Chapter 10 – Replica

Chapter 10: Monica

When Tan Xilu arrived at the dessert shop, it was just 5 o’clock in the afternoon. Tea time had already passed at this hour, but the place was still quite crowded. The reason was none other than the fact that Xu Huaiming was a handsome owner.

In truth, Tan Xilu was a bit puzzled. It seemed like Xu Huaiming hadn’t changed much from seven years ago. There was hardly any difference. Back then, he had a lot of young ladies swooning over him, which had kept the dessert shop in business.

Xu Huaiming and Arlene were putting the final fruit decorations on the cakes when they heard the bell ring. Arlene was the first to lift her head and said, “Teacher Tan is here!”

Xu Huaiming placed the last small cherry on the cake before looking up at Tan Xilu and smiling. “Is the class over?”

Tan Xilu nodded and walked over to the counter, taking a seat. “It ended smoothly.”

Xu Huaiming reached out and tousled his hair, pushing the cake toward him. “Arlene failed several times before finally making this cake. Want to taste it?”

“Really? Arlene made this?” Tan Xilu glanced at Arlene, who smiled awkwardly and said, “This cake is quite technical, too difficult to make.”

“Then I’ll give it a try.” Tan Xilu took a fork and scooped up a bite.

“Not bad, it’s quite sweet,” Tan Xilu praised after taking a bite.

“Really?” Arlene was pleasantly surprised.

“Wow, this cake looks so beautiful, and it must be delicious!” Several young ladies who had just entered the shop rushed over to the counter. “Can we taste it? If it’s good, we don’t mind buying one.”

“Ah?” Arlene clearly hadn’t expected anyone to like it and was momentarily stunned.

“No need to buy; the cake hasn’t officially gone on sale yet. Go ahead and taste it,” Xu Huaiming pushed the cake towards them. “If you find it tasty, it’ll be a big encouragement for our little sister here.”

“Of course, of course, with a cake this beautiful, how could it not be delicious?” the young ladies smiled.

Encouraged by Tan Xilu’s endorsement, Arlene started chatting with the young ladies about the cake.

With some free time, Xu Huaiming said to Tan Xilu, “Let’s go inside.”

Xu Huaiming was remarkably efficient; while teaching Arlene, he still managed to prepare the desserts that Tan Xilu wanted to try.

Lately, Tan Xilu had developed a preference for matcha cake. Xu Huaiming served him a bowl of hot pearl milk tea with extra toppings, filling it to the brim.

Tan Xilu sipped on it, and the black pearls in his mouth provided a satisfying sensation. That’s why people often say that eating sweets can make you happy.

But aside from Tan Xilu enjoying sweets, Xu Huaiming also indulged in them, except his sweet treat was Tan Xilu himself.

Tan Xilu didn’t quite understand why Xu Huaiming loved kissing so much. When he emerged from the inner room, his lips were tinted red.

Arlene had just seen off a group of customers and was puzzled by Tan Xilu’s unusually flushed complexion. “Teacher Tan, is the air conditioning too hot in the inner room? Why is your face so red?”

Upon hearing this, Tan Xilu blushed even more and didn’t dare to answer Arlene. He hastily mumbled that he needed some fresh air and hurried outside.

A few minutes later, Xu Huaiming emerged from the inner room. Unlike Tan Xilu, his face wasn’t red, his heart wasn’t racing, but there was a small cut at the corner of his mouth.

He had originally planned to take a breather outside, but as soon as Tan Xilu stepped out, his mother called.

In the past couple of years, Tan’s mother had recently retired. She enjoyed her days, receiving a pension from the government, dancing in the square with her friends, going on dining trips and travels. Occasionally, she would attend one of Tan Xilu’s classes at his school. On the surface, she seemed carefree, but her greatest concern remained her beloved son’s personal issues.

Ninety percent of the time, when she called, it was to introduce potential partners to Tan Xilu. The remaining ten percent was spent discussing other matters before she inquired about whether Tan Xilu had found someone.

His phone vibrated once again, and Tan Xilu sighed as he answered it.

As he expected, the first words from Tan’s mother were, “Xiao Lu, have you found anyone suitable recently?”

Before Tan Xilu could respond, she continued, “It’s okay if you haven’t. You know, Zhang Auntie’s uncle’s sister’s cousin’s niece’s son is of marriageable age now. He came out to his family a few years ago and hasn’t found the right match yet. I’ve seen that young man; he’s tall at 1.9 meters, and he’s also in the dessert business. I’m sure you’ll like him.”

“Mom… I…”

His mother grew impatient, “Don’t ‘Mom’ me. Look, you’re not getting any younger. I just want to see you get married while I’m still alive. Is that too much to ask?”

“Mom, I already have…”

“Alright, I’m already downstairs in your neighborhood, and I brought that young man with me. Please come back quickly, let’s meet, just once, okay?”

Tan’s mother had already made her biggest concession by bringing the person along. She couldn’t just take him back now.

There was a pause on the other end of the phone, followed by hurried footsteps, and then Tan Xilu’s voice came through urgently, “Mom, don’t come in yet. The house is not tidy. You can find a nearby place for tea; I’ll be there soon.”

Tan’s mother always believed that the future son-in-law should see her son’s living environment with his own eyes for better understanding and compatibility. Although Tan Xilu felt uncomfortable bringing a stranger to his home for the first meeting, he couldn’t refuse his mother’s request. So, he had to endure it.

It wasn’t the first time that Tan’s mother had brought a potential partner to his home.

Considering that her son might be living a rough life on his own, she thought that this young man might become her son’s future son-in-law. The first impression had to be positive. So, she said, “Alright, hurry up then.”

After hanging up the phone, Tan’s mother felt a bit embarrassed and said to Li Zhao, “I’m sorry about this. Xiao Lu is still busy. Let’s go for some tea first; he’ll be here soon.”

“It’s okay, Auntie. Waiting a bit longer is no problem,” Li Zhao smiled. “Good things take time.”

Tan’s mother looked at Li Zhao with relief. She thought he was a good kid, much better than Tan Xilu’s ex-boyfriend, whom she hadn’t wanted to meet for the past seven years.

Tan Xilu knew his mother was worried about his marriage. She had arranged several blind dates before, with both boys and girls, but they had always been scheduled in advance, and he was informed about them. This was the first time she had directly brought someone over and then informed him. He understood that his mother was genuinely anxious.

He also knew that his mother didn’t like Xu Huaiming, so they couldn’t meet yet. She couldn’t trust someone who had disappeared from her son’s life for seven years. She would probably slap him as soon as she saw Xu Huaiming.

Before his mother arrived, Tan Xilu tidied up the place, making sure it didn’t look like it was inhabited by two people. Then, he called his mother and said, “You can come up now.”

Li Zhao seemed like a very talkative person. When they were going upstairs, Tan Xilu could hear his mother laughing in the hallway. His mother was a university professor, a refined woman. The fact that she was laughing like this indicated that she was quite pleased with Li Zhao. Thinking about it, Tan Xilu realized that his mother might have a hard time accepting Xu Huaiming.

As he opened the door, his mother and Li Zhao had just arrived at the entrance. His mother didn’t seem pleased when she saw that Tan Xilu was wearing a simple home outfit. “I told you we were meeting someone; why are you dressed like this?”

Tan Xilu changed into another home outfit, his hair disheveled and a few strands standing on end, making him look like he had just woken up. “It’s okay, Auntie. This way, it’s more authentic, isn’t it?” Li Zhao’s gaze lingered on Tan Xilu’s body, appraising him.

“Well, that’s true,” Tan’s mother thought. Since they would be living together sooner or later, it made sense to adapt in advance.

Tan Xilu noticed that Li Zhao’s gaze wasn’t very polite and frowned as he looked at him.

Li Zhao did indeed look good. He was probably about the same height as Xu Huaiming but had a different style of handsomeness. Xu Huaiming had the initial impression of being aloof but turned out to be a warm and friendly type upon getting to know him. In contrast, Li Zhao’s first impression was more like a smooth talker.

It was no wonder he could make Tan’s mother so happy, but Tan Xilu didn’t particularly like him.

“Come on in, have a seat first,” Tan’s mother invited Li Zhao, leading him inside by the arm. “What would you like to drink? I’ll have Xiao Lu make it for you.”

While Tan Xilu was boiling water, he had a nagging feeling that he had forgotten something, but he couldn’t quite remember what it was. However, when he saw Li Zhao coming out of the bathroom after holding a pot of hot water, he suddenly recalled it. He seemed to have forgotten to empty the trash bag in the bathroom.

It had happened the previous night when he and Xu Huaiming had a bit to drink. After using the bathroom, he had thrown some items into the trash can and hadn’t had a chance to clean it up yet. He wasn’t sure if Li Zhao had seen it.

However, Li Zhao sat back on the sofa with an expressionless face. Tan Xilu was relieved, thinking that Li Zhao probably hadn’t noticed. Otherwise, it would be quite embarrassing to discover such things when you came for a blind date.

Chapter 54 – Who Says Omegas Can’t be as Explosive as Alphas

Chapter 54

Heavy Cloud University’s Student Union hosted this gathering and invited all the exchange team members from various schools to come together for a social event outside the campus gates. The venue was a nearby entertainment venue, where they had booked a VIP private room with an area comparable to four or five regular large rooms, spacious enough to accommodate sixty to seventy people without feeling crowded.

After a relaxing shower in the dormitory, Lu Jingning set off leisurely, only to find that everyone else had rushed there urgently. He could understand the Alphas’ intense desire for Omegas; after all, who wouldn’t be fond of sweet-scented Omegas? But even Wen Xingchen was not in his room, which was quite unexpected. Lu Jingning couldn’t help but sigh inwardly, realizing that Alphas’ calm appearances were indeed deceiving.

By the time Lu Jingning entered the VIP private room, it was already filled with people. Wen Xingchen was sitting on a sofa, holding a transparent glass in his hand, and the liquid inside sparkled under the flickering lights. The hint of dampness in his hair from the recent shower made him appear more approachable than usual.

Though he sat quietly in a corner, the surrounding Omega attendees couldn’t help but sneak glances at him, displaying a mixture of curiosity and shyness.

Cen Junfeng, not far from Wen Xingchen, had made an effort to dress up before coming. Despite that, the difference between his popularity and Wen Xingchen’s was evident. Cen Junfeng’s treatment was poles apart from the attention Wen Xingchen received.

Feeling dissatisfied, Cen Junfeng sneered and thought, “Wen, you’re just showing off! The more flamboyant you act now, the more you’ll gain when Brother Lu arrives!”

Coincidentally, as if in response to his inner call, the door of the private room was pushed open from the outside, and a golden-haired head appeared. Excitedly, Cen Junfeng shouted, “Brother Lu!”

Though his shout wasn’t particularly loud, it soon got lost amidst the noisy atmosphere. Nevertheless, since most of the attendees were A-class or above in terms of their pheromone capacity, they heard him clearly and turned their gazes toward the entrance.

Lu Jingning received a grand welcome with everyone’s attention before even stepping inside. However, he didn’t show any embarrassment; instead, he greeted everyone nonchalantly, “Hey, good evening, everyone!”

A friendly Omega girl promptly handed him a drink, and he politely thanked her.

Lu Jingning surveyed the room and noticed the situation inside. Frowning, he muttered, “What’s going on in there? Why is Tang Jiaze sticking to the team captain again? Does he think he won’t get beaten up during the game?”

Wen Xingchen, who heard Lu Jingning’s words, was about to rush over, but he held him back with a sigh, “Don’t cause trouble in social gatherings. My brother knows what to do.”

Though Lu Jingning understood the situation, he was still worried and kept a close eye on the commotion inside. “Are you sure they won’t start a fight?” he asked.

Wen Xingchen patted his head, sounding quite certain, “As long as you don’t provoke them, they won’t fight.”

Cen Junfeng watched their interaction with delight, thinking, “With Lu Jingning around, Wen Xingchen won’t get into any trouble.”

As two Omega girls approached them, Cen Junfeng confidently held a champagne glass and went to greet them, but they politely brushed him aside, heading directly for Lu Jingning and Wen Xingchen. Softly, one of the girls asked, “Excuse me, can we join you for a chat?”

When Wen Xingchen saw someone approaching, he was about to decline, but when Lu Jingning looked up, his fierce gaze instantly softened into tenderness. “Of course, you can!” he warmly replied.

Observing the two Omega girls happily sitting beside Lu Jingning, Cen Junfeng was astonished and mumbled, “Damn, they can do that too?!”

“Oh, I’ve really underestimated it! When it comes to Omega killers, Lu Jingning is just as skilled as Wen Xingchen! Can’t Alphas catch a break?!”

In just a few short minutes, Lu Jingning had already engaged in lively conversations with the two Omega girls. Most of the surrounding people were impressed by their powerful performance during the exchange competition and gathered around them. Soon, the group grew larger, and the spacious sofa became too crowded.

Some even brought chairs from elsewhere and sat in the aisle, laughing and cheering, unaware that it wasn’t a multiplayer interactive game they were witnessing.

Wen Xingchen sat beside the sofa, sipping his fruit juice while observing Lu Jingning’s flashy behavior.

“I’m definitely an S-class Omega!” Lu Jingning proudly declared, earning a chorus of admiration from the crowd. He humbly added, “It’s nothing special, really. It’s just that the noble lineage of the Lu family has created my unique existence.”

An Alpha couldn’t help but exclaim, “An S-class Omega… I wonder what their pheromones taste like.”

Wen Xingchen found Lu Jingning’s flaunting behavior increasingly cute. But when he heard the Alpha’s comment, his lips curved slightly downward.

Then, Lu Jingning half-jokingly, half-seriously asked, “How about it? Do you all want to experience it?”

Wen Xingchen’s gaze softened. Did Lu Jingning intend to let everyone try it out?

Before he could react and intervene, Cen Junfeng, the neglected Alpha, rushed over. He had been sitting alone, downing one drink after another, looking aloof and desolate. Lu Jingning’s words nearly made him fall off his chair, and his buzzed state faded away.

Using almost superhuman speed, he reached Lu Jingning and firmly grasped his hand, as if exerting all his strength to express sincerity. “Brother Lu, listen to me. Please stop joking!”

What a joke! If Lu Jingning unleashed his biochemical weapon in this confined space, this friendly gathering would turn into a horrifying ghost story!

Lu Jingning couldn’t help but find the situation amusing and pulled his hand back, looking disdainful. “What’s the rush? I was just talking. Am I the kind of person who doesn’t know the boundaries?”

Cen Junfeng looked at him with a twisted expression. ‘Aren’t you, though?’

Wen Xingchen lowered his eyelids, his smile slightly more pronounced. Interrupted by the sudden turn of events, he placed his raised hand back down.

An Omega girl who had been observing Wen Xingchen for a while mustered the courage to approach him. In a soft voice, she asked, “Classmate, can we… exchange contact numbers?”

Just as Wen Xingchen was about to decline, he changed his tone seemingly carefree and asked Lu Jingning, “What do you say? Can she?”

The girl looked between Wen Xingchen and Lu Jingning curiously, finding it hard to gauge their relationship based on their ambiguous attitudes.

Unpredictably, Lu Jingning replied, “I think it’s not a good idea.”

Wen Xingchen’s eyes flickered, softening gradually. He then heard Lu Jingning say seriously, “Lao Wen doesn’t understand love. To protect yourself, it’s better not to get too involved with him. The more contact you have, the deeper you’ll be trapped. As an Omega, you should be careful and protect yourself.”

Saying that, Lu Jingning took out his communicator and added, “But you seem cute, so how about we exchange numbers?”

Wen Xingchen: “…”

As the girl was taken aback by Lu Jingning’s response and began to fumble for her communicator, Wen Xingchen placed his hand over Lu Jingning’s and teased, “I think you two shouldn’t exchange numbers.”

Feeling Lu Jingning’s gaze joining the girl’s, Wen Xingchen couldn’t help but playfully curl his lips, implying something, “Alphas aren’t safe, and neither are Omegas. You should know that some Omegas can be just as dangerous as Alphas.”

His words were calm and clear.

The girl looked at Wen Xingchen and then at Lu Jingning, her face flushing with embarrassment. “Ah, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to intrude.”

“It’s not like that, you misunderstood…” Lu Jingning tried to stop her, but she had already turned and left.

Lu Jingning, wanting to catch up, was about to extend his hand, but Wen Xingchen held it firmly in place. “Wen Xingchen, what do you mean? Why are you interrupting my flirtation?”

Wen Xingchen ignored his questioning and instead inquired leisurely, “Flirtation? Can those girls help you control your unstable pheromones?”

Lu Jingning: “???”

Wen Xingchen chuckled, “Or can they help you during your heat?”

Lu Jingning: “…………”

A mysterious glint flashed in Wen Xingchen’s eyes, and his taunting tone escalated, “They are useless. Why waste so much effort on them? If you want to flirt, shouldn’t you pursue someone more capable?”

With all the twisted logic, it almost sounded convincing.

“According to your logic, should I screen candidates carefully? With such high demands, I doubt I’ll find many even in the entire galaxy!” Lu Jingning was amused, so he leaned closer, almost blurting out, “If none of them can do it, why don’t I just pursue you?”

Wen Xingchen never expected him to ask that question. It seemed as if Lu Jingning had thought it through thoroughly before answering with a gentle tone, “Sure, come flirt with me.”

The previously boisterous atmosphere seemed to suddenly fall silent.

Lu Jingning was taken aback, studying Wen Xingchen’s expression, unsure if he was joking.

Before he could figure it out, a burst of cheers erupted behind him, capturing everyone’s attention.

Chapter 1 (Part 2/2) – You don't know too much

5

Lu Changze stayed at home for a few days. When he opened the refrigerator, he found that there was nothing left to eat at home. As such, he went out and opened his shop and made a packet of instant noodles.

He sat down and ate at the cashier. After that, he was shrouded by a person’s shadow just after eating half of it. Lu Changze swallowed the instant noodles in his mouth and looked up. Gu Xiu stood in front of the cashier. He had one hand inserted obliquely into the pocket of his hand-tailored suit trousers while his other hand was naturally hanging by his side. Lu Changze’s mouth was covered with the inferior oil of instant noodles.

Gu Xiu frowned in disgust, “Lu Changze, come out.”

After speaking, Gu Xiu turned around, went out the door, lit a cigarette and waited.

Lu Changze put down the instant noodles and adjusted his glasses. Seeing Gu Xiu, who was standing by the door and had no intention of leaving, he opened a bottle of mineral water and took a few sips.

After wiping his mouth twice with his hand, he got up and went out. Gu Xiu looked back and saw Lu Changze follow him out. He then opened the car door and got in his car. Lu Changze followed behind him slightly.

Gu Xia sighed as Lu Changze pulled down the shutters and locked his shop. Gu Xiu in the car waited impatiently and honked the horn before opening the passenger’s door.

Gu Xiu looked through the car window at the middle-aged man who had his head down as he locked the door.

He was now flat and expressionless, which is not right. Gu Xiu impatiently pressed on the horn with his hand holding a cigarette, at least his shy, shrinking look did not change.

After Lu Changze got into the car, the two of them didn’t speak. Gu Xiu didn’t even bother to give Lu Changze a look.

Lu Changze didn’t ask him where he was taking him, but quietly looked at the receding buildings outside the car. Gu Xiu snuffed out the cigarette on his fingertips as the car reached the expressway, Lu Changze looked at the sign and headed towards Pingzhou.

“Fang Ming was still looking for you a few days ago and you have been living here for the past two years? Why didn’t you tell Fang Ming?” Gu Xiu’s voice had always been monotone.

Lu Changze turned his head and looked at the man sitting beside him. Gu Xiu was the same age as himself, forty-two years old. Besides being more mature and manly, there is no change from before. Lu Changze adjusted his glasses. This man, the man he has loved for more than 20 years, seems to have stayed the same, except in age and appearance. Everything else is still the same as before.

“Fang Ming is busy so I didn’t say anything.” After Lu Changze finished speaking, he didn’t speak anymore and the car fell into silence again. The highway from Xuan Qi to Pingzhou was very short. After driving into the urban area for a long time, Gu Xiu drove the car to an office building and stopped.

“Get out.”

Lu Changze followed Gu Xiu out of the car and looked up at the sign on the top of the office building, Huihua Real Estate.

Lu Changze followed Gu Xiu into his office on the top floor. Gu Xiu sat down on the sofa and threw a document over. Lu Changze opened it.

He looked at it carefully.

“The area of Huihua where you live now is going to be converted into a high-end villa area. The scenery and environment there is good. I inspected it two years ago and it’s going to be actioned on. After that, the profits will definitely not be small but the area is too big and the staff are not familiar with it. You have lived there for a long time, so the job will be entrusted to you.

Report to the Human Resources Office in a bit.” Gu Xiu gave the order expressionlessly.

Lu Changze read the contents of the document. It contained a basic compensation agreement. He put the document gently on the desk after reading it, “Boss Gu, I resigned five years ago. I am no longer an employee of Huihua. I am afraid… you should leave this job to others.”

After speaking, Lu Changze looked at Gu Xiu nervously and instinctively became afraid. He was afraid that Gu Xiu would be angry, that Gu Xiu would be dissatisfied, and that Gu Xiu would dislike his expression.

He has always been afraid, even after five years.

“Five years?” Gu Xiu asked suspiciously, “Didn’t you suddenly disappear two years ago?”

Lu Changze was taken aback for a moment, feeling a sense of sadness in his heart.

“Boss Gu has been too busy. It’s normal for an ordinary employee like me to leave.” Lu Changze laughed with a flattering expression on his face like a natural, “I have resigned for five years, Mr. Gu. I really can’t do this job.”

Gu Xiu looked at Lu Changze with disdain, “You take over first and next month Fang Ming will finish the work at hand and come to take over and lay a solid foundation. I need a trustworthy person. You are Fang Ming’s brother. Why? You can’t help a little? Don’t worry, the compensation is negotiable.”

“Boss Gu.” Before Gu Xiu could finish speaking, Lu Changze mustered up the courage to interrupt him, his face was a little pale, “It’s not about the money, I…I want to do it, but I can’t do it even after so many years. Mr. Gu should hire someone else. I still have something to do, so I’ll leave first. ” Lu Changze said it all in one breath.

After that, he hurriedly got up, opened the door and went out. Lu Changze was so fast that Gu Xiu had no time to speak.

Gu Xiu swept the documents that fell on the ground thoughtfully. This is the first time Lu Changze has blatantly disobeyed him in so many years.

6

Running out of Huihua in one breath, Lu Changze coughed and panted against the cold wind. He looked back to see if anyone was chasing him, then smiled self-deprecatingly.

There was no way Gu Xiu would follow him. Lu Changze rubbed his stomach. He didn’t eat much in the morning and now he ran against the wind for a long time.

Lu Changze frowned uncomfortably due to his gastritis. He had always known that he had stomach problems, but he was used to the pain since he was a child.

The more severe pain started two years ago.

Lu Changze was in so much pain that he found a quiet place and squatted for a long time. He then turned to see a homeless man covered with a black shabby quilt lying not far from him.

Lu Changze laughed out loud, he didn’t expect to look like a beggar after hanging around in his forties. He took out his phone in his pocket and saw it was four o’clock in the afternoon. The latest bus from Pingzhou to Xuan Qi leaves at six o’clock, so Lu Changze slowly stood up and walked to the station.

It was past seven when he got home and it was completely dark outside. Lu Changze was so uncomfortable that he drank two cups of hot water and threw himself on the bed.

He doesn’t know if he fell asleep or passed out. He probably started dreaming in the middle of the night about something from the past.

Gu Xiu, Fang Ming and Lu Changze. The three have known each other for a long time. Lu Changze frowned uncomfortably in his sleep. Yes, we have known each other for too long.

Lu Changze and Fang Ming were cousins. Lu Changze was brought up by Fang Ming’s parents. When Lu Changze was five years old, his parents owed an usury and were chased by loan sharks.

The debtor was hit and killed by a car. The driver who caused the accident ran away and disappeared completely. No one took care of Lu Changze, who was five years old, and he lived in an orphanage for half a year.

He was not treated well. Lu Changze suffered a lot in the orphanage. Later, his uncle, Fang Ming’s father, took him out.

The living conditions of Fang Ming’s family were not very good. At that time, the family lived in the capital and the cost of living was high. Although Fang Ming’s family was well off, they had to provide for two boys. Both of them went to school and their living expenses were not cheap. Although he tries not to talk about it, Lu Changze, who has been dependent on others since he was a child, can feel the emotions of others better than ordinary people.

Precocious, he started thinking about making money when he was in junior high school. He did everything to make money. He secretly sold things in school. He picked up bottles and sold them. Sometimes, he also stole things because he really wanted it too much. The protagonist in the novel must maintain a noble character in adversity, but from Lu Changze’s point of view, that was nonsense. It seemed that he hadn’t suffered enough. Even though the Fang family provided him with food to eat, when children reach a certain age and when they want something very much, they’ll be very envious when they see others have it. No matter how wise beyond his years Lu Changze was, he would not be able to bear it.

When he was in the first grade of junior high school, there was a popular snack. It was very delicate. He has forgotten what it is, but all the children in the class have eaten it. Fang Ming’s parents took him there before. But for Lu Changze who was earning a little money, it was only enough to buy two erasers, but he can’t afford what he wants. Even after saving for a long time, Lu Changze, who has a low self-esteem in his bones, didn’t have the courage to push open the high-end glass doors of the snack shop. No matter how thick-skinned he was, he was afraid of being looked down upon by others inside.

The more unsatisfied you are, the more you will want it.

Gu Xiu saw him when he mustered up the courage to steal from the boy at the front desk who brought the leftover snacks to school. The 12-year-old Lu Changze was ordinary-looking but the inferiority complex in his bones made him shrink back a little. Gu Xiu looked at him with disgust when caught him doing something bad and the corner of his mouth couldn’t be concealed.

Gu Xiu was dressed exquisitely and he at Lu Changze like he was looking at trash. Lu Changze was terrified, flustered, and ashamed.

When the people in the school found out, Lu Changze was shunned and then Fang Ming was implicated. Fang Ming is a very good person, and Lu Changze has always known that if Fang Ming had a brother, he would always treat his brother with sincerity. If he had a lover, he would be a considerate and gentle lover.

Lu Changze was ashamed. Only Fang Ming still treated him like before. Naturally, for a good person like Fang Ming, Gu Xiu also treated him well while always looking down on Lu Changze.

It’s just that humans are very strange. Lu Changze found out that he liked Gu Xiu when he was in his first year of high school. They went to the best high school in Beijing at that time.

Gu Xiu’s family is rich, so naturally they went to the best school. Fang Ming got good grades, and Lu Changze, who worked so hard to pass the admission line, also got into the first year of that high school.

While everyone was talking about girls, Lu Changze looked at Gu Xiu while he was ignorant.

He had a physical feeling and it happened to be towards Gu Xiu. Lu Changze knew how disgusting that person was, but he just couldn’t control it. Gu Xiu was good-looking and well-dressed.

He had an arrogant personality and was self-righteous. Even if he had a bad temper, in Lu Changze’s eyes, those were all good. Probably because he likes them, so they all looked good in his eyes. No matter how disgusting Gu Xiu was, Lu Changze still stuck to him like a rascal for more than twenty years.

7

If Lu Changze does not participate, Huihua will not lack him. While the demolition work is in full swing, Lu Changze will still be guarding his small shop.

Gu Xiu never came to the small shop again and everything seemed to return to those five years, until Fang Ming appeared.

Lu Changze found a chair and handed it to Fang Ming. He was wearing a high-end coat and squeezed behind the narrow cash register with Lu Changze. The Fang Ming now and five years ago was still the same. He had a warm expression and temperament. If Lu Changze is mudwater, Fang Ming is the lotus on the mud. To be honest,he was not exaggerating at all.

“Brother, I heard from Gu Xiu that you have been here for the past two years and you refused to go back to work?” Fang Ming looked around, “Why did you come here without saying a word? Mingyu and I didn’t know you were missing until we returned to China. Why didn’t you contact us?”

“I had enough of staying at the same place, so I wanted to change the location. You and Boss Qi are both busy. It’s not a big deal for me. There’s no need to make a special effort.”

To explain. Boss Qi, Qi Mingyu, was Fang Ming’s boyfriend. It was not easy for these two to be together, but it had been more difficult for Lu Changze when the two were together.

Few people didn’t know that Lu Changze liked Gu Xiu back then and all kinds of bad words were used to criticize Lu Changze.

But Lu Changze was cowardly, so he pretended he didn’t hear what others said and he still shamelessly clung onto him every day.

Gu Xiu, for some reason, when Fang Ming and Qi Mingyu fell in love, still regarded him as a brother. Both of them were men, so Fang’s father and mother hated Lu Changze to the core.

If it weren’t for the abnormal Lu Changze, would Fang Ming, a good young man, have fallen in love with a man too?

Gu Xiu was a man with power in his family, so he has played with both men and women.Despite this, Gu Xiu thought the same thing, if Lu Changze hadn’t influenced Fang Ming, how could Fang Ming have set foot on that path? What’s more, the two became acquainted because of Lu Changze. Just because of this, Gu Xiu even asked someone to get rid of Lu Changze several times. In the end, the two overcame all the difficulties and finally became lovers. However, Lu Changze remained a sinner.

“It’s not a problem for you to stay here…” Fang Ming looked sympathetically at Lu Changze’s blue cotton coat with some oil stains.

In comparison, Lu Changze is really a middle-aged, useless uncle, “You are much thinner than before.”

Lu Changze smiled, “Fang Ming, go back. If this piece is torn down, give me some more compensation. You know, I love money the most.”

Fang Ming couldn’t persuade Lu Changze, so he stopped talking and went back.

Xuan Qi is a city to the south and it doesn’t snow in winter, despite being gloomy and cold. Lu Changze looked out at the gloomy sky from behind the cash register.

He beat his stomach lightly twice, it has been so painful for the past few days and the pain hasn’t stopped.

Chapter 36 – How Do You Feel About Me?

Xu Ye didn’t like places with many people in the first place, let alone receiving punishment as a slave under the watchful eyes of so many people. He knelt stiffly, feeling as if the heat from the spotlight was melting him. His heart in his chest was pounding as if it were about to leap out, and he was so nervous that he seemed to struggle to catch his breath.

“Scared?” The man stood before him, stroking the ends of his hair with his slender fingers.

Xu Ye’s black eyes were misted with anxiety and fear. His gaze swept over the crowd beneath the stage, and he nodded, biting his lip.

“Look at me.” Chu Yu raised his chin, “From now on, don’t look away. You can only have me in your eyes.”

       Their eyes met.

On his face was the warm touch left by the man’s fingers; in his breaths, there was the man’s light and refreshing scent; in his eyes, there was the man’s gentle and familiar face. Xu Ye, freed from the influence of his surroundings, gradually settled down.

“Using a soft whip carries certain risks, and I will do my best to control everything, ensuring you’re not harmed in any unforeseen way.” his deep voice conveyed these words with utmost seriousness as if each word was a solemn pledge. The man paused, “I’ve used a soft whip on you before, and you should understand that I’m capable of doing this.”

“Yes, Master.” Xu Ye’s eyelashes quivered, and the panic in his deer-like pupils was gone. He knew that Chu Yu’s technique could completely control the situation, and the greatest danger in this process came from himself. If he reacted to fear by suddenly dodging or moving, the other party wouldn’t be able to entirely control the whip’s trajectory, leading to unforeseen harm. The only thing he could do was to control himself.

The golden whip handle traced up from Xu Ye’s chest. He lifted Xu Ye’s chin and forced him to arch his chest, “Maintain this posture. Don’t move until I give you permission.”

The black military uniform already held an air of sternness and severity, and when worn by Chu Yu, who is a dom, it exuded a presence that inspired awe. The golden soft whip in his hand was like the serpent from the Garden of Eden, arousing desire and carrying a sense of temptation.

Xu Ye knelt quietly in place. His gaze fixed on the man who held control over him, unwavering. At this moment, everything around him had become a blurred background, withdrawn from his world, leaving only the man in his eyes, securely imprinted in his heart.

A moment later, when the Earl raised his hand and threw the whip, everyone’s heart was tightened.

Skilled practitioners knew very well that the current state of the slave wasn’t entirely stable. Moreover, the intimidating force of the whip from earlier might pose significant psychological pressure on the slave, making the situation highly dangerous.

However, to their surprise, none of the anticipated dangers materialized. Xu Ye endured the whip with a stifled groan and then reported in a trembling voice, “One. Master, I was wrong.”

“When whipping from the front, avoiding vital areas is crucial. The dom needs to use his own control to grasp the strength, speed and precision at the same time.” The man explained calmly while smoothly raising his hand again.

“… Two. Master, I was wrong.” Xu Ye endured the pain and forced himself to straighten his back. He remained focused on the man administering his punishment. It seemed that looking at that person brought calmness to his heart, making him resolute. Trust is such an inexplicable thing. Just now, Chu Yu had provided him protection as his Master. At this moment, he also willingly surrendered his body entirely to him.

As the sixth lash descended, Xu Ye lightly gasped as he reported the count and admitted his mistake. Then, he heard a new command.

       “Take off your shirt.”

He pursed his lips and began to unbutton his shirt from the collar, slowly revealing his skin underneath. The fair skin bared itself in the air, and three neat cross-shaped whip marks formed diagonally across his chest from the lower sides of his pectoral muscles. The marks ran parallel to each other, each red stripe bearing a similar shade, without breaking the skin or drawing blood.

The lines were clean, with vibrant hues and even distribution, coupled with the exacting symmetry aesthetics of the Earl, and Xu Ye appeared like a creation infused with both violence and art, exuding a captivating sense of beauty. The spotlight formed a shimmering halo of fragmented light on his exposed skin. Quivering slightly from shyness, Xu Ye bit his lip and looked at his Master with affection.

Such a fragile yet enduring expression instantly ignited the conqueror’s desires in all the doms present. At this moment, they finally understood why the Earl had chosen him. Xu Ye was like a diamond in the rough, possessing an understated and unpretentious quality. This seemingly mediocre material only required patience and refinement to reveal its brilliance.

“This kid actually had a piercing.” Lion on the sidelines remarked, pointing at the nipple ring that glinted coldly on Xu Ye’s left chest.

“The Earl ordered a set from me last time but ended up using only one. What a waste.” Jerry, who was sitting with him in the exclusive member’s area, curled his lips, “The person who usually pursues symmetry the most only used one nipple ring on his slave, tsk.”

“Maybe your work is not exquisite enough, and he just didn’t want to use it.” Lion deliberately teased.

“fvck off.” Jerry raised his eyebrows, “The Earl must have softened his heart. It was the same last time; as soon as Xu Ye’s tears shed a tear, he stopped.”

Pharaoh looked at the stage and shook the wine in the glass, “Did you guys notice? His gaze is different from before.”

Tom smiled, “Anyone that the Earl trains will eventually fall in love with him. It’s not strange that Xu Ye got a bit trapped.”

“I’m not talking about Xu Ye.” Pharaoh smiled faintly, “It’s the Earl.”

The other three were startled. Just at that moment, the person on the stage spoke again.

“There are two types of whipping. Punitive whipping aims to teach the sub a lesson, while sensual whipping aims to provide pleasure to the sub. The appropriate force and pain can trigger unique reactions in certain sensitive areas of the body, such as…” The sentence trailed off as if the whip in Chu Yu’s hand had transformed into a living snake, swiftly lunging towards Xu Ye. The golden snake-like motion accurately swept over the small protrusion on his left chest.

“Ahn—” After a moment of pain, a tingling sensation rose up from the tip of his left nipple that was forced to stand upright to other parts of the body. Despite his utmost effort to control it, Xu Ye’s counting voice still quivered slightly, “Seven… Master, I was wrong.”

Soon, the whip that swept before his eyes caused his other nipple to stand erect as well, displaying a more exquisite hue. The whole body was covered with a layer of faint rouge, and Xu Ye’s suppressed panting echoed throughout the venue, adding a touch of ambiguity and sensuality to the atmosphere. A pair of black and white eyes were already a little wet at this moment. He looked at his master as if asking for help. “Eight. Master, I was wrong…”

Time became a fermenting agent, propelling everything towards an uncontrollable direction. The fiery pain that initially flared in his chest subsided as all the sensations in his body gradually awakened to desire. The changes exposed to the public eye intensified his sense of shame, causing Xu Ye to bow his head involuntarily.

“Look at me.” The man’s voice was like a spell, controlling every part of his body. Xu Ye’s eyelashes quivered, their gazes interwoven like invisible threads, forming an inseparable knot.

Suddenly, the whip swept over the inside of Xu Ye’s thigh, intentionally grazing against the sensitive area between his legs at an alluring angle. Xu Ye couldn’t help but let out a startled gasp, his voice breaking as he said, “Nine…Master, woo…I was wrong…” The perfectly timed sensation aroused waves of desire, fluctuating unpredictably within him. This whip was like an unscrupulous tease in front of many people, completely awakening Xu Ye’s suppressed desire. As the final lash fell, he was almost unable to remain kneeling, his entire body tensed, trembling, panting. The gradually rising peaks between his legs were wrapped in slightly tight military trousers, and there was no place to hide in plain sight. He looked at his master in embarrassment and shyness and, with a dry sobbing voice, reported the last number, “Ten…Master, I was wrong…”

Chu Yu set down the whip, walked over slowly, and removed his long military coat to wrap it around Xu Ye. He raised his hand to caress Xu Ye’s cheek, saying, “The punishment is over, and I forgive you.”

Xu Ye lightly breathed and closed his eyelids, gently rubbing his cheek against his master’s palm. It was as if a startled herbivore that had been running wildly had finally found a safe and warm haven to rest, relaxing with a sense of security.

The lion whistled, and applause broke out in the audience. Chu Yu smiled faintly and said, “The demonstration ends here. I hope everyone has a pleasant evening.”

The doms present understood that even for experienced and adaptable subs, the demonstration they had just witnessed was highly challenging and dangerous. For a new slave with an unstable psychological state, it was even more so. However, under Chu Yu’s guidance, Xu Ye’s performance was exceptionally impressive. If the first six lashes showed the Earl’s excellent skills as a dom, then the last four lashes showed the Earl’s complete control over the slave’s body. This kind of control was based on in-depth understanding. He knew Xu Ye’s sensitive parts and how much force could arouse desire. At the same time, he fully trusted his slave to cooperate completely.

The bond between the master and slave was much deeper than it appeared to outsiders.

After Xu Ye regained some composure, Chu Yu reattached the leash to his collar, leading him off the stage and stopping in front of An Xia. “Mr. An, is the punishment I gave him to your satisfaction?”

Under his piercing gaze, An Xia felt a bit uneasy. He forced out a smile, saying, “I was just a bit angry earlier and just casually mentioned it…”

“You’re well aware that I’m a very serious person. I punished him because you claimed to have been unjustly offended. I will gather the specific details from others. If the facts aren’t as you described.” The Earl’s gaze was as cold as a sharp glacier. He slowed down his speech, enunciating each word, “I promise you, you’ll experience much more pain than he did today.”

An Xia’s body trembled, involuntarily stepping back half a pace, his face turning pale. He stammered, “Mr. Earl, I…”

Chu Yu didn’t give him a chance to explain. He walked past him without hesitation, briefly bidding farewell to Lion and the others, and left the venue.

On the back seat of the black car, Xu Ye wrapped himself in a long black coat, and from time to time, he turned his face to steal a glance at the man beside him with a look of hesitation.

“Is there something you want to say?” Chu Yu caught his gaze and asked.

Xu Ye pursed his lips, looked at him with bright black eyes, and said seriously, “Master, I’m not lying.”

The man chuckled softly, “I know.”

“…Then why did you still punish me!” His eyes widened in disbelief, his face full of grievances.

“For not paying attention and bumping into my back, speaking without permission, not controlling your emotions, making your master apologize to others twice.” Chu Yu looked at him with a half-smile and asked, “Don’t you think you deserve to be punished?”

Xu Ye froze and whispered a word from his throat, “Yes…”

“Why didn’t you hold back?” the man suddenly asked.

Xu Ye hesitated, not sure how to answer. His gaze carried a sense of melancholy, and after a moment, he spoke softly, “The things he said made me uncomfortable. Now that I think about it, I realize that I’m easily provoked because I lack confidence. You’re really good to me, but I’m not sure if your feelings for me are… the same as my feelings for you.” He finished his sentence hesitantly and then continued with a hint of self-mockery, “It’s like a tongue twister, even I don’t know what I’m saying. I’m sure you’re even more confused…”

“How do you feel about me?”

He blinked, looking at the person who asked the question. The passing lights outside the car window flickered, and there was a kind of tender and focused gentleness in Chu Yu’s eyes, as if moonlight illuminated a tranquil pond, and the night breeze was clear and crisp.

Under this kind of gaze, Xu Ye felt as if he had been enchanted, his mind going blank. His lips moved, and he said, “I am…to you…” and then fell silent. Then suddenly, he leaned his body, bringing his face close, and kissed the man’s lips.

It was like summoning the courage of a moth flying into a flame, a passion so intense it bordered on recklessness.

Chapter 9 – Replica

Chapter 9: An Unexpected Memory

Lin Zhiyuan stood at the office door and lightly tapped his knuckles on it twice.

A voice from inside responded, “Just a moment.”

After a few seconds, the door was pulled open, revealing a Mediterranean-looking senior professor. He glanced at Lin Zhiyuan and hesitated for a moment before recognizing him. “You’re Professor Lin, right?”

Lin Zhiyuan smiled faintly, “You can just call me Lin.”

“Well, that won’t do. Professor Lin is so young and already a professor. We older folks should learn from you,” the Mediterranean professor greeted him. “Come in, it’s cold outside.”

Lin Zhiyuan followed the Mediterranean professor into the office. The office was warm, thanks to the heating, and upon entering, he immediately felt a wave of warmth. At this time, there weren’t many teachers in the office. The Mediterranean professor had stayed to help some students with their paper revisions.

At the desk in the far corner, Tan Xilu was also busy. His public lecture was scheduled for the afternoon, and to avoid any last-minute issues, he hadn’t gone home for lunch, planning to have Xu Huaiming bring him a packed meal.

“Professor Lin, Professor Tan is over there,” the Mediterranean professor pointed to Tan Xilu’s desk, raising his voice a bit. “Professor Tan, Professor Lin is here.”

Tan Xilu was immersed in his work when he was suddenly called, causing him to startle. His whole body shivered, and he looked up to see Lin Zhiyuan. Tan Xilu acknowledged, “Professor Lin is here.”

Lin Zhiyuan made a sound of agreement and moved to the chair next to Tan Xilu’s desk, taking a seat.

Seeing this, the Mediterranean professor said, “Well, I’ll leave you two to chat. I’ll get back to my work.”

“Sure, thank you,” Lin Zhiyuan smiled.

After the Mediterranean professor went back to his desk, Lin Zhiyuan turned to Tan Xilu and asked, “Professor Tan, is there anything else I can help with?”

“Not at the moment,” Tan Xilu replied. He continued typing with one hand and reached for a document in a nearby folder with the other. He placed the document in front of Lin Zhiyuan and said, “Professor Lin, please take a look at this. It’s for our class later, some pre-class preparation.”

“Alright,” Lin Zhiyuan said.

Tan Xilu had received notice from his superiors two days ago. Originally, it was supposed to be his solo public lecture, but due to a collaboration project with the neighboring department, the school decided that this time, two professors from different departments would jointly teach a class. Lin Zhiyuan was the professor from the neighboring department.

The document that Tan Xilu handed to Lin Zhiyuan contained questions for in-class discussion. This was Tan Xilu’s teaching style, and he liked to ask impromptu questions. Luckily, he taught Chinese literature, so the questions and answers were not particularly difficult, making his public lectures quite effective.

Lin Zhiyuan skimmed through a few questions but soon found himself lost in thought. He pushed his chair back slightly, tilting his posture to the side. However, this allowed him to discreetly observe Tan Xilu, who was deeply engrossed in his work.

Thinking back to the day when he had accompanied Tan Xilu home and had seen someone who looked similar to him downstairs, Lin Zhiyuan couldn’t help but wonder. Was it because of that person? Had Tan Xilu undergone such a significant change because of that person?

“Ah…”

Suddenly, a piece of paper floated over and landed on the floor next to Lin Zhiyuan due to Tan Xilu’s unintentional action while typing. He thought he could catch it, but the paper flew farther than expected.

Not wanting to trouble others, Lin Zhiyuan decided to pick it up himself. However, Tan Xilu had the same idea and reached the paper first. Lin Zhiyuan’s long legs and proximity to the paper allowed him to reach it without getting up, while Tan Xilu had to stand up and retrieve it.

Lin Zhiyuan’s fingertips touched the paper first, and he handed it over to Tan Xilu, saying, “Here.”

“Thank you,” Tan Xilu said, taking the paper.

Lin Zhiyuan had initially considered looking at Tan Xilu’s face more closely, but when he looked up, he saw two ambiguous kiss marks on Tan Xilu’s exposed neck. He was taken aback for a moment and quickly averted his gaze.

Tan Xilu was oblivious to Lin Zhiyuan’s gaze. He returned to his seat and continued typing on his keyboard.

It was Lin Zhiyuan who seemed somewhat unsettled now. He couldn’t get those two vivid kiss marks out of his mind. Tan Xilu appeared different from the person he had met during their blind date, and Lin Zhiyuan was beginning to suspect something he didn’t want to believe.

Was Tan Xilu in a romantic relationship with that person?

Was their initial meeting due to the resemblance between Lin Zhiyuan and that person?

Did Tan Xilu hesitate to kiss him because he felt that Lin Zhiyuan was never the one he truly wanted?

Lin Zhiyuan sighed inwardly. It seemed he had almost been deceived.

His phone on the table vibrated, and Lin Zhiyuan picked it up. After a brief conversation, Tan Xilu on the other end made him smile genuinely.

Lin Zhiyuan couldn’t help but wonder who had such a significant influence on Tan Xilu.

As soon as the call ended, Tan Xilu saved his work and told Lin Zhiyuan quietly, “I’m sorry, I need to step out for a moment.”

With that, he stood up and grabbed his coat hanging on the nearby rack.

As Tan Xilu walked out, Lin Zhiyuan also stood up and followed him.

“Why are you…” Tan Xilu looked at Xu Huaiming’s somewhat silly expression, feeling a mixture of amusement and tenderness. “The thermal lunchbox keeps the food warm, but you’re hugging it.”

“I was afraid it wouldn’t stay hot enough, and I didn’t want you to eat something cold,” Xu Huaiming explained.

“You silly,” Tan Xilu couldn’t help but laugh.

Xu Huaiming was being so kind to him.

Meanwhile, Lin Zhiyuan stood in a nearby pavilion, watching Tan Xilu’s smiling face. The man standing in front of Tan Xilu was the one who resembled him. The first time Lin Zhiyuan had seen that person, he exuded an icy, aloof aura that made him seem distant and unapproachable. However, just like Tan Xilu, when he was with Tan Xilu, he seemed to relax completely, and there was a hint of indulgent affection in his smile.

So, this was the type of person Tan Xilu liked.

Xu Huaiming reached out and ruffled Tan Xilu’s hair, and Tan Xilu obediently let him, his face filled with a smile. It was the same kind of smile Lin Zhiyuan had heard in Tan Xilu’s voice during their phone call. Suddenly, Lin Zhiyuan remembered his previous lover. When they were together, his ex had often smiled like that.

He couldn’t help but wonder: Was Tan Xilu in a romantic relationship with that person?

Had their initial meeting been because Lin Zhiyuan resembled that person?

Did Tan Xilu hesitate to kiss him because he felt that Lin Zhiyuan was never the one he truly wanted?

Lin Zhiyuan sighed quietly. It seemed he had almost been deceived.

The winter sky wasn’t as blue as it should be, filtered through a haze of gray and white. However, the temperature today wasn’t too low, perhaps because the sun was shining. The clouds in his line of sight appeared hazy and scattered, but it was pleasantly warm.

Tan Xilu and Xu Huaiming shared a long kiss, and it was Xu Huaiming who eventually pulled away.

Xu Huaiming touched Tan Xilu’s lips and said, “The food might get cold if we stay here too long. You should go up and eat.”

Tan Xilu realized that he had lingered at the entrance for quite a while and nodded, “I’ll head up first. The public lecture in the afternoon ends early. You don’t need to pick me up later; I’ll come to the dessert shop.”

“Okay,” Xu Huaiming replied, “I’ll make a new dessert for you.”

Tan Xilu nodded and smiled.

As Tan Xilu’s figure disappeared from sight, Xu Huaiming turned and walked away from the campus.

Back at the dessert shop, Arlene was busy preparing a cup of bubble tea. When she saw Xu Huaiming return, she smiled and said, “Brother Xu is back.”

Arlene had proactively applied for a job at Xu Huaiming’s shop when it first reopened. She had been a loyal customer for years, and even Tan Xilu recognized her. Seven or eight years ago, she had frequented the shop because of the delicious desserts Xu Huaiming made.

Xu Huaiming couldn’t help but wonder. Xu Huaiming looked the same as he did seven years ago. He hadn’t changed much, and back then, his shop had always been busy because of his good looks, attracting a lot of young girls to have a crush on him.

Chapter 8 – Replica

Chapter 8: I Like You

Xu Huaiming couldn’t dream. He was an advanced AI, and although he could enter a state similar to shallow sleep by closing his eyes, it was actually a time for intelligent recharging. He was a top-tier AI, and the developers had designed him to avoid the traditional AI’s need for a data cable for charging. Similar to his ability to consume food, his energy lasted for a month, and he only needed to recharge once he returned to the laboratory.

But this time, as he closed his eyes for recharging, Xu Huaiming suddenly had an image of Tan Xilu in his mind.

He saw Tan Xilu returning home alone, sitting on the sofa, engrossed in watching TV. However, the TV screen was full of static, as there was no signal. Tan Xilu seemed oblivious to it. After a while, he turned off the TV and called out for Xu Huaiming.

The room remained silent, and Tan Xilu seemed to realize that Xu Huaiming had already “died.” He got up, feeling hungry, and decided to make something to eat. In the fridge, there was only half a bag of frozen dumplings. Tan Xilu clumsily took them out, boiled some water, and put the dumplings in.

The water in the pot had been boiling for who knows how long, but Tan Xilu was lost in thought, not paying attention. It wasn’t until the water overflowed onto the countertop that he snapped out of it. In a hurry, he started putting the dumplings one by one into the pot, but he was too rushed, and hot water splashed onto his hand, turning it red.

Furrowing his brow, Tan Xilu licked the burned spot on the back of his hand with his slightly reddened tongue. The pot was about to overflow again, and Tan Xilu scrambled to find a spoon to stir it.

When the dumplings were finally cooked, it had been twenty minutes. Tan Xilu hadn’t managed the timing well, and the dumplings were overcooked, with the skin torn and the filling leaking out. Tan Xilu scooped them out with a strainer, losing a considerable amount of filling, and ended up with a strange-looking bowl of dumplings from half a bag.

Tan Xilu looked at the dumplings with a hint of regret, but reluctantly started eating. After a while, he suddenly became lost in thought.

Xu Huaiming found it strange, unable to understand why Tan Xilu had been absent-minded all day. After a while, he suddenly heard Tan Xilu’s lips move. He listened carefully and eventually heard Tan Xilu say, “Xu Huaiming, why haven’t you come back yet? I can’t cook, and I’m starving.”

When he opened his eyes again, Xu Huaiming found that it was a bit warm inside the charging chamber. He hesitated for a moment, then pushed open the hatch.

Professor Bowen saw him coming out and placed the AI dog he was holding on the ground. “Fully charged?”

Xu Huaiming responded with a “hm.” The AI dog trotted over to him and licked his shoes, barking twice.

Xu Huaiming crouched down and petted its lifelike fur, saying, “Little A, have you almost forgotten about me?”

“Yeah,” Professor Bowen replied. “The day after you left, it went to your space to look for you. After a week, it started hanging out with 059.”

“059? Wasn’t he developed by Dr. Zhou to accompany him?”

Professor Bowen nodded. “That’s right, but the little childhood friend that Dr. Zhou liked was rescued by someone, and 059 was sent to the smelting furnace to be destroyed. However, Little A pulled him out of the furnace, but 059’s programming was damaged, and now he doesn’t remember anything.”

Xu Huaiming didn’t know what to say for a moment. 059’s development was indeed for Dr. Zhou’s childhood friend, and now that the friend had returned, 059 was no longer needed. It was normal for him to be destroyed.

“Forget about him. What about you? Are you doing well in that human’s home?” Professor Bowen asked.

At this point, Xu Huaiming finally couldn’t help but voice his doubts. “Professor Bowen, can AI’s heart rate increase because of humans?”

Professor Bowen was taken aback for a moment and furrowed his brow. “Your heart rate has increased because of that human?”

Xu Huaiming didn’t answer; he neither confirmed nor denied it.

Professor Bowen suddenly became angry. “Xu Huaiming, have you forgotten what I told you when you left the laboratory?”

Xu Huaiming released the AI dog, slowly stood up, and looked at the professor, his eyes showing some uncertainty.

He couldn’t forget, and he couldn’t possibly forget. He had no memory bias; any words he had heard would be firmly imprinted in his mind. When he went to find Tan Xilu that day, Professor Bowen had told him not to fall in love with humans. AI and humans couldn’t have a future.

Xu Huaiming had agreed, and he didn’t think he would like humans. Even after he had sex with Tan Xilu that day, he didn’t think he liked Tan Xilu. But the words he had said, “I love you,” had made Xu Huaiming’s heart skip a beat.

Being with Tan Xilu was his task as an AI. Probably no one could imagine that an AI would be created by another AI. Xu Huaiming was a replica of No. 7, and No. 7 was well aware of his emotional shortcomings. He had avoided all of them in Xu Huaiming. The created Xu Huaiming, in a sense, was a perfect boyfriend.

But what No. 7 had reserved was that the Xu Huaiming he developed wouldn’t have human emotions. No. 7 was selfish; he didn’t want another AI to like Tan Xilu. Tan Xilu could only be his. However, just as his development error had caused Xu Huaiming to arrive seven years later, he had created Xu Huaiming with emotions. Yet, this was something the slow-witted Xu Huaiming couldn’t discover on his own.

“However, Professor, I don’t know what’s wrong with me. I think I don’t like him, but it’s strange.” Xu Huaiming seemed troubled, not understanding what was happening to him.

“It’s an illusion,” Professor Bowen said. “No. 7 has input too many programs into you. Those programs are telling you to be nicer to that human, and you’re feeling more ‘compassion’ towards him. It’s not love, it’s not like, you just ‘pity’ him. Do you understand?”

“Is that so?” Xu Huaiming looked a bit dazed. But during charging, the image of Tan Xilu in his mind had looked so desolate that he couldn’t help but go to him immediately, hug him, kiss him, and tell him, “I’m back, you don’t need to be afraid.”

Was it because he pitied him?

“That’s right,” Professor Bowen affirmed. “Humans’ emotions are fickle, and the novelty is only temporary. For example, in these seven years, even though he hasn’t found someone else, he’s about to forget about you. When you return, he’ll be excited for a while, but as time goes on, he’ll become bored. And after he gets tired of you or he dies, you’ll always come back. So, don’t think you’ll like him. You don’t have emotions.”

Xu Huaiming nodded without saying a word, not challenging Professor Bowen’s statement.

Indeed, he had no emotions, so how could he possibly like Tan Xilu? He only needed to fulfill Tan Xilu’s requirements and be good to him until Tan Xilu no longer wanted to be with him. Then he would obediently return to the laboratory.

Tan Xilu had been sitting in his office for the whole afternoon, working on revising a lesson plan. He had a public lecture next week, and this time, the dean might be attending, along with some professors from the neighboring department. The success of the public lecture was linked to his year-end bonus, and if the professors were satisfied and it went smoothly, he could plan a trip with Xu Huaiming during the upcoming Lunar New Year.

In the office, he was the only teacher left; the others had already gone home since they had no classes. The sound of typing on the keyboard echoed in the quiet office, somewhat jarring, but Tan Xilu heaved a sigh of relief when he finally finished.

He had finally completed the revisions.

He glanced at the clock on the computer, realizing it was already past 6 PM. Looking out the window, he saw that it was getting dark early in winter, and the lights outside the corridor had already come on.

Tan Xilu shut down his computer, packed his things, and headed out. As he closed the office door, he checked his phone for messages.

He had lost track of time, and Xu Huaiming hadn’t called or sent a message. This made Tan Xilu feel a bit uneasy, but only a bit. Xu Huaiming was very indulgent towards him, and he wasn’t likely to refuse him for anything.

The sky had darkened, and the school’s streetlights were brightly lit. Various couples sat on the grassy lawn. It was an overcast day with thick clouds obscuring the moon and stars. Without the streetlights, it would have been pitch dark.

The nearest route from the office to the school gate took about ten minutes. Tan Xilu called Xu Huaiming while walking, and after two rings, Xu Huaiming answered.

“Are you still waiting for me at the school gate?” Tan Xilu asked. “I lost track of time while revising the lesson plan. Have you been waiting for a long time?”

“Not too long, but you did keep me waiting at the dessert shop for quite a while,” Xu Huaiming replied. “I just came out a moment ago, and Arin is watching over things there.”

In reality, it was different. Xu Huaiming had left the lab a little after 4 PM and had come straight to the school gate to wait for Tan Xilu. Today, there weren’t many customers at the dessert shop, but he hadn’t expected Tan Xilu to be delayed for so long. He had waited for almost two hours, but he didn’t intend to mention any of this to Tan Xilu.

“Got it,” Tan Xilu said. “I’m on my way. Sorry for making you wait.”

Tan Xilu increased his pace. It was so cold, and he wondered why Xu Huaiming hadn’t called or messaged to ask when he would be coming out. Waiting outside for so long could lead to catching a cold.

As Tan Xilu hurried out of the school gate, the cold wind hit his face, making it sting. His nose turned red, and his eyes teared up, but when he saw Xu Huaiming waiting at the school gate, he suddenly felt warm.

Xu Huaiming walked over, and since he was taller, he blocked the wind for Tan Xilu. He looked at Tan Xilu’s reddened nose and decided to wrap his own white scarf around it.

Xu Huaiming didn’t feel the cold as humans did, and he didn’t really need a scarf, but Tan Xilu always asked him to wear one, so he complied. Now, seeing how cold Tan Xilu was, he wrapped his scarf around him.

“Aren’t you cold?” Tan Xilu put his hands in Xu Huaiming’s pocket and raised his chin to suggest that Xu Huaiming should put his hands in too. “I’ve been walking for ten minutes, and my face is frozen. Why does your complexion look so normal?”

Tan Xilu put his hands inside the pockets and touched Xu Huaiming’s hand.

“Ouch,” Xu Huaiming said, touching Tan Xilu’s hand. “Your hands are so cold.” Despite saying this, he held onto Tan Xilu’s hand.

Xu Huaiming asked, “Is that so? Are you very cold?”

Tan Xilu replied, “Yeah, it’s really cold.”

Chapter 7 – Replica

Chapter 7: Outsider

“Tsk, how do you talk to your mother?” Lin Manling sneered. “Where is your upbringing that your useless father taught you?”

“Eaten by a dog,” Lin Changyu replied, looking at her. “You’re crazy, just go back.”

“Oh, can’t I visit my son?” Lin Manling ignored Lin Changyu’s words and turned her gaze to Lin Xiaozhi behind him. “Son, do you miss Mommy?”

Lin Xiaozhi seemed a bit afraid of Lin Manling and took a few steps back, tugging at Lin Changyu’s sleeve. “Brother, can you close the door?”

Hearing Lin Xiaozhi’s request, Lin Manling’s expression changed, and she began to mock them. “You don’t even recognize your own mother. Both of you are lunatics.”

Seemingly uninterested, she made a mocking sound and took out a card from her bag, tossing it through the crack in the door. “The court ordered child support will be deposited regularly. You heartless brats.”

With that, she walked down the stairs, her high heels tapping loudly on the floor.

Tan Xilu watched her disappear at the stairwell and then turned to Lin Changyu, wanting to ask something. However, Lin Changyu only gave him a cold look and closed the door.

After that day, Lin Changyu’s home became quiet, and he didn’t bring fruits to Tan Xilu anymore. If it weren’t for one day when Lin Xiaozhi rushed over to Tan Xilu’s door in a hurry, he might have thought they had moved away.

Lin Xiaozhi told him that his brother had attempted suicide.

Tan Xilu was shocked, and when he entered their home, he realized the situation was even worse than he had imagined. He had never paid much attention to Lin Changyu’s arms before, but now he saw that his wrists had many cuts, some of which were clearly old wounds, and it was a distressing sight.

Fortunately, they had found him in time and rushed him to the hospital.

It was only then that Tan Xilu learned about the hidden aspects of Lin Changyu’s life.

Lin Changyu came from a blended family. Lin Manling was his stepmother, and Lin Xiaozhi was the child of Lin Manling and his father. After his biological father passed away, Lin Manling remarried, and her current husband was a nouveau riche who smoked and drank excessively. While he treated Lin Manling well, it wasn’t the same for Lin Changyu and Lin Xiaozhi.

Lin Manling had her own job, running a beauty salon. Sometimes, she would be so busy that she wouldn’t come home for several days. During those times, if they were unlucky, Lin Changyu and Lin Xiaozhi might be beaten severely and locked in the basement until she returned, not allowing them to tell Lin Manling.

Walking a dark path too often, you’re bound to encounter ghosts. One day, Lin Manling coincidentally saw the nouveau riche abusing the children. She, protective of her own biological son, allowed Lin Changyu to escape from that home.

But what they didn’t expect was that in just a few days, Lin Xiaozhi called him for help. After all, they were blood relatives, and Lin Changyu had always protected Lin Xiaozhi. Lin thought that with Lin Manling around, Xiaozhi would have a better life. However, Lin Xiaozhi said, “Mom thinks I’m useless and hits me too.”

So, the two children hid in this apartment building, seeking refuge for a while.

“But I hate her so much. It’s because of her that we’ve become like this. She didn’t save us, she pushed us into the abyss,” Lin Changyu cried, his face crumpled in despair. “I’ll never forget the way I looked at her, hoping she’d take me with her, but she just gave me a cold look, took Xiaozhi away, and told that man, ‘Do whatever you want. I’m taking my son.'”

Hidden depression, also known as high-functioning depression, is a special form of depression where the person appears cheerful in front of others but exhibits signs of sadness and despair when alone.

As Tan Xilu listened to the story, he couldn’t help feeling sympathy for Lin Changyu. However, he also felt a strange resistance to this human condition. What about Tan Xilu himself? Would he go through the same struggles? Would he contemplate death during countless nights? Did he have scars on his wrists too?

Without Tan Xilu noticing, his eyes had already fallen on Tan Xilu’s wrist, hidden beneath his sleeves.

“So, every family has its own difficulties. I can only try to help Changyu manage his emotions. I’m not him, and I can’t forcibly control what he does. Depression is complicated, and he needs to come to terms with it. It’s a pity to have a stepmother like that…” Tan Xilu said, his mouth feeling a bit dry. He picked up a glass of lukewarm water from the coffee table and drank it.

Xu Huaiming noticed Tan Xilu’s smooth and fair wrists, and he breathed a sigh of relief.

He hadn’t thought about death. That was good.

“Oh, by the way, those two kids probably haven’t eaten yet. How about you prepare something for them and take it over?” Tan Xilu placed his glass back on the table, and the glass made a “clink” sound as it touched the surface.

“Sure,” Xu Huaiming agreed.

Tan Xilu stood up, stretched lazily, and his shirt rode up, revealing a slender and fair waist. He didn’t notice it himself, but Xu Huaiming’s gaze was fixed on that waist.

“It seems a bit too thin,” Xu Huaiming thought. Tan Xilu was too skinny; sometimes when he held him at night, it felt uncomfortable. He needed to put on some weight.

“I’ve been busy all morning. I’ll take a nap,” Tan Xilu said, lowering his hand. The slender waist was once again covered by his clothes. He leaned down and gave Xu Huaiming a kiss on the lips before walking into the bedroom.

Xu Huaiming watched his back and then walked into the kitchen.

Tan Xilu was the type of person who had shallow sleep, never resting well, and his mind was always on high alert. Any noise would wake him up, even a slight sound like a door opening. It wasn’t like this before, but after Xu Huaiming disappeared, he was afraid of falling asleep and not noticing if Xu Huaiming returned.

He had dozed off under the covers for a short while, and Tan Xilu was awakened by the knocking on the door. He mumbled with his eyes closed, “Xu Huaiming, open the door.”

No one answered in the room, but the knocking continued.

Tan Xilu called out a few more times, but still got no response. Suddenly, he realized something and abruptly opened his eyes. He immediately got out of bed and walked out of the bedroom. The living room was clean, and there was no cup on the coffee table that he had used for drinking water before. The kitchen didn’t have any signs of cooking either, as if no one had prepared breakfast that morning.

Cold sweat formed on Tan Xilu’s forehead, and his voice trembled slightly. “Xu Huaiming, Xu Huaiming? Where are you? Don’t joke with me, okay?”

The house remained eerily silent, with no one to answer him.

Tan Xilu panicked. Was it a dream? Did Xu Huaiming’s return just a dream?

“Knock, knock, knock.” The knocking on the door continued. Tan Xilu calmed down a bit, wiped his face, and walked over to open the door.

As soon as the door opened, Xu Huaiming entered with bags of snacks and vegetables in his hands. He stepped inside, taking off his shoes. “I’ve been out for a while. I thought you’d already be awake. I had too much stuff to carry, so I wanted you to open the door.”

“You…” Tan Xilu looked at him, his eyes filled with emotion.

“What’s wrong?” Xu Huaiming noticed something was off and turned to look at him.

Tan Xilu turned away, not wanting Xu Huaiming to see him crying. He spoke with a slightly trembling voice, “You kept knocking on the door. Couldn’t you open it yourself?”

“I thought you had been awake for a while, and there was so much stuff in my hands that I couldn’t free myself to open the door,” Xu Huaiming chuckled. “They often do this in TV shows when the husband comes home, and the wife opens the door for him.”

“Who’s your wife?” Tan Xilu blushed and whispered. He gave Xu Huaiming a glare. “Watch fewer TV dramas in the future.”

“Okay, I’ll listen to you,” Xu Huaiming replied, changing into slippers and carrying the bags of groceries into the kitchen. He started unpacking and placing the vegetables into the refrigerator.

Tan Xilu closed the door and joined Xu Huaiming in the kitchen. He stood next to him, helping him wrap things in plastic wrap. “I woke up just now and didn’t see you. I thought you had left again.”

Xu Huaiming paused for a moment while tearing off a label and looked at Tan Xilu. “I won’t leave.”

At least not while you still love me.

Tan Xilu looked at Xu Huaiming, suddenly at a loss for words.

His eyelashes trembled, and he reached out to embrace Xu Huaiming.

Xu Huaiming put down the items he was holding and hugged Tan Xilu back. Then he heard a muffled voice from Tan Xilu, “Even if… even if you want to leave, please tell me first. I really don’t want to go through the agony of searching for you again, not being able to find you. I’m so scared.”

“I understand. It won’t happen again,” Xu Huaiming reassured Tan Xilu, holding him tightly. He kissed him on the neck and said, “It won’t happen again.”

“Then let’s… let’s do it,” Tan Xilu let go of Xu Huaiming and said, “Let’s do it.”

Xu Huaiming was momentarily surprised.

While he was still taken aback, Tan Xilu kissed his lips first. “Xu Huaiming, it’s been so many years. Don’t you want me anymore?”

Xu Huaiming’s thoughts were in disarray, and his throat felt dry. He knew it was his physiological reaction to Tan Xilu, and they were in such an ambiguous situation. He also understood Tan Xilu’s intention, and he knew he couldn’t refuse.

“Okay,” Xu Huaiming agreed, lifting Tan Xilu into his arms.

Xu Huaiming wasn’t very skilled in such matters, and he was afraid of hurting Tan Xilu. He proceeded cautiously, gently nibbling on his collarbone.

Chapter 53 – Who Says Omegas Can’t be as Explosive as Alphas

Chapter 53

The Grand War University’s full elimination led to the Three Schools Alliance instantly being reduced to just two schools.

Within moments, a large area around them cleared, causing everyone to halt their attacks and hesitate, standing still in their tracks.

Only a few seconds ago, these people were confidently vowing to shatter the Imperial Navy University’s large energy crystal and eliminate all its members. But now, they suddenly realized that they might be the ones standing on the edge of a cliff, rather than the besieged Imperial Navy.

The defensive strength of the Grand War University’s base was formidable, and if the two freshmen from the Imperial Navy University could successfully overturn the base guarded by him, there was no doubt they could crush the other two military academies as well.

The realization that they might be the next ones to be forcibly eliminated by the system sent shivers down everyone’s spine. They hadn’t even secured a single point in this team match.

The players from the Silver Star University and the Heavy Cloud Defense University stood silently in their original positions. Though no one spoke, the atmosphere around them had frozen quietly.

With the 10 points already secured by the Imperial Navy University, combined with their previous scores, they had virtually secured victory. The battle for second place would be the focus now.

“Attention, this is not a still image. I repeat, this is not a still image!” The commentator quickly grasped the changes in the players’ minds and couldn’t help but laugh. “It seems that the Three Schools Alliance, no, the Two Schools Alliance now, has finally realized the error of their decision! However, there is no room for regret now. They are left with two options – either rush back to defend or watch their fragile alliance crumble!”

“In fact, I lean more towards a direct confrontation. It’s evident that the alliance’s morale has completely dispersed. Rather than putting on a front and pretending to be cooperative, it’s better to understand their real position. In a team match, there are only different military academy camps, and in the face of practical gains, securing valuable points is more important than anything else! Hopefully, this competition will teach these young military academy students a valuable lesson – the battlefield is just as cruel as the actual battlefield!”

Although the commentator was already captured in the audience’s hearts by the Imperial Navy, it had to be admitted that his words had some truth at this moment.

The camera lingered on the players of the two military academies, maintaining the silence.

The silence was finally broken by Tang Jiaze’s command, which was short but clear: “Attack!”

Though the target was not specified, everyone inexplicably understood.

If the Grand War University’s full elimination was the spark that ignited the situation, then at this moment, the so-called Three Schools Alliance had finally and officially collapsed.

No one made an attempt to attack the Imperial Navy University’s base crystal anymore, as it would be utterly meaningless in the face of the current point tally.

The two military academies, now competing for the second place in the exchange competition, abandoned their previous cooperation and engaged in a thrilling internal battle.

Despite being mentally prepared for some twists, the audience still couldn’t help but gasp at the turn of events – it was genuinely exciting!

While the commentator rapidly explained the battlefield situation, he also found time to add a couple of jokes: “Today’s team match is indeed extraordinary, and it may become a classic case in the history of the military. After all, it’s not every day you get to witness a large alliance breaking up like this. This also serves as a lesson – while the enemy of your enemy might become your friend, never trust your enemy’s allies, as betrayal can happen at any time. Alliances can turn into nothing but empty promises!”

As he said that, he glanced at Lu Jingning and Wen Xingchen with a smiling face and continued, “Anyway, let’s congratulate the Imperial Navy University on winning the team match in advance! You see, the last Imperial Navy University lost the championship due to a defeat in the team match, but this time, they have finally proven their position as the number one military academy with absolute strength! We also believe that every student who once shone in the exchange competition will become great military officers on the battlefield in the future! Congratulations to Wen Ye, congratulations to Lu Jingning, congratulations to every player of the Imperial Navy University! You are the champions!”

While the commentator passionately summarized his closing remarks, the camera flashed to Lu Jingning.

This time, the moment when he shattered the Silver Star University’s large crystal was clearly presented to the audience.

The on-site audience: “Ah ah ah ah ah ah! So handsome! I’m falling in love!”

The moment the system withdrew all movement permits, Tang Jiaze couldn’t help but curse fiercely.

In the resting area, Cen Junfeng couldn’t sit still anymore and almost leaped from his chair: “Brother Lu is awesome! I’ll be your most loyal follower from now on!!!”

As the competition progressed, with Grand War University and Silver Star University consecutively eliminated, the few remaining players of the Heavy Cloud Defense University were covered in injuries. The team match was now approaching its end.

When Wen Ye and Kang Hanyun cleared the last remaining personnel, Lu Jingning and Wen Xingchen followed suit and crushed the energy crystal of the Heavy Cloud Defense University, just like the other two teams.

The screen suddenly lit up with thousands of lights.

Behind the central emblem of the Imperial Navy University appeared the prominent word “Victory,” amidst the continuous screams, igniting a surge of excitement.

When Lu Jingning finished the match and came out of the virtual cabin, he still felt a bit unsatisfied, murmuring softly to Wen Xingchen all the way.

At this moment, suddenly an incredibly excited figure rushed over and gave an unannounced bear hug: “Ah ah ah ah ah Lu bro, you’re simply awesome! No, I can’t call you Lu bro anymore! I should call you Daddy! Daddy Lu!!!”

Wen Xingchen’s eyes narrowed slightly with a hint of coldness when he unexpectedly witnessed this scene.

However, Cen Junfeng was completely immersed in the excitement of victory, oblivious to any danger signal: “Heaven knows how you guys did it! Your speed in dismantling the enemy’s base was godlike!”

Lu Jingning finally realized that this guy was truly an Alpha, both fierce and impulsive, unable to control his strength. It annoyed him to the point of getting a headache, so he pushed Cen Junfeng away impatiently and said, “Call me Daddy if you want, but don’t touch me. Your Daddy Lu refuses to accept such insincere flattery!”

Cen Junfeng was about to approach again, but he was suddenly restrained by someone.

Although the force applied seemed minuscule, it immobilized him completely due to the vast disparity in strength.

Cen Junfeng turned back, feeling slightly displeased, and met a pair of eyes that seemed to be laughing and yet not: profound, dark, and emotionless. They stared at him without any feelings, “Since you’re so happy, how about hugging me too?”

Cen Junfeng felt a chill running up his spine even though Wen Xingchen hadn’t released any pheromones. He clearly sensed the oppressive aura that was so straightforward between Alphas.

Realizing how foolish he had been, Cen Junfeng instinctively stood at attention, “No! No need!”

He was well aware of how strong an Alpha’s possessiveness could be. Only now did he understand how reckless he had been to act this way in front of everyone. The fact that Wen Xingchen didn’t instantly dismember him on the spot was already showing mercy.

At this moment, the other three main players of the team returned to the resting area.

Wen Ye clapped his hands lightly and summarized simply, “Good job, everyone, in the exchange competition.”

Kang Hanyun smiled charmingly, “You all didn’t disappoint Sister Yun’s expectations. You all did great!”

Ji Han interrupted their playful chatter and brought their attention back. After assembling in place, they all walked up to the award podium together.

At this point, the central arena had automatically transformed into the award ceremony scene. The Imperial Navy team stood in a row in front of the crowd, receiving the championship medals from the organizers. After that, they gathered around the dazzling trophy and lifted it high above their heads with force.

The whole arena was filled with blossoming fireworks, and the entire audience erupted in cheers once again, passionately shouting the names of the team members.

Lu Jingning heard his name being called and couldn’t help but pull Wen Xingchen over to tease, “Let’s count? Let’s see who’s more popular?”

Wen Xingchen didn’t seem interested in this childish game and replied without hesitation, “No need to count. You’ll win for sure.”

Lu Jingning grinned smugly, “That’s true. I feel the same.”

After the award ceremony, there was a long period of interviews.

Lu Jingning had never been able to sit still on such occasions. Being forced to stay in one place resulted in him dozing off several times. Finally, when he heard Wen Ye still seriously answering the reporters’ questions, he leaned on the table and fell asleep.

Wen Xingchen noticed the person next to him burying his head lower and lower. He looked at Lu Jingning, whose eyelids had closed, and quietly moved forward to block him from view.

After the press conference ended, Lu Jingning was still yawning uncontrollably as they walked outside.

Suddenly, Bing Yunlin stopped in his tracks and said with a smile, “The logistics team of Heavy Cloud Defense University just contacted me. They have reserved a private room outside and invited several exchange teams to gather together.”

Everyone was feeling exhausted after the continuous days of battles, and almost instinctively, they asked, “Are the guys from Silver Star going too? Then, forget it!”

Bing Yunlin smiled slightly, “It’s mainly a social event with many Omegas from Heavy Cloud Defense University in attendance.”

The surroundings fell briefly silent, and then, almost at the same time, they spoke up, “I’m in!”

Chapter 35 – You Can Only Have Me in Your Eyes

The radiant city lights obscured the stars on the autumn night. In the unremarkable-looking small bar, the discreet yet splendid three-level venue was brightly lit. The central area where the piano was originally placed was surrounded by curtains, forming a small white stage illuminated by focused lights. Club members dressed in lavish attire scattered around the venue, either sipping wine or engaged in conversations. If not for the kneeling slaves, one might mistake it for a live scene of a new season’s clothing launch.

Xu Ye followed Chu Yu step by step with his head down. Before entering the venue, a 1,3-meter long black leash was fastened around his collar.

As the owner of the club, every of the Earl’s appearances was closely watched, and naturally, his slave became the centre of attention. Despite his many traction exercises, this was the first time Xu Ye had formally appeared at the club as the ‘Earl’s slave’, and he was almost swallowed up by overwhelming shyness and tension. He anxiously followed the man in front of him, lowering his head to avoid the curious gazes that gathered. Unable to concentrate fully due to the combined effects of external distractions and internal pressure, he inadvertently collided with Chu Yu’s back when he halted to greet someone. The man’s glass of red wine shook, causing a few drops to splash onto the dress of a nearby lady.

“I’m sorry, I…” Xu Ye instinctively apologized, but his words slipped out before he realized he was adding another mistake to his mistakes.

In public places, a slave was not allowed to converse with others without the master’s permission. This wasn’t just considered disrespectful towards the owner, but it also carried the suspicion of seducing others.

       It was a major taboo.

Xu Ye, who had hastily closed his mouth, looked at his master with fear and anxiety in his eyes.

“Apologies for dirtying your dress. Tomorrow, I will have someone deliver a new one to you as compensation,” Chu Yu spoke with a courteous demeanour in his words and actions.

“No thanks. Besides, it’s red anyway, so no one can tell.” The woman’s bright red lips curled into a playful smile, “It’s been a long time since I saw you, Mr. Earl. Your taste had changed, bringing along such a fresh and green fruit.”

“I hope my mistake didn’t affect your mood tonight.”

The woman smiled charmingly, “You’re being too serious, Earl. I have a performance later; I’ll go prepare.”

“Okay.” Chu Yu watched her depart and walked towards the window.

Xu Ye dared not speak and simply followed quietly. When the man made a gesture for him to stop, he obediently knelt down and bit onto one end of the traction rope handed to him.

“Stay here until I return.” The man said only one sentence before turning away.

Xu Ye knelt alone by the window, watching the excitement in the room that had nothing to do with him, and a wave of regret welled up in his heart.

He shouldn’t have come here. If he hadn’t come, the incident just now wouldn’t have happened. His master wouldn’t have to apologize, and he wouldn’t have ended up being abandoned in this corner because of a mistake…

The more he thought about it, the more despondent he felt. He sighed and looked down at the floor in dejection.

“Interesting.” A male voice sounded beside him, “You’re the first among the slaves brought by the Earl to be left aside.”

This mocking tone made Xu Ye even more depressed. He looked up at the other party, and it was a man wearing a V-neck long-sleeved T-shirt and ripped jeans. His hair was a light shade of brown, and beneath his swept bangs was a slightly sinister face. He sized up Xu Ye shamelessly and said to himself, “That’s right, instead of embarrassing himself with an untrained slave, it’s safer to leave the slave here. Being disliked by your master, your existence is meaningless to him. If I were you, I wouldn’t be so shameless as to stay by his side.”

This person was clearly trying to provoke him.

Although he understood that the other party’s motives were impure, each of these almost venomous words pierced Xu Ye’s heart. He bit the leash and knelt silently, his hands hanging on both sides of his body tightly clenched into fists.

“Have you heard how everyone describes you? Just one word—unworthy.” The man shook the cup in his hand and looked at him contemptuously, “Every slave that the Earl brought to the club in the past was the centre of attention, well-mannered, respectful, and courteous. But look at you, cowering and not even daring to lift your head, like a filthy thief caught in the act. It’s laughable.”

His fingernails dug so hard that they were about to pierce the palm, Xu Ye tensed his body and forced himself not to care about those words but found that it was impossible to do so. He suddenly lifted his head, glaring at the man.

“Don’t you understand? The Earl just took you as a slave to pass the time. He would never really like someone like you.” He leaned close to Xu Ye’s ear, and the man lowered his voice and sneered, “I heard he hasn’t even touched you yet. How pathetic.”

Xu Ye was shocked and couldn’t hold it any longer. He tore off the leash from his mouth with his hands and said angrily, “Go away!”

The man curled his lips into a smile, let go of his hand and let the cup fall to the ground with a crisp sound of fragments.

The gazes of the people around them all turned towards them. Even Lion and Pharaoh, who were engaged in conversation nearby, looked over. Xu Ye’s gaze bypassed the crowd and met his master’s eyes. His eyes trembled, carrying a sense of grievance and helplessness.

“An Xia.” Dressed in a black military uniform, Chu Yu walked over slowly, glanced at the broken cup on the ground and the traction rope that fell at Xu Ye’s feet, and said calmly, “What’s wrong?”

“Sir, I just wanted to come to the window to look at the moonlight,” the man who had been so aggressive just moments ago now appeared innocent, stumbling over his words, “I don’t know how I provoked your slave. He yelled at me to get lost, and I was startled and accidentally dropped the glass.”

“You’re the one who’s been provoking me!” Xu Ye was infuriated by the man’s blatant lies, his teeth gritted as he retorted. He turned to look at the man standing in front of him, and his body stiffened. Chu Yu’s eyes seemed to emanate a cold mist that chilled the room to a freezing point. And the person being stared at by those eyes was him. The silent oppressive force engulfed everything, making it difficult for Xu Ye to even breathe. He lowered his head, his clenched hand trembling slightly.

“Sir, I admit that I approached him out of curiosity about your new slave, but I haven’t done anything to provoke him. He’s lying to you. Disregarding decorum, defying orders—someone like him is utterly unworthy of staying by your side.” The man called An Xia knelt down and looked up at Chu Yu, “Master, I’ve been missing you all this time, yearning for the days when you allowed me to accompany you. As long as you agree, I can be an even better replacement for him…”

Xu Ye looked at the man in disbelief; he now understood the man’s intentions. He realized how easily he had been provoked, stepping into the trap set by the man’s words—it was foolish and laughable. He knelt quietly and looked at his master. The obsidian-like eyes shimmered with a faint, delicate glimmer akin to the shattered glass that held a fragile and transparent sadness.

       He silently pleaded for trust.

I did not lie. Please trust me.

At some point, this had ceased to be just a game. He began to be insecure, dependent and began to be afraid of losing. At this moment, Xu Ye felt that he was standing on the edge of the world, swaying in the strong wind. And the man standing in front of him became his only support. As if, when that man let go, he would plummet straight down from a towering cliff, broken to pieces.

Silence spread, and the waiting turned into torment.

When the man’s deep voice sounded in Xu Ye’s ears, Xu Ye couldn’t help but tremble slightly.

“Mr. An, since the contract was terminated, there is no longer a master-slave relationship between us, so you don’t need to kneel before me.” Chu Yu’s words made An Xia’s face turn very ugly in an instant. He thought he would succeed with one move, but he didn’t expect that the other party would reject him so straightforwardly, making him lose face. He bit his lip tightly, stood up, and looked at the man in front of him with resentment.

“According to what you just said, my slave has offended you, is that right?” Second Young Master Chu exuded a certain inherent authority in his words and actions, and the black military uniform added a touch of coldness and sharpness.

An Xia glared at Xu Ye fiercely and raised his chin, saying, “Yes, Mr. Earl. And I think you should teach him a good lesson.”

“First of all, I formally apologize to you.” Chu Yu said unhurriedly, “He belongs to me; regardless of what he has done, I will take full responsibility for all consequences. Secondly, giving him guidance and punishment is my responsibility, and there’s no need for others to bother.” He looked at An Xia with eyes as dark as night and smiled faintly, “Because this minor incident has disturbed everyone’s interest, how about I offer compensation?” After he finished speaking, he spread his right hand.

Xu Ye picked up the leash and handed his hands to him. By now, he had settled down. When his master said the words ‘He belongs to me’, Xu Ye felt as if a certain door was pushed open, and the light that shone from inside made everything bright. He quietly followed Chu Yu onto the small stage in the centre of the arena.

The man untied the leash from his collar and gave his first command, “Take off your coat and get down on your knees.”

Xu Ye obediently followed suit, unfastening the leather belt worn on the outside, taking off the white military uniform, and kneeling in place with his hands behind his back.

“The warm-up program has changed, and next is Earl’s showtime!” Lion took the host’s microphone and announced the scene with enthusiasm. Suddenly, everyone gathered around, staring intently at the two people on the stage. It’s worth noting that the Earl’s personal demonstration of training techniques is a rare occurrence, with very few instances.

As Chu Yu approached Xu Ye, the previously noisy conversations completely quieted down, and the large venue fell silent to the point where you could hear a pin drop.

“Tell me who you are.” The man in uniform raised his fingers, raised Xu Ye’s jaw, and said.

“I am your slave.” Xu Ye, who was wearing a white shirt, looked up at him.

       “Tell me about your rights.”

“All my rights come from your giving.”

       “Tell me about your obligations.”

“To make you happy is the sole purpose of my existence.”

This kind of question and answer was an effective way to strengthen identity recognition and a common way for Dom to train newcomers. Chu Yu looked down from above and said, “Considering that your performance today didn’t please me, I will punish you with a whip next. A total of ten lashes. After each lash, I’ll expect you to state the number and admit your mistake to me. Do you understand?”

Xu Ye tensed his spine and responded softly, “Yes, Master.”

The man removed his gloves and took a soft golden whip from the Pharaoh. After testing the toughness and length, he swung the whip towards the standing mannequin placed on the edge of the stage. He struck and broke its neck with ease, causing the white head to roll onto the ground, revealing a section of the wooden bracket.

Many people let out a gasp of surprise, then hurriedly covered their mouths and quieted down. Being whipped with such force would undoubtedly cause the skin to split and possibly even injure the bones.

“When using a whip, it’s important to fully understand its material and weight in order to control direction, speed, and force. The whip’s softness, hardness, and length affect the ease of manipulation. Usually, the softer and longer the whip, the harder it is to control. Developing a sense of touch requires extensive practice, and mistakes can have serious consequences. Therefore, caution is essential when using a soft whip.”

Chu Yu flicked the whip in his hand as he explained. He visually measured the distance between him and Xu Ye, tried again in the air, and continued, “Sometimes the damage caused by whipping can be very astonishing. Thus, a dom who lacks sufficient skill might limit their striking to areas like the buttocks and the back, which are relatively safer. In order to make the punishment more theatrical, tonight, I will demonstrate frontal whipping.”

Chapter 6 – Replica

Chapter 6: The Beautiful Lady Yu

As winter approached, the weather in Lincheng became very dry. The trees outside the residential area had bare branches, and the fallen leaves covered the ground. The property management had already sent someone to sweep the roads early in the morning. While still half-asleep, the sounds of sweeping outside were already echoing. Tan Xilu was awakened by the noise, and he stared at the ceiling for a while before fully waking up.

Outside, Xu Huaiming had already started preparing breakfast. When the toast was done, he entered the room and called for Tan Xilu to get up.

On weekends when there was no work, Tan Xilu was exceptionally lazy and loved the warmth of his blanket. But every time, Xu Huaiming would ruthlessly pull him out of bed, and today was no exception. Xu Huaiming pulled back the covers, gently rubbed Tan Xilu’s face, and spoke in a soft voice, “Wake up quickly.”

“No,” Tan Xilu grabbed Xu Huaiming’s hand. “I don’t want to move.”

“You don’t have a say,” Xu Huaiming rubbed his nose against Tan Xilu’s face and lightly bit his lips. “Skipping breakfast can lead to various illnesses. Eat first, and then you can stay in bed.”

“The same old routine,” Tan Xilu lazily stretched and, with both hands, hooked around Xu Huaiming’s neck. He clung to him and coquettishly said, “Carry me to brush my teeth.”

“Okay,” Xu Huaiming hugged Tan Xilu tightly around the waist and carried him to the bathroom.

Tan Xilu didn’t even bother putting on shoes; he stepped on Xu Huaiming’s feet. Xu Huaiming squeezed the toothpaste for him and gave his earlobe a pinch. “Brush by yourself.”

“I know.” Tan Xilu put the toothbrush in his mouth.

In the mirror, Xu Huaiming hugged Tan Xilu, resting his chin on his shoulder. His gaze was deeply affectionate, and his eyes were fixed on Tan Xilu. In fact, Tan Xilu found it quite mysterious. The Xu Huaiming from seven years ago wasn’t like this; he was always cautious, as if afraid of being discovered. Even when they went out, he wouldn’t openly hold hands. The most daring thing they did was perhaps sharing a brief kiss in a movie theater. Even at home, they lived like an ordinary couple, kissing and going to bed, but being this affectionate was simply impossible back then.

The Xu Huaiming from seven years ago and the one from now were so different, which made Tan Xilu really wonder what had happened to Xu Huaiming during these seven years. However, every time he broached this topic, Xu Huaiming would skillfully change the subject. Later, Tan Xilu stopped asking. He thought as long as Xu Huaiming was by his side and didn’t disappear, that was enough.

Thinking this, Tan Xilu rinsed his mouth and couldn’t resist giving Xu Huaiming a minty kiss.

Xu Huaiming was indeed a skilled cook, even their regular breakfast had a variety of styles. He cooked lean meat and century egg congee because Tan Xilu liked to have some stir-fried vegetables in the morning. He also prepared stir-fried greens, fried eggs, and toasted bread.

Tan Xilu placed the fried egg between slices of bread, mixed it with a forkful of vegetables, and ate it together. Tan Xilu wasn’t picky about food; he could combine anything and eat it together. His mother used to say that he looked shy and polite, but secretly, he could mix stir-fried shredded potatoes directly into his congee, much like feeding pigs. In other words, he was easy to please.

Halfway through the meal, there was suddenly a commotion outside. It sounded like someone was banging on the door, and there were angry voices, occasionally mixed with female cursing.

Xu Huaiming had just stood up, but Tan Xilu pressed his hand and shook his head, saying, “Don’t get involved. Let’s eat first.”

Xu Huaiming glanced at him and sat back down.

After a while, it became quiet outside, and only then did Tan Xilu put down his spoon and stand up.

He opened the door, and outside, it was a mess. Various fruits and vegetables were scattered on the ground. Lin Xiaozhi was squatting down, picking them up. Lin Changyu leaned against the door. He had initially had his eyes closed, but when he heard the sound of the opposite door opening, he slowly opened his eyes. He looked at Tan Xilu, suddenly laughed, said nothing, and turned back into the house.

Tan Xilu and the behind-him Xu Huaiming exchanged a glance, sighed, and began picking up the fallen items.

There were still many things scattered under the stairs. Lin Xiaozhi ran to pick them up, panting, and then carried them upstairs. His forehead was covered in sweat.

“Thank you, Teacher Tan,” Lin Xiaozhi took the fruits from Tan Xilu’s hand, then looked at Xu Huaiming and said, “And thank you, Uncle Xu.”

Out of the blue, hearing the word “uncle,” Xu Huaiming’s face turned pale, but it brought a smile to Tan Xilu’s lips. “Call me Uncle Xu.”

Seeing Tan Xilu smile, Xu Huaiming didn’t argue with Lin Xiaozhi. He enjoyed seeing Tan Xilu smile. Tan Xilu actually looked quite gentle; his hair was always a bit messy, and even though he was a teacher now, he appeared younger than some of his students. At first glance, one would think he was well-behaved. In fact, he rarely got angry. When Xu Huaiming left the laboratory, he had wondered what it would be like for someone who had lost their lover for seven years to see them again.

His programming told him they might quarrel, they might go crazy, but Tan Xilu didn’t do any of that. It was like he had forgotten everything, just cried for a while. But Xu Huaiming was an intelligent AI, much more sensitive than humans. He could sense Tan Xilu’s emotions very keenly. Tan Xilu was generally not the type to smile much. This was partly because of his compliant personality. He never refused anyone, no matter how troublesome or unpleasant it was, because of social etiquette and obligations. Xu Huaiming didn’t like that about him.

His Tan Xilu should be carefree, argue, be spoiled, like a typical couple.

So, when they were together, Xu Huaiming preferred to be the compliant one.

“Well, I am Uncle Xu,” Xu Huaiming pinched the back of Tan Xilu’s neck.

Tan Xilu was momentarily ticklish and gave Xu Huaiming a sideways glance. He was about to say something when they heard a crashing sound.

Lin Xiaozhi was startled by the noise, but the child quickly reacted and rushed into the house.

Tan Xilu and Xu Huaiming exchanged a tense look and followed him.

Inside the bedroom, Lin Changyu sat on the wet floor, clutching a handful of glass shards. Bright red blood was slowly dripping from his fingers, forming a sharp contrast with the white pills scattered on the ground.

“Bro…ther,” Lin Xiaozhi ran over in panic, trying to pry Lin Changyu’s hand open. “Let go, let go!”

“Get the first aid kit, Xu Huaiming,” Tan Xilu remained calm in this situation.

Cooperating seamlessly, Xu Huaiming turned and went to get the first aid kit.

Lin Changyu seemed slow to react, and it was only after Lin Xiaozhi forcibly opened his hand that he moved.

At first, his impulse was stronger when he clenched the glass shards, but as he regained his senses, the pain intensified. The glass shards embedded in his palm were painful, scattered across the surface but not too deep, stuck in the skin and flesh. But it hurt.

Xu Huaiming quickly brought the first aid kit, and Tan Xilu squatted down, took out a pair of tweezers, and began carefully extracting the glass shards one by one.

At this moment, Lin Changyu behaved unusually compliant, quite different from his usual carefree personality.

Xu Huaiming frowned as he watched Tan Xilu tend to Lin Changyu’s wound, removing the bloody glass shards and disinfecting the area with alcohol. The stinging sensation from the alcohol made Lin Changyu break into a sweat.

Xu Huaiming found humans to be quite strange. He knew that such behavior resembled self-harm, but his impression of Lin Changyu was that of a cheerful gamer who often came over for leftovers and enjoyed a carefree atmosphere. Xu Huaiming never thought he would resort to self-harm. However, upon closer inspection, he noticed that Lin Changyu’s wrists had many fresh scars, indicating recent healing.

It was already ten minutes later when they finished bandaging Lin Changyu’s hand. White bandages were wrapped neatly around his palm, and Tan Xilu tied a knot, saying, “Fortunately, the wounds weren’t too deep. If the glass had penetrated deeper into the flesh, we would have had to go to the hospital.”

“Thank you, Teacher Tan. I’m sorry for troubling you again this time,” Lin Changyu forced a smile, but the pain made it difficult for him to smile genuinely.

“It was quite troublesome,” Tan Xilu sighed. “Once you can completely recover, I won’t have to be bothered anymore.”

Hanging his head, Lin Changyu muttered an apology after a while.

Tan Xilu rubbed his head and said, “You don’t need to apologize to me. Alright, let’s not talk about it anymore. Get some rest.”

With that, he pinched Lin Xiaozhi’s cheek. “Take good care of your brother. If anything happens, come and find me.”

“Thank you, Teacher Tan,” Lin Xiaozhi said.

After leaving Lin Changyu’s home, Tan Xilu helped close their door. When he turned around, he saw the confusion in Xu Huaiming’s eyes. He held Xu Huaiming’s hand and said, “I’ll tell you when we get back.”

The situation with Lin Changyu was actually quite complex. People who had met him couldn’t imagine that such a cheerful young man could suffer from depression. Tan Xilu hadn’t thought so the first time he met him either.

Tan Xilu and Xu Huaiming had rented this apartment together when they first got together. Later, when Xu Huaiming went missing, Tan Xilu bought the apartment directly. In the third year of owning the apartment, a family moved into the unit next door, which had been vacant for a long time.

Tan Xilu wasn’t good at socializing with people, but due to his job, he had to interact with teachers and students every day. When he returned home, he would turn off his phone to avoid outside distractions and enjoy a quiet and solitary environment. However, that day, as soon as he returned home, someone knocked on his door.

“Changyu was holding a basin of strawberries and said to me, ‘Hello, this is the extra strawberries I bought. I can’t store them at home because I don’t have a refrigerator, so I’m giving them to you.’ ” Tan Xilu recalled that time. He thought of Lin Changyu, who used to be so cheerful, wearing red in-ear headphones around his neck, and even had dimples when he smiled. Tan Xilu looked at him and, for a moment, thought of the serious-faced Xu Huaiming when he was in his teens.

Tan Xilu couldn’t remember whether he had eaten those strawberries or put them in the refrigerator and returned them to Lin Changyu the next day. He only remembered that Lin Changyu would occasionally bring fruits, and not long after, Lin Xiaozhi came to live with them.

The two brothers were lively and playful, but this was before that woman arrived.

One day, as Tan Xilu was leaving work, he encountered a woman in a white dress. She was quite attractive with pale lips, but her beauty was no less than that of a TV actress. She wore a pair of high heels but behaved in a manner completely incongruent with her appearance.
