Chapter 30 – It’s hard to escape the Omegaverse trope!

Chapter 30

Qi Shan suddenly came to Y City. Early in the morning, she called Qu Di, and the two of them arranged to meet at a bubble tea shop in the center of Y City. Qi Shan liked bubble tea very much and had a fondness for beautiful cakes, which could be considered her only somewhat Omega-like hobby.

When Qu Di entered, she stood up. They exchanged smiles, and as he approached, Qi Shan gave him a big hug.

Qu Di sat down and remarked, “It’s been a long time since we last met.”

Qi Shan pushed a cup of kumquat lemon tea that she had ordered towards him, saying, “Here, it’s for you.”

He took a sip and indeed, it was from a popular shop with a great taste.

“Do you still remember that I like this one?”

“Of course, I remember. Every time I took you to the little food street behind the university to have bubble tea, no matter how cold it was, you insisted on having it, and even cold.”

Qu Di also enjoyed the taste of kumquat lemon tea, which had a fresh and refreshing flavor. Throughout their four years in college, this was her favorite.

Qi Shan stirred her signature pearl milk tea and got straight to the point, “I came this time not only to see you and relax but also to talk to you about something.”

With a smile, she continued, “You see, I used to work in an entertainment production crew. Later, my dad introduced me to a director who had appeared on our show. We had a meal together, and then… I showed him your previous works from college.”

“Guess what happened?”

Qi Shan didn’t say anything, but by her expression, Qu Di could tell it was good news. He had some guesses about what it might be from what Qi Shan had said.

“I don’t even need to guess, your face says it all.”

Qi Shan playfully nudged him, “Not fun at all. So, when will you work on a new script? I’d like to show it to him. If it really works out, it’s an opportunity, isn’t it?”

Qu Di shook his head, “Thank you, but I’ve already found someone to help me. Right now, I’m focused on writing a script for a stage play. Once it’s done, he’ll help me submit it. I already promised them over there. Sorry for not telling you earlier. As for your side… well, I’ll just have to thank you in advance if I’m not able to find another way.”

Qi Shan didn’t feel disappointed that her good intentions were declined. There was no need for her and Qu Di to discuss these matters. She thought it was best if Qu Di could find his own path.

“Why are we even talking about this? If you need my help later, just ask. That director is quite good, and if he needs my assistance, feel free to let me know. I can talk to him.”

“What about you? How have you been lately?” Both of them had gotten busy after starting their jobs, and except for the incident with Yang Ji that made the news, Qi Shan had only called him the next day, so their communication had been scarce.

Qi Shan chuckled, “Just about the same. It’s common for fresh graduates to be mistreated and bullied. Initially, I used to get upset, but now I’ve come to terms with it. I plan to apply for a transfer once this show is over.”

Qu Di rarely saw Qi Shan so dejected. She looked tired, and even though she had just celebrated her 22nd birthday, she spoke as if she was already thinking about retirement.

Qi Shan used to be one of the more active students in their school, and although not one of the top few, she was enthusiastic about participating in various activities. She used to lead the group in class gatherings and activities, always looking lively and full of energy, as if she didn’t even know the word “tired.”

Suddenly, he realized how lucky he was. He got a job at Tang Yi, a big company, right after graduating. Although being an assistant involved early mornings and late nights, at least Tang Xiyan was a reasonable artist. She was picky but didn’t intentionally make things difficult for him. After that, he met Shu Yi, and he always felt that he had to do better to prove that Shu Yi made the right choice.

He had always been concerned about the opinions of the outside world. Living in his stepfather’s house, he always felt like a dependent. Even if they didn’t pay much attention to him, he still tried to do his best with everything.

Qu Di noticed that Qi Shan didn’t want to talk about these matters, so he didn’t ask further questions. Qi Shan was returning to work the next day, so Qu Di took her to some famous tourist spots. Since Shu Yi had work and wouldn’t be coming home for dinner that night, they decided to go to a well-known Cantonese restaurant in Y City together.

Qu Di hadn’t reserved a private room, so they got a table by the window in the main dining area.

When it came to ordering, Qi Shan was the expert in the duo, so she took on the task. Qu Di didn’t protest.

“White-cut chicken, steamed fresh fish, sweet and sour pork, roasted squab, stir-fried vegetables…”

Qi Shan was about to order more, but Qu Di quickly stopped her. It wasn’t about the cost; it was just that she used to order a lot when they ate out, and it was wasteful for just the two of them.

“Enough, why do you still have this bad habit? Don’t order so much; we can’t finish it all.”

“Ah, I rarely come to Y City, and I don’t know when we’ll meet again…” She gradually adopted a melancholic look and sighed, using her usual trick, which always worked on Qu Di.

“Alright, you can order. If we can’t finish it, I’ll take the leftovers home.”

Hearing the answer she wanted, she smiled brightly, “Hehe, I told you, Little Di, you’re the best. Let’s have some preserved pork with preserved vegetables and a lotus root and spare rib soup as well. That’s it.”

Tang Chaobai had been having a headache recently because his silly little brother had suddenly become sentimental. He constantly talked about relationship problems but refused to disclose any details. He just sighed all the time, looking completely dispirited, and even mentioned wanting to take a leave to go on a trip.

Of course, Tang Chaobai couldn’t agree to that. He considered it a temporary emotional outbreak and insisted on making him continue with his work. Luckily, Tang Xiyan had a good sense of priorities, and his work had been going well, so today, Tang Chaobai planned to take him to a Cantonese restaurant he liked.

Tang Chaobai had been waiting at the entrance for almost an hour when Tang Xiyan, who had just finished a magazine photoshoot, finally arrived. He was bundled up tightly.

Tang Chaobai got out of the car. “Hurry inside; don’t let anyone see you.”

Tang Xiyan seemed to have caught a cold, his voice slightly hoarse. “There’s no one following us on the way here,” he said as he sniffled.

“You’ve had a cold for a week

now; why isn’t it getting better?”

Tang Xiyan adjusted his collar and suppressed the urge to cough. He didn’t want to hear his brother nagging. “I’ve been busy lately, five shoots in a day. I don’t have time to see a doctor. Colds get better on their own.”

He certainly didn’t want to see Yu Zhiyuan, that fish-faced doctor.

Tang Chaobai, of course, knew what kind of person Yu Zhiyuan was. Tang Xiyan was simply too lazy to go to the hospital. “Don’t make excuses. It’s just laziness. Can’t you postpone your shoots for a day? How much time would it take to treat a cold? I’ll have Yu Zhiyuan come over tonight.”

Tang Xiyan sneaked a glance at him and didn’t dare to argue. He only spoke softly, so only he could hear, “Why don’t you respect my opinions? I’m an adult…”

Tang Chaobai suddenly stopped and said in a condescending tone, “The day you don’t cause trouble and don’t need me to solve it is the day you can talk to me about respecting your opinions.”

“…”

Is there no humanity left…?

The two of them had reserved a room, and the dishes had been ordered in advance. They had frequently dined here in the past, so Tang Chaobai knew what his little brother liked to eat.

The server handed Tang Xiyan a pre-written menu, and Tang Xiyan briefly glanced at it before handing it back, saying, “Just these.”

Then he stood up and told Tang Chaobai, “I’m going to the restroom.”

“Sure.”

While the Tang brothers had just sat down, on the other side, Qu Di had finished most of his meal and found there were still plenty of leftovers. He planned to take them home for dinner and supper the next day since Shu Yi hadn’t been coming home lately. It was a way to make do, and it saved him from having to buy groceries.

He requested a few takeaway containers, stood up to pack the leftovers, and that’s when a child ran past, bumping into him and causing him to spill soy sauce from a steamed fish dish all over his clothes. Unfortunately, he was wearing a white T-shirt today, and the spill left a stain and the scent of soy sauce and green onions.

The child immediately disappeared, not even looking back. Qi Shan wanted to chase after and see which child was so inattentive, but Qu Di stopped her.

“Don’t go, kids will be kids. It’s not a big deal.”

Compared to the mild-mannered Qu Di, Qi Shan couldn’t stand such children. It was indeed a minor incident, and an apology would suffice, but these kids who didn’t even look back made her wish she could give them a stern lesson in manners and make them kneel down to apologize.

She frowned and handed him a couple of napkins, saying, “Why do you put up with this? It’s clearly his fault. And your clothes, I don’t know if they can be cleaned.”

Some soy sauce had splashed onto his pants, and he felt his thighs were damp, as if the liquid had run down to his ankles. He quickly headed to the restroom to clean up.

Tang Xiyan sat inside the private room, staring at his phone absentmindedly. The last message left by Qu Di was still the farewell message, and he had read it countless times but still couldn’t muster the courage to contact him first.

He put away his phone and opened the door slowly. To his surprise, he saw a familiar figure, and if it weren’t for the reflection in the mirror, he would have thought he was seeing things. Everyone seemed like Qu Di compared to him.

Qu Di hadn’t noticed the person behind him; he was focused on trying to clean his soiled clothes. He rolled up his pant legs and found that the stains couldn’t be removed, so he intended to go back to the private room to deal with it.

As he turned around, he met Tang Xiyan’s eyes. Tang Xiyan was eating out secretly, like he used to do before. He was wearing layers of clothing, a hat, and had taken off his sunglasses.

Tang Xiyan had been holding back for quite some time, and finally, he managed to say, “Long time no see.”

Qu Di, only then realizing, smiled and asked, “Are you eating out?”

“Yeah.” Tang Xiyan instinctively tugged at his clothes, wondering if he looked okay today… if his hair was too messy.

Thinking like this, Qu Di suddenly approached, reached out to touch his head, and Tang Xiyan’s heart raced. He was almost holding his breath, but Qu Di just lightly patted his hair and withdrew his hand.

“You’ve got some white dust here.”

Tang Xiyan embarrassedly raised his head and patted the spot where Qu Di had touched. “It might be from the photoshoot… There was dust on the set.”

“Last time I went to see you, you weren’t at home. I was planning to treat you to dinner. Thanks for taking care of me during that time.”

Tang Xiyan’s voice was low, “Yeah… I was out, and I got your message later.” In fact, he was at home, hiding and watching Qu Di come and go. He didn’t want to say goodbye to him.

“Why didn’t you reply to me? I thought you were mad at me.”

He was indeed angry, so angry that he couldn’t sleep for several nights, so angry that even a milk tea with whipped cream on top couldn’t cheer him up, and he was always distracted at work.

“I wasn’t. I’m not that petty. It’s just that I was busy with work. The new assistant I hired is doing well, more careful than you, and she handles things properly.”

But I still want to drink the herbal tea and sweet soup you make for me, and the potato chips you locked away in the cabinet, which I didn’t dare eat later, as well as your disciplined daily routine and diet.

Tang Xiyan tried to act like an old friend and said, “Why don’t we meet up another day…”

“Tang Xiyan!”

Tang Chaobai had waited for a long time, and all the food had been served, but Tang Xiyan still hadn’t returned. He was worried that his brother had been stopped by fans or reporters. He went out to look for him but found Tang Xiyan standing near the restroom and talking to someone.

Chapter 30 – Xiao Ling was insulted

Chapter 30

“Yes, you’ve been sleeping for a long time,” Pei Jia gently stroked Tao Yuan’s face.

Si Lan and Haowei watched the scene of intimacy between the two, feeling strangely eerie and shivering.

“Can you tell who’s controlling Tao Yuan’s body now?” Si Lan asked Haowei in a hushed voice.

“Right in front.”

Si Lan looked ahead as instructed and indeed saw a man in a black suit manipulating an invisible puppet before him with eerie finger movements.

Tao Yuan suddenly coughed, his breath frail as a thread, scaring Pei Jia into helping him and gently easing his discomfort.

His body was already delicate, and after “sleeping” for so long, it appeared even more fragile, like a withered branch that might snap at any moment.

Pei Jia carefully held him in his arms. “Tao Yuan, do you feel any discomfort?”

Tao Yuan shook his head. “Pei Lang, I’m fine now.”

Upon hearing this, Pei Jia suddenly stood up, drew his sword, and pointed it directly at Tao Yuan on the bed, the sword’s tip trembling slightly.

“Who are you, really?”

“Pei Lang… I’m Tao Yuan…”

“You’re not Tao Yuan because Tao Yuan never calls me Pei Lang.”

Upon hearing this, the person on the bed stopped pretending, his face no longer showing grief or weakness.

Other cultivators drew their long swords from their waists and confronted the Pei family guards.

“General, this actor is already dead; there’s no way he could be resurrected through magic in this world.” The person on the bed slowly stood up, shattering Pei Jia’s illusions.

Pei Jia couldn’t contain his anger. “Get out of Tao Yuan’s body, or don’t blame me for killing all of you.”

The man burst into laughter. “General, why deceive yourself? When I entered this actor’s body, I could already smell a rotting odor on him, a scent no incense could mask.”

This statement pushed Pei Jia to the edge. Rather than attacking the man, he turned and stabbed a nearby cultivator who couldn’t evade the strike, hitting him in the abdomen.

In the next moment, Pei Jia’s hand gripped the man’s throat, his nails sinking in, a fierce expression on his face. “Get out of Tao Yuan’s body, or don’t blame me for killing your comrades!”

“General…”

“I don’t have the patience to repeat myself a third time!”

Seemingly reluctant, the man cast a spell and left Tao Yuan’s body.

Tao Yuan instantly closed his eyes, falling backward. It looked like his head was about to hit the ground, but Pei Jia immediately rushed to catch him. “Tao Yuan…”

However, at that moment, Tao Yuan in his arms suddenly opened his eyes, and a dagger appeared in his hand, stabbing directly at Pei Jia. Instinctively, Pei Jia leaned back to avoid the attack, but the dagger struck his abdomen.

“General, don’t blame your subordinates for being heartless. It’s because you keep making mistakes!”

Seeing this, Si Lan felt a shock in his heart and quickly cast a spell to rescue Pei Jia from the man’s grasp.

The other cultivators nearby, seeing this turn of events, brandished their swords and advanced towards Si Lan.

Haowei secretly cast a spell that immobilized their movements.

“Why can’t we move?”

“Is it the spirit of that actor causing trouble?” They instinctively placed the blame on Tao Yuan, who had long since passed away.

Si Lan was about to force the man’s spirit out of Tao Yuan’s body when he saw the man take something out of his pocket and swiftly put it in his mouth. In the next instant, Tao Yuan’s body exploded with a loud bang.

Pei Jia stood there in shock, blood pouring from his abdomen, yet he remained unaware, his eyes fixed on the spot where Tao Yuan had just stood.

There was nothing left but a rush of fresh blood.

In that moment, utter despair overwhelmed him. All his hopes and dreams were shattered.

How could this happen?

Tao Yuan had never done anything wrong in his entire life.

Why was the world so cruel to him?

Pei Jia lost his sanity, roaring as he raised his sword and charged at the cultivators. Fortunately, Haowei had noticed his impending madness and immediately used a spell to seal his acupoints.

Pei Jia was rendered motionless, his eyes filled with malice. “Release me, release me! I’ll kill them!”

“General Pei, you’re injured. Please calm down!” Si Lan swiftly pressed on Pei Jia’s abdomen a few times to stop the bleeding.

Pei Jia couldn’t feel any pain at all. At this moment, his mind was consumed with the desire to kill those people, no, to kill everyone.

He suddenly burst into wild laughter, tears mixed with blood rolling down his face. His black jade crown fell off his head, and his jet-black hair turned completely white in an instant.

Pei Jia’s eyes also underwent a transformation, shrouded in black mist, with only a glimpse of blood-red irises visible. His face turned as white as paper, and his lips were as red as blood.

Seeing this, Si Lan furrowed his brow in alarm.

Something was wrong.

Pei Jia was being consumed by dark forces.

Unbeknownst to Pei Jia, tendrils of black mist began to appear around his body, sliding like eels and entering his body. As these currents of dark energy entered him, they instantly unraveled the seals placed on Pei Jia.

After regaining his freedom, Pei Jia immediately swung his sword towards the fake cultivators.

Si Lan quickly used his whip to coil around Pei Jia’s sword, and Pei Jia glared at him. His voice had changed, now sounding sinister, filled with exhaustion and a hint of hoarseness, as if it came from the depths of hell. “Doctor Si, if you try to stop me, don’t blame me for showing no mercy!”

With that, a surge of black mist transformed into a razor-sharp blade and attacked Si Lan’s neck. Haowei swiftly pulled Si Lan away, creating a protective barrier to ward off “Pei Jia’s” subsequent attacks.

“Pei Jia has fallen into darkness!”

Si Lan, realizing that Pei Jia couldn’t be reasoned with, decided to take action. He drew his whip and flew into the air, positioning himself in front of Pei Jia.

Song Cheng and Song Ye, upon seeing this, stood behind Si Lan, swords raised, confronting Pei Jia.

The tension between the two sides was palpable, and a battle seemed imminent when suddenly, in the distance, a melodious tune wafted through the air.

“In the vermilion gates and jade-carved door frames, Pei Lang leans against the wall, sipping from a flower-shaped wineglass. Please tell me, when it comes to love, who is to blame? Loving and hating, he’s a beloved husband…”

Hearing this song, the black mist gradually dissipated from Pei Jia, and his gaze cleared. He dismounted and rushed toward the source of the voice.

The trace of obsession left by Tao Yuan had taken on a phantom form. This nearly transparent illusion stood on a theatrical stage, softly chanting the song.

Pei Jia reached out to embrace Tao Yuan, but his arms went through empty air.

He couldn’t hold onto the phantom.

“Tao Yuan, is this your soul?” Pei Jia stared blankly at the translucent figure, feeling as though his heart had been sliced open multiple times, making it difficult to breathe.

Si Lan hadn’t expected that Pei Jia, who had already fallen into darkness, would regain his sanity upon hearing Tao Yuan’s voice. Only Tao Yuan’s matters could affect Pei Jia.

Si Lan asked Haowei, “Haowei, if we kill Pei Jia, will it break the curse of Da Yang?”

“No, Pei Jia and Da Yang are linked through a sacrificial bond. Even if we kill Pei Jia, it won’t break the curse of Da Yang.”

“In that case, can sealing Da Yang release the curse?”

Si Lan didn’t dare to ask directly if Da Yang could be killed, as even the previous Heavenly Emperor hadn’t killed Da Yang but had instead sealed him away.

Haowei furrowed his brows and shook his head. When he was young, he had seen his father’s work, “Sealing the Demon Incarnate,” in the library. It detailed the method to seal Da Yang but didn’t mention how to break the curse or suggest that sealing Da Yang would automatically dispel the curse.

However, the information on curse-breaking might be found in other books. It seemed like a trip to the library was in order.

While Si Lan could sense a strong presence of dark magic in the General’s residence, he couldn’t detect Da Yang’s aura. If this ancient demon truly lurked within the General’s residence, it would have been teeming with dark energy. So where exactly was Da Yang hiding?

Haowei seemed to guess what was on Si Lan’s mind and said, “The scattered pockets of dark energy in the mortal realm are, in fact, fragments of Da Yang’s body.”

Si Lan was taken aback. Any curse usually had time and space constraints. This Da Yang’s curse had seemingly enveloped the entire mortal realm, but it turned out that Da Yang had torn his own body into countless pieces, scattered throughout the world to complete the curse.

Si Lan was at a loss for words.

The only medium through which Da Yang could be communicated with was Pei Jia. However, Pei Jia’s thoughts were entirely consumed by Tao Yuan, and he was speaking to that invisible obsession.

To make Pei Jia change his mind, they needed to first dispel Tao Yuan’s obsession.

Si Lan approached Tao Yuan’s obsession. Immediately, Pei Jia drew his sword, blocking Si Lan’s way. “What are you trying to do?”

“General Pei, now that Lady Pei’s physical form has dissipated, this obsession won’t linger in the mortal realm for long. Do you want him to leave with regrets?”

Pei Jia maintained a defensive stance.

Si Lan recalled that Tao Yuan had a good relationship with the Twin Masters of Tuo Shan. He continued, “General Pei, when Lady Pei was alive, she once told us that the greatest fortune of her life was having your care during her childhood and her love for you when she was young.”

Pei Jia’s eyes flickered, as if something in those words had struck a chord. “Did she really say that?”

“Yes.”

Pei Jia smiled bitterly. Clearly, his love for Tao Yuan was the greatest misfortune in Tao Yuan’s life. If he hadn’t met Pei Jia, Tao Yuan’s life might have been difficult, but he could have continued living.

He glanced at Tao Yuan’s phantom, which was growing increasingly faint, and the singing voice was fading as well. Would it disappear entirely?

“Tao Yuan, whatever it is that you want, or whoever it is, I’m willing to do it for you…” Pei Jia reached out to touch the phantom’s face, spoke with deep affection, then turned to ask Si Lan, “What should I do now?”

Si Lan extended his hand to touch the obsession, realizing that it was very fragile and couldn’t hold many memories.

He needed to perform the “Return Curse” and go back in time to see what Tao Yuan’s obsession was all about.

“General Pei, during the casting of the ‘Return Curse,’ I need an absolutely safe and quiet environment.”

“Alright.”

Pei Jia didn’t ask too many questions. Perhaps he trusted Si Lan or maybe, in his current state, he had nothing left to lose.

He ordered his servants and soldiers to guard the General’s residence from all directions, forbidding anyone from disturbing them. He stood guard outside the room himself.

Inside the room, Si Lan felt uneasy. He considered having Haowei and the Song brothers maintain the protective formation.

The Song brothers readily agreed, but Haowei, with a grim expression, neither consented nor refused.

“Your Majesty, does casting the ‘Return Curse’ cause any harm?” Song Cheng inquired with a furrowed brow.

Si Lan chuckled, “No, I know my limits.”

In truth, he didn’t have a clear grasp of his limits. Casting the “Purification Curse” once had cost him three layers of his cultivation. The “Return Curse” was likely to be equally taxing.

The last time, Jiuying’s aura dissipated after using the “Return Curse.”

Song Cheng was about to ask more questions when Song Ye interjected, “Big Brother, the way he’s fussing is just like His Majesty’s Lady. But alas, our Majesty is not someone to be tamed.”

“…,” Si Lan.

Song Cheng’s gaze turned sharp, shooting a look at Song Ye, who pursed his lips and turned away, crossing his arms and adopting a fearless expression.

“Your Majesty, he has always been outspoken. Please don’t take it to heart,” Song Cheng said.

Si Lan responded with a simple “Hmm,” and set up a protective barrier around the room.

He closed his eyes, bowed his head, and interlaced his ten fingers in front of his chest. He silently recited an incantation. In the next moment, he found himself standing between the gears of the Six Paths Reincarnation, with 333 gears spinning rapidly.

Then, a multitude of white light spilled from between the gears, obscuring his vision.

When he opened his eyes again, Si Lan found himself in an unfamiliar place. All around him was a vast desert, with billowing sandstorms obscuring the sky.

Behind him, a shadowy figure followed him.

Si Lan turned around in surprise to see that it was Haowei.

“Chong Wei, why are you here in this illusion?” Si Lan asked.

“I don’t know,” came the faint reply from within the hood.

“…”

Si Lan had a sense of déjà vu. Every time he entered an illusion, there was always a follower.

Before, it was a little follower, and now it was a big one.

“Listen, men,” a group of men’s voices in the distance played out, accompanied by the eerie sound of the wind and sand. It was like a devil’s incantation.

“The lead actor, this little performer, his mouth is small, but his cheeks are fairer than a woman’s.”

“I wonder if he’s as fair in the back?”

“Hahaha…”

The men’s conversation grew increasingly lewd, intermingled with faint sobs and pleas for help.

Si Lan and Haowei immediately followed the sounds and saw a group of men in crude linen clothing, wearing gray head covers, huddled in a circle, laughing and teasing each other.

A slender and fair ankle poked out from among them.

“Tsk, tsk, truly a famous actor, such fair skin, truly to be pitied!”

“Do you know how men do it with other men?”

“I heard they use the rear!”

“Disgusting, isn’t that very dirty?”

“You don’t understand, a few rounds with that mouth and it’ll be clean…”

The conversation of those men grew increasingly shameless. Si Lan, hearing it, couldn’t help but blush, and he unconsciously looked at Haowei beside him.

With a hood covering his face, it was impossible to discern any reaction from Haowei.

“Enough, I can’t wait any longer. We don’t need the filthy details!”

“Hahaha…” The men laughed uproariously.

Si Lan clenched his fist, his body hovering in the air, and he gazed at the young performer surrounded by those ruffians. After getting a clear look at the person’s face, his expression slightly froze.

It was indeed Tao Yuan.

Tao Yuan’s clothes were torn, and he shielded a group of younger actors with his hand, even though his own face was red, he still extended his hand to protect those younger performers.

“Brother Yuan, should we…”

“Don’t be afraid; I’ll protect all of you.” Tao Yuan’s voice quivered with determination, as if he had made a decision in his heart. He pursed his lips and, after a moment, took off the tattered cloth hanging from his shoulder, addressing those rowdy bandits, “These young ones are probably too delicate to handle, gentlemen. It’s better to let me take care of you.”

Hearing this, the men’s throats moved, and they chuckled.

“Haha, since the little beauty is so eager, we won’t be polite…”

The leader of the men grabbed Tao Yuan’s clothing and pulled him into a tent, and a few other bold men followed suit, joking that they wanted to be the groom.

Si Lan clenched his fists and, floating in mid-air, he looked towards the group of black-armored soldiers who had ambushed the area.

Hurry!

If they delayed any longer, things might take a turn for the worse!

Si Lan was so anxious that he wished he could snatch a sword from the soldiers and slash the tent open to rescue Tao Yuan.

Fortunately, the soldiers didn’t waste any time either. They moved in for an attack on the bandits. Most of the bandits outside the tent couldn’t react in time and were killed instantly.

A small group of them attempted to resist, passing on the message to those inside the tent.

“Boss, run! There are soldiers…”

“Soldiers? What soldiers?”

One bandit lifted the tent flap and was about to speak, but his words were cut short by a sword.

The one who struck him down was Pei Jia.

Pei Jia’s face was splattered with the bandit’s blood, but he remained expressionless. He lifted the tent flap, entered the tent, and a moment later, the sound of a scuffle, followed by the bandit leader’s pleas for mercy, could be heard. Yet, the last sound was eventually drowned out by the snapping of bones.

Si Lan finally breathed a sigh of relief. He murmured, “Thank goodness we saved him.”

This was likely the first time Tao Yuan and Pei Jia had seen each other after many years apart. After all these years, would their feelings still be as pure as they once were?

Haowei glanced at Si Lan and remembered how Si Lan had wanted to draw his sword and kill the bandits earlier. He couldn’t help but remark, “You seem to invest quite a lot of genuine emotions.” They were just spectators, and no matter how urgent they felt, it wouldn’t change anything.

Si Lan chuckled and said, “I’m a person with strong empathy.”

Haowei remained noncommittal.

Within the illusion, Pei Jia removed his clothes and dr4p3d them over Tao Yuan. He held Tao Yuan and walked out of the tent.

Tao Yuan’s face was pale, but his eyes shone brightly, and he couldn’t take his eyes off Pei Jia’s side profile. The tenderness in his eyes seemed as if it could melt into tears.

Pei Jia patted Tao Yuan’s shoulder and said, “I’ll go take care of some business and be back later.”

Tao Yuan finally released him, but his gaze still followed Pei Jia as he walked away. Then, a faint smile appeared on his face.

Si Lan looked at the Tao Yuan in front of him, who had grown even more dazzling and alluring than eight years ago, with skin almost translucent. He gave off a fragile, delicate aura, making Si Lan want to protect him.

This lively Tao Yuan, compared to the one who had been bedridden and turned into a living corpse, was like two different people.

The thought of their inevitable ending filled Si Lan with mixed emotions.

His empathy resurfaced once again.

“It seems that at this point, Pei Jia doesn’t seem to like Tao Yuan very much, while Tao Yuan is the one who’s deeply entangled.”

Haowei nodded.

Si Lan cleared his throat and said rather pensively, “I’ve read many love stories between generals and actors in books, and none of them have had a good ending.”

Haowei looked at him, unsure why he had brought this up all of a sudden.

“Do you think love with a significant class difference can have a good ending?” Si Lan asked this question, and as he did, he suddenly looked at Haowei.

Haowei fell silent, his life had never been troubled by such a question, and no one had ever bothered him with it.

“In the Demon Realm, despite being free-spirited, there are many unspoken rules that still shape people’s beliefs. For example, a chicken, cough, is not as good as a phoenix.”

“…”

So that’s what it all boiled down to.

Haowei spoke gently, “Comparing things in such a manner is a self-inflicted torture.”

Si Lan was at a loss for words, feeling that Haowei’s words didn’t strike him, and he didn’t know the pain. Over these thousand years, he had eaten so much hardship and suffered so much injustice in his quest to perform as a divine phoenix.

He had quietly promoted the idea of equality between demons and spirits in the Demon Realm, but it had little effect. The demons in the Demon Realm still only recognized birth and cultivation, and the elderly and frail demon beings were seen as food or trash.

“Do your sects adhere to these hierarchical rules? Do they have issues related to social standing?” Si Lan inquired of Haowei.

Haowei gazed intently and slowly replied, “Not mine.”

“Oh.” Si Lan’s lips curled slightly.

Inside the illusion, time had silently progressed into the deep night. After Pei Jia had finished his business, he thought of Tao Yuan and went to check on him. Tao Yuan had just fallen asleep, but when he heard the sound of the curtain being lifted, he woke up instantly, his eyes filled with fear as he looked outside.

Pei Jia felt that he had scared Tao Yuan, and he wanted to step forward to explain but also felt like leaving, caught in a dilemma.

When Tao Yuan recognized him, he immediately got out of bed without shoes and rushed into Pei Jia’s arms.

The joy of reuniting after such a long separation finally revealed itself at this moment.

The countless reunions in his dreams had finally come true. The missing piece in his heart had finally become whole.

Tao Yuan couldn’t help but choke up. So much had happened over these years, and there were so many things he wanted to tell Pei Jia, but he couldn’t find the words. So, he could only sob softly, like a child, his voice trembling with each sob.

Pei Jia’s hand hung in the air, and after a moment of hesitation, he gently placed it on Tao Yuan’s back, giving him soothing pats.

“Don’t be afraid; those bandits have been eradicated.”

Si Lan shook his head. He hadn’t expected Pei Jia, who had grown up, to be so unromantic. Tao Yuan wasn’t crying because of the bandits right now; it was because of him. At this moment, Pei Jia should have just embraced Tao Yuan and confessed his feelings, not stood there like a piece of wood.

It seemed that as he grew older, Pei Jia had forgotten how to be charming.

Perhaps these years in the military had changed Pei Jia’s character.

Chapter 90 – I’m guessing he will not marry you

Chapter 90 – I’m guessing he will not marry you

After a simple visit, we didn’t enter the school.

Lu Shifeng said to Jian Luo, “Don’t go to crowded places.”

Jian Luo asked with a soulful inquiry, “Why?”

“To avoid trouble,” Lu Shifeng stood by Jian Luo’s side. “It will be easier for you to adapt to the environment once you return.”

Jian Luo felt dizzy and didn’t understand much. In the end, he only grasped the phrase about adapting to the environment. The rest didn’t really faze him. Well, that part about adapting did shake him. Recalling the hardships of morning sickness, he instantly became obedient.

The leader said, “Basically, our entire city is like this.”

Jian Luo looked at the empty spaces. “Aren’t these areas being utilized?”

After all, the protective shield wasn’t that large. If these spaces were left empty, it would indeed be wasteful, wouldn’t it?

The leader explained, “These areas are reserved as artillery positions for defense against external enemies. The forest over there is not very safe, and during winter, there may be wild beast attacks. Without proper preparation, it can be dangerous.”

Speaking of which, the leader looked at Jian Luo meaningfully, a hint of irony appearing on his dark face. “You guys probably don’t need to worry.”

“…”

Jian Luo was speechless. If you really thought about it, you couldn’t deny the leader’s words. Compared to these concerns, their lives might be better here. Not to mention that even in the Dark Star, they were considered refugees. But there, they only had to endure discrimination, not life-threatening danger.

Jian Luo furrowed his brows. “How long does winter last?”

The leader answered, “Two months.”

It was coming soon. Jian Luo sighed inwardly. Land beside him said, “Had enough sightseeing?”

“Okay.”

“Rest for a while.” Lu Shifeng led Jian Luo to a nearby pavilion. “Don’t stand for too long.”

Jian Luo obediently sat in the pavilion. If he didn’t rest, he didn’t feel much different. But once he sat down, he felt a bit thirsty and licked his lips, struggling to endure.

Lu Shifeng said, “Do you want some water?”

Jian Luo was surprised. “You know that too?”

Lu Shifeng didn’t explain much, just took a water bottle from the storage space of his information bracelet and handed it to Jian Luo.

“You carried water with you.”

“It’s not like everyone is as empty-handed as you when they disembark from a warship.”

“…”

Jian Luo took a few sips of water and then offered it to Lu Shifeng. “Are you thirsty?”

The cup was handed to Lu Shifeng’s face. If his secretary were here right now, she would surely be astonished because Lu Shifeng’s level of fussiness was quite terrifying, not to mention using a cup that someone else had already drunk from.

But Jian Luo didn’t notice this peculiar detail at the moment and continued to hold the cup.

Lu Shifeng’s gaze fell on Jian Luo’s hand. There was a trace of scrutiny in his dark eyes. After a moment of silence, just when Jian Luo started feeling a bit strange, he raised his head. He saw Lu Shifeng coincidentally taking the cup from his hand and taking a sip of water.

Though it wasn’t a particularly ambiguous action, Lu Shifeng didn’t make any suggestive gestures. However, as Jian Luo continued watching, he suddenly felt uneasy.

“Cough…” Jian Luo lightly coughed and then turned to the leader not far away. “Actually, I have a question.”

The leader quickly said, “What is it?”

Jian Luo asked curiously, “How do you handle illnesses here? I mean, when you get sick.”

This question wasn’t out of place, and the leader relaxed a bit upon hearing it. He answered, “We have doctors. For serious illnesses, we rely on imported alien medicines. For less serious ones, we have military doctors who use our own medicines.”

Jian Luo’s eyes lit up. “Can I go and see?”

The leader nodded.

Jian Luo looked at Lu Shifeng. “Are you coming?”

Lu Shifeng furrowed his brows and looked Jian Luo up and down. “Are you sick?”

Jian Luo justified himself, “No, I just want to see if I can contribute to medical care.”

“…”

Lu Shifeng’s blood-red eyes quietly stared at Jian Luo, making him feel somewhat embarrassed.

“What do you mean?” Jian Luo became irritated.

Lu Shifeng withdrew his gaze and calmly said, “Your courage is commendable.”

“…”

You arrogant dog! Just wait!

Accompanied by the leader, Jian Luo visited the doctor in the city. He roughly understood the local procedures. Their indigenous medicines were made from herbs, and although Earth’s herbs had gone through thousands of years, their medicinal properties hadn’t changed. The so-called imported alien medicines were probably nutrient solutions.

Jian Luo contemplated for a while. “What’s the likelihood of getting sick here?”

The doctor, aware that he was dealing with an important guest, responded politely, “Fifty percent. During bad weather, people may experience headaches and fever, but it usually occurs in children. Adults here generally don’t get sick easily.”

Jian Luo nodded as if he understood.

If he thought about it his way, the birth rate and disease rate here had probably gone through natural selection.

After touring the place, Jian Luo’s mind was filled with various plans. If they really entrusted Earth to him, how could he maximize their benefits with his existing abilities? If they had to, they would definitely need to take a commercial route. He kept looking for the location of the food factory. Now, if he looked at it, establishing the food factory here within the protected area would be a good idea.

But there were also significant issues. The average education level here was quite low, and with the constant threat of wild beast attacks, establishing a food factory seemed too risky.

Thinking about this, Jian Luo sat down in a chair and asked the doctor, “If wild beasts attack during the winter here, how serious is the situation?”

The doctor put down his pen and replied, “In general, during the winter, hungry wild beasts become more aggressive. Our leader led us to excavate an underground city some years ago, and all our food reserves are stored there. We stop hunting during the winter, and some continue to produce energy stones to maintain the protective shield.”

Jian Luo asked, “Are there casualties?”

“Definitely,” the doctor nodded. “The mines where we produce energy stones are hot and enclosed. Normally, wild beasts don’t dare to approach, so the number of deaths is not too high.”

Jian Luo pondered.

So, the biggest problems now were solving two things. First, the issue of Earth’s magnetic field. If they didn’t need energy stones to maintain it directly, it would save a lot of effort and resources. Second, dealing with these mutants. Even if they wanted to build a factory, they needed to ensure the cleanliness and safety of the food.

The doctor said, “Mr. Jian, if you don’t mind me being forward, I’d like to ask a question.”

Jian Luo snapped back to attention. “Go ahead.”

“What’s your relationship with that marshal?” The doctor pushed up his glasses and quickly added, “I don’t mean to be intrusive, but I couldn’t help but wonder since you two seem… close.”

Jian Luo paused and didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he asked, “What do you think?”

This question stumped the doctor. However, seeing that Jian Luo was straightforward and not concealing anything, he said honestly, “You’re pregnant, I assume? You’re carrying his child?”

Jian Luo raised an eyebrow.

“But you two probably aren’t married, right?” The doctor smiled and added, “I guess the Dark Star doesn’t marry people like you, especially someone of his high status.”

Jian Luo pursed his lips, sat back in the chair, and propped his chin with one hand. “You’re right.”

The doctor cleared his throat nervously.

Jian Luo didn’t feel embarrassed. He knew very well what he was and what he wasn’t. Even though he had some feelings for Lu Shifeng, it didn’t mean he had to marry someone of that caliber. They would all have to part ways eventually; there was no need to get sentimental over trivial matters.

Jian Luo looked at the doctor and noticed that he also had a wristband. “Want to become friends?”

The doctor was momentarily surprised but nodded. “Sure.”

They added each other as friends, and Jian Luo stood up. “Well, I should be going.”

“Wait!” The doctor stood up too.

Jian Luo paused and turned to look at him.

“Um, you…” The doctor hesitated and then pursed his lips, finally saying, “Will the Dark Star invade us?”

Jian Luo raised an eyebrow. Though he was not very tall compared to the Earth’s standards, he appeared quite refined here. But paradoxically, it was this unassuming appearance that seemed to exude an invisible pressure. It almost scared the doctor to the point of losing his composure.

The doctor’s heart raced with nervousness.

Jian Luo smiled wryly. “Speculation won’t do any good.”

After saying this, he left.

In the remaining few days, Jian Luo began to study the base’s layout carefully. As a member of the same species, he didn’t encounter much resistance here, and some even welcomed him warmly.

Jian Luo took many photos and collected samples of various herbs. Rushing things would not be wise; after all, the Earth was not in danger at the moment. They had enough time to plan how to utilize this planet.

Finally, the day to leave arrived.

Compared to before, this time Jian Luo had someone to see him off. Lu Shifeng lowered his head and said something to the leader, while Jian Luo explained things to Aya.

Jian Luo said, “We’ve added each other as friends. Remember to keep in touch with me.”

Aya nodded.

“If you believe me, try to persuade your husband. Cooperation with the Dark Star is beneficial and harmless. To avoid being engulfed, you must first protect yourselves and then seek external development. Rejecting everything foreign will only lead to decline.” Jian Luo patted Aya’s hand. “Tasteless resistance will only bring sorrow.”

Aya’s eyes welled up with tears. She said, “Luoluo…”

Jian Luo asked, “Yes?”

“Did you also have to compromise and sacrifice yourself?” Aya lowered her voice, her tone somewhat tearful. “You’ve suffered too much.”

Jian Luo hurriedly shook his head. “No, I didn’t.”

Aya scrutinized Jian Luo for a moment, as if trying to confirm the truth of his words. Finally, she reached into her pocket and handed something to Jian Luo. “In that case, take this. From what I’ve observed these past few days, your relationship doesn’t seem very harmonious. Take matters into your own hands.”

“…?”

Chapter 7 – Mirror

The sky outside hadn’t completely darkened, but it was getting darker. The lights were on in the lab, and the surroundings were clear. However, in this environment, Song Jun still felt scared.

He locked himself in this small lab, not knowing what to do.

The thick security door of the lab cut off the sound of footsteps in the corridor outside. He didn’t know if anyone was outside or if that person was human. He was not in the mood to look at the experimental results on the computer. He was just thinking about what he should do to get out of this place.

But after leaving here, where would it be safe to go? Even in the dormitory, didn’t that strange thing come to harass him?

He was sure that he was haunted by that female ghost, or in the words he heard Feng Junyuan say today, he was marked. But why him? He had never encountered these things since he was a child until he had graduated college. Everything had only happened since he came to study here. Was it an issue with him, or was there a problem with this university?

Song Jun leaned against the window, feeling the remaining warmth of the setting sun outside, but his body was still unable to warm up. He gradually slid down until he knelt on the ground; his mind was filled with nothing but panic and confusion.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the heavy security door.

Song Jun was surprised at first, but then he became hopeful. He was thinking that maybe other people in the lab would come over to do experiments after dinner. He held out hope and asked, “Who is it?”

       But got no response.

Song Jun stood up, hesitating whether to go over.

The knock on the door sounded again. This time it was a continuous and stereotyped sound, one after another, with precise intervals like a machine.

Song Jun asked who it was but never got a response.

He finally plucked up the courage and walked towards the door, slowly probing his head towards the peephole on the door.

Through the peephole, Song Jun saw the situation in the corridor. There was indeed someone outside, a woman wearing a white dress. She stood outside the door with her back to the lab.

The figure was identical to the one Song Jun had seen when he opened the door to the elevator just a moment ago.

The woman’s back was facing the door, but she stretched out her hand backwards in a strange posture and then made a sharp sound on the door with her sharp nails.

       The sound tormented Song Jun.

Immediately after, he realised that the woman was turning around and she was trying to turn her head around.

Song Jun’s first reaction was to move away, but it was as if his feet were frozen, and he couldn’t move at all.

Seeing that the woman was about to turn her head, Song Jun gasped for air, cold sweat dripping from his forehead.

At that moment, a massive dark shadow flashed before Song Jun’s eyes. The figure was so large that, in the next instant, it completely blocked the entire range visible through the peephole, leaving total darkness in front of Song Jun’s eyes.

The woman disappeared. Song Jun’s legs weakened, and he sat on the ground. He found that he could move again.

At this moment, Song Jun wiped the cold sweat from his forehead. His mind remained blank, unable to react. He didn’t know if he had narrowly escaped a disaster, and if he had indeed escaped, should he drop out and leave this eerie place?

Just when he didn’t know what to do, the knock on the door rang again.

Song Jun’s whole body tensed up, and then he heard a calm voice, “Song Jun, it’s me.”

       It was Xia Hongshen’s voice.

Song Jun quickly stood up and went to the peephole to take a look. Sure enough, he saw Xia Hongshen standing outside the door. He immediately breathed a sigh of relief, but at the same time, he became nervous, fearing that it might be a trick played by the female ghost outside the door to trick him.

However, Xia Hongshen then said, “Don’t be afraid, just open the door.”

Song Jun put his hand on the door lock and hesitated for a long time before opening the door.

There was only Xia Hongshen outside, and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Not far away, the door leading to the elevator was still open, and Song Jun could clearly see the light coming through.

There was nothing left, and everything returned to normal.

Song Jun hastily saved the experimental data on the computer, then packed up and left the Forensic Medicine building with Xia Hongshen.

He didn’t say anything the whole way. When Xia Hongshen walked downstairs, he said to him, “Please drink some water.”

Song Jun did not refuse. He went to the canteen with Xia Hongshen and asked the boss for a can of beer. He opened the lid of the can and took a few sips. Then he wiped the corners of his mouth with the back of his hand, panting slightly.

Xia Hongshen sat opposite him and looked at him.

Song Jun felt the cold beer sliding down his digestive tract and said to Xia Hongshen, “Senior, I seem to be haunted by a ghost. I’m going to die.”

As he spoke, he scratched his cheek with his fingers, remembering the scratches he had seen before.

Xia Hongshen said in his usual calm tone, “It will be okay.”

Song Jun said, “Really, if it weren’t for you suddenly showing up just now…” At this point, Song Jun took another big gulp of beer. He felt a bit uneasy, a sense of exhaustion after being severely frightened, leaving him emotionally low.

He began to think about some things in the past. He felt that his whole life was going well. He finally got into the school of his choice, but then he had to encounter such unthinkable things.

Song Jun raised his hands to cover his face and said, “I’m so scared. I want to drop out of school.”

Suddenly a hand was pressed on the top of his head, and Xia Hongshen’s voice rang out, saying, “Don’t be afraid. It won’t happen again in the future.”

Song Jun said, “It will be. Someone told me I was marked. He must have seen the female ghost haunting me.”

Hearing this, Xia Hongshen asked, “Who told you?”

Song Jun still had his face covered with his hands. He thought for a moment and said, “I saw that person last night. The one with the surname Feng.”

Xia Hongshen didn’t say anything. He raised his hand to call the owner, brought over a few cans of beer, and then asked Song Jun to relax and drink more.

Song Jun just drank to drown his sorrows and drank all the beer Xia Hongshen ordered. With an average alcohol tolerance and the burden of his thoughts, he ended up getting thoroughly drunk. When he saw a girl wearing a white dress and red shoes passing by, he shouted not to come over. As a result, he was shouted as a lunatic by the passerby.

Seeing that Song Jun was almost drunk, Xia Hongshen came over and helped him up with one hand, supporting him to walk towards the dormitory.

Song Jun staggered, and it was all thanks to Xia Hongshen’s support that he didn’t fall to the ground. As he walked, he kept talking to Xia Hongshen. He talked about his own experiences from childhood to adulthood. If these things happened when he was sober, he would definitely refuse to say it.

Xia Hongshen helped him back to the dormitory room, put him on his bed, and wiped his face with a wet towel.

Song Jun soon fell into a deep sleep, unaware of anything.

Xia Hongshen was still sitting in front of the computer surfing the internet until he saw that the time had reached three o’clock in the morning. He took off his glasses, rubbed the corners of his eyes and stood up.

He walked to the bed and gently touched Song Jun’s forehead. Seeing that he was sleeping peacefully, he stood up straight and walked out of the room.

Xia Hongshen left his room, slowly went downstairs, and then walked out of the old dormitory building.

It was late at night at school, and no one could be seen. He walked all the way to the Faculty of Pharmacy building and stood in front of the gate on the first floor.

The door had been locked, and the administrator had already fallen into a deep sleep.

Xia Hongshen put his hand on the door lock and waited quietly for a moment. Then, the door lock opened on its own.

The whole Faculty of Pharmacy building was dark, and the elevator had stopped.

Xia Hongshen didn’t stop and walked toward the stairwell on the right. In a dark environment, some moonlight and lights from outside can still shine through in the corridor, but the stairwell was sealed, and nothing could be seen.

Despite this, Xia Hongshen didn’t hesitate at all. He walked up the stairs and stopped at the corner between the first and second floors.

However, at this time, Xia Hongshen heard footsteps coming upstairs.

He paused and continued walking upstairs.

On the fifth floor, Xia Hongshen pushed the door from the stairwell to the corridor. There was a person in front of him, a woman wearing a white dress and red high heels, walking slowly forward. The footsteps were made by her, tap, tap, tap, tap, slowly echoing throughout the corridor.

Every night, she walked tirelessly inside this building, floor by floor. When she reached the fourteenth floor, she would jump from the window. In the early morning of the next day, she continued to get up from where she fell on the ground and repeated the process.

Until Xia Hongshen appeared in front of her.

Initially oblivious, she intended to pass through Xia Hongshen’s body and continue walking forward. However, Xia Hongshen’s hand, with fingers pressed against her forehead, emitted a slightly warm breath that she could feel.

Her blank brain began to move slowly. She stopped, looked at Xia Hongshen, and talked to someone for the first time after her death, “Who are you?”

Xia Hongshen retracted his hand and said to her, “My name is Xia Hongshen, a doctoral student in Forensic Medicine pathology.”

She heard Xia Hongshen say this, so she introduced herself, “My name is Tian Xin, a third-year pharmacology graduate student.”

After speaking, she asked Xia Hongshen, “Why are you here?”

Xia Hongshen did not answer her but asked, “Why are you here?”

Tian Xin was a little confused. She thought about it seriously, and then her eyes widened in shock. She said, “I caught my boyfriend cheating. I said, believe it or not, I’m going to die. He then said just go ahead. I will go to the top floor and jump off the building.”

Xia Hongshen looked at her and said, “Then what?”

“Then?” Tian Xin was thinking, “Then I really jumped.”

Xia Hongshen said calmly, “Yes, so you are dead.”

Tian Xin’s face turned from blank to full of horror, “I’m dead?”

Xia Hongshen told her, “You jumped from the 14th floor and died. You are just a ghost now.”

Tian Xin suddenly trembled violently all over, “I’m dead?! I’m a ghost now?”

Xia Hongshen’s tone sounded completely emotionless, “Your soul is bound to this place. Every night you walk from the first floor to the fourteenth floor, repeating the process of jumping off the building, unable to free yourself.”

Tian Xin raised her hands to cover her face, “I—”

Xia Hongshen said, “This is your own choice, giving up your life so easily for a man.”

Tian Xin started to cry. She was very sad, her body was trembling, and she kept sobbing, but she couldn’t shed a single tear. She hugged her chest, curled into a ball, and squatted down.

Xia Hongshen looked at her expressionlessly, showing no sadness or sympathy.

Tian Xin suddenly said, “No! I don’t want to commit suicide. I was confused! It’s that, it’s the mirror!”

“Mirror.” Xia Hongshen repeated in a low voice.

“It started out as a rumour from the Faculty of Pharmacy. I heard them talking about an ancient mirror in the college that can show you what you want to see. I didn’t believe it at first, but one night during a power outage, I went down the stairs on the right and saw that mirror at the corner leading from the second floor to the first floor. I had always suspected that my boyfriend was cheating on me, and at that time, I was in a bad mood. So, I asked the mirror, ‘Can you show me if my boyfriend is really cheating?’ In the end, I saw him in the mirror having sex with another woman.”

Tian Xin said these words slowly while walking downstairs with Xia Hongshen.

“I felt so distressed. I received too many negative emotions from that mirror. I became anxious and sensitive, completely unlike myself. Later, I had a fight with my boyfriend. I told him that if he continued to associate himself with that woman, I would show him me ending my life. To my surprise, he said go ahead. I was in so much pain and wanted to make him regret it, so that night, I jumped alone from the fourteenth floor. I didn’t want to! It was like I was under some kind of spell, and it all started because of that mirror!”

Tian Xin stretched out her hand and pointed at the full-length mirror standing quietly at the corner of the stairs.

The two of them had reached the second floor. If they walked further, they could stand in front of the mirror.

Even though Tian Xin couldn’t breathe anymore, she couldn’t hide her emotions. She really thought the mirror was confusing her.

Xia Hongshen slowly walked down the stairs and approached the mirror. When he reached it, he touched the cold mirror surface with his fingers and said to Tian Xin, “It’s not that this mirror is bewitching you. It’s the thing attached to the mirror that is bewitching you.”

“The thing attached? What is that?” Tian Xin asked.

Xia Hongshen’s fingers moved slowly, and a faint light appeared in the dark environment, slowly illuminating the surrounding outline.

Tian Xin looked at the mirror and found that she was like a shimmering mist in the mirror with Xia Hongshen next to her—she opened her eyes wide in surprise and looked at Xia Hongshen.

“This mirror is originally a spiritual object. The spiritual energy promotes the growth and nurturing of all things, making it susceptible to the influence of demons and spirits. Before this, the mirror was only inhabited by a female ghost. The scenes you saw were nothing more than illusions created by the female ghost. However, you were easily manipulated by her, losing control of your mind.”

Tian Xin raised her hand and put it on her chest. She said, “What about the female ghost now?”

Xia Hongshen tilted his head slightly, his jawline was elegant and smooth, and he said, “Eaten by me.”

Chapter 0 – Prologue

You walk alone and depressed, bearing countless scars as you walk on that long road full of thorns.

Lost in desire, wandering in embarrassment.

Indulged in deception and believed in illusions.

One day, I will wear a crown on my head, be clothed in beautiful clothes, and hold glory in my hands.

Until one day, with a crown on your head, adorned in splendour, holding the glory in your hands.

Who will be there to make you, walking under the dazzling lights, involuntarily turn around and look back?

Notes:
Hey hey~
I’m back with volume 2~~
Volume 2 is somewhat longer than volume 1, and it focuses more on Marvin. He’s not as much of a green flag than Chu Yu, so well… I’ll try to tl it as much as I can but no promises as I still have couple of series I need to release once a week 😀
Also coz basically I have 2 raws that have different chapter numbering… I gotta… do some recheck…
Look forward to it~
