Chapter 141 – Return to Dark Star

Chapter 141 – Return to Dark Star

A few children stood in a row at the door.

Jian Luo’s happiness was palpable. He squatted down and picked up the children, saying, “Weren’t you supposed to be observing today?”

“We missed you, Dad.” The youngest daughter climbed into Jian Luo’s arms, finding her usual spot to snuggle in. “We want to sleep with Dad.”

Looking at the small bundle of children, Jian Luo’s heart melted a bit.

He gently raised his hand to stroke her head. “Daddy missed you too.”

Behind him, Lu Shifeng sat on the sofa like a grim reaper, coldly observing the scene of fatherly affection. This warm picture had nothing to do with him.

Jian Luo turned around, somewhat surprised. “You’re still here?”

Lu Shifeng squinted his eyes.

Jian Luo immediately sensed his displeasure. But what did that have to do with him? Could he please go be unhappy in his own room and not disturb his and the kids’ rest?

Jian Luo walked to the bedside without looking back. “Remember to close the door on your way out.”

Lu Shifeng was almost amused by his anger.

Fortunately, Lu Shifeng quickly came up with an idea. “We’re about to enter the Stan Interstellar Zone. This area is not very peaceful; there are often space pirates. Tonight might not be safe. Since you’re a light sleeper, you might not rest well. I’ll stay here with you for a while.”

Jian Luo looked at him strangely.

Then, Lu Shifeng heard him say, “Since it’s so unsafe, you should hurry back to the command center. That would make me feel more at ease. Don’t worry, I’ll have Mom and the kids with me. I won’t be lonely!”

The room fell silent for a moment.

Lu Shifeng forced a smile through gritted teeth. “Really?”

“Yeah.” Jian Luo spoke confidently and thoughtfully, “Go ahead and get busy. I can handle it!”

Lu Shifeng couldn’t smile.

Finally, he left, closing the door behind him. Jian Luo looked at the closed door and finally breathed a sigh of relief.

The little sister sat on the bed, while the other two quietly watched Jian Luo.

Jian Luo asked, “Why are you all staring at Dad?”

“Dad.” The little silver dragon’s dark eyes were as clear as a spring. “Why doesn’t Dad stay with us?”

Innocent words from a child.

But that clear and crisp voice seemed to carry an inexplicable weight, lightly stepping on Jian Luo’s heart.

Jian Luo asked, “Do you like Dad?”

The little sister nodded.

Although Lu Shifeng was always strict with them, Dad would take them hunting, bathe them, stand in front of them when there was danger, and bring them lots of strange and delicious food. Although his bedtime stories were really boring.

Jian Luo patted the dragon child’s head and softly said, “Dad will stay with you.”

He was the one who should step back.

They were of the same race.

They were meant to be together, and he was just an outsider.

Sensing Jian Luo’s low spirits, the little sister hesitated for a moment before crawling into his arms and murmuring softly, “Daddy should be with us too.”

Jian Luo paused.

Beside them, Long Aotian yawned, his head nodding sleepily. His voice was muffled and soft, “Daddy, sleepy.”

Jian Luo’s previously gathered emotions dissipated. He saw that the second child had fallen asleep and patted the remaining two. “Sleep, sleep.”

Thinking too much was useless. Just take it one step at a time.

Tears and sadness were the most useless. No matter what comes, face it bravely. After all, some things can’t be avoided by running away.

The Next Day

After days of traveling, the warship was finally returning to Dark Star.

In fact, Dark Star’s territory was quite recognizable. The universe was divided into many star systems, with numerous planets orbiting within each one. The degree of prosperity varied across dimensions. In smaller systems, it was good if even one civilization emerged among hundreds of planets.

This led to many parts of the universe being relatively desolate and quiet.

But these were small star systems. The prosperity of star systems was rated as SSR, S, A, B, C, D, F, in descending order. Earth belonged to the F system, where the entire solar system produced only one civilization. In contrast, higher-rated systems produced more civilizations.

Dark Star was the most notable example.

The Dark Star system was vast, with countless civilizations along the way. Upon entering the Dark Star system, the number of warships and flights in the universe increased, with small and large passenger ships everywhere. Almost every planet along the way was lit up. This was the bustling capital system, holding 80% of the universe’s wealth and resources.

After entering Dark Star territory, the escorting warships withdrew, and the main ship traveled faster, returning to its home ground.

Early in the morning, Secretary Jin arrived. “Luo Luo, what are you going to wear today?”

Jian Luo was puzzled. “Why should I change?”

“How can you not change? Today is a very important day!” Secretary Jin lowered her voice. “The whole nation is waiting for your return. The landing area of the warship is already packed. The emperor, ministers, and several nobles are there. The reporters and major media outlets have been waiting for a long time.”

?

A question mark appeared over Jian Luo’s head. “Is it really that exaggerated?”

“It’s not exaggerated.” Secretary Jin was amused. “You know, everyone has been waiting for these children for too long. Before this, everyone thought Dark Star was doomed. A planet without new life is just dead. Although we’ve always relied on replication technology, the end of technology is also death. Over the years, everyone had an implicit answer in their hearts, just waiting for it to be revealed.”

A row of clothes was brought in.

Secretary Jin asked Jian Luo to choose while saying, “But with the birth of the three little princes, everything is different. It shows that we are not doomed to extinction. We still have hope. You and the princes are not just miracles; you are hope, the hope of the entire world.”

A race without hope and faith is extremely terrifying.

Jian Luo chose a formal black-and-white tailcoat, matching Lu Shifeng’s military uniform. Holding the clothes, he looked at the delicate patterns and the high-quality fabric, all exuding nobility. After a moment, he finally asked, “Will you be good to the three of them?”

Secretary Jin was first stunned, then replied, “Of course.”

Jian Luo smiled without asking further and went inside to change.

In the afternoon…

At the Dark Star Warship Dock

The previously restricted area was now crowded with people. Numerous media drones filled the sky, though the central area was well protected. Below the warship, a group of people, including the young emperor, stood watching the hatch open.

Jian Luo stood at the passageway. He could step down with just one step, but he was nervous.

The dragon children snuggled in his arms, looking up at him in confusion. Only the bravest, Long Aotian, was most at ease, sitting on Lu Shifeng’s shoulder, treating the warship, symbolizing supreme honor and power, as his stool, leisurely swishing his tail.

Jian Luo stood at the passageway, pressing his lips together, his heart pounding and his movements somewhat stiff.

Lu Shifeng glanced sideways at him.

Sensing the gaze, Jian Luo turned back with a somewhat forced smile.

Lu Shifeng offered his arm, saying, “If you’re scared, hold onto my hand.”

Jian Luo wanted to retort, “I’m not scared.”

“The stairs down from the warship are very steep,” Lu Shifeng said. “They might take pictures of you. If you miss a step, your fans will have plenty of new memes.”

“…”

Fine, you win.

Jian Luo wisely took Lu Shifeng’s arm.

Lu Shifeng’s body always maintained a neutral temperature, neither too cold nor too warm. His arm was strong and firm, his upright posture like an immovable mountain, providing a great sense of security. His voice was steady, as if this was just a small outing, “There are a lot of people, but we’ll be back soon. If they bother you, just ignore them.”

Jian Luo replied, “…Okay.”

With this little chat, his nerves eased.

Gathering his courage, he stepped out of the hatch. The bright sunlight outside immediately enveloped him, bringing a gentle warmth. There was a faint, familiar fragrance in the air, unique to Dark Star.

The warship was very high, and the stairs were indeed very steep. Standing here, looking down, the crowd below was vast. A sea of people looked up at him. They seemed small from this distance, just tiny black dots in Jian Luo’s eyes, reducing the pressure somewhat.

The dragon children in his arms were curious too.

Especially Long Aotian, who let out a soft, puzzled chirp upon seeing so many people. He nuzzled Lu Shifeng’s face, as if silently asking where they were.

The delicate, fragile chirp of the young dragon, though faint, was accurately captured by those below. It was a unique sound of a newborn, a soulful bond of the beast pack to their young.

Someone in the crowd started, and then cheers erupted.

For thousands of years, Dark Star had been shrouded in the shadow of no new births. This bustling capital had turned into a stagnant pool, its inhabitants living like the walking dead. No matter how glamorous they appeared, their bodies were nearly decaying under their finery.

“We have children now!”

“These are Dark Star’s children!”

“We have hope! Dark Star will not perish!”

The thunderous cheers grew louder, wave after wave. The crowd stretched endlessly. The entire planet, or rather, this entire land, was boiling over. Even the air seemed to roar and celebrate. Their shouts were not just for cheering and celebration but seemed like a defiant cry to the world, a desperate shout against fate.

Sunlight bathed the world. At this moment, it felt like the planet was truly warming up again, truly illuminated by the universe.

Jian Luo slowly descended the stairs, relieved that he hadn’t gone deaf.

The young emperor and his entourage were waiting below, a reception of the highest order. For thousands of years, no star lord visiting Dark Star had received such a grand welcome.

Jian Luo stood firm on the ground, only to be almost knocked over by a rushing figure. The young emperor, though small in stature, moved swiftly. He wanted to throw himself into Jian Luo’s arms but was stopped by Lu Shifeng’s quicker hand.

“Ugh…”

The young emperor struggled in vain, ending up a step away.

Lu Shifeng said, “Your Majesty, there are media present. What about the dignity of a ruler?”

The young emperor pouted, “But you’re scolding me in front of the media.”

“Oh?” Lu Shifeng’s smile didn’t reach his eyes. “Then I apologize to Your Majesty.”

“…”

Forget it, I’m scared.

The young emperor looked at Luo Luo, his eyes red. “Luo Luo, you’ve suffered. It’s all my fault.”

Jian Luo hadn’t expected the young emperor to be so emotional and quickly said, “No, it’s nothing.”

Long Aotian in his arms looked at the young emperor expressionlessly, while the little sister hid behind Long Aotian, peeking out shyly.

Seeing the small figure of the dragon child, the young emperor’s eyes lit up, trembling with excitement. “Is this the little one?”

Jian Luo nodded. He wanted to bring the child out, but there were too many people around, so he smiled and said, “They’re still young and a bit shy.”

The young emperor understood. “When I first ascended to the throne and saw so many people, I almost wet my pants. Luckily, no one knew.”

Lu Shifeng remained expressionless. “Your Majesty, now everyone knows.”

“…Right.”

Jian Luo couldn’t bear to watch. Thanks to the young emperor, he wasn’t nervous at all.

The young emperor seemed to remember something. “It’s okay. We can go back soon. Everyone just came to see you and the little ones. Luo Luo, a national survey was conducted recently. The top three most popular questions were selected by public vote. Can you answer them? After that, we can go back.”

Jian Luo didn’t expect this process. But today, there were at least thousands of people present, and it didn’t seem right to just make an appearance and leave.

Thinking this, Jian Luo said, “Sure, let me see the questions.”

The young emperor, prepared, brought out the questionnaire and placed it in front of Jian Luo. “Here are the three.”

Jian Luo thought they must be about the children!

He took the panel without much pressure, recalling the children’s daily activities. However, he was stunned by the first question.

Top 1 Most Anticipated Question:

What is Jian Luo’s ideal partner like?

Top 2 Most Anticipated Question:

Is Jian Luo still single?

Top 3 Most Anticipated Question:

Do we all still have a chance?

“…”

Not a single question about the children, all rather peculiar inquiries. It was unclear how these were selected.

Seeing Jian Luo’s prolonged silence and surprised expression, Lu Shifeng had a bad feeling. “What is it?”

Jian Luo glanced at him awkwardly.

Lu Shifeng frowned and looked over. “What did they ask?”

Chapter 31 – The return spell is broken

Chapter 31

At night, Tao Yuan slept in Pei Jia’s bed. Pei Jia had removed his armor and outer robe, and was resting with his eyes closed in a chair.

The next day, when Tao Yuan woke up, he found that Pei Jia was gone. He stumbled outside, following the sounds of training, and finally arrived at the training grounds. Seeing Pei Jia training the soldiers, he let out a sigh of relief.

Pei Jia noticed Tao Yuan’s presence and saw that Tao Yuan was barefoot. His brow furrowed slightly, and he immediately approached Tao Yuan.

“Why aren’t you wearing shoes?”

Tao Yuan gestured with his hands, but Pei Jia couldn’t understand and sighed.

Seeing Tao Yuan’s delicate skin and the rough gravel on the ground, Pei Jia simply picked Tao Yuan up like a small chick and carried him back.

Si Lan, witnessing this, couldn’t help but laugh and patted Haowei’s shoulder. “Tao Yuan really looks like a little chick.”

Haowei glanced down at his own “salty chicken hands.” Clearly, he thought, the little chick was himself.

“Although this is a military camp and safer than outside, you…” Pei Jia placed Tao Yuan back in the tent and looked at his face, “still shouldn’t wander around to avoid being bullied, understand?”

Tao Yuan obediently nodded.

Seeing Tao Yuan so well-behaved, Pei Jia couldn’t help but smile and instinctively patted Tao Yuan’s head.

A bright light suddenly flashed in Tao Yuan’s eyes. He nervously clenched his fingers. Pei Jia used to like patting his head like this.

Pei Jia originally planned to leave Tao Yuan and the other performers in a village once Tao Yuan’s injuries healed, as they needed to continue their campaign north.

However, unexpectedly, the other performers agreed, but Tao Yuan did not.

Tao Yuan gestured, but Pei Jia couldn’t understand, so Tao Yuan had to write two characters on paper. Though Tao Yuan didn’t know many characters, his writing was exceptionally beautiful.

“Stay… You want to stay with me?” Pei Jia looked at him in disbelief.

Tao Yuan nodded.

“Why do you want to stay with me?”

Tao Yuan’s face suddenly turned red, his lips slightly parted. He hesitated for a moment, then lowered his head.

Seeing his expression, Pei Jia slowly began to understand. His face also turned red. “Um…”

Pei Jia was at a loss, not knowing what to say.

Sensing his reluctance, Tao Yuan looked up, his eyes red and filled with grievance.

Pei Jia was momentarily stunned, then inexplicably said, “If you want to stay in the camp, it’s not impossible, but there are no useless people by my side.”

Hearing this, Tao Yuan immediately nodded, indicating that he would become useful.

That night, after discussing official matters with his lieutenants, Pei Jia returned to his tent and saw Tao Yuan mending his clothes by the candlelight. It was the tear from the day he fought the bandit leader.

Pei Jia stood silently, watching Tao Yuan.

Noticing Pei Jia’s presence, Tao Yuan smiled, tied a knot in the thread, and presented the mended clothes to Pei Jia, as if to say, “See, I can be useful.”

Pei Jia took the clothes and softly thanked him.

Tao Yuan’s smile deepened.

Pei Jia continued reading by the light of the lamp, while Tao Yuan made soup for him, intending to stay up with him. However, Tao Yuan soon fell asleep at the table.

After finishing his book, Pei Jia looked at Tao Yuan by the faint candlelight.

A strand of hair had fallen over Tao Yuan’s face. Unable to resist, Pei Jia gently brushed it aside, then found his fingers tracing Tao Yuan’s eyebrows and eyes.

In a moment of impulse, he leaned in and placed a light kiss on Tao Yuan’s forehead.

When he looked up, he saw his lieutenant standing in the doorway, holding a stack of books.

The lieutenant, seeing this scene, quickly retreated.

Pei Jia blushed, wanting to chase after him to explain, but realizing that it would only make things worse, he decided against it.

He sighed and patted his head in frustration.

How embarrassing.

To be caught doing something like this by his lieutenant!

Si Lan tugged on Haowei’s sleeve, signaling him to follow. They followed the lieutenant’s figure to the soldiers’ tent.

These were Pei Jia’s trusted men.

The lieutenant, holding the books, hesitated before speaking, “I just saw the general kiss that little performer in his room…”

A soldier snapped a twig in his hand.

“Could it be that the general really fancies that performer?”

“It seems so. We’ve even slowed our march to help him recover.”

The group fell silent, exchanging looks.

“The general’s lifelong reputation can’t be ruined by such a person.”

“Agreed.”

They left it at that, saying no more.

Hearing this, Si Lan felt uneasy, already guessing the cause of Tao Yuan’s eventual harm.

To protect Pei Jia’s reputation, a mere performer was nothing.

But they likely hadn’t anticipated Tao Yuan’s importance to Pei Jia, which led to Pei Jia’s madness after Tao Yuan’s death.

Si Lan was lost in thought and didn’t notice the red barrier in front of them starting to crack.

Tiny fissures quickly spread across the barrier, with faint light streaming through, connecting two entirely separate worlds.

Haowei closed his eyes and said, “The barrier is compromised.”

Si Lan looked up, seeing the countless cracks.

If the red barrier disappeared, they would lose all their powers in this world, becoming ordinary mortals.

If they couldn’t repair the barrier, they would be stuck here forever.

How could this happen?

Was the barrier attacked?

Haowei tried to seal the cracks with his magic, but they only grew larger. As their forms began to break through the barrier, Si Lan grabbed Haowei and fled the camp.

If they suddenly fell into the camp, they might be captured as spies.

Just as they escaped, the barrier shattered, and they fell to the ground.

Si Lan quickly steadied himself, holding tightly to Haowei’s hand. “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine.”

Si Lan could no longer feel his cultivation, his brow furrowing in anxiety and guilt. “The barrier must have been attacked! This is my fault for dragging you into this.”

Haowei ignored Si Lan’s words, instead saying, “Your two friends may not be highly skilled, but they’re not weak either. The only one who could attack the barrier must be Da Yong.”

Si Lan had thought of this too, his face turning pale.

Who knows what was happening in the human world now…

A quarter of an hour earlier.

At Pei’s residence, in the side room.

Song Ye was guarding the barrier, arms crossed, looking at Song Cheng opposite him.

Apparently, their earlier conversation hadn’t gone well. Song Cheng remained cold, eyes closed, meditating.

Song Ye pouted, glancing around in boredom. As he got up to walk around, Song Cheng opened his eyes and coldly said, “Don’t wander off.”

Song Ye halted, grumbling softly, “Brother, why do you care so much about the master? He doesn’t have feelings for you anyway.”

Song Cheng clenched his fists, veins bulging on the back of his hands, as he tried to contain his anger.

He wished he could sew Song Ye’s mouth shut.

Even a cow’s mooing in his ear would be more pleasant than Song Ye’s chatter.

Pretending not to notice Song Cheng’s anger, Song Ye cheerfully moved closer. “Brother, did you notice? Every time our master is in trouble, that man in the veiled hat saves him. I guess he followed the master into the illusion to protect him.”

Song Cheng said nothing, turning his head slightly to avoid Song Ye’s close proximity.

Song Ye continued, “He must have feelings for the master, but we don’t know who he is.”

“You sure like meddling in others’ affairs.”

“It’s all for you, brother.”

Song Ye placed his hand on Song Cheng’s shoulder with a smile. Song Cheng’s expression changed, trying to push it off, but Song Ye held on.

“Brother, it’s been a long time since we’ve been this close. Remember when we hadn’t yet taken human form? We were always entwined like this…” Song Cheng and Song Ye were twin vines. Even before breaking through the soil, their roots were intertwined, and once above ground, their vines wrapped tightly around each other.

Later, they took human form one after another and were taken in by the former Demon Lord, Chushan Jun, as disciples.

Song Cheng’s demeanor grew increasingly cold, his eyes seemingly frosted over. “Let go.”

Song Ye’s smile gradually faded as he slowly withdrew his hand. A dark glint flickered in his eyes. He couldn’t understand why his relationship with Song Cheng was becoming so strained.

It all seemed to change on the day Master Chu Shan decided to impart his cultivation techniques to them.

He had wanted to learn the heart method, but Song Cheng took his chance.

Since then, Song Cheng seized every opportunity to train, often spending time with Master Chu Shan. Upon returning from these sessions, he became more and more distant.

Later, when Si Lan defeated Master Chu Shan, Song Cheng immediately pledged his loyalty to Si Lan. Song Ye followed suit, serving under Si Lan as well.

He noticed that Song Cheng harbored unusual feelings towards Si Lan. Whenever Si Lan appeared, Song Cheng’s eyes would follow him intently, ignoring Song Ye completely.

Filled with resentment, Song Ye sought attention in every possible way, but no matter what he said or did, Song Cheng remained indifferent.

It wasn’t until a hundred years ago, during a battle with demons, that Song Ye accidentally injured his legs and became disabled.

For the first time, Song Cheng’s usually emotionless face showed a hint of concern. His eyes reddened as he looked at Song Ye’s legs and took on the responsibility of caring for him.

Song Ye was both flattered and anxious, fearing that once his legs healed, Song Cheng would revert to his cold demeanor. So, driven by a strange impulse, he pretended to be crippled, maintaining the act for a hundred years.

During this century, his relationship with Song Cheng improved, and he experienced unprecedented happiness.

But all this shattered once Song Cheng discovered that his legs were fine.

“Brother, do you hate me that much?”

Song Cheng did not answer, slightly turning his body away.

Song Ye wanted to ask more, but suddenly, a powerful surge of black demonic energy swept in, splitting the house open.

Fortunately, Si Lan had previously set up a barrier around them, which blocked the attack and preserved the formation.

Song Cheng and Song Ye immediately drew their swords, standing guard on either side of Si Lan.

Pei Jia, holding a sword like a puppet, approached step by step, surrounded by black demonic energy. His eyes continuously emitted dark energy, and his face was marked with mottled traces, resembling some kind of totem.

Song Ye exclaimed, “Has he succumbed to the demonic path?”

“No, he is being controlled by Dayong.”

Song Ye’s expression turned grave as he looked at Song Cheng. “Is Dayong planning to destroy the formation?”

Song Cheng remained silent, his brow furrowing.

If the formation was destroyed, their lord would become a mortal, stranded in the past.

Realizing this, Song Cheng’s eyes turned resolute. Black demonic energy surged around him as he protected Si Lan. He whispered to Song Ye, “Be careful,” before launching an attack on “Pei Jia.”

“Pei Jia” dodged Song Cheng’s attack, flashing to the barrier. He raised his sword and struck, but the barrier held firm, merely shaking without damage.

Song Ye immediately cast a spell, reciting an incantation to immobilize “Pei Jia.”

Realizing he couldn’t move, “Pei Jia’s” expression turned fierce. He struggled to break free, demonic energy spreading along his arms and transforming into claws that lashed out at Song Ye.

Song Cheng swiftly cut through the black energy with his sword, positioning himself on the opposite side of “Pei Jia.” Together with Song Ye, he recited the immobilizing spell.

“Pei Jia” roared, spewing a mass of black demonic energy that transformed into a giant demon, ready to devour Song Ye.

Seeing this, Song Cheng swung his sword at the demon. Unable to harm Pei Jia’s body, he attacked the demonic energy enveloping him.

The demonic energy, wounded, quickly turned into a whip, entwining Song Cheng’s sword and lifting him into the air. In an instant, the energy engulfed Song Cheng, who had to release his sword but was still ensnared by the energy.

The demonic energy tightened around Song Cheng’s body and slammed him into the ground.

Song Ye flew down, catching Song Cheng and striking the demonic energy with a palm.

However, this slight damage was insignificant to Dayong’s demonic energy. It rapidly regenerated and multiplied, enveloping the entire General’s Mansion, casting the world into darkness.

The demonic energy formed a net, enclosing the two of them. From all directions, countless blades materialized, stabbing at them. They narrowly avoided the blades, breaking through the demonic energy and rising above it.

Together, they launched a black energy attack at the demonic hand emerging from the darkness.

For a moment, the two sides were locked in a standoff, surrounded by swirling black energy and clouds of smoke.

Unfortunately, Song Cheng and Song Ye were no match for Dayong’s demonic energy. Forced back, they were struck, spitting blood and falling from the sky.

As they fell, Song Ye shielded Song Cheng with his body.

“Brother…”

“Song Ye, are you alright?” Song Cheng quickly asked.

Song Ye wiped the blood from his lips. “I’m fine. Brother, we can’t let Dayong destroy the formation.”

Dayong attacked the barrier again. The black energy transformed into countless tiny insects, gnawing at the barrier. Soon, cracks appeared, and the insects swarmed inside.

Meanwhile, after falling into the mortal realm, Si Lan and Haowei observed their surroundings and headed towards a village.

The red barrier separating the two worlds hadn’t completely disappeared, occasionally flickering but unable to fully form.

Si Lan remained silent, leading the way.

Haowei noticed something was off with Si Lan. Seeing a mud pit ahead that Si Lan hadn’t noticed, he quickly grabbed Si Lan’s arm and pulled him into his embrace, preventing him from stepping into the pit.

Lowering his head, Haowei saw Si Lan’s eyes were red and his arm trembled slightly, as if he were ill.

Haowei felt the coldness of Si Lan’s hand in his palm and couldn’t help but ask in a deep voice, “What’s wrong?”

Si Lan opened his mouth, his eyes growing redder, but he still couldn’t speak.

Haowei had never seen Si Lan like this before. Even last time at the Xuanling Sect, despite facing several difficulties, Si Lan had never shown any abnormal emotions.

He had always thought that this unruly devil didn’t understand what fear was.

Haowei’s voice carried a barely noticeable gentleness. “The barrier hasn’t completely disappeared, which means the formation isn’t entirely destroyed. We can still go back.”

After speaking, he hesitated for a moment and then reached out to pull Si Lan into his arms.

Si Lan lowered his dark lashes, his emotions in turmoil.

If they were stuck here forever, becoming ordinary mortals, how could he get his revenge?

All his hard work and effort would be for nothing.

He could never forget that rainy night when his mother’s blood soaked his clothes and stained the entire ground…

He had cast spells over and over again, trying to heal Luo Hui’s wounds, but nothing worked.

His mother’s warmth grew colder and colder.

The warmth that belonged to his mother in his memory slowly faded away.

He was so devastated that he trembled all over, convulsing, in pain that he couldn’t breathe, wanting to call out to his mother but unable to make a sound.

He missed his mother terribly at that moment, but he also felt guilty.

He might fail his mother’s expectations, unable to become the most powerful devil, unable to avenge her.

Haowei sensed Si Lan’s deep sadness, not just from losing his cultivation, but as if he was remembering something terrible. He slowly raised his hand and gently patted Si Lan’s back as if comforting a child.

Si Lan seemed to have lost half of his soul, silent and listless.

Haowei found a family in the village who agreed to let them stay temporarily. The elderly couple lent them a guest room and thoughtfully provided hot water.

They had traveled a long way, their shoes and clothes covered in dirt. Now that they had lost their powers, they couldn’t use a cleaning spell and had to deal with the dirt like ordinary people.

Haowei looked at the still-dazed Si Lan and hesitated before handing him a hot towel.

Si Lan, holding his head in his hands, was still in a state of collapse and didn’t react to Haowei’s gesture.

Seeing this, Haowei frowned. “I have a friend in the mortal city of Li. He might be able to help us with the return spell.” That friend was the Divine Monkey of the Heavens.

Si Lan finally looked up at Haowei, his eyes gradually refocusing. He stared at Haowei and slowly asked, “Really?”

“Yes.”

To manage the human world, Haowei had set up many earth immortals in the mortal realm, and there was one celestial lord who could directly communicate with him at the Yuqing Palace, the Divine Monkey of the Heavens.

However, the current problem was that they had become mortals. Traveling from this unfamiliar village to Li to find the Divine Monkey of the Heavens would likely be fraught with difficulties.

Si Lan took the towel from Haowei’s hand and roughly wiped his face. “Alright, let’s go find your friend now.”

Haowei held him down. “Rest first.”

“I’m fine.”

“I’m a bit tired.”

Upon hearing this, Si Lan’s lips moved, but he said nothing.

He let Haowei rest on the bed while he sat on the doorstep, staring at the night sky.

Haowei watched Si Lan’s figure, his brows slowly knitting together. For some reason, at that moment, he felt an endless loneliness and sadness from Si Lan’s heart.

Haowei realized he knew nothing about him. Si Lan might not be as carefree and indifferent as he had thought.

Often, it was because he saw through everything that he played around in the mortal world.

After a while, Si Lan fell asleep leaning against the door, his breathing soft but with a hint of sorrow in his features.

Haowei walked over and carried him to the bed, noticing how he curled up like a boiled shrimp, seemingly protecting himself in this position.

Haowei remembered that when he learned Lou Yu had died, he was also like this.

Could this be a self-protective behavior of the Shanji clan?

Thinking of this, Haowei’s lips moved slightly, his eyes growing softer. He sat in a chair, quietly watching over Si Lan, and eventually fell asleep as well.

Outside, the frogs croaked and insects chirped, the night wind rustling through the grass and trees.

The next day, Haowei was awakened by the sound of the door opening. Through his veil, he saw Si Lan opening the door, stretching in the sunlight.

Si Lan’s chin was raised, his face bathed in sunlight, looking gentle and delicate, full of vitality, a stark contrast to the dispirited person he had been last night.

Haowei stood up from the chair. Si Lan turned around and smiled apologetically, “Sorry, did the sound of me opening the door wake you?”

“No.” Haowei’s gaze carried a hint of scrutiny, secretly wondering if Si Lan’s abnormal behavior last night was due to possession. He hesitated and asked, “Are you alright?”

Si Lan, looking carefree, stretched his arms. “I’m fine. I figured it out last night. If we’re really stuck here and can’t go back, then in three months’ time, our village, I mean, the demon realm, should be in chaos without me. But it isn’t. The demon realm is as usual, the six realms are as usual, so we must be able to return.”

Haowei hadn’t expected that a night’s sleep would make him understand this reasoning. “Yes.”

“I remember the Pei family’s army is also heading to the capital. If we can blend in with them, we can travel with them and also investigate Tao Yuan’s obsession.”

“We might not be able to blend into the Pei family’s army that easily.”

Si Lan replied with an “Oh,” looking thoughtfully at Haowei’s veil. “Indeed, it won’t be easy.” After all, no one would travel day and night wearing a veil.

“Then we’ll just follow behind them,” Si Lan suggested.

“Okay.”

However, before they could go find the Pei family army, the army came to the village first.

The elderly couple who had taken them in mentioned that the Pei family army planned to place the rescued children in the village.

Now, all the villagers had gathered at the village chief’s house to see the Pei family army.

Si Lan and Haowei exchanged a glance and then joined the curious crowd to see what was happening.

Pei Jia had personally found the village chief and was talking with him in the main hall. Outside, a row of Pei family soldiers stood with long spears, expressionless and looking imposing.

The children, carrying their bags, stood timidly inside the house.

The villagers couldn’t stop praising the Pei family’s strict military discipline and majestic demeanor.

Si Lan and Haowei couldn’t squeeze into the crowd and had to stand outside, catching a glimpse of the scene inside. It was unclear what they were discussing, but the village chief kept nodding respectfully.

Then, Pei Jia looked back at Tao Yuan, who smiled slightly. Pei Jia couldn’t help but smile in return.

Tao Yuan, who had presumably recovered, had regained his voice. He had found foster families for each of his younger brothers, sending them off one by one, instructing them to be diligent, observant, endure hardships, and learn patience.

The younger brothers nodded obediently.

By the time they finished, it was late. The village chief insisted on letting the Pei family army rest for the night. Considering the long journey, Pei Jia agreed and ordered the troops to rest on the spot.

At night, Si Lan observed the Pei family army’s camp.

Haowei was dragged along, and the two of them hid in a field of red hemp, looking like thieves staking out a target.

Haowei’s breath was low and his expression under the veil was displeased, but he didn’t say anything.

He had never been this sneaky in his life.

Spending time with the demon lord had truly redefined his sense of dignity repeatedly.

Si Lan watched for a while and then frowned. “We can’t get in; there are people everywhere.” If he still had his powers, he could easily cast a spell to get to Tao Yuan, but now he couldn’t move at all.

Si Lan sighed, reaching out to touch the red hemp next to him, feeling something soft. Upon closer inspection in the faint moonlight, he realized it was a black bug.

Startled, Si Lan let out a scream and instinctively stepped back.

“Who’s there?”

The soldiers, hearing a sound from the red hemp field, immediately raised their spears and ran towards the noise.

Seeing this, Si Lan quickly grabbed Haowei’s sleeve and started running.

But before they could run far, they tripped over fallen red hemp stalks and fell to the ground, bringing Haowei down with them.

Haowei, caught off guard, fell on top of Si Lan. Hearing the footsteps approaching rapidly, he reached out and covered Si Lan’s eyes. Si Lan’s vision went black, and he couldn’t see anything.

In the next moment, he felt something wet touch the corner of his lips.

Si Lan’s heart instantly stopped, his eyes wide open, but all he saw was darkness.

This was the first time he had been kissed, even if the sensation was faint, almost nonexistent. Yet, the other’s breath carried a strong, unstoppable force that spread rapidly from the warm touch, enveloping him entirely, making him forget to breathe.

The soldiers arrived, and in the moonlight, they saw a man in black kissing someone in his arms, who was dressed in green, their face unclear.

The soldiers assumed Si Lan was a woman and teased, “So, it’s a pair of wild lovebirds hiding in the red hemp field!”

“…” Si Lan.

“…” Haowei.

Chapter 140 – It's Fine If I Sleep on the Sofa

Chapter 140 – It’s Fine If I Sleep on the Sofa

Lu Shifeng brought three brats back home for dinner.

Jian Sheng, following behind, felt a bit surreal, even wondering if he had misheard something strange just now.

Must have misheard, he thought.

After all, it’s Lu Shifeng, the famous War God. Could words like “afraid of the dark” even be associated with him?

Impossible, definitely impossible!

The group returned to the dining room where the aroma of food greeted them. Jian Luo had just finished freshening up and glanced at them. “You’re back, let’s eat.”

Lu Shifeng sat down without a care in the world.

Beside him, Jian Sheng and Su Liang felt somewhat uneasy. They weren’t quite used to dining with Lu Shifeng, so they were rather reserved. It felt like ordinary commoners suddenly invited to dine with a British prince—an enchanting, surreal feeling.

Jian Luo instructed the three brats to sit properly.

Long Aotian still had bits of Jumping Fruit around his mouth. Jian Luo asked, “Have you eaten something?”

Long Aotian decisively shook his head.

Jian Luo pressed further, “Who gave it to you?”

Long Aotian quickly pointed with his little paw at Lu Shifeng, betraying him without hesitation or second thought.

Lu Shifeng raised an eyebrow and glanced at Long Aotian.

Long Aotian quickly averted his eyes and hid behind Jian Luo’s arm, trying hard to distance himself from his formidable dad. “Can’t see, can’t see, if I can’t see, then I don’t know who said it.”

Jian Luo first arranged the bowls for the three brats, then while serving rice, he started to chatter. “As I’ve told you before, they can’t eat random things now. Their stomachs are too fragile. Last time, Long Aotian threw up after eating a St. Luo Fruit.”

Lu Shifeng took his food and replied softly, “Understood.”

Jian Luo continued, “The doctor says they have malnutrition now. When you train them, you must keep an eye on them. If there’s anything wrong, get the doctor to check them promptly. Although dragons aren’t that fragile, he’s my offspring, and humans are more delicate. I’m afraid some genetic defect might have been passed on, which could have negative effects.”

Lu Shifeng tasted a piece of ribs and glanced at Jian Luo’s plate, noticing very little rice. He asked, “Just this much?”

Jian Luo nodded at first, then added, “Did you hear what I just said?”

Though he seemed a bit abrupt, Jian Luo’s voice itself was soft, carrying a hint of coquettishness and petulance in whatever he said.

He himself didn’t think much of it; it had always been like this. But it frightened Su Liang and Jian Sheng next to him enough that they wished they could rush over and cover Jian Luo’s mouth.

Lu Shifeng sipped his soup. “If someone’s following, I’ll notice. Don’t worry too much.”

Jian Luo gave him a slightly reproachful glance. “I’m serious with you.”

“Mm.” Lu Shifeng calmly responded, “I’m listening.”

Jian Luo relented then.

He quieted down, but Su Liang and Jian Sheng beside him were still uneasy.

Especially Su Liang, who had broken out in a sweat all over her back. She couldn’t believe her own son would actually behave this way. Wasn’t he afraid?

Who on earth had the audacity to speak like that to Marshal Lu Shifeng?

They finished their meal quickly.

After finishing his meal, Lu Shifeng habitually told the three on the table, “Up, go bathe.”

Back in the tribe, Lu Shifeng used to take care of their bathing. Now it has become a habit for them, eating and then bathing with their dad.

Jian Luo said, “Are you busy? If so, I’ll take them myself later.”

Lu Shifeng adjusted them on his shoulders. “There’s no need to not take a bath.”

Jian Luo pursed his lips and let him be.

But Lu Shifeng also didn’t forget to say to the two, “Take your time.”

Su Liang started to shake and nodded quickly. “Go ahead.”

Lu Shifeng took a deep breath and left.

When Lu Shifeng got far enough away, Su Liang couldn’t sit still anymore, and came over to say, “Luoluo, how can you talk to General Lu like that?”

Jian Luo, eating, found this absurd: “How did I speak?”

Aren’t we like this to Lu Shifeng all the time?

“You… you’re not making distinctions!” Su Liang was beyond iron and steel. “Aren’t you even afraid to annoy him?”

?

Jian Luo recollected what he had just written earlier.

…..

Lu Shifeng paused while holding the document, his face remained calm as he spoke, “Vomited the nutritional drink today. Might be due to some health issues. Took some test medicine.”

He paused before continuing, “Sleep in the adjacent room tonight. Don’t come over. You’ll start another commotion, not cooperating with the observation.”

He had figured out that these three kids weren’t as fragile as they appeared. They didn’t strike hard when Jian Luo was around, and when he was, they immediately became submissive, pretending to be delicate.

Jian Luo frowned, “I absolutely can’t come over?”

“Yeah,” Lu Shifeng replied, “No need to worry. I have Secretary Jin watching them next door.”

Jian Luo relaxed a bit, “Okay then.”

It was the first night in so long without the kids around. Once he settled down, he felt a bit lonely. It was as if a piece of his heart had suddenly gone empty, a void filled with uncontrollable thoughts.

“They’re not that fragile, no need to worry too much,” Lu Shifeng said.

Jian Luo nodded, sitting cross-legged on the sofa. Suddenly, he remembered something and looked at Lu Shifeng, “Um… It’s getting late.”

Lu Shifeng raised an eyebrow at him.

“I mean, it’s late,” Jian Luo pointed at the clock, “You’ve had a long day. Shouldn’t you go back to rest?”

Lu Shifeng finally tasted the feeling of being shut out again after trying to eat closed doors.

Keeping a calm mind, he thought, at least that unfortunate main character in the novel was worse off than him.

Thinking of this, Lu Shifeng said, “I’m more worried about the kids.”

?

A question mark appeared over Jian Luo’s head.

“They’re next door, I want to stay here in case something happens and I can take care of it,” Lu Shifeng said nonchalantly, “You can sleep if you want, I’ll sleep on the sofa.”

?

Jian Luo, who was drinking water, accidentally choked upon hearing this. He coughed continuously and said, “Didn’t you just say there’s no need to worry?”

Lu Shifeng came over from the sofa and gently patted Jian Luo’s back, “Take it slow.”

Jian Luo’s face turned red from coughing.

When he turned his head, Jian Luo realized that Lu Shifeng was too close to him. The man’s handsome face loomed large in front of him, his ruby-like eyes calm and profound, staring at him. His voice was magnetic and charming, “I know you’re worried, so I’ll watch over them for you. Go to sleep.”

Because they were so close, Jian Luo could smell his familiar scent.

For some reason, Jian Luo blushed, and the atmosphere inexplicably became ambiguous. Jian Luo stuttered, “But you worked so hard during the day, it’s too much for you to sleep on the sofa and stay up late. Maybe… you should go back.”

How could Lu Shifeng go back? He moved closer, taking advantage of Jian Luo’s softened attitude, somewhat suggestive, “We used to…”

*Ding*

A knock on the door interrupted their conversation completely.

Long Autian’s voice rang crisply from outside, “Dad!”

His sister’s voice was soft, “Dad, open the door. We’re back.”

The children’s voices from outside were clear and vivid.

Jian Luo pushed Lu Shifeng away without mercy, nearly knocking him off the sofa with the force of his excitement, “The kids are back!”

Chapter 139 – I'm Afraid of the Dark

Chapter 139 – I’m Afraid of the Dark

For Lu Shifeng, these comments had a profound impact.

Having lived for centuries, he considered himself well-read, with academic credentials to prove it. He was never one to isolate himself and was constantly learning. Yet, as he read these comments, Lu Shifeng found himself momentarily silenced, starting to doubt where he might have gone wrong and why these people’s perspectives were so sudden?

Lu Shifeng fell into deep thought.

However, being someone who actively sought answers, when he had doubts, he contacted Secretary Jin.

Secretary Jin felt uneasy when she received the communication: “Marshal.”

“Hmm,” Lu Shifeng’s tone was normal. He said, “I have a question that needs your answer.”

?

Secretary Jin visibly panicked.

Whenever Lu Shifeng had nothing to do, he would issue instructions directly. When there was an issue, he would beat around the bush, which was usually an indication that he might be looking to pick a fight tonight.

Secretary Jin’s heart raced with apprehension. Taking a deep breath, she steadied herself like a warrior preparing for a difficult task: “Please, go ahead!”

Lu Shifeng paused for a moment, then finally spoke: “Have you read that recently popular novel?”

“This…?” Secretary Jin froze, a bit dumbfounded.

This matter was beyond her imagination and knowledge.

Lu Shifeng, impatiently: “What’s wrong?”

If it weren’t for the Marshal’s restraint, she might have cursed “Obviously it’s only you who haven’t even read this”, but she managed to hold back.

Secretary Jin hesitated: “Do you mean… ‘Wife Takes the Lead and Dominates the Dragon Clan’s Love for Me’?”

Lu Shifeng: “Yes, have you read it?”

Secretary Jin’s hand trembled, knocking over the nearby cup. She was in a state of panic akin to having her salary cut by Lu Shifeng.

Frowning, Lu Shifeng impatiently tapped the desk.

Secretary Jin stammered: “I have read it. Do you have any questions about it? Should I contact the website and publishers to take it down?”

Not only had she read it, but wasn’t it just something she casually serialized in her spare time? Who would have expected that ‘Wife’ would unexpectedly skyrocket to popularity among the Dark Star people when everyone was hopeful about global affairs?

If Lu Shifeng became angry and investigated…

Secretary Jin imagined the scene and suddenly felt goosebumps all over her body. She even considered where she could bury herself in advance.

Lu Shifeng said, “Why take it down?”

Secretary Jin snapped back to reality: “Ah… ah? So, what do you mean?”

“What do you think,” Lu Shifeng tapped his fingertip on the desk. His tone was calm and slow, yet it carried an underlying danger, “about this male lead?”

Ah, this…

Secretary Jin was immediately at a loss for words!

Did he still not realize? If you don’t know, please check the comments section in the bottom left corner!

Unfortunately, she dared not say this aloud. While she could deliver a knockout blow online, she could only meekly respond to Lu Shifeng in reality: “I think he’s quite good, isn’t he… quite domineering?”

Lu Shifeng narrowed his eyes dangerously: “Do you think he’s scum?”

Secretary Jin broke out in a cold sweat: “Um, well…”

At this critical juncture, she suddenly thought of a perfect answer: “Marshal, whether the male lead is good or bad should be judged by the heroine’s feelings and thoughts.”

Lu Shifeng: “Oh?”

“It mainly depends on the heroine’s psychology and her thoughts,” Secretary Jin offered her advice. “I think whether a male lead is scummy depends on whether he makes the heroine cry. A qualified male lead shouldn’t make the heroine cry.”

Lu Shifeng thought of the thousands of words of psychological description in the book and impatiently raised an eyebrow: “Is there no other way?”

Secretary Jin was stunned: “What?”

Lu Shifeng didn’t say much more: “That’s it.”

After ending the call, he remained silent for a moment, then resumed reading the novel. It was still a serialized story, currently depicting the heroine returning with a child, and the plot where the male lead found her. The male lead treated the heroine well, but she always seemed to evade him.

Her dilemma revolves around three main points:

# Does he really love me? #

# Is it just for the children? #

# Am I just a human after all? #

?

Lu Shifeng furrowed his brows as he read. Before starting this novel, he had never realized how complicated human emotions could be.

Why would the male lead only care about the children?

If he merely liked the children, he could hand the infants over to specialists for care. Why go through the trouble of being so involved?

Is the female lead misunderstanding something about racial hierarchy and power?

As for whether he loves her or not, if he’s willing to be so involved, how could it be anything but love?

And what about being “just a human”? Why is she bothered about this when she hasn’t been sent to the battlefield?

Closing the book, Lu Shifeng sighed deeply, feeling the pressure.

The next day

Today was a day for the three little ones to study.

Early in the morning, Jian Luo had already prepared breakfast. Sulian also woke up early and was helping with the cooking.

A nutritionist came by and said, “Our medical team has delivered the nutrient solution suitable for young dragons’ consumption. This supplement provides daily nutrients necessary for their growth. Please ensure they take it regularly and in the prescribed amount.”

After several days, Jian Luo reunited with the verdant waters: “Good.”

At the dining table, he specially steamed milk cakes and cooked meat porridge. Since his return, there had been more ingredients. He packed custard buns and made sandwiches, filling the table to the brim.

Long Aotian smelled the aroma from the moment he woke up, and even while washing, he couldn’t wait to eat.

Jian Sheng said, “Hey, slow down.”

Because Long Aotian got along well with Jian Sheng, Jian Sheng took him to wash in the morning. Long Batian, on the other hand, preferred to be with Jian Luo. As the little dragons grew day by day, their personalities became more distinct. Long Batian was solitary by nature. Apart from his older brother and younger sister, he ignored everyone else, except when he touched Jian Luo.

If he were placed among the dragon group, he would definitely be an outcast. However, Jian Luo was particularly indulgent toward him, caring for the baby dragons, and said, “Today, you have to attend classes. During the lessons, you need to listen to the teacher and get along well with your classmates…”

Jian Sheng couldn’t help but interject: “Do they even have classmates?”

Jian Luo said, “The three of them together, aren’t they classmates?”

Jian Sheng’s eyes widened in surprise; he couldn’t refute Jian Luo’s logic. No wonder he was his brother.

Outside, Sulian had already set up everything. Jian Luo put down the three babies to eat; they had already learned to eat by themselves, so there was no need for people to feed them.

Sulian pulled Jian Luo aside to look at the entire cabinet of things.

Jian Luo stared blankly, “What is all this?!”

The entire cabinet was filled with various bottles and jars, each labeled with many tags:

“Hard Scale Fat”

“Dragon Biscuits”

“Fur Moisturizer”

Su Liang said, “These were just brought over by the medical team together. They said these are daily nutrient-rich calcium feeds, with a daily portion, helping to strengthen scales, protect the intestines, aid limb development, and protect the heart and lungs.”

Jian Luo’s mouth twitched slightly, “Thank you.”

He went back and found all three had finished eating. After they finished their meal, they liked to lean together to rest, usually back to back, with a comfortable purring sound in their throats. Sometimes, they would softly crawl to one side and shake their little wings comfortably.

Jian Luo came over and found that none of the three had drunk their nutrient fluid. He frowned, “Why didn’t you drink the water?”

He handed the cups to Long Ao Tian, “Little ones, time to drink some water.”

Long Ao Tian instinctively thought there was some benefit, but after tasting the nutrient fluid, his whole little head shook. He took a few steps back, turned his face away, clearly showing his disdain.

Jian Luo gave the cups to the other three, but they all refused.

Su Liang commented from behind, “Maybe they don’t like the taste?”

Picky eaters.

Jian Luo felt a bit helpless. He pretended to be angry and put the cups aside, “Have I spoiled you too much usually?”

The sound of cups tapping the table was not small, causing the little ones to shiver all over.

They could understand speech and knew Jian Luo was angry.

Under Jian Luo’s gaze, Long Ao Tian finally moved. He sluggishly jumped onto the table, first sneakily glancing at Jian Luo’s expression, then whimpering twice in grievance. Like a dragon snapping its wrist, he buried his head and took two sips of the nutrient fluid.

Jian Luo couldn’t hold back his laughter at this small appearance.

Long Ao Tian took two sips and sneezed.

Just as Jian Luo was about to encourage him, Long Ao Tian suddenly staggered two steps toward him. Before he could reach Jian Luo, with a “whoosh,” he suddenly retched and vomited all the nutrient fluid.

Jian Luo’s face changed.

His first reaction was to pull Long Ao Tian up. Luckily, there were always medical personnel on their side, and they immediately came over to check.

After the nurse checked for a while, she said to Jian Luo holding Long Ao Tian, “Preliminary judgment suggests there might be a stress reaction to the nutrient fluid. We need to do further examinations.”

Jian Luo remembered his own situation and felt a bit worried, “Is he okay?”

“He’s fine,” the nurse said, “Perfectly normal.”

Jian Luo thought he could skip class today, but it seemed he couldn’t escape after all. He smiled and patted the dragon cub’s head, “Alright, let’s go.”

He said he would be nearby during class, but in fact, there were some projects he couldn’t stay by their side all the time.

Apart from language and literature classes, Jian Luo couldn’t follow the entire practical hunting course, especially since today’s teacher was Lu Shifeng.

Approaching dusk was the practical session, and Lu Shifeng came specifically to oversee their hunting studies.

Jian Luo prepared to go back to cook dinner. He told Lu Shifeng and Jian Sheng, “You two stay here. I’ll go back first. There’s something cooking in the kitchen.”

Lu Shifeng replied, “Go ahead.”

The three cubs were very excited today. Dragonkin were very energetic and not easily tired, especially after experiencing so many new things today, they were even more excited.

Long Ao Tian came down from the machine, excited to show off his hunting results to his father, but he looked around for Jian Luo and couldn’t find him anywhere.

Lu Shifeng picked him up, “Who told you to stop as soon as you came down?”

Long Ao Tian looked blankly at his father.

Lu Shifeng tossed him back to the training ground, “Continue.”

After just coming down from the machine, resting wasn’t good for the heart. The dragon cub rolled on the ground for a couple of laps, wanting to bite Lu Shifeng but afraid of getting hit. After careful consideration, he obediently started running.

After they finished running a lap, Lu Shifeng was still standing there and waved, “Come here.”

The three cubs cautiously looked at each other, feeling that their father had ill intentions.

But if they didn’t come, they might get punished, so reluctantly, they slowly walked up and stood obediently in front of him.

Lu Shifeng reached out, and in his palm were three jumping fruits.

This was a toy that young dragons loved. It could jump on its own and could be eaten. They always wanted to play with it, but jumping fruits were rare and expensive, so Jian Luo didn’t let them play with it much before.

Long Ao Tian exclaimed in surprise.

Lu Shifeng said, “Do you like it?”

Each dragon took one, and they were very happy. Their little wings fluttered behind them, especially the black one whose red eyes sparkled. Upon hearing Lu Shifeng’s question, it even happily cried out.

Lu Shifeng raised an eyebrow and casually asked, “Does Daddy treat you well?”

The three cubs were soft-hearted and nodded their little heads.

Lu Shifeng continued leisurely, “Then… did you feel uncomfortable last night when Daddy wasn’t around?”

The little dragons hesitated for a moment.

They felt quite comfortable, after all, they always slept with Daddy, so there wasn’t much discomfort.

Little Silver Dragon was the smartest. She hoped she could eat fruits again next time and softly said, “Not uncomfortable.”

Lu Shifeng nodded in satisfaction. The corner of the Marshal’s mouth curled into a meaningful smile, “Do you not want to sleep with Daddy tonight?”

He learned this trick from novels.

At last, the unlucky male lead had some use.

Little Silver Dragon thought for a moment, glanced at her brothers, and finally spoke up, “Daddy, you’re an adult. You should learn to sleep on your own.”

Lu Shifeng said, “Then why don’t you sleep on your own?”

This question left the dragon cubs dumbfounded, staring with wide eyes. It was their little sister who spoke softly, “Because I’m afraid of the dark.”

Lu Shifeng didn’t change his expression, “So am I.”

Chapter 138 – Dominant Dragon Clan Falls for Me

Chapter 138 – Dominant Dragon Clan Falls for Me

*Ding*

The doorbell rang.

Jian Luo, resting in the room with his child, hesitated upon hearing the sound. It wasn’t much of a surprise to find a tall man standing outside when he went to open the door.

Lu Shifeng said, “Not going to greet or tell me?”

“Huh?” Jian Luo innocently retorted, “What greeting?”

Lu Shifeng squinted, speaking up, “About moving out.”

Jian Luo suddenly realized, saying, “Oh, that. You’ve been busy lately, so I didn’t mention it. Couldn’t Jin Secretary have informed you about it?”

Lu Shifeng patiently replied, “You could have at least discussed it with me.”

Leaning against the door, Jian Luo sighed, “Do I even have the right to decide where I sleep now?”

Though they didn’t argue outright, tension filled the air, thick with unspoken grievances. Jian Luo didn’t refuse to see him, but his demeanor clearly showed resistance. In just a short day, their attitudes had drastically changed.

Lu Shifeng glanced inside where three children were munching on pastries on the sofa, their familiar milky aroma making one’s mouth water. Whenever Jian Luo cooked, there was always a portion for him, but not anymore.

The Marshal sensed the pressure.

Lu Shifeng asked, “Who upset you?”

Jian Luo gave a bitter smile, feeling his heart burn just from seeing him now, “No one. Thanks for your concern. If there’s nothing else, good night.”

?

As the door was about to close, Lu Shifeng reached out and stopped it. Right in front of Jian Luo, he forcibly held the door, causing the sturdy metal edge to slightly deform due to the force applied. But the one causing this remained indifferent.

Lu Shifeng stared at Jian Luo, unblinking. “Explain.”

Jian Luo snapped out of his shock.

Lu Shifeng made him understand the vast difference in their power. Though Jian Luo had already sorted out these thoughts throughout the day, it was good to clarify things that should have been said.

Since the three children could understand their conversation, Jian Luo suggested, “Let’s talk outside.”

Lu Shifeng hesitated for a moment before nodding.

Jian Luo asked his mother and younger brother in the next room to look after the children and then went outside to talk with Lu Shifeng.

Standing outside, Su Liang grabbed Jian Luo’s hand, “Luo Luo…”

Jian Luo turned around, “What is it?”

“Don’t act impulsively. Don’t get angry.”

“Don’t worry.”

“But…”

Where could Su Liang be reassured? Jian Luo had been stern-faced all day, not saying much or getting angry with anyone. Ever since he returned from the medical examination, he started packing up. Despite laughing and talking not long ago, now suddenly acting like this, anyone with eyes could see something was wrong.

Of course, Su Liang didn’t think Jian Luo was at fault. It was obvious the people from the Dark Star Race looked down on them. However, tearing their faces apart now would be pointless. She didn’t want the children to suffer and inevitably had to say a few more words.

“Just go out and clarify things.” Jian Luo patted her shoulder, “Rest assured, am I that foolish? As a father, don’t I understand a bit about everything?”

Only then did Su Liang hesitate and nod.

Jian Luo walked out of the room and followed Lu Shifeng around the corner to a nearby lounge. The lounge was spacious with various recreational facilities, including a swing-like hanging chair that Jian Luo quite liked.

He sat down on it, swinging his legs, “So, what do we need to talk about?”

Lu Shifeng sat across from him, leaning against the long table. His tall figure was clad in his formal military uniform again, the dark blue fabric fitting perfectly and giving off a rigid, cold impression when he didn’t smile.

Lu Shifeng asked, “Did something happen at the medical examination today that angered you?”

“No,” Jian Luo replied.

“Really?” Lu Shifeng lightly pursed his lips, repeating, “Then why move out?”

Jian Luo was fiddling with the swing’s ropes for the first time and was a bit unsure how to control them, causing them to sway unsteadily.

Lu Shifeng came over to help him stabilize it, seemingly afraid he might fall. He had been by his side, guarding him throughout these actions, moving effortlessly and naturally as if taking care of him had become a habit.

Jian Luo felt somewhat uneasy, wanting to get off the swing.

Lu Shifeng said, “It’s not safe for you to sit on this thing alone. I’ll stay here, you can play a bit longer.”

Who wants to play now!

Jian Luo gave him a glare, but felt arguing about it was childish, so he chose to remain silent, ignoring Lu Shifeng without any response.

Lu Shifeng looked at Jian Luo’s impassive profile and suddenly felt like he had a breakthrough. He recalled Jian Luo’s words from not long ago and finally spoke up, “Were you upset that I wasn’t with you during the day?”

Jian Luo replied, “No.”

Although he said so, deep down he was hoping Lu Shifeng would provide some explanation. But he had underestimated the extent of a man’s indifference.

Lu Shifeng didn’t explain. He continued, “Your current wristband is temporary. I’ve instructed Secretary Jin to retrieve the one with account access for you. It’s being demagnetized these days. You’ll get it tomorrow. This wristband will allow direct communication with me.”

Jian Luo felt conflicted, saying, “Oh.”

Lu Shifeng then asked, “Did the physical examination go smoothly?”

“Quite alright.”

Your son and daughter were scared to death, but even if you knew, you’d just say the child should toughen up a bit.

After chatting for a while, their attitudes finally softened somewhat.

Lu Shifeng escorted Jian Luo back. Naturally, he also wanted to go in and rest, but Jian Luo blocked him at the door, looking at him warily. “What are you doing?”

Marshal Lu had never imagined he’d be shut out, especially twice in one night. He replied, “Resting.”

Jian Luo raised an eyebrow. “We’re not even married yet. Please respect my reputation. If rumors spread, how am I supposed to find someone else in the future?”

There was a brief silence in the air.

Lu Shifeng furrowed his brows and asked, “Who are you looking for?”

Jian Luo was taken aback. He hadn’t expected the man’s focus to be so peculiar. It was just a casual remark, but now that it had been said, he had to tough it out. “What does it matter to you?”

Lu Shifeng towered over him, exerting pressure from above. He said, “You’re still young. Focus your energy on the right path and not on trivial matters.”

Jian Luo wanted to slap him.

But upon reflection, what he said made sense. So he said, “You’re right. Hurry up and leave. I want to focus my attention on more important things now. Don’t hinder me here.”

*Slam*

The door was closed.

Lu Shifeng stood outside, momentarily lost in thought as he stared at the closed door. He frowned and finally decided not to knock again. He turned and headed straight for the training grounds instead of returning to his room.

The Marshal, feeling a burst of frustration, had originally intended to grab a few squads for a training session to blow off steam. However, when he arrived, it happened to be time to rest. A group of dragons sat on the ground discussing a book:

“You have to read this novel.”

“Which one?”

“Earth Dog, the hottest one lately, ‘My Darling Wife Runs Away with the Dominant Dragon Clan’.”

“No way, that sounds so exciting!”

“It is! The female lead is human, petite and cute. One day she accidentally gets pregnant with a dragon cub but runs away due to racial issues. She’s strong and independent, raises the child herself, and years later, she returns with the child to her homeland…”

The dragons listened with relish, some even wiping tears when they heard about the female lead’s heartbreak departure.

“Her life is so tough.”

“I envy her. I want to find a human too, but they look so fragile. It feels like you could crush their bones with a little force.”

“But the male lead in this novel doesn’t cherish her.”

“He doesn’t even come for her pregnancy check-ups. Can this dragon still be considered a dragon?”

“Ugh, what a scumbag. Our dragon clan would never have such dragons.”

After the dragons finished gossiping, they felt a chill down their spines.

One of them looked up and saw Lu Shifeng standing by the door. Perhaps because of the backlighting, they inexplicably felt that Lu Shifeng’s face had turned as dark as charcoal, his aura making the dragons fearful.

“Marshal!”

The dragons hastily stood up, others awakening as if caught playing with their phones in class.

Lu Shifeng chuckled coldly. “Reading novels during training time?”

Most of the dragons were teenagers, yearning for love and enjoying such stories. Besides, it was the break time during the mid-training session, so they could play. But none dared to retort to Lu Shifeng; instead, they apologized one after another.

Lu Shifeng raised his hand. “Hand them over.”

The dragons were stunned.

Under the dumbfounded gaze of the young dragons, Lu Shifeng narrowed his eyes, his imposing aura fully unleashed. “Should I repeat myself?”

Terrifying.

The young dragons’ minds went blank, and instinctively, they handed over their novels.

Once everyone snapped out of the dragon king’s oppression, they realized their novels, their source of joy, had been confiscated by Lu Shifeng!

In the lounge,

Lu Shifeng sat elegantly, flipping through the pages with grace. His demeanor was noble, as if he were reviewing important business documents.

In reality, he was reading Chapter Ten of “My Darling Wife Runs Away with the Dominant Dragon Clan.”

The doctor had said, “He has matters to attend to, so we’ll conduct the examination on his behalf. Please cooperate.”

The heroine was on the verge of tears, the author spent thousands of words meticulously describing her inner turmoil—from disbelief and despondency at feeling undervalued, to sadness and ultimately deciding to break up. It was truly gripping.

?

A question mark appeared above Lu Shifeng’s head.

Wasn’t this male lead just… attending a checkup?

In just a few short hours, how could this woman have so many thoughts? It’s not like she was going into battle; why did she have so many feelings about it?

One advantage of intergalactic novels is that each book has a magnetic disk. Opening the comments section behind each chapter allows readers to see the reactions. Lu Shifeng wasn’t interested, but given his confusion over the matter, he rarely opened the comments and decided to see what the readers were saying:

“This male lead is truly the ultimate straight guy!”

“Our baby is so pitiful, please let them break up soon!”

“Wouldn’t it be better with a different male lead?”

“This male lead is such scum, he might as well marry his army, haha.”

Lu Shifeng’s hand holding the book trembled slightly.

Author’s comment: Lu Shifeng: quite perplexed.

Chapter 137 – Separate Ways

Chapter 137 – Separate Ways

Upon hearing these words, Jian Luo’s heart immediately ached.

He held his sister and gently patted her head, “We are going home, very soon. We’ll be home soon.”

Not far away, Long Aotian seemed to calm down as well. Realizing that struggling was futile, he obediently crouched against the glass wall, his dragon eyes fixed on Jian Luo with a hopeful gaze, wishing his father could come and rescue him.

Jian Luo felt like his heart was being stabbed as he looked at that gaze. He instinctively took a few steps forward, but the doctor behind him cautioned, “Please do not cross the line. It could affect the scan results. We might have to redo it, and our technology ensures the young highness won’t feel uncomfortable.”

Seeing Jian Luo approach, Long Aotian couldn’t hold back anymore. The little dragon dashed to the glass wall, chirping and chirping incessantly. Every scale on his body betrayed anxiety and unease. Initially using his horn against the glass, he then resorted to bumping it with his body.

Jian Luo was frantic. Tears were welling up, but he had no time to process his own emotions. As a caretaker, he was more afraid of the children hurting themselves. He turned to the doctor, “Can I talk to him?”

The doctor hesitated for a moment, then nodded, “Yes.”

They handed Jian Luo a small communication button. Through this device, his voice could be transmitted inside the glass. Jian Luo hurried over to the child, suppressing his own emotions, and spoke gently, “Little one?”

Long Aotian let out a whimper of distress.

The child was probably too angry to speak. He focused solely on expressing his dissatisfaction through sounds. Fortunately, though forgetting to speak, he could understand what was being said.

Jian Luo reassured him, “It’s okay. Don’t be afraid. Uncle and auntie are just checking your body. Once the check-up is over, you won’t get sick all the time. Then you can go hunting with Dad.”

Upon hearing the word “hunting,” Long Aotian’s spirits lifted. In a child’s world, hunting meant food. If there’s food, Dad would make delicious meatballs for him, and his younger siblings wouldn’t go hungry. So hunting was the best, the best game.

“Chirp!”

Long Aotian sat down, showing some pride. Finally giving up on bumping the wall, he adjusted to the temperature and light inside the glass. After circling inside, he raised his head high, looking like he was leading an expedition.

“Chirp!”

He called out to Jian Luo again, bursting with pride.

Jian Luo laughed, “Yes, yes, little one is indeed a fearless young man!”

The doctors, seeing him finally calm down, breathed a sigh of relief and proceeded with the examination swiftly.

The doctor said, “Next one.”

They treated the dragon cubs with utmost care, each person showing respect and performing their duties meticulously.

Jian Luo patted the second child’s head, “Don’t be afraid, little one. Look, your big brother is fine. It will be over soon.”

The second child was always the most silent among the three. The sister was smart and expressive, Long Aotian was energetic and talkative, but the second child was the quietest. It didn’t like to move much or speak.

Sometimes Jian Luo felt this child might think the world only had himself. Other times, he felt it wasn’t true. It would come to him for comfort when sad and quietly stay by the sister’s side when she was sick. It even helped clean up after his brother’s mischief.

So Jian Luo thought, maybe this little one just wasn’t good at expressing emotions, a bit… like Lu Shifeng.

The doctor said, “Seems like chatting helps. You should talk to him more later.”

Jian Luo nodded quickly, “Okay, don’t worry.”

Long Ao Tian was brought out looking very aggrieved, rolling into Jian Luo’s arms. Upon seeing his younger brother taken away, he wanted to bite the doctor, but Jian Luo managed to stop him just in time.

Finally, Long Ba Tian was placed into the glass enclosure.

After the machine started, the light and temperature rose. Everyone was concerned that Long Ba Tian might not adjust well at first, fearing he would exhibit the same restlessness as the first one. However—

Several seconds passed. Sitting motionless in the middle of the glass enclosure, Long Ba Tian stood as still as a statue, seemingly unaffected by the outside world. His indifferent attitude made the observers doubt their own sanity.

Finally, the scanning process was completed.

The doctor approached to take him, expecting him to be cooperative and indifferent. But when the doctor tried to hold him, those amber eyes carried a slow chill and wariness. He seemed like a dangerous hunter ready to strike—if you dared to come closer, he might snap at your throat.

Unknowingly, the doctor started to feel intimidated.

A female nurse turned to Jian Luo and said, “Luo Luo, please come and take the child.”

Jian Luo responded and walked over. Initially unaware of what had transpired, he had been a bit anxious, thinking Long Ba Tian might be injured. He bent down, reaching out to scoop him up, “What’s wrong?”

The dragon, who had just been fierce moments ago, now reverted to an indifferent and zen-like state, allowing Jian Luo to check him in his palm, “Seems like nothing’s wrong.”

The doctor reassured from the side, “Don’t worry, everything will be fine.”

Jian Luo finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Finally, it was the youngest one’s turn. She resisted strongly, holding onto Jian Luo’s hand tightly. When the doctor approached to take her, she couldn’t help but whisper softly, “Dad, I’m scared.”

In an instant, Jian Luo’s eyes reddened. He gently patted his daughter’s head, “It’s alright, it won’t hurt. We’ll be home soon after the check-up, okay?”

After hesitating for a moment, the girl nodded, “Okay.”

Inside the glass, the youngest didn’t behave well either. She kept touching the glass but couldn’t muster the lively energy of Long Ao Tian or the calmness of her elder brother. In the end, she curled herself into a small white ball in one corner of the glass.

Finally, the doctor announced, “All done.”

With all three children checked one by one, it was now Jian Luo’s turn for his own examination.

The doctor approached and asked him to leave the children outside while he went in for his examination. Jian Luo was a bit uneasy but could see the doctor’s concerns. The doctor chuckled helplessly, “You can relax. We have orders from the Marshal himself—aside from the full-body scan, we won’t do anything else. And we’ll follow all your commands and requests; we won’t act without your consent.”

Jian Luo finally felt a bit relieved and proceeded to leave the children outside for his examination.

While gentle with the children, the doctors weren’t as accommodating with adults. They said, “We need to do blood tests and routine checks. Please lie down on this bed, and we’ll begin shortly.”

Jian Luo replied, “Okay.”

Standing nearby was the nurse who had previously assisted with his examinations. She remarked, “You don’t seem as nervous as before.”

“After all, I’m a father now. Can’t stay nervous forever,” Jian Luo joked back, “If I were that fragile every day, I wouldn’t survive.”

“Actually, you don’t have to be so pessimistic,” the nurse said thoughtfully, “You have a lot of luck that many envy. The child you’re carrying is the only hope of the entire Dark Star, and the Little Princes are destined future Dragon Kings of the Dragon Clan. Our King is still young…”

The nurse paused, “And still unmarried.”

Jian Luo smiled wryly.

“You’re the only partner he’s ever acknowledged,” the nurse lowered her voice as the doctor returned, “I think your good fortune is yet to fully unfold. Keep going.”

The doctor came over and drew blood from Jian Luo, saying, “There’s something I’d like to discuss with you.”

Jian Luo refocused, “What is it?”

As the doctor worked, he explained, “The results of the Little Princes’ examinations are out. They do show signs of mild malnutrition. We’ll quickly provide a regimen to rectify this. Starting today, they’ll need bi-daily check-ups. Now that they’re a month old, they can begin physical and educational training. To ensure they adapt quickly and integrate smoothly, we hope for your cooperation.”

Jian Luo frowned, “So soon?”

The doctor smiled, “Don’t worry, it won’t be too taxing. It’s all basic training. You can follow along if you’re worried.”

Jian Luo nodded then, now more keenly aware of the weight of wearing the crown. Here was the Dragon Clan, and they were returning to Dark Star—the most powerful and prosperous planet in the universe. There, the weak and tearful couldn’t survive for long.

Evening came.

Lu Shifeng finished his meeting and returned.

The first day back after a month filled with unresolved matters left him utterly exhausted. By the time he could truly rest, it was already past nine in the evening. He entered his room, opening the door to find it eerily quiet and spotlessly clean, just like it had been for centuries, unnervingly silent.

Everything seemed normal, yet not quite normal.

Lu Shifeng hesitated for a moment, then couldn’t resist contacting Secretary Jin, “Did you arrange the rooms incorrectly for Jian Luo and them?”

Secretary Jin paused briefly before replying, “No, it’s room 303 as planned. It was Jian Luo’s choice. He liked the layout of this room.”

Lu Shifeng remained silent for a while, then finally spoke up, “He doesn’t want to stay in the same room with me?”

There was a pause on the other end of the phone.

Secretary Jin felt a tightness in her scalp. After holding back for a while, she finally said, “Jian Luo mentioned that sleeping together before was due to the pregnancy. Now that the child is born, he feels there’s no need anymore. He also said he prefers that all aspects of daily life be separate from now on.”

Author’s note: Lu Shifeng: Feels a bit exposed here…

Chapter 136 – I Want to Go Home

Chapter 136 – I Want to Go Home

Jian Luo was dumbfounded.

He had always thought that the Dragon Clan was quite formidable. They seemed to possess an inherent aura of righteousness. But being Chinese himself, he didn’t particularly feel any strong sentiments towards Western dragons. In his heart, he still regarded dragons as China’s divine beasts—noble, elegant, inviolable.

Jian Sheng looked at his brother’s expression and asked, “Brother, what’s wrong?”

Jian Luo turned to his younger brother again and found that his reaction was more accepting than his own, almost as if it were perfectly natural!

Jian Luo cleared his throat awkwardly, unsure how to express his current emotions. “Nothing, really.”

Lu Shifeng asked, “Do you think there’s a problem with my proposed solution?”

Upon hearing this, Jian Luo looked up and unexpectedly met the calm gaze of those blood-red eyes. Marshal Lu’s eyes were as serene as water, but Jian Luo inexplicably felt a tightening in his chest. It was like an instinctual feeling one might get when a small animal senses danger, as if one wrong word might result in an immediate consequence.

Seemingly understanding his thoughts, Lu Shifeng said, “We do not initiate aggression against others, but…”

Silence filled the room.

“All malevolent coveters,” Lu Shifeng’s voice carried a millennia-old icy chill, “shall perish.”

A chill ran down Jian Luo’s spine, freezing him in place.

Jian Luo hesitated for a moment, pursed his lips, and began to ponder. Finally, he said, “What about the people of the Kars tribe? They have been quite hospitable to us. If there’s no more Wushi…”

Lu Shifeng replied, “The Kars tribe values loyalty and righteousness. In times of chaos, heroes arise. The fluctuation of Witch stone presents an opportune moment for them to stabilize the situation. As for whether they can seize this opportunity…”

Jian Luo couldn’t help but sweat nervously.

Secretary Jin added from the side, “That’s up to them. We won’t exterminate them outright, provided that Kars can demonstrate their value and the necessity of this planet’s existence.”

Jian Luo was now fully attuned to the Dragon Clan’s line of thought.

He could even say, “Let me consider this further. I believe there are many valuable herbs on this planet that are worth studying. Moreover, if this planet can nurture Wushi, its geographical environment may have irreplaceable qualities.”

No one dared to interrupt in such matters.

Lu Shifeng was quite satisfied with Jian Luo’s remarks. He said, “If you like, you can keep it.”

“…”

No, I’m seriously discussing the logic with you!

Lu Shifeng said, “There’s nothing else. Rest up, we’ll set off tomorrow, and we’ll be home soon.”

Jian Luo replied, “Okay.”

Since Lu Shifeng had just returned and had many matters to attend to, Jian Luo didn’t want to disturb him at work. He returned with his younger brother, Jian Sheng. On the way, Jian Sheng walked beside Jian Luo without asking much, simply mentioning the recent changes on the Dark Star:

“The news has been globally blocked to prevent public panic.”

“But the Emperor is quite angry and has issued a wanted order for Silver Gray.”

“Everything else is fine. Thanks to your efforts, societal acceptance towards humans has increased, and there are even human names on many job postings under various races.”

After a pause,

Jian Sheng lowered his head. “It’s because of you that I had the chance to enter the Phoenix Platform.”

Jian Luo glanced at him and saw him unable to lift his head. He spoke, “No, I think if you could enter, it’s because you have the ability.”

“You were never inferior to anyone.” Jian Luo patted his shoulder. “Without racial discrimination, you simply obtained equal opportunities for competition like everyone else. I believe our teacher wouldn’t favorably open doors for anyone; surely, Jian Sheng, you also have your own strengths.”

Jian Sheng looked slightly surprised and lifted his head. He pursed his lips, suppressing his soaring ambitions. “Brother, do you really think so?”

Jian Luo nodded without hesitation. “Yes, and besides, weren’t you the class monitor back in school? The teacher also praised your excellent grades. Even without my connections, I believe you’ll shine brightly in the future.”

Jian Sheng’s eyes welled up slightly.

In reality, even if he didn’t intentionally listen, he could sense from others’ gazes that they thought he had only gotten opportunities through Jian Luo, believing him to be worthless. But he was still just a teenage boy; emotions came and went quickly. He said, “Brother, don’t worry, I won’t embarrass you!”

Jian Luo ruffled his brother’s head. “I was going to say not to put too much pressure on yourself, but since you’ve chosen to go there, you must bear the responsibility yourself. Don’t just idle away your time; do things seriously. You represent not just yourself but the entire human race, you know?”

Jian Sheng nodded. “I know.”

Jian Luo smiled and said, “Don’t think I’m nagging, okay?”

“How could I!” Jian Sheng looked at Jian Luo, suddenly a bit shy. “I’ve always admired you.”

Jian Luo was taken aback, laughing and crying, “Admiring me isn’t a good idea. Don’t follow in my footsteps.”

In truth, he felt guilty.

Dark Star was treacherous, and he himself didn’t know if he could protect himself, let alone others he might involve.

Because they were human, a ridiculed species, every action of theirs would be magnified. To wear the crown, one must bear its weight. Behind the glamour and splendor, there was always a lot of helplessness. He hadn’t wanted his family to experience these feelings so soon, but the world moved in its own way.

Back in the room from outside.

When they entered, Jian Luo hadn’t expected so many people inside—doctors in white coats standing by the bed, seemingly discussing something with Su Liang.

Jian Luo frowned. “What are you doing?”

The doctors turned around, and one woman, somewhat familiar to Jian Luo, approached him. “Luo Luo, you’re back. Your mother isn’t cooperating with us.”

Jian Luo walked over, finding all three dragons cuddled in Su Liang’s arms, who was alertly watching the others. She told Jian Luo, “Luo Luo, they want to take the children away.”

Jian Luo turned to the doctor.

The doctor cleared her throat. “I just explained. We’re only taking the children for a check-up. Since you’re here now, it’s a good opportunity for you to get checked too, Luo Luo.”

With Jian Luo’s return, the three dragonlings, who had been timid a moment ago, now seemed to find a sudden support. Long Aotian crawled up onto Jian Luo’s shoulder, scales bristling all over. He let out a fierce cry at the doctor.

Very fierce.

Extremely fierce.

The doctor remained expressionless and continued to Jian Luo, “This was also ordered by the Marshal.”

Jian Luo patted Long Aotian’s head. “I’ll call him.”

The doctor hesitated for a moment before nodding. “Okay, go ahead. We’ll wait outside.”

“Alright.”

After everyone left, Jian Luo sat by the bedside. He messaged Lu Shifeng, but instead of Lu Shifeng answering, it was Secretary Jin who picked up. She whispered, “Hey, Luo Luo, we’re in a meeting here. You can tell me what you need, and I’ll relay it to the Marshal.”

Jian Luo paused. “About the check-up… was it arranged by him?”

Secretary Jin hesitated, remembering the matter. “Yes, you can rest assured. It’s just a routine check-up.”

“I see.”

He hung up the phone.

Su Liang looked worried beside him. “Luo Luo, shall Mom go with you?”

“No need, Mom. Just rest here. I’ll take them over.” Jian Luo didn’t want Su Liang to see those things. “I often get check-ups; it’ll be over quickly.”

Su Liang noticed Jian Luo’s troubled expression.

Jian Luo hugged all three dragons without saying anything and left. He told the doctors at the door, “Let’s go.”

The doctors breathed a sigh of relief when they saw him cooperate, especially since the dragonlings were so hostile towards them. If they didn’t cooperate, they wouldn’t know what to do.

The three dragonlings were silent on the way. They were very intelligent. Normally, when they did something wrong at home, a slight frown from their father let them know he was upset. This time, Jian Luo’s mood was unusually heavy, and they, too, sensed it keenly.

His younger brother and sister usually slept in Jian Luo’s pockets at home. Now, they were alertly nestled in Jian Luo’s arms. Even Long Aotian, who was usually carefree, sensed that something was wrong and tried to please Jian Luo by nuzzling his cheek.

Jian Luo turned his head and stroked its head gently. “When we get back, Dad will make milk pudding for you.”

Long Aotian understood, purring happily and contentedly.

Finally, they arrived at the examination room.

The doctor came over to take the dragonlings, but they were very wary of strangers. When the doctor reached out, Long Aotian directly opened its mouth and snapped at her. The doctor withdrew her hand, and Long Zhenren was still hanging onto it, flapping in the air.

Jian Luo smiled wryly. “Come down, come down.”

The doctors were startled. They hadn’t expected the little dragon to be so fierce. One of them said, “Should we sedate it, or else it will be difficult to examine?”

Jian Luo hugged Long Aotian back, feeling sorry immediately at the thought of it getting an injection. “No need to sedate it. It didn’t mean to. Whatever you need to check, I’ll hold it down.”

Long Aotian hid in Jian Luo’s arms as soon as he returned, acting timid like a scared dragon.

The doctor hesitated for a moment, then finally said, “Alright then.”

Despite this, the unavoidable suffering began with a full-body scan. Long Aotian absolutely refused to enter what looked like a closed container. It took Jian Luo half a day of coaxing with snacks before he behaved a bit better.

The doctor said, “Please step back, we’re going to start the scan.”

Jian Luo took a few steps back, holding his younger siblings. The scanner in front of them powered on, causing the temperature inside the container to rise and the lights to brighten. Long Aotian had never experienced anything like this before, especially in such a confined space, which heightened his panic. Suddenly, he didn’t want snacks anymore. The little dragon began frantically searching for an exit, occasionally bumping the glass with his horns, accompanied by distressed cries.

Jian Luo stood beside them, his heart wrenching with worry.

His younger sister crawled out from his arms. The Little Silver Dragon had always been quite intelligent. She looked at Jian Luo with damp eyes, as if she had something to say.

Jian Luo snapped out of his thoughts, lowering his head and speaking gently, “What’s wrong?”

“Dad,” Little Silver Dragon whispered softly, “I don’t want to be here. I want to go home.”

Chapter 135 – The Graceful Ending

Chapter 135 – The Graceful Ending

Jian Luo’s gaze fell not far away.

About ten meters from where he stood, Su Liang was there. She didn’t seem to have changed much since he left—dressed plainly, hair neatly arranged, exuding a gentle demeanor. When their eyes met, unexpectedly, she was the first to wipe her face.

Jian Luo was momentarily stunned, then walked over with a wry smile, “Mom.”

As he approached, he noticed his younger brother was there too. In the past few days, his brother seemed to have grown taller, losing some of his childishness. When he saw Jian Luo, his eyes welled up slightly.

Su Liang embraced Jian Luo and sobbed, “Luo Luo!”

Jian Luo was initially composed, but her tears made his nose tingle. He quickly said, “Alright, alright, Mom. There are so many people here, let’s not embarrass ourselves.”

Su Liang sniffled and wiped her tears, then gently touched Jian Luo’s face. “Look at you, you’ve become so thin.”

Jian Luo touched his nose. “It’s alright, actually the food has been good.”

With daily feasts of fish and meat, plus Lu Shifeng bringing back fresh winter fruits every day, life was surprisingly enjoyable. He even thought he might have gained weight, never expecting to be seen as thin enough to elicit tears.

Su Liang’s tears threatened to fall again. “You always make me worry…”

On board the warship, surrounded by strangers, the dragon cub in his pocket finally couldn’t stay still. But Jian Luo wouldn’t let it out, afraid of his father’s reprimand.

“Chirp.”

The cub’s tender cry echoed in the cabin.

Long Ao Tian anxiously howled, his voice not loud but clearly heard by nearby dragons, especially by Jin, the secretary behind them. In an instant, Jian Luo felt as if he could be burned through by intense scrutiny.

He cleared his throat and glanced at Lu Shifeng.

Lu Shifeng said, “Let it out.”

Only then did Jian Luo lower his head and said, “Come out, but don’t wander around.”

The first to peek out was Long Ao Tian, slowly revealing his horns and head. His bright red eyes surveyed the new surroundings with vigilance and curiosity. Clutching Jian Luo’s pocket, his head swiveled around.

Secretary Jin gasped. She hadn’t expected it to be a pure-blooded dragon, a miniature figurine of the Marshal, so cute when shrunken down.

Nearby soldiers on duty also fixed their gaze on the cub. It was the first real flesh-and-blood dragon cub in centuries, healthy, lively, with the blood of dragons flowing through it—the hope of the world, destined for boundless love.

“Chirp.”

Another hope for the world emerged.

The black dragon cub, Long Ba Tian, displeased at being stepped on by his brother, swiftly climbed onto Jian Luo’s shoulder and settled down calmly, even more composed than Long Ao Tian.

Jian Luo brought out the quietest sister, “Feeling cramped?”

Su Liang, standing opposite, was already dumbfounded, eyes fixed on the three little dragons. They were barely the size of Jian Luo’s palm, but they were stunning—their scales shimmering under the ship’s lights, lively eyes, agile movements. Despite their small stature, they seemed to possess immense potential.

Seeing Su Liang’s interest, Jian Luo smiled, “Would you like to touch them?”

Su Liang hesitated, somewhat fearful of dragons, but unexpectedly fond of the three little cubs before her. “May I?”

Jian Luo nodded, “Of course.”

He gently lifted the sister. Among the three, she was the most reclusive, rarely interacting with others, cold towards everything, yet incredibly intelligent and quick to learn.

But—

Her temperament was stubborn.

Jian Luo worried she might sour Su Liang’s mood. He contemplated pulling the sociable Long Ao Tian down, but the sister hesitated only briefly, sniffed Su Liang’s hand, then slowly crouched into her palm.

The silver dragon cub looked into Su Liang’s tear-stained face. Just when everyone tensed up, she spoke, “Not anymore.”

Her tender voice sent shivers down everyone’s spine.

Jian Luo suddenly felt a foreboding sense rise within him. After her remark about “your dad is so silly,” he suspected this stubborn girl was about to stir up trouble again.

Sure enough, Su Liang asked, “What?”

The sister added, “We’ll talk about it later.”

Dead silence enveloped the scene.

Jian Luo’s head buzzed. Under pressure, he hurriedly pulled the stubborn girl back and placed Long Ao Tian back into Su Liang’s hands, awkwardly laughing, “Haha, she just learned to speak and isn’t very fluent yet. Don’t take it to heart.”

The black dragon cub remained silent. In its eyes, it had already completed the task of comforting someone, just as Dad comforted Dad.

Long Ao Tian in Su Liang’s hands was a bit confused.

Jian Luo poked its back, “Say hello to Grandma, quickly.”

The black cub remained unmoved like a mountain. It sat in Su Liang’s palm for a while. Su Liang cautiously touched its horn, then smiled gently, “So adorable.”

Long Ao Tian happily nuzzled Su Liang’s hand, swaying to his feet. He looked at Su Liang and called out, “Daddy.”

Silence once again fell over the surroundings.

Su Liang’s expression froze on the spot, dumbstruck, while Long Ao Tian felt quite accomplished and called out again, “Daddy.”

Su Liang was so startled that her hands almost trembled.

The dragons around all turned their heads towards them. Some couldn’t help but smirk, while others anticipated Lu Shifeng’s reaction.

Jian Luo thought the same. He looked up at Lu Shifeng, but quicker than him, Lu Shifeng had already walked over. With one hand, he lifted Long Ao Tian as if he were picking up a little chick. The black cub suddenly panicked. The familiar grip and actions were a prelude to getting scolded again, and it whimpered and squeaked in protest.

Jian Luo quickly intervened to rescue his son. “Hey, it’s alright, it didn’t mean any harm.”

Lu Shifeng glanced at Long Ao Tian.

The black cub wilted and let out a disgruntled sound, obediently settling on Lu Shifeng’s shoulder. This carefree demeanor was fully inherited from Jian Luo. Soon, forgetting the pain of the past, it began to focus its gaze on Jian Sheng.

Jian Sheng shyly smiled at it.

Long Ao Tian chirped like a chatterbox. If not for its dad being present, it would probably have rushed over to Jian Sheng to chat.

Lu Shifeng said to Jian Luo, “Are you hungry?”

Jian Luo snapped out of his thoughts. “Oh… um, a bit.”

“Let’s go.” Lu Shifeng turned around. “Dinner is ready for you.”

Jian Luo instantly felt delighted. Despite everything else, the food on this planet was a bit bland. When he saw crayfish on the table, hot pot, and various dishes personally prepared by Su Liang, Jian Luo was almost moved to tears.

No more words needed—he was home!

After dinner and cleaning up, Jian Luo was led to his own rest room. He had barely sat down when he heard voices outside.

Secretary Jin said, “Luo Luo, Wenya and her group are here.”

Jian Luo was surprised. “So soon?”

“Yeah,” Secretary Jin said, “Wenya wants to see you.”

Jian Luo hesitated for a moment. The child on the bed was already asleep, and Su Liang had been helping to take care of him. Seeing Jian Luo wanting to leave, she said, “Go ahead, Mom will watch over him here.”

Jian Luo nodded.

He stepped out of the room, and Jian Sheng was at the door. “Brother, I’ll accompany you.”

Jian Luo wanted to refuse initially but thought it might be a chance for the child to grow. He said, “Alright.”

As they approached, everyone in the hall had already taken their places. Just before they entered, they heard the voice of the Grand Marshal not far away: “We will not agree to this!”

Lu Shifeng sat at the top. Seeing Jian Luo arrive, he straightened up a bit from his initially relaxed posture and said to Jian Luo, “Come over and sit.”

Jian Luo walked over with his younger brother and sat down.

The Grand Marshal said, “Our Beast God cannot be violated. I will not allow you to relocate the Witchstone Mine beneath the Beast God Mountain.”

Lu Shifeng remained calm. “You want dragon scales.”

The Grand Marshal’s eyes flickered with hesitation before he said, “And so?”

“I can give them to you.” Lu Shifeng spoke calmly. “Although dragon scales are precious, dragons shed scales annually. Giving you one wouldn’t hurt.”

The Grand Marshal and Wenya below both looked up.

A faint smile played on Lu Shifeng’s lips. “The condition is to exchange for the Witchstone Mine beneath your control. Agreed?”

The hall fell silent for a long moment.

The Grand Marshal said, “Will you really give them to us? I need to see the dragon scales before handing over the key to the Beast God Mountain.”

“Of course.” Lu Shifeng tapped his fingertips lightly. “Secretary Jin, fetch them.”

Secretary Jin acknowledged and took out a box, handing it to the person below, and added, “Dragon scales are very precious. After ingestion, they can drive away illnesses and keep you forever young. Only one scale can be used by each person, understand?”

The Grand Marshal took the box, finding two scales inside.

Secretary Jin smiled, “Because Mrs. Wenya has been taking care of Luo Luo in the village, one scale is a gift.”

Wenya quickly added, “Exactly! I said it, too. You can’t be so stingy!”

After speaking, Wenya looked at Jian Luo. Seeing Jian Luo in his new and comfortable-looking clothes, her eyes showed a hint of jealousy. Clearly, Jian Luo used to wear coarse fabric, and even his food and living conditions were inferior to hers. How could she be better than Jian Luo…

Lu Shifeng said, “Escort the guests out.”

The two people left with the dragon scales, very satisfied.

After they left, Jian Luo curiously looked at Lu Shifeng. “Did you just give them away like that?”

“We had the Witchstone sent for assay recently. This ore is indeed very precious and rare. The reason it hasn’t been detected by the Dark Star Detector is because of that Beast God statue.”

Jian Luo asked, “So once we get the key, we can use it?”

This time, Lu Shifeng didn’t answer. Jian Sheng next to him spoke up, “It should be a kind of inheritance. Some races do have gods, and the inheritance of gods is very important. For example, Witchstone is their treasure, and only those who obtain the inheritance can mine it.”

Jian Luo was surprised. “How do you know?”

Jian Sheng was a bit shy, but he still said, “I passed the Phoenix Tower exam and am now an intern academician there.”

???

Jian Luo was dumbfounded. He didn’t know his little brother was so capable.

Lu Shifeng said, “That’s how it is.”

Jian Luo nodded and asked, “So, is giving them the scales considered an equivalent exchange?”

Lu Shifeng looked at Jian Luo, his crimson eyes suddenly making Jian Luo uneasy. Just as Jian Luo felt a drumming in his heart, Lu Shifeng’s lips curled into a meaningful smile. “Of course.”

Jian Luo felt a chill down his spine for no apparent reason.

Secretary Jin interjected, “Dragon scales only have healing effects on children. If adults who are not ill consume them, their blood and skin will also exhibit the medicinal properties of dragon scales.”

Jian Luo was taken aback.

“The Witch stone indeed has purifying and dispelling properties for impurities.” Secretary Jin continued, “Now that we have the rights to mine it, we can relocate Mount Beast God back to our affiliated star. For now, the plan is to place Mount Beast God on Earth.”

Jian Luo widened his eyes again. “But what about them?”

“We did not coerce this transaction,” Secretary Jin said professionally. “However, their disappearance might lead to polluted air, outbreaks of plague, and viruses…”

At this point, Secretary Jin paused and smiled. “Well, as Madam Wen said, with ample blood, one shouldn’t be stingy.”

Author’s note: Well, we won’t let the tribe perish; Earth’s development also needs some labor, right… (Not really)

Chapter 134 – Surprise!

Chapter 134 – Surprise!

The room was eerily silent.

After a long pause, Lu Shifeng said, “We’ll talk about it later.”

Jian Luo had a feeling it wasn’t an illusion; Lu Shifeng’s eyes seemed less calm than usual, maybe even a bit evasive. This was unprecedented, especially for the adult version of Lu Shifeng.

Oddly enough, Jian Luo smiled, sensing that missing this chance might mean waiting a long time. He decided to push a little, “Say it now.”

Lu Shifeng’s grip on Jian Luo’s arm tightened, showing he was a bit nervous.

Jian Luo was enjoying himself, thinking how rare it was to see Lu Shifeng like this. This moment could be legendary, a scene to remember on Dark Star. Under Jian Luo’s gaze, Lu Shifeng’s eyes shifted away, clearly recalling those cringe-worthy statements:

“The child can’t be mine.”

“You should be more virtuous.”

“I think…”

Seeing Jian Luo’s triumphant expression, Lu Shifeng let him laugh for a while before saying, “I’m your brother?”

Jian Luo’s smile froze.

“The child is Silver Gray’s?” Lu Shifeng repeated Jian Luo’s words, “Our pet name is ‘Your dad is dumb’?”

“…”

Embarrassment crept over Jian Luo.

Just moments ago, he was in control. Now it turned into a mutual embarrassment session.

Jian Luo coughed lightly, “Maybe we should see how things are outside. What do you think?”

Lu Shifeng raised an eyebrow, “Really?”

He slowly released Jian Luo’s arm and asked, “Didn’t you want to hear it now?”

“… I suddenly don’t want to hear it anymore.”

Lu Shifeng smiled and looked at Jian Luo with affection.

Jian Luo, feeling anger rise, hugged the three little ones nearby, determined not to let them learn bad things from Lu Shifeng!

Outside

The fire and smoke continued.

Some remaining beasts still roamed the village, the sight was shocking. Lu Shifeng told Jian Luo to hold the three children tightly, “Wait for me.”

Jian Luo didn’t know what he planned to do but instinctively trusted him, “Okay, go ahead.”

As soon as he spoke, Lu Shifeng vanished.

The three little ones noticed Lu Shifeng before Jian Luo did. The sister’s childish voice stood out amidst the fire and chaos, “Daddy.”

Jian Luo looked up.

In the sky, a black dragon’s silhouette was prominent against the orange-red sky. The black dragon moved gracefully through the clouds, and a distant, resonant dragon roar echoed from above, making everything on the ground seem small and fragile.

Long Aotian suddenly climbed onto Jian Luo’s shoulder and screeched.

Unlike his usual delicate cries, this screech came from deep within, a roar of blood and heritage, unimpeded by age.

Jian Luo looked down and saw Long Batian and his sister also had serious expressions.

“It’s raining!”

A shout came from not far away.

The sky gradually darkened with clouds, and the black dragon seemed to dominate the entire gloomy sky.

“Roar!”

The second dragon roar resounded, and the panicked beasts in the village stopped as if controlled by machinery. Many people in the village were saved. The pouring rain extinguished the flames, and many people knelt on the ground, praying to the sky. At that moment, Lu Shifeng was their god.

Jian Luo watched quietly.

Until he heard Long Aotian’s excited screech, he turned to see Lu Shifeng standing under the eaves.

Lu Shifeng asked, “Did I scare you?”

Jian Luo gently shook his head.

Long Aotian, despite his injured wing, was restless, jumping up and down excitedly, trying to roll in Lu Shifeng’s arms.

Lu Shifeng gave him a cold glance, “Behave.”

Long Aotian’s eyes, just like Lu Shifeng’s red gemstone-like eyes, looked pitifully wet. Hearing this, he rubbed against Jian Luo, hoping for support.

Jian Luo picked him up and put him in his pocket, “Be good, don’t make trouble.”

“…”

Long Aotian was disappointed.

The village had slowly recovered after a simple cleanup. The wild beasts that had attacked were now arranged outside the village by Lu Shifeng.

The chief came over personally to express gratitude, saying, “Casualties weren’t particularly severe. Most of the able-bodied men happened to be hunting in the mountains, while the women and children were cultivating honey-bearing plants on the other side of the mountain. Fortunately, there weren’t many people in the village at the time, and the beasts mostly attacked our domesticated animals, so human casualties were minimal.”

Jian Luo breathed a sigh of relief.

Lu Shifeng asked, “The reason the wild beasts entered the village?”

When facing Lu Shifeng, the chief seemed like a junior employee reporting to his superior. He said, “It seems the witch stones suddenly malfunctioned.”

Lu Shifeng furrowed his brows slightly, his voice carrying authority, “Seems?”

Just two words, yet they were like a knife, causing cold sweat to instantly bead on the chief’s forehead. After hesitating briefly, the chief continued, “It shouldn’t happen suddenly. Our witch stones have been functioning for centuries; it’s impossible for them to malfunction suddenly. If our village’s witch stones failed, then other villages would surely be affected…”

Lu Shifeng said, “I observed from above; other tribes are intact.”

Silence fell over the scene.

Suddenly, someone said, “Chief, the Military Leader has been here. It must have been him!”

Lu Shifeng looked at Jian Luo.

Jian Luo leaned close and briefly recounted the Military Leader’s request for dragon scales, without embellishment, just stating the facts.

The atmospheric pressure seemed to drop another notch. They had arrived on this planet on a rainy day, and today, torrents of rain fell again. Lu Shifeng turned his head to glance at the rain curtain outside, where animal blood mingled with rainwater, and the ruined walls of the village formed frozen images in his crimson eyes.

After a pause,

Lu Shifeng said, “Let him come find me.”

The chief hesitated, “We just tried contacting the Military Leader, but couldn’t reach him. He should be at the Beast God’s domain, which is sacred and generally inaccessible. The last time the Military Leader went into seclusion was ten years ago.”

Lu Shifeng raised an eyebrow, “So?”

Other villagers couldn’t bear it:

“Chief, the Military Leader disregarded our lives and deaths. What are you hesitating for?”

“Yeah, let’s go find him directly and get some answers.”

“Back then, he gave away the richest forest to other tribes, completely forgetting how you risked everything for him!”

Even the woman beside the chief, who lived next to Jian Luo, spoke up, “For all these years, they’ve always feared us, afraid we might turn against them. To restrain us, they gave us this dangerous forest. Every year, how many of Kars Tribe’s fine men must sacrifice? We’ve endured silently, but he keeps pushing…”

The chief hesitated for a moment, his expression gradually hardening, “But if we do this, our tribe might face attacks from other tribes on this continent in the future. Everyone…”

The chief glanced at everyone.

The people said, “At this point, how much worse can our days get?”

That statement seemed to finally resolve the chief. After a moment of contemplation, he finally said, “Let’s go find him.”

The entire tribe erupted in cheers.

It was like restrained revelry, like a cry to themselves.

Jian Luo glanced at Lu Shifeng.

Lu Shifeng said, “Give him one last night. I want to see him tomorrow morning.”

The chief hesitated, “We just worried we might not reach him. The two largest tribes there are very powerful, and what if they block us?”

Lu Shifeng reassured him, “I’ll send someone with you.”

“If he doesn’t come,” Lu Shifeng looked dispassionately at the chief, his words cutting, “then don’t bother coming.”

Those words seemed to carry endless chill, sending shivers down everyone’s spine.

In the hearts of the chief and the people, there was also resentment towards the Military Leader. After a brief tidy-up, they left, leaving the entire village almost empty.

Jian Luo asked Lu Shifeng, “Should we stay here tonight? It seems inhabiting here is no longer possible.”

Lu Shifeng said, “Let’s stay on the warship.”

“Warship… a warship!” Jian Luo widened his eyes, his heartbeat suddenly irregular. “You mean to say… they’ve come?”

Lu Shifeng nodded.

Before Jian Luo could fully react, he heard a familiar voice nearby. Secretary Jin, in a neatly pressed military uniform with the Dragon Clan emblem on her shoulder, waved at them. “We’re here to pick you up!”

Following Secretary Jin were several Dragon Clan soldiers standing in formation. They stood tall and straight, all dressed uniformly in military attire. This scene inexplicably reminded Jian Luo of when Lu Shifeng had visited him at home shortly after he became pregnant.

That day, the rain was just as heavy.

And life had changed from that day onward.

The other members of the tribe also looked somewhat fearful upon seeing the Dragon Clan soldiers. They were a small planet and had never truly seen Dragon Clan soldiers before, leaving them momentarily at a loss for words.

Lu Shifeng handed Jian Luo an umbrella and instructed Secretary Jin, “Send a team with them to meet the Military Leader. They must return alive.”

Secretary Jin nodded. “Understood.”

Turning back, she smiled at Jian Luo. “Luo Luo, long time no see.”

Jian Luo smiled back. “Long time indeed.”

The three little ones in his pocket couldn’t contain their curiosity any longer, but with the rain, Jian Luo didn’t let them out. Secretary Jin glanced around, clearly also curious about the little ones.

Lu Shifeng said, “Let’s head back.”

Jian Luo nodded at Secretary Jin and walked towards the warship together. Not far away, the warship gleamed with metallic luster in the rain. It was something he was very familiar with, yet now it felt somewhat unfamiliar.

The gangway of the warship descended, and Secretary Jin said, “Please, come aboard.”

Looking at the steps beneath his feet, Jian Luo suddenly felt a surge of complex emotions. From today onwards, stepping onto these stairs meant a different, another kind of life for him. His heart was a swirl of mixed feelings.

Lu Shifeng’s hand reached around from behind, his hand broader and warmer than Jian Luo’s, instantly dispelling much of Jian Luo’s nebulous unease. He held Jian Luo’s hand. “Let’s go.”

Jian Luo looked up at him.

Lu Shifeng said, “It’s slippery. Let me lead you.”

He walked ahead, as if shielding Jian Luo from all the wind and rain, guiding him step by slippery step. Slowly, Jian Luo smiled and softly asked, “Will you always be with me?”

The wind and rain were too loud, his voice too soft.

Lu Shifeng turned his head. “What?”

“I’m a bit hungry,” Jian Luo smiled broadly. “Let’s hurry.”

They returned to the warship, where the temperature was comfortable. Secretary Jin approached Jian Luo and whispered, “We’ve prepared a surprise for you.”

Jian Luo asked, “What surprise?”

“You’ll be very happy,” Secretary Jin said, “It was also ordered by the Marshal when he contacted us.”

Jian Luo smiled, about to express his excitement, but as he turned his head, he saw something not far away and froze on the spot, dumbfounded, unable to speak for a moment.

Chapter 133 – Dragon Scales

Chapter 133 – Dragon Scales

Jian Luo’s expression immediately became guarded, his muscles tensing defensively as he feared the man might force his way in.

But the Military Leader remained calm. “I need a dragon scale to save my son’s life.”

Jian Luo’s hand clenched so tightly it turned white. He didn’t want to listen or talk anymore. The world’s sufferings were numerous, but he couldn’t save everyone. He didn’t have the power to be a savior. All he wanted was to protect his children.

Jian Luo steadied his thoughts and said to the man outside, “I refuse.”

Long Aotian tried to poke his head out, but Jian Luo pushed him back. “I might have had some interest in your stones, but that was it. My interest ends there. You must understand how vital dragon scales are to a dragon, especially since my children are young. They can’t endure this.”

He paused, then looked at the door with a lowered voice. “If you want to negotiate, talk to the Dragon Clan.”

The term “Dragon Clan” was not just a term; it was a powerful deterrent.

One of the most formidable races in the universe, it was said that a regular elite team from the Dragon Clan could match an army of a million. This was no exaggeration.

As expected, the Military Leader fell silent.

Jian Luo continued, “My brother will be back soon. Leave now, and I will pretend this never happened. If you insist, I promise you that if you harm my children, your child won’t survive either.”

His voice was as cold as frost. It was not a threat but a final ultimatum. Although he was a fragile human, no one doubted he was serious.

Finally, the Military Leader’s voice came through, “Is there no room for negotiation?”

Jian Luo remained vigilant. “None.”

Outside, the Military Leader straightened up and said, “Very well, sorry to have disturbed you.”

With that, silence returned. Jian Luo, though still tense, began to relax. Even so, he did not dare to check the door.

After about ten minutes, the voice of a neighboring woman came from the yard, “Luo Luo, are you okay?”

Jian Luo came to his senses and moved his stiff body to the window, where he saw the woman standing there. “Are you alright?”

Jian Luo, through the glass, asked, “Did he leave?”

The woman nodded, “Yes, just a moment ago. We were all worried. The Military Leader is unpredictable and protected by the beast god; usually, no one dares to provoke him.”

Jian Luo finally let out a sigh of relief.

He didn’t want to worry about the Military Leader’s whereabouts; he just wanted to safely endure his last few days on this planet and return home with his cubs.

The woman assured, “It’s okay now. Don’t worry. If the Military Leader tries anything, we’ll protect you. You’re our tribe’s benefactor. If something happens to you, we won’t stand by and do nothing.”

Jian Luo smiled. “Thank you.”

After chatting for a while, Jian Luo relaxed more. It was almost noon, and Lu Shifeng was due back soon. The thought of this reassured him.

Suddenly—

The ground seemed to shake.

Jian Luo felt the house tremble, and he instinctively looked around, even sensing dust falling.

“Squeak”

The dragon cubs sensed his unease and cried out.

The woman’s voice came from outside, “Luo Luo?”

Jian Luo refocused and asked, “What’s happening? An earthquake?”

“It seems like large beasts are attacking the village.” The woman was also flustered. “It shouldn’t be. We just spread mystical stone powder a few days ago…”

Jian Luo frowned deeply at this.

The woman continued, “Stay inside. We’ll check the perimeter. Most of the men are out hunting, so it might be dangerous outside.”

Jian Luo nodded. “Alright…”

Before he could finish, the woman had already run off. From the window, he saw chaos outside, even some houses on fire. Without the protective barrier of mystical stone powder, the village was vulnerable, becoming a feast for large beasts.

Meanwhile, deep in the mountains, the hunting party was too far away to notice the commotion.

Lu Shifeng suddenly stopped, looking back towards the distant village, his heightened senses picking up the faintest trace of blood.

Someone asked, “Brother Lu, what’s wrong?”

Lu Shifeng didn’t hesitate to head back. “We need to return.”

The others were puzzled. “Why? It’s not time yet.”

Lu Shifeng glanced back, his lips moving slightly. “Something’s happened.”

Back at the village, flames and destruction reigned. When the hunting party returned, they were shocked by the devastation.

Large beasts were still rampaging, destroying houses and fields. Normally, these beasts required many hunters to take down.

But then, a black dragon swooped through the burning village, creating a whirlwind wherever it passed. The beasts were tossed aside, and the dragon’s claws could tear through the strongest shields and lasers in the universe.

While these beasts were formidable to the villagers, they were laughable in front of the dragon. The black dragon’s red eyes reflected the burning village, but its focus was on a single house.

“Bang!”

The door burst open.

The house, where Jian Luo and the cubs were supposed to be, was empty.

Lu Shifeng reverted to his human form, taller and more imposing than before. His presence filled the room, and seeing it empty only heightened his rage.

The sounds of beasts and their defiance outside continued.

This seemed to push Lu Shifeng to the edge. His aura was terrifying, making all life forms stay away.

Even beasts far from the village sensed this, their survival instincts telling them to flee.

“Cheep!”

Just as Lu Shifeng was on the verge of losing his temper, the hatch to the cellar opened, and a little dragon’s head popped out. Long Aotian screeched loudly.

Lu Shifeng glanced over.

Long Aotian was dumbfounded, and so was Marshal Lu. The little dragon was confused because his father suddenly looked different—taller and more muscular, which meant it would hurt more when he got hit.

Long Aotian asked, “Cheep?”

Lu Shifeng walked over and lifted the little dragon with a cold voice, “Why are you screeching?”

Treating the little dragon harshly, he then looked down into the cellar and spoke with a barely noticeable gentleness, “Jian Luo.”

Sure enough, there was some movement below. Jian Luo’s embarrassed voice came up, “Can you help me pull the lid a bit? I think I’m stuck.”

The situation was somewhat comical, but Lu Shifeng’s eyes didn’t show a hint of amusement. He effortlessly opened the lid and pulled Jian Luo and the other two out of the cellar.

Jian Luo was a bit dirty, “I dug this cellar myself when you weren’t around. It was just for fun, and to give them some exercise. Who knew it would actually come in handy? I didn’t dare go out and was afraid something might come in, so I hid quickly…”

As he spoke, he noticed Lu Shifeng had returned to his normal form.

If it were the teenage Lu Shifeng, it wouldn’t be a big deal, but facing the adult Lu Shifeng, with his handsome and mature face and familiar, gentle red eyes, Jian Luo suddenly felt embarrassed and blushed, “So, I must be really dirty now. Don’t look. How are things outside? Is it still dangerous? Are the villagers safe?”

Lu Shifeng said, “Jian Luo.”

Jian Luo paused, “What?”

“You’re shaking.”

Lu Shifeng quietly observed him. Although Jian Luo was talking incessantly and seemed calm and composed, it was clear he was trembling uncontrollably, even his hands were shaking.

“If you’re scared,” Lu Shifeng said, staring at him, “you don’t have to force yourself.”

Jian Luo froze. The room fell silent for a moment. Then, his smile gradually faded, and his mouth formed a straight line.

Just as Lu Shifeng thought he might get angry, Jian Luo suddenly burst into uncontrollable sobs, throwing himself into Lu Shifeng’s arms, “Of course I’m scared! Who wouldn’t be? Those beasts are terrifying, even more than the Military Leader! Why did it take you so long to come back? I was so scared! Who can endure this? Giving birth to a child for you is too much! I had to outwit and outfight that scoundrel Silver Gray before giving birth. I had no experience! You don’t know how scared I was. You got healed and forgot, but I suffered…”

The three little ones watched in stunned silence as their father cried, sitting in a row without daring to make a sound.

Lu Shifeng quietly waited for Jian Luo to finish crying before saying, “It won’t happen again.”

Jian Luo wiped his tears, feeling much better after venting. He nodded, but before he could relax, Lu Shifeng said, “There’s something I need to explain to you.”

Jian Luo asked, “What is it?”

“My memories from my teenage years, I have them,” Lu Shifeng told him. “I haven’t forgotten.”

The room fell silent again.

Jian Luo wiped his tears and looked at Lu Shifeng in a daze, recalling everything they had done recently:

#Lu Shifeng doesn’t recognize the child#

#He put a green hat on himself#

#He lied to Lu Shifeng that the child belonged to Silver Gray#

#He fabricated that Lu Shifeng was his brother#

And so on…

Words couldn’t describe the shame he felt at that moment.

Jian Luo mustered his courage and asked, “So, what’s your evaluation of that time?”

The author has something to say: Lu Shifeng: “Don’t ask, ask again later.”
