When Song Jun woke up, it was already bright.

He sat up from the sofa, drifting off for a moment to recall the events of last night, and the first thing he did was to take out his mobile phone to call the police.

Song Jun worked hard to unlock the security door. After leaving the villa, he felt relieved. He didn’t move too far away, waiting for the police to arrive.

It was only after dawn that Song Jun realised that the neighbourhood was a villa area surrounded by single-family villas. However, due to the remote location, no one lived in these villas, and the iron doors were locked tightly.

Not long after, a police car drove in this direction.

Song Jun waved to them, and the police car stopped next to him. The person inside pressed down the window, revealing a baby face with delicate features.

It turned out to be Long Xing, a young policeman whom Song Jun had met once.

Long Xing also remembered Song Jun, and he asked strangely, ”Huh, why are you here? Aren’t you a student at University C?”

Song Jun didn’t have time to explain the reason to him in detail. He hurriedly asked Long Xing and the others to go into the house to take a look. He said that there was a female corpse in the room at the end of the corridor on the first floor, while he himself didn’t dare to go in any further when he reached the door.

After Long Xing and another police officer went in for a while, they quickly came out and called the command centre to request additional manpower. They also called the emergency number.

Song Jun heard them say that there were two people unconscious upstairs.

Only now did Song Jun finally relax. He sat on the doorstep, recalling what happened last night. His memory stopped at how he had fainted after the black monster had broken in and what had happened. How he got downstairs, he had no idea.

Long Xing offered to record a statement for him, and he nodded in agreement.

What happened last night was still very strange to talk about now. Regarding the late-night bus mentioned by Song Jun, Long Xing called the bus company to ask. The other party said that there was indeed a bus due to a breakdown, so the return to the bus terminal was delayed, exactly the one Song Jun mentioned. However, for the specifics, they still needed to go to the bus company to find the driver and obtain evidence.

In addition, when Song Jun said that the woman suddenly changed from her twenties to her fifties, Long Xing bit his pen and looked at him suspiciously.

Song Jun noticed Long Xing’s eyes and was embarrassed to continue talking.

However, Long Xing still wrote down what he said and just said, “Were you too sleepy at that time, so your eyes were blurry?”

Song Jun wanted to say no, but he hesitated and didn’t say anything, so he acquiesced.

Generally speaking, what Song Jun said was consistent with the case scene. This villa was the home of the couple upstairs, and the police also extracted something suspected of human skin gelatin in their kitchen.

After recording the confession, Long Xing said to Song Jun, “I’ll take you back to school.”

Song Jun nodded, “Thank you, officer.”

Long Xing drove Song Jun back to campus in a police car.

On the way, Long Xing asked him, “Are you a student majoring in Forensic Medicine?”

Song Jun responded, “Yeah, but I’m in the field of physical evidence.”

“Oh—” Long Xing dragged his voice and then asked, “Is there any difference?”

Song Jun said, “It is to extract DNA for personal identification…”

When he said this, Long Xing understood.

Long Xing reached out and scratched his head, saying that he went to vocational high school after leaving junior high school. He just started working this year and was still less than twenty years old.

Long Xing looked very young, but Song Jun didn’t expect him to be younger than himself. He had been studying until now, and it seemed natural that the people working were older than him.

Along the way, Song Jun’s emotions slowly calmed down. Although this experience was a little scary when he thought about it, it did not leave much of a psychological trauma compared to what he had encountered before. After all, Tu Zhenzhen was a real person. No matter how cruel and terrifying she was, she had already been caught by the police and would not have the chance to haunt him again.

Long Xing drove the car to the school gate and stopped.

Song Jun said to him, “Thank you, Officer Long.”

Long Xing waved his hand, “You don’t have to be so polite. You were frightened too. Go back and have a good rest.”

Song Jun opened the car door and was about to get out of the car when he saw Xia Hongshen walking out of a small supermarket not far from the school gate.

It was almost noon now, and the sun outside was a bit strong. Song Jun hadn’t had a good rest all night, and he had experienced so many things in the morning. Now, when he saw Xia Hongshen walking out of the supermarket with a bottle of mineral water, he suddenly felt thirsty, and his tongue became dry.

Xia Hongshen also saw Song Jun and the others, and he walked towards them.

“Teacher Xia!” When Long Xing saw Xia Hongshen, he stuck his head out of the car and greeted him enthusiastically.

       Xia Hongshen nodded at him.

Because he had a lot of contact with Xia Hongshen at work, Long Xing opened the car door and got out, walked around to this side of the car and exchanged pleasantries with Xia Hongshen.

Xia Hongshen glanced at Song Jun while listening to him.

Song Jun raised his hand and wiped the sweat from his forehead.

Xia Hongshen then handed over the mineral water in his hand, “Here you go.”

Song Jun was stunned for a moment, took it, and said, “Thank you.”

Long Xing was like an energetic child. He told Xia Hongshen about receiving the call from Song Jun today. Since Xia Hongshen knew the details of the previous face-peeling case, he asked, “Has the criminal been caught?”

Long Xing nodded, “I caught it, thanks to Teacher Song.”

Because he was standing under the noon sun, a layer of sweat soon appeared on Long Xing’s forehead. Xia Hongshen looked at him and suddenly said, “Wait a moment.”

After saying that, Xia Hongshen turned around and went back to the small supermarket. He bought another bottle of mineral water and this time grabbed a box of potato chips.

He handed the mineral water and potato chips to Long Xing.

Long Xing asked strangely, “How do you know I like to eat potato chips?” But he happily accepted it.

Xia Hongshen raised his hand and touched Long Xing’s head.

After making this move, neither Xia Hongshen nor Long Xing seemed to feel anything was wrong, but Song Jun felt strange. He didn’t feel that Xia Hongshen and Long Xing were that close.

Long Xing said he was leaving and said goodbye to them.

Xia Hongshen said, “Be careful on the road.”

Song Jun thanked him again, “Thank you, Officer Long.”

Long Xing got into the car, stretched out his hand and waved, then turned around and left.

Song Jun and Xia Hongshen stood there and watched him drive away.

       Then, Song Jun sighed deeply.

Xia Hongshen turned to look at him.

Song Jun said, “I feel so tired.”

“Go back and rest,” Xia Hongshen said to him.

Song Jun looked at the time. He hadn’t touched the experiment today, and he still had to go to work in the evening, but he suddenly didn’t want to do anything. He was so exhausted that he was afraid that if he tensed up any more, he would break.

Without going to the lab, Song Jun went directly back to the dormitory. After taking a cold shower, he lay on the bed and turned on the fan.

He took out his mobile phone and called the manager of the fast food restaurant where he worked, saying that he would ask for leave today.

In fact, this was his second day at work, and he had to ask for leave. It was hard to explain, but he couldn’t bear it, and his bicycle was stolen. He didn’t know how he was going to get back from work tonight.

The store manager was very unhappy when he heard about his request for leave and did not agree to it.

While Song Jun was talking, fatigue came over him, and he fell asleep holding the phone to his ear. Later, the store manager said that if he didn’t come tonight, he wouldn’t have to come again in the future, but Song Jun didn’t have a chance to hear it.

Lying on the bed with the fan blowing on, Song Jun slept until the phone rang in the afternoon.

He opened his eyes drowsily and found that the phone was still in his hand. The caller ID was his mentor, Zhou Yingchun.

Song Jun suddenly woke up. He answered the phone and tried not to sound like he was waking up, “Professor Zhou?”

Zhou Yingchun didn’t notice that Song Jun slept in the dormitory all afternoon. She called to ask Song Jun to have dinner with her.

“Dinner?” Song Jun was a little surprised.

Zhou Yingchun said, “Yes, all the new students of your class are here. The teaching and research office will organise a dinner together tonight, and we will set off from the Forensic Medicine building later.”

Song Jun said quickly, “Oh, okay.”

After hanging up the phone, Song Jun hurriedly climbed out of bed, wearing only underwear, intending to go to the water room to fetch water and wipe away the sweat accumulated on his body during sleep.

As a result, as soon as he went out, he met Bu Hui and Cheng Ruijing coming back from outside.

When Cheng Ruijing saw Song Jun, she first screamed in surprise, then pointed at Song Jun and shouted, “Little junior brother is running naked!”

Song Jun’s face turned red, and he quickly hid back, only sticking his head out to say hello, “Senior Brother Bu, Senior Sister Cheng.”

Bu Hui said, “What are you doing? Don’t be a hooligan!”

Song Jun was a little depressed, “That’s not it.”

He wanted to wait until Bu Hui and Cheng Ruijing went back to the room before coming out. He was sweaty and didn’t want to put on clean clothes directly.

Unexpectedly, Cheng Ruijing walked towards him and said with a smile, “Hurry up and go naked for Sister to see.”

At this time, the door to Xia Hongshen’s room on the opposite suddenly opened.

No one expected that Xia Hongshen would be here at this time. Cheng Ruijing was startled and leaned against the wall and patted her chest, “Senior Brother Xia, you are going to scare me to death.”

Xia Hongshen looked at her, then looked at Song Jun across from him and asked, “What are you doing?”

Song Jun stuck his head out from the crack in the door and said pitifully, “I want to go to the water room to get some water and wipe my body.”

Xia Hongshen said, “Wait a minute.” Then, he went to the water room to help Song Jun get a basin of water.

Cheng Ruijing was originally just teasing Song Jun, but she gave up when there was no fun to watch. She turned and walked towards Bu Hui’s room and said, “Junior Brother’s figure isn’t good enough. He needs to exercise more.”

Song Jun took the basin and said, “Thank you, Senior Brother Xia.” Then, he hurriedly closed the door.
