Chapter 25

Because it was a Saturday that was hard to come by, Zhan Weiyang did not study by himself in the evening. Instead, he took a shower early and stayed in Pei Qing’s room playing mobile games with Chen Youyou.

Pei Qing was reading next to him, and the two of them didn’t interfere with each other.

When Pei Qing was about to go to bed, Zhan Weiyang hurriedly said goodbye to Chen Youyou, put his cell phone on the bedside table, and lay down on his own half of the bed.

He closed his eyes and waited until Pei Qing turned off the desk lamp. Just when he was about to fall asleep, he heard the female voice suddenly ringing in the air, “The relationship state has been negatively improved, and 2 points have been deducted. The user’s score today: 38 points.”

Zhan Weiyang was so frightened that his scalp was numb and he opened his eyes.

The room was dark. He was lying on his back and could only vaguely see the outline of the overhead light on the ceiling. He rubbed his fingers uneasily and turned furtively to look at Pei Qing. He saw Pei Qing lying motionless on his side, breathing very shallowly. He didn’t know if he was already asleep or not.

Zhan Weiyang closed his eyes again but found that his mood could not be calmed down. He recalled how he and Chen Youyou found someone to stop Xie Ling today. Although things did not go smoothly according to his original plan, the relationship between him and Xie Ling should not be negatively affected. Moreover, they also sent Chen Youyou to the hospital together. Even if they didn’t give him points, they shouldn’t reduced his points.

He couldn’t figure it out, and his mind, which was not very clear to begin with, became even more confused.

Zhan Weiyang completely lost his sleepiness. He waited for a while and leaned closer to Pei Qing to listen to his breathing. He felt that Pei Qing must have fallen asleep, so he gently lifted the quilt and got out of bed, pulling on his slippers and walking towards the room’s door.

He was very careful when he opened the door. He turned the door handle and made a slight noise. He immediately turned back to look at Pei Qing. When he saw that the figure on the bed was still lying quietly without any movement, he walked out with confidence.

Zhan Weiyang stood in the corridor and first looked back in the direction of Zhan Pengcheng’s room. The door was still closed. He walked over and held the handle. He put his face against the door and stood quietly for a while. He felt that he missed his father. Then he turned around and walked to the other end of the corridor.

He didn’t turn on the lights all the way, and the corridor was dimly lit. Everything could only be seen as a vague outline. When passing the stairs, Zhan Weiyang turned his head and took a look. He always felt that there was something in the shadow, and he immediately trotted nervously all the way until he came to the door leading to the balcony at the end opened the door lock from the inside and walked out.

The balcony was much brighter than the house inside. Not far ahead were the street lights in the community and the cars passing in front of their house. The bright car lights flash past Zhan Weiyang’s face.

Actually, Pei Qing was not asleep either. He felt it when Zhan Weiyang came close to him and listened to his breathing.

Later Pei Qing heard Zhan Weiyang get up and leave the room.

He didn’t know where Zhan Weiyang went, but he just felt strange. He sat up from the bed and heard Zhan Weiyang’s footsteps in the corridor, and then he heard the sound of him opening and locking the door.

Pei Qing got out of bed and followed him out. When he came to the corridor, he saw the door leading to the balcony at the end opened, and a cool breeze blew in from the outside.

Pei Qing walked over gently and saw Zhan Weiyang, with his back to the door, standing straight on the edge of the balcony in the open space between two pots of plants. This open space had been vacated by Zhan Weiyang himself.

At that moment, Pei Qing thought Zhan Weiyang was sleepwalking, and he didn’t even dare to make a sound to disturb him.

But in fact, Zhan Weiyang was not sleepwalking. He was just staring outside the balcony in a daze at the fountain in the middle of the neighbourhood’s garden. There was a circle of yellow lights next to the fountain, which would stay on all night and would not be turned off until dawn. Usually, there were always people playing by the fountain, but only in the dead of night when everything was quiet and no one could be seen.

Zhan Weiyang felt useless, as if no matter what he did, he could not increase his score, but could only watch it decrease day by day until it reached zero on the last day.

He had already found a seat for himself. This was the place with the best view on the balcony. It faced both the fountain in the neighbourhood and the balcony door. He could see people playing outside, as well as his father and Pei Qing passing through the corridor.

If he ended up turning into a plant, he would have put himself here.

But Zhan Weiyang also felt a little melancholy no matter what. Pei Qing would probably not allow him to sleep on his bed anymore, because then his roots would fall off and soil Pei Qing’s bed.

       Zhan Weiyang sighed softly.

At this time, Pei Qing walked up behind him and called out softly, “Zhan Weiyang?”

Zhan Weiyang didn’t hear Pei Qing’s footsteps and was really startled. He turned around quickly and said with a pale face, “Qing ge?”

Only then did Pei Qing confirm that he was not sleepwalking, so he asked, “Why don’t you sleep?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “I came over to take a look.”

“What are you looking at?” Pei Qing had already walked to his side. He looked in the direction of his gaze and saw the softly lit fountain. He also found two swings side by side next to the fountain.

Zhan Weiyang said to him, “Look at my spot.”

“What?” Pei Qing turned her head and lowered her gaze to look at him.

Zhan Weiyang and Pei Qing stood side by side, pointing to the fountain, “Look, you can see the most beautiful part of the community from here.”

Pei Qing hummed and said, “So?”

Zhan Weiyang did not continue to answer him but frowned in confusion. After a while, he stood up on tiptoes and tried to get closer to Pei Qing’s ear, and he said to Pei Qing almost in a breathy voice, “My points are almost all gone.”

It took Pei Qing two or three seconds to realise what Zhan Weiyang meant. In fact, he had almost forgotten what Zhan Weiyang said about point deduction. At that time, he only thought it was nonsense without meaning.

But now Zhan Weiyang was very serious and said in Pei Qing’s ear, “After that I will stay here. You must remember to water me.”

Pei Qing was silent for a while and asked, “Does it mean that you will turn into a plant after your points are deducted?”

Zhan Weiyang looked at him and nodded.

Pei Qing said, “But people will not turn into plants.”

Zhan Weiyang looked at him with a puzzled expression.

Pei Qing continued, “Those are two different creatures and will not change to each other.”

Zhan Weiyang was confused and couldn’t figure it out after thinking for a long time.

The cool wind kept blowing from outside, and Zhan Weiyang suddenly sneezed twice. He sniffed and looked at Pei Qing.

Pei Qing said, “It’s too late. Let’s go back to sleep first.”

Zhan Weiyang wanted to speak, but couldn’t help sneezing again.

This time Pei Qing directly grabbed his wrist, and when he touched Zhan Weiyang’s hand, he realised that his palm was cold, so he couldn’t help but push up the sleeve of his pyjamas and touch Zhan Weiyang’s arm and found that the skin was also very cold.

“Go to sleep,” Pei Qing said, using some force to pull Zhan Weiyang to the corridor, locking the balcony door. Then, he continued to hold his wrist and lead him to the room.

Back in the room, Pei Qing asked Zhan Weiyang to lie down on the bed, pulled the quilt up to cover his neck, pressed the quilt tightly for him, and then returned to his side to sleep.

Zhan Weiyang lay obediently for a while, then stretched out one hand from the quilt, groping towards Pei Qing next to him, and slipped in through the gap under his quilt.

The cold hand touched Pei Qing’s arm.

Pei Qing moved a little but did not push Zhan Weiyang away. He just said, “Still cold?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “En, it won’t be cold soon.”

Pei Qing held Zhan Weiyang’s hand and said, “Go to sleep.”

Zhan Weiyang didn’t know what was wrong with him, but when he felt Pei Qing’s warm palm, he suddenly couldn’t help but feel happy, so happy that he wanted to smile. But he didn’t want to be seen by Pei Qing. Even in the darkness, he still buried his face on the pillow, then carefully inserted five fingers between Pei Qing’s fingers, bent them over and held them tightly to prevent Pei Qing from shaking him off.

Chapter 56 – Chinese Bellflower (2)

Tristana stood on the Crested Ibis and looked anxiously into the distance. After an unknown amount of time, a golden light finally appeared in the dark night sky.

Ishtar’s huge white wings cut through the night like a sharp sword.

“They’re back!” Tristana said excitedly. She couldn’t wait for the other party to get closer, so she drove the Crested Ibis to meet them, opened the hatch and received the two of them in.

The oxygen was thin at high altitude, and Qin Yun was holding Moschery in a panic.

“Call the doctor.” He gasped wearily, “Don’t mind me.”

Tristana looked at the large area of burns on his back with a pale face. Moschery’s dragon eye no longer resembled its original form. Qin Yun stretched out his guiding tendrils to repair the other party’s consciousness cloud. Zhongyan was even more seriously injured. Ishtar knelt next to the giant dragon, and was licking and kissing the other’s scarred giant wings.

When the doctor arrived, Qin Yun had already finished tending. Sentinel had a terrifying recovery ability as long as they were given sufficient rest. Moschery closed his eyes, but Qin Yun knew that he was not asleep, their fingers were tightly intertwined.

After the doctor cleaned the wound, he looked at Qin Yun with some difficulty and deliberated, “The wounds are too deep, and we don’t have the necessary technical conditions here. If we rush back now, perhaps there’s still a chance…”

“No need.” Moschery suddenly interrupted, “I can’t leave Olympus in this situation.”

Qin Yun still didn’t give up, “But…”

Moschery looked at him, “Even if one eye is missing, it will have no impact on life.”

Qin Yun frowned, and Zhongyan seemed to sense something. He stretched out his head and rested it on his guide’s leg. Like Moschery, it only had one intact eye.

“…” Qin Yun sighed and had no choice but to comfort him, “I’ll make you a one-eye patch with rhinestones later.”

The giant dragon was naturally very happy. Regardless of the wounds on its wings, it turned over and exposed its belly to Qin Yun. It circled its tail and wrapped the person in its arms.

The explosions in Olympus did not stop for half an hour. According to Shen Zhuofan’s speculation, the floors of Olympus’ laboratories should be covered with explosives.

“This is also their way of protecting their research results.” Chris regretfully said, “They should have done in-depth research on genetic evolution. It is a pity that it is gone like this.”

“There is nothing regrettable.” Moschery’s expression was indifferent, “The evolutionary theory of Olympus will always go against the evolution of human beings. The consequences of eagerness for success by any means are not something we can afford.”

The Land of Gods had lost its superficial prosperity and mystery, left behind nothing but a myriad of jokes with countless wounds.

Although Lin Dongliang had the impulse to save the remaining laboratories, Moschery’s attitude was indifferent from beginning to end.

“Human development is long, complicated and slow.” Qin Yun looked at Moschery with a smile, “There are no shortcuts in your heart, only balance and constraints.”

Moschery did not retort. His injured eye had been simply treated and half of his face was wrapped in white gauze as he lowered his head to kiss Qin Yun innocently.

“What is more complex than evolution is human emotion.” Moschery said in a low voice, “Adoration, hatred, devotion and reckless determination.”

Qin Yun thought of Bixi. He tightened the Chinese bellflower badge around his neck and said nothing.

Moschery continued, “We are all the same. We love others and we are be loved by others.”

Qin Yun held his hand and put it to his lips, choking with tears as he said, “I love you.”

Moschery turned his face sideways and looked at his guide tenderly with his perfect black eyes, “I love you too.”

The regime of the Land of Gods has completely collapsed, and Moschery took over effortlessly. There was no opposition, no resistance. After losing the so-called protection of the god-level, the elders of Olympus were like scattered sand.

The Emperor built a monument for Helu and Bixi on this ruined wall.

Qin Yun stood in front of the monument and looked at the epitaph written by Moschery—’Love is silence and protection’.

Moschery reached out and rubbed the back of Qin Yun’s head, “We can be buried here when we die in the future.”

Qin Yun nodded, and he couldn’t help but ask, “Have you also thought about our epitaph?”

Moschery didn’t respond. In his mind, epitaphs were meant for others to see, not for oneself.

The Imperial Starship landed on a sand dune not far away. The exhaust gas sprayed out a huge white cloud. Moschery’s thick scarlet cloak was blown up and down, and the high-beam headlights hit the feet of the two.

“Let’s go.” The Emperor stretched out his hand to Qin Yun, “To home.”

The joy of triumph swept across the entire Empire before the Emperor returned. Skarter was not used to it when he was welcomed in the aisle. He couldn’t help complaining to Lin Dongliang, “Not going to be thrown any strange things, right… How come there are no flowers?”

“…” Lin Dongliang, “How could there be such a thing…”

The Royal Guards lined up in a cross formation and waited in front of the palace. Ba Jin couldn’t help crying when he saw Moschery.

“You really don’t take care of yourself.” The old butler cried and complained, “You didn’t even rush back when you were injured.”

His Majesty the Emperor looked impatient, but he restrained himself from losing his temper. However, Qin Yun, on the other hand, felt embarrassed. In a certain sense, failing to protect his Sentinel as a guide could be considered a dereliction of duty.

“I don’t mean to blame you.” Ba Jin turned to comfort him, “His Majesty’s willfulness is a real headache. You have worked really hard.”

       Qin Yun: “…”

Although there were still many follow-up matters waiting to be dealt with in Olympus, Moschery was forced to rest and recuperate, and Lin Dongliang took over the power. Olympus, which was bombed in a mess in a short period of time, could not have other developments and could only reluctantly serve as a fortress or war attraction; although dilapidated, still contained heavy historical significance.

Qin Yun went to the cemetery of Bixi and Helu for the last time. He sowed Chinese Bellflower seeds nearby, but he didn’t know when they would sprout.

The moist wind stirred the dust near the tombstone, and the morning sun slowly rose, its radiance piercing through the thick clouds and falling onto Qin Yun’s shoulders.

Moschery’s dragon eye was not saved after all. When Qin Yun first learned the news, his mood almost hit rock bottom. He patted his cheek to cheer himself up.

“Fortunately, the wound didn’t get infected.” Ba Jin comforted, “The doctor also said that it will not have much impact in future life, so don’t blame yourself too much.”

Qin Yun nodded, took a deep breath and entered the room.

Inside the room, Moschery was half lying on the bed, flipping through a book. He saw Qin Yun and raised an eyebrow. He then closed the page and reached out to him, “Come up and lie down with me.”

Qin Yun walked over, took off his shoes and pants, climbed onto the bed and hugged Moschery’s waist.

The Emperor lowered his head and kissed his forehead.

“Does it still hurt?” Qin Yun muffled his face against the other’s waist and asked in a subdued tone.

Moschery didn’t care much and said, “I don’t feel anything when I’m injured. The Dragon’s Eye is rather special. I can feel its changes, but it’s not well controlled.”

Qin Yun raised his upper body. He stared at the gauze on half of the Emperor’s face for a long time and couldn’t help but reach out and touch it carefully.

Moschery let him touch him for a long time, then said calmly, “Don’t show such an expression as if I’m going to die.”

“…” Qin Yun frowned, “What are you talking about…”

Moschery pinched his chin and shook it, “Don’t worry, I won’t let you become a widow… Things like the dragon eye, if it’s gone, then it’s gone.”

Qin Yun’s complexion still wasn’t great. After thinking for a while, he seemed to have grasped what Moschery meant.

“It’s like a mark, always reminding me of the things I once carried.” Moschery looked at Qin Yun expressionlessly, “But those things are no longer useful to me now.”

In a stable social environment, the existence of so-called ‘gods’ would no longer be needed. Moschery finally achieved what he originally said was a stable land and centralised political power, and the god level has become the goal of legend.

Moschery: “I need to say goodbye to the past.” His palm brushed against the dragon’s eye that no longer exists, “And this is my way of saying goodbye.”

After about a month of recuperation, Moschery finally had his stitches removed. He replaced the original mask with a black eye patch, and Qin Yun put a rhinestone-encrusted one on Zhongyan.

The giant dragon wore a sparkling eyepatch and was so beautiful that it wished it could go to heaven and earth. It posed like a pirate captain in front of the unicorn, staring at the other’s reaction with its remaining intact eye.

       Ishtar: “…”

Zhongyan whistled softly, and it lay on the ground again, resting on its front paws, and slowly shook its tail.

The snow-white unicorn took a few steps forward, gracefully bent its neck, and gently pressed its golden spiral horn against the dragon’s head.

Qin Yun was obviously used to seeing this kind of scene, walked through the atrium and found Moschery in the garden. Several senators gathered around the Emperor, talking excitedly. The latter looked dismissive. Finally, he replied impatiently, “We won’t consider this kind of thing, so there’s no need to mention it again.”

The older man was naturally unwilling to give up just like that, “Now that technology is so advanced, how will you know if you don’t try it? Both Your Majesty and His Highness are in good health and deeply in love. It couldn’t be more fitting. Don’t you want to…”

Before he finished speaking, Moschery suddenly turned his head and looked at Qin Yun, who was standing motionless in the distance.

       Qin Yun: “??”

       Moschery waved to him.

Qin Yun came over, “What are you talking about?”

Seeing a smile on his face, the old man was about to speak but was interrupted by Moschery, “It’s nothing.” He glanced at several elders in a warning manner and pulled Qin Yun to his feet, “I’m tired; go have a rest.”

“…” Qin Yun looked at Moschery with suspicion and fear. He had been tormented by him all night last night and had just regained his strength. His Majesty the Emperor actually had the nerve to tell him that he was tired again?!

“Are you going to go back to bed again?” Qin Yun was taken back to the room with a depressed look on his face, “I don’t want to be unable to get out of bed all day…”

“Shut up.” Moschery pushed the person into the quilt roughly, took off his shoes and lay next to Qin Yun, “I won’t touch you.”

Qin Yun fell asleep nervously, feeling the Emperor’s rhythmic tapping on the blanket, giving him an inexplicable sensation of being comforted like a child…

Just when he was about to fall asleep, Qin Yun suddenly heard Moschery asking nonchalantly in his ear, “Do you want a child?”

“?!” Qin Yun cried out miserably, “Didn’t you say you won’t do it today?!!”

       Moschery: “…”

Qin Yun blinked, with question marks on his face.

Moschery tensed his chin and took a deep breath, “I meant it literally. What are you thinking?!”

Qin Yun was shocked, “G-giving birth to a baby?”

       Moschery: “Hmm-mn.”

“…” Qin Yun thought for a long time, “You or me?”

The author has something to say:
Although the idea of having a child was mentioned, it won’t happen. I’m just bringing it up…

Chapter 54 – (Main Story Finale) Thousand Years

Coming out of the panda exhibit, Song Jun and Xia Hongshen met Long Xing and Xi Anling coming towards them.

Song Jun became nervous reflexively when he saw Xi Anling and ran to buy her an ice cream.

Xi Anling took it and took two bites, suddenly feeling that Song Jun was plotting against her, and said angrily, “You want me to eat more and get fatter, right?”

Song Jun expressed that he was wrongly accused.

Xia Hongshen said, “Alright, just eat what you want to have.”

Xi Anling felt aggrieved, but she still couldn’t help finishing the ice cream.

After returning to the dormitory in the evening, Xia Hongshen went to take a shower, and Song Jun used his laptop to surf the internet in his room. After playing for a while, he saw a QQ1messaging app pop-up window showing that Feng Junyuan had sent him a file.

Song Jun was stunned for a moment and realised that Xia Hongshen’s QQ was hanging on this computer.

He received Feng Junyuan’s compressed package and asked, “What?”

       Feng Junyuan replied, “For you.”

Song Jun was confused. After unzipping the zip file, he found that there were more than a dozen photos in the folder. When he opened it, he found that they were all photos taken at the zoo today.

Feng Junyuan used his mobile phone to take pictures of lions, tigers, leopards, and cheetahs in the zoo. Except for the lions, Song Jun couldn’t tell whether the other big cats were male or female.

Anyway, when he heard Xia Hongshen open the door and come in, he immediately closed the photos and deleted them all so as not to show Xia Hongshen those various nude photos.

Xia Hongshen still had moisture on his body. He walked up to Song Jun and asked him, “What are you doing?”

Song Jun shook his head and said, “Nothing.”

Xia Hongshen picked him up and put him on his lap.

Song Jun reached out and gently brushed Xia Hongshen’s hair, just like how they did for many years.

Xia Hongshen rested his head on Song Jun’s shoulder lazily.

Song Jun suddenly said to him, “Let me teach you what lovers would do.”

Xia Hongshen raised his head to look at him and said, “Okay.”

As dawn approached, Song Jun lifted the hand that Xia Hongshen had wrapped around his waist and sat up from the bed. Since his soul was restored, his physical condition has improved significantly. For example, at this moment, he had enough energy to go to the bathroom and take a shower by himself.

He thought of taking advantage of the situation before dawn; otherwise, it would be embarrassing if he bumped into Bu Hui when he got up later.

As a result, as soon as Song Jun got out of bed, he was stopped by Xia Hongshen and dragged back.

Xia Hongshen rolled over and sat on him.

Song Jun cried bitterly, “Senior Brother Xia, stop making trouble.”

Xia Hongshen obviously refused to give up easily. When Song Jun wanted to sit up, he pushed him back.

Song Jun tried his best to turn over and crawled under the bed.

Xia Hongshen suddenly showed his sharp claws and nailed Song Jun on the side of his head.

Song Jun was startled and then felt something rubbing against his naked back. Without looking back, he could guess that it was Xia Hongshen who had shown his monster form at that time.

Xia Hongshen bit Song Jun’s neck with his fangs, preventing him from escaping.

Although he felt that the opponent was restraining his strength and did not want to bite him, Song Jun still refused to do it. He simply showed his original form, and a hard bronze sword fell to the ground with a clatter.

Despite this, Xia Hongshen still took him to bed, and Song Jun didn’t want to remember what happened next.

By the time Song Jun opened the door and wanted to take a shower, it was already dawn.

He was in a daze. As soon as he opened the door, he saw Bu Hui passing by.

Song Jun was startled and quickly closed the door.

Bu Hui had already seen Song Jun. He ran over and knocked on the door curiously, asking, “Is it Song Jun? Why are you in the Senior Brother’s dormitory?”

Song Jun leaned behind the door, not knowing how to answer him.

In the end, Xia Hongshen walked over to him, opened the door, and said to Bu Hui, “He’s working on his paper.”

After he heard Xia Hongshen say that, Bu Hui tacitly accepted that Song Jun was writing his thesis with Xia Hongshen guiding him through the night. He didn’t seem to find anything wrong and responded with an “Oh” before heading towards the water room.

Later, when Bu Hui went out, Song Jun went to the water room to take a shower and then went back to his room to change clothes. He had to go to work at the appraisal centre today, and the senior sister should be discharged from the hospital this week.

When he was going out, Song Jun saw Xia Hongshen transforming into a little black cat and waiting for him at the door.

When Song Jun came out, the little black cat came over to tug off his trousers and wanted to follow him.

Song Jun had no choice but to carry it along with him.

Throughout the morning, the senior sister who was discharged from the hospital was trying to tease the little black cat, but the little black cat didn’t pay much attention to her. When it was bored, it would circle around Song Jun’s feet.

The senior sister squatted next to the cat, reached out, tugged the tail of the little black cat, and said enviously, “How did you raise a cat to be so well-behaved?”

Song Jun forced a smile and said, “Probably because of the breed.”

The little black cat with nothing to do accompanied Song Jun for the whole day at the appraisal centre, and when there was nothing to do in the afternoon, it lay on Song Jun’s lap and slept.

When he got off work in the afternoon, the senior sister had already left. Xia Hongshen asked Song Jun to go to Ling Xiao’s bar with him in the evening.

Song Jun still hadn’t forgotten the time he went to the other person’s bar to cause trouble. He suddenly became a little nervous and asked, “Why do you want to go to his bar?”

Xia Hongshen put a hand on his shoulder and said, “I want to tell them about the Demon Market.”

Having said this, Song Jun asked curiously, “Do you know who the new City God is?”

“It is temporarily vacant,” Xia Hongshen said. “The magistrate and The Lord Magistrate of Yin and Yang Division will manage internal and external affairs until suitable candidates are available.”

Song Jun nodded when he heard this.

In the evening, as soon as Xia Hongshen and Song Jun walked into Ling Xiao’s bar, the atmosphere in the entire bar suddenly became tense.

Xia Hongshen casually sat down on the sofa next to him, and all the demons around him moved away.

Xiang Wenxi ran over aggressively and said, “What are you doing here?”

       Xia Hongshen said, “Going clubbing.”

Xiang Wenxi said angrily, “You are not welcome!”

Xia Hongshen simply put his long legs on the table, folded his hands on his chest and looked at Xiang Wenxi.

Xiang Wenxi was also a little afraid of him, so he turned to Song Jun and said, “You are not allowed to bring weapons!”

Song Jun suddenly became angry and said, “What do you mean! There are no rules written at your door!”

At this time, Ling Xiao came over to stop their quarrel.

Ling Xiao sat down opposite Xia Hongshen and asked, “What is the purpose of your visit?”

Their hostility towards Xia Hongshen had been reduced a lot after this demonic attack on the city. At least the purpose of this great demon staying in this city was not to destroy it but to protect it like them.

Demons were different from deities. They shared this city with humans, and they didn’t want this place to be destroyed easily, so they also had their own order.

Xia Hongshen did not answer Ling Xiao’s question but asked, “Where are the remnants of Demon Market now?”

Ling Xiao said, “Mr. Yun is the one who is announcing the news. He said before that the Demon Market would be closed.”

Xia Hongshen said to him, “I know. Go asked Mr. Yun to come to see me and then run the Demon Market.”

This time, not only Ling Xiao but also many people in the bar were attracted.

“You want to reopen the Demon Market?” Xiang Wenxi was very surprised.

       Xia Hongshen asked, “Not allowed?”

Xiang Wenxi hesitated, “I thought you were going back to heaven.”

“I’m not going back,” Xia Hongshen said. “I will take over the Demon Market from now on, and I will not ignore the affairs of the Demon Realm.”

Song Jun couldn’t help but glance at Xia Hongshen.

Xia Hongshen remained expressionless, and others had no way of guessing what he was thinking.

But Song Jun knew that he and Xia Hongshen had been together for so long, and he often knew exactly what Xia Hongshen was thinking. In fact, Xia Hongshen just wanted to stay in this city. What happened with Cen Le probably made Xia Hongshen feel a little irritated. He was not willing to have someone to easily cause trouble in this city.

Xia Hongshen was marking territory. This arrogant big cat had designated this entire city as his own territory, so everything here must be developed under his control. Other beasts that wanted to break into his territory must be evicted.

Ling Xiao was originally a ferocious beast too, but Xia Hongshen probably didn’t pay much attention to him. In terms of strength, Ling Xiao was no match for Xia Hongshen.

Fortunately, wolves were social animals. Ling Xiao did not reject Xia Hongshen too much. He said, “I will contact Mr. Yun and tell him your intention.”

Xia Hongshen nodded, “Tell him to come see me.”

So two months later, when autumn was just about to arrive, the Demon Market opened again.

That night, Feng Junyuan stood at the gate of the amusement park checking tickets.

All the monsters who entered looked at him secretly and then whispered, “This is Demon Zhen’s Gilded Phoenix Wings.”

       “It looks so handsome!”

“But not as good as Chunjun though.”

“It’s already very impressive. I heard that Chunjun is here today too.”

Feng Junyuan’s face was expressionless, and he stretched out his hand to the next monster to enter, “Tickets.”

The amusement park was very lively. This was probably the most lively time for the Demon Market in the history of the entire city.

The giant panda was still selling masks at the fork in the road. Long Xing selected for a long time, but he still couldn’t find one he was satisfied with.

The giant panda took one at random and put it on his face, saying, “Don’t pick any more, they all look good.”

Long Xing hesitated for a moment, walked to the edge of the swimming pool, and took a look at his reflection in the water as if he didn’t quite believe what the giant panda had said.

The giant panda waddled over and wanted to say a few nice words, but because its belly was too big, it knocked Long Xing into the swimming pool.

“Oops,” it cried with little sincerity, “I’m sorry.”

At this time, a soft silver whip stretched out from the water, wrapped one of the giant pandas’ feet, and dragged it down, causing a huge splash of water.

Xi Anling heard the commotion, took a look, then turned back and continued to guard the stall selling cotton candy in front of her.

The owner of the stall was a squirrel demon. In fact, it was not easy for animals with short life spans like squirrels to become demons. Even if they could cultivate, their magic power was not very strong.

Facing Xi Anling, it became a bit nervous. The cotton candy it had finally managed to turn around shook a bit when it handed it over, and it fell to the ground.

Xi Anling said, “Oh” regretfully and turned to look at the squirrel, waiting for it to make one for her again.

The little squirrel was stared at by Xi Anling, and its two front teeth suddenly began to tremble.

Xi Anling looked at it strangely, imitating it and chattering her teeth, and said, “What are you doing? Make me a new one quickly, or give me my money back.”

The little squirrel trembled even more.

Xi Anling said angrily, “I’m going to find my master.”

The little squirrel jumped up and ran away from the seat. Xi Anling couldn’t catch up, so she had to give up.

Song Jun sat at the highest point of the Ferris wheel. Although the lights were flashing, the entire Ferris wheel was not moving, so he could always look down at the scenery from the highest point.

Xia Hongshen maintained his monster form, lying on the roof of Song Jun’s small carriage, dragging his tail down and knocking on the glass window.

Song Jun reached out and grabbed his tail.

Xia Hongshen then flicked his tail and directly rolled Song Jun out and put him on his back.

Song Jun lay on top of him and looked down with him.

Suddenly, with some surprise, Song Jun pointed to a bald man in the crowd and said, “Is that Master Yun Po?”

Xia Hongshen took a look and snorted from his nose.

Song Jun scratched the hair on the top of his head and said, “Who is that behind him?”

Xia Hongshen took another look and said, “A ghost.”

Song Jun looked carefully and found that the ghost following Yun Po turned out to be Wan Mingguang.

Suddenly feeling a little relieved, Song Jun lay down and brushed the soft fur on Xia Hongshen’s back.

Xia Hongshen said, “Have you finished writing your paper? Can it be submitted to SCI2SCI stands for Science Citation Index, which is a citation index originally produced by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI).?”

Song Jun said helplessly, “Can you shut up at this time?”

At the same time, fireworks bloomed in the sky, and the September Demon Market officially began.

Chunjun had been accompanying Demon Zhen for thousands of years and perhaps countless thousands more; it will never end.

This is the end. In the future, I will consider a simple ghost story or a simple cute article about the animal world.

Chapter 30 – The Ending

After returning to Hanguan, life returned to what it was before. Zhuo Yue began to work regularly and complete all the tasks given to him by his master. However, he lost his previous enthusiasm for adapting to the camera. He no longer went to the cage alone and even began to reject adaptation exercises.

He became increasingly difficult to focus, constantly drifting away.

Fang Mingyan quickly noticed something unusual, but did not make any comment and continued to adapt to the training as planned. Zhuo Yue began to rely more and more on the man and always preferred to be near him.

That night, Fang Mingyan worked late in the study and fell asleep on the sofa as usual. When he woke up in a daze, he saw a man sitting beside him and looking at him. There was an expression in those dark eyes that he couldn’t understand, as if there was some intolerance and pity in the gentleness.

       He called out softly, “Master.”

“Shh.” Fang Mingyan pressed his middle finger on Zhuo Yue’s lips and said, “Don’t talk.” Then he stroked his cheek with his fingers, looked at him quietly from above for a while, and leaned forward to kiss him.

Zhuo Yue fell into his lingering kiss and stayed in a daze—so much so that when he woke up the next day, he couldn’t tell whether it had really happened or if it was just a dream.

One night, two weeks after the awards ceremony, Zhuo Yue accepted the order to go to the fourth floor for adaptation training as usual. He knelt in the middle of the carpet, glanced at the camera, and pursed his lips.

However, Fang Mingyan didn’t come up for a long time.

As the hour hand continued to move forward, Zhuo Yue became anxious.

An hour had almost passed, exceeding the usual time to adapt to training. He turned around several times to look at the door, but there was still no movement. He didn’t know why the man hadn’t shown up, and he didn’t dare get up. He could only wait there anxiously, staring at the clock in a daze.

When the door opened, nearly eighty minutes had passed. Zhuo Yue was startled and immediately bowed his back with a distressed expression. When Fang Mingyan’s footsteps stopped before him, he spoke with a trembling voice, “Master… I feel uncomfortable…”

The man did not carry him out as he had done in the past but stood in silence.

Zhuo Yue bit his lip and raised his head to look at him, only to see Fang Mingyan faintly looking at himself. His eyes moved, and he called out, “Master ……”

“You plan to continue acting, right?” The man’s voice was extremely cold.

Zhuo Yue felt his heart suddenly sank and froze in place.

“Kneel down and look at me.”

The cold command made Zhuo Yue tremble involuntarily and called out in panic, “Master…”

“Do you need me to say it a second time?”

He did not dare disobey the order. He straightened his upper body into a standard kneeling posture and then raised his head uneasily. Their eyes crossed, and the man’s black eyes were as sharp as one’s heart. Zhuo Yue, who was already feeling guilty, was at a loss under such a gaze, and his eyes avoided looking at each other.

Fang Mingyan drew a black riding crop from the wall, raised Zhuo Yue’s chin with the whip at the front, forced him to look at him, and asked, “What order did I just give you?”

“Kneel down and look at you.” His throat was dry.

       “Why did you look away?”

       “…I was wrong.”

       “Turn around.”

He had just turned and knelt when he heard a slight thud. The riding crop hit his back diagonally, making him scream in surprise. The leather of this kind of whip was tough. It made little noise when used, but the pain inflicted was very strong. He had rarely suffered such a heavy punishment, and this harsh pain made him tremble all over.

“Does it hurt?” A cold male voice came from behind.

Zhuo Yue’s eyes were red, but he still tried his best to straighten his upper body and kneel down. He then replied, “It hurts…”

“If you are afraid of pain, answer my question carefully.” Fang Mingyan said, “When did you find out that your camera phobia is cured?”

The most feared thing finally happened. Zhuo Yue’s heart felt cold, and he pursed his lips tightly and said nothing.

“If you don’t want to answer, that’s fine.” The man raised his hand and whipped him for the second time. The pain spread, and the whole back was burning.

The second question followed, “Why did you hide it from me?”

Zhuo Yue still gritted his teeth and remained silent, but he soon received another whipping.

“How long do you plan to keep this from me?”

       Still silent.

The whip did not fall. The man behind him threw the whip aside and untied the fingerprint collar around his neck. Zhuo Yue’s eyes widened as he froze and called out in panic, “Master…”

“As I said, the relationship between master and slave should be based on mutual trust and voluntariness. If this foundation collapses, the master-slave relationship will cease to exist.” Fang Mingyan paused and continued, “Your pretense wasn’t enough to fool me, and I didn’t reveal it because I wanted to give you enough trust so that you could take the initiative to tell me everything. I gave you a chance, but you didn’t treasure it. Zhuo Yue, since I am not enough to make you trust me wholeheartedly, then the master-slave relationship between us ends here.”

Zhuo Yue turned around in panic, and the tears in his eyes finally couldn’t be held back anymore and fell from the corners of his eyes.

       His heart ached.

It hurts a thousand times—ten thousand times more than those whips on the back. It was as if someone had dug it out of his body with blood, turning it into a broken hollow. The pain was so painful that he could hardly breathe. He couldn’t open my mouth to argue and didn’t dare to beg for forgiveness. Zhuo Yue raised his face and begged in the most humble manner, “Master, I was wrong, no matter how you punish me… Please…”

       Please, don’t abandon me.

“Stand up.” The man’s voice was cold.

“…because I’m scared.” Zhuo Yue’s shoulder blades were trembling, and there was heartbreaking helplessness and sadness in his crying voice, “I’m afraid that you will let me go after you find out, I’m afraid that I will lose you after I recover, I’m afraid to imagine life without you. I have no other choice but to pretend. Master, I want to stay by your side… because, because…”

“That’s enough.” Fang Mingyan interrupted the words he had repeated countless times in his heart and said indifferently, “Zhuo Yue, I have terminated the contractual relationship with you. You don’t need to use this title for me anymore. Now, I will treat you as a guest, and please respect me as a homeowner. The fourth floor is my personal private area. Please leave.”

       It’s all over.

The despair that surged up was like a turbulent sea, turning the world upside down.

Zhuo Yue stood up stiffly like a puppet with its strings broken and walked towards the stairs outside. Tears rolled down uncontrollably, leaving marks on his cheeks that were difficult to dry. His vision was empty and blurry, his strength seemed to have been drained, and every part of his body had lost consciousness. Just when he lost his balance on the edge of the stairs and was about to fall, someone grabbed his arm and pulled him back.

Seeing Fang Mingyan’s frowning expression, he apologized anxiously, “I’m sorry…”

The man grabbed his wrist and entered the guest room on the third floor. He took a nightgown from the closet and put it on the bed, “Sleep here tonight. If you need anything, you can call Zhou Chi. You know his number. Tomorrow morning Lin Hui will pick you up at nine o’clock.” After saying that, he turned and left, closing the door.

Decisive and resolute, passionate and ruthless, this is Fang Mingyan’s attitude towards his sub.

Zhuo Yue sat down on the ground beside the bed with red eyes and buried his head in his knees. From the first time he pretended to feel uncomfortable, guilt and uneasiness had always been with him. Whenever he wanted to explain, he lost his courage because of cowardice. He was greedy for the tenderness given by the man. He wanted to maintain the relationship between the two and enjoyed every second spent by the man’s side. He thought he was cleverly delaying time, and finally brought everything to an irreversible situation.

It was just his own fault.

He didn’t know how long he had been sitting. When he stood up, his legs were so numb that he could hardly feel them.

The night was silent without any sound. He walked naked through the corridor, walked down the stairs to the door of the master bedroom, and then curled up against the door. The moonlight filtered in from the corridor window and shone on him, like a gentle companionship.

Zhuo Yue gradually fell asleep. In his daze, he had a hazy dream. In the dream, the tall man hugged him, placed him gently on the bed, then leaned over and kissed the moist corners of his eyes, and seemed to say something to him. He tried hard to hear the voice clearly, but it was blown away by the sudden strong wind, leaving only the word ‘sorry’.

When he woke up the next day, he found himself sleeping on the bed in the guest room. A complete set of clothes from inside to outside was placed on the vertical clothes rack next to the bed. He got dressed and went downstairs. The butler, Zhou Chi, stood at the top of the stairs with a smile and bowed slightly to him, “Mr. Zhuo.”

“Mas…where is Chairman Fang?” he asked.

“Master Ming said he had something to do and went out early in the morning. I don’t know his specific whereabouts.” Zhou Chi said, “He has arranged a car to pick you up and is waiting outside the door. Do you have any items that you need me to pack for you?”

“No.” Zhuo Yue’s smile was a little sad.

From the beginning, he came here with nothing, and ultimately, he left with nothing. Everything he gained was finally lost, and the only thing left was the longing for another man in his heart, but that man didn’t even want to see him again.

“It’s time for me to go.” Moist mist filled his eyes again. He lowered his eyes to hide his emotions and said, “Please help me bring him a message. Thank you for taking care of him all the time. I will work hard. Please rest assured.” He glanced back in the direction of the stairs and turned to go out.

Lin Hui, who was called to pick him up at short notice last night, was startled when he saw Zhuo Yue’s red and swollen eyes and pale face. He didn’t dare to ask anything and silently started the car.

Zhou Chi watched them leave, took a cup of tea to the study, and said to the man standing by the window looking at the lake in the distance, “Master Ming, Mr. Zhuo has left.”

“Yeah.” Fang Mingyan took the teacup but didn’t drink it.

“He asked me to tell you something.” The butler repeated Zhuo Yue’s words.

The man listened with a calm expression and said, “Contact Tang Can and ask him to send someone to keep an eye on Zhuo Yue throughout this period, especially when he is working in front of the camera. If any symptoms similar to PTSD appear, report to me immediately.”

“I understand.” Zhou Chi stood there for a moment and couldn’t help but ask, “Since you can’t help but worry about him, why don’t you let him stay?”

Fang Mingyan glanced at the collar on the table, “People always have to make a lot of choices, and sometimes they have to give up something in order to move forward.”

“You let him go in order to move forward?” he asked in confusion.

The man smiled lightly, his tall body standing by the window looking a little lonely, “You can think of it that way.”

Chapter 24

When they left the hospital, Pei Qing realised that neither Zhan Weiyang nor Chen Youyou had eaten lunch yet, so he had to take them to the fast food restaurant opposite the hospital for lunch.

It was past lunch time, there were not many people in the fast food restaurant, and the food was served very quickly.

Zhan Weiyang and Chen Youyou each ordered a set meal. Pei Qing had already eaten lunch and did not order. So he just sat and watched them eat.

Chen Youyou was busy being scared just now, but now that his mood stabilised, he felt hungry. When the food was served, he was the first to take a spoon and scoop two large spoonfuls of rice mixed with soup into his mouth. As he chewed with a bulging mouth, he raised his head and he glanced at Zhan Weiyang across him.

He saw that Zhan Weiyang was still nonchalantly mixing the marinade of his braised pork rice with the rice. He didn’t rush to eat after mixing, but raised his head and looked at Pei Qing sitting next to him, “Qing ge, you are not going to eat?”

Pei Qing’s seat was by the window, and the sunlight penetrated the floor-to-ceiling glass and shone lazily on him. He leaned on the back of the chair and said to Zhan Weiyang, “I’ve eaten, you can eat.”

Zhan Weiyang scooped up a spoonful of rice with a small piece of braised pork on it and put it into his mouth. He chewed it and swallowed it leisurely, and then looked at Pei Qing.

Pei Qing asked him, “Is it delicious?”

Zhan Weiyang nodded and said, “You can try it.”

Pei Qing said, “I don’t need to.”

Zhan Weiyang persisted and said, “Just have a taste.” He scooped out a spoonful of rice and carefully added two pieces of meat on top.

When Pei Qing saw Zhan Weiyang handing the spoon to his mouth, he suddenly couldn’t bear to refuse. He opened his mouth and let Zhan Weiyang feed the food into his mouth.

Zhan Weiyang suddenly became happy and asked Pei Qing, “Is it delicious?”

Actually, there wasn’t anything particularly tasty; it was just the flavor of the braised meat buns sold outside. However, Pei Qing still nodded in agreement.

Zhan Weiyang handed the coke that came with the set meal to Pei Qing and said, “Here you drink it.” After that, he handed him the paper towel on his plate, as if he wanted to wipe Pei Qing’s mouth in person.

Chen Youyou frowned as he looked at it. As soon as he frowned, the wound hurt. He quickly relaxed his brows, lowered his head and continued to eat, thinking that Zhan Weiyang was really weird.

After dinner, Pei Qing drove Chen Youyou home first.

Zhan Weiyang was sitting in the passenger seat, and Chen Youyou was sitting alone in the back seat. He couldn’t help but poke his head out from the middle of the front seat and look forward.

Pei Qing stopped the car and waited for the red light when he suddenly asked, “How did Youyou get injured?”

Zhan Weiyang didn’t say anything, but Chen Youyou took the initiative and said, “I-I was hit by X-xie Ling’s bicycle.” Perhaps because Pei Qing was not of the same age, he didn’t object to exposing his stuttering problem in front of Pei Qing.

Pei Qing said, “Why aren’t you going home after school? What could you be doing outside that would get you hit by a bike?”

This time Chen Youyou didn’t speak but looked at Zhan Weiyang.

Zhan Weiyang suddenly became nervous. He secretly raised his hand and hit Chen Youyou’s arm from behind.

Pei Qing saw it all but said nothing. When the red light passed and the green light turned on, he started the car and continued moving forward.

After a while, Pei Qing said, “Since Xie Ling hit Youyou while riding a bicycle, I think it would be better for us to notify Xie Ling’s parents so that if the injury changes in the future, we can find someone to take responsibility.”

       Zhan Weiyang blurted out, “No!”

Pei Qing looked at him, “Why not?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “Because it’s all my fault and it has nothing to do with Xie Ling.”

Pei Qing’s tone was calm, “Are you very protective of Xie Ling, is he a good friend? Is it better than your relationship with Youyou?”

When Chen Youyou heard their conversation, he became unhappy and said in a complaining tone, “He’s just reluctant to blame Xie Ling!”

Pei Qing smiled and asked, “Why?”

Zhan Weiyang turned around and wanted to stop Chen Youyou from continuing, but Chen Youyou just smiled and said, “Because Xie Ling is tall, and handsome, right?” After saying that, he raised his eyebrows at Zhan Weiyang, and then it hurt. He immediately lowered his face.

Pei Qing listened quietly, and when the car passed the next intersection, he asked without warning, “How are Xie Ling’s grades?”

Chen Youyou replied without thinking, “Very good!”

Zhan Weiyang didn’t know what Pei Qing meant by asking this question.

Pei Qing just nodded, and then said, “Good-looking, tall, and has good grades.”

       Zhan Weiyang looked confused.

Pei Qing drove Chen Youyou home. When Chen Youyou arrived, only his mother was at home. Pei Qing took Zhan Weiyang up to admit his mistake to Chen Youyou’s mother. Without mentioning Xie Ling, he said that when they were fighting he was not careful that he hit Chen Youyou.

Mother Chen said it was nothing, and invited Zhan Weiyang and Pei Qing to eat fruit, and then scolded Chen Youyou.

Chen Youyou felt that he was hurt and was being scolded without being comforted. He suddenly felt aggrieved and squatted in the corner without saying a word.

Pei Qing and Zhan Weiyang both looked towards Chen Youyou.

Mother Chen said she didn’t need to worry about him, and praised Zhan Weiyang for his cleverness and Pei Qing for his good looks and steady personality.

Before leaving, Zhan Weiyang walked to Chen Youyou and knelt down. He said again, “I’m sorry.”

Chen Youyou waved his hand at him, indicating that he didn’t care.

Zhan Weiyang leaned forward and gently pressed his forehead to Chen Youyou’s forehead.

Chen Youyou quickly hid back, raised his hand to cover his forehead and said, “What are you doing?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “I’ll share half of it away for you, so you won’t be in as much pain.” When he was sick as a child, Zhan Pengcheng would coax him like this.

Chen Youyou said, “No, don’t. I’m afraid of becoming stupid like you.”

“Chen Youyou!” Mother Chen shouted angrily, “Why are you so rude?”

Zhan Weiyang was not angry. He just stood up slowly, looked at Chen Youyou melancholy for the last time, and said, “Then I’m leaving.”

Chen Youyou said, “Just go quickly.”

Mother Chen sent Pei Qing and Zhan Weiyang to the door. She felt a little sorry for what Chen Youyou said just now, and said to Pei Qing, “They are used to playing together, and they don’t speak nicely to each other.”

Pei Qing smiled and said, “If there were a sense of proportion, Youyou would not be injured.”

Hearing this, Mother Chen looked at Pei Qing and said, “Are you Yangyang’s older cousin? How old are you?”

       Pei Qing replied, “Twenty-one.”

Mother Chen nodded, “You look very young to me. Are you in college?”

Pei Qing responded, “Yes, I am a senior.”

Mother Chen asked curiously, “Which school is it?”

Pei Qing mentioned the name of a famous local school.

Chen’s mother quickly said, “You are so outstanding! Come here to play often when you have time. Youyou is a sophomore in high school this year and his grades are not bad.” She lowered her voice when she said this, fearing that Chen Youyou would hear it, “But he’s mischievous and lacks discipline. He doesn’t listen to me when I speak. If you have the time, could you share your experience of studying well in college with him? Help me persuade him to prepare well for the college entrance exam and strive to get into a school as good as yours.”

Pei Qing smiled and said, “Okay, I’ll try my best.”

After saying goodbye to Mother Chen, the two walked into the elevator. Zhan Weiyang suddenly said to Pei Qing, “You should also talk to me.”

Pei Qing asked, “What to say?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “What Auntie just said about what to say to Chen Youyou.”

Pei Qing thought for a while and said, “Then tell me about that tall, good-looking person with good grades?”

       Zhan Weiyang looked confused, “Who?”

Pei Qing looked at him for a while, then looked away, “Forget it.”

Zhan Weiyang thought for a long time, and when the elevator dinged and reached the first floor, he suddenly realised, “You?”

Chapter 29 – Night Party

He was supposed to get up early to prepare breakfast, but Zhuo Yue didn’t move. At this moment, Fang Mingyan’s arm was resting on his waist, in a half-hug position. He just stayed motionless in the man’s arms, looking at him quietly.

Although the two of them slept in the same bedroom on weekdays, their relationship remained confined to the bed and underneath it. Zhuo Yue was always afraid of waking him up when he got up every day, so he carefully moved with caution, quickly leaving the bedroom. Therefore, he had never seen Fang Mingyan asleep from such a close distance.

When he was sleeping, he looked handsome and gentle—like an archangel in a painting, with his eyes lowered to listen to the holy voice. Zhuo Yue’s eyes fell on his thin lips. When he thought of what happened last night, his face instantly became hot. The overly intense love affair had left Zhuo Yue almost deflated, and all the scenes turned into fragments of blushing and heartbeat, but his body still faithfully remembered every feeling the man brought to him. The ultimate pleasure when the genitals were licked, the breath of each other when the lips intertwined, the wet friction of the lower bodies during continuous thrusting, the moment when the two of them ejaculate together, the man’s caress while holding him in the shower… As he thought of these, his heartbeat uncontrollably rose faster.

If I could always be by his side…

Suddenly, such a bold and crazy idea suddenly came to his mind.

       Zhuo Yue was stunned.

“There are some things that can’t be done, some things that can’t be said, and once certain emotions start, they’re hard to contain.”

He suddenly remembered this line said by Hua Zhan in ‘The Goddess Strategy’. He didn’t understand it at first, but now he understood it.

Something sour in his heart gradually melted away and slowly filled his eyes. At this moment, Fang Mingyan, who was sleeping next to him, opened his eyes.

Zhuo Yue was startled and quickly lowered his head, but someone pinched his chin and raised his eyes to face each other. He had no time to hide his hurried and sad expression, and the moist water in the corner of his eyes fell into the other person’s eyes at the same time.

“Master, you’re awake.” He lowered his eyes and spoke calmly.

“Your body hurts?” the man asked.

“It doesn’t hurt. Just…my eyes are a little dry.”

Fang Mingyan didn’t expose his excuse. He slightly folded his arms to bring him closer to him, and then kissed his eyes gently, “Sleep with me for a while longer.”

After dinner, Lin Hui, whom he hadn’t seen for a long time, appeared at Hanguan No. 15 and brought a set of clothes to Zhuo Yue. He took it in confusion, only to hear Fang Mingyan say calmly, “Go and put it on. Tonight is the Silver Star Awards Night, and you are a finalist for Best Supporting Actor in the movie.”

Zhuo Yue’s heart skipped a beat, and there was some panic in his eyes, “Sir, I…those cameras…” Although he had improved greatly through repeated training, he still felt scared when he thought of those dark cameras pointing at him.

“I will go with you.” The man looked at him calmly.

Zhuo Yue, who had not been out for more than a month, looked at the scenery outside the car window and found that the scenery was both familiar and unfamiliar.

Traffic lights, zebra crossings, intersections, and all the streets that he had walked on before had an inexplicable sense of freshness. Flower shops, fruit stalls, night markets, and corners he never noticed at ordinary times looked special now. Young men jogging, girls holding flowers, uncles selling snacks, and street trees that had lost all their leaves. The world seemed to have grown larger, become vivid and concrete, clear and interesting.

“Chairman Fang, we’re here.” Lin Hui parked the car, and makeup artist, xiao Ya, hurried over to apply makeup on Zhuo Yue. She looked around and said with a smile, “Yue ge must have been extremely moisturized during this holiday. Your complexion is much better than before, even if I don’t put on any makeup, you will definitely look stunning.”

Except for Lin Hui, no one else knew the whereabouts of Zhuo Yue during this time. This joke made Zhuo Yue blush and glance at the man next to him in embarrassment. The other party curled his lips slightly.

When everything was ready, Fang Mingyan handed him a mobile phone, “Take it and call me if anything happens.”

He took it. That was his cell phone. It was taken away on the day he entered Hanguan and was not returned to him until today.

“Come on, let’s go to the waiting area.” The man walked slowly towards the garage door, and Zhuo Yue immediately stepped up to follow.

The Silver Star Awards Ceremony was held annually, with all the awards generated by online voting from the public. Its influence grew year by year, so it became increasingly grand. Zhuo Yue followed behind Fang Mingyan with his head down, weaving through the bustling crowd and arriving at the exclusive rest area for Huasheng artists. Several of Huasheng’s top stars were present, and they all stood up to greet the boss when they saw him.

Lu Chenyang was startled when he saw Zhuo Yue. He walked over and asked softly, “Where have you been recently?”

“I’ve been resting for a while and relaxing for myself.” He answered vaguely.

Lu Chenyang was about to ask again when he heard Fang Mingyan’s voice, “Chenyang, come here.”

The two whispered a few words. After a while, Lu Chenyang returned to Zhuo Yue and asked with some worry, “I heard from the boss that you are not feeling well?”

He was startled and looked over there. Fang Mingyan was talking to a female singer by the window. Handsome and wealthy men were always easy to be favoured by others. His black suit was fit and steady, with a bit of hidden aura. The silver cufflinks were a bit cold, and the silver-grey tie came from a low-key luxury brand. He was used to seeing him in casual clothes, but now he looked a little unfamiliar.

Zhuo Yue pursed his lips, looked away, smiled at the person next to him and said, “Well, I have a bit of a stomachache.”

“I called you many times before, but you didn’t return any of my calls.”

“I went away to recuperate. I kept turning off my phone for fear of being disturbed. I’m sorry…” He had already thought of an excuse on how to deal with it.

“Zhuo Yue…” The other party called his name softly, with a look of helplessness on his face. However, in the end, he just smiled, “Let’s go. The boss asked me to accompany you to the entrance.”

Fang Mingyan’s red carpet partner in the special guest group was arranged by the organisers. This time, his female companion was the promising female director Jiang Yuanyuan. He was widely recognized as a gentleman in the industry, handling every detail with finesse and grace, from opening car doors to offering his arm for support, from controlling their pace to steering the conversation towards the director’s latest work when faced with questions from reporters. After entering the venue gate, Fang Mingyan stopped in his tracks and said, “I’m terribly sorry, but I have something to attend to. I won’t be able to enter the venue for the time being.”

Jiang Yuanyuan was a little surprised and laughed, “Is Boss Fang going to dump me halfway?”

“I’m sorry.” The man apologised again sincerely.

“It’s okay. I can go in by myself. See you later.” After saying that, she walked in. She had been walking unsteadily just now, but now her 11cm high heels were stepping on the ground like a tiger.

Fang Mingyan looked at his watch and saw that it was almost Zhuo Yue’s entry order. He found a relatively remote work area and looked towards the entrance.

As soon as they got out of the car, Lu Chenyang and Zhuo Yue aroused loud cheers from the fans outside the stadium. The ‘Linhua’ pair, who had created countless topics in the past, appeared on stage together. Naturally, the reporters would not let it go, and all the long and short cameras in their hands were aimed at them.

That pitch-black scene made Zhuo Yue feel stiff all over. The feeling of fear came out of the depths of his bones, like a ghost claw that silently strangled his throat. A layer of sweat broke out on his back, and every cell in his body screamed, making him almost want to run away.

However…the hand in his trouser pocket tightly squeezed the mobile phone, and he tried his best to control himself and move forward.

There was a text message sent just before he got off the car, from his master.

       “I’ll wait for you inside.”

Every step was torturous, but he felt like he had support in his heart. It was as if he had put on thick armour, and he could look up and face the difficulties in front of him. He knew that there was someone waiting for him, and as long as he walked through this tho-ny road, he would be able to go to that person.

       Yes, I can do it.

Zhuo Yue adjusted his breathing, tried to keep his steps steady, and smiled at the overwhelming cameras to make himself look more natural. He left a scrawled signature on the signature wall, quickly walked into the splendid door, turned to the corner where there was no camera, and could no longer hold on.  He held the wall almost as if he had lost his strength, covered his chest in discomfort, and the sweat on his back had almost dampened his shirt.

“Zhuo Yue?” Lu Chenyang beside him was surprised and quickly supported him. Feeling that he was shaking, he asked worriedly, “What’s going on? What’s wrong with you…? I’ll call the doctor…”

“No need.” A deep male voice sounded from behind. Fang Mingyan unobtrusively pulled Zhuo Yue into his arms, and said calmly, “Just leave the rest to me. You go in and sit down first.”

“Chairman Fang, what happened to Zhuo Yue?” Lu Chenyang frowned and asked, “Also, where did he go during the time he was out of contact?”

The man didn’t answer, but gave him a cold look with oppressive gaze, put his arm around Zhuo Yue’s waist, and led him away quickly. Lu Chenyang was left standing frozen in place.

Zhuo Yue followed him upstairs in a daze and entered a place that looked like an office. Fang Mingyan helped him sit down on the chair, unbuttoned his collar, then stroked his face and said, “Look at me. I’m by your side, don’t be afraid.”

After a while, he calmed down, looked around and asked, “Where is this?”

“I borrowed the office from an acquaintance at the TV station.”

Zhuo Yue held the water glass in his hand and sighed worriedly.

       “What’s wrong?” Fang Mingyan asked.

“There are also many cameras in the studio. I’m worried that after a while… I won’t be able to hold on.” He sat with his head bowed, feeling uneasy.

The man slowly raised Zhuo Yue’s chin, his eyes as gentle as a spring breeze. “I can give you a charm to help you hold on longer.”

Before Zhuo Yue could react from his confusion, a warm kiss had already covered his lips.

It was like a sudden dream, like a tree with blooming flowers. It was so beautiful that it made people intoxicated.

As he came down from upstairs, he turned around and took a look. The man stood as tall as a pine tree, looked at him with encouraging eyes, and said something silently.

Zhuo Yue recognised that sentence from the shape of his mouth.

       ─Go ahead, I’m behind you.

He took a deep breath, clenched his fists, and walked into the brightly lit studio hall. On the roof, in the corners, under the stage, in the aisles, in the back rows, cameras were everywhere. He was like a lone herbivore, walking alone through a dangerous dark forest, with no way out and nowhere to hide. However, he could feel the gaze from behind, like a holy light, protecting him and giving him the courage and strength to overcome obstacles.

“Zhuo Yue, here!” Lu Chenyang waved to him, and their seats were arranged together. When he sat down, the other party asked eagerly, “Did you feel better?”

“Yes.” He smiled reluctantly, trying his best to lower his gaze and not look at those black machines.

“What’s going on? What’s wrong with your body?” he asked. When Lu Chenyang saw that he didn’t answer, there was a faint sense of disappointment in his eyes, “Forget it, if you don’t want to say it, don’t say it. I don’t mean to pry into your privacy, and I’ll never tell anyone. I swear, I really just care about you.”

“I understand.” Zhuo Yue said softly, “You have always taken good care of me.”

Lu Chenyang was silent for a moment and asked in a low voice, “Is it because of him that you are like this?”

Zhuo Yue was startled, then realised who he was talking about, and immediately shook his head in denial, “No.”

“I never believed it.” The man frowned slightly, “From the first time I saw you, I didn’t believe you were the person who was rumoured to have that kind of relationship with him, and I still don’t believe it even now.” He paused. There was a kind of helplessness and worry in his expression that Zhuo Yue had never seen before, “Zhuo Yue, if he ever forces you to do something you don’t want to do, and you can’t get away from him, I can help you. Whether it’s finding a new employer or changing careers, I’ll do my best to help you explore your options. Don’t let yourself end up like this. If your body collapses, everything will be ruined.”

Zhuo Yue knew that Lu Chenyang had misinterpreted the whole thing and said, “Although I can’t explain the situation to you clearly, it’s not what you imagined. He didn’t force me to do anything; he was just helping me.”

“In this case, I’m not at liberty to say anything else.” Lu Chenyang’s smile concealed a small amount of regret and sorrow, “But Zhuo Yue, you should understand that approaching him is very dangerous. He can make you or break you.”

The person beside him did not answer, just sat in silence, gripping the armrests of the seat so tightly that the veins on his hands could be seen.

Zhuo Yue didn’t know how he survived that party. He only remembered that when he could no longer hold on, he dialled the number stored as an ‘emergency contact’ on his phone with trembling fingers. The man on the other end of the phone lowered his voice. He said to him, “I understand your pain, but I’m asking you to endure this pain. Do it for me.”

The last words made Zhuo Yue’s eyes wet. He bit his lip and raised his head again. The award presenter on the stage was announcing the shortlist for Best Supporting Actor in Movie. When all the cameras turned to him, what was captured was the moment when his misty eyes looked forward.

On the big screen, those dark and bright eyes were filled with too many incomprehensible but touching emotions. Then he slowly opened a smile towards the camera, as gentle as the sunshine at the beginning of a rain shower, and as beautiful as the flowers swaying in the wind.

Just a moment was enough to make people stunned.

That night, Zhuo Yue’s tearful smile became the focus of many media attention. That shot was also adopted by many media outlets and quickly spread across the internet. It started a conversation with topics such as ‘Dude is so handsome’, ‘It breaks my heart to see it’, ‘I want to give you a hug’, and ‘You are the best actor in our hearts’. Reporters speculated a lot about why he showed such an expression. Unfortunately, they were not able to interview the person involved because Zhuo Yue left the scene in a hurry after the award for Best Supporting Actor was presented.

In the back seat of the speeding black car, he was lying on Fang Mingyan’s lap as quietly as a child.

“If you’re tired, take a nap first.” The man touched his head. Zhuo Yue responded softly and then closed his eyes tiredly.

“If you’re tired, take a nap first.” The man touched his head. Zhuo Yue responded softly, and then closed his eyes tiredly.

If there was one person in the world who could make him learn to be brave and strong, then only this person could make him let go of all the pretences of strength. At this moment, Zhuo Yue showed Fang Mingyan all his vulnerability, and in that moment captured by the camera, all he could think about was to give his best performance for this person.

This feeling did not come from coercion and orders, nor from training between master and slave, but from love.

He fell in love with this man.

Even though he thought of all the reasons and excuses to deny it, that was the truth.

Chapter 22

It was the first time that Zhan Weiyang met someone whom Chen Youyou called Yu ge.

Zhu Xinyu was not tall. His thick hair was dyed yellow and combed straight up. There was a pair of black sunglasses hanging in the pocket of his black shirt.

He brought three young men with him, one of whom looked younger than Chen Youyou and Zhan Weiyang, with a childish look on his face.

Zhu Xinyu squatted on the steps leading to the underground commercial street and said to the two of them, “Don’t worry, I just want to teach the brat who bullied my little brother a lesson.”

       Chen Youyou said, “Yes!”

Zhan Weiyang suddenly felt something was wrong. He said, “No, it’s pretending to teach him a lesson.”

Zhu Xinyu turned his gaze to his face and asked, “What do you mean pretending to teach me a lesson?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “It means you just can’t hit him. Just taunt him. I’ll hide next to him and I’ll rush out soon.”

Zhu Xinyu took out the sunglasses from his coat pocket and put them on his face, then asked, “What are we going to do if you rush out?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “Just run quickly.”

At this time, a tall and strong young man standing next to Zhu Xinyu was unhappy. He said, “Then we will lose dignity.”

Zhan Weiyang glanced at Chen Youyou a little at a loss.

Chen Youyou came close to Zhu Xinyu’s ear, lowered his voice and said, “My classmate’s brain is not very g-good, you, you just follow him along.”

Zhu Xinyu looked at Zhan Weiyang and said to Chen Youyou, “I can see it.”

Chen Youyou added, “But you, have to help teach that Xie Ling for me first, and tell him, to be polite to me in the future. Don’t tell, my classmates about this.”

       Zhu Xinyu nodded.

Zhan Weiyang found that Zhu Xinyu’s face was always facing his direction, but he was wearing a pair of large sunglasses, so he didn’t know if he was looking at him. Chen Youyou secretly spoke into Zhu Xinyu’s ear, just not wanting him to hear it, so he didn’t lean in to listen, but he felt a little uncomfortable.

After Chen Youyou finished talking to Zhu Xinyu, Zhan Weiyang grabbed Chen Youyou and asked, “What did you say?”

Chen Youyou whispered, “I told him to listen to you and stop taking action.”

       Zhan Weiyang nodded quickly.

They walked slowly along the ramp into the commercial street. This commercial street was very narrow, probably only wide enough for a car to pass. The signs of the shops on both sides were still there, but the doors were all closed and no one was there at noon.

Zhan Weiyang and Chen Youyou hid at the right stairwell of the exit ramp of the commercial street, which leads to the upper floors, and they went directly to the ground along the ramp.

Zhu Xinyu and the three young men stood waiting in the middle of the commercial street. They had already seen Xie Ling’s photo. Such a young man with outstanding appearance and temperament, wearing the same school uniform as Chen Youyou and the others, surely wouldn’t be missed.

Chen Youyou hid behind the wall, squatting on the ground and looking outside. During this time, he looked at the time on his phone. It wouldn’t be long before Xie Ling arrived.

Zhan Weiyang was a little nervous. He lay on Chen Youyou’s back and looked outside with him, holding Chen Youyou’s shoulder tightly with one hand.

Chen Youyou raised his head and said, “G-gently.”

Zhan Weiyang quickly let go and said, “I’m sorry.”

At this time, they saw Xie Ling riding a bicycle opposite the entrance of this not-so-long underground commercial street.

Chen Youyou and Zhan Weiyang pulled their heads back almost at the same time, looking at each other guiltily, both afraid that Xie Ling would see them.

Xie Ling was riding a bicycle very fast. In the blink of an eye, he was in the middle of the commercial street and was stopped by Zhu Xinyu and the others.

Chen Youyou and Zhan Weiyang didn’t dare to look around. They both squatted against the wall, eavesdropping on the conversation coming from the front.

Zhu Xinyu said, “Are you Xie Ling?”

The commercial street was an empty passage, which made even the smallest sound extremely loud, allowing Zhan Weiyang to hear clearly what they were saying.

However, Xie Ling did not answer Zhu Xinyu’s question.

One person said, “I’m asking you a question! Are you deaf?”

Xie Ling then said coldly, “I don’t know you.”

Zhu Xinyu said, “It doesn’t matter if you don’t know me. Let me tell you, Chen Youyou is my brother. I’m here today to give you a warning. If you see him in the future, be polite. Otherwise, if you mess with him once, I’ll beat you up. Did you hear that?”

Xie Ling said, “Who is Chen Youyou?”

Zhan Weiyang felt something was wrong, and he immediately wanted to get up and rush out.

Chen Youyou grabbed him, pulled him to his side, lowered his voice and said, “Wait, wait!”

Zhan Weiyang looked at Chen Youyou nervously, and at the same time, he heard someone shouting outside, “What the hell are you pretending for? I’m pissed off just looking at how c0cky you are!”

He couldn’t hold back his anger and had to go out. Chen Youyou hugged his waist and held him back, saying, “Let them, take care of him a bit!”

There were some chaotic noises outside, the bicycle bell rang suddenly, and then there was the sound of tyres scraping on the ground, accompanied by the sound of swearing words from the young man who was with Zhu Xinyu.

Zhan Weiyang and Chen Youyou were stunned for a moment. When they realised that there might be a fight, they suddenly panicked.

Naturally, Zhan Weiyang didn’t really want to ask someone to beat up Xie Ling. As for Chen Youyou, he wanted to ask someone to beat up Xie Ling, but he had no idea in his head how to beat up Xie Ling.

All he wanted was to have a group of young toughs surround Xie Ling and give him a scare, so he’d avoid crossing paths with him in the future. He wasn’t keen on seeing things escalate to physical violence and injuring someone.

So Chen Youyou released his hold on Zhan Weiyang. Seeing Zhan Weiyang get up and run there, he also ran.

Zhan Weiyang ran out first and saw Xie Ling rushing toward him on a bicycle. He was startled and stopped quickly, and he froze in place.

Xie Ling was obviously taken aback. He was not in the mood to waste time with a group of social hooligans. He used his wheels to knock people out of the way and planned to ride away directly. There was an uphill road in front of him, so he stepped on the pedals to accelerate, and as a result, he saw someone rushing in front of his wheel from the side.

Xie Ling could only forcefully swing the handlebars to the right, trying to evade Zhan Weiyang. However, just as he swung to the side, another person rushed out from behind. This time, he couldn’t dodge anymore and had to squeeze the brakes to stop his bicycle abruptly.

However, Chen Youyou was still knocked to the ground, and his forehead just brushed against the spokes of the front wheel.

       Zhan Weiyang exclaimed, “Ouch!”

Chen Youyou sat on the ground, completely stunned. He couldn’t react for a while until Zhan Weiyang squatted down to support him and called him in a panic, “Youyou!”

He replied blankly, “Ugh.” Then he raised his head and glanced at Xie Ling. He saw Xie Ling looking at him seriously.

Zhan Weiyang said, “Youyou, you are bleeding.”

Chen Youyou was a little confused and asked, “Where?” After saying that, he felt warm liquid sliding down his cheek. He couldn’t help but raise his hand and touch it. Sure enough, his fingers were covered with blood. He shouted, “Mom, mom, mom!”

Zhu Xinyu and others gathered around. When they saw the blood on Chen Youyou’s face, some people subconsciously grabbed Xie Ling’s collar, “This kid is too vicious!”

Zhan Weiyang has not forgotten his mission. While holding Chen Youyou tightly, he raised his head and shouted, “Let him go!”

Zhu Xinyu was not sure what to do for a while. His brothers who followed him found Xie Ling very unpleasant and wanted to punish him. However, at the moment, it was more important to drive Chen Youyou to the hospital first.

He then waved his hand and said, “Forget it, let’s all go.” At this point, he also thought of cooperating with Zhan Weiyang and the others in acting, pointed at Zhan Weiyang, and said to Xie Ling, “Today, it’s for the sake of this little friend that I’m letting you off the hook, so don’t forget to thank him properly.” After that, he asked Chen Youyou, “Do you need me to take you to the hospital?”

Chen Youyou shook his head and said with a pale face, “I’ll go by myself.”

Zhu Xinyu didn’t want to cause trouble, so he said, “Okay, call me if you need anything.” After that, he called several young people who were travelling with him and left together.

Zhan Weiyang helped Chen Youyou up and walked slowly outside, thinking of taking a taxi on the roadside.

       Xie Ling rode behind them.

Zhan Weiyang turned back to Xie Ling and said, “Are you okay?”

Xie Ling looked at him and shook his head.

Zhan Weiyang said again, “I’m sorry, go home by yourself. I can’t take you back. I want to accompany Youyou to the hospital.”

Chen Youyou was so panicked at this time that he couldn’t help but want to touch his forehead and didn’t notice a word of what they were saying.

Xie Ling’s tone was still cold, but he said, “I’ll go with you.”

Chapter 23

Pei Qing had finished his lunch at noon and was already on the second floor when he received a call from Zhan Weiyang.

Zhan Weiyang’s tone was very cautious, and he asked him if he could come to the hospital.

Pei Qing asked subconsciously, “Are you sick?”

Zhan Weiyang said quickly, “It’s not me, it’s Chen Youyou. I’m just worried.”

Pei Qing asked him the hospital’s address and said, “Wait for me. I’ll be right over.”

After hanging up the phone, Pei Qing came down from the second floor and met Auntie Luo who had just washed the dishes. Auntie Luo saw him in a hurry and asked, “Where are you going?”

Pei Qing knew that if he said he was going to the hospital, the elders would be worried, so he just said, “Go out.”

Grandma was sitting on the sofa with a blanket on her knees. She habitually took a nap while leaning on the back of the chair while watching TV. She turned her head and said, “Be careful on the road.”

Pei Qing said, “I know, grandma.” He walked towards the door. When changing shoes in the entrance, he opened the drawer above the shoe cabinet, took out the car keys that Zhan Pengcheng had put there when he left and stuffed them into his coat.

The family’s SUV was parked in the garage. No one had driven it since Zhan Pengcheng left. Today, Pei Qing drove the car out for the first time.

In the emergency department of the hospital, everyone looked anxious and walked in a hurry.

Xie Ling registered for Chen Youyou and waited outside the treatment room for a while before the doctor had time to look at Chen Youyou’s wound and said he needed stitches.

Chen Youyou’s already pale face turned even paler, and he said, “Will, my appearance be disfigured?”

The wound was on the right side of his forehead, extending from the hairline to the corner of his eye. It was only about two centimetres long, but it looked quite deep. There was a lot of blood. Even if he wiped it with a tissue, half of his cheek was stained red.

The doctor didn’t answer him and just said, “Boy, what are you afraid of?” Then he took Chen Youyou in to have his wound cleaned and stitched up.

Zhan Weiyang and Xie Ling were left waiting in the corridor outside.

Zhan Weiyang was really worried, with a pair of round glasses and a listless look, and he didn’t care to talk to Xie Ling.

Xie Ling just looked at the closed door of the treatment room expressionlessly.

Pei Qing arrived at this time. He found the emergency department of the hospital and saw Zhan Weiyang sitting outside the treatment room from a distance, so he walked toward him.

Zhan Weiyang blinked and suddenly seemed to feel something. He turned his head to take a look and immediately stood up.

Xie Ling noticed his movements and looked towards him.

Zhan Weiyang walked quickly toward Pei Qing. He actually wanted to reach out and hug Pei Qing, but he stopped again when he reached Pei Qing. He was too embarrassed to reach out and just looked up at him and shouted, “Qing ge.”

Pei Qing also stopped and asked him, “How is Chen Youyou?”

Zhan Weiyang raised his finger to his forehead, “Here,” and then compared the length of about two centimetres with his thumb and index finger, “It’s such a long gash.” His tone was full of anxiety.

Pei Qing nodded, raised his hand and touched Zhan Weiyang’s back, leading him toward the treatment room, “Are there any other injuries?”

Zhan Weiyang shook his head, “No more.”

Pei Qing asked, “No concussion or anything, right?”

       Zhan Weiyang said, “No.”

Pei Qing said calmly, “Then it’s nothing. Don’t worry.”

The two of them sat down on chairs outside the treatment room. Zhan Weiyang tilted his head to look at Pei Qing and asked, “Really?”

Pei Qing looked at him and nodded slightly after a while, “Really.”

Zhan Weiyang seemed relieved and said, “That’s good.”

Pei Qing smiled and asked him, “Are you scared?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “It’s all my fault. Chen Youyou got hurt all because of me.” His head drooped unconsciously, “And I haven’t told his parents yet.”

Pei Qing raised his hand, patted Zhan Weiyang’s shoulder, and then looked at Xie Ling sitting next to Zhan Weiyang. Pei Qing had always had a good memory. He remembered that he had met this young man once, so he said to Zhan Weiyang, “Is this your classmate?”

Xie Ling had been looking at them since Pei Qing arrived and only turned away when they sat down next to him.

Zhan Weiyang suddenly felt nervous. He stood up, faced Pei Qing and said, “He is Xie Ling, from our school.” Then he said to Xie Ling, “This is my older cousin.”

Pei Qing let out a soft ‘Ah’, and said, “Is he Xie Ling?”

Xie Ling nodded to Pei Qing and turned away, still looking at the door of the treatment room.

Pei Qing asked Zhan Weiyang who was standing in front of him, “So what is going on?”

Zhan Weiyang was stunned. He glanced at Xie Ling secretly and whispered, “It’s nothing.”

Xie Ling suddenly said, “I accidentally hit him while riding my bike.”

Zhan Weiyang looked at Xie Ling again. He pinched his fingers uncomfortably and said, “No, it’s all my fault.”

Pei Qing thought that maybe there was an accident when a few high school students were playing around. He could only say, “Go and apologize to Chen Youyou and his parents. Just learn from it and be careful in the future so that no more accidents happen.”

At this time, the door to the treatment room opened, and Chen Youyou walked out of it with gauze on his forehead and a dazed look on his face.

When he saw Pei Qing, he was stunned for a moment, and then shouted, “Older cousin.”

Pei Qing stood up, stretched out a hand toward him, and said, “Come here and let me take a look.”

Chen Youyou walked over obediently and stood in front of Pei Qing.

There was gauze on his forehead, so Pei Qing looked around the gauze and inside the hair to make sure there were no other wounds, and then asked, “Is there anything else that feels uncomfortable?”

Chen Youyou had been struggling all the way from the injury to the present. When he heard Pei Qing’s gentle question, he suddenly felt aggrieved. He shook his head and said, “N-nothing more, older cousin.” As if Pei Qing was his older cousin.

Pei Qing turned to the doctor who came out from inside and asked if Chen Youyou had any other issues.

The doctor, noticing that Pei Qing was slightly older, called him into the office. There, he explained some precautions to Pei Qing and gave him a prescription to pay for. He also mentioned that he needed to receive a tetanus shot.

As soon as Pei Qing got the bill in his hand, Xie Ling grabbed it and said, “I’ll go, I’m the one who hit him.” After saying that, he quickly walked towards the payment window.

“What’s going on?” Pei Qing turned around and asked Zhan Weiyang and Chen Youyou.

Chen Youyou and Zhan Weiyang looked at each other, then chased after Xie Ling. He snatched the payment form back from Xie Ling and said, “Not, you, I’ll pay it, myself.”

Zhan Weiyang quickly caught up with him and said, “I’ll do it, I’ll do it.”

Xie Ling glanced at Chen Youyou and reached out to get the prescription back.

Chen Youyou quickly stepped aside and then ran forward with the payment slip in both hands. Zhan Weiyang quickly chased after him, saying, “Give it to me, give it to me.”

Xie Ling stood there watching them, and then Pei Qing came over. He said to Pei Qing, “Then I’ll leave first.” Then he walked towards the hospital gate.

Pei Qing didn’t say anything, and his eyes fell on the two people in front of the payment window.

Zhan Weiyang kept trying to grab the bill, but Chen Youyou stepped on his feet and raised the bill high with one hand while shaking it left and right, trying not to let Zhan Weiyang take it.

Until the nurse who charged the fee became angry and shouted, “Do you want to pay? If you don’t pay, get out of the window!”

The two of them were startled. Zhan Weiyang had the same pale face as Chen Youyou. Chen Youyou immediately stuffed the bill into the window.

The author has something to say:
In the main text, there won’t be a subplot for secondary couples, but occasionally I might feel like writing some side stories. However, there’s no guarantee that I’ll always feel like it, so please don’t expect secondary couples. But if you really mind having secondary couples, you might want to reconsider following the story.

At first, when I was torn between the two types of gong; older cousin and school bully. What I actually wanted to write was not this article, nor was it a story about this kind of shou in Zhan Weiyang. Later, after I decided on the shou’s persona, I felt Yangyang is still more suitable to be with the older cousin. If he is with Xie Ling, I think Xie Ling will suffer a lot in the future. After all, this is a short, sweet article!

Notes:
I have no excuse really, I’ve been slacking in translating (not only just this series actually) because I haven’t been in my best mood overall and since I don’t want to half-assed the translation I’d rather just put this on hold and translate later when my overall mood is better
Sorry for the long wait! I’ll still try to keep up a 1x/week schedule (ˊ ꒳ ˋ)

Chapter 21

During the last self-study class in the afternoon, Zhan Weiyang poked Chen Youyou on the back from the back row.

Chen Youyou raised his head and saw that the teacher was not in the classroom. He also confirmed that the homeroom teacher was not outside the window before turning to the back.

Zhan Weiyang tried his best to get close to his ear and whispered, “I don’t know how to stop Xie Ling when school is over.”

Chen Youyou immediately wanted to turn back.

Zhan Weiyang quickly grabbed Chen Youyou’s collar and said, “But we can take a taxi and wait for him in front.”

Chen Youyou frowned. He felt that Zhan Weiyang was right, but why didn’t he think of it? He kept thinking about how to stop Xie Ling.

When Zhan Weiyang saw that Chen Youyou was silent, he thought that Chen Youyou disapproved of him, so he asked cautiously, “How is it?”

Chen Youyou said, “Let’s talk after class.” Then he turned back.

By the end of class, he said to Zhan Weiyang, “It, should be okay.”

Zhan Weiyang was very happy, and the two agreed to stop Xie Ling near a deserted underground commercial street on his way home from school.

The underground commercial street was parallel to the street next to it. There were not many pedestrians on the street, and the commercial street where it was built was even more deserted with all the shops tightly closed. The last time they followed Xie Ling home on bikes, they noticed Xie Ling would take a shortcut through the underground commercial street. The terrain and environment there were relatively complex, making it perfect for them to lay in ambush.

In the evening, when Zhan Weiyang was doing his schoolwork at his room’s desk, he flipped his workbook to a blank page and drew a road map on it.

Zhan Weiyang could not remember the actual topography of that commercial street clearly, but he searched for pictures on the Internet and could barely draw a rough map. He then marked himself and Chen Youyou with small circles on it, and then drew another circle and blackened the inside to mark Xie Ling.

He held the pen between his fingers and kept tapping his head, thinking about what he would do next. He asked Yu ge and the others to stop Xie Ling, grab his collar and ask him to give him money, and then he rushed out and asked them to let go of him. He would pretend to beat the person away, and then he could chat with Xie Ling.

Xie Ling would definitely thank him. He would then say it was all good and send Xie Ling home.

“What are you drawing?” When Zhan Weiyang was lost in thought, Pei Qing’s voice suddenly came from above his head.

Zhan Weiyang was almost frightened out of his wits. He subconsciously raised his hand to block the workbook and said, “It’s nothing.”

His drawings were ugly, like ghost talisman drawings. Pei Qing didn’t understand what he was painting at all, but when he raised his hand to cover it, Pei Qing wanted to know.

Pei Qing had just finished taking a bath, exuding a moist and warm scent and the fragrance of shower gel. She sat down by Zhan Weiyang’s bed, looked at Zhan Weiyang and said, “So as long as I’m not here, you won’t study well, huh?”

       Zhan Weiyang said, “I didn’t…”

Pei Qing said, “Then what are you drawing that you dare not show me?”

Zhan Weiyang lowered his head, slowly moved his arm away, and took a look at the route map he drew. After hesitating for a while, he still didn’t want Pei Qing to be unhappy, so he picked up the workbook and brought it to Pei Qing to show him.

Pei Qing stared at the lines and circles above and asked, “Are you playing backgammon?”

       Zhan Weiyang shook his head.

Pei Qing said, “What is that?”

Zhan Weiyang pointed to the upper circle and said, “This is me.” Then pointed to another circle, “This is Chen Youyou.”

Pei Qing raised her finger to the black circle, “What about this one?”

Zhan Weiyang stared at the black circle for a long time before replying, “This is Xie Ling.”

Pei Qing had heard the name Xie Ling more than once. He asked Zhan Weiyang, “Who is Xie Ling?”

Zhan Weiyang replied, “A classmate.” He didn’t know why, but when he answered Pei Qing’s question, he suddenly felt guilty and unconsciously dug his fingers into his pants.

In the end, Pei Qing did not continue to ask further questions and just said, “So what are you doing?”

Zhan Weiyang suddenly had an epiphany and said, “Hide and seek?” After saying that, he secretly looked at Pei Qing’s expression.

For a moment, Pei Qing’s expression was complicated, and finally, he said, “Okay, continue reading. You must finish your homework today.”

Zhan Weiyang said quickly, “Okay.” He went back to the table, tore off the page and continued to work on the questions.

The two of them stayed quietly in a room, and time gradually passed. When Zhan Weiyang finished writing the homework that had to be completed today, it was already past ten o’clock in the evening.

He yawned and stretched his hands.

Pei Qing closed the book in his hand, stood up from Zhan Weiyang’s bedside, and said, “Can you sleep by yourself tonight?”

Zhan Weiyang stretched halfway and put his hands down in a hurry. He looked at Pei Qing and asked, “Why?”

Pei Qing put one hand in the pocket of his pyjamas and held a book in the other and said, “Do you want to sleep with me all the time?”

       Zhan Weiyang said, “Yes.”

Pei Qing asked, “When will it end?”

Zhan Weiyang thought for a while and then fell into a brief tangle. He found that he didn’t know how to answer this question.

Pei Qing said, “I’ll only intern here for six months, then I’ll be returning to school.”

Zhan Weiyang looked at Pei Qing and asked tentatively, “Then can I sleep with you until you leave?”

“Why do you have to sleep with me?”

“I don’t want to sleep alone.”

“Then did you sleep with your father and brother before?”

“Sometimes I sleep with my father, not my brother.” Zhan Weiguang never slept with him.

“Is your father coming back next month?”

       “Dad said so.”

Pei Qing said, “Alright.” These were his last words, and he stopped questioning Zhan Weiyang.

Zhan Weiyang breathed a sigh of relief, feeling like he had passed the exam. He followed Pei Qing to his room and closed the door very gently as if he were afraid of disturbing Pei Qing, who would then kick him out.

After Pei Qing returned to the room, he turned on the desk lamp and sat beside the bed, put his laptop on his lap and opened it.

Zhan Weiyang quietly climbed onto the bed from the other side, lifted the quilt and tucked himself in, lying on his side and looking at Pei Qing.

Pei Qing looked at him after a while and said, “Will it affect your sleep if I turn on the computer?”

       Zhan Weiyang shook his head.

Pei Qing reached out, covered Zhan Weiyang’s eyes, and said, “Then you go to sleep, I’ll watch a movie for a while.”

Tomorrow was Saturday. Although Zhan Weiyang had to do make-up classes, Pei Qing didn’t need to go to work. He wanted to finish watching the remaining half of a movie.

He turned off the desk lamp, put on his headphones, and sat quietly on the bed watching a movie.

Zhan Weiyang closed his eyes and couldn’t fall asleep for a while, so he secretly opened his eyes again and gently approached Pei Qing to look at his computer screen.

Pei Qing was watching a foreign movie. When Zhan Weiyang came closer to watch it, the male and female protagonists happened to be hugging each other and kissing. The scene was a bit intense.

The light blue fluorescence of the computer screen shone on their faces, and Zhan Weiyang’s head almost rested on Pei Qing’s shoulder.

Suddenly, Pei Qing reached out and covered Zhan Weiyang’s eyes, and said, “Don’t look.”

Zhan Weiyang didn’t wear headphones and couldn’t hear the sound of the movie. He didn’t know what the male and female lead were doing now. He just asked, “Why?”

Pei Qing’s voice was very soft and she said in his ear, “Children are not allowed to watch.”

Zhan Weiyang’s heartbeat became faster for no reason, and he said, “I’m not a child.”

Pei Qing said, “You are. I’m counting to three, two, one, and you should turn around and go to sleep.” After saying that, he started counting down with almost no pause, “Three—”

Zhan Weiyang suddenly turned over and lay down with his back to Pei Qing. He pulled the quilt over his head and said, “I’m asleep.”

In the end, he kept counting until he finished counting. Zhan Weiyang closed his eyes and fell asleep very quickly. He didn’t know when Pei Qing fell asleep.

This chapter was written in a bit of a hurry, but I still managed to update it before ten o’clock.
