Chapter 103 – Orphans with a Widowed Mother

Chapter 103 – Orphans with a Widowed Mother

The scene fell into an awkward silence.

Jian Luo simply couldn’t meet Lu Shifeng’s gaze; his survival instinct prompted him to hastily say, “You’ve misunderstood, brother!”

The elven minister was skeptical, “Misunderstood?”

“Yeah,” Jian Luo chuckled awkwardly, “There’s no pixiu in my belly. How could it be a pixiu? Don’t judge me just because of the clothes I wear. If I were wearing a military uniform, would you think I’m pregnant with a dragon?”

The elf was inexplicably convinced by this explanation, asking, “Then what are you pregnant with?”

Lu Shifeng, who had been silent, spoke up, “Mine.”

The elf was stunned.

Lu Shifeng looked at him with a gloomy expression, “Is the financial acumen of the elven race so shallow, relying solely on appearances?”

The pressure from the dragon race was still formidable, causing the elf to break into a sweat.

The elven minister wiped his forehead, awkwardly saying, “I acted recklessly. I misunderstood. I apologize.”

Jian Luo smiled, “It’s okay.”

The contract was temporarily settled, though the process had its share of tension. Fortunately, there were no major issues.

Exiting the place, Jian Luo couldn’t help but glance at Lu Shifeng repeatedly.

Finally, after countless glances, Lu Shifeng stopped and asked, “Do you have something to say?”

Jian Luo scratched his head, “Um, yes.”

Lu Shifeng prompted, “Speak.”

“I didn’t know this outfit was so valuable. I didn’t wear it on purpose,” Jian Luo spoke sincerely, “Are you angry?”

Because he felt that since a while ago, Lu Shifeng seemed to be unusually intense.

Lu Shifeng gave Jian Luo a thorough look, scrutinizing him to the point of making Jian Luo’s heart a bit uneasy.

After a while, Lu Shifeng said, “Your casual clothes are indeed too few.”

?

Jian Luo explained, “Actually, I have quite a few clothes. It’s just that the ones needed for certain occasions might be a bit fewer. But two outfits are enough.”

Lu Shifeng didn’t want anyone to label him anymore when he went out, “In the afternoon, I’ll have someone measure your clothes again. You won’t have to wear this one in the future.”

Jian Luo looked at the golden robe on him, sniffed, and muttered, “Alright, but honestly, this color is quite nice, and the fabric is good. It’s a bit of a pity.”

“Is it?”

Lu Shifeng raised an eyebrow, affirming, “The fabric is indeed good.”

Jian Luo said, “Right.”

“Uh-huh, suitable for use as a cleaning cloth.”

“…”

Nie Yan felt like hitting someone.

Initially, Jian Luo came to discuss business, but unexpectedly, the process went too smoothly, saving him a lot of time. However, he still had many things to attend to, such as inspecting dried fruits at the place of origin and preparing for the subsequent promotion. The specific process and plans were all new to him, and he needed to prepare thoroughly.

In the afternoon, before heading to inspect the site, Jian Luo was greeted by the person responsible for tailoring his clothes.

The tailor said, “Let me measure your waist and shoulder width first. Please stand still here, okay?”

Jian Luo nodded, “Sure.”

He usually cooperated well with other people’s work, and the tailor, seeing his cooperation, added, “You really look cute, no wonder people like you.”

Jian Luo blushed, “Is that so? Well, it’s nothing.”

The tailor smiled, “It’s the first time I’ve seen a noble person personally deliver gifts to someone.”

“Really?”

“Indeed.”

Jian Luo was delighted, but he tried to maintain composure on his face. In passing, he asked, “Has your marshal… ever had a relationship before?”

In fact, he had discussed this matter with Lu Shifeng before, but he still wanted to hear it from someone else.

The tailor thought for a moment, “It seems so.”

?

Jian Luo’s smile froze on his face, and he pretended not to care, “Oh? Who?”

After taking his measurements, the tailor began selecting styles and said, “Princess, perhaps. Hasn’t the princess always been engaged to the marshal?”

Oh, right.

He almost forgot if she didn’t mention it.

Before, it seemed that the princess did have a good relationship with Lu Shifeng. The princess also seemed quite assertive towards him. Should he ask Lu Shifeng about it?

Thinking about it, Jian Luo hesitated a bit, but then again, once the child was born, what did it matter?

Even if Lu Shifeng married the princess, it had nothing to do with him, right?

With this in mind, Jian Luo felt reassured and said, “I see, that’s good. They are quite a match, the talented man and the beautiful woman.”

The tailor felt like he might have said the wrong thing and awkwardly smiled.

Due to this little episode, when Lu Shifeng returned in the evening, he experienced an unprecedented cold reception. If it were any other day, Jian Luo would have greeted him with enthusiasm or at least come over to show concern, asking about his work, whether he had eaten, and if he wanted to take a bath.

But today, Jian Luo just huddled on the sofa. When he saw Lu Shifeng enter, he lifted his head briefly and then ignored him.

Lu Shifeng calmly sat on the sofa, “What’s wrong? Didn’t you like the clothes from this afternoon’s fitting?”

Jian Luo replied, “I liked them.”

“The brat troubled you again?”

“No.”

“Not feeling well?”

“Feeling fine.”

“…”

There was a moment of silence in the air.

Straight men could never understand why humans acted this way today. Lu Shifeng used the most primitive and effective method: “I’ve opened a supplementary card for you. Buy whatever you like in the future.”

In the past, Jian Luo would have joyfully hugged him and expressed gratitude at this point. But today, Jian Luo just closed the book and said, “Thanks, I’m a bit tired. I’ll go to sleep first.”

“…”

Lu Shifeng felt the pressure.

This was the earliest Jian Luo had gone to bed since they had this elven bed. His sleep quality had improved quite a bit, and he had developed a habit of placing his hand on the quicksand before going to bed, a kind of small magical ritual.

Lu Shifeng walked over from the sofa, intending to say something, but as soon as he approached, Jian Luo buried his head and fell asleep.

It was a somewhat open valley. Jian Luo stood on the grass, looking somewhat confused at the dragon group on the opposite side. Not far away, in the sky, there was a very tall tree, the mother tree of the dragon race, a tree he recognized.

The dragon group surrounded a small black dragon, chattering away:

“Why hasn’t this child learned to fly yet?”

“Isn’t it supposed to be an exact clone of the dragon king’s genes?”

“Could it be that our dragon race is destined to perish in this generation?”

“He has red eyes; this is an ominous sign.”

The discussions were endless and somewhat noisy.

Jian Luo took a step forward and saw the black dragon sitting on a rock in the middle. It wasn’t a complete dragon form but a half-dragon, with two horns on its head, a bit slender in stature. The black scales appeared somber, and its cold, stern side profile remained tense. The pair of red eyes were half-closed, not saying a word.

Jian Luo asked, “Lu Shifeng?”

No one could hear his voice, and the surrounding dragon race couldn’t see him. They continued discussing, and their words became increasingly hurtful.

The way those dragon race individuals looked at the small black dragon was not like they were looking at kin but rather with the indifferent gaze of judging the worthiness of an item.

Finally, an older-looking dragon approached and said, “The survival of the dragon race is at stake. I hope Your Highness can bear the great responsibility and not let the sacrifice of the old Dragon King be in vain.”

The small black dragon remained unresponsive.

The old dragon shook his head and walked away.

The sky gradually darkened, and the small black dragon sitting on the rock remained motionless. Jian Luo felt as if it could sit there until the end of time.

Slowly, it began to rain.

Jian Luo couldn’t stand it. He walked over and poked the black dragon, “Hey.”

In fact, he was just trying to play and didn’t expect Lu Shifeng to react. After all, if other dragons couldn’t see him, could Lu Shifeng? It was a dream anyway, so he shouldn’t care too much.

As expected, the small black dragon remained unmoved, as if treating him as nothing.

Seeing that there was no response, Jian Luo began to amuse himself. He crossed his legs and sat on a nearby rock next to Lu Shifeng:

“What’s your name, are you Lu Shifeng?”

“I know it’s you; I haven’t seen other dragons with red eyes.”

“You were so cute when you were little.”

“Will our child be as cute as you were?”

Originally, the black dragon ignored him. However, as Jian Luo kept talking incessantly, the black dragon lifted his head and locked eyes with Jian Luo. The young voice was somewhat hoarse, “Child?”

Jian Luo was stunned, “You can see me?”

Damn it, why did that jerk ignore me just now?

Lu Shifeng stubbornly said, “What child?”

Jian Luo hesitated, “Uh…”

Lu Shifeng is still young now. Is it really okay for him to know those things that are not suitable for children? But this is a dream. Since it’s a dream, how could he go astray?

Jian Luo’s gaze swept over Lu Shifeng. He cleverly said, “Before I answer your question, you have to answer mine first.”

Lu Shifeng whispered, “What.”

“Why are you sitting here alone? They’ve all left. Aren’t you leaving too? It’s raining, aren’t you cold?”

“I can’t leave.”

“Why?”

“Because I can’t fly.” Lu Shifeng lowered his gaze, exuding a hint of sharpness: “The weak have no right to negotiate.”

“…”

It truly was you.

After Lu Shifeng finished speaking, he looked at him again, “You haven’t answered my question.”

Jian Luo choked. He didn’t expect this kid to be so stubborn. After hesitating for a moment, he looked at the young version of Lu Shifeng. Those eyes still revealed a trace of innocence, completely different from the icy face when he grew up. Considering the previous bullying, a mischievous idea came to his mind.

“I…”

Jian Luo sniffed, and a touch of sadness appeared on his delicate face, “I’m just a passerby in your life, not worthy of having a name.”

“You really have a cruel heart.”

Jian Luo wiped away imaginary tears, “When we were in love, you were so good to me in every possible way, deceiving me into being with you. I got pregnant with your child, but after you got tired of me, you abandoned me and married your princess fiancée. My children are too pitiful, they were orphaned by their father and left with a widowed mother, all alone and helpless!”
