Chapter 86 – Really a wicked person

Chapter 86 (Extra 9)

Yu Wuxia didn’t dare to hold down Jia Heng directly, so he pretended to twist his ankle and fell onto Jia Heng.

The tiger groaned as he was hit, his black eyes half-closed, seemingly looking at Yu Wuxia with some disdain.

Yu Wuxia didn’t get off the tiger. Instead, he took hold of the tiger’s two front paws, staring intently at him.

The tiger felt embarrassed and avoided his gaze.

Yu Wuxia asked, “Master, why won’t you look at me?”

The tiger ground his teeth but said nothing.

Yu Wuxia’s Adam’s apple moved slightly as he swallowed. He leaned down, his breath scattering on the tiger’s face, and kissed the tiger’s furry face.

The tiger’s eyes widened instantly, his black pupils shrinking in shock, staring at Yu Wuxia like black beans.

How… how could he kiss him!

Such frivolous behavior!

Yu Wuxia swallowed again. “Master, I told you before, if you don’t respond when I ask you something, I’ll kiss you until you do.”

Jia Heng had probably never heard such shameless words before, his chest shaking with anger as he exposed sharp claws, ready to swat Yu Wuxia away.

Yu Wuxia quickly said, “Master, I just formed my human shape. If you hit me with your paw, I might revert to my original form.” To see Jia Heng sooner, he didn’t dare to slack off for even a moment while cultivating as a relic, allowing him to come out seven years earlier than planned.

Jia Heng’s movements froze upon hearing this, though the anger in his eyes didn’t diminish, and he let out a threatening growl.

“Master, if you want to scold me, just say it directly. Don’t express it with your eyes.

Otherwise, no matter how long you glare at me, I won’t know what you’re saying.”

Yu Wuxia spoke “honestly,” still not getting up, pressing down on Jia Heng and feeling his clean, smooth fur through the layer of clothes.

Even though there was a layer of clothing, the fur felt very good to touch.

Master is perfect in every way.

When in tiger form, his fur is smooth. In human form, his lips are red, and his teeth are white.

Jia Heng closed his eyes, initially not wanting to deal with this troublesome disciple, but remembering his disciple’s threat, he reluctantly spoke, “Let go of me.”

No matter how dissatisfied he was with Yu Wuxia, Jia Heng had cultivated to become an Immortal for many years and had never uttered a curse word.

Yu Wuxia noticed his master speaking, the corner of his mouth twitching slightly. As long as his master spoke, it was good enough for him.

Even if it was to scold him.

He released Jia Heng, who immediately stood up, shaking the dirt off his body and letting out another low growl to show his displeasure.

Yu Wuxia took a step forward, reaching out to touch Jia Heng, who turned abruptly, pretending to bite his finger, intending to scare him away.

But to his surprise, Yu Wuxia’s arm didn’t dodge, and his teeth sank into Yu Wuxia’s finger. He quickly let go, but it was too late. Yu Wuxia’s index and middle fingers were skinned, his teeth reaching the bone, and blood gushed out.

Jia Heng opened his mouth, his face full of tiger fur showing no emotion, but inexplicably giving off a sense of guilt.

Why… didn’t Yu Wuxia dodge?

Yu Wuxia clutched his fingers, tears welling up in his eyes from either pain or sadness, biting his lip as he looked at Jia Heng.

Jia Heng met his gaze, feeling more and more guilty.

He had just wanted to scare him.

“Master, your teeth are very sharp.”

Yu Wuxia didn’t complain much, just this simple sentence made Jia Heng’s previous dissatisfaction vanish, leaving only guilt.

Jia Heng said, “Why didn’t you dodge?”

Yu Wuxia held back his joy, for his master had voluntarily spoken to him again. He put on a facade of toughness, “Master, I’m currently without cultivation, weaker than an ordinary person, I couldn’t dodge.”

Jia Heng’s lips moved slightly, and after a moment of silence, he said, “The herbs you ground earlier, apply them to your wound when you return.”

“Okay.”

Yu Wuxia followed behind, his eyes burning as he looked at Jia Heng, his gaze filled with madness and possessiveness, never waning.

As he followed, his body suddenly lost control and turned into a relic, falling to the ground.

Jia Heng noticed the lack of presence behind him, turned around, and lowered his head to find the grayish-brown relic in the grassy field. Due to his finger injury, there was a tiny scratch on one corner of the relic.

A moment of stillness passed through Jia Heng’s eyes as he picked up the relic with his mouth and returned to the cave.

He placed the relic down, surprised to see it turn completely red, the redness almost bleeding, making him study it carefully.

How strange.

The relic could change color.

Was something wrong?

He leaned in, his breath lightly touching the relic, seeing it turn even redder, almost bleeding. He guessed it might be stained with blood from Yu Wuxia’s injury.

But how could such a small wound bleed so much?

Jia Heng couldn’t figure it out, feeling a bit guilty, saying, “Cultivate well, apply the medicine yourself once you return to human form.”

After saying this, he turned away, no longer looking at the relic.

That night, he couldn’t help but turn his head occasionally to check the relic, wondering when Yu Wuxia would transform.

Until the next evening, the relic hadn’t transformed, but the strange red color had faded.

He had no heart for hunting, staying in the cave, already a day and night without Yu Wuxia transforming. Could that bite have seriously hurt Yu Wuxia?

He got up to check the relic again, focusing on it, discovering that the relic was turning red again, initially with spots of red, gradually merging into patches.

Jia Heng clicked his tongue, guessing this wasn’t an injury, but an expression of Yu Wuxia’s emotions.

Was it blushing?

Realizing this, Jia Heng felt uneasy, letting out a low growl, turning away from Yu Wuxia again. When he had brought the relic back yesterday, it was completely red, probably because…

Jia Heng’s face turned red too, with a faint heat.

Feeling unsettled, he shook his fur and ran out, dashing and leaping through the forest, trying to suppress or vent something. The moonlight filtered through, like thin fog floating in the forest, as he weaved through the mist, running over rocky hills, never stopping.

The wind howled in his ears, as if chasing him.

He squinted his eyes and ran to the top of the mountain. Only then did he stop, standing at the peak, facing the fierce night wind. The strange irritability in his heart hadn’t subsided; instead, it had grown stronger. His mind involuntarily drifted to Yu Wuxia.

The tiger sighed helplessly, crouching on the ground like a bewildered big cat.

It wasn’t until dawn, after finishing the hunt, that the tiger returned to the cave.

As soon as he entered the cave, he bumped into a tall, slender man. The tiger paused, avoiding his gaze. The man wasn’t wearing a cassock, just a thin white robe that clung to his body.

He bent down and patted the tiger’s head. The tiger, feeling as if his reverse scale had been touched, roared angrily to intimidate him.

“Master, where did you go?”

The tiger didn’t want to respond, turning his head to rest on the stone bed, but Yu Wuxia grabbed his ear. Hugging the tiger’s neck, he kissed the tiger’s forehead, looking into his confused and even terrified eyes.

“…,” the tiger thought.

“Master, where did you go?” Yu Wuxia repeated slowly, turning the tiger’s head to face him. His rosy lips moved as he spoke, so close that the tiger could feel his breath.

The tiger was really angry, not understanding how someone could be so shameless. Seeing Yu Wuxia leaning in for another kiss, the tiger reluctantly said, “Hunting.”

“Oh.” Yu Wuxia’s eyes curved with a warm smile. “Master, you don’t need to hunt anymore. I’ll make food for you.”

Yu Wuxia turned around, and only then did the tiger notice the pile of firewood inside the cave, with two flints nearby, a small fire slowly burning, and a plucked wild chicken roasting on a spit.

While expertly roasting the chicken, Yu Wuxia said mysteriously, “Master, don’t you think this wild chicken looks like the Demon Lord’s true form?”

“…,” Jiaheng thought.

He didn’t expect that after all this time, Yu Wuxia still remembered the Demon Lord.

Jiaheng, afraid of the fire, kept his distance. “Do you still want revenge on him?”

“No.” Yu Wuxia smiled, flames dancing in his eyes. “I’ve won so many times; it’s time to let him win once.”

Though he said this, Yu Wuxia felt that losing once outweighed winning a thousand times.

Only after losing did he realize that his master cared for him too.

After finishing roasting the chicken, Yu Wuxia handed it to Jiaheng. Jiaheng said, “I’m not hungry, you eat.”

“I’m currently in my true form; I don’t need food. What I need is…”

“What?” Jiaheng asked, biting into the chicken.

“The essence of a man.”

“Ugh.”

The tiger coughed violently, his chest trembling and his back twitching. Yu Wuxia gently patted his back, his voice husky in the dim light, “Master, you’re the best.”

“Yu Wuxia!”

The tiger glared at him, unaware that a piece of chicken was stuck to his fur, making his angry expression oddly comical.

Yu Wuxia’s eyes darkened, and he leaned in, licking the chicken off the tiger’s mouth, smiling deeply, “Everything Master eats becomes especially delicious.”

“…,” Jiaheng thought.

Jiaheng wanted to slap him away but held back upon seeing his pale face.

“Master, can you transform into a human? You’re always in tiger form, and it’s a bit inconvenient for me.”

“What inconvenience?” Jiaheng asked coldly.

“Just some inconvenience.” Yu Wuxia noticed that his master’s thoughts were now influenced by him, calming his excitement, and hugged the tiger’s neck.

The tiger’s body suddenly stiffened.

“It’s inconvenient to get close to you.” Yu Wuxia’s gaze lowered, his long eyelashes almost brushing against the tiger’s fur. The tiger, uncomfortable, struggled to push him away, but in the next moment, the tiger suddenly transformed into human form.

Jiaheng wasn’t tall, but his figure was thin and delicate, with fair skin and a youthful face. Suddenly transforming from a tiger to a human, he was completely naked.

Every inch of his white skin was exposed, illuminated by the flickering firelight, like a veil of firelight.

Jiaheng hadn’t seen himself in human form for a long time. Upon seeing himself, he instinctively curled up, trying to cover his naked body, but there was nothing in the cave.

He had to cross his arms over his chest, glaring angrily at Yu Wuxia.

Yu Wuxia, at this moment, was staring intently at Jiaheng, with blood slowly trickling from his nostrils.

“…,” Jiaheng thought.

What a wicked disciple.

Truly a wicked disciple.

Chapter 17 – Gu Lizhou, a Rich Fool Of a Bastard

“Come in and have a seat.” Cao Zhiheng opened the door and began clearing the various props off the sofa. “It’s a bit messy ah, hope you don’t mind.”

“It’s fine, it’s fine.”

Zhong Weishi had lived here for many years, but this was the first time he had been properly invited into someone’s apartment. He glanced around and thought to himself that an artist’s world… really was messier than usual.

Cao Zhiheng had a kind face and was quick to strike up a conversation, which made him seem much more approachable than Zhong Weishi had imagined.

“Are you making props for a film crew ah?” Zhong Weishi asked.

“Yo, sharp eye, you can tell at a glance ah.” Cao Zhiheng laughed. “Most people assume I’m a carpenter at first glance.”

Zhong Weishi chuckled, picking up a small wooden jewelry box with a label from the film crew stuck underneath: “The Best Inn in the Capital.”

He had some impression of this TV show; the director He Gu was quite famous in the circle. Someone in the group chat had mentioned that filming would start soon, but then there had been no updates. What a coincidence—this artist was actually making props for that production?

“The stuff is quite exquisite. This must have taken quite a bit of time to make?”

“Not too bad. The one you’re holding took about two weeks to finish. The intricate carving work on the hollow parts was the most time-consuming,” Cao Zhiheng said.

“Is the drama already being filmed now?” Zhong Weishi asked.

“Uh, yeah, just started last week.” Cao Zhiheng poured him a cup of warm water.

“Thanks.”

Previously, Zhong Weishi had only ever exchanged nods with him, but after a bit of conversation, he found that this person’s personality was quite good. He asked, “Then, are you familiar with the crew’s coordinator? The one in charge of casting actors.”

“Quite familiar ah, why? Do you want to audition ah? The lead roles have already been cast, and they usually recruit those well in advance,” Cao Zhiheng said.

“No, no, no,” Zhong Weishi waved his hand, “I was just asking casually. If they happen to be short on extras or small supporting roles, do you think you could maybe help introduce me? I can do wire stunts, flips, play a corpse—anything!”

Ancient martial arts dramas often required a lot of wirework. It wasn’t that the new generation of actors weren’t willing to put in the effort; they just hadn’t mastered the skills yet. As soon as they were hoisted up, they’d start flailing and screaming, making some scenes better suited for professional stunt doubles to save time and effort.

Cao Zhiheng nodded, “Sure ah, I’ll ask around for you later.”

Zhong Weishi was so excited that his face lit up with joy. “Then, thank you so much! Let’s add each other as friends!”

“Okay.” Cao Zhiheng took out his phone.

Zhong Weishi quickly asked, “What’s your Wi-Fi password, by the way?”

The two were engrossed in conversation when the sound of running water in the bathroom suddenly stopped.

Zhong Weishi paused for a moment, reminded of his main reason for coming over tonight. He turned his head to look.

A man’s bare upper body unexpectedly came into his view.

Gu Lizhou, who usually lived alone, didn’t have the habit of bringing a pile of clothes into the bathroom with him. So when he came to Cao Zhiheng’s place, it was no different for him—it felt as casual as being at home, free of restraints.

After showering, he didn’t bother drying his hair, so it hung wet and dripping. A light gray striped towel was slung loosely around his neck. He was wrapped in a white bath towel around his waist, but it was so loose that it looked like it might fall off after just a few steps.

Zhong Weishi’s first reaction was that this guy actually had a pretty good physique.

The muscles on his arms weren’t particularly bulky, but the lines were well-defined. His chest was slightly flushed from the hot water, and droplets of water from his hair trickled down his chest and abs. His whole body seemed to still be surrounded by the warmth of the steam, and the faint outline of his V-lines disappeared beneath the bath towel.

“Give me a minute, I’ll put on some clothes,” Gu Lizhou said, wiping his hair.

“Oh.” Zhong Weishi hurriedly looked away.

Gu Lizhou walked over to them, took a sip of water, and then turned to head toward the bedroom. Zhong Weishi’s eyes uncontrollably followed him again.

Was he not wearing underwear?

Above that was a sharply defined waistline…

There was a large black tattoo on his slightly protruding shoulder blade. Before Zhong Weishi could make out the design, Gu Lizhou had already shut the door behind him.

Seeing how wide-eyed Zhong Weishi was, Cao Zhiheng couldn’t help but wave his hand and tease him, “What are you staring at? Into guys, are you?”

Zhong Weishi immediately retorted, “No, I just thought I saw a tattoo on him.”

“So what if he has a tattoo?” Cao Zhiheng chuckled. “Haven’t you seen him? He smokes, gets perms, and has tattoos, but he’s not a bad guy.”

“I didn’t mean that.” Zhong Weishi lowered his head and muttered softly like a mosquito, “I do think that he’s a nice person.”

Only when he reached for the mug next to him to take a sip, did he realized… it was empty.

Cao Zhiheng laughed apologetically, “Sorry, all the cups here look the same. Let me wash it and pour you another one.”

Zhong Weishi put the cup back down as if he’d pinched a hot potato. “No, no, it’s fine. I won’t drink…”

Then he suddenly realized something. “I mean, I’m not bothered by it… I’m just not thirsty.”

God ah! What the hell was he talking about!

Zhong Weishi felt like a white soul was floating out of the back of his head and hovering above him.

Cao Zhiheng let out a laugh and didn’t say anything.

“What’s up?” Gu Lizhou emerged from the bedroom, still fastening the waistband of his pants. Dressed in a simple sports outfit with his bangs hanging down, he looked like he was only in his 20s.

“Oh, about that,” The moment Zhong Weishi met Gu Lizhou’s gaze, all the lines he’d been rehearsing along the way got stuck in his throat. “These clothes, I feel like I don’t really need to dress up this much…”

“Want to return it?” Gu Lizhou saw through him instantly.

“Ah…” Zhong Weishi nodded in relief. “Did you keep the receipt? I’ll take it to the mall tomorrow and check.”

“Nope.” Gu Lizhou answered quickly.

Cao Zhiheng figured it out, his eyes suspicious: “Wait, you bought him those clothes ah? You ripped his clothes? How’d you break it ah?”

Gu Lizhou didn’t deny it, pouring some water into his cup. “If you don’t want to wear it, just give it away.”

Cao Zhiheng glanced at Zhong Weishi, then at his brother, sensing something unusual.

Zhong Weishi’s eyes widened.

Like he’d give it away!

Never mind how expensive this shirt was, even if it was worth just 20 yuan, he wouldn’t give it away…

In this world, aside from Grandma Zhao, no one else had ever bought him clothes.

Naturally, he couldn’t just accept the gift without reciprocating. Zhong Weishi had just searched for the brand on Taobao and saw the retail price.

A 9% discount still made it over 800 yuan.

He looked up, determined: “Give me some paper and a pen.”

Cao Zhiheng, realizing he was going to write an IOU, quickly said, “Xiao Didi, it’s just a piece of clothing, no need for that.”

Gu Lizhou immediately put on a ‘Does laozi looks like a person who lacks that little money?’ expression, waving it off. “En, there’s really no need.”

Zhong Weishi looked at him, “Don’t be stubborn with me! I’m someone who’s always had my own principles. I don’t like casually owing people favors.”

Cao Zhiheng, the fence-sitter, immediately switched sides: “Yes, yes, yes, owing someone a favor is the hardest to repay. Old Gu! If he wants to repay you, just let him.”

Gu Lizhou thought this stupid kid must have drunk too much of the fake alcohol. Wasn’t he usually pretty happy when taking advantage of him?

It wasn’t like he bought the clothes today for the purpose of giving away favors.

But while he hesitated, Cao Zhiheng had already handed over paper and pen, buzzing in Zhong Weishi’s ear like a bee: “Just a little gesture will do ah, don’t take it too seriously. When dealing with a stupid rich bastard like him, we’d be fools if we don’t pit him.”

The stupid rich bastard kicked him.

Gu Lizhou didn’t even care about what Zhong Weishi was writing, until he put the pen down and dashed out the door, then he squinted to make out the barely-legible scribbles that generously called themselves words.

“Happiness Annual Card

With this card, you can watch my talent show 100 times for free.”

It was signed with a ridiculously cheeky smiley face, with an additional note drawn beside it: “Heihei, I have no money!”

Gu Lizhou held his forehead, laughing so hard his shoulders shook.

Chapter 85 – Ignored and kissed

Chapter 85 (Extra 8)

Jiaheng didn’t say anything, turning his head as if he hadn’t noticed the person behind him. His breathing grew heavier, and even his steps became heavier.

He hadn’t expected Yu Wuxia’s cultivation to progress so quickly. It was supposed to take ten years to take human form, but now it had only taken three.

Yu Wuxia must have already taken human form days ago, but he had been hiding it, deliberately deceiving him.

The person behind him remained silent for a moment, then slowly followed the tiger into the cave.

The light inside the cave was dim, as if stained by ink. The tiger lay down on a stone platform, as if sulking, without saying a word.

Yu Wuxia, pale-faced, sat opposite the tiger, admitting his mistake.

“Master, I didn’t mean to deceive you. I can only return to human form for one moment each day, so I didn’t tell you.”

In fact, he was afraid that if he told his master he had already taken human form, his master would abandon him.

He didn’t know his master’s current attitude towards him, so he had to be extremely cautious.

Jiaheng finally raised his eyes to look at him, his eyelids drooping, his expression hidden by the dense tiger fur on his face. “You still retain your previous memories?”

“Yes…” Yu Wuxia didn’t want to admit it, but under Jiaheng’s gaze, he couldn’t help but tell the truth.

It seemed he was always like this, unable to hide anything when facing Jiaheng.

Even though the person in front of him was no longer the lofty Immortal but just a tiger, his reverence for him remained unchanged.

Jiaheng had thought that once the relic cultivated back into human form, it would forget the past and turn into a baby, so he could take good care of it and be honest with Yu Wuxia.

But unexpectedly, Yu Wuxia remembered everything.

So…he really didn’t know what to say or what could be said.

The tiger felt a bit reclusive.

The reclusive tiger then put on a cold and aloof demeanor, ignoring Yu Wuxia. After asking this question, he turned his head and lay on the cool stone, lightly dozing.

Yu Wuxia opened his mouth but was speechless. He didn’t know what his master’s reaction meant and was too scared to breathe heavily, afraid that his master would find a fault and drive him away.

A quarter of an hour later, Yu Wuxia’s body transformed back into a relic with a “bang” and fell to the ground.

Jiaheng opened his eyes, looked at the relic on the ground without any emotion, picked it up with his mouth, and placed it on the stone platform.

When he turned around, he didn’t notice that the originally gray-brown relic had inexplicably turned red.

Even though his master had become a tiger, his mouth was still soft, and his tongue was also soft, seeming very kissable.

Yu Wuxia was delighted, and the silver light surrounding him began to flicker with joy.

Jiaheng walked out of the cave. The night was the best time for a tiger to hunt, with its senses particularly sharp. He lay in wait near the stream, waiting for prey to come for a drink.

Moonlight shone on the stream, reflecting shimmering waves. Occasionally, a fish would leap out of the water, seemingly playing joyfully. Usually, birds and beasts would come to drink by the stream, but tonight, despite lying in wait for a long time, Jiaheng didn’t see any prey. Tonight was indeed unlucky.

He returned with an empty stomach, not realizing that his erratic breathing while hiding in the grass had scared off the nearby animals.

It seemed that ever since he saw Yu Wuxia, he couldn’t calm down, though he hadn’t noticed it himself.

Fortunately, on the way back, he found a wild chicken killed by a previous beast’s hunt. He picked up the uneaten flesh and bones, barely filling his stomach.

The tiger returned to the cave but didn’t go in. Instead, he lay at the entrance, with fallen leaves and weeds perfectly covering his body.

He closed his eyes and fell asleep in the tranquility.

He didn’t know how long he had slept when he was awakened by the sound of grinding medicine. Raising his head, he first saw the wildly growing weeds, with golden sunlight streaming through, slightly dazzling.

The tiger lowered his eyelids and looked towards the sound, seeing Yu Wuxia grinding medicine with a stone.

Earlier, Yu Wuxia had stopped the bleeding on the tiger’s paw but hadn’t dared to apply medicine, fearing the tiger would discover his identity. But now that the tiger knew, he took the opportunity to gather herbs and grind them into powder to apply to the tiger’s paw.

“Master, have you lost all your cultivation?”

The tiger didn’t refuse his actions of applying the medicine nor did he respond, looking away into the distance.

Yu Wuxia awkwardly lowered his head. Perhaps due to his higher cultivation, he could now maintain his human form for longer periods. After applying the medicine, he asked, “Master, who hurt you?”

Jiaheng still didn’t speak. At that moment, a familiar scent of blood wafted through the forest. Jiaheng narrowed his eyes, his agile body leaping forward like the wind.

Yu Wuxia quickly followed behind, reaching a dense forest area with his master.

They saw a tigress trapped in a hunter’s trap, her back pierced by a blade, lying in the mud unable to move.

A tiger was trying to claw at the tigress, but couldn’t reach her, and instead, lost his balance and fell into the trap, his paw and chest pierced by knives, letting out a howl of pain.

Jiaheng circled the trap, the tiger inside growling menacingly, thinking Jiaheng was there to take advantage.

Jiaheng observed the tigers’ injuries. They were both trapped by knives and couldn’t move. He looked around, trying to find something useful, but there were only dead branches and leaves.

Yu Wuxia sensed Jiaheng’s blood on the tiger and glanced at the unhealed wound on its chest, realizing that this tiger had injured Jiaheng.

And now, Jiaheng wanted to save them.

Without asking, Yu Wuxia found a stone and threw it into the trap. The tiger initially endured the pain, pulling itself from the knives, protecting the tigress behind him, and growling at Yu Wuxia, trying to intimidate him.

When Yu Wuxia realized that the stones he had thrown hadn’t harmed the tigers, the male tiger’s roaring gradually subsided. The female tiger, despite the pain, pulled herself off the knife’s tip. Fortunately, the knife hadn’t damaged her vital organs, only piercing the skin on her back.

Seeing this, the male tiger immediately began licking the female tiger’s wounds, and she reciprocated by licking his.

Yu Wuxia, having stacked the stones sufficiently, watched the tigers licking each other’s wounds and estimated that they could climb out of the trap. He stopped throwing stones.

He looked at Jiaheng with a sense of accomplishment, his eyes conveying a desire for praise.

However, as usual, Jiaheng didn’t say much. His tail flicked slightly, and without even making eye contact with Yu Wuxia, he turned and left.

Yu Wuxia glanced at the tigers still engrossed in their mutual affection and then followed Jiaheng.

He felt a bit envious of the tigers, able to groom each other and express their affection, while he couldn’t even get his master to talk to him.

Could it really be as Si Lan said, that his master disliked him because of his bad temperament and inability to speak well?

Just as Yu Wuxia was deep in thought, his body suddenly underwent a change. He didn’t even have time to call out to his master before transforming into a relic and falling to the ground.

The last thing he saw was the ground covered in fallen leaves and Jiaheng’s receding figure.

Yu Wuxia felt a pang of sadness. He couldn’t move or speak now. The air around him was filled with the scent of earth, and with the wind blowing leaves everywhere, he feared that if he was covered by leaves, his master might not find him for a while.

As he was lamenting his situation, he suddenly sensed a shadow overhead, nearly blocking out the sky. In the next moment, something soft and warm enveloped him, picking him up in its mouth.

The breath from the other’s mouth was hot and engulfed his entire being.

The relic inexplicably began to glow red.

Master… Master had realized he had turned into a relic so quickly.

So, his master did care about him, just pretended not to.

Realizing this, the “red stains” on the relic floated gently, as if excited blood was coursing through them.

The tiger, naturally unaware of the relic’s changes, brought it back and then lay down on the stone platform to rest.

The relic focused intently on the tiger, and if his gaze could kill, the tiger would have long been dismantled and devoured.

His master, now in the form of a tiger, seemed kind-hearted but had lost his Buddhist compassion and no longer pursued cultivation, appearing content to remain an ordinary tiger.

Yu Wuxia hazily thought that if he wanted to be with his master in the future, he would have to take the form of a tiger.

He couldn’t help but recall the scene of the two tigers in the trap showing affection, causing the relic to glow even redder.

If his master would let him help groom him, he’d be willing to remain a tiger for a lifetime.

But now, his master wouldn’t even talk to him…

His master was so reserved, never saying much. How could he always guess what his master was thinking?

Perhaps he should follow the unreliable advice of that demon lord.

With this thought, Yu Wuxia felt much happier, and the relic seemed to move, almost like it was about to spin and leap.

Jiaheng, hearing the noise, glanced at the relic. After a moment of silence, he tucked his tail under himself, covering what needed to be covered.

Though he couldn’t hear the relic’s laughter, he could sense it was probably laughing mischievously.

“…” Yu Wuxia.

The next day, after Yu Wuxia transformed back into human form, he didn’t find Jiaheng in the cave, so he hurried out to search for him.

Lacking much cultivation, he could only rely on faint traces of aura to track Jiaheng, finding him slowly drinking water by a stream.

Yu Wuxia approached, but Jiaheng didn’t react, continuing to drink water.

Yu Wuxia thought to himself that his master had probably become so used to being an Immortal that he had lost all vigilance. Even when he got close, there was no reaction.

The tiger, after drinking, instinctively shook its fur and turned to see Yu Wuxia washing his face in the stream.

The tiger seemed to pause for a moment but still said nothing. As it turned to leave, Yu Wuxia’s voice rang out behind him.

“Master, I have many things I want to tell you.”

The tiger’s steps faltered slightly before continuing.

Undeterred, Yu Wuxia followed, saying, “Master, you said before that you did four things wrong regarding me. But I never thought you did anything wrong, nor did I ever blame you.”

The tiger, guessing what Yu Wuxia was about to say but not wanting to hear it, sped up, moving gracefully through the forest.

Once the veil was lifted, he knew what awaited them. He wasn’t resistant but wanted to retreat.

Or rather, he wanted to maintain the current situation.

Isn’t this just fine as it is?

Why do people always need to dig deeper?

Yu Wuxia, undeterred, chased after him, shamelessly saying, “Master, after turning into a relic, I’ve reflected on many things. I was too extreme back then, trying to change the six realms for my own sake.”

“I always thought you didn’t value me, that you hated me. But after reflecting, I understood your dilemma. For someone who tried to destroy your cultivation but claimed to love you, not killing him was already lenient.”

“But back then, I was foolish and couldn’t understand your good intentions. I forced you to be with me. If I had been smarter and understood your heart, we wouldn’t have ended up like this.”

The running tiger, hearing Yu Wuxia’s nonsense, couldn’t help but growl and glare back at him.

What nonsense was he spouting?

Why did it sound like they had long been secretly in love?

“Master, don’t ignore me. It makes me very sad.”

Jiaheng hadn’t expected Yu Wuxia to suddenly “act spoiled,” and almost stumbled.

This person was getting crazier.

The tiger ran out of the forest and into the fields, with Yu Wuxia chasing close behind.

He shouted, “If you won’t respond to me, I’ll kiss you every time you ignore me until you speak.”

“…”

Hearing this, the tiger slipped and fell into a ditch.

In the next instant, Yu Wuxia’s figure pounced, pinning the tiger into the dirt.

Chapter 16 – "Old Gu, The Kiid From 301 Is Looking For You.”

Zhong Weishi looked at the new T-shirt in his hand, somewhat in disbelief. Turning his head in astonishment, he asked, “This, this, you bought this for me ah?”

Gu Lizhou still had a cigarette hanging from his lips, his expression looking relaxed. “Otherwise?”

Zhong Weishi stared at the small flicker of the cigarette tip, still in a daze, and then heard him say, “Hurry up and change. That shirt you’re wearing is an eyesore.”

Zhong Weishi glanced back and tugged at his shirt. If Gu Lizhou hadn’t reminded him, he would’ve forgotten that it was torn.

A’Wei had just noticed the two slits in Zhong Weishi’s shirt. “Did it get ripped when you got caught on the fence ah?”

“En.” Zhong Weishi subconsciously glanced at the price tag and shuddered in shock.

What the heck ah! A dragon robe!

“It’s too expensive,” Zhong Weishi felt certain he couldn’t afford it, looking up and asking, “Can I still get a refund for this?”

Qiangzi and his gang also swarmed over to check the price tag, shouting a string of expletives: “898!”

“What?” Da Fei leaned over in shock.

Gu Lizhou lowered one arm, flicking the ash off his cigarette, and casually said, “It was bought on sale. Consider it a gift, a welcome present from your new neighbor.”

Qiangzi, grinning cheekily, sidled up. “Ge, look, my shirt’s torn too!”

A bunch of people yelled as they pulled on their clothes, “Ours is torn too!”

Gu Lizhou: “…”

Zhong Weishi elbowed Qiangzi and the others back, “Have some face?”

“Beep beep—” A car horn honked twice from across the street, and someone stuck their head out.

“Old Gu.”

It was Cao Zhiheng.

Gu Lizhou stubbed out the half-burnt cigarette, tilting his head slightly. “I’m heading out.”

Zhong Weishi, still in a daze, muttered an “oh,” but by the time he remembered to say thank you, the other had already gotten into his car and disappeared from sight.

The T-shirt was immediately snatched by A’Wei, passed around like a game of hot potato among the group.

It had a simple design: pure white, with a pair of ash-gray wings extending from the collar to both shoulders.

It was bold and had a lot of personality.

It was completely different from the style of clothes Gu Lizhou usually wore, and it seemed like he had picked this one especially for Zhong Weishi.

“Not gonna lie ah, expensive clothes really do have different materials ah. Feels super nice to the touch.”

“That’s just how it felt ah…”

“Didn’t he say he bought it on sale? It shouldn’t be that expensive.”

Zhong Weishi calculated. Even if the fvcking boss ran away and slashed the prices to rock-bottom, a discount would still mean 90 yuan for one shirt.

90 yuan. That was enough for him to buy a dozen shirts at the small goods market!

And this clearly wasn’t some street stall item. No way this came from a place where the boss bailed and sold stuff with a very large discounted price.

“Hey! Stop touching it with those greasy hands, you’re getting it all over the shirt.” Zhong Weishi snatched the T-shirt back from Qiangzi.

“I wiped my hands before touching it.” Qiangzi clicked his tongue repeatedly. “Look at how precious you love it so dearly. It’s just a piece of rag! Brothers, when I get rich, the first thing I’ll do is buy you two of these 898 ones—one to wear, the other to use as a rag!”

Zhong Weishi laughed. “Retard.”

The car sped along the bustling streets, the window on the passenger side rolled down. Gu Lizhou’s hair was blowing wildly in the wind. Though the sky had darkened, the cityscape outside was still bright and lively.

The words from Old Li at the police station had unintentionally hit a sore spot for him.

Before he knew it, he was already 32 ah.

How many 32 years could one have in life?

It was now June, exactly five years since he had announced his retirement from writing.

Gu Lizhou had loved reading since he was a child, and during his first year of university, he became obsessed with writing.

His highest record was writing non-stop for an entire week without sleep. He could enter the fantasy world he had built at anytime and anywhere, controlling the fates and emotions of his characters.

He was hot-blooded, exhilarated, and sleepless.

At 20, an age where one didn’t know heat from cold, full of youthful vigor, he was like a cactus growing in the desert—thriving wildly even without the nourishment of rain.

He was obsessed with creating, to the point where even his dreams were immersed in his fiction world.

While most students were still daydreaming about when they’d have their first sweet sweet romance, he had already signed with Xinghe Century and become an online writer.

He poured all his energy into his work, constantly acquiring new knowledge in the library, seeking thrills in distant travels, and amassing wave after wave of readers.

He felt like there was never enough time. Even sleeping four or five hours a day gave him a guilty feeling, as if he were wasting time.

He was in a rush to grow, to graduate, to gain more free time.

At 26, he reached his peak.

His fifth full-length novel achieved over a hundred million clicks and more than a million favorites on the site, making him the top writing god at Xinghe Century.

What did these figures mean?

It meant that the combined numbers of those ranked second through tenth didn’t even come close to matching his.

But human energy is ultimately limited, like a burning candle—the brighter the flame, the faster it burns. By the time he realized his body had some problems, it was already too late.

It started with minor ailments such as gastritis, enteritis, cervical spondylitis, mouth sores, eye pain. His weight plummeted.

“You can’t sit for long periods.”

“You can’t be on the computer all the time.”

“Your eyes need rest.”

He knew all of the doctor’s advice, but he couldn’t stop.

Countless people were watching him, waiting for him, and behind him, countless authors were chasing after him.

Who wouldn’t want to stay at the top for just a little longer?

It was like those people constantly challenging and setting the Guinness World Records.

Top-tier creative talents are often madmen.

He continued to relentlessly pour his time and energy into the world of his novels.

If there wasn’t enough time, he cut off his social life. If he didn’t have the energy, he made up for it with more sleep.

But the continuous onset of symptoms began to torment his will.

Herniated discs, shoulder and neck pain, migraines, vitreous floaters—each new condition felt like a warning from above.

One day, he woke up to a persistent buzzing sound in his ears.

The doctor said, “This is noise-induced tinnitus. Have you been suffering from insomnia? Staying up late? Young people shouldn’t always stay up late.”

“You’re too thin. Eat more, exercise more, building up your body is key.”

“If you continue like this, your body will collapse.”

How painful is noise-induced tinnitus?

It feels like cicadas perched by your ear, buzzing incessantly for 24 hours without a break, driving a person to irritability and making it impossible to focus.

And focus is exactly what creativity demands.

It’s not like working on an assembly line, where you can just clock in and out.

It requires constant accumulation, new experiences for stimulation, and bursts of inspiration.

The sudden onset of tinnitus was like a final warning from above—you must rest.

His worsening condition forced him to slow down.

“It’s been almost a month since the break ah. This isn’t fun to follow anymore.”

“Can you at least respect the readers waiting for updates ah? How many times has he taken breaks in these three months?”

“Fame really changes people ah.”

“I think that’s all there is to the writing. Seems like he’s out of ideas.”

People fear fame, just as pigs fear getting fat;1Pigs fear getting fat for slaughter. The meaning for the two phrases is that fame has its price. and it’s the same in every industry.

At that time, Gu Lizhou adjusted his mindset quickly, accepted the criticisms with a smile, and apologized to his readers. Once his tinnitus was treated, he didn’t go on hiatus again.

Until the emergence of that sensational incident that shocked the whole internet happened.

#Famous Author Wanlizhou Molested Female Fans#

#Wanlizhou Hotel Photos#

#Wanlizhou’s Real Name#

#Wanlizhou’s Horrible Character#

#Wanlizhou Plagiarized Enneagram#

#Wanlizhou and Nine-Star Were Schoolmates#

This was a premeditated power struggle.

The “evidence” from the other party was solid, catching him completely off guard.

It was at that moment that Gu Lizhou truly experienced the cruelty of human heart and the coldness of human nature—far more terrifying than anything in the world of his novels.

Fame is like water in the ocean.

Water can carry a boat, but it can also capsize one.

Overnight, he became notorious.

Though his team swiftly responded with public relations, refuting all plagiarism claims, hiring the most renowned legal team to defend him in court, and even getting the female fan to release a video clarifying the situation, they couldn’t stop the spread of rumors.

“After molesting a female fan, Wanlizhou threatened her to delete her post.” “Female fan develops severe depression from harassment.” “Wanlizhou only became famous through hype.” Eye-catching headlines like these appeared one after another.

Just like how people immediately think of Sun Wukong when hearing the name Liuxiaolingtong, many online users now associate the name “Wanlizhou” with the molestation of female fans and plagiarism of works.

Through the screen, it was impossible to distinguish between truth and lies, but curiosity is an innate human trait.

The fans on both sides tore each other apart.

Nine-Star’s work shot up from seventh to second place in terms of clicks.

A person who is obsessed with creating can endure the loneliness of long nights, withstand physical problems, and tolerate harsh reader critiques.

But there would still come a moment when it all became overwhelmingly crushing.

It felt like he had just gone through a sudden tsunami, draining all his passion and energy. As he quietly gazed at the devastated world around him, he suddenly felt… tired, and weary, like he didn’t want to continue anymore.

On June 10th, a 4.8 million-word fantasy novel titled “Wraiths” was marked complete, and the author posted a handwritten long-term leave notice on Weibo.

Eight years of time summarized in 800 words, laid down on a single sheet of paper.

The last sentence read: “Thank you for your trust, thank you for your companionship. Until we meet again, if fate allows.”

The handwriting was bold, graceful, and forceful.

What seemed like a few light words were like an invisible gate that completely severed the past from the present.

A large group of fans cried out.

The story of Wanlizhou was thus sealed away in the memory chest of a generation.

That once proud peak of his career had become the most unspeakable chapter of his past in the end.

If someone were to ask him, after his health improved, would he ever write again?

His answer would be no.

A legend is still a legend; better to leave it unbroken.

But no matter how many years pass, he will always miss the things he once loved and was so passionate about.

If asked, does he have any regrets?

The answer would differ at different stages.

His eyes warmed as the craving for a cigarette crept up again.

Gu Lizhou reached into his pants pocket for his cigarettes.

Cao Zhiheng glanced at him. “Don’t smoke in my car ah. My girlfriend will smell it and accuse me again.”

Gu Lizhou sighed and reluctantly put it back in his pocket.

“Got something on your mind?” Cao Zhiheng easily saw through him.

Gu Lizhou leaned his elbow on the edge of the window, resting his chin on his hand, muttering to himself, “Nothing much, just feels like something’s missing in life.”

“Missing a partner!” Cao Zhiheng blurted out.

Gu Lizhou acted as if he hadn’t heard.

Cao Zhiheng continued, “I’m serious, don’t doubt me. Girlfriends are such wonderful creatures. If not that, maybe get a proper job—it’s really easy to get depressed when you overthink too much…”

Once Cao Zhiheng started talking, there was no stopping him, but Gu Lizhou’s thoughts drifted far away, carried by the wind.

“My main job is acting. On the side… I’m a model, a waiter, a campus errand runner, a food critic, and an ambassador for promoting agricultural products…”

“Qiangzi said we should celebrate…”

“After a trip to the police station, we came out safe and sound ah! Isn’t that something worth celebrating?”

He looks so happy and fulfilled.

He and the people around him all seemed so happy.

Gu Lizhou was a little envious.

After the late-night gathering ended, Qiangzi drove Zhong Weishi back to the neighbourhood.

Qiangzi had drunk quite a bit, and Zhong Weishi felt concerned, “Drive carefully on the road ah. Send me a message when you get home.”

“What’s the point of sending a message if you haven’t topped up your phone?” Huangfu Qiang laughed.

Zhong Weishi chuckled, “I’ll top it up as soon as I get back.”

Now that the lights in the hallway were fixed, Zhong Weishi was still quite unaccustomed to it. At night, he could clearly see the rows of small ads… and Er’Gou’s picture.

He walked over, tore down the missing person flyer, and crumpled it into a ball. When he was about to toss it away, he remembered the bundle of sticks, so he stuffed the paper ball into his pocket instead.

People are really different from each other.

Even though he occasionally saw big stars on set, there was rarely an opportunity to exchange even a greeting, so he didn’t feel much impact from it.

But after Gu Lizhou appeared in this place, Zhong Weishi truly felt the gap between the rich and the poor; not just in money.

Cultural standards, moral character, family upbringing… these things, ingrained deep into one’s bones, shape a complete soul and at the same time form a person’s unique temperament.

If he had a family, would he be a different Zhong Weishi?

Would it be better than now?

“Knock knock knock—”

Cao Zhiheng opened the door and was immediately hit by the smell of alcohol. The boy’s cheeks were flushed, so he should have drunk a lot.

“What’s wrong?” He asked.

Zhong Weishi licked his lips and glanced inside, “Uh, is Gu Lizhou here?”

Cao Zhiheng: “He’s taking a bath.”

Zhong Wei Shi let out an “Oh”. He was just about to say he’d come back later, but Cao Zhiheng had already turned and yelled towards the bathroom, “Old Gu, the kid from 301 is looking for you.”

“Looking for me for what?”

The soundproofing of the bathroom wasn’t good, and Gu Lizhou’s voice was mixed with the sound of a stream of water: “Tell him to wait, I’m in the middle of a shower.”

“He asked you to wait,” Cao Zhiheng said.

Zhong Weishi grinned, showing his teeth, “I heard him.”

Chapter 36 – I want to bite the dog man back!

Chapter 36 – I want to bite the dog man back!

Zhao Qi tensed all over when Rong Tang embraced him like this, feeling waves of heat rising to his head.

This wasn’t their first intimate contact. Zhao Qi had been forcibly restrained by Rong Tang several times before, almost having his dragon egg squeezed to bursting. But until last night, no matter how close they were, he had never felt like this before. Normally, they were both men, and he was used to touching and joking around with his buddies, nothing serious.

However, everything had changed because of last night. He was no longer the carefree, happy straight guy he used to be; now, he was someone who had experienced both pain and pleasure with another man… a poor soul indeed. Just the thought that Rong Tang might be the one who had given him such conflicting feelings made him unable to meet those godly handsome looks head-on.

In his heart, Zhao Qi lamented: Ah, could it be that he no longer deserved the title of “straight guy”?

Before Zhao Qi could respond, Rong Tang tightened his grip a bit. “Zhao Qi?”

Zhao Qi struggled to maintain composure. “I’m afraid not.”

Rong Tang raised an eyebrow. “?”

“I am a sovereign of a nation. I meet many ministers every day. How could I possibly focus on just one person like you?” Zhao Qi said, “Unless we were stranded on a deserted island with no one else.”

Rong Tang smiled faintly. “That sounds nice.”

Zhao Qi couldn’t understand what was good about it. He couldn’t bear this ambiguous, uncertain atmosphere. Summoning courage, he turned around to meet Rong Tang’s calm gaze. “Rong Tang.”

“Hmm?”

Carefully choosing his words, Zhao Qi asked, “Last night, I drank too much. I don’t remember much. I didn’t do anything to you, did I?”

Rong Tang paused. “…”

Perhaps it was Zhao Qi’s imagination, but he felt that Rong Tang seemed a bit… shy?

Rong Tang cleared his throat lightly. “You called my name, and then I…” His gaze fell on Zhao Qi’s lips. “I didn’t expect you to bite so hard. I’m sorry.”

Instinctively, Zhao Qi covered his mouth. Indeed, he was right; his lips were bitten by Rong Tang. This was disastrous; his ideal image of Rong Tang as a celestial being was crumbling—how could a celestial man bite someone!

Rong Tang seemed amused by Zhao Qi’s reaction, a hint of a smile in his eyes. “It’s my lack of experience. It won’t happen again.”

Weakly leaning on the table, Zhao Qi sighed, “Yes, there won’t be a next time.” He would never repeat the mistake of last night. “After biting me, did you… do anything else to me?”

Rong Tang frowned slightly. “What do you mean?”

The words “did you top me” stuck in Zhao Qi’s throat. His face flushed; he couldn’t bring himself to say it.

Zhao Qi gave up and changed the subject. “Someone saw you meeting with the Prince Huai in the Imperial Garden.”

Rong Tang’s expression changed slightly.

“What did you both talk about?” Without waiting for Rong Tang’s answer, Zhao Qi continued, “Actually, I already know. Prince Huai has always wanted to rescue you from the palace. Yesterday, he probably brought it up again.”

Rong Tang did not deny it. “The palace banquet was crowded and noisy. He asked me to disguise myself as his attendant and seize the opportunity to leave the palace.”

“You didn’t agree because you knew I would let you leave the palace?” Zhao Qi asked.

“That’s one reason.”

“Are there other reasons?”

“Yeah.”

“What?”

Rong Tang looked at him. “You.”

Zhao Qi paused. “Oh…”

The two stared at each other for a long time. Zhao Qi tried to decipher something from the myriad emotions in Rong Tang’s eyes, but with his emotional intelligence, all he could see was Rong Tang staring at him like he was a fool, his expression bewildered and helpless.

”Your Majesty, let’s return to Yonghua Palace,” Rong Tang suggested, “that is where Your Majesty’s chambers are.”

”Hmm…” Zhao Qi almost agreed, “Let’s discuss it tomorrow. I’ll inform the Prime Minister tonight.”

Rong Tang’s tone was indifferent, “Your Majesty needs the Chancellor’s permission to decide where to sleep?”

”Exactly,” Zhao Qi complained, “You have no idea how tightly he controls me.”

After a moment of silence, Rong Tang compromised, “Alright. You can stay at Haiyan Hall tonight, but in the future, return to Yonghua Palace—I’ll wait for you.”

Zhao Qi thought Rong Tang believed both Haiyan Hall and Yonghua Palace were part of his harem. Tonight he would favor one person, and tomorrow he would need to favor another to maintain harmony in the harem.

After Rong Tang left, Zhao Qi turned over the paper with writing on it and, after careful consideration, circled the character ‘Rong’ of his name.

Before bed, Jiang Dehai helped Zhao Qi change clothes and noticed bite marks on his shoulder. “Your Majesty, does it hurt here?”

Zhao Qi shrugged. It did hurt a bit, but his whole body ached almost to numbness. The pain on his shoulder was nothing compared to somewhere else. “It’s alright.”

Jiang Dehai said worriedly, “These marks are deep. I saw blood.”

”Really?” Zhao Qi turned to look and couldn’t help but curse, “Damn, is that person even human?”

Jiang Dehai anxiously said, “Your Majesty, if these marks scar, what should we do?”

Gritting his teeth, Zhao Qi vowed, “Then I’ll bite back until he can’t function!”

Jiang Dehai sighed helplessly, “Let me apply some medicine for Your Majesty. There’s still plenty left of the ‘Jade Dew Snow Lotus Paste’ that Master Zhao Si brought last year.”

Zhao Qi snorted, “Zhao Qiao sells fake medicine. I dare not use his.”

Despite his words, Zhao Qi still let Jiang Dehai apply the medicine. He didn’t want any reminders of his life’s stains on his body.

As Jiang Dehai applied the medicine, he commented, “These bite marks have two circles. Did that person feel one bite wasn’t enough and had to add another?”

The cool ointment was comforting on his skin. Zhao Qi half-closed his eyes and muttered angrily, “Damn scoundrel.”

Jiang Dehai asked, “Your Majesty, I saw you circled the character ‘Rong’. Does this mean the ‘scoundrel’ is Young Master Rong?”

Zhao Qi shook his head, “I’m not completely sure yet. But…” He licked the corner of his split lip, wondering if Rong Tang had taken his first kiss.

Because of the ointment on his shoulder, Zhao Qi could only sleep on his stomach. The feeling of pressure on his chest was uncomfortable, making it feel like he couldn’t breathe even in his dreams.

Suffocating, hot, he tossed and turned in bed, his cheeks flushed, sweat pouring down like rain, his long hair sticking to his face, blocking his view.

A pair of cool hands touched his forehead. It was like a lost wanderer in the desert seeing an oasis, eagerly leaning towards the person and murmuring vaguely, “Help me take it off… so hot…”

Without hesitation, those hands skillfully removed his last piece of clothing. Yet he was still not satisfied, still hot. He knew only the man beside him could help.

The man’s fingers brushed his cheek, coming slowly to his slightly open mouth. His tone was cold, “If no one else touched you, how did this happen?”

He didn’t understand what the man was saying, instinctively taking those slender fingers into his mouth, kissing them to please.

The man’s breathing grew heavier, suddenly flipping him over from behind, covering him, gripping his shoulders, sternly asking, “And this? How did this happen?”

  Zhao Qi shook his head, “I don’t know, I don’t know…”

”If I hadn’t arrived in time, you…” The man didn’t finish his sentence, instead stripping himself, turning Zhao Qi’s face towards him, and biting his mouth roughly, covering the previous marks.

Wide-eyed, Zhao Qi stared blankly. Besides the fluttering gauze, he couldn’t see anything. The voice in his ears made his heart race even more, even the man was amazed at his response. “You like this so much, hmm?” He whispered by Zhao Qi’s ear, lightly laughing, “It’s so wet here.”

  …

Startled awake from his dream, Zhao Qi gasped for breath, realizing he was drenched in sweat. A voice sounded beside him, “Awake?”

Seeing the person sitting by the bed, Zhao Qi was momentarily stunned, unable to distinguish between dream and reality for a while before saying, “Brother?”

In the faint light, Xiao Shiqing’s face seemed clouded, “Hmm. Just got back, came to see you. Your face, very flushed.”

Zhao Qi used the back of his hand to feel the warmth on his cheeks, “A little.”

Xiao Shiqing frowned, “Are you feverish?”

Zhao Qi wiped his sweat, “I don’t think so. I just had a, uh, nightmare.”

”A nightmare?” Xiao Shiqing chuckled, “A nightmare that looks so amorous. Your Majesty truly is talented.”

Zhao Qi forced a dry laugh, “N-nothing like that. What time is it now?”

Xiao Shiqing poured a cup of tea and handed it to him, “Just past midnight.”

Taking a sip of the cool tea, Zhao Qi felt much better, “It’s so late already. Has Brother been busy?”

Xiao Shiqing replied, “Chen Li has identified the poison that afflicted the Western Xia Crown Prince.”

Zhao Qi hurriedly asked, “What poison?”

  ”Feng Return Powder.”

Zhao Qi was taken aback. He knew this poison; it was a secret drug of the Grand Jing Palace, typically used to execute imperial concubines, hence its name “Feng Return”.

”So, you’re saying the one who poisoned the Western Xia Crown Prince is someone from within the palace?”

Xiao Shiqing nodded slightly, “That’s a possibility. But if you were the culprit, would you use such a blatantly identifying poison?”

Understanding dawned on Zhao Qi, excitement rising, “This is a setup, an attempt to sow discord between us and Western Xia!”

Xiao Shiqing ruffled his hair, “You’ve thought this through. You’ve learned a lot recently.”

Zhao Qi smiled awkwardly, “Brother, should we inform Western Xia about this?”

  ”Yes.”

Zhao Qi was surprised for a moment, then quickly realized, “Anyway, if we don’t say it, the one who poisoned will find a way to let Western Xia know. It’s better if we tell them ourselves.”

  ”Mm.”

Zhao Qi looked worried, “But the people from Western Xia won’t think this through. Once they learn about Feng Return Powder, they’ll surely escalate the situation.”

Xiao Shiqing casually replied, “Let them make a fuss. You don’t need to worry about it. Taking care of your health is more important.”

Zhao Qi suddenly recalled the scenes from his dream earlier, cautiously probing, “Brother, why do I need to take care of my health? I’m not sick.”

Xiao Shiqing glanced down at him, “Didn’t you say your waist hurts?”

”Oh, right.” Zhao Qi felt embarrassed, “It’s my waist, haha, getting old, you know.”

He must have been overthinking. There’s no way Xiao Shiqing, the dignified Prime Minister, could be that scoundrel who would say embarrassing things like “flooding”…

After studying him for a moment, Xiao Shiqing suddenly said, “I haven’t given you your birthday gift yet.”

”Oh,” Zhao Qi grinned, “I thought you forgot.”

”I didn’t.” Xiao Shiqing handed him an exquisite sandalwood box, “Open it and see.”

Chapter 64

After dinner, Auntie Luo cleaned the table and washed the dishes while Zhan Xueqing held Grandma’s hand and talked to her on the first floor.

Before leaving, Zhan Weiguang said to Zhan Xueqing, “You sleep in Weiyang’s room. It has been cleaned up for you.”

Zhan Xueqing made an okay gesture to him.

Zhan Weiyang went back to his room to pack a few clothes before Zhan Xueqing came up and then went into Pei Qing’s room with him.

His pillow and quilt had been brought over. If Zhan Xueqing wanted to stay here for a vacation, he could sleep with Pei Qing openly for a vacation.

When Zhan Weiyang came in, Pei Qing was on the phone by the window, seemingly discussing work matters. So, he quietly put on his pyjamas and went to the bathroom to shower.

When he came out of the shower, Zhan Weiyang met Zhan Xueqing, who had just come up to the second floor in the corridor.

Zhan Xueqing looked a little tired. She finished her last exam yesterday and left school today, dragging her suitcase to the airport to take a plane. Until now, she has not had time to rest, and she really feels tired. But when she saw Zhan Weiyang, she still smiled and greeted him and asked him, “Have you finished your shower?”

       Zhan Weiyang nodded.

Zhan Xueqing pointed in the direction of Zhan Weiyang’s door and asked, “This is your room, am I right?”

       Zhan Weiyang nodded again, “Yes.”

Zhan Xueqing was about to walk towards the door but stopped after two steps. She asked Zhan Weiyang, “Which room does Pei Qing stay in?”

       Zhan Weiyang pointed.

Zhan Xueqing smiled and said, “Got it.” After that, she asked Zhan Weiyang, “Where do you sleep at night?”

Zhan Weiyang pointed to Pei Qing’s room again.

“Oh?” Zhan Xueqing’s tone was a little surprised, “You sleep with him?”

       Zhan Weiyang nodded.

Zhan Xueqing glanced at the closed door of Pei Qing’s room, “Is he willing to sleep with you?”

       Zhan Weiyang said, “Mmm.”

Zhan Xueqing smiled and said, “That’s unexpected. Well, go and rest.”

Zhan Weiyang said to her, “Good night, Qing jie.”

Zhan Xueqing raised one hand and shook it, “Good night, Yangyang.”

Zhan Weiyang entered Pei Qing’s room, closed the door behind him, and saw that Pei Qing had already finished his call. However, Pei Qing was still looking down, typing messages on his phone. Zhan Weiyang walked to the bed, took off his shoes, and crawled across the bed towards Pei Qing. He reached out and tugged on Pei Qing’s shirt.

Pei Qing stretched out one hand to hug him, and the other hand was still sending messages. He looked down at the mobile phone screen intently and asked, “Have you taken the medicine?”

Zhan Weiyang took medicine every morning and evening.

“Ah!” Zhan Weiyang said, “I forgot!”

Pei Qing put his fingers into Zhan Weiyang’s hair, rubbed it hard, and asked, “Where is your medicine?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “It’s still in my room.”

Pei Qing patted his back, “Go get it.”

Zhan Weiyang remembered that Zhan Xueqing was currently staying in his room and didn’t want to go. He grabbed Pei Qing’s arm and said, “Go get it for me.”

Unexpectedly, Pei Qing said directly, “Go get it yourself, go quickly, I’ll get you a cup of hot water.”

After that, Pei Qing reached out and lifted Zhan Weiyang from the bed and asked, “Where are your slippers?”

Zhan Weiyang quickly hugged Pei Qing’s neck and said, “On the opposite side.”

Pei Qing carried him over, gently put him down and let him put on his shoes, then took his hand and led him out of the room, then let go and said, “Go get the medicine.” Then Pei Qing walked towards the stairs by himself.

Zhan Weiyang walked to the door of his room, raised his hand and knocked on the door gently. He heard Zhan Xueqing’s voice from inside, “Who is it?”

       Zhan Weiyang said, “It’s me.”

       Zhan Xueqing said, “Come in.”

Zhan Weiyang opened the door and walked in. He saw Zhan Xueqing sitting by the bed, flipping through a book in her hand, which was Zhan Weiyang’s comic book.

He felt a little uncomfortable, walked in and called out, “Qing jie.”

Zhan Xueqing raised the book in her hand and shook it. She then said with a smile, “Are you still reading comics?”

Zhan Weiyang said, ‘Mmm’. He looked at his desk and the bookshelf above, and then looked at the closed drawer, trying to recall if there was anything in his drawer.

Zhan Xueqing stood up, put the book back on the bookcase, and said, “I didn’t go through your things, don’t worry.”

Zhan Weiyang didn’t say anything. He walked to the bedside table, squatted down, opened the drawer, and took out the medicine inside.

Zhan Xueqing walked up to him, bent down to look, and said curiously, “Are you sick?”

       Zhan Weiyang said, “Yes.”

Zhan Xueqing asked him, “Cold?” She didn’t see the name of the medicine clearly.

Zhan Weiyang stuffed all the medicine into his pyjama pocket, not wanting to answer the question, and just said, “I’ll go.”

       Zhan Xueqing nodded, “Go ahead.”

The room’s door had been open since Zhan Weiyang came in. When Zhan Weiyang walked to the door, Pei Qing came up from downstairs with a glass of water and passed through the corridor.

“Qing ge,” Zhan Weiyang called him.

Pei Qing said, “Go back and take the medicine.”

Zhan Weiyang walked out and followed Pei Qing to go back to the next room.

At this time, Zhan Xueqing also followed him out, stood at the door, poked her head out, and called out, “Pei Qing.”

Pei Qing stopped and looked back at her, Zhan Weiyang also stopped and looked at Zhan Xueqing with some surprise.

Zhan Xueqing said, “You’ve become a different person when you’re a guest in someone’s home.”

Pei Qing did not respond to her but just put his arm around Zhan Weiyang’s shoulders and said, “Let’s go back.”

Zhan Weiyang looked at Zhan Xueqing again and went back to the room with Pei Qing.

The water temperature was just right, not too cold or too hot. Zhan Weiyang took the medicine with the water. After swallowing it with difficulty, he counted how much medicine was left, then looked up and said to Pei Qing, “I have to see the doctor again next week.”

Pei Qing took the cup of water, put it aside, and asked him, “Are you scared?”

Zhan Weiyang thought about it and replied, “Not scared, the doctor can cure me.”

He hadn’t heard those voices from before for a long time, and he now truly believed that the doctor could cure him.

Pei Qing smiled and said, “That’s good.”

As he lay in bed, ready to sleep, Zhan Weiyang said, “Dad hasn’t come back today.”

“It’s the end of the year, and your father has a lot of social activities,” Pei Qing reached out to help him tuck the covers back on.

Actually, there was another thing that Pei Qing didn’t tell Zhan Weiyang. Now that almost half a year has passed, Pei Qing’s internship should be over. After the Chinese New Year, when the next semester starts, Pei Qing will go back to school first.

Zhan Weiyang didn’t know about these things yet, and he didn’t think about whether Pei Qing’s internship was about to end. He was just happy that he could live with Pei Qing during this period.

Pei Qing just reached out to turn off the light and lie down when they suddenly heard a knock on the door.

Zhan Weiyang asked curiously, “Who is it?”

Pei Qing got up, turned on the light, walked to the door, and opened the door.

Zhan Xueqing stood at the door and asked Pei Qing when she saw him, “How do I turn on the hot water?”

Pei Qing looked back at Zhan Weiyang and saw him lying on the bed wrapped in a quilt and looking over here. So he walked out, went into the bathroom, and pointed to Zhan Xueqing, “Here is the hot water.”

After that, he asked Zhan Xueqing, “Any other questions?”

       Zhan Xueqing said, “No more.”

Pei Qing nodded and walked towards the room.

Zhan Xueqing suddenly called him, “Pei Qing, don’t you have anything to say to me?”

Pei Qing didn’t even look back, just said “No” a little coldly and then closed the door.

Zhan Weiyang was lying on the bed and heard their conversation. He couldn’t help but look up and ask, “Did you quarrel with Qing jie?”

       Pei Qing said, “No.”

He came back to the bed and lay down, turned off the light, then hugged Zhan Weiyang in his arms, patted his back gently, and said, “Go to sleep.”

Zhan Weiyang put his face in his arms and closed his eyes.

The author has something to say:
Even if Zhan Xueqing likes Pei Qing, she’s not some malicious female antagonist. There’s no troublesome plot, so don’t worry…

Chapter 63

Zhan Weiguang sat in the back row and watched them. He suddenly felt that Zhan Weiyang’s reliance on Pei Qing was a bit too much, which made him feel uncomfortable. However, he couldn’t quite explain the specifics why.

So he called out, “Zhan Weiyang.” His tone wasn’t very nice, and his voice was a bit low.

Zhan Weiyang heard it but didn’t want to pay attention to him. He just lowered his head slightly and drank the milk tea in small sips with a straw. He still remembered that Pei Qing told him to drink it slowly.

Zhan Weiguang took out a packaged straw from the bag under his feet and reached out to knock Zhan Weiyang’s head.

Zhan Weiyang turned his head and glared at him, still not talking to him, and turned his head back.

When Pei Qing drove the car to the airport, it was almost half an hour later than the arrival time of the plane. In fact, they were not too late. If Zhan Xueqing had luggage to check in, she might not have come out yet.

They parked the car in the parking lot and walked into the terminal. When Pei Qing was still looking at the display screen to find the exit for Zhan Xueqing’s flight number, Zhan Weiyang had already seen Zhan Xueqing. He pulled Pei Qing’s sleeve and said, “Qing jie.”

Pei Qing looked up and saw Zhan Xueqing sitting on her suitcase in the middle of the arrival hall, staring out the floor-to-ceiling glass window.

Zhan Xueqing was very beautiful, with the soft and traditional appearance of an oriental woman, but she had a neat short haircut, wearing a long black down jacket and jeans, and a pair of white sneakers on her feet.

“Zhan Xueqing,” it was Zhan Weiguang who opened his mouth to call out to her.

Zhan Xueqing turned around, her gaze first swept across Zhan Weiyang and Zhan Weiguang’s faces and finally fell on Pei Qing.

Zhan Weiguang walked towards her and asked her, “When did you arrive?”

Zhan Xueqing stood up from the suitcase, pushed the suitcase towards them, and said, “Arrived a while ago.”

“Qing jie,” Zhan Weiyang greeted. Zhan Xueqing walked up to them, smiled at Zhan Weiyang, stood on tiptoe to touch Zhan Weiyang’s head, and said, “Has Yangyang grown taller?”

Zhan Weiyang also smiled and nodded, “Mmm.”

At this time, Pei Qing said, “Let’s go home first.”

Zhan Xueqing looked at Pei Qing and asked him, “Are you having fun here?”

       Pei Qing said, “Pretty good.”

Zhan Weiguang reached out to take Zhan Xueqing’s suitcase, turned around, and walked outside, saying, “I guess there will be a traffic jam later. Let’s go.”

       The others followed.

Arriving at the parking lot, Zhan Weiguang put Zhan Xueqing’s suitcase in the trunk, and then Pei Qing drove again. Zhan Weiyang sat in the passenger seat, and Zhan Xueqing sat with Zhan Weiguang in the back.

Zhan Weiguang handed the milk tea he bought to Zhan Xueqing and said, “I bought it for you.”

Zhan Xueqing took it and said, “Did you come so late just to buy milk tea?”

Zhan Weiyang hadn’t finished his milk tea yet and was about to continue drinking it, but when he heard Zhan Xueqing’s words, he paused and looked back.

Zhan Weiguang said, “No, it’s because of a traffic jam.”

Zhan Xueqing put the straw into the cup, took a sip of the milk tea that had not yet completely cooled down, and said, “Who knows if it’s true or not?”

Zhan Weiguang said, “If you don’t want to drink it, just return it. We came all this way to pick you up and even bought you milk tea, and you have so many complaints.”

Zhan Xueqing looked at him and said, “It’s been so long since we’ve seen each other, and you haven’t treated me any better.” After that, she said to the front row, “Isn’t that right, Pei Qing?”

Pei Qing started the car and slowly drove out of the car park in a line, saying in a flat tone, “Traffic jam.”

Zhan Xueqing and Zhan Weiguang were born in the same year. Strictly speaking, Zhan Weiguang was a few months older, but they usually called each other by their names and didn’t have the feeling of being siblings.

Zhan Xueqing called Pei Qing’s name directly, which made Zhan Weiguang feel a little strange. He recalled and realised that he couldn’t remember how he addressed Pei Qing the last time Zhan Xueqing and Pei Qing appeared together.

There was still a traffic jam on the way back.

Zhan Weiguang and Zhan Xueqing were in the back row, each looking down at their phones.

Pei Qing turned on the radio, his eyes sweeping across Zhan Weiyang’s face. Seeing that he was focusing on the sound of the radio, he said, “Tune the channel yourself.”

Zhan Weiyang reached out to tune the radio channel, and a channel was playing pop songs, so he changed to another channel and heard Guo Degang1Chinese comedian and actor‘s crosstalk2Crosstalk is a special kind of dialogue and a special kind of performance.

At this point, Zhan Xueqing suddenly looked up and said, “Let’s listen to the song, that station just now.”

Zhan Weiyang did not respond. He wanted to listen to Guo Degang more; his finger was on the FM button, and he looked at Pei Qing.

Pei Qing said, “Listen to whatever you want to listen to.”

Zhan Weiyang slowly released his finger, leaving the channel on Guo Degang.

Zhan Xueqing in the back did not say a word.

After a while, Zhan Weiyang changed the channel back with some torment in his heart, and heard the slow singing coming from inside. He looked up at the rearview mirror and found that he could not see Zhan Xueqing’s expression from this angle, so he looked at Pei Qing again.

Pei Qing didn’t say anything and just smiled.

Although Zhan Weiyang couldn’t hear Guo Degang, at least he didn’t have to worry that Zhan Xueqing would be unhappy, so he sat back at ease. He leaned his head against the car window, closed his eyes and began to doze off.

When they got home, it was past dinner time and it was all dark.

There was a heater in the car, and Zhan Weiyang felt cold the moment he got out. Even though he was wearing a down jacket, the cold wind was blowing on his face and into his neck.

Zhan Weiguang lifted the suitcase down from the back, but Zhan Xueqing had already entered the house. She threw herself into her grandmother’s arms and shouted coquettishly, “Grandma!”

Since her parents divorced, she changed her name and followed her male cousins to call her grandmother3this is supposed to be nainai(grandma from father’s side), and no longer called her grandma4and this is waipo(grandma from mother’s side).

Pei Qing went to park the car. When he came back, he saw Zhan Weiyang still standing outside, and asked him, “Why don’t you go in?”

Zhan Weiyang said, “I’m waiting for you.”

Pei Qing raised his hand and put his arm around his shoulders, saying, “Let’s go in and have dinner.”

Dinner was already prepared, because they knew these people were going to the airport to pick someone up. So those at home were waiting for them to come back and have dinner together.

Everyone sat down around the dining room table, and Auntie Luo brought out the hot dishes from the kitchen one by one.

Zhan Xueqing sat next to her Grandma and leaned on her. She then said, “Wow, so generous today?”

Zhan Weiguang said, “It’s made especially for you.”

       Zhan Xueqing smiled sweetly.

Grandma turned her head to look at her and asked, “Why did you cut your hair so short? It’s too short.”

Zhan Xueqing raised her hand and touched her hair, saying, “Is it short? It’s okay.” After that, she suddenly looked at Pei Qing and asked, “Do you think it’s short?”

Pei Qing sat next to Zhan Weiyang. Seeing Zhan Weiyang trying to pick up the fish on the table, he reached out to help him pick up a large piece and put it in his bowl. At this time, he heard Zhan Xueqing talking to him, looked up and said, “As long as you like it.”

Zhan Xueqing originally had a smile on her face, but it suddenly disappeared. Then she pouted, let out a laugh, and reached for food from the plate in front of Pei Qing with her chopsticks.

They sat on both sides of the long table, facing each other diagonally, and the distance was a little far.

Pei Qing saw that she had just reached it, so he reached out and lifted the plate to move closer to her, letting her pick it up and then put it back calmly.

Zhan Xueqing glanced at him, lowered her head and ate the dish silently.

Chapter 48 – Whom Do You Want to Kill?

Chapter 48: Whom Do You Want to Kill?

Long Ling stared at Su Muluo silently.

Su Muluo met his gaze and turned his face away.

Long Ling: “?”

He suddenly grasped Su Muluo’s hand and said, “I’m not happy!”

Why was he being called ugly?

Where was he ugly!

Thinking of this, he hugged Su Muluo tightly, determined to get an explanation from his Phoenix.

Su Muluo laughed as he was being swung around. “Alright, alright, you’re not ugly at all.”

Long Ling stopped swinging him and asked, “Really?”

Su Muluo nodded. “Really, you’re the most handsome.”

Long Ling hmphed and rested his chin on Su Muluo’s shoulder. “So, I was picked up by the Phoenix even before I hatched?”

Su Muluo replied, “You were picked up by Frost Li and then given to me.”

Long Ling nodded, “Oh,” and said, “Then I should thank him for letting me stick to the Phoenix even before hatching.”

Su Muluo’s eyes dimmed upon hearing this, his voice softened. “We probably won’t see him again.”

The Phoenix clan had long since fallen, and what they encountered earlier was likely just a remnant soul left by Frost Li thousands of years ago.

Despite the many years that had passed, Frost Li’s remnant soul remained, reacting to the presence of his people, guiding them to the Abyssal Ravine.

If he was here, were the other members of the Phoenix clan here too?

Su Muluo looked around, hoping to find remnants of other clan members, but all he saw was a desolate valley.

Long Ling noticed the subdued expression of his Phoenix and spoke gently, “Phoenix, don’t be sad. Since we’ve come here, we should be able to find more about them.”

Su Muluo nodded silently. Then he remembered something and asked, “Was it Frost Li who brought you here after I fainted?”

Long Ling replied, “No, I still haven’t seen him, but I felt we were approaching the Abyssal Ravine, so I brought the Phoenix down here.”

“He might have already left…” Su Muluo murmured, paused, and said, “Let’s go, let’s explore around.”

By now, the valley was faintly lit by dawn, but the light only lingered above the narrow sky at the top of the valley, never reaching the depths below.

With each step Su Muluo took, his heart sank further. In his dreams, the Phoenix territory was still lush with green hills and blooming flowers. But upon waking, all he saw was dry, cracked earth under a darkened sky, like a huge net pressing down on this lifeless valley, where not even a breeze could penetrate.

The Phoenix clan had fallen thousands of years ago, and even intact souls couldn’t last that long. Thus, he knew deeply that what they had just encountered was not the real Frost Li, but merely a remnant soul, a fleeting presence.

But he still held onto a glimmer of hope, thinking perhaps he could encounter other clan members or discover remnants of their former habitation. Yet, the desolate and lifeless valley was like a brutal hammer smashing his illusions, telling him that such hopes were futile.

Even if hope lingered in his heart, reality was immutable. His people had long departed from him, their very existence erased over the passage of time.

“Phoenix?” Long Ling sensed his Phoenix’s unease and gently held his hand. “If you’re not feeling well, we can rest before continuing.”

Su Muluo shook his head lightly and whispered, “I’m fine.”

Long Ling frowned. “Are you sure?”

Su Muluo remained silent.

In truth, when he was living alone in the mountains with a dragon egg yet to hatch, he never imagined he had a past closely tied to the Phoenix clan. He simply thought he was the last egg left behind before their downfall, separated by thousands of years from his kin. Even if he felt nostalgia, it was tinged with unfamiliarity.

But now, knowing he existed in that ancient time, lived with his clan, and possibly witnessed their departure before him—suddenly, an indescribable sadness surged within him, overwhelming him until he struggled to breathe.

“Phoenix,” Long Ling pressed his forehead against Su Muluo’s, embracing him tenderly. “If it hurts, just let it out. I’ll be here with you.”

“…,” Su Muluo slowly gripped the hem of Long Ling’s clothes, head bowed, and murmured softly, “I’m just wondering why I’m the only one who stayed.”

“…Why could I save myself, but not my people?” As he voiced this question, his heart was filled with confusion and sorrow, emotions that tortured him like insects.

What had his feelings been as he watched his people leave, one by one? Had he made efforts to save them, only to find himself powerless in the end?

Or had he simply stood by, watching them depart without doing anything?

In that moment, Su Muluo’s mind raced through many thoughts. He even felt a sense of helpless despair, eventually clinging tightly to Long Ling, closing his eyes, burying his face into his chest.

“If only I could have done more,” his voice, though calm, carried a hint of choked-up sorrow. “If only I could have saved them… even just one.”

Long Ling’s clothes were slightly damp, his brows furrowed as he looked at Su Muluo with distress. He raised his hand and gently stroked his own phoenix-like soft hair.

He didn’t speak, because he knew that what the phoenix needed now wasn’t consolation, but an embrace, a support, a place where his phoenix could release all emotions.

The valley quieted down, no wind, only faint sobbing. After some time passed, Su Muluo took a gentle breath, still tears on his face, but finally calming down.

“Pheonix,” Long Ling spoke at this moment, wiping the tears from Su Muluo’s eyes, softly comforting, “The demise of the Dragon and Phoenix clans may have been a destined fate, beyond anyone’s control. It’s not your fault.”

“And your survival might be what your people hoped for, perhaps even their choice to let you live… After all, as long as you’re here, the Phoenix clan is not truly extinguished. You will return here and remember them.”

Su Muluo’s eyes still glistened with tears, silently staring at Long Ling.

Long Ling smiled softly, kissed Su Muluo’s face again, and said, “So don’t be sad. Your people will guide you even after a thousand years, proving they don’t blame you.”

After a while, Su Muluo softly responded and leaned against his own dragon.

Thankfully, he still had his dragon by his side.

He thought.

Otherwise, if he came here alone, facing everything alone… he might really collapse.

Thinking of this, Su Muluo held Long Ling’s hand again, refusing to let go.

Long Ling’s heart softened, feeling like he had a clingy little chick beside him, couldn’t help but kiss Su Muluo’s face again.

Su Muluo looked at Long Ling without saying a word.

A smile crossed Long Ling’s eyes as his fingertips interlocked with Su Muluo’s, holding hands with him.

The valley was vast, and the two walked for a long time, seeing only desolate land along the way, as if it would never end.

After a while, Su Muluo remembered the jade pendant in his pocket, took it out, and awakened the spirit inside.

“Lord Phoenix!” The spirit of the jade pendant exclaimed as soon as it appeared, “Rest assured! Today, I will definitely— Oh?”

It looked around in surprise, “We’ve arrived! When did we get here!”

“Just now, I was guided here by Frostweed,” Su Muluo said, “Do you know Frostweed?”

The spirit of the jade pendant hesitated and weakly said, “You don’t seem willing to mention your people to me…”

This sentence further confirmed to Su Muluo that when he created the spirit of the jade pendant, his people had already left him. If they were still around, he would never have kept it from mentioning them.

“But I know why I keep getting lost!” The spirit of the jade pendant quickly continued, “Because there’s a force here that interferes with my direction. The closer we get, the stronger the interference—so it’s very difficult for outsiders to enter here. This should be a protective measure left over from before!”

Su Muluo realized, “So is your direction correct now?”

“Yes! Ever since we entered the Abyss, the interference disappeared!” The spirit of the jade pendant said, “Lord Phoenix, please come with me. I’ll take you to where you used to live!”

It pointed in a direction, Su Muluo and Long Ling glanced at each other and followed.

Before long, they arrived in front of a small building. The building was made of wood and had stood for thousands of years, without any signs of aging.

“Indeed, it’s still here!” The spirit of the jade pendant exclaimed joyfully, “Lord Phoenix, Lord Long Ling, we’ve arrived!”

Su Muluo looked at the small building in front of him, feeling an extremely familiar sensation rushing over him. He was sure he had lived here for a long time… But why did all the other buildings in the Abyss leave no trace, while this small building remained?

He asked this doubt, and the spirit of the jade pendant listened and said, “Actually, back then, there was only this small building here. You set up a barrier on it, saying that you hoped that when your future self returned many years later, you could still see it.”

Su Muluo was slightly stunned and asked, “Is there really only this wooden building here now? Are all the other houses gone?”

The spirit of the jade pendant nodded and said, “That’s right.”

Su Muluo didn’t say anything. He had thought that the old residence of his people would gradually disappear with the passage of a thousand years, but he didn’t expect that it had already vanished a thousand years ago.

Who could have done all this?

Su Muluo couldn’t understand all this. He needed answers urgently and walked forward quickly.

Long Ling said, “Wait, Pheonix.”

He held Su Muluo, and the next moment, thick black smoke emerged from the desolate land. The black smoke surged and condensed into twisted figures, like resentful spirits from hell, rushing towards the two.

Long Ling raised his hand, a strong momentum swept away, instantly obliterating those shadows. But very soon,

The black smoke condensed again, forming a pile of dark humanoid figures. These shadows weren’t individually strong, but they were incessant. Just as one was dealt with, ten more would appear—blink, and they had layered around the entire small building and the two figures in front of it.

Su Muluo frowned. “Are these the things left behind by that person?”

He remembered the man behind the demon spirit telling them about “Abyss,” saying he had left a gift there… These might be what he meant.

“Blowing hot air,” Long Ling scoffed lightly, then said to Su Muluo, “Phoenix, go inside first.”

Su Muluo shook his head. “I’ll go with you.”

“No need. It might take some time to deal with these things, but it won’t be troublesome,” Long Ling said. “You go in and see what’s inside first, in case they do something to this building if we delay too long.”

Su Muluo looked at him, and Long Ling gently said, “Go on. I’ll be right at the door of the building. You’ll see me as soon as you turn back.”

As he spoke, he raised his hand and swept away a large number of shadows.

Su Muluo hesitated for a moment. He knew those shadows couldn’t harm Long Ling at all, but he still cast a barrier around his dragon so those shadows couldn’t approach him.

“I’ll take a look inside and be back soon,” Su Muluo said. “Don’t go far. I want to be able to hear your voice the whole time.”

Long Ling nodded. “Got it.”

With that, he leaned over and lightly bit Su Muluo’s lips.

The spirit of the jade pendant exclaimed, “Oh!”

Su Muluo: “…”

He tugged at Long Ling’s clothes, turned, and walked into the small building.

Long Ling stood guard at the door of the small building. When Su Muluo opened the door, he found the interior was as clean as new, after millennia, not a speck of dust anywhere.

The spirit of the jade pendant sensed his confusion and said, “This is also the law Lord Phoenix set up back then. Because you found it troublesome to clean here, you specifically studied the dust-free spell.”

Su Muluo fell silent. Back then, he seemed stronger than now. This spell, including the barrier around the small building, surviving to this day, explained a lot.

The furnishings in the small building were simple, with only some furniture casually placed on the ground floor. He saw a carved peach-red wooden table, and on the table was something wrapped in cloth. He stepped forward.

—On the square tabletop lay an elongated object wrapped in cloth, but he didn’t know what was inside.

“Did I leave this here too?” Su Muluo asked.

“Ah… I’m not sure about this,” the spirit of the jade pendant struggled to remember. “Perhaps it was left behind after you gave me to the avian clan?”

Su Muluo considered this possibility. Glancing back at Long Ling, who was still guarding the door, he felt reassured and picked up the object—

Just as his hand touched the cloth, black lightning suddenly surged out from underneath. In an instant, ominous thunder pierced through the entire room, accompanied by the intense sound of electricity, as countless chains seemed to bind Su Muluo tightly, while at the same time, a formation appeared under his feet!

Su Muluo doubled over in pain, ancient bells roaring in his ears, shaking his very soul. Blood surged in his throat, barely hearing his dragon’s voice speaking to him from afar… Only one voice was so close, right next to his ear.

“Fenghuang, do you know why I can enter here?”

The cold, sinister voice chuckled softly, like a sticky venomous snake crawling over his body, causing a nauseating disgust.

“Because I have a piece of that vile black dragon’s spine, taken from him by my own hands—”

Su Muluo’s vision darkened. He struggled to lift his eyes and saw something floating in the air under the cloth… It was a section of dragon bone shrouded in black aura.

“And now, I will kill him right in front of you… This is my gift to you.”

“Hahaha—”

The man finished speaking with a roar of laughter, his voice filled with triumphant malice.

——But in the next moment, Su Muluo pressed his hand down forcefully. His slender fingers and bones surged, gripping the tangible black lightning that bound him, tearing it apart forcefully.

The formation shattered instantly, and the man’s laughter abruptly stopped.

The chaotic black lightning reflected off Su Muluo’s snow-white skin. His ink-black eyes were as cold as the eternal snow on a mountain, radiating a chilling intent to kill.

He said coldly, “Who did you say you were going to kill?”

The man: “…”

Chapter 35 – My waist hurts.

Chapter 35 – My waist hurts.

Zhao Qi: ???

Hello, do you have something to say? If not, don’t speak nonsense, I can’t take anymore, thank you.

Xiao Shiqing glanced at Zhao Qi, his eyes writing two big words: Explain.

Zhao Qi felt wronged, waving his hands, “I don’t know, I don’t know anything!”

Li Chisu, with an “I understand” look, said, “Then it was my mistake. Prime Minister, just pretend you didn’t hear anything.” He paused, speaking meaningfully, “If Your Majesty wants to drink in the future, remember to invite me.”

Zhao Qi: “…Huh?”

Li Chisu smiled, “When Your Majesty is drunk, the things you do are not only interesting but also… hard to resist.”

Zhao Qi felt the urge to cough up blood. Seeing Xiao Shiqing’s face darken and Li Chisu’s mischievous expression, he couldn’t help but cry out inwardly: This is a disaster!

Xiao Shiqing’s smile faded, and his tone turned cold, “Does the Emperor treat everyone the same when drunk, regardless of who they are? Interesting indeed.”

Zhao Qi, unable to bear it any longer, pointed at Li Chisu and stood up abruptly, “Li Chisu, if you keep talking nonsense, don’t blame me for being ruthless! Ouch—ouch—ouch—” A sharp pain shot through his waist, causing Zhao Qi to cry out, “Help, my waist, it’s twisted!”

Li Chisu stepped forward to support Zhao Qi, but Xiao Shiqing got there first.

“What use are you,” Xiao Shiqing gently massaged Zhao Qi’s waist, “You should just go back to the palace and rest.”

Zhao Qi, holding onto Xiao Shiqing’s hand, sat back down weakly, “I’m fine.”

“Your Majesty doesn’t look fine. Prime Minister, your technique for massaging the waist seems inexperienced, why not let me try?” Li Chisu smiled, “I am confident my technique is better.”

Xiao Shiqing sneered, “Prince Zhaonan is indeed skilled in this area, I naturally can’t compare.”

Was it his imagination? Why did it feel like Li Chisu and Xiao Shiqing were… flirting?

Zhao Qi calmed himself and asked, “Prince Zhaonan, when are you returning to Nanzhou?”

Li Chisu: “…”

“My birthday is over, if you have no other matters, pack up and leave soon.” Zhao Qi said sincerely, “The officials and people of Nanzhou need you.”

“To be honest, Your Majesty,” Li Chisu smiled, “Before I left for the capital, the civil and military officials of Nanzhou repeatedly reminded me to return with a wife.”

Zhao Qi, puzzled, asked, “What do you mean?”

Xiao Shiqing said indifferently, “He means he’s looking for a princess to marry.”

At this, Zhao Qi’s heart tightened. He wasn’t sure if Li Chisu had given up the idea of marrying him as the princess, so he tentatively said, “Then the officials of Nanzhou must have the same thought as me and the Empress Dowager. My younger sister, Princess Jiayan, is seventeen and unmarried…”

Li Chisu said, “Your Majesty, the Prime Minister summoned me here for an important matter, didn’t he?”

“Oh, right, right. The main business is important, I almost got sidetracked by you guys.” Zhao Qi was a bit annoyed. Look at them, three of them, one emperor, one powerful minister, and one vassal prince, instead of discussing important matters, they spent half the day talking about who had better skills—at this rate, how could the Great Jing not be destroyed?

Xiao Shiqing said, “Last night at the palace banquet, the first prince of Xixia left midway and disappeared; after the banquet, he was found dead behind a rockery in the Imperial Garden, bleeding from all orifices, with no other wounds on his body, indicating he was poisoned. It was heard that Prince Zhaonan was also seen alone in the Imperial Garden last night. What were you doing there?”

Li Chi Su calmly said, “The reason I went to the Imperial Garden was because I was invited by someone.”

Xiao Shi Qing raised an eyebrow slightly. “Who?”

Li Chi Su shook his head lightly. “I don’t know either.” He took out a note and handed it to Zhao Qi. “This is what I received at the palace banquet.”

Zhao Qi read the note aloud, “Please have the Prince come to the Imperial Garden for an important matter—unsigned?”

“Yeah, I waited for a long time in the Imperial Garden, but the person who invited me didn’t show up.”

Zhao Qi passed the note to Xiao Shi Qing. “Prime Minister, take a look.”

Xiao Shi Qing pinched the note with his fingertips, then sniffed it lightly. “I will have someone investigate this.”

Li Chi Su nodded. “During the brief time I was at the Imperial Garden, just two cups of tea, I didn’t see the person who invited me, nor did I see the Prince of Western Xia. However, I did see two interesting individuals.” Li Chi Su paused halfway through his words and asked Zhao Qi, “Your Majesty, care to guess who they were?”

Zhao Qi didn’t give him any face. “I won’t guess.”

Li Chi Su sighed helplessly. “Your Majesty.”

“If you want to say it, say it,” Zhao Qi said woodenly, “I won’t force you.”

Xiao Shi Qing’s lips curled slightly. “Prince Huai and Rong Tang.”

“What?” Zhao Qi exclaimed.

“Prince Zhaonan saw them both in the Imperial Garden.”

Li Chi Su smiled. “Truly, nothing escapes the Prime Minister’s eyes.”

Curious, Zhao Qi asked, “How did the Prime Minister know?”

“At the palace banquet, they left their seats one after another, and considering their previous relationship, it’s normal for them to make private arrangements.”

“Does Your Majesty wish to summon Rong Tang and Prince Huai for questioning?” Li Chi Su asked.

Zhao Qi hesitated. “This…”

Xiao Shi Qing glanced at Zhao Qi and asked, “After Prince Zhaonan didn’t meet the inviter, where did he go?”

Li Chi Su pressed his lips together. “I can’t say, and I dare not say.”

Suddenly, Zhao Qi had a guess. “Please trouble Prince Zhaonan to make a trip. The Prince can go back to rest.”

“Alright.” Li Chi Su looked at Zhao Qi affectionately. “Your Majesty, we’ll drink together as you promised.”

Pointing outside the window, Zhao Qi said, “Do you see that tree outside?”

“I see it.”

“It’s cooler there. Go and wait.”

Teased like this, Li Chi Su laughed instead of getting angry. “Ah, if only Your Majesty were as lovely as last night more often.”

With that, Li Chi Su walked away, paying no heed to how displeased the two behind him looked.

Xiao Shi Qing seemed to be suppressing his anger, while Zhao Qi, though unaware of the reason, nervously twisted his fingers. “Brother?”

Xiao Shi Qing uttered a grunt. “Come here.”

“Brother called me over. Is… something wrong?” Survival instinct made Zhao Qi’s tone slightly coquettish. “My back hurts, and I can’t walk.”

Xiao Shi Qing remained silent for a moment before asking, “Why does it hurt?”

Because that bastard went too hard.

Did you think I’d actually say that?! I’m not stupid!

Zhao Qi thought for a moment. “Because I drank too much last night? I heard that some people’s backs hurt when they drink too much.”

Xiao Shi Qing looked at him with complicated emotions. “…Forget it.” He walked up to Zhao Qi. “Come.”

“Go where?”

“Back to the palace to rest.”

“Oh. Wait, ‘come’?”

Xiao Shi Qing said coldly, “You said you can’t walk.”

“…Yes, but can’t you carry me on your back?” Zhao Qi couldn’t understand why everyone liked to princess-carry him. Shouldn’t the normal reaction of a straight guy be to carry on the back to show off his strength?

Xiao Shi Qing said coldly, “No.”

“Oh.”

Zhao Qi lay on Xiao Shi Qing’s back. “Brother Prime Minister, if you’re tired, just put me down. I can walk by myself.”

“Not tired.”

“But Brother, you’re obviously walking slower than before.”

“Shut up.”

“I won’t.” Zhao Qi said, “Brother, the Hall of Government is quite far from Yonghua Palace. You’re not Changzhou. How can you carry me so far?”

Xiao Shi Qing stopped. “Then let him come and carry you?”

Zhao Qi thought it was a good idea. “Okay.”

Xiao Shi Qing chuckled.

In any case, Xiao Shi Qing carried Zhao Qi back to Haiyan Palace. After putting him down, he left without saying much. Zhao Qi scratched his head. Didn’t he just say he was going back to Yonghua Palace?

At night, Jiang Dehai brought supper. Seeing Zhao Qi sitting at the table with a troubled expression, he said, “The Imperial Kitchen made Emperor Xi’s favorite pig’s trotters. Please have one, Emperor.”

Zhao Qi didn’t look at him. “Take it away, take it away, and I’m not hungry.”

Jiang Dehai put the pig’s trotters aside and walked over to Zhao Qi to see. “Is it Rong, Li, Xiao, He… Your Majesty, are you writing a little person?”

“Um, these four people went to Yonghua Palace last night. Each one of them has the suspicion of sleeping with me!” Zhao Qi stared at the four words, and hated not to stare at a hole. “Who is it, who is it! Lao Jiang, what do you think?”

Jiang Dehai thought, “The slave thinks it’s Prince Zhaonan.”

Zhao Qi shook his hands. “I don’t like your answer, you give me a change!”

Jiang Dehai replied, “That’s the prince?”

Zhao Qi bowed his head. “I can’t accept this answer.”

Jiang Dehai smiled bitterly. “That is the General He?”

“Changzhou is not that kind of person.” Zhao Qi uses a pen to cross the word “He” and crosses the word, “he is my brother, he can’t come up hard.”

Jiang Dehai shook hands, “that is the only remaining premier.”

Zhao Qi said and shook his head, “he considered the future, I was a word in the puppet to make a puppet – who has seen that?”

The master and servant fell into silence together. Jiang Dehai said, “Could there be someone else who entered Yonghua Palace that His Majesty isn’t aware of?”

Zhao Qi’s face turned pale. “No, four people are already too much. If there are more, I might as well just throw myself off a cliff.”

Outside, Xiao Jinzi’s voice came, “Your Majesty, Young Master Rong is here.”

Why would Rong Tang come to find him so late? Remembering the kiss Rong Tang had pressed to his forehead this morning, Zhao Qi’s cheeks flushed. “Tell him I’m already asleep.”

Xiao Jinzi replied, “Yes.”

“Wait,” Zhao Qi turned over the paper with writing on it, “actually, let him in.”

After Rong Tang entered, Zhao Qi couldn’t seem to focus his gaze. “What are you looking for me for?”

“Well,” Rong Tang said, “why hasn’t Your Majesty returned to Yonghua Palace?”

Zhao Qi didn’t expect him to ask this right away, almost like a spot check. “I forgot.”

Rong Tang looked at him calmly. “Your Majesty promised me.”

“Yes,” Zhao Qi felt overwhelmed, “but I still have matters to attend to.”

At this moment, Zhao Qi felt like a scoundrel, spinning lies to placate his spouse.

Rong Tang’s demeanor turned icy. “Is it matters, or is it someone?”

Zhao Qi was baffled. “Huh?”

Rong Tang stared into his eyes. “I’ve been waiting for you. How much longer do you want me to wait?”

Wide-eyed, Zhao Qi said, “Rong Tang…”

Zhao Qi’s astonishment softened Rong Tang’s heart. He sighed and some of the chill around him dissipated. He embraced Zhao Qi from behind, resting his chin on his shoulder, and whispered softly, “Zhao Qi, don’t look at anyone else, just look at me, okay?”

Author’s Note: Rong Rong has finally lightened up a bit, but he’s going to turn dark again. Warning, Your Majesty, into the little black room.

I’ve read all the comments from yesterday. I’ve decided to take a girl’s suggestion and give the little one a name —

Little One: Father, why does my little brother have such a nice name and mine is so ugly? (╥╯^╰╥)

Qi Qi: Because your name was given by me, and your little brother’s was given by your father.

Little One: Then why did Father name me “Zhao Cao”? ←_←

Qi Qi: Because when I was pregnant with you, the word “Cao” (it means f*ck in mandarin) was on my mind the most. Hahaha.

Little One: Am I really Father’s biological child? (Thoughtful consideration)

T/N: There is plenty more where that came from, so stay tuned! And stay healthy! Straighten your posture, so some stretches and drink some water before continuing hehe~

Chapter 12

Chu Yunhan jolted awake abruptly. After a few seconds of blankness, his brain identified the Chinese overhead lamp on the ceiling, which had the familiar pattern of white cranes and auspicious clouds on it.

His head felt a little dizzy, and the strength in his body seemed to have been drained, making him feel limp. He moved and found that there was a needle stuck in the back of his hand, and he was being given fluids. His senses gradually came to life, and it felt like his waist was broken below, and his thighs were so sore. The stickiness in the back hole was gone as if some cool ointment had been applied, but the discomfort after being penetrated still remained. Under the thin blanket, he wore loose cotton pyjamas, covering up the dirty marks. However, every inch of his body reminded him that the horrific insults last night were not an illusion.

Chu Yichen r4p3d him in a brutal way while he cried and begged for mercy under him. He was fvcked with his buttocks raised until he passed out. Fragments of those scenes flooded back into his mind, making him tremble.

“Bastard…” He cursed through gritted teeth, his voice hoarse, and his throat felt dry and painful. Shame and anger burned like fire inside him. Chu Yunhan ripped off the needle and forced himself to get out of bed. Unfortunately, his physical coordination and strength hadn’t fully recovered yet, and the movement tugged at the pain in his body. His legs gave way, and he collapsed heavily onto the ground with a dull thud.

The door opened in response, and Du Chuan walked in quickly and ordered, “Quickly help him up.”

Two bodyguards immediately picked him up and placed him on the bed again.

“Young Master Yun.” Du Chuan covered him with a thin blanket, handed him a glass of water, and said, “Drink some warm water.”

Chu Yunhan waved the cup away irritably. The porcelain cup rolled to the ground, shattered instantly, and water spilt all over the housekeeper.

Du Chuan poured another glass of water and calmly advised, “You have a fever and need to hydrate.”

“Don’t you dare to pretend to be kind! It’s not because of him that I’m like this…” His words ended here, his eyes turned red, and he said angrily, “Get out!”

When the housekeeper saw that he was angry, he stopped trying to persuade him and said, “I’ll put the water here. Have a good rest.” Then he closed the door and left.

Chu Yunhan stared at the ceiling for a long time and finally closed his eyes tiredly. Breakfast and lunch were brought to the room, but he didn’t touch them. He was like a wounded animal in a cage, curling up into a ball and hiding under the quilt. The rising and falling heat made him drift into a daze. When he woke up again, the sun was already setting outside the window.

The infusion needle was re-inserted into the back of his hand, and his wrists were bound by wide leather straps and fixed to both sides of the bed, obviously to prevent him from pulling out the needle again.

Chu Yunhan smiled bitterly. As expected of Chu Yichen’s butler, even his behaviour was exactly the same.

Since he couldn’t break free, there was no need to waste his efforts, not to mention that he couldn’t use even half of his strength now. The infusion replenished the body with water, and he felt the urge to urinate unconsciously. He frowned and shouted, “Someone, I need to go to the toilet.”

After a while, Du Chuan came in with some people. The girl, who looked like a nurse, took his temperature and pulled out the needle. The two bodyguards untied his hands, slowly lifted him, and carried him from side to side into the bathroom. Chu Yunhan barely stood firm. Seeing that the two of them had no intention of going out, he said coldly, “Why? Are you guys going to watch me pee?”

The bodyguards looked at Du Chuan in unison, and the housekeeper nodded slightly before letting go of him and exiting.

He obviously had the urge to urinate, but because his front end was tortured by those restrictions last night, he instinctively restrained himself and couldn’t urinate even a little bit. This feeling of complete loss of control of the body was extremely painful. He lowered his head, supported the wall with his hands, yelled at the top of his lungs, and punched the wall so hard that blood oozed from the bones of his hand.

The people outside the door heard the noise and pushed the door open.

“Get out! Get out!” Chu Yunhan roared, grabbing the cup on the shelf and throwing it at the door, “Get out of here!”

The ceramic cup hit the man who came in, fell to the ground and broke into two pieces.

“Who are you telling to get out?”

When the cold and deep voice sounded, he involuntarily tensed up and took half a step back. There was unconcealable panic in his barely calm expression.

What should be said? What else could be said? He didn’t know. At this moment, facing Chu Yichen, he just wanted to run away.

However, the other party pressed his back against the door and locked it. The man’s eyes glanced at his bleeding hands and the trousers he had pulled up in a hurry and said calmly, “You can’t urinate, can you?”

Chu Yunhan, who was exposed by his words, raised his eyes angrily and glared at him.

The man slowly approached, and just as Chu Yunhan tried to dodge, the man grabbed his arm, forcing him to turn and face the toilet. Restraining his resistance from behind, the man said coldly, “You already tasted the feeling of irritating me last night. Do you want to continue today?”

The warning, along with a strong sense of oppression, made Chu Yunhan freeze completely.

He was a man of his word and would not show mercy.

Chu Yichen used a cruel method to make him understand his style of dealing with things and the consequences of trying to resist. The remaining pain in his body had not gone away, so he did not dare to move anymore and allowed the other party to take off his pyjamas. When the person behind him raised his c0ck to the toilet with warm hands, Chu Yunhan said with a red face and stiff face, “Don’t, don’t do this…”

“I’ll give you a minute. If you can’t urinate…” The man straightened his waist, letting his lower abdomen fit closer to his buttocks. His warm breath lingered in his ears with ambiguity, but his voice was cold, “I’ll thrust into your little mouth behind and fvck you until you can’t control your urine.”

Chu Yunhan was shocked as if struck by lightning, and said in horror, “You…can’t do this.”

       “Fifty seconds left.”

“No…” He stood in a panic, trying to concentrate. However, it was harder to let it go because of shame and nervousness, “Wait… I can’t…”

       “Fifteen seconds left.”

He wanted to beg for mercy, but the clock behind him didn’t stop. He was so frightened that his whole body trembled, and he finally let out a sad whimper. His lower abdomen tightened, and yellowish-hot fluid spurted out. At that moment, Chu Yunhan’s mind went blank.

Tears fell from the corners of his eyes.

He was finally forced into such an unbearable situation.

The man let go of him, washed his hands, went out and said to Du Chuan, “Take him downstairs for dinner.”

Chu Yunhan hung his head in the bathroom. He stood slumped like a puppet that had lost its soul, his eyes filled with tears of humiliation.

It was unusually quiet at the dinner table. Chu Yichen ate slowly. Chu Yunhan, who was sitting opposite, felt uncomfortable all over and had no appetite at all. He just sat silently and stared at the food in front of him.

When Old Master Chu was still alive, he enjoyed having meals with his grandchildren. He disliked how Western dining tables felt too distant, so he arranged a small round redwood table in the dining room of the side hall. When they were young, they loved crawling under it to play. Once the tablecloth was dr4p3d down, it became a secluded little world, serving either as a fortress or a secret chamber. Together with Minran and Jia Hui, they would imagine all kinds of childish and silly stories, playing with great delight.

Those little children laughing seemed to be right before him, happily running past his legs, leaving behind a string of childish laughter.

At the moment, he didn’t know why he suddenly remembered things from his childhood. His nose felt a little sore. He gritted his teeth, stood up, and walked out, but two bodyguards stood by the door, blocking his way.

“Come back and sit down.” Chu Yichen said.

Chu Yunhan stood at the door without moving, his hands hanging by his sides clenched into fists. His slightly swollen eyes were red.

The man picked up a piece of fish, glanced at his back, and said slowly, “I don’t want to see the ugly scene of pulling and tugging while eating, so I’ll give you time to preserve your dignity. But if you insist on testing my patience, I can tell you the outcome directly. Next, they’ll drag you back and pin you down in the chair until I finish my meal.”

Hearing this, Chu Yunhan felt a burst of bitterness in his heart.

These words were more of a threat than a warning. The man was telling him clearly that the result would be the same whether he resisted or not. In this house, he was alone and at the mercy of others; all he could do was obey.

He stood slumped for a while with his head lowered, then turned and walked back to his seat. Every step he took was extremely difficult. In addition to the physical pain, there was also the despair and humiliation that tortured him.

When he sat down, Chu Yichen spoke again, “From now on, whenever I am at home, you must eat with me. You are not allowed to leave the table until I finish eating.”

“What exactly… do you want?” Chu Yunhan raised his head, his gaze meeting the man’s, trembling for a moment before forcing himself to hold eye contact. His entire body tensed unnaturally, his voice hoarse. “I set a trap and deceived you, but now you’ve already gotten everything you wanted, and I have nothing left. I didn’t stop your progress, nor did I cause you any real harm. If you hate me, you could just shoot me and be done with it. Why did you… why did you have to do that…” As he recalled everything from the previous night, embarrassment overwhelmed him, his voice trailing off, unable to continue.

The man looked at him lightly, with a cold smile on his lips, “I didn’t cause any real harm to you last night, right?”

       “You…”

“The reason why I let you live is because I am still interested in this body. In this house, you are no longer the eldest young master but my private property. If you want to live more comfortably, the only way is to try to please me.”

These words were like a basin of ice water in his pocket, pouring cold water on Chu Yunhan, and his whole body froze. He looked at Chu Yichen in disbelief and said tremblingly, “You want to…continue?”

Chu Yichen put down his chopsticks, wiped his mouth with a napkin, and stood up. His eyes, dark as night, held no glimmer of light, appearing heavy and cold. “I’m going to J City tonight and will return in three days. Take care of your only capital.” After that, he left.

Chu Yunhan looked at his back, feeling frightened and aggrieved. He then slammed the table hard. The pain in his injured hand increased, and blood oozed out again.
