Chapter 5 – The Capital (2)

Moschery relaxed his body and leaned back on the chair. He listened absent-mindedly to the emotional speech of the Olympian envoy, “Oh! Poor Thune! He was left on the battlefield like that! Your Majesty! This is illegal! Your Majesty!”

“Yes.” Moschery said with a sincere expression, “I also deeply regret this.”

The Minister of Public Relations probably didn’t expect that His Majesty the Emperor would be so shameless. He hesitated for a moment, not entirely willing, and said, “Your Majesty, I heard you just returned from G Star…”

“Ah, that’s right.” Moschery nodded, “Everyone must have noticed that I also made a mental mark, however.” He looked at the antelope spiritual link guide and smiled sarcastically, “Not that it has anything to do with him.”

The publicist’s eyes widened comically, and he looked at Thune with some disbelief. The latter lowered his head sluggishly and seemed to have no reaction to the outside world.

In fact, he was not the only one. Paulie had been blushing ever since Moschery had come in. Although they could see that she was trying her best to restrain herself, her spiritual link, the proud white peac0ck, had already eagerly raised its wings and was pacing back and forth, its tail stretched out in gorgeous, brilliant screen feathers.

“She must regret not hiding the spiritual link now.” Tristana whispered to Lin Dongliang, and she gloated, “Without experiencing god-level suppression, one wouldn’t understand. Fortunately, His Majesty has already placed a mental mark. Otherwise, she would definitely be begging on her knees.”

Lin Dongliang shrugged, “Didn’t you see that Mrs. Berlin’s mouth twisted in frustration?”

Although Mrs. Berlin was an ordinary person, anyone with eyes could see Paulie’s condition. Mrs. Berlin’s complexion was hard to describe as anything but unpleasant. However, as an Iron Lady who had been in power for more than 40 years, she naturally maintained her composure.

“Your Majesty.” Mrs. Berlin said slowly, “For your safety, the guide you marked must be reviewed and registered by Averio Academy.”

Moschery agreed, “I think so too.”

“…” Berlin probably didn’t expect that he would be so cooperative, “Then please tell me his name.”

The emperor opened his eyes and told lies, “I don’t know, are you not going to look for it yourself?”

       Mrs. Berlin: “…”

“Wait, wait a minute, Your Majesty!” The envoy from Olympus exclaimed excitedly, “We possess the genes of god-level guides. Lord Helu once promised when he was alive…”

“You seem to have forgotten something, Sir.” Moschery’s calm voice interrupted, and a cold, mechanical sheen gleamed on his masked face, “I am the Emperor, and ‘he’ is not yours. Don’t attempt to control me with this useless method as you did with Helu.”

“…” The Minister of Public Relations swallowed in fear.

Moschery smiled, “You must have heard some rumours about me.”

“No, I should say those weren’t rumours, I admit it.” The emperor looked at the pale Mrs. Berlin and said delightfully, “I am indeed a tyrant.”

Shen Zhuofan opened a pet cat shelter in the bustling downtown area of the capital, and Qin Yun was considered some sort of the second owner. Whenever the troops were taking a break, he would help.

“You are too slow.” Shen Zhuofan complained. Both of them were graduates of Averio Academy. However, for some reason, Shen Zhuofan did not join the army or work in the government. Instead, he hid his ability as a guide and worked peacefully as a small business owner, “Go wash Sweetheart, Darling, and Baby. The three of them can toss and turn too much.”

Sweetheart was the Maine Coon that was very dependent on Qin Yun. It was very beautiful with its huge body and fluffy long hair.

“Come home with me, Sweetheart.” Qin Yun squatted down and scratched the cat’s chin. The Maine Coon cat squinted its eyes and raised its neck in comfort, purring from its throat.

Shen Zhuofan, “Whether you take it home or not, won’t I still be the one taking care of it? You’re hardly at home for more than a few days a year.”

Qin Yun smiled and did not deny it. He fumbled around for a while, took out a box from his pocket and handed it over, “This is two months’ worth of stabiliser. Your situation is special; this kind of thing is more difficult to get, so use it sparingly, okay?”

Shen Zhuofan pursed his lips. The stabiliser he wanted was very special. Since Qin Yun was a low-level guide, he would definitely not be able to get it.

“Alright, don’t put on that guilty expression like you’re contemplating immediate death.” Qin Yun punched his chest, “I volunteered to go to the military. Even without you, I would still go to the frontline, so there’s no need to feel sorry for me.”

Shen Zhuofan sighed. He was silent for a while and finally just opened his arms and hugged Qin Yun into his arms, “Welcome back, brother.”

“I’m back.” Qin Yun replied with a smile.

Mrs. Berlin stood in the middle of the corridor, her back straight and her expression solemn and serious. Moschery seemed unsurprised that she would stand in his way.

“Your Majesty.” Mrs. Berlin nodded gently, “Are you going to rest?”

“Yes, Madam.” Moschery’s eyes fell on Paulie, who was following her, and smiled with an unknown meaning, “It seems that you are getting older and have forgotten what happened to the ones you sent before?”

“Paulie is different.” Mrs. Berlin said confidently, “She is the best.”

       Moschery raised his eyebrows, “Really?”

Upon hearing the Emperor’s question, Paulie took a deep breath. She forced herself to lift her head, attempting to extend guiding tendrils towards the other party. Moschery showed no intention of avoiding her, but the girl’s tendrils stopped just a centimetre away from him.

Mrs. Berlin, unable to see what was happening, called out with a worried frown, “Paulie?”

The girl’s eyes were dull, staring motionlessly at the emperor’s face.

“Paulie!” Berlin sounded aggravated. She wanted to step forward and pull the other person’s arm but was stopped by Skarter.

The general’s smile was gentle, but the smile did not reach his eyes, “You’d better call the doctor over, and… if you don’t want her brain to be completely damaged, please don’t touch her.”

Mrs. Berlin jerked her hand away as if she was frightened. She looked around in horror, and somewhere she couldn’t see, Paulie’s guiding tendrils broke into pieces of feathers and slowly drifted down to Moschery’s feet.

Lin Dongliang was in the study room, lowering his head while reviewing documents. Suddenly, his neck felt warm, and Skarter mischievously blew a breath in his ear, “Your Excellency Secretary of State, you are really charming.”

“…” Lin Dongliang moved his neck a little and said helplessly, “You didn’t even come through the main entrance… Is there something urgent?”

“Of course, it’s something that can’t be more urgent.” Skarter said seriously, “Sir, when can you complete the final mark with me?”

       Lin Dongliang: “…”

Tristana: “…Hey, can you stop ignoring me when you two are flirting?!”

Lin Dongliang rubbed his forehead with a headache and cut to the chase, “Has Mrs. Berlin been sent away?”

“Could she not be sent away? The guide she brought almost had a mental breakdown because she wanted to guide His Majesty…” Skarter thought about it and felt that the other party was also quite daring, “What a commendable courage.”

       Tristana snorted: “Serves you right!”

Lin Dongliang was not optimistic, “The last stabiliser His Majesty used became ineffective half a year ago… Although a god-level sentinel can exert stronger suppression on mania, once the mental backlash occurs, the consequences will be disastrous.” He looked at Skarter, “Has His Majesty been acting out of character lately?”

“Well, if the 500 sentinels he killed on G-Star counts.” Skarter shrugged.

Tristana suddenly clapped her hands, “By the way! Didn’t His Majesty make a spiritual mark? Do you know who that guide is?!”

Skarter was stunned. He remembered the words ‘low-level guide’ he saw that day. He was silent for a while and said slowly, “I’m not sure.”

Lin Dongliang glanced at him suspiciously but did not reveal the truth. He thought for a while and said carefully, “Since His Majesty doesn’t want to say anything, then there must be his reasons, and we have no right to interfere.”

“Hey!” Tristana leaned back and fell on the sofa. She stared blankly at the ceiling and muttered regretfully, “Is His Majesty destined to die alone…”

Skarter: “He seems to have said that himself.”

Tristana: “…The right hand will definitely be useless, right?”

       Lin Dongliang: “…”

After Qin Yun washed the cats, he went to the kitchen to cook a meal. Several cats took turns rubbing his trouser legs and meowing underneath. When Shen Zhuofan came in, he saw Qin Yun frowning and rubbing his neck.

“What’s wrong?” Shen Zhuofan tasted the vinegar-steamed fish and said, “Did Sweetheart jump to your neck?”

“No… My head hurts a bit.” Qin Yun took a pair of chopsticks and asked, “How does it taste?”

Shen Zhuofan paused in his meat-picking action. He took a closer look at Qin Yun, pretended to be nonchalant, and said, “Spiritual marks sometimes behave like this. Sentinel’s mood swings will affect the guide’s consciousness.”

Qin Yun didn’t expect Shen Zhuofan to say it so straightforwardly, and he didn’t know how to answer for a while.

Shen Zhuofan patted his back, “It’s best not to take off your clothes when there are many people. The mental marks left by your sentinel are too big.”

“It turns out it’s behind… No wonder I can’t find it.” Qin Yun muttered and wanted to look behind him, “What’s it like?… That guy refused to release the spiritual link even to the end. He’s so petty!”

Shen Zhuofan glanced at it several times and said impatiently, “It’s too faint to tell… It looks like a pig?”

       Qin Yun: “…”

His Majesty the Emperor’s spiritual link, who had been treated like a pig, was currently fighting against the urge to wake up after a nap. Since the last stabiliser became ineffective half a year ago, he had completely become a time bomb. If it were not for being guided by Qin Yun on G-Star in the cloud of consciousness once before, he wouldn’t have been able to hold it together this morning alone.

“Okay, I know you want to find him.” Moschery pressed his forehead, and two veins faintly popped out, “Don’t argue. Shut up!”

       “…”

Moschery gasped and was silent for a moment, “No, he’ll die.”

       “…”

Moschery said angrily, “Alright, alright! I’ll go find him! Stop crying, damn it!” He cursed and started to get dressed, then walked to a pile of shiny ‘antiques’ in the corner and said with a cold face, ” You are only allowed to bring one thing. Take your pick.”

       “…”

Moschery’s expression was completely distorted, “What’s wrong with you getting such a big HOLLO KITTY rhinestone mobile phone case?!”
