Chapter 103 – Who Says Omegas Can’t be as Explosive as Alphas

Chapter 103

When the lower grades were immersed in the intense suffering of exam week, the seniors in their final year, facing graduation, appeared much more relaxed.

In fact, Bing Yunlin had wanted to implement the agreed-upon blind date arrangements long ago. However, Wen Ye, being involved in multiple roles, was entangled in various school affairs upon his return.

With Wen Ye’s meticulous nature in everything he does, he had to ensure that each matter was dealt with one by one to feel at ease.

The two of them busily worked for nearly half a month before finally settling down temporarily.

When asked for suggestions on the blind date venue, Wen Ye thought for a moment and simply said, “It’s up to you.”

In the end, Bing Yunlin chose a small asteroid nearby. It wasn’t overly prosperous, but it was picturesque enough.

The dining place was by a large seaside. Looking through the clean glass of the French window, the coastline extended to the end of the field of vision, seemingly endless.

On the day of the blind date, Bing Yunlin wore a white suit, a color that suited him well, accentuating his entire features to be even softer.

Perhaps due to the pleasant mood, a faint layer of sunlight seemed to envelop his expression, making the restaurant’s landlady unable to help but want to smile whenever she saw him.

At the appointed time, a tall figure appeared in Bing Yunlin’s field of vision. Even he, who was usually calm and composed, couldn’t help but feel his heart beat slightly faster.

Unexpectedly, Wen Ye had dressed up carefully today as well.

Although it seemed not much different from his usual attire, Bing Yunlin still noticed the meticulously combed hair, tidier and neater than ever.

His eyes couldn’t help but soften, and his smile became even gentler.

This was the man he liked, always standing in the most dazzling position, occasionally influencing his entire mood with a casual gesture.

Wen Ye had actually seen Bing Yunlin waiting for him at the door long ago. Although his face remained calm, deep down, he was not as calm as he appeared.

Since Bing Yunlin’s confession, although neither of them mentioned it again, he always felt a subtle atmosphere between them.

Strangely enough, he didn’t find this subtle feeling unpleasant.

Maybe it was because he and Bing Yunlin had known each other for too long, so long that he seemed to have completely accustomed to the feeling of having someone accompany him in everything.

Like a shadow, or a beam of light, or more accurately, it had become an indispensable part of his life.

Wen Ye couldn’t deny that he was indeed somewhat unable to imagine the days after Bing Yunlin disappeared from his side.

However, he was an Alpha, and Bing Yunlin was also an Alpha.

Although Alpha-Alpha relationships were not uncommon in military academies, Wen Ye had never thought about it before.

“Here?” Bing Yunlin’s attitude was quite natural. After entering the private room with Wen Ye, he casually took off his coat and hung it on the side. Pulling out a chair for him to sit down, he slightly raised his slender eyebrows, “I spent a long time choosing this restaurant, I hope you like it.”

Although it was a very ordinary tone, it sounded somewhat ambiguous to Wen Ye’s ears. He couldn’t help but pause for a moment before saying, “It’s good.”

Bing Yunlin had already ordered in advance, and the landlady soon brought the dishes to the table one after another.

Wen Ye just glanced at them, and his expression between his eyebrows swayed slightly.

Since childhood, his lifelong goal had been to become an excellent soldier, and he was not picky about food.

After all, there were many times during missions where he had to endure harsh conditions, and being too particular about food would eventually lead to starving oneself.

However, even though he never showed any preferences, Bing Yunlin still accurately seized his dining preferences.

The table was filled with dishes he liked.

Bing Yunlin noticed Wen Ye’s rare distraction and couldn’t help but laugh, asking knowingly, “What’s wrong? Don’t you like the dishes I ordered?”

Wen Ye looked up at him, as if wanting to say something, but in the end, he remained silent.

Bing Yunlin sensed his restraint, smiled gently, poured a glass of red wine for him, and raised his own wine glass in front of him, “Enjoy your meal.”

“Thank you.”

Wen Ye also picked up the wine glass, lightly clinked it with him, and took a small sip.

The red wine rolled slightly in his throat, and Bing Yunlin placed the wine glass back on the table. Slowly, he spoke, “Since today is a blind date, let’s follow the process, shall we?”

Wen Ye had no objections to this.

He was inherently a person who followed rules, and processes, to some extent, provided him with a sense of stability in areas where he wasn’t proficient.

Bing Yunlin watched him with a gentle smile, as if well-prepared. In a soft tone, he said, “I’m Bing Yunlin, a senior at the Imperial Navy Academy, and I’ll officially join the Third Corps for service next year. My favorite color is blue. I usually like to drink tea, and my pheromone level is S-class. I enjoy the taste of lemon black tea. I don’t have any special hobbies; I just like being a perpetual assistant to someone named Wen Ye. I prefer straightforward, rigid, but dedicated types. The ideal type for a future partner is the same. If possible, their nickname should be ‘Ah Ye,’ then it would be perfect.”

At first, it seemed normal, but as Wen Ye listened to the end, his spine subtly straightened. Although his face still maintained that expressionless look, Bing Yunlin was too familiar with him. Beneath this serious facade, Bing Yunlin saw a hint of shyness.

This made him feel somewhat curious. Unable to resist, he looked at Wen Ye a bit more before smiling and casually reminding, “I’ve finished. So, following the process, isn’t it your turn now?”

Wen Ye’s expression became more serious for a moment. While pondering, he said, “Wen Ye, a senior at the Imperial Navy Academy, will also join the Third Corps for service. Likes black, S-class, and…”

At this point, he fell silent for a long time. Finally, as if making a decision, he said, “Although not entirely certain, perhaps I can consider liking an Alpha named Bing Yunlin.”

Bing Yunlin had been listening to him with a smiling face, looking quite interested. He was also curious about how Wen Ye, a veteran, would present their situation.

This expression continued until he heard the last sentence.

In that moment, his thoughts slightly froze.

Like you, give it a try.

Wen Ye’s choice of words was still very precise, fully expressing the intended meaning. However, to Bing Yunlin’s ears, the two words “give it a try” already sounded like the most pleasant words of love.

Over these recent times, Bing Yunlin knew that Wen Ye had actually considered their situation for a long time privately. Now, he finally heard the result after careful consideration.

Wen Ye would never use the approach of half-hearted rejection. Since he decided to give it a try, it meant he had decided to let him into that small world.

The initially soft gaze turned into a pool of spring water in an instant, and the smile completely blended into his eyes.

Bing Yunlin’s eyes shifted, and the corners of his mouth distinctly curled up.

In the joyous atmosphere, the tenderness in the words became even more difficult to conceal.

Following Wen Ye’s words, he lightly responded, “Well, since it’s a blind date, it’s necessary to go through this process of getting to know each other.”

Saying this, Bing Yunlin stood up, reached out his hand to Wen Ye, and seriously said, “So, let’s have a pleasant courtship, my prospective fiancé.”

Listening to Bing Yunlin so naturally establishing his fiancé status, Wen Ye couldn’t help but chuckle at this opportunistic move.

However, despite sometimes blandly grumbling about this person, Wen Ye seemed to have no way to deal with Bing Yunlin.

It seemed that he had been eaten up completely, and Wen Ye, for some reason, only realized this belatedly.

At this moment, he shook his head with a hint of helplessness, and with a faint smile at the corner of his mouth, he also stood up and gently shook the hand that Bing Yunlin extended towards him, saying, “Well, let’s have a pleasant relationship.”

Chapter 102 – Who Says Omegas Can’t be as Explosive as Alphas

Chapter 102

After returning to school, everyone submitted the championship prizes they won in the bounty tournament. This made Bing Cang very happy, and he specifically gave them two extra days off to rest.

Upon hearing that there was no need to rush to class, Lu Jingning’s eyes lit up, and he went straight back to the dormitory and slept like there was no tomorrow.

In stark contrast, Yan Hebin, after returning to school, went to his own classroom for classes that same afternoon. After classes, he stayed in the library until late at night before returning to the dormitory.

These two days were the same routine. At this point, Lu Jingning had already entered dreamland, watching the figure walking into the dormitory without a care in the world. He yawned and turned to find a comfortable position to sleep again.

Scholars are scholars, and the joy of scholars is something ordinary people like them can never understand. When Lu Jingning comfortably slept for two days, he finally appeared in the classroom again.

After this bounty tournament, his already high popularity within the school skyrocketed once again. If in the past, many senior students only heard his name, now he was an absolute focus wherever he went.

Fortunately, this situation didn’t seem so severe within his own class. After all, they were classmates who knew each other well, and people didn’t dare to approach and watch. However, the gazes between him and Wen Xingchen unavoidably carried a strong sense of gossip.

Jiang Luan, as an insider and the behind-the-scenes promoter of the CP gossip building, couldn’t be too obvious in front of Wen Xingchen. Seeing Lu Jingning appear, he immediately approached, wearing an attitude of hiding his talents and biding his time.

Lu Jingning, feeling dizzy from being shaken by him, couldn’t help but pull him over and ask, “Jiang Luan, what’s wrong with you? Haven’t seen you for a few days, and you’ve developed hyperactivity in children?”

Jiang Luan’s expression almost couldn’t hold back, and his mouth twitched involuntarily. “Don’t you have something to say to me?”

Lu Jingning stared at him for a moment, then pointed to the hair standing on top of his head. “Did you roll in your bed yesterday? The hair on your head is all standing up.”

Jiang Luan quickly reached out and pressed down on the unruly hairstyle. “Damn!”

Wen Xingchen had already heard their conversation. He leaned in, patted Jiang Luan lightly, and said, “Alright, benefactor, consider this my favor to you.”

Jiang Luan finally felt satisfied. “Remember it well!”

Lu Jingning looked at him as he walked away humming a tune and then turned to Wen Xingchen, asking, “What’s going on?”

Wen Xingchen casually pulled a nearby chair and said, “Nothing much, just helped out once in a while. It’s inevitable to feel a bit inflated.”

Lu Jingning suddenly understood and didn’t say anything more. He walked over and sat down naturally.

He took out his unused backpack, flipped through it, and then froze in place. Wen Xingchen looked over, “What’s wrong?”

Lu Jingning cleared his throat. “Uh, what class do we have today?”

Wen Xingchen smiled, and after being stared at by Lu Jingning, quickly replied, “Aerokinesis.”

Finishing his words, he casually handed his own book to Lu Jingning. “If you didn’t bring yours, use mine.”

Lu Jingning hesitated for a moment and came up with a compromise. “How about we read it together?”

For Wen Xingchen, the content of these courses could be understood without textbooks. However, his words circled around his mouth and finally turned into a somewhat ambiguous smile. “Sure.”

Sharing one book inevitably brought them closer, and they could even feel each other’s breath faintly. The professor was earnestly explaining the course content on the podium, but Wen Xingchen seemed a bit absent-minded, unusually distracted.

Lu Jingning, who always got drowsy in class, couldn’t change his habit. Unconsciously, he had already fallen asleep with his arms as a pillow.

His long eyelashes drooped, and at such a close distance, Wen Xingchen could see the faint trembling arc. Compared to his usual bold and unrestrained appearance, there was a unique charm.

Wen Xingchen’s gaze slid across Lu Jingning’s eyebrows, then the nose, and finally, the collarbone revealed in the slightly open shirt. His eyes stopped there silently, without moving away.

Jiang Luan couldn’t remember when he had become accustomed to sitting alone in the front row. As he turned around to borrow some materials, he happened to see Wen Xingchen, who was blatantly… well, affectionately gazing at Lu Jingning. The words he was about to say got stuck in his throat as he choked.

Seems like sensing an external gaze intruding, Wen Xingchen felt his territory was being violated. His eyelashes trembled slightly, and he looked up with a calm expression. Jiang Luan couldn’t help but shiver under such a gaze, hastily gesturing a “please continue” motion, and with an unprecedentedly quick reaction, turned back.

Perhaps because Wen Xingchen’s previous look was too threatening, it took Jiang Luan a while for his heartbeat to slowly calm down. After that, a sense of grievance couldn’t help but curse in his heart. Damn! Wen Xingchen, this guy, is really something. After being brothers for so many years, he still can’t compete with Lu Jingning, the new love? Insane, heartless, and forgetful of friendship!

It seemed he had to end this single period quickly and find a new target. After all, this forcibly declared territory feeling was too damn uncomfortable!

Lu Jingning woke up right on time when the class bell rang, and in a daze, received a resentful look from Jiang Luan. Without waiting for him to speak, Lu Jingning left, leaving only a determined figure.

He opened his mouth, unable to resist asking Wen Xingchen beside him, “What’s wrong with him?”

Wen Xingchen: “Menopause, maybe.”

Lu Jingning: “Oh…”

That explanation seemed acceptable.

Lu Jingning stretched, and as his gaze wandered around, he exclaimed, “What’s going on? Today, Lao Wang surprisingly didn’t give us homework after class.”

“We’re done with all classes after this week, so why assign homework?” Wen Xingchen packed up his things, giving him a strange look. “Have you been sleeping too much recently and got drowsy? After this week, all classes for this semester will be over, and we can prepare for the holiday after the next exam week.”

Lu Jingning’s stretching motion paused in mid-air, and he stiffly turned his head to look, “It’s… the final exams already?”

He tried to recall his study achievements in this semester, but his mind remained blank. With one thing after another happening, having fun and forgetting about the insane existence of final exams, now he could only say, “How am I going to pass this? I’m screwed!”

Lu Jingning fell silent for a moment, then said heavily, “Lu Ge is dead. In case of any problem, burn some prayer papers for myself…”

Wen Xingchen looked at the expression like it was the end of the world and couldn’t help but laugh, ruffling his hair. “Don’t worry, after this week, there are no classes. I’ll help you review. You won’t have to retake anything; I guarantee you’ll pass.”

Lu Jingning opened his arms and sincerely hugged him, “Wen Ge, reborn parents!”

Wen Xingchen’s smile at the corner of his mouth deepened, “Isn’t this title a bit messy?”

Jiang Luan, in a fit of pique, walked out and waited outside for half a day without seeing the two catching up. At this time, he walked back with a disgruntled face.

As soon as he entered, he witnessed this scene that disgraced scholarly manners. He couldn’t help but cover his eyes with his hand and looked through two fingers, asking, “Two of you, hugging so comfortably, still planning to eat?”

“Eat, eat, eat!” Lu Jingning swung his backpack, propped on the table, and jumped out from a pile of desks, displaying a heroic posture. “Haven’t eaten in the school cafeteria for a long time, kind of miss it.”

Following behind, Wen Xingchen carried it, not too light or heavy, and said indifferently, “Listening to you, it seems like it.”

Jiang Luan: “…”

Damn, he actually thought of getting some benefits from these two? How naive!

Just as he was thinking, he saw Wen Xingchen in front suddenly reach out and pull Lu Jingning into his arms. His eyes slightly lowered, and with a smile that was neither a smile nor a laugh, he asked, “By the way, since I helped you review, should you thank me?”

A glint flashed in Lu Jingning’s eyes, and he raised the corners of his mouth, kissing him lightly on the face. “Thanks, Wen Ge!”

Jiang Luan: “……….”

Forget it, it doesn’t matter what to eat; after all, they’re already full.

The last week of the freshman year quickly came to an end.

Wen Xingchen fulfilled his promise. Taking advantage of the week of buffer time before the exam week, he grabbed Lu Jingning and entered the rhythm of devilish review.

In order to better catch the key points for Lu Jingning, who was a professional sleeper in class, he had already listed all the exam contents that needed attention in advance, evidently putting in a lot of effort.

Anyway, the goal of the final exam was not to get a high score. They only needed to pass and get the credits, avoiding retaking the course.

The targeted tutoring proved to be effective, and at least halfway through, Lu Jingning was no longer in a state of “it recognizes me, but I don’t recognize it” while looking at the questions. Of course, this rapid progress was not only due to Lu Jingning’s determined efforts but also closely related to Wen Xingchen’s irreplicable “teaching method.”

In a certain self-study room, two slender figures sat cuddled up in a corner.

Wen Xingchen held Lu Jingning’s hand, calmly gesturing, “Look, if I use my current strength to push you backward, you need to use pheromones to counteract the force. If you exert the force you used just now, the result would be…”

Suddenly, he leaned backward, and with Lu Jingning in a state of complete relaxation, he softly fell into his arms. The familiar scent surrounded them.

Wen Xingchen continued with a light laugh, “The result is that the balance will be completely disrupted. So, now you know which one to choose, right?”

Lu Jingning realized, “Choose option C!”

Wen Xingchen lowered his head, gently rubbing against Lu Jingning’s head with his jaw, “Hmm, our Ah Ning is indeed smart.”

Despite the fact that the two of them shamelessly engaged in public displays of affection, Lu Jingning, for some reason, felt a bit embarrassed when the voice brushed past his ear at this moment.

He subconsciously tried to wriggle out of Wen Xingchen’s embrace but felt a strong pull that tightened the hold.

Lu Jingning whispered, “Let go…”

Wen Xingchen replied, “Not letting go.”

Lu Jingning’s heartbeat, initially a bit erratic, strangely calmed down after hearing this. Then he smiled, “Wen Ge, this doesn’t seem like your style, does it?”

This time, Wen Xingchen remained silent.

After Lu Jingning finished speaking, he realized that he unintentionally gave the other some room to maneuver. In the atmosphere on the verge of eruption, he attempted to break free from Wen Xingchen’s embrace.

However, his view suddenly shifted, and he found himself pressed against the table.

Wen Xingchen leaned down gently, pressing on him. He lifted Lu Jingning’s chin with one hand, his eyelashes drooping slightly, and asked with a smile that was neither a smile nor a laugh, “So, does it resemble more of my style now?”

Lu Jingning: “…”

He could feel the Alpha’s breath enveloping him. His throat tightened involuntarily, and he reached out to stop the approaching body. Unable to resist, he reminded, “This is a classroom.”

Wen Xingchen turned his gaze towards the direction of the surveillance cameras, casually saying, “Hmm, I know.”

Lu Jingning: “……….”

As the breath of the other approached, his eyes closed instinctively.

However, the chaotic and messy scenes he imagined in his mind didn’t happen.

Wen Xingchen just lightly kissed his forehead, and then, as if nothing had happened, he let him go.

When Lu Jingning opened his eyes, he was still a bit dazed. Only when he saw the teasing smile on Wen Xingchen’s face did he realize that he had been played.

“What are you expecting, Ah Ning?”

Lu Jingning rolled up his sleeves and was about to explode.

Wen Xingchen’s deep eyes suddenly softened, “Ah Ning, how about we get engaged?”

Lu Jingning’s heartbeat unexpectedly paused for a moment. After a brief moment of blankness, his mind started working again.

After a while, he murmured, “I don’t have any problems, but… you need to settle things with Lao Lu first.”

Wen Xingchen: “After the break, I’ll visit him.”

Chapter 101 – Who Says Omegas Can’t be as Explosive as Alphas

Chapter 101

Lu Jingning found it challenging to engage in a confrontation with someone for the first time. No matter the angle he tried to attack from, Wen Xingchen seemed to anticipate it as if he could predict it in advance, swiftly formulating corresponding countermeasures. Similarly, when Wen Xingchen made a move, Lu Jingning almost instinctively responded, easily handling each move.

It could only be said that being too familiar with each other might not be such a good thing. For example, in their attempt to fight now, they found it difficult to really engage. However, the rare exchange of mobile numbers kept Lu Jingning on the edge of excitement, trying one tactic after another.

Hey, it’s quite interesting! The audience watched in awe as a variety of clever moves unfolded. Setting aside the feeling of being choked by dog food, it had to be admitted that the seamless duel between these two was a visual delight.

Commentator Brother Bean analyzed enthusiastically in the live broadcast room: “Everyone can see that both of them are indeed evenly matched. Although we don’t know why they chose not to use pheromones, from the current situation, whether it’s Lu Jingning or Wen Xingchen, their mastery of Qi usage has reached an extreme. We must admit that the two appearing on the finals stage today truly represent the highest level of this league. However, who will ultimately claim the title of champion is still something we need to eagerly anticipate!”

The barrage in the live chat rolled rapidly as if injected with adrenaline. Everyone was excitedly cheering, indulging in dog food and passionately supporting their favorites.

Although Lu Jingning gained more fans during the league with a series of impressive moves, Wen Xingchen’s fans still shouted their slogans loudly, creating a fierce competition in terms of momentum.

In the blink of an eye, the intensity on the field reached a fever pitch, even causing the officials in the tournament committee to nervously sweat.

One hour later, the tension escalated once again. Two hours later, the situation on the field intensified. Three hours later… both the audience inside and outside the venue rubbed their tired eyes.

The duration of this match was a bit too long; their throats were hoarse, and no matter how much water they drank, they felt a bit exhausted.

Yet, the two participants in the finals, Lu Jingning and Wen Xingchen, continued each move with remarkable vigor. Such enduring stamina! It was enduring to the point that it became challenging for people to bear.

They knelt to the two “dads” on stage. Commentator Brother Bean put down a bottle of energy drink, watching the two figures passionately fighting on the field, tears almost streaming down his face.

He could feel that his professional career had once again encountered an insurmountable bottleneck. The longest individual match he had encountered before was only 40 minutes. Now, he had used all his expertise, and he was at a loss for words except for “keep it up.”

However, the two on the field continued to excitedly probe each other, continuously emitting the intertwined waves of their deep affection to everyone.

Bean was speechless and choked up, only able to cast a pleading look towards the committee’s viewing platform.

Oh my god! If this endless competition continued, he might actually die on this commentary stage! Someone, please come and take charge!

If Bean had sufficient vision, he might see that the people on the committee’s viewing platform all had serious expressions on their faces.

This match had gone on for too long, far exceeding their official expected time by nearly tenfold. Even if it was close to the match point, the problem was that the two on the field seemed to be thoroughly enjoying themselves. After almost an afternoon, they showed no signs of fatigue. Their faces were full of excitement, as if the match had just begun.

The organizers’ leaders had long lost focus. At this point, they couldn’t remember how many times they had checked the time on the terminal. In their minds, they thought, it should be ending soon; it should be ending soon. After all, this intense endurance battle couldn’t possibly continue into the night, right?

Yet, they underestimated the strength of the two on the field. As night fell, these officials, one by one, wished they could go back and give themselves a few big slaps.

Damn it, served us right! Finally, the chairman of the committee couldn’t sit still anymore. He stood up abruptly, gathered all the officials, and headed straight to the reception room for an emergency meeting.

The departure of the committee members didn’t attract much attention from the audience.

At this moment, the thoughts of the audience had shifted from the excited “Oh my god, they are both so strong, a perfect combination made in heaven” to the more practical “Damn, why hasn’t it ended yet? Can we get a result already? I’m starving, I just want to go home!”

Inside the arena, Lu Jingning was oblivious to the strong complaints coming from various quarters. Up until now, he had tried 1001 attacking methods and successfully countered 998 intricate attacks from Wen Xingchen.

As the momentum of the long whip changed, he skillfully altered his approach, aiming for the blind spot below Wen Xingchen’s waist. Unfortunately, Wen Xingchen, with a faint glance, instantly grasped the intention and effortlessly evaded once again.

Lu Jingning clicked his tongue lightly, but his eyes lit up, “Wen ge, you’re so good at dodging. Try this move!”

Saying that, he once again assumed a stance. Wen Xingchen smiled faintly, “Sure.”

As the long whip approached, the lights around the holographic arena suddenly dimmed. The referee’s excited voice interrupted their focused sparring, “The organizing committee has decided to temporarily suspend the match. Both of you, please exit the virtual cabin.”

Lu Jingning: “???”

He exchanged a puzzled look with Wen Xingchen. Although they were not done, upon hearing the referee’s words, they both reluctantly stepped out of the virtual arena.

Back in reality, Lu Jingning realized that the entire sky outside had completely darkened. Glancing around, besides the brilliant lights, only the scattered starlight seeped in through the windows.

Before he could reflect on the fleeting passage of time, a group of people suddenly rushed in, surrounding him and guiding him towards the backstage. Lu Jingning was caught off guard by this sudden commotion. When he regained his senses, he found himself in a reception room, accompanied by Wen Xingchen.

The people in the reception room were all dressed in formal attire, suggesting some level of significance. Among them, he even saw his older brother, Lu Jiyuan.

Lu Jingning instantly understood; these were probably people from the organizing committee. However, why did they interrupt the match and bring them here?

The middle-aged man at the forefront was the chairman of the organizing committee. Clearing his throat, he spoke with a complex expression, “To be frank, the battle between the two of you has taken far longer than we expected. It’s evident that even if it continues, it will be challenging to determine a winner in a short time. Considering this highly unusual situation, we’ve held an emergency meeting, and we have a proposal. We would like to hear your opinions.”

After a moment of hesitation, he continued, “We wonder if… the idea of declaring a tie, having co-champions, is acceptable to both of you?”

This decision was truly a last resort. The league needed to produce a champion, but allowing the two to continue might lead to an indefinitely prolonged match. Considering the significant expenses incurred during the live broadcast, the audience’s viewing experience, and the overall impression of the event, the organizing committee, after intense discussions, reluctantly made this decision.

They could already imagine the backlash once the results were announced; there would likely be a storm of criticism. However, what other choice did they have? They were also distressed about it!

Lu Jingning didn’t expect the situation to take such a dramatic turn. He couldn’t help but laugh and blinked, “So, you mean, co-champions?”

“From the current analysis of various data, your strengths are evenly matched. Even if the match continues, it’s unlikely a result will be determined in a short time. Therefore, we made this proposal. Of course, the co-champion title is just a label; the final reward remains the same. If both of you are dissatisfied…”

The chairman paused, feeling a bit uncomfortable, took a deep breath, and said, “You can return to the arena now. We respect your choice.”

“It doesn’t matter about the prize…” Lu Jingning, who hadn’t felt much after the virtual arena, now felt the exhaustion from the intense battle. His stomach even made a growling sound involuntarily.

He casually stretched his muscles, not in a hurry to answer. He looked towards Lu Jiyuan, suggesting with a meaningful gaze, “I just want to ask Consultant Mr. Lu, if it’s co-champions, does it count as winning the ‘champion’?”

“… “

Lu Jiyuan remained silent for a while before expressionlessly responding, “Agreed.”

Lu Jingning turned to look at Wen Xingchen, “What do you think, Brother Wen?”

Wen Xingchen smiled faintly, “I’ll go with whatever you decide.”

Lu Jingning grinned and shook the chairman of the organizing committee’s hand sincerely, “We don’t want to cause trouble for the organizers. Co-champions it is, we’ll follow the committee’s decision!”

Just after the intense match, Lu Jingning hadn’t controlled his strength well, and the chairman felt a “click” in his hand, but the relief made him show a contented smile, “Thank you for your cooperation.”

The announcement of the organizing committee undoubtedly dropped a bomb, leaving the audience bewildered.

Co-champions? Who knew the Bounty League could be played like this?!

However, the thought of letting the two return to the arena and continue the seemingly endless match made everyone suddenly feel suffocated.

Forget it, this kind of match is just too unbearable; it’s better to end it early for relief!

So, after a momentary uproar upon hearing the news, the audience finally quieted down.

On the commentary desk, Brother Bean, almost trembling with joy, with the help of the staff, descended the stairs, “Quick, take me to the hospital… I… am a bit short of oxygen…”

The host quickly took over his duties.

A podium rose in the center of the arena, and the award ceremony proceeded almost seamlessly.

Lu Jingning and Wen Xingchen stood side by side in the center of the stage, blinded by the flashing lights from reporters. Lu Jingning couldn’t help but squint, remembering something, and asked, “Brother Wen, what about our bet from earlier, with the tie and all?”

Wen Xingchen replied, “Of course, we both win.”

Lu Jingning blinked, a smile playing on his face. His gaze silently brushed over Wen Xingchen’s lips, “Oh? So, you mean…”

Wen Xingchen’s eyes flickered. Suddenly, he reached out, pulled Lu Jingning towards him, and without avoiding it, they entwined their hands around each other, and then he lifted his head, deeply kissing him.

According to the result of the bet, theoretically, Lu Jingning owed Wen Xingchen a kiss, and Wen Xingchen owed him a kiss. So, combining them resulted in a shared, passionate kiss. The logic was perfect, without any flaws.

After a moment of awkward silence, the whole venue erupted into cheers. The unexpected display of affection from the two champions on stage left the audience nearly blinded by the sudden flash of emotions.

Following the abrupt silence, screams echoed as if fireworks were going off.

“Ah ah ah ah, luckily, I held on until the end!”

“This is the ultimate benefit of live broadcasting!!!”

“Champions of the league, so high! AWSL!!!”

“I can accept this. The ability runs in the family; let it be.”

“Although it’s a bit theatrical, right now, I just want to say, thanks to the organizing committee, sincere thanks!”

“The final dog food of the Cenjing CP, I recorded it!”

At this point, who was stronger no longer mattered. Under this harmonious scene of life, everyone felt completely fulfilled!

Under the stage, Wen Ye, watching this overly extravagant display, as an older brother, couldn’t help but frown slightly, “Too ostentatious.”

As soon as he finished speaking, his companion, Bing Yunlin, sighed softly, “I think it’s not bad. After all, they are young; it’s good.”

Wen Ye said with a hint of disapproval, “You spoil them too much.”

Bing Yunlin glanced at Wen Ye’s excessively serious expression, gently patted his shoulder, and said, “Don’t mind them. About our bet, what do you think?”

Wen Ye reminded, “But now, they are both champions.”

The implication was clear: since it was a tie, there was no winner or loser in the bet.

Bing Yunlin obviously did not agree with this interpretation and corrected in a calm tone, “You should say, this ending represents that we both won.”

Wen Ye furrowed his brows and fell into silence for a moment, “But it seems I don’t have anyone to introduce to you.”

“You don’t need to worry about that; I’ve already thought about it for you.” Bing Yunlin chuckled softly, speaking unhurriedly, “In a few days, you arrange yourself for a blind date with me, and I’ll arrange myself for a blind date with you. We can sit down together and have a good meal. How about that?”

Wen Ye, unusually stunned, raised his head in surprise, locking eyes with Bing Yunlin’s tender gaze, “You…”

“I’m not joking.” Bing Yunlin sighed lightly, “After all this time, haven’t you noticed?”

His demeanor, in this moment, was somewhat different from usual, as if he had removed a long-worn mask, leaving only a trace of sincerity.

He said, “A Ye, I like you.”

Amidst the bustling surroundings, these words seemed to possess a unique magic, isolating the noise. Each word fell clearly into Wen Ye’s ears.

He opened his mouth but, for the first time, hesitated, unsure of what to say.

Bing Yunlin, observing his reaction, simply smiled and said, “No need to rush to answer me. We haven’t even gone on the blind date yet. We can take things slow when the time comes.”

Wen Ye’s eyelashes drooped slightly, and finally, he softly responded, “Alright…”

Chapter 30 – It’s hard to escape the Omegaverse trope!

Chapter 30

Qi Shan suddenly came to Y City. Early in the morning, she called Qu Di, and the two of them arranged to meet at a bubble tea shop in the center of Y City. Qi Shan liked bubble tea very much and had a fondness for beautiful cakes, which could be considered her only somewhat Omega-like hobby.

When Qu Di entered, she stood up. They exchanged smiles, and as he approached, Qi Shan gave him a big hug.

Qu Di sat down and remarked, “It’s been a long time since we last met.”

Qi Shan pushed a cup of kumquat lemon tea that she had ordered towards him, saying, “Here, it’s for you.”

He took a sip and indeed, it was from a popular shop with a great taste.

“Do you still remember that I like this one?”

“Of course, I remember. Every time I took you to the little food street behind the university to have bubble tea, no matter how cold it was, you insisted on having it, and even cold.”

Qu Di also enjoyed the taste of kumquat lemon tea, which had a fresh and refreshing flavor. Throughout their four years in college, this was her favorite.

Qi Shan stirred her signature pearl milk tea and got straight to the point, “I came this time not only to see you and relax but also to talk to you about something.”

With a smile, she continued, “You see, I used to work in an entertainment production crew. Later, my dad introduced me to a director who had appeared on our show. We had a meal together, and then… I showed him your previous works from college.”

“Guess what happened?”

Qi Shan didn’t say anything, but by her expression, Qu Di could tell it was good news. He had some guesses about what it might be from what Qi Shan had said.

“I don’t even need to guess, your face says it all.”

Qi Shan playfully nudged him, “Not fun at all. So, when will you work on a new script? I’d like to show it to him. If it really works out, it’s an opportunity, isn’t it?”

Qu Di shook his head, “Thank you, but I’ve already found someone to help me. Right now, I’m focused on writing a script for a stage play. Once it’s done, he’ll help me submit it. I already promised them over there. Sorry for not telling you earlier. As for your side… well, I’ll just have to thank you in advance if I’m not able to find another way.”

Qi Shan didn’t feel disappointed that her good intentions were declined. There was no need for her and Qu Di to discuss these matters. She thought it was best if Qu Di could find his own path.

“Why are we even talking about this? If you need my help later, just ask. That director is quite good, and if he needs my assistance, feel free to let me know. I can talk to him.”

“What about you? How have you been lately?” Both of them had gotten busy after starting their jobs, and except for the incident with Yang Ji that made the news, Qi Shan had only called him the next day, so their communication had been scarce.

Qi Shan chuckled, “Just about the same. It’s common for fresh graduates to be mistreated and bullied. Initially, I used to get upset, but now I’ve come to terms with it. I plan to apply for a transfer once this show is over.”

Qu Di rarely saw Qi Shan so dejected. She looked tired, and even though she had just celebrated her 22nd birthday, she spoke as if she was already thinking about retirement.

Qi Shan used to be one of the more active students in their school, and although not one of the top few, she was enthusiastic about participating in various activities. She used to lead the group in class gatherings and activities, always looking lively and full of energy, as if she didn’t even know the word “tired.”

Suddenly, he realized how lucky he was. He got a job at Tang Yi, a big company, right after graduating. Although being an assistant involved early mornings and late nights, at least Tang Xiyan was a reasonable artist. She was picky but didn’t intentionally make things difficult for him. After that, he met Shu Yi, and he always felt that he had to do better to prove that Shu Yi made the right choice.

He had always been concerned about the opinions of the outside world. Living in his stepfather’s house, he always felt like a dependent. Even if they didn’t pay much attention to him, he still tried to do his best with everything.

Qu Di noticed that Qi Shan didn’t want to talk about these matters, so he didn’t ask further questions. Qi Shan was returning to work the next day, so Qu Di took her to some famous tourist spots. Since Shu Yi had work and wouldn’t be coming home for dinner that night, they decided to go to a well-known Cantonese restaurant in Y City together.

Qu Di hadn’t reserved a private room, so they got a table by the window in the main dining area.

When it came to ordering, Qi Shan was the expert in the duo, so she took on the task. Qu Di didn’t protest.

“White-cut chicken, steamed fresh fish, sweet and sour pork, roasted squab, stir-fried vegetables…”

Qi Shan was about to order more, but Qu Di quickly stopped her. It wasn’t about the cost; it was just that she used to order a lot when they ate out, and it was wasteful for just the two of them.

“Enough, why do you still have this bad habit? Don’t order so much; we can’t finish it all.”

“Ah, I rarely come to Y City, and I don’t know when we’ll meet again…” She gradually adopted a melancholic look and sighed, using her usual trick, which always worked on Qu Di.

“Alright, you can order. If we can’t finish it, I’ll take the leftovers home.”

Hearing the answer she wanted, she smiled brightly, “Hehe, I told you, Little Di, you’re the best. Let’s have some preserved pork with preserved vegetables and a lotus root and spare rib soup as well. That’s it.”

Tang Chaobai had been having a headache recently because his silly little brother had suddenly become sentimental. He constantly talked about relationship problems but refused to disclose any details. He just sighed all the time, looking completely dispirited, and even mentioned wanting to take a leave to go on a trip.

Of course, Tang Chaobai couldn’t agree to that. He considered it a temporary emotional outbreak and insisted on making him continue with his work. Luckily, Tang Xiyan had a good sense of priorities, and his work had been going well, so today, Tang Chaobai planned to take him to a Cantonese restaurant he liked.

Tang Chaobai had been waiting at the entrance for almost an hour when Tang Xiyan, who had just finished a magazine photoshoot, finally arrived. He was bundled up tightly.

Tang Chaobai got out of the car. “Hurry inside; don’t let anyone see you.”

Tang Xiyan seemed to have caught a cold, his voice slightly hoarse. “There’s no one following us on the way here,” he said as he sniffled.

“You’ve had a cold for a week

now; why isn’t it getting better?”

Tang Xiyan adjusted his collar and suppressed the urge to cough. He didn’t want to hear his brother nagging. “I’ve been busy lately, five shoots in a day. I don’t have time to see a doctor. Colds get better on their own.”

He certainly didn’t want to see Yu Zhiyuan, that fish-faced doctor.

Tang Chaobai, of course, knew what kind of person Yu Zhiyuan was. Tang Xiyan was simply too lazy to go to the hospital. “Don’t make excuses. It’s just laziness. Can’t you postpone your shoots for a day? How much time would it take to treat a cold? I’ll have Yu Zhiyuan come over tonight.”

Tang Xiyan sneaked a glance at him and didn’t dare to argue. He only spoke softly, so only he could hear, “Why don’t you respect my opinions? I’m an adult…”

Tang Chaobai suddenly stopped and said in a condescending tone, “The day you don’t cause trouble and don’t need me to solve it is the day you can talk to me about respecting your opinions.”

“…”

Is there no humanity left…?

The two of them had reserved a room, and the dishes had been ordered in advance. They had frequently dined here in the past, so Tang Chaobai knew what his little brother liked to eat.

The server handed Tang Xiyan a pre-written menu, and Tang Xiyan briefly glanced at it before handing it back, saying, “Just these.”

Then he stood up and told Tang Chaobai, “I’m going to the restroom.”

“Sure.”

While the Tang brothers had just sat down, on the other side, Qu Di had finished most of his meal and found there were still plenty of leftovers. He planned to take them home for dinner and supper the next day since Shu Yi hadn’t been coming home lately. It was a way to make do, and it saved him from having to buy groceries.

He requested a few takeaway containers, stood up to pack the leftovers, and that’s when a child ran past, bumping into him and causing him to spill soy sauce from a steamed fish dish all over his clothes. Unfortunately, he was wearing a white T-shirt today, and the spill left a stain and the scent of soy sauce and green onions.

The child immediately disappeared, not even looking back. Qi Shan wanted to chase after and see which child was so inattentive, but Qu Di stopped her.

“Don’t go, kids will be kids. It’s not a big deal.”

Compared to the mild-mannered Qu Di, Qi Shan couldn’t stand such children. It was indeed a minor incident, and an apology would suffice, but these kids who didn’t even look back made her wish she could give them a stern lesson in manners and make them kneel down to apologize.

She frowned and handed him a couple of napkins, saying, “Why do you put up with this? It’s clearly his fault. And your clothes, I don’t know if they can be cleaned.”

Some soy sauce had splashed onto his pants, and he felt his thighs were damp, as if the liquid had run down to his ankles. He quickly headed to the restroom to clean up.

Tang Xiyan sat inside the private room, staring at his phone absentmindedly. The last message left by Qu Di was still the farewell message, and he had read it countless times but still couldn’t muster the courage to contact him first.

He put away his phone and opened the door slowly. To his surprise, he saw a familiar figure, and if it weren’t for the reflection in the mirror, he would have thought he was seeing things. Everyone seemed like Qu Di compared to him.

Qu Di hadn’t noticed the person behind him; he was focused on trying to clean his soiled clothes. He rolled up his pant legs and found that the stains couldn’t be removed, so he intended to go back to the private room to deal with it.

As he turned around, he met Tang Xiyan’s eyes. Tang Xiyan was eating out secretly, like he used to do before. He was wearing layers of clothing, a hat, and had taken off his sunglasses.

Tang Xiyan had been holding back for quite some time, and finally, he managed to say, “Long time no see.”

Qu Di, only then realizing, smiled and asked, “Are you eating out?”

“Yeah.” Tang Xiyan instinctively tugged at his clothes, wondering if he looked okay today… if his hair was too messy.

Thinking like this, Qu Di suddenly approached, reached out to touch his head, and Tang Xiyan’s heart raced. He was almost holding his breath, but Qu Di just lightly patted his hair and withdrew his hand.

“You’ve got some white dust here.”

Tang Xiyan embarrassedly raised his head and patted the spot where Qu Di had touched. “It might be from the photoshoot… There was dust on the set.”

“Last time I went to see you, you weren’t at home. I was planning to treat you to dinner. Thanks for taking care of me during that time.”

Tang Xiyan’s voice was low, “Yeah… I was out, and I got your message later.” In fact, he was at home, hiding and watching Qu Di come and go. He didn’t want to say goodbye to him.

“Why didn’t you reply to me? I thought you were mad at me.”

He was indeed angry, so angry that he couldn’t sleep for several nights, so angry that even a milk tea with whipped cream on top couldn’t cheer him up, and he was always distracted at work.

“I wasn’t. I’m not that petty. It’s just that I was busy with work. The new assistant I hired is doing well, more careful than you, and she handles things properly.”

But I still want to drink the herbal tea and sweet soup you make for me, and the potato chips you locked away in the cabinet, which I didn’t dare eat later, as well as your disciplined daily routine and diet.

Tang Xiyan tried to act like an old friend and said, “Why don’t we meet up another day…”

“Tang Xiyan!”

Tang Chaobai had waited for a long time, and all the food had been served, but Tang Xiyan still hadn’t returned. He was worried that his brother had been stopped by fans or reporters. He went out to look for him but found Tang Xiyan standing near the restroom and talking to someone.

Chapter 30 – Xiao Ling was insulted

Chapter 30

“Yes, you’ve been sleeping for a long time,” Pei Jia gently stroked Tao Yuan’s face.

Si Lan and Haowei watched the scene of intimacy between the two, feeling strangely eerie and shivering.

“Can you tell who’s controlling Tao Yuan’s body now?” Si Lan asked Haowei in a hushed voice.

“Right in front.”

Si Lan looked ahead as instructed and indeed saw a man in a black suit manipulating an invisible puppet before him with eerie finger movements.

Tao Yuan suddenly coughed, his breath frail as a thread, scaring Pei Jia into helping him and gently easing his discomfort.

His body was already delicate, and after “sleeping” for so long, it appeared even more fragile, like a withered branch that might snap at any moment.

Pei Jia carefully held him in his arms. “Tao Yuan, do you feel any discomfort?”

Tao Yuan shook his head. “Pei Lang, I’m fine now.”

Upon hearing this, Pei Jia suddenly stood up, drew his sword, and pointed it directly at Tao Yuan on the bed, the sword’s tip trembling slightly.

“Who are you, really?”

“Pei Lang… I’m Tao Yuan…”

“You’re not Tao Yuan because Tao Yuan never calls me Pei Lang.”

Upon hearing this, the person on the bed stopped pretending, his face no longer showing grief or weakness.

Other cultivators drew their long swords from their waists and confronted the Pei family guards.

“General, this actor is already dead; there’s no way he could be resurrected through magic in this world.” The person on the bed slowly stood up, shattering Pei Jia’s illusions.

Pei Jia couldn’t contain his anger. “Get out of Tao Yuan’s body, or don’t blame me for killing all of you.”

The man burst into laughter. “General, why deceive yourself? When I entered this actor’s body, I could already smell a rotting odor on him, a scent no incense could mask.”

This statement pushed Pei Jia to the edge. Rather than attacking the man, he turned and stabbed a nearby cultivator who couldn’t evade the strike, hitting him in the abdomen.

In the next moment, Pei Jia’s hand gripped the man’s throat, his nails sinking in, a fierce expression on his face. “Get out of Tao Yuan’s body, or don’t blame me for killing your comrades!”

“General…”

“I don’t have the patience to repeat myself a third time!”

Seemingly reluctant, the man cast a spell and left Tao Yuan’s body.

Tao Yuan instantly closed his eyes, falling backward. It looked like his head was about to hit the ground, but Pei Jia immediately rushed to catch him. “Tao Yuan…”

However, at that moment, Tao Yuan in his arms suddenly opened his eyes, and a dagger appeared in his hand, stabbing directly at Pei Jia. Instinctively, Pei Jia leaned back to avoid the attack, but the dagger struck his abdomen.

“General, don’t blame your subordinates for being heartless. It’s because you keep making mistakes!”

Seeing this, Si Lan felt a shock in his heart and quickly cast a spell to rescue Pei Jia from the man’s grasp.

The other cultivators nearby, seeing this turn of events, brandished their swords and advanced towards Si Lan.

Haowei secretly cast a spell that immobilized their movements.

“Why can’t we move?”

“Is it the spirit of that actor causing trouble?” They instinctively placed the blame on Tao Yuan, who had long since passed away.

Si Lan was about to force the man’s spirit out of Tao Yuan’s body when he saw the man take something out of his pocket and swiftly put it in his mouth. In the next instant, Tao Yuan’s body exploded with a loud bang.

Pei Jia stood there in shock, blood pouring from his abdomen, yet he remained unaware, his eyes fixed on the spot where Tao Yuan had just stood.

There was nothing left but a rush of fresh blood.

In that moment, utter despair overwhelmed him. All his hopes and dreams were shattered.

How could this happen?

Tao Yuan had never done anything wrong in his entire life.

Why was the world so cruel to him?

Pei Jia lost his sanity, roaring as he raised his sword and charged at the cultivators. Fortunately, Haowei had noticed his impending madness and immediately used a spell to seal his acupoints.

Pei Jia was rendered motionless, his eyes filled with malice. “Release me, release me! I’ll kill them!”

“General Pei, you’re injured. Please calm down!” Si Lan swiftly pressed on Pei Jia’s abdomen a few times to stop the bleeding.

Pei Jia couldn’t feel any pain at all. At this moment, his mind was consumed with the desire to kill those people, no, to kill everyone.

He suddenly burst into wild laughter, tears mixed with blood rolling down his face. His black jade crown fell off his head, and his jet-black hair turned completely white in an instant.

Pei Jia’s eyes also underwent a transformation, shrouded in black mist, with only a glimpse of blood-red irises visible. His face turned as white as paper, and his lips were as red as blood.

Seeing this, Si Lan furrowed his brow in alarm.

Something was wrong.

Pei Jia was being consumed by dark forces.

Unbeknownst to Pei Jia, tendrils of black mist began to appear around his body, sliding like eels and entering his body. As these currents of dark energy entered him, they instantly unraveled the seals placed on Pei Jia.

After regaining his freedom, Pei Jia immediately swung his sword towards the fake cultivators.

Si Lan quickly used his whip to coil around Pei Jia’s sword, and Pei Jia glared at him. His voice had changed, now sounding sinister, filled with exhaustion and a hint of hoarseness, as if it came from the depths of hell. “Doctor Si, if you try to stop me, don’t blame me for showing no mercy!”

With that, a surge of black mist transformed into a razor-sharp blade and attacked Si Lan’s neck. Haowei swiftly pulled Si Lan away, creating a protective barrier to ward off “Pei Jia’s” subsequent attacks.

“Pei Jia has fallen into darkness!”

Si Lan, realizing that Pei Jia couldn’t be reasoned with, decided to take action. He drew his whip and flew into the air, positioning himself in front of Pei Jia.

Song Cheng and Song Ye, upon seeing this, stood behind Si Lan, swords raised, confronting Pei Jia.

The tension between the two sides was palpable, and a battle seemed imminent when suddenly, in the distance, a melodious tune wafted through the air.

“In the vermilion gates and jade-carved door frames, Pei Lang leans against the wall, sipping from a flower-shaped wineglass. Please tell me, when it comes to love, who is to blame? Loving and hating, he’s a beloved husband…”

Hearing this song, the black mist gradually dissipated from Pei Jia, and his gaze cleared. He dismounted and rushed toward the source of the voice.

The trace of obsession left by Tao Yuan had taken on a phantom form. This nearly transparent illusion stood on a theatrical stage, softly chanting the song.

Pei Jia reached out to embrace Tao Yuan, but his arms went through empty air.

He couldn’t hold onto the phantom.

“Tao Yuan, is this your soul?” Pei Jia stared blankly at the translucent figure, feeling as though his heart had been sliced open multiple times, making it difficult to breathe.

Si Lan hadn’t expected that Pei Jia, who had already fallen into darkness, would regain his sanity upon hearing Tao Yuan’s voice. Only Tao Yuan’s matters could affect Pei Jia.

Si Lan asked Haowei, “Haowei, if we kill Pei Jia, will it break the curse of Da Yang?”

“No, Pei Jia and Da Yang are linked through a sacrificial bond. Even if we kill Pei Jia, it won’t break the curse of Da Yang.”

“In that case, can sealing Da Yang release the curse?”

Si Lan didn’t dare to ask directly if Da Yang could be killed, as even the previous Heavenly Emperor hadn’t killed Da Yang but had instead sealed him away.

Haowei furrowed his brows and shook his head. When he was young, he had seen his father’s work, “Sealing the Demon Incarnate,” in the library. It detailed the method to seal Da Yang but didn’t mention how to break the curse or suggest that sealing Da Yang would automatically dispel the curse.

However, the information on curse-breaking might be found in other books. It seemed like a trip to the library was in order.

While Si Lan could sense a strong presence of dark magic in the General’s residence, he couldn’t detect Da Yang’s aura. If this ancient demon truly lurked within the General’s residence, it would have been teeming with dark energy. So where exactly was Da Yang hiding?

Haowei seemed to guess what was on Si Lan’s mind and said, “The scattered pockets of dark energy in the mortal realm are, in fact, fragments of Da Yang’s body.”

Si Lan was taken aback. Any curse usually had time and space constraints. This Da Yang’s curse had seemingly enveloped the entire mortal realm, but it turned out that Da Yang had torn his own body into countless pieces, scattered throughout the world to complete the curse.

Si Lan was at a loss for words.

The only medium through which Da Yang could be communicated with was Pei Jia. However, Pei Jia’s thoughts were entirely consumed by Tao Yuan, and he was speaking to that invisible obsession.

To make Pei Jia change his mind, they needed to first dispel Tao Yuan’s obsession.

Si Lan approached Tao Yuan’s obsession. Immediately, Pei Jia drew his sword, blocking Si Lan’s way. “What are you trying to do?”

“General Pei, now that Lady Pei’s physical form has dissipated, this obsession won’t linger in the mortal realm for long. Do you want him to leave with regrets?”

Pei Jia maintained a defensive stance.

Si Lan recalled that Tao Yuan had a good relationship with the Twin Masters of Tuo Shan. He continued, “General Pei, when Lady Pei was alive, she once told us that the greatest fortune of her life was having your care during her childhood and her love for you when she was young.”

Pei Jia’s eyes flickered, as if something in those words had struck a chord. “Did she really say that?”

“Yes.”

Pei Jia smiled bitterly. Clearly, his love for Tao Yuan was the greatest misfortune in Tao Yuan’s life. If he hadn’t met Pei Jia, Tao Yuan’s life might have been difficult, but he could have continued living.

He glanced at Tao Yuan’s phantom, which was growing increasingly faint, and the singing voice was fading as well. Would it disappear entirely?

“Tao Yuan, whatever it is that you want, or whoever it is, I’m willing to do it for you…” Pei Jia reached out to touch the phantom’s face, spoke with deep affection, then turned to ask Si Lan, “What should I do now?”

Si Lan extended his hand to touch the obsession, realizing that it was very fragile and couldn’t hold many memories.

He needed to perform the “Return Curse” and go back in time to see what Tao Yuan’s obsession was all about.

“General Pei, during the casting of the ‘Return Curse,’ I need an absolutely safe and quiet environment.”

“Alright.”

Pei Jia didn’t ask too many questions. Perhaps he trusted Si Lan or maybe, in his current state, he had nothing left to lose.

He ordered his servants and soldiers to guard the General’s residence from all directions, forbidding anyone from disturbing them. He stood guard outside the room himself.

Inside the room, Si Lan felt uneasy. He considered having Haowei and the Song brothers maintain the protective formation.

The Song brothers readily agreed, but Haowei, with a grim expression, neither consented nor refused.

“Your Majesty, does casting the ‘Return Curse’ cause any harm?” Song Cheng inquired with a furrowed brow.

Si Lan chuckled, “No, I know my limits.”

In truth, he didn’t have a clear grasp of his limits. Casting the “Purification Curse” once had cost him three layers of his cultivation. The “Return Curse” was likely to be equally taxing.

The last time, Jiuying’s aura dissipated after using the “Return Curse.”

Song Cheng was about to ask more questions when Song Ye interjected, “Big Brother, the way he’s fussing is just like His Majesty’s Lady. But alas, our Majesty is not someone to be tamed.”

“…,” Si Lan.

Song Cheng’s gaze turned sharp, shooting a look at Song Ye, who pursed his lips and turned away, crossing his arms and adopting a fearless expression.

“Your Majesty, he has always been outspoken. Please don’t take it to heart,” Song Cheng said.

Si Lan responded with a simple “Hmm,” and set up a protective barrier around the room.

He closed his eyes, bowed his head, and interlaced his ten fingers in front of his chest. He silently recited an incantation. In the next moment, he found himself standing between the gears of the Six Paths Reincarnation, with 333 gears spinning rapidly.

Then, a multitude of white light spilled from between the gears, obscuring his vision.

When he opened his eyes again, Si Lan found himself in an unfamiliar place. All around him was a vast desert, with billowing sandstorms obscuring the sky.

Behind him, a shadowy figure followed him.

Si Lan turned around in surprise to see that it was Haowei.

“Chong Wei, why are you here in this illusion?” Si Lan asked.

“I don’t know,” came the faint reply from within the hood.

“…”

Si Lan had a sense of déjà vu. Every time he entered an illusion, there was always a follower.

Before, it was a little follower, and now it was a big one.

“Listen, men,” a group of men’s voices in the distance played out, accompanied by the eerie sound of the wind and sand. It was like a devil’s incantation.

“The lead actor, this little performer, his mouth is small, but his cheeks are fairer than a woman’s.”

“I wonder if he’s as fair in the back?”

“Hahaha…”

The men’s conversation grew increasingly lewd, intermingled with faint sobs and pleas for help.

Si Lan and Haowei immediately followed the sounds and saw a group of men in crude linen clothing, wearing gray head covers, huddled in a circle, laughing and teasing each other.

A slender and fair ankle poked out from among them.

“Tsk, tsk, truly a famous actor, such fair skin, truly to be pitied!”

“Do you know how men do it with other men?”

“I heard they use the rear!”

“Disgusting, isn’t that very dirty?”

“You don’t understand, a few rounds with that mouth and it’ll be clean…”

The conversation of those men grew increasingly shameless. Si Lan, hearing it, couldn’t help but blush, and he unconsciously looked at Haowei beside him.

With a hood covering his face, it was impossible to discern any reaction from Haowei.

“Enough, I can’t wait any longer. We don’t need the filthy details!”

“Hahaha…” The men laughed uproariously.

Si Lan clenched his fist, his body hovering in the air, and he gazed at the young performer surrounded by those ruffians. After getting a clear look at the person’s face, his expression slightly froze.

It was indeed Tao Yuan.

Tao Yuan’s clothes were torn, and he shielded a group of younger actors with his hand, even though his own face was red, he still extended his hand to protect those younger performers.

“Brother Yuan, should we…”

“Don’t be afraid; I’ll protect all of you.” Tao Yuan’s voice quivered with determination, as if he had made a decision in his heart. He pursed his lips and, after a moment, took off the tattered cloth hanging from his shoulder, addressing those rowdy bandits, “These young ones are probably too delicate to handle, gentlemen. It’s better to let me take care of you.”

Hearing this, the men’s throats moved, and they chuckled.

“Haha, since the little beauty is so eager, we won’t be polite…”

The leader of the men grabbed Tao Yuan’s clothing and pulled him into a tent, and a few other bold men followed suit, joking that they wanted to be the groom.

Si Lan clenched his fists and, floating in mid-air, he looked towards the group of black-armored soldiers who had ambushed the area.

Hurry!

If they delayed any longer, things might take a turn for the worse!

Si Lan was so anxious that he wished he could snatch a sword from the soldiers and slash the tent open to rescue Tao Yuan.

Fortunately, the soldiers didn’t waste any time either. They moved in for an attack on the bandits. Most of the bandits outside the tent couldn’t react in time and were killed instantly.

A small group of them attempted to resist, passing on the message to those inside the tent.

“Boss, run! There are soldiers…”

“Soldiers? What soldiers?”

One bandit lifted the tent flap and was about to speak, but his words were cut short by a sword.

The one who struck him down was Pei Jia.

Pei Jia’s face was splattered with the bandit’s blood, but he remained expressionless. He lifted the tent flap, entered the tent, and a moment later, the sound of a scuffle, followed by the bandit leader’s pleas for mercy, could be heard. Yet, the last sound was eventually drowned out by the snapping of bones.

Si Lan finally breathed a sigh of relief. He murmured, “Thank goodness we saved him.”

This was likely the first time Tao Yuan and Pei Jia had seen each other after many years apart. After all these years, would their feelings still be as pure as they once were?

Haowei glanced at Si Lan and remembered how Si Lan had wanted to draw his sword and kill the bandits earlier. He couldn’t help but remark, “You seem to invest quite a lot of genuine emotions.” They were just spectators, and no matter how urgent they felt, it wouldn’t change anything.

Si Lan chuckled and said, “I’m a person with strong empathy.”

Haowei remained noncommittal.

Within the illusion, Pei Jia removed his clothes and dr4p3d them over Tao Yuan. He held Tao Yuan and walked out of the tent.

Tao Yuan’s face was pale, but his eyes shone brightly, and he couldn’t take his eyes off Pei Jia’s side profile. The tenderness in his eyes seemed as if it could melt into tears.

Pei Jia patted Tao Yuan’s shoulder and said, “I’ll go take care of some business and be back later.”

Tao Yuan finally released him, but his gaze still followed Pei Jia as he walked away. Then, a faint smile appeared on his face.

Si Lan looked at the Tao Yuan in front of him, who had grown even more dazzling and alluring than eight years ago, with skin almost translucent. He gave off a fragile, delicate aura, making Si Lan want to protect him.

This lively Tao Yuan, compared to the one who had been bedridden and turned into a living corpse, was like two different people.

The thought of their inevitable ending filled Si Lan with mixed emotions.

His empathy resurfaced once again.

“It seems that at this point, Pei Jia doesn’t seem to like Tao Yuan very much, while Tao Yuan is the one who’s deeply entangled.”

Haowei nodded.

Si Lan cleared his throat and said rather pensively, “I’ve read many love stories between generals and actors in books, and none of them have had a good ending.”

Haowei looked at him, unsure why he had brought this up all of a sudden.

“Do you think love with a significant class difference can have a good ending?” Si Lan asked this question, and as he did, he suddenly looked at Haowei.

Haowei fell silent, his life had never been troubled by such a question, and no one had ever bothered him with it.

“In the Demon Realm, despite being free-spirited, there are many unspoken rules that still shape people’s beliefs. For example, a chicken, cough, is not as good as a phoenix.”

“…”

So that’s what it all boiled down to.

Haowei spoke gently, “Comparing things in such a manner is a self-inflicted torture.”

Si Lan was at a loss for words, feeling that Haowei’s words didn’t strike him, and he didn’t know the pain. Over these thousand years, he had eaten so much hardship and suffered so much injustice in his quest to perform as a divine phoenix.

He had quietly promoted the idea of equality between demons and spirits in the Demon Realm, but it had little effect. The demons in the Demon Realm still only recognized birth and cultivation, and the elderly and frail demon beings were seen as food or trash.

“Do your sects adhere to these hierarchical rules? Do they have issues related to social standing?” Si Lan inquired of Haowei.

Haowei gazed intently and slowly replied, “Not mine.”

“Oh.” Si Lan’s lips curled slightly.

Inside the illusion, time had silently progressed into the deep night. After Pei Jia had finished his business, he thought of Tao Yuan and went to check on him. Tao Yuan had just fallen asleep, but when he heard the sound of the curtain being lifted, he woke up instantly, his eyes filled with fear as he looked outside.

Pei Jia felt that he had scared Tao Yuan, and he wanted to step forward to explain but also felt like leaving, caught in a dilemma.

When Tao Yuan recognized him, he immediately got out of bed without shoes and rushed into Pei Jia’s arms.

The joy of reuniting after such a long separation finally revealed itself at this moment.

The countless reunions in his dreams had finally come true. The missing piece in his heart had finally become whole.

Tao Yuan couldn’t help but choke up. So much had happened over these years, and there were so many things he wanted to tell Pei Jia, but he couldn’t find the words. So, he could only sob softly, like a child, his voice trembling with each sob.

Pei Jia’s hand hung in the air, and after a moment of hesitation, he gently placed it on Tao Yuan’s back, giving him soothing pats.

“Don’t be afraid; those bandits have been eradicated.”

Si Lan shook his head. He hadn’t expected Pei Jia, who had grown up, to be so unromantic. Tao Yuan wasn’t crying because of the bandits right now; it was because of him. At this moment, Pei Jia should have just embraced Tao Yuan and confessed his feelings, not stood there like a piece of wood.

It seemed that as he grew older, Pei Jia had forgotten how to be charming.

Perhaps these years in the military had changed Pei Jia’s character.

Chapter 90 – I’m guessing he will not marry you

Chapter 90 – I’m guessing he will not marry you

After a simple visit, we didn’t enter the school.

Lu Shifeng said to Jian Luo, “Don’t go to crowded places.”

Jian Luo asked with a soulful inquiry, “Why?”

“To avoid trouble,” Lu Shifeng stood by Jian Luo’s side. “It will be easier for you to adapt to the environment once you return.”

Jian Luo felt dizzy and didn’t understand much. In the end, he only grasped the phrase about adapting to the environment. The rest didn’t really faze him. Well, that part about adapting did shake him. Recalling the hardships of morning sickness, he instantly became obedient.

The leader said, “Basically, our entire city is like this.”

Jian Luo looked at the empty spaces. “Aren’t these areas being utilized?”

After all, the protective shield wasn’t that large. If these spaces were left empty, it would indeed be wasteful, wouldn’t it?

The leader explained, “These areas are reserved as artillery positions for defense against external enemies. The forest over there is not very safe, and during winter, there may be wild beast attacks. Without proper preparation, it can be dangerous.”

Speaking of which, the leader looked at Jian Luo meaningfully, a hint of irony appearing on his dark face. “You guys probably don’t need to worry.”

“…”

Jian Luo was speechless. If you really thought about it, you couldn’t deny the leader’s words. Compared to these concerns, their lives might be better here. Not to mention that even in the Dark Star, they were considered refugees. But there, they only had to endure discrimination, not life-threatening danger.

Jian Luo furrowed his brows. “How long does winter last?”

The leader answered, “Two months.”

It was coming soon. Jian Luo sighed inwardly. Land beside him said, “Had enough sightseeing?”

“Okay.”

“Rest for a while.” Lu Shifeng led Jian Luo to a nearby pavilion. “Don’t stand for too long.”

Jian Luo obediently sat in the pavilion. If he didn’t rest, he didn’t feel much different. But once he sat down, he felt a bit thirsty and licked his lips, struggling to endure.

Lu Shifeng said, “Do you want some water?”

Jian Luo was surprised. “You know that too?”

Lu Shifeng didn’t explain much, just took a water bottle from the storage space of his information bracelet and handed it to Jian Luo.

“You carried water with you.”

“It’s not like everyone is as empty-handed as you when they disembark from a warship.”

“…”

Jian Luo took a few sips of water and then offered it to Lu Shifeng. “Are you thirsty?”

The cup was handed to Lu Shifeng’s face. If his secretary were here right now, she would surely be astonished because Lu Shifeng’s level of fussiness was quite terrifying, not to mention using a cup that someone else had already drunk from.

But Jian Luo didn’t notice this peculiar detail at the moment and continued to hold the cup.

Lu Shifeng’s gaze fell on Jian Luo’s hand. There was a trace of scrutiny in his dark eyes. After a moment of silence, just when Jian Luo started feeling a bit strange, he raised his head. He saw Lu Shifeng coincidentally taking the cup from his hand and taking a sip of water.

Though it wasn’t a particularly ambiguous action, Lu Shifeng didn’t make any suggestive gestures. However, as Jian Luo continued watching, he suddenly felt uneasy.

“Cough…” Jian Luo lightly coughed and then turned to the leader not far away. “Actually, I have a question.”

The leader quickly said, “What is it?”

Jian Luo asked curiously, “How do you handle illnesses here? I mean, when you get sick.”

This question wasn’t out of place, and the leader relaxed a bit upon hearing it. He answered, “We have doctors. For serious illnesses, we rely on imported alien medicines. For less serious ones, we have military doctors who use our own medicines.”

Jian Luo’s eyes lit up. “Can I go and see?”

The leader nodded.

Jian Luo looked at Lu Shifeng. “Are you coming?”

Lu Shifeng furrowed his brows and looked Jian Luo up and down. “Are you sick?”

Jian Luo justified himself, “No, I just want to see if I can contribute to medical care.”

“…”

Lu Shifeng’s blood-red eyes quietly stared at Jian Luo, making him feel somewhat embarrassed.

“What do you mean?” Jian Luo became irritated.

Lu Shifeng withdrew his gaze and calmly said, “Your courage is commendable.”

“…”

You arrogant dog! Just wait!

Accompanied by the leader, Jian Luo visited the doctor in the city. He roughly understood the local procedures. Their indigenous medicines were made from herbs, and although Earth’s herbs had gone through thousands of years, their medicinal properties hadn’t changed. The so-called imported alien medicines were probably nutrient solutions.

Jian Luo contemplated for a while. “What’s the likelihood of getting sick here?”

The doctor, aware that he was dealing with an important guest, responded politely, “Fifty percent. During bad weather, people may experience headaches and fever, but it usually occurs in children. Adults here generally don’t get sick easily.”

Jian Luo nodded as if he understood.

If he thought about it his way, the birth rate and disease rate here had probably gone through natural selection.

After touring the place, Jian Luo’s mind was filled with various plans. If they really entrusted Earth to him, how could he maximize their benefits with his existing abilities? If they had to, they would definitely need to take a commercial route. He kept looking for the location of the food factory. Now, if he looked at it, establishing the food factory here within the protected area would be a good idea.

But there were also significant issues. The average education level here was quite low, and with the constant threat of wild beast attacks, establishing a food factory seemed too risky.

Thinking about this, Jian Luo sat down in a chair and asked the doctor, “If wild beasts attack during the winter here, how serious is the situation?”

The doctor put down his pen and replied, “In general, during the winter, hungry wild beasts become more aggressive. Our leader led us to excavate an underground city some years ago, and all our food reserves are stored there. We stop hunting during the winter, and some continue to produce energy stones to maintain the protective shield.”

Jian Luo asked, “Are there casualties?”

“Definitely,” the doctor nodded. “The mines where we produce energy stones are hot and enclosed. Normally, wild beasts don’t dare to approach, so the number of deaths is not too high.”

Jian Luo pondered.

So, the biggest problems now were solving two things. First, the issue of Earth’s magnetic field. If they didn’t need energy stones to maintain it directly, it would save a lot of effort and resources. Second, dealing with these mutants. Even if they wanted to build a factory, they needed to ensure the cleanliness and safety of the food.

The doctor said, “Mr. Jian, if you don’t mind me being forward, I’d like to ask a question.”

Jian Luo snapped back to attention. “Go ahead.”

“What’s your relationship with that marshal?” The doctor pushed up his glasses and quickly added, “I don’t mean to be intrusive, but I couldn’t help but wonder since you two seem… close.”

Jian Luo paused and didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he asked, “What do you think?”

This question stumped the doctor. However, seeing that Jian Luo was straightforward and not concealing anything, he said honestly, “You’re pregnant, I assume? You’re carrying his child?”

Jian Luo raised an eyebrow.

“But you two probably aren’t married, right?” The doctor smiled and added, “I guess the Dark Star doesn’t marry people like you, especially someone of his high status.”

Jian Luo pursed his lips, sat back in the chair, and propped his chin with one hand. “You’re right.”

The doctor cleared his throat nervously.

Jian Luo didn’t feel embarrassed. He knew very well what he was and what he wasn’t. Even though he had some feelings for Lu Shifeng, it didn’t mean he had to marry someone of that caliber. They would all have to part ways eventually; there was no need to get sentimental over trivial matters.

Jian Luo looked at the doctor and noticed that he also had a wristband. “Want to become friends?”

The doctor was momentarily surprised but nodded. “Sure.”

They added each other as friends, and Jian Luo stood up. “Well, I should be going.”

“Wait!” The doctor stood up too.

Jian Luo paused and turned to look at him.

“Um, you…” The doctor hesitated and then pursed his lips, finally saying, “Will the Dark Star invade us?”

Jian Luo raised an eyebrow. Though he was not very tall compared to the Earth’s standards, he appeared quite refined here. But paradoxically, it was this unassuming appearance that seemed to exude an invisible pressure. It almost scared the doctor to the point of losing his composure.

The doctor’s heart raced with nervousness.

Jian Luo smiled wryly. “Speculation won’t do any good.”

After saying this, he left.

In the remaining few days, Jian Luo began to study the base’s layout carefully. As a member of the same species, he didn’t encounter much resistance here, and some even welcomed him warmly.

Jian Luo took many photos and collected samples of various herbs. Rushing things would not be wise; after all, the Earth was not in danger at the moment. They had enough time to plan how to utilize this planet.

Finally, the day to leave arrived.

Compared to before, this time Jian Luo had someone to see him off. Lu Shifeng lowered his head and said something to the leader, while Jian Luo explained things to Aya.

Jian Luo said, “We’ve added each other as friends. Remember to keep in touch with me.”

Aya nodded.

“If you believe me, try to persuade your husband. Cooperation with the Dark Star is beneficial and harmless. To avoid being engulfed, you must first protect yourselves and then seek external development. Rejecting everything foreign will only lead to decline.” Jian Luo patted Aya’s hand. “Tasteless resistance will only bring sorrow.”

Aya’s eyes welled up with tears. She said, “Luoluo…”

Jian Luo asked, “Yes?”

“Did you also have to compromise and sacrifice yourself?” Aya lowered her voice, her tone somewhat tearful. “You’ve suffered too much.”

Jian Luo hurriedly shook his head. “No, I didn’t.”

Aya scrutinized Jian Luo for a moment, as if trying to confirm the truth of his words. Finally, she reached into her pocket and handed something to Jian Luo. “In that case, take this. From what I’ve observed these past few days, your relationship doesn’t seem very harmonious. Take matters into your own hands.”

“…?”

Chapter 7 – Mirror

The sky outside hadn’t completely darkened, but it was getting darker. The lights were on in the lab, and the surroundings were clear. However, in this environment, Song Jun still felt scared.

He locked himself in this small lab, not knowing what to do.

The thick security door of the lab cut off the sound of footsteps in the corridor outside. He didn’t know if anyone was outside or if that person was human. He was not in the mood to look at the experimental results on the computer. He was just thinking about what he should do to get out of this place.

But after leaving here, where would it be safe to go? Even in the dormitory, didn’t that strange thing come to harass him?

He was sure that he was haunted by that female ghost, or in the words he heard Feng Junyuan say today, he was marked. But why him? He had never encountered these things since he was a child until he had graduated college. Everything had only happened since he came to study here. Was it an issue with him, or was there a problem with this university?

Song Jun leaned against the window, feeling the remaining warmth of the setting sun outside, but his body was still unable to warm up. He gradually slid down until he knelt on the ground; his mind was filled with nothing but panic and confusion.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the heavy security door.

Song Jun was surprised at first, but then he became hopeful. He was thinking that maybe other people in the lab would come over to do experiments after dinner. He held out hope and asked, “Who is it?”

       But got no response.

Song Jun stood up, hesitating whether to go over.

The knock on the door sounded again. This time it was a continuous and stereotyped sound, one after another, with precise intervals like a machine.

Song Jun asked who it was but never got a response.

He finally plucked up the courage and walked towards the door, slowly probing his head towards the peephole on the door.

Through the peephole, Song Jun saw the situation in the corridor. There was indeed someone outside, a woman wearing a white dress. She stood outside the door with her back to the lab.

The figure was identical to the one Song Jun had seen when he opened the door to the elevator just a moment ago.

The woman’s back was facing the door, but she stretched out her hand backwards in a strange posture and then made a sharp sound on the door with her sharp nails.

       The sound tormented Song Jun.

Immediately after, he realised that the woman was turning around and she was trying to turn her head around.

Song Jun’s first reaction was to move away, but it was as if his feet were frozen, and he couldn’t move at all.

Seeing that the woman was about to turn her head, Song Jun gasped for air, cold sweat dripping from his forehead.

At that moment, a massive dark shadow flashed before Song Jun’s eyes. The figure was so large that, in the next instant, it completely blocked the entire range visible through the peephole, leaving total darkness in front of Song Jun’s eyes.

The woman disappeared. Song Jun’s legs weakened, and he sat on the ground. He found that he could move again.

At this moment, Song Jun wiped the cold sweat from his forehead. His mind remained blank, unable to react. He didn’t know if he had narrowly escaped a disaster, and if he had indeed escaped, should he drop out and leave this eerie place?

Just when he didn’t know what to do, the knock on the door rang again.

Song Jun’s whole body tensed up, and then he heard a calm voice, “Song Jun, it’s me.”

       It was Xia Hongshen’s voice.

Song Jun quickly stood up and went to the peephole to take a look. Sure enough, he saw Xia Hongshen standing outside the door. He immediately breathed a sigh of relief, but at the same time, he became nervous, fearing that it might be a trick played by the female ghost outside the door to trick him.

However, Xia Hongshen then said, “Don’t be afraid, just open the door.”

Song Jun put his hand on the door lock and hesitated for a long time before opening the door.

There was only Xia Hongshen outside, and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Not far away, the door leading to the elevator was still open, and Song Jun could clearly see the light coming through.

There was nothing left, and everything returned to normal.

Song Jun hastily saved the experimental data on the computer, then packed up and left the Forensic Medicine building with Xia Hongshen.

He didn’t say anything the whole way. When Xia Hongshen walked downstairs, he said to him, “Please drink some water.”

Song Jun did not refuse. He went to the canteen with Xia Hongshen and asked the boss for a can of beer. He opened the lid of the can and took a few sips. Then he wiped the corners of his mouth with the back of his hand, panting slightly.

Xia Hongshen sat opposite him and looked at him.

Song Jun felt the cold beer sliding down his digestive tract and said to Xia Hongshen, “Senior, I seem to be haunted by a ghost. I’m going to die.”

As he spoke, he scratched his cheek with his fingers, remembering the scratches he had seen before.

Xia Hongshen said in his usual calm tone, “It will be okay.”

Song Jun said, “Really, if it weren’t for you suddenly showing up just now…” At this point, Song Jun took another big gulp of beer. He felt a bit uneasy, a sense of exhaustion after being severely frightened, leaving him emotionally low.

He began to think about some things in the past. He felt that his whole life was going well. He finally got into the school of his choice, but then he had to encounter such unthinkable things.

Song Jun raised his hands to cover his face and said, “I’m so scared. I want to drop out of school.”

Suddenly a hand was pressed on the top of his head, and Xia Hongshen’s voice rang out, saying, “Don’t be afraid. It won’t happen again in the future.”

Song Jun said, “It will be. Someone told me I was marked. He must have seen the female ghost haunting me.”

Hearing this, Xia Hongshen asked, “Who told you?”

Song Jun still had his face covered with his hands. He thought for a moment and said, “I saw that person last night. The one with the surname Feng.”

Xia Hongshen didn’t say anything. He raised his hand to call the owner, brought over a few cans of beer, and then asked Song Jun to relax and drink more.

Song Jun just drank to drown his sorrows and drank all the beer Xia Hongshen ordered. With an average alcohol tolerance and the burden of his thoughts, he ended up getting thoroughly drunk. When he saw a girl wearing a white dress and red shoes passing by, he shouted not to come over. As a result, he was shouted as a lunatic by the passerby.

Seeing that Song Jun was almost drunk, Xia Hongshen came over and helped him up with one hand, supporting him to walk towards the dormitory.

Song Jun staggered, and it was all thanks to Xia Hongshen’s support that he didn’t fall to the ground. As he walked, he kept talking to Xia Hongshen. He talked about his own experiences from childhood to adulthood. If these things happened when he was sober, he would definitely refuse to say it.

Xia Hongshen helped him back to the dormitory room, put him on his bed, and wiped his face with a wet towel.

Song Jun soon fell into a deep sleep, unaware of anything.

Xia Hongshen was still sitting in front of the computer surfing the internet until he saw that the time had reached three o’clock in the morning. He took off his glasses, rubbed the corners of his eyes and stood up.

He walked to the bed and gently touched Song Jun’s forehead. Seeing that he was sleeping peacefully, he stood up straight and walked out of the room.

Xia Hongshen left his room, slowly went downstairs, and then walked out of the old dormitory building.

It was late at night at school, and no one could be seen. He walked all the way to the Faculty of Pharmacy building and stood in front of the gate on the first floor.

The door had been locked, and the administrator had already fallen into a deep sleep.

Xia Hongshen put his hand on the door lock and waited quietly for a moment. Then, the door lock opened on its own.

The whole Faculty of Pharmacy building was dark, and the elevator had stopped.

Xia Hongshen didn’t stop and walked toward the stairwell on the right. In a dark environment, some moonlight and lights from outside can still shine through in the corridor, but the stairwell was sealed, and nothing could be seen.

Despite this, Xia Hongshen didn’t hesitate at all. He walked up the stairs and stopped at the corner between the first and second floors.

However, at this time, Xia Hongshen heard footsteps coming upstairs.

He paused and continued walking upstairs.

On the fifth floor, Xia Hongshen pushed the door from the stairwell to the corridor. There was a person in front of him, a woman wearing a white dress and red high heels, walking slowly forward. The footsteps were made by her, tap, tap, tap, tap, slowly echoing throughout the corridor.

Every night, she walked tirelessly inside this building, floor by floor. When she reached the fourteenth floor, she would jump from the window. In the early morning of the next day, she continued to get up from where she fell on the ground and repeated the process.

Until Xia Hongshen appeared in front of her.

Initially oblivious, she intended to pass through Xia Hongshen’s body and continue walking forward. However, Xia Hongshen’s hand, with fingers pressed against her forehead, emitted a slightly warm breath that she could feel.

Her blank brain began to move slowly. She stopped, looked at Xia Hongshen, and talked to someone for the first time after her death, “Who are you?”

Xia Hongshen retracted his hand and said to her, “My name is Xia Hongshen, a doctoral student in Forensic Medicine pathology.”

She heard Xia Hongshen say this, so she introduced herself, “My name is Tian Xin, a third-year pharmacology graduate student.”

After speaking, she asked Xia Hongshen, “Why are you here?”

Xia Hongshen did not answer her but asked, “Why are you here?”

Tian Xin was a little confused. She thought about it seriously, and then her eyes widened in shock. She said, “I caught my boyfriend cheating. I said, believe it or not, I’m going to die. He then said just go ahead. I will go to the top floor and jump off the building.”

Xia Hongshen looked at her and said, “Then what?”

“Then?” Tian Xin was thinking, “Then I really jumped.”

Xia Hongshen said calmly, “Yes, so you are dead.”

Tian Xin’s face turned from blank to full of horror, “I’m dead?”

Xia Hongshen told her, “You jumped from the 14th floor and died. You are just a ghost now.”

Tian Xin suddenly trembled violently all over, “I’m dead?! I’m a ghost now?”

Xia Hongshen’s tone sounded completely emotionless, “Your soul is bound to this place. Every night you walk from the first floor to the fourteenth floor, repeating the process of jumping off the building, unable to free yourself.”

Tian Xin raised her hands to cover her face, “I—”

Xia Hongshen said, “This is your own choice, giving up your life so easily for a man.”

Tian Xin started to cry. She was very sad, her body was trembling, and she kept sobbing, but she couldn’t shed a single tear. She hugged her chest, curled into a ball, and squatted down.

Xia Hongshen looked at her expressionlessly, showing no sadness or sympathy.

Tian Xin suddenly said, “No! I don’t want to commit suicide. I was confused! It’s that, it’s the mirror!”

“Mirror.” Xia Hongshen repeated in a low voice.

“It started out as a rumour from the Faculty of Pharmacy. I heard them talking about an ancient mirror in the college that can show you what you want to see. I didn’t believe it at first, but one night during a power outage, I went down the stairs on the right and saw that mirror at the corner leading from the second floor to the first floor. I had always suspected that my boyfriend was cheating on me, and at that time, I was in a bad mood. So, I asked the mirror, ‘Can you show me if my boyfriend is really cheating?’ In the end, I saw him in the mirror having sex with another woman.”

Tian Xin said these words slowly while walking downstairs with Xia Hongshen.

“I felt so distressed. I received too many negative emotions from that mirror. I became anxious and sensitive, completely unlike myself. Later, I had a fight with my boyfriend. I told him that if he continued to associate himself with that woman, I would show him me ending my life. To my surprise, he said go ahead. I was in so much pain and wanted to make him regret it, so that night, I jumped alone from the fourteenth floor. I didn’t want to! It was like I was under some kind of spell, and it all started because of that mirror!”

Tian Xin stretched out her hand and pointed at the full-length mirror standing quietly at the corner of the stairs.

The two of them had reached the second floor. If they walked further, they could stand in front of the mirror.

Even though Tian Xin couldn’t breathe anymore, she couldn’t hide her emotions. She really thought the mirror was confusing her.

Xia Hongshen slowly walked down the stairs and approached the mirror. When he reached it, he touched the cold mirror surface with his fingers and said to Tian Xin, “It’s not that this mirror is bewitching you. It’s the thing attached to the mirror that is bewitching you.”

“The thing attached? What is that?” Tian Xin asked.

Xia Hongshen’s fingers moved slowly, and a faint light appeared in the dark environment, slowly illuminating the surrounding outline.

Tian Xin looked at the mirror and found that she was like a shimmering mist in the mirror with Xia Hongshen next to her—she opened her eyes wide in surprise and looked at Xia Hongshen.

“This mirror is originally a spiritual object. The spiritual energy promotes the growth and nurturing of all things, making it susceptible to the influence of demons and spirits. Before this, the mirror was only inhabited by a female ghost. The scenes you saw were nothing more than illusions created by the female ghost. However, you were easily manipulated by her, losing control of your mind.”

Tian Xin raised her hand and put it on her chest. She said, “What about the female ghost now?”

Xia Hongshen tilted his head slightly, his jawline was elegant and smooth, and he said, “Eaten by me.”

Chapter 29 – It’s hard to escape the Omegaverse trope!

Chapter 29

Two days before the premiere of “Mountains and Rivers,” Tang Xiyan’s talent show, “One-Tenth,” also premiered its first episode. Although Fang Yingying and Tang Xiyan’s interaction wasn’t part of the main broadcast, it was included in the behind-the-scenes footage, instantly making it the number one trending topic.

Some people thought it was just an attempt to gain attention, but most believed that Fang Yingying was just helping out subconsciously. To avoid more contact, she had only lightly touched Tang Xiyan’s waist with two fingers, which looked rather cute. Moreover, despite not being a great dancer, she surprisingly had a contagious singing voice.

On the second day of the premiere, a fan page was created for her, complete with an official Weibo account, and even the fan club’s official colors and slogans were chosen.

Fang Yingying’s Weibo gained tens of thousands of followers overnight, which, while not a huge number, was quite impressive compared to other contestants.

After the premiere of “Mountains and Rivers,” Qu Di officially left his job with Tang Xiyan and immersed himself in scriptwriting. He had initially planned to bid farewell to Tang Xiyan when he left that day, but when he arrived at her home, he found it empty and had to send her a message before leaving.

“I’m back,” Shu Yi would always inform Qu Di if he was coming home for dinner.

As soon as he entered, the aroma of food greeted him. After changing his shoes, he went into the kitchen to find Qu Di busy cooking.

Qu Di turned around. “You can change into something comfortable. You’ve come back just in time for dinner.”

Shu Yi didn’t move. He walked over to check and asked, “Is there any need to change? I’ve been in the studio all day. Is there something delicious tonight?”

Qu Di gestured for him to take the soup to the dining table. Shu Yi washed his hands and came to help. He glanced at the dishes, all of which he liked. However, he remembered mentioning wanting to eat “mouth-watering chicken” last night. Qu Di had claimed he didn’t know how to make it, but tonight it appeared on the dinner table.

“I smell mouth-watering chicken,” Shu Yi remarked.

Qu Di felt a little guilty. Truthfully, he hadn’t made it himself. He had attempted to cook it, but failed because he didn’t want to waste the entire chicken he’d eaten for lunch. So, he had bought ready-made food from the supermarket for dinner.

“You wanted to eat it… I tried making it,” but he trailed off, swallowing the rest of the sentence. He would make it perfectly next time.

After they sat down to eat, Shu Yi automatically served the rice. He took a piece of mouth-watering chicken for himself. After savoring it, he asked, “This tastes familiar.”

Qu Di had no choice but to confess, “Actually, this is from the supermarket’s prepared foods section.”

Shu Yi paused for a moment, then chuckled. “I thought so. I often eat from there. No need to feel embarrassed. I don’t have to eat what you cook.”

Qu Di served him a piece of lotus root. “I’m learning to make it. I’ll get it right next time.”

Although he had been in the kitchen many times from childhood to university and had often cooked for Yang Ji, the truth was that his culinary skills were only passable. He could make simple, everyday dishes, but for anything slightly more challenging, he had to consult cooking tutorials. Fortunately, he had more free time now. Besides concentrating on writing the script, he had plenty of time for other things. They did household cleaning only when they had spare time, and Shu Yi helped. The house was a bit messy, but it was still relatively clean.

After dinner, Qu Di pushed Shu Yi to take a shower while he cleared up. They had a dishwasher, so there was no issue of who would do the dishes.

Once Shu Yi returned to his room, he received a call from his brother-in-law, Lu Huayan. His smile vanished instantly. It was the first time he didn’t want to answer Lu Huayan’s call, but he eventually picked up.

Lu Huayan said, “We’ve found the person, and everything is arranged. We’re just waiting for the status on your end of things.”

Shu Yi remained silent for a moment before saying, “I understand.”

Lu Huayan sensed that Shu Yi seemed emotionally distant, as they hadn’t contacted each other for two weeks due to their busy schedules.

He cautiously asked, “Is it…?”

Shu Yi quickly interrupted him, “No.”

“I just need a bit more time; he hasn’t given me the finished product yet.”

In truth, Shu Yi hadn’t inquired about it during this time. He had pushed the matter aside, letting himself get immersed in it temporarily.

“…If you don’t want to do it, just let me know at any time. Shu Yi, I don’t want you to do something you’ll regret.”

He hung up the phone and sat on the bed, lost in thought. Suddenly, he noticed a book on the table: “A Thousand Words of Love: Guide to Romantic Phrases.” He picked it up and flipped through it, finding some notes inside.

The first page: “Why are you so impulsive, suddenly crashing into my heart.”

He thought this phrase was good and had even marked it in red.

He had bought this book on a whim back then, rushing through it to say a few words on the night of the meteor shower. He had forgotten it all afterward. Although TV dramas had sets of romantic lines, in reality, Shu Yi couldn’t say a single one.

He had only read this book a few times. After realizing it was of no use, he had abandoned it. Since being together, they hadn’t needed any special effort. Just being together quietly, even if they were leaning against each other to watch an old movie, made time pass by sufficiently.

Lu Huayan probably guessed. Shu Yi was hesitating. The determination he had back then had disappeared, and lately, he had often dreamt that Qu Di was as he had expected, oppressed by him and looking at him in despair before turning and leaving.

He woke up with a racing heart, feeling like he had lost something important. Even in the middle of the night, he went to Qu Di’s room, sitting on the floor and silently watching the person on the bed, hoping to find a sense of security and reassure himself that it was just a dream. Qu Di was still with him. He returned to his own room only as dawn approached.

He had considered giving up, but every time he thought of Shu Man, he felt that his kindness toward Qu Di was shameless. He had easily fallen into that useless love, becoming cowardly and uncertain.

“Why haven’t you gone to shower yet?”

Qu Di appeared at the door, holding sliced fruit and a cup of floral tea. Shu Yi quickly hid the book under the pillow.

“I was thinking about something, got a little distracted. I’ll go now.”

“Then, have some fruit first. The apples today are good; I bought a few.”

After they both showered, they watched a movie together. Shu Yi sat behind Qu Di, and they sat on the couch with the air conditioner on

They could be considered respectful to each other, but the emotions seemed to come so suddenly, just a movie could make them lose control, and the pheromones in the air grew stronger.

Alpha’s voice was magnetic, “If you were an Omega, you would definitely smell my pheromones out of control.”

Qu Di lowered his head and dared not move, “Actually… actually, I can smell it a bit.”

Shu Yi first paused, then smiled and asked, “What does my pheromone smell like?”

Qu Di raised his head, and his eyes turned slightly red due to shyness.

“Peppermint, it’s a very fresh peppermint scent.”

“You… really can feel it?”

In principle, Betas in the world shouldn’t be able to sense pheromones, but research shows that some more advanced Beta individuals can slightly sense them, although they are not affected by them. Such Betas account for only 0.5% of Betas. He didn’t expect to have one right in front of him.

Qu Di nodded.

“I didn’t expect to pick up a treasure.”

He kissed Qu Di’s soft cheek, pushed him away, and Qu Di hurriedly picked up the small blanket that had fallen to the ground.

He looked at Alpha, who was about to go upstairs, and asked, “Where are you going?”

Shu Yi helplessly looked at himself, “I’m going to take a shower.”

“I can help you…” For some reason, this sentence just blurted out without thinking, and he was also surprised after saying it, but he didn’t deny it, just stood there waiting for Alpha’s response.

“I don’t want to inconvenience you.”

By the time Qu Di came to his senses, the movie’s plot had already progressed to the next day, and the male and female leads woke up in the sunlight.

In the living room, there was only him left, but he couldn’t help but smile, with no embarrassment of being rejected.

In the bathroom, Shu Yi was lost in thought. He suddenly wanted to know what Qu Di’s scent was like, whether it was as soft and sweet as it looked.

Chapter 29 – Healing the Living Dead

Chapter 29

Si Lan and Haowei hurriedly made their way to Baixiang Garden. As they approached, they heard a melodious tune resonating within the courtyard.

“Behind the red gates, a young lord leans gracefully, sipping wine from a jade goblet.”

The voice was as smooth as water, gentle and pleasant, resembling a woman’s, yet more enchanting than one.

Si Lan and Haowei squeezed through the crowd and saw the courtyard adorned with lanterns, casting dancing shadows. Taoyuan, dressed in a red wedding gown, had a delicate and slender figure. His movements were graceful and tender, as if he were on a stage. With half-closed eyes, he sang a song with an absentminded look.

“Ask the music-loving lady and her lord, love and anger make a perfect couple. The young lord flees with flushed cheeks, the lady dances, enchantingly and smiling…”

The song seemed to narrate the first encounter of Taoyuan and Peijia.

Peijia leaned against the wall, watching as the lovely Xiao Lian sang the song next door. He teasingly asked if Xiao Lian was a man or a woman, and Xiao Lian playfully scolded him as her husband, which sent Peijia running in a fluster.

Peijia slowly reached out his hand towards the singer, his arms trembling slightly due to excitement. He embraced Taoyuan and choked out his name.

“Taoyuan…”

But Taoyuan seemed oblivious to his words, continuing to sing intermittently.

“Taoyuan, I’m Peijia. Look at me…”

Peijia called Taoyuan softly, but Taoyuan remained in a dazed state, showing no response. Peijia looked at Si Lan with teary eyes. “Doctor Si, what’s happening to him?”

Si Lan approached Taoyuan, placing his hand on Taoyuan’s Baihui acupoint, and realized that Taoyuan’s body was now under the control of a strong obsession.

That was a lingering obsession of Taoyuan that persisted even after his death.

Previously, Taoyuan’s body had been overtaken by impurities, preventing this obsession from entering his body. Later, Si Lan eliminated all the impurities near the General’s Mansion, allowing this obsession to regain control over Taoyuan’s body.

Si Lan didn’t respond to Peijia’s question. Instead, he asked, “General Pei, what is the song that Taoyuan is singing?”

“It’s ‘Playing with Peijia,'” Peijia replied with a moment of melancholy in his expression. “It’s a song Taoyuan composed himself to commemorate our first meeting.”

Si Lan frowned, realizing that Taoyuan’s obsession was related to their initial encounter. Resolving this obsession might briefly restore Taoyuan’s consciousness. Perhaps only Taoyuan’s words could make Peijia accept the fact that Taoyuan was already gone.

“Be careful,” Si Lan warned.

While Si Lan was deep in thought, Haowei suddenly grabbed his elbow.

In the next instant, a surge of malevolent energy rushed towards them, causing everyone to be knocked down by the energy, screaming in fear. The malevolent energy swept through the crowd and swiftly took Taoyuan’s body as if it were lightning fast.

Si Lan, followed by Haowei, immediately used their magic to chase after the malevolent energy. In the distant sky, a massive black cloud of malevolent energy roiled, and once Taoyuan’s body was absorbed into it, it quickly disappeared.

Si Lan entered the malevolent energy, and in an instant, everything turned black, with no visibility. Si Lan swiftly used his techniques to dispel the rolling malevolent energy, clearing the sky.

However, Taoyuan’s figure was nowhere to be seen.

“He went back,” Haowei said in a low voice and turned back.

Si Lan followed him without hesitation. As they got closer to the General’s Mansion, he felt the familiar malevolent energy again.

This cunning demon knew that the most dangerous place was often the safest!

Haowei landed in the General’s Mansion’s backyard, with Si Lan landing behind him.

The courtyard was overgrown with weeds, the walls were dilapidated, and the cold moonlight cast eerie shadows, making the surroundings appear sinister. It seemed to be an abandoned garden.

Si Lan spoke in a hushed tone and stepped forward, asking, “Are you sure it’s here?”

“Yes,” Haowei replied.

Si Lan concentrated and carefully observed the surroundings.

Tattered pieces of burial paper rustled in the night wind, a wooden door lay on the threshold, and the room was half bathed in moonlight, half drowned in shadows. Cobwebs swayed from the ceiling, and dust covered the floor, giving the appearance of nothing unusual.

But just as he turned to leave, he suddenly struck a palm at the person hidden behind the door crack.

The person had hidden their form, thinking they were safe when Si Lan turned away, but they were taken by surprise and struck by Si Lan’s palm.

The person grunted and quickly transformed into a black mist, trying to escape.

Si Lan, however, accurately seized the essence of that black mist with his hand. A cry of pain came from within.

“My lord… It hurts…”

The black mist gradually dispersed, revealing a man in white clothes with black hair. The man’s neck was still being held by Si Lan, and he was gasping for breath, his expression distorted and his face red from choking.

Si Lan released his grip, and the man in white clothes immediately clutched his throat, gasping for air.

“My lord, you were quite ruthless,” he complained.

Si Lan was astonished that the intruder causing chaos in the General’s Mansion was none other than Song Ye, who had been paralyzed for over a hundred years.

Si Lan gritted his teeth and looked around.

Then, another person, presumably realizing that they could no longer hide, revealed their form and silently approached Si Lan.

“I greet my lord,” Song Cheng said, with no signs of embarrassment at being caught, and he made a respectful bow.

Si Lan was getting increasingly furious. “What are the two of you doing here?”

“My lord, we came to the General’s Mansion to remove the Dayong Curse,” Song Ye explained after catching his breath.

“Oh, I see. So why were you sneaking around and not willing to meet me?” Si Lan asked.

Song Ye glanced at Song Cheng as if they were coordinating their stories, but Song Cheng seemed unwilling to continue the deception and said, “We seek your forgiveness, my lord. The Dayong was released when Song Ye and I were fighting, and we accidentally broke the seal on it.”

Song Cheng explained that while they were pursuing each other, they had reached Dayong Mountain. During their fight, they inadvertently shattered Dayong Mountain, which released Dayong. After realizing the gravity of the situation, they followed Dayong into the human realm and arrived at the General’s Mansion.

For the past few days, they had been hiding in the General’s Mansion, trying to find a way to break the Dayong Curse. When they sensed Si Lan’s presence, Song Ye suggested concealing their presence and acting discreetly.

After all, if Si Lan found out that the malevolent creature causing havoc in the human realm was released by them, he might have executed them immediately.

Song Ye had no reservations but was concerned about his brother. After all, his brother was deeply fond of Si Lan.

Thinking of this, Song Ye closed his eyes and looked desperate. “My lord, it has nothing to do with my brother. It was I who inadvertently broke the seal on Dayong Mountain.”

Song Cheng, with an expressionless face, continued, “My lord, it’s not his fault. It’s my recklessness; otherwise, Dayong wouldn’t have been released.”

“No, it’s my mistake. It’s all my fault. It’s because I couldn’t control my sword for a moment that I accidentally split Dayong Mountain open.”

Si Lan watched the touching scene of these two brothers, who usually had a poor relationship, now fighting to take responsibility when trouble arose. He wasn’t sure whether to be moved or angry.

These two brothers were always like this, having a strained relationship in their daily interactions, but once something happened, they would compete to shoulder the blame.

Si Lan was about to speak when Haowei, who had been silent all along, suddenly said, “The Dayong matter has nothing to do with them.”

Song Ye looked at Haowei, not knowing who this mysterious figure with the veil was, but upon hearing him speak in their favor, his face immediately lit up with a smile. He was about to express his gratitude, but then Haowei added coldly, “Their cultivation is too low to break the seal on Dayong.”

Song Ye remained silent.

For some reason, Si Lan felt an inexplicable trust in Haowei’s words. Relieved that it wasn’t his two subordinates’ fault, he still maintained a stern expression and asked, “Where is Taoyuan, and why did you capture him?”

Song Cheng cast a spell, and Taoyuan’s physical body gradually appeared, hovering in mid-air.

At this moment, Taoyuan had closed his eyes, his face pale, but his cheeks were unusually red, like a human puppet.

Song Ye explained, “My lord, we suspect that Dayong was summoned by him after his death. That’s why we wanted to capture him and force him to break the curse.”

Si Lan glanced at Song Ye but didn’t confirm or deny it. He walked to Taoyuan and noticed that the lingering obsession inside him was gone.

Perhaps it had been frightened away by Song Ye, or perhaps its time had expired.

The obsession could enter the physical body, but the time it spent inside was limited, and the presence of excessive Yang energy around the body prevented the obsession from entering.

“You two…” Si Lan sighed. “You’re becoming bolder and bolder.” If he hadn’t received a message from the Heaven-Sent Monkey Spirit to come to the mortal realm to investigate, they might have continued hiding it from him.

While they hadn’t directly released Dayong, they should have informed him as soon as they discovered the malevolent creature wreaking havoc in the mortal realm, rather than keeping it hidden due to fear of punishment.

If their actions caused harm to the mortal realm, both Si Lan and they would be held accountable.

Song Cheng immediately knelt and bowed, apologizing, “My lord, I was wrong in this matter. Please punish me.”

Song Ye looked at Song Cheng, hesitated for a moment, and reluctantly knelt as well, saying, “My lord, you can punish me.”

“Don’t worry,” Si Lan said sternly, “Both of you will face punishment, but for now, return to the Demon Realm. Each of you will receive 100 lashes and be banned for three years.”

“My lord, can we stay by your side and serve you until the Dayong curse is lifted, and then we’ll accept our punishment?” Song Cheng raised his head, his eyes slightly red, pleading.

Song Ye heard his brother’s plea and added, “Yes, my lord, we can assist you in any way you need.”

“You shouldn’t think you can make amends by helping. Even if you manage to lift the Dayong curse, you will still face punishment when you return,” Si Lan warned. While he generally didn’t get angry, when he did, it was not easily appeased.

Song Cheng, upon hearing this, immediately thanked Si Lan, and Song Ye pursed his lips, following his brother’s lead in apologizing.

At this moment, Peijia heard the commotion in the backyard and led a group of servants to investigate.

When he saw Taoyuan, Peijia rushed over, embraced him tightly, his eyes filled with obsession. “Taoyuan… Taoyuan… How can this happen? Lord Si Lan, why has Taoyuan fallen asleep again?”

Si Lan explained, “General Pei, don’t worry. Lady Taoyuan will wake up again.”

“Really?”

“Yes.”

“That’s good, that’s good,” Peijia muttered, seemingly lost in his own world, where only Taoyuan existed, and there was no one else.

“General Pei, the Yin energy is strongest at the third quarter of the night,” Si Lan said. “At that time, Lady Taoyuan may wake up again. But it would be helpful if you could recreate the scene of your first encounter, which could stimulate her consciousness.”

The lingering obsession in Taoyuan had been singing “Playing with Peijia” repeatedly, suggesting that it was deeply attached to their initial meeting. If Peijia played the role of the young man on the wall, it might trigger the obsession and awaken Taoyuan.

“Alright,” Peijia responded, and he quickly left with Taoyuan in his arms. His attention never strayed from Taoyuan, and he seemed to have not noticed the two extra people who had appeared suddenly or perhaps noticed them but was too preoccupied with Taoyuan to question who had taken Taoyuan’s body away.

Si Lan watched Peijia’s distraught appearance with mixed feelings. Once Taoyuan’s consciousness returned, he and Peijia would be separated again.

However, if they didn’t wake her up, Taoyuan’s body and obsession wouldn’t remain in the mortal realm for long, and sooner or later, they would have to deal with the situation of separating the two lovers.

Peijia instructed his servants to set up a simple stage in the inner courtyard, repaint the walls, and plant green bamboo to recreate the scene of their first meeting.

When the third quarter of the night arrived, Taoyuan, who had been lying in bed, slowly sat up. His eyes seemed clouded, unfocused, and lacked expression.

He walked to the stage, swaying his slender figure, and gently waved his sleeves. His voice was as clear and melodious as pearls and jade.

“At the vermilion gates, under the carved window, Peijia leans against the par4p3t…”

However, it seemed that Taoyuan hadn’t seen Peijia leaning against the wall. He continued singing the song, seemingly oblivious to Peijia’s presence.

Peijia descended from the wall, his eyes red, and his lips quivering slightly. He stared at Taoyuan, who remained unresponsive, seemingly unaffected.

“Taoyuan… Please, stop singing,” Peijia suddenly embraced Taoyuan from behind, his back slightly hunched, his chin resting on Taoyuan’s shoulder. “Please, stop singing…”

Peijia closed his eyes and a tear rolled down his pale and sunken face.

Taoyuan still didn’t react to him until the lingering obsession finally left his body and fell into Peijia’s embrace.

The steward asked, “Lord Si Lan, what’s going on? Why hasn’t Lady Taoyuan awakened?”

“The lingering obsession of Lady Taoy

uan doesn’t seem to be related to their initial meeting,” Si Lan said, furrowing his brows. He couldn’t understand why Taoyuan had been singing the song commemorating their first encounter repeatedly.

Peijia, looking at Si Lan, with a hint of despair in his eyes, said, “What should we do to save Taoyuan now?”

“Find the root of her obsession,” Si Lan said. “So, General Pei, you need to carefully think about what in that song could be Lady Taoyuan’s obsession.”

Peijia raised his head, his lips curled in a self-deprecating smile. “Alright, allow me to think about it carefully.” He then carried Taoyuan and walked toward the Lakeheart Pavilion, focused on his beloved, with no attention spared for the two unexpected figures in the courtyard.

The servants each returned to their rooms, and Si Lan and his companions also retired to their quarters.

After the commotion, everyone felt a bit exhausted. However, due to the influence of the Dayong curse, they were both fatigued and unable to sleep, their bodies feeling extremely uncomfortable.

Si Lan rubbed his temples, trying to ease his headache, while still wrestling with the matter of Taoyuan. “We did nothing wrong. Why can’t we resolve that lingering obsession?”

Haowei looked up at Si Lan and calmly stated, “That General Pei’s words can’t be trusted.”

“Hmm?”

“Those affected by the Dayong curse have unstable Qi, their spirits are weak, and they appear fatigued. However, General Pei maintains stable Qi and doesn’t show any sign of fatigue. He should be the one who summoned Dayong.”

Only the person who summoned Dayong remains unaffected by the curse.

Haowei had noticed General Pei’s unusual condition when he first saw him. At that time, he believed it was due to General Pei’s profound inner energy and robust physical strength. However, after another day had passed, it was impossible for even a healthy human body to maintain such stable Qi after two days without rest.

Si Lan asked, puzzled, “Can a living person like Pei summon Dayong? I thought only the lingering grudges of the deceased could do that.”

“Yes.”

Si Lan contemplated, “I remember you said that Taoyuan was trapped to death by someone. Is General Pei trying to seek revenge for Taoyuan?”

“Or perhaps he wants to make the entire mortal realm pay the price for Taoyuan’s death.” Haowei’s voice turned cold.

Si Lan’s heart sank. He realized that they couldn’t delay any longer. Their immediate priority was to awaken Taoyuan and break the Dayong curse.

Taoyuan’s lingering obsession still lingered near his body. Si Lan planned to capture that obsession to understand what it was fixated on.

So, Si Lan, Haowei, and the Song brothers discreetly concealed their presence and, as if they were thieves, approached the Lakeheart Pavilion.

Inside the room, General Pei was applying powder to Taoyuan’s face.

“I know you love to be beautiful, even when you’re asleep, you can’t slack off.”

After General Pei carefully applied the powder, he leaned down and meticulously painted Taoyuan’s eyebrows. When he made a mistake, he reached out to wipe off the makeup expertly.

“I promised you in the past that I would paint your eyebrows for you every day. Now I’ve fulfilled my promise. But what about you? You said you wanted to stay with me for a long, long time, didn’t you?”

General Pei touched Taoyuan’s cheek gently, his eyes filled with deep affection.

“Is your lingering obsession staying for him?” He? Who was he?

The four eavesdroppers in the room were puzzled. They wanted to hear more but General Pei fell silent. He simply held Taoyuan’s hand tightly, and his body remained motionless, like a statue.

Si Lan cast a spell, causing General Pei in the room to fall into a deep sleep. Then, Si Lan and Haowei stealthily entered the room, while the Song brothers were left outside to stand guard.

Though the Song brothers initially considered joining the action inside, they refrained from doing so as they thought about the time when Song Ye had faked a disability. He had feigned it for a hundred years, deceiving Song Cheng into doing his work for him. Song Cheng couldn’t help but clench his teeth when he remembered it.

However, Song Ye, who always seemed carefree, now wanted to talk with his brother. He used his elbow to nudge Song Cheng and asked, “My lord seems to trust that man with the veil.”

Song Cheng ignored him.

Song Ye saw the change in his brother’s expression and continued, “My lord, if that man is the same one you found on Mount Quansha, what do you think?”

Song Cheng’s expression stiffened, and he glared at Song Ye. His eyes were fixed firmly on his brother, who was standing very close.

“Song Ye, if you do anything foolish, don’t involve me.”

“Brother, if it makes you happy, I don’t mind killing him for you, right away.”

“Song Ye, if you continue to do foolish things, don’t drag me into them.”

“Brother, why pretend to be so virtuous? Do you know what happened to my lord’s three consorts? I’m sure you understand better than anyone…”

Song Cheng’s face gradually became tense as he heard this, and he stared at Song Ye intensely.

Song Ye smiled nonchalantly, “I want my brother to be happy. If you don’t want that person to approach my lord, I’ll kill him immediately.”

Inside the room, General Pei had dozed off beside the bed.

Si Lan performed a secret technique, and above Taoyuan’s physical body, a wisp of Taoyuan’s lingering obsession floated. It carried the memories Taoyuan didn’t want to forget.

Si Lan and Haowei simultaneously reached out for the obsession, and the next moment, they saw the scenes held within.

Before the break of dawn, Taoyuan was already practicing on a dilapidated stage.

At this time, Taoyuan’s face appeared slightly young, with undeveloped features, but his figure was slender and graceful, exuding a hint of femininity.

He twirled his sleeves, swayed his body, and sang slowly, “Gazing upon the distant Qí, where the green bamboo is lush and dense. The gentleman there, he works on himself, as if carving and polishing, as if cutting and grinding…”

He sang with great enthusiasm but didn’t notice there was someone lying on the par4p3t.

The clear and melodious voice woke General Pei, who was rubbing his temples. His face still carried the remnants of

a blush, as if he had just woken up from a drunken stupor.

Listening to the tune in the courtyard, General Pei couldn’t help closing his eyes, crossing his legs, and occasionally nodding in appreciation.

Si Lan hadn’t expected that General Pei also had such a carefree and playful side. Just as he was feeling surprised, the song ended, and he saw General Pei turn his head, his gaze fixed on the figure on the stage.

Although the two were separated by some distance, General Pei looked closer and squinted his eyes, asking, “Young lady, what song are you singing?”

At this time, Taoyuan had disheveled hair, was dressed in a colorful dress, and his facial features hadn’t fully developed yet, making it hard to distinguish his gender. Upon hearing General Pei’s question, Taoyuan felt embarrassed and raised his head, glaring at General Pei.

Later, Taoyuan, for some unknown reason, raised his eyebrows slightly and deliberately deepened his voice, saying, “Good husband, the title of the song I just sang is ‘Qí Ào’.”

It’s unclear whether General Pei was startled by the term “good husband” or the sudden change in Taoyuan’s voice, but he stumbled and fell from the par4p3t, then hastily fled.

Seeing this, Taoyuan couldn’t help but cover his face and chuckle.

Si Lan, upon seeing this, couldn’t contain his laughter either.

General Pei had tried to flirt but ended up being teased instead.

Across the room, Haowei heard Si Lan’s laughter and glanced at him through the black veil.

The second scene depicted by the obsession was the troupe leader holding a thick stick, similar to a baby’s arm, and repeatedly striking Taoyuan.

Taoyuan knelt on the ground, his delicate body jerking with every blow, but he refused to admit that he had stolen the jade pendant.

General Pei, as usual, was sunbathing on the par4p3t when he saw the scene of Taoyuan being beaten. He immediately leaped into the courtyard, taking the stick from the troupe leader.

“Why are you beating him?” General Pei asked.

“This rebel stole my jade pendant, hid it in his room, and won’t admit it!” The troupe leader recognized General Pei, as he was the eldest son of General Pei. He had no choice but to explain.

General Pei asked with a cold face, “Is it the jade pendant carved like a big cabbage?”

“Yes… Master Pei, how do you know about it?”

General Pei chuckled and pointed to a little actor in the corner, saying, “I was sunbathing on the par4p3t, and I saw him sneaking into Taoyuan’s room with a cabbage-shaped jade pendant.”

As General Pei finished speaking, the little actor’s face changed instantly. He quickly knelt down, begging for mercy. The troupe leader became furious and began beating him with a broom.

For a moment, everyone in the theater troupe’s room was focused on the troupe leader and the actor who was begging for mercy.

Only General Pei watched Taoyuan, who was still kneeling on the ground.

General Pei helped Taoyuan up, but Taoyuan blushed slightly and avoided his touch, thanking him with a lowered head.

After this incident, General Pei and Taoyuan’s relationship grew much closer. To express his gratitude, Taoyuan made soup for General Pei.

General Pei opened the porcelain bowl with excitement. However, when he saw that it contained meatball soup with radishes, his expression changed for a moment, but he still smiled and finished the soup.

In truth, General Pei hated two things in his life: radishes and meatballs.

But General Pei knew that this was the best thing Taoyuan could offer him.

Their friendship from their youth blossomed quickly, and they became the closest of friends, sharing every aspect of their lives despite being from entirely different worlds. Thanks to a par4p3t wall, they were closely connected.

Unfortunately, these good days didn’t last long. The Pei family was summoned back to the capital by the Holy Yu family.

Before leaving, General Pei found Taoyuan and brought a jug of wine. He poured it for Taoyuan, saying, “This wine is remarkable. Drinking it will strengthen your body. You’re so thin; you should have more nourishment.” Seeing Taoyuan’s skeptical expression, he added, “Even my elder brother, who has been bedridden for many years, can get up and take a few walks after drinking it.”

Taoyuan chuckled and broke his abstinence from alcohol that night.

In his drowsy state, Taoyuan heard General Pei say, “I really want to take you with me to the capital. The snow in the capital is beautiful.”

Taoyuan reached out to touch General Pei’s face and fell into a deep sleep.

When Taoyuan woke up, General Pei was already gone. In a rush, Taoyuan ran outside, leaving behind one of his shoes. He didn’t care about it and chased after the Pei family’s procession.

Fourteen or fifteen-year-old General Pei rode a black steed, his back straight, tall and imposing. He led his family out of the city gates.

Taoyuan only managed to give General Pei one last glance.

Upon returning to the theater troupe, the troupe leader noticed Taoyuan’s bloodied and mangled right foot. He couldn’t help but sneer, “Young Master Pei has returned to the capital, where there are many beautiful actors and handymen. Do you think he’ll remember who you are?”

Taoyuan kept his head down and said nothing.

“Your Highness, someone is approaching,” suddenly, Song Cheng’s voice echoed from outside.

Si Lan immediately withdrew his hand, and the current scene stopped abruptly.

A group of people had arrived, including some practitioners. Si Lan didn’t want to cause trouble, so he pulled Haowei’s arm and disappeared back into their room.

Song Cheng and Song Ye also returned using magic.

The initial scenes that the obsession revealed were mostly consistent with General Pei’s previous account. However, it was unclear what was wrong, preventing Taoyuan’s obsession from awakening?

Furthermore, the “he” mentioned by General Pei remained a mystery. Who was he referring to?

In those brief scenes, there didn’t seem to be anyone particularly significant.

Si Lan was perplexed and turned to Haowei. “Chongwei, did you discover anything?”

Haowei was about to respond when a strange bell suddenly rang outside, echoing with an eerie tone, filling the air above the General’s Mansion.

It was a soul-binding bell.

Si Lan and the others rushed outside, following the strange bell sound, which led them to the Lakeheart Pavilion. There, several servants were gathered at the edge of the lake.

In front of the Lakeheart Pavilion, several practitioners stood with their eyes closed, shaking the soul-binding bells in peculiar postures.

Inside the Lakeheart Pavilion, through the official yellow beaded curtains, they could faint

ly see several practitioners. Using a thread as a medium, they sent layer after layer of white light into Taoyuan’s body.

General Pei was left outside the pavilion, clenching his fists and staring intently at what was happening inside.

Seeing this, Si Lan and the others attempted to step into the Lakeheart Pavilion but were stopped by the elderly steward.

The steward explained awkwardly, “Doctor Si, the practitioners are performing a ritual. Please refrain from disturbing them. Please don’t misunderstand; it’s not that the General’s Mansion doesn’t trust your medical skills. The General’s Mansion had previously issued a notice, inviting renowned doctors from all over to treat the Madam’s illness. These practitioners just arrived and claimed they could help, so the General allowed them to perform their rituals.”

“Ah, I see,” Si Lan nodded and looked at the practitioners ringing the bells in front of the Lakeheart Pavilion, noticing a few familiar figures.

Despite their disguises, Si Lan still recognized them as the men who were discussing General Pei and Taoyuan at the teahouse yesterday.

Si Lan’s expression grew serious, and he asked the steward, “Are the identities of those practitioners reliable?”

“They are reliable; they are all disciples of the Xuanling Sect,” the steward replied.

Si Lan fell into thought, and then Haowei suddenly spoke in a low voice, “This is the art of necromancy.”

“So, they aren’t planning to revive Taoyuan but turn him into a puppet?” Si Lan inquired.

“Yes,” Haowei confirmed.

Si Lan was about to speak up to stop them when he heard voices coming from inside the room.

“General Pei, he’s awake!”

General Pei immediately rushed into the room, and Si Lan and the others followed suit.

Inside the room, incense wafted through the air, and the beaded curtains swayed. The person lying on the bed had eyes that slowly moved, as if they had lost focus. After a while, those eyes settled on General Pei.

General Pei couldn’t help but grip Taoyuan’s hand, and his chest trembled involuntarily with excitement.

“Taoyuan…”

The person on the bed had a pale face, and at the corner of their lips, they murmured, “Am I asleep?”
