Chapter 90 – I’m guessing he will not marry you

Chapter 90 – I’m guessing he will not marry you

After a simple visit, we didn’t enter the school.

Lu Shifeng said to Jian Luo, “Don’t go to crowded places.”

Jian Luo asked with a soulful inquiry, “Why?”

“To avoid trouble,” Lu Shifeng stood by Jian Luo’s side. “It will be easier for you to adapt to the environment once you return.”

Jian Luo felt dizzy and didn’t understand much. In the end, he only grasped the phrase about adapting to the environment. The rest didn’t really faze him. Well, that part about adapting did shake him. Recalling the hardships of morning sickness, he instantly became obedient.

The leader said, “Basically, our entire city is like this.”

Jian Luo looked at the empty spaces. “Aren’t these areas being utilized?”

After all, the protective shield wasn’t that large. If these spaces were left empty, it would indeed be wasteful, wouldn’t it?

The leader explained, “These areas are reserved as artillery positions for defense against external enemies. The forest over there is not very safe, and during winter, there may be wild beast attacks. Without proper preparation, it can be dangerous.”

Speaking of which, the leader looked at Jian Luo meaningfully, a hint of irony appearing on his dark face. “You guys probably don’t need to worry.”

“…”

Jian Luo was speechless. If you really thought about it, you couldn’t deny the leader’s words. Compared to these concerns, their lives might be better here. Not to mention that even in the Dark Star, they were considered refugees. But there, they only had to endure discrimination, not life-threatening danger.

Jian Luo furrowed his brows. “How long does winter last?”

The leader answered, “Two months.”

It was coming soon. Jian Luo sighed inwardly. Land beside him said, “Had enough sightseeing?”

“Okay.”

“Rest for a while.” Lu Shifeng led Jian Luo to a nearby pavilion. “Don’t stand for too long.”

Jian Luo obediently sat in the pavilion. If he didn’t rest, he didn’t feel much different. But once he sat down, he felt a bit thirsty and licked his lips, struggling to endure.

Lu Shifeng said, “Do you want some water?”

Jian Luo was surprised. “You know that too?”

Lu Shifeng didn’t explain much, just took a water bottle from the storage space of his information bracelet and handed it to Jian Luo.

“You carried water with you.”

“It’s not like everyone is as empty-handed as you when they disembark from a warship.”

“…”

Jian Luo took a few sips of water and then offered it to Lu Shifeng. “Are you thirsty?”

The cup was handed to Lu Shifeng’s face. If his secretary were here right now, she would surely be astonished because Lu Shifeng’s level of fussiness was quite terrifying, not to mention using a cup that someone else had already drunk from.

But Jian Luo didn’t notice this peculiar detail at the moment and continued to hold the cup.

Lu Shifeng’s gaze fell on Jian Luo’s hand. There was a trace of scrutiny in his dark eyes. After a moment of silence, just when Jian Luo started feeling a bit strange, he raised his head. He saw Lu Shifeng coincidentally taking the cup from his hand and taking a sip of water.

Though it wasn’t a particularly ambiguous action, Lu Shifeng didn’t make any suggestive gestures. However, as Jian Luo continued watching, he suddenly felt uneasy.

“Cough…” Jian Luo lightly coughed and then turned to the leader not far away. “Actually, I have a question.”

The leader quickly said, “What is it?”

Jian Luo asked curiously, “How do you handle illnesses here? I mean, when you get sick.”

This question wasn’t out of place, and the leader relaxed a bit upon hearing it. He answered, “We have doctors. For serious illnesses, we rely on imported alien medicines. For less serious ones, we have military doctors who use our own medicines.”

Jian Luo’s eyes lit up. “Can I go and see?”

The leader nodded.

Jian Luo looked at Lu Shifeng. “Are you coming?”

Lu Shifeng furrowed his brows and looked Jian Luo up and down. “Are you sick?”

Jian Luo justified himself, “No, I just want to see if I can contribute to medical care.”

“…”

Lu Shifeng’s blood-red eyes quietly stared at Jian Luo, making him feel somewhat embarrassed.

“What do you mean?” Jian Luo became irritated.

Lu Shifeng withdrew his gaze and calmly said, “Your courage is commendable.”

“…”

You arrogant dog! Just wait!

Accompanied by the leader, Jian Luo visited the doctor in the city. He roughly understood the local procedures. Their indigenous medicines were made from herbs, and although Earth’s herbs had gone through thousands of years, their medicinal properties hadn’t changed. The so-called imported alien medicines were probably nutrient solutions.

Jian Luo contemplated for a while. “What’s the likelihood of getting sick here?”

The doctor, aware that he was dealing with an important guest, responded politely, “Fifty percent. During bad weather, people may experience headaches and fever, but it usually occurs in children. Adults here generally don’t get sick easily.”

Jian Luo nodded as if he understood.

If he thought about it his way, the birth rate and disease rate here had probably gone through natural selection.

After touring the place, Jian Luo’s mind was filled with various plans. If they really entrusted Earth to him, how could he maximize their benefits with his existing abilities? If they had to, they would definitely need to take a commercial route. He kept looking for the location of the food factory. Now, if he looked at it, establishing the food factory here within the protected area would be a good idea.

But there were also significant issues. The average education level here was quite low, and with the constant threat of wild beast attacks, establishing a food factory seemed too risky.

Thinking about this, Jian Luo sat down in a chair and asked the doctor, “If wild beasts attack during the winter here, how serious is the situation?”

The doctor put down his pen and replied, “In general, during the winter, hungry wild beasts become more aggressive. Our leader led us to excavate an underground city some years ago, and all our food reserves are stored there. We stop hunting during the winter, and some continue to produce energy stones to maintain the protective shield.”

Jian Luo asked, “Are there casualties?”

“Definitely,” the doctor nodded. “The mines where we produce energy stones are hot and enclosed. Normally, wild beasts don’t dare to approach, so the number of deaths is not too high.”

Jian Luo pondered.

So, the biggest problems now were solving two things. First, the issue of Earth’s magnetic field. If they didn’t need energy stones to maintain it directly, it would save a lot of effort and resources. Second, dealing with these mutants. Even if they wanted to build a factory, they needed to ensure the cleanliness and safety of the food.

The doctor said, “Mr. Jian, if you don’t mind me being forward, I’d like to ask a question.”

Jian Luo snapped back to attention. “Go ahead.”

“What’s your relationship with that marshal?” The doctor pushed up his glasses and quickly added, “I don’t mean to be intrusive, but I couldn’t help but wonder since you two seem… close.”

Jian Luo paused and didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he asked, “What do you think?”

This question stumped the doctor. However, seeing that Jian Luo was straightforward and not concealing anything, he said honestly, “You’re pregnant, I assume? You’re carrying his child?”

Jian Luo raised an eyebrow.

“But you two probably aren’t married, right?” The doctor smiled and added, “I guess the Dark Star doesn’t marry people like you, especially someone of his high status.”

Jian Luo pursed his lips, sat back in the chair, and propped his chin with one hand. “You’re right.”

The doctor cleared his throat nervously.

Jian Luo didn’t feel embarrassed. He knew very well what he was and what he wasn’t. Even though he had some feelings for Lu Shifeng, it didn’t mean he had to marry someone of that caliber. They would all have to part ways eventually; there was no need to get sentimental over trivial matters.

Jian Luo looked at the doctor and noticed that he also had a wristband. “Want to become friends?”

The doctor was momentarily surprised but nodded. “Sure.”

They added each other as friends, and Jian Luo stood up. “Well, I should be going.”

“Wait!” The doctor stood up too.

Jian Luo paused and turned to look at him.

“Um, you…” The doctor hesitated and then pursed his lips, finally saying, “Will the Dark Star invade us?”

Jian Luo raised an eyebrow. Though he was not very tall compared to the Earth’s standards, he appeared quite refined here. But paradoxically, it was this unassuming appearance that seemed to exude an invisible pressure. It almost scared the doctor to the point of losing his composure.

The doctor’s heart raced with nervousness.

Jian Luo smiled wryly. “Speculation won’t do any good.”

After saying this, he left.

In the remaining few days, Jian Luo began to study the base’s layout carefully. As a member of the same species, he didn’t encounter much resistance here, and some even welcomed him warmly.

Jian Luo took many photos and collected samples of various herbs. Rushing things would not be wise; after all, the Earth was not in danger at the moment. They had enough time to plan how to utilize this planet.

Finally, the day to leave arrived.

Compared to before, this time Jian Luo had someone to see him off. Lu Shifeng lowered his head and said something to the leader, while Jian Luo explained things to Aya.

Jian Luo said, “We’ve added each other as friends. Remember to keep in touch with me.”

Aya nodded.

“If you believe me, try to persuade your husband. Cooperation with the Dark Star is beneficial and harmless. To avoid being engulfed, you must first protect yourselves and then seek external development. Rejecting everything foreign will only lead to decline.” Jian Luo patted Aya’s hand. “Tasteless resistance will only bring sorrow.”

Aya’s eyes welled up with tears. She said, “Luoluo…”

Jian Luo asked, “Yes?”

“Did you also have to compromise and sacrifice yourself?” Aya lowered her voice, her tone somewhat tearful. “You’ve suffered too much.”

Jian Luo hurriedly shook his head. “No, I didn’t.”

Aya scrutinized Jian Luo for a moment, as if trying to confirm the truth of his words. Finally, she reached into her pocket and handed something to Jian Luo. “In that case, take this. From what I’ve observed these past few days, your relationship doesn’t seem very harmonious. Take matters into your own hands.”

“…?”

Chapter 89 – Specialised at treating infertility

Chapter 89 – Specialised at treating infertility

Jian Luo’s heart tightened.

This topic forced him to reminisce about the one and only intimate encounter he had with Lu Shifeng. Truly, don’t be fooled by Lu Shifeng’s usual aloof demeanor; that time, his passion burned like an unquenchable fire, as if devouring a sumptuous meal.

However—

It was only that one time.

Since then, General Lu had put on a completely different facade. It was as if that night had never happened!

Jian Luo choked back his words, “Maybe, I don’t want to.”

“How is that possible?” Aya glanced at him, her tone slightly teasing. “Men always want it, especially if they’ve crossed that line, unless…”

Jian Luo’s curiosity was piqued. “Unless what?”

Aya smiled mysteriously. “Unless there are certain… performance issues.”

Jian Luo’s eyes widened in shock. For a moment, his survival instincts were stronger than Aya’s, and he hastily interrupted her, “Aya!”

Aya stared at him, puzzled. “Lolo, what’s wrong?”

Before Jian Luo could respond, he noticed someone standing at the door. He focused his gaze and saw that it was Lu Shifeng, who had just returned, accompanied by a leader. It seemed that trouble had a knack for finding them.

“…” Jian Luo’s scalp tingled. “When did you guys get back?”

Lu Shifeng gave him a nonchalant glance but remained silent.

Jian Luo felt incredibly uneasy under Lu Shifeng’s gaze and silently prayed that the boss hadn’t heard anything. It’s not like he couldn’t perform!

The leader behind them cleared his throat, attempting to ease the awkward atmosphere. “Esteemed guests, today I’d like to show you around our base.”

Jian Luo quickly took over the conversation, standing up. “Sure, that sounds great.”

Anything to avoid standing here looking foolish!

Lu Shifeng asked, “Have you eaten?”

“Huh?” Jian Luo blinked, then slowly realized and somewhat guiltily admitted, “Oh, I forgot.”

The food here didn’t look particularly appealing, but it smelled delicious. Perhaps it was due to being a breakfast menu with simple choices. Jian Luo glanced at Lu Shifeng, confirmed there was no objection, and began to eat. It wasn’t because of anything else but the fear of upsetting the magnetic field. It wouldn’t be good if this food was harmful to little dragons.

The leader and Aya left to eat separately to avoid disturbing their meal.

Jian Luo looked at Lu Shifeng and asked, “Dragon brother, are you hungry? Would you like to have something?”

“No need,” Lu Shifeng replied as he sat beside Jian Luo. He glanced at Jian Luo meaningfully. “I can endure.”

Jian Luo’s movements stuttered, and he almost choked on his food.

Was he bluffing or did he actually hear it?

This was getting tricky.

They finished breakfast with Jian Luo’s heart pounding, but he unexpectedly discovered that despite the unappetizing appearance of the fauna and flora here, the taste was quite good. It was just like the normal Earth food he used to eat. In fact, with a bit of responsibility, the taste might even be better.

It seemed that even with the highly restored soil of the Dark Star, it couldn’t completely replicate the ability to nurture Earth’s seeds to perfection.

After the meal, the leader and Aya returned.

Aya asked Jian Luo, “Lolo, where do you want to visit the most?”

“The energy stones,” Jian Luo replied without hesitation. “I want to see how they are manufactured. Is that possible?”

Aya seemed surprised but still replied, “Of course.”

Lu Shifeng, naturally, had no objections, and neither did the leader. After all, something like the production of energy stones was not meant to be kept secret.

The group arrived at the energy stone mine, and as they approached, the heat grew more intense. People and armored vehicles were constantly shuttling back and forth, transporting stones in and out. There were nearly ten openings emitting hot air.

The leader explained, “We rely on mining minerals as a source of energy to maintain the daily needs of our protective shield.”

Jian Luo furrowed his brow. “How much manpower is required daily?”

The leader didn’t expect this question but answered honestly, “If we calculate it realistically, I would estimate that more than half of the men are needed, with the rest engaged in hunting, excluding women and children.”

Jian Luo nodded in understanding.

Since the interior of the energy stone mine was heated, it was not convenient to enter directly, so Jian Luo tactfully didn’t ask to go inside.

While touring the base, he spotted a school. Jian Luo pointed and asked, “Is that where the students study?”

“Yes,” the leader replied, glancing at it. “Children study there until they are old enough to work.”

Jian Luo furrowed his brow. He had already figured out the current situation on this planet. It was incredibly challenging to develop here, even less prosperous than Earth in the 21st century. What limited their development was the environment.

In ancient Earth history, there were five thousand years of uninterrupted development without magnetic field interference. If they wanted to free up resources, the first thing to tackle was the magnetic field issue, even though it was a difficult problem to solve.

“Ouch…”

As they continued walking, Jian Luo accidentally bumped his foot on a stone slab, causing a sharp pain.

Lu Shifeng, who was nearby, frowned. “Watch your step.”

“Okay,” Jian Luo replied.

He wanted to continue walking but found that the pain from the injury persisted. So, he chose to stand in place and wait for the pain to subside.

Lu Shifeng simply lifted him horizontally.

Jian Luo exclaimed in surprise and instinctively hugged Lu Shifeng’s neck, fearing that he might fall. He also added, “I’m quite heavy.”

“So what?” Lu Shifeng raised an eyebrow. “Even if I’m not ready, I can still carry you.”

Jian Luo blushed a little and averted his gaze. “I didn’t say that.”

“Hmm,” Lu Shifeng drawled. “After all, I know best whether I can or cannot carry you.”

Jian Luo chose to ignore that comment.

In reality, he didn’t really doubt Lu Shifeng’s ability to carry him. The General’s strength was truly astonishing, and in retrospect, Jian Luo wanted to give himself a pat on the back for still being alive.

But this brought up another question. Jian Luo asked, “What happened to you that night? You seemed really scared.”

Lu Shifeng, holding him like a featherweight toy, casually replied, “Dragon mating season.”

Jian Luo choked and shivered. “Do you have a fixed mating season?”

Lu Shifeng said, “Yes.”

Jian Luo breathed a sigh of relief.

“So, it happened before you became a dragon,” Lu Shifeng continued, a hint of amusement in his eyes. “After that, it never occurred again.”

Jian Luo blinked. “Did you… count the days until you could become a dragon?”

Lu Shifeng walked slowly, responding, “Dragon transformations aren’t determined by age but by the time you first engage in sexual activity.”

Jian Luo choked again.

That was incredibly hard to guard against! It wasn’t as if he could easily enter a mating period, right?

Trying to console himself and not display everything on his face, Jian Luo glanced at Lu Shifeng, who seemed to be aware of his thoughts.

To tease Jian Luo for his morning grumbling, Lu Shifeng leisurely remarked, “According to the books, during the first eight months of pregnancy, it’s best to avoid strenuous activities. If you have any desires…”

!!!!!

Jian Luo hastily interjected, “I don’t have any desires!”

Due to his excitement, his voice unintentionally carried, and the leader walking ahead turned around curiously, observing Jian Luo.

Jian Luo’s face turned crimson. He couldn’t explain, but not explaining was also not an option. Unfortunately, the curiosity of the group persisted as they continued to stare.

“What are you all looking at?” Jian Luo’s voice was small, filled with embarrassment, as he buried his face in Lu Shifeng’s embrace. “Can’t we chat about something else?”

A faint smile tugged at the corner of Lu Shifeng’s lips.

The group finally arrived at the school, which was quite large. Each classroom could hold sixty to seventy children, and there were several such classrooms. Next to the school was the base’s breeding facility, where various animals were raised—likely for reserves. In case external circumstances prevented hunting, these animals would serve as the primary food source.

Jian Luo noticed a peculiar phenomenon and remarked, “You have a lot of children here. It seems the birth rate is quite high on this side.”

In their paradise, the birth rate was low, and even the school couldn’t fill all the seats.

The leader responded, “In our base, pregnant husbands always give birth to twins.”

Jian Luo widened his eyes. “Is it a probability issue, or is it always like this?”

“It’s always like this,” the leader replied and, as if to provide proof, pointed to the nearby breeding area. He said proudly, “The animals we raise here also have a high reproduction rate. Of course, our casualty rate is not low either. Gathering energy, hunting—there are sacrifices every day. And these animals in the breeding facility come and go daily as well.”

Jian Luo found it unbelievable. Based on what he knew, the birth rate of their species shouldn’t be that high. Was it due to natural selection, or was it because of the magnetic field? Was it a result of their species’ unique physiology, or did it apply to Earth’s surviving species after the magnetic field changed? If it was the latter, did this magnetic field have some kind of enhancement?

Jian Luo subtly turned his head to glance at Lu Shifeng.

Chapter 88 – Are you both not passionately in love?

Chapter 88 – Are you both not passionately in love?

In Jian Luo’s stunned gaze, Lu Shifeng withdrew his eyes first and said, “Since you’re here, it’s just to take a look, get familiar.”

“…”

This was too empty!

Jian Luo was speechless, but at the same time, there was a slight excitement, accompanied by a sense of unease.

If he were to accept a set of rooms, he could do so with a clear conscience.

Who knew the hardship of pregnancy better than him? Sleepless nights, loss of appetite during the day, everything felt heavy after conceiving. Many things he wanted to do became impossible, and in the end, he had to give up.

Enduring suffering for over ten months, he could accept it with a clear heart.

But, but he never expected Lu Shifeng to be like this. Lu Shifeng, you’re really terrifying! How could there be such a frightening gift in this world? Is this even believable? It’s simply unimaginable!

Just as he was thinking, the leader approached.

The leader was tall and imposing, and he bowed slightly, saying, “Esteemed guest, please follow me.”

Lu Shifeng walked with Jian Luo. Actually, in the forest outside, the humans, like Jian Luo, also had protective gear, but since entering this tall city wall, they had removed it.

The leader, with a hoarse voice, said, “You don’t need protective suits in here.”

Lu Shifeng casually remarked, “Maintaining your protective shields must be costly.”

As he spoke, the general removed his own face mask and looked at Jian Luo. He reached out and pressed a button, causing Jian Luo’s protective suit to retract automatically. Without the stuffy suit, he felt much more comfortable.

The leader said, “I’ve used almost all of our power to maintain this protective shield.”

Tea was brought in, but Lu Shifeng didn’t touch it.

Jian Luo looked at the tea and smelled a herbal fragrance. Considering the three troublesome ones in his stomach, he didn’t touch it either, for safety’s sake.

Lu Shifeng toyed with the tea cup in his hand and said, “Independence always comes at a price.”

The leader remained silent.

There were four people in the room, Jian Luo and Lu Shifeng, as well as the leader and his wife. The leader’s wife was a very amiable person, and she had been watching Jian Luo since earlier. Seeing that no one was speaking now, she struck up a conversation with him, “Hello.”

Jian Luo hurriedly responded, “Hello.”

She asked, “Are you also human?”

Jian Luo nodded.

“You look so refined, like someone from a history book.” The wife’s rough, yellowed face revealed a shy smile. “Are all the humans from the Dark Star like this?”

With this question, Jian Luo had many things he wanted to ask.

One question he was particularly concerned about was, “You’re human too, so why didn’t you go to the Dark Star’s paradise?”

He used to think that the treatment of humans in the Paradise of the Dark Star was already miserable, but he never imagined that there was still a group of people on this planet who were even more unfortunate than the Dark Star people. In comparison, this place seemed to have a harsh environment, with varying degrees of mutations in the flora and fauna outside. Only those inside the city with protective shields didn’t have to wear protective suits, and it seemed that maintaining these shields required a lot of resources.

The leader’s wife raised an eyebrow. “You don’t know?”

Jian Luo didn’t understand and asked, “Sorry, I’ve lost my memory, so I don’t know many things. Could you explain it to me?”

While Lu Shifeng was chatting with the leader, Jian Luo was engrossed in conversation with the leader’s wife.

Through their conversation, Jian Luo learned that the leader’s wife’s name was Aya and that she was one of the original inhabitants of the planet. From the day she was born, she had been inside this city, along with this group of people who were abandoned years ago. Several escape airships couldn’t rescue all the people on the planet, so for every group that left, there were those who stayed behind. Humans were resilient no matter the circumstances, and those who stayed had their own ways of surviving, different from those who left.

“I don’t really think of myself as pitiful,” Aya said, patting her belly. “At least I live for myself and don’t rely on others.”

Jian Luo asked, “What is used to maintain your protective shield?”

He felt that the technology here was somewhat outdated.

At least from what he could see, he didn’t understand what was used to maintain it.

“Half of it relies on solar energy, and the other half on energy stones.” Aya seemed carefree in her manner of speaking but was gentle in her words. “Energy stones need to be mined, and every day, about half of our people are responsible for mining them, while the rest hunt and farm.”

Jian Luo nodded. “I see.”

Aya was curious about Jian Luo’s life on the Dark Star. “And you, what do you do on the Dark Star?”

“…”

They were farming…

In comparison, life there was quite happy. They were barely surviving, while he was living.

The two were chatting, but not far away, the leader and Lu Shifeng couldn’t reach an agreement. He seemed somewhat agitated, even slamming the table.

Jian Luo looked over, somewhat surprised.

The leader, with a bristling beard and glaring eyes, stubbornly declared, “We don’t accept the ruling of the Dark Star people. You can exploit Earth, even invade us. Even if we can’t beat you, we’ll only die in battle, we will never submit.”

Lu Shifeng sat firmly in his chair, unmoving like a mountain.

The pressure from the Dragon Clan was formidable. Even though he remained silent, that calm aura exerted significant pressure on the leader.

So, despite the leader appearing dominant, Jian Luo even noticed a layer of sweat breaking out on his forehead.

During the standoff, Jian Luo casually interjected, “Um, can I ask a question?”

In an instant, everyone turned to look at him.

Finally, the human leader said, “Go ahead.”

“Wasn’t it said that Earth already belongs to the Dark Stars?” Jian Luo timidly inquired, “Did I remember it wrong?”

He had read in history books that the Dark Star accepted the majority of human refugees, and the Human Federation bestowed Earth’s ownership upon the Dark Star.

The leader’s face fluctuated between pale and green. Eventually, he said, “The Federation never cared about the lives of us people they abandonned!”

Jian Luo’s lips curled into a smile. “Who said that?”

The leader glared at him.

“Placing the planet under the Dark Star’s rule is the best protection,” Jian Luo countered, “If the planet doesn’t belong to the Dark Star, some other aliens will covet it.”

Although Jian Luo didn’t fully understand, he had learned many things following Zhan Wentai. He had learned quite a bit about macro-level matters in the universe. After a bit of explaining, many things made sense.

Jian Luo analyzed for the leader, “As far as I know, higher-level star systems can cultivate 2-3 life-bearing planets. The solar system is considered lower-level and has only cultivated one life-bearing planet, Earth. Despite Earth now not being suitable for human habitation, its resources remain abundant. If it weren’t for it being intercepted by the Dark Star, how could it have remained peaceful for centuries?”

The leader choked up.

Aya also expressed agreement with Jian Luo’s point of view. If they were to break ties with the Dark Star’s Marshal today, it would benefit no one. She stood up quickly, muttered something to her husband, her tone filled with reproach.

Finally, she whispered to Jian Luo, “Don’t be angry. He’s just a bit impulsive, but he’s actually trying to protect me. He’s afraid that if the Dark Star people come here, I won’t have a good life anymore, and…”

Jian Luo continued, “And they won’t look kindly on humans from the Dark Star.”

Aya looked surprised, but quickly nodded. She forced a smile and said, “Yes.”

Being humans, they both understood the situation when they put themselves in each other’s shoes. Jian Luo didn’t know what to say to comfort her, but after some thought, he patted Aya’s hand and said, “Don’t worry, everything will be fine.”

This trip to the planet was quite different from Jian Luo’s impressions of the 21st century. He didn’t know how long he would stay here, but it seemed that Lu Shifeng wasn’t in a hurry to leave. Since the big boss wasn’t in a hurry, he, as the little brother, wouldn’t be uncooperative and decided to stay and play along.

After leaving the council chamber, it was already evening. Aya had arranged the best rooms for both of them, and it was evident that she had put thought into it.

The beds were made of earth, and Jian Luo sat on one, looking at Lu Shifeng. Finally, he asked, “Brother Dragon, why did you bring me here?”

Lu Shifeng, who had finished washing up and was sitting on a chair, half-asleep, replied lazily, “Didn’t I say I brought you here to take a look?”

“…”

Jian Luo wanted to ask further, “The ‘gift’ you mentioned, is it this planet? Can His Majesty agree to it? It’s too precious.”

Lu Shifeng lifted his eyelids to look at him.

Jian Luo felt a bit guilty and said, “What… What’s wrong? I’m just afraid that even if you give it to me, I won’t be able to manage it properly.”

Lu Shifeng, towel in hand, wiped his hair and said, “Haven’t I been teaching you?”

“When did you…?” Jian Luo was surprised and began to ask, but he choked on his words halfway. If they were talking about teaching, was it the things he had been taught by Lord Jiè every day?

After thinking for a moment, Nie Yan also mentioned that when the pup grew a bit older, he would be taught to do business. Lu Shifeng was also familiarizing him with the environment.

Could it be that this wasn’t just prenatal education but teaching him?

Jian Luo looked at Lu Shifeng with a choked voice. “So, you trust me this much?”

Lu Shifeng glanced at him indifferently. “Give you something to do, so you won’t be jumping around with nothing to do all day.”

“…”

What a dog of a man.

Jian Luo’s emotions were complicated, and for this bold guess, he hadn’t slept well all night. When he woke up the next morning, Lu Shifeng had already left.

He saw Aya coming in slowly when he was getting up. Behind her, someone was carrying breakfast, and she smiled, “It’s time for breakfast.”

Jian Luo said, “Thank you.”

When they were walking, Jian Luo noticed that Aya seemed to have some trouble with her posture, which hadn’t been the case yesterday. Out of kindness, he asked, “Are you feeling unwell?”

Aya’s steps faltered, and for some reason, Jian Luo felt that she seemed a bit shy.

Jian Luo quickly said, “I’m sorry, that was abrupt.”

“It’s okay.” Aya turned around, supporting her belly, and sat down. She looked at Jian Luo shyly. “It’s all because my husband was too impatient and made you see a joke.”

“…”

Jian Luo choked.

Just as he was feeling down, Aya said something that made him even more choked up, “So, have you and your husband never been intimate? Can he endure it?”

Chapter 87 – The most extreme delivery room in the world

Chapter 87 – The most extreme delivery room in the world

When Jian Luo heard Lu Shifeng’s words, he tensed up, and a bold guess formed in his mind, one he could hardly believe.

In an instant, a multitude of thoughts raced through his mind, and this idea sent his heart pounding, even causing him to tremble with fear. He had read about the history of human development in books, from the late 21st century into the technological boom of the 22nd century. In the 23rd century, humans had officially established space stations and established contact with other planets in the universe. Initially, this exchange of technological information should have been a very good thing, but the troubling part was that the Earth’s core had changed, the environment had drastically altered, viruses had erupted, the oceans had swallowed the land, and the Earth had become a living hell. All of this was recorded in books, and it was chilling to read. If he were to go down there now, he feared he might not be able to handle it.

Lu Shifeng held his hand. “Let’s go.”

Jian Luo hesitated. He stood still, his brows unconsciously furrowing, and when he made eye contact with Lu Shifeng, he appeared somewhat pitiful.

Lu Shifeng asked, “What’s wrong?”

“Go? Go where?” Jian Luo’s hand even began to sweat slightly. “I’m feeling a bit anxious.”

Lu Shifeng calmly looked at him. “To the place you’ve always wanted to go.”

“…”

Alright, he was ready.

Jian Luo took a deep breath, stepped through the cabin door, and looked up at the world outside. He had mentally prepared himself for facing a vast ocean and a devastated world. But then…

“Chirp, chirp.”

A crisp bird call rang out, seemingly illuminating the entire world. Jian Luo timidly opened his eyes and what met his gaze was a lush green forest. There was no ocean, no imagined virus-ridden zombies, and certainly no world in ruins. It was quiet and full of life, like a very ordinary forest on Earth.

Jian Luo hesitated. “Is this… Earth?”

Lu Shifeng glanced at him. “What do you think?”

This was different from what he had imagined. Jian Luo disembarked from the warship, and he could even say he set foot on the land with a sense of trepidation. Branches made a crisp “crack” as he stepped on them, and then he heard the delightful chirping of birds, a pleasant sound to his ears.

Looking at everything before him, Jian Luo couldn’t help but inquire, “This looks quite different from what’s in the history books.”

Lu Shifeng stood behind him and said, “The ecosystem can repair itself automatically.”

True, just like how the dinosaurs had once ruled.

Jian Luo was puzzled. “Then, if that’s the case, why hasn’t anyone come to Earth? The Earth’s ecosystem should be fine, right?”

Lu Shifeng glanced at him. “Do you think it’s fine?”

Jian Luo nodded.

General Lu didn’t say much more. He simply took out a Sacred Dragon Fruit from his protective suit and tossed it onto the ground. Without the protection of the suit, the Sacred Dragon Fruit underwent a drastic transformation upon contact with the air. The fruit’s body began to emit heat, and it gradually began to shake before splitting into four or five pieces.

Jian Luo widened his eyes. “What’s happening?”

“Do you think it’s okay because you’re wearing a protective suit?” Lu Shifeng pointed to a bird in a nearby tree. “Look.”

Jian Luo looked up and saw that the bird was rather peculiar. It had four legs and only one eye, and it was quietly staring at him. For a moment, it seemed like the entire atmosphere had become strange.

Jian Luo suddenly felt goosebumps all over his body.

Lu Shifeng said, “Although it’s different, according to satellite monitoring, there are still humans living on Earth.”

Jian Luo was bemused. He cautiously moved forward, observing the forest and said, “Are there… two groups of humans?”

Lu Shifeng looked around, his eyes slightly darkened, and he lowered his voice. “Let him explain it to you.”

As soon as he finished speaking, the surrounding forest suddenly rustled. A group of people leaped out from the bushes. Their skin was dark, and they were adorned with white bone decorations all over their bodies. They wore half-masks on their faces, and they were tall and formidable, giving off an intimidating aura.

Jian Luo took a step back.

However, if the military dared to send them down, they were certainly not to be trifled with. In an instant, Jian Luo’s information bracelet automatically triggered a protective barrier, and a column of soldiers descended from the warship.

Lu Shifeng stood calmly by Jian Luo’s side, observing the group of people emerging from the forest.

Jian Luo jumped nervously and whispered, “Who are they?”

Lu Shifeng gave him a glance and asked, “Can’t you tell?”

“… I can’t.”

He really couldn’t tell.

It seemed that there was a leader among this group of people. He saw the row of dragon clan soldiers and appeared somewhat tense. The group of people exchanged glances, seemingly hesitant about whether to attack.

The dragon clan soldiers appeared more composed, accustomed to battle, and they naturally didn’t take this minor disturbance too seriously. When the atmosphere became tense, one person stepped forward from the group. He took a cautious look at them and spoke in a stiff language, “Are you… a Dark Star citizen?”

After speaking, he also looked at Jian Luo, squinting his eyes and examining him closely.

The deputy handed over an interstellar pass to him and said, “Normal landing. Mercury has been under the jurisdiction of Dark Star for 12 years. Please don’t make it difficult for me.”

The leader and his teammates chattered among themselves for a while.

Jian Luo looked at Lu Shifeng with concern. “Is everything okay?”

Lu Shifeng stood calmly beside him. “If there’s a problem, it’s with him. Don’t worry.”

“…”

That was tough.

After some negotiations on the other side, it seemed that they had finally come to an agreement. Their leader took a step forward, bowed to the group, and then spoke in the stiff Dark Star language, “Welcome, guests.”

Jian Luo said, “You can also speak Earth’s language. We can understand both.”

The leader raised his head and looked at Jian Luo with a meaningful expression.

Lu Shifeng waved his hand, signaling others to put away their weapons, and said, “It’s abrupt to visit like this, but we’ve brought a little gift. We hope you won’t mind.”

Someone brought out a gift box.

Jian Luo discreetly glanced at it and found two large sealed boxes of Sacred Dragon Fruits inside.

Next came a piece of weaponry and machinery. Lu Shifeng was quite generous with his offerings, leaving no room for anyone to be offended.

Indeed, the indigenous people’s faces lit up with smiles after seeing the gifts, and they excitedly invited Jian Luo and his group to visit their territory.

Lu Shifeng looked at Jian Luo. “Are you going?”

“I want to go, but is it dangerous?” Jian Luo whispered, “Both of us?”

Lu Shifeng raised an eyebrow without giving a definite answer. “Are you doubting yourself or me?”

“Uh… doubting myself.”

Lu Shifeng looked down at him, his blood-red eyes filled with a hint of amusement. He smirked. “You don’t need to worry.”

“Okay…”

Being with Lu Shifeng was quite comforting. It was easy to be choked by him.

Because Jian Luo was genuinely interested in understanding the current situation on Earth, in various aspects. He had already noticed that although Dark Star’s environment was good, the soil and certain aspects of the environment were not conducive to the growth of Earth’s plants and organisms. Like the medical book he had read some time ago, many herbs were nowhere to be found on Dark Star. He hoped that humans could reach a higher point and utilize their advantages to improve the environment.

Walking in the forest, Jian Luo continued to observe various animals and plants. Soon, he spotted a certain herb and exclaimed, “Mint!”

The leader ahead turned his dark eyes toward Jian Luo.

Jian Luo asked, “Is it?”

The leader nodded and examined Jian Luo closely after making sure Lu Shifeng was fine before continuing the conversation. “You’re a human.”

“Yes.”

“The group that resides on Dark Star?”

“Yes.”

“You’re doing fine.”

“…I guess.”

As he spoke, Jian Luo took another look at the leader and noticed that when he mentioned the group residing on Dark Star, his expression wasn’t exactly friendly. This made Jian Luo curious but unsure of what to say.

Continuing forward, he saw many peculiar-looking animals along the way. Jian Luo furrowed his brow and asked, “What happened to these animals?”

“The Earth’s magnetic field has changed,” Lu Shifeng replied casually. “Genes and chromosomes have also changed.”

Jian Luo nodded.

He had an even more important question in mind, so he gathered his courage and asked the leader, “Have the animals and plants, like vegetables and such, also changed? Are they no longer suitable for human consumption?”

The leader gave him a strange look.

Jian Luo shrank back.

“You can eat them,” the leader’s voice was hoarse, and one of his subordinates was carrying a deer, which he pointed to, saying, “All of them are safe to eat.”

Jian Luo nodded.

The group arrived at the leader’s residence, a tall-walled city with patrols on top. When they saw the leader’s group arriving, there were cheers and excitement.

The leader led Lu Shifeng inside. The houses and furnishings here were not as run-down as Jian Luo had imagined. They were made of cement and tiles, and many women and children were playing and laughing in front of various households. The overall atmosphere was quite harmonious, giving off a sense of contentment reminiscent of the 1980s.

Someone came forward to receive the hunting spoils.

A petite woman threw herself into the leader’s arms, her actions carrying a hint of coquetry. The woman’s belly was slightly protruding, indicating that she might be pregnant.

The leader showed the deer they had hunted to Jian Luo with sincerity. “This is your gift.”

The woman looked delighted, her face beaming with smiles.

Watching from a distance, Jian Luo felt a bit sour. He clicked his tongue and muttered, “People are really incomparable.”

Lu Shifeng, standing beside him, glanced at him when he heard this. “What’s the matter?”

Jian Luo shook his head. “It’s nothing.”

“Mr. Jian means that I’ve treated you unfairly?” Lu Shifeng raised an eyebrow. “Feel free to voice any complaints.”

“…No.”

Jian Luo looked at the leader with a sincere expression and then turned to Lu Shifeng. “Look how well he treats his pregnant wife. Unlike me, since getting pregnant, I’ve been either attending classes or working out. And on top of that, there are acupuncture sessions. Is this how people are supposed to live? The difference between people is just too big.”

Lu Shifeng raised his eyes to look at him. “Are you blaming me for not giving you a gift?”

Jian Luo was caught off guard. “I didn’t say that. I don’t need you to give me a gift. But after the baby is born, you promised me that I could choose a house.”

Wasn’t this frustrating? He had been talking about the house for so long, and yet he hadn’t even caught a glimpse of one. Could it be that he was being deceived?

Hmph, if he dared to trick him, he would run away with the baby.

Lu Shifeng saw Jian Luo’s changing expressions and found it quite amusing. After appreciating it for a while, he finally said, “Didn’t I take you to see it?”

Jian Luo suddenly looked up. “Where? I haven’t seen it.”

Lu Shifeng stared at him silently, not saying a word. Jian Luo had been puzzled, looking at him, and suddenly, in an instant, it seemed like he understood something from Lu Shifeng’s eyes. His eyes widened, filled with disbelief.

Lu Shifeng saw that he seemed to have grasped something and couldn’t help but smile.

“It can’t be…”

Chapter 86 – Can you feel the fatherly love

Chapter 86 – Can you feel the fatherly love

Jian Luo looked at Lu Shifeng, his eyes sparkling, and sighed, “This is so cool.”

Lu Shifeng: “Hmm?”

“In the summer, it must be really refreshing to have scales.” Jian Luo, an honest person, continued, “Your Dragon clan is amazing. You can have scales whenever you want, keeping you cool in the summer.”

Lu Shifeng fell silent.

Seeing that he wasn’t speaking, Jian Luo felt a bit embarrassed and realized he might have said something wrong. He awkwardly changed the topic, “Have you been seriously injured?”

Lu Shifeng looked down at him from a higher vantage point and replied calmly, “Why do you ask?”

“Because the last time I saw your arm injury, it was covered in scales.” Jian Luo presented his evidence. “So, are you injured now? Is it serious? What did the doctor say? Can it be treated?”

Three consecutive questions, each more ridiculous than the last.

Lu Shifeng stared quietly at him and finally asked, “Aren’t you afraid?”

This time, Jian Luo was puzzled, “Afraid of what?”

Silence fell between them as they locked eyes.

Finally, Jian Luo realized what Lu Shifeng might have been avoiding him these past few days because he was worried that Jian Luo might be afraid of his scales.

Is that it?

Jian Luo felt like a thousand crows were flying over his head. He inwardly scolded himself, “What do I have to be afraid of? You forgot that night when you saw scales on yourself, didn’t you?”

Lu Shifeng’s blood-red eyes dimmed.

Jian Luo wished he could bite his own tongue. It was so easy to blurt things out. He quickly added, “Anyway, isn’t it normal for Dragons to have scales?”

He didn’t say anything particularly touching, but for some reason, it felt like someone had scattered little flowers from the sky, and they all landed on Lu Shifeng’s heart.

Lu Shifeng looked at Jian Luo, and slowly, a smile formed in his eyes, and the corners of his mouth curved up.

Jian Luo tilted his head and said, “Hey, you actually smiled.”

Lu Shifeng’s expression turned serious. “Haven’t I smiled before?”

“Yes, you have,” Jian Luo replied earnestly, “but this smile feels different from the others.”

Indeed, Lu Shifeng’s smile had always been somewhat eerie.

How should he put it? It was like the cold smile of the head teacher when he caught you daydreaming during class. It had a strange charm to it.

But more importantly, Jian Luo always felt that smile didn’t reach his eyes, like it wasn’t a genuine expression of happiness.

But just now, he had genuinely smiled, unlike any of his previous smiles. It was like a rare plum blossom blooming on the desolate and remote Snow Mountain, beautiful and inspiring.

Lu Shifeng sat down next to the sickbed. “Dopamine production is reduced in Anxing people, so it’s normal that it feels different.”

“So, were you genuinely happy just now?” Jian Luo asked internally, “Wasn’t that night you seemed so happy?”

He silently sighed. Leaning against the bed, he said, “Can I go back now?”

Lu Shifeng looked at the completed IV drip and raised an eyebrow, “Or do you want to hang a couple more bags of saline?”

“No,” Jian Luo replied, “I’m done.”

Lu Shifeng got up from the bed, and Jian Luo’s legs felt a bit weak. When he stood on the ground, he felt a bit dizzy and had to steady himself for a moment.

Seeing him in discomfort, Lu Shifeng furrowed his brows and asked, “Can you walk?”

Jian Luo nodded, “I just need a moment to recover.”

“I’ll carry you.”

With those words, Lu Shifeng lifted him up horizontally. For the Dragon clan, the weight of a human was almost negligible. Jian Luo exclaimed and clung to his neck to prevent himself from falling.

Lu Shifeng glanced down at him.

Because they were so close now, Jian Luo could see Lu Shifeng’s scales on his neck more clearly. His eyes widened as he examined them closely. But before he could study them in detail, Lu Shifeng moved away.

Outside, Secretary Jin, who had been waiting, spoke up, “Marshal…”

Lu Shifeng turned to look at her.

“Nothing,” Secretary Jin quickly corrected herself when she saw Jian Luo. “You’re busy. I’ll go.”

On the way back with Jian Luo, they encountered many soldiers. They all stopped to greet Lu Shifeng and noticed Jian Luo in his arms, but none of them dared to stare for too long.

Jian Luo thought Lu Shifeng would take him back to his room but was surprised when they arrived at the cafeteria. “Why are we here?”

“To eat,” Lu Shifeng said and motioned for him to stand aside. “What would you like to eat?”

Jian Luo stared in amazement, “Are you going to cook for me?”

Lu Shifeng nodded.

Jian Luo was left speechless. If he broadcasted this live, with Lu Shifeng cooking, he’d probably become the number one interstellar internet sensation.

But there was a more important question.

Jian Luo asked seriously, “Um, Dragon Brother, can you actually cook?”

Lu Shifeng raised an eyebrow at his question and countered, “What makes you think I can’t?”

Jian Luo chuckled awkwardly, “Of course not.”

Isn’t this how you perceive him? Do I really need to state the obvious?

However, in front of Jian Luo, Lu Shifeng rolled up his sleeves and skillfully took out some meat from the freezer. After a simple preparation, he started cutting the vegetables.

Jian Luo approached, saying, “Let me help.”

Lu Shifeng didn’t let him, saying, “Just stay there.”

“I’m not doing anything else,” Jian Luo watched his actions, “Do you really know how to cook? Have you learned before?”

Lu Shifeng, while slicing the potatoes into strips, replied, “No.”

Jian Luo was quite surprised.

“Do you need to learn?” Lu Shifeng threw the vegetables into the pot. “I understood it after watching once.”

What? Was that even possible?

Jian Luo took a few steps back and went to wash and steam the rice, saying, “I never learned to cook either. I figured it out on my own; no one taught me.”

Lu Shifeng flipped the vegetables in the pan with a spatula. “You don’t seem clumsy.”

Jian Luo protested, “I’m naturally talented, you know.”

A hint of a smile tugged at the corner of Lu Shifeng’s mouth.

Both of them quietly prepared a few dishes in the kitchen, all of them simple home-cooked meals. The only remarkable thing was that these dishes were prepared by the renowned Grand Marshal of the entire interstellar military.

If the enemy knew that Marshal Lu Shifeng not only commanded the army but also cooked for a human, they would probably be dumbfounded.

Jian Luo sat at the dining table, saying, “I’ll try it.”

Lu Shifeng wiped his hands and watched him eat in silence.

Because he had been experiencing bouts of nausea these past few days, Jian Luo was cautious not to eat too much at once, fearing he might vomit again.

As he put a forkful of potato shreds into his mouth, the fragrance of the potato filled his senses, and it was crispy and delicious. Dragons liked spicy food, but Lu Shifeng had controlled the spiciness perfectly for his sensitive stomach.

Jian Luo sighed, “It’s delicious.”

Lu Shifeng continued to watch him silently.

After a while, just as Jian Luo was about to say that he hadn’t vomited this time, a wave of nausea hit him as expected. He covered his mouth and rushed to find a place to vomit.

Once he had finished vomiting, he felt like his stomach had been emptied.

Lu Shifeng stood beside him and asked, “Has it been like this for the past few days?”

Jian Luo nodded and rinsed his mouth. Straightening up, he said, “I’m used to it.”

Lu Shifeng looked at his pale face, and considering that Jian Luo didn’t like needles and had spent some time lying in the hospital bed, he was clearly not in good condition. With several more days of travel on the warship ahead, prolonging this condition would be detrimental.

Seeing that Lu Shifeng kept watching him, Jian Luo smiled, “Maybe I just can’t handle the food you cooked.”

Lu Shifeng raised an eyebrow.

Jian Luo chuckled awkwardly, “Of course not.”

Wasn’t that how you saw him? Did I really need to state the obvious?

Nevertheless, Lu Shifeng pulled Jian Luo back.

Jian Luo thought they were about to fight, but the Grand Marshal brought him back to the table, held him in his arms, and as Jian Luo stared in shock, he lifted a spoonful of food to his lips and said, “Eat.”

Jian Luo blinked, opened his mouth, and obediently swallowed the food.

Lu Shifeng’s hand rested on Jian Luo’s slightly protruding belly due to the pregnancy. He lightly tapped it, conveying a clear threat.

Jian Luo cooperatively finished his meal and then said, “I’m thirsty.”

Lu Shifeng fetched him a red dragon fruit milk tea.

The meal was eaten in a peaceful atmosphere. After a while, Jian Luo asked, “Hey, it seems like I didn’t vomit this time.”

Lu Shifeng nodded, finally putting him down. “Go rest; I’ll be with you.”

Jian Luo hadn’t had a proper meal in days, and now he felt energized. He pouted, “Not tired at all, I’m not tired at all!”

Seeing Jian Luo so full of energy, Lu Shifeng decided not to insist, “I’ll escort you back.”

Jian Luo paused, and his enthusiasm visibly wilted. He looked at Lu Shifeng, and with some effort, he said, “Back to my room again?”

Lu Shifeng finally realized and said, “To my quarters?”

Jian Luo’s eyes lit up. “Can I?”

Lu Shifeng nodded, “But you can only stay in front of me; no wandering.”

“Got it!”

Jian Luo had been to Lu Shifeng’s office before, but it was better than staying alone.

The two of them returned, one after the other, and as they approached the door, they ran into the adjutant. The adjutant’s expression changed noticeably when he saw Jian Luo behind Lu Shifeng, but he didn’t say much. He simply bowed respectfully to Lu Shifeng and said, “Marshal.”

Lu Shifeng replied with a simple “Hmm” and instructed, “Get some fruit and snacks delivered.”

The adjutant acknowledged, saying, “Yes.”

Once inside, Jian Luo could finally see the full view of this office. It was typically Lu Shifeng, minimalist to the extreme. Apart from the sofa and coffee table in front of the desk, there were almost no decorations.

Jian Luo couldn’t help but remark, “So simple.”

Lu Shifeng sat at the desk and said, “Too many things can be distracting. Find some books you like to read.”

Jian Luo didn’t need to; he took out a book he had borrowed from the High Priest’s place. “I have this.” It was a book on human history. He hadn’t finished it last time, so he continued reading. As he flipped through the pages, he discovered that history was like a circle, a cycle of rise and fall that never changed.

Halfway through, he unexpectedly found a holographic image ring. Jian Luo tapped it, and suddenly, a three-dimensional, azure-blue Mercury appeared before him. The Earth’s landmasses were reflected in his eyes. This small blue planet was tranquil and beautiful, making it impossible not to be moved.

Only those who had been away from their homeland for a long time could feel tears welling up when they saw their mother Earth, and only those who had lost their homes and wandered before returning could understand the emotion of seeing their homeland again.

This was Earth, the mother planet of humanity, their home. They once had homes, not just guests sitting on cold benches.

Jian Luo sniffled, took a deep breath, and reached out as if to touch the small blue planet. However, the holographic projection disappeared the moment his finger made contact. In an instant, the azure-blue Mercury vanished, like a mirage, here one moment and gone the next. In that moment, a sense of melancholy filled Jian Luo’s chest.

Lu Shifeng raised his head and saw Jian Luo staring blankly at the book. He said, “Jian Luo.”

Jian Luo looked up and said, “Hmm?”

“If you want to see it again, just tap it.”

Lu Shifeng’s tone was indifferent, and he added, “No need to daydream.”

“Oh.”

What a guy.

The next day

After spending several days on the warship, Jian Luo’s complexion had improved visibly, thanks to Lu Shifeng’s paternal care. The morning sickness had also subsided.

“Where are you taking me?”

Jian Luo followed behind Lu Shifeng, asking curiously.

Lu Shifeng walked ahead without turning his head. “You said you were bored. We’re passing by a planet where we can make a stop. I’ll take you down to relieve your boredom.”

Jian Luo had never been to an alien planet before, or rather, he had never been off a planet. This was his first time on an extraterrestrial world. He got excited as soon as he heard they were leaving the ship. “Which planet is it? Why didn’t you mention it earlier? I need to prepare and gather information to see if there are any local specialties I can bring back!”

Lu Shifeng glanced at him. “You don’t need to prepare.”

“Uh?”

They had reached the airlock. Lu Shifeng helped Jian Luo adjust his protective suit and then put a mask on him. After ensuring it was safe, he said, “No one knows this place better than you do.”

Chapter 85 – Are you trying to kill me?

Chapter 85 – Are you trying to kill me?

Jian Luo’s words came to an abrupt halt.

Outside, Secretary Jin, who had gone and returned, held the nutrient solution in his hand, clearing his throat awkwardly. “Um, I heard everything.”

“…”

They both tried to cover it up.

Jian Luo withdrew his hand and pretended to be casual. “Is that so? Hahaha, just chatting with someone earlier.”

Secretary Jin awkwardly agreed, “Yeah, just chatting.”

The two of them exchanged an awkward glance, then averted their eyes.

Finally, Secretary Jin spoke up, “Luo Luo, the military doctor just told me to bring you some tasteless nutrient solution to see if you can try it.”

Jian Luo was genuinely reluctant about the nutrient solution. He frowned, “Secretary Jin, please, I really don’t like drinking this stuff.”

“Luo Luo…” Secretary Jin also looked troubled. “But if you don’t drink it, how will your body get the nutrients it needs?”

Jian Luo sighed.

Life was tough. He sat on the sofa and suddenly thought of the dragon hatchling that had crawled on his shoulder earlier. Was that little black dragon really his offspring? It seemed… quite thin. Could it be because of his poor health that he couldn’t absorb nutrients properly? Now that he remembered, it seemed to be about the size of his palm. Thinking about other dragons, they all looked so robust. What if his offspring had a weak constitution and became the subject of ridicule? With these thoughts, Jian Luo suddenly found strength. “Alright, bring it. I’ll try.”

Secretary Jin was pleased. “Luo Luo, here you go.”

The nutrient solution was in a glass bottle, and from the outside, it still had the familiar green color. Jian Luo uncapped it with a motion that could rival a warrior unsheathing a sword, and with a heavy heart, he said, “I’ve had it.”

He poured the entire bottle into his mouth in one go, not daring to savor its taste, just downing it all at once. After finishing, he and Secretary Jin waited quietly for a moment.

Secretary Jin hesitated. “How is it?”

“It…” Jian Luo pondered for a moment. “It actually tastes like water.”

Secretary Jin breathed a sigh of relief. “Looks like it’s fine!”

Just as Jian Luo was about to nod, a wave of nausea surged from his stomach. He patted his chest and rushed to the bathroom, where he promptly vomited all the water he had just drunk into the toilet.

Secretary Jin was at a loss.

Jian Luo took a few shallow breaths and stood up, rinsing his mouth at the sink. He felt exhausted. “Forget it, don’t bother me anymore.”

Secretary Jin furrowed his brows. “You can’t go without eating.”

Jian Luo waved his hand, too tired to argue. “Let me rest for a while.”

“Alright.”

Secretary Jin looked at Jian Luo lying on the sofa, feeling a pang of sympathy. Jian Luo was so thin that his belly’s curve was visible even when sitting. His limbs were delicate. Secretary Jin lowered his head, only able to see his fair and tender profile, which looked rather pitiful.

Secretary Jin walked out of the room and saw the secretary assistant waiting outside.

Assistant Secretary whispered, “How is it?”

Secretary Jin shook his head.

“What should we do then?” The assistant secretary scratched his head, clearly also feeling troubled. “Human bodies are naturally fragile. If this continues, can Luo Luo’s body withstand it?”

Secretary Jin sighed. “I’ll go talk to Vice Admiral and get his opinion.”

The assistant secretary accompanied him, and the two of them went to the front, where they saw the Vice Admiral. He nodded politely when he saw them.

Secretary Jin briefly summarized the current situation. “Vice Admiral, we hope you can report to the Marshal and get a decision.”

The Vice Admiral held a document in his hand and spoke, “Secretary Jin, I think you might have a misunderstanding about me. Considering the Marshal’s current condition, you know his human courage… Are you sure he can handle the shock?”

Secretary Jin choked up.

These matters were indeed somewhat rashly handled, but Jian Luo’s situation couldn’t continue to be neglected.

Secretary Jin sighed. “Vice Admiral, regardless of whether Jian Luo can endure it, this isn’t a decision for us to make, is it?”

The Vice Admiral fell silent.

The three of them faced each other, wide-eyed, and just when everyone was about to make a decision, the door inside opened, and everyone unconsciously turned to look.

In the doorway, Lu Shifeng stood in his neatly pressed military uniform. The collar of his uniform was slightly open, revealing the dragon scales on his body. Only his face didn’t show any scales. He said, “Jiang Han.”

The Vice Admiral stood up with a swish.

Lu Shifeng’s gaze was icy. “Is his information bracelet ready?”

Jiang Han nodded quickly. “Yes.”

“Good.” Lu Shifeng walked to a nearby lounge and sat down. “Go and give it to him.”

Jiang Han was momentarily stunned but quickly understood and hurriedly acknowledged, “Yes!”

After Jiang Han left, the Vice Admiral’s expression didn’t look too good. Secretary Jin could see it and sighed.

Lu Shifeng asked her, “Has Jian Luo been eating?”

Secretary Jin replied, “Yes, he has been eating since he left, but he always ends up vomiting. The military doctor said it might be due to a lack of comforting pheromones from a mate and excessive worry, making it difficult for him to adjust to the environment.”

Lu Shifeng tapped his fingers on the table, deep in thought.

Secretary Jin also tactfully mentioned, “I can tell that the Marshal is genuinely concerned about Jian Luo. You could see it when he went to confront Jian Luo about scaring him with Silver Grey. Now that there are problems with Jian Luo and the child, I imagine the Marshal is not doing well either.”

On the other side, Jian Luo received the information bracelet brought by the Vice Admiral.

He looked at the bracelet with some surprise. “Silver?!”

“Yes, it was specially developed for you. All the functions are still intact,” the Vice Admiral said. “You can use it once you wear it.”

Jian Luo nodded. “Alright.”

The Vice Admiral hesitated for a moment, then his gaze fell on Jian Luo’s belly. He left without saying a word.

Jian Luo was trying to figure out how to use the bracelet when a call came in. He was surprised to find that it was Lu Shifeng calling, and his hand trembled as he answered.

It was a video call.

As the video connected, Jian Luo raised his head and saw Lu Shifeng’s face. They had seen each other these past few days, and Lu Shifeng appeared somewhat worn out.

Well, not exactly worn out, but he seemed to have a deep sense of hostility. His facial features were deep and three-dimensional, and his blood-red eyes were profound, like a coiled beast ready to strike.

Even through the video, Jian Luo felt a bit intimidated.

“Marshal?” Jian Luo stammered.

Lu Shifeng responded with a soft “Hmm.”

“Are you okay?” Jian Luo was worried and couldn’t help asking, “Are you injured?”

Lu Shifeng didn’t say much, just, “Hmm, injured.”

Then why didn’t you come back to see me?!

Jian Luo’s inner turmoil raged, but in reality, he could only hold himself back slightly and hugged himself.

Lu Shifeng took out a book. “Have you mastered the topics prepared by Lord Sacrifice?”

“…” Jian Luo choked. “Isn’t it still early for that? Don’t rush me.”

Lu Shifeng flipped through the book casually. “Which chapter is the specific assignment in? Let me see.”

Jian Luo agreed and, in fact, he had been feeling a little uncomfortable. However, Lu Shifeng’s request to check his homework completely diverted his attention, so he quickly got out of bed and found the book, saying through the video, “I’ve been reviewing on my own, and the main problem is with these questions on this page…”

He rambled on, and Lu Shifeng listened, occasionally interjecting a word or two.

Ever since Jian Luo’s condition had deteriorated a few days ago, discussing these things with Lu Shifeng helped him forget about his troubles.

Finally, he looked up at Lu Shifeng and hesitated. “Do you think this approach to solving the problem is correct?”

Lu Shifeng casually turned a page in the book and said, “There are a few mistakes. Look at line b, the verb shouldn’t be used like that.”

The two of them reviewed together, and Jian Luo nodded thoughtfully.

After they finished their homework, Jian Luo mentioned that he was also studying medical books. “I think once I learn it, maybe I can do more than just cooking in the future during our live broadcasts. I can add some medical content.”

Lu Shifeng’s words were to the point. “Adding extras is fine, but reading books late at night isn’t.”

“Uh…” Jian Luo buried himself in the book, carefully considering Lu Shifeng’s words. It seemed like he wouldn’t be coming back to sleep.

Realizing this, Jian Luo’s mood inexplicably sank a notch.

Finally, he couldn’t hold back and asked, “By the way, when will your wound heal?”

He looked up at the video segment of Lu Shifeng, and in this perspective, the Marshal saw Jian Luo’s face. That slightly thin face had indeed lost some weight. It was evident that these past few days had been tough on him.

Having seen many storms and endured numerous injuries, Lu Shifeng, even if he was in great pain, found himself feeling a bit choked up.

Seeing him asking, Jian Luo became a bit anxious. He quickly changed his words, saying, “I was just asking casually, you know… asking for the baby.”

Lu Shifeng spoke in a deep voice, “Is that so?”

“Yes, yes,” Jian Luo chuckled. To change the topic, he continued, “By the way, do you know, Dragon Brother, I dreamed about the baby yesterday. It was a black one, completely pitch black. It was just the size of my palm, you know?”

Lu Shifeng looked at his face and repeated, “Is that so?”

Jian Luo nodded vigorously.

Lu Shifeng’s eyes seemed to flash with a hint of a smile. “Did you only see one?”

Jian Luo suddenly became perplexed. He touched his belly and hesitated. “Could I have made a mistake in the ultrasound? Maybe there’s only one baby?”

Lu Shifeng tried to comfort him. “It’s not a mistake. Some hatchlings develop their consciousness earlier.”

Jian Luo nodded. “Oh, I see.”

The two of them chatted for a while, and finally, Jian Luo felt a bit tired. He glanced at Lu Shifeng in the video and waved his hand. “I’m going to sleep.”

Lu Shifeng responded with a simple “Hmm.”

It wasn’t until he saw that Jian Luo had fallen asleep on the video that Lu Shifeng ended the call.

Secretary Jin had been waiting nearby and approached. She handed him a bottle of calming nutrient liquid prescribed by the military doctor. “The doctor said you need to replenish with calming nutrients. This is today’s dose.”

Lu Shifeng took the bottle and opened it, taking a sip.

Secretary Jin was about to take her leave. “Then I’ll go now.”

Lu Shifeng spoke with a stern tone, “Go and stay with Jian Luo.”

Secretary Jin was momentarily stunned.

“If anything happens, come and tell me immediately,” Lu Shifeng continued, his gaze meeting hers, and he spoke with a deep voice, “Understood?”

Secretary Jin’s eyes trembled as they met those crimson irises. She quickly nodded. “Understood!”

Jian Luo had another nightmare.

This time, he dreamt of a place he had never been to before. The grass here was yellowed, and there was a pervasive, nauseating stench in the air.

Suddenly, the hillside not far away trembled, and a four-legged creature emerged from the ground. It was massive, about eight feet tall, with long whiskers swaying in the air, making it look extremely menacing.

Jian Luo widened his eyes and tried to take a few steps back, but as soon as he moved, the creature noticed him. Like a rat spotting rice, it charged straight at Jian Luo.

“Bang!”

In the nick of time, a gigantic black dragon descended from the sky, colliding with the creature. The collision created a massive cloud of dust and smoke.

Next, Jian Luo swore that he saw a scene of unprecedented frenzy and slaughter.

The creatures in this place had multiplied in great numbers. The black dragon, seemingly tireless, fought and slaughtered them tirelessly. Soon, the entire hillside was stained red.

Jian Luo looked around and couldn’t help but comment, “Either everything is burnt or stained red with blood, right?”

While he was muttering, unfortunately, the black dragon that had been in the middle of a killing spree suddenly stopped. It turned its head, its gaze sharp and alert, landing directly on Jian Luo. Those somewhat familiar blood-red eyes sent shivers down Jian Luo’s spine.

The two pairs of eyes met, and he seemed to be like prey pinned in place.

Suddenly,

The dragon lunged at him with its entire body.

Jian Luo stood frozen in place, not daring to move a muscle, unsure if his mind had gone blank or his legs had turned to jelly. When a fierce dragon comes charging at you, you know that one wrong move means certain death, yet he still couldn’t bring himself to move.

“Boom!”

The black dragon’s tail whipped, sending a four-horned insect behind Jian Luo flying several meters away, crashing into a nearby hill.

As they got closer, Jian Luo could see the dragon scales on the black dragon’s body, stained with what appeared to be the blood of some unknown creature. Strangely, there were many black dragons around, but he felt an inexplicable certainty about the one before him.

The wind on the hill blew strong, tousling Jian Luo’s hair.

The black dragon turned slowly, its eyes fixed on Jian Luo, distant yet filled with a strong killing intent. It was as though he were assessing a stranger, a helpless prey that could be easily dispatched with a single swipe of his claw. Jian Luo stood before the colossal black dragon, defenseless.

The dragon and the man locked eyes for a moment, as if time had frozen.

After a while,

Jian Luo spoke, his voice somewhat hoarse, “Are you going to kill me?”

The black dragon didn’t respond. Just as Jian Luo was about to speak again, he woke up, opening his eyes to find himself still in the cabin of the warship. The fragments of his dream felt so vivid, as if they were right in front of him, with a remarkable sense of reality.

He took a few shallow breaths, drenched in sweat.

Glancing at his side, he realized that he had been sharing a bed with Lu Shifeng since the incident three months ago. He had trouble sleeping before, but after being with him, he rarely had nightmares. Now, almost every night, he slept soundly, either lost in thoughts or thinking about him.

Jian Luo slumped on the bed, muttering to himself, “Just kill me…”

“Knock, knock, knock.”

There was a knocking sound from outside.

Jian Luo sat up and said, “Come in.”

Secretary Jin heard voices from inside and pushed a meal cart into the room. “Luo Luo, it’s evening, time to eat. You haven’t eaten anything all day.”

Seeing the food made Jian Luo physically uncomfortable. He frowned and said, “I can’t eat.”

Secretary Jin sighed inwardly and said, “Luo Luo, please try. If you can’t eat today, we’ll discuss it again.”

Jian Luo didn’t want to make it difficult for her, so he reluctantly took a few bites after sitting down at the table.

Secretary Jin looked at him expectantly.

“Ugh…”

After sitting for a while, Jian Luo rushed to the bathroom and vomited some bile.

Secretary Jin stood still, sighing. She went to help Jian Luo but hadn’t even reached him when he staggered and almost collapsed. She hurried over, saying, “Luo Luo!”

Everything went black for Jian Luo. He regained his composure after a while and said, “I… I think it might be low blood sugar.”

Secretary Jin said firmly, “I’ll get you a nutrient IV.”

Jian Luo hesitated but eventually nodded.

Outside, Lu Shifeng stood at the door. His gaze first fell on Jian Luo lying on the hospital bed, and he furrowed his brows. How could he look even thinner than he did in the video?

Secretary Jin stood at attention and said, “General.”

Lu Shifeng nodded and said, “Everyone, leave.”

The doctor and Secretary Jin didn’t dare to delay and quickly exited the room.

Inside the room, it was just Lu Shifeng and Jian Luo. Lu Shifeng sat down next to Jian Luo, not saying a word, just quietly keeping him company.

The scales on his neck were still visible.

Lu Shifeng’s breath was unsteady, but when he sat beside Jian Luo, the fierce aura within him, like boiling water meeting ice, gradually settled.

In the room, there was the faint sound of Jian Luo’s breathing, which brought great relief.

Lu Shifeng looked at the person on the bed. Jian Luo’s brows were tightly furrowed in his sleep. Lu Shifeng extended his hand, his rough fingertips gently pressed against the furrowed brow. The person in his sleep unconsciously made a cute little sound, endearing.

A faint smile tugged at the corners of Lu Shifeng’s lips. He had been born with a predisposition for violence, and the restless genes in his bones made it difficult for him to calm down after shedding blood. Although others saw him as calm, the torment was known only to himself. But when he looked at Jian Luo, it was as if a fierce beast, previously trapped in a confined space, suddenly found peace.

He had noticed it from the very beginning. Even a simple meal together or eating something prepared by Jian Luo helped him find that peace.

Jian Luo’s sleep was not restful. Seeing the IV was about to finish, Lu Shifeng stood up to leave. Just as the General took a couple of steps, his wrist was suddenly grabbed. Jian Luo, who was abruptly awakened from his dream, instinctively latched onto something, realizing that he had actually grabbed Lu Shifeng’s wrist.

The pair of eyes met each other in the silent room.

Lu Shifeng spoke in a deep voice, “Awake?”

“Huh?” Jian Luo struggled to sit up but forgot about the needle in his wrist, causing him to exclaim in pain, “Ah, it hurts!”

Lu Shifeng sighed inwardly, then removed the needle, held Jian Luo’s shoulder, and said with a hint of helplessness, “Don’t be so restless. Are you still a child?”

Jian Luo felt a pang of shame, but he had thick skin, so he quickly recovered. After adjusting his mental state, he raised his head and happened to see the scales on Lu Shifeng’s neck. He remembered that they were there before, and he had even detected an unfamiliar scent on Lu Shifeng. This was also something from before.

Lu Shifeng noticed his gaze and furrowed his brows.

Jian Luo pointed to his neck, “You…”

Inexplicably, Lu Shifeng’s heart tightened. He had faced the fear of going into battle for the first time, entered the Dragon Valley for training for the first time, and faced a thousand enemies alone, but now, when he met Jian Luo’s clean eyes, he strangely felt a hint of nervousness deep within him. This emotion seemed to be called—fear.

It was strange; General Lu Shifeng himself didn’t care about the rumors and what others thought of him. He rarely showed himself in public and couldn’t be bothered by idle talk or malicious speculation. But—

At this moment,

He began to worry that Jian Luo might say something he didn’t want to hear, and that would make him sad.

Chapter 84 – All men are no good

Chapter 84- All men are no good

Jian Luo hadn’t expected him to ask that.

But the adjutant seemed prepared to doggedly pursue this question, his gaze fixed on Jian Luo without a moment’s wavering, as if he were demanding an answer for himself.

Jian Luo paused for just two seconds before smiling. “I definitely like him.”

The adjutant’s hand involuntarily clenched.

Jian Luo straightened in his seat, completely composed in front of the adjutant. He spoke slowly and deliberately, “He’s the father of my child. Why would I dislike him?”

The adjutant set down the information tablet he held and asked, “Aren’t you humans all about love?”

Jian Luo raised an eyebrow. “Does the honorable adjutant also stoop to understanding human culture?”

The adjutant remained silent.

“I don’t care what you want to do, but there’s one thing I hope you’ll consider,” Jian Luo spoke plainly, “Liking whomever you want is your freedom, and it doesn’t affect anyone else. Even if you like Lu Shifeng, it’s no concern of mine. But let me remind you, no matter what you do, Lu Shifeng might fall for you, but when it comes to me, he definitely won’t.”

The adjutant’s expression darkened.

Jian Luo’s words were soft, not forceful, but they carried a deep conviction, the confidence that came from being favored, a confidence that might inspire envy.

Jian Luo yawned. “I’m tired. I won’t accompany the honorable adjutant any longer.”

The adjutant stood up, bowed, and then left.

After he left, the room fell into silence. Jian Luo’s expression also grew serious, not because of the adjutant, but because of himself.

The reason was simple. When the adjutant asked if he liked Lu Shifeng, he hesitated. Even though this hardly amounted to anything, Jian Luo’s heart had been hanging by a thread. When it came to matters of love, even if one had never tasted pork, they’d still seen pigs run, right?

“No way…”

Jian Luo moved to the side and lay on the bed, feeling a headache coming on. He turned over a couple of times and let out a long sigh.

A certain fact seemed to be staring him in the face.

He might, just might, have a tiny bit of affection for Lu Shifeng.

What’s so special about liking the Marshal? He’d always liked that face, after all, he was a sucker for good looks. But… when he used to like faces, he could easily say he didn’t like something. So why was he hesitating now?

Jian Luo, why are you hesitating?

After lying on the bed for a while, feeling like he’d sighed his whole life away, Jian Luo sat up. No matter what, he couldn’t fall asleep anymore. It was late at night, but he had no desire to sleep. He couldn’t use his information wristband, and he had no entertainment devices left. He felt like a lazy fish.

Jian Luo sighed. “I guess I’ll read a book.”

The medical book he picked up seemed to draw him in more and more. It contained a lot of information about body conditioning, particularly the use of food in treating various ailments. There were many common food combinations for health.

Jian Luo came across a section about pregnancy for husbands, listing several suitable recipes for him. Since he wasn’t sleepy and had nothing else to do, he read late into the night, only succumbing to drowsiness when it was almost morning.

“Knock, knock, knock.”

There was a knocking sound from outside.

Jian Luo on the bed frowned, turned over, and chose to ignore it to get more sleep. He was too tired.

The adjutant’s voice came from outside, “Mr. Jian, please open the door. It’s time for breakfast.”

Jian Luo wanted to cover his ears, but the persistent adjutant didn’t intend to let him off. He continued knocking, eventually getting Jian Luo out of bed.

Jian Luo, with his bed hair, went to the door, rubbing his eyes. “You can leave it here, I’ll eat later.”

But the adjutant was not giving up. “I’ll wait here until you finish eating, Mr. Jian.”

“…”

But he wanted to go back to sleep.

Jian Luo forced himself to wake up. “I’ll call you when I finish eating.”

The adjutant remained unmoved. “Ensuring you have three meals a day is my duty and responsibility, Mr. Jian. Please don’t make it difficult for me.”

Jian Luo was at a loss. He looked at the table full of food and felt a headache coming on. He hadn’t slept well last night, and he hadn’t even gotten out of bed this morning. A fire seemed to be brewing in his chest.

He was not the type to easily lose his temper or act unreasonably, but right now, he had to hold back the fire.

Jian Luo stepped back. “I don’t have an appetite. In that case, could the honorable adjutant fetch a Holy Dragon Fruit for me?”

The adjutant didn’t argue this time. “Please wait a moment.”

As he walked away, Jian Luo rushed back to the bed. He had barely closed his eyes when the entire spaceship suddenly trembled. The visible trembling jolted him awake.

Jian Luo sat up. “What’s going on?!”

The adjutant returned, and Jian Luo, still sitting up, asked, “The spaceship might have entered an asteroid region. There, the asteroids have strong mobility and are highly destructive. The journey might be a bit turbulent.”

Jian Luo breathed a sigh of relief. “I thought we were going into battle again.”

The adjutant remained silent.

With only a few words exchanged, the adjutant handed a fresh Holy Dragon Fruit to Jian Luo. “Please eat.”

Jian Luo obediently peeled it and started eating. He thought he had lost his appetite for food in general, but to his surprise, after a few bites of the fruit, he found it tasteless.

His stomach felt uncomfortable, and he put it down. “I can’t eat anymore.”

The adjutant wanted to say, “But…”

Jian Luo couldn’t contain his frustration anymore and raised an eyebrow, his eyes flashing with irritation. “But what?”

The adjutant squinted for a moment behind his glasses, a brief flicker of surprise passing through his otherwise emotionless eyes. But he quickly masked it.

Taking the plate, he hesitated for a moment, then bowed. “I will take my leave.”

Watching him go, Jian Luo sighed heavily. He had been quite tired, not having slept enough in the morning, but for some reason, this nap left his mind in a fog.

He tossed and turned on the bed, in a state between dreams and wakefulness. In this daze, he found himself reminiscing about the past.

“Please eat quickly, don’t let Luoluo find out.”

“Mom only bought this little, please don’t tell him.”

“We don’t have much money at home, why spend it on some wild kid?”

Fragments of voices and images kept flashing in his mind, and Jian Luo stood in a dark place, quietly observing these scenes.

It felt like there was a vortex pulling him in, and he had neither the strength nor the will to resist.

Suddenly, something heavy landed on his shoulder, startling Jian Luo. He turned around quickly, and his eyes met a pair of ruby-like eyes.

On his shoulder was a small black dragon, about the size of his palm. Its scales didn’t shine like those of a mature dragon; they appeared softer, and its wings on the back weren’t fully extended, so it used its claws to grip onto Jian Luo’s clothes.

Jian Luo stared at it, almost forgetting to breathe.

The black dragon crawled for a bit, finally steadying itself on Jian Luo’s shoulder. It made a soft, almost coquettish purring sound in its throat, and its head rubbed against Jian Luo’s.

Jian Luo extended his hand, wanting to touch its head.

The dragon seemed to sense his touch and lifted its head. There were still wet spots on its head, likely from tears.

A smile formed on Jian Luo’s lips. “You got my tears on you.”

The dragon seemed baffled and didn’t understand.

Just when Jian Luo was about to say something more, the world suddenly spun around him, and he abruptly opened his eyes, finding himself back in the room on the spaceship.

Jian Luo sat up, touched his belly, and felt puzzled. “Little ones…”

Weren’t there supposed to be three eggs? Why did he only see one baby?

Well, it was a black one, at least. He thought about how Lu Shifeng might react if he had laid a golden one. It was better this way, no need to worry about dragon-sized jealousy.

Jian Luo woke up from his nap with a slightly dizzy head. He tried to stand up, but as soon as he bent his leg, a sharp, piercing pain shot through him. He exclaimed, “Ouch…”

It was a cramp.

When Jian Luo had been pregnant with the three little ones before, he had never experienced a cramp like this. Back then, he had thought that even if he did get a cramp, Lu Shifeng would always be there to accompany him, so it wouldn’t be a big problem.

But now there was no one beside him, and the pain in his leg was making him tremble, rendering him helpless.

Jian Luo took a few deep breaths, trying to endure the pain, but it was of little use. Humans did have a good tolerance for pain, but the worst part was that, perhaps due to the presence of the little ones in his belly, his body reacted more sensitively, and the leg cramp was extremely painful, almost making his whole body unable to move.

Finally,

Jian Luo gave up. He lay on the bed, waiting quietly for the leg cramp to subside. The pain gradually eased and eventually faded away.

He sighed and, upon regaining his senses, realized that he was covered in cold sweat.

Knock, knock, knock.

Once again, there was a knock on the door. Jian Luo turned his head to the side. “Come in.”

This time, it was Secretary Jin who entered, pushing a cart with a meal. She looked concerned as she glanced inside. “Luoluo, I heard from Adjutant that you’re not feeling well today. What’s wrong?”

Jian Luo exhaled deeply and lay back on the bed. “It’s nothing, just not in the mood for food, I guess.”

Secretary Jin pushed the dining table closer. “The kitchen made a red heart Holy Dragon Fruit milk tea today. Would you like to try it?”

Jian Luo glanced at it. “I’m not interested in Holy Spirit Fruit right now.”

Secretary Jin knew that expectant mothers could experience heightened sensitivity during the sixth and seventh months of pregnancy, but she couldn’t be sure if that was the case for Jian Luo. She said, “Luoluo, maybe you should give it a taste?”

Jian Luo had no desire to taste it.

But since the meal had been brought to him, not eating would be impolite. He reluctantly stood up, and since the leg cramp had subsided, he could walk. He went to the dining table and looked at the chicken soup in the pot. He pursed his lips, trying to control the discomfort. However, he couldn’t hold back and suddenly retched, vomiting a few mouthfuls of sour liquid into the nearby trash can.

Secretary Jin was taken aback. “Luoluo!”

Jian Luo curled up, trying to suppress the churning in his stomach. He struggled to speak, “That chicken soup had too much oil.”

Secretary Jin looked puzzled. He hadn’t even tasted it; had he rejected it just by looking at it?

She patted his shoulder and hesitated. “Should I skim the oil for you?”

Jian Luo shook his head.

Secretary Jin was at a loss. She decided to take the chicken soup away. It seemed that she was worried enough about Jian Luo to give up.

The following dishes were just as Secretary Jin had predicted. Jian Luo barely ate a few bites before all the dishes were taken away as they were, untouched.

Seeing Jian Luo’s condition, Secretary Jin was concerned. “Luoluo… maybe I should call the military doctor to check on you?”

Jian Luo didn’t object.

Quickly, and with efficiency, especially when it came to Jian Luo, Secretary Jin arranged for the doctor to come. The doctor arrived promptly with a medical kit. She was a woman who first bowed to Jian Luo and then began her examination with various instruments.

Jian Luo sat on the sofa quietly, letting her do her work.

The doctor manipulated the instruments for a while, recording various data. Finally, she sighed and confirmed, “There is a slight case of motion sickness, and you seem to be lacking…”

Jian Luo looked over. “Lacking what?”

“Information pheromones from your partner,” the doctor explained patiently. “In the earlier months, your partner was likely with you, and your body, including the little ones inside you, got used to his pheromones. If suddenly he’s not around, it can lead to psychological and subsequently physiological discomfort.”

Jian Luo looked puzzled. “Can psychological issues really cause this?”

The doctor nodded. “It seems so. Because the mental state of expectant mothers can’t be overly stressed, your body might be taking on some of the burden to help you cope.”

Secretary Jin summarized, “So, Luoluo, this is a mental issue, and the reason for your mental discomfort is because…Marshal Shifeng isn’t here?”

Jian Luo blushed. “No, no, it’s not like that. I’m just feeling a bit unwell these past couple of days. It has nothing to do with Long ge.”

Secretary Jin gave Jian Luo a knowing look that seemed to say, “You don’t need to explain; I understand.”

The doctor offered some consolation. “It’s common, and it’s something you can’t control. Pregnant individuals often rely on their partner’s pheromones for comfort. I’ll prescribe some medication to help alleviate it a bit.”

Jian Luo finally nodded.

After Secretary Jin and the doctor left, Jian Luo buried his head in the covers, feeling utterly embarrassed. How could he be so ridiculous?

Medical supplies provided by the military doctor were in pill form, Jian Luo took one and placed it in his mouth. Instantly, his mouth was filled with a pungent sweetness.

“…”

The medicine from the Dragon Clan is really something.

On the other side, Secretary Jin returned with a heavy heart. When she reached the entrance of the training room, she encountered the adjutant who asked, “How is Mr. Jian?”

Secretary Jin shook her head. “Not too good.”

The adjutant remained silent.

“I think it’s best if we report this to the Marshal,” Secretary Jin sighed heavily. “He’s not doing well right now, and if something happens to Jian Luo, the Marshal won’t let us off the hook.”

The adjutant said, “You know the Marshal’s current situation.”

Secretary Jin frowned, showing some resistance. “Whether Jian Luo should meet the Marshal should be the Marshal’s decision. Our job is to report the facts honestly.”

“…”

The two of them locked eyes for a moment, and there was a brief silence in the air.

Finally, the adjutant said, “I’ll think it over and give you an answer at noon.”

Secretary Jin didn’t press any further, nodded, and gave the adjutant a meaningful look before leaving.

In the cafeteria, Jian Luo couldn’t stay cooped up in his room any longer. He came to the cafeteria to prepare a meal. Because he couldn’t stand the smell of fish right now, the old man had prepared a room for him with only a few ingredients that Jian Luo liked, letting him cook for himself.

The old man asked, “Are you cooking for the Marshal today?”

Jian Luo sighed, “Yes.”

The old man could tell that Jian Luo was feeling down and spoke comforting words, “Luo Luo, don’t think too much. The Marshal is just too busy. Don’t worry about it.”

Jian Luo inexplicably found this situation familiar. It was very much like the way some women at home would console themselves while waiting for their husbands to return.

Thinking of this, he smiled. “I know there must be a reason. I don’t blame him.”

As he spoke, Jian Luo brought over the prepared meal. The old man looked at the plate, which only had a pitiful serving of potato-covered rice, and couldn’t help twitching his mouth.

At first, there were two side dishes and a soup, not to mention anything else, at least there was an egg. But now, the situation had deteriorated to the point where there were fewer and fewer dishes each day. Up to this point, he had simply covered the rice with vegetables to make do.

The old man hesitated, “Is this all?”

Jian Luo tilted his head and smiled, “He’s very busy. If he gets injured, he can just drink some nutrient solution. It’s better for his health this way.”

“…”

You must be angry.

The old man didn’t dare to say anything, afraid that if he said something, Jian Luo might not cook for the Marshal anymore. So, he accepted his fate and took the plate.

At noon, when it was time to deliver the meal, the old man brought the meal that Jian Luo had prepared.

The adjutant received it and thanked him before entering the training room. The training room, as large as it was, was in complete disarray. The ground was completely uneven, and shattered stone pillars were scattered everywhere. The space here was vast, but it looked like a scene of destruction.

In the center of the training room, a man sat half-leaning against a pillar. His upper body was covered in black dragon scales, and his eyes were a deep crimson. Sensing someone entering, he raised his eyelids slightly, and a murderous intent emanated from him.

The adjutant kept a safe distance and placed the food down.

In such a raging state as Lu Shifeng’s, it would normally take ten days or more to calm down. However, as Secretary Jin had said, in less than three days, he had already started to regain his composure. It was truly remarkable.

The adjutant respectfully said, “I’ll take my leave then.”

Lu Shifeng’s voice was hoarse. “Are you leaving?”

“…”

The adjutant hesitated for a moment, then turned around and said respectfully, “Is there anything I can do for you?”

Lu Shifeng lazily leaned against the pillar, his stern face adorned with a line of scales that resembled a work of art. He slowly spoke, “Did Jian Luo only make this much?”

In other words, is he already starting to neglect me after just a few days?

The adjutant hesitated for a moment before finally speaking, “Yes.”

“…”

The air was filled with a deathly silence.

The adjutant could clearly feel the temperature dropping even lower, and the aura of danger growing stronger. In such a situation, just maintaining one’s composure was becoming a challenge.

Finally, Lu Shifeng lowered his gaze and asked in a deep voice, “How is he?”

The adjutant hesitated, unsure if he should speak. When he looked up again, he met the icy cold gaze of those blood-red eyes, devoid of any emotion but filled with an inscrutable scrutiny.

At that moment, the adjutant felt a sense of powerlessness.

At noon, Jian Luo still hadn’t eaten.

The kitchen had done its best, but Jian Luo had decided to cook himself a bowl of rice porridge. He had thought he could manage to eat a little, but after just a few bites, he had vomited it all back up. From morning till now, it had been a cycle of eating and vomiting, and he felt like he was about to regurgitate his entire stomach. Jian Luo was completely exhausted, but he just couldn’t bring himself to eat anything.

Secretary Jin was getting worried. “Luo Luo, how about trying some Sacred Dragon Fruit again?”

Jian Luo, lying like a lazy fish on the couch, shook his head. “I don’t want to vomit again.”

Secretary Jin sighed. “The military doctor said that if you can’t eat because of acclimatization issues, your body will continue to lose weight, and you might have to get nutrient injections later.”

Jian Luo widened his eyes. “Injections?!”

He remembered the painful injections he had seen in the hospital, and it gave him a headache.

Secretary Jin comforted him for a while before leaving, mainly hoping that Jian Luo would rest well, not worry too much, and try eating again with a better mindset. Jian Luo listened as attentively as he could.

Once Secretary Jin left, the room returned to silence.

Jian Luo lay on the couch for a while, intending to get up, but the familiar pain in his legs returned, and this time, it was even more intense than the one he had experienced on the bed. It was so painful that he involuntarily sucked in a breath, and his whole body trembled uncontrollably.

“Ah…”

Jian Luo was in tears from the pain. Thinking about the military doctor’s words, he couldn’t help but feel resentful towards Lu Shifeng. With no one else in the room, he pounded his legs and cursed, “You scoundrel! You lured me here and then disappeared for two or three days without a word. Men like you are no good! Who asked you to have a child? I bet when I get back, I’ll take the child and go find…”

Chapter 83 – Do you like Lu Shifeng?

Chapter 83 – Do you like Lu Shifeng?

Jian Luo looked at the person in the popup window in front of him, listening to him speak. For some inexplicable reason, he could sense a hint of a northeastern accent in his voice. However, in the presence of this person, he remained cautious. “Do you have something to discuss with me?”

“Do you know who I am?” the masked individual asked him. “I suppose there’s hardly anyone who hasn’t heard of my name.”

Jian Luo fell silent and slightly elongated his tone. “Oh, you are…”

The masked person brightened up. “You’ve heard of me.”

“No,” Jian Luo replied.

The two sat on the couch, and Jian Luo leisurely regarded the masked individual. “So, what brings you to me?”

Initially, the masked person had no particular interest in Jian Luo. However, it didn’t take long for him to find this human quite intriguing. Some people would be terrified upon seeing him, but Jian Luo, though clearly frightened, managed to maintain a facade of composure. He even had the time to crack jokes.

Eventually, the man’s charisma caught the attention of the masked individual. He began a self-introduction that he hadn’t done in a long time. “I am Silver Gray, an interstellar pirate.”

Jian Luo gazed at him in silence. There was a momentary stillness in the air. Silver Gray waited calmly for Jian Luo’s reaction, but it turned out to be a lonely wait.

After a moment, Jian Luo asked, “And then?”

Silence from Silver Gray.

Silver Gray furrowed his brow. The way he looked at Jian Luo was as if he were looking at a fool.

Finally, Silver Gray asked, “Aren’t you afraid?”

Jian Luo scratched his head and sighed, “Fear won’t help. If you had any means to harm me, you wouldn’t be contacting me through a video call like this. If you’re still here, it means you can’t do anything to me, right?”

This time, Silver Gray fell into silence.

The interstellar pirate looked at Jian Luo, observing the seemingly frail human across from him. After a brief silence, he burst into laughter. “You’re quite interesting, little one.”

Jian Luo remained quietly watching him laugh.

The masked individual seemed to glance behind Jian Luo and said, “Your man confiscated some of our cargo. We need to recover something.”

Jian Luo choked, “Crayfish?”

The masked person replied, “He even told you about that? Seems like you’re more than just his pet.”

Not exactly. It’s just that I was the one who initiated eating that crayfish.

Jian Luo hesitated for a moment but ultimately didn’t reveal the truth. He was afraid that if Silver Gray, the pirate, learned the real story, he might want to tear him apart.

Silver Gray scanned Jian Luo for a moment, as if about to speak, but then someone seemed to pass by behind him, saying something that Jian Luo couldn’t hear. In just a few words, Silver Gray turned away, looking back at Jian Luo and sneering, “Your man is really ruthless.”

Jian Luo:?

Before he could say anything, the communication signal on the screen suddenly became unstable, and then a loud crash sounded from the other end. The sheer magnitude of the noise left even Jian Luo, watching through the video call, startled and his heart racing.

Then, from the other end of the video call, there were familiar footsteps.

Jian Luo’s heart unconsciously raced. A faint guess emerged in his mind, and as the footsteps approached, that answer was almost about to come to light.

However, he didn’t see the person he wanted to see on the screen. Just when Jian Luo was about to give up, in a split second, he heard a familiar voice, “Jian Luo.”

Jian Luo froze. “Huh?”

“Take off your communication bracelet and turn it off,” Lu Shifeng said. “Go back to bed.”

“Oh,” Jian Luo replied.

In a second, the entire screen went dark.

Jian Luo stared at the now normal livestream page without immediate action. He wanted to keep this page and see if someone would contact him later, hoping to find some clues.

The soundproofing in this room was quite effective. It seemed that the situation outside had escalated. Jian Luo removed his communication bracelet and walked to the window, pulling back the curtains to look outside. He was taken aback by the scene he witnessed.

The vast cosmic theme was black. His warship was situated within a golden vortex, surrounded by secondary ships, a total of ten, forming a protective formation around the main ship. Not far away, a row of silver warships formed a circle, and there was aerial combat in progress, the battle was intense.

Jian Luo felt a bit worried and closed the curtains. The artillery fire outside was booming, and he sat on the edge of the bed, constantly wondering about the progress of the battle and if anyone was getting hurt.

“Ding.”

Another message came in. Jian Luo quickly opened it, and the sender was an unknown number. The message consisted of only four words, yet it exuded a hint of threat: “【We’ll meet again】.”

Jian Luo looked at those four words, feeling an inexplicable chill down his spine. Just as he was staring at it, the entire message suddenly disappeared from his contacts, as if it had never existed.

“…”

Who could this person be?

Jian Luo sighed and decided to keep himself occupied. He found a medical book in the bedside cabinet, which he had obtained from a certain someone. It contained descriptions of various herbs and different medical cases. In truth, the people from the Dark Star race rarely got sick, so this book wasn’t of much practical use. However, Jian Luo was genuinely interested in herbal medicine. He enjoyed cooking, and if cooking could also help treat people’s ailments, it was a win-win situation.

As he flipped through the book, Jian Luo made notes and studied. Eventually, with the sound of artillery fire from outside the warship, he fell asleep.

“Thud, thud, thud.”

After an unknown amount of time, there was a knocking sound at the door. Jian Luo woke up from his slumber, sat up, and looked towards the door, hesitating. “Who is it?”

A warm male voice came from outside, “Mr. Jian, I am the marshal’s adjutant. We’ve concluded the previous battle, and the marshal is currently handling post-war matters. I’ve been tasked to bring you some food.”

Jian Luo hesitated for a moment. He remembered what Secretary Jin and Lu Shifeng had told him – not to leave his room, not to go outside. What if this person outside wasn’t the adjutant but a ruse to lure him out?

With these thoughts in mind, he decided to be cautious. Jian Luo took a few small steps towards the table and picked up his communication bracelet. He sent a message to Lu Shifeng, “Is it over?”

There was no response for a while.

Frowning, Jian Luo sent a message to Secretary Jin, “Secretary Jin, is it over on your end?”

Secretary Jin also took a while to reply, “It’s over. What’s wrong, Luo Luo? I recall the marshal asked his adjutant to bring you food.”

Only after confirming did he feel at ease.

Jian Luo walked to the door and opened it. The adjutant stood there, upright. Behind him was a dining table, and upon seeing Jian Luo, he politely bowed and said, “I’ve brought your meal.”

Jian Luo nodded and gestured for him to enter. The meal was placed on the table, including chicken soup and various supplements.

Sitting on the sofa, Jian Luo still felt worried. “How’s the situation in the previous battle? Are there any casualties? How’s the marshal?”

The adjutant answered his questions conservatively and politely, “You don’t need to worry about the situation in the front lines. Take care of yourself.”

“…”

Jian Luo watched as the adjutant placed the dishes on the table, unable to help but ask, “What about Secretary Jin? Why did you have to come over?”

The adjutant maintained his respectful demeanor. “Secretary Jin is assisting in compiling the casualty list. I came over since the previous battle has ended. Is there anything wrong, Mr. Jian? Did I do something to displease you?”

Jian Luo shook his head, “No.”

After all the dishes were placed on the table, the adjutant said, “In the next few days, the front lines may be a bit busy. If it’s mealtime, I’ll be responsible for bringing you food.”

Jian Luo was puzzled, “What about the marshal?”

He remembered that Lu Shifeng had said that he would come to see him soon.

The adjutant stood still, and after a brief pause upon hearing the question, he gave a serious response, “It involves military secrets, and I can’t inform you. You don’t need to worry too much. Take care of the child and get some rest. I’m sure the marshal wouldn’t want anything to happen to the child. After he’s done with his work, he will come to see the child. If you’re okay with it, I’ll take my leave now.”

“……”

Actually, Jian Luo found it a bit strange. Although this adjutant seemed fine on the surface, there was something odd about how he spoke. Between the lines, it seemed like he was constantly bringing up children, as if he himself wasn’t important at all. It was all about the children, and it seemed like Lu Shifeng also valued the children. While there were no direct barbs in his words, every sentence seemed to carry a sting, as if he were deliberately making Jian Luo think more.

Who was he resenting?

Comparatively, Jian Luo suddenly felt that Lu Shifeng was more adorable.

Regardless of his thoughts, Jian Luo still maintained his composure and spoke politely to the adjutant, “Thank you for making the trip.”

The adjutant smiled, “You’re too kind. This is something I should do.”

On the other side, the adjutant left the room and returned to the front.

Secretary Jin had just returned from the medical area and still had a strong scent of blood on him. He casually asked, “Did Luo Luo say anything?”

The adjutant replied, “He didn’t ask.”

“Ah.” Secretary Jin was a bit surprised and sighed, “There’s no helping it. Luo Luo has been through a lot. I didn’t expect to encounter Silver Gray this time. Marshal’s situation is also uncertain. I just checked, and it doesn’t seem too severe, but we don’t know how long it will take for him to recover.”

The adjutant stood upright, removing his gloves. “Don’t worry, I’ll watch over him outside.”

Secretary Jin had great confidence in this loyal subordinate and nodded, “Please keep an eye on him.”

She left the room and saw the young assistant waiting outside. The assistant asked, “What did he say?”

“He’s just watching outside,” Secretary Jin sighed. “You know how serious Marshal’s condition is. It’s really gotten to him this time.”

No one could forget the terrifying scene back then.

In fact, it was rare to see Lu Shifeng lose his temper. Silver Gray was an interstellar thief, a habitual offender, but he had never dared to be too audacious in Dark Star’s territory because they were both branches of the Dragon Clan. They usually settled things with a fight when they met, and then went their separate ways.

The assistant sighed, “Who would have thought he crossed the line this time.”

Lu Shifeng had no intention of dealing with Silver Gray, but the problem was that Silver Gray’s plan targeted Jian Luo. Unfortunately, Jian Luo’s obsidian bracelet had a low defense rating, and it was easily broken. Silver Gray had managed to approach him.

Everyone knew how strong the Dragon Clan’s control and possessiveness were, especially when it came to Jian Luo, who was like Lu Shifeng’s very eyes. Touching Jian Luo now was like poking a hornet’s nest.

Secretary Jin recalled, “It’s been a long time since I’ve seen him in his dragon battle form.”

“That’s true,” the assistant agreed. “He rarely uses his dragon form in combat. It’s too terrifying.”

Secretary Jin didn’t want to dwell on it too much. When she had learned about this, Lu Shifeng had exuded a terrifying aura, and the enemy’s ships had practically collided with his on their own. They didn’t need any assistance. Facing an enraged Dragon King left no room for regret.

The smell of blood seemed to thicken the air.

The assistant whispered, “He hasn’t gone on a killing spree in a long time.”

Secretary Jin picked up a plate of food from the cafeteria and sat down at a table. “Yes… I don’t think it’s as severe as before this time.”

The assistant nodded after recalling. “Right, it doesn’t seem as severe as before.”

Lu Shifeng was usually reserved and refined, and his killing intent was not prominent. If anyone thought they could easily approach him, they were gravely mistaken. Lu Shifeng’s most terrifying aspect lay in his dragon battle form’s madness.

Bloodthirsty, the more he killed, the stronger he became.

Secretary Jin whispered, “Right after the war ended, Marshal was in a terrifying state. No one could get close to him, or they would risk being accidentally injured.”

The assistant fervently agreed, “Exactly!”

As they were talking, they heard Jian Luo’s voice from behind, “Sorry, what are you talking about? Can I join in?”

??!!

Secretary Jin shivered all over.

The assistant also exclaimed, “Luo Luo, when did you…”

Jian Luo was pushing a food cart behind him and innocently said, “The adjutant brought me some food. After I finished eating, I thought I’d return the dishes to the cafeteria. He didn’t tell me not to leave the room when he left, and Secretary Jin said it was over, so I went out to take a look.”

Secretary Jin peeled a small lobster and replied, “Well, I’ve been quite busy lately, especially with personnel matters. This area is something I can’t entrust to anyone else, so I might not be able to personally take care of you for a while.”

Jian Luo sat nearby and said, “It’s okay, the adjutant is very reliable.”

……

Silence filled the table.

The assistant sneered, “The adjutant is indeed quite something. He only listens to the Marshal’s orders and is usually difficult to approach.”

Secretary Jin nodded in agreement.

Jian Luo had a good idea of the situation now. He didn’t dwell on it too much since the adjutant wouldn’t harm Lu Shifeng, so he shifted his attention to another matter. “By the way, is the Marshal still around?”

Secretary Jin’s movements paused.

Jian Luo continued to ask, “Is he injured? Is he okay?”

Secretary Jin and the assistant exchanged a quick glance, and finally, the assistant lowered his head and pretended to be busy.

Secretary Jin, with a long road ahead, awkwardly replied, “Well, the Marshal has a lot of matters to attend to right now, Luo Luo, don’t worry, he’ll be here in a couple of days.”

Huh? Is he that busy?

Jian Luo looked around at the faces of Secretary Jin and the assistant, but all he saw were two heads buried in peeling small lobsters, and their expressions were unreadable.

“…”

Were they too tired to chat?

Not getting any useful information from here, Jian Luo felt a bit disappointed. Based on Lu Shifeng’s demeanor, he should be fine. After all, he wasn’t the kind of person to be overly dramatic. If someone didn’t come to him, it didn’t mean he wouldn’t live, right?

The Next Day

“This is bubble tea!”

A cheerful voice emanated from the kitchen.

Jian Luo, who had been experimenting with a new product in the kitchen after numerous trials, had finally created a cup of Red Heart Dragon Fruit Bubble Tea. It was sweet and delicious, with an endless flavor.

The cafeteria chef tasted a sip and widened his eyes, giving high praise, “Luo Luo, this is incredible! I tried dragon fruit before, and it was sour and bitter, but after your preparation, it’s sweet and not cloying!”

Jian Luo smiled, patting himself on the back because he had gained some weight due to this. He leaned on the counter and said, “Actually, I stopped liking dragon fruit since June. I drank a lot while making bubble tea, and I even made a sweetened version. You can try it too.”

The chef was incredibly moved, “Luo Luo, you’re truly talented. Dragon fruit used to taste sour and bitter to me, but now it’s sour and sweet, and it’s not cloying!”

Jian Luo scooped some dragon fruit and ate it, saying, “Because I can’t finish it myself. Dragon fruit trees bear fruit quickly, and I wasted a lot that I couldn’t eat. Let’s enjoy it together with bubble tea.”

The chef was touched.

Since Jian Luo joined the cafeteria, the number of soldiers eating there had doubled. Previously, most of them opted for nutrient fluid and only rushed to the cafeteria when it was mealtime. However, aside from that, there was another dish they never grew tired of: small lobsters.

Today, some soldiers saw several cups placed on the counter in front, containing a red drink that looked strange.

One soldier asked, “What’s this?”

The cafeteria chef explained, “This is Red Heart Dragon Fruit Bubble Tea, made from dragon fruit.”

“Dragon fruit?”

The soldiers looked at each other, and it was clear that some of them remembered the fear they had once felt when they were dominated by the sour and bitter taste of dragon fruit:

“That fruit is really hard to eat.”

“It’s even worse than nutrient fluid.”

“Isn’t it still going to be terrible when juiced?”

“A real dragon shouldn’t eat dragon fruit!”

The soldiers began to chatter loudly, expressing their disdain for dragon fruit. Quite a few of them had already picked up their meals and left, leaving the cups of Red Heart Dragon Fruit Bubble Tea untouched.

The cafeteria chef couldn’t help but sigh, jokingly saying, “I didn’t expect that even a new product developed by Luo Luo would have a day when it couldn’t be sold.”

The soldiers waiting for their meals were taken aback.

The chef asked, “What’s wrong?”

The soldiers’ gazes almost instantly became fervent, and one of them said, “Is it developed by Luo Luo?”

Others overheard:

“Is it developed by Jian Luo?”

“Is there a new product?”

“Is it that Red Heart Dragon Fruit?”

The cafeteria chef never expected that just mentioning Jian Luo’s name would be so effective. He said, “Yes, it’s developed by Luo Luo.”

With his words, the nearest soldier decisively took a cup of the drink and paid swiftly. He even ran away as if afraid of being robbed of it.

The soldiers behind him also got excited:

“I want one too.”

“Please get me one too.”

“A true dragon should drink this!”

The bubble tea quickly disappeared, and Jian Luo’s influence on the cafeteria chef was once again refreshed. And this person had only been a chef for a few days; he was truly impressive.

Jian Luo sat at a table in the cafeteria, watching a few soldiers who had bought the bubble tea. He was curious about their reactions, as he was concerned that dragons might not like sweet things. He had adjusted the flavor to strike a balance between sweet and sour.

After sipping the bubble tea, someone exclaimed, “Delicious!”

“Better than nutrient fluid.”

“Is this the real taste of dragon fruit?”

Jian Luo smiled, his heart secretly rejoicing. The most satisfying moment for a chef was being recognized.

Soon, soldiers began approaching him, and most of them had comments about the new product:

“You’re amazing, Luo Luo.”

“I feel happy every time I eat something you make.”

“Yes, it’s very comforting. Is this what happiness feels like?”

“No wonder, I was wondering why the Marshal seemed to be in a different state than before…”

The conversation suddenly came to a halt, and the entire place fell silent.

Jian Luo looked at everyone with suspicion. He was aware of the situation with the Dark Star people. Someone had told him before that the Dark Stars couldn’t generate their own happiness and needed external stimuli. He understood the previous sentences, but he didn’t quite understand the last one.

Jian Luo hesitated and asked, “What happened with the Dragon Brother?”

The soldier realized he had said something wrong and quickly stood up. “I, I just remembered there’s training and a mission. I need to go!”

Others followed suit:

“I have a mission too.”

“So do I.”

“I remembered I have something to do.”

“…”

Jian Luo watched them leave faster than anyone else.

Combining what he had heard accidentally from Secretary Jin a few days ago, he had a basic idea that something might not be quite right with Lu Shifeng. However, he didn’t know how severe the situation was. Was it so serious that they needed to keep it a secret from him, and why were they so afraid of him knowing?

After pondering for a while, Jian Luo finally returned to the cafeteria.

The chef was surprised to see him return. “Luo Luo?”

“Uncle,” Jian Luo replied honestly, “Can I make another meal?”

“Of course,” the chef didn’t refuse.

Jian Luo acted swiftly. He used the available ingredients to make some potato cakes, cooked a pot of congee, and stir-fried some eggs. Most of it was vegetarian since he wasn’t sure if Lu Shifeng had any injuries, and some wounds required a light diet. He hadn’t included much meat.

The chef looked at the food on the table and felt a bit conflicted. “…”

Jian Luo let out a sigh of relief and, seeing that the chef had agreed, he thought for a moment. He found a piece of paper and drew three small dragon eggs. Then he wrote, “Dragon Brother, stay strong!” He also added a small smiley face before handing it to the chef.

The chef nodded. “I’ll take it to him.”

“Thank you,” Jian Luo said, relieved.

With this matter resolved, he let out a sigh and went back to his room. He thought it was empty, but he saw Lu Shifeng’s adjutant standing at the door.

Jian Luo’s steps hesitated for a moment before he walked over. “Adjutant.”

The adjutant politely bowed and then stood up straight. “Mr. Jian, I’m here to record your information on the communication bracelet because your obsidian bracelet stopped working.”

Jian Luo nodded. “Okay.”

The two of them sat down on the couch, and the adjutant asked for Jian Luo’s household and court organization information. Jian Luo answered truthfully. Then the adjutant said, “Both of your relatives in the household belong to the Peaceful Haven household. The temporary household registration I applied for you has limitations, and only pure dragon household registrations have full permissions. So, I won’t register the information of your relatives. Is that okay with you?”

Jian Luo furrowed his brows. “Is it the only option?”

“Yes,” the adjutant replied, his gaze behind his glasses carrying a significant meaning. He continued, “Or you can wait until after your child is born, and then you can transfer your household registration to Peaceful Haven.”

Jian Luo didn’t express agreement or disagreement.

The adjutant withdrew his gaze. “I’ll continue organizing your information. Also, considering that you seem to be going out frequently recently, for safety reasons, I suggest you stay in your room. I’ll assist with food delivery. Human bodies are fragile, and I hope you won’t add unnecessary trouble for me.”

Jian Luo leaned against the couch, looked at the adjutant, and smiled, “Adjutant, it seems like you have a lot of opinions about me. Do you want me to stay inside all the time, not going out to receive any news?”

The adjutant’s hands paused for a moment, and he denied it, “You’re overthinking it.”

“Really?” Jian Luo grinned, feeling a bit triumphant. “I thought you liked Marshal Lu Shifeng.”

The adjutant fell silent for a moment. “No.”

Jian Luo tilted his head and looked at him, smiling, “You don’t need to have such concerns about me. You also don’t need to always remind me that I’m a human. You treat it as a treasure, but not everyone thinks that way. I don’t plan to bother myself with it after giving birth to my child. You’ve been worrying too much.”

Since June, he had felt a bit tired. If he had to deal with the adjutant’s strange attitude every day, it was better to have a conversation and clear things up. After waiting for a while, he saw the adjutant looking at him with a deep gaze and asking, “You don’t like him?”

Jian Luo choked.

He inexplicably felt a bit flustered. “Me?”

Chapter 82 – Humans are quite tender

Chapter 82 – Humans are quite tender

All eyes were on Jian Luo’s figure. Jian Luo appeared nervous under the scrutiny of everyone. He glanced at Lu Shifeng, and even the dragon clan members who had been causing a commotion below dared not do so anymore.

If it were anyone else, they might still dare to compete and stir up trouble to get Jian Luo to choose them. But when it came to Lu Shifeng, they truly didn’t dare. The dragon clan was known for its strong possessiveness, and Jian Luo exuded the scent of a dragon all over him. It was obvious that he belonged to Lu Shifeng. If any dragon tried to cause trouble now, it wouldn’t be a simple battle.

This was practically a matter of life and death.

The dragons exchanged knowing glances and decided to remain silent, waiting for Jian Luo to make his own choice.

After some contemplation, Jian Luo looked up with curiosity. “Aren’t you supposed to be the safe bet?”

Lu Shifeng stood by his side, looking down at him from a higher vantage point. He raised an eyebrow, his expression resembling a smile but with an underlying threat. His tone was elegant yet carried a hint of menace. “In that case, keep your wager unchanged.”

Even though the words were as gentle as a spring breeze, they somehow sounded intimidating. Jian Luo hesitated for a moment, looking at Lu Shifeng’s smile. For some reason, he felt a chill running down his spine, and a strong survival instinct made him change his statement. “I choose you!”

Lu Shifeng raised an eyebrow. “A voluntary bet, Mr. Jian, no need to force yourself.”

“No…no,” Jian Luo chuckled awkwardly. “It’s voluntary. If it’s Lu Shifeng, please change it for me.”

The dragons below fell into silence.

Jian Luo, if you were kidnapped, you’d just blink your eyes.

Sitting there, Jian Luo was uncomfortable, but he was also very interested in the battle among the dragons. The venue here was a large arena where a virtual battle would take place once they entered.

The dragons were discussing how to set up a fair competition.

Just when they were all pondering the rules, Lu Shifeng spoke up directly. “Let’s begin.”

The other soldiers looked at the Dragon King with surprise.

Lu Shifeng took a step forward and entered the virtual battle chamber. He said, “Stay in your true forms, all of you.”

The room fell silent.

Everyone knew Lu Shifeng was strong, but no one had expected him to be this formidable.

Jian Luo’s heart raced as he asked his secretary, “What does staying in our true forms mean?”

“It means the marshal will use his human form,” the secretary explained in a hushed tone. “The other dragons will remain in their dragon forms.”

Jian Luo was shocked. He could hardly believe it. “Doesn’t that make it very dangerous?”

The battle had already begun on the screen. Lu Shifeng stood on the plain, with several dragons circling in the sky and others lurking on the ground not far away. The dragons watched Lu Shifeng vigilantly, carefully seeking an opportunity.

The secretary whispered, “The truly formidable ones are dangerous in their very essence.”

Confused, Jian Luo blinked, and suddenly, his body that had been standing in the grassy field disappeared. It all seemed to happen in an instant. When one of the dragons noticed, Lu Shifeng had already leaped onto its back.

The dragons in the sky wanted to swoop down but hesitated, fearing they might harm their comrades. A dagger swished through the air, and the dragon tried to dodge, but a momentary mistake led to Lu Shifeng’s victory.

“Bang!”

The elimination mark was hit, and the dragon was out of the competition.

Lu Shifeng almost had complete control of the field, and the other soldiers held their breath, witnessing a battle that was evenly matched and thrilling.

In the end, the remaining few dragons adjusted their strategy and collectively attacked Lu Shifeng from various angles, leaving him with no way to retreat.

It was truly dangerous!

Jian Luo’s heart raced, and it felt like it might leap out of his throat any moment now! The screen displayed a cloud of smoke, making it impossible to see the final result, leaving everyone in suspense. Jian Luo’s palms were sweaty, and he turned to his secretary, asking, “Who won?”

The secretary couldn’t be sure either and hesitated, saying, “I guess it must be the marshal.”

But this battle had been so thrilling that if Lu Shifeng had lost, it wouldn’t have been surprising at all.

Jian Luo bit his lip and kept his eyes fixed on the big screen, holding his breath, unknowingly praying for Lu Shifeng’s victory.

After a while, a mechanical voice came through, “All challengers have failed. Please exit the chamber promptly.”

The chambers for the challengers were all opened, and when the soldiers from the challenging team sat up, they were almost in a daze. The dragons exchanged puzzled glances and scratched their heads.

Finally, Lu Shifeng’s chamber opened. It was a 1v6 match, an overwhelming victory, and the silence in the room was broken by thunderous cheers.

Jian Luo let out a sigh of relief.

Lu Shifeng walked out of the virtual battle chamber, and in a few steps, he stood in front of Jian Luo. His handsome face carried a hint of the fierceness that had just come from the battlefield, a touch of pressure. He asked, “So…”

Before he could continue, Jian Luo suddenly felt something strange in his abdomen. He furrowed his brow, placed a hand on his stomach, and let out a stifled groan.

Lu Shifeng’s expression changed.

Even the dragons who had been watching this situation from a distance grew nervous when they saw Jian Luo’s sudden discomfort, their attention now focused on him.

The atmosphere became somewhat tense.

Jian Luo remained silent for a while, then he looked up at Lu Shifeng with a faint smile. “It seems like… it just kicked.”

Lu Shifeng’s tension eased, and he gave Jian Luo a disapproving look.

“It’s probably excited,” Jian Luo continued with a playful tone. “Because its dad is so strong and amazing!”

He stretched out the last word, half-jokingly.

Jian Luo had only intended to make a casual joke, but as he paused and saw Lu Shifeng’s expression, he was met with a pair of crimson, quite serious eyes.

Jian Luo gulped, and an unusual emotion stirred within him. His ears turned slightly red, his eyelashes trembled, and he whispered softly, “Just kidding.”

Lu Shifeng shifted his gaze away and said calmly, “Are you tired?”

“Just a little.”

“Alright.” Lu Shifeng turned to his secretary. “Take him back to eat something and rest.”

The secretary nodded.

Jian Luo couldn’t help but blurt out, “Are you going to work now?”

Speaking without thinking was a dangerous habit, and Jian Luo could certainly attest to that.

Lu Shifeng paused and then turned around. “If you find it boring, you can wander around. Except for the restricted areas marked in red, you’re free to explore the ship. We’ll arrive at our destination in three days, and by then, I can take you sightseeing.”

Jian Luo nodded. “Okay.”

But he wasn’t a child.

As they headed back, Jian Luo couldn’t help but ask his secretary, “We’re not going to engage in any battles this time, right? It still feels quite tense.”

“In reality, our purpose for this trip is to visit on behalf of the Emperor, and the danger level is not high. It’s just to show respect. On the other side, the Great Dragons are almost on par with our Emperor,” the secretary explained. “But everyone is a bit tense because this route we’re taking is frequented by interstellar pirates. There might be some unexpected situations, but don’t worry, the probability is very low.”

Almost as soon as he finished speaking, the lights in the corridor suddenly flickered.

Jian Luo and the secretary both stopped in their tracks, exchanging incredulous glances. They could sense the tension in the air.

The secretary reacted quickly. “Luo Luo, come with me.”

The two of them quickly returned to Lu Shifeng’s room. By this time, the corridor’s alarm had sounded, and a mechanical voice echoed:

“Full military alert.”

“Full military alert.”

The secretary instructed Jian Luo to stay inside the room and not open the door. “Luo Luo, please, stay in this room. It’s absolutely safe. Don’t come out, don’t open the door, just stay in the room, okay?”

Jian Luo understood the seriousness of the situation and nodded, saying, “I understand. You don’t need to worry.”

Seeing that Jian Luo was cooperating, the secretary left the room. Indeed, Lu Shifeng’s room had excellent soundproofing, and once inside, even the outside alarm couldn’t be heard. Jian Luo sat on the room’s sofa, feeling somewhat anxious.

*Ding.*

The sound of a message alert came from the communication terminal. Jian Luo quickly opened it and found a concise message from Lu Shifeng: “Stay in the room, I’ll be back soon.”

Surprisingly, those few simple words reassured him. Jian Luo replied, “Okay, don’t worry, I won’t wander around.”

After ending the communication, Jian Luo sat on the sofa, his mind filled with various thoughts. To pass the time, he opened the communication terminal to check the backstage of his livestream, tally the total earnings, see if there were any adjustments needed in the food vending section, and also check the recent styles of the popular streamers on the website.

As he was engrossed in this, a sudden pop-up window appeared, and no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t close it. Just as he was contemplating whether to restart the communication wristband, the pop-up window suddenly succeeded in opening, gradually revealing the face of a masked man who looked rather eerie.

His gaze was fixed directly on Jian Luo, making him feel uncomfortable all over.

Jian Luo furrowed his brow and had an instinctual feeling that this person was not to be trifled with. “Who are you?”

“Curious?” The man’s voice was hoarse, and he seemed to chuckle under the mask. “Heard you saved Darkstar from infertility. I’ve been wanting to see who you are. How come you look so delicate, like a little rabbit? Hope I didn’t get the wrong guy.”

Jian Luo remained silent, his guard up.

Chapter 81 – Who are they betting on?

Chapter 81 -Who are they betting on?

Jian Luo brought back some crayfish.

Today’s harvest was quite abundant, which was really satisfying. Originally, he thought he wouldn’t be able to enjoy many Earth foods, but it turned out to be okay. Every time, he seemed to unexpectedly discover pleasant surprises, which made him very happy.

The resting area was very close, so after returning, he put the crayfish down and went to take a shower. Actually, since he had boarded the warship, he hadn’t been feeling quite comfortable. Perhaps it was because he was a bit seasick. Although it had improved a lot, he still wanted to freshen up and sleep.

After finishing his shower and coming out, Jian Luo pushed open the bathroom door and saw Lu Shifeng waiting outside.

The Marshal sat elegantly on the sofa, raising an eyebrow as he looked at him. “You’re out?”

Jian Luo scratched his head for a moment and nodded. “Yeah.”

The room still had the scent of crayfish. Jian Luo realized this and took a few small steps to sit next to Lu Shifeng.

“Try this crayfish.” Jian Luo opened the food container. “Actually, I made it as an experiment. See if it tastes good.”

To prevent the Marshal from getting his hands dirty, Jian Luo had even brought gloves. Although he himself didn’t always like using gloves. It was mainly because with plastic gloves, the sharp crayfish shells could easily puncture them.

Lu Shifeng watched Jian Luo peeling the crayfish and then started peeling one for himself.

Jian Luo commented, “You don’t actually need to peel them. Our human stomachs might have trouble digesting the shells, but you can just… swallow them whole.”

After Lu Shifeng finished peeling, he handed it to Jian Luo.

Jian Luo hesitated as he looked at the crayfish meat in front of him. “Is this for me?”

Lu Shifeng’s blood-red eyes stared at Jian Luo, and there seemed to be a glint of light in his eyes. He raised an eyebrow, “You’ve been salivating.”

“…”

Well, honesty was the best policy. Jian Luo took it with a slightly embarrassed tone. “I’ll just have one.”

Lu Shifeng glanced at him and there was a hint of a smile in his eyes.

When the Marshal peeled the crayfish, it was much easier than Jian Luo’s efforts. His fingertips had a few scales that seemed sharp. When the crayfish shells touched them, they opened easily. Each of them had one, and they took turns eating.

Finally, Jian Luo wanted to make a comment. “Dragon scales are really nice!”

Lu Shifeng glanced at him. “Did you have concerns about them before?”

“…”

Jian Luo wiped his hands, feeling a bit embarrassed. He spoke honestly, “I think the scales are great, especially in the summer. I really like them.”

Lu Shifeng continued to look at him.

“I mean…” Jian Luo’s heart was pounding as he spoke, “they feel so cool. Even though it’s sometimes a bit hot, the scales are really refreshing, colder than hugging an icebox!”

Lu Shifeng said, “So, does that mean you’d find me uncomfortable in winter?”

“I wouldn’t dare,” Jian Luo hurriedly said, “In winter, you can always warm up, right?”

There was a moment of silence in the room.

Jian Luo looked at Lu Shifeng’s stern face. When he didn’t smile, the Marshal’s expression appeared somewhat severe, with a strong presence that was somewhat intimidating.

Jian Luo couldn’t help but hesitate about whether to say more.

After scaring him a bit, Lu Shifeng finally smiled and pointed to the remaining two crayfish on the table. “There are two left, help yourself.”

If people knew that these were the precious dragon scales, coveted by many and capable of protecting against all poisons, being used as a personal air conditioner and portable heater, they would probably be furious.

Jian Luo didn’t feel sleepy at all after eating.

He stretched lazily and took the initiative. “Dragon brother, didn’t you arrange a training mission for me? I want to give it a try.”

Lu Shifeng lounged on the sofa, probably due to his recent return from the battlefield. There was an indelible air of fierceness about this man that made him less refined and more dangerous. He stood up and looked down at Jian Luo. “Let’s go.”

Jian Luo stared at him, looking somewhat clueless. “Where are we going?”

“Aren’t we going to train?” Lu Shifeng said. “I’ll take you for some fun.”

As they walked through the corridor, the soldiers they encountered would salute them.

“Marshal!”

“Hello, Marshal!”

“Marshal…”

Then, when it was time for the person to salute Jian Luo, everyone looked at each other. Some of the young soldiers who didn’t know Jian Luo suddenly didn’t know what to call him. Should they address him as “Madam” or by his title? In the end, the more clever ones would call out:

“Hello, Chef!”

“Good day, Cook!”

Jian Luo waved and greeted those who saluted him. For a human, being able to exchange greetings with nobility in this way was quite remarkable.

As they entered the training hall, Jian Luo thought his training area would be private as it was the last time he was here. However, this time, there were quite a few people here.

Normally, he wouldn’t be nervous, but when he saw so many people at once, he felt a bit overwhelmed. Jian Luo looked at Lu Shifeng and asked, “What are we training for?”

“Aren’t we bored?” Lu Shifeng glanced at him. “We’re here to watch them play.”

“Alright.”

The Dragon race was naturally strong and skilled in combat. They spent their lives either fighting or preparing for a fight. When people noticed Jian Luo, they gave him curious looks.

Jian Luo felt a bit nervous, but not overly so. He was used to facing large crowds as a live streamer. Other than some nervousness, he was fine. Surprisingly, the Dragon race did not act as he had feared. Instead, they were quite welcoming.

“Is he the chef who cooks crayfish?”

“He’s so cute!”

“Is he pregnant? I can smell a baby.”

“Lower your voice, what if you startle him?”

The Dragons chattered like this, looking at Jian Luo with pity, as if he were a little kitten. Lu Shifeng stood beside Jian Luo and spoke firmly, “Quiet.”

In an instant, everyone fell silent.

Lu Shifeng led Jian Luo to the front row, and the Dragons watched their Dragon King and a tiny human with curiosity.

Lu Shifeng said, “Continue your group match.”

When there was no fighting to be done, the Dragons often engaged in group battles. The winning team would receive substantial rewards. Others could also bet on which team would win. A brigadier leading a team asked Lu Shifeng, “Marshal, would you like to join in?”

Lu Shifeng shook his head. “You all go ahead.”

The most exciting part of these battles was the betting. People would bet on their favorite teams and win big if they were right. A secretary named Jin asked Jian Luo, “Lolo, would you like to bet?”

Jian Luo nodded. He looked at the teams and suddenly remembered the group he had eaten hotpot with earlier. He said, “I’ll bet on them.”

Jin nodded, “Alright, do you want to place a wager?”

Originally, it wouldn’t have been a big deal, but Jin’s words caught the interest of the other Dragons. What kind of bet could a human offer that would entice Dragons?

The Dragons looked at Jian Luo expectantly.

With all eyes on him, Jian Luo hesitated for a moment before speaking, “If that team wins, I’ll cook any dish they want, anything they fancy.”

Once he said this, the entire place erupted in excitement. The Dragons had a deep affection for Jian Luo, especially after he had introduced them to crayfish.

The team Jian Luo bet on, the ones he had shared hotpot with, were now incredibly motivated to win. The brigadier asked Lu Shifeng, “My lord, shall we begin?”

Lu Shifeng sat above them, toying with something in his hand. He asked, “What did you ask me before?”

The brigadier was puzzled.

Lu Shifeng reminded him, “The previous question.”

“Uh… would you like to join in, my lord?”

Lu Shifeng stood up. “Yes.”

For a moment, there was silence in the arena. Then, the Dragon soldiers erupted into deafening cheers. Everyone was excited to see the Dragon King join the battle. They all wanted to get guidance from the War God himself and witness his unparalleled skills firsthand.

But there was a problem.

Jin, the secretary, looked at Jian Luo. “Lolo, whom will you bet on? Do you want to change your wager?”

With all eyes on him, Jian Luo hesitated. Not betting on your own man… that wouldn’t be good.
