Chapter 82 – Humans are quite tender

Chapter 82 – Humans are quite tender

All eyes were on Jian Luo’s figure. Jian Luo appeared nervous under the scrutiny of everyone. He glanced at Lu Shifeng, and even the dragon clan members who had been causing a commotion below dared not do so anymore.

If it were anyone else, they might still dare to compete and stir up trouble to get Jian Luo to choose them. But when it came to Lu Shifeng, they truly didn’t dare. The dragon clan was known for its strong possessiveness, and Jian Luo exuded the scent of a dragon all over him. It was obvious that he belonged to Lu Shifeng. If any dragon tried to cause trouble now, it wouldn’t be a simple battle.

This was practically a matter of life and death.

The dragons exchanged knowing glances and decided to remain silent, waiting for Jian Luo to make his own choice.

After some contemplation, Jian Luo looked up with curiosity. “Aren’t you supposed to be the safe bet?”

Lu Shifeng stood by his side, looking down at him from a higher vantage point. He raised an eyebrow, his expression resembling a smile but with an underlying threat. His tone was elegant yet carried a hint of menace. “In that case, keep your wager unchanged.”

Even though the words were as gentle as a spring breeze, they somehow sounded intimidating. Jian Luo hesitated for a moment, looking at Lu Shifeng’s smile. For some reason, he felt a chill running down his spine, and a strong survival instinct made him change his statement. “I choose you!”

Lu Shifeng raised an eyebrow. “A voluntary bet, Mr. Jian, no need to force yourself.”

“No…no,” Jian Luo chuckled awkwardly. “It’s voluntary. If it’s Lu Shifeng, please change it for me.”

The dragons below fell into silence.

Jian Luo, if you were kidnapped, you’d just blink your eyes.

Sitting there, Jian Luo was uncomfortable, but he was also very interested in the battle among the dragons. The venue here was a large arena where a virtual battle would take place once they entered.

The dragons were discussing how to set up a fair competition.

Just when they were all pondering the rules, Lu Shifeng spoke up directly. “Let’s begin.”

The other soldiers looked at the Dragon King with surprise.

Lu Shifeng took a step forward and entered the virtual battle chamber. He said, “Stay in your true forms, all of you.”

The room fell silent.

Everyone knew Lu Shifeng was strong, but no one had expected him to be this formidable.

Jian Luo’s heart raced as he asked his secretary, “What does staying in our true forms mean?”

“It means the marshal will use his human form,” the secretary explained in a hushed tone. “The other dragons will remain in their dragon forms.”

Jian Luo was shocked. He could hardly believe it. “Doesn’t that make it very dangerous?”

The battle had already begun on the screen. Lu Shifeng stood on the plain, with several dragons circling in the sky and others lurking on the ground not far away. The dragons watched Lu Shifeng vigilantly, carefully seeking an opportunity.

The secretary whispered, “The truly formidable ones are dangerous in their very essence.”

Confused, Jian Luo blinked, and suddenly, his body that had been standing in the grassy field disappeared. It all seemed to happen in an instant. When one of the dragons noticed, Lu Shifeng had already leaped onto its back.

The dragons in the sky wanted to swoop down but hesitated, fearing they might harm their comrades. A dagger swished through the air, and the dragon tried to dodge, but a momentary mistake led to Lu Shifeng’s victory.

“Bang!”

The elimination mark was hit, and the dragon was out of the competition.

Lu Shifeng almost had complete control of the field, and the other soldiers held their breath, witnessing a battle that was evenly matched and thrilling.

In the end, the remaining few dragons adjusted their strategy and collectively attacked Lu Shifeng from various angles, leaving him with no way to retreat.

It was truly dangerous!

Jian Luo’s heart raced, and it felt like it might leap out of his throat any moment now! The screen displayed a cloud of smoke, making it impossible to see the final result, leaving everyone in suspense. Jian Luo’s palms were sweaty, and he turned to his secretary, asking, “Who won?”

The secretary couldn’t be sure either and hesitated, saying, “I guess it must be the marshal.”

But this battle had been so thrilling that if Lu Shifeng had lost, it wouldn’t have been surprising at all.

Jian Luo bit his lip and kept his eyes fixed on the big screen, holding his breath, unknowingly praying for Lu Shifeng’s victory.

After a while, a mechanical voice came through, “All challengers have failed. Please exit the chamber promptly.”

The chambers for the challengers were all opened, and when the soldiers from the challenging team sat up, they were almost in a daze. The dragons exchanged puzzled glances and scratched their heads.

Finally, Lu Shifeng’s chamber opened. It was a 1v6 match, an overwhelming victory, and the silence in the room was broken by thunderous cheers.

Jian Luo let out a sigh of relief.

Lu Shifeng walked out of the virtual battle chamber, and in a few steps, he stood in front of Jian Luo. His handsome face carried a hint of the fierceness that had just come from the battlefield, a touch of pressure. He asked, “So…”

Before he could continue, Jian Luo suddenly felt something strange in his abdomen. He furrowed his brow, placed a hand on his stomach, and let out a stifled groan.

Lu Shifeng’s expression changed.

Even the dragons who had been watching this situation from a distance grew nervous when they saw Jian Luo’s sudden discomfort, their attention now focused on him.

The atmosphere became somewhat tense.

Jian Luo remained silent for a while, then he looked up at Lu Shifeng with a faint smile. “It seems like… it just kicked.”

Lu Shifeng’s tension eased, and he gave Jian Luo a disapproving look.

“It’s probably excited,” Jian Luo continued with a playful tone. “Because its dad is so strong and amazing!”

He stretched out the last word, half-jokingly.

Jian Luo had only intended to make a casual joke, but as he paused and saw Lu Shifeng’s expression, he was met with a pair of crimson, quite serious eyes.

Jian Luo gulped, and an unusual emotion stirred within him. His ears turned slightly red, his eyelashes trembled, and he whispered softly, “Just kidding.”

Lu Shifeng shifted his gaze away and said calmly, “Are you tired?”

“Just a little.”

“Alright.” Lu Shifeng turned to his secretary. “Take him back to eat something and rest.”

The secretary nodded.

Jian Luo couldn’t help but blurt out, “Are you going to work now?”

Speaking without thinking was a dangerous habit, and Jian Luo could certainly attest to that.

Lu Shifeng paused and then turned around. “If you find it boring, you can wander around. Except for the restricted areas marked in red, you’re free to explore the ship. We’ll arrive at our destination in three days, and by then, I can take you sightseeing.”

Jian Luo nodded. “Okay.”

But he wasn’t a child.

As they headed back, Jian Luo couldn’t help but ask his secretary, “We’re not going to engage in any battles this time, right? It still feels quite tense.”

“In reality, our purpose for this trip is to visit on behalf of the Emperor, and the danger level is not high. It’s just to show respect. On the other side, the Great Dragons are almost on par with our Emperor,” the secretary explained. “But everyone is a bit tense because this route we’re taking is frequented by interstellar pirates. There might be some unexpected situations, but don’t worry, the probability is very low.”

Almost as soon as he finished speaking, the lights in the corridor suddenly flickered.

Jian Luo and the secretary both stopped in their tracks, exchanging incredulous glances. They could sense the tension in the air.

The secretary reacted quickly. “Luo Luo, come with me.”

The two of them quickly returned to Lu Shifeng’s room. By this time, the corridor’s alarm had sounded, and a mechanical voice echoed:

“Full military alert.”

“Full military alert.”

The secretary instructed Jian Luo to stay inside the room and not open the door. “Luo Luo, please, stay in this room. It’s absolutely safe. Don’t come out, don’t open the door, just stay in the room, okay?”

Jian Luo understood the seriousness of the situation and nodded, saying, “I understand. You don’t need to worry.”

Seeing that Jian Luo was cooperating, the secretary left the room. Indeed, Lu Shifeng’s room had excellent soundproofing, and once inside, even the outside alarm couldn’t be heard. Jian Luo sat on the room’s sofa, feeling somewhat anxious.

*Ding.*

The sound of a message alert came from the communication terminal. Jian Luo quickly opened it and found a concise message from Lu Shifeng: “Stay in the room, I’ll be back soon.”

Surprisingly, those few simple words reassured him. Jian Luo replied, “Okay, don’t worry, I won’t wander around.”

After ending the communication, Jian Luo sat on the sofa, his mind filled with various thoughts. To pass the time, he opened the communication terminal to check the backstage of his livestream, tally the total earnings, see if there were any adjustments needed in the food vending section, and also check the recent styles of the popular streamers on the website.

As he was engrossed in this, a sudden pop-up window appeared, and no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t close it. Just as he was contemplating whether to restart the communication wristband, the pop-up window suddenly succeeded in opening, gradually revealing the face of a masked man who looked rather eerie.

His gaze was fixed directly on Jian Luo, making him feel uncomfortable all over.

Jian Luo furrowed his brow and had an instinctual feeling that this person was not to be trifled with. “Who are you?”

“Curious?” The man’s voice was hoarse, and he seemed to chuckle under the mask. “Heard you saved Darkstar from infertility. I’ve been wanting to see who you are. How come you look so delicate, like a little rabbit? Hope I didn’t get the wrong guy.”

Jian Luo remained silent, his guard up.
