taking the medicine and turned off the lights.

Zhan Pengcheng lay on the recliner next to Zhan Weiyang’s bed, and soon after closing his eyes, he began to snore.

Zhan Weiyang lay motionless on the bed. Through the curtain, he heard the patient in the next bed turning over restlessly.

He took advantage of the light from the window to look at Zhan Pengcheng by the bed. After finding that he was sleeping soundly, he quietly took out his mobile phone and wanted to send a message to Pei Qing.

But before he could send the message, the screen lit up by itself. Pei Qing sent him a message first, asking him, “Are you asleep?”

Zhan Weiyang covered his head with the quilt and hid inside so that the light of the phone would not disturb the sleeping Zhan Pengcheng. Then, he replied to Pei Qing, “I’m ready to sleep.”

Pei Qing said to him, “Then go to bed early, I’ll see you tomorrow.”

       Zhan Weiyang, “Okay.”

Pei Qing, “Listen to the doctor’s advice, and you can go home early.”

       Zhan Weiyang, “I’m very obedient.”

After chatting with Pei Qing, Zhan Weiyang put his phone under his pillow and prepared to sleep, but he felt the phone vibrate slightly again. This time it was Chen Youyou.

Chen Youyou knew that Zhan Weiyang had asked for leave, but he didn’t know what was going on. He asked Zhan Weiyang, “Will you come to school tomorrow?”

       Zhan Weiyang, “No.”

After waiting for a while, Chen Youyou cautiously said a few more words, “What’s wrong with you?”

Zhan Weiyang thought about it and typed silently, “They said there was something wrong with my brain.”

Chen Youyou replied quickly, “Haven’t you always had problems with your brain?” However, he unsent these words as soon as he sent them out.

Zhan Weiyang still saw them and told him, “I saw them.”

Chen Youyou seemed to have been typing for a long time, “I didn’t mean that. Don’t think too much. Try to come back to school as soon as possible.”

Zhan Weiyang said, “I’m not angry. Is there really a problem this time? I don’t know. Anyway, they said so.”

The two of them didn’t chat for long before the conversation ended.

This time, Zhan Weiyang turned off his mobile phone and put it under the pillow. He found a comfortable position on the bed and lay on his side. He first opened his eyes and sighed, then closed his eyes and concentrated on sleeping.

Before falling asleep, he heard the reminder sound of deduction again, but the sound had actually become somewhat abstract. He just didn’t know if it was because of the medicine’s influence. The feeling of panic wasn’t as strong; instead, he felt tired and quickly fell into a deep sleep.

The next morning, Zhan Weiyang was awakened by Zhan Pengcheng in his sleep. He sat on the bed in a daze and didn’t move for a long time.

Zhan Pengcheng still treated him as a child, holding a hot towel in his hand to help him wash his face. He was very rough, and Zhan Weiyang’s face was rubbed red. He dodged to the side and washed it himself.

After watching Zhan Weiyang wash his face, Zhan Pengcheng went to get breakfast.

Zhan Weiyang went to the bathroom, looked out of the corridor outside the ward, and came back to sit quietly by the bed.

After the doctor came to check on Zhan Weiyang in the morning, he arranged for him to be treated by a psychologist. He and the psychologist talked for a long time in the treatment room; after lunch and taking a nap, the department arranged group activities for patients, which could be voluntary.

After dinner, Pei Qing came over and asked Zhan Pengcheng to go back and rest. He could stay here tonight.

Zhan Pengcheng said, “How can this be possible!”

Pei Qing also bought some fruits and said to Zhan Pengcheng, “We still don’t know how many days Yangyang will have to stay in the hospital. It’s impossible for you to stay here day and night all the time.”

Zhan Pengcheng was actually a little worried. He suspended his work to accompany Zhan Weiyang, but work couldn’t be suspended like this forever. Just like Pei Qing said, it would be fine if it was only for a few days. If Zhan Weiyang couldn’t be discharged from the hospital for the time being, it would be very troublesome if it was delayed for several weeks.

Of course, this kind of thing couldn’t be handed over to Pei Qing. Pei Qing was working himself, and he was also a guest at home.

The only solution Zhan Pengcheng could think of was to hire someone, but he was afraid that Zhan Weiyang couldn’t accept it, so it was definitely not possible at the beginning. He could only consider it after Zhan Weiyang got used to it.

Pei Qing saw Zhan Pengcheng still hesitant, and said to him, “Or you can go back to rest tonight, at least take a shower and change clothes. Tomorrow is Saturday, and I don’t have to go to work. You can sleep in and rest and come later. You can come here to watch tomorrow night.”

Zhan Pengcheng still seemed a little hesitant, but Pei Qing seemed to convince him. He walked to the bed and asked Zhan Weiyang, “Dad will go back tonight. Can Qing gege stay here with you?”

Zhan Weiyang glanced at Pei Qing and nodded silently.

Zhan Pengcheng reached out to straighten his collar and asked, “Are you scared? If you are, Dad won’t go back.”

       Zhan Weiyang said, “No.”

Zhan Pengcheng nodded and said to Pei Qing, “Then I’ll go back to take a shower. Call me if you need anything.”

Pei Qing replied, “I know. Don’t worry, Uncle.”

Zhan Pengcheng left. Pei Qing gave two fruits he bought to the mother and son in the next bed. Then he sat by Zhan Weiyang’s bed and peeled apples for Zhan Weiyang.

Zhan Weiyang sat on the bed, hugging his knees and looked at Pei Qing intently.

Pei Qing asked him, “Do you feel good today?”

       Zhan Weiyang nodded.

Pei Qing asked him again, “What did you do?”

Zhan Weiyang told Pei Qing about his chat with the psychologist in the morning, what questions the doctor asked him, and what he answered. Then he talked about the afternoon activities and secretly leaned close to Pei Qing’s ear to tell him that a patient in the next ward had been transferred to the ward upstairs because of a quarrel with a nurse.

Pei Qing lowered his head, peeled off the last bit of skin on the apple, and asked, “What is the ward upstairs used for?”

Zhan Weiyang shook his head, “I don’t know either,” he said softly, bending over almost close to Pei Qing’s ear, “I heard that they lock people up and don’t allow them to walk around freely. There are people upstairs beating people.”

“Is it that scary?” Pei Qing responded, cutting off a small piece of the apple, pinching it and passing it to Zhan Weiyang’s mouth.

Zhan Weiyang bit it, chewed it slowly, and said with some concern, “I won’t be locked up upstairs, will I?”

Pei Qing said to him, “You’re not going to hit anyone, why lock you up?”

Zhan Weiyang nodded, “I won’t hit people.”

Compared to when he was in front of Zhan Pengcheng, Zhan Weiyang was much more lively and talked more when he was facing Pei Qing.

Pei Qing asked him, “Is it uncomfortable to stay here?”

Zhan Weiyang thought for a moment and said, “Not really.”

Pei Qing said, “That’s good. As long as Yangyang listens and gets treated well, we can go home soon.”

Zhan Weiyang smiled while eating an apple, with two dimples on his cheeks.

At night, Pei Qing couldn’t fall asleep as easily as Zhan Pengcheng. The recliner was too narrow, and it was almost difficult for him to turn over on it. The boy in the next bed tossed and turned and made a lot of noise. He lay on his back, with his arms under his head, staring at the ceiling with his eyes open, and couldn’t fall asleep for a while.

Zhan Weiyang lay on his side, curled up, and didn’t move at first, but then he poked his head out from the bed and secretly observed Pei Qing in the dark.

Pei Qing noticed his movements but didn’t respond.

It was Zhan Weiyang who looked carefully for a long time and found that Pei Qing’s eyes were open, and then he let out a soft ‘Oh’.

Pei Qing pulled a hand out from under his head, put his index finger to his lips, and made a very light sound, “Shhh—”

They were not the only two here, a mother and son were staying in the ward next door. Although there was a curtain between them, the sound of their conversation could still be heard.

Zhan Weiyang lay on the bed with almost his entire upper body sticking out. He was wearing a thin hospital gown with a loose collar, revealing his protruding collarbone and his entire chest under the dim moonlight.

He leaned close to Pei Qing’s ear and almost whispered, “Can’t sleep?”

Pei Qing rubbed his ear with his hand and nodded as the answer.

Zhan Weiyang said, “I want to have a midnight snack.”

Pei Qing smiled silently, still lying on his back, and looked at him, “Where can we get a midnight snack in the hospital?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “Let’s sneak out.”

Pei Qing said to him, “That won’t work. It’ll be over if the doctor catches us.”

Zhan Weiyang showed a disappointed look.

Pei Qing said, “Go to bed.”

Zhan Weiyang supported his body with one arm and suddenly stretched out his other hand, which fell on Pei Qing’s collar. He gently pulled his buttons and said, “Kiss me, and I’ll go to bed.”

Pei Qing didn’t move, smiled and hooked his finger, saying, “Come here.”

Zhan Weiyang quickly moved forward and kissed Pei Qing’s lips.

They kissed lightly, and when they separated, Pei Qing kissed his forehead, then the tip of his nose, and finally, two kisses fell on his left and right cheeks, one on each side, and he said, “Good night, baby.”

Zhan Weiyang blushed slightly and said, “Good night.”

Chapter 78 – Swallowing the childbirthing pill by mistake

Chapter 78 (Extra 1)

A small underground stream flowed through the Seven Strings Cave, the water moving slowly and reflecting a mottled light off the stone walls. On a jade platform by the stream, a man in a blue robe rested one hand behind his head and held a booklet in the other. A moonlight lamp floating in mid-air illuminated the surroundings, allowing him to clearly read the words on the booklet.

These were all the strange and interesting stories from the six realms that Quze had collected for him.

“Your Majesty, Emperor Haowei has come again.”

From outside the cave, Quze’s voice suddenly rang out.

This was the third time Quze had said such a thing today.

Si Lan’s expression hardened, his eyelids drooping. “Tell him I don’t want to see him right now. If he keeps bothering me, I’ll find a place to hide where he can’t find me.”

Quze received the order and left, but returned shortly after to report back.

“Your Majesty, Emperor Haowei said he wants to apologize to you in person and won’t bother you again after that.”

Si Lan put down the booklet in his hand. “Fine, let him come in.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Haowei’s voice echoed from outside the cave.

“Si Lan, are you… are you okay?”

“Thanks to you, I’m doing just fine,” Si Lan replied sarcastically.

The person outside seemed to freeze, then after a moment of silence, spoke again with a hint of apology, “I’m sorry. Next time, if we do it together again, I’ll make sure to get your consent first.”

Just hearing these words made Si Lan feel a tearing pain throughout his body. The experience from a few days ago made him feel as if he had endured the most brutal torture.

He couldn’t help but move his body, lifting himself from the waist down. Despite having used magic to erase the marks and soreness on his body, he still felt pain in his heart.

Previously, when they dual-cultivated in their spiritual forms, they had occasionally done it together, but it only left him feeling mentally exhausted, with no physical discomfort.

After they got married, they had never tried such a thing in their human forms until a few days ago, when Haowei, overcome by his dragon nature, put two in together in his original form, causing Si Lan considerable suffering.

Although Haowei later explained that it was due to the demonic energy from his spirit platform taking over and causing him to lose control, Si Lan was still furious. In a fit of anger, he returned to the Demon Realm, lay in the Seven Strings Cave, and announced his seclusion.

Haowei had been coming every day, three times today alone.

Si Lan blushed furiously. “Shut up. Are you… is there anyone with you?” Haowei had spoken so bluntly, and he was afraid Quze and Xie Li would hear.

Haowei looked around. “No one is here.”

Hearing this, Quze wisely retreated silently, pretending not to have heard anything.

Si Lan continued, “Go back. Don’t come over the next few days.”

“Alright. If anything happens, remember to contact me through our spiritual connection.”

Si Lan ignored this last statement, picking up the booklet again to read. He and Haowei had been bonded for six years, their days having returned to normalcy.

Perhaps it was this normalcy that led Haowei to act as he did last time.

Men, at their core, loved excitement.

Si Lan thought angrily, unable to focus on the words in the booklet. He took off his clothes and transformed into his original form, a Yujia bird, before jumping into the stream.

Most birds feared water, but he was different, enjoying the feeling of being in the water. He swam a couple of laps, feeling tired, then transformed back into human form, lying on the water’s surface with his eyes closed to rest.

His breathing gradually steadied.

At the moment his breathing steadied, a huge white dragon tail emerged from the silent stream, the silver scales overlapping like jade and frost. The tail gently moved, bringing the floating man into its embrace.

The silver tail slowly wrapped around Si Lan’s waist, bringing him closer.

Seemingly infatuated with the other’s scent, the giant dragon nuzzled Si Lan’s lips with its head. Si Lan murmured drowsily, and the dragon quickly held its breath, casting a spell to put Si Lan into a deeper sleep.

Only then did the dragon become “bold,” transforming into a human form with a smooth, muscular upper body. He held Si Lan in his arms, standing up from the water as the stream cascaded down. The silver-white light flowed between them, drying their bodies.

For the past few days, Haowei had been sneaking in through the stream while Si Lan slept.

He didn’t dare to enter through the cave entrance, as it was warded and would leave traces.

He placed Si Lan on the jade platform, looking at his sleeping face with a mix of helplessness and affection. “How can you sleep in the water every day without worrying about harming your body?”

After all, Si Lan wasn’t an aquatic creature, and sleeping in the water would let the cold seep into his bones, which wasn’t good for his injuries or his health.

Haowei reached out and held Si Lan’s hand, transferring some spiritual energy to warm his body.

He estimated that Si Lan was about to wake up, so he gently placed him back into the water and transformed into a small white dragon, swimming away.

Si Lan had intended to rest his eyes for a moment, but unexpectedly slept for a long time. Fortunately, he felt no discomfort when he woke up.

He increasingly felt that, though he wasn’t a fish, he was even more suited to living in water than a fish.

Truly, he was a lazy fish.

He held his breath, focused his mind, and sat cross-legged to meditate.

Once he started, he was completely absorbed, training for forty-nine days in the Seven Strings Cave.

After finishing his cultivation, he felt his spiritual power had grown much stronger, his internal breath steady and orderly, though still somewhat lacking compared to Haowei.

Thinking of Haowei, he suddenly remembered that since he had driven Haowei away last time, Haowei hadn’t come to see him even once.

Forty-nine days had passed…

Si Lan pushed aside the booklet, stood up, his expression not looking good. He walked to the entrance of the Seven Strings Cave, reaching out to open the door, but after some hesitation, he turned back and continued meditating on the white jade platform.

He wanted to see if Haowei would still come.

However, after cultivating for more than ten days, Haowei still hadn’t come to see him.

With a stern expression, Si Lan paced inside the cave, then suddenly thought of something and sent a message to Quze: “Quze, has there been anything unusual outside the cave recently?”

“Your Majesty, nothing unusual has been observed outside the Seven Strings Cave.”

“Oh,” Si Lan replied, dragging out the word.

Quze seemed to understand what he was asking, pausing for a moment before adding, “Your Majesty, Emperor Haowei seems to have been very busy with affairs recently and hasn’t come to the Seven Strings Cave.”

“Alright, I understand.”

Si Lan’s fingers unconsciously tapped on the white jade platform as he thought about the longest time he had been apart from Haowei since their marriage. It was during the time when Quze was undergoing his carp-to-dragon transformation.

At that time, Si Lan had guarded Quze within the formation for eleven days. When he emerged, Haowei acted as if they had been separated for eleven thousand years, meticulously checking and kissing Si Lan all over before feeling satisfied.

Thinking of this made Si Lan’s face flush slightly. But now, Haowei could endure forty-nine days without seeing him?

After his anger subsided, alarm bells rang in Si Lan’s mind. Thoughts of those melodramatic stories from novels filled his head, and he couldn’t help but frown, growing increasingly uneasy.

Something was wrong.

Haowei wasn’t that kind of person.

Even though they hadn’t known each other for ten years, Si Lan knew Haowei’s character very well. So why hadn’t Haowei come to see him?

Could he be in trouble?

With this thought, Si Lan no longer hesitated. He left the Seven Strings Cave and flew to the Heavenly Realm.

At the foot of Zhuyun Peak, Quze, who had grown into the appearance of an adult man, was holding Xie Li’s hand, looking up at the sky.

Xie Li said, “Senior Brother, I won the bet. His Majesty went back to the Heavenly Realm on his own, so you have to get me some candy.”

Quze smiled helplessly. “Alright.”

He had lost the bet.

He thought that Si Lan, being so angry, would stay in the Demon Realm for a longer time and that Emperor Haowei would personally come to bring him back. But he didn’t expect Si Lan to return on his own.

Xie Li hadn’t told Quze that although it seemed like Haowei hadn’t come, he actually did come every day. Haowei was just sneaking into the Seven Strings Cave through the stream.

Xie Li had seen the giant dragon in the stream when he was washing his candies.

The dragon was about to threaten him as usual, to turn him into a pig-headed kid, but Xie Li had wised up. “If you bring me the best candy from the Heavenly Realm every day, I won’t tell His Majesty.”

He could feel Haowei’s expression growing extremely complicated—angry, helpless, exasperated, and somewhat collapsing. It seemed unimaginable that an emperor would be threatened by a kid.

Haowei didn’t say anything, but since then, he brought Xie Li a candy every day. Then Xie Li deliberately bet with Quze to win more candies.

He really was a clever little imp.

After arriving in the Nine Heavens, Si Lan went straight to the administrative hall of the Jade Purity Palace.

He didn’t see Haowei there, only two incense burners sending up curling smoke. This meant Haowei was still in the Jade Purity Palace; otherwise, the incense wouldn’t be lit.

So Haowei wasn’t in trouble.

Si Lan’s tense expression relaxed a bit. He walked to the desk and saw a particularly beautiful plate of fruits. The fruits were shaped like dolls, appearing as translucent as jade, and exuded a faint wild fragrance, looking extremely delicious.

Si Lan picked up one of the wild fruits, curiously examining it, as he had never seen such a fruit before. He tentatively took a bite.

The fruit tasted quite good, sweet and sour.

After eating one, he was still hungry and ate another.

When Haowei walked in, Si Lan was eating his fourth wild fruit. Seeing this, Haowei’s face tensed slightly. He stepped forward quickly but hesitated to speak.

Si Lan wiped his hands, his gaze falling on Haowei, scrutinizing him from head to toe.

This person was indeed safe and sound.

It seemed he had truly forgotten about him in the Demon Realm.

After all, they had been bonded for several years and had become like an old married couple. If he didn’t return, Haowei might even forget that he had a wife in the Demon Realm.

Haowei asked, “How many of those fruits did you eat?”

Si Lan’s expression stiffened. They hadn’t seen each other for almost two months, and the first thing Haowei cared about was how many fruits he had eaten!

Could this life get any worse?

Fuming, Si Lan shouted, “Four!”

“…”

Haowei fell into a strange silence, his gaze slowly lowering to Si Lan’s abdomen.

Si Lan was infuriated by his behavior and continued shouting, “What’s wrong? Do you want me to pay for them?”

Haowei knew Si Lan had misunderstood, so he moved his lips to explain, “Si Lan, do you know what those fruits are?”

“Oh? What prestigious fruits are they? Tell me.”

“It’s a fertility fruit, also known as a child-bearing pill.”

“…”

The anger on Si Lan’s face visibly vanished.
